Restaurant
Restaurante Lá ao Fundo is a must-visit in Funchal's Old Town, offering a unique gastronomic experience with its fusion of Mediterranean, European, Portuguese, and modern cuisine. The restaurant boasts a welcoming and laid-back ambiance that makes diners feel at home.
This was the last restaurant we ate at in Maderia and to our aurprise it was By far the best restaurant we ate in Madeira. All the places we ate at were good, but this one was beyond expectations. The mix of Portugese, Indian, and African flavors made every entree we ordered exquisite. Our family was so satisified with the meal that we decided to skip our dinner so we could savor and enjoy this meal longer. We loved every place we ate in Maderia, but this place I will absolutely come back to. We enjoyed the sea bass stew with red rice, the sea bream, tuna tartar

Guys, it’s amazing! Best what we tested in Madeira in a week. Very tasty, very well served. Reasonable price, a bit higher than average. Try whatever they propose you! All the food was great!!!
Alex E — Google review
Good food. Complimentary Thai fish soup is pretty good. Some interesting fusion dish. Huge portion for the mains. The special dessert is pretty nice, light and fresh. Service is great.
Smilynn Z — Google review
Fantastic place to eat if you have no teeth! The service is total overkill, too many waiters for a single table never saw the face twice. I ordered ham,egg and chips as per the menu when it arrived the man proceeded to dice up my meal into baby food right in front of me (it would have been quicker if he just used a blender!) When someone asked me how my food was and I complained he proceeded to tell me “that’s how its ment to be served, would you like a desert” Won’t be returning in a hurry
Megan H — Google review
Higher-end restaurant with a corresponding higher price-tag. Nice setting in "downtown" area - the place to be for an evening out. Many high quality dishes. Still, some smaller hiccups: the didn't ask how to cook the tuna and the risotto was not creamy but a bit watery. Therefore, "only" 4 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟
Al H — Google review
One of the best restaurants in Madeira. Jaime and his brother Mario run it smoothly and kindly, always trying to fit in last minute parties even though it's normally fully booked. Sitting outside is nice and calm, menu is very different with colorful and tasty creations with African and Indian influence, combined with traditional classics like steak on a hot rock. Tartars - steak or fresh tuna - are a must, as Jaime does them live for all to see.
DJ — Google review
Excellent food with a sort of fusion concept. We had a tuna tartare to start off which was served on poppadoms. Then we had a Mozambique style prawn curry which was delicious but I was slightly outraged there were only 3 prawns swimming in a pool of curry. The samosas for starters were also very tasty. Restaurant tries to be more upscale which was nice. However one of the waitresses was particularly rude along the night. Enjoyed and would return; a nice change to typical Madeiran food. Paid 40€ per person for starters, main and drinks which was very decent.
Nico M — Google review
A bit wannabe chique but not quite there. Food is good but not as varied as it sounds. We loved it the first time but then ordered a different dish the second time and the flavors were pretty much the same. Still good though! Just not worth the high price per dish. Great portions and nice staff. Note to the management: never tell off your staff in front of a room of people. Highly contrasting with the mood the restaurant wants to have. It's bad. Either do it somewhere else or talk quieter. Besides, what's the point of having dishes off the menu if they're always the same?

Located in Funchal, Portugal, Akua is a renowned dining spot celebrated for its exceptional seafood. Chef Julio Pereira showcases his innovative take on Portuguese flavors with dishes like fried codfish tacos, white fish ceviche, and mussels in Jaipur sauce. The restaurant has garnered praise and was honored with a Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award. Additionally, it is featured on the menus of popular local establishments such as Gaviao Novo and La ao Fundo.
This is the second restaurant in Madeira that I highly recommend. I skipped their main and tried most of their appetizers/starters. They were so good that I kept ordering different ones and filled myself up with just those. All the starters has a balanced flavor profile except the dessert. The dessert had a lot going on. It was good but too complex and very rich. Overall this meal was a solid bang for the buck. The group seated next to me was revisiting the restaurant after trying it the day before- that is how much they loved it and I get it. I highly recommend.

Last minute reservation and sat at the Chef’s table and had a fun dinner. Amazing watching the chef work and orchestrate his masterpieces. Loved it all! Had shrimp curry in a decadent curry sauce, fresh bread to eat the sauce! Shared a 2 pp grouper over seafood rice. The grouper was plentiful and so yummy. Such a great vibe! A must try!

We didn't have a reservation but our tour guide recommended this place which was right behind our hotel. They were super busy but the hostess, Raquel, still accommodated us. We tried their 5 course menu for two. It was amazing!! The hostess made the experience so fantastic! One of the dishes had shellfish which I can't have and when she heard this she went to the chef and made a special one just for me. These people are really hardworking and will go above and beyond to make sure their customers have a great time and enjoy their food. I travel all around the world and I would say this place was one of the best restaurants I've been to! Def check them out if you're in the area!

Excellent dinner for solo traveler. Reservation made through google. Was seated at bar in front of head chef. Was able to view the kitchen action. Staff were attentive and friendly. They were able to accommodate the shareable starter plates for one. Food was excellent. I’d recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Funchal.

This was one of my favourite meals while I was in Madeira! It was recommended to me by a tour guide and I am so happy I went! I had a cod fish taco, braised tuna with risotto and caramel bananas with ice cream. Everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Their house wine was awesome and my server told me that it is made at a vineyard on the island and it is made specifically for them, you can't get it anywhere else! How cool! I was solo travelling so they were able to squeeze me in but I would recommend making a reservation!

Amazing experience!!! Loved all the dishes ❤️ It was really great that for starters I can take half of a dish, so I was able to try more of this great cuisine. Sitting on the chef’s table and seeing kitchen’s work - 🥰 To start I had tuna tartare, ceviche, prawns, for the main - tuna belly steak, everything cooked to perfection!
Viktorija Ž — Google review
The food and wine are excellent — we really liked the food a lot. The only thing I didn’t like is that the restaurant is run like a machine; it feels more about efficiency than about the food or the experience. Everything moves very quickly and it’s pretty hectic. For example, I hadn’t even sat down fully before they asked if I wanted some water. They also emphasized that we had only two hours to eat, even though we didn’t end up taking a full hour. That said, the staff became noticeably friendlier toward the end, which made the experience a bit more pleasant.

We came here for our last dinner on Madeira and we didn't regret it. The food was perfect and the service excellent. Especially Angi did a really good job and made us feel super comfortable and welcome. We recommend the Classic Menu and then the Codfish tacos again (which we did order additionally, because they were so great). We are from Berlin and we think this 150€ menu (including wine and water) was better than most of the 300€ menus we get at home. We would not be surprised if Akua's efforts for higher awards will succeed 😉

Il Gallo D'Oro is a renowned fine dining restaurant located in The Cliff Bay hotel in Funchal, Madeira. This upscale establishment has been awarded two Michelin stars and is celebrated as the best restaurant on the island and even throughout Portugal at times. Specializing in Iberian Cuisine, Il Gallo D'Oro prides itself on using locally sourced produce to ensure the freshness and quality of its dishes.
We had a dinner, birthday celebration. It was absolutely amazing and extremelly good food. Just the different and sophisticated tastes. Great service, nice view on the ocean and were having a wonderfull evening - no stress, relaxing, enjoying. Thank you for this event

The best experience in Portugal! It’s really a big surprise to find such unusual combination of flavors, all dishes of degustation menu are wow! To see, to taste, to enjoy. 🤩

A 2-star Michelin restaurant right by the water with the most stunning view. The service was absolutely sublime – we never once lacked anything at the table, and the entire team was warm, attentive, and smiling throughout. The food itself was an unforgettable journey: 11 courses, two appetizers, the signature petits fours, and even an extra dessert to celebrate a birthday. The wine pairing was excellent, and their drinks (especially the gin & tonics) are also highly recommended. Truly an experience we will never forget. A must if you’re looking for an extraordinary evening with world-class food.

I had an absolutely outstanding dinner at Il Gallo d’Oro last night! Every dish was a masterpiece — beautifully presented, full of flavor, and perfectly balanced. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere made the whole experience feel truly special. What really stood out was the exceptional wine selection. The restaurant offers an impressive range of world-class wines as well as many fantastic local options, allowing you to explore the richness of regional flavors alongside international classics. Il Gallo d’Oro is without a doubt a top-tier dining destination — a perfect blend of elegance, creativity, and authenticity. Highly recommended for anyone who loves fine dining and great wine!

We had a wonderful experience at Il Gallo d’Oro. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The service was attentive and warm, and the view is absolutely exceptional — truly one of the highlights. The only small recommendation would be to slightly increase the portion sizes; we chose the 8-course menu and, while every dish was fantastic, we didn’t feel completely full by the end. Other than that, everything was perfect. Very convenient to access as we stayed in the hotel. I’d definitely recommend booking in advance — we reserved our table at the same time we booked our hotel, which worked out really well
Clariss C — Google review
When you dine at a Michelin starred restaurant, you expect the food to be perfect, the service to be impeccable and ambiance to be conducive to a world-class fine dining experience! At the Gallo d'Oro those expectations are fulfilled, but they are the bare minimum! For the money you pay for the tasting menu with the fine wine pairing; you demand theatre! You demand an unforgettable experience! You want to be able to say that it was worth it! Il Gallo d'Oro is theatre! It was unforgettable! And it was worth it!
Gerry M — Google review
Best food we’ve had in Madeira! They could be more local (did not expect coq au vin 😁) but besides that it was an amazing experience! They even went out of their way to get me some ponchas which were not on the menue. View was superb as well and we almost felt bad for not staying in that hitel i stead ❤️
Zan M — Google review
This was my first time eating at a Michelin star restaurant and it did not disappoint! The taste and presentation of the food was beyond my expectations, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. There was one negative though, and I think it came down to lack of communication/transparency about drink prices. We were asked if we wanted to start the meal with a glass of champagne, and it turned out that the two glasses were over €50 each. If we knew the price of that glass, we would asked for a comparable alternative rather than saying yes. But overall we really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant and the chef was very nice!

Armazém do Sal is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Funchal, Portugal, housed within a former salt warehouse. The restaurant boasts an inviting ambiance with wooden beams and stone walls. It offers a small but dedicated vegan menu featuring three main dishes including soya moussaka with roasted aubergine, lentil salad with roasted vegetables, and barley salad with caramelized baby vegetables.
Had a lovely meal with the family while on vacation. There was live saxophone music with classics like Your Song and Yesterday. The food was terrific, and we chose the perfect wine pairing—surprisingly affordable too. The waiter was a little too attentive with refilling our water and wine glasses ;) just two sips and they were topped up again. But overall, it was all very nice, tastefully and friendly.

Fantastic. Visiting from London / South East UK, and pleased to say our palates were well looked after. Surprised to see someone describe it as horrendous, that feels harsh and unnecessary tbh ! We had one Fish Lover and one Meat Lover set, with a wine pairing for the meat. Sat outside. Lovely staff, and the live guitarist was perfect background to a thoughtful and genuinely tasty meal Had booked thru Google Maps, having experienced issues with Open Table. Only nudge is that the veg’s probably could be tidied up in prep, but the laminated menus, signage from the street and overall branding could do with a refresh to better reflect the quality of the experience !
T — Google review
The service was top notch. The cooking was perfect and I didn't see any faults with it. I just didn't love my meal. I think it's one of those times where you didn't order the best option off the menu for yourself lm
Duane B — Google review
Credit where credit is due: the service here is absolutely amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and genuinely make you feel valued – 10/10 for the team. Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment and, for us, the single underwhelming dining experience we’ve had in Madeira so far. The fact they were on Michelin Guide will certainly mislead you into thinking you’re going to have an amazing meal. • Couvert: The bread and focaccia were served cold, not even at room temperature, and the butter portion was so small it was barely enough for one person, let alone to share. • Appetizers: We ordered beef tartare and ceviche. Both dishes were bland and lacked basic seasoning. The tartare felt like had not even salt or pepper, making it feel like eating raw meat straight from the butcher. The ceviche was completely overpowered by purée and sorbet, masking the fish flavor and textures entirely. • Main dishes: We had the prawn risotto and the cheeks. Both were “okay,” but had we skipped the starters, we might have been less disappointed. The risotto had plenty of prawns and decent flavor, but the rice was far too wet. The cheeks were tender, but the sides were plain, and the mashed potatoes had a taste that simply wasn’t for us. In short, while the service is exceptional, the food quality does not match the prices charged and let my wife and I very disappointed. For half of the price you can easily enjoy far better meals, with amazing views, elsewhere in Madeira. Can’t recommend a visit here.
Fernando C — Google review
Everywhere around the islands, people are very kind. Here the staff's hospitality is above and beyond. It's a weird alley, but please enter and book a table here. You won't be disappointed.
Kalum O — Google review
We had a fab experience here. They catered for my wife’s allergy needs 100%. Lovely people looking after us, lovely surroundings, lovely live music in the background.

Second time coming here. The first time (jan 2024) the tasting menu was fantastic, so I wanted to take my girlfriend. This time round the menu had changed significantly and was rather disappointing. However, the wine pairing was incredible and helped mask this. The staff were very nice, although the service could have been better. Also, please be aware that they don’t take amex. Would still highly recommend! - but please sort out the tasting menu and get an amex card reader

Kampo by Chef Julio Pereira is a modern restaurant with outdoor seating and an open kitchen, offering sustainable and elevated dishes. Located in Funchal, Portugal, the restaurant provides a unique dining experience with a focus on seafood and meatier options. Chef Julio Pereira's creative menu includes fish charcuterie boards, braised tuna with razor clam rice, grouper carpaccio with nori, as well as other innovative dishes.
We booked the restaurant and very happy with the service. We had restricted vegetarian dietary and the restaurant made our dining experience very smooth and attention to detail. We had mushrooms, seaweed rice and grill vegetables for our vegetarian friends. We also had the Ox belly tacos, Tbone steaks and chips on the side. All of our dishes are delicious with Dark chocolate desserts. Thank you for your lovely service. We had an amazing time.
M K — Google review
This upmarket restaurant offers both à la carte and a chef’s sharing menu. We opted for the latter. The tuna course was a bit on the strong, fishy side for our taste and, unfortunately, contained a small scale. The second dish was pleasant, though the many components made it hard to identify each element. The absolute highlight of the evening was the oxtail – beautifully cooked, with a rich, flavorful sauce, well-prepared vegetables, and smooth mashed potatoes. Truly excellent! Dessert combined white chocolate, passionfruit, brownie, and a black olive sauce. The olive pairing wasn’t to our taste, though that may be personal preference. If the dishes were refined a touch more and the presentation elevated, this place could really shine. Service was friendly and attentive, the pacing of the dinner was spot-on, and the atmosphere was lovely. 📍 Tip: Situated right in the center of Funchal. If you’d like to explore it for yourself, make a reservation in advance.

I’m absolutely thrilled! A must-visit place for dinner. The whole chain of these restaurants is great, but we chose this one for our last evening in Madeira — and it was the perfect decision. There were five of us, and my friend and I ordered the “To Share” menu for two — six dishes for €98. I can’t even describe how delicious and satisfying it was. Each dish was unique in presentation, balance, and taste. For that price, such a tasting menu for two is truly exceptional. Thank you for the perfect ending to our vacation!

Incredible food, great value for money and fantastic service. Really recommend Kampo! Absolutely loved the steak tartar, the oxtail tacos and the oxtail ravioli! Our waiter was so helpful, teaching us about Madeira wine and giving us recommendations for what would pair well with our food! Such a great experience, would definitely go back again!

My partner and I visited this restaurant three times within a single week — and for good reason. The overall experience was consistently excellent. I ordered the beef burger with foie gras, which was outstanding: perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully balanced. As a starter, we shared a tuna tartare that was truly exceptional — fresh, refined, and expertly seasoned. When we first arrived without a reservation, we were asked to wait at the bar. The host handled the situation with remarkable professionalism and kindness, and we were seated within about twenty minutes. The cocktails were also excellent, crafted with real attention to detail. Overall, an exceptional dining experience — both in terms of food and service. Highly recommended
Luca H — Google review
The place was just okay. It was quite noisy, and the steak was overcooked (asked for medium, but it came closer to well done), and the meat quality could be better. The ravioli was actually very good. Overall, it’s not a bad place — worth visiting once, but not something I’d rush back to.
David B — Google review
We were sat at the bar top where the chefs prepare the food which was amazing. It was great to see how much compassion the workers have into making and preparing the food. The food itself was pretty good. We got the dry aged ribeye to split. We asked for medium, but came out a bit more rare, it was very good either way. The steak came with fries, a tomato and onion salad, and pickles. The service was ok. The hostess did mention that I had a birthday, The waitress did not which is ok But still would’ve been nice since it was on the reservation. No birthday dessert or option was offered, but I do realize a lot of places don’t do it so that is not taking away from the rating. The hostess and bussers were fabulous and nice But the waitress had an attitude the entire time and was very confusing. She first Was upset that we weren’t ordering an appetizer and saying we would be hungry and was trying to push bread on us and then after when we wanted to ribeye, she was pushing for us to only get one due to the size and that we would be too full(Which was fine because it was big and we saved money but we easily could’ve finished two) And then once we picked one dinner, she then was upset we didn’t order an appetizer again. It might just be her personality, but a bit more hospitality goes a long way. We were uncomfortable after the initial interaction And had no interest in ordering a dessert after(which she also was upset over). Overall, great atmosphere and food, just not great server. Ps we got the mango mojito and cinnamon Caipirinha were both good and reasonably priced.

Prima Caju is a restaurant in Funchal that offers a menu filled with nutritious options without compromising on taste. The establishment is known for its contemporary atmosphere, complete with hanging plants from the ceiling. It's located in the Caju Le Petit Hotel and offers a variety of dishes such as acai bowls, oatmeal pancakes, eggs served with toast and salad, savory bowls, salads, wraps, and smoothies.
We actually had breakfast twice here because we loved it so much the first time. The restaurant offers great breakfast and lunch options with a cozy atmosphere. The fresh orange juice was absolutely amazing. And I also loved the different vegan options. For me the vegan scrambled eggs on garlic bread were just so good. I inly wish the extra price for oat milk ( + 1€) was a bit less.

An overall disappointing experience. The place is pleasant and nicely decorated, but that remains the only real positive. I ordered scrambled eggs with vegan parmesan (with a €4 surcharge) — they were decent, but nothing exceptional — and I was left with the impression of an unfinished dish. Portions are small, prices are high for what is offered, and the rather noisy atmosphere makes it difficult to fully enjoy the moment

Really liked the place! The food was very delicious and the design is very cute. Instagram worthy place for sure. Sad we discovered it only on our last day before the flight.

Such a nice place! The menu is interesting and not ordinary at all, yet you will have no problems feeding kids here. The service is very good, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I will gladly come back. Thank you for our amazing lunch!

Beautiful place that is neglected by its employees. Poached eggs took over 25 mins when at the time only a couple and I were waiting for their order(wasn’t busy). Eggs were way overcooked, could not be considered poached. FOH staff was chilling and gossiping in the bar, never came by to check on the food. Shame

Service was not great, our waitress didn’t check on us not even once. Not very warm and welcoming. The food was very bland. The natural juice wasn’t great either. Also very expensive for what you’re getting.

I had marked this forever on my list of new places to try when we walked in here one morning. The menu for breakfast consists of two pages, so it’s not too overwhelming. Our whole family was quickly able to find something that sounded good. As many reviewers have stated, the coffee here comes from a Nespresso machine. While this in itself does not present as a problem, the missing expertise in preparing the milk foam is unfortunate. If I pay 1,5€ for plant milk then I also expect the person behind the counter to be able to foam it correctly. The coffee itself was not unpalatable. It was okay - but nothing more than that, not calling for a second order and certainly not worth a price of 4,9 Euros for a decaf oat galao. Breakfast arrived after a bit of waiting and was good. The poached eggs come from either a silicone or metal form, so they are not poached in water directly. I didn’t like the fact that the bacon that the cafe charged 1 Euro per slice for was the typical Madeiran style. For that price I would suggest using the real deal with a better quality. It’s also in my opinion quite steep to pay 3 Euros for a cha de limao. Service was friendly and everyone spoke very good English. My family left quite happy and satiated. Don’t come here for the coffee if you are a coffee nerd. Otherwise, it’s quite a nice place, if the prices are okay for you.

Restaurant
Restaurante do Forte is a dining establishment located within the historic Sao Tiago Fortress, offering a unique and memorable experience. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu featuring both local and international dishes, with spectacular views of the harbor adding to the ambiance. The setting within the 17th-century fortress creates an elegant atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for a special evening out.
What a charming experience. We got a reservation no problem, the restaurant filled up later but never got too crowded. Our server Leo, was very attentive and had a great personality. Sofia was also excellent. The food was timed well and the wines paired nicely. We did the 9 course meal and when they say “drinks included” they really mean it. The wine was flowing and we left in very good spirits. The chef personally brought out the entrees and he was also excellent and we enjoyed his visits as well.

My wife took a shine to this place when we'd visited the fort previously so we took the 'Golden' package to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The promise of travelling to and from our hotel in a 1932 Austin 12 was quite appealing and the driver on the way to the restaurant was terrific. The African staff were delightful but it all started to go wrong with my wife's 'adapted' gluten-free starter of grilled fois-gras which was shockingly inedible and could hardly be described as food! Service between courses was slow but main courses were reasonable if not spectacular. I was told upon booking that the chef would adapt dishes to suit my wife's coeliac disease. Of all the desserts on offer, only a chocolate pudding was considered suitable. My wife hates chocolate pudding and even I couldn't help her finish it! All this for €220! We couldn't even get a return trip in the Austin as no driver was available. We returned by taxi. Not the romantic event we expected and certainly not worth the cost. We live and learn (where not to eat). Disappointing.

Honestly I had high hopes for this place but their server wasn’t well versed in the menu and doesn’t understand what food restrictions means. Their tasting menu is very rigid and cannot be tailored to food restrictions. When our food restrictions were clearly stated, the server failed to tell us that the lamb dish is wrapped in our restrictions after saying it multiple times that we cannot have this item and the menu didn’t have it written. The food is mediocre at best. I don’t recommend this place if your expectation is a fancy well done restaurant and the cost isn’t justified.

A beautiful place to have a treat meal. The service was great, not too much or too little. Scallops we're perfect, bit the main meal in my opinion was under seasoned. But overall I had a lovely meal.

This place has really gone downhill over the years. I went last week for dinner with my boyfriend, and both the food and service left us disappointed. The gambas were fine, the cod was delicious, but the desserts were awful, especially the creme brulee (do yourself a favor and skip it). Overall, the meal was nowhere near worth the 50€. The service was messy and unprepared from the start. We were first handed sticky, oily menus in French and German, even though we had clearly asked for a table in English. Only later did we receive equally sticky English menus. When it came to the wine, things got even worse. The staff only brought one type (white or red) at a time, as if we’d both ordered the same, leaving one of us waiting while they fetched the other bottle. To make matters worse, the white wine wasn’t chilled at all, it hadn’t even seen the inside of a fridge. At the end of the meal, my boyfriend’s glass of wine was taken away along with the plates, even though we had just asked for another round. It’s a shame, because the setting is beautiful and inviting, but the poor service and uneven food quality make it impossible to recommend. Definitely not worth the price.

We visited 14th September, we booked the golden package. The entire experience was wonderful from getting picked up in the classic car, eating excellent food with great service to a drive around funchal before being dropped back at the hotel. The dining experience was fantastic, the food and wine selection was of a high quality with each course complimenting the wine. We have a view out to sea through an old cannon emplacement. Every member of staff was friendly and welcoming. I can't fault it, it will be something to remember for a long time

I was looking for a special place to celebrate my man’s birthday and our last evening in Madeira – and after trying so many restaurants on the island in a week, that all felt quite similar, this was by far the best choice I could have made! I booked the same day for the evening and was lucky enough to get the exact table I had spotted in photos before :) We went for the 9-course gourmet tasting menu with drinks included (I think it was unlimited – our glasses were never empty! Champagne, rosé, white, red… even one or two liqueurs at the end – I lost count!). It was such a great decision – I’ll say it again: we absolutely loved it! The service and staff were amazing – cheerful, kind, and attentive. The table set up - beautiful! The dishes were absolutely delicious, and the chef came out a few times himself to present them – a lovely touch! The weather and the view were perfect, and the music added to the whole atmosphere. A truly unique setting, completely different from the touristy places just a few steps away. In short – whether it's for a special occasion or just to treat yourself to a magical evening, it’s so worth it! Huge thanks to the whole team – you made our evening unforgettable!

Restaurante Mozart in Funchal offers a culinary experience that is like a symphony for your taste buds. The menu combines local traditions and European cuisines, with dishes named after famous composers. For example, you can try the Beethoven (octopus carpaccio) as an appetizer and then savor the Tchaikovsky (duck breast with citrus sauce) as your main course.
The food is tasty and very well presented. Portions are good and the prices are reasonable for Funchal. The waiters sometimes misunderstand English and don't always get the orders quite right, but that's part of the charm. The only real disappointment was the poor choice for vegetarians, but that's been an issue at other restaurants too.

Plain and simple: one of the best restaurants in Funchal! Please, go there before it gets the first Michelin star. The location is perfect, in the heart of the Old City. The design really is high-class Austrian aristocracy. The service is impeccable. The food is out of this world: the best pork cheeks and the best octopus! The presentation beats a Michelin restaurant! Please, go there and enjoy! Did I mention the complimentary champagne and the live music?

We booked Mozart for our wedding anniversary and we had the most amazing night. The restaurant decor is slightly quirky but totally in tune with the wonderful atmosphere. We had the set menu which meant we could choose all the courses from the al acarte menu. The food was delicious and well cooked and presented. The drinks were unlimited and our glasses were always full. The staff are incredible. So friendly and attentive. Simon the head waiter looked after us so well. When we come back to Madeira this fantastic restaurant will be first on our list. And a real extra surprise in the bathroom!!

Overall a very good experience! We were coerced to have a seat at the restaurant. So we weren’t sure what to expect. It is for tourists, no mistake about it. However, we have been positively surprised. Everything was great. The service was excellent. The food also. The wine recommendation was perfect. Don’t let yourself get put off, if the waiter asks you to dine at this place. The scabbard as well as the sea bass is highly recommended. Enjoy your time there. 35 Euros per person including a bottle of wine and a shared starter.

Quirky place but the staff have a great sense of humour and are very welcoming. Brilliant pianist and violinist playing this evening made it even more memorable. Great food, every course top quality and beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend Mozart’s - we will be back.

It's all about the €55 set menu! It's basically an all-inclusive dream: endless wine, extra courses, coffee, and even a dessert Madeira wine. The food quality is excellent, truly exceeding expectations for the price. The staff are super fun with a great sense of humor, and the atmosphere is lively and busy. We left incredibly impressed and highly recommend it, definitely a fantastic value and a memorable dining experience!

Combatentes is a no-nonsense, family-run restaurant that serves scabbardfish, espetada (barbecued beef on a skewer), lots of seafood and a couple of tasty vegetarian dishes. It has a simple dining room and is good for Portuguese wine lovers.
We turned up without a reservation early in the evening and were given a table on the understanding that it would be needed in an hour and a half. Not a problem for us, as we are fast eaters. We were lucky though, as we saw several people being turned away as they had not booked. The food was excellent, with lots of flavour, and was beautifully presented, and the staff were great too.

We arrived on spec without a reservation and were warmly accommodated - it was 27/03/25 so I'd suggest booking ahead if in peak season. This is a nice restaurant offering some nice food - 2 courses each with a decent bottle of wine came in at €95.50. The only down side is that bread is automatically brought to the table (as is normal and complimentary), but it's charged for and the charge isn't overly transparent.

We pinned this classy restaurant in Google maps based on the Pack the Suitcases travel blog (recommended). But we may not have actually dined there but for the fact that we stumbled upon the restaurant as we were exploring Funchal. Glad we did. We made a reservation for that same night, requesting the duece along the balcony railing. When we arrived at the appointed time, the table was waiting empty for us in a very full and busy restaurant. Thanks! This table really is the best in the house (for two people), but I must provide a warning. Other guests are dining directly below the railing. I was worried during the entire meal that we would accidentally knock our wine bottle or a full wine glass onto unsuspecting diners below. For the restaurant, I suggest providing helmets for guests at the lower-level tables, which would be in keeping with the restaurant’s name. 😀 Other than worrying about wine-bombing the table below, we had a delightful and excellent meal from a menu that is just as strong on both seafood and landfood, and the service was excellent. Restaurante O Portão is a charming culinary gem nestled in the heart of Funchal's Old Town, offering a delightful blend of seafood dishes and Mediterranean, European, and Portuguese cuisine. The restaurant prides itself on serving traditional Madeiran fare, with a focus on fresh, seasonal fish sourced from the catch of the day.
This is our favourite of the traditional Madeiran restaurants. Flambéed dishes are a speciality but honestly everything on the menu is delicious. It’s classic and homely but cooked to perfection. The staff are wonderfully welcoming, and there’s often football on the TV and lots of chatter adding to the relaxed atmosphere. Standout dishes for us are the prawns to start and the beef fillet to share for main.

An excellent experience in the heart of Funchal, on its most lively street. The espetada was excellent, well-cooked, and served with vegetables, while the scabbard fish fillet was moist and delicate, complemented by a delicious sauce. Restaurant
Ristorante Villa Cipriani in Funchal is a traditional Italian restaurant with a romantic ambiance and stunning sea views, making it perfect for special occasions. The alfresco terrace offers an idyllic setting to enjoy dishes like rosemary focaccia, carpaccio, eggplant parmigiana, tuna with sesame crust, and mixed grilled fish and seafood. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in their delicious cre brulee.
We have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions over the past five years but this was definitely the best meal to date. Even before we had our starters we got a tasty chickpea amuse bouche, bread sticks and some delicious black olive baguettes and tomato focaccia bread with tapenade, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We both chose the octopus salad for our starters - the octopus was so moist and beautifully cooked. For mains I had the turbot and my husband the sea bass accompanied by a side of seasonal vegetables- again presented with care, well seasoned and so tasty. The Portuguese wine we chose to accompany the meal, although not the most expensive, was perfect with it. For desserts I had the yuzu mousse and my husband the red berry tartlet. Again both delicious. To finish petit fours were served with our tea and coffee. A perfect meal. The restaurant was busy by the middle of the evening so the only slight criticism I would have was that it took time to attract the attention of waiters to have our water and wine served but the staff were very courteous.
Helene G — Google review
While the staff’s service was exceptional—attentive and professional—the food was a major disappointment. The portion sizes were unreasonably small for the prices charged. For instance, a €12 bruschetta was tiny, and the pasta I ordered was not only small but also bland and tasteless. Italian food is meant to be hearty and satisfying, but this was far from it. Although the service was outstanding, the food, which is the main reason to visit a restaurant, fell well short of expectations. A disappointing experience overall.

Exquisite views from their balcony overlooking the sea and the beautiful Reid’s hotel, and very kid-friendly, with healthy delicious options on the menu beyond just pasta. Our server Pedro was fantastic. The food came quickly and was delicious. (I had the Milanese with a side of grilled vegetables) Then gelato at the gelateria downstairs is a must! Pistacchio in particular is excellent.

I celebrated my birthday at Ristorante Villa Cipriani and it was absolutely unforgettable. The views are nothing short of breathtaking — truly one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever dined in. The service was warm, attentive, and made the evening feel extra special. For dinner, I had the pesto risotto with white wine, which was perfectly balanced and so flavorful. The lasagna was fresh, authentic, and honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. We finished with dessert that was just as incredible as the meal — the perfect ending to a perfect evening. Between the scenery, the service, and the food, Villa Cipriani made my birthday celebration magical. Highly recommend for anyone visiting!
Cindy L — Google review
First of all, this is NOT part of the official Cipriani chain which you may have heard of. In fact it’s a wannabe Italian restaurant with average food in my opinion. Here’s a few issues: -bread wasn’t fresh; wouldn’t call that focaccia and the olives in the olive bread tasted like plastic -pasta and gnocchi were overcooked -Parmesan was terrible, supermarket style -tiramisu no comment The parmigiana was the only thing I thought was half decent. But it’s just shocking in such a “high end” restaurant to serve fake Italian food. The view however is spectacular and the setting of the restaurant is dreamy.
Nico M — Google review
The restaurant has a fantastic position, overlooking the sea. It is really nice to eat outside in the evening. The service is very professional with good attention to customers, nothing unexpected for a restaurant inside a Belmond property. The restaurant offers a good Italian menu, dishes are well prepared, presented and of a good quality.
Luca — Google review
We have dined here many times over the last twenty or so years. It has formal feel to the restaurant though the staff are extremely friendly & make you feel relaxed. The food is excellent though we lost two of our favourite dishes when the menu was revamped a while ago. Both the Venetian Crab & the Rack of Lamb are sorely missed ☹️. We would definitely recommend an evening here, especially in the summer/autumn when the outside terrace is in use.

My family stayed at the hotel and we were able to walk in promptly at 7 P.M. and dine in. If you’re not staying at the hotel, please keep in mind that the restaurant prioritizes hotel guests from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M., so plan ahead and make a reservation a few days in advance. The restaurant is gorgeous and offers breathtaking views of the island. However, in my honest opinion, the food was underwhelming. Out of all the dishes my family tried, the gluten-free bolognese spaghetti was surprisingly the best. The chocolate dessert was just okay, but the mango and passion fruit panna cotta was amazing. The complimentary bread selection was great, with many delicious options to choose from. The service was top-notch. Overall, it's a decent Italian spot in Madeira.

In Funchal, the Allegro Madeira Adults Only hotel offers great value for money with its stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel's 124 bright rooms are decorated in blue tones and it is conveniently located close to the historic center and the area of Lido. Guests can enjoy traditional and international cuisine at the hotel's restaurant, as well as delicious cocktails at the Rooftop Bar 360 while taking in the horizon view.
Having been to Madeira many times and having walked past Atlantic, I decided to investigate as its not our usual type of restaurant. Why not? It's somewhere different, beautiful weather for eating outside and my birthday! We'd booked in advance and upon arrival was promptly seated, over looking the ocean, bliss! Our server was called Ricardo and he was welcoming, attentive and funny (just the right amount). We shared the alheria croquettes with mustard/honey sauce as a starter and oh wow, what a taste sensation that was! We've never had anything like that before and it was delicious. I finally settled on chicken with sautéed okra and hubby pork fillet. Both delicious dishes with tasty vegetables. I've never have a dessert but having read the reviews and feeling lovely and relaxed, I ordered the lemon meringue pie and hubby an irish coffee. Absolutely stunning dessert and I had it all to myself! A fantastic evening, delicious food, wonderful surroundings - we'll be back.

First went to this restaurant in 2012, back on the island and thought we'd revisit it. The food was amazing and the service excellent. We rocked up on a Saturday evening at 7:30 and we're able to get a table close to the cliff edge. We had a starter to share of Squid in a creamy honey sauce, for our mains we had a fish stew and fillet of sea bass with creamy polenta. We've been hear 9 nights eaten fish on 7, these were the best fish meals we had on the island!

July 2024 priced Best meal in Madeira so far! A little restaurant tucked out of the way off the main road. Reserve a table if you want the sea view seating. Very busy in the evenings, much calmer lunch time. Menu was of a good choice and reasonably priced. Knowledgeable staff who happily chatted to us about wines and the meal we were having. We chose excellent fish dishes, presented beautifully and very tasty. Sweet was pear cooked in red wine with ice cream and pear and apple crumble with ice cream. We shall certainly be returning there again. A good gastronomic experience at a reasonable cost.

Lovely views, great service and tasty food! A great menu for local cuisine. It is tasty and the restaurant is by the ocean so it has a wonderful atmosphere. Make sure to book in advance and ask for specifics if you want a table closest to the sea. As a gluten free person, I also felt happy and safe to eat here twice (I would have come here more if I knew about it sooner - it is quite a hidden gem!) The staff are very knowledgable on gluten free food, and are more than happy to check with the kitchen to ease your mind. They are also happy to make any necessary menu swaps!

Decent food, extensive wine list and traditional old fashioned service. All in all, a pretty good evening meal. It was like stepping back 100 years. This is a lovely old building reminiscent of what you might see in old films. The staff wear formal white uniforms and the main course arrives a under a silver dome. The menu is definitely 2020’s cafe/restaurant though. I started with a sea food salad that was good. Unusual in the amount of cockles - maybe thats a bit old fashioned too - but very pleasant and definitely large enough for lunch if you stop during the day. My main was a lasagne and was absolutely lovely. It tasted home made and, again, was a substantial helping. My wife ordered the grilled chicken. It came in a heavy cream sauce. Perfectly pleasant, but would have been an issue if you have allergies and thought you’d ordered grilled chicken. I don’t think it was our misreading the menu but would of course give the benefit of the doubt if challenged. I definitely did not need a desert but I love tiramisu and wasn’t disappointed. My wife had the apple strudel and says it tasted home made too. The wine list had something for everyone with wines from €22 per bottle to €975. I managed to find a very nice bottle for €38. Barreirinha Bar Café is a popular spot in Funchal, located just 4km outside of the town center. It offers a versatile experience, serving as a cafe during the day and transforming into a lively bar at night. The menu features easy-to-eat items such as burgers, sandwiches, burritos, and salads. The location on a hillside provides stunning views of the ocean from small outside tables on the terrace.
Loved this bar at the outskirts of Funchal old town - perfect view over the seaside, delicious prego sandwich and a great choice of really good drinks (especially the sangria rosé). Try the batata frita as a side with your mains - so good! If there’s a queue grab a drink and soak in the view from atop the wall, a table will free up soon enough.

Lovely Spot for Lunch We had lunch at this bar and absolutely loved it! The view was beautiful, the perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. We tried the salad and the burrito, and both were fresh, and perfectly prepared. A great place to unwind and enjoy good food with a great view; highly recommended!

This is the spot in Funchal! Lovely people work here - Team, you rock. Food is great, drinks too. The view is overwhelming. We stayed around the corner for 2 weeks and visited this place at least once a day for a beer or Poncha. There is some nice culture in the evening over the weekend with local artists. Overall full of joy, this is this place.

Amazing passion fruit mojito! The food is tasty and fairly priced. Nice spot to get drinks and watch the sunset!

I love this place. They have nice atmosphere and live music. You can sit outside eating or just drinking without table. Food is nice, nothing special but compared to price it tastes good :)

A great bar down by the coast of Funchal, fab location to watch the sunset and see the cruise liners arrive and leave. The menu is straightforward with burgers, hot dogs, salads, sandwiches etc and a good drinks list all for fantastic value. If you're lucky, you get the DJ playing great tunes. Just remember to ask the staff for a beeper if there aren't any free tables - it's usually not too long a wait
Tim Q — Google review
Hard to fault this bar/restaurant. Whether you come during the day or at night the service is good. It’s usually got a crowd and especially on the weekend when they have live music/DJ playing until around 1am. Great burgers and fries which you can get to takeaway.

I've honestly never had better food, this was the best meal of my life. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings, and everything was absolutely delicious. Staff were very attentive too. The only thing I would say is that portions were maybe a bit too big for a tasting menu, we left absolutely stuffed! But that is just an indication of how good value this place is for the quality that you get. Stunning views over Funchal too.

You can do much better!! Sorry guys, not worth the money! First, when we arrived in the floor where the elevator lets you out, many employees were running around but no one cares about you. After we asked someone where the restaurant is, someone told us some kind of impolite: we have to wait at the small shop, someone picks us up. Ok 👍 after the pickup, they brought us to the restaurant with another elevator. So far, so good. There are four waiters running this restaurant. Only one is smiling while talking to you. The other ones are not interested and very neutral. 😐 why is that? No smalltalk? Not even ONE was asking, if we liked the food after every course. Only „are you finished?“… The Aperol Spritz was made with an old Prosecco and we got a new one after telling the bad quality of the Aperol. Also no one asked, if we want some wine for the dinner… When the main course arrived, the waitress noticed, that there is no wine and asked us, if we want some…But much to late…sorry. Come on guys! You had only 6-8 tables to serve with a team of 4! The meals are really nice decorated and very tasty. No complaining about the food, but the service is a challenge. Also: why is there 8 Euros for the bread and butter called „couvert“ on the bill? We didn’t order that… bread and butter is complementary in a restaurant. Why do you charge it as a service fee? After noticing that, I regret to gave you a tip, because you already grab 8 Euros for bread. Don’t get me wrong, the food is really tasty and really nice on the plate, but you could be Full House every night with a good service team. Sorry guys, not worth the money! Not even a warm wish for the guests when they leave… „Thank you for being with us“ OR „have a good night“ is a minimum I expect as a guest. So sad… 😞 that’s the coldest service I had for a long time. My recommendation: don’t go there! There are tons of better places in town.
Morice L — Google review
Beautiful restaurant with ocean view, superbly designed, and with impeccable service. The waiter was very knowledgeable about wine, and tool his time explaining each one, and even recommanding vineyards to visit on our trip according to our tastes. The ravioli, the red snapper, the meringue sorbet palate cleanser and the desert were all delicious. To give them a perfect score, I just wished they seasoned the sides that came with the black angus steak, they tasted a bit bland.
Keven J — Google review
A unique and luxurious dining experience The restaurant at the Design Centre Nini Andrade Silva is truly one of a kind. Positioned on top of an old fortress, it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the sea and the city of Funchal. The setting is modern, elegant, and exudes high-end luxury. The service was superb: attentive, professional, and friendly. The food was not only delicious but also presented with artistic detail, making the entire meal feel like a curated experience. It’s a perfect place to visit if you’re looking for something memorable and refined in Madeira. Note: the sunny side can get quite hot and uncomfortable due to the glass walls — something to be aware of.

Excellent restaurant, beautiful food. Fabulous service with views to Funchal. On the pier, looks a bit remote & rustic from the outside but an excellent inside. Excellent flavours and extremely good value for the set menu 70€ pp 3 courses and lots of wine.

We did our research before coming to Madeira, and this beautiful restaurant truly exceeded expectations. With only two outdoor tables, we felt so lucky to enjoy the breathtaking views while dining. The food was exquisite, the service attentive, and the whole experience unforgettable. We would highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Madeira.

Dining here is like taking a scenic tour through the flavors of Funchal, and it's every bit as good as promised! The dishes blend tradition with a fresh twist, perfectly capturing the essence of both regional and Atlantic cuisines. The views? Absolutely stunning. Plus, the service is top-notch—friendly and knowledgeable staff make you feel right at home. It's the kind of place where every bite and every moment are just right. If you're looking for a meal that truly captures the spirit of the area, you'll love it here. We tried the close menu.

Went for a 3-course menu, which included the drinks as well. It is not cheap but for the amount of stuff included, it is pretty good value. The food is a piece of art. The starter and the dessert are pretty tasty. The main is a bit bland tbh.

Restaurant
Casa Madeirense is a charming restaurant located in the hotel zone near Cliff Bay Resort, housed in a restored building adorned with intricate tile work and hand-painted murals. The menu features an abundance of fresh seafood, including lobster, as well as regional specialties like espada prepared in various ways and the house specialty tornedo. In addition to traditional Madeiran dishes, they also offer pizzas for those seeking something different.
I've been to this restaurant many times in the past before with my parents and it never fails to disappoint. After coming back to Madeira after 6 years this is the first restaurant that I wanted to go to. The food is stunning, the staff are lovely and the overall service is absolutely spot on! Will definitely be returning before our flight back to England! The best Pizza in Madeira!
Phil B — Google review
Service was average and the ambiance was fine but the food was the biggest let down. I visited here based on multiple reviews raving about the pizza but was left sorely disappointed since It tasted worse than microwaved frozen pizza. The pizza was bland, overloaded with cheese and just completely unappetising. The dough did not seem to be fresh either. I’ve had pizzas across several countries and unfortunately this probably takes the cake at being the worst one yet. The price being charged for this abomination doesn’t help with this situation. . The only saving grace was the average sangria.
Nitin S — Google review
The restaurant looks very nice and staff was polite. But the lamb chops where probably from the freezer and also the vegetables where also frozen cut carrots and broccoli that was heated in hot water. My wife tried the Scabbard fish with Banana what was good. Maybe they are better with seafood than Lamb? Dont cut the fat cap of the lamb chops and put more salt and herbs on the fries like it should be..

A very cozy and cute restaurant with very reasonable prices. Not many vegan options – one or two to be exact, but the pasta I had was very nice in all its simplicity. I liked how the vegan options were marked clearly on the menu (although the vegan pizza included mozzarella cheese, so was it actually vegan without modifications? Perhaps not). Cheap beer. :-)
Oona K — Google review
The attention was careless, the food was good but it could be better… the milho Frito was under Frito the wine not well served and spilled all over and the waiter didn’t even cared, the soup plate also spilled all over the sides… the place was almost empty and Took them 10 min to notice me because they were chitchatting… hopefully they get these little things in consideration

Located in Funchal, Madeira Island, Loja do Chá is a beloved destination for tea lovers. Since 2003, this charming teahouse and café has been offering an extensive selection of around 200 different teas and infusions known for their exceptional quality and unique character. Whether you're a tea enthusiast or just looking to explore new flavors, the diverse range of international teas available here is sure to captivate your senses.
One of my favourite places on our trip to Madeira! Gluten free options, huge value for money and TONS of tea options. Atmosphere is calm and inviting, lovely patio. My husband and I bother enjoyed our meals and treats!
Jessie K — Google review
As a tea enthusiast, I appreciate the extensive menu, and particularly the local varieties of tea from Madeira and the Azores. The tea was excellent, the square is lovely and quiet, and the cakes were good, we came back a second time and loved the house cake with currants and the orange cake, the chocolate cake and nut pie less so. This makes for a much less expensive tea in case you had your heart set on Reid's but like us didn't book in time.

Beautiful spot in a more quiet marker square. A man was playing the guitar beside, lovely atmosphere, though I don't think pastel de nata were the freshest. Other people had brunch options and it looked amazing.

We went by to buy some tea. The choice is enough, but no info about ingredients available in the menu, so you need to see each jar to see what's inside. There are places on the square to sit and have brunch or just tea with desserts, also some on the second floor. No parking inside this area.

At MadCuba, you can enjoy delicious Cuban food and cocktails for just €5 during happy hour! The restaurant is reminiscent of Cuba in Madeira, with warm and friendly staff. Be sure to book a table in advance because it's usually bustling! The food is delicious and perfect for sharing, making this a great place to relax after a busy day.
We really liked the place. Good food for a fair price. The tacos were a bit expensive as the starter , but tasty anyways. You get your dishes quickly. It’s nice to sit outside ans inside at the quiet street. Recommended.

Great experience! Good service, honest food, nice drinks. MadCuba is a great little spot for some drinks, and a tasty dinner as well if you are feeling hungry. The service is fast yet personal, and the drinks are very tasty! Happy hour between 5 and 7pm! Tasty cocktails and the lemonade was excellent! The food was great! We ordered the chorizo, as well as the fresh salsa starter. Especially that chorizo hmmm, the sauce is simply superb. Main courses were good, both beef and pork variants are quality. Honest and home made food. Thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert we had the passion fruit mousse, which was very tasty, and a coffee. The coffee deserves a special mention too! Thick cup, very tasty coffee blend and served piping hot. The Cubans know how to do good coffee :) All in all, solid recommendation. Great service, excellent food, tasty drinks and everything for good prices!
Maarten V — Google review
One of the best meals we've had on our trip so far. Great flavors in their meats, beans, and dip. Their house made hot sauce and citrus sauce are great too. We were a bit confused when they refused to honour their happy hour prices if one of the cocktails was to be made without alcohol. We specifically asked them to just make it without the booze, no substitutes, but they still refused. So we opted to just drink tap water instead. Business sense might not be great, but the flavour of their foods are.

I stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and it happened to be one of the best meals I have ever tasted. The food was perfect and bursting with flavour, the service was excellent, all of the staff were amazing. If you ever come to Madeira this is a must try ! The full meal, a cocktail and a shot only cost me €23 which i thought is very reasonable.

Yesterday we have had couple of drinks at MadCuba. Nice ambient that matches the name of the bar. The staff was extremely friendly and open, makes you feel welcome. We arrived just at the start of the happy hour, which is from 6pm to 7pm. Paid for 4 drinks 18 Euros, mad prices. Would recommend to anyone as a warmup when going out 👌.

Been here for a quick lunch, we wanted to try something different, and indeed we did. The staff is very nice, and friendly and we loved our experience here. Gracias por la buena comida!

Fine dining restaurant
Nestled in the enchanting heart of Funchal's old town, William Restaurant is a true gem that embodies elegance and sophistication. Set within a beautifully restored 18th-century mansion, this Michelin-starred dining destination invites guests on an exquisite culinary adventure that celebrates the rich flavors of Madeira. With stunning views overlooking Porto de Funchal, diners can savor innovative dishes crafted from the finest local ingredients while enjoying a contemporary twist on traditional European cuisine.
The level of service was exceptional, marked by warmth and attentiveness. The cuisine was of the highest caliber, with an exquisite taste profile. The restaurant eschewed superfluous ornamentation, opting instead for a minimalist aesthetic. The wine pairing was both distinctive and delectable, enhancing the overall dining experience. Undoubtedly worthwhile!
Yang W — Google review
Excellent food and excellent service. Exactly what you would expect from a restaurant in the michelin guide. Everything was cooked as it should be, and seasoning was spot on. Initial amuse bouches were great, the fish tartare bite was my favourite (I'm sure I would love a course built from this), and I found the apple based palet cleanser very refreshing. The trout was very nice, and while I appreciate trying to reduce waste, I think the pickle water could be used in a better way. The lobster was fantastic. The only fish course that slightly missed me was the scorpionfish, as I found the toasted yeast component a bit overpowering, but my partner enjoyed it. I think I would have been happier if the root vegetable puree was a bit sweeter. The main of pork shoulder was cooked perfectly and overall the dish was well balanced. I found the desert a fairly standard affair, but the caramel in the shape of madeira was a finish. We had an extra little cake brought to the table for an anniversary, which was a nice touch. The petite fours were also presented beautifully with the small tree and paired very well with some whisky to finish. The only thing I'd say is if you're not getting an additional drink at the end, hold back on your final pairing so you have something to go with it (coffee drinkers will be fine, but it was quite a late sit for caffeine). All the wine pairings worked well, and I enjoyed tasting slightly more unusual offerings like the sparkling cider. The restaurant itself has great views over the sea, and as night descended, we could see funchal lit up from the other side. We'll be back in Madeira, and I wouldn't hesitate to book again. These minor criticisms are a matter of taste, not a reflection on the skills of the chefs. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Greg — Google review
We had an overall good experience at William Restaurant. The service was top notch and what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant of this quality. The atmosphere was nice, with a beautiful view of the bank of the island. The restaurant was a little warm when we arrived, and it took until nearly the end of our meal for them to open up some extra windows for things to cool off. The sommelier was excellent. We are not typically wine drinkers, but he was able to find us wine that we both enjoyed that paired really well with our meal. The presentation of the food was very pretty and as you've seen in images on Google. I left three stars because the flavor left something to be desired. For the price, I had expected more. I found the lobster a bit fishy and chewy for my taste. I think the catch from their coast was parrotfish for our night (but I could be misremembering), but my first bite was a tad fishy (the rest of the dish was fine). Overall, a good experience. I probably would try somewhere else rather than go back.

I flew all the way from Canada to try William and Desarma and other restaurant. First of all i want to talk about service. I have to many micheline restaurant in the world. William is on my top about service from beginning when I enter hotel staffs were so welcome and polite they guided me to restaurant and the whole staffs of restaurant were so welcome and I feel like home right away. The view and the ambiance was A1👌. Lighting is perfect for dining but my eyes are weak I have a hard time to read the menu. So I turned flash light of my iPhone to read but I adjusted very discrete because I don’t want to bother other clients. 10 seconds later Gonçalo( waiter) came with a little flash light for me with his smile asking if I need it. All staffs were very professional but Goçalo is la cream de la cream👌 professional and always has his smile on. I love the sommeiller also he’s very professional I explained to him what I like and he got me exact wine I want. About food, I love everything of it especially their lobster dish cooked to a perfection 👌. Only 1 small problem that bothering me on my main course that the chef used the peeled skin of asparagus I believed he fried or dehydrate to garnish on my pork shoulder which was very fiber and chewy the pork and everything else was very good but that peeled skin of asparagus ruined it a bit. Cactus skin sorbet with a touch of seaweed was memorable. Chocolate mousse with lemon sorbet also nice mix. Thank you very much for memorable dinner to whole staffs and chefs👏. I’ll come back with more friends very soon.

We celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a date at this restaurant. Had a great experience. Great culinary delights served with a smile and insights into the local tradition and culture. My wife had the Vegan menu and I had the smaller William menu with the wine pairing. Given how small each course looks, we were both left wondering how we were so stuffed at the end of the meal. Would definitely recommend!

Dining at William Restaurant Madeira was an unforgettable experience — truly worthy of its Michelin star. From start to finish, everything was phenomenal. Our server, Cindy, was exceptional — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate, which elevated the entire evening. The service matched the stunning setting perfectly. We enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menus (Discovery and William), and every course was a masterpiece — beautifully presented, balanced, and full of flavor. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves, but words can’t fully capture the artistry and care behind each dish. If you’re in Madeira, William is a must for a world-class culinary experience.

The menu is a testament to the chef’s visionary commitment to local ingredients. Every dish tells a story of the region, with flavors that feel both grounded and innovative. Each plate arrives as a piece of art, meticulously crafted, showcasing the beauty of seasonal, locally sourced produce. The chef’s dedication to honoring local flavors is evident in every bite, elevating even the simplest ingredients to something truly extraordinary. A special mention goes to the sommelier, whose expertise added a magical touch to the evening. With a deep knowledge of local wines and an approachable, friendly manner, they crafted pairings that were perfect complements to each course. The explanations were both insightful and engaging, allowing us to appreciate the subtle notes in each glass. very recommend

Beef itself could be softer though.

Nestled on the 16th floor of the Savoy Palace, Galáxia Skyfood offers a dining experience that feels like an enchanting journey among the stars. The restaurant's cozy ambiance features beautifully painted ceilings, setting the stage for Chef Carlos Goncalves' innovative five- to seven-course tasting menus.
Beautiful sky bar! It is a bit pretentious, but everyone was very friendly. There’s a separate entrance if you’re not a hotel guest, if you can’t find it, they’re happy to point you in the right direction in the main lobby. You do have to pay for entrance fee, but then you get that money taken off your bill. The bar area is separate than the dining area. We were brought nice snacks with our drink order. There’s also a large outdoor terrace with infinity pool. The views overlooking the city are beautiful.

An outstanding masterpiece in cuisine. We found the whole experience fabulous. All of the staff were so pleasant and professional and made our dining experience so rewarding and worthwhile. We had the course tasting menu with wine paring and did not regret the choice. Everything course was extraordinary, and the wines were fabulous. Certainly one of the best culinary experiences we have ever enjoyed.

Had a nice evening here to wrap up our final night. The service was very professional and accommodating. The food came out in a timely manner. For the price, personally would have liked the portion sizes just a little bigger. 3 pieces of venison instead of 2. Cocktails are okay, I have had better in similar environments. Still worth a visit and it was a cool experience, but it’s a 4/5 for me.

Incredible food and service. The portions are small but you leave full. Every dish is well thought out and the menu and cocktails are creative and unique. One of the best meals we’ve ever had with 5-star service. The price is extremely fair and similar caliber meals would be at least 3x more anywhere else. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a fine dining experience like no other.

Very disappointing experience. We arrived around 18:00, had our dinner reservation for 19:00 confirmed at the reception downstairs, and even paid a deposit. We were asked to wait in the bar. At 19:00, instead of being seated, we were told we could “wait until 21:00” because the kitchen was “not ready” and the set menu is prepared only based on their internal process. In other words, our confirmed reservation simply didn’t matter. The issue wasn’t the delay — it was the attitude. The hostess was dismissive, arrogant, and completely uninterested in listening or offering any solution. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests with a confirmed booking. Before that, we had already waited almost 30 minutes just to receive menus and drinks in the bar, which only added to the frustration. We never got to try the food — maybe it’s good, but the front-of-house service was so poor that it completely ruined the experience. Not what you expect from a place positioned at this level.

Very helpful team, the sommelier and the waiting team were very friendly and informative. Great atmosphere and the food was phenomenal. Thank you to the team for a memorable experience.

We only had drinks here. The staff was very friendly. Great view over Funchal and the ocean. Many different drinks to choose from.
Chia-chen L — Google review
If you're not a hotel gusts there's a €15 entry charge per person but this can be used upstairs in the bar, so it's essentially free entry. Excellent place. We went for drinks and were positively surprised. The tabke service was great. I don't believe they had anything on tap but the selection of drinks was vast. Would go back and recommend reserving if it's any way busy. The DJ is very good also and doesn't deafen you.

Art Food Corner Madeira is a charming café located in downtown Funchal, close to the ocean. The café offers a variety of delightful starters and snacks that showcase the flavors of Madeira cuisine, such as lapas grelhadas and bolo do caco. In addition to their delicious food, they are known for serving amazing coffee and smoothies. The café has a colorful decor with an eclectic, arty vibe and also features unique artwork by local artists.
I went in for a late brunch and couldn’t have made a better choice! I ordered an espresso tonic, a glass of kombucha, and the chicken sandwich—everything was fresh, flavorful, and really well-prepared. Despite the place being packed, my order came out in just a few minutes. Great vibe, fast service, and delicious food!

Very good food and quantity for the price, they have specialty coffee with a nice variety - v60, filter and brew if i remember well and the taste was good - one could feel the notes quite well. Would’ve loved if the banana bread wasn’t too crumbly but the portion was quite big.

One of the best cafes in Madeira, it's as simple as that. The food is outstanding, the service excellent and it's stylish as hell. Finally it's also a bargain. The prices could be a lot higher for what comes out of the kitchen here. One of the menu options I recommend is the beetroot humus on artisan toast, which is served with a superb salad and topped with feta cheese and seeds. Flavours are superb. This cafe is a must visit if you're in Madeira.

Artsy place, yummy food, cozy atmosphere.. What else would you need? On the other side there is a store full of beautiful art pieces, postacards, paintings and many more. Perfect for a comfy brunch 🎨

As I am Vegan I heard good things about this place and usually I am not one to leave a bad review but I was quite disappointed by this place. We went to their other location and it was so amazing but this did not compare. We were sitting near the kitchen so we overheard they made a mistake in our order after we were already waiting for 15 - 20 mins and they didn't even inform us. Overall we waited around 25 minutes for an avo toast and a wrap and they were both pretty average, not much taste to them and not very big portion. The juice was really nice but I would recommend their other location over this one.

★★★☆☆ Nice atmosphere, but a few letdowns Art Food Corner has a lovely and well-designed space with a great vibe, definitely the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the coffee was average, around 3-star quality, and by 12 pm they still didn’t have any pastries available. It might have been a delivery issue, but it was a bit disappointing. A promising spot with potential, but the experience didn’t fully deliver this time.

Great breakfast place. Vegan and non vegan options. Nice coffee, good vibes all round. Easy to get to and wheelchair accessible as there’s outside seating.

A great cafe in the heart of Funchal. It's a cozy, clean space where you can admire the art while feasting on a beautiful, delicious dish. The avocado toast and the hummus salad plate are two dishes we tried and recommend, as well as the macchiato. Plus, there's an art gallery/shop located in the back you can check out, which is very fun!

Casa Velha is a charming restaurant located in the west of Funchal, surrounded by towering hotels. It offers a homely Madeiran ambiance with traditional decor and a menu that reflects authentic regional and Portuguese cuisine. The restaurant is conveniently close to Quinta da Penha Franca, making it easily accessible for guests staying there.
We love love loved it here! The food was incredible. My partner and I came here twice and both times the same brilliant service, food and drinks. I had the Madeira Kebab of Beef, medium rare, it was perfect, the right amount of pink too! The beef was melt in your mouth, and the sides were amazing too. My partner had the 3 medallions, the sauce to this was perfect, winey, creamy, and it went perfect with the steaks. He also had the Catch of the Day, which was a sea bass pasta, the portion sizes were ideal, the plate had 3 fillets of fish, and some perfectly cooked pasta. The prices were reasonable for the two of us it cost around €30 each. I couldn’t recommend this place enough, the staff were incredible and friendly, and the pastel de natas were a homely touch.
Madison — Google review
From the moment we walked into Casa Velha, we were greeted with warmth and kindness by the staff, instantly making us feel at home. The restaurant itself feels like a little oasis—a hidden gem with a peaceful view that set the perfect backdrop for our meal. The calm, relaxed atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We started with garlic bread, which was so delicious it disappeared within minutes. For our mains, we had the shrimp pasta and the shrimp risotto and both dishes were absolutely outstanding—packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. To finish, we shared a crème brûlée, which was simply divine: creamy on the inside with the perfect crunchy topping. As a final touch, we were treated to complimentary pastel de natas, a thoughtful gesture that truly put the cherry on top of an already fantastic experience. Casa Velha is a restaurant that delights in every way—food, service, and atmosphere. A place we would happily return to again and again!

We found this restaurant on our first trip to Maderia and now make sure we visit every time we return. Love it, friendly staff, varied menu, lots of wine and beer choices. Really competitive pricing. We have booked but also have just turned up without booking and was given a table. Easy to book though online so would recommend this in case we have just been lucky. Free nata at the end of meal, bonus x will be back again in a few months.

We had a delicious dinner here this weekend. The staff was attentive, the food was hot and so delicious, prices were fair and the atmosphere was serene, quiet and lovely. We will definitely be back if we return to Madeira for another holiday. They even gave us pastel de natas after dinner. Wonderful all around.

The best and coziest restaurant in this area. We went here for two nights just because of the food, service and atmosphere. The waiters are very attentive and welcoming. The garden/backyard you're sittning in is very cozy and calm. Had three courses and all was fantastic. Loved The Apple crumble. Will save this nights for cold and dark winters up north.

When it comes to selecting food, I prefer to rely on others. During a lunch with Julia, I often suggest that she choose what she wants to eat and share it with me. This approach was similarly followed at Indian House, although without Julia's presence. Overall, the experience at the restaurant was excellent. The dishes were incredibly flavorful and the staff members were friendly and welcoming.
Very delicious food for an affordable price. I can especially recommend the Tandoori and the South Indian Garlic Curry with chicken. Great service and worth every penny!

First time here and I had vegetable curry lunch special. This is the first time since I moved to Portugal that I've had Indian food with any real flavour or spice. Everyone was super attentive and friendly. This was great. Will be back for dinner for sure.

No frills restaurant but authentic curry We were craving some spice after some very nice but plain local cuisine. This place is no frills, the menus are a bit scruffy and the inside decor is a bit boring. But everywhere was clean. Bangra style music blared out which was thankfully turned down after 20 minutes to a more reasonable level. The service was very smiley and friendly, not overly efficient (it took a while for dirty plates to be removed) and the wait between starter and main course took a long time, almost an hour. It wasn't busy. But the curry was worth the wait. The rice was nice and fluffy, naan bread crisp and my madras was delicious. And a proper madras heat, not adjusted for local palettes. Note that the chicken is both breast and thigh meat. There is no cobra or kingfisher, but the local coral beer went well. The mango chutney tasted homemade.

Came here for light lunch with my girlfriend and I must say, it was a great experience. The staff was really helpful and friendly, quick to order and always with a smile on the face.We had a pleasant surprise when the waiter brought us a glass with 2 straws in it so we could share a drink. Moving on to the food, we had the vegetable puree and Keema nuun, both were equally great, the vegetable puree was a fabulous mix of flavous along the poppadom prepared for it, add a little bit of one of the wonderful sauces and you were in for a delightfull flavor trip, same was applied to the Keema, lamb, garlic and parsley make one awesome combination. Overall the ambient was great ,the food was even better and it's definitely a place I'd recommend and will come back to try other dishes.

Food is perfect, staff are professional (international hotel standard). The only thing is they actually don’t serve food at the outdoor seatings, not sure if it’s the unpredictable weather or something). Indoor is beautiful still, just not as we want like more relaxing outside. Anyway, we had a good time. In general, people are dressed in smart casual. We were a bit underdressed as just super casual. I’m glad we were not treated badly though I noticed many of the customers’ eyes are on us. After dinner, we moved to the bar area which the piano started with a sexy voice singing. Love it!

Extensive menu and good service. Great location but as we were staying in the hotel, it was great to be able to sit by the pool and get such great food. The tuna tartar was fresh and tasty and one of the best I've tasted. The Greek salad was fresh and plentiful. The price was good too.

Sabor da India is a fantastic Indian restaurant with set menus and servers who are always happy to help. It's perfect for vegetarians, who won't be disappointed by the delicious food on offer.
Some YouTuber recommended this spot and we decided to try it before our flight out. Also, consecutive days of local Portuguese cuisine was just a bit redundant so was excited for a change of flavor. Firstly, this place features an amazing hard to beat lunch deal 10 euros for a curry protein and salad and it’s a great portion. We ordered the chicken lunch curry and I ordered the prawn bunda curry with garlic naan. The curries were delicious it was freshly made curry not overnight kind not to mention authentic not fake Indian food. Pair the curry with fresh out of the oven garlic naan and a ice cold mango lassi you got yourself a meal. Lastly, the service was so friendly and welcoming. Hidden gem on the island and didn’t expect such good authentic Indian cuisine here. Total: was 32 euros for 2 curries + garlic naan and 2 beverages Make this a must try on the island.

Restaurante Casal da Penha is a charming, family-owned restaurant located in the heart of Funchal. The traditional Madeiran and Portuguese dishes served here include bolo do caco, black scabbard fish with bananas, Madeiran-style tuna, espetada, and passionfruit pudding with Madeira wines. The restaurant also offers a daily variety of fresh fish and seafood purchased at the local market.
Dining at Casal da Penha was one of the highlights of our trip! Michael took such wonderful care of us — his attention and hospitality made the experience even more special. a very nice restaurant that seems to have a lot of returning customers. the service was excellent, the staff was helpful, some were very funny. the food, though, was a bit pricey for what we got. the seafood pasta was the only dish that felt like it’s worth the price, other than that the rest of what we ordered just felt ok, the chicken we could have made better at home. but in general it’s a really nice atmospheric place, we had a really nice time.

Absolutely delicious! Sat on terrace. Had the grilled bread with the octopus vinaigrette, which has chopped onions and red peppers with pieces of tender octopus in an olive oil vinaigrette. A star starter! Loved the huge grilled Tiger shrimp which came with 4 pieces(2 tigers split in half) and it was decadent. Also enjoyed the sea bass which as succulent and tasty. Ended the amazing food with desserts of chocolate cake with ganache and ice cream as apple tart. Attentive service and should be a Michelin spot!

Beef & Wines is a steakhouse situated close to the Pestana Carlton and Royal Savoy hotels in Funchal. It offers a wide selection of quality meats, with popular dishes such as Picanha, steaks, beef skewers, and burgers. In addition to beef options, the restaurant also provides chicken, pork, and fish dishes along with soups and salads. The ambiance is described as fantastic and the prices are reasonable.
Dining at Beef & Wine in Madeira was an unforgettable culinary experience that beautifully showcased the richness of Madeiran tradition with a refined, homemade touch. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, elegant, and welcoming—setting the perfect stage for what turned out to be one of the best meals we had on the island. What truly makes this place stand out is their commitment to authentic, homemade dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Every plate that arrived at our table was not only delicious but also thoughtfully prepared and presented. One of the absolute highlights was the beef tartare, which was prepared live at the table by a skilled and friendly chef. Watching the process, seeing the attention to detail, and being part of the preparation added a personal, interactive touch to the meal. The tartare was seasoned perfectly, full of flavor, and incredibly fresh—an absolute must-try. We also had the fish with potatoes, a traditional dish that was simply out of this world. The fish was tender and flaky, with a delicate taste of the sea, while the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—truly the definition of comfort food elevated to a fine dining level. The service at Beef & Wine was nothing short of impeccable. The staff was professional yet friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and always ready to recommend the perfect wine or dish pairing. They made us feel special and taken care of throughout the entire evening. The wine selection was excellent as well, with a strong focus on local Madeiran wines that complemented the food beautifully. It’s clear that great care goes into every aspect of the experience, from the kitchen to the table. In a place known for its natural beauty and hospitality, Beef & Wine still manages to exceed expectations. Whether you’re a food lover looking to explore traditional Madeiran cuisine or simply want a memorable dining experience in Funchal, this restaurant is a must-visit. We left not only full and satisfied but also impressed by the passion and authenticity behind every dish. We’ll definitely return on our next visit to Madeira. Highly recommended!

We had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, it was also a bonus for me since items were marked gluten free which made it an easy choice. We each did our own appetizers, mains and desserts. Everything was yummy, but I can’t say it was spectacular. The ribs were very thin with not much meat and our affocados were just ice and coffee, not at all as describe on the menu with olive oil and sea salt. The service was friendly but still somewhat of a language barrier even though I was speaking Portuguese where possible. A fun spot for a group.

We pre booked here from the Uk as we know it is difficult to ‘walk in’ here and get a table. We were greeted very warmly as we were repeat diners. Shown to a lovely round table that I really like as you have much more space. We ordered drinks and the lady sommelier went out of her way to offer us 2 different taster wines so we could choose our favourite. We ordered picana, t bone and wagu steaks. You get one complimentary side each and all others are 4€. It is best to all order different and then share. The roasted pineapple was a great ‘finisher’ to the meal. Well done to everyone involved, chef, servers and sommelier!

We came here for dinner on a Monday evening 7pm reservation but the restaurant was very quiet. Service and atmosphere were 10/10. Food was good for some dishes and not so good for others. The steak was very good, and the waitress gave us an excellent wine recommendation. The desert and starters were just OK. Overall I would recommend for an evening out. We paid 170 euros for two people including a bottle of wine

Friends back home recommended this place to us, so we had to give it a try – especially their famous sliced picanha. You get a large skewer of New Zealand beef with a side of your choice, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. The fries were unfortunately a bit soft, which was a slight letdown, but the flavor overall was spot on. We sat outside since we hadn’t booked a table, and the passing cars could be a bit distracting. I’d definitely recommend booking ahead so you can sit inside and enjoy the full experience.

Great choice for the carnivore. Delicious beetroot, orange and mozzarella salad to start followed by beef on a skewer carved in front of you. You can eat as much of it as you can stomach, ( see picture) followed by a slice of roasted pineapple to cleanse your palate. Fantastic wine selection. The Pinot Noir is lovely.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Funchal's Old Town, Restaurante Taberna Ruel is a charming eatery that stands out with its eye-catching yellow facade on Rua de Santa Maria. This beloved spot offers a delightful blend of Madeiran cuisine and traditional European dishes, all complemented by an impressive selection of Portuguese wines. Guests can choose to dine al fresco on the lively pedestrian street, enjoy a cozy meal under the historic stone arches indoors, or savor grilled steaks in the serene rear courtyard.
We had lunch yesterday and the food and service was amazing. We had the. Branco Sangria and it divine. We sat outside Rua Se Santa Maria and it was lively. I gave them 4* for service since they had added an extra glass of wine which we never ordered but when I pointed it out they removed it. We would definitely go there again.

I really liked this place, they were playing old school rock hits and I had the most chill yet attentive server. I got the fish soup and the octopus tavern style and both dishes were splendid. The octopus was grilled nicely and perfectly salted, and paired well with the sautéed onions and peppers. It came with a minuscule amount of sweet potato mash- it could do with more. I really enjoyed myself at this restaurant and it’s a wonderful find in the old town.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. Start are wonderful and very friendly and efficient. However the food was disappointing. The garlic bread starter was a very disappointing start to the meal. The beef skewer and fries were good, however the fish and prawns were well overcooked and the portion size was disappointing for the price. The tequila sunrise was great however the mojito was abysmal.

Great food and service! The servers were very pleasant and knowledgable on the local seafood and what pairs well. I forgot my bag at the restaurant and they ran across the street to bring it back for me!

Unfortunately it was not the best experience eating at this restaurant. In the picture it was supposed to be a red snapper but I paid 47 euros for a bland tasting fish instead. The lasagna was not cooked enough and it wasn't tasty at all. I will say though, It was pretty late (around 10:30 pm). However, the service was good, the boys were nice and attentive.

Nice spot for local food and other things. We booked online for a big group which was helpful. ChatGPT said it was great for tapas and sharing but actually it’s just regular sized portions served in even bigger plates haha. I tried the fish with banana which surprisingly works as a combo. Staff were friendly but running around as they were very busy. Located towards the end of the Funchal town.

I have visited Taberna Ruel everytime I came to Funchal to have the local Scabbardfish. This time we stayed for 1 week and visited the Taberna twice. The Scabbardfish with Banana and Passion Fruit is our go to dish. Looking forward to next time!

Nestled in a picturesque location with stunning ocean views, Cris's Place is a highly recommended restaurant in Madeira known for its gourmet European cuisine. The well-curated menu features locally sourced ingredients and is updated twice a year, offering Instagram-worthy dishes that are as visually appealing as they are delicious. The restaurant boasts a lovely terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing guests to enjoy the scenic surroundings both indoors and outdoors.
A great experience at an off-the-beaten-track restaurant. The restaurant : Elegant and impeccably presented but still felt really relaxed. Not at all imposing - don't need to get all dressed up. . We went very early so first of the evening diners, but got to about ¾ full later. This was a Monday, mid-May. The staff: very attentive and polite, professional service, yet still made us feel relaxed. The little things set them apart eg asking if wanted a pause before dessert or not, proactively topping up our water, confirming what they were serving without making a performance out of it as other places can. The food: Not a huge range of choices but to me, that's good - I'm suspicious that places with an enormous menu can't be using fresh produce, nor be good at all the dishes . Better a few things done well. One particularly good sign: when my wife asked if certain dishes had garlic, they said they could make it without. You just can't do that unless doing things from scratch. Very well cooked and presented beautifully. Tasted great - no need to spice or salt things up the wazoo when the food is good in the first place. Value: astonishingly good. A fixed price of €57.50 for starter, main & dessert plus coffee (or tea etc) Said it included wine, soft drink or water. We expected one glass to be included but actually, we got offered and took both white, then red (they also had rosé). They also periodically offered to top up too. Two nice surprises they didn't even mention - a welcome glass of sparkling wine/prosecco or whatever Portuguese version is called (!); and a small lemon sorbet as a "palette cleanser" between starter and main. For sure, we're going back.

We had a great experience here. The food is very well cooked and the flavours are excellent. The portions are very generous. It was so good we went back a couple of days later. They do a meal deal of 3 courses with 2 glasses of wine which have very generous pours and all for €57 per person. This was a real find.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Service is excellent. They cater really well for Gluten free. The entertainment was good also. We went 3 times in our week visit. Already planning when we can go on holiday again to go back.

Wow this place is amazing, we went twice the second time we had the Special Menu a set meal for €57 euro each which included any starter main and desert from the main menu and all drinks, wine coffee soft drinks. The service was outstanding we were given a glass of sparkling wine each complimentary whether you choose the special menu or not! Also a warm complimentary bread roll with cream cheese and olive oil. I had scallops with curry risotto it was delicious and my husband had prawns. My sea bass for main course was beautifully presented with mussels and a prawn with a wine sauce it was fabulous so tasty my husband had pork cheeks with chestnut purée he said it was fantastic for desert I had chocolate fondant which was to die for and my husband had hot honey cake which was so good he wouldn’t share. The service we received was brilliant so attentive without being over the top our wine was topped up before we’d finished the glass and the time we were given between our main course and desert was appreciated. We left feeling thoroughly spoilt and extremely full please don’t walk by it’s a true gem of a place!

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Cris’s Place! The food was fantastic – every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The wine selection was excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. I was especially impressed by the value for money when choosing the set menu, which felt like a real treat without breaking the bank. The service was warm and attentive, making the entire evening very enjoyable. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed and memorable dining experience. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend Cris’s Place to anyone looking for a top-notch meal with great service and a welcoming vibe!

The food was nice and cooked well. Perhaps it's just not to our taste but we appreciate the meat was cooked well. However we did feel that what we paid for our meal didn't match the meal we ate. €3 for a very small and slightly hard bread roll felt a bit silly. I think it was a bit too expensive for what we had, while the dishes were pricey we didn’t finish a single dish feeling wholly satisfied, some combinations that didn’t really feel like they worked or left the dish feeling a bit incomplete or mismatched. The thing that really fell short was the service. Yes the service staff were extremely kind, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and helpful when speaking to them. However it took a long time to even be able to get their attention, it felt like we were left waiting a long time after being given our menu and again when we said a were finished. It took over 20 minutes to get the bill at the end after saying we are finished and had to ask for it twice.

Great food, they took care of our food allergies of gluten intolerance and dairy allergy. Great food and great service, nearly every table was taken. Given that it is a little out of the main area this says a lot Definitely worth the effort getting there.

This is a definite must-visit. We were fortunate to be staying within a few minutes of this excellent restaurant (we visited twice in the week we were visiting Madeira). Food is superb, and excellent service. They do a "set" 3-course menu from which you can choose anything from the menu for all three courses, including wine, coffee and water. Interesting menu, good ambience and outstanding value. Excellent service from Diogo. Highly recommended!

Taberna Madeira is a charming restaurant in the old town, offering a relaxed atmosphere and traditional Madeiran dishes. The wooden furnishings and inviting patio create the perfect setting to enjoy authentic flavors of the island. Specializing in local delicacies such as espada com banana and espetada, the menu showcases traditional Madeiran techniques. Visitors can indulge in tuna stew, limpets, baked sweet potatoes, and espetada while savoring the rich culinary heritage of Madeira.
We arrived early evening and were made to feel very welcome. Great advice on dishes and wine selection. The food was delicious. As the evening developed, more people arrived and started to queue outside for tables. You can understand why, as this place is perfect for a dining experience. The price was very reasonable too. I would definitely return. Recommend booking, especially for eating later. Thank you to all the team 🙏

Great food. Banana fish is crispy outside and juicy inside. Octpud is very tender and perfectly done. Especially loved the vegetables that are cooked in Asian style. Note it is cash only but ATM is 2 min walk. There is also a parking garage 5 min walk.

We had a fantastic meal at Taberna Madeira. The food was delicious — the tuna and garlic shrimp were absolute standouts. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and it’s clear why the restaurant is so popular. Tables filled up quickly during our visit, so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance. A great spot to enjoy authentic flavors in Madeira!

Had a delicious dinner here last night. Everything we ordered was phenomenal and our server had great recommendations for the tomato soup we would not have picked on our own. However, when it became time to pay the bill a woman came over with a handwritten bill that looked wrong and until my girlfriend challenged her on the six added items for 20 euro did we get a new one that was printed and accurate. Also tried to tell us cash only and that their machine wasn't working when we saw everyone else using it.
David L — Google review
Avoid! Came here due to the good reviews and it turned out to be the worst place during my entire stay in Madeira. I got two popular dishes and both were thrown away after one bite. Wasted 30 euros on tuna belly and the mussels. Don’t waste a dinner here. Right after wasting money here I went to a near by snack bar and it was so much better.
Charlie — Google review
The place and atmosphere were nice. We tried the chicharros fish, octopus slices, and cornmeal cubes. Unfortunately, the fish was overcooked with a burnt taste, and the octopus lacked flavor. The cornmeal cubes were quite plain. They also brought bread and olives without asking and charged €3 for them. We had high expectations due to the strong ratings, but overall it was just an average experience.

Lovely restaurant. We called without a reservation and the staff were more than helpful and got us a table. Due to the inclement weather we soon needed to move inside. Again, no problem and we were seated at a lovely table. The food and service we received throughout was excellent. Highly recommend the goat stew. It was amazing. Prices are very fair too 👍

Overall a great experience, with good quality authentic food and great service for an acceptable price. We visited 3 times. This is one of the few restaurants in the area, that offers authentic Portuguese dishes. The service was very good, our waitress gave great recommendations regarding our order. For instance we wanted to order 3 starters to share as 4 and she said it would be too much together with the mains. Also the portion sizes of the main dishes were very big. I'd recommend to come here if you are very hungry. For the little hunger you might fight with the size of the main dishes. The espetadas of meat were excellent. On one day they also had a mixed fish platter with fresh fish of the day which was very good. Lastly the scallops risotto was a dream. Inside the restaurant is very beautiful, the terrace is a great option to sit outside.

An excellent experience at Chalet Vicente! The service was friendly, fast and genuinely welcoming — exactly what you hope for in Madeira. The highlight of the evening was the liver — absolutely divine. Perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender and full of rich, deep flavor. A true standout dish! Everything was smooth, delicious and beautifully executed. Highly recommended — I would gladly come back!

Had a great tasting grilled fish of the day. The fish was fresh and properly seasoned. All the side dished where good. Also sweet potato on the side was perfect. No bad words about this restaurant. Price of food is the mid range of a busy tourist place. Do try their garlic bread its one of the best ones iv tried in Madeira

Beautiful restaurant and very nice and attentive staff. We were pleased to discover this place. The garlic bread was lovely. Our only criticism is that the meat skewer was way too salty, I couldn't finish it, and it was a bit overdone (I asked for medium but it was more like well done and it was tough to get the meat off the skewer). However my partner's pork dish was excellent. We would return but maybe order something different.

Nestled in the charming Rua de Santa Maria, Restaurante Gavião Novo is a delightful gem that showcases the best of local cuisine. This cozy eatery is beloved by both locals and visitors alike, offering an inviting atmosphere where you can savor expertly grilled limpets and fresh parrotfish. The menu also features succulent flambeed steaks drizzled with Roquefort sauce, making it a must-visit for meat lovers.
It’s a very luxe place. It is expensive but it is 110% worth it. The house wines, white and red, are very smooth, the food is amazing. I got the seafood rice and it was amazing. It’s a portion for two and you get 2 and a half plates worth, the fish to rice ratio is perfectly balanced, not too much rice just to try and fill you up. The squid, muscles, and the rice were cooked to perfection, not a fishy taste off it at all. The service was sublime. We were made feel so welcome and taken care of all of the time, we were never left with an empty plate or an empty glass. The only thing was we were outside and were little flies, but I don’t think that’s in control of the restaurant. If you’re coming to Madeira, a seafood fanatic and don’t mind spending an extra bit, definitely recommend coming here!
Angel L — Google review
Very Disappointing – Wouldn’t Recommend We came here as a group of five, excited to try different dishes. Unfortunately, almost everything we ordered tasted bad. The ESPETADA was the worst — none of us could even take more than one bite. We asked for a discount because two dishes were completely inedible, but they only gave us 10% off on those, which was just 3.50€. It felt like a small gesture for such a poor experience. The only one eatable dish was mushroom pasta. Carbonara and risotto were really bad, the worst in my life. Just take a look at the photos of our dishes. The presentation says a lot about the taste. We won’t be back, and we wouldn’t recommend this place to others.

I have never Seen such a Bad place to eat. Not only that we waited more then 45 min for the food, it was horrible, AS WE reseave the food it was such a little Peace of meet for which i pay 30 €. Mills K — Google review
The food is not necessarily better than in other places in Madeira, but for sure it is a lot more expensive. The portions are small compared to what other restaurants offer. We were sitting outside and next to our table there was this person (maybe the manager or the owner, as he wasn't serving the tables and would give instructions to the staff) who would loudly approach every person and invite them to eat there. When you are sitting there and have to listen to the same speech all over it's just annoying. He managed to bring some new clients, but he also managed to provide an unpleasant experience to the clients that he already had. The service was great, our waiter was very efficient and friendly.

It can be quite busy so be prepared to wait awhile, but the views from the outdoor seating are worth the wait. The bar serves alcohol, and there is free wifi available.
Very nice place to have lunch, with good options on the menu. The prices vary, but nothing is too expensive, at least not given the food quality and portion. The waiters are very kind and attentive. Eating on the terrace is a big plus!

Ate here after visiting the Monte Palace. The view was beautiful on the terrace and it was not too busy. Ate a lovely meal, the fish with wine and garlic sauce, would recommend. The service was great, a bit of good banter with the waitstaff. Among the best meals I’ve had in Madeira.

Always extremely polite, service minded and helpful. And despite that I arrived rather late and they had almost closed the kitchen, I got my pizza! So thankful. I dont quite fancy being forced to use the menu as a means of saving the staff from cleaning. It takes 2 seconds to wipe the table...but what does it cost to make a menu? ..also there's a bit of a negative vibe when I enquired if it was table service or what...was..just giving 1 so as to highlight the issue, I feel like this place does well off of its views/location and not staff Passion fruit brulee tasted like scrambled egg and sugar too I did enjoy the lads eye roll after I paid never had that before...what an experience .. madeira is so so lovely but I have found the tourist trap..its here be wide! Avista Restaurant, located within Les Suites at Cliff Bay, offers a unique dining experience with its Mediterranean and Asian cuisine overseen by chef Benoit Sinthon. The restaurant's century-old house setting provides a charming backdrop for enjoying the diverse menu options, including a la carte dishes designed for sharing and bistro-style tasting menus. With its Michelin-starred quality and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, Avista is celebrated as one of Funchal's top dining destinations.
Great food at a great location served by a more then helpfull and friendly staff. Come early for the best seating. We had a vegi and a normal experience with a wine pairing and 2 cocktails. The kitchen has your typical Michelin small dishes with flavors from the island, Portugal and the Mediterranean with some pinches of Asia. All well balanced and we went home stuffed with a smile on our faces.

We came to Avista for lunch and had a lovely experience. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the setting is truly stunning with a superb view that makes the meal even more special. Service was attentive and professional, though we did find the warmth and friendliness a little less than what we’ve enjoyed at some other restaurants in Madeira. Overall, a great spot for a quality lunch with an unbeatable view.

Our dinner at Avista Mediterranean was the perfect finale to our Madeira trip! The setting is absolutely breathtaking—perched above the ocean with sunset views that feel straight out of a dream. The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, perfectly matching the stunning scenery. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was the wonderful staff. They went above and beyond when I accidentally left my purse—with my heart medication inside—at the restaurant. They acted so quickly and kindly to make sure I got it back just in time before my flight. I’m beyond grateful for their care and professionalism. If you’re ever in Funchal, don’t miss Avista—not just for the view and the food, but for the people who make it truly special. 🌅💛

A beautiful position, we enjoyed cocktails before our meal with wonderful views. The food was typical for a Michelin restaurant, tasty but small portions. The ambience was great. We had booked a table for 2 of us at 7pm, our first course came at 8pm and our main course at 9pm. The waiter apologised for the delay but told us there were more affluent customers to be served first. Certainly there were people who had come in after us and were on their dessert before we had our main course. They deducted the cost of 2 glasses of wine for the delay. I appreciate their honesty although I am not sure how they measured affluence. Don't think we will go back, a shame really as a lovely place

Update January 2025 Had another great meal here at Tipografia, enjoyed the same goats cheese as last time as well as the salmon for mains, plus had the duck main which was also good, if a little over for a 'medium'. Desserts this time were chocolate brownie and the sauteed mango pie, both good. All the staff were pleasant and efficient as always -o- One of the best meals to date we have had in Madeira, a lovely restaurant with a nice and quiet courtyard as well. Had goats cheese starters, pork cheeks & the salmon for mains, red fruit soup for dessert. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted exceptional, the pork cheeks especially. The staff are also amazing, they know about the dishes and the wine and are kind, courteous and also funny (and they didn't mind me trying out my terrible Portuguese on them!). Will be back here for sure next time in Madeira 👍🇬🇧❤️🇵🇹

The service was super nice, professional and friendly. The atmosphere was calm and quiet, serene almost. But the food was mediocre and sometimes cutting corners and some times trying too hard. We had two starters and two mains. The shrimp was delicious and the goat cheese & cooked pear equally so. Even though the avocado didn’t really complement the shrimp and didn’t taste fresh either. The two mains (lamb chops and steak) had almost identical sides: zucchini strips and asparagus, + one sad lump of boiled and unseasoned cauliflower and two cherry tomatoes - totally unnecessary and just made the dish resemble cafeteria food. The meat itself was delicious and perfectly cooked. The tiramisu also came with way too much garnish: oatmeal cookie(?), strawberries , raspberries, mango-puree… if I wanted a fruit salad I’d order one. The tiramisu itself once I found it underneath all the fruit - delicious! I feel really conflicted about this, again the staff was amazing, the wine delicious and the atmosphere great but I expect more of the food for a 4.7 star place.

An Evening of Distinction — With Just a Hint of Architectural Mischief The food is nothing short of excellent, the service genuinely attentive, and the setting thoroughly charming — both indoors and out. It’s the sort of place where one can happily linger over dessert and lose track of time. If there is a quibble to be had, it lies in the curious positioning of the rearmost row of tables inside. From there, one’s view extends directly to the more—or less—manicured feet of guests seated in the slightly elevated courtyard. The exchange of perspectives is, shall we say, democratic: those above are in turn offered a fleeting glimpse of a décolleté or two below. One suspects the interior designer was having an unusually whimsical day. Still, this minor eccentricity hardly detracts from what is otherwise a most delightful dining experience.

Went there for dinner almost directly from a hiking tour. First thought that i felt out of place as it is a fine kind of nobel atmosphere. The service was super nice, presented a fine wine,. The food was exciting and really tasty. The price is more than fair and reasonable.

Very good food, wine and service on a nice and quiet courtyard terrace | Salon Bar with terrace next to it with Happy Hour. We ate several times at the Tipografia restaurant inside the Castanheiro where we were staying. But it is open to everyone that wish to come! It offers nice food and wine cards, to eat "à la carte" or with prices for menus including wines to go with the food you order. The hôtel bar is next to the restaurant with it's own terrace with nice drinks and cocktails and Happy Hour between 6-7 pm. The hotel also organizes theme evenings (Fado, traditional Madeiran, etc.) with special menus, as well as concerts in the courtyard serving as the restaurant terrace. Definitively a nice place to spend a nice dinner and evening.

Brunch restaurant
Restaurant
LOFT brunch & cocktail restaurant offers a diverse brunch menu featuring bowls, bagels, toast, salads, eggs, and pancakes. The restaurant also serves natural juices, smoothies, and alcohol-free cocktails with vegetarian options and a children's menu available. Located on the Lido side of town with a spacious sunny terrace, it provides decent coffee and fresh juices along with avocado-on-toast dishes.
LOFT is the ideal place for a great brunch. My group of guys and I were fresh off a flight and needed a solid meal. The service was great, the atmosphere was splendid, and the food was spectacular. It was almost impossible to order because everything on the menu looked so good. Highly recommend for the price and overall satisfaction.

Big portions and lots of ingredients!!! We really liked it! The staff was very friendly and easy to talk to. We tried the pancake dessert — just so you know, it’s super sweet, great only if you really love sugar. The only small downside is that it’s a bit noisy because it’s next to a busy road. Also, they close at 6 PM, so no dinner, but you can order proper meals all day — even breakfast-style dishes.

We came here for brunch almost every day during our vacation, and it quickly became one of our favorite spots. The menu is extensive, with something for everyone, and the food is absolutely delicious, consistently fresh and flavorful. The staff are incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome each time. We definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!

Our favorite brunch spot! ◡̈ The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, and the food is definitely worth coming back for. It's also worth mentioning how fresh and quick the food arrives after ordering (10 minutes). A truly lovely atmosphere, excellent espresso, and even better mimosas! ♡

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Loft Brunch & Cocktails for breakfast, and it was overwhelmingly delicious! We returned a few times because the food never disappointed. The vibrant atmosphere was buzzing with energy, and it is easy to see why—both the customer service and the quality of the food are truly top-notch. If you're looking for a place that excels in both flavour and service, Loft definitely stands out as one of the best! Highly recommend!

After a long day of hiking, we needed some proper refreshment and got a taxi over to Loft. It had a really cool setup with a step-in, step-out design—kind of a blend between indoors and outdoors. We opted to sit outside while the weather was still fresh. The menu is pretty vast, both for drinks and food. We both started with banana shakes. They were made with fresh banana, which was delicious, but the banoffee sauce was so subtle you could barely taste it. For drinks, I followed up with a passion fruit mojito, which turned out to be one of the highlights. It had such a strong, vibrant flavour—really refreshing. My mum just stuck with a couple of coffees. Food-wise, I went for a kind of beef mince taco with beans, cheese and salad. Mum had something more like a salmon tortilla. Both dishes were really well presented and everything tasted fresh. I wasn’t entirely sure how to eat mine, though. The taco was sort of folded and melty, so I gave up trying to hold it and just used a knife and fork in the end. Not complaining—it was still delicious. A nice touch at the end was when I went to pay—the guy who’d made the mojito asked who had ordered it and was clearly proud of it. I told him it was me and said I really enjoyed it, which I genuinely did. All in all, a relaxed spot with good vibes, tasty food, and excellent drinks. Just a tiny letdown with the banoffee sauce in the shake, but otherwise a great visit.

Food poisoning ⚠️ The service was fine and the atmosphere and decor inside was trendy and busy. The meals were mixed. I had the salad bowl HEFESTO with Seared Tuna but it wasn’t stored or handled properly by the restaurant and gave me food poisoning. I had to take antihistamine to make the redness disappear. The other dishes were enjoyed. This experience had put me off eating tuna fish for life! I can not recommend this restaurant.
H B — Google review
Even though the food is good, the service is terrible. They ignore customers to the point where you have to call them three times just to place an order. We were a table of three, and after asking twice for water—since we had only ordered coffee and food—they told us, in a condescending way, that there’s a rule of only two glasses of water per table.

Sete Mares is a restaurant with two locations, each offering a different atmosphere. One of the restaurants is situated on the port side of Funchal, providing a stunning view over the port and the city. The ambiance is described as relaxing with a seaside-inspired decor. However, some customers have mentioned that pigeons can be bothersome on the terrace.
Food was decent particularly for the price. It’s a fairly lower cost place to eat overall. You get an excellent view too! The staff was quick to the point but kept it friendly.

Club Sandwich tasted awfully, waiters were rude. The sauce in the club sandwich tasted really bad and seemed expired. The chicken in the sandwich was low quality, full of black spots, unseasoned and CAME WITH BONES!!! DISGUSTING!!! NEVER GOING BACK!

Hidden gem. For some great local authentic Madeiran food. Well worth a visit. The chicken. And the beef with chips were both very tasty.

I recently dined at the "Sete Mares" restaurant in Funchal and had a fantastic experience. The ambiance was good, with a seaside-inspired decor that created a relaxing atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had a comfortable dining experience. * At the 'Sete Mares' Restaurant's terrace, there are many pigeons because some of the customers feed them. It's bothersome to enjoy the food or drinks while constantly shooing the pigeons away from the plates and glasses.

Very good spot to take a drink or grab the food :) i loved pineaple "Nikita", ponch, the fish, beer. All was very good and fresh! Beautiful view on the seashore and turistic ships as also the view on the city (especially in the night!) + prices + service + view + food + drinks - toilet cleanliness - sticky menu

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled at the lower level of Quinta da Casa Branca, The Dining Room restaurant is housed in an elegant Manor House with a classic dining room and an al fresco terrace. It offers a contemporary and inventive cuisine, providing a caring à la carte menu in a refined environment. The restaurant has been recognized for its selection of products, creativity and presentation, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, value for money, and consistency. This year's assessments have been more flexible due to the disruptions.
We wanted something special for our last day on Madeira, and that restaurant was special indeed. First, for those that may get confused as we were. Once you reach the reception, you need to walk through the garden to reach the restaurant, it's at the far end of the garden. The restaurant itself is fantastic. The service is friendly but very precise. And there was live music all evening long. We went for the set menu, skipping the wine pairings since we don't drink much wine. The food is just as we like it. It's tasty, it's interesting, but it doesn't try to be a piece of art. The starter, pastry with cottage cheese and salmon was delicious. Fish with couscous was even better. And the steak was just perfect. Fantastic food, fantastic service and atmosphere. Highly recommend that place. Price was about 80EU per person, which included four glasses of wine. We did end up drinking quite a lot of it, but that's just because we enjoyed that place so much.

Kevin G — Google review
The food was good. Very stingy on the wine pairing. Our glasses were empty half the night. Could have brought us more bread. It’s Michelin Star. That’s. Why we went. Flavors were appealing but want s little more for the hi price.
Donna D — Google review
Even though it seems like a high quality and service restaurant, it’s not very good. They will set aside the bottles of water and wine but forget to refill throughout the whole meal. They messed up the fish orders (we ordered Turbot but got something else). Between starters and main course, it took them more than 50’. Worst thing of all: portions were EXTREMELY little, ridiculously little, and I am not talking about the fixed menu, but about the a la carte dishes. Also, there are very little options as desserts and none of them looked good, so we didn’t order anything. At the end of the dinner (11 pm), after everything was delayed because of them, they started closing the blinds of the terrace like they were kicking us out. Nevertheless, the gardens and surroundings are astonishing.
Alfonso S — Google review
Expecting an experience of their Michelin Star, and tried to roll through the mishaps, but there were too many fails. Water took about 15 minutes to arrive. Sparkling was ordered, flat was served. Later they were mixed together in a validation of the aloof service. Two dry martinis arrived swimming in ice cubes. Inflexible were they when asked if they could substitute any part of the tasting menu for a non-fish eater. Aloof again when they forgot about entire course of their own set menu. The savory courses were average and traditional, not adventurous or worthy of their star. The pastry chef impressed and was a real delight after a mediocre meal.

Chocolate shop
UauCacau is not your typical restaurant, but it's a must-visit chocolate shop in Funchal. Founded by master chocolatier Tony Fernandes, this place offers an array of delectable chocolate truffles, cakes, and other sweet treats. With over 40 different flavors inspired by the island's products like banana, mango, passion fruit, and Madeira wine, UauCacau promises a unique culinary experience.
Best chocolate & coffee! We also had good dessert! Definitely recommend!
Maria P — Google review
I’m reviewing the chocolate itself, not the place. The location looks cool and has a chill vibe, but unfortunately, the chocolates were a big letdown. They are overwhelmingly sweet, to the point of being nearly inedible—like biting into pure sugar. Perhaps this level of sweetness is common in Madeira, but it’s worth noting that consuming something this sugary isn’t great for health and could contribute to issues like diabetes. To whoever makes these chocolates: please consider balancing the flavors by keeping the outer chocolate darker and less sweet, with the sweetness concentrated in the filling. In your current recipe, both the outer chocolate and the filling are excessively sweet, which overwhelms the palate.
C. ( — Google review
They have lots of fabulous flavours in this chocolate shop. The chocolate itself is good. Some of the fruity flavours seem to be done with a jelly-like filling rather than a ganache, which has a different texture, but can probably carry more of that flavour.
Robin C — Google review
WOW caucau... That's how you pronounce it and that is how you feel after a visit. Don't miss out on a visit to one of their shops in Funchal. Only issue, they only exist in Funchal 😥 Delicious chocolates, bonbons with even more delicious fillings. A most when in Funchal!!!!!!

Very disappointing coffee. Nespresso capsules? Really?! Shameful. The chocolates are okay, but definitely not chocolate heaven. Only 2 stars.

They have only six flavours of ice cream but all of them are really good and the prices are fair. Like on the other ice cream parlours the cone is too fragile and tend to break. The staff is very nice and friendly

Super high quality chocolate with lots of creativity! I highly recommend this place :) They have many flavors to offer. I bought 10 pieces and they all are delicious, my favorite one is the passion fruit. The chocolates are very high value for money. The staff was super friendly and explained to us the flavor, truffles, and price. The store itself is very modern. I will go back for more chocolates for sure!

Pereira D'Oliveira is a renowned winery in Funchal, run by the fifth generation of the D'Oliveira family since 1820. Located behind the Colegio Church, their main wine cellars offer a memorable experience with the wonderful scent of wines stored in oak casks dating back to 1609. Visitors can enjoy free tastings from Monday to Friday and explore an aromatic barrel room where they can sample various wines accompanied by traditional Madeiran cake and crackers.
We totally enjoyed a wine tasting here. You get 2 glasses of Madeira for free here. And I chose some older Madeira wines to taste. Prices are really nice for such a high quality product. The staff is super friendly.
Anna — Google review
With a depth of D'Oliveira Maderia-style wines from the late 1800's through the present, of each major varietal, and special reserves, this is the place to go if you really want to get your feet wet - and your mouth excited by the flavor profiles of the unique Madeira wines. These are fortified wines, made in a specific fashion from the 5 major grape varietals on the island, and dating back into the 1800's which allows you to really understand the aging, bottling and vinification process thoroughly. The staff will assist you in as much detail as you can handle! There are many "buses" or "groups" that come through, but we stayed through 3 bus-loads of people.

Great place for trying Madeira wine! The best part the tasting of free : they bring you 3 types of wine each together with a traditional cake (a small piece but still nice) . No pressure to buy anything , which is great. Ended up buying some wine for souvenirs, but compared prices later on with other places - we had a good deal!

Wonderful Madeira available here. So good and so Different from very sweet to dry. They offer FREE tasting, not like Blandy’s and you can even taste very old Madeira from the century 1929 or so. You can find old and numbered bottles here. They even let you choose the number you prefer. Very welcome staff. A must see if you like Madeira. And again everything is free here for tasting and probably less crowded from tourists

The Wanderer is a unique restaurant in Funchal that draws inspiration from the extensive travels of its owner, who has explored more than 100 countries. The diverse menu showcases culinary delights from various parts of the world, encompassing dishes like Indian curry, Thai pad thai, and Lebanese falafel. Offering a vibrant array of flavors and aromas, this establishment prides itself on sourcing fresh and top-notch ingredients locally.
An amazing night at the Wanderer, I can't thank the hosts more. The cozy setting, wonderful, thought provoking food, beautifully paired drinks and hilarious company made for a really great experience. The best dining experience in Madeira (if not Europe) hands down. Grab a reservation while you can as I think it might be a little hard to get in once the world catches on to what Selim and Charlotte are doing. Wish you guys the best!
Chris A — Google review
At the Wanderer, you pay for the experience. The door is hidden so you start the evening looking for the entrance, which plays into the "wanderer" theme. The room itself only sits one table, where you dine with other strangers. My husband and I sat with a lovely family of 3. The interior is pretty cool with little bottles and pickled jars lining the walls, and the door to the bathroom is hidden in the bookshelf. The service was amazing and super attentive. You can choose to get a drink pairing with each dish, I like that it's not just wine but also different types of drinks that match each dish. The chef is there describing his inspiration the whole time, which is interesting to hear his ideas and the stories behind each dish. The food itself was very tasty and creative, with innovative combinations and unusual ingredients that really work well together. Overall it was an incredible experience and the food was worth it, but the chef's presence throughout the entire meal felt like he was asserting his opinion on us a lot. They asked what we think about each dish, which can be a bit intimidating as a customer to answer directly to the chef. It felt like he was showing off how he left his old job and never cooked before, mentioning many times how great their success has been in just one year. It came off as a bit pretentious, and essentially like he was bragging. I agree that the food is good but this is off-putting as a customer. The price was also quite expensive, but I justify that you get different dishes than normal and the service is really good. I recommend the experience and would go there again., maybe for a menu with fewer dishes for a lower price.

Last night we had the pleasure of dining at The Wanderer in Funchal. An amazing concept restaurant with no menu and one chefs table that you share with other diners. Feel free to ask anything each time you will have amazing story. It could be more expensive, we fell lucky ! Thanks for the amazing experience ❤️❤️❤️

Well if you want a journey with taste and in an open interactive, almost homely environment, you can’t go wrong with here. The price may seam a lot at first, but having eaten as some 2 and even 3 star Michelin restaurants, this is better and a lot cheaper. Of you want a prime location with great views and mediocre food, this is not your place, if you want a evening of food adventure, then please book. It’s intermit with a maximum of 6 guest for the evening with food that tastes great and different, even in every mouthful. Even if local, the chef has found a way to discover the foods of Madeira in a new and globally infused way. If you can afford a night here, you would be crazy not to.
Chris H — Google review
Personaly I felt it was an "Emperor's New Clothes" experience, all the courses were too similar in taste and texture, and think there should have been at least one hot (temperature) course. The meal for 2 people cost nearly £300. I have had far better meals, in top restaurants in various countries, for a great deal less. I am surprised the restaurant has such high reviews, and feel the food though looking impressive, is quite bland and underwhelming.
Richard ( — Google review

We booked a Christmas Eve dinner at The Wanderer, and it was a very special, amazing experience! The setting is intimate, with six seats, and you start the dinner with welcome drinks in the "living room" area with cozy sitting, then you proceed to the "dining room" with your dinner companions. The food is very creative, and is inspired by the chef's journeys and places he lived. The food is delicious, imaginative, and beautifully presented, this is a real hidden gem for foodies! An important aspect of the dinner is the company - it is an intimate setting where you will talk to strangers, discover connections, and get to talk about the dinner experience. Huge thanks for making out Christmas Eve very special!

Perfect in every way!! This is a little further down the street, and is a lovely place with the best food. We had the grilled limpits, tuna, black scabbard. All very well cooked and well presented. The price is super reasonable as well. Desserts are very good. We even got Madeira wine on the house at the end. 😊 Amazing- must try!

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant during our honeymoon. The food here was absolutely amazing! I had the pesto risotto with salmon and my husband had the octopus. Both of our dishes were so delicious that we came back to the restaurant the next day and ordered each other's original meals. We still think about how delicious this food was and if we ever go back to Madeira, this is the first place we're eating.

I’m not particularly fond of meat, so after two days of the regional beef skewer I was ready for something vegetarian. The risotto with sun-dried tomatoes and rocket was superb. My companion had fresh tuna and beef to cook on a hot stone. The service was outstanding, and I would certainly recommend booking a table in advance. And the waiter had a velvety voice – he sounded just like James Bond.

We stopped here for lunch, and it was the best decision. The food was very good compared to everything else we ate in Madeira. The staff was friendly and fast, so we decided to return today for lunch. They also serve sushi after 18.30, so maybe we ll come back for that as well. Keep up the good work! Thanks!

Found Santa Maria whilst strolling through the streets and having checked out previous recommendations we decided to order. We were not disappointed as the meal was delicious and plentiful and steak on the stone an absolute delight. The service was equally excellent. Highly recommend this little gem.
Tracey H — Google review
I chose this place based on reviews, usually the crowd is right, but not on this one. I rarely write reviews, but I couldn’t let this one go. The service was terrible, not a smile in sight. My 15 year old son turned to me, unprovoked, and said, “ all the people that work here look like Tim Burton characters…”he wasn’t wrong. There was a “blond” woman who seemed to run the place, proceeded to get into a spat with the neighboring restaurant manager. Still not sure about what, but the staff from that restaurant ( O Regional) were friendlier to us, the waiter turned to us and said “bon appetit!”. She knocked into me everytime she picked up a plate up or put it down, not just a bump, she pushed me out of her way. The whole energy was wet moppish and soggy toast, with a splash of, “we gave our last f@&$! Last week.” It’s a tourist trap, the food is fine but if you make a little effort, ask the locals, for restaurant options with real local flavor. Just to give you a sense of how much of a tourist trap it is, the menu book came in 4 or 5 different languages, local places come in Portuguese and English. Spare yourself!
John M — Google review
The food was good, with decent portion sizes. A highlight is that they offer the option to grill your steak on a hot stone right in front of you. The decor is interesting, and the location is excellent, right in the city center. The waiters seemed a bit indifferent and could be friendlier and more attentive, but to be fair, they were quite busy.

We both had the pulled pork with two sides and neither of us could finish our meal. It was huge! And we can both eat. But we were defeated. It was really nice food. The “beans” I had as one of my sides was really tasty and went perfectly with plain rice and the pork. The only criticism is that I couldn’t get a dark beer. I asked for two different ones and neither was available. Great food though and so much of it. Very good value. Update. We returned here again after a couple of days. A dark beer was back on, and neither of us could finish our meal again! Massive portions.

I really wanted this place to be good after reading the reviews, but golly, it just wasn’t. Full disclosure, I’m an American and I regularly barbecue hamburgers, steak, etc. on a grill. You want your burger to have a hint of smoky taste, be juicy on the inside and be slightly pink. Grill marks are a bonus. I ordered the Naked Burger, and while it looks good for posting on Instagram, it failed in all other categories. It was VERY dry. But not to worry, there was tons of sauce on it to hide this. It was tough to chew. It looked like it had been broiled maybe in an oven. The taste was also very bland. If you’re an American and are looking for a good burger, avoid this place and get out the grill when you get home. The service bordered on hostile when we asked for a couple more packets of ketchup for our fries. We said please and thank you in Portuguese and still couldn’t get a smile from the moment we sat from the moment we left. We understand service in Portugal is different. However, the service in restaurants in Lisbon and Porto were far more courteous and welcoming.

We Had the pulled pork fried onion rings French fries chicken wrap and a gluten free burger loved the pulled pork waitress was lovely and understandable about my daughter being a coeliac she said burger was lovely but wasn't keen on the bread was a couple of gluten free options we would go back
Miggy S — Google review
We had the smoked whole chicken. It was good flavourwise but otherwise just an ordinary roasted chicken that was too dry. Actually really dry. The salad was fresh and the barbecuesauce good. Service however a little inexperienced maybe. Cannot recommend the chicken.
Amila H — Google review
It was a nice looking place and atmosphere but the food was horrible, the meat was old, like it was made 2 days earlier. The Angus brisket was dry, they didn’t have half a chicken so we ordered pulled chicken instead and pulled brisket, it tastes horrible, not fresh, old, dry. This place is not worth it. And to top it all off we got stomach problems after eating here.
Dalal — Google review
Bit disappointed with this place, the two ladies serving were OK but looked completely bored! The burger i had looked great but wasn't all that great in taste. Also the music was Portuguese but this is supposed to be an American restaurant so I would have thought some American music would have been more appropriate. Also no toilet paper in the toilet.
Joe S — Google review
Very cozy nice place. Perfect menu - We had burrito bowl with brisket the meat was amazing full of taste. And American burger absolutely amazing , the piri-piri souce was hot like hell ( we like it much) Recommend !!!!

Bar
Venda Velha in Funchal, Madeira, is a modern interpretation of a traditional tasca from the 20th century. The bar pays homage to the past with vintage decor like 1920s radios and wall lanterns. Its exterior resembles a classic home, and guests can enjoy drinks around its perimeter, especially on warm summer nights. Located in old Funchal, Venda Velha captures the ambiance of older bars while offering cocktails and music with DJs for entertainment.
Probably the best poncha in Funchal. There really isn't much more to say than that. It's a hole in the wall for sure and it doesn't really catch your eye but this is the one place that all the locals recommended to me for poncha. It's definitely not the ONLY place but every poncha I tried here was fresh and delicious, and it's properly sized for the price (which you can't say for some of the more touristy spots).
Jeremy U — Google review
Really not impressed. €3.50 for the smallest glass of poncha ever and was quite weak compared to others we’d had in Madeira. Staff not very helpful and were playing awful music really loud. Wouldn’t recommend
Kane M — Google review
Poncha was pretty good, quite pricey compared to other places. Staff were very rude and not welcoming, clearly did not like tourists
Lucy B — Google review
24 shots(1 meter) of different ponchas(not the tastiest ones) for 18 EUR. By my calculations 0.6litter, with rum max 0.25 in it. Do not know about anything else. As complimentary bartender gave peanuts. Portuguese music there. Was good starting point for rest of the night.
M. K — Google review
Good place to taste a wide variety of Poncha. The place is typical and the service is relaxed. The ponchas could be bigger. Very small glasses
Carlos D — Google review
Very nice bartender. Explained the extensively what the drinks was and how it was prepared. Tried the capinegro.
Manuel G — Google review
Touristic spot with a severe anti-tourist attitude. We walked in, hoping to order two cocktails at the bar, and were met with absolute indifference. One bartender was too busy socializing with his mother and a small child who was literally walking on the bar with her shoes – he looked directly at us multiple times but couldn't even manage a simple 'hello.' The other bartender saw us too but also chose to completely ignore us. We tried sitting at a table next to the bar, thinking it might help, but still nothing. We eventually gave up and left. Seriously, skip this place if you want to avoid being ignored and feeling unwelcome!
Monica G — Google review
Good service, the atmosphere was amazing and lively, the drinks are really delicious, and the location is excellent in the old town of Funchal, Locals and tourists flock here, and it gets so busy that everyone spills onto the surrounding streets, a great place to visit in Funchal.

Hotel
The Three House Hotel, Bar & Restaurant is a stylish and modern aparthotel located in the heart of Funchal, Madeira. It offers sleek units with minimalist decor and natural elements-inspired design. The hotel features an outdoor swimming pool, rooftop saltwater infinity pool with a cocktail bar, Mediterranean sunbathing terrace, and luscious gardens. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar and restaurant as well as fitness classes and a fitness studio.
It’s was our first time on Madeira and we can highly recommend a couple of days in Funchal and staying in the The Three Hotel. First of all the location couldn’t be better. Close to everything. The rooms are great. New, modern, spacious. It’s more apartments than rooms with a separate bedroom. The rooftop pool and bar are incredible. The view over the old town and the sea perfect. And the service of the staff is great as well. Always ready to recommend. And the WhatsApp info with tips and tricks much appreciated. One thing to note. There’s no breakfast until 10.00 when the restaurant opens. Except for croissants on the door in the morning. There’s plenty of options in the surroundings of the hotel but we’d prefer breakfast nevertheless. And note to hotel - the beds are quite soft. If you invest, please do prioritize the mattresses.
Bart V — Google review
This hotel is like paradise. Amazingly clean, spacious rooms. Staff is kind and goes above and beyond for your needs. Great rooftop with a beautiful pool. Fun DJ’s and events on the weekend. Food from the restaurant is great too!
Fleur — Google review
Our stay at Three House Hotel was fantastic, we didn’t want to leave! We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and it was clean, modern, and the perfect place to relax. Everything you could think of was provided- coffee/ tea facilities, kitchen utensils (everything to make your own food), hairdryer, ironing board and iron, and a laundry washing/ drying machine and pods, and fresh water fountain for all guest to use for free. The hotel staff were very polite and helpful. We rented a car through the hotel and they organised everything. The car park was free to use and we always got a space. Location was great- near the marina, cable car and central shopping area. The food at the restaurant is 10/10 with excellent service. We had dinner twice and a brunch meal just to try as much of the menu as possible. We also attended the BBQ Friday night event which had excellent food and cocktails, with beautiful views on the sunset. We will be staying here again if we re-visit the island
Steph W — Google review
The food at Theee House Restaurant is great. The desserts and grilled meats in particular stand out as exceptional. The chocolate mousse was made from a delicious dark chocolate and allowed the bitter dark chocolate to stand out without being to sweet. The cardamom ice cream was the perfect accompaniment to the bitter dark chocolate. The pistachio tiramisu had a delicious coffee flavor and the candied pistachios added a nice crunch to the texture. The almond and coconut tempura for the scabbard fish was great giving a nice crunch and flavor to the fish. The grilled ribeye was our favorite savory dish, the chef selected quality beef and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The sourdough bread is a highlight that must be ordered and they also make a delicious homemade hot sauce that was perfect for the tacos. We tried other items on the menu such as the baos, french onion soup, and drunken noodles. While all good, they didn't hit the same high mark as the grilled meats, desserts, and sourdough bread. If we're back in Madeira we'd probably stay at this hotel instead of where we were, the location is great and the restaurant and bar are excellent.
Ian E — Google review
This hotel was the highlight of our time in Funchal, the staff were so helpful with everything. The room and hotel had everything you need and the restaurant and bar were both really good quality. Location is also perfect, can't recommend it highly enough.
James J — Google review
Three House is amazing. There are too many little great things to list (beyond the great location, apartments, decor, restaurant and rooftop bar), but it just feels like there is so much attention to detail across the entire experience. We now plan trips to Madeira around when there is availability at Three House.
Brian M — Google review
I have no words to describe how amazing our stay at this hotel has been: comfort, incredible apartments, and above all, the excellent service we received both from the cleaning staff and the hotel receptionists. They have provided outstanding service through their kindness, their suggestions for visiting the island and restaurants, and their constant incredible friendliness. We highly recommend this hotel. We will be back!!!

Just came for drinks. Tried a few kinds and honestly wasn't a fan. Very creative but missing some classica and no sweeter cocktails. Staff were okay but didn't find them particularly friendly. Beautiful location though!

Restaurant
Restaurante Terreiro Concept, part of the Savoy Group, offers a unique dining experience in Funchal. The establishment is described as a gastro-bar with classy food and service. Set in a charming garden within the Savoy complex, the restaurant provides an upscale dining atmosphere. While prices are on the higher side, patrons praise the good quality of dishes such as pork belly and steak. The outdoor terrace offers a delightful setting for enjoying meals, even without prior reservations.
I had the pleasure of dining at Terreiro Concept, located within the Savoy Palace, and it was an outstanding experience. The food was simply fantastic, both in terms of quality and quantity. Every dish was expertly prepared, and the flavors were exquisite. The restaurant’s décor is elegant and stylish, creating a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere. It truly complements the high-end experience. The staff were attentive and made sure every aspect of the meal was perfect. I highly recommend Terreiro Concept for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Funchal!

Fire Pit Concept it was sold as a nice food and drinks experience , a Madeirese cuisine story for your palate. The chef will interact with the group and exercises his creativity in a unique delightful menu paired with cocktails and wine. Price €62 pp with a welcome cocktail, €85 pp with unlimited drinks.Unfortunately was set menu for 24 people , no interaction from the chef with customers as it was advertised, limited wine selection ( single type red or white ), food was interesting but not wow , beef was cooked at chef preferences guests were not asked how they will like it. The atmosphere and ambience were great due to customers interaction. Generally speaking overpriced experience so I’ll not recommend it .

Lovely service+ delicious meal beautifully cooked and presented. Very nice restaurant. Red snapper was excellent. Cocktail bar downstairs also excellent quality+service. All staff very pleasant.
Diane S — Google review
During a weeks stay at the Savoy Palace we enjoyed dinner at Terreiro three times. The fact that we went back twice after our first visit says enough. It's just a better overall experience than the regular restaurants in the city. Food delicious and well prepared, service is kind and professional. Best tables are on the balcony with a view on the garden. After dinner a short walk through the garden enjoying the special flora.
Sander W — Google review
I booked this restaurant for my birthday, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the food was disappointing. The fried octopus was quite greasy, and the rice was fairly average. Others dining with me shared the same opinion about the food. This was surprising as I had read good reviews beforehand. The service was okay – the staff were friendly, but it was difficult to get their attention at times.
Eliana B — Google review
maybe average food but service is a circus. Honestly have no idea how it could be this slow and uninvolved. Over 20 minutes before i’m greeted by a server to order and 60 minutes + had to walk to the front host to get my food. Laughably bad, but on the day of my arrival after I spent 14 hours on trains/flights, very frustrating. cheese was fine but the salad was too sweet. steak was fine, but the sauce was extremely salty. I had to wipe the steak with a napkin and couldn’t eat any of the potatoes that soaked the sauce.
Felix P — Google review
Excellent. Fabulous service and cuisine. Very attentive and professional staff, a real eye for detail. The food was excellent, great wines too. We felt very well looked after and can highly recommend.

We had a wonderful meal at Restaurante Terreiro. Sit outside, beautiful spot, very relaxing. The food was wonderful, varied menu catering for many tastes. We had Atlantic Wine from Madeira with the meal which was also wonderful. And the team that serve you give impeccable service.- just the right balance of being special yet relaxed. Loved it here, will be back.

This restaurant, located in the bustling Funchal district, serves up some of the best Mediterranean and European dishes around. The focus is always on using the most fresh and quality ingredients, resulting in dishes that are truly special. Indulge in grilled sirloin steak or black scabbard with prawns; both are mouth-watering choices. There's also a wide variety of other lunch and dinner dishes to try, as well as scrumptious brunch options on weekends.
Excellent food great service. I had veg soup and traditional Portuguese bread for starters and shrimp risotto. All freshly prepared and very testy. Also reasonably priced:-) paid for all (+ 3 ciders ) €31

The Risotto de Camarão was sensational, moist, perfectly al dente, and fresh. I highly recommend it. The octopus was delicious, and flavorful. The espetada was well-cooked, juicy, and tender. The stunning view over the ocean and the impeccable service made my stay truly unforgettable.

Lee is is a wonderful restaurant. Great menu and food, served by professional and friendly service, in a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Andy S — Google review
I reserved the table through Google. When we came they confirmed my name and showed tables that we can sit. Another waiter came and told us to move, that we cannot sit here, even though table didn't have " reserved" tag on it. First impression was ruined and I was ready to leave. He didn't apologize or explained why he was rude for customers. My excitement for this place was gone. Thanks to chef - food was delicious. Do you think, I'll come again? Probably not. So many places value their customers.

We stopped by Leeno’s Restaurant for appetizers and tried the squid and limpets. The sauces were excellent — rich in flavor and perfectly balanced — but the seafood itself was a little on the chewy side in my opinion. Service was great, attentive, and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming. A nice spot to enjoy a light bite with great service and a pleasant setting.
Georgescu A — Google review
The services was very slow, some members of our party had already finished their meal whilst others hadnt received their food. The tuna was overcooked and the chicken fajitas and seafood pasta were bland. The steak on the stone was good and the asparagus risotto was also nice. Nice view of the sea and the sangria was good. Staff did their best albeit not up to par with the other restaurants we have been to during our stay.
Zoe B — Google review
Returned to Leeno’s after a great meal there last year, this time with friends. No one was disappointed, good, simple service and excellent food and a warm atmosphere without too much noise allowing conversation. Steak Fajitas, Linguine and grilled steak were all great and a special mention for two desserts - the Lemon Mousse and the Apple Charlotte. I re-ordered the Charlotte to confirm that it was as good as I remembered - still the best dessert I have ever had - be warned though, make sure you leave enough room for a generous portion. A great night again, thank you Leenos and see you again on our next visit to Madeira in March.
