Ikaho Shrine is a serene 9th-century shrine located in the heart of the town, accessible by climbing 365 steps. These steps were constructed during the late 16th century to provide access to healing springs for injured soldiers. The shrine is situated on a hill above the city and is considered the guardian deity of Ikaho Onsen. With its long history dating back to the early Heian period, it holds significance as an influential shrine.
An interesting temple! You need to climb 365 stairs to reach the main temple. In the meantime, you can enjoy many shops along the way. Food, amusement, drink, onsen. The oden here is also really delicious. But the best food is definitely the soft cream!!!
Alvin S — Google review
Small local shrine at the top of the famous ‘365’ steps. Worth the visit if you’re in the area. There are many wonderful smaller details to look out for around the shrine and it has a good view of the town. It is also the start of a walk up the mountain.
Michele C — Google review
The temple was rather OK, but what steal the show is the surrounding shops and village that has a lot of character and vibe. Some buildings are old and shut down, an old memory of the great economy times of the era. I felt nostalgic and trapped in time. It was great that I stopped over to see this place.

Very serene small shrine at the top of the steps of Ikaho Onsen. It is worth a visit, there were nice sakura trees blooming when I was here. As it is not a peak time, there is minimal crowd, so it makes for a nice experience.

Nestled in the tranquil landscapes of Gunma Prefecture, Mizusawadera Temple, also known as Mizusawa Kannon, is a captivating Buddhist temple complex that invites visitors to explore its rich history and stunning architecture. Dating back to the Asuka period, this sacred site features a striking hexagonal two-storied pagoda and a bell tower alongside the main hall. The temple grounds are adorned with various subtemples and structures that reflect over 1300 years of cultural heritage.
Awesome spiritual place. It also has a terrific manju shop that is run by a very friendly couple. There is also a great farmers market.

Turning wheels and ring the Bell is thing available at this 16th Kannon temple. Many believers came to pray and visiting. Large parking and many high quality udon shops near by.

This place is magical! Drove past the bend and saw stairs lighting up the temple. A super unexpected stop. Looks and feels like a video game, super zen
TravellingAzeroth — Google review
The principal image of Mizusawa Kannon (Mizusawa-dera) is the Kannon Bodhisattva who is believed to have saved Princess Ikaho, the third daughter of the local governor, from difficult situations many times. It has a history of over 1300 years, and it is said that offering incense will bring good luck in health, and ringing the bell will bring good fortune in terms of money😊😊

This place is freakin awesome! So many cool aspects of traditional Japanese culture here. And tons of beautiful nature, including a mountain hike behind the temples and shrine that go through a very serene forest. A word to the wise, though: If you are going to ride a bike up there, you can do it but it's definitely a challenge. About 6 km up often steep hills.

Ikaho Onsen Stone Steps is a historic landmark featuring a 400-year-old staircase lined with eateries, souvenir shops, and ryokan inns. Visitors can indulge in the open-air bath filled with hot water from Ikaho-onsen's renowned spring, 'Ogon-no-yu'.
A traditional hot spring street features a long staircase lined with restaurants and shops, all surrounded by beautiful scenery. I visited in December when it was peaceful and not crowded, making it a great place to explore.

we climbed 365 stone steps, view from top is so beautiful. if you are initial D fans is recommended to go there to find the initial d scene. plenty of onsen here, 2 days 1 night trip is enough to cover the whole place.

A place if you need a great workout ! 365 steps to hike up but was too quiet to continue on my own to see the Onsen. So just visited the shrine n wander around the shops n lanes… shops are quaint n there are the 12 Chinese horoscopes plates embedded along the footpath. I took a break soaking my feet in the public foot bath

This is a cute stairway lined with shops of all kinds and providing incredible views of the surrounding mountains. There are 365 stairs to climb up, and lots of small details to discover along the way. Try not to get too caught up in taking photos, and use the opportunity to set your eyes on a distant horizon. Breathe deep.
Veronica G — Google review
This quaint onsen town was extremely pleasant and enjoyable. There were plenty of souvenir stores, and snack stores selling sweets and pastries. Some cafes also serve lunch and they are all just along the stone steps leading up. You can take the JR express bus from Shinjuku, or a local bus from Maebashie.
Michelle Y — Google review
Can become cold after 4:30pm as the sun sets earlier from Autumn. Well maintained with a beautiful view at the top. Shops here close early in Autumn. Roads are narrow you prefer driving nearby/in town.

Cool place to visit. Easy on tourists. Please support the businesses and buy delicious snacks! So many restaurants and cafes around. Please try it
Gianina B — Google review
This has to be one of the best walks I have done in Japan. It is quite the arduous journey up the roughly 250 steps. However the fall foliage views mixed with the nighttime lights of a shopping district are simply spectacular. And best of all you can enjoy it and even an outdoor footbath along the way all for free, discounting transportation costs of roughly ¥1000 round trip from Shibukawa JR station.

Ikaho Green Bokujo is a charming petting farm where visitors can interact with various animals, including sheep and dogs. It's a popular spot for families with kids, offering the opportunity to feed goats, horses, and other animals. While some visitors found the cost of activities to be a bit high, many enjoyed their time at the farm. The beautiful fall scenery adds to the experience, making it an ideal destination for a day trip. Additionally, there are opportunities for barbecue offers on-site.
You can see sheep and dog show in this farm. Also you can feed goats, horses, sheep and other animals. Most visitors were families with children but adults can enjoy too. All animals seemed to be well taken care of but some of them looked hungry and irritated.
M — Google review
We found ourselves facing a shortage of manpower, which made things a bit challenging. Navigating the area was particularly tricky for us as foreigners.
Ferdinand B — Google review
This a great petting farm to visit with the kids on a nice day. It can get expensive though with the fee to pet each animal at multiple stations though. My kids enjoyed it, so I guess the cost is irrelevant. Oh avoid the Game Center area, because once the kids gravitate towards that well, they will just want to stay there. I just tried to redirect their attention the best I could lol
Aaron E — Google review
Entrance tickets is ¥1500 (adult). There's vege for the animals for sale in the farm at ¥400/cup. Rabbit and guinea pig petting at ¥700/10mins. Quite pricey, and there wasn't much animals. Mostly sheeps and rabbits. Animals are quite well-managed tho! Clean!
DORRIS A — Google review
Good place for kids but the opening hours are too short while the events and shows schedule are not frequent. In-door grill of beef is also good lunch. Worth to buy the combo.
Tsz C — Google review
It is not a very cheap place to visit, but I suppose it would be a fun way to spend time together, particularly if you have children. Parking is free but in addition to the entrance fee, every single attraction costs extra money. So if you have the time to visit every attraction, it may be worth it to invest in the all access pass. The ice cream and the moumou is deliciousness that is a must-have at this park. Walking the goats around is also pretty fun.
Jo Y — Google review
Came here on a kindergarten field trip. It was cute and my sons enjoyed it, but everything inside costs extra money - even the petting areas

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Nagai Shokudo is a popular roadside diner in Gumma, Japan, known for serving simple Japanese soups, noodle bowls, and rice dishes. The parking lot can get chaotic due to its popularity, but the service is incredibly fast, ensuring that customers are swiftly served. While Motsuni might not be everyone's favorite dish here, it's still quite tasty. This cozy spot offers affordable meals for those looking for a quick bite.
Probably the best Motsu in Gumma, so get there early because it's always busy. Have no time? get the packaged Motsu for 1000 yen a bag. 1 bag is enough for 2-3 people.
Lawrence C — Google review
Parking lot is crazy and the place is crowded because it's so popular, but the service is lightning fast so people are in and out at a super quick rate. I don't really like motsuni that much but it's pretty good. Nice little spot for a cheap bite to eat.

(Translated by Google) When you think of "motsuni," you think of Nagai Shokudo. There's always a line. I recommend going between 11:00 and 12:00! Even if you don't have to wait in line, the turnover is fast, so you can eat without waiting too long! I ordered the large motsuni set meal. The offal was large, fluffy, and delicious⭐️ The rich broth was amazing😃 I added shichimi pepper halfway through to change the flavor! It was reasonably priced and delicious! It was a real treat! Next time I'd like to try the ramen🍜. Next door, they sell "motsuko" (chicken roe) for 1,000 yen, and it makes a great souvenir! (Translated by Google) [October 21, 2025] I arrived just after 12:00 on a weekday. Despite it being a weekday, the parking lot was full. As expected, this restaurant is popular. Thanks to the guide, I was able to park without having to wait. After that, I went to the end of the waiting line. There were about 20 people there. However, the turnover was good and I was able to get in within about 15 minutes. (As soon as a seat became available, they asked for the number of people and our order, but this short-haired lady's service was amazing!) My order arrived shortly after I sat down. The regular portion of rice is available in a large size. The ingredients for the motsuni were simply motsuni and konjac. It came with chopped green onions, two slices of pickled radish, and miso soup with wakame seaweed and tofu. The motsuni was stewed until tender and had no unpleasant odor. The miso was seasoned just right, and when poured over rice, it made delicious motsuni rice! All of this for just 770 yen is amazing. Please note that it seems to be a rule that the trays provided must be used vertically. It is admirable that the company has made such an effort to keep prices the same despite repeated increases in the consumption tax rate. (There were signs in various places asking if you would like less rice, no miso soup, no pickled radish, or no chopped green onions.)

Specialty Museums
The Ikaho Toy, Doll and Car Museum is a nostalgic journey through Japan's Showa period, featuring a diverse collection of toys, dolls, and classic cars from the mid to late 20th century. The museum offers an immersive experience with exhibits ranging from teddy bears and traditional dolls to retro console games and vintage Japanese automobiles. Visitors can stroll through the Showa Retro Park Dagashiya Yokocho, a reproduction of streets from 50-60 years ago.
This museum might be a special kind of dante’s circle of hell. As I walked through the museum I saw many exit signs but I did not exit at all. Just when you think you are done, you have entered another museum. When you exit the gift shop you have entered another museum. At the end you will find out how babies are made. A truly unique experience. This museum is definitely worth your money.
Anders S — Google review
I initially expected just a simple toy display, but this museum completely exceeded expectations with its detailed, professional curation. The collection spans multiple floors with incredible variety - toys from Japan’s cathode ray tube era when Astro Boy aired through the pre-smartphone period, complete with recreated game arcades, magazines, and snack areas that authentically capture different time periods. The second floor houses an impressive automotive collection featuring famous Japanese cars from the industry’s beginnings, racing cars, and even vehicles from Initial D, while the first floor includes British Mini models. Beyond the main exhibits, there’s an outdoor park with American movie-style posters, detailed military dioramas that war enthusiasts would love, and a European-style indoor cafe. This museum is far more diverse and engaging than it appears from outside - definitely a must-visit if you’re in Ikaho.
Minwoo K — Google review
My son adored the car collection. If you’re Japanese, you’ll love the nostalgic games. It is bigger than it looks. You have stuff toy from all over the world. You see all the meiji and showa era entertainment toys and arcades. The shop also has good things in it. It’s also interactive at some points. It’s stairs and walking so bring your baby carrier. Someone scratched our car and ran away. The staff was so helpful and ensured that we were attended to.
Pauline M — Google review
This museum offers a wide variety of exhibits, including teddy bears, tin toys, and japanese retro items from the Showa era. You can even play traditional games like 射的 and スマートボール, and we really enjoyed painting キューピーちゃん. The collection also features a wide range of nostalgic cars, including rare classic models, and I ended up spending more time than expected, enjoying every moment until the end.
KOKO O — Google review
Lots of cool and interesting things to see… However, what originally brought me here were road signs advertising a “Chocolate Factory.” It turned out to be a tiny shop in a corner of the museum selling M&Ms and other pre-packaged candy. No chocolate is made here. Like I said, it ended up being a fun experience, but I can’t overlook the false advertising.
Brandon G — Google review
This place is really funny. The museum itself has a lot of stuff from dolls to teddy bears to Japanese WWE items and amazing cars. The items have no sense and you get a tiny little doll that you can paint yourself at the end of the visit. I have been there more than once and it's always a good time.
Koly8 — Google review
**American Family Visiting** Stopped here as part of my Initial D pilgrimage and did not disappoint. This museum has a very large collection of teddy bears, Japanese toys, mini cars and of course the Fujiwara Tofu shop facade with replica Trueno. Lots to see and do. Free parking onsite as well as bathrooms and a cafe. A must see for any Initial D fan.
Matthew S — Google review
Went here to see the Initial D setup. But was able to enjoy the whole place as it will take you on different time periods of japan. There was also a collection of different cars, teddy bears and a whole lot more relating to toys and cars. Overall, its worth trying to visit. Especially if youll be driving in Japan.

Shibukawa Skyland Park is a low-key amusement park nestled in Shibukawa City, offering a delightful escape for families. With a backdrop of picturesque mountain views, the park boasts an array of rides suitable for all ages. Visitors can enjoy attractions such as go-karts, a Ferris wheel, and fireworks displays. The park provides a serene alternative to bustling theme parks, with minimal crowds even on summer weekdays.
The park is outdated, but clean. The rides are old and snack bars closed, but who cares because the the kids are having too much fun with the attractions - it’s the adults who are passing judgment. They could use an update and build a new ride though…for real. The train wasn’t in operation, so that was a bummer. There’s a shallow pool for the kids to play in so don’t forget those swimsuits.

It was good time spent with my children and they get good memories. Tickets price little bit higher than other park. It was 7000¥ for 2 adults and 2 children 😁

Preventive measures for corona virus are implemented. Body temperature check at the gate and contact details logged before entering the park. The staff were friendly and rubbing alcohol are available everywhere. The Go-kart and roller coaster were fun and can be enjoyed by adults. The Ferris wheel is also nice showing the views of the nearby cities. One complain only is the ice park. It’s too short 😂
Sun S — Google review
Loved it on a quiet summer weekday. It was the opposite of a stereotypical Disneyland-type experience. No crowds, all rides available without waiting more than a minute or two. All rides tailored to young children - the sweet spot is probably 4-5, with the bizarre exception of a haunted house. Lots of nice simple rides, plus physical rides too. The large jumping castle and the inflatable slide were highlights, as were the go-carts and the collection of various bicycle contraptions. It has some quite strange attractions too. For example, the "ice adventure" is a cool-room with stuffed-animal displays, at -30 degrees Celsius. Fun and weird for the 20 seconds it takes to pass through. Without crowds, it was possible to take time and enjoy rides without the crazed throngs of children. The cafe is also pretty relaxed and there is no hard-sell for sugary sweets etc. Classic low-budget fun.
Casey W — Google review
Great for toddlers. All rides are available but adults need to ride with them. Purchase 1 day pass - no need to pay per ride. There's a go-cart at the very back of the park, and it is highly recommended. Not crowded on Saturday when I went.

Ikaho Ropeway is a unique experience, especially during the rainy season. The ropeway also provides access to Ikaho Shrine and its famous stone steps, where travelers can take a leisurely walk and even find interesting surprises like a manhole with the letter 'D' on it.
I really recommend if you go to Ikaho, it’s a really nice experience.

(Translated by Google) I visited before evening on a weekday. Rain, or rather thunder and torrential downpour. When I started coming, when I went up on the ropeway. To the guide uncle If the thunder gets worse, the ropeway will stop, so go to the observation deck and come back early. It made me feel warm to hear something like that. You can reach the observation deck in 2 to 3 minutes. It's a very beautiful view, but as expected It started raining heavily and I quickly descended the mountain. lol. The ropeway was very empty, I met a kind uncle On the contrary, I was lucky(^^) (Original)

Nestled near the summit of a mountain, Tokimeki Deck is an observation point that promises breathtaking panoramic views of Ikaho Onsen and its surrounding landscapes. Accessible via a scenic 4-minute ride on the Ikaho Ropeway, visitors can enjoy a short stroll through Yamanoue Park before reaching this stunning vantage point.
Picturesque observation deck and look-our point with multiple areas and levels for great views over the surrounding mountains and landscape of Gunma prefecture. On a clear day you can even see the range dividing Gunma and Niigata prefectures. The Bell was a fun, interesting and entertaining addition to the top deck too!

Great view and easy to come. Take a 30-minute walk or by a cable car.

(Translated by Google) It's about a 5-minute walk from Miharashi Station at the top of the Ikaho Ropeway. The observation deck overlooks Ikaho Onsen town, and on a clear day you can see Mount Akagi, the Nikko Mountains, Mount Hotaka, the Tanigawa Mountain Range, and the mountains in the Naeba area. Mount Haruna can be seen up close in the background. There is a small observation deck right next to Miharashi Station, but we highly recommend the Tokimeki Deck, which is only about a 5-minute walk away and offers a wider view. As you get off the ropeway at Miharashi Station and start walking towards the observation deck, you'll see a sign that says "Bear sightings reported 🐻." This is a bit concerning, but since most people who get off the ropeway are walking towards the observation deck, it probably isn't much of a concern.

Park
Ikaho Forest Park is a nature lover's paradise located near Ikaho Onsen. A ropeway takes visitors to the summit, offering different landscapes each season, from spring azaleas to summer greenery. The park features forest trails for hiking and birdwatching, with various flowers blooming from May to October. Visitors can also explore well-maintained stairs and handrails leading to a viewing platform with stunning views of the surrounding area.
(Translated by Google) the best It's called a park, but there's no play equipment 😂 It's almost a mountain 🎵 The mountain trail is well maintained and easy to walk. I went with my large senior dog and tried to climb two mountains, but unfortunately the path was narrow and the slope was steep so I had to back out😅 But I was able to take a walk and admire the spectacular view from the observation deck 😉 It's okay for young dogs ✨ Good exercise for humans too😁 The best place to play with nature with your dog That's a bit of an inconvenience, though. For me, just the toilet and vending machine are enough 😂 (Original)

(Translated by Google) I was scared of the people birdwatching. I never want to go there again. I visited this park while hiking. There was no trash and it left an impression of a "divinely beautiful forest." When I looked up at the wild birds flying around, I was scolded, "That's a bird path, please leave," and "You caused the wild birds to escape." I'm an amateur, so I don't know what a bird path is. I was just standing there quietly looking up, but I'm sorry for disturbing the birdwatchers. But this is not a forest exclusively for birdwatching. I was very uncomfortable about having to follow the rules of birdwatchers. If it's a rule set by Ikaho Forest Park, I wish they'd put up a sign saying "Don't stop here" or something to warn people clearly. It was well-maintained and a very nice place, but I was nervous when I passed people with cameras, so I didn't really enjoy the forest. It felt like they were claiming territory and I felt uncomfortable throughout the experience. To the elderly person who yelled at me: Please rest assured it won't happen again. I'm sorry.
