The drive up to Point Park / Lookout Mountain is a gorgeous little winding road lined with beautiful homes and an extensive view.
Once you get to the top, the roads are a little tight, and I can see that parking may sometimes be a bit of an issue. However, we went midday on a Friday in April, which seems like it wasn't a super busy time.
I am not a huge war history buff, but even so, this is still a nice and interesting place to visit.
Of course, the first thing that draws you in is the large fort/castle like entrance. . . then once you get inside the view immediately draws you in. Expansive view of the river and Chattanooga below, and the ridgeline where the battles took place.
Following a paved sidewalk, you'll notice a large monument on a hill. If you keep following the sidewalk, it brings you to stone steps that lead down to a little museum with another view point. I don't believe this area or section is wheelchair accessible, so just be aware. However, there are other places to take in the views.

This is an amazing historical stop and should be made by history buffs and sight seekers alike. The views are spectacular. $10 to get in and worth it. National historical park. The museum is small but informative. There are miles of trails but they are pretty steep. The main n park is a half mile trail that is accessible and an easy walk.

This place was incredible, almost magical! It feels like you are walking in a park at the edge of the world. Was clean, uncrowded and very reasonably priced as it is run by the national park service. There is even a museum across the street you can visit as well! The trail loops down to a museum within the park and comes back up. Our entire family really enjoyed the views, which were some of the best we have experienced, comparable to Rock City!
Overall it was probably one of the favorite places were visited on our trip and will definitely visit again if we return!

Lovely park and beautiful view. I'm personally terrified of heights, so I only made it as far out as the cannons, but even the view from as far back as there is stunning. The park ranger there was incredibly kind and informative. There are trails that lead down for different vantage points, which my husband did take. However, word to the wise, if you're not used to the elevation, take your time walking back, as it's a tad harder to catch your breath!

This is a nice park with a lot of history on the marker around the area. The only thing was that it had been made into a card only location. For people who like to deal in cash and do not use card this could be a problem but there was no one there to ask or pay. Enjoy looking around and the wonderful view of the valley. Interesting piece of engineering. We walked up, purchased tickets and stepped right onto the train from the low station on a Friday morning. Ended up on the front row as the last two passengers. Steep track and amazing how it works (make sure you check out the mechanical room at the top platform). The view is definitely good from up there. We walked down to the park at the end of the street but it was closed due to the federal government shutdown. The houses are very cool along that street- some new and some old architecture. Worth a walk. The only reason it is not five star is that there is not much else at the top or bottom. I did grab a coffee at the independent shop at the bottom in St Elmo- try to support local independent shops. Plenty of paid parking at the bottom station.

Had so much fun going up to Lookout Mountain. We decided to take the incline railway and the views were remarkable. This train is handicap, friendly and kid friendly so don’t be afraid to put the stroller on the train. The ride up was about five minutes. We went closer toward the end of the day so we didn’t get to spend much time up in the observation area. So make sure if you’re wanting to spend more time up in the observation area to go earlier in the day, the last train goes down at 5:30pm

This place was great. They had a lot of things to purchase like presidential cards, food, drinks, books, etc. etc. etc. There were so many little things being sold here that were cool that it was hard to choose just a couple things to purchase. The person checking us out was super helpful, friendly, and inviting. They also have a lot of history information in this little area and it made our time here even more worthwhile. I don't know how on earth this doesn't have a 5⭐ total review score! I live here in Chattanooga and come up to point park a couple times a year. It's usually quite, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful scenery 360° around here! There's a few small cool shops, a few nice joints to grab a bite, and literally 5 minutes away you can hop on the incline and ride the railroad down the side of lookout mountain to a bunch of places to eat in St Elmo. It's worth the walk and fee unless you're fat and or lazy, then you may just want to go to one of the many places to get a bite to eat!😉😂
May I suggest Mr T's pizza at the foot of the mountain and close by is a really cool but kinda small clock and timepiece shop. It has grandfather clocks, coocoo clocks and many more. They also used to let you watch repairs being done, super neat to watch or at least I thought so!? Just go, put on your walking shoes, and have a great but layed back time!

While I'd say it's not a destination spot you might is well stop in and check out since you're alreayd up there to check out the view. It's got a decent amount of historical information regarding the Civil War and Chattanooga's history in it. More than anything it's a gift shop - which we did pick up a couple of items. I used Craven House parking area to hike to Sunset Rock. About a 3 mile in-and-out hike through the woods with many lovely vistas.
The rock formations scattered throughout the woods are amazing.
On a clear day, the views of Chattanooga from Craven‘s House are magnificent. It’s a lovely spot to relax and soak in the beauty of the area.

This is a hidden gem of the Chattanooga area. Great for a quiet picnic or an easy afternoon stroll. For the more adventurous hiker there are also trails that connect to more technical trails on the side of lookout. Very beautiful home with lots of history. Wish you could go inside, but you can only walk around the porch and property. There are several monuments around as well as a foot trail for hiking that leads up to the Och’s museum/Roper’s Rock area. The drive up is a little sketchy with very steep, narrow roads that are not in the best condition. But I made it up and down without issues in a 2WD small SUV.

Small roads and parking lot access so be careful driving that you watch for cars & pedestrians. The monuments are impressive and there is a lot of informational signage about the battles that took place on the mountain. There are a lot of trails in the area to hike and the views are excellent. I gave it three stars because it is pretty small and there are no restrooms, I could see parking fill up fast and roads be hard to navigate during peak times.

I stopped by when I had an hour to spare and it was so beautiful and peaceful! There are hidden pathways all over the place but it was mid-July so the greenery covered up a lot of them (idk how many or where they all were… that’s just my assumption based on the few I did see).
It was after hours so there weren’t any tours going on but the gate was open so I assumed it was okay to walk around. I didn’t wander off too far just in case I wasn’t supposed to be there though.
Lots to explore, and it was sooo hot and it started getting late, so I didn’t have enough time to see as much as I wanted to but it was definitely worth the short drive up the mountain to see. (I didn’t want to get lost up there after dark so I left before sunset lol … I’ve heard it’s haunted… 😱)

This is one of our favorite state park campgrounds we’ve been to in Tennessee so far! It had a lot of features that surprised me like ADA campsites and how many sites could actually see water if not waterfront. I can see why loop A is deemed the most popular of the four loops because the sites are paved and fairly level, and the bathhouse has individual toilets and shower combos. Loop B has mostly gravel sites and some paved sites. Loop C has all gravel sites. Loop D is primitive for tent campers. All loops have a bathhouse that’s relatively central to majority of the sites. I thought the sites loops B and C were a bit on top of each other, so I’m glad we were in loop A. All sites had a picnic table and fire pit ring. Even though no swimming area is designated on the park map, lots of people could find easy places to just wait into the water, like at the end of the road where there are picnic areas. You can bring your kayaks / canoes or they may have some available for rent. There were only two dump stations that I saw: one at the entrance to the campground and one in Loop A by the bathhouse.

This is a beautiful and historic place. This visitor center is run by the national Park service. It is a very small but informative center. The park ranger working that day was very nice. He encouraged visitors to go into the back room which holds a giant 13 x 30 foot painting from I believe 1864 depicting one of the battles that took place in the area. They also had several souvenir items that were very nice including calendars and national park passports as well as the usual shirts and coffee mugs. There is a donation box where you can leave a donation if you feel. Point Park is definitely worth a visit (just for the views) and you should stop in and see the painting as it is free and just steps away from the entrance to the park. Also a sidenote about parking - there are a few free parking spots available just behind the visitor center and other gift shop. The street parking along the road in front of the entrance to the park itself is paid. We did not notice the free parking until we came out of the park. Definitely could’ve saved us about $14 for 2 hours of parking.

We loved our stay at Wauhatchie Woodlands. We stayed in the Elise Cabin and it was perfect for our family of 5. The kids loved the bunk beds and our son loved having his own space in the loft. The cabin was beautiful and very clean. Coffee on the back deck every morning & the hot tub was so peaceful. We had one minor issue with a door being off its hinge and someone came out right away to fix it. The goats & pigs were a fun surprise for the kids! We also loved the pickle ball courts and playgrounds. Such a nice spot to bring a family!

This cabin was magical. It’s nestled in the side of a mountain in the woods. Very clean, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. Has everything you need and is close to everything.
