Historic Walking Areas
Bustling district known for its narrow streets, food stalls & sweeping views of the mountains & sea.

Narrow Street with one way in and one way out. Mostly food stands/restaurants and not many redundant along the street. Good place to enjoy street foods and grab some souvenir while you’re there. It gets hectic once bus full of tourist pouring in. Nice Mountain and Sea view in the back of the alley. It’s a good half day trip if you from Taipei just make sure you leave early, because bus will be full of tourists and locals try to get home.
An old street with many good restaurants and souvenir shops. The main street is quite crowded after 5pm. The other street (walking distance) where you can explore and feel the peaceful of the area, and could see the sea, mountains, a breathtaking view!! Come here early!! *For stamp collectors: let’s come to Visitor Center, around 20 different stamps are waiting for you!!
So worth coming! Come just before sunset to still see the view but enjoy the lanterns when it gets dark. It's a big market with loads of shops, they all let you taste different things before you buy, so it makes it really fun! Best thing we did was going to the Jiufen teahouse, it was such a cultural experience, there is a tea tasting first and then you can go have a sit down after picking the tea you liked, you pay for 37g of which you only use a little and they pack the rest in a bag to go, so it's so worth the price! It's proper mystical and they teach you to use all the fancy tea equipment. We loved it!! We went Monday evening and it was busy, so weekend might not be the best plan. Also, it actually does look like from spirited away!
A good and nice old street to visit, filled with Real old markets, simple restaurants, and tea shops. They are narrow, shaded, and often get an air-conditioned breeze from the stores; inside the street, it's not as deadly hot as expected. However, it's very overcrowded, and you often get stuck while walking. Expect all-day-long traffic jam. So, allow for a longer time schedule to avoid rushing.
Jiufen Old Street is a charming mountainside village full of traditional tea houses, snack stalls, and beautiful lantern-lit lanes. The narrow alleys make the walk enjoyable, and the views of the ocean from the top are amazing. There are many interesting local shops selling souvenirs, desserts, and Taiwanese snacks. The place has a nostalgic feel, especially around the famous A-Mei Tea House area. It can get crowded, but the atmosphere and scenery make it completely worth the visit.
A hillside village, once called golden mountain city, which sees a lot of tourists. Narrow streets lined with all sorts of shops; something for everyone, you might say. Souvenirs, sweets, sausages, sour plum wine, squid jerky et. Al. The charm for me of this town were the well preserved, old tea houses. I managed to sample some alishan high mountain tea. Purchased some at a reasonable price. The street lanterns come to life at night and the viewing platforms allows you to absorb the atmosphere fully. A must visit even with the maddening crowds.
The place with a viewtiful view of the sea side and mountain. Plenty of food stalls and souvenirs shop. Ready your legs to walk on hundreds on steps going up and down. The famous tea shop can be also found here where they mentioned as the idea of the famous Spirited Away. If you don't have money for lunch, just accept the free taste offered to you by each stall 😁
This place is pretty but it was PACKED. Definitely a tourist trap (prices are higher than other places). There are also a lot of stairs, so you need to be able to handle the climb. With that said, if you could be there when its not packed to the brim it maybe a fun experience. I enjoyed the meal I had there and the people in the shops are very friendly.

Slide 1 of 8
Interesting and worth-to-visit geological tourist attraction point. However, since there is no shade, tree or other cool places, I highly recommend you to bring enough amount of cold water and sunshade. 1 or 2 hour will be enough to take a full tour.
Yehliu Geopark is such a cool place to visit! The rock formations are super unique, especially the famous Queen’s Head. The park is well-organized, with clear paths and signs that explain what you’re looking at. The ocean views are beautiful, and it’s a nice mix of nature and science. It can get pretty crowded near the main spots, but there’s plenty of space to wander around and take photos. The weather was a bit rainy and windy when I went, but it actually added to the atmosphere, the waves crashing against the rocks looked incredible. Even with the wind, the overall experience was amazing! Overall, an awesome stop if you’re near Taipei. Totally worth the trip for the views and the experience! Date of visit: November 2024
An amazing geological park with blue and magnificient ocean view. The rock formations are so fascinating to see and not to mention the beautiful view of ocean 🌊. Every spot is pictures worthy! However, during summer please prepare umbrella, hat or sunglasses with a bottle of water as the sun is glazing hot. It was 34°c when i was there around 12pm. Luckily, all my pictures turned out great due to the sunlight 😆 Besides, the park is huge with never-ending stunning rocks formation along the coastline. You can walk slowly while admiring the view. There are some stairs but it's not tiring. Overall, it was a great experience except for the weather 😅 next time, I will come early morning or late evening (sunset view). Definitely recommended for nature lovers 👍 !
Yehliu Geopark is an amazing natural wonder with unique rock formations shaped by the sea and wind. The famous Queen’s Head is definitely the highlight, but the whole coastal trail is beautiful and relaxing to walk through. The waves, the fresh air, and the geological shapes make it a perfect photo spot. The park is clean, well-maintained, and organized, and the viewpoints are easy to access. I came through Klook day tour, it would be better to book entrance ticket on Klook as well as it is not covered under day tour.
Amazing view of a natural rock formations. Such a beautiful place to visit! The journey, time spent, tiredness, all paid off when we arrived at the place. Though it was raining, hazy and slippery, I was still happy to finally be here. One of the best place to visit in Taiwan!✨
It was a decent place with rock formation that is quite unique. Visited at sunset so there were opportunities for good photos. It wasn't super crowded which is nice however there was a line to get a photo by "the queen". Overall a not bad experience. Easy to get tickets at the ticket booth.
The rock formations here were really cool! Unfortunately, it was raining during our visit and the wind was so strong that my tripod couldn’t even stand its ground. Still, I highly recommend booking a Klook tour for a smooth and hassle-free experience. Travel Date: NOV 2024
A truly unique natural wonder! The rock formations here, especially the famous "Queen's Head," are incredible and a testament to the power of nature. It's a great place to walk around and take stunning photos against the ocean backdrop. It can get crowded, so try to go early if you can. A definite must-see when you're in the area.

Tamsui is a district of New Taipei City, in north Taiwan. It sits at the confluence of the Taiwan Strait and the Tamsui River. Near the river, busy Tamsui Old Street is lined with shops, restaurants and vendors selling local specialties. Also here are the ornate Longshan Temple and centuries-old Fuyou Temple. Founded by the Spanish, the hilltop Fort San Domingo (Hongmao Castle) was revamped by the Dutch and British.

Shifen Old Street is such a charming and lively spot — it’s where tourists gather to write their wishes on colorful lanterns and release them into the sky. Watching lanterns float up with hopes and dreams feels so magical and heartwarming — definitely one of those must-do Taiwan experiences! The street is filled with souvenir shops selling cute trinkets and keepsakes, perfect for bringing a little piece of Shifen home. However, just a heads-up — there’s no halal food around the area, so it’s best to grab some snacks or a quick bite from the 7-Eleven near the entrance before you explore. The atmosphere is fun, a little crowded, but full of positive energy — everyone’s smiling, making wishes, and taking photos. Whether you’re releasing a lantern or just soaking in the vibe, Shifen will definitely light up your day (literally and figuratively)!
A truly magical spot in Taiwan! Shifen Old Street is a charming mix of nostalgia and life — a small street lined with local shops and food stalls running right alongside the railway. The colorful lanterns, the sound of the passing train, and the smell of grilled snacks make it a place full of character. The highlight is definitely releasing a sky lantern. Writing down your wishes and watching it rise slowly into the twilight sky is an unforgettable experience. Even with the crowds, the people here are friendly and welcoming.
A magical and unforgettable experience! Shifen Lantern Old Street is such a beautiful and unique place to visit. The atmosphere is full of charm — from the sound of the train passing through the narrow street to the colorful lanterns lighting up the sky. Writing our wishes on the lantern and watching it float away was such a special and memorable moment. The street food and small shops make the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Taiwan! ❤️🎋
Shifen is a popular tourist village located in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. It is famous for its stunning natural scenery, the iconic sky lantern releases, and its unique "train-track street." .Shifen Waterfall Often called the "Niagara of Taiwan," lol, it is the broadest curtain waterfall in the country, with a width of about 40 meters and a height of 20 meters. Two of the main attractions are releasing sky lanterns, a fun and unique local tradition, and visiting the scenic Jingtong Suspension Bridge.
Shifen Old Street is famous for the flying lantern where you can write your wishes. There are also plenty of food stalls and souvenirs at the area. We wait for the train but it's time for us to leave. Must try the sausages here. The lantern last for around 7mins per locals... The remains of the lantern like the frames are gathered by locals and sell to the stalls for recycling
Shifen Old Street is one of the most memorable stops during my trip to northern Taiwan. The narrow street runs right beside an active railway line, which creates a unique and charming atmosphere as trains pass through while people light sky lanterns along the tracks. It’s a great place to experience a blend of old-town nostalgia and local culture. The shops sell all kinds of snacks, souvenirs, and colorful lanterns that you can personalise with your wishes before releasing them into the sky. Watching the lanterns rise against the mountain backdrop feels peaceful and meaningful at the same time.
An old mining village inhabited originally by families on 10 plots of land whose villagers sent lanterns to inform those who had fled to the mountains that it was safe to return. The tradition of writing wishes on lanterns and sending them up to the sky has become a major attraction. Besides the food, of course. The ice cream with peanut shavings rolled in a crepe is a must try. And the chicken wings stuffed with glutinous rice and ham - how skin stretches that much i don't know. Visited on a weekday afternoon. Weather was sunny. Plenty of tourists but many shop offering the paper lantern send-off activity. There's also a temple to a local deity, Ma Zu here and the old railway station here.
Shifen Old Street is a unique and lively place built along active railway tracks. The atmosphere is festive with lantern shops, food stalls, and souvenir stores on both sides. The sky lantern experience is the highlight—writing wishes and releasing the lantern on the tracks creates a memorable moment. The area is colorful and full of energy, perfect for photography. Even with the crowd, the vibe remains joyful and relaxed. A great spot to enjoy local snacks and experience something truly Taiwanese.

It was rainy day when lantern festival was about to start, however, weather was pretty much nice what I expected, night view of Pingxi station was gloomy and nostalgic, I had a trouble with my easycard, train station staffs helped me to solve the problem with smile and they were also generous, helpful.
Beautiful station with lots to see around. You can visit Pingxi waterfall, Houtung station(also known as cat street) and finally go to Keelung for delicious sea food.you can plan a food at Shenkeng which is famous for tofu. Jiufen and Ruifeng are also good places. You can cover most of these in two days
Nice, well kept train station to retain some of the aura of the old times. Good place to take some photos and linger. Also has a clean bathroom to use after walking along the old street.
The Sky Latern at PingXi railways is an unique experience in Taiwan You can write down your own wishes with your friends and family.Light up the latern and it fly over the beautiful mountains.
It's worth to visit and not as crowded as shifen station! Don't forget to try grilled local sausage and peanut ice cream!!
Excellent place to put balloons with wishes into air in this old railway station. The people is so nice here. Salespersons, even in old ages, has an international language capacity to deal with balloon prices. There is also nice gifts to buy here. Several places are good for photo taking.
14 Aug 2016 We departed from Jingtong station. Honestly, this station has more sightseeing compare to Jingtong. The hotspot would be witnessed the train pass by overhead bridge and also releasing sky lantern on the track! Lesser crowd compare to Shifen.
I love this place! Just a little bit walk and you can get into a beautiful mountain. Perfect for a little escape of city life.

I visited Bali Old Street, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience! The place is filled with unique props, making it perfect for capturing amazing photos. We spent the entire day exploring its charm, and the sunset was truly breathtaking. As an Indian traveler, I enjoyed my brunch at Family Mart, adding a unique twist to the day. Highly recommend visiting for its picturesque vibe and serene beauty!
Short trip recommended. Food to try AhGei , essentially tofu wrap with glass noodles and fish paste on top. Rice noodle is a must. Fish balls are fantastic too. Next to the shop, try the Sour Plum juice, refreshing in hot weather. Take the River Crossing Ferry to the other side Bali Left Bank, walk the Old Street and enjoy the food.
Cute little market by the river . Very beautiful area to visit. Romantic walk along the river. Can easily take ferry boat from tamsui over. The river water level was very low when I went (mid July)
Definitely worth visiting on a weekend - it’s vibrant and lively along the riverside. There are old streets, delicious snacks, people relaxing, cycling. I prefer this over Tamsui. Ferry ride each way is NT40.
Bali Old Street is a great seaside attraction for the family, tourists, a good day out. Lots of food and games, lots to try to sample, lots of souvenirs, lots of Bali specific snacks. A fun day out! Take the ferry for $40 NTD to go across to Tamsui Old Street for more food and Tamsui specific snacks also!
There's no nice restaurant or café on the street front. I was quite disappointed. The transportation government provided was extremely very good. But all I saw was street vendors. Old style shop selling deep fried food steam corn and some herbal drinks. I didn't spend time here very long. It was quite boring.
A short ferry ride from Tsumsui. Return ticket at NT 80. You can also use the MRT card to tap for the fare. It's a quieter food area with some children playing by the beach. Went in summer so it's too hot to walk too far. Otherwise a good walk would be nice to see more things. A good ferry ride to have some views. Otherwise, there's not much activities. Seeing children and adults on bicycles... A wait for the ferry.. But it's very frequent so just be patient.
Cool old street lined with many food and snack stalls, across the river from Tamsui. Worth a stroll through

This footpath follows Keelung River & crosses over bridges as it approaches a well-known waterfall.

Pathed walkway, with bridges and steps along the way, slopes at some point but otherwise mostly flat. Great sceneries like the high highway. The waterfalls resemble a mini niagara falls. Somehow the volume of water is lesser during summer time. I suppose it will be nicer during other seasons.
It’s a pretty simple hike, or rather walk. You can see two suspension bridges, a tiny water fall and the actual shi fen waterfalls. It’s nice that it’s easy and free but overall it’s a little weak as far as attractions go. It’s really only an attraction because there’s nothing else to do there.
Beautiful falls. Nice walk to different views! Some food and souvenir vendors st the start. Taxi drivers really jack up the price to take you back into Shifen Old Street if you don't walk!
A pretty easy walk, but for those who have trouble on stairs better not go. The falls are nice.
This is a very easy half hour walk to the falls, so there’s really no need to take taxi there unless you’re in a big hurry Pretty scenic and a nice way to explore the countryside of shifen The only serious elevation is walking up a few stairs to cross the bridge, otherwise it’s pretty flat
A really nice experience. A lot of stairs and high slope to climb. If you are physically challenged, there are seats along the way. The waterfall observation deck is really good, there are 4 levels for the observation and I like how they put thought to make sure each level gives u a different perspective.
Nice scenery and easy enough and pleasant enough environment. Great for photos on clear sunny day. Lovely walk but can’t figure out if wheelchair accessible or not. Some places seem to have ramps while other areas are stairs only? (Maybe I wasn’t observing carefully since I don’t need it - sorry if not helpful).
A fantastically wonderful and well-maintained park with lots of gorgeous flowers and trees, snack stands, bridges, paths, and a totally spectacular waterfall. Grab a snack here, or go to Shifen Old Street later to have a relaxed meal there.

VERY nice bus stop, convenient transportation to and from Taipei.
Sold us tickets without telling us that the bus is going to be full. Needed to wait another 1,5 hours.
Sells tickets but doesn't inform that they are no seats left
Friendly staff, near a beautiful pond, drinking water available
took the bus here last year to go taipei on 2024.11.05 - arrive at 1130am to buy tickets from the staff and got queue number 3 and 4 - waited at the blue seats outside - took the 1207pm bus and when bus came, the staff came to call out the number in sequence for boarding - bus seats were spacious

Locals plan their time accordingly, arriving about 15 to 10 minutes beforehand to get their ticket. On weekdays, it seems everyone has a seat. / When I arrived, I was like... Glad I went to this place! Don't miss this out if you are already in Jiufen. The place is quiet and cool specially if you go all the way up to the Japanese shinto temple which offers a freat view of Jinguashih!
A place that really left a lot of impression on me, a trip to learn about history with a very creative and elaborate layout of the exhibition booths, the works still retain their daily light, That brings you back to a historical period where people conquered nature. This place is high in the wilderness, so the air is fresh, we went hundreds of steps to reach the top of the mountain, though we were tired, we did it. At the foot of the mountain is a bustling dining and shopping area with many guests from many countries in the world proving this is an attractive and famous place. Conclusion, this is a journey so memorable!!
Bad experience on VR booking system which is very inflexible. I am rating it 1 star because a) staff at counter stubbornly refused to let us pre-book the VR until a long time b) the booking system. You have to be onsite to book it and even though we were returning later that day, the person did not see sense. You cannot book by phone or pre-book. I think this is poor and should be entirely redone. I cannot explain how disappointed I am. Never coming back.
Great place to visit if you are making your way to Taipei from the south. You can touch a giant piece of gold and you can have gold panning and Benshan No.5 Tunnel Experience. Since the Japanese took over Taiwan once, there is a gold mine manager’s house which was completely reconstructed but reusing the materials and a delicious miner’s lunch box (a metal lunch box with what miners used to eat). Tickets are 80NT and I recommend you to come here at a partly sunny day, as you do not want too much heat because you will be walking, and not too cold because you will get very cold in buildings.
Really underwhelming. Its just an old mining town kept up, but the buildings are nothing special and there are no gold artifacts on display. Big waste of time. Spend it at the golden waterfalls and where the oceans meets the run off to mix the colours. It's much better.
I really loved the views here. It's very relaxing. Don't forget to stop by the golden waterfalls!

Nice building and interior facilities, staff were professional and friendly. Nice walk from train station. Overall pleasant experience!
Interesting ceramic process and history of how it was evolved to modern days artistic pieces. With many interactive along the way to help you learn. A good place for a weekend family outing!
I'd recommend it, and here's why: Pros: - affordable tickets (80nt is less than $3USD!) - free self lockers for your items (just fill out a quick form so they know who to contact in case you forget your stuff) - informative exhibits + a couple interactive ones - gorgeous pieces - good air conditioning Cons: - not as close to the Old Street as you think 😅 If you can, you should definitely visit and see all the beauty in person!
I loved this museum and enjoyed the videos on the different ceramic techniques. Shame the 3rd floor wasn't open so there weren't as many contemporary objects as I would have hoped(probably if there were more in the shop than on display), and not sure the future of ceramics section really worked, however, it is a beautiful space and the library is a wonderful resource and I was very jealous of whoever gets to use that. The staff there were very helpful and I will definitely come back. I think that reviewer who left two stars is very demanding and ungrateful of what they experienced.
NT80 entrance fee. 2 storeys of exhibits, mainly on the history of ceramics in Taiwan, how it started, how it was part of everyday life from being large containers for shipping purposes initially to daily life such as plates, bowls, food moulds to spiritual needs (in terms of deity statues and temples) to decorative (tiles, window, vases) and even as medical equipment (to grind or boil medication) etc. L1 is a display of modern day glazing techniques. I like that they have the audio guide on Messenger, so it's free-of-charge, self service, on your own device. There are also hands-on workshop here to make your own pottery item but because it takes time to fire the product, you won't be able to bring it home with you immediately after the session. There's also a big park behind the museum where they've some ceramic pieces on display.
A quiet little local museum in this quiet town of Yingge Building itself is quite a sight, as well as the exhibition are interesting, learned a lot about ceramics, based on it is a symbolic business in the region …however there are lots of room for whoever is managing to improve Love the buddhism figurines, so cute
So much better that initially thought. So spacious well designed. Unfortunately not enough time to visit the garden, will do that next time!
A ceramics museum in Yingge, free entry for local New Taipei City citizens, NTWD$80 for tourists. About 15 minutes walk from Yingge Railway Station. Displaying the history of ceramics industry in Taiwan. Not crowded in weekdays, not all the area are opening. A garden which is free entrance just connecting the museum.

Great place to visit. Especially for family and couples. Many people come here for the scenery of Sunset. It was too bad that we arrived at 6 which is already dark. Since COVID-19, there are much less visitors and people. We went on the Sunday evening, and it wasn't busy at all. There are not much choices of restaurants there, so we chose a Japanese restaurant. I will review that restaurant separately. Overall, it's great to visit here once for a while. I highly recommend to visit on the weekdays if possible when there are less people. I also highly recommend it as a dating spot.
A truly beautiful afternoon view. Time passed into the evening, with a romantic atmosphere for couples. Enjoying dinner and a cup of coffee near the beach was very comfortable for visitors.
A nice place to see sunset and some exotic buildings, take some good photos. I use to sitting on the long wooden porch on riverside, breezing, view the river, sea and sky. Waiting for sunset, then go back via the white arch shape lover’s bridge or take the ferry to the Tamsui old street and seeing night view along the riverbank. A very casual place but sometimes meaning boring, feel depends on who you’re going with.
.. It's a nice place to spend your afternoon, to watch the sunset and walk on the sea side. Have a lot of parking space, restaurants and food court, and you can also use the Comfort Room for free..
Most beautiful and romantic place for you guys that want to having fun with your loved one or even with your friends. There are big pinky fridge that designed very beautiful and attrack my eyes to keep seeing. And there are many ships and clean sea that give more attractive view. Beside that you can find many seafood store, supermarket, bus stop, and toilet.
The beautiful Fisherman's Wharf is located near Dan Shui area, it's a nice place for relaxation even for the after dinner evening walk on the Lover's Bridge, you can get to the Lovers Tower to view the sensational seaside 360 degree view, and if you love coffee, there's Starbucks around the side, ice cream and typical Taiwanese snacks are features. 淡水漁人碼頭不只是情人碼頭,也是一個飯後散步的好地方,情人橋上可看到對岸的八里,黃昏時可看日落拍照等。
See the ocean, feel the ocean. Superb place to see a spectacular sunset over the horizon. You'd get to see the sun sink into the sea without the flash of green.
It's very relaxing view especially if u are couples and have a date , will there no entrance here but the pay for transportation here from tamsui old street to fisherman wharf back on Fort is 120 its a little bit high but its so worth it.

I visited The Lin Family Mansion and Garden (林本源園邸) today around noon on April 26, 2025. As soon as we arrived, we realized that my father had accidentally left his phone in the taxi. Thankfully, we were able to contact the taxi driver, but we had no way to communicate properly. A kind gentleman working at the ticket booth helped us by speaking with the driver on our behalf. Thanks to his help, we were able to get the phone back safely. I was deeply touched by the kindness and helpfulness of the Taiwanese people. As for the Lin Family Mansion and Garden itself — it was just as beautiful as I had imagined. The traditional architecture and serene gardens created a truly unforgettable experience.
I went there on a Saturday afternoon. There were way less people than I expected. I got the entrance for free, because I'm a university student. The whole place is very nice and you can take many nice pictures. You can also go on a guided tour. I didn't go because there wasn't a space for me, but I met two guides while walking around and they introduced the place to me anyway.
The Lin Family Mansion and Garden is definitely a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience a glimpse of the past. The place is expansive, with many historic buildings and artifacts to discover.
A must-visit if you fancy Architectures, as well as the previous owner’s Business History in here :) At that time, the famous “觀稼楼”, where perhaps could look @ as far as their massive farming land fields🌾which stretch to Taoyuan Area. In modern days, you may still hear their business bank even in Indonesia🇮🇩where’s a part of Southeast Asian Business Regions🌊
INCREDIBLY peaceful and spiritual experience. The entire complex has been constructed with love and respect for nature using magnificent ancient architectural techniques. Truly a mist visit destination for natural beauty and peace.
A small cost of TWD 40 for entry, this heritage Chinese Lin Family Mansion and Garden gives you an insight into the very early days. Some areas where closed off, but worth a visit when your in Taipei.
A quiet place with few people. This was the family house of one of the richest families in Taiwan, they allegedly owned all the salt trade in Taiwan back then, now it's empty and nice to visit. This traditional building is a hidden chem and free for taiwanese citizens
Renovation going on. Too many closures and sealed up places. Signage vague. Not what it used to be. Can be embarrassing to bring guests here. Staff uncaring to visitors.

There are 2 paths from the parking lot. Going by the visitor center is a small trail over 2 bridges along a short pretty natural hike. The other is located following the road. Only use this route if you have mobility issues. There are bathrooms and food vendors near the waterfall. You can see the falls from an additional trail to take you to the base.
Amazing natural beauty. Nicely paved walking trail to get to the falls. Also beautiful foot bridges that are well constructed and maintained so you can get to the falls easily. Definitely worth the effort to get to and see the falls!!
Brief ESL review: So beauty. Easy family activity with kids. We enjoyed the scenic route to the waterfall, which included walking along the river, crossing foot bridges, and a pit stop for grilled sausages and mushrooms. My 80+ year old dad can’t walk very well so he waiting for us at the entrance. It wasn’t until we exited past the waterfall on the way back that we realized there is a wheelchair/strollee accessible entrance from the backend that allows those who can’t climb stairs to view the waterfall. Such a bummer, as I was wishing my dad could have enjoyed the sight with us. I personally liked this more than the lantern releasing activity down the road, especially after seeing lantern remains sprinkled all throughout the trees along the path to the waterfall.
Shifen Waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Taiwan and truly worth the walk. The path leading to the viewpoint is smooth and scenic with plenty of photo spots along the way. Once you reach the main platform, the waterfall looks incredible with a wide curtain of water surrounded by lush greenery. The air feels fresh and the sound of the falls is very calming.
Nice walk in the green forest to get to the waterfall however once we got the falls was disappointed with how fake it looked. The local vendors sold souvenirs to tourists and we were lucky the prices of food and items thankfully were not inflated for captive audiences. A quick visit if you're in the area is worth it, but don't plan your day around it.
A lovely hike up and down stairs and slopes to see the waterfall, in different angles. You can go as fast or as slow as you want, don't feel like you have to go with the crowds pace. Just a lovely beautiful place.
We walked to the waterfall from the train station — it’s not very far, and the path is pleasant, easy, and well-signposted. There are several lookout points to see the falls, and I recommend not stopping at the first one where everyone tends to gather. The best views are a bit further ahead and lower down — less crowded and more exclusive. There are plenty of restaurants and shops around, as well as bathrooms and other facilities. Overall, it’s a lovely waterfall to visit — abundant and medium-sized, definitely worth the walk.
Cool, a good place for family visits. I wonder if the boardwalk was worth the walk, since our tour did not offer us there. This should be added as a stop over for tourist. But I bet, this is an amazing place for those who'd like to be with nature and hear the sound of the magestic waterfall. I even see some with their moutain bikes.

Charming street featuring traditional red-brick buildings, shops, food vendors & a historic temple.
Slide 1 of 8
This is a charming old street filled with original authentic architecture. The shops sell mostly tourist items and souvenirs. There is not much to buy here. The temple near by is worth a tour. It has ornate columns and roofs. There's a lot of history to this temple.
less people during weekday still have traffic on this alley. Shops open about 60-70% if you love to do photo weekday is a lot easier to het great shots
Kind of a side trip for a day if you’re visiting the greater Taipei Many historical buildings, houses and temples that connects the township, full of nostalgic vibes and some photogenic scenes that offers great selfies Again, either taking a bus tour to visit or a cute little commuter train would be a nice way to get to Sanxia old street
Charming tiny (Baroque style building street) though it looks a bit different to those in Europe. it will be perfect and safer if they close the street for pedestrians ONLY area during the busy days , to better appreciate it, try to avoid the weekends and bank holidays and don’t forget to visit the temple nearby.
It’s such a beautiful area. Great spot to capture historical architecture. Lots of fun shops and food to try and check out. It feels like a “night market” except it’s during the day. By 6ish, most of the shops are closed. We tried the famed “golden triangle” buns and they do not disappoint. Lots of flavors to choose from. So glad we came!
The place is nice and close to the temple that you can roam around after the temple to look for some souvenirs and foods as well. Highly recommended.
Sanxia old street with the temple and the street food is so nice in Taiwan ❤️. It's our culture and easy life here.
A nice historic street with beautiful old architecture and a range of stores. The local speciality is cow horn bread (think of a croissant shape but with a chewier harder bagel style bread). It’s nice that both sides of the street are well preserved and that the street is mostly pedestrianized. This is similar to many old streets in Taiwan, but it’s worth a visit due to it being next to a particularly interesting temple. Note: if driving you should find parking and walk to this area as it’s quite crowded.
