Fried chicken takeaway
Hot-Star is a renowned stall located in the Shilin Night Market in Taiwan, known for serving some of the best deep-fried chicken cutlets, also known as jipai. The stall attracts long queues due to its massive and flavorful chicken cutlets that are the size of a person's face. Customers can choose between spicy or plain flavors and enjoy the crispy and well-seasoned taste.
Love Hot-Star so much, it's my go to every time I visit Taipei. I have lost count the amount of times I have had it. Its always has the crispiest/crunchy outer coating, super juicy inside and has the best flavor. The consistency over the years is simply amazing!
Kris T — Google review
XXXL size fried chicken chop. Tender. Crispy. But the chicken was too big (in a way) we were so stuffed after eating just one of this. The staffs worked efficiently. There were staff members dedicated to keep the queue on line. Overall, worthwhile to try but I don’t think I will go back to frequent this often.
Ky Y — Google review
Definitely a must try if you visit Taipei/Shilin Market. The chicken is so huge. Every chicken served is always fresh and hot out of the deep fryer. You have an option if you want it spicy or not. There are other Hotstar branches in different country, but having it in Taiwan will definitely complete your whole Tiawan experience!
Luigi S — Google review
Super huge chicken fillet, super juicy & good protein. You can tell this is fresh chicken, not the frozen thingy. The favor & crunch is just right. The zie-zag queue also super long if you go for it afyer sunset. My recommendation go earlier around 5 to 5.30om & continue your exploration through Shilin night market.
Justin W — Google review
Saw all the hype for XXXL Taiwanese fried chicken, so decided to head to Shilin Night market. The chicken stand is close to the street and there a huge queue but it moved quickly. Order the spicy version. The chicken cutlet is huge and very reasonably price. Its crispy and tender but most of the flavor is in the seasoning they sprinkle on at the end, in my case spicy chili pepper flavor that mostly coated on the outside breading. Its still super hot as it came right out of the fryer. The chicken itself is on the bland side. Visit for the novelty and the experience but in terms of taste, there are more tasty fried chicken out there.
Lam T — Google review
📍Place: one of the most popular place for fried chicken, it's basically a food stall at the side entrance to Shilin Night market. 🍛 Food: I am not a big fan of chicken thighs (even if it's bonless), but this one was amazing. Super crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside, well spiced making it slightly hot, but it is just adding to the taste. Occasionally you can find some small bones in it, but overall it's perfect. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: prepare for a long queue, it is very popular, I was waiting 15 minutes, but it's worth it.
Viktor L — Google review
Hot Star chicken refers to a Taiwanese-style fried chicken from the Hot Star Large Fried Chicken chain, known for its extra-large, flattened chicken cutlets. The chicken is typically a butterflied chicken breast, battered with a mix of potato and tapioca starch for a crispy, yet tender, result, and then deep-fried. It is a popular street food from Taiwan's night markets, available in various seasonings and styles. The large fried chicken cutlet is its signature feature, often described as being larger than a person's face. The menu also includes other fried items like popcorn chicken bites, fries, and fried oyster mushrooms, as well as drinks. In my opinion, it’s fried chicken! How can you not love this stuff. I don’t understand the 1 star reviews. For the price you’re paying especially when you’re a tourist it’s a lot of protein at $3 and change Canadian. It’s so big you can literally share it with another person.
Eddy W — Google review
Hot Star chicken in Shilin Night Market. The queue was long. But the servers were very efficient and did a great job. Big chunk of deep fried chicken; crispy batter & moist chicken. The spicy one is saltier & tastier than the original one. Although there was no bone on the top part of the fried chicken, there were some bones at the end of the chicken pieces.

When in Taipei, make sure to visit SHI YUN Taiwanese Fried Chicken Main Store for a delightful culinary experience. The most popular item on the menu is the salt pepper chicken, which comes boneless and generously portioned. While the seasoning leans towards the lighter side, the overall flavor is satisfying. The fried calamari and sweet potatoes are also available but may not be as impressive as other offerings. For a fun dining experience with friends, consider trying out their variety of fried items served on paper.
Been here countless times during my stay in taiwan few years ago, and just came here again recently. The food taste didn’t change at all, it’s still one of my favorite comfort foods (unhealthy one😂). Best part is that you can add your own extra seasoning to make it more salty and spicy. Loveee the soft tofu and chicken the best. Should definitely come here if you haven’t already been before !
Mugsey — Google review
We ordered through Uber Eats and it took a while to arrive, which may skew the rating a bit due to fried food should be eaten hot. Nonetheless, some of the items we’d ordered were good and others were so so. The egg tofu (just a name as there was no egg in it), the sweet rice stuffed in pig intestines and cucumbers (yes, you’ve read that correctly and we didn’t know you can deep fry cucumbers) were very good. I guess the old saying “it’s true that anything deep fried is good” has some truth to it. Others such as tempura and chicken were just okay.
Big C — Google review
This one is 100% recommended & must try!! They sells Taiwanese fried chicken and the other fried stuff. The squid and chicken taste really good. Besides, they also sell a tasty curry rice! If you buy the curry rice, they provides a free drink.
Gede D — Google review
Excellent fried chicken and other fried companion food was also tasty. The freshly chopped, deep fried garlic lifted the taste by a notch. Strongly recommended. Service can be a bit slow but mostly because they made every single order a fresh batch. Worth the wait.
Nancy B — Google review
Unknowingly ordered 300NTD worth of food here. It is very easy to over order if you want to try a variety of items. Chicken was good, though not the best. Love the french beans and shisamo.
RCSC — Google review
Got the fried chicken (no bones) and the fried calamari (squid?) And fried sweet potatoes. Overall, seasoning was nice but maybe on the lighter side. Chicken was yummy and the portion for 60NT was big. I would skip the squid next time, it's like a huge chunk of squid and not tentacles and thus tastes really bland like chewing an eraser. It seems like a lot of fun eating a bunch of fries stuff on a piece of paper with a bunch of friends in their sitting area. 😍👍
Vivian S — Google review
I think this restaurant just a normal Taiwan style fried chicken stand...not many differents to others, but the foods are still great! Highly recommend curry rice with fried chicken if you want to fill up your belly,or you can grab some chicken pop corns for a snack
詹皇誠 — Google review
The best item here is the fish balls. They are huge and substantial. Close seconds are the glutinous stuff: sweet taro mochi and sticky rice sausage. The skewers have the perfect amount of breading, and always come out hot and fresh despite the crowds. They are not saucy but more the dry and crispy type which they do so well. You can switch it up with a side of curry to soak up the grease. Green beans are the best vegetable pairing imo. There is downstairs seating with stools at a couple high tops/bar.

Flea & Street Markets
Raohe Street Night Market is a lively and historic night market in Taipei, offering a wide array of shops and street food vendors. The market is a nostalgic representation of the city's culture, with traditional gates at the entrances and the iconic Songshan Ciyou Temple nearby. Visitors can wander through narrow lanes adorned with red lanterns and enjoy local treats such as black pepper buns, beef noodle soup, and scallion pancakes.
Visited Raohe Night Market on a Sunday night. It was very crowded but had such a lively atmosphere. The place felt safe and well-maintained, surprisingly clean despite the huge number of people. I absolutely loved the food; so many delicious choices and everything I tried was worth it. A must-visit when in Taipei!

white wine clams were super super good , the dessert shop with the old lady i highly recommend (inside a restaurant) it is SOOOO GOOD and friday night was pretty crowded. beef was alright... abit tough for my liking and the mochi is very interesting concept. but nice coz very chewy and handmade on the spot . would definitely come again
En O — Google review
Legendary night market This is the one everyone is talking about. So glad we finally got the check it out. We went right at opening and the market was already packed. Two giant columns of stall after stall. My main issue is that it was so overwhelming. I was sad that I wasn't able to try it all. My favs were probably the fuzhou pepper buns (toasty buns cooked in a tandoori style oven filled with pork), the stinky tofu (super concentrated flavor, much stronger than what I have had in the states), and the roasted pork (I always love the look of giant hanging slabs of pork. It was super tender with a crisp crust. Loved how they sprinkled on five spice to finish the dish). We also tried the Gua Bao and grilled trumpet mushrooms/zucchini which were excellent. The freshly made shrimp rice rolls, which while looking amazing, were a tad too doughly for my taste. Washed it all down with a craft Raohe beer from TimeBeer, which offers free seating and welcomes outside food, with a purchase, of course. Will need to come back.
Ken C — Google review
Out of all the night markets I’ve been to in Taipei Raohe night market has got to be my favourite. It’s exactly what you would expect from a Taiwanese night market, fully brimmed with food stalls and also external restaurants and stores on the side. So many places you must visit here food-wise and everyone is super friendly and famous for their specialities. It’s one big line that you just need to walk both sides of and surprisingly there’s barely any rubbish because all stalls take the trash regardless of what stall you got it from. Must go for first timers in Taipei!
G — Google review
The food are pretty nice and there are a great variety of food stuffs. Please see attached photos and videos including those hawkers owners "working in progress" preparing their food from the start to its finished products. Despite the rain when I was there on 22nd October 2025 many shops were closed. I love to come back for all the food there.
Paul S — Google review
Raohe Night Market is an absolute must-visit! The place is always bustling with people, full of energy and amazing aromas everywhere. There are so many different foods to try — we indulged in the famous pork buns, crispy fried squid, doughnuts, and even a delicious melon pan–style bread, among others. The variety is incredible, from savory street snacks to sweet desserts. Every stall offers something unique, and it’s easy to spend hours wandering around, tasting a bit of everything. It can get quite crowded, but that’s part of the lively night market experience. If you love food adventures and don’t mind the crowds, Raohe Night Market is definitely worth the visit!
Dimple V — Google review
There are an enormous number of people. Although not very large, the narrow alleyways are densely packed with shops along the two sides of the road. There is a lot of food, but be careful as the smell of pork bones and stinky tofu can make you feel confused. The lines at famous restaurants are very long, and it's not easy to taste anything. However, if you want to see Taiwan's representative night markets, it is a must-visit place.
M P — Google review
Raohe Night Market is my MUST visit everytime I come to Taipei. I like the food there and it gets crowded on Fridays and weekends. It was rainy Oct Taipei this time round for me, many stalls were not open due to the non stop rain for days. Big I was glad u managed to eat all the food I like. Still my best night market to me in Taipei 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Chinese noodle restaurant
Taiwanese restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Taipei, Yongkang Beef Noodles is a beloved culinary gem that has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 1963. This unpretentious eatery specializes in Taiwanese beef noodle soup, renowned for its rich and flavorful broth that simmers for hours with an aromatic blend of soy sauce, ginger, star anise, garlic, and five-spice.
So good to be back here after many years for the beef noodles. They are just as good. The beef broth is full bodied made from beef bones. The beef tendon and meat are all soft with good texture. Their steamed spare ribs with rice powder and steamed large intestines with rice powder are also the must order. The seasoning for the spare ribs and intestines are very satisfying. Intestines are properly cleaned. Do order the side vegetable dishes to add to the mains. Fresh and tasty. Be prepared to queue as there is usually a line especially peak hours. Service is very good. Space can be a little tight and if u have bags with you, look for bag hooks on the table legs. They are very handy when space is tight.
Trotting H — Google review
Really solid bowl of 牛肉麵! The broth had a great depth of flavour but wasn’t too heavy. They were also generous with the meat, which is always a plus! We also ordered the 排骨 which was really special and the 炸醬麵! Everything was really solid and would definitely come again! Don’t sleep on the side dishes either (my fav was the lotus root and the eggplant)
Jade L — Google review
This is the best beef noodle spot recommended by my cousin who knows food really well. I loved it! The beef noodle soup does not have tomato in it (or at least I couldn’t see or taste it). The eggplant and string beans were a good addition. Saw a lot of people who ordered the rice powder dish (it looks like fried rice). My friend and I came on a Sunday around noon and waited about 10min. The turnover is pretty quick, and staff is friendly.
Heidi L — Google review
Finally made it here, this must be one of the top 5 must try beef noodle shop for tourists in Taipei. Soup & noodle were ok but I was disappointed by the texture of the beef. The meat breaks apart easily in your mouth but tastes dry and sticks to the gaps between your teeth. This is the most I’ve ever paid for beef noodle by a big margin so I’d have to rank it bottom of my list. The guy next to me ordered the dark broth version and it looks tastier.
Drlogan D — Google review
I dropped by on a weekday late morning, there was a queue of maybe just 5 groups infront of me, possibly due to the rain. After 10-15mins wait, we got in and was placed with another group of 2 to share a table. Ordered the large beef and tendon noodles and a side of steamed pork rib. They have a variety of other side dishes which we skipped. The steamed pork rib came first, the flavour and texture is so unique, I believed its mixed with sticky rice, and pumpkin at the base of it. The beef noodles would be one of the best I’ve had so far, the meat is tender and easily fall apart upon bitting while the tendon just melts in your mouth. Would definitely come back again if I ever visit Taiwan.
Kenneth T — Google review
The beef noodle taste as standard taste in popular restaurant in Taipei. Soup is good with chinese herb as standard soup in Taiwan and taste is mild and balance with a slightly salty taste. Beef and tendon is ok, not very soft. Noodle has soft texture with little chewy. The texture is in between ramen and udon. Verdict: overall taste is in standard of beef noodle in Taipei. By the way, this is famous restaurant with long story in Taipei. You can try. The down side is you have to share the table with others if your group not fulfill the seat in your table. By the way, the taste noted in mind is the wonton with peanut sauce that makes me notice of this restaurant. I like the wonton with peanut sauce here a lot, recommended.
Fankuroll — Google review
The noodles are good but not one of the best we tasted. There are two serving type, solo and for sharing. It is not salty or oily and the little spice for the flavor. The place is not that big but comfy to eat. Serving is fast as you will not that long to get your order.
John J — Google review
Excellent flavor and perfectly balanced broth. The beef is incredibly tender and soft, and the noodles are cooked just right. A great place to enjoy authentic Taiwanese beef noodles🍜.

Chia Te Bakery is a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Taipei, especially those on the hunt for authentic Taiwanese treats. Renowned for its exquisite pineapple cakes, this bakery has been delighting visitors since 1975. Each square-shaped pastry features a soft, buttery crust enveloping moist and mildly sweet pineapple filling that’s simply irresistible.
Still my favourite Pineapple Pastry from Taiwan after all these years. It seems like there is always a queue, but it does move steadily as they only allow a certain number of customers in the shop at a time so you have an enjoyable shopping experience. Get an order list whike you wait, so you know what you want to buy. There are other pastry souvenirs too, with some that are limited per person
William L — Google review
ChiaTe is a well-known bakery and their premium packaging is perfect for souvenirs and delicious treats. If you buy directly at the store, you can mix different types of pastries in one box. Box sizes come in 6, 12, or 20 pieces. I really like their Egg Yolk Pineapple Pastry — the crust is soft, and the filling is rich and flavorful. I also enjoy the nougat green onion cookies. The cookies has a nice savory onion taste, and the nougat filling is just the right amount of sweet without being too sticky. I also tried the red bean glutinous rice cake, which was still warm when I got it. Surprisingly, it was really good — the rice cake was soft and chewy, and the red bean paste was smooth and tasty. The service is quick and friendly. It’s best to come a bit early so you have more pastry options and avoid the long lines. The shop is clean and well-organized, with clear labels and pricing for each item.
Tessa W — Google review
Amazing pineapple cakes and must have souvenirs if you’re visiting Taiwan/taipei. Expect to see a long line but it goes quicker than you would think. They have a large selection of pastries but I can only recommend their pineapple cakes there. They’re a cut above the rest and you can get them in very large servings. Do note that they have an expiry date and should be consumed within a week. I really recommend to have it within the first three days because of how status they are. The prices are bit more compared to your usual pineapple cakes at the supermarket.
Alan H — Google review
Worth to come here! The selections are massive. Feels like a kid in a candy store. Staff speaks english. Do ask for a order paper before line up outside. Line move fast, dont worry. Do come early for freshest batch!
Malvin H — Google review
If you want to buy their Pineapple Pastries AND Wife Cakes, you need to queue in as early as 7:00 AM. I went at about that time, and there was already a queue once I got there. Anyway, at 8:30 when the bakery opens, the line moves pretty fast. I would suggest that you already have what you want in mind so that you’ll be able to check out much faster. I was able to leave the store at about 9:15 because it took me awhile to decide what to get. Not bad. Verdict on what I bought: I’m not too much of a fan of egg flavoring in pastries, so I skipped out on buying a box of the Egg Yolk flavored pastries, and I’m glad I did. If you’re not a fan of those, you can definitely just buy individual packets for you to try but I wouldn’t recommend getting a box. I bought a box of the mixed Pineapple and Pineappple-Cranberry Pastries and MY GOSH — they were quite literally one of the best pastries I’ve had in Taiwan! I will definitely get more of these the next time I’m going back to Taiwan. And the WIFE CAKES were really good as well. Make sure you get the wife cakes because they’re limited!!! Overall, I’m quite happy and satisfied with what I bought! Chia Te is definitely one of the spots you should go to in Taiwan!!!
Jam — Google review
Chia Te is really the OG of Taipei pineapple tarts. The queue everyday shows that. If you don't want to queue, there are 2 ways 1. Come at night, about 1 hour before closing. Cons only have the basic items/long shelf life items, e.g. pineapple tarts, maybe sun cakes, sesame pastries. 2. If you are in Taipei at least for 4 days, order on your 1st day & collect on your 4th day. Order collection can only be done 3 days after ordering. If you want to soak in all the atmosphere of buying pineapple tarts at Chia Te, then come in the morning. Either from opening time at 08:30 (queue already formed before opening time) or at about 09:30-10:00. This is when some of the short life pastries will come out fresh. Usually it will disappear very fast. I still couldn't get the pork mung bean cake that I've been eyeing. Service is pretty good. There are staff to watch the door, and staff to help you if you need any help. You can create you own set or buy the pre-packed set. Note there are separate boxes for pineapple tarts & pastries, you can't use tart box for pastries & vice versa, just ask the staff. Payment can be done with cash / card. There is no tax refund here. Chia Te also provide packing boxes for extra fee. Tips: if you are buying pineapple tarts for yourself, I suggest to check out the plastic box tarts. They have shorter shelf life & some maybe a little bit crushed. It's much cheaper NTD 350 for 12 pieces and still tastes the same, just sans packaging.

First time here in their actual shop, their Pineapple cake and Sun biscuits (Limited stocks per day) are my favorites here. If you have time, visit their shop. The varieties are so much more especially the sun biscuits are limited in stock. Was lucky to get the last 2 boxes. 😃

One of the best cranberry tart ever. And now due to mid autumn festival they also sell mooncakes. Looks like long queue but they move fast. You can also buy boxes to pack your goodies for easy travel. Definitely recommend

Restaurant
Taiwanese restaurant
Located at #274, Section 2, Bade Road in Taipei, Lin Dong Fang is a must-visit for those craving delicious beef noodles. This renowned restaurant has been serving traditional beef noodles for over three decades and is famous for its special broth made from ancient Chinese medicine spices. Despite its unassuming appearance, Lin Dong Fang is highly regarded by locals as the go-to place for beef noodles.
This is a famous noodle place which exist since long... it was a small stadle and now moved to nicer locals. Local people recommended me this place for beef noodles...however they always go there late at night when everything else is closed and after drinking, apparently. The place is okay decorated.... look clean. The staff have zero smiles and don't really talk or help. They just take order and bring you food! The beef noodle is good... the noodles are well cocked, beef is tender , the soupe has a good taste with some herb (Chinese herbs, i guess). It's a good experience...
Aslan H — Google review
Lin Dong Fang is among several places listed as the best beef noodle soups in Taipei and is a particular favorite with locals. It started as a small stall but the current location is a modern, clean and multi-story restaurant with a laminated menu and table service (although utensils and spicy beef paste are self serve). However, judging by the empty space and the noodle soup I had, it’s hey day are probably past and I much preferred Yong Kang Noodles. I found the broth to be very mild even when I added the spicy beef paste and although we tried multiple versions, the beef cut and toughness was present in every bowl except for one or two pieces that were tender. The tendon was very soft but the noodles (only one type) tasted very manufactured rather than fresh made. Prices are affordable and service was fast with zero wait but overall underwhelmed. 📷 Half Tendon/Half Beef Noodle Soup Small NT$260 / Beef Tripe Noodle Small NT$260 / Beef Noodle Small NT$210 / Hua Gan ~ dried tofu in beef broth NT$40 Dining is indoor only, no reservations required and they accept credit cards

Broth and beef was alright. The highlight for me was the super chewy and thick noodles. Loved it alot. Portion size was also quite big even for the small portion. We arrived in Taipei late at night so it was great that this place was opened till late. There was also no queue at all around 10pm.
Dolce B — Google review
Noodle is ok, not bad. The soup taste is mild and balance well. Beef softness is well cooked. I visit due to this shop is one of the top list for beef noodle in Taipei. I don't give three atar since the noodle still enjoyable. Overall is ok. If you don't like atrong tasts, old school beef noodle. The beef is soft and tendon also soft at good level. For the price is juat average price for beef noodle in this area. You can come to try, the queue not build up when I visited. The down point is I order just beef soup but get the beef noodle instead.
Fankuroll — Google review
Good taste Great beef texture Soup with added spicy butter is 👍 great. Not a fancy decorative restaurant, the restaurant just focus on the food. The environment is clean. Good, can recommend to go
Yw C — Google review
A+ [would come again / 還會再來] · this is a famous traditional beef noodle in Taipei thats known for their signature spicy beef butter · their large size looked like small size (stingy portion for the price because famous) · their beef slices tasted perfectly tender + juicy (about 6 large slices) · i liked how they added more soup when we asked (bonus points since we were given very little soup in the beginning) · add their spicy beef butter to enhance flavor (its a must) · its open during late night hours for 宵夜 (went around 1 am) tldr: a must try beef noodle restaurant that has stingy portion but perfect for late night snacking
Meow C — Google review
A decent bowl of noodles but definitely not the best in Taiwan. The beef was tender but the soup and the noodles weren’t that special. They also really hurry you to order so it felt a bit rushed inside.
Jade L — Google review
If this is Taiwan’s most famous beef noodle stall, then this is giving Taiwan’s iconic dish a bad name. The soup is limp, thin, yet very salty and full of msg. Beef tendons are very tough. Food is served without chopsticks, with no chopsticks around the shop in sight. When I walked around the shop looking for chopsticks, the staff sitting against the table looked displeased that I interrupted her rest (is she having a break or is she just idling around?), as she pointed to a black box. But service aside, honestly find the beef noodles here terrible.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is a must-try when visiting Taiwan, particularly at its bustling Ximending location. The super-sized fried chicken boasts a crunchy breading and well-seasoned taste, with the inside turning out juicier than expected. While some find it less spicy than before, others appreciate the toned-down spice for tourists. Despite mixed reviews on dryness, many enjoy the crispy texture and non-greasy flavor.
Not sure about the low rating but the fried chicken was juicy, hot and delicious, there’s constantly ppl ordering, so need to wait awhile while they are frying fresh batches of chicken. There’s no spicy option now, so just one original type. Closes quite late, so definitely a good supper option.
Jerald K — Google review
I have been waiting for years to try Hot Star and I finally got my chance. It was HUGE, as big as your face, piping HOT, and NOT boneless. Majority of it did not have bones until near the end of the piece. It's super juicy and very tasty. Definitely very inexpensive for this much chicken. Would definitely come again and it is recommended. Just wished it was boneless.
T T — Google review
Fresh and crunchy! What The big piece of chicken! It was really good. I believe it was a piece of chicken breast/rib combo because the bottom part of the chicken was the bone part. So if you think the whole piece is a chicken meat, sorry. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually appreciated the bone part of the chicken as well. I love that it was freshly fried. For being freshly fried it didn't feel oily and was very crunchy. It definitely was hot and you need to nibble at it first. There was a lot of the seasoning, whatever the seasoning was, it was GOOD!! Environment This was in Ximending street. It is a stall and there is no seating available. you order and find your seating. It could get busy and chaotic. Niceness of the staff He just wants to take my order and fulfill my order. Let's say that's as far as it went Dollar It was very cheap comparing tot he US. Yes Definitely yes. Worth the hype.
Wendy C — Google review
Worth the experience. Super-sized fried chicken on the go, super hot & crispy on the outside & inside was a lot juicer than expected. One order was plenty for 2. Order the chicken first as you can get a discount coupon for the Juice & Tea shop next door. We got the Juice b4 the fried chicken.. should've known!

One of the best friend chicken to try on. Their fried squid is tasty. They charged 2NT for a take away bag.

Huge Taiwanese Fried Chicken! Better flavor profile than their competitor (M). Looks affordable also. However, customer service needs improvement. The one selling is a little short-tempered (in the morning!?) 😂😂😂
Anthony A — Google review
Fooled by the Q, should have check the review before buying. The chicken is indeed large at TWD 100 but it is tasteless and dry. Thick coated flour makes everything worst. Taste: 1/5 Portion: 2/5 (60% flour) Price: 1/5
Byean — Google review
I'm not sure how the original stall in shilin tasted but food from this particular store wasn't good. I picked to eat the fried chicken pieces and tofu. Neither of it was good because they were hard and coarse. I didn't like the chicken texture. The fried tofu had more batter/flour then the tofu. Both items were "over fried", so it was tough. Maybe the original stall is better.

Huang Ji Braised Pork is a hidden gem located just a short walk from the metro station, making it convenient for both locals and tourists. The restaurant is popular among locals, evident from the queue outside during lunchtime. While the menu is in Chinese, the staff can assist English speakers in choosing dishes. It's advisable to have an idea of what to order beforehand by checking out photos and reviews.
Their Kakuni (big dice chunk braised) Pork meat is the best. My wife doesnt like the smell but the meat is tender and juicy. Blend well with the soy sauce on top of hot white rice. My recommendation to accompany the kakuni rice bowl will be Radish Soup (with chunk of meat bone as well) and stir fried veggie with rice noodle and meat. Its really good. A lot of japanese came visiting this stalls as well they even prepared japanese menu. This stall also recommended on Michelin’s Guide for B gourmet. Do try it!!! You will be surprised with the quality and waiting time. Hahaha
Yan P — Google review
Seems to be really popular with the locals. I was there at an off peak hour, 4pm and while there isn't a snaking queue, there were 5 orders before mine and a constant flow of diners. I ordered a 鲁肉饭便当 which comes with 3 sides and got an additional braised egg. The rice is not as sticky as I would like (not the pearl rice texture) but the braised pork is really good! I like that you can really taste bits of meat and not just fats and a good portion that covered the rice well. The braised egg was also very well braised through. Even the marinated seaweed side was good. A good 鲁肉饭, worth a queue if you are in the area, but not something I would travel all the way for.
Daphne Y — Google review
I was initially hesitant to try the braised pork belly rice here after reading reviews that the rice they use is not the slightly sticky/gluey kind that I prefer, but I’m so glad I gave it a try! The generous serving of sauce and layer of well seasoned minced pork went surprisingly well with the short grain rice which soaked up the flavours while remaining discrete and yet surprisingly moist. The braised hard boiled duck egg was a really great add-on as it was unexpectedly flavourful. As is to be expected for such popular eateries, I arrived around 1225pm on a weekday and waited till 1240pm before I got a table. The nice lady at the entrance made the system of ordering, getting the queue number for the table, payment etc, very easy even for a first timer.
WL L — Google review
Definitely one of the best braised pork rice i try while in Taipei. The 卤肉饭 sauce goes really well with the rice. Expect a queue if you come late, and some items may be sold out if you arrived late. Never miss this if you are around the neighborhood!
Kelvin W — Google review
Hands down one of the best bowls of braised pork rice in town. We’ve tried many and we unanimously agree this was the best we had on any trip to Taipei. Highly recommended! all of the positive reviews speaks for itself!
TING L — Google review
SO DELICIOUS Definitely one of the best braised pork over rice we’ve had in town. We arrived around 12:30pm and there was already a line. We got their queuing ticket but it was a little confusing so we asked the local in front how it works. The aunty that manages the queue was kind and understanding. Super clean space, affordable price, and very very delicious, highly recommended!
Bo N — Google review
Despite opening at 11:30 a.m., the restaurant already had a queue of ten tables by 11:40. Dine-in guests faced a 20-minute wait, while takeout orders required about 30 minutes. Humble in appearance but rich in flavor, this spot lets its classic Taiwanese staples speak for themselves. A well-balanced mix of locals and visitors filled the space, all drawn by the promise of authentic tastes. Among its specialties, the Braised Pork Rice(控肉饭)stood out—the pork was so tender, it practically melted in the mouth. It's the kind of place for someone who wants to eat like the locals do—without frills, but full of hear
Sebastian T — Google review
👎I do not recommend this place for tourists. 😡The woman who takes orders behaved in a discriminatory way—she intentionally ignored me, and I ended up waiting much longer than the local customers who arrived after me. The ordering process works like this: each customer takes a menu/bill, fills it out, and returns it to her. Most restaurants I’ve visited are willing to help with translation or menu selection if I explain that I cannot read or speak Cantonese. Unfortunately, this server was not willing to help at all. When I asked for an English menu, she eventually provided one. But even after I had completed my order and tried to hand it back, she deliberately accepted the menus from locals who came after me, treating me as if I were invisible. I had to wait several more minutes before my order was finally received. The food itself was just okay—certainly not worth the poor experience. In fact, I suspect the pork was of lower quality, as it tasted quite gamey. Overall, the disrespect and unwelcoming service completely overshadowed the meal.

Zhong Cheng Hao is a popular spot known for its friendly staff and delicious oyster omelette. The cook impressively manages multiple portions at once, ensuring a tasty dish. While the stinky tofu was decent, it didn't quite meet expectations. Visitors also recommend trying the braised pork rice with well-flavored sauce that has a hint of sweetness.
Multiple repeat visits before this review. Probably the second best oyster omelette in Taipei (personal preference). It’s crispy n the starch is drier, which is the Taipei version as compared with the Tainan or Kaoshiung versions which are less crispy n the starch is more watery. The best oyster omelette is at the Ningxia Night Market (personal preference). Service was quite fast. More comfy eating in the aircon interior instead of eating outside the shop. The smelly tofu is not as smelly, which is again a personal preference. The pig stomach is quite nice, but the soup is a bit oily.
Ethan T — Google review
After a whole bunch of walking around Shilin, we wanted to sit down for a certified Taiwanese classic - the oyster omelet. This did not disappoint - it sounds like a real oddity, with egg, sweet nutty sauce, scallions, and of course the oysters themselves battling in your mouth. However, the goopy texture, familiar to me as the less grilled parts of a Japanese monjayaki, is kind of awesome, and the ingredients all end up supporting each other harmoniously. The stinky tofu, however, was the other side of the spectrum. I liked the flavour and aroma, but the texture was awful - too chewy on the outside and too hard on the inside, making it quite unpleasant to eat. Skip and get that omelet!
Nathan M — Google review
It was about 18:00 on a Saturday, the place was full and the waiting line long, so I decided to take out. Service was great and the food even better! Ingredients all made in-house (e.g. the hot and sweet sauce that accompanies the oyster omelet). Recommended!
Christiana C — Google review
The oysters here were cooked well, the sauce is slightly too sweet but what was exemplary was the ‘wok hey’, the breathe of the wok caramel taste that comes with the stir-fried dishes. Food here is definitely high 4 star.

Good smelly beancurd. No. 2 in taiwan. Love the way it stuff the sauce n garlic into the beancurd.
Kev O — Google review
I will not come to this restaurant again. Today, we ordered Fish floss and pork rice, Fried rice noodles, Stinky Tofu and Sautéed Squid Soup and Fried egg. Except fired egg, others dishes were bad. The food came very fast, we expected hot dishes, but the food was warm and cold. The fired rice noodles had many garlic, the garlic lovers should like it, but we don’t like it! Fired stinky tofu was not churchy and warm. It did not fired before serve. Sautéed Squid Soup was disgusting!! The customers who seat next to us also complained this dish!! Finally, the rice was warm and the fish floss was wet. As a common dish, they did bad. We have not visited this restaurant for a long time, but tonight dinner was terrible.

On my must eat list whenever I'm at Shilin Night Market. Loved their fried bee hoon.
Adeline — Google review
Food was OK, I expect to be more, watching people waiting outside, I thought the oyster omelet was going to be good but it wasn’t great…. Plus they gave me a dish first thing then I waited for an other 20 minutes later for my omelet!!! My first dish is cold by the time omelet comes… Not impress…. I complain about this and they shuffle me off. Over all the place was clean! The food wasn’t up to my expectations! The service was lousy, i’m guessing they don’t really care because it’s tourist place you come eat once you’re gone…. Too bad

Hai You Pork Ribs is a must-visit spot in the bustling Shilin Night Market, evident from the long queues. This renowned eatery is famous for its Michelin-recognized herbal-stewed ribs and flavorful herbal soups. The pork rice, with its miso-based flavor, offers a delightful twist compared to typical street food stalls. Despite potential language barriers, the friendly staff make the experience enjoyable.
I got this to go. They have a ton of ribs, and the fermented black bean sauce packet was really yummy. One of the better broths that I’ve tried. If you don’t like the medicinal taste you may not like it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My first dinner after arriving in Taiwan 3 days ago. Not sure if I was hungry but I found the soup was good. I ordered one pork rib soup, one meesua and one lurou rice. Guess what? It cost me only NT$170.
Sylvia O — Google review
Generally, there are many places that sell this soup and I have not try most of them. However, I believed its taste should be similar if not the same. The soup is lightly herbal and tastes sweet so it might not appeal to those who like a heavy dose of herbal taste in their soup. So to those who has sweet tooth do drop in and savour the soup. Enjoy
Heifoonlei — Google review
I’d give it three star not because it’s bad. The taste is good, the make is really basic. The ten herbs soup was tasty but the rib is all bones. Would have loved it maybe because I’m comparing it to how my grandparents would make it at home. For the chicken, I think it’s not as tender and flavourful but it fills me up. The noodle and vegetable is tasty but there’s lack of ingredient. However, if you’re not a local and you want to get a taste of Chinese local cuisine… this is not bad already.
Philip L — Google review
We stopped here because it was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The pork ribs themselves were tender. Broth was fairly plain, but still good! Service and atmosphere here were excellent! Things are efficient! Overall, a pleasant experience and solid choice in the Shilin Market!
Scott P — Google review
Nice, hot, flavorful, dark soup, I loved the chicken one, with 2 drumsticks tender and juicy. The owner is a good reclame for his soup, 70 years old and has more energy than me and my wife together. If you're around the Shilin night market, don't miss this warmly place and his soup.

Good flavor, the ladies from the staff were friendly. While leaving the male staff made a sexist joke, that maybe he assumed I wouldn’t understand and only my companion would. This might be considered local humor but both of us found it disrespectful and unnecessary.

Fried Chicken Master is a unique gem in the bustling food scene of Taiwan, standing out as a non-chain establishment that specializes in halal fried chicken. Nestled within the Nex mall in Serangoon, this cozy spot offers just eight dine-in seats, making it an ideal place for a quick takeaway. While you may encounter some wait times due to limited staff, the friendly service makes up for it.
It tastes way better than the ones in Indonesia. The chicken is so delicious and the taste reaches the inside of the chicken. It’s also worth the price since the chicken cut is pretty big.

The chicken was too oily to eat. KFC is far better option than this. The only plus point is that it is halal. The chicken was also not crispy. It was just too soft and we just couldn’t finish it. If they can make sure that it doesn’t get too oily, then it can be a better place to eat fried chicken.

Formosa Chang offers a decent dining experience with good service and tasty Taiwanese cuisine. While some find the prices a bit high for the quality of food, others appreciate the simplicity and freshness of the dishes. The restaurant is not very spacious or comfortable, but it's known for its quick service and delicious Taiwanese fare, including their popular sausage dish. It’s always such a clean and refined environment! The staff are incredibly considerate and amazing! You can truly experience the warmth and hospitality of Taiwanese people here! The access is excellent as well. The bus stop is right in front, and you can get to the airport without any transfers. I absolutely love this place! Thank you for always being so kind!

I’ll mention some positive points about the hostel: they offer a kind of sleeping pod that provides good privacy, and the internal space of the pod is quite spacious, allowing you to keep your belongings like some clothes or equipment. The bed is comfortable, and the room was at an ideal temperature. The bathroom is large, featuring six sinks for brushing teeth, four shower stalls (with good, hot water), and three toilet cubicles. The place was cleaned every day. They also have a spacious common area for socializing and cooking, though I rarely saw people there. Some points for improvement: the WiFi is not always consistent. I had to connect and disconnect many times! it would be helpful to include in the booking website instructions which floor to check in on, as when I arrived at the hostel’s entrance elevator, there was no sign indicating where to go. Another point I believe should be a courtesy is the availability of bath towels, which is currently a paid service. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and it ranks among the best hostels I’ve stayed at. The check in is at the 5th floor.

I had a great stay during my time in Taipei with the hostel. The toilets are clean and I love the layout of the capsule. Everyone is kind and super friendly. The location is perfect as it is close to Taipei main station. There are also amazing food near the hostel. Shoutout to the receptionist (apologies I didn’t catch your name), who recommended me to try the best donut in Taipei :)

This place is not bad. Although there’s no all male room, there’s only mixed and females only. Place is clean which I liked. It’d be nicer if the room was colder. The showers could Have had better shelf to hang your key card / phone/ your own toiletries there’s not much to hang. Toilet is mixed with ladies and men so be mindful when changing. That’s the only disappointment I have here
Jalatto — Google review
This hostel was a terrific stay in Taipei. It’s centrally located and very near public transportation. The facilities are terrific, and the rooms are very spacious. I would definitely return

"炸老大" is a popular chain of fried chicken restaurants with multiple vendors located across various Taiwan night markets. They are known for their incredibly crispy fried chicken and delicious chicken wings. The menu also includes thick fries, sweet and spicy chicken steaks, squid, dried tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and king oyster mushrooms. The restaurant uses a healthy deoiling machine to reduce greasiness in their dishes. Customers have praised the food for being both delicious and affordable.

HOT-STAR Fried Chicken is a must-visit foodie spot in Ximending, Taipei. It's one of the most popular and famous street foods in the area, known for its delicious and well-seasoned taste. The queue for this delectable treat can get quite long, but it's definitely worth the wait. Additionally, if you're looking for a quirky dining experience, you can visit Modern Toilet Restaurant nearby. This unique restaurant offers a novelty dining experience with surprisingly decent meals.
We decided to try their best-selling chicken, and it didn't disappoint, scoring a 9/10 for its delicious and well-seasoned taste. I appreciated the fact that they provided queue numbers for customers. Additionally, they gave us a discount coupon near their tea shop, although communicating with the girl there was a bit challenging. On a positive note, the mango milk they offered was quite delicious.

10 minute wait at 9:15pm on a Thursday night. The chicken was so juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was huge however managed to eat one all to myself!
Claudia P — Google review
The chicken was much larger than I thought and actually took the other half home. It was crispy on the outside and tender juicy inside. The cook definitely didn’t skimp on spice. It smelled and tasted really good. I was lucky that there was no line when I got there. Haha
Veda B — Google review
We loved the chicken. It was worth it for 100NTD. We recommend having it spicy since it has more flavor that way. The queue at night is also really long so be prepared to wait or come early.
Francis B — Google review
Although Hot Star is originally from Taiwan, I find the Hot Star in Manila better. First, the Hot Star in Taiwan are just stalls in street market, while the Hot Star in Manila is a restaurant with seats and with other food items. The Hot Star in Taiwan only offers chicken regular and spicy flavor. The Hot Star in Manila has other flavorings such as teriyaki, etc.
Leo V — Google review
There are two options: the classic and the hot. It's juicy, crunchy, and spicy. However, the flavour is unimpressive.

Although you can’t see the sauce in the photo, you will realize after eating it that it is actually enough. I can feel that many people mistakenly think that this is another store. The boss will remind you again that this is a store for people. The replies from other store owners who commented are also very interesting (because of this, I want to try it). It is a pity that I forgot to take the menu, otherwise I will... You can put the current menu up It is recommended that the store can add new photos of the store (meals, menus, store appearance, etc.), because the existing photos are actually not very attractive.
