A very special indeed museum village which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The village has 8 ponds which are considered sacred to the pilgrims who go to visit Fujisan. On a perfect day you can see the best views of Mount Fuji from the village. There is no entrance fee to visit the ponds and the village. Also a great Market is at the entrance to the village on the right side. Against a fee of 300 Yen we visited also the Hannokibayashi Folklore Museum. I personally recommend 2 hours for the visit. If you are coming by car a lot of parking spaces are near the entrance ( 200 - 300 meters by foot ). On the road from the parking spots to the main village entrance are a lot of tasty foos stalls. We ate some tasty fried baby octopuses, some Wagyu Skewers and some super tasty donuts. Jump over if you are in the region. It worth it.
This place was beautiful and amazing to visit and experience. Even though it was a cloudy day, the spring waters were clear and beautiful. This place stays crowded, but you can escape that. Many places to try snacks and foods. The souvenir shops had a lot of good items. You can purchase fruits and many local foods. Their are walkable areas to enjoy some quietness. If you can book a group tour, it's better.
Oshino Hakkai is a beautiful and serene village area known for its crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt. The entire place feels calm and refreshing, with traditional thatched-roof houses and charming bridges adding to the scenic appeal. The ponds are incredibly clear, offering amazing reflections and views of the aquatic plants beneath. There are also small shops and snack stalls around, making it a pleasant place to walk, explore, and enjoy local flavors. A peaceful and picturesque stop that perfectly complements any Mt. Fuji or Lake Yamanaka trip.
The village is enchanting and beautiful. It was crowded even at 9 am in the morning. The tranquility of the ponds and their crystal clear waters are amazing. Don't miss a visit to this enchanting village. There is also a small market with tax free that offers a variety of typical and touristic gifts.
Meh... too many tourists. Bus loads! The place is too small to accommodate so many visitors. Overrated. There are many other alternatives in the area. Come only if you Xtra time or if you didnt plan your itinerary carefully and don't know where else to go. Me? I walked around for 10mins and left.
When I visited, the place was packed to the point where it was hard to even move around . Taking a simple photo without someone stepping into the shot was nearly impossible. The tranquility that the location is supposed to offer gets lost when you’re shoulder to shoulder with large tour groups. Strongly recommended to visit early in the morning 🌅 Oshino Hakkai is absolutely beautiful. The ponds are so clear you can practically see into another dimension, and the backdrop of Mount Fuji looks like someone turned the saturation up to 200. It should be a peaceful, serene village… but apparently everyone had the exact same idea the day I went.
Beautiful place but very crowded with tourists. It’s better to visit early morning. Very comfortable to walk with your pet there. There is souvenir shop and food seller, I’ll recommend to try their mugwort rice cake and japanese peach tea.
Very cute village and lots of vendors. However, some Chinese tourists were acting absolutely crazy over the water fountain to taste the spring water. They brought 5L water bottles to fill up the water and did not follow the line as they didn’t want to wait their turn. In that sense, the experience was terrible but nothing against the village. It’s quaint and beautiful.

Great place to explore your inner ninja! Good show, good place to chill and visit and learn something about the way of the ninja. As for the food, unfortunately, there is no halal food option or a very limited seafood option. But overall experience was good and recommended for "Must Visit".
We had such an amazing lunch at Shinibi No Sato. The food was great and the atmosphere even better! The garden is beautiful with fantastic viewss of Mount Fuji. The staff and ninjas are wonderful and so entertaining. Highly recommend a visit here.
The Ninja Village is nice especially for kids and the staff was brilliant (I saw some families with children and they were having a blast). We were here for lunch as part of an excursion and the food was good, with vegetables available (so, healthy choices possible!). I only think there should be more food for these excursions as there simply wasn’t enough for everyone. Beautiful scenery and views of Mount Fuji!
Fun outing with the kids. When i came here pre Covid, there’s seafood set lunch. Now these’s none, so as muslim we have very very limited choice of food here (not recommended). There’s also an entrance fee of JPY1,800 per adult to enter this place (i deducted a star due to this). The place is clean and beautiful, with a garden overlooking mt fuji. Love that the place is not crowded even during golden week. All the ninjas (staff) were friendly and accomodative when you ask for pictures/ they even volunteer to take your picture.
Such a tourist trap. We stopped here for lunch during a Mount Fuji day trip. The buffet service was poor, with limited options and quantities. By the time I reached the buffet table, even the rice was almost gone. Despite there being two buffet tables, each group was only allowed to use one, which was badly organised. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Also, the toilets didn’t even have soap to wash your hands. The restaurant view was beautiful though.
Absolutely lovely place. Amazing food and atmosphere, even got to see a ninja. Make sure to walk the garden as well
Ate as part of a bus tour. It was buffet style. The food was mediocre and mostly cold (room temp). The "ninja village" aspect was pretty mediocre too. It looked like there was supposed to be some sort of activities or something in the garden area, but all looked disused and we're empty when we visited.
We came here as part of our mt. Fuji trip. Had an amazing lunch experience here. Food was really great. Having lunch with a view of the Mt. Fuji, luckily it was a clear day and the mount was perfectly visible. The garden was so nice, but we could not see the ninjas as expected, not do any activities as there was some work maintenance going on. But still, it was so nice to stroll around the place.

Stumbled upon this place by mistake after visiting Fuji. Made a nice end to the day.
One the place must come if you like the aquarium and underwater creatures. The place offer workshop for kids too. My three kids love the place we spend good 1-2 hours at this place.
Good place to spend time with kids
I love fish and fishing so I loved this place. Lots of cool creatures and only 400 yen
A rare gem! Children will enjoy this tranquil park. The slides are great!

You can have a great view of Mount Fuji from here. You can visit and put money in the basket for the Buddha. There is also a beautiful dragon-looking sink you can wash your hands in before you visit the Buddha. There is a shop where you buy some sayings written on paper, after you unwrap it you tie it on the string. As a tourist, you should go visit!
A well maintained old shrine near Oshino Hakkai. It was not crowded when we went. Enjoyed the silence while looking around. A great place to visit once in the area.
beautiful view of Mt Fuji. highly recommended to stop by
The best Mt Fuji and Sakura sightings are near this place! Save it for next season or your trip to Japan!!
If you like to collect Goshuin stamps I want to warn you so you don't get scammed like us. The person who does the stamp is barely speaks English, it is impossible to understand what he is talking about, he said something like 3. Then I thought it is 300 yen, which is the general price. Then he started to handwrite the signature with barely black ink, not the ones they usually use, more like a pen. He covered my 3 pages! Not a careful respectful handwriting, barely visible ink and 3 page of this. I was like okay I guess it is the thing here, and he told me 1000 yen? Nowhere is writing outside how much is the stamp and I am fully sure this price is for tourists. Not that I just got scammed 1000 yen for this but also a very careless job. To me this much special work shouldn't be rushed and this careless. I could collect 2-3 different nicer ones in different spots honestly. I should have checked other reviews, afterwards I saw people had the same issue. Just don't go there.

Small place but lots to see and do here in this aquarium. Showcasing mostly freshwater fishes that are native to the area but also some others. Not sure what was the occasion, but tickets were free during my visit here. Otherwise typically entrance tickets are charged.
For English speakers. This is a fun small local aquarium. Be aware, nothing is in English, except for the scientific names. Definitely geared towards Japanese children for the locals but still a fun aquarium to go to see more of the fresh water fish. There are plenty of fish and since nothing is in English it took us about an hour to get through. Never seen this big of a catfish or koi fish before coming here. The tank full of the fresh water fish with salmon was awesome to see and fun for the kids. The facility is definitely a bit run down but it almost feels natural with the moss growing the way it is on the facility. All in all, if you are out this way and need something to do with the kids this is a great place to go. The Sakana Koen has a playground and a water area for kids to play in on a hot day.
This place is beautiful from outside in! We loved the landscape outside, the lovely centre of displays of plants and of coz the exciting aquarium.
Small and nice, the kids enjoyed it. Toilet is available. there are some interesting Creatures. Most of the information are in Japanese, so a translation app is a must.
A quiet, peaceful place. A place for you who just want to enjoy the simple nature. The aquarium is just a very nice, neat, and educating place. They also have a study room too. Separated building from the aquarium, a place contains various of floras to study for.
Lovely place and the surroundings are beautiful. The food is delicious and steaming hot and the staff courteous. The fall colours are beautiful in November. The matcha ice cream was good. Good place for a lunch break
We can see many kinds of trout. The yamame trout, which has a colorful spot on its side, is very beautiful. There was a small stream near the aquarium, and my son played in the water.
Another unexpected find outside of the touristy Kawaguchi area. A quaint aquarium (500yen enterance fee) filled with small marine life catered for families with children. There is also a playground and a natural forest education centre behind the aquarium that are free to entry and equally nice to visit.

Oshino Village, located between Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka, is a charming and picturesque destination that offers a glimpse into traditional Japanese rural life. Best known for Oshino Hakkai, a group of eight crystal-clear spring ponds fed by the snowmelt of Mount Fuji, the village is a serene escape into nature and culture. The ponds, surrounded by lush greenery and traditional thatched-roof houses, are mesmerizing, with water so clear you can see the vibrant koi fish and pebbles at the bottom. Each pond has its own unique character, and the reflections of Mount Fuji in the water add a touch of magic, especially on clear days. The village also offers a variety of cultural experiences. Visitors can explore small museums, traditional buildings, and local shops selling handmade crafts and regional delicacies. The fresh wasabi, grilled fish, and mochi sold at stalls are particularly popular and give you a taste of authentic Japanese flavors. In winter, the village is quieter but equally enchanting, with snow-covered rooftops and stunning views of a snow-capped Mount Fuji. Spring brings cherry blossoms, while autumn boasts vibrant foliage, making Oshino Village a year-round destination. The blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and a tranquil atmosphere makes Oshino Village a perfect day trip or stopover when exploring the Mount Fuji region. Whether you’re seeking scenic views, traditional charm, or simply a peaceful retreat, Oshino Village will not disappoint.
Skip the place on the way to enjoy Mt Fuji views in Kawaguchiko. It’s packed as hell. Low quality street food that is served undercooked because there is a huge lines everywhere! Super crowded so you can barely enjoy views or take a picture. You would need cash (they don’t accept credit cards) that you can get from ATM in Lawson with 1% sky-high fee.
The staffs were very helpful and nice. I lost contact with my tour bus, and they tried very hard to help call up my tour guide. Thank you so much!

(Translated by Google) The reception staff's attitude was very disappointing. Even when I asked a question, they ignored me, prioritizing their work. I called out again and they finally gave me directions, but I was honestly disappointed by the unfriendly attitude, which was unlike anything you'd expect from a tourist information center. Even though it's a great tourist destination, I think a bad first impression can tarnish the overall image of the place. If they can't provide detailed directions, I feel they would have been better off just leaving brochures unmanned. I'll give it one star. This place just a Pond whats make it special is the backstory
A small pond with very clear water .
No ticket required cause nothing worth seeing. It’s just an ordinary pond
(Translated by Google) It is said that Choshi Pond got its name from its resemblance to a sake cup, a type of sake bottle. Choshi Pond is the only pond in the Eight Lakes where you can see water gushing from the bottom, stirring up sand. There is an ancient legend surrounding this pond. Long ago, a bride let out a loud fart during her wedding ceremony. Ashamed of what had happened, the young and naive bride ran away from the ceremony, picked up the choshi, and threw herself into the pond. Since then, the story goes, the beautiful bride's figure has been seen at the bottom of the pond. Based on this sad story, the pond is now known as a matchmaking pond. A stone monument at Choshi Pond is engraved with the following words: [Choshi Pond], [Fourth Sacred Site], [Washukitsu Ryuo], and a waka poem expressing the bride's sadness. [Waka] "When I draw water from this Choshi pond, the surface of the water ripples, like a river flowing with waves, as if expressing the trembling sadness of my heart." Trivia: The name "Washukichi" engraved on the stone monument means "nine heads" in Sanskrit. This dragon king is said to have nine heads, devour evil dragons, and protect Mount Sumeru. Also known as the "Kuzu-ryuou," he is worshipped in Japan as a "dragon god" residing in the water. It has great views of Mt. Fuji but the pond and surrounding tourist village is nothing special. There is some good Japanese street food available there though.

The photo corner seems to have a paid area and a free area, but of course I paid 500 yen to see the paid area as well. I had never heard of Kouyo Okada until now, but he must have had quite an influence, as his photo was used as a sample of banknotes. As expected, the equipment he used was from a long time ago, so I don't think his work is as good as it is today, but I was just thinking about how amazing the photos he would take if he were alive today. It's gone. The photos taken by other people are also very nice, and of course there is a huge difference from the photos taken by amateurs with their smartphones. I don't know how to take pictures, but I think it takes a lot of effort to go to the shooting location. As a photographer, you may not be able to take good pictures unless you devote your entire life to it. That's how it felt. To be honest, I only briefly looked at the picture postcards, so that's pretty much it. Kunio Koike's paintings of Buddhist statues are on display right after entering the room, and I felt that his generation was strongly influenced by Shiko Munakata. In fact, he seems to have interacted with Shiko Munakata (there was an exhibition of his portrait letters). Fuji photographer Koyo Okada's photographs look like paintings. Beautiful small village but very crowded on weekdays and weekends. No ticket required to roam around the village. Mt fuji is only visible on not so cloudy days ! Unfortunately i didnt get to Mt Fuji that day. Also can buy many souvenir in the shop there.
It's just a small sleepy lake with a few toriis and a "cabin". Sure, you could go on a small hike but I still don't see why you would get out of your way to come here (by the way, no parking and no restrooms)
We arrive at 6pm but almost all stalls are close so we couldn’t few the vibe, but there was still many tourist at that time. Feels like a very small places, not much to see.
Deguchi-ike Pond is the most secluded and least visited of the Oshino Hakkai ponds, mainly because it’s quite far from the main cluster. The area is quiet and calm, surrounded by more natural scenery, and has a peaceful, untouched feel. It’s not as pretty or well-decorated as the others, so if you’re chasing Instagram photos, you can probably skip this one. But if you’re someone who appreciates raw nature and stillness, it’s a nice spot to enjoy away from the crowds. Just take note, the road in is narrow, parking is limited, and there’s a small fee for parking.
The crowd was unbearable, and the shops closes early at around 4. There are english signs saying not to throw coins on the pond but is mostly ignored.
I would definitely recommend swinging by if you are visiting Oshino Hakkai: very quiet place to have a break from overturism :)
A lot of insects and not much to see. Walked quite a while from the main area was quite disappointed
Absolutely beautiful. Love nature and the views. A must visit.

Had a wonderful experience!
Amazing experience, highly recommended. IslandTravelSpecialists.com
love it, its really accurate for any destination!
(Translated by Google) I had two children try it out. The kid at the bottom was so scared and felt so good, I want to do it again! ,Well, can I do it?The older child is drunk, that's enough. Parents have a barbecue while waiting. If you look at it from below, it will fly very high. Fortunately, the weather was nice, but the weather forecast called for rain, so we started early. I left Tokyo at 7:30am and was able to arrive at 11am after taking a break. There were so many bugs before I even got off the car that I forgot to use insect repellent! I was in a hurry, but I was able to borrow it! But it's hot this time of year! Especially since it's a barbecue. In the summer, it was a good idea to bring a change of clothes to protect yourself from the heat. The children flying around said it was cool, but the parents grilling the meat were feeling hot. However, drinks can be purchased chilled in the refrigerator, and non-alcoholic drinks cost 200 yen, which is a hefty price. I was surprised to find out that the vending machine tea at Fuji-Q Highland was only 250 yen, so I'm even more thankful for it. Dragonflies are flying in groups. If your child likes insects, it is a good idea to bring a net. The younger children caught frogs, praying mantises, crickets, and collected strawberries while waiting for the older children to take flight. When we finished and arrived at our accommodation, a thunderstorm came. I thought it was a good idea to have it done early. I would like to visit again with my younger child.

However, there are deer's puss scattered all over the field, so be careful if you are interested. Also, the forest road at the entrance is so uneven that it will be a problem if you have a low vehicle. Strawberry farm near Mount Fuji With fertile soil, the yield is large, sweet, crispy, very tasty. Open for tourists to visit the farm. Along with being able to collect strawberries to eat within the farm, cut fresh from the tree, and because it is grown without chemicals, both fertilizers and pesticides, it can be eaten safely. There is no need to wash with water.
So happy that they were open! (Early May). For 2000 yen, they give you half an hour to walk down a designated aisle each to eat. It seemed like not much at first but there were so much to eat! These were the sweetest strawberries that I’ve ever tried and this is compared to strawberry picking in Uk which is usually known for their berries! 😋🍓
A ripped off! The lady owner forced us to only pick rotten strawberries. We can not pick any fresh strawberry we want to. She gave us 25 mins; 2,100¥/person, but we can not stand how she treated us badly, we left after 10mins. Cheating farm! Do not come!!!
Totally delicious, as never tasted before. Service not to welcoming and not cheap unless you can eat a lot of strawberries, we had lunch before and didn't eat much and were not allowed to take away.
Strawberry farm Grown with water from Mount Fuji Is another interesting tourist spot of this city Because you can choose to keep fresh strawberries And can eat at all. The farm will have fresh condensed milk to dip Come and enjoy all day. And can easily travel to Oshino Hakkai village
It was closed during golden week. Anyway, it's fascinating view in front of the farm.
Good family and children bonding with our own strawberry picking. We came in late April. Strawberries were plentiful, juicy, soft and sweet.
Good farm that have sweet strawberry. Owner can speak little thai language.
