The Heights of Abraham is a hilltop park in the UK, accessible by an Alpine cable car system that offers visitors an exciting aerial ride over the Derwent Valley. Once a lead-mining site, it has been transformed into a visitor center with wooded areas for leisurely strolls and stunning views.
This was an absolute brilliant day out. Started off riding the cable cars up to the top, beautiful scenery to look out. It all felt quite safe! The actual place at the top had plenty of things to see and do! From Wombles to the Caves it was great fun! We had a brilliant explorer for the caves- The Other Steve - he was so full of knowledge and enjoyed sharing it. Kept me interested all the way through and the light show at the end was a great surprise! Great day out and we all enjoyed it!

Had a fantastic day here. The staff were fantastic. The in character staff were amazing and so friendly and knowledgeable. Special shout goes to Mel who showed us round one of the caves. She was fantastic and a real credit to you. So funny and knowledgable. There’s lots to do up there. The cable car ride is great. 2 caves to tour and plenty of fun for the kids on the play grounds. The cafe was brilliant. Had a lovely panini in there and some lovely cake. We came on a weekday outside of the school holidays and didn’t have to wait for anything. Lots of walking to be done and some is rather steep.
Craig B — Google review
We had an absolutely wonderful experience here today. It was our first time visiting and had no idea what to expect, but what a day we had. I’ve come to write a review because I want to give recognition to Lorin, the lovely guy that did our Cavern tour. He was so helpful, approachable, and even took the time out to stay back and show us some fossils in the final cavern, because my autistic son’s special interest is dinosaurs. He was brilliant with both of my children and made the tour really quite special. Give this man a raise immediately HoA! 🥲🤣
Emma C — Google review
Great couple of hours at least spent with great views . The Cave experience is informative and interesting. The cafe is very good with great selection at reasonable prices. parking is in the station carpark payable . Blue badge holders can pay for time and get an hour ontop free. It is a short walk to the cable car ticket office. Just be aware that the last 150yard to Ticket office is steep.

EXCELLENT! This is an interesting way to spend the day on your holiday! Excellent, very well manned cable carts to take you to the hill/mountain? At the top, you’re instantly met with more helpful staff full of information on where to go and what you can do. There’s two caves, both equally interesting totally made by the excellent curation and delivery or stories by the guides (Jordan and Bessie were first class). There’s two excellent play areas suitable for most ages (above toddler I think). Fabulous cafe, where we had excellent service by Sue plus the views were spectacular! I was super impressed they had a variety of gluten free vegan cakes (that were not the usual boring brownies!). They also had two bars ( one is the oldest licensed bar in Matlock). There’s also a Wombles building, a couple of lovely gift shops, lots of information, a pizza van and more. The views are incredible. Overall, this is great value for money and something the children will not forget.
Hayley B — Google review
Excellent place for the kids day out. Lots things to do and see. Nice cafe and play ground. Stunning views during the cable car and from the top. Most amazing mining tunnels and the guide was excellent
Manisankar K — Google review
Heights of Abraham is a fantastic family destination—perfect for both toddlers and older kids, with plenty of land to explore, play areas, and exhibits to keep everyone entertained. We especially enjoyed the Wombles exhibition—it was fun and whimsical, and offered something a bit different. The views from the hilltop are absolutely lovely, trampling over the Derwent Valley and surrounding countryside, making the cable car ride all the more magical. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about—not quite matching the beauty of the surroundings. I was also disappointed that they didn’t have a chai latte on the drinks menu, and vegan soft serve ice cream wasn’t available—both would have been great choices to round off a lovely day. Admission is on the steep side: adult tickets cost about £25 online or £28.50 at the gate . It felt quite expensive, especially for a shorter visit, but with a longer stay it might be more justifiable. Overall, it’s a beautiful and memorable place with a lot to offer families. With improvements to the food and drink options, it would be near-perfect!
Chloe B — Google review
Wonderful day out, perfect for dogs also, they are allowed everywhere but caverns and the Vista restaurant. Food a little pricey but picnic tables are everywhere for a packed lunch. The cable car stops half way up for stunning view pictures.

The Peak District Mining Museum is located in a picturesque limestone gorge and offers interactive exhibits, including climbing shafts. Visitors can also explore the Temple Mine and the Matlock Bath Aquarium. Additionally, the area features Gulliver's Kingdom theme park and hosts annual Illuminations and Venetian nights in September and October. The region's history as a tourist resort for the wealthy dates back to 1698 when warm springs were discovered, attracting visitors seeking relaxation.
I decided to visit the highly recommended Peak District Mining Museum while I was in Matlock, and it was well worth the trip. The museum features a variety of mining artefacts, as well as an impressive collection of crystals and minerals. There's a lot of history to explore, and you can also take a mine tour. Admission prices are very reasonable: £8.50 for adults for either the museum or the mine, or you can purchase a combined ticket for £16.
Karolina B — Google review
A good museum, though some of the exhibits (and the staff) could do with a refresh. Don't tet me wrong, both were really interesting - just a bit jaded and almost going through the motions. That said, I'd still recommend that people make an effort to visit both the museum and the underground mine tour. The mine tour seems to run at 11am 1pm and 2.10pm by volunteers. It's a short but steep walk away from the museum and if that puts you off, its nothing to the stopping and ducking of the mine. Good to be able to see how the miners dug the minerals out of the ground what they look like and used for. The end of the tour panning for mini gemstones was a bit 'lame' for many adults (i guess good fun for kids). The museum has a lot to take on board, but if you've the time its git a load of history & info. Overall -yes well worth visiting and by far the best thing going in Matlock Bath, Matlock and area! Dogs on leads welcome in mine and museum. Aug 25 £16 gorgeous museum and underground tour.

Just visited this week with my family and in laws. We had a great time. The museum is small but lots to see and very informative and the staff are helpful. We also did the mine tour with our kids (nearly 2 and 6). Robin, our guide, was absolutely wonderful. He was full of information, clearly enjoys his work and was great with the kids as well, mostly chatting with our daughter who was absolutely entranced. Well worth a visit.
Jenni L — Google review
Well worth a visit! The mine was awesome and the tour guide Lisa was brilliant. She was very knowledgeable and gave us a great, unrushed tour (we were the only family). The panning for gems afterwards was great fun and the museum was much bigger than we thought as well as being really well laid out with loads of displays. My son (and wife) loved crawling through the pretend mine! We are looking forward to visiting again when you move to the new location!
Kev G — Google review
We visited with 2 adults and 5 children ages between 5-70. Everyone loved the mine tour and our tour guide was really engaging with the children. Panning for "gold" after was a great experience. The children enjoyed the museum so much that we went back the next day! I would highly recommend a visit to here.
Ben — Google review
Very friendly lady at the entrance, explained everything about the museum. Interactive exhibits and fun for kids!
Nancy D — Google review
Well worth visiting if you’re in Matlock Bath for the day. The museum is really interesting and the mine tour was very informative; in a group of mainly adults the tour guide was very engaging and had a good sense of humour. And I think £16 for both the museum and tour, during school summer holidays, for a whole year’s pass, is incredible value for money! I’ll definitely visit again.

Amazing place to visit. Great amount of knowledge and new things to learn. Some bits are old school but it adds to the feeling of the place. I didn’t see a lift for the upstairs? Price is very reasonable and you are able to go back again within 12 months. Highly recommend!!

Nestled between Hope Valley and the Vale of Edale, Losehill House Hotel & Spa is a stunning Arts and Crafts building that dates back to 1914. Originally established as the Moorgate Guest House, it has since been transformed into a luxurious four-star hotel within the Peak District National Park. The hotel offers 23 modern en suite bedrooms with picturesque rural views, flat screen TVs, and Wi-Fi.
We recently had our wedding at Losehill and they were absolutely incredible. The most perfect day ever, would not have changed a single thing. It really is a hidden gem. The venue itself is stunning, surrounding by the rolling hills and lots of cute lambs and sheep! The staff are so professional and the food is done to an incredible standard. Everyone loved it and unlike other wedding venues the bar was very reasonably priced and had a great selection of drinks. Shoutout to Jules for making the planning experience so easy and enjoyable and to Paul also for making sure the day ran perfectly - but also to the staff more broadly who went out of their way for every ask of ours. So many of our friends and family have commented that it is the best wedding they have ever been to and want to come back for a spa weekend away.

We booked 6 nights, but stayed for 5 - couldn’t handle the sewage smell and sound isolation issues (= bad sleep) any longer. Pros: - location - very convenient for accessing anything in Peak District (given you have a car). Lose Hill is literally at the door steps and hike is cool and views are amazing! - staff was friendly Cons: - sound isolation is very poor. Several nights couldn’t fall asleep because people in bordering rooms or bar below were talking. Could hear literally everything. Closing windows and doors was of no help. - there were a lot of spiders in the room as well as bathroom - in every corner - pool area could be better cleaned and looked after (cracked tiles and such) - at around 19:30 every day it would start smelling sewage. The room would get all smelly. It was very unpleasant. Closing window facing the back of the hotel helped, but some smell would still get through to the room - bathroom had black mould - weather was warm and having no air conditioning was a downside. Probably not a problem when it isn’t hot. Overall we thought it overpriced given the above . This wasn’t a 4star hotel experience.
Anna A — Google review
The location is beautiful. The restaurant is also beautiful. The view from the restaurant window was amazing. The food was excellent quality. The only downside is the portions are very small. I had to order an extra side after my main because I wasn't full. That's the only reason for my 4 star rating.
Michelle B — Google review
The service, bar selection, spa facilities and treatments were brilliant. The set evening dining menu was fantastic. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and offer a good quality attentive service. I booked a full body massage with Lisa who not only sent me to sleep, but worked out some knots in my back that had been causing me pain for a while. Lisa also gave me plenty of advice for things I could do on a daily basis to as a preventive measure going forward. Highly informative as well as relaxing. The scenery is priceless. Definitely recommend.
Rebecca W — Google review
The best wedding I could have asked for. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. A stunning hotel with lovely food, professional staff and incredible surroundings. You are absolutely in the middle of the peaks with an unbelievable backdrop. The orangery has out of this world vistas and light, even if the weather isn’t incredible, and it turns into a great dancefloor for the evening. The venue is classy, jaw dropping and can accommodate an absolute session with lots of drink! I cannot thank Jules (the wedding planner more). Responded to all of our questions, nothing phased her at all, and I wasn’t worried about the day in the slightest in her competent and experienced hands. Also, spending the morning after your wedding in the outdoor hot tub has insane wow factor. Honestly, if you’re planning a wedding this is the venue dreams are made of - all of our guests could not believe just how incredible the hotel is in every which way. Thank you so much Jules and team for giving us the best day of our life.
Liam S — Google review
We stayed as a joint 70th and wedding anniversary treat. What a lovely spot and such lovely staff. I had the best massage by Tatiana and we then enjoyed a delicious dinner with drinks in the comfy lounge to start and end our meal. A great night's sleep in a wonderfully huge bed and then a Derbyshire breakfast in the dining room with the most amazing views. It's a little off the beaten track but worth the journey.
Jayne A — Google review
Faultless. From the well priced menu at £65 for three courses to the attentive and friendly staff. To the well made cocktail. The fairly priced wine list. The coffee and petit fours and the light bathed dining rooms with dreamy views of Lose Hill, I have at last found a place to take out of town guests where I can be sure that we will have a great evening.
Michael M — Google review
Went here with my friend yesterday for a spa day. On arrival they had got my name incorrect r at the end of it. We went into the lounge area where we had a drink. Noisy with a cleaner hovering up across from us. Went to have our spa treatments which were okay. After we went to have our 1 hour pool use..no lockers available for valuables! was asked if we had anything valuable with us...er yes phones, money & bank cards. The receptionist said we could leave these with her behind reception or keep them with us by the side of the pool/hot tub and we would be given a complimentary drink for our inconvenience. Pool area was okay but very small as was the changing room area. Food & drink was okay & they did let us change from afternoon tea to something else on the menu, food & drink was good. Would we go again...no not for a spa day. reason: security of valuables issue.

The Three Horseshoes Country Inn & Spa in Leek is a charming countryside hotel with stylish rooms, brasserie dining, and a bar. The family-run inn offers much more than meets the eye, with an extended open-plan dining area and several smartly furnished bedrooms, some even featuring outdoor hot tubs. We could not have been happier with choosing The Three Horseshoes as our wedding venue. The venue is absolutely beautiful and set in such a lovely area! The value for money was outstanding, the food was incredible, the rooms are so spacious and comfortable. The staff were absolutely amazing! Lisa and the Events team made everything so easy, they were there every step of the way, making sure we had everything we needed and made the day so relaxing and enjoyable. All the staff were efficient, professional and so friendly! We can't thank The Three Horseshoes enough for making our day so special and perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Wedding 30.08.2025 Can’t thank you enough for the most amazing day! Lovely staff and amazing service, the whole day ran perfectly. Booked in July 2025, giving us 6weeks to plan, the Communication was great. On the day the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was how we wanted. Ourselves and All our guest have each said how great the food was in the day and the buffet in the evening, more than enough to go around, nobody went hungry. Would highly recommend! Can’t wait to come back on new year Eve to celebrate and enjoy a fabulous spa break!!!

I’ve come to the twilight spa on numerous occasions, and every time it’s a wonderful experience. The mill spa is small but full of character. The staff are friendly and helpful, it’s clean and the lemon meringue cocktail is delightful! It’s my favourite one anywhere! They never book in too many guests so you can happily move about and use everything easily. And the two course lunch is superb! Highly recommend the pie! It’s absolutely worth its money and I plan on returning very soon!

Worst spa I have ever been to and will probably ever go to! Overnight stay with hot tub is an absolute waste of £400. The Spa has what is basically two small Saunas and a plunge pool. The ‘warm tub’ not an hot tub at all outside is useless, I’ve had warmer baths. It is not covered either in case the weather is bad. It wasn’t made clear about the spa booking times. We had the overnight stay and were booked in the spa the next day. We couldn’t use the spa when we arrived. We got told there is a hot tub with our room. This hot tub is better but again it is not covered at all in case the weather is bad. We then had to check out at 11:00 the next day. When we asked about the spa and what we were meant to do for nearly three hours (we checked out before 11:00 because we had breakfast and were ready). We got told that we might have gone on a walk or something like that. 50mph winds and raining… no offer for early access to the spa, late checkout or even a very small gesture. I wouldn’t even return just to go to the restaurant (which was actually nice) because I am that disappointed. Awful setup. Awful booking. Awful service. Wouldn’t mind as much if you could say that it is a small spa out the way but it still charges big spa prices!!! Would not recommend to anyone! Go anywhere else, please. The spa section in my gym is better than here.

Myself and my partner had a lovely weekend and well needed break. With use of the spa on 1 day, 2 nights 3 course dinner as well as breakfast. The meals on both nights were great! We couldn’t be happier with Deborah on the front desk who went above and beyond and really made our stay. The garden room with private hot tub was heated ready for us and the bed was incredibly comfortable and we had very peaceful night sleep! The staff were all friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. We also used the opportunity being in the area to go to Alton Towers which was only a scenic 25 minute drive away!
Jessica C — Google review
Popped in for a drink while friend was charging car. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Lovely blend of traditional and modern. Most importantly, wine reasonably priced! Recommend and will pop in again.
Carla G — Google review
Four of us went last night(18/8) for my daughter's birthday. We were very disappointed. We ordered a bottle of wine which was just plonked on the table and we were just left to open it ourselves. Fair enough we thought. The waiter asked if we would like water we said yes please but we had to ask a further three times before we actually got it. The carvery was disappointing. The roast potatoes tasted stale as if they had been standing for a long time and the vegetables were nearly gone and needed replenishing and were tepid. When we asked for the bill we had to wait at least 20 minutes before we could actually pay it and had to go to the waiters station in the end to pay. All in all a disappointing experience. I wouldn't say they were over busy so there wasn't really any excuse. It was a shame because it had come highly recommended

Crich Tramway Village, also known as the National Tramway Museum, is a meticulously restored period village featuring historic facades and a remarkable collection of over 60 vintage trams dating from 1873 to 1982. Visitors can step aboard these beautifully preserved trams and explore the recreated village, complete with a working pub, cafe, sweetshop, and tram depots.
Crich Tramway Village is an absolute delight for all ages! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warmest and most helpful staff and volunteers who clearly love what they do. Their passion and friendliness truly made the day extra special. The whole experience is beautifully nostalgic, like stepping back in time. Riding the vintage trams through the scenic countryside is both relaxing and fascinating. The recreated period street, old-style sweet shops, exhibitions, and woodland walk make it a full day out, rain or shine! One of the best surprises? Free parking and the fact that a full-price ticket gives you unlimited return visits for a whole year! That’s incredible value for money — we’ll definitely be coming back again (and again)! Whether you’re into history, transport, or just looking for a fun and peaceful family day out, Crich Tramway Village is a must-visit. Highly recommended! THERE IS A SOFT PLAY AREA AND OUTDOOR PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN !! NO ONE WILL FEEL BOARD HERE

Totally surprised myself by how interesting I found this! These are beautiful to look and watch as they go past. Such a shame that we don't use these anymore! There was plenty to do and see. The woodland walks with the wooden sculptures were great! We loved the wooden potato head! We all enjoyed the Tram ride through the village! Great day out!

A lovely day out for the enthusiast. We had three trams running on our visit and was able to ride on them with ease. The other attractions, such as the Woodland walk was a pleasant activity. The tram museum is very informative with a good collection of trams and their history. There are plenty of places to sit down but I would recommend bringing your own food/picnic as the small on site cafe has very limited table accommodation inside.

What a great day we had, it's steam punk weekend here, and decided to go along to find out what it was like. £25 per adult but free to come back within 12 months. Blast from the past as you walk down to the recreation of tram life with the extra of alot of people dressed up in their desired steam punk outfits. Great to see them all. So much to see with the history of trams, and the woodland walk is a must, we really enjoyed this part. Cant wait to go back again.

I last visited here as a child, so was nice to return as an adult. I have also done videos on my Youtube channel - @karlsmith25, so take a look. Enjoyed the 2 tram rides, and also the ticket is well worth the money as you can return free of charge during the 12 months its valid for. Will definitely return in 2026.

A lovely day out . We had spent the weekend in Matlock Bath. A truly lovely place to visit. The tramway village is only approximately 6miles away. It's like stepping back in time . Along with many trams on display, there are some you travel on along a track. An old fashioned sweetshop and pub . There's a cafe serving food . Sadly the country walk got to by the tram was closed due to the bad weather. Tickets are valid for 12 months so hopefully will go back in the summer months

Great day out. A big part of family holidays when I was a child was riding the trams at Blackpool along the seafront. Seeing a couple of these at the museum brought back some very happy memories. My parents would have rode on trams like some of these when they were young. It’s fantastic to see so many all in one place and all so well preserved. I love this sort of place. It’s so amazing that people had the foresight to save these items, be they trams or trains or buses, vintage cars, old buildings. They deserve our full support. Will definitely pay another visit.

Highly recommend a visit here. Visited as a family and enjoyed by all. The staff were great, plenty to explore. Tram rides are brilliant for the trail up to the top or just for a return ride. The gift shop and sweet shop offer treats for reasonable prices. Great value entry and automatically gives you a years pass to return.

Water & Amusement Parks
Nestled in the picturesque hills near Matlock Bath, Gulliver's Kingdom is a delightful theme park designed specifically for families with children aged 2 to 13. This vibrant destination offers an array of over 60 rides and attractions that cater to young adventurers seeking excitement. From thrilling log flumes and roller coasters to engaging dinosaur trails, there's something for every little explorer. The park features dedicated zones like Toyland for toddlers and pirate-themed areas for older kids, ensuring everyone has a blast.
A brilliant family day out. Free parking is available and just a short wait for the gates to open. There is something to do for all ages here, visited with two children ages 12 and 15 and enjoyed by both. This park is great for those who don't like massive rollacoasters or queuing for hours to get on a ride. The queues were all short, or we were straight on. The climbing wall and the rope swing were the only two attractions that had a bigger queue or wait time. Various food and drink outlets dotted around. We chose to have a pizza, which was nicely done. Old classics like the log flume, river rapids, pirate ship and high wire seats were enjoyed by all. Photos for the log flume are reasonable prices, the pottery craft painting was only £5, and there is a gift shop at the exit to buy a keepsake or gift. Whether you've got a little one or older one there's definitely something for everyone. £65 family ticket offer for a family of 5 was great value for the amount of things to do. We would visit again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 A great place for kids and families to enjoy a day out. Most of the rides are short and mainly designed for children, but the overall atmosphere is fun. The roadside views on the way here are amazing, though the uphill journey makes pushing baby strollers a bit challenging. Best to arrive early to make the most of all the rides. A few extras, like having to pay £1 for a park map, didn’t feel like the best first impression. Still, overall, it’s a lovely family-friendly destination with plenty for kids to enjoy.
M A — Google review
We enjoyed it today. Positives - booked online and took advantage of a 'secret deal'. Perfect for younger kids. No rides really too extreme and we got on almost everything. The tree top drop ride and the lost world raft ride were both really good fun. Got on the log flume three times, which we loved. Most of the staff were pleasant enough. The ski lift team were really nice and made an effort to welcome you on. Parking was fine although via a very steep, windy drive up and with cars queing to get parked you could smell clutches burning everywhere 😂 but there was an entrance into the park near the top for those parking which was decent. Negatives - Not much really. We waited in line for my little girl to go on the rock climb wall, behind a small group of girls, and we were the very next in line (and the only ones left in the queue) and they shut it because they 'only run one or the other' The other being a little toddler activity course in the same spot. When we queued both were in action. They could have let her have a go, bit annoying. Some of the attractions are a bit of a let down, the ghost house for example, and the dragons lair are a few mins each that you won't get back. Pointless walkarounds with nothing in them. Those aside, overall a decent day out and fairly priced, and I'm sure we'll probably go back before she gets too big for most of the rides. Point to note: if your not good at walking up and down steep hills, this place isn't for you. It's literally built on a hillside. You have the ski lifts which will take you up and down but expect a fair wait for one. For us, we did both and were fine with the gradients.

Great for the kids and the landscape is beautiful. The guys and gals working there were all polite and ready to help in anyway they can. Just a little mention to disabled people come fully prepared as it really is hard graft getting around because of the steep landscape.
Smileyanz — Google review
Great day out for the younger kids, we really enjoyed the rides. The wait times weren't as bad as the bigger parks. Food wasn't overly priced and good portions. The hills there could be an issue for those with mobility issues or walking with bulky buggies/prams.

We had such an amazing time here, I was really impressed! We arrived at 12 and it closed at 5 and that was just enough time! We got on everything quickly and managed to do my daughter's favourite rides quite a few times! It's set amongst beautiful scenery, my 4 year old could go on nearly everything, and the car park is free!

Much better place than I thought. Adults can have fun with the kids too. Kids absolutely loved it. Area is beautiful too. Parking wise you need to get there early to find place at the bottom. I think it is better to start your journey in Gulliver's Kingdom from the bottom entry.

Lovely place for kids, from rides, activities, climbing ropes and lift chairs. Children loved it. Smaller rides for them to enjoy. The only set back was the height levels of rides. It was very steep going to different rides. I did see dome parents with pushchairs struggling. Not suitable for wheelchair, in my opjnion

Best place in Derby for a walk and bite to eat/picnic. Best location for families or those in wheelchairs for a walk and bite to eat or drink. Staff always friendly and helpful. The new parking rates are high and annoying with their camera system, however easy and cheap to get a yearly pass. Highly recommended.

A really nice place to visit. Take either a short stroll or a longer walk around the lake. A good place to take a dog for a walk. On lead walking seems to be the thing. Dogs can paddle in the lake if they wish as long as they don't disturb the wildlife. Plenty of birds around so a good place to bird watch. Don't worry if you forget your binoculars as you can rent a pair for £3 from the RSPB shop. A play area for kids might be a welcome distraction. Food sold on site as well as an ice cream parlour. Food and drinks are well priced. £3 for a Flat White and £8.50 for a burger and chips. Pay for parking either by app or by machine at the visitor center. £3.50 for 2 hours.

Caverns & Caves
Treak Cliff Cavern is a network of caves located beneath the town of Castleton, known for its rare Blue John stone and impressive stalactites. This unique mineral, fluorite, has been highly sought after by jewelers since the Georgian era due to its distinct rhubarb and custard coloration. The caverns are still used for mining today, with small amounts of Blue John stone being extracted from 250 million-year-old seams.
Did the self-guided tour on a quiet Saturday morning, staff were pleasant and the tour app had some good information explaining each of the caverns hostory. It doesn't take too long to get around, even though you can go at your own pace I think most people would struggle to take longer than an hour or so to see everything there is to offer. There are bits where you need to crouch quite low which can be especially awkward if you're tall, so be warned.
Nathan — Google review
Fantastic place. One of the best for differing things to look at and the names of the caverns. Useful tour on an app or boards to read in each cavern which we did as we just don’t like using our phones when we are having a day away from technology. We always choose to come back to this cavern even though there are loads in the area. Very lovely friendly staff too. Only downside if the water is fed from the hills and the toilets and cafe have never been open when we go there so we have to use the facilities down in the town beforehand and after for our lunch but still a great cavern. Well worth the visit. The dogs love it in there too 😀
Sioned — Google review
Excellent, fairly easy cavern to do. Not that many steps but good footwear recommended as steps are wet. Very pretty. Gift shop is also great to look at and some piece of blue John aren't too expensive, plus some nice jewellery with beautiful colours.
C R — Google review
I found this place worth the ticket price. Rich history, well-maintained and deeply mesmerizing to be inside the cave...it was my first time visiting a cave,I was definitely in awe. I had read caves and chase in mined mountains like in Hobbit. I had my own imagined scenery. Now I was looking at real thing so pardon me for getting amazed.😀 One thing : i didnot find it easy to listen to audio guide on my walk inside caves since you gotta be careful with your steps and mindful of your head so holding a phone to listen to guide while doing all this and clicking photos and taking in everything got too much for me😀 I found sign boards and informational plaques enough to help me understand the place. If I need more info, I can listen to audio or read once I am out of cave and sitting on that slope of hill with lush views of valley down.
Saba A — Google review
The whole experience was inclusive and fun. The tour lasts about 45 mins and we bought tickets inside the gift shop. I would recommend buying online if you come visit during a school term break or holiday period. Parking is free here and just climb walk about 5 mins to the entrance. Overall, Treak Cliff Cavern offers an engaging and informative experience that combines natural beauty with historical insights. It’s a worth to visit. Just a warmly remind, to wear suitable footwear & warm comfortable clothing, most of the cavern tour floor are wet and beware your head to hit the rock.
Wilson C — Google review
Very informative self-guided your with all. You are up close to items being discussed. Gives you time to look around. The Blue John Vein is huge compared to the one on your in Blue John Cave, but I would go to both. The view coming out of cave is stunning, even in the pouring rain. So glad I stopped here!
Karen W — Google review
Treak Cliff Cavern is a magical experience—stepping inside feels like entering a hidden world of shimmering Blue John stone, dramatic formations, and rich geological history. The self-guided audio tour is both relaxing and informative, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Crafting a piece of Blue John in the workshop adds a personal, memorable touch. And once you’re back above ground, the surrounding hills and views over Castleton make it a perfect spot for a quiet picnic in nature.
Latyfah S — Google review
Booked this self guided tour a few days before we went and went for an earlier one as you get a discount for an earlybird tour. They made sure we had the app installed so we could get the narration. Very friendly and welcoming and we were told to take as long as we liked. You could see all the Blue John in the walls and the narration was very good. Was in the mine for about an hour and a half. A steep walk from the road to the mine (it does state this on the website) and not too many steps in the mine in one go. Loved that we could go at our own pace and stay where we wanted for as long as we wanted. We booked the tour primarily to see the Blue John but there are stalactites and stalagmites as well. The shop is well stocked with Blue John and other minerals. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Masson Mills, established by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1783, is a significant part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The site includes a working textile museum that offers insight into the historical working life at the factory. The red-brick building exudes historic charm and houses a cafe with picturesque views of the River Derwent. Visitors can enjoy Fairtrade barista coffee and locally sourced cakes while taking in the ambiance.
I knew of this place only from it's previous incarceration as a shopping centre. It's new incarnation took a while to penetrate. We got the X17 from home in Chesterfield, it stopped outside Masson Mill. Once we ignored the empty bit we entered via the gift shop cum factory leftovers cum café. Nice food. A single person ran the café, sold tickets and showed where to go next. Food and drink was most acceptable .No guided tours on Easter Monday so it was a care of figuring it out for oneself. The barcode links were useful on my smartphone and give specific histories and showed videos. A curator, dressed in mill -made peasant cloth ran several lots of machines. She chatted when not involved in nursing the machines into life. It helps if you know about the history of power weaving and spinning. The Jacquard looms were great as I remembered those cards as the input methods of early main frame computers. The stairs were difficult for myself as my mobility is not so good. Very large steps. More staff needed as and when finances improve. We recommend this to anyone interested in our industrial history .

Great place to visit, amazing to see the old machinery in action in the building. Lovely tea shop. We did the self guided tour and felt it would have been useful to have a bit more information (worth going on a guided tour I guess!). Exhibition upstairs was thought provoking.

Great, informative museum. Lovely to see the cotton looms working. Nice cafe and shop. Allow at least 2 hours to fully appreciate the museum. QR codes provide extra info as you go round.

This was a fascinating tour by Kevin, taking us back 250 years to the hard life of the mill workers. It was brilliant to see the looms, carding and spinning machines still in operation. Plus a marvellous stream engine that took over from the original water wheel. Good inexpensive food in the café as well.
Marie D — Google review
Brilliant place ! Absolutely amazing to see the scale of all the original machinery _and hear some of it working still. And millions of bobbins and reels of all types and sizes ...Still using the hydro electric power from tge river. Well worth a visit and supporting this amazing Museum

The birth of the factory and industrial revolution happened here, this a UNESCO world heritage site. The museum shows some insight into the working conditions of the early industrial age. So much more could be shown regarding working conditions and exploitation of those times.

Absolutely fantastic! Great industrial museum that's also still working as a cotton mill. Working for nearly 250 years. The explanation of the looms from Kevin was particularly good 😀

The annual Illuminations and Venetian nights during September and October are a sight to behold, transforming Little Switzerland into a vibrant spectacle.
Interesting place. Must have been splendid in its hay day. Aquarium with lots of different species of fish to see. The old bath is now home to some very large coy carp. There is also a tunnel with petrified artifacts
Jane T — Google review
A lovely little gem. I enjoyed walking through this small aquarium and amusement park with my little one. A small fee to enter, and kids under 4 years go free. Good selection of fish, and well looked after. Would recommend.
Kay L — Google review
As adults the £6.50 fee seems a bit steep But there's a little aquarium with cute fish, a victorian bath with a large number of koi and then a little museum bit. It wasn't bad but wouldn't repeat the cost
Jasmine.Louise — Google review
Small but excellent space and learnt a lot about fishes. Not a bad prices to enter and you can feed koi fishes if you got 50p coin. Upstairs the is light luminous reflection weird pictures make my eyes funny and arcades ground floor.
Emma G — Google review
This place is good just not very big but tickets were around £6.50 each the visit lasted around 30 mins
Daryl S — Google review
A lovely place which lives up to the seaside without the sea label. Lots of interesting shops and cafes and then you arr right next to the cable car and the heights of Abraham, also well worth a visit.
Simon C — Google review
Small aquarium with a good carp pool but not much else to offer. A few of the other fish seemed a little ill cared for with dirty tanks, but the majority seemed okay… for the entrance fee I wouldn’t go again
Kai Z — Google review
Quite a basic and old fashioned visitor attraction, but that is part of it's charm! My daughter loved the holograms (a slightly bizarre selection but quite entertaining!), and the koi carp were relaxing to stand and watch for a while (for 50p you can buy food from a dispenser for them, which the kids enjoyed). The small section on local history was quite interesting, and the hall of mirrors provided much amusement. The petrifying well was a bit underwhelming but still worth a quick look. The actual aquarium part isn't huge but contains a reasonable range of different sea creatures for such a small aquarium, although a few of the bigger fish looked like they could have done with a bit more space to swim in. If you're looking for an affordable way to spend and hour or so out of the rain, as we were, it's not a bad option (especially given the price of some of the other visitor attractions in the area!).

Myself and a friend really enjoyed our spa experience. Staff were absolutely wonderful, our facials left us feeling relaxed and the spa facilities were great. I was left feeling disappointed by the cleanliness of some parts of the spa. Black mould in the dressing room shower, and pink mould on the side of the steps going down into the pool. It looks as though it needs a good deep clean. The rest of the spa and treatment areas were very clean. Other than that a lovely experience but for the price you pay I'd have expected the spa not to be lacking in cleanliness.

My partner and I had a lovely spa day including treatment at the Devonshire Spa. The staff were lovely and helpful, the treatments were fantastic and the price was fair too. My reason for not giving it 5 stars is some areas could just do with a little attention. Broken tiles, rusty radiators and a bit better clean would make this spa perfect. Didn't really bother us but I know it would for some. Thanks to the team for a lovely experience today.

Manchester Museum, part of the vibrant cultural scene in Manchester, offers a diverse and extensive collection that includes mummies and dinosaurs. The museum recently underwent a 15 million transformation, reopening with new areas such as the South Asia Gallery in partnership with the British Museum, celebrating the experiences of the South Asian diaspora. Visitors can also explore the Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery for a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and personal stories of Manchester-China empathy.
Manchester Museum is a lovely place to visit, it’s not particularly big, so you can easily see everything in 2–3 hours, which makes it great for families. There are some really interesting pieces to enjoy, and it’s very family friendly overall. What stood out the most for me, however, was their multi-faith area. It was wonderfully clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. Honestly one of the best multi-faith spaces I’ve ever seen and used. Absolutely 10/10 for the effort the museum has put into providing such a welcoming and inclusive space for all visitors.

This is a great museum and can be done in about 2-3 hours and is good for all ages. It's free to get in but you can make a donation. The vivarium was very popular. The gift shop had some good and interesting items for souvenirs or gifts. There is an elevator for those with strollers or that can't do stairs. They're are several different sections to see. The Egyptian section has a real mummified person that you can view, along with their sarcophagus. There are taxidermy animals and the skeleton of a whale. Lots to see and definitely worth a visit. There is even a good cafe attached for a snack once you're done.

My son and I had a truly wonderful time visiting the Historical Art Exhibition in Manchester. We were both deeply impressed by the richness of the displays and the beauty of the precious artifacts. My 7-year-old son was especially delighted to see so many fascinating and valuable pieces from the past, which sparked his curiosity and excitement. It was such a joyful experience for him before starting his new school day, and for me it was a memorable moment to share with him, filled with learning and admiration.

So many fascinating things to see, from taxidermy to fossils to gems to live animals! I could've stayed the whole day. There is a big variety of things here, you'd never get bored! And it's free! I had such lovely time here.

Went yesterday for my little ones first visit to a museum, timed it perfectly for the cat that slept for 1000 years exhibit, was brilliant! Very good if you've got younger children! Egypt exhibit and dinosaurs were good. Only thing I'd say was the bathrooms were the cleanest and the two we went into hand dryers were broken. Overall a good day and alot to see.

Go to this museum. I went last week and it was fantastic. There is a lot in the museum and it is well displayed. The Asian culture and history exhibit was really nice to walk around and I especially liked that it tried really hard to tie as much of the Asian history to Manchester and showed how strong the ties are between the two locations. The Egyptian exhibit was also nice although it felt very cramped in the area. It's not a massive space but it is filled with different items of course the mummy. It would have been fine however, with how many people were there it felt very claustrophobic and I didn't stick around for too long. Now the biggest draw for most people, but especially me as a person with a massive interest in Dinosaurs and other prehistoric life, is the palaeontology exhibit. It was amazing. You first meet April the Tenontosaurus. She doesn't get as much love as Stan but she absolutely should. She is not a replica but an actual original fossil set that has been amazingly preserved. You then move from her onto the main hall. Immediately you see Stan the T-Rex standing facing you and he is gorgeous. He is by far the best thing in the museum and a real treat to see. I could go on about the rest of the exhibits but I think you get the idea that this museum is fantastic and I recommend everyone goes at least once. I myself plan on going again soon.

We recently spent a truly spectacular day at the Manchester Museum. This isn't just a collection of old things; it's a vibrant journey through time, packed with amazing artifacts and compelling histories that capture the imagination of every visitor. The historical collections are beautifully curated, offering deep dives into everything from Ancient Egypt to natural sciences, presenting human history and the wonders of the natural world in an accessible and awe-inspiring way. The Star Attraction: Triceratops: Eat, Roam, Repeat. While the entire museum is brilliant, the main event for us was undoubtedly the special exhibition, Triceratops: Eat, Roam, Repeat. I can't recommend this highly enough, especially for families with young children. The exhibition is designed to be incredibly interactive, turning learning into a hands-on adventure. It perfectly balances fascinating historical facts about the iconic dinosaur with opportunities to explore, move, and play. Seeing the sheer scale of the Triceratops skull is breathtaking, but the clever, child-friendly displays bring its ancient life into sharp focus. Our four-year-old had the best time exploring every corner. The exhibit encourages curiosity and active participation, keeping little hands and minds busy. To top off the dino-mite experience, the fun Dino dig was the perfect finale. Watching our little one, brush in hand, enthusiastically unearth 'fossils' felt like a real-life archaeological discovery. It’s details like this—making history tangible and fun—that set the Manchester Museum apart.

The Manchester Museum is at the outer skirt of the Uni' s compound on the Oxford Road, located accessibly to City centre. The Museum opens daily from 10:00 to 15:00 but the Museum will call off at 16:30 and let visitors leave gradually to avoide congestion. It had brightened me up by the species of live reptiles and taxidermy animals when I visited the Museum with friends, a day to the University of Manchester. When exploring the amazing creatures in the small aquariums, it was a fun trying to find out the dart frogs, chamelons or green tree frogs ..etcs. You need to have 20/20 eye sight. The Museum has a collection of taxidermy animals that you can test yourselves, how many you can name them out. It saddened me much was the "Disasters of the World" section by the exhibiting the remains coverd by volanic ash in the destruction by volcanic quakes. This impressed me deeply in the fact of such fate that could not be avoided. It will cause numbers of causalty. Fate cannot be monitored and predicted. One of the much signature exhibits of the Museum is the Japanes bronze sculpture displayed at entrance of building. This polishing and shining black sculpture reflects the perfectionism as claimed by Japsnese culture. Here, people can broaden up their knowledge horizon in the greatest creation and the amazing nature. It is worth to spend a day here with family.

The Manchester Art Gallery, established in 1823, is a treasure trove of art spanning six centuries. With over 25,000 objects including paintings, ceramics, furniture and more, it offers a diverse collection from ancient Egyptians to the French Impressionist movement. Notably rich in Victorian art and Pre-Raphaelite pieces, it's a must-visit for art enthusiasts.
We found the museum very welcoming!! Happened upon the museum and their FREE TOUR at 3 pm, we couldn’t be happier! I recommend a visit with a tour, you’ll dedicate an hour and see the museum highlights while learning so much more!! The lil cafe was cute and a good place to stop as well.

So much historic and cultural art pieces you can spend hours on end getting captivated/inspired. I would recommend arriving early enough to enjoy all the galleries. We arrived at 3pm and it wasn't enough time (closes at 5pm on Saturday) to enjoy the full gallery experience, luckily its free entry so we will likely return.

My Visit to Manchester Art Gallery I had a wonderful visit to the Manchester Art Gallery. The place is beautifully maintained, spacious, and full of inspiring artworks from different eras — from classical paintings to modern and contemporary collections. The curation is excellent, and the displays are well-organized, making it easy to explore at your own pace. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I really appreciated the free entry, which makes it accessible for everyone. The gallery also has a lovely café and gift shop where you can relax after walking through the exhibits. It’s a perfect spot for art lovers or anyone who wants to experience culture and creativity in the heart of Manchester. Highly recommended for both locals and tourists!

Great place to visit when in Manchester. Brilliant art installations on display. On the second floor, to the rear, you will find the Lowry art display and several others. It looks as if they continue to add more installations in the gallery which means that repeat visits might still be mesmerising. The gallery is well laid out and has two entrances. There is a cafe, shop and toilet facilities on site. Free entry. Thank you Manchester.

Absolutely marvelous! We took the factory tour, had a “Classic” Tea, then toured the V&A Museum. James and Peter our guides for the tours were outstanding and very knowledgeable. Leanne, who assisted use with our purchases was very helpful, patient with us, knowledgeable regarding shipping options. An unalloyed delight! We spent the entire day, learned a great deal and will be back for a pottery class!

We decided to stop here on our drive home from the Lake District and we’re so glad we did. Totally free to get in, there is a fascinating V&A display showing the history and collections of Wedgwood. We then wandered up to the clay and painting studio, which is a great area to bring kids on a rainy day. They also let us have a look at the factory which was cool. The shop is also really nice, with lovely displays.

Visited the studio for painting some pottery. Staff were so nice and friendly, painted a few pieces all at reasonable prices for each product. You pay for what you paint, rather than just paying to attend which is great. Nice little cafe and factory shop on the campus too.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Pottery Painting at World of Wedgwood Such a lovely place for pottery painting! The prices are very reasonable, and it’s super kid-friendly — perfect for a fun family day out. There’s plenty of parking outside which makes getting there stress-free. You can choose to paint and take your piece home the same day, or leave it to be glazed and pick it up in a few weeks — love the flexibility! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the whole atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a creative, low-pressure activity for all ages!

Every single staff member we encountered was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The guided tour was fascinating and gave great insight into how the beautiful pottery is made. Lunch in the tea room was delicious with plenty of options to choose from. We also did the three-hour pottery lesson – an absolute highlight! Amy, our instructor, was amazing – so patient and encouraging, even though none of us had any experience. We all left with creations that looked like we'd been doing it for years! The whole place was spotless, and the day was perfectly organised from start to finish. Highly recommend – a perfect day out!

Our second time at World of Wedgwood was nothing short of spectacular! We did the factory tour this time and our guide, Jeff was enthusiastic, humourous and insightful the whole time. If you’re about to pick up pottery as a hobby, this is a place to start, as Jeff briefly briefly covered the basics of pottery making while weaving in the story of Josiah’s Wedgwood visionary jasperware creations. We had the high tea after the tour and it was as good as we remembered. The V&A Wedgwood collection is not to be missed as it contains a fascinating archive of works dating back to the 1700s. For crafty folk, there are pottery classes for learning the basics of throwing simple vessels. We highly recommend the experience!

Wonderful museum, factory and creative studio, where we made our first pots, and pained them. Because not resident in UK, had to ask a favour from them to post it next time when we visite family in UK. The planning was perfect, and we got our precious pots packed safely on the day when we arrived. Really grateful for the patience and being so considerate to help us. We will come back again, make / paint more pots, and hopefully keep improving our technique. 💪🏻💪🏻

Despite its historical significance and architectural grandeur, the library provides modern amenities and diverse activities for all to experience.
I got caught by the beautiful building from outside I was exploring the city and it was a nice edition. At first I saw it on the maps and the unique architecture captured my attention. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to explore the books or check the selection but what I can assume the archive is pretty loaded and the music library looks decent. I was specially impressed by the architecture and the golden interior details. The reading rooms are quiet and communal rooms have ample space. Wolfsome reading room and the music library were my personal favorites. The interior, I can’t stress enough how beautiful the space is I would spend days reading in here.

Lovely library in the centre of Manchester. Plenty of books available, as well as study areas, quiet areas, and a cafe. This place has EVERYTHING! I used to study on the 1st floor frequently at university because you can hear a pin drop! It’s fantastic. Also love this place because it has a large prayer area. It’s on the LG floor and has toilets fairly near. Great place!

Manchester Central Library is an amazing building, steeped in history and beautifully maintained. It’s both grand and welcoming, with plenty of space to explore and a real sense of heritage. When I visited there was an excellent exhibition of manhole covers on the first floor which was an interesting 'added extra' to the experience. The layout is accessible and easy to navigate, making it a pleasure whether you’re there to study, browse, or just soak up the atmosphere. Peak Wildlife Park, located in the heart of the Peak District National Park near Leek, offers a unique and immersive wildlife experience. The park specializes in bird collections and houses small mammals including rare warty pigs and meerkats. Visitors can enjoy walk-through enclosures where they can get up close to lemurs, wallabies, and penguins. Regular keeper talks provide insights into animal care, while various animal experiences are available.
We recently visited for the red panda experience and had an amazing time. It was a mild, rainy day (perfect weather for red pandas) and they came straight down to meet us. We had the chance to hand-feed them sweet potato and bamboo, which was such a special experience. They were incredibly cute and friendly, clearly well cared for, with a spacious, enriching enclosure. As expected, there’s no petting, but being up close with them was more than enough. A big thank you to our keeper, Amy, who looked after us throughout the experience. She was knowledgeable, welcoming, and shared lots of fascinating information about the red pandas. Afterward, we explored the rest of the park and, despite the rain, had a fantastic time. The park has a clear focus on sustainability and animal welfare, which we really appreciated. Since it was a quieter day, we were able to chat with several keepers and learn more about the animals, including the adorably squeaky otters and the bush dogs. We also got to feed some of the wallabies using food we bought at reception. All in all, it was a brilliant visit and one we’d happily recommend!

We visited with our Granddaughters (aged 22 Months and nearly 3). We had a day full of fantastic experiences with the animals. Being allowed to spend time in the wallaby enclosure , and feed them freely was a particularly brilliant experience for the girls (and us! 😊). Plenty of different animals to meet , a really good play area to tire out the little ones even more. All in all a great family day out.
Kirk T — Google review
Me and my daughters visited this wildlife park and it was a wonderful visit. The animals all look well cared for with plenty of space to move. The accessibility for wheelchair users was fantastic. Platforms made it easy to view animals and the walk around areas were not too small. Information about each animal was clear and easy to understand for younger children. There was an option to feed wallabies or deer, we opted for wallabies and were amazed when a joey popped its head out of its mom's pouch. Although my daughters are adults, the play area was fantastic, we would have definitely spent a fair while there when they were younger. Definitely a place to visit. If there were any recommendations for the park, it would be to have some Makaton signs by the enclosures.

Absolutely love it here, the polar bears are a favourite but being able to get in enclosures with wallabies and buy food to feed them is a wonderful experience and beautiful setting. The park is great for all ages. They also have a play area for all ages which is brilliant. Would definitely recommend and also recommend seeing Santa here at Christmas in their tipi the kids absolutely loved it last year.

A hidden gem in the UK Zoo scene. Firstly, a stunning drive through the Peak District to get there which was a pleasure. The zoo itself has a great range of animals, particularly for its size. Polar bears, arctic foxes, penguins, lemurs among many. The interactivity is the best part about this zoo- the penguin talk you can get close to the animals, the wallaby enclosure you can feed the wallabies which I’m still yet to find anywhere else, lemur talk excellent and lemurs all around you (one crawled up my leg). A fantastic zoo. I enjoyed this place more than some of the bigger zoos.
Philip G — Google review
Very strange place to find but fantastic view to get to and leave the park. Good day out, clean, open space, plenty seating, play area for the kids, toilets and cafe/kiok around the area. Fed the wallabies but wrong time to feed as they weren't hungry but near them within space was fantastic. Saw baby joey in mummy pouch which is fantastic to see. Plenty of animals to see but favourite was to see twin brother polar bears oh how adorable sleeping outside and finally to see bush dogs was amazing experience. Layout was good design so you don't miss out as you walk round.

We had a lovely day here with our kids spending the whole day exploring. Even though it’s smaller than some other zoos, it’s very tidy, clean and well-organised. The kids’ playground and inflatable are safe and really well-maintained. The staff were warm and friendly and it’s clear the animals are well cared for. We especially loved watching the playful polar bears and the adorable penguins. A wonderful family day out!

We had a great time, there's a lot to see and do. You can see a wide range of animals from Meerkats to enormous Polar Bears. The Greater Manchester Police Museum & Archives, located in a historic police station and courthouse in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, offers a captivating journey through the region's law enforcement history. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring old weapons, artifacts, and photographs that illustrate the evolution of policing. The museum also provides an opportunity to experience the original police cells and charge office from 1879, offering insight into past law enforcement practices.
The Police Museum in Newton Avenue is brilliant and completely free. I was greeted by a former Police Officer dressed in an old style uniform with helmet standing at the entrance by the street. He warmly welcomed into the museum and gave me a brief overview of what the museum contains and where everything is. The museum is housed in the original Manchester City Police Station with the authentic front desk and cells. It looked grim to have been held in these Victorian cells with anywhere up to 10 other suspected criminals. Everyone on site is a former Police Officer, so everything they say is genuine and some must go back to 1960s and 70s. It’s not a big museum but I spent over an hour there. All of the displays are interesting to read and very informative. There’s a small gift shop at the end and the opportunity to make a discreet donation. Well worth visiting but it’s only open on Tuesdays and occasionally at weekends, so check their website before you plan your visit.
John G — Google review
I visited here during the half term break with my son (11), daughter (9), and my friends with their two sons (13 and 10). We went on Tuesday morning, at around 1130am. Surprisingly, there was a queue to get in, but it didn't take long to gain entry inside. It is free to go in, but you can make donations should you wish. It is a great museum but it is small and doesn't take too long to view it all. You could extend the visit if you read every little bit of history that is in there. Various sections to visit, such as the detective room, craft and dress up room, charging office, cells, and a courtroom. The kids enjoyed the cells the most and spent most of their time there. The volunteers are excellent. They are either in historical police outfits or their volunteer tshirts and trousers. Some of the volunteers have roles to play, such as discussing the charge room, uniform, processes, etc. Or in the cells, the volunteer told us about the old days and how the cells worked back in the day. Some of the volunteers are retired police officers and have some funny stories of old, if they have the time to stand and chat. Very pleasant. You can get a free, timed ticket on entry to visit the courtroom. We went in at 130pm. It is an interactive visit, whereby the kids and adults get to hear a court case and decide if the offender is guilty or not guilty. Quite funny for adults, the kids loved it and found making the decision too enjoyable! 🤣 I have been to the museum before, without the kids, and enjoyed it. The only thing that let it down for me on our visit was the number of people inside. It was too busy. It was difficult to see a lot of the items or read the history as you felt the need to move on to let others see inside. My daughter was disappointed at one point as she couldn't squeeze through to view things. It was difficult and very tight moving in between certain areas of the museum. If I were to visit with the kids again, I would probably go later in the day when the rush has most likely been and gone. You would probably benefit more from the visit. Saying that, the kids had a great time. They did learn things from their visit, and it was a good day out. The staff were very helpful, especially when they were so busy, and I thought they did an excellent job. There is no parking, so if in a vehicle, you need to park in one of the many car parks in the city and walk to the museum. There are toilet facilities inside, including a baby changing/disabled room. There is a small shop when leaving. There is no cafe on site to buy food or drinks. I would recommend to others who are visiting Manchester.
Laura L — Google review
This hidden gem of a little museum is only open for public visits on Tuesdays; I visited around 2pm and it was fairly quiet. The detective room was my favourite, with several interesting murder cases to read about. There were so many artifacts to look at, from weapons to uniforms, as well as actual cells and a rebuilt court room to walk around.
TFT — Google review
It was wonderful to speak to the ex police volunteers at the museum and to hear about their experiences during their careers. All of the staff were knowledgeable and passionate and really made our visit special. Although a small museum, it had many interesting exhibits and the particular highlight for the children were the cells and the custody suite where they could try on part's of the uniform. Well worth a visit, made extra special by the volunteers.
T S — Google review
This is a must visit for anyone in the locality on its regular Tuesday opening day. A truly impressive collection of police memorabilia brought to life by the marvellous volunteers. You will not be disappointed, there’s even a gift shop to spend your change in before leaving.
Mark N — Google review
A wonderful museum. Not just the exhibits, which are fascinating, but also the building and the old charge room and cells. The highlight though is offered by the volunteers, they are mostly former police officers and they have lots of stories to tell. Highly recommended.
Julian W — Google review
Lovely little museum, made out of a former cell block, highlighting the development of the West Midlands Police and its former forces. Very knowledgeable and friendly volunteer staff. Nice gift shop to conclude the tour, and a small café.
Howard C — Google review
A fascinating museum run by volunteers. The passion and information they have bring this museum to life. All so friendly and helpful. Your initially greeted and explore some of the history of GMP before moving on to look at the uniform thoughout the years and how it's changed. The crime room has many gory weapons, many of which hand crafted out of day to day items to create something far more sinister. You then move on to see some vehicles before popping briefly outside to move into the custody wing. Here, again, the staff are full of knowledge and will have you captivated explaining the equipment the price have though the years and how it also keeps them safe. There are original cells to explore with some quirky features such as a bell to ring to flush your toilet. Finally head upstairs (lift is available) and you can see a beautiful courtroom set up ready for a hearing. A free to visit museum openon Tuesdays and worth a visit. Likely allow around an hour if you wish to read the information and chat to the staff.

A little quiet amongst the noise. The riverside walk, and the walks up the cliffs to the tops, are lovely. Some paved paths by the river, and the paths up are rougher and more natural. The viewpoints at the top show over to Gullivers Kingdom, and over bits of Matlock Bath. If you're going to the top, wear good footwear with grip. If you're staying by the river, you're fine to wear whatever It's a nice contrast of experience. You can go from Matlock Bath to the River Derwent to woodland in a few minutes, and have the best of all the worlds

Came to Matlock Bath for a look around. The lovers walks start at the main carpark and are well worth the effort. The walk I did takes you up above Matlock Bath where you have beautiful views all around as well as down. There are some very steep steps so not suitable for those with less than full mobility.

Some lovely views, lovely walk.. really nice place for a romantic walk with your partner, a very historical place. The canal was so nice to walk down ☺️ would take the dog there again 🙂

Came at the wrong time... approx 5pm on a Saturday eve, it was shoulder to shoulder and bumper to bumper. Absolutely no movement. Finally managed to get a parking space and we just walked around the river area. It was partially blocked off for an illuminatiom show. Its a very busy part, loads of cafes / fish and chips and such.

Lovely walk around Lovers Lane, we were doing a geocache (the Adventure Lab) and it took us all the way around the hills and the Derwent Gardens

Such a lovely place with amazing CJ that hosted our crazy 16 people event. I really surprised to see Kyiv food in this place. As Ukrainian who visited many European places this is really worth to visit in Manchester!! Thank you CJ for your amazing hospitality. Business owner should be proud to have people like CJ.

I came here with my girlfriend for food only and we found this when looking at highly reviewed venues. This pub definitely lived up to its reviews! The food was lovely with great presentation, the bar/restaurant was comfortable, warm and a nice place to sit. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we come back to Manchester we will come back here 100%.

Victoria Baths is a well-loved Grade II listed Edwardian swimming and Turkish bath facility in Manchester. It opened in 1906 and was praised for its splendid Victorian architecture, featuring decorative tiles, stained glass, and mosaic floors. Although the baths have not been open for swimming since 1993, efforts are underway to fully restore them. In the meantime, the building is used for various events and occasional guided tours are available on Wednesdays from March to November.
An amazing place. Shame there's no swimming any more, but the building is definitely worth preserving for visitors. Very knowledgeable staff can tell you more about the place. Number 50 bus goes close by.

Unique building comprising three pools, turkish baths, rooms, and changing booths, all in Bictorian splendour. The tiling, banisters, stained glass windows, & floors are extraordinary & beautiful. The staff are lovely, the general staff, one on reception, in the souvenir shop, guides, & in the cafe (special mention for the woman who makes the cafe latte).

Nestled in the serene surroundings of Sackville Park, the Alan Turing Memorial stands as a poignant tribute to one of history's most brilliant minds. This bronze statue captures Turing seated on a park bench, an apple in hand, gazing thoughtfully towards Sackville Street. Renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to mathematics and computer science, Turing played a crucial role in deciphering the Enigma machine during World War II at Bletchley Park.
Worth a visit if you are in the area. Quite near to the Manchester Art Gallery. There is a QR code to scan if you wish. You can sit next to the statue for a photo opportunity with Alan Turing. Well worthwhile for all Alan Turing fans.

This statue to a real master of maths logic and invention is very frank about him and his treatment. It is in a really beautiful garden great to sit and contemplate in nice weather.
Alex C — Google review
A very interesting statue of Alan Turing set in the middle of a park near my accommodations. Don’t forget that you may be alive today because he cracking the Enigma saved millions of lives in WWII.
Dave R — Google review
This is a cool tribute. A little odd that he’s holding an apple considering that’s how he killed himself after being imprisoned for being gay. This country has loads to answer for the only saving grace is statues like this. Shame they couldn’t have celebrated him more when he was alive.
Jd — Google review
A tribute to a wronged genius. Peaceful place to spend a few minutes, not far from the vibrant Canal street.
Avinash V — Google review
A fascinating and poignant tribute to a genius who helped speed our WW2 victory then was prosecuted and jailed for his sexuality by barbaric laws of the time. And very apt that its placed so close to Canal St where now people are free to live and express their sexuality freely. Also a beautiful and well planted small park in the city centre to chill out in. Most of all I loved how people and their children were so proud to take their photos sat by the statue so passing on his history.
M P — Google review
A lovely, small park with vibrant scenery and fragrant aromas surrounds a peaceful bench. There, Alan Turing sits thoughtfully, awaiting company, his brilliance echoing in the calm, inviting atmosphere.

Museum
The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester is located on the site of one of the world's first modern train stations, offering a captivating exploration of the city's industrial history and its ongoing contributions to science and technology. The museum showcases 250 years of innovation, from its impact on the textile industry to advancements in modern computing and the development of graphene.
I only spent about 30 minutes here, and to me it felt much more geared towards families and kids rather than adults. If I had visited with a child, I’m sure I would have stayed longer and found it more engaging. On my own, I just walked through quite quickly. Definitely a good recommendation for families with children, especially on a rainy day. For adults, I think the experience is more limited. The best part: it’s free to visit.
Juri R — Google review
The museum was excellent and paid for entry into the "Power Up" exhibition which all the family enjoyed as it had retro computers and consoles that brought back happy memories of our childhood and our kids loved trying those games out too but ended up playing on what they know best Minecraft. An enjoyable day to pass the time and the science and technology free exhibition was good as it had hands on exhibits. Only problem we found was trying to find parking but that might be because it was the school holidays. We would definitely visit again.
Chris C — Google review
Free entry, with recommended donation of £5. Currently undergoing a big refurbish only a small part of the exhibits are currently on display. They had a good section on weaving, and a nice memorial for Stephen Hawkins. Upstairs is a hands-on science exhibit which was fun for the kids. When we visited they had a retro gaming interactive exhibit, which was an extra charge but great fun playing some older games and seeing old consoles. Worth popping in if you are nearby visiting crystal maze live for example, but don’t expect to spend more than a couple of hours in its current limited capacity.
PulaPaul — Google review
A well organised museum charting the history of industrialisation in and around Manchester. Lots of interactive and interesting information and very much geared towards families with children. There’s a small section off the main hall on Stephen Hawkings which was fascinating! Upstairs on the first floor is full of children’s activities. Then across the square is the building that houses the steam engines! There was a very enthusiastic chap that explained the Pender engine and got the audience involved. And had a surprised brass band playing too! It’s free to enter, and they encourage you to make a donation!
Elisa W — Google review
The Manchester Science and Industry Museum is an absolutely fantastic place to visit, especially for families with children. One of the best parts is that entry is completely free, which makes it even more amazing considering how much there is to see and do inside. The museum is both educational and entertaining, offering a wide variety of interactive exhibits that stimulate children’s curiosity and creativity. There are hands-on activities designed to develop motor skills, logical thinking, and problem-solving abilities — perfect for kids who love to explore and learn by doing. You can find fascinating displays about the Industrial Revolution, machines, technology, and even silk production, all presented in a way that’s engaging and easy to understand. The museum does a great job of connecting Manchester’s rich industrial history with modern scientific innovation. It’s also a great place for adults — the exhibits are well-organized, informative, and full of historical details about how Manchester played a key role in shaping the world of science and industry. Overall, it’s an inspiring, educational, and fun museum that truly captures the spirit of discovery. I highly recommend visiting, especially if you’re traveling with children or simply love science, technology, and history.

This Museum locates on the Liverpool Street, Manchester M3 4JP. The Museim has just finalised a partial renovation and now the main gallery is open again for visitors. It is free. It is worthwhile to spend a half- day visit, bringing with your kids. Let the kids explore the industrial development history throughout the centuries of Manchester. Here in this Museum, you can have an exhibit of the "Baby Computer" proudly invented by the scientists from the University of Manchester. In contrast with the nowadays computers, the first generation was much larger than the present user- friendly ones. The present ones are easily hand carried. The old and sizable generation ones were set up, occuping in a floor of building by a series of cabinets froming the the body of the computing compartment - containing numbers of cathodes and vacuum tubes. Now, you may feel surprised by the scientists who had made the advancement of our livings. There, you can find the printing history and its innovation. The museum displays the first typographic machine. It was used to replace the ancient workloads by hand picking up each alphebetical lead words from trays. It was a very tensive labour consumption by very complicated procedures. Manchester was once a renowned textile empire as a leader in the world. Thanks for the industrial revolution

Top Manchester attraction for all ages. Best of all it’s mostly free apart from the occasional special exhibition. Also really easy to either park outside on a metre or one of the many local car parks.

Longnor Wood Holiday Park is a spacious 20-acre site within 4000 acres of parkland, offering opportunities for walking, cycling, and riding. The park is family-friendly with nearby attractions such as Clumber Park and the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. Visitors can also explore Nottingham to experience an imaginative audio/visual exhibition called 'The Tales of Robin Hood'.
Just got back from a 2 week holiday and wish we could go back. Extremely well equipped large lodge with hot tub. Site has big dog field, reception and organised 3 take away nights each week. Fish and chips, Indian and delicious homemade pizzas. Very dog friendly with Fantastic views of the countryside. All the staff are helpful and work hard to maintain the site to a high standard. It is a bit remote but some of the walks available a short drive away are fantastic. It is a nice peaceful site and adults only. Overall a great holiday and highly recommend.

We went to Longnor with our father in law and dog. We both had campers and pitched up very easily here. Everything is easily accessible, it’s clean, peaceful and well maintained. The area is beautiful and the dog park is a welcome bonus. Very peaceful and respectful site. We would highly recommend for people with dogs and it’s so good that it is adults only 🙏🏼😂

We stayed for a week this summer and loved it, very welcoming and friendly staff. Toilets and shower facilities are excellent, very clean and well maintained. Lovely communal building where we used the kettle and microwave provided. Great location for visiting the surrounding area. We had a campervan pitch, lovely in the evenings with so much wildlife! Would recommend and will certainly look to stay at other sister sites or come back to Longnor if back in the Peak District.

Me and my partner have stayed here twice and loved it both times! We will definitely come back here again. Both the lodges we stayed in were beautiful. This time we stayed in one of the smaller lodges but it was just as beautiful. Had all the essentials you need. Friendly staff. Surrounded by nature it was amazing seeing all the rabbits roam around the park. Overall would rate 10/10 and would definitely recommend staying here for a lovely break.

What a lovely place. We had the Elm lodge with hot tub for the weekend. Friendly lady on reception on arrival. Then we were met at the Lodge to be shown how various things worked. We were left box of chocolates and a bottle of prosseco nice touch. The lodge was beautifully clean. Nice towels and bed linen. Bathroom nice large walk in shower. Kitchen had everything needed to be self sufficient if you wanted. Hot tub was great and nice to have a gazebo over so could be used all year round if the weather wasn't great. Added bonus separate towels for the hot tub and a washer and dryer in the cupboard in the entrance way. So could dry towels after hot tub use. Lots of rabbits hopping around wich we liked. Would I go back definitely.

What a place! Staying here for a week in our van and we’ve been so impressed from the moment we arrived. It’s spotless, really well kept and upon checking into the site they sent a staff member out to greet us and show us the pitch, even offering to show us around the site. Throughout the week, we’ve seen plenty of staff about who live on site, always friendly when in or out of uniform. They’re constantly maintaining the site and I’ve struggled to find a single thing I’d suggest to improve the site at all! It has a secure dog field just outside the game and a second open field with amazing views as soon as you exit the site and it’s the quietest site we’ve been on. Quiet time at 11pm is checked by staff and it’s never broken during our time here, offering such a great escape from the daily life where the birds and cows are the only noise. The onsite gym is great and the only camp site gym I’ve experienced, meaning I’ve been in the gym every day! The sauna is also great and priced at £5 per hour is a great way to finish your gym session of relax for the day. (It does say max 4 people, so I’m unsure if it’s £5 for all four at once or just per person as I went in alone… just check at reception). There is also a games room with darts and pool, and across the way is a communal kitchen including two microwaves, sink, kettle, freezer, ironing board, washer and dryer. Vending machines are also in here if needed at night. What a great little space. The on site shop is great too and is so reasonably priced that I regularly didn’t bother going to the Aldi that’s 15 minutes away (but that’s handy too!) as their stock items are the same if not only slightly more. Great for getting you out of emergency ice, beer, wine or snack situations! The dog wash is also a bonus as it’s a very dog friendly site! This is simply the best site we’ve been on and we can’t wait to be back next year, hopefully multiple times! If you want to really relax, get yourself a serviced pitch, set up and enjoy! They also do food runs for Pizza, fish & chips and curry on set days of the week. Our fish and chips weren’t the best, but that’s not the sites fault… we’ll be trying the curry on Thursday though! A massive thanks to all the staff, you do a great job and it’s really noticeable that you truly enjoy working and living here!

As you navigate through Holme Moss, you'll be treated to breathtaking views and dramatic landscapes that define this region.
Scenery in bounds. Fantastic on a clear day, atmospheric in a cloudy day, drink in the atmosphere and sit and watch the landscape change as clouds pass over. Close enough to the summit to see cyclists toil to get to the top and the look of elation they made it.

A stunning vantage point for viewing right across the Holme Valley and beyond on a clear day! There is a car park at the top. At 1,719ft above sea level, it can feel like a different climate up there, even in good weather, so be prepared and take plenty of layers to wrap up! Worth it for the view though. Wow! What a great place. Immaculately clean lodge with all the modern touches. (We stayed in Foxglove lodge which was 3 bedded). The welcome pack was amazing - fresh bread, milk, coffee pods for the coffee machine, wine, fizz, box of chocolates, cereals and bathroom toiletries! There was everything you needed there. All needs were covered. It had an Alexa, sound system and smart tv. The hot tub was checked twice a day by Graham. There were lovely towelling robes for all guests to use during their stay. The owner Graham went above and beyond for his guests, checking if there was anything we needed. Really kind and friendly man. The lodge looked like we were the first guests to ever use it as it was spotless. The views and walks nearby were stunning. Lovely peaceful walk considering how close it is to the main road (A6). Some sections of the path could do with some attention but other than that, nice views of the river and surrounding cliff faces, I love the old bridges and bandstand too, shows the history of the town.

Charlesworth Lodges, located near Glossop, offer a serene and well-kept park with spacious and well-equipped lodges. The Amour Deluxe lodge provides a beautiful setting for a relaxing break, although the narrow road leading to the lodges may be daunting for some. Guests have enjoyed the comfort of the lodges, including large bedrooms and luxurious amenities like hot tubs. However, some have noted challenges with hot water temperature and limited Wi-Fi connectivity due to the rural location.
Couldn't fault the place , absolutely beautiful, clean , hot water was good , hot tub was lovely. The park it self was kept clean. Only thing I will say was the fly's on the desk it needs a fly catcher light. Otherwise would we stay again absolutely. 5* from me. Thank you

We stayed there for 3 night 4 days the location was nice apart for the drive down the one way road to the actual lodges. The beds were so uncomfortable and the pillows were rock hard and not comfortable at all but we were really not impressed about was the situation on the last day. We went to use the hot tub and it was cold and the water levels had dropped so we rang the help line that directed us to mark. Mark was really not bothered at all and seemed like he had better things to get on with. He kept insinuating that we had left the hot tub cover off or turned the hot tub off ( which we did not do) he then said someone would come and check on it at 12pm, after a hour no one had showed up so we rang mark again were we asked if anyone was coming and he then sighed really loudly on the phone and said “ there said they were coming at 12” . No one turned up till later and our hot tub was not sorted untill 5:45! We had paid a lot on money for the few days and was not treat how we would have liked !!!

We have just spent the New year break in the Amour Deluxe lodge. Firstly getting to the lodge is interesting with the small track leading down to the park, thankfully we didn't meet anyone coming the other way. The park is beautiful and well kept. Parking next to the lodge is always good. The lodge is very spacious and well equipped. The bedroom was very big not like other places we have stayed in, bath tub in the bedroom was a nice touch, except the hot water was not hot enough to enjoy a bath. After looking at the boiler a sign tells you not to touch the settings. The hot tub isn't under cover so due to the weather it was unusable. Comfortable bed. The small boudoir room was just missing whip's and chains. But the rug is comfy. Negative feedback is stop with the signs around the lodge, especially the one near the kitchen bin. Would we go again... Nice location but probably not.

This is our 6th year on coming here to Charlesworth lodges it's so peaceful. We come for a week once a year. Hottubs are brilliant. Just think the older lodges could do with a revamp springs coming through on sofa not comfy at all ,kithen cupboards vinil peeling off .Nice clean site hottubs get looked at every day the owner Emma so friendly

Charlesworth Lodges are a small group of Lodges near Glossop. My partner and I stayed here in May and our lodge was quite possibly one of the nicest Lodges we have been to (we have tried quite a few) My only worry was the road down to the lodges was very narrow and I dreaded to meet a car on the way in and out. The hot tub was perfect, the bed comfy, the whole location was beautiful. Because it is only a small park it is lovely and peaceful. Had a lovely chilled time away, thank you Charlesworth Lodges! We hope to come back in the future.

All I can say is wow was absolutely amazing and so quiet. We stayed in amour 1 and it was spotless and the hottub was lovely. Can't fault it 1 bit.

Originally booked this for myself and partner but due to unforseen circumstances he was unable to attend so myself and my two children came. It's lovely very tranquil and quiet very clean and cosy 😊 My boy's loved the hot tub. But I wouldn't recommend it for children as by the 3rd day they were getting a little board. I would definitely recommend for couples 🥂👍🏻

Self-catering accommodation
Toms Barn and Douglas Barn, located in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, were once ordinary farm buildings but have been transformed into charming romantic cottages. These cozy retreats are perfect for couples looking to spend quality time together in luxurious comfort. The cottages offer all the necessary amenities and more, including an iPad for entertainment. Guests can enjoy the peaceful surroundings of a quiet country village and take advantage of nearby walking and cycling trails. The welcoming owners ensure a pleasant stay with their warm hospitality.
An unbelievably wonderful holiday cottage. Set in a quiet country village and surrounded by fields, you can't go wrong with the barns here if you're looking for a quiet retreat. We were greeted with a warm and helpful welcome and we knew the owners would help with anything we needed. The barn itself has all the facilities you'd need, including a lot burner which is super nice, and a Jacuzzi bath. Fantastic.

A lovely peaceful cottage in a beautiful part of Derbyshire. Has everything you need and expect plus more. The iPad was a really nice touch. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is the "quirky " bathroom. The Whirlpool bath is a bit tricky getting in and out and we found that the hot water ran out about too quickly. Oh, the beams also meant getting to and from the right side of the bed was a memory test in the dark - you need to duck at the right times. So, if you have any sort of movement issues it's probably not the place for you. But would I go back? Yes.

Great place to stay for all the walking and cycling trails, Bakewell, Buxton, and Asbourne are all in striking distance. Parwich is a delight a classic Derbyshire village. Douglas barn, well what can I say, if I had a second home this would be it.....9/10.....

We go back year after year, very clean even before Covid, well run, nothing to much trouble for the owners. A peaceful hideaway
