Historical landmark
Vegueta, a historic district in Gran Canaria, is home to a museum that showcases a permanent collection dedicated to the island's aboriginal population, the Canarii. The museum's extensive collection includes various materials from Gran Canaria and other Canary Islands, such as ceramic containers, terracotta figurines like the Idol of Tara, and over 200 pintaderas.
Historic old town. Stunning cathedral. Friendly people. Nice little coffee shops nearby. Decent number of car parks within 10 mins walk of centre.
Clare M — Google review
Vegueta is a beautiful and atmospheric part of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. As the island’s historic district, it offers a glimpse into the past with its charming narrow streets, traditional Canarian architecture, and peaceful ambiance. The main square is lovely and inviting, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a coffee at one of the nearby cafés. The impressive Cathedral dominates the area with its stunning façade and peaceful interior. Wandering through the small cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time, every corner has its own story. If you're visiting Gran Canaria, Vegueta is definitely worth a visit!
Robean W — Google review
Very beautiful place with lovely spanish buildings. Very suitable for tourists. Around the area there is a cathedral, many cafes, and an avinida (shopping road). Definitely recommend to go to Christopher colombus house located at calle colon. Has very beautiful history, maps, ship models and the house itself is wonderful.
Saeed M — Google review
My favourite part of Las Palmas is this: the Old Town. I love it. The architecture, the streets, the greenery, the restaurants & the shops are amazing 🤩 I could now get enough of it and after multiple visits, you can still find hidden gems and be surprised at every corner.
Cornelia C — Google review
Very pretty and made for nice walking in the evening. The architecture was stunning and building very old and grand. There was an abundance of food and drink/retail and quite heavy footfall. Reccomend a visit.
Harvey M — Google review
Vegueta is the oldest part of the city, founded in 1478. The district is characterised by its well-preserved colonial architecture, with buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Many buildings feature vibrant colours and traditional Canarian wooden balconiesIt is also home to several important landmarks, including the Catedral de Santa Ana, Casa de Colón, and Plaza del Pilar Nuevo.

Casa de Colón, located in Las Palmas, is a former governor's house that has been transformed into a museum dedicated to the voyages of Christopher Columbus and ship life. The building itself is an architectural gem, featuring ornate decorations, latticework balconies, spacious courtyards, and intricately carved wooden ceilings that showcase the island's architecture. It is believed that Columbus resided here in 1492 while one of his ships was being repaired.
Very beautiful experience. Place is well organised and almost no wait. There is a shop at the exit. You can spend around 1 hour and enjoy. There is free bathrooms. Your free to wonder around. Lots of maps and restaurants from the 1500-1600. Lots of artillery weapons. Few model ships. Multiple paintings by Spanish artists although not a big fan. Definitely a wonderful place to pass by for tourists if your into history.
Saeed M — Google review
Casa de Colon is a small, nice museum in Las Palmas, in the old town called Vegueta. The building is very pretty, with patios, wooden balconies, and parrots. The museum has displays about the travels of Christopher Columbus. You can see models of his ships, old maps, and history from the Canary Islands and America. It costs about €4 to enter, and it’s free for kids. You only need about 1 hour to visit. It’s a good place to go if you’re walking around the city and want to learn a little bit of history in a beautiful setting.
Ramona C — Google review
Nice museum, it is the house of Columbus, nice exhibitions, definetely worth the price. If you are into history is a must-see, if not, you can spend 25-30 minutes wondering. Enjoy!
Dan R — Google review
Meh the upper floor and basement are both CLOSED (they do have a sign at entrance). Almost nothing original (all nice fascimiles of originals held at other museums). The few original items are some unremarkable paintings by unknown authors. Almost no languages on any of the displays other than Spanish. The good things is entry is only 4Euro, but even at that price not really worth it and wait until the whole museum is available. For me, not able to read Spanish and with 2/3 floors closed, this was a 10 minute visit. I recommend admiring the exterior for free and wander through this beautiful section of old town instead.
Jason Z — Google review
I enjoyed my wander around especially the beautiful inner courtyards and understanding better the connection of GC to Columbus. Some placards are translated into English but many others are not. The crypt was closed. I’m not sure it’s worth 4 euros. I was in there maybe 20 minutes? Lots of facsimiles of the letters Columbus wrote as well as many maps. Some paintings of limited quality.
Jennifer S — Google review
Very interesting building. One of the ‘must-see’ museums if you are interested in historical monuments. The ground floor is dedicated to history, maps, and illustrations of the Colon’s trips. The upper floor is mostly a gallery exhibition, which has nothing to do with Sir Colon, but worth looking at. Some of the paintings are quite breathtaking.
Abdeljabbar J — Google review
Relatively small museum but very impressive. Worth having a wander around. Tickets are € 4,- per person.

Outdoor Activities
Las Canteras Beach is a stunning urban beach in Gran Canaria, boasting 3 kilometers of golden sand and a lively esplanade filled with top-notch restaurants and bars. One of its most distinctive features is La Barra, a natural volcanic rock formation that runs parallel to the coast, protecting the majority of the beach from tides and fostering marine life. The area is perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts interested in exploring the seabed and its diverse species.
I fell in love with this beach and the entire long promenade. Early in the morning, when there are no people yet, and in the afternoon, when everything is full of life. The cafes invite you to sit down and enjoy. And the ocean is just worth looking at...
Lina G — Google review
Beautiful beach with golden sand, calm clear water, and a lively promenade full of cafes and shops. Perfect spot to swim, relax, or watch the sunset. Loved it!
Hicham A — Google review
Super nice beach. Quiet places. Many sport activities. Toilets and showers. Directly on boulevard, terraces, etc. In the evening nice atmosphere. Clean boulevard (dogs, step, bicycle not allowed)
Rob — Google review
The beach has nice lovely sand. The sun bed is 3 euros for all day. Umbrella is also 3 euros ( visited in Sept 2025). The beach has toilets, stairs that take you to the toilets and indoor showers. It also has outdoor showers. Both were clean. The shore is not abrupt and there are no stones. However, there were some algae. All in all worth the price and the visit, but there is no bar on the actual beach. Only bars, cafes, restaurants above the beach overlooking the ocean. The water is not transparent like in Greece. All in all nice ocean view, but not amazing.
Catalina — Google review
This was the most beautiful beach we saw here, with a long promenade and a sandy beach. It was clean, with showers and a stunning view. The beach was full of life even around 7–8 p.m. There were big waves, which looked amazing. The promenade was lined with restaurants.
Eszter K — Google review
Beach and sea are clean and beautiful. Two sunbeds with umbrella cost about €9, but prices for Swiss visitors often jump by 50%. Unfortunately, little is invested in the facilities – compared to the Bagni on the Adriatic, clearly weaker.
Y L — Google review
Great beach and chilling is the best place at Pepes longchairs!! Very prompt to help and his stuff is in great condition. Hut number 7 (lucky 7)
Gigi — Google review
Maybe one of the most iconic beaches on Gran Canaria! But definitely worth visiting! A few km long but very clean, sand is perfect, plenty of space to place your own beach towel, or you can rent a sunbed and umbrella! Amazing promenade, you could walk for hours and discover all amazing restaurants along the beach! Amazing views of the Ocean as well!

Museo Canario, located in the old town of Vegueta, Gran Canaria, is a museum founded in the early 19th century. It offers a fascinating collection of prehistoric artifacts from the entire Canary archipelago. Visitors can explore exhibition rooms showcasing mummies and skeletons, as well as relics of the original inhabitants of the island. The museum provides an insightful journey into the prehistory and indigenous culture of Gran Canaria.
Great little museum that packs a world of anthropology history of the island. Beware this is not an art musem!
Rene M — Google review
A private museum. Very well kept. Staff friendly and informative. 1 star lost as this museum is not wheelchair accessible and their building is not well connected by safe pedestrian access from the main tourist area of Santa Ana a short walk away. No drinking fountains. Pay to enter. Discounts for children and incapacitated persons. Augmented reality displays are interesting although we only observed these from a TV promo in the lobby as we didn't use the smartphone to view these during visit. Air conditioned building which is a bonus on very hot days.
Hello H — Google review
Very interesting museum in the center of the city. Gives you a better insight into the history of the local people's heritage and culture.
Paul S — Google review
Do not miss this nice museum. You can learn a lot about the life of the first inhabitants of the island. The skulls chamber it is fascinating (virtually unchanged since the 19th century), paying respects in the after life to the indigenous population. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it is lacking english translations, so I used a translation app to read the panels. You can use the qr codes at some displays for audio guides in english.
Stefan P — Google review
The highlight Is definitely the room with all the skulls buy, generally, it is a nice museum about the pre-hispanic period of the local aborigins. Don't lose the shop with a historical library
Marco G — Google review
Interesting "private" museum. Has three displays that come to life on your phone too.
-- — Google review
Interesting to learn about the history of the indigenous people of Gran Canaria through artifacts and exhibits. Small but quaint museum. Do note the it’s 2 levels and did not spot a lift hence unsure if it’s wheelchair friendly. Free audio guide using your mobile phone to scan the QR code in each museum room however unable to connect to the museum’s WiFi and 3G was crawling slow hence skipped the audio guide in total. Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays 10am to 8pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 2pm. Entry fees: €5, SGD7.10. Tickets can be bought at the entrance.
YP S — Google review
Super little museum that is both interesting and sad at the same time. It tells the story of the island's history and the fate of its indigenous people. There is a vast array of well-preserved artefacts on display, including a rather morbid but important display of mummies and skeletal remains. The displays are fascinating and very well presented. Not to be missed if you're in the city.

The Catedral Metropolitana de Santa Ana de Canarias, also known as the Santa Ana Cathedral, is a stunning Gothic cathedral located in the heart of Vegueta. Construction of this Roman Catholic cathedral began in 1500 and lasted for approximately four centuries, resulting in a mix of architectural styles including Gothic, Renaissance, and Neoclassical. The interior houses numerous notable religious artworks and is open to visitors free of charge.
Impressive inside and out. The Catedral de Santa Ana is the standout landmark in the old town. The architecture is striking, especially the front façade and the vaulted interior. It’s calm, clean, and well preserved. You can also take the lift up to the bell tower for a small fee, worth it for the views over the rooftops of Vegueta and towards the port. There’s a small museum inside too, with religious art and artefacts. It’s not huge, but definitely worth visiting if you’re in Las Palmas and want a bit of history and a break from the beach.
Patrik K — Google review
We didn't know you had to pay to visit the interior part of the church. At first we were a bit skeptical, but then we gave it a go as it wasn't expensive (€6 for adults, €4 for students or residents and under 12 free) and we sure weren't disappointed. The interior part of the church is well maintained and it looks stunning! But the view from the tower was for sure worth the climb of the stairs. There is an elevator as well but we decided to take the stairs. The view from the top looks like from a movie set and you won't be disappointed. The money is worth it 👌 i wouldn't miss the chance to visit. There is a little exhibition/museum as well. You can just pop there and buy your tickets at the door.
Monica I — Google review
Beautiful old Cathedral in As Palmas. Peaceful spot to explore and gather your thoughts. Can also access the roof via a lift and then climb the tower for even better views of the city and harbour. There is also an attached museum and at the time of our visit there was an additional exhibition. Would recommend.
Mike D — Google review
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Ana, also known as Catedral de Canarias, is a stunning architectural and historical landmark located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. 🏛️It was the first church built in the Canary Islands, symbolizing the establishment of Christianity in the archipelago. • The cathedral was the only one in the Canaries until 1819, when another diocese was created in Tenerife. 🎨 The cathedral showcases a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Neoclassical styles, reflecting its long construction period and multiple renovations. Inside, you’ll find columns shaped like palm trees, a nod to the island’s flora. Located in the Vegueta neighborhood, it’s surrounded by other historic sites like the Casa de Colón (Columbus House). Entrance for a small fee ( 6€ adults , 4€ students or residents and under 12 or disable free ). The interior part of the church is well maintained. The beautiful view from the tower was for sure worth the climb of the stairs🔝 There is an elevator as well but we decided to take the stairs ( only 163 stairs). We were accommodated right in front of the cathedral✅ Visited September 2025
Alina M — Google review
So glad we visited this beautiful church it’s filled with so much rich history, and the area around it is absolutely gorgeous. There’s a small entry fee, but it’s worth it since you get to explore the grounds, walk through the museum, and even head up the tower for breathtaking views of the city. You can also light a candle with a donation, which makes the visit feel even more special. When you exit the church and take a left, there’s an amazing tapas restaurant I highly recommend. Not too far from there, you’ll also find Christopher Columbus’s house, where he once stayed. The walk itself is a treat the streets are lined with vibrant-colored buildings and lush plants throughout. Truly a must-see!
Travelina K — Google review
Beautiful church on the outside, and even more amazing visiting inside. A majestic and unique place. The museum/art exhibition was breathtaking. Worth a visit. The view from the top of the cathedral is beautiful. You can even climb in the highest tower of the building.
Diana B — Google review
Great place to visit for either a service or just to look around. A trip to the tower is well worth it and can be reached by a lift or 167 steps From the lift remember to climb the last 30 stairs up the actual tower. View is great

Teatro Pérez Galdós is a beautiful theater located in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It offers a comfortable and intimate setting with good seating capacity, making it an ideal place to enjoy various performances. The theater's architecture and art in the lobby provide a glimpse into Canarian culture. Adjacent to the Triana district, visitors can also find lively nightlife spots with live music and dance venues.
I saw a performance by a dancer from the Gran Canaries. The theater was just gorgeous. The audience, decked out in their Sunday best, seemed to know the performer, which gave me a glimpse into natives and their culture. But, take a taxi as parking is difficult and the location, in the scenic old part of Las Palmas, is a pedestrian nightmare!

I went to see Carmen the opera x my ticket said restricted viewing and it was x the 3rd and 4th floor seats are amphitheatre style x 9 to a box like section x but they had a large screen TV and smaller ones to see the parts of the stage it was physically impossible to see. It was surreal seeing a French opera with Spanish subtitles x beautiful building though and fabulous interpretation of the opera x and best of all they don't rip you off for drinks in the auditorium x €5 for a large red wine and a bottle of water
Carol L — Google review
I Didn't go inside but it was a beautiful and very large building from the outside!
Jeff B — Google review
When I saw the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Gran Canaria, I was immediately taken aback by its stunning architecture. The building’s grandeur and historical charm were impossible to miss from the outside. The neoclassical and baroque elements on the façade created a sense of timeless elegance, with intricate columns and sculptural details that made the theater feel like a piece of living history. The exterior alone gave off an aura of refinement, and I could sense the importance this place holds in the heart of Las Palmas. Even though I didn’t have the chance to go inside, the architecture outside was more than enough to leave a lasting impression. The elegant design and well-preserved features of the building suggested an interior just as magnificent. The blend of classical styles and the vibrant energy of the location gave it a welcoming, yet majestic feel. Simply standing in front of it, I could tell that Teatro Pérez Galdós is a cultural treasure, a perfect reflection of Gran Canaria’s rich heritage. It’s a place I’d love to experience more of, especially once I have the opportunity to step inside.

Teatro Pérez Galdós is a beautiful and well-preserved theatre in Las Palmas, named after the famous Canarian writer. The architecture blends classical and modern elements, and the interior is elegant without being overdone. Acoustics are excellent, making it a great venue for opera, concerts, and theatre. It’s centrally located near the old town, so easy to visit before or after exploring Vegueta. Staff are welcoming, and the programme often includes both local and international performances. Even if you don’t attend a show, it’s worth seeing the building from the outside or joining a guided tour.
Patrik K — Google review
Beautiful theater in the heart of the city! And even better is stumbling onto 928 Capital Restaurant next door. A chic atmosphere + amazing food equals an all-around wonderful experience. There is even a brunch menu with a live Dj on Sundays!!!!
Claudia — Google review
Fantastic building. Al the art in lobby. Then the theatre is also really fantastic.
Kim Ö — Google review
Went to see Madama Butterfly at the theatre. The staging was excellent and the facilities in the theatre were superb. The only tickets available were marked as restricted view. This resulted in 50% of the stage not being visible from our seat and made worse by the lady in front constantly moving to try to see more. I would certainly return but try to buy better tickets

Fresh food market
Mercado De Vegueta is a must-visit in Las Palmas, offering an array of local delights. From cheeses to fresh produce and Atlantic fish, the market showcases Gran Canarian specialties. Visitors can also enjoy live performances and handicraft displays on Sunday mornings. The friendly vendors offer samples without pressure to buy. While exploring the market, visitors can find everything from meats and fruits to cosmetics and wines. However, it's advisable to haggle with vendors who do not display prices.
In you’re in Vegueta then you must visit this market and the busy street in front of it. It’s bustling and busy with locals shopping, but also lots of tourists too. Very colourful fruit stall displays with all sorts and varieties of tropical fruits. It’s a historic market in a historic area, both full of character and charm, and very photogenic.
Gustav — Google review
Lively, local, and worth a visit. Mercado de Vegueta is a proper working market, not just a tourist show. You’ll find fresh fruit, veg, fish, meat, spices, and Canarian products at fair prices. The quality is high and the stallholders know their stuff. It’s also a good place to grab a quick snack, some stalls serve coffee, juices, or tapas. The building itself is attractive and easy to navigate. Go early if you want the full experience before the crowds arrive. Ideal for picking up fresh produce or just getting a feel for local life.
Patrik K — Google review
The best fruit selection I have ever seen. All sort of fruit plus exotic local one who are beatiful to the eyes and really tasty and different. I wish to go back soon.
Daniele D — Google review
Great for the experience, with all the tropical fruits available. Prices probably aimed for tourists, rather than realistic.... Nice coffee shop, inside also - where you could be amongst the buzz of the market.

Amazing indoor market. The fruit and vegetable shops look like works of art. The shops are full of bright colourful goods from floor to ceiling. There are free toilets and plenty of places to eat and drink.
Dippy J — Google review
Big selection of fruit and veg. The more unusual ones are pricey and to be honest not worth trying. I'm not sure if fruits I bought were overripe or underripe but not very tasty. I don't even know the names of the fruits. Blue bananas when ripe are yellow and taste nice but one small banana will cost you over 4€. Probably the best to buy a tray with selection of fruits if you want to try a new ones.

(Translated by Google) Triana street in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is, in my opinion, the most important in the Canary Islands. It's a pleasure to shop there. There is everything, cheap, expensive and super expensive. The streets perpendicular to it are full of restaurants and cafes where it is very pleasant to have breakfast, lunch or dinner outdoors. You can see that the merchants in the area have worked hard. Highly recommended. The only pity is that the City Council is not up to par in its attention and care (Original) La calle Triana en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria es en mi opinión, las más importante de Canarias. Nature & Parks
Poema del Mar Aquarium, also known as Poem of the Sea, is a modern and expansive aquarium located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. With an area of 12,500 square meters and over 400 species of marine life, it offers visitors a captivating journey through diverse ecosystems and marine worlds from around the globe.
Excellent half day. 29 Euros entry and well worth it. I have visited similar before and they have been fine but this was the best aquarium experience I have r ever seen with it's prehistoric exhibits and if course the sharks and rays. The size is beyond comparison and although my 14 yr old son was moved to nothing more than a grunt I googled it and apparently that's means he thought it was excellent but is too cool to say much more. It's right next to the cruise drop off point so a one minute walk if that's where you're coming from. Then you can walk into the town centre too, no taxis required.

This place is amazing. We have visited the island 5 times before but the thought of the bus trip here put us off, but this year we went and so glad we did and regret not doing this before now. The place is a one way system with the different zones all amazing and fish we have never seen before. We timed it right and seen the feeding. The dinner hall with the full view of the aquarium was amazing and could sit there all day. Seeing the full size of the aquarium was just an amazing sight, The interactive info displays were an amazing touch with do much information on it. We will visit here again
Kayleigh M — Google review
A lot of interesting exhibits, with screens that tell you interesting facts about the animals. The whole walk around the aquarium is easy to follow and well curated. Many places to sit and watch the exhibits, making it not only an interesting experience, but also a relaxing one. The great shark tank experience feels like something out of this world. Also, walking through the glass tunnel is a unique experience. For just €29, this is a must see when visiting Gran Canaria! Absolutely one of the best places on the island.
Diana B — Google review
Definitely worth a visit, we spent about 3 hours here today, that included sitting for a drink, I think you could spend longer with children as they would be fascinated. Tickets were €30 each,& we caught the bus from puerto rico, no 91 to Santa Catalina bus station, its the last stop on bus route, then about 8 min walk, was €8 each. The whole aquarium is spotless the tanks look very clean,& all well cared for, just after you go in you can have a photo taken, it just shows you standing in front of greenery,€13 for 1 photo. There are so many different species of fish, reptiles, sharks, there is a lovely big tank you can sit in front of in an auditorium & just watch everything swimming past, so peaceful, just takes your time & take everything in, we even went back around a couple of pathways, highly recommend especially if you have time afterwards to go across the pedestrian bridge to the sea front, makes a lovely day out. It is one of those places we will definitely go back to.

We had a really great time visiting Poema del Mar Aquarium! The place is divided into several themed areas — jungle, underwater, and the massive main aquarium — and everything is spotless and beautifully designed. There’s so much to see, and the displays are really well done. One of the highlights for us was the small restaurant inside, where you can enjoy your meal while looking directly into the aquarium. Watching fish, turtles, and even sharks swim by as you eat is such a unique experience! Prices were also very reasonable — we paid around €8 for two drinks and a large portion of fries. Other standout features include the see-through tunnel that takes you right through the huge aquarium, the impressive pillar-shaped tank, and lots of smaller aquariums with colorful, exotic fish. Overall: A wonderful experience that we truly enjoyed. Poema del Mar is definitely worth a visit — fun, relaxing, and beautifully maintained!
Andreas F — Google review
We though prices were a touch on the steep side at €50+ each, but when we had seen the whole place we thought the prices were good. There is an impressive array of fish in many large and small tanks. We went around 2-3pm and it wasn't too busy at all. Some tanks amazed us and there was plenty of seating/viewing areas to admire the larger tanks. Playing classical music in these areas was a nice touch. Highly recommend and friendly staff Plenty of nearby car parks cheap as anything.

Most stunning aquarium I've ever been to. Wonderful tanks and I could sit and watch for hours. I've been 3 times, it is a must visit if you go to Gran Canaria. Never seems overly busy and you can sit in the restaurant right next to the large tank. Wonderful!

Absolutely worth every cent. Aquarium is very well built with lots of informative panels. There are several WCs and snack stops.. There is impressive amount of species - flora and fauna to see. Main star - imprssive aquarium with lots of sharks. Would recommend 100% to visit in Gran Canaria.

Parque de Santa Catalina is a historic and vibrant seafront park in Gran Canaria. It has witnessed the city's growth since the 19th century, evolving from a dock and factories to a bustling district with shops, cafes, and boutiques. The park features a children's playground, spacious esplanade with bars and cafes overlooking gardens, and hosts the renowned Elder Museum. This lively area is also home to big stores like El Corte Ingles.
Beautiful place. Did not stop long enough to all the sights. Restaurants do very tasteful food

I was pleasantly surprised to find a corner of the park decorated with mosaics featuring the flags of different countries—a lovely detail! However, the experience was slightly affected by the noticeable smell of urine in that area and the lack of cleanliness. Many pet owners seem to neglect cleaning up after their animals, which is quite disappointing. Aside from that, the park itself is nice and offers a good place to relax.

It usually maintains optimal cleanliness and is a nice place to simply be and, why not, watch people pass by. Adapt every moment to the new times, it has been maintained and preserved in perfect harmony with the growth of the city. Adapted to reduced mobility. It has a very well-known restaurant with a splendid chef. If you want to surprise someone and look good... don't hesitate. The bodegón restaurant of the Canarian town and its chef José Graciano, is your perfect place. I give it 5 stars because I have no other alternative and there are no more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Original) Me encanta su entorno. (Translated by Google) The deplorable state of neglect of this gem, so beloved by all residents and so visited by tourists, is a deplorable one. Our City Council hasn't had the time or budget in three consecutive terms to even minimally spruce up this proud and representative piece of traditional Canarian architecture. It's embarrassing to see part of the Hotel Santa Catalina just a few meters away, built in the same style, but fully restored and preserved, yet another example of the differences between public and private management. A heritage site left to its fate, and a Néstor Museum within the grounds has been closed for eight years (since 2017) for restoration work, with no progress on either construction or restoration. It's a shame that thousands and thousands of euros are spent on promotions, trips, trade shows, etc., and they can't afford to keep this gem in even a minimally decent condition.

The Mercado del Puerto is a market located beneath 19th-century wrought-iron arches, home to food stalls and tapas bars. It is a perfect spot for meeting friends and tasting tapas, as well as enjoying live music on offer.
Enjoyable, freshly prepared local food. A fine experience having a small glass of wine along with pinxtios. Wonderful atmosphere in the early evening. Good place to hang with locals.
Alex P — Google review
Actually less of a typical Mercado and more of a food stand collection, in a good way. You can find a large collection of pinchos and ham vendors, plus the typical providers of all kind of beverages including a very Brazilian cocktail stand … 🍸🤪🍹 Enjoy!
Jump N — Google review
Mercato del Porto is a compact, well-designed food hall just off Las Canteras beach, near the southern end by the cruise terminal. It mixes a few fresh produce stalls with a handful of food and wine kiosks, giving it a modern, laid-back feel that’s good for grazing or casual drinks. You won’t find rows of traditional market stands here, it’s more of a gourmet stop than a local supply market. Expect wine bars, tapas, fresh oysters, and some international bites, all served in a space that feels clean and contemporary. There’s indoor and semi-outdoor seating, and it gets livelier in the late afternoon and evenings. It's not huge, but it’s a welcome option if you’re looking for something a bit more local than the usual beachfront restaurants. Close enough for a lunch stop if you're at Las Canteras, and relaxed enough for an early evening drink with decent food. Good for: casual dining, small groups, something quick but nicer than fast food.

A striking building at the end of Las Canteras beach, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium combines great acoustics with bold architecture. It’s worth visiting even if you’re not attending a concert, just for the view of the waves crashing behind the glass stage wall. Inside, the main hall is modern and comfortable, with strong sound quality. The programming includes classical music, jazz, and local events. Staff are professional and the venue is well run. The outside terrace is a good spot to sit, and the surrounding area has restaurants, the beach, and walking paths.

The place is beautiful with great views. We visited the Tribute to Queen and the singer were very good also the ladies on the choir, the Symphonic orchestra amazing BUT I have to say for the rock was the sound terribly disappointing. The CAAM - Atlantic Center of Modern Art is housed in a restored 18th-century building and features contemporary exhibits by international artists. Located in the architecturally-rich district of Vegueta, this Canarian institution showcases avant-garde exhibitions from Europe, America, and Africa. The museum's selection of artists reflects the tri-continental aspect of modern Canarian culture due to its unique geographic location.
Absolutely excellent exhibition by Zak Ové, with nods to Horace Ové too - possibly the most immaculate collection I've ever seen, and a great range too. And it's completely free (I couldn't even see a donate spot, which I would have done gladly).
Vic M — Google review
Well-curated and free to enter. CAAM is a clean, quiet modern art gallery with a mix of local, African, and Latin American artists. The exhibitions change regularly and often touch on social or political themes, more thought-provoking than decorative. The building is spread over a few floors with a rooftop terrace and a nice blend of modern and historic architecture. It doesn’t take long to go through, but it’s time well spent if you're nearby. Staff were polite and gave space to browse. A solid cultural stop in the old town, especially if you need a break from the sun.
Patrik K — Google review
Closed until next year 2026 for now exhibition. Through there are several small museums open and free to.

CLOSED but they have one room open (no other facilities or restroom) with an exhibit of Sergio Calvo. Great English overviews and timelines, and the paintings are worth seeing, especially for FREE. Very nice to have this art available to the town.
Jason Z — Google review
Artistic culture of three continents: Africa, America and Europe presenting paintings, drawings, sculpture, graphics, mail art on 3 levels will surely delight you and give you some time to get to know what the museum presents. It is definitely worth it and contact with a wide range of art will give you a lot of joy and, of course, reflection.
Lukasz T — Google review
I'm biased because I love modern arts museums, but I loved both of the CAAM museums. Both were free of charge in January 2023. The smaller one, near Casa de Colón, I give five stars, easily. It was small enough for me to take all in. I can't do big exhibitions, my brain can't handle all that, so this one was perfect for me This, the bigger one? If you go there, and you should because it's great, just have time for couple of hours to spend there. The exhibition was everything the art should be, it meddled with your feelings and your thoughts about the world. For me, it was a bit too woke, occasionally, that's why I'm not giving it five stars. But, it's art. You can and should have an opinion, and I definitely encourage you to see this beautifully constructed exhibition too.
M M — Google review
Spacious and varied modern art gallery. Free admission and lockers for bags. Good lift access for those less mobile. Exhibits will vary but the current range focusing on environmentalism is important and well thought out. No cafe facilities and the terrace is tiny. Worth a visit if you enjoy modern art

Doramas Park is a 47,800 square meter park located in Ciudad Jardin on the northwest side of Gran Canaria. It features fountains, waterfalls, and native plants such as dragons, figs, and palm trees. The park commemorates the events in 1481 when Doramas challenged the Spaniards to single combat.

Such a beautiful and tranquil park, it is a huge recommendation for a nice stroll through a very nice kept garden/park. They seems to take very good care of all the areas and there are many different trees, flower and plants. The park is beautiful in the day but in the night when the lights are turned out it becomes even magical. It's a nice place to rest a bit while being in the city of Las Palmas without really leaving the city.
Phillip H — Google review
No monitored or free to access public toilets or drinking fountains. The park is Security patrolled and kept relatively clean for the visitor numbers. Great park to let the kids run around except on weekends and especially Sundays when public service is very light. Sadly on our last visit we discovered humans had used the cave area for toilet and toilet paper waste. We also saw rats climbing in a few of the trees in the daytime. Water quality in fountains is an organic waste mess with little oxygen and almost zero for native species. We did see a painted head turtle (not native species) which was cute. There is lovely flora and fauna. Nice for a stop when out for a city hike or bike as it is full of shade and there is usually a nice breeze. Wind however can bring other smells of human and animal waste and these smells can be overwhelming. A little open air cafe is located in the lower part and this does have toilet facilities if open. This Parque Doramas is part of a larger system of parks and trails dotting up and along the hillside connecting the lower neighborhoods by the upper neighborhoods. At the moment bike connections up / down the hillsides limited to sidewalks along car streets. Walking / hiking trails are nicely placed away from the car noise no signage to find hiking / bike path information though. The Secret Garden Trail is found 200m to the left (South) when looking uphill after a short walk through the urban core past the giant Social Security office or above along the Paseo Chil street that runs North - South with large sidewalks and bicycle trail. Directly above brings you to a lovely viewing area beside the church at the top of the hill and further towards the North along Paseo Chil street from Park Doramas you can reach the Plaza Mesa y Lopez and connect to Playa Las Canteras (top ten beach in the world) midway along its 3 km + stretch of sand and volcanic rock cliffs. Definitely worth a stop to Park Doramas. If your hungry you can splurge and dine at the newly renovated 5 star Parque Santa Catalina Hotel directly under Park Doramas and sharing its Eastern border. Enjoy. Sounds of the city disappear for the most part here and you can catch quite a few bird sounds and lizards sightings if lucky. Saw a turtle sunning on the rocks in the pond by the waterfalls too :)

Located on the peninsula of La Isleta in Las Palmas, Castillo de la Luz is a restored stone fortification dating back to 1541. It now houses a modern art collection, including 25 pieces by artist Martín Chirino. The fortress offers a blend of historical and contemporary elements, with its old structure carefully exposed and integrated with modern concrete architecture. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the rose garden and take in views of the harbor while sipping coffee.
A beautiful mix of history and the art of Martin Chirino. Nestled in a lovely neighborhood park with roses and places for children to play. Well worth the visit to see the stunning fusion of sculpture and history.

Quite interesting, but would have preferred more information about the castle than about the art installation. Also felt very uncomfortable as a member of staff watched me like a hawk as if I was going to steal one of the huge iron art pieces. Followed me from the minute I entered until I left.

If you are into modern art and sculptures this is for you. This is in no way a castle but a fort. The fort itself was lovely.

Beautiful the building from outside and heavily rebuilt inside. Good example how tò save a historical landmark with something different (masterpieces of a local author of last century inside)
Marco G — Google review
Nice castle with museum that we hadn't the occasion to visit. It represents a nice example of old spanish fortress used to protect the island and the old city of Las Palmas. It is located inside a small park with a playground for children.
Luca P — Google review
Don't visit this place of you are looking for a history museum with antique weapons or stories of spanish expeditions. Also consider if your kids will appreciate it. This is an amazing modern art museum that is built on the grounds of an old fortification. It is a very interesting piece of architecture where the remains of an old building are carefully exposed and blended with a modern and monumental concrete architecture. It houses a permanent exhibition of sculptures that go very hand in hand with the spaces created in the building. I had a wonderful time exploring this museum and wondering around on the multiple levels and passages, reading stories on the finctional history of the fortress amd exploring useless sculptures and the way how they have been integrated in the vast space. Worthwile visisit if you enjoy contemporary architecture, enjoy the luxury of space and want to experience something interesting.
Artis G — Google review
Before visiting, I was not convinced. The entrance is only 4 euros. The building and neighbourhood have been restored with a lot of elegance and respect for the historical building. The inside hosts a permanent exhibition that fits totally with the place, with metalic sculptures and light sonor effects. I truly recommend the place. There is a locker to store your bagpack before entering the site (1 euro to insert).
Mery W — Google review
It is a very quiet and peaceful museum. Nice to see a piece of history. My 9 year old son enjoyed a lot and wants to revisit. It takes less than hour to see it all. Maybe a little longer if you read all the plates.

Cenobio de Valerón is an intriguing archaeological site located on the northwest side of Gran Canaria. It consists of over 300 caves that were used as a communal granary by the indigenous people until the 15th century. The site was created to store harvests, providing protection from animals, storms, and theft. With its historical significance, it was declared a Cultural Interest Site in 1974.
Calm, beautiful place up in the mountains Tickets are available for 3 eur per adult, 2 eur per 11 year old kid Its safe to wear slippers there, not safe run around ( for small kids ) Quite informative and worthy kind of entertainment

Quite the uphill drive, but definitely worth it. The history of the place is well documented throughout the climb, and the views are stunning. The staff were really nice as well! The parking spots are very few (around 7).

The Cenobio de Valerón is a truly impressive archaeological site in Gran Canaria. Carved into the rock, these ancient grain storage caves offer a unique window into the lives of the island’s early inhabitants. The site is well preserved and set against a stunning natural backdrop. With the €5 entrance ticket, you also gain access to a nearby museum, definitely worth visiting! The museum is just a short drive away and includes a guided tour that provides an excellent overview of the island’s history and culture. The explanations were engaging and informative, helping to connect the dots between the various archaeological sites across Gran Canaria. During our visit, we even came across a small "robber fly", harmless as long as it’s left alone, but a fun reminder that we’re on an exotic island after all! Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or just looking to experience something different while exploring Gran Canaria.

Drive to the location might be a bit challenging due to it being in a mountain. But once there, there’s some parking and a little hut to buy tickets and nicknacks. Few steps to reach the location. Location is a bit short and small, not much to do but good for pics. Not wheelchair friendly.

Absolutely breathtaking. For me it was a must see, and it was absolutely worth it. The views are stunning and the ruin is just beautiful. There's lots of information about the guanches and how they lived. Staff was also friendly and it wasn't busy at all. If you're tired of all the tourist trappy places on gran Canaria, I definitely recommend going here. You won't fill up an entire day here but it's 100% worth it to take a look.

El Confital is a remote and secluded coastline renowned for its boardwalk, where visitors can engage in activities like surfing, swimming, and sunbathing. This rocky beach offers a unique charm with patches of yellow sand during the summer months. In addition to being one of Europe's top surfing destinations, El Confital boasts abundant rock pools and sheltered inlets that cater to swimmers of all levels.
A beautiful coastal spot and beach, but pretty isolated from busy tourist areas. There is a wooden path which you can walk along the coast to enjoy this amazing landscape. Public toilet is also provided in the area. Personally, I believe El Confital would definitely be a heaven for those who fancy nice and calm place.

Nice area for a walk from the main town, though it was a bit windy on the day we went. There were lots of people out for their morning jog and the main beach area well maintained with a wooden walkway and areas for sunning yourself. Disappointed to find the only toilet's there were locked.
Chris B — Google review
Lovely peaceful area to walk around. I recommend taking decent shoes and exploring the rocks where you can see beautiful red crabs. There are some areas where you can sunbathe and have more privacy than at the other more popular beaches. There were toilets but they were locked both times I visited at the weekend and on a weekday.

The nicest, dog friendly beach og Las Palmas, peaceful nature for a bit of a hike as well. Sunsets are gorgeous here, you can sit on a bench and watch the breathtaking view while you can listen to the music of the waves. My favorite spot on the island 🏝

Jekaterina V — Google review
A lovely nature reserve beach visited by the locals. A dozen or so people were here to surf but you need to be careful of the rockpools. The beach has a few nooks so you can have some privacy. This place has an amazing view of the city if you take a small hike up to the top of the rocky hill where you'll find a cross at the top as well as caves built into the hill/cliff facing the beach. There is a public restroom available, which was locked when we were there, as well as a large parking area which was mostly empty as many people arrived on foot.
Chad W — Google review
Very long beach that is very rocky and with the high and low tides it does not allow everyone to go in for a dip. If you are a good swimmer you can enjoy in the waters, otherwise be careful where you are stepping.

Bandama Caldera, located in Gran Canaria, is a remarkable natural wonder formed around 5,000 years ago by a powerful volcanic eruption. This circular crater spans about 1 kilometer in width and plunges over 200 meters deep. Visitors can embark on an off-the-beaten-path adventure by hiking along the rim to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and Las Palmas city.
Visiting the Caldera de Bandama is more than just a scenic walk—it's a journey to clear your mind and reconnect with nature. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply looking for a peaceful spot to reflect, Bandama will surprise and refresh you. A Peaceful Connection with Nature. !!!The trail around the Caldera de Bandama is quite rocky and can get slippery, especially when you're descending or climbing.!!!
Teodora F — Google review
A dramatic volcanic crater not far from Las Palmas. Caldera de Bandama is around 1 km wide and 200 metres deep. You can walk along the rim for panoramic views or take the steeper path down into the crater for a closer look at the terrain. The rim trail is the easier option, uneven in parts, but manageable with decent shoes. The descent into the crater is tougher and best avoided in midday heat. There’s a small viewing platform nearby (Mirador de Bandama), and you can drive right up to it. Good spot for photos and learning a bit of local geology.
Patrik K — Google review
Be sure to add this location to a list when planning a sightseeing of island's mountains. It's not a caldera, it is explosion site, which makes it even more exciting to see and photos does not convey the massiveness of the place.
Stanislav T — Google review
Fantastic views! There is a point where the volcano meets the green tundra that we loved; at the opposite part of the walking start.
Paco P — Google review
Great walk..Not easy all the way around but absolut well worth the effort. You get some great view point for taking pictures or just enjoy the view. And looking into the volcano crater is just fascinating. Don´t worry it´s about 2000 years ago since it last erupted.
Mette M — Google review
Very nice route for a trip, beautiful views and lots of spots where you can sit and enjoy the views!
Nina W — Google review
It is easy to get down and really tough to get all the way back up again. It starts off with a pathway but quickly it disappears. Be careful when it's raining as it can be slippery. As there is an old wine vineyard/distillery there it makes me think how they managed to get all the wine up haha. They do have a information board explaining the house there but not that part. There are so many pretty flowers, green trees and other interesting plants. If you can I'd recommend a trip down to see everything there. Do explore most of it! Unfortunately there are so many people carving names into the great tree there, such a shame to see.
Nicholai M — Google review

This lively marketplace is a treasure trove for both locals and visitors alike, offering an impressive array of local products including fresh fruits, vegetables, artisanal cheeses, succulent meats, and freshly caught fish. Mercado Central de Las Palmas is a proper working market—less touristy, more local. You’ll find fresh produce, fish, meats, cheeses, spices, and some small food stalls. Prices are decent, and the quality is high. It’s busiest in the morning. The layout is easy to navigate, with two floors and a mix of traditional and modern touches. Not flashy, but reliable. Worth stopping by if you’re self-catering or want to see where locals actually shop. There’s paid parking nearby and cafés around the entrance.

We had a simple cup of coffee and a sandwich at this shop, surrounded by the atmosphere of a fresh market. However, the ambiance was surprisingly relaxing—not too crowded or chaotic. The Elder Museum of Science and Technology in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a perfect destination for families with children. From exploring a replica space station to experiencing the universe at the planetarium, there are plenty of hands-on activities to engage young minds.
This was an amazing adventure. 2 mins walk from the bus station, right by catalina park 4 levels of interesting displays, most interactive. The virtual reality ones were great , one walking a plank, another canoeing. A mini ice skating rink, airplanes you can climb into. A robot greets you, you can pay at the desk, €8 with concessions for pensioners and children ½ price. There's a planetarium there and also a 3D cinema, it was just wonderful to wander around freely with no one directing you, I really enjoyed the whole thing 😀

I absolutely love this museum. It was a great get away from the heat and discovering the history of the Canary Islands 🇮🇨. With my little one really enjoyed how interactive this museum was with stimulation programmes, movies, knowing more about the starts with a projector presentation, checking our body composition. However some of the parts were closed, and not many things were translated to English. I know we were in Spain, I am desperate to speak Spanish. The overall experience was great we spent 3 hours discovering the whole place.

El Corte Inglés is a renowned department store in Spain, offering a diverse range of products to suit various preferences and budgets. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, its supermarket stands out for its selection of grass-fed meat from local farms, known for being healthier and more sustainable than conventional options. Additionally, the Siam Mall in Tenerife and El Corte Ingles shopping center feature an array of international luxury brands.
A very well run and comprehensively stocked department store. The staff are very helpful and put you at your ease. Great place for efficient festive shopping. Nice seafood bar in the back for a quick, fuss free meal and houses one of the island’s few Starbucks (we all know how important that is!) Their supermarket is in the opposite building has a great range of seafood, meats, deli and fresh produce. My personal favourite is the cooked food counter just outside the supermarket area. Here you can pick up some very decent prepared food to take with you. A very convenient solution for busy shopping days!

This shopping centre offers a comprehensive selection of goods. The supermarket, reputed to be among the finest in Gran Canaria, boasts a wide array of fruits, vegetables, meats, wines, fish, and various other food items. Furthermore, a significant portion of the produce is sourced locally. We will certainly be visiting again.

☆☆☆☆ – A Masterclass in How Not to Treat a Customer If you ever wondered what happens when a luxury department store forgets the very meaning of customer service, just pay a visit to El Corte Inglés at Mesa y López, Las Palmas. It’s like walking into an alternative universe where the customer is always… wrong. After 20 years living between Málaga and Puerto Banús – where service actually exists – I thought I’d seen it all. Oh, how wrong I was. This place redefines mediocrity. I came to buy a Dyson fan, clearly marked at €499 online. In-store? €799. When I asked why, I was told I’d get 10% back if I applied for a “tourist card.” Five cheerful ladies promised it like it was gospel. Today, when I came to claim that refund, suddenly no one remembered anything. Blank stares, confused looks, and the kind of customer service that would make a rock blush. When I politely (at first) protested, I was met with defensive excuses and a total lack of accountability. The store manager seemed more focused on chatting with colleagues than managing his store, while the customer service desk displayed a level of emotional fragility and passive-aggressive smugness that would win awards – if there were Oscars for customer alienation. In short: • Promises made, promises broken. • Staff completely untrained in handling legitimate complaints. • A shocking absence of basic respect for paying customers. Tip: Record your interactions here if you want proof. You’ll need it. The Dyson itself? Excellent. The experience? A €9500 lesson in disappointment. I will never return. Thankfully, there’s another El Corte Inglés on the island – hopefully managed by someone who remembers what “El Corte Inglés” once stood for under Isidoro Álvarez: elegance, integrity, and professionalism. Serious inquiries or media contact welcome via direct message. #GranCanaria #ElCorteIngles #CustomerServiceFail #LasPalmas #ExpatsGranCanaria #TouristWarning #SpainShopping #ConsumerRights #Dyson #RetailNightmare #NeverAgain

El Corte Ingles is what you would call a high end department store. If you're on the look out for something special, there is a chance you will find it here. The service is great, the staff is always willing to help you out. Also easy to pick up any item you have bought online.

El Corte Inglés José Mesa y López lives up to its name as a premier shopping destination. With a wide range of products and excellent customer service, this department store is a shopping paradise in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The first impression upon entering the store is overwhelming - the variety of products seems endless. From clothing to electronics, household items to groceries, El Corte Inglés has it all. The store is well-organized and easy to navigate, making shopping a pleasant experience. What truly sets this store apart is the friendly and helpful staff. Whether you’re seeking advice on fashion, electronics, or anything else, the staff is ready to assist. They often speak multiple languages, which is a plus for tourists. Furthermore, El Corte Inglés José Mesa y López frequently offers promotions and discounts, making shopping here even more attractive. The variety of restaurants and cafés within the department store is an added bonus, allowing you to enjoy a snack or drink in between. In summary, El Corte Inglés José Mesa y López is a store that everyone should visit when in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It not only offers high-quality products but also provides a fantastic shopping experience. It’s a place where both locals and tourists enjoy spending their time.

San Cristóbal is a charming fishing village located just south of Las Palmas. The colorful houses painted in different hues create a vibrant and picturesque atmosphere, making it a must-visit for color enthusiasts. The narrow streets and seafaring ambiance offer a delightful walking experience, while the local restaurants serve authentic Canarian gastronomic offerings such as wrinkled potatoes, fresh fish, and gofio.
San Cristobal, the fisherman's haven where toughness meets the sea breeze and hard work flirts with the whimsical charm of what seems like a splash of jailbreak chic. The locals, a blend of resilience and grit, could make sea storms apologize for being mere ripples. Wandering through this village is like stumbling upon a maritime melodrama where the characters are tough-as-nails fishermen with a knack for turning fish tales into epic sagas. The air is thick with the scent of saltwater, painted with the hues of characterful, colorful homes that could rival any artist's palette. As you observe the locals, you might find yourself wondering if you accidentally wandered onto the set of a gritty maritime movie. The hardworking spirit is so palpable that even the seagulls seem to nod approvingly from their perches, recognizing kindred spirits in the village's residents. And let's talk architecture – the colorful homes are like a rebellion against the conventional, as if the villagers collectively decided, "Let's paint our homes as boldly as we face the open ocean." It's like living in a vibrant postcard with a touch of nautical rebellion. So, if you're up for a taste of the salty sea air and a brush with the residents who could double as the protagonists in a maritime blockbuster, San Cristobal awaits. It's a place where toughness is a currency, hard work is a way of life, and every colorful home tells a tale as vivid as the open ocean before it. An escapade that's a mix of Hemingway's tales, a splash of jailhouse charisma, and a pinch of seafaring irony. Welcome to San Cristobal, where the ocean isn't the only thing making waves!

These include native flora from the Canary Islands and other Macaronesian islands, as well as imported cacti and succulents.
Awesome extremely big garden with different themes. If you want to hike - park at the top. Don't - park at lower spot. A lot to see, long to walk. We had a nice time there.

I recently visited this botanical garden that focuses on preserving nature in its most natural form. The experience was truly enjoyable. Unlike some gardens that feel overly landscaped, this one had a more organic and untouched feel, making it a perfect place to relax and appreciate nature. The variety of plants was impressive, with well-maintained walking paths that allowed visitors to explore different areas without disturbing the surroundings. There were plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and I especially liked how the garden integrated local plants. Overall, it’s a wonderful place for anyone who loves nature and wants to take a quiet walk away from the noise of the city. While it may not have dramatic, manicured flower displays, its natural beauty speaks for itself. I would definitely recommend a visit.

It's hard to rate this place because its potential is limitless, but more effort should be put into maintaining it. I'd like to be able to enter the nursery. A very beautiful garden worth visiting. We actually started at the entrance from the top where we were greeted by an amazing view. We went all the way down and there were all sorts of plants and trees along the route. Playa del Confital is a clothing-optional beach located in the southeastern part of Gran Canaria, near Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is known for its golden sand and is popular among nudists. The beach offers stunning views of Las Palmas and has waves suitable for surfing and bodyboarding. Situated at the end of the beautiful Las Canteras beach, Playa del Confital can be accessed on foot via a wooden walkway along the sea from La Isleta peninsula.
Very nice beach. Beautiful pedestrian path for long walks near the sea. Also, you can access by car till car park. For an alternative path, you can walk in the hills. Beautiful view once you get to the top. Through this neighborhood you can also access an abandoned military area.
Muge B — Google review
Sadly here at this beach the city fails to employ lifeguards, maintain and keep open public toilets, remove graffiti and generally attempt to police the behavior of the few crazies that roam regularly here. Otherwise it is lovely to look at and relax near until you begin to witness where the locals do their business when the toilets are locked! Nearest available and open public toilets 5km South on Las Canteras Beach. Wow what a waste of repairs. No parks service either. They make Roque Nublo pay to enter to control waste. Here is most likely their next for profit adventures and the creep of private beaches under guise of "natural". All they needed to do was repeat Las Canteras success. Instead they dump millions of taxpayers dollars towards improvements, maintain the failures that keep sane crowds away and prepare the space for private for profit takeover. Very sad and probably a parking lot pretend campsite soon too. What a waste of good space and nice improvement. Needs lifeguards and public toilets, showers like Las Canteras. Bonus would be clean drinking water fountains. The food truck at the entrance does not have toilets either. One of the drinkers patronizing the food truck is going to fall in the ocean next time they descend the cliffs to do their waste removal behind the palm tree on the cliff side. Pleasure yacht spotted at time of visit steering through what is supposed to be the protected marine reserves of these waters? Maybe they were studying or monitoring the great poop patch off the shore that forms from the waste pipes and run off that have still not been upgraded or controlled.

Excellent reproduction of the homes of Benito Perez Galdós from the 19th century. Includes representations of rooms from his Santander house and a copy of the famous painting of him by Sorolla. Architectural Buildings
The Literary Cabinet, a cultural association located in Las Palmas, is a 19th-century landmark known for its elegant art and architecture. Situated on Plaza de Cairasco, it is just a short walk from Casa Museo de Colon. Originally a theater, the building now serves as a cultural center offering literary and cultural programs. Its eye-catching Modernist facade showcases the splendor of Renaissance style.
When I first saw the Gabinete Literario in Gran Canaria, I was immediately impressed by its stunning architecture. From the outside, the building exudes an air of classic elegance, with its neoclassical style and intricate details that immediately caught my eye. The grand columns, decorative elements, and symmetrical design made it look like a piece of history, standing proudly amidst the surrounding area. Even though I didn’t get a chance to enter, the exterior alone was enough to make a strong impression. The façade, with its refined touches, felt like it had a story to tell, and I could imagine how beautiful and historic the interior must be. The building’s combination of classical features with a sense of grandeur really made it stand out as a cultural gem in Las Palmas. It felt like a place where important moments in literature and culture have unfolded. I’m eager to return and explore more of its beauty from the inside, but even just viewing the Gabinete Literario from the outside was an experience in itself.

It’s not only a disappointment it’s a disaster! due to change of management. This place has become an underdog(?) of gastronomy. Not only we have been there many times before, thrilled by real Spanish/international cuisine in 2022/23… no this year 2024 we planned an extra excursion to the old town just to enjoy this place, and discover that it has gone beyond imagination bad. First all tables are marked reserved ( with no customer is ever in view) then there is an amount of managing personal discussing whatever internal things. When we managed to get allowed to sit at one of the empty tables, we had food that you can find anywhere in the world, in this island, in Spain, wherever you want. Just basic, the only thing which is not basic is the price which keeps up high ranking… probably they only want to serve the club members. I pity them! If you go to your club, and you find food that has decreased in quality to this extent, you can only sit and cry! disappointing 😭😭

Building is stunning and we had an even more beautiful place to sit/eat outside. That is: if you get served at all. The waiter puts down a plate and cutlery but doesn’t brings the menu, neither did he asked if we wanted to drink something. I picked up the menu at a different table and saw that 10% service fee is automatically charged. The waiter never came to take an order. Both waiters did pass our table multiple times. After 10 minutes we got up and left. Wonder what’s the 10% for… 🤔

Grupo Escultórico Los Perros de la Plaza de Santa Ana, also known as the Sculptural Group of the Dogs in Santa Ana Square, is a collection of eight life-size cast iron dog statues located in the emblematic Plaza de Santa Ana. These charming statues were created by French sculptor Alfred Jacquemar and have been adorning the square since 1895.
The bronze dog statues at Plaza de Santa Ana are one of Las Palmas’ most photographed landmarks. They’re not ancient, but locals are fond of them, and they’ve become a symbol of the city. The eight sculptures sit calmly in front of the cathedral, each with a different posture and expression. They’re popular with kids and tourists, expect to see people posing with them. No plaques or signs explain them on site, so it helps to read up beforehand. A small detail in a grand square, but memorable if you like local quirks and photo stops.

The Dogs of Santa Ana perhaps one of the most distinctive feature of the square is the eight bronze dog statues. These iconic sculptures have become a symbol of the city and a popular spot for photos.

(Translated by Google) Memorial for abandoned dogs who were never allowed to attend church services. The Memorial of the Forgotten Wauzis – A masterpiece of snout pain As you walk through the old town, you stumble upon – almost literally – the work of art right in front of the venerable cathedral. The memorial rises between the Spanish Gothic towers and praying doves. Some bronze sculptures of sad dogs looking faithfully towards the cathedral as if to ask: "Really, Klaus? Immediately after the service you parked me at the confessional and then ran off to Tenerife with the church choir?" Tourists regularly mistake it for a modern saint. Children stroke his nose. And me? I linger there regularly to listen to passers-by arguing about the deeper meaning. Is it a plea against irresponsibility? A swipe at dog ethics? Or simply the result of an art scholarship with too much budget and a Vichlar in the heart? No matter what: the memorial is a triumph! It makes you laugh, makes you think - and makes you call your own dog again. If you still have it. 5 out of 5 bones – would stand in front of it emotionally confused again.

Playa de las Alcaraveneras, a centrally located city beach in Gran Canaria, is well-known for sunbathing and engaging in various sand sports and recreational activities. It is situated near Playa de las Canteras but sees fewer visitors. While nearby surfers and snorkelers gravitate towards the waves and reefs, this spot appeals more to sailing and canoeing enthusiasts.
A small park with play areas. It has volleyball, basketball and a small football court. Play area for children are also available.

It's got a good vibe, especially in the morning seeing people playing volleyball, basketball or football, plus the sun rises first here. Kinda nice, so far the nicest one I found in Las Palmas.

3 stars is being polite. Garbage strewn, poorly maintained infrastructure, with the worst part being well made repairs sitting beside areas completely not addressed. It just demonstrates the city happy with patch jobs instead of a proper repair and rethink. Washrooms are at least available however they are not inviting. Water quality is always horrible with visible notes of boats poo discharge in places when the tide is flat. 3 stars as they do make an effort, especially to include sports venues. More work is needed to find housing options for the many many rough campers and sleepers that frequent here. More and better washroom and shower / locker facilities needed. Public water fountains and emplaced shaded areas both for the general public and the handicapped and elderly should be here. Access to beach areas and facilities is severely limited to those with times two working legs. Full time 24hr lifeguards, washrooms presence should be here including at 3 points start middle and end of the beach area. This would be jobs for citizens and help for those attracted to the area for rough sleeping to access common basic facilities late at night. Consideration should be given to have dignified city tents & an alternative sight and transport for rough sleepers. Not the tractor and water cannon to wash the sidewalks each evening to drive people away at the earliest hours. Do better Las Palmas - point to note - do better Las Palmas including enforcement of illegal parking and street paint etc. Perhaps if you employed people to do these jobs you would have the money, safety and balanced enforcement in the city. Don't forget Engineering - patch jobs are better then no jobs but seriously was it too difficult to have the same construction crew that remade the bike path not continue to work on painting and washrooms construction etc?

Pico de Bandama is a popular spot for hikers, offering breathtaking trails and stunning views of the north-western part of the island. The 1,000m volcanic crater, Caldera de Bandama, is home to a single shepherd and his livestock. Hiking down into the crater reveals various colors and variations of volcanic ash. The steep and gravelly track requires sturdy footwear and offers an intensive workout with a 200-meter elevation difference.
Great viewpoint to see the crater, the drive up is also breathtaking. We didnt end up hiking the crater since it would take about an hour with no shade in the midday sun but we'd love to do it one day.

Absolutely amazing view of this 2000 year old crater, filled with much greenery & a bit of volcanic soil still shows. It was a lovely clear day, so you can see the view for miles away on all sides. Got up there early before the rush of people arrived so was able to relax, eat our lunch & enjoy the views. The only issue is that there is no public bathroom available. It was out of order. But it seems that from reading the previous reviews, this has been an ongoing issue.
Pebbles F — Google review
Stunning amazing views over an imploded volcano crater and the capital city, the ocean and port and surrounding areas. It was very lush and green. Only a couple of benches and the toilets were open. Steps up to the very top where their was a little craft stall. It was a windy road up in the coach and roadside parking only their. Well worth the road up as beautiful.
Sheila B — Google review
Amaizing places! Well worth a hike around and into the caldera. Easier going down and harder getting back up again, as the track is steep and quite loose gravel in places (so good, solid trekking or sports footings advised; flip-flops or sandals out of the question). You will do 2-3 km going down or then up that 200 meters elevation difference (caldera's depth) that will turn out to be an intensive, welcomed and well deserved exercise - make sure you're fit and hydrated. At the bottom of it, use the 1 km diameter rather flat bed to streck and walk around... It is surreally beautiful, nice, quiet and the vibes from the surrounding rocky walls, old farming houses and the Nature itself are so welcoming! Very nice experience indeed!

Bodega Los Lirios is a charming vineyard located in the mountains/volcano, offering wine tastings and local cuisine accompanied by English music performances. The venue boasts breathtaking surroundings, delightful wines, and impeccable food and entertainment. It is highly recommended to visit this family-owned winery for a tour or simply enjoy a homemade lunch while savoring their exquisite selection of wines on a Sunday afternoon. The welcoming family is always ready to provide information and answer any inquiries.
This last Sunday my partner and I had the most wonderful and amazing afternoon at bodega los lirios. We bought the picnic (comes with the tour, around 45min long), which I personally loved. I could feel the care, dedication and passion towards this amazing family project/business. I learned a lot about wine and the picnic was spectacular. I’ll repeat for sure! 10000% recommended.

The tour was really great! Learn about the vineyards, different types of wine & how they’re made. We did the 3 wines tour & had white, rose and red! They were fantastic - rose was my favourite! It was accompanied by a cheese board with some local cheeses & dips. Was a great experience and Carlota was a great guide! Thanks guys!

We've had a wine tasting plus vineyard tour and it was exceptional. The people working there are super friendly, enthousiastic about wine-making and knowledgable. One of the highlights of my trip to Gran Canaria. Informative tour of the vineyard, host was very friendly and knowledgeable. Wine at the end was very good and a lovely selection of cheese and olives to finish. Would recommend booking a tour here if you are in the area
Vik D — Google review
The trip out here was perfect, and I would come back, but without a car or tour bus, it might be tough to get to. I am not sure if you can take the bus up here as this vineyard, Bodega Los Lirios is located at the Bandama Volcano just south of Las Palmas and coming from Maspalomas it was a trip worth it. This is a family-owned vineyard and it has been there for generations that does tapas and they produce white wine and red wine. Lucky us as on our tour we were told that the vineyard only produces 300 bottles of white wine a year. And we were lucky enough to have one. I did end up loving the variety of red wines they had for quite cheap too for a glass (worth the price for a bottle as well). We had probably every dish they offer there as it was part of a tour deal we had. A few of their dishes were tasty, the ones that I did not like was cold fish, wish in general I am not a fan of. I did try it, was worth the experience and am happy to try. But would probably stick to their stews, potatoes mojo sauce. Not only lots of food and tasty local wine but also, we were so lucky to have these great artists playing which created a fantastic atmosphere. They made the afternoon great as they sang great, took a few song requests and just in general were so positive and fun. It did help that the lead singer was half Welsh, so she was able to sing in both Spanish and English which was nice. However, the vineyard venue has a different artist there each week, I think. Moving on to the venue is an open space venue that serves great foods and lots of tasty red wines. If you drink the wine there you must have the “abecado” or Llantén Tinto Crianza 2018 and have to order a few of their delicious tapas. Most of their meals are meat-based so it might not be the best place to eat for vegans. Even without going on a tour, you can go and look at the vineyard but of course, don’t go picking up grapes if they are in season. The staff here were kind and friendly. There is also a parking space there if you want to drive up. Also, other local businesses are outside so you can buy more than just wine there. Check out their website for more things you can do at their venue such as a photoshoot, picnic, meal and wine dining experience.
Nicholai M — Google review
Just a wonderful experience! I highly recommend the tour but even just for some homemade lunch and trying the different lovely wines it's 100% worth spending here a Sunday afternoon. The family is always available for questions and more information, too. We'll be back for sure!

During our stay on Gran Canaria we wanted to do a bit of shopping and found the options in Puerto rico a bit limited. So after looking at some reviews, we decided to take the 1 hour drive to Las Palmas to visit this shopping mall. It was definitely better than the one in Puerto Rico and looked very cool with its architectural design but for shopping, it was a bit of a let down. Maybe we are spoilt by mainland cities and towns in Europe but we just found that most of the shops (including big brands) were a bit small meaning a limited range on offer. I would say that if you are staying locally, then it is worth a visit but wouldn't suggest that it makes sense to travel across the island for it. Does offer free parking though.

The Teatro Cuyas is a theater in the Canary Islands that features some of the best national and international productions in all the disciplines of performing arts each season. The theater is well kept and clean, has good acoustics, and is organised well.
In one word, outstanding. This theatre is genuinely one of the very best on the island, honestly outstanding. It might not seem like the most elegant one -there's the regal Pérez Galdós Theatre for that-, but it does do the job. It hosts all kind of plays, musicals, graduations, ceremonies, etc. The teatre staff is very professional and they do get involved with whatever they are hosting. Truly remarkable. Seats are very comfortable and there's three levels of them (pit, 2 amphitheatres), ensuring nice visibility from almost any seat. The theatre has adapted to the pandemic accordingly, and they even were one of the first venues to reopen once restrictions were relieved.

The drums (with a barrier facing the orchestra reflecting the sound back to the audience, in addition to the amplified sound of the microphones) and Take 6's vocals were too loud, drowning out the orchestra. The piano could be heard, probably only on stage, and the orchestra's instruments were indistinguishable. At first, between the orchestra, the vocals, the drums, and the electric bass, the noise was so deafening that I almost left. Perhaps the stage isn't big enough for so many players crammed into such a small space, or perhaps the sound technician didn't adjust the volume properly?

:) Could be the best kids park in the city! Night or Day. New equipment installed and ready this April 2021. The old pirate ship kids play area is now a big pirates ship play area. Nice as well are the new kids park boundary posts. Good for attaching an umbrella and keeping it in place in the wind. More shade now for kids under the park structure. Still missing is shade for parents and public bathrooms within short walking distance. Access possible for wheelchair users. Could still easily make this park way bigger except it is just right for the lack of washrooms making turnover happen more often. Shower and foot wash station right beside park. Swing set is a bit of distance for viewing and separated by constant walking traffic coming from the beach or onto the beach down the steps and past the shower / foot wash area. Better would be to move the swings over from the foot wash however this would mean moving the wheelchair swing as well. Needs bicycle parking stations as well. So again missing at the moment is water fountains, free public washrooms nearby, shaded seating - especially for when grandparents watch kids, and swing sets not separated by the shower foot wash area. City could easily add a lifeguard station and washroom complex here. And include bicycle parking. Great park that could be greater. Nestled in the heart of Teror, the Palacio Episcopal Teror stands as a testament to the town's rich history and architectural beauty. This iconic bishops' palace, located just behind the Basilica on Plaza de la Alameda, was gifted by locals to Bishops Moran and Delgado in appreciation for their role in constructing the grand basilica. The left wing of this stunning structure dates back to 1760-1767, coinciding with the basilica's construction period.
An Old Episcopal Palace is another sample of symbolic and memory of history in Villa Mariana de Teror. There is a high probability that Episcopal Palace was built in the same period as Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino (circa A.D 1876) or a little bit later. Currently, houses the parish office and a Cultural Centre. Architecture worth to see. I did a glimpse and photo in January 2015.

Beautiful building that is now a cultural centre and part of it used to house local temporary exhibitions by local artists. We visited on a Sunday and it was shut so walked around the outside. Only didn’t give more stars as we didn’t get to see inside. There are some very stunning trees outside too (see photos)

(Translated by Google) The Plaza de Teror is the nerve center of the town. From it you can see the typical balconies of Canarian architecture that adorn a large part of the municipality. La Alameda is another of the busiest places, in the historic center of the town. Its origin dates back to an esplanade located in front of the Episcopal Palace, in 1793. The prelates of the Diocese resided in this Palace, today a House of Culture that hosts temporary exhibitions. Near the Basilica is the Plaza Teresa de Bolívar, renovated in the 1950s, and where you can see a bust of the liberator Simón Bolívar.

(Translated by Google) The Episcopal Palace, rehabilitated as the House of Culture and located in Pio XII Square, was the summer residence of the bishops. It is a building built in two moments of the 19th century, first the north wing and the doorway and, later, around 1867, the other body. Nestled in the heart of El Risco, Charco Azul is a hidden gem that beckons adventurers with its stunning natural pool and waterfall. To reach this serene spot, take a leisurely stroll through the village and up the valley. The hike to Charco Azul is relatively short at about 3.23 km, making it accessible for most visitors. While some parts may require a bit of climbing and navigating through overgrown paths, it's an enjoyable trek that rewards you with breathtaking views.
A short but beautiful hike that we can absolutely recommend. Requires a little bit of climbing and good shoes, but its not hard at all. Just make sure you go to the very end, some people may turn around to early thinking there is no waterfall altough there might be one... We saw it and loved it. For us the hike was 3,23 km long with approx. 1 hour in motion, starting from the parking lot in town.

Today’s disappointment: after a two-hour journey to get here, we found a dry valley. Although the river valley is beautiful with its deep canyon, rocky terrain, and tall grass that make for some nice photos, that’s about all there is to see. From the parking area near the neighborhood, there’s a 20-minute walk, as the entrance is closed to non-locals. If you’re hoping to see a waterfall, you’ll need to wait for heavy rain; otherwise, you’ll just find a small puddle.
Edgars M — Google review
The hike to Charco Azul was beautiful, but the waterfall was completely dry and the water not at all azul :( I highly recommend it though, but check online its status before going there, that way you won’t get disappointed.
Ioana N — Google review
Nice hike and waterfall. No hiking footwear necessary, but some kind of trainers would be recommend. You have to park in El Risco (very limited parking spaces) and walk up, it takes roughly 30-40 minutes to hike to the waterfall. Bring your own water as the store in El Risco is really overpriced.
Mike N — Google review
If you’re getting around Charco Azul in August with your swimmer consider there’s no lake and no waterfall. Only rocks 😅
Davide A — Google review
Beautiful hike, especially early in the morning when it's cool and empty. The water was still beautiful despite the lack of 'azul' due to the heat and dryness. Refreshing swim. I recommend! It's a beautiful little spot. However, if you are taking the bus, be sure not to get stranded as it only passes every few hours.
Amy L — Google review
In November 2025, there were no big waterfalls, only a small river.
Ágota B — Google review
Very disappointed from the “real” aspect of this cascade. Where all of the internet pictures are photoshopped. The hike from the village is only 30min long and very easy. Quite nice scenery overall and sadly a busy place, with families, kids and pets.

El Hombre beach, although lacking public facilities such as toilets, drinking fountains, and shade, is a lovely and clean location with limited wheelchair accessibility. It offers only one shower and lifeguards are not consistently present. The beach provides great surfing opportunities for those who possess the necessary ability, mobility, skill, and equipment. Furthermore, the entire area boasts a beautiful walkway. The beach features stunning dark sand that is incredibly soft to the touch.
The beach is equiped with a shower at the entrance. There is sand, which is clean, fine and dark. Waves and currents were pretty atrong when we were there. Waves were used by surfers, but shallow parts can be used also for jumping and splashing in the waves, just be carefull about those currents. Place is also well suited for taking pictures with romantic background.
Vojta Š — Google review
Beautiful beach with dark and very soft sand! Quite dangerous for swimming but good for some surfing and perfect to relax, some yoga and take some photos. The water temperature is very pleasant

A beach of the rare kind. Volcano sand, soft and different from other parts of Europe. Sertainly worth a visit. Good place if having small children. Off course; the ocean is a dangerous place to encounter if not able to swim 😉. Sometimes the conditions for surfing is nice. Have a lovely time and take good care 💚
