Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre offers a fascinating experience for visitors, featuring multimedia exhibitions on hydro-electricity, dam history, and salmon breeding. The center is open throughout the year and boasts an excellent exhibition area with interactive models showcasing electricity generation and the journey of salmon through the fish ladder. Additionally, there's a cozy cafe with a balcony offering scenic views of the dam, as well as a gift shop stocked with local souvenirs.
We absolutely loved the entire town. Our visit was spontaneous—we took a train from Glasgow and reached the town in about an hour and 45 minutes. The town is easily accessible from the railway station. We spent around 45 minutes exploring the dam and about 3 hours wandering through the town. Luckily, it was a sunny day. You can easily plan a visit without much preparation.
Poornima K — Google review
A very interesting visit, the walk on the dam wall has astonishing views of the river and the salmon ladder is a clever way to compensate the intrusion in their ecosystem. A visit to the visitors centre puts everything in context while you enjoy a nice coffee with a view, worth the visit!
Shubhaa — Google review
My favourite place to stroll around in the autumn. Love to sit on the balcony with a soup, admiring the colours of autumn. The dam is a very old hydroplant, one of the oldest in Scotland - still fully functional with a fish tunnel for our salmons coming back home. Worth a visit for an afternoon.
Lenka M — Google review
Very nice place, easy to walk true, include a few steps so need to be careful if you have a older person or disabled. Good to see the fish ladder and the live camera footage. Didn't see anything while was there but still nice, and belive a few lucky people see the salmons passing.
Gyorgy V — Google review
Beautiful view of the river and dam, modern and informative hands-on exhibits, clean bathrooms, cafe and gift shop make this a fantastic stop. You can stay 20 minutes or 2 hours at your own pace.
Nicole R — Google review
One of the best tourist spot in the way to Scotish expedition. Great location and children has to learn from it regarding salmons life as well as hydro power station.
Anil T — Google review
Plenty of space to have a little sit down. Property maintained very well. The steps down to the dam view may be a little difficult for some people. Benches are around to have a view of the water. People can be seen fishing. Restaurant available on the other side of the bridge. Flowing water is accessible by foot.
Lauren D — Google review
Pitlochry Dam is an absolute must-visit! The recent upgrades have made viewing the incredible salmon run so much easier and more engaging. The new facilities offer fantastic, clear views of the salmon battling upstream, making for an unforgettable experience. It's a wonderful blend of natural wonder and engineering marvel, perfect for all ages. Highly recommended!

Atholl Palace Museum, situated in the hotel's basement, offers a captivating journey into the town's history. It provides insights into the lives of guests and workers from 140 years ago. Visitors can explore compelling exhibits featuring past staff members who immigrated to Pitlochry to support their families by working at the hotel. The museum also showcases a fascinating film documenting the hotel's rich history, making it an educational and immersive experience for all visitors.
Very educational, loved the pictures of past staff. How they emigrated to work in pitlochry to earn money for their families, they made the hotel and earned their keep in the hotel back then but now all i'd recommend is visiting the museum as the hotel now is absolutely disgraceful or how it was then to how it is now.

Welcome to top sirloin food where you’ll pay high price for cheap steak, small rooms, creaky floors and uncomfortable beds. Awesome view but awful food for the price. when they cleaned the room, they knock at 0900 waking us up and don’t replace basic things like the water.
J B — Google review
It's cool to learn about the hotel's history if you're a guest, but I wouldn't come all the way here if I hadn't been
Mindy H — Google review
This place is over priced for a stay if you book through the hotel , even tho I stayed three night it was dated and not maintained well ,tap fell off tiles floor had movement in them so to me it was three star . And spa was not even open !!!...the good points was the food was good so was the gardens and some of the staff where 5 star but one or two of them let them down . Been in better hotels for what I pay for here !!!

Boring tiny museum (a corridor basically) Not worth going out of your way to visit. Maybe if you're staying in the hotel it'll kill 5 mins

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is a unique attraction in the Highlands, offering a diverse range of productions and featuring a cafe-bar with scenic river views. The theatre has an interesting history, with its founder leaving a note during World War II that led to the establishment of the festival in 1951. Overlooking the River Tummel, it is easily accessible from Pitlochry and provides ample parking.
We got incredibly lucky at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, managing to bag the last two tickets for "Nan Shepherd: Naked and Unashamed" for that day. Having already fallen in love with charming Pitlochry while staying in a nearby shepherd's hut, learning about the show meant we simply had to go – and we are so incredibly glad we did. This two-hander was an immensely engaging play, a testament to the clever writing by Richard Baron and Ellie Zeegen. Its immersive nature and thoughtful design truly drew us in. Adam Buksh and Susan Coyle delivered tremendous performances, with Adam Buksh seamlessly embodying multiple characters with impressive elan. The narrative, especially being about Nan Shepherd while in the Highlands, felt deeply resonant and culturally enriching. The Pitlochry Festival Theatre itself left a strong impression. We watched the play in the Studio, and the seats were exceptionally comfortable. The views would be excellent from anywhere in the studio, a credit to its design. The director clearly kept the venue's features in mind, which only served to elevate the play further. Learning more about the theatre's history and mission afterward made us even more appreciative of our visit. For me, there's truly no better way to understand a place than to engage with its arts scene. Experiencing a play about Nan Shepherd while immersed in the Highlands felt like a uniquely perfect cultural moment. It was a truly memorable and highly recommended experience!

Fantastic venue. The surrounding grounds are beautiful. The Explorers garden worth a visit too. We went to see The 39 Steps. Brilliant, highly recommend. The 4 actors playing all different characters. Really enjoyed ourselves.
Michelle C — Google review
Absolutely lovely and so fun. An intimate stage experience with talented artists and a wonderful story. The building is clean and bright and modern in a storied landscape and garden that is entirely walkable and photo-worthy. Head over early to enjoy a leisurely stroll, a cup of tea or coffee, or a dram. The gift shop is worth perusing. Bathrooms are gendered rooms with stalls.
J S — Google review
Lovely theatre. Easy to get to. Good toilet facilities. Lovely choice in the cafeteria. Good views. You also have a lovely garden to explore next door and not far from the dam.
Tufty — Google review
Just saw 'A Toast Fae The Lassies' at Pitlochry theatre studio and it was magnificent! The acting was excellent and the singing outstanding. The musicianship was first class. The intimacy of the Pitlochry theatre studio helped, but the show deserves a national audience. Well done everyone involved, well done Pitlochry Festival Theatre!

Pitlochry Dam is a must-visit when in the area. The new Visitor Centre offers stunning views of the dam, hydro station, and Loch Faskally from its cantilevered position over the River Tummel. A walk from Pitlochery Recreation ground car park to the dam provides an educational experience for kids with well-marked signage and a visitor center at the top. The surrounding area is beautiful, perfect for a leisurely walk or observing salmon.
Beautiful area to have a walk, watch the salmons and relax. The surrounding area is just beautiful, with a couple of bars and the Fonab Castle Hotel near by (a bad place to work, but beautiful place stay).
Daniel H — Google review
December 2024: Worth a visit if in the area. Lovely interactive (free) visitor centre and cafe on site. It is possible to walk across the dam wall, look into the pumping area and also see the salmon ladder. Great views on a clear day. A nice, peaceful attraction to visit. Car park on site next to the visitor centre or more car parks further in town a short walk away. Hope to revisit and see the dam in operation one day!
Christian E — Google review
It is a small dam but perfectly formed, with main generation plant in behind the dam itself and windows along the walkway allow you to view inside, but not a lot to see. There are large booms across the loch to keep logs from doing damage and paths from here go round Loch Faskally so a good walking area. There is a new visitor centre if you want to find out more.
Joseph K — Google review
A small working hydroelectric dam with a great visitor centre and a salmon leap series of pools , you can walk right over the top looking at the recently created loch Faskelly and down the Tummel valley
Tork M — Google review
It’s nice to visit if you’re in the area, it’s a nice opportunity for a pretty walk on either sides of the dam. Was nothing break taking though, so if you’re on a time crunch I’d miss this.

Pitlochry Golf Course is a premier destination for golf enthusiasts of all levels. The 18-hole course offers stunning views of the Tummel Valley and Ben Vrackie, creating a picturesque backdrop for a day on the green. With well-maintained fairways and greens, it caters to both seasoned players and beginners. After a round, golfers can unwind at the welcoming clubhouse with refreshments and scenic vistas.
Great course experience and friendly people working around the club. Pro shop is well stocked and they go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Will definitely play here again.
Nate O — Google review
Played the pairs open at Pitlochry today. The course was in great condition. Fairways were like carpets and the greens were superb. Staff in the pro shop and bar were really friendly. Tried the food after the golf. We both had burgers. They had been pre cooked and reheated and the cheese was cremated. Not good value for what we paid. Overall great day and will definitely return ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️
Phil H — Google review
Extremely fun golf course. Very friendly pro shop got me set up with a surprisingly nice set of rental clubs as I was traveling. Course isn't long, but makes it challenging with layout. Almost no even lies in the fairways. Greens are fast and subtle. Elevation changes makes short holes long, and some par 4s drivable. Whipping winds added a layer too. Absolutely thrilled I got to check off a bucket list item of playing golf in Scotland and didn't have to break the back to have an awesome afternoon, and weather was gorgeous. Writing this review while enjoying a pint and watching the Women's Open at St Andrews on the projector screen in the clubhouse restaurant. A great day for golf!
Luke A — Google review
Lovely setting, gorgeous views! Range is perfect when raining.. well covered !! Short iron range is a great addition and putting green in great condition. Pro shop is well stocked, membership price is more than decent - only downside is visitor green fee is slightly too dear for me to try this time 🥲 but the course looks pristine !! 🤩 Update: Played the course today with my son.. in great condition for the time of year, course layout was fantastic with challenging playing yardages! Pro was great and food after was lovely 👌 would love to play again !!
Josh F — Google review
Visited whilst on holiday, really looking forward to using the driving range. Venue looked great but unfortunately they do not hire clubs out as per the website ‘Our family friendly facility has clubs available for hire and is open 7 days a week from dawn till dusk.’ Disappointing due to the misinformation, would recommend you update this to avoid wasting peoples time. Venue looked lovely.
Ash B — Google review
A very warm welcome by the pro shop, reduced green fee in the afternoon / twilight. Not busy at all and it was a perfect 🌞 day. The course is a gem right in the heart of Scotland. It might seem short, but challenging nonetheless. Prepare to take some photos/videos of the stunning scenery. Highly recommended!!
Olav L — Google review
Played 18 holes late afternoon. Would have liked to go back a day later but the prices for a morning round were double, even given itcwas not busy. It's a pretty course with some interesting holes, beware the first couple as it's uphill all the way.
James H — Google review
Scenic course in the scottish highlands. Due to it being in the mountains, expect alot of elevations changes. One is constantly shooting up or down hill, which is plenty fun but also rather challenging. As it is a less known course, it gives off a more relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Definitely give this course a try if you’re looking for a change from the typical links course.

Pitlochry Putting Green is a charming 18-hole course that offers good fun for all ages with a mix of difficulty. The friendly staff and dog-friendly policy make it an enjoyable experience. Unlike other putting greens, this one is not flat, providing a more challenging game. It's conveniently located next to Pitlochry market and the salmon ladder, making it a nice way to spend some time after exploring the town.

The Dunfallandy Stone is a remarkable ancient structure that was originally part of the tomb of Lieutenant-General Archibald Fergusson of Dunfallandy, dating back to 1834. It is now on display for public viewing, showcasing an impressive array of iconic symbols and imagery from over 2,000 years ago.
One of the most detailed early medieval Pictish carved stones. Incorporating both a cross and traditional symbols, this provides a glimpse of a lost language and culture.
HistoryNeedsYou — Google review
Located about a 10 minute walk from the Port-na-Craig suspension bridge, it’s definitely worth a visit if interested in Pictish remains or old monuments more generally. The information board at the site does the job nicely and gives decent background info. Access is through farm road and up around 20 or so steps. Family cemetery to rear of stone also worth a quick look.
A T — Google review
Nice little hidden gem which doesn’t seem to get many visitors. Located a short walk (10/15mins) outside of Pitlochry or a 5 min drive. There is parking for 1/2 cars just inside gates and then it’s a short walk up farm road. Located on a working farm so watch out for farm traffic. Access to stone is via a steep staircase but it’s worth the climb. Also site of what looks like family graves. Stone is behind glass and covered for its protection with a good information plaque.
K S — Google review
Lovely wee hidden treasure, the stone is located up a steep set of steps so not great if you have mobility issues. Parking seemed to be in the farm yard at the bottom of the hill. The stone is protected behind glass there is a information Notice to explain. There is a lovely wee private cemetery located next to the stone.
Alistair M — Google review
Lovely little site, rarely visited. Easy access from Pitlochry
Gordon H — Google review
The Dunfallandy Stone is a Class II Pictish Stone aged around 600-843 during the Christian-Pictish era. On one side of the stone depicts a stag, Jonah being swallowed by a fish-tailed Ketos (an early Christian version of the biblical whale), two cherubim, and large Celtic cross with circular cross in the middle and on the other side is an enthroned couple, a horseman, several Pictish beasts, crescent moon and V-Rod, iron working tools, and mirrored Carnyx the Celtic wind instrument.

A fair walk up a very nimble staircase to reach the stone lovely wee churchyard
Carol R — Google review
This is not too far out of Pitlochry and a must for those with an interest in Scottish history. We’ve visited many standing stones but none were as detailed as this. Amazing that something as old as this can still be so beautiful and designs so clear. There is a small hill and about 50 steps to climb, but worth the effort! A small lay-by to park in by the road, and a lovely descriptive board by the stone, no other facilities.

Nestled on Church Road in the picturesque town of Pitlochry, the Pitlochry Church of Scotland stands as a vibrant hub for the local community. This Presbyterian church not only serves as a place of worship but also hosts various events and celebrations throughout the year. During special occasions like Easter Sunday, it transforms into a lively gathering spot where visitors partake in meaningful traditions, such as adding daffodils to a cross and enjoying delightful performances by the choir.
Church was full on Easter Sunday. Each visitor was given a daffodil to add to the cross at the front of the church. Special activities for the children (basket of Easter eggs circulated round the church while the choir sang an anthem). Rousing hymns for the congregation, expertly accompanied on the organ. Special hymn written for the occasion, sung by choir and congregation, and accompanied on the keyboard by the composer.
David W — Google review
Seems to be a very lovely church, it seems to only be open for the services (every Sunday at 10 am). It’s very nice to see a church so well kept and seemingly wheelchair accessible.

Call in hear on Christmas Eve for the evening Service. Both of the Pitlochery congregations were in for the service and it was full. Pitlochry Recreation Ground is a well-maintained outdoor space with various amenities for both kids and adults. The active kids park offers climbing frames, trampolines, swings, and a skate park. Additionally, there are features like tunnels, sand diggers, slides, and a giant spider's web that go beyond the typical playground experience. The area also provides ample seating and free parking.
Loved the Highland Nights. Great entertainment. Pipes, dancers and singers were fantastic and the gentleman that hosted was the funniest host I've seen for a long time. So entertaining 😂 😄 😂 Worth every penny for a fabulous evening
Dorinda W — Google review
We were recommended this playground by the owner at the Westlands Of Pitlochry, who mentioned it would be a good choice, he was right. A great location a short stroll from the town centre. A nice place to sit while the kids play, with activities for various bigger areas, including a small scare park. There is also a few tracks to walk along by the river or the bridge to the Festival Theatre is right behind the play park. There was one porteloo, but no other public toilets from what I could see. A good amount of parking if you were driving there.

A half hour stop here half way through a longer journey was very welcome by our 3 boys. This is such a well kept area. The playground is fantastically well equipped, plenty of seating, free parking and a great skate park. And then there’s all that space to run around too. Absolutely lovely

Hiking area
Ben Vrackie offers a pleasant and not overly steep walk to Loch a'Choire, followed by a challenging climb with mostly stone steps. The top provides stunning views, but it can be cool and windy, so dressing appropriately is essential. The weather at the summit can differ from the bottom, so visitors should be prepared for changing conditions. This relatively easy out-and-back walk from the car park takes about two hours and is recommended for visitors to Pitlochry.
Cold but clear day. Crampons used as the steps after the loch were frozen Wind on the tops but the views were immense

Ben Vrackie in Pitlochry offers an unforgettable mountain trekking experience in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The route takes you through lush meadows, serene lochs, and enchanting tiny forests, providing a perfect mix of natural beauty. The panoramic views from the summit are absolutely stunning, offering a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding landscape. It’s a challenging yet rewarding hike, ideal for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking to immerse themselves in Scotland’s rugged wilderness. Whether you're enjoying the peaceful solitude of the woods or the breathtaking vistas, Ben Vrackie is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts.

A great climb, an initial walk through woodland before opening out to Moorland with a fairly easy path. Good walk up to the Loch before ascending up rocky steps all the way to the summit. It's quite a steep climb, and sadly, we saw nothing due the usual Scottish weather. So I guess might need to re-climb sometime 😅. Took us 2.5hrs up & down, approx 10km walk

Beautiful hike! We had great weather which helps 😊. A little bit windy near the top. From Pitlochry downtown it took us 5h to climb up and back (with a lunch break).

Walk to Loch a'Choire is pleasant and not overly steep. Once at the Loch the 'real' climb up Ben Vrackie starts. It is mostly stone steps, but up hill all the way! Stunning views from the top. Cool and windy at the top... so dress appropriate and be prepared for changing weather... hot walking up, cool and blowy and top, and pleasant walking down! It was dry under foot so was not slippery except for the odd few loose stones.

Ben Vrackie is a great walk if you are visiting Pitlochry. A relatively easy walk out and back from the carpark can be completed in a couple of hours. Ben Vrackie is just shy of being a Munro and the weather at the top can be very different to the weather at the bottom so pack for all weathers.

Brilliant walk does get tough just before the top but worth it for the view

I think it took me an hour walking to get to the actual steep mountain (which I didn’t climb because it was soo windy I would have blown off the mountain lol), but it is still worth it for amazing gorgeous views!! All you can is hills, it’s great for some away time from civilisation for a bit! It is pretty upwards but not steep, i didn’t find it hard, but other people had to stop along the way. wrap up warm because it can get cold and windy! also in some parts have to mindful of poopoos

Art center
For Art Sake in Pitlochry is a fantastic craft studio located on the main street, offering a delightful experience of painting pottery, canvases, and clay. It's an ideal place for creating personalized gifts, enjoying family painting sessions, or simply unwinding with some art. The attentive hosting by Pauline adds to the charm as she assists in selecting colors and guiding kids through their artistic endeavors.
We had my little girl's seventh birthday party here and all the kids had a great time! Andrea did a great job of looking after us and was more than happy to help the children with the trickier bits, like painting eyes and lips. All in all, we were there for just over an hour, which was just about right for children of that age. The kids were delighted with their little pieces to take home, which saved me having to think about party bags and all that nonsense! All in all, a great experience - a huge thank you to Pauline and the team!

Pauline is a great host, shipping colours to us, helping the kids get their statues covered in glitter, colour and even did the eyes for them to finish it off. You can take the acrylic ones home that day, but if you want it to be glazed /fired you need to be in pitlochry for 3 days or so. It's not cheap, but it's a fun thing to do if it's raining out and the service / hosting is attentive, great for arty fun. About £10-15 for a single statue, but you can pay up to £35 for a larger piece like a vase.

Faskally Forest is a stunning location with wooded trails surrounding a loch that boasts kingfishers and herons. The area offers breathtaking views of the river, mountains, summer water lilies, and fall colors. Whether rain or shine, Faskally Forest is magical and has ample parking and some of the nicest public restrooms available.
Lovely walk! Scenic and full of nature while being accessible for wheelchairs and folk who can’t walk that far – the walk around the lake is just over a kilometre. There are some ups and downs, but I had no problem with my powerchair. Even though the walk was short, there was so much to see: old, mossy woods, fascinating rock outcroppings and my personal highlight – a heron in flight and lots of evidence of hungry beavers!

Beautiful Forrest walk with an amazing light installation exhibition. We went in the day, so clearly not showing the lights off, at their best. No litter anywhere, clean toilets and good parking.

Excellent evening of enchantment. Adults and kids in tow, everyone loved the experience. Was concerned about ticket cost. However, slick Q system for shuttle bus there and back. Beautiful sound and light exhibitions throughout made it all worth while. Well done to all evolved, especially the wonderful team on site, guiding you and helping where needed. Hat off to you all

As part of my 60th birthday presents, my daughter's had arranged to take me to see The Enchanted Forest. It was my 1st time and totally loved it. My daughter's had been before to see the event, which they totally loved, and to check how disabled friendly it actually was. With being disabled they had bought a ticket for disabled parking and they said it was so much easier doing this than getting on a bus in Pitlochry. The Stewards/staff were so very helpful and friendly. A couple of times when we had stopped to watch an attraction, they would approach us and speak to me asking how I was enjoying the experience etc. which was very nice. Last year when my daughter's went (it was raining) and they found a few parts of the walk slippery. But this year, I had no issues with the walkways. One Steward explained that from the money raised from previous year's they reinvest money back into the Event and they had upgraded the walkways 😊.. which meant that 1/2 way round when the rain came on this year, there was no slippery parts of the path while finishing the experience. I would totally recommend this event to anyone, especially people with mobility issues 😊. I've found a few (while being on holiday) have stated Disable friendly but were not exactly 100% easy to do/use/experience. Definitely no issues at The Enchanted Forest, Pitlochry 😊.

Beautiful autumn colours ! Visited the Enchanted Forest installation- but wished we had booked an earlier slot (we went for the 8.15 slot but didn’t board the bus until 8.50 it was so busy) only had chance to walk the loop once before being ushered back to the bus
