The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a renowned bakery, deli, and restaurant that has been serving up the famous Bakewell pudding for years. The shop holds the original secret recipe under lock and key, sending out their delectable puddings to all corners of the globe. Visitors can also enjoy a delightful afternoon tea featuring various renditions of the iconic Bakewell treat.
A wonderful shop in Bakewell! The most delicious puddings, amazing food, lovely atmosphere with wonderful, friendly staff. Our experience was great, we went in for cream tea & the original Bakewell puddings. It was so nice we returned a few days later to have the cooked breakfast, Bakewell tart & deluxe hot chocolate! It was all so yummy! 100% recommend if you are travelling this way to pop in. Thank you ☺️

I had great service at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop and restaurant. I went up to the restaurant for breakfast, and was able to get a table, even though I didn’t have a reservation. I had the Original Pudding for breakfast, along with a pot of tea. It was DELICIOUS. I had bought a tart and pudding to bring back for my husband to try later, and we both preferred the pudding to the tart, though the in-restaurant experience, when it was served with warm custard, was the highlight. Would definitely go back!
Alyssa B — Google review
Went in for lunch for 3 people. The food was excellent, but the service was atrocious. After being seated we had to ask for a server so we could place our food order. We ordered a soup and a main course and the person bringing out the food had to ask if we wanted our soup served before the main course. Why would you want them together. We wanted Bakewell pudding for dessert and had to ask for our dishes to be cleared so we could order it. Meanwhile other tables were being cleared. I asked the person serving the food and he said he’d send our waitress, but she never showed up and we never saw her again. I did get the server to order it and then had to ask again that it had been ordered. It took over 15 minutes to get their signature dessert to us. Overall service was appalling. The place needs more staff and better communications between the staff they have and then with the customer.
Roland S — Google review
A nice spot for breakfast if visiting the area. Slightly strange smell upstairs in the restaurant and they had run out of orange juice on a Sunday morning (9am) - I gladly had the last one but the rest of the group went without! Food was tasty but not huge portions. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated quickly.
Ella — Google review
On the main road through Bakewell is the original Bakewell pudding shop. Excellent place, that sells original Bakewell puddings and tarts and loads of other sorts of tarts, cakes and savoury stuff. They also sell lots of drinks including ridiculously expensive bottles of beer . There is room for dining and also a small beer garden type place at the back. Lovely old building, spotlessly clean , with friendly, helpful staff.
Richard F — Google review
Hard to visit Bakewell and not partake of a tart/pudding. This was the place we chose and the light bites were very nice and good value. We tried a Bakewell Pudding and a tart and it was very nice indeed. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.
Mark F — Google review
The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a charming, well-maintained spot that feels deceptively spacious inside. Beyond its quaint exterior, the ground floor houses a bustling café, bakery counter, and gift shop, while upstairs offers a cozy restaurant serving cakes, drinks, and light bites. As a clear tourist hotspot, the shop was busy, with a lively atmosphere. The gift shop offers trinkets like mugs and jugs, with prices ranging from reasonable to pricey. Large Bakewell tarts were available for around £6. We headed upstairs to the restaurant, where a short wait led us to a warm, homely dining area. Limited seating added to the cozy charm, though it could mean a brief wait during peak times. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The menu leaned slightly expensive. A generous slice of delicious, fresh chocolate cake cost £6, while the famous Bakewell pudding, served with custard or cream, was £10 individually or £16 for a sharing option. Our group opted for individual puddings with custard. Though small, the puddings were warm, freshly baked, and delightful, paired with creamy custard. At £10, the price felt steep for the portion, but it’s a must-try in Bakewell. Alternatives like Bakewell tarts, sandwiches, and other cakes were also available. Overall, the experience was pleasant, blending touristy appeal with genuine charm. A visit here is worth it for the iconic pudding and cozy vibe.

Came here to try the famous pudding. Was surprised at the cost, so opted for a sharer between 4 of us. It was delicious - did not expect to like more than Bakewell tart but it definitely took poll position! Nice seating. Service was quite brusque

The Bakewell Tart Shop and Coffee House is a must-visit destination in the Peak District, known for its characterful cottages and cosy accommodations. The shop is famous for its Bakewell Tart, a delightful dessert with a shortbread crust, raspberry jam, icing, and a cherry on top. This iconic treat can be found in restaurants across England but is best enjoyed at its place of origin.
The Bakewell Tart Shop & Coffee House, situated in the main street of Bakewell, is a sweet spot for anyone who digs top-quality pastries and comfort food. I have a so‑so relationship with Bakewell tarts as there are few and far between, and often they are lacklustre in London. But here their Bakewell tarts and puddings are beautifully made and genuinely good. We loved them so much that we bought both the traditional and coconut Bakewell tart slices to take back to London. I am still not a fan of the iced tarts though. We also went for the afternoon tea, it was good, though I have had better elsewhere. But the meat pie with gravy hit the mark, hearty and satisfying. Service was top‑notch, and the coffees were expertly made. The café itself has the small town charm that complements the heritage of the place. Overall, I would recommend The Bakewell Tart Shop & Coffee House especially if you are in the area and craving a properly made Bakewell tart or a comforting pie.

Oh my gosh! If you're looking for the best place in town for a cuppa tea and a Bakewell pudding then this is the place. We had looked at a few cafes in town and decided upon this one and by god wasn't disappointed 💯. The Bakewell pudding was absolutely delicious fresh and came with a small jug of custard. The pot of tea came with an extra pot of hot water which was great. Everyone of their cakes on display looked absolutely amazing and wish I could have tried everyone of them. You can sit in or take your food away. After our food we returned later that afternoon for another cuppa tea and to pick up 2 take away Bakewell puddings for the next few days 😋 The shops has a small selection of merchandise including a must take home fridge magnet. Try this place and you won't be disappointed 😋💯❤️

My friends and I all had a Bakewell tart at the Bakewell Tart Shop & Coffee House, and we absolutely loved them! The tarts were delicious – rich, fresh, and full of flavour. I also had an oat milk chai latte, which was really tasty and perfectly spiced. It’s the only spot in Bakewell I would recommend for a Bakewell tart – definitely worth a visit!
Chloe B — Google review
Hands down, a place that has to be on the itinerary if you’re in Bakewell. Opted for the tart and pudding and both were yum! The flavour came through perfectly, without being excessively sweet and both were equally good. I would say the one you prefer comes down to a textural preference.
Daryl M — Google review
Nice Bakewellian café with the signature Bakewell tarts. Could come in and grab one to take home or dine in. We came for a snack and an afternoon dessert. Staff are friendly and we got to add a pin to the world map.
Linda C — Google review
Came for a small bite to eat for breakfast, in particular we came for the traditional bakewell pudding. There is an option for the pudding to be served with custard, cream, and ice cream however this did cost extra. I opted for custard and my partner got cream. The flavour was probably the best bakewell pudding I have had in the town, and I've visited most places that sell them as it's a bit of a tradition each time I come up. Not sure why the pictures have a green effect but it seems to be a reflection! Although the food was excellent, the falling down point was the price, as it definitely felt like tourist trap prices. The two bakewell puddings, one with cream, one with custard, and a single bottle of water came in at over £15, which for me, was too high for what you get, and takes it from 5 star, down to 4 star.

Amazing Bakewell puddings..which one can have with ice cream , cream or custard. Very good coffee as well. Staff are very friendly, prices are reasonable.

Very friendly staff lovely food and a great coffee, what more could you ask for. They have had a new makeover and it looks so much better. They also have a map of the world so visitors can ask to have their name on a flag and put on the country they live in, genius. Recommended.

Deli
The Loaf bakery in Derbyshire offers a wide variety of breads, cakes, pies and pastries. All of the products are made from scratch without any added preservatives. The bakery is popular with locals and tourists alike for its unique offerings.
I visited The Loaf on Saturday 21st January. We had seen reviews online and had been looking forward to visiting for breakfast/brunch. On arrival unfortunately no tables were available so we elected to wait inside for seating to become vacant. There is a seat in the corner of the shop adjacent to the counter that you can use as you wait and the friendly shop assistant asked us would we like a drink as we wait, we took her up on the offer and noticing that only one cheddar and stout sourdough loaf was left on the shelf asked would it be possible for them to remove it from sale and hold it behind the counter until we had eaten and was leaving? Once again the assistant was happy to help. Fortunately we did not have to wait long (approximately 5 minutes) for a table to become vacant. The menu had numerous delicious sounding dishes available and between the three of us we elected to have the rarebit and poached egg, avocado and grilled halloumi and creamy garlic mushrooms all of which were served on toasted sourdough. The food was delicious and all of us enjoyed what we had ordered, the quality of the tea and coffee was also fantastic and the service was excellent throughout. In addition to the bread, pastries and cakes the bakery also has some fantastic looking preserves and other deli items for sale. I would definitely recommend visiting this establishment if you are in the area. Thank you for our delicious brunch and see you next time we are in the area.

I took part in the half day sourdough course and it was exceptional. Keith knew everything there was to know about the bread making process. He made it informational, relaxed and fun. I ended up with two incredible loaves of sourdough as well as some Chelsea buns. Lots of snacks and drinks throughout the course was an additional bonus. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their baking. Thanks Keith and the entire Loaf team, you've got something really special here!

Ordered 2 pasties which were piping hot and really good. Called in another day for cake to take to a sick relative. Didn't get to try them but judging by the ack of choice when I got there in the afternoon they must be good

This is our local bakery. The bread is great, but I highly recommend their chicken and mushroom slices! As well as shopping we’ve also done one of their baking courses and have two more books. It was great fun and very informative too.

Loaf are one of our suppliers! Their customer service is first class, their bakes are phenomenal! We’ve been a couple of times for brunch and the service and food is exceptional.

OMG What's not to like! Lovely village (very small) with some typical village shops including the Loaf which is a bakery/cafe. The bread is famous across Derbyshire (and can be sourced at Matlock market on Wednesdays just be early!) and is just amazing. The cafe is busy locally and rightly so..... 5*s across the board

Nice place , could do with a more varied menu for breakfast . My order has been forgotten quiet often and when I asked about it the last time I was told they were busy and it was in the way , not very friendly - I watched as they then proceeded to speak to another team member and quiet clearly it had been forgotten . Dog friendly and the pizza take a way is great The quiche to take out is tasty

We used the Loaf’s delivery (and by accident collection) service via text. We ordered loaf boxes and various items to be delivered to ourselves and our in-laws. The service provided by Suzie and the team was really good, the food itself is fresh and so tasty. With excellent feedback to all those we shared it with. I can’t wait until lockdown is lifted so we can go and try The Loaf’s cafe facilities. Thank you again, you’ve been brilliant!

Turned up on a snowy Sunday and I was thrilled to find it both open, and serving hot pies, I couldn’t believe my luck! Amazing place, everything was delicious and made with care, outdoor seating was nice and the staff were super friendly and helpful. An absolute gem. Will definitely be coming back.

My partner and I came in and bought a couple of Vegan Homity Pies to take on a walk. Absolutely sensational, and a real treat to be able to find somewhere like this with lots of vegan options! We saved some for when we are back at the AirBnB to have warm, too. Also grabbed a vegan Bakewell Tart which we'll enjoy later. Will be returning tomorrow to stock up for our freezer at home! :)

THE go to place for locally made gifts by post. A delicious box of Brownies arriving through the letterbox never fails to delight! Lovely staff, great bakery, vegan and gf options

It was really busy when we arrived and the poor staff were working really hard — yet they still kept their cool and their sense of humour! The food was AMAZING 😋 We also bought a full Bakewell Tart to take home. Well, some of it to take home!

Really good customer service. From my enquiry online before coming to the Peak District and when we came for lunch, service was exceptional. Didn't hesitate to answer our dietary questions, was honest in their answers and food was delicious. Hot food served till 2pm. I had the hot homity pie, my brother had chilli non carne and we both had the Bakewell tarts. Tea was a good mug of tea (if you know, you know). Highly recommend and the half hour trip just to come here was worth it. Photo of the food doesn't do it justice. Tastier than it perhaps looks.
Zulekha T — Google review
Amazing pies ahhh ! A homity pie was just what we needed on day two of the Limestone way, which navigated us along the River Bradford where we saw lots of families enjoying a day by the riverside, closely replicating the joys of Georges Seurat ! Whilst we were hesitant to stop off in the nearby village and keep our walking momentum going (my boyfriend didn’t understand that a holiday is about taking some time out to enjoy ourselves), a short walk up the hill into the village and a small sign indicating pies, cakes and more led us to Peak Feast ! We actually weren’t sure what a homity pie was, but on further days in the Peaks noted that they seemed to be quite famous in the area, filled with a comforting potato and leek filling topped with a cheesy crust. The pie is veggie and you can have a vegan version too, either way they’re banging, peng potato pies. There are also a number of veggie and vegan cakes plus home cooked meals in the fridge freezer which also all looked delicious , we recommend the apricot cashew cake !
Ultegra M — Google review
Tip top lunch today, thank you! My omni friends love your homity pies and I enjoyed the chilli non carne. And Bakewell tarts to go. What a find 👌

Delicious food! Perfect for a quick lunch after a hike in the surrounding area. The staff were nice enough to serve us after the official closing time as well which was very much appreciated. We also got some frozen meals to eat for later which were just as good as the food on site. Also very impressed with the compostable plates/utensils! And lastly.. Coffee is amazing. Definitely a highlight of the Peak District :)

The Penny Pot Cafe is a charming spot nestled near Edale Station, making it convenient for visitors arriving by train from Manchester or Sheffield. The cafe offers delightful hot chocolates and features indoor seating with a wood-burning stove, as well as outdoor seating under trees and a covered area for shelter during rainy days in the Peak District. Additionally, it boasts a book swap library where patrons can exchange books or make donations.
Such a beautiful cute little cafe with plenty of seating at the rear. It used to be a train ticket office , now rebuilt as a cafe after it burnt down back then. Prompt service. Smiley faces of staff. Delicious food before starting hike.

Perfect place to start day or hiking. It was lil chilly day so try to grab a coffee on my way. They were busy at the time but still hood and quick service. Very convenient location next to station.
Win T — Google review
The only option for food around here so it's not like you have a choice, doesn't really matter what I write in this review 😁 It was good though. Cyclists stop here on their 5,000 mile ride to rest and refuel. It has a nice vibe to it.
Mana J — Google review
This cafe must get missed by so many people, head towards the station and you will come across the most unassuming building housing a little gem of a cafe, nestled in the Edale valley with wonderful home made pastries and good selection of coffees and teas. There is also plenty of seating inside and out (front and out back). It’s a must to try if you’re just stopping off, or finishing a walk, I would highly recommend it.
Steve C — Google review
The café is conveniently situated adjacent to the train station. Inside, a display provides the upcoming train schedules, ensuring you won't miss your connection. Furthermore, the availability of Wi-Fi is quite advantageous, especially given the lack of a data signal in the vicinity. I found the mocha coffee to be quite enjoyable, and the cherry bakewell was simply superb.
Jiri V — Google review
The great place to start your adventure in this area. Clean toilet. Next to the bus stop and the train platform. They also gave a free walking trail map. Absolutely recommended to visit.

Did Mam Tor and Kinder Scout few days ago from Edale. Once you hop off the train, you'll be greeted by this quaint cafe. I had coffee, matcha late and pastries which were all very good. My personal favorite is the carrot cake.

Such a friendly cafe. I stopped here for a coffee at 8am before setting out on a walk and the gentleman serving was the appropriate level of chatty and cheery even at such an early time. I'll be planning more walks featuring this lovely cafe.

Nestled in the heart of Whaley, The Bridge Bakehouse has been a beloved local spot since its inception by two sisters in 2013. This charming establishment is renowned for its delightful cherry bakewells, which many claim surpass those found in Bakewell itself. Lunchtime favorites include their gooey grilled cheese sandwiches and legendary sausage rolls that keep patrons coming back for more.
My partner and I were over from Australia recently and stayed with our family in Whaley. We visited the Bakehouse several times and had an amazing experience every time. The food quality and variety was excellent, and we both received excellent customer service. The lovely ladies behind the counter gave us several travel recommendations, often asking us on our next visit how our day trips had been. I have also been to the Bakehouse on previous trips back home, and have always had consistent 5 star service, food and drinks. Keep up the great work ladies - we can’t wait to come back for another visit!!

Called on a Monday afternoon. Disappointing unfortunately. It's not really a cafe. It's a bakery with plastic, pink and purple chairs and tables outside (not very clean - we saw no cleaning between customers at all)on a very busy road. I don't remember seeing any indoor seating. Coffee is in cardboard cups and food was served in cardboard boxes. 'Cakes' were all traybakes or that type and £4 a piece. As I suffer with dysphagia (due to extensive radiotherapy not just fussy!) we asked if it was possible to have some pouring cream so that I would be able to swallow it but that was just a flat 'no'. Staff didn't appear terribly happy 😕 But it has 5 stars for food and hygiene and seemed popular so if you're after a takeaway (and don't have any eating problems) it is quite adequate (hopefully the staff were just having an off day🤷🏻‍♀️)

Visited Bridge bakehouse for the 1st time after trying some of their goodies at one of their wholesale. Wow the counter selection was incredible, so much variety. I went for their deal of 4 itens for £15.00 and selected a churro cookie that was really nice, the snickers brownie that was packed with flavour (the only thing that I would point is that personally I would prefer the top chocolate layer was more soft rather than hard chocolate, but still very yummy), the caramel and pistachio blondie was really nice (they completely nail the blondie fudginess that I love) and a biscoff slice that was really good as well. We didn't try the pastries or cakes so I can't comment on that. But their cookies, brownies and blondies are outstanding and always really good. Everytime we drive to this area we buy some goodies at the local places they supply as wholesale. If you are in the area, definitely try it out

Visited this place while staying in Whaley Bridge and what a lovely place with good food and great staff. They were very friendly and welcoming. We had cheese and onion pasties, which were nice and a custard tart and a Bakewell slice, which were really yummy 😋 We called on our way home and took some brownies home for my son, which again were lovely. Nice little area to sit outside too. Would definitely recommend and they told us we could order online for home delivery which is definitely worth considering 😊👍🏼

Such a fantastic bakery and breakfast place! I had avocado on toast with eggs. They had avocado on toast with bacon and an egg listed, but when I asked to switch the bacon for another egg (as I’m vegetarian) they did this without question. Serving portions were big, got four slices of toast with avocado and two eggs and a huge portion of rocket salad on the side. I also ordered some of their brownies to take home and the giant jammy dodger and Dubai brownie were absolutely amazing.

Presentation poor and extremely overdone bacon! Not what you expect for. £5.50 sandwich. I have been going for years and presentation and quality have declined. Atmosphere frosty. Service got a 4 as the lady who took the order was very polite and it was ready in the time they advised.

What a gem of a place! Must visit if you are around the area. We had a pie and a soup and we had to come back for a pasty as they were too good! They have lots of cakes and we tried the vegan brownie which is amazing. Friendly staff. Only but was the ciabatta bread that came with the soup which was not toasted (personal preference, I like crunchy bread)

Nestled in a charming locale, The Cherry Tree is a delightful pub that has garnered enthusiastic praise for its exceptional food and inviting atmosphere. This cash-only establishment prides itself on serving high-quality dishes without the interference of delivery platforms, ensuring every meal is fresh and delicious. Diners can customize their orders to suit their preferences, making it a flexible dining option. The menu boasts an impressive variety of savory options alongside tempting cakes and baked goods.
We had dinner here as we were staying in the area. The pub has a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere, staff was friendly and helpful, clean environment and toilets. We loved the chips (not frozen). Had the chicken special for the day, my partner had a burger and my son lasagne. We were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures of the food 🤭but it all tasted great! Parking available at the rear and nice views of the surrounding fields.

We found this place after calling into a pub that didn’t sell food but a local lad told us to try The Cherry Tree and we were so glad we did. It was busy and really friendly with plenty of things to look at on the walls. My Mum is originally from Barnsley so was sending her some of the Yorkshire mottos on the walls. After a short wait our food was ready and OMG it was so homely and perfect for Sunday. We had the lamb tagine (gluten free) and steak and kidney pudding - the chips were divine and I will definitely drive the 90 mins just to eat here again xx

10 of us went today (18/5/2025) had a great welcome from the team there and the food is fantastic!.I chose to have the Sunday lunch everyone else had different things and they all remarked how lovely the food was.The pub itself is a lovely place overlooking the countryside and the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us..Thank-you to everyone at The Cherry Tree we will almost certainly be back.

Can't fault this, lovely clean pub. Loads of tables outside and big car park. Good varied menu ( even dog one too). Our big Greyhound was allowed in the bar area to settle while we ate. Food was hot, really tasty and plentiful. ( maybe a tad too much salad) but nothing to detract from the amazing food, good thick ham, with loads of pickles, the piccalilli was gorgeous. Chicken sandwich had lovely stuffing on and with a plate of chips ( not fries 👍) so good. Staff attentive but not too in your face. Great pub, definitely coming back. Oh yes, good variety of drinks too...😁

Nestled in the heart of Whaley Bridge, The Village Kitchen is a charming family-run café that radiates warmth and hospitality. With its sun-drenched terrace seating, it’s an ideal spot to unwind while indulging in classic café fare and delightful homemade cakes. Be sure to sample their Derbyshire oatcakes paired with a slice of Manchester tart for a sweet treat that hits all the right notes. The atmosphere is inviting, enhanced by friendly staff who are dedicated to providing excellent service.
Fantastic, tasty food and good sized portions. The staff are very attentive and friendly with the whole experience being great value for money. This place is a little gem…always a winner when we eat here. Easily 5 stars but would give more if I could!! The home baked cakes are just wow….

Please try it, you won't be disappointed! Portions sizes are generous. Quality of ingredients is excellent. Proper selection of homemade cakes, 1 between 2 people will usually be enough!. Do check opening times though as not open all day every day. There is some outside eating at the back. Lovely family owned business with great service.

Really, really good restaurant. Absolutely come here! The food was fast, hearty, tasty and reasonably priced, and there were a few vegan options. All staff members we spoke to were absolutely lovely. I really likes that there were two outdoor seating areas (upstairs and downstairs) that are pretty well-spaced out. Additionally there are hand sanitisers in every condiment bucket. A new employee was being trained, and it was really nice to hear the (strict) disinfecting practices that were in place. My only negative is that a few staff members weren't wearing masks, however due to the rest of the procedures, I still felt safe.

Stopped by for a bite to eat at lunch time and blown away by the quality (and portions) of food. Freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. If you in Whaley bridge and want a friendly greeting plus a hearty breakfast or lunch at a very reasonable price, you have to have to give this place a go!

Nestled in the heart of the breathtaking Peak District National Park, Wetton Mill Tea Rooms is a delightful stop for anyone exploring the area. Just a short stroll from Wetton village car park, this charming café offers an inviting atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating alongside the river. After a day of hiking to Thors Cave or cycling along the Manifold Valley trail, visitors can indulge in an array of homemade cakes, savory snacks, and freshly made sandwiches.
A group of 11 of us went on Saturday at the end of a hike to Thor’s cave and Manifold Valley. Although it was after 4pm the place was buzzing with customers and it was a great atmosphere everyone was really friendly. There is outdoor and in door seating and the location is great situated next to the river. We were very excited to see the selection of homemade cakes which looked really yummy. It was shame they had ran out of scones so had lemon drizzle cake instead which was really good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Would really recommend this place if you are in the area.

Great place, fast service and kind people. We were here on a very sunny day. The scones were delicious. Really loved it. Two cats were entertaining us by trying to eat from our plates and try to drink coffee milk from the milk can. We loved this place and its ambiance.

Nice pastie, we have Black coffee so had to have spooned / jar coffee as their machine didn’t do black. Lovely selection of cakes. Great location at the side of the river, very handy for a stop off during your walk, close to Thors cave, free roadside lay-by parking Toilet attached Very popular with hikers, bikers and cyclists
Wayne G — Google review
This place is average at best I am sorry to say. The staff did their best, but the food isn't great. The bacon sandwich was a limp and used sliced bread instead of a bap / roll. There were no vegetarian options and no eggs there. The setting is lovely, the cats make for good entertainment.
Meeker M — Google review
What a lovely secret hidden in the Manifold valley! Highly recommend stop-off place if your walking or cycling the famous trail. Lovely Rocky Road and a smashing mug of tea. Thank you!
Andrew I — Google review
Our plan was to walk up to Thors cave at sunrise and come down for breakfast at 9:30 at the cafe when it opened. As the signs said carpark for cafe customers only we thought it appropriate to park there in advance. However when back at the car 10 minutes before opening time, a passive aggressive note was left on the car reading “this is a private property/not a carpark. Please learn to read signs” signed “J.Mellor”. Considering the area is very clearly sign posted car park for customers only I find this comically ironic.

Nestled in the heart of Holmfirth, Holme Coffee House is a charming independent coffee shop that welcomes both humans and their furry companions. Since opening its doors in 2019, this vibrant spot has been dedicated to serving locally roasted artisan coffee from Bean Brothers alongside a contemporary menu filled with delicious options for breakfast, brunch, and snacks. With a cozy atmosphere that accommodates around 20 guests, it’s the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle outside.
Hidden away beside a small river in the middle of Holmfirth sits a jewel known only to the locals and a few passers by. Holme Coffee House is a little sanctuary from the chill after your walk with your canine friend. The friendly service, the soft lighting and the good music are the first things that welcome you, but the great coffee and amazing food will make you come back. Freshly cooked sausage and egg on a soft warm ciabatta with a small pot of brown sauce, I was even given a separate sausage for Trixie, nicely chopped up for her convenience. If you ever find yourself in Holmfirth, give them a visit and show them some love

Lovely little spot for coffee and brunch. It's a small place, with a few tables but makes for a lovely atmosphere. Coffee (Bean Brothers, Huddersfield) was outstanding. High chairs available for little ones - our two year old particularly enjoyed the bacon (as did mum and dad!)

Came back to update my review, after visiting again and eating here. Food really good, my bagel was ok but the eggs looked much better. Really lovely coffee shop! Lovely little cafe! Visited this morning after a wander around the charity shops, I did plan on getting a takeaway coffee but my baby bump meant I needed to sit down for a little bit. I got a flat white and enjoyed it very much. Staff are incredibly friendly, would 100% come back for food as menu looked really nice.

Harriet R — Google review
Friendly and really helpful staff. Drinks and breakfast really nice, I'd prefer a little more choice but we all enjoyed what we had. Ciabatta probably not everyone's choice for breakfast sandwiches and I would propose a choice of breads if possible. Nice though. A touch on the expensive side but not outrageous.
Daniel M — Google review
We visited Holmfirth on a wet and miserable day and this coffee shop was a welcome haven. It probably sits around 20 people so it’s quite small but we managed to get a table for two. There was plenty of choice on the menu for breakfast, brunch, snacks and an array of speciality teas and coffees. We opted for the ‘specials’ - pumpkin spice hot chocolate and biscotti latte both of which were amazing. We also couple of cakes which were delicious. The staff seem to be mostly young girls who are very helpful and friendly. The whole place was clean and had a lovely atmosphere, and quirky decor. I always check out the toilets - On this occasion there was only one unisex toilet but it was clean. If I’m ever in Holmfirth again I would make a beeline for this place!

The Refreshment Room is a themed cafe located along the popular Monsal Trail, which used to be a railway line. It's a convenient stop for cyclists and walkers traveling between Buxton and Bakewell. The cafe offers a large menu with hot and cold food, drinks, ice cream, cakes, and coffee.
Wonderful meal, large portions and good value for money compared to other cafes we have been to. We had the posh dog which came with a good size side salad and chips. Good coffee too. Had been out on a long trail walk so very greatful to find a cafe halfway through. Highly recommend.

£18.10 for 2 microwaved Scotch eggs, a black coffee in a takeway cup, bottle of soft drink and packet of crisps. No wonder they don't show prices in the shop!! Edit: according to your menu on the website, what I should have paid was £14.65 not £18.10, based on takeaway Americano £3.15, bottle of pop £2.45, Crisps £1.15 and two Scotch Eggs @ £3.95. Can you explain this discrepancy? Also, as for your statement about prices available, there was no drinks prices on chalkboard advertising drinks nor was there any prices on counter display where scotch eggs, sausage rolls etc were displayed?

An Absolutely Outstanding Experience at The Refreshment Room! My recent visit to The Refreshment Room at Millers Dale - Buxton was truly exceptional, not just for the delicious food, but for the incredible kindness and helpfulness of the lady who I spoke to over the phone. We enjoyed a fantastic meal – the food was great and perfectly hit the spot after our walk. However, the real highlight of our visit came after we had already left. My grandfather, unfortunately, realized he had left his glasses in the disabled toilet, and we were already a considerable distance from Buxton, having arrived back home. In a bit of a panic, we contacted The Refreshment Room by phone, explaining our predicament. To our immense relief and gratitude, the lady we spoke to immediately understood the situation. She went above and beyond, promptly finding the glasses, and reassuring us that they were safe with her. What truly touched us was her willingness to then happily post them back to us. This act of genuine generosity saved us a very long and inconvenient journey back. This lady is truly a gem, and her helpfulness and kindness are a testament to the wonderful people still out there in the world. We are incredibly thankful for her thoughtful assistance. I sincerely hope The Refreshment Room continues to thrive and receives all the success it deserves. It's local businesses like this, run by such compassionate individuals, that truly make a difference. We can't recommend it highly enough!

Rude staff. Ordered two scotch eggs and two coffees. Young lady didn't listen. She only prepared one scotch egg. Had to microwave another and said it was our fault for not ordering correctly. From the conversation between the ladies serving, they were very hungover apparently! In the wrong job if we are an inconvenience. Shame as lovely setting.

Nice café on the Monsal trail old railway line in an old station. Very handy for walkers and cyclists. The usual hot and cold food and drinks and ice cream with tables inside and out. Good prices but a bit of an odd system for ordering, paying and waiting. Not very customer focused.

An Exceptional Experience – Heartfelt Thanks to Rachel! We visited The Refreshment Room in Millers Dale last week with our family, including my 89-year-old grandfather. The setting was beautiful, the refreshments delightful, and the atmosphere welcoming — a perfect countryside stop during our day out near Buxton. After returning home (quite a distance away), we realised that my grandfather had accidentally left his glasses behind at the café. He was very worried, and we weren’t sure how to go about retrieving them. I decided to call the number listed on Google Maps, and that’s when we encountered the true kindness and humanity behind this wonderful place. A lovely lady named Rachel answered the phone, took the time to look for the glasses herself, found them, and – without hesitation – offered to post them back to us. She even refused to accept any payment for the postage. In a world where such thoughtful gestures can often feel rare, Rachel’s kindness truly stood out. It meant the world to my grandfather and to all of us as a family. We are deeply grateful and wish Rachel and The Refreshment Room continued success, prosperity, and happiness. Your kindness will not be forgotten — thank you once again for going above and beyond!

I bought 2 tuna and mayonnaise rolls, well I have just come back from LA, California,, and when you taste food out there you will find out we really don’t have a clue about food!!! I spend a lot of time out there as my Fiancé is from LA. What ever food you go for whether or not it’s just a light bite or a actual meal it’s QUALITY tasty and just too good. Even the the little cafes out there prepare and make your sandwiches with perfection and quality. HOWEVER....first time I had to go into a sandwich shop over here was this little place as I’m working in the area or near by! I thought it’s small and they will concentrate on making your food properly as I was use to high quality back home as I call it...(LA) as this is the pinakel if what’s left in this run down conservative ruined country (I can’t wait to leave!!!) so any way I was totally wrong about the shop this Olaf lady served me was not friendly didn’t smile looked as if she was about to cry. Anyway she tells me we only have white rolls left I said that’s ok. (It’s also a bread shop!!) so this bread roll I ordered was hard un fresh and just because it’s covered in flower it don’t mean it’s fresh!!! She grabbed it from display out the window!!!! Sun had been on it all morning a djit was dry. The tuna she slapped on it anyhow was hardly enough to cover half the roll let alone a full one! It was cheap horrible tasteless tuna with very very little cheap tasting mayonnaise!!! Unbelievable!!!! After making the mistake of biting into it I found myself chewing a clump of Long grey hair!!!!! DISGUSTING!!! It made me sick!!! I threw them away. And went back to work hungry!!! I pulled out long grey hair that was wrapped around my tongue and throat!!!! I was hawking this up as it was choking me!!! I felt like a cat chucking up a furball!!! Just avoid eating from this place if you want to stay healthy they have no food and hygiene certificates on display I presume they don’t have any!!! And bushy grey fly away hair from the lady that served me she should be wearing gloves or at least a hair net!!! Made me sick just AVOID it you will see what I’m talking about!!!

Pig and Pepper, an independent bakery that opened its doors in 2017, has quickly become a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. Nestled in a stunning new location on High Street, this charming spot is renowned for its freshly baked bread, delectable pastries, and mouthwatering cakes. But that's not all—Pig and Pepper also doubles as a bread school!
The Pig and Pepper very kindly helped us by making some delicious mini scones and cinnamon buns for a tea performance we were doing during the Buxton Fringe. This is a very busy time of year for them and yet they took the time to make them for us, even including cream and jam along with the mini scones which was above and beyond what we were expecting! Everyone really enjoyed the tea and especially the treats made by Pig and Pepper. We stopped by again the next day to get some bread and a few more cinnamon buns for ourselves. We’ll come back if we’re ever in town again and we came all the way from Chicago, so we’d highly recommend Pig and Pepper!

I ordered a special treat for my sisters birthday and honestly I am so gutted that I don't live close enough to come to this bakery again and again! Really friendly staff and amazing cakes and savoury treats. Great for breakfast cobs too. Everything at very reasonable prices too, especially the individual pieces of cake at just over £1 each. Thoroughly recommended

Bakery
Wye Bakehouse is a charming artisan bakery nestled in Bakewell, Derbyshire. Established in 2016 by Jonathan Rolfe, the bakery prides itself on using traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients to create an array of delectable breads, pastries, and cakes. Their offerings are influenced by global traditions, resulting in unique flavors and textures. Visitors rave about the delightful Christmas Stollen with its moist, cherry and chocolate-filled interior.
Wow wow wow the cardamom bun was incredible - perfect flavour and texture. We passed by at around 8:30pm (on our way back from the brewery!) and were surprised to see this place was still open - not only that but they had loads of products still available and still tasting really fresh. Really friendly and helpful staff. Don’t pass this by if you’re visiting Bakewell - everything we bought was great but the cardamom bun was truly amazing!

A hidden gem just outside the town center! Scrumptious sourdough breads and delicious pastries – the focaccia is a must-try. You can taste the love and tradition in every bite, making this bakery truly unforgettable
Gabi — Google review
Really great bread and pastries made authenticity without all the additives in mass produced products. I particularly love the rye and sunflower seed loaf. Can't recommend highly enough.
Claire R — Google review
Nice foccacia. A loaf of sourdough is £7 - it looked overdone, so didn't buy one. The person who served us had no gloves but was touching their phone, hair and glasses then handling and tapping the loaves which was very off putting and left us feeling doubtful about the overall hygiene of the place.
Anna — Google review
Absolutely outstanding food! The focaccia is superb. This is now a must visit every time we head into Bakewell. Thank you.

Spontaneous visit in the rain. Bought some gorgeous sourdough and cinnamon buns and drinks. Nice chap, impressive food.
Janet B — Google review
Wonderful bakery that sells their products at the door. We had coffee as well and sat on the wall opposite. Fantastic quality food.
Patsy — Google review
Small bakery making a delicious selection of cakes and pastries. Our particular favourites are the focaccia, potato bread, almond croissant and cardamon bins! They now have a coffee machine too, so you can get a takeaway coffee. The coffees are excellent.

Jacksons the Bakers, a long-standing craft bakery established in 1944, prides itself on producing high-quality baked goods using unique recipes passed down through generations. The bakery is committed to using only the finest ingredients, such as non-hydrogenated fats and free-range eggs. Currently operated by Cyril Jackson's great-nephew Trevor Jackson and his wife Jane, the establishment continues to uphold the fine family traditions initiated by Cyril in the 1940s.
Core memory of my time living in England and later visiting with my daughter. Best bakewell I've ever tasted. Love this place and cannot wait to return!
Liz A — Google review
What can I say, the bakery is lovely but my word how the staff members speak to people is appalling, one impartial staff member spoke me to like I was a complete moron, after asking for a bun that was in the window tutting at me and basically threw my change at me Clearly she's not happy working there I honestly felt like giving my purchases back and saying I want my money back I was disgusted and so were a few more customers behind me Absolute lacking in respect and customer care. Disgusting behaviour!! Never again will I give them my money
Hayley M — Google review
Came today I always call in when in chesterfield and the customer service was awful. There isn’t any names or prices in the window on the bakery items and was looked at like a piece of muck when I asked what they were called. The younger girl was just rude. Definitely won’t be going back. The cakes/ bakery items were so so dry and stale.
Sophie P — Google review
Visited today for the bakery. The cakes in the window are not labelled or priced, so we had to point instead of asking for each cake by its name, which made it very awkward. It was made especially awkward and unpleasant when the woman who "served" us was the least cooperative and most miserable person ever on earth. She kept looking out of the window looking fed up and bored when we were ordering. She never asked if we wanted items separately packaged and then when she had finished she didn't ask if we needed a carrier bag so we asked for one and she just passed it over for us to pack ourself. Furthermore when she gave us the bill she never said "please" or "Thank you" and just held the card machine towards us and then we left feeling disgusted by this establishment.
Oliver P — Google review
Awful service. It seemed to be too much trouble for a staff member to serve me. She was miserable, no please or thank you. Maybe it's time for her to find a job which better suits her! Whatever happened to customer service? Food was dry and tasteless.
Andrew T — Google review
Let's talk staff first! Unfortunately any of the staff lack proper customer service skills, unless you fit their clique of course in which case they're slightly better. Although it's very obvious they would rather talk to each other. The sandwiches are bang average. However if you go for a hot roast option you might be lucky enough to get a lovely bit of foil hidden in there somewhere. If you're really lucky it might even get lodged in your throat. The service is slow and for some reason the servers can't remember more than one sandwich order at a time. If you try and order more than one sandwich, they'll either walk away from you or ask you repeatedly what you want on them. Convenient location in the town centre and if you're really lucky you might get service with a smile.

Coffee shop
Cotton is a delightful coffee shop that has quickly become a favorite in Stoke-on-Trent, known for its exceptional artisanal brews and welcoming atmosphere. The knowledgeable baristas, including the friendly Paul, are always ready to answer questions and provide recommendations. With reasonable prices and an impressive flat white that stands out as the best in town, Cotton is not just about great coffee; it’s also about fostering community spirit in an area that's on the rise.
GREAT artisanal coffee, knowledgeable bariatas - reasonable prices, really welcoming staff. (Shout out to lovely Paul who handled all my questions about the new builds around.) Came here twice in its first week and already they seem pretty set up even though the surrounds are still up-and-coming. This area and this coffee shop serves to help lift Stoke-on-Trent out of the past. It's housed in a new build co-working space so it has the exposed ceiling pipe work/ventilation and big open studio space vibe - very trendy. Definitely recommend stopping by if you've got time before your train/after your train as it's right next to Stoke Station. Also note - my friend had a mocca and it was made with real chocolate drops - the good stuff.
Joshua M — Google review
What a dissapointment, hard to find the entrance, A boards but no signage, poor parking in fact hardly any! Cold uninviting and staff with an attitude, a few cakes displayed covered in cling film. The smallest coffee cup and no saucer, however it did taste good. Maybe my expectations were too high? Certainly not the coffee shop experience I was hoping for.
Jeanette W — Google review
Really disappointed that the drinks are served only in take away cups. Would have expected a new modern business to be more environmentally friendly especially in Stoke home of the potteries. Spacious modern interior that due to it being quiet lacked atmosphere. The batista was not at all friendly, especially for such a new venture when they should be encouraging customers. Really wanted to like this new place but wouldn't rush back. They currently are not serving food so unable to comment on the food. Coffee was okay but nothing special.
Anthony B — Google review
Easily the best coffee I’ve ever had in Stoke-on-Trent. Good quality roast and baristas who are concerned with the preparation of the coffee. It was a little bit hot to my taste but I gave this feedback and they were really receptive and my second was perfect. Good atmosphere really nice for doing a little bit of work with no pressure to leave or keep buying, there was just a general chill feel.
James N — Google review
Brilliant staff with great looking drinks and food and much cheaper than the coffee shops in the station or starbucks. Highly Recommend definitely will be going back. They do have a minimal range at the moment as they have just opened but if anyone whines about that they clearly have the brain capacity of a garden shed.
Flo P — Google review
COTTON is opposite The Pavilion and is part of the foyer for the apartment complex. The lady was warm and welcoming with a very good attitude along with her knowledge of the produce and drinks available. There is a good selection of tea flavours, coffee along with a selection of sandwiches and cakes. The drinks are available for either on or off the premises in either ceramic mugs or cardboard lidded cups. There is also seating available outside in the garden area. The route from the highway and pavement is slightly inclined but this is level all the way from the pavement to the COTTON serving counter. A lot of what is offered has increased since the original opening day a few weeks ago. Thursday 18th September 2025.
Werrington W — Google review
Strange place to put coffee shop. Seems like it’s basically the foyer of an apartment block. Awful drab place to visit. Concrete floor huge concrete post in the middle of the place. No effort into the decor. Coffee was not nice.
Jacqui A — Google review
Was really looking forward to visiting Cotton. Turned up at 3.30 sat afternoon. Passed 3 notice boards stating "Cotton open". Approached the doors and couldn't get in. It looked dark inside and uninviting. We tried all the doors again with no luck. A couple of people inside were drinking a tea/coffee. They weren't interested in helping us to get in. We left and went to the cafe in the Range. Won't be visiting Cotton again for a long time .

Bakery
Kuma-San Bakehouse, nestled in the charming town of Matlock, Derbyshire, is a delightful artisan bakery that has been captivating locals and visitors alike since its inception in 2018. Founded by Miyo Nagano, a talented Japanese baker who relocated to the UK in 2015, this bakery pays homage to her husband David with its unique name.
Been wanting to try this micro bakery for a while but the matcha Loaf which piqued my interest has been unavailable since I signed up. Eventually placed an order for the country sourdough, which is a good quality Loaf offering good crumb and flavour, at a good price. Looking forward to the matcha Loaf, but expecting a literal bun fight to get it! Crossing fingers and toes

Ever since coming back from Japan, it's been hard to find tasty Japanese baked goods in the UK. Found Kuma-san online and ordered Japanese Pullman and Apple custard buns. Absolutely delicious! We highly recommend Kuma-san Bakehouse. 🐻🍞💖
Jess S — Google review
Collected my first order from Kuma-San Bakery today, having read reviews of their recent award winning online. What an incredible find. The bread is absolutely delicious and up there with some of the best bread I’ve eaten, some of which had been double the price at big city artisan bakeries. Such a find to have this within a few miles. I’d highly recommend trying and will certainly be back regularly.
Tracy G — Google review
Hugely enjoyed my first ever order yesterday; still warm when I picked it up; the 4 miles home seemed a long way in anticipation of trying it. We had a white sourdough and a cotton loaf, and my smile got bigger with each bite. Without getting too carried away, I'd rate this as THE BEST bread I ever had in my life; can't wait to try the others. The ordering and pickup process is easy and the friendly personal service is I think something I've missed for years in the age of online shopping and big supermarkets. I cannot believe we have Kuma-San Bakehouse on our doorstep; thank you Miyo for doing what you do; we are lucky to have you.
Mark S — Google review
I ordered the Japanese Cottonloaf after having been fortunate enough to visit Japan and fall in love with the light and soft loaves there. Miyo's bread was absolutely delicious and just what I was hoping for! It was so soft and had wonderful flavour as well. You can really tell the years of practice and dedication behind her baking. It had that flavour and texture that you only really get with homemaking as opposed to factory baking. Having it for toast was like munching on buttery clouds. I shared the loaf with my partner and family and we all agree it was well worth a trip to Matlock. (Bonus: Some nice views of the rolling hills as you go.) I'm so glad that a business like Miyo's is out there. I shall be subscribing to the weekly mailing list -- I'm looking forward to my next loaf!
Freja P — Google review
So lucky to have this award-winning ultra-local micro-bakery near us! The freshly baked loaves are to die for, as are the incredible sweet treats. (Especially the soft & fluffy shokupan or the flavoursome brioche) And the fusion of French and Japanese baking influences is divine. And of course Miyo is best of all; always friendly and so knowledgeable & passionate about the breads. We love to pick up a Saturday treat from here.
Matt I — Google review
Fantastic, authentic Japanese bakery. After living in Japan I spent years trying to find in the UK bread that reminded of my time there, relying for years on Japanese bread bought sporadically on trips to London. When I discovered Kuma-San right here in Derbyshire I couldn't believe my luck. The cotton loaf and shokupan are just like the fluffy rich toast I remember. The patisserie items are just as good, especially the melon pan, an exclusively Japanese favourite. The sweet coating stays crisp on top for days, more so even than those I used to buy from Lawson or Family Mart back in Kanagawa. Also fantastic are the award winning non-Japanese breads. How can a baguette remind me of Japan? Well, when you buy a baguette in Tokyo it is as though you'd bought it in Paris such is their attention to authenticity and quality. The same is true at Kuma San bakery where the breads have the same attention to detail.
マギルデービッド — Google review
Probably the best artisan bakery in the UK, or at least Derbyshire. Their Pullman loaf is so soft and tasted so much better than any supermarket bread. From the very first bite it’s clear that only the finest ingredients are used and the loaves are baked to perfection by their award winning baker. Unfortunately there were no cakes left for me to try.
