Historic Walking Areas
Steep, landmark staircase dating back 400 years, lined with eateries, souvenir shops & ryokan inns.
Slide 1 of 8
A traditional hot spring street features a long staircase lined with restaurants and shops, all surrounded by beautiful scenery. I visited in December when it was peaceful and not crowded, making it a great place to explore.
we climbed 365 stone steps, view from top is so beautiful. if you are initial D fans is recommended to go there to find the initial d scene. plenty of onsen here, 2 days 1 night trip is enough to cover the whole place.
A place if you need a great workout ! 365 steps to hike up but was too quiet to continue on my own to see the Onsen. So just visited the shrine n wander around the shops n lanes… shops are quaint n there are the 12 Chinese horoscopes plates embedded along the footpath. I took a break soaking my feet in the public foot bath
This is a cute stairway lined with shops of all kinds and providing incredible views of the surrounding mountains. There are 365 stairs to climb up, and lots of small details to discover along the way. Try not to get too caught up in taking photos, and use the opportunity to set your eyes on a distant horizon. Breathe deep.
This quaint onsen town was extremely pleasant and enjoyable. There were plenty of souvenir stores, and snack stores selling sweets and pastries. Some cafes also serve lunch and they are all just along the stone steps leading up. You can take the JR express bus from Shinjuku, or a local bus from Maebashie.
An interesting village where these stone steps were originally built to promote the area during the Edo period. Now a popular hot spring destination, it’s filled with shops and restaurants offering various local specialties. The steps also provide a lovely view over the village.
Entire area is really small, it can be done in 15-20 minutes. The only initial D thing is the drain cover at the bottom of the stairs & a poster higher up the stairs. I would not think it’s worth a day trip here on public transport but if you’re staying at the onsens it’s a really nice excursion.
Cool place to visit. Easy on tourists. Please support the businesses and buy delicious snacks! So many restaurants and cafes around. Please try it
Ikaho Shrine

Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Tranquil 9th-century shrine reached by climbing 365 steps & said to improve your fortunes.
Slide 1 of 8
An interesting temple! You need to climb 365 stairs to reach the main temple. In the meantime, you can enjoy many shops along the way. Food, amusement, drink, onsen. The oden here is also really delicious. But the best food is definitely the soft cream!!!
Small local shrine at the top of the famous ‘365’ steps. Worth the visit if you’re in the area. There are many wonderful smaller details to look out for around the shrine and it has a good view of the town. It is also the start of a walk up the mountain.
The temple was rather OK, but what steal the show is the surrounding shops and village that has a lot of character and vibe. Some buildings are old and shut down, an old memory of the great economy times of the era. I felt nostalgic and trapped in time. It was great that I stopped over to see this place.
2023.04.07 A very small but nice shrine and even buying omori were self service.
Worth all the cold winds and the steps 👍🏼
Very serene small shrine at the top of the steps of Ikaho Onsen. It is worth a visit, there were nice sakura trees blooming when I was here. As it is not a peak time, there is minimal crowd, so it makes for a nice experience.
On top of the 365 steps really peaceful area in the morning shrine area was pretty
I went to Ikaho Shrine for the first time. It is in the place where I climbed the stone stairway. Scenery is splendid.

The red bridge is small. there were many people taking pictures. I enjoyed walking around ikaho. There are many hot springs here but also it’s a good hiking area.
This graceful Japanese-style bridge in Ikaho is quite beautiful, though smaller than Nikko’s Shinkyo Bridge. It has a classic, refined aesthetic that captures traditional Japanese architecture beautifully and makes for great photography.
I read the comments before coming and it really is a very small bridge. It looks crowded only because it’s such a small area. Very beautiful in autumn but maybe not worth coming just for this.
Stunning autumn folliage. We visited in early November evening after 5:30pm. Many people were enjoying the scenery during this time. The bridge is a 5-10mins stroll from the shrine on top of the Ikaho stone steps. Snacks and hot beverages are available near the bridge.
Ikaho's vermillion Kajika Bridge is a must-visit place in Autumn season in Gunma. This picturesque and stunning view is a perfect background for family portraits during autumn foliage. We went up here by car and there is a free parking space near the bridge. You need to be there before 10am because many cars lined up for this parking space. Some people chose to park on the municipal parking near Idaho stone steps starting point. But we’ve decided to go here first so it is not too crowded. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of people before 10am but we managed to take beautiful pictures. There is a restroom and a small coffee stall near the bridge. You can enjoy the colorful leaves up here. We went down taking the local road for cars and went directly to the starting point of Idaho stone steps. After reaching 365 steps, we walked back to Kajika bridge and went back to our car.
It was mid April when I came and so there is minimal crowd for this very popular bridge in autumn. One usually hike up from the stone steps to get here so recommend to also do the open air onsen if you come here post a hike! If you are only here for the IG post, the bridge is quite small so it won't be easy to picture when there is a crowd.
Having said to be one of the areas of inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" with Kajika Bridge being a reference point for the main red bridge depicted in the movie, you can clearly see why when visiting. Although not quite as picturesque as visiting in mid-Autumn, December/Jan is still an excellent time to visit Ikaho Onsen and Kajika Bridge. Well worth the trip up and also combining a visit to the local Onsen.
Photos spot, good time for Autumn 🍂

Awesome spiritual place. It also has a terrific manju shop that is run by a very friendly couple. There is also a great farmers market.
Turning wheels and ring the Bell is thing available at this 16th Kannon temple. Many believers came to pray and visiting. Large parking and many high quality udon shops near by.
This place is magical! Drove past the bend and saw stairs lighting up the temple. A super unexpected stop. Looks and feels like a video game, super zen
The principal image of Mizusawa Kannon (Mizusawa-dera) is the Kannon Bodhisattva who is believed to have saved Princess Ikaho, the third daughter of the local governor, from difficult situations many times. It has a history of over 1300 years, and it is said that offering incense will bring good luck in health, and ringing the bell will bring good fortune in terms of money😊😊
This place is freakin awesome! So many cool aspects of traditional Japanese culture here. And tons of beautiful nature, including a mountain hike behind the temples and shrine that go through a very serene forest. A word to the wise, though: If you are going to ride a bike up there, you can do it but it's definitely a challenge. About 6 km up often steep hills.
Beautiful ancient temple, come here, calm down and breathe the fresh air
To be honest, I can't really distinguish between a shrine and a temple, but it's a very eye-catching and beautiful architecture.
Beautiful old shrine, if you are lucky there is a very nice local markets on Saturdays

You can see sheep and dog show in this farm. Also you can feed goats, horses, sheep and other animals. Most visitors were families with children but adults can enjoy too. All animals seemed to be well taken care of but some of them looked hungry and irritated.
We found ourselves facing a shortage of manpower, which made things a bit challenging. Navigating the area was particularly tricky for us as foreigners.
This a great petting farm to visit with the kids on a nice day. It can get expensive though with the fee to pet each animal at multiple stations though. My kids enjoyed it, so I guess the cost is irrelevant. Oh avoid the Game Center area, because once the kids gravitate towards that well, they will just want to stay there. I just tried to redirect their attention the best I could lol
Entrance tickets is ¥1500 (adult). There's vege for the animals for sale in the farm at ¥400/cup. Rabbit and guinea pig petting at ¥700/10mins. Quite pricey, and there wasn't much animals. Mostly sheeps and rabbits. Animals are quite well-managed tho! Clean!
Good place for kids but the opening hours are too short while the events and shows schedule are not frequent. In-door grill of beef is also good lunch. Worth to buy the combo.
It is not a very cheap place to visit, but I suppose it would be a fun way to spend time together, particularly if you have children. Parking is free but in addition to the entrance fee, every single attraction costs extra money. So if you have the time to visit every attraction, it may be worth it to invest in the all access pass. The ice cream and the moumou is deliciousness that is a must-have at this park. Walking the goats around is also pretty fun.
Came here on a kindergarten field trip. It was cute and my sons enjoyed it, but everything inside costs extra money - even the petting areas
Very beautiful in fall season, we had a wonderful day, you can enjoy a barbecue offer also

Recommended and worth the stop. There’s more to the station than what’s seen from the road. Besides the fresh vegetables and local merchandise, visitors can also enjoy a centuries old walking tour of an old hotel neighborhood located near the station.
Clean with big bathrooms. The restaurant is reasonably priced and offers typical Japanese fare like soba and udon, konyaku, Motsu tonkatsi etc. Friend wasn't happy with the soba but the rest of our group was satisfied.
Nice place but crowded on a holiday weekend.
Rest stop and grocery store/gift shop for Gunma prefecture goods and produce. No English spoken but there is an indoor tourist information center nextdoor with many pamphlets about local sights and attractions.
Nice place. Great market. Good restaurant.
(Translated by Google) As you'd expect from Gunma, there's a wide variety of konjac! I saw something unusual called konjac karaage, so I bought some. It was konjac that had been heavily seasoned, coated in karaage flour, and then deep-fried. It was quite delicious! There was also a wide variety of local vegetables, and they were cheap (lol) (Original)
(Translated by Google) This was my first time visiting. They had a wide selection of vegetables and fruits for sale. I came here to buy souvenirs and a meal. It was the last day of a three-day weekend, so it was busy. I chose the sesame miso ramen, which looked like a quick meal. It looked like a regular ramen from a chain restaurant, so I didn't have high expectations, but after a few bites, the sesame flavor was very strong, the soup was piping hot, and there was a generous amount of noodles, making it a satisfying ramen. We were all laughing about this place because it seems so unlikely in an onsen town in Japan, but actually it’s a hidden gem. The architecture of the residence is elegant and beautiful. And the neighboring tiny museum is just right to explain this guy’ presence in ikaho. Turns out he’s a relative of Benjamin Franklin 😳 Some nice photos of Meiji Era Hawaii and Ikaho seal the deal.

If you are a fan of Yumeji, this should be a place you should visit at least once. 1600 yen gets you a pass to the main building featuring collections of Yumeji as well as a live music box demo and some artifacts he himself or people in the era used to use. Located in a very tranquil part of the town. It may be challenging if you don't know the language.

In the hall on the first floor of Kurofunekan, live performances of rare music boxes and pianos are held every hour, creating a dreamlike, extraordinary experience. The last time I visited, there was a stove on, and the scent of the stove perfectly matched the atmosphere inside, making it a very memorable and great experience, so I wanted to come back again. The paintings by Takehisa Yumeji and the Taisho Romantic atmosphere are both wonderful, so I definitely recommend you go. I'd like to visit in the summer someday to see Kurofune-ya. Beautiful architecture, great curation, and a wonderful outdoor sculpture park. You can easily enjoy this museum for a few hours, ducking in and out of indoor exhibits, while also enjoying the outdoor air.
Amazing environment, reasonable price. I was very glad to see some artworks that I used to see a lot in the former Hara Museum in Tokyo, including Yoshitomo Nara’s little room. The cafe was good too, with ice cream made from the milk of the next door farm.
Quite remote but make it a quiet and peaceful place to visit. Some outdoor exhibits for snapshots. A small cafe selling lovely dessert.
Stunning! They could have more exhibitions tho. Price is 1100, no reservation required. I went during Golden Week and it’s not crowded. However, they meed to have better postcards option.
Interesting museum on beautiful grounds. Be warned that the price (1100yen) is quite expensive for the amount of art you'll get to see, and indoor photos aren't allowed either. The art that's there is amazing - I was shocked to have the museum to myself while seeing a Warhol, Lichtenstein, and a Kusama room! But for having such a spacious building, there should really be a couple more exhibits at least.
Branch of the Hara Museum in Tokyo, both focusing on contemporary art. The buildings are unassuming and blend nicely into the stunning location with views of Mout Akagi. Be aware that you have to pay at the gate just to even enter the grounds and make sure to keep your ticket with you. The art tends towards the conceptual, so perhaps not to everybody's taste, but with four modestly sized galleries, it's easy to spend just an hour or so here on your way to somewhere else or during bad weather. Great photo opportunities on the grounds and the cafe is good too!
Interesting art museum in the Shibukawa area of Gunma.

Amusement park
Sights & Landmarks
Low-key amusement park with a Ferris wheel & rides for young children, plus go-karts & fireworks.
Slide 1 of 8
The park is outdated, but clean. The rides are old and snack bars closed, but who cares because the the kids are having too much fun with the attractions - it’s the adults who are passing judgment. They could use an update and build a new ride though…for real. The train wasn’t in operation, so that was a bummer. There’s a shallow pool for the kids to play in so don’t forget those swimsuits.
It was good time spent with my children and they get good memories. Tickets price little bit higher than other park. It was 7000¥ for 2 adults and 2 children 😁
Beautiful Amusement park with a great mountain view.
Preventive measures for corona virus are implemented. Body temperature check at the gate and contact details logged before entering the park. The staff were friendly and rubbing alcohol are available everywhere. The Go-kart and roller coaster were fun and can be enjoyed by adults. The Ferris wheel is also nice showing the views of the nearby cities. One complain only is the ice park. It’s too short 😂
Loved it on a quiet summer weekday. It was the opposite of a stereotypical Disneyland-type experience. No crowds, all rides available without waiting more than a minute or two. All rides tailored to young children - the sweet spot is probably 4-5, with the bizarre exception of a haunted house. Lots of nice simple rides, plus physical rides too. The large jumping castle and the inflatable slide were highlights, as were the go-carts and the collection of various bicycle contraptions. It has some quite strange attractions too. For example, the "ice adventure" is a cool-room with stuffed-animal displays, at -30 degrees Celsius. Fun and weird for the 20 seconds it takes to pass through. Without crowds, it was possible to take time and enjoy rides without the crazed throngs of children. The cafe is also pretty relaxed and there is no hard-sell for sugary sweets etc. Classic low-budget fun.
Great for toddlers. All rides are available but adults need to ride with them. Purchase 1 day pass - no need to pay per ride. There's a go-cart at the very back of the park, and it is highly recommended. Not crowded on Saturday when I went.

To the guide uncle If the thunder gets worse, the ropeway will stop, so go to the observation deck and come back early. It made me feel warm to hear something like that. You can reach the observation deck in 2 to 3 minutes. It's a very beautiful view, but as expected It started raining heavily and I quickly descended the mountain. lol. Great place to stay!! One of the best hotel in Ikaho area. I think this hotel is underrated as Japanese don’t seem to give 5 stars to anyone 😆
This place is rundown and not worth what we paid. There was black mold in the water tank of the toilet, slowly filling up. The buffet was just ok, the dining room aesthetically thrown together and felt cheap. The onsen was alright, small, with a collapsing fence next to the outdoor bath. Two shower heads would not turn off. One wonders how this hotel can continue hosting guests without more investment, or if it's worth saving. Are other Ooedo hotels of similar standard?
Our Japanese style room was great! Although it was a bit old but it was clean and tidy. Unfortunately the public bath was quite small and the outdoor bath was closed during our visit. The customer service was awesome. They tried their very best to communicate with us in English. The buffet breakfast and dinner were good! Lots of varieties and they all tasted great.
I dropped by this onsen after SUP on the Lake Shima. I was able to get warm, but I felt a little cozy and expensive.
Nice clean rooms. Staff was very kind.
Everything was delicious.
(Translated by Google) I stayed here because I wanted to visit Ikaho Onsen and because it's a newly renovated premium hotel at Oedo Onsen. The hotel staff were all friendly and the service was excellent. I arrived much earlier than planned, but they recommended the lounge because it was available. There are two types of baths, with men's and women's baths rotating depending on the time of day. There is no sauna or cold bath, only indoor and outdoor baths. Both hot springs were quite hot, which helped to relieve my daily fatigue. There is an alcohol bar in the lounge and after-bath area. The lounge has a server serving beer, highballs, and lemon sours, and a wide range of alcohol, including wine and shochu, all-you-can-drink. The after-bath area only has beer, highballs, and lemon sours, but you can eat as many popsicles as you like. In addition to alcohol, both hotels also had drink bar machines. For dinner, I had delicious pork, which I believe is a Gunma specialty. It was a buffet, and the selection included delicious pork sukiyaki, hot spring steamed basket dishes, and roast pork prepared right in front of you. There was also a wide selection of other dishes, including freshly fried tempura, sashimi, sushi, okkirikomi, Chinese food, and fried foods, so everyone from children to adults would be satisfied. The restaurant staff were all very friendly. The all-you-can-drink alcohol option included beer, highballs, shochu, wine, and mini bottles of sake. The local sake, Harunayama, was delicious and paired perfectly with the food. I arrived by train, but the bus stop was nearby, so it was easy to access on the way back. It was a great hotel for a relaxing stroll around the stone steps.

I’ve visited this park several times. My favourite season visiting here is definitely autumn. You can see many colorful trees. The photos of creepy plants are poisonous.
Good location for children & old age people Weekend trips 😀
A very clean place with fresh air and a perfect for a picnic with the family. Entrance fees reasonable and plenty of parking. Lots of butterflies and flowers to see.
At the moment (Nov 2020), there is nothing much to view other than just an Insect Museum (昆虫館). Not many maple trees also. Not worth the 1000 yen entry fee.
One of my favorite places on Mt Akagi.

I visited this museum in summer. I really enjoyed to see their glasses. There are glasses made by famous artists like Émile Gallé. Mostly Art Nouveau which is my favourite era of art. If you like glass art I strongly recommend you to visit this museum.
(Translated by Google) The main exhibits are Art Nouveau works by Gallé and the Daum brothers, as well as fine mantelpieces and furniture (made by Majorelle) from the early 20th century, as well as Art Deco and Meissen tableware. There seemed to be a variety of programs available that allow you to actually create things. (Unfortunately, I didn't have time to experience it) (Original)
(Translated by Google) I 👔 visited for the first time♪ Authentic Art Nouveau works are on display. Unlike the atmosphere of Emile Gallé and Meissen, where many works are placed all over the place, it feels like an ``alternative space'' where the works are just there, without any pretense, and unbeknownst to us, they are there. Am I the only one whose 《interest》 that my eyes are trying to follow keeps building forward? . Are you even aware that attractive EUROPE furniture with a design you've never seen before, that you want right now, is quietly and quietly sitting there? I feel like my dignity is being tested. It's a wonderful museum that quietly puts the brakes on the visitors' legs while hiding luxury👍. I am also fascinated by the many works that have been created over the years. Especially Emile Gallé's glass works. "Made the shape of a dream into glass" That's what I said. As I walked around the glass art, I couldn't help but admire the work, which created the atmosphere of circling around a lake. I became interested in learning more about this artist. It's easy to listen carefully and he speaks slowly, so I think it's easy to enjoy the satisfaction of being able to take a close look at the show, even though it's small in size. The attached shop (admission is free) has glass-related accessories that are hard to find in regular shops, making it a must-see for glass lovers. When I stop by Shibukawa for business, I go out of my way to visit this place. The photo shows earrings purchased at a shop. The glass is sprayed with gold leaf, making it very elegant and lovely. We also carry a wide variety of glass products such as necklaces, flower vases, and tableware. Many Art Nouveau works are on display, including works by Emile Gallé and the Daum brothers. There is also a large number of wooden furniture from that time and furniture influenced by Japonism. I think the curator explained the exhibits in the museum in detail. I think the content is easy to understand even for first-time visitors. The in-house shop was also of high quality.
