Pub
The Kelham Island Tavern, situated in the historic Kelham Island area of Sheffield, is a charming pub with a rich history dating back to the 1830s. Renowned for its carved wooden bar and tiled floors, this establishment offers a warm welcome and a wide selection of craft beers and real ales. The pub has been recognized by CAMRA for its exceptional range of around a dozen real ales and craft beers on tap, including offerings from local breweries such as Bradfield Brewery.
Immaculately kept/served cask beer. Great range of trad UK and modern US styles. £3.80 bitter/pale. Blue Bee house beers typically more US hopped, dry, bitter and excellent. Efficient and knowledgeable staff. If you're one of few reviewers who felt the staff didn't jolly you up enough then maybe check out hooters instead.
Joe D — Google review
The Kelham Island Tavern is a traditional pub. There is a wide selection of beers lager and cider including six hand pulled cask conditioned real ales the ones we tried were in excellent condition. The bar gets very busy the back room is a bit quieter. There is a nice secluded beer garden. The pub is regularly featured in the camra good beer guide. A visit is highly recommended.
Andrew N — Google review
Brilliant pub with a lovely garden and a fantastic range of well kept beers.
Stuart L — Google review
A great pub, not much else to say. Decent selection of craft beers on keg, plus standards and a great cask range. They also do the second best pork pie in Sheffield.
Jamie — Google review
Very good cask ale pub in Sheffield. Solid range of handpumps, simple but practical decor, and always a friendly face to the customer. Good atmosphere, too - a place for getting to know other punters. The only thing I found disturbing was the prominent advertising for Warsteiner beer. As a German, I can confirm this is one of the worst examples of industrial piss among German beers - kind of a German equivalent to Carling. Not to be missed on a pub crawl in the Kelham Island area.
Thomas ( — Google review
What can I say that hasn't been said already, well, this is quite simply one of the best real ale pubs in the world. I hadn't visited for 13 years or so and it was just as good as I remembered. All keg beers are kept in optimal condition, the range is great as it is clientele, I think if I lived in Sheffield this would be my honorary living room 😀
Christopher I — Google review
A wonderful traditional small pub/bar with terrific range of real ales including those from Abbeydale Pictish Verdant etc. Likely a different selection every week. Great beer, reasonable prices and friendly atmosphere - what more could you want?!

Nestled within the historic walls of an Edwardian train station, Sheffield Tap is a must-visit destination for beer enthusiasts and travelers alike. This charming bar has beautifully transformed the original first-class waiting lounge into a vibrant space featuring glazed tiles and plush leather banquettes. With its own mini-brewery on-site, Sheffield Tap offers an impressive selection of real ales brewed right there, alongside a delightful collaboration with a Czech brewery that brings three fresh Bernard lagers to the menu.
My train was delayed for an hour yesterday! I'd heard about the pub from a friend but not been in, so thoight id give it a go not expecting much. I loved the amazing selection of non alcoholic beers. I had a delicious lager. The decor is fab, classic pub vibes and the fact you're literally on the platform means when your train finally does arrive you're very unlikely to miss it. I only had a drink so cannot vouch for food.
Miriam S — Google review
I’ve never been so happy to miss my train. This is an incredible pub, with a wide range of cask beers, and its own brewery, all housed in a stunning building. Service is friendly and every room, branching off from the main bar reveals another gem. You must go into the furthest room, that houses the brewery and an incredible room.
Christopher L — Google review
When an opportunity presents itself, never walk away. This is especially true when the train drops you at the door of the Sheffield Tap. Beervana for all tastes with 11 hand pulls and 14 high fonts. Make sure you can visit here before you leave.
Alan G — Google review
Visited really early so the place was relatively quiet. They have a great selection of 'home brewed' beers that are brewed on site. The place has an interesting history as well and has a great vibe and ambience. Staff were friendly and happy to engage with an inquisitive tourist. A great place to have a beer or just visit to enjoy the ambience of the train station.
Dharm N — Google review
Great bar inside the station serving decent beers & other stuff in bottles. Would be much higher rated if they bothered to employ trade experienced staff, although it's still well worth a visit. Amazing interiors almost Vouge cover worth
Stevie B — Google review
Where better to go if arriving or departing by 🚂. The own brewed ales are as good as you’ll find. Do make sure you explore the whole pub and visit the brewing room.
Mark N — Google review
Often stop at this place if I’ve missed my train, I think a lot of people “miss their train” as it’s on platform 1 so very handy. Good range of ales. Lovely original decor that has been retained, looks amazing Free fast wifi

A very pleasant experience at 5.30pm on a Wednesday! Lovely range of beers, very helpful and friendly staff. Tonnes more seating now they've opened the back room too!

Pub
The Wheatsheaf, located in the charming village of Baslow, is a cozy lodging housed in an 18th-century coach house. It offers warm rooms and features a pub with a delightful beer garden. Situated just a short walk from Chatsworth House, this establishment boasts stunning views of its surroundings. The bar offers an extensive selection of beers, wines, and spirits, complemented by a tempting food menu.
An impromptu visit after work on a sunny afternoon. Easy to park and a lovely pub inside and out with a relaxed atmosphere. We sat in the beer garden which is beautiful, spacious, loads of tables to choose from with parasols. Super easy to order on the app. Really friendly attentive staff - the customer service was excellent from everyone we encountered, special mention to the chap who greeted us on arrival, explained the set up, and also tried his best to fend off a wasp that was trying to join us for dinner! The food was delicious, piping hot, and arrived very quickly. Many thanks for a lovely experience, I’m looking forward to returning!
Jo E — Google review
The place looks absolutely lovely, with a neat and well-maintained interior that creates a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance is warm and inviting, enhanced by soft lighting and tasteful decor. All the staff members are exceptionally friendly, attentive, and highly competent, ensuring a pleasant experience. Since our arrival, we were promptly greeted and offered drinks, demonstrating their attentive service. We ordered the signature pie, called ‘Best Ever Pub Pie,’ which truly lived up to its name — it was the most delicious, flavorful, and well-crafted pie I've ever tasted. I highly recommend this charming pub and its excellent restaurant to anyone looking for a delightful culinary experience.
Sandra J — Google review
Amazing food. One on the best meals I've had in a long time. Service and staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back next time we're staying nearby.
Annette M — Google review
Chaotic from the start. Despite our reservation, we were met with a rude manager who directed us to a tiny, cramped table by the entrance. We had our dog with us, but there was barely enough room for him. Luckily, the group next to us left, so we moved to their larger table. The manager then told us we only had the table until 4:15 PM, contradicting our email confirmation for 4:30 PM. We felt rushed and had barely any time to eat. Our waitress was friendly, but a conversation overheard at the bar between the manager and a staff member was concerning. The manager insisted they continue serving Pepsi even though it was confirmed to be flat, which showed a disregard for customers. The food came out suspiciously fast. I ordered a steak pie, and my wife had a Sunday roast. Everything was cold except for the pie and gravy. My wife's meat was thin and anaemic, and the small amount of vegetables were shrivelled and cold. The meal was clearly microwaved, not fresh, and cost £34. When our waitress checked on us 15-20 minutes later, she saw our plates were still half full. We voiced our dissatisfaction, and she apologized. The manager then offered us a choice of a free dessert or a discount. We chose the latter and were given a 20% discount. Overall, the pub failed to meet our expectations. The website gave the impression of a traditional country pub with home-cooked food, but it felt more like a grotty, dirty canteen. This was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. We had a much better experience at another country pub just outside Castleton on the way home. Avoid the Wheatsheaf like the plague.
Darren D — Google review
Overall good. Went two nights running. Shame they have stopped doing the famous pie which we wanted to order.
Louise B — Google review
We were a walk in on a busy Thursday night in September. We were warmly greeted by Izzy, and superbly looked after by her. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. I would certainly return next time I’m in the area.
Ian F — Google review
Superb pub, excellent service. Superb atmosphere & you can stay here if you so wish. Although you will have to book a room & also probably best to book a table as it gets very busy at times. Food is absolutely fantastic, superb choice & there is a vegetarian option if you so desire. Also a good choice of deserts if you wish to indulge in one. Suitable for families or couples. Or a small group of friends.
Bones G — Google review
Difficult to know what to say. This combines two meals over two dates in the same week. To be absolutely fair, the people in our group who had pies were delighted. The mixed grill was good. One of the steaks was OK. But the other steak was ordered medium and came out very well done, very tough, and half of it (not joking) was inedible fat and gristle in the middle of the steak. When we explained the problem to the manager, he told us there was nothing they can do about the quality of the steak as they can only serve what they get in the delivery. He deducted the cost of the meal, though. One meal, lovely table in the dining area with fabulous serving staff. The next meal, put in the dogs and owners area (no dog with us) and left to fend for ourselves. I think there needs to be an understanding that if a cut of meat is inedible, and that's all you have, you don't serve it, but explain that the person will have to choose something else. So, mixed review. You may be lucky, and there's nice staff.

The Cheshire Cheese Inn is a charming 16th-century inn located in the picturesque Derbyshire Peak District. With its open-plan bar area and cozy dining space, this historic establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. The inn serves home-cooked meals made with locally sourced ingredients, making it an ideal spot for visitors seeking authentic pub grub. Additionally, the inn provides comfortable accommodation with four simple rooms for those looking to extend their stay.
We had a lovely two night stay. I came to revisit my roots, and get a long walk in. Our room was beautiful, full of character and charm. There were biscuits which is also a win! Luxuriously big shower which eased the aches a bit. We ate here the second night, and came away wishing we'd done both nights. The menu was very good and hearty. Breakfast was great as well - tinkering with choices was encouraged! Everybody was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and to cap it all I got some very useful advice for a forthcoming trip to Kilimanjaro! I really couldn't recommend highly enough. Thank you for a much needed break!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was absolutely outstanding. Shaikta was exceptional — her attention to detail and warm hospitality truly made our stay special. She welcomed us personally, showed us to our room, explained the housekeeping details, and even booked us a table at the restaurant. We also really appreciated the room information, especially the history of the cottage — it was a lovely read and added so much character to the stay. Dinner was delicious, made with fresh, local ingredients and full of flavour. Breakfast the next morning was equally impressive — one of the best we’ve ever had (thank you Laura, it was amazing!). Would I recommend this place? Without a doubt! Whether you’re here for the beautiful walks or just want a peaceful getaway, this inn is a hidden gem. We’ll definitely be back. Please book and support this wonderful team — they truly deserve every success. Thank you

Lovely little pub. Staff were very accommodating and brought us our food promptly. We liked our dinner so much we booked Sunday lunch immediately. The Sunday special of stuffed giant Yorkshire pudding was plenty food for a hungry hiker.
Benjamin A — Google review
After an exhausting hike through the beautiful Hope Valley, we stopped at the Cheshire Cheese Inn — and what a perfect choice it was. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like long-time regulars returning home rather than visitors passing through. I ordered the beef with dauphine potatoes and caramelized carrots, all brought together with a rich, velvety gravy. It was pure comfort on a plate — the culinary equivalent of a warm hug after a day outdoors. The atmosphere is cozy, charming, and authentically English, the kind of place that invites you to linger by the fire with a pint and good company. I’d happily return to the Cheshire Cheese Inn for the food alone — but the warmth of the welcome makes it truly unforgettable. 🍽️🍻

What a lovely pub. Came yesterday for a meal with my parents. The food was lovely. It was nice to have good, honest food that had good portion size, tasty, and well cooked. The service was faultless. I've only drank here whilst walking in Hope but will definitely eat here again. Well done a d thank you.

Stopped for a quick drink after a walk, saw the food and booked for Sunday lunch. Well I have to say we were mighty impressed. The staff were amazing and just the right amount attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and the portion size was incredible. We would definitely come back when we are in the area.
Julie R — Google review
Friendly and kind service. I was welcomed as a solo visitor and had a few (excellent!) beers in front of the open fire. Mind your head on low beams, this gem from times past has the ancient timbers to prove its authentic history! (NB visit for drinks, no food tried and didn’t stay - but could overhear praise from those who did to the landlord)
Alex D — Google review
We have been eating at The Cheshire Cheese Inn for a number of years and in the past its always been really good. However it now seems to have gone down hill. The food is very average for the price. I ordered a steak which was very fatty and hadn't been seasoned. My wife's pie was ok but nothing special. Its a real shame it used to be really good. We also waited an hour after ordering before getting any food.

The Fat Cat is a Victorian pub located in Kelham Island, known for its wood panel bar and walled garden. It is acclaimed for serving real ales brewed on site by the independent Kelham Island Brewery. The pub's location, just a half-hour walk from Sheffield railway station or accessible by tram, makes it convenient for visitors to enjoy its cozy traditional Yorkshire atmosphere.
Made my first visit to this pub in February 2024 after hearing so much about it for many years. One of the main recommendations was based on the choice of beers but, being coeliac, I wasn't sure if it would be suitable. However, I was very pleased when I was offered a list of gluten free beers to choose from - albeit in bottles and not on draught (but maybe one day?). As they had a number of Wold Top beers, I decided to try the Marmalade Porter, which was nice and refreshing even on a damp and overcast day. Didn't have any food while we were there but having heard about the gluten free options since, I would like to try it on another visit. It's a lovely old-fashioned pub with friendly staff and a place that was worthy of its recommendation so I would like to pass on the recommendation.

Second best pub in Sheffield after Shakespeare's for me. Attractive and well-preserved interiors and a relaxed atmosphere.
Peter M — Google review
The Fat Cat is an unspoiled traditional two roomed pub. There is a wide selection of beers lager and cider including egiht cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The cask ales we sampled were in excellent condition. It's not a food pub but they sell the best pork pies i have tasted. There is a very nice large sheltered beer garden with a covered area. The pub is regularly featured in the camra good beer guide a visit is highly recommended.
Andrew N — Google review
Excellent pub with large selection of local beers, including from the brewery next door. Great value roasts served on Sundays and local pork pies to buy at the bar. What not to like. Nice garden.
Roger S — Google review
Nice traditional pub in Kelham with an excellent range of (mostly local) keg beers and a selection of pork pies and sausage rolls for food. However, as it was a warm day, my wife had an Italian lager and I opted for a very refreshing Schneider Weiße beer. Hope to return soon.

Great real ale pub and nice out door beer garden
Simon K — Google review
The Fat Cat has a long and distinguished history as a cask ale pub. And it is indeed THE best cask ale pub in Sheffield! Great staff, great selection of beers, great atmosphere, and a nice beer garden to the rear. It doesn't look like much from outside (or indeed inside), but the atmosphere is just infectious and invites communication among the punters. Of course, pub food and snacks are available, too. Carry on the good work! If you're doing a pub crawl in the Kelham Island area - and you should - don't miss out on this great establishment!
Thomas ( — Google review
The staff are absolutely lovely. We were in late and they made sure we had a safe way home. They also were just a good crack to talk to. There was a young lad begond tbe bar on a Sunday evening and he was so friendly, recommended us some good ciders and spirits. It's more of a pub than bar but would definitely recommend to anyone in the kelhem island area

Rutland Arms is a traditional pub with a classic dark wood-panelled interior, offering a wide selection of real ale and comfortable seating including sofas. The establishment also features a walled beer garden for patrons to enjoy. Located in Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter, the pub boasts vintage architecture filled with historical elements and quirky decorations such as pump clips, protest placards, and street art by Phlegm.
Do not be fooled and anticipate simple ‘pub food’. There is some brilliant gourmet stuff coming out of the kitchens here. The team at the bar are always super friendly and talkative and why not when the place is such a good vibe. The ru-tine chips are the pub’s take on poutine and boy is it good. Priced fairly for a chunky portion oozing with saucy flavour. You’d be a fool to ignore the food on offer here and the variety of drinks you can try too.

Don't let the front end of this place fool you. We are so happy to accidentally stumble into this little gem! The food is very high end, very affordable and very friendly staff! The atmosphere has a fun vibe and gets quite busy. (Very popular with the locals.) I highly recommend this place! Will return again from Canada.

One of the best pubs in Sheffield. Visiting this place whenever visit Sheffield and after many visits, time to leave my review. Staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive, service is good and quick. The drinks they are offering is top selection. Cask and specially keg beers are the great choice. Good variety from the best breweries of UK. Food is good too and the atmosphere is super cool. Whenever i go there, it’s full packed., doesn’t matter about weather or season, crowd never goes down. So if your beer lover and visiting Sheffield, then must try Rutland. They will never disappoint you.

Fantastic pub, huge choice of quality beer and the best burger and chips I’ve had, proper pub.
Mark — Google review
I have spent decades drinking in Sheffield and have walked past this pub many times and have been immediately turned off by its external experience and never went inside. This is your opportunity to learn from my mistake and avoid overlooking a gem of a pub with a great welcoming atmosphere, diverse clientele and staff and a multitude of signs and messages posted all around that will raise a smile or an eyebrow. I haven’t yet eaten here but seeing other people’s food brought out encourages me to revisit to do exactly that

There’s always an eclectic range of cask & craft at what must be Sheffield’s premier pub. Close to the 🚂 station, there’s something for everyone.

One of the best if not the greatest real ale pubs in Sheffield. I have had some great times in the Rutland Arms with some of the Rotherham and Sheffield Camra drinking mates. The food is excellent and well deserved and it fills a mighty hole up when you need filling from being hungry. Alas I don't get the chance to visit now as I now live 450 miles away but I do miss my Friday and Saturdays with the lads.

Triple Point Brewery is a city centre bar and brewery that serves up beer made on-site. The brewery has an excellent beer menu with something for every taste, including a great burger.
Once upon a time, this place was The Sentinel; I loved that pub and its beer very much. I was heartbroken when it closed and wasn't too thrilled by Triple Point when they first appeared. There wasn't much there, and the beer didn't compare. However, a few years down the line and I have taken myself back to this place. And I'm so glad that I did! I already knew they were producing good beer as I had purchased it from various places in Sheffield but they have a good variety of options on the bar and the gentleman who served me gave great advice on what to select. I also got food. This came out very quickly as I was the only patron there on a Tuesday lunchtime. It tasted amazing! I had Bordain's Best Butty. It was a bit smaller than I pictured but packed with flavour. Fresh foccacia, crispy mortadella, yummy mayo and mustard with some cheese to round it out. I can also say that the seating was comfy. Plenty of different choices of where to sit as well - different types of seating available. I will definitely be coming again.

Well worth a visit. Popular place on a Friday night with the millennium mob. I enjoyed the beers sampling 3 of the Triple Point beverages - each one ever so slightly different, almost to the point of being indistinguishable which is my only gripe. I would come back as I’m pretty sure there’s one that’s very different and the burgers were decent last time I came here.

My favourite place in Sheffield, Can't beat that hallas and brisket burger!! All staff are great and walk that extra mile to help customers apart from the lady with short green hair, very rude, ordered food and she brought it when asked about cutlery she said go and get it your self opposite the till while other staff member done the opposite.

Great place to just chill out with a big beer garden with plenty of drinks to choose from. The burgers were really good and would definitely come back 👍

The decor is really nice and the staff and warm and welcoming, decent place for food and the beer is definitely a winner. There’s not a huge selection of food but the sharing plates and burgers are quite decent. The portions are a little smaller than other places. The chips are pretty 👍 . Would be nice if they had at least one option for a dessert.

Only recently I’ve discovered the lunch menu! Absolutely amazing ! Had the brisket sandwich (think that’s what it was called on the menu) very filling , will definitely be back to try something else!

Great selection of beers - whether you like lager, IPA or something else - there is always a good beer to try. Music is decent, ample seating available, both inside and out. I went too late to try the food from the Twisted burger, so the review is for the bar only.

Haddon Hall is a stately home located in the Peak District National Park, surrounded by several towns and villages of historical interest. The area includes Bakewell, known for its medieval market town and famous Bakewell puddings, as well as other villages like Castleton with its caverns and Peveril Castle. The guidebook for the Peak District covers over 150 locations including Haddon Hall, offering photography tips and directions to picturesque spots such as country estates and limestone dales.
Marvelous collection of historical buildings in a beautiful landscape location. Took advantage of the Gardener's World 2 for 1 admission offer tickets. Thoroughly enjoyed the guided talks in different rooms. A later lunch was excellent value for quality food and drinks. Well worth visiting again.

Such a fun visit. Loved seeing the place where so many films have been set, and learning about the castle's true history. Well-worth the visit; make sure to go outside and walk around the peaceful gardens.

Really interesting place with lots to explore..! I went to see the current exhibition about magic and superstition its very cool! Beautiful gardens and stunning scenery too. Lots of uneven floors and steps so not great for people with mobility issues and I wouldn't fancy taking a pram..parking is charged extra so be prepared for that. Highly recommend 👌

A beautifully renovated medieval manor house hosting a delightfully styled exhibition about Elizabethan connections to magic and mature, informed, educating and entertaining. The beautifully designed gardens are a pleasure to walk around and the host volunteers are friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely restaurant on site, best to book in advance as it's popular. A experience, highly recommended

Great place, we visited during the Magic exhibition and thought it was really well designed in both exhibition text and visually - it was stunning to see in the Hall. Guides were good- especially Chris M who showed us all of the scorch marks and was really informative. The café is small but the food was great. On our way out we were looking forward to the gift shop but found this disappointing, nothing about or related to the Hall or the exhibition. Though it's good to work with what I assume are local small businesses, a core retail offer remaining would have been appreciated as we aren't local so won't be back. The lady running the admissions desk kindly returned after closing so that we could at least buy the exhibition guide. Parking was easy with an attendant and payment was taken on entry as the exit barrier was faulty.

Amazingly well preserved medieval hall. If you visit on Mondays there are free guided tours, our guide was both fun and informative. Would definitely recommend the restaurant as well, great home made food at a reasonable price.
James M — Google review
It's a smallish medieval country house which is an independent business compared to those often operated by the National Trust. It's quite interesting architecturally but there's not a whole lot to see yet admission prices are quite high. We went whilst they had a theme on Magic and Superstition which was reasonably interesting if quite condensed. The cafe wasn't bad with a decent selection of food and drink offerings Make sure you are steady on your feet as there are significant amounts of uneven floors and stairs

24th September 2025 about 2pm. Firstly, there is a car park across the busy A6 road which is 50mph and really ought to be 40mph to enable pedestrians to cross more easily and more safely. The car park is £4 regardless of how long you stay at the hall. We witnessed an older person trying to exit, who didn't park close enough to the card scanner, had to get out of their car but failed to exit before the barrier came down. That happened 3 times! It's not that the barrier doesn't stay up long enough, it was just that he was older and slower and stopped too far away. The hall is wonderful and a real treasure that is preserved and has hardly been renovated. A very magical place with an interesting history. There are a lot of uneven surfaces so watch your footing. We didn't go in the restaurant as it was quite late. Overall well worth a visit. I highly recommend it. 25th September 2025, as we only got a short visit and felt we loved it and perhaps missed something we went back the next day. It really is a peaceful, magical place and has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland feel to the garden. Perhaps it was all the roses 😁 some of which were red... It was literally buzzing with life and you can look down to Dorothy's bridge which is a beautiful little bridge. There's a bit of a romantic story to go along with the bridge too. We saw a Dipper bird amongst the rocks in the shallow water to.

Top place! Visited on a Friday lunchtime,no reservation was needed. A massive beer range both craft and cask, super friendly staff. The food on the lunch menu was very tasty and really good value. Perfect mix of quality food and quality beer. I would love to visit and try the full menu.

Had a great time at the Tap House while visiting Buxton. We stopped by for lunch and went with a couple of sharing plates. Food was great and the variety of beers is amazing. Decided to try the Deepdale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Staff are also super kind and welcoming. Would definitely come back if we visit the region again.

We were in the Peak District for the bank holiday weekend travelling down from Newcastle. Booked for Sunday lunch as recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! One of the best Sunday lunches we’ve ever had! All amazing! The ales are fab as well, my husband loved them and as the designated driver the fact that they had a low alco ale available was brilliant and very good! If you do decide to try this I’d recommend booking a table.

Visited this place by chance and I liked it. You will find a good selection of beer and you can taste them. Place has a good atmosphere and staff is really friendly. The food was good, burger very tasty. There is no parking lot, it with some luck you may be able to park your car in front where you will find few marked areas. It is far from where I live, otherwise for sure I would be back.

We had such a lovely evening here last night! The food was absolutely delicious — we started with the arancini which were perfectly crispy and full of flavour. For mains, we had the stacked burger and the lasagne — both were amazing, cooked to perfection and full of taste. The atmosphere was fantastic too, with brilliant live music that really added to the experience. Couldn’t fault a thing. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

Underwhelming food, below par service. Not suitable for big groups. We booked this place as a large group, and from the second we arrived we felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. It seemed they were too busy for us. We had to pre order food, however it was a hassle making amendments to the food 8 out of 10 us got the burger and every single one of us complained about the bacon- it came out virtually raw- we asked for crispier bacon and to be fair to the waitress she did bring some back. However when I mentioned this when paying just as some constructive critism, I was told by the waitress ‘ the chefs do like to do the bacon slightly lighter than I like’ I said the bacon is raw- there’s no 2 questions about it Some ordered the beef cheek and pancetta pie- it looked very nice on the plate but lacked taste. I feel bad writing this review as it had great previous reviews hence why we booked it, however it was very underwhelming

Lovely place, good selection of beers. I had the sirloin steak which was very well cooked - although I asked for medium rare and it was more of a medium - but the flavour and sear was so nice I didn’t really mind. Had the arancini for starters which was also really nice. Big portions for the mains. A bit noisy inside but it was full.

The Bulls Head is a charming pub located in the traditional Peak District village of Monyash. Established since medieval times, it offers a warm and friendly atmosphere with spacious bars, dining rooms, and a sizable garden. The pub serves classic pub grub and real ales while providing entertainment such as a pool table and a village play park for children. With its historic ambiance and welcoming staff, The Bulls Head is an excellent choice for visitors looking to experience the finest food and drink in the area.
A busy pub in the middle of Monyash, I recommend booking especially on a Friday or Saturday evening. Great food, friendly staff. I had the vegan curry with rice and chips which was very mild, I would prefer it to be a bit more spicy but it did say it was mild on the menu. My partner had vegetarian lasagne and although nice say it lacked flavour. Obviously our taste buds prefer more spiced and seasoned food.

Wonderful welcoming pub with amazing food! Stayed on the campsite down the road and decided to call in for a drink and something to eat. The staff were all lovely and welcoming and you felt at home. Good choice of drinks with well known brands and local specialties, the food was absolutely amazing! Lots of info on the menu with local suppliers named, so you know it’s in season and fresh! We had food off the specials board and there’s also a children’s menu, the portions were more than generous and absolutely delicious! Plenty of parking space, outdoor seating and a children’s play area along with a pool table. One of the nicest pubs I’ve been to!

Fantastic pub in the middle of Monyash, Derbyshire. Lots of seating inside and some outside. Great menu. I had the ploughman's for lunch and it was one of the best I've ever had. It had a bit of everything on it with 3 types of cheese, blue, cheddar & red Leicester with a warm baguette. The staff are really friendly and helpful.

Popped in for lunch on a Friday whilst strolling along the Limestone Way. The pub was busy but staff found us a table. We ordered the Barnsley Chop in mint, and the Sizzling Pork Fillet in pepper sauce. The food was fabulous, hot, well presented and with hot fluffy chips. The standout for me was the gravy for the chop, full of veg and meat, a meal in itself. Beer was good also. I would suggest booking to avoid disappointment.

Spacious pub with both indoor and outdoor seating. Well maintained premises with amazing staff. Tried a few of the dishes and they were splendid. The portions were very filling too. Highlight is the beer garden and there is also a play area for kids making it ideal for families. Some parking available at the pub and also on the roads near by. A pool table is also there if you fancy a game. Overall, great pub atmosphere.

A really nice Pub that serves decent food, close by the Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. We visited on Thursday evening, just about making the cut-off for food (8.30pm..?). All the table inside were full, but there is lots off nice seating outside, either on Patio Area (at the side of the Pub) or round the back in the large Beer Garden 👍 The Menu has a good selection of options, having ordered at the Bar, the food was brought out after only a short delay, which was very good 👍 The food was really nice, however I knocked 1 star off as it might taste great, but the presentation left a lot to be desired 🫤 I had the Chicken Fillet in White Wine Sauce which just looked like it had been 'slopped' onto some 'random' Plate 👎 Even with the small negative with the food, it's still well worth a visit 👍

2nd visit to the area and this pub last night and once again can't fault it. Service is absolutely fantastic, greeted warmly, our dog was fussed over and welcomed, brought a water bowl. Really nice pub. Friendly service and I really liked the menu. Good vegetarian options; I got the garden burger that cost £17.50 and swapped the fries for the chips

This is the first pub I have visited that has a parking space designated for a tractor! Historic old pub situated on a busy junction for various places of interest in the Peak District. I have visited several times over the years and today I enjoyed the vegan chicken roast dinner. The meat eaters chose the lamb roast dinners and commented that the meat portions were generous - all roast dinners came with a good variety of vegetables. My husband went for the cod loin with gnocchi and children both opted for the pizza, chips and beans from the kids menu. We were all too full for pudding. Friendly and attentive service.

Driven by this place many times! Called in this time as was camping up the road at South View campsite... Food was absolutely lovely! Had a sandwich, onion rings and chips, it was all cooked perfectly. Interior of pub was also very nice, comfy informal, smart and traditional.. Can't wait to get back in there in winter when the burners are on! Beer selection was okay as well..with a few different beers available.. Hopefully there'll be some stouts on in winter! Overall, great place that's worth a visit 👍🏻

The best pub in all the Peak District Honestly, the food is so good, and the portions massive. Really recommend it It took a minute for the dinner to come, but boy it was worth it, they were taking good care of the food. We had chicken cordon bleu and a plate of a homemade pork sausage with haggies that I don’t remember the name of. Both were amazing. The chicken comes with a yummy mushroom sauce with perfectly cooked vegetables, not overdone or too raw. The inside of the chicken was a delight The homemade sausage was just something special and the gravy is one of the best we had in a long time Both dishes came with a portion of mashed potatoes mixed with mustard seeds that was so special (and so much of it) The atmosphere is really friendly, as the staff. They also have an interesting variety of beers, not the typical ones but interesting and nice alternatives The only bad part is that we finished so full that could not try a dessert

After looking for somewhere different to meet for lunch myself and friends visited this lovely pub. A warm welcome and good service was provided. I ordered Fish and chips with a salad which they happily accommodated. The batter was thin and crispy the fish white and thick. Lovely chunky chips and fresh salad with a tasty dressing. It was the best fish I've had in a long time, good quality and cooked perfectly. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino after which was lovely hot and creamy. The accessible toilet was large and clean with a higher seat if you need it. Accessibility wise the front steps have no ramp so I'm not sure if they have a different entrance with more level access. The car park is up a hill behind the pub with some parking out front which can be very busy. I was not in my chair for this visit. For me it was slightly difficult to access but once inside easy to get around and Very much worth the effort. 5 stars for the food and service.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Absolutely Fantastic! We popped into The Remarkable Hare in Matlock for a bite to eat before starting the journey home after a lovely couple of days away — and we’re so glad we did! We both ordered a roast dinner; my girlfriend had the gammon ham, and I went for the roast beef. Each came with a perfectly crisp Yorkshire pudding, beautifully roasted vegetables, and all the trimmings. Honestly, these were probably the most amazing roast dinners we’ve ever had — cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. To drink, my girlfriend enjoyed two glasses of wine, and I had a pint of Neck Oil, which was perfectly poured. Adding to the atmosphere was a fantastic live performer playing guitar in the corner — a brilliant touch that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Warm, welcoming, and full of charm — The Remarkable Hare really lives up to its name. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Matlock!

Cute setting and they're definitely making an effort towards a gastropub. Very generous portions but the food was a bit hit and miss. The pork tenderloin was superb and we were recommended the disco fries so we tried that but weren't too impressed. We had the Korean fried chicken disco fries and I honestly have never had fried chicken with such thick hard batter. The batter was a bit unpleasant and almost as much as the chicken itself. The sauce was also a bit too sweet and unbalanced in flavour profile. It was harnished with deep fried kale which was just inedible, like trying to chew through plastic. Similar for the camembert bites, the breading was just too thick and hard and made it difficult to enjoy the dish. That said the other dishes were good and the service was excellent. We would go again to try different items.

The Bridge Inn in Calver is a charming rustic-style pub that offers a well-rounded menu with classic English bar eats and contemporary twists. What sets this place apart is its dog-friendly policy, allowing patrons to enjoy their meals while looking after their canine companions. Whether you prefer a formal restaurant setting or a classic pub atmosphere, the options are plentiful. The highlight of this inn is its beautiful beer garden, which sits gracefully on the River Derwent, providing a picturesque backdrop for dining.
Absolutely loved our evening here. The staff were friendly and helpful and brought a highchair to us for our baby. It's really kid friendly and the food was top notch and absolutely gorgeous. I'd say better than some high end restaurants. You've definitely got a returning customer after tonight. Thank you so much to all the staff. We had a Saturday afternoon drive out to this little gem of a place. Recently taken over, it’s a beautifully decorated and cosy pub. Very friendly and very welcoming staff. The vision for this pub is nothing short of excellent, keeping it nice and traditional and the decoration is on point. It welcomes all people local and from afar, it’s also dog friendly. There’s a beautiful riverside beer garden with children’s play frame to keep them entertained too. If you want a friendly pub with a lovely atmosphere, this is the place to go. The knowledgeable guides are passionate about their craft and provide insightful descriptions of the different stages and the site's history. In addition to whisky, the distillery also offers a range of gins and cask-aged rum for visitors to sample and purchase.
Visited The Wireworks today for a whisky tour, wow. I cannot recommend enough the tour guide/distiller Sarah was brilliant, very knowledgeable, approachable and told the story of the wire works and the process of whisky, gin & rum distillation in a very engaging manor. They have gained a very loyal follower!

We had an amazing experience at White Peak Distillery on the whiskey tour led by Tom. He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the craft - you could ask him anything, and he had a smart, insightful answer ready. The tour itself was fascinating, taking us through the whole process with plenty of interesting stories along the way. And of course, the whiskey was excellent - smooth, rich, and full of character. Would highly recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in whiskey or just looking for a great day out!

What a hidden gem. If you are even vaguely interested in the whisky making (or even just drinking) process then would recommend a visit. Thanks to Tom and the other staff members for making the last tour of this years whisky holiday the best.

This tour felt somehow different to the usual distillery experience, I guess because it was led by someone who was passionate and knowledgeable about White Peak and whisky. But maybe it was more because Tom felt like part of the fabric of the place, and he wanted to get people and the right whisky together.

Me and my father in law took part in the distillery tour and sample tasting. What a fantastic distillery with great products and a well run operation. Our tour guide was very informative and happy to answer all questions, I definitely recommend the tour to sample some fantastic whiskeys and broaden your distillery knowledge.

Our train there was cancelled and after calling they happily moved our booking to the 2pm tour. Dave who took our tour was knowledgeable, informative, amusing and an engaging guide. During the tasting session he took questions and gave good answers. Would I recommend the tour? Yes. Do you need to be "into whisky"? No. If you have a bottle of their whisky they will refill and give a discount too. Really lovely area its in. Walkable from the local Ambergate station

Although Ive visited rum distilleries in Barbados, this is my first distillery tour in the UK. I can’t believe this is literally on my door step, which definitely influenced in my decision in visiting with my wife & friends. We decided to go for the distillery tour, booking in advance which is recommended. On the day of the tour, we arrived in the car park & walked into the shop. We were greeted by staff members who confirmed our booking & asked us to hang about in the shop & tasting room. I took the opportunity to take a toilet break, before the tour kicked off. We were greeted by our tour guide who gave us the welcome & safety briefing, before taking us to where the copper stills stood in all their glory, we went up the stairs to see some whisky in the making at various stages. From this view point we were able to see just how big the whole operation is! After this we then went past the label making room, & into the cask stores. We then went back & finished our tour in the tasting room, followed by sampling gin, rum & whisky, my favourites being the whisky & rum. Before leaving we then had a good look in the shop, however decided not to purchase anything as i’ll be purchasing a bottle from March 2022 on the internet. I have however signed up to the emailing service to keep an eye on the releases. Everything is pretty accessible ♿️ for wheelchair users, other than going up to the stills. Maybe in the future, I’ll decide to come back for the Whisky tour or Warehouse tour?

Brilliant Distillery Tour by our excellent guide, Dave. Both him and the rest of the staff were really friendly, always smiling when they walked past which is always pleasant to see. The girl in the distillery shop (so sorry I didn't get your name!) was also pleasant and welcoming, and served up some brilliant coffee, which was much needed as I drove from Manchester to attend the 11:00am tour. Dave went into great detail during the tour, and this being my 9th tour of a whisky distillery, I have to say I still learnt a few things that weren't covered by other distilleries on their tours, which was quite fascinating. Dave spoke about the different enzymes used during the whisky making process, and even gave us the names of them, as well as the different yeast strains, and explained their function as part of the process. I really enjoyed how thorough the tour was, and how Dave seemed genuinely passionate about the process of crafting each of their spirits. He was also very patient, and always happy to answer the many questions we had as a group throughout. The tasting at the end was very fun too, with Dave talking through each of the spirits in more detail, and recommended mixers which go well with their Gin and Rum. The distillery itself is also a very interesting place, with plenty of history which was briefly touched upon by Dave at the beginning of the tour also. After the tour, I had a good walk around the surrounding area and woodlands, which were stunning at this time of the year, and I'd highly recommend it just to get a feel for the area, as the distillery itself only occupies around 10% of the entire Wire Works site, as explained by Dave. Do bear in mind there are also other businesses on the site too, occupying other buildings, so there are certain areas which are off limits. Dave explained they'll likely introduce a hand filled bottling that you fill yourself, along with a possible Distillery Exclusive bottling in the near future. Overall I was very impressed with the experience, and will definitely be back to see what direction this new distillery is headed. Thanks again to all those at White Peak Distillery for making my trip to the distillery a worthwhile experience.

The Thorn Tree Inn is a charming and award-winning small traditional pub located in Matlock, offering stunning views of the Derwent Valley. The warm and friendly atmosphere, along with the outstanding range of real ales including TTs Landlord, makes it a go-to local spot for both visitors and locals alike. The inn also features heated outdoor canopy, welcomes dogs, hosts darts teams, and serves homemade food at certain times.
Decided to visit this pub after arriving in Matlock on the train. Long climb up a very steep hill which took about 20 minutes walking. It was worth it. Lovely little pub with two bar rooms, and outdoor seating with fantastic views over Matlock, and out to Riber Castle. Service was welcoming and efficient, and the beer was well kept - a nice pint of Old Trip by Hardy and Hanson, along with a substantial chip butty.

Amazing views make the journey up the hill to the Thorn Tree worth it. Surprisingly small but beautiful interior, and the outside seating is perfect to take in the view. It is currently a Greeneking pub and while they have several guests on, the real ale choice is .... a bit regional. External pristine quaint toilets.

With its relaxed atmosphere and inviting garden tables, it’s the perfect spot for both casual drinks and hearty meals. Renowned for its eclectic decor that reflects its rich history, this establishment has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Great beer bar, old pub modernized, menu looks good but I didn't try it. Nice back yard, nice mix of ages, locals and students, good beer albeit not super traditional. Bit of a local gem

🍺We always have a great time at The Beer Engine 🤩 They have a rotating selection of cask and keg beers, so there's always something new to try. We love a fruity sour in particular and they always have something great on. 🍲But the beer isn't the only star of the show - their global tapas is the perfect food to compliment a few beers! We shared a bunch of plates between friends, and everything was so flavorful and delicious. 🤤 My favorites were the Korean chicken and the delicious halloumi. The loaded fries are delicious too and a huge portion that's great to share. There's a bit of an Asian influence on most of the food due to their link with sister bars @tramshedbar and @theoldworkshopkelham host @dumplingcitysheff This essentially, is Dumpling City's tapas offering, and they smash it ! ✨The Beer Engine has a really laid-back vibe, and the staff are super friendly. They also have a great beer garden, which is perfect for enjoying a drink on a sunny day. ☀️ For more local reviews follow @sheaf_foodies on Instagram

I’ve heard good things about the roast at The Beer Engine so it’s been on my list a while to try. There is only one option available, it’s one choice for non vegan too, this time it was a Wellington with a lentil filling. Good selection of veg including cauliflower cheese. No Yorkshire puddings for the vegan dinners. Menu is a little confusing and it would be better to have a vegan roast option, rather than the vegan and vegetarian being listed together. They are looking into this however. They are happy to serve half portions if the full portion is too much. My friend did this and was able to try one of the puddings, the sticky toffee, and she really enjoyed this. 3 1/2 stars ⭐️ Would like to see a clearer menu and it would be good to have at least another roast choice on the menu too. Car parking available next to the pub which is paid for.

Amazing selection of craft beer, some regular, some specials. All the beers go well with the pub tapas style food which is reasonably priced and provides tasty, good sized portions. The staff are friendly, helpful and happy to help with suggestions.

Love the guy behind the bar. Very friendly and cheering person. Best service and chilled atmosphere.its a cafe bar with a rustic feel. Good for live music at the weekends. Pool table for some extra fun with friends. Been there just for a drink and ended up at 6 because the craft beer variety was very nice. You can say good collection if not the best one. Worth to try if you are in town.

Decent coffee, nice atmosphere inside - outdoor seating as well which is nice if the suns out. Didn’t eat - but food did look pretty good and well priced, as did the cocktail menu - will have to pop back another time.

Nipped in for a few drinks and snacks. Great ale and choices of cocktails which was really yummy. Had some cheesy chips and pork pie, 10/10! Little wait on the food but it was very busy in there. Fun decor. Really like it here!

Ok, so we continue our journey. The wine bar has left much to be desired so you cross the road. You’ve heard rumours they’ve got the vocation on draught. The rumours are confirmed and the pint is delicious. You get a side of cheesy chips and really settle in. Half of the pint is down and you realise, oh, I need a wee. You pootle on over to the ladies toilets. You arrive; you’re greeted with the most overwhelming stench of piss. Hmmm, no thanks. Nevertheless you still need to empty your bladder so you accept your fate. You sit down, oh, no lock on the door. One unsettling minute later, you’ve emptied your bladder and you’re back to drink your vocation; hoping it’s enough to blur your bathroom experience.
Darcie — Google review
Nice variety of beer that changes. Cask and keg lines of craft beer but also keg lines of more commercial beer that you find in most pubs. Nice section of snacks. The only thing i would say is that it looks like it needs a bit of TLC like the ladies bathroom the dryer didn't work and trying to close the door to the loo was difficult amd the TV showing the beer that previously worked isn't now and trying to see the lines of beer was difficult. However the staff were helpful in going through what they had on. But these things are minor the beer was great and the atmosphere was welcoming.

Visited with my partner and 2 dogs. Went on a nice walk around the brewery. And then stopped for a drink before going home. 1 of my dogs is reactive but has come on leaps and bounds as I have put alot of training into him. I chose to walk round there as I knew it was a case of all dogs should be on leads due to live stock etc. However while sitting having a drink, a Labrador and Border Collie type dog came running off lead around him. They belonged to who I assumed lived there as they was standing chatting behind a gate of the brewery. It triggered my dog and ruined it. Personally I think it's rude. Don't ask people to have dogs on lead for live stock when you can't adhere to your own requests. Just because my dog is reactive doesn't mean he can't go to places. It takes a lot of training to help a dogs confidence. Be considerate, because I'm sure you would of had alot to say if my dog was off lead around live stock or got hold of your dog. Don't be that "oh it's ok, he/she friendly" type of person. Response to reply: My dog was absolutely fine until the dogs came right up to my dog. I wouldn't call them well trained if they are going up to other dogs while off lead and I wouldn't call the owners well trained either if they are not even taking any notice of what their dogs are doing. I think it's pretty obvious multiple people visit with their dogs and it doesn't hurt to either keep your dogs on a lead or behind the gate if they are not leashed.

Magic Rock Tap in Holmfirth is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to enjoy a vibrant atmosphere paired with delicious drinks and tasty street food. Housed in an impressive Victorian building dating back to 1844, the venue boasts stunning architecture that captivates visitors from the moment they arrive. While the lively downstairs area buzzes with energy, those seeking a more relaxed experience can head upstairs, where the ambiance is laid-back and less crowded—though this space isn't always open.

Lovely set up, friendly and helpful staff, quick table service. Plenty of spacing. Free WiFi. Good quality beer at reasonable prices. Soft drinks available and reasonable too. We attended the pre-launch of the Hangover Club, starting next weekend - American style brunch. The food was amazing and the choice is really good. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is we were about to ask if our order was ok because we had been waiting 45 minutes and couples that had sat down after us had been served their food, then the food came out. So would be keen to see how the service/quickly the food comes when the menu launches fully. The breakfast muffin was the best I’ve ever had.

The menu offers modern dishes like chicken and tarragon roulade and duo of lamb, as well as classic pub favorites. Absolutely loved going here. It has a good selection of draft lagers and beers, a wide variety of spirits. It was made even better when a band start playing live music. Overall a fantastic atmosphere and friendly place. I would highly recommend this pub.

Northern Monk Refectory MCR is a charming wood-paneled bar located in a listed building, offering a delightful selection of pub grub, craft beer on tap, ales, and wine. Situated in the former Kosmonaut unit on Tariff Street, this outpost of the popular Leeds brewery boasts an impressive array of beverages including 16 keg lines, four cask lines, three draft cocktails, and classic mixed cocktails.
Love northern monk , a great bar offering a wide range of craft beers , lagers and stouts and also has Cardinal Rule providing fantastic food! I opted for a pint of their IPA Faith, which is a superb beer and ordered a Hot Honey chicken sandwich served in a biscuit with Cajun spiced fries. It absolutely works on every level and is sumptuously delicious.
John B — Google review
We’ve been here a few times and my partner loves the beer. The food we had last week was absolutely amazing by cardinal rules! Me & my partner and my daughter all really enjoyed the food. Beer is always good. Only downside is the toilets that are gender neutral which is fine but I don’t like going to the toilet and I try not to when I’m there. It doesn’t put me off going either as it is a decent place. The food isn’t expensive either and big portions.

My sort of place, great beer selection in a lovely old building! The fried chicken was also very tasty

Great location. Friendly helpful staff. And great range of drinks. The stout are worth the trip. Vusit on the tight days for cardinal rules food. Only place in town with the menu options. Highly recommend.

We found out this place by accident and we loved it. It was our first time eating a burger with American biscuits. It was very tasty. I'd highly recommend to try and come back.

One of my favourites in Manchester. Great range of beer on tap. Friendly fun staff. Clean and tidy, with clean toilets (always a plus). Friendly people come here and never witnessed any nonsense. Great to come for after work drinks. With Cardinal Rule here serving American Chicken biscuit sandwiches for food (amongst other chicken items), food is sorted. Overall 10/10

A super relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of craft beers both on tap and cans in their fridge. The service was quick and friendly. They also did a great job of filling my wife's glasses of prosecco right to the brim...extra points.

Such a great place and Julia on the bar makes it so much better, she knows so much about all the beers and was so welcoming, she spent time to talk to us about beers we liked and recommend great options. The recommendations were spot on and the beer is fantastic.

Cat & Fiddle, located in the middle of the hills, is a 17th-century stone building that has been transformed into a distillery offering tours and tastings. Situated at an ideal height above sea level for whisky production, this remote pub was saved through a successful Crowdfunder bid. The owners also run Forest Gin in the Macclesfield hills and Buxton Pavilion.
We were passing and wanted to check out the very much renovated cat and fiddle pub to distillery! Omg we were blown away. It's so beautiful 😍 relaxing, lovely and just lush. My partner had a whiskey which he has fallen for and I had a very very delicious gooseberry gin and tonic. The man on the bar (9th may 2025) was absolutely lovely and friendly and knowledgeable about the whiskey. And very hospitable. Absolutely lovely. Can't wait you book a tour!!!!
Bekki H — Google review
I've been coming to the Cat & Fiddle for over 50 years, it's no longer a traditional pub but it's still a wonderful place to visit. Spotlessly clean throughout, beautiful decor & tasteful displays. No food other than premium nibbles, however I found this made for a much more relaxing & calm atmosphere. We got a table by the fire & enjoyed a hot chocolate. It's a premium experience & a great place to come to relax & chat.

What a gem of a distillery. Top of the hill with great views. Fantastic cocktails, lovely ‘weasel’ staff members. Luckily got to meat the owner too, who was a delightful chap who clearly had a passion for all things whisky! Thoroughly recommend a visit, even just for a cheeky stop and a drink.
Callum O — Google review
Brilliant spot! Walked up from Buxton with our two labs, Simba and Nelly, and they were treated like VIPs with endless water and fuss. I had a couple of ice-cold Helles lagers and a signature whisky (excellent), while my wife loved the gin mixers. The place doesn’t serve food (just snacks), but that’s no problem with the quality of drinks. We booked with a deposit, though it was quiet at 12 – by 2pm it was lively and buzzing. Great shop on-site selling their own gins, whiskies and glassware. They also run distillery tours and a monthly cocktail night which we’ll be back for. Special mention to the two lads behind the bar – friendly, knowledgeable and really attentive. Top-notch experience all round! 🍻🐾

Lovely tour from Sophia. Very informative and super friendly. All of our questions answred. Great tasting too. As designated driver, I even got my tastings to take home. Would highly recommend a visit. Our favourite tipple was the smoked whisky and the earl grey infused gin.

Naomi and our fellow guests were incredibly tolerant of our slide into drunkenness. Fab, informative and lots of gin…. A voucher at the end was a sweetener!! Recommend the tours all day ❤️🖤

What a great experience! I was surprised with a Taste of The Forest tasting session for my birthday. Just arriving at such an iconic venue was wonderful to start with, but then to find we were going to learn about the history of Forest Gin was a wonderful bonus. Chris made the experience really memorable and tasting all the wonderful spirits and hearing the background to them was really fascinating. Thankyou. (Having a driver definitely recommended!!)

What a hidden gem! We stumbled upon The Cat & Fiddle — the highest distillery in England — on our way home after a long walk. I’d remembered seeing it on Wheeler Dealers when they sold the Escort here, so I was curious to pop in. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Water arrived straight away, and our waiter took the time to walk us through the favourites and recommendations. My wife is a gin lover (and a bit particular), so I explained the challenge to our waiter. He confidently suggested their small-batch house special — Damson Berry Gin — and wow… it was like sipping a glass of Vimto on a hot summer’s day. Absolutely stunning! The level of care, knowledge, and pride the staff have in their craft is remarkable. The only disappointment? They didn’t have a bottle of that Damson Berry Gin for sale, because I would have happily taken one home! If you’re anywhere nearby, don’t miss it. A fantastic spot with brilliant people and unforgettable flavours.

Popped in for our last meal whilst we holidayed in Matlock. The coffee and the CLUB sandwich were pretty good. Especially if you’re hungry. Would love to see what the bar is like in the evening as well. Service was great and we welcomed with smiles. If you’re staying in the area, I’d recommend eating here.

Very cosy place with great drinks and delicious food. Came here on Sunday morning for breakfast with some friends. We were seated pretty much immediately.Their hot chocolate is outstanding. First time I have tried their “Shakshuka” which is poached eggs in Mediterranean style sauce, topped with crumbled feta & side of a toast- was so tasty, well-prepared and full of flavour. The all day breakfast my husband ordered was also stunning, good value, he really enjoyed that. Friendly service, loved all the vintage decor too!!!

Recognized as the Pub of the Year 2020 by Matlock and Dales CAMRA, it's a go-to spot for beer enthusiasts. Great little independent bar, friendly welcome from staff and other customers. Nice selected of draft/keg/cask beers as well as bottled beers and ciders to drink in or takeaway. It's a hard slog up the hill from the main town, but worth the drink at the end.

Cracking micro pub this, serving a wide range of ale from cask, keg, bottle and can. The landlord Mark is a friendly chap and up for a chat. He’s knowledgeable and passionate about the area too. Gave me some good tips for my travels. Nice little story how the place came to be. Nicely kitted out with a rustic cosy vibe. The ale is good and reasonably priced, I had a selection of 3. Very refreshing, it needed to be because it’s a bit of a walk up that hill from the town centre. Well worth it though. Will definitely pop in again when I’m in the area. Cheers! 🍻

Great micropub. It was a good size and well decorated. Mark was very knowledgeable about local beers and had a decent selection of bottles. Came in on Saturday at 20:00 after the match day and the fella on the bar was sat having his dinner behind the bar and just ignored us waiting for 10 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, everyone needs a break, but isn’t there more than one member of staff on to help him out or cover his break? It’s also an empty glass apocalypse with no sign of revival. Every table is full of empty glasses and I get it’s hard and you’re on your own but why? Also wash your hands after your dinner man, greases chicken hands on my glass ;/ Usually a great pub that I love coming to and think they have great service and beers, but have no music on or zero atmosphere and I don’t understand why, it’s a shame. Also I understand it’s boring sometimes but you can’t wear EarPods while serving? Also last orders at 8:30 on a Saturday night, surely not?
Ethan N — Google review
A really wide range of traditional and quirky beers brewed with some love by the owner. They are clearly passionate about what they do and serve and wil chat about the different beers and let you try small drams of what you fancy. I had a couple of very interesting Half's, the mild with coconut astonished me. This is not a beer I would normally try but was terrific. It's card only, no cash, and the beer menu is so big and changes so regularly it's mounted on a large flat screen above the bar. Well worth a try on your way into town. Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert has truly carved out a niche for itself in the vibrant Sheffield beer scene, especially impressive given that it’s run by just two passionate individuals. Originally hailing from America, they made the leap across the pond to bring their European-inspired brewing vision to life in this historic city known for its rich pub culture and craft beer offerings.
We LOVE visiting this brewery taproom, it is one of if not our favourite. We make the effort to travel a few times a year as it’s not on our doorstep. The beer is amazing, the space is quirky and Dann & Martha are just the nicest people. Can’t wait for our next visit!

In a word…..WOW! Seriously good beer expertly brewed on site by a true craftsman who has a deep understanding and love of good beer. Dann, Martha, and the team have created a very relaxed, fun, and welcoming place. Smodfest was a blast too - will certainly be back soon. Bravo! 👏🏻

I don’t know how I haven’t rated SMOD before. They’re an institution - one of my favourite brewers in the UK, friendly and with a great crew. The taproom is a lovely space right next to where they brew. Usually around 8 beers available at any time, plus a takeaway fridge and merch. Bar snacks (crisps, scampi fries etc) available. Open 10 months a year (closed Jan/Feb) Friday and Saturday without fail. Martha and Dann are the best there is at what they do!

SMOD had been high on my list of places to visit and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Dann and Martha are lovely and the beer is some of the best I’ve ever tasted (especially the Dämmerlicht). I even got to experience my first banked beer which looked incredible. Would love to go again next time I visit Sheffield.

Been wanting to visit for ages and finally made it to SMODFEST. What a gorgeous, relaxing place to enjoy some delicious beer. Will definitely be back!
Lawn F — Google review
What a lovely place to drink delicious beer! Normally when a craft beer place is in an industrial zone they are the type of place with uncomfortable benches in a cold shed behind a rolling shutter doors. Not here! You walk in to a welcoming front garden setting and if you don't want to enjoy beers outside (with table service) you can enjoy them inside surrounded by loads of Belgian posters and decorations. Great service and the beers speak for themselves! This is a must go for beet lovers when in Sheffield.
Bob K — Google review
Hands down, best tap room I've been too, with probably the best beers being brewed in England right now. It you just enjoy a casual drop, it's about a 7 minute taxi from the station and well worth it for the incredibly friendly staff, the gorgeous little dog and the fantastic owners. Beer nerds should make a pilgrimage here as a matter of urgency, especially if you like European and Belgian style beers - you won't find better ones (or fresher ones). We were given a little tour of the brewery too - fascinating and interesting to see them using some novel/traditional methods. I was on a train for about 3.5 hours to get there... Worth every minute.

Oh wow what a great afternoon with Jake who told us the history of gin and answered questions and Lauren who kept the different gins coming and explaining each flavour. I wasn't a big gin lover until Saturday, Sheffield gin is the best. We mixed what flavours we wanted and distilled it. We tasted the groups different gins too from coffee, Yorkshire Tea, chocolate, chilli....lots! We bottled it, sealed the top and named our gins, mine was HotSass and I won the best on the night Chilli, Coconut and Rhubarb. We will certainly going back. Big thank you to Jake and Lauren who made our afternoon perfect .

Can't understand anyone complaining about the place, its a brewery that serves a pub so where else are they meant to build it and I've worked and lived next to much noisier places! Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield is a captivating destination that delves into the city's industrial history. Located on a manmade island with over 900 years of heritage, the museum offers interactive galleries and skilled craftsmen showcasing Sheffield's manufacturing roots. From steel-making to the mass production boom during the Industrial Revolution, visitors can explore various aspects of industry, including exhibits on knife-sharpening and a working 12,000hp steam engine.
Great museum, well worth a visit to find out more about industry in Sheffield. At 2pm they run the steam engine that is well worth watching. Free entry and accepts donations, don’t forget to complete your gift aid if donating. Staff were very nice and very helpful. Toilets are clean, well stocked and tidy. Cafe is good for a coffee and cake, like other museum cafes a little expensive but well worth it. There is a kids activity sheet to complete and some hands on exhibits and a little dress up area too so kids will like it here. Not one negative to our experience. Suitable for all ages. Free parking or 10 to 15 minute walk to town.

A must visit for technology and history buffs when in Sheffield. While the museum is free, donations are welcomed. I spent a good deal of time here just exploring and absorbing the steel industry. Who knew that aside from armoury and steel plating, sheffield was also famous for cutlery and other steel based utensils including pocket knives! Friendly staff just enhanced the whole experience. You also get to see the huge steam engine made for rolling steel and which they turn on allow to run on Thursdays to Sundays. Check the times as I missed seeing it run having visited on Wednesday. Still an amazing site to behold!! Love the visit and I highly recommend it.

This is fantastic if you are an engineer or interested in the history of steel making. Lots of great exhibits the best of which are the large steam engine which you can see running it made me tingle watching it. Also a Crossley engine that turns over showing how these things worked plus plenty more things check out their website. Suggested payment is £5 which is frankly very low for the display on show. You must go

Visitors can delve into the textile-industry history and witness CGI presentations depicting Arkwright's journey from modest beginnings to pioneering advancements in cotton spinning.
Had a tour guide who was very informative. We were on a time line as part of a coaching holiday. The driver said we had to be back by a certain time and the guide said that couldn't complete the tour in time. We saw the main part but it would have been nice if we could have completed the tour

Great for a dip into the heritage of milling. Some independent shops to browse and a cafe. Cross the road for a canal side walk, too. All dog friendly and free to enter. Guided tours available at a cost. Canal boat trips also available.

This is free to look round, but we paid for a tour guide Mike was very informative this is well worth doing because we had a tour guide we got to see part of the building that other people don't see. They is a few shops and toilets also you can't something to eat. I would highly recommend coming here

Sir Richard Arkwright’s first water powered spinning mill, built in 1771 is a classic example of engineering and social genius. Starting out as a penniless apprentice wigmaker Arkwright became a leading figure of the Industrial Revolution by ruthlessly exploiting, refining and scaling other people’s ideas. The site includes Arkwright’s mill, his mansion house, personal church and the mill manager’s house. Five stars is for the historic interest and significance. Strongly recommend the guided tours and the excellent volunteer guides. The site has extensive parking, cafe, craft shops and toilets.

We went here today. A lot to see and do. Some lovely arts and crafts and antiques shops. Good cafe which is reasonably priced. Had a lovely walk, but the weather wasn't the best

Excellent Historical Location. See where the first factory of its type was built, how a very clever and industrious man changed the way we work today... and there's more 😃 Well worth the visit. Take the guided tour, then take the assisted tour around the town

It was my first time here and despite the rain I had a lovely afternoon looking around the shops around the mill. The shops ranged from bookshops, knitting and antiques for sale, I managed to bag a bargain or two before heading to the nearby pub for a carvery.

A great day out. Cromford Mill was built by Richard Arkwright. The Cromford Mill is world's 1st ever Factory Mill and is part of the Industrial Revolution. Cromford Mill is an UNESCO World Heritage site set in the Derwent Valley in Derbyshire Dales. Cromford mill has a cafe, loos, a cheese shop, lots of other shops, The Richard Arkwright Expereince and a free video explaining all about the Mill. The mill also has gift shop as well. They regulary put on events like Comic Con and fairs. Every bit on money given to mill goes towards its up keep. It also has St Marys Church which wad built by the Arkwright family and there is a lovely church walk by the River Derwent for vistors to enjoy.

This is one of the more convenient fresh produce and seafood markets in Manchester city centre. It offers a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and seafood, making it a great option for those looking for fresh ingredients. The selection is quite diverse, and it’s easy to find everything you need in one place. However, the prices are on the higher side, which might not make it the most budget-friendly option. Additionally, while the seafood selection is decent, the quality can be a bit hit or miss—it’s not always as fresh as you’d expect for the price. That being said, the market is well-organised and convenient, making it a solid choice for grocery shopping, especially if you’re after variety and ease of access. If they could improve the seafood quality and adjust the pricing a little, it would be even better!

The Arndale Market is the far less classy neighbour of the adjacent Ardnale Shopping Centre, but in some ways is more interesting as a result. You'll find traditional market stalls, nail bars, mobile phone shop as well as a large and well stocked fishmonger but the real selling point of the market is the array of independant food outlets offering (at the time of writing) cuisines including Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Greek, Mexican, Brazilian, Caribbean, Greek, British, pizza, sandwiches and much more. You need to have a proper wander before deciding which stall to order from. Personally I try to order from a different stall each time I visit Manchester, which as I'm there two or three times a year means I'm still working my around, and it seems everytime I go there there's a new place opened up. It's a bit of a shame that Google Maps couldn't actually manage to find a photo of the market to choose as the "cover photo" for this listing, but Google Maps do seem to have a knack of picking the least appropriate photos to illustrate venues!!!

Not into stinky fish in the market but if you are. Then this place is a must for you. You can't miss it as it is right in front of you! There is an Asian fruit and veg stall where you find all kind of exotic fruits as much veg. It's reasonable prices too. Whenever I fancy some fresh guava fruit I come here for them.

Great little explanation of the process for the tour and generous samples. A great add on for our stag do, the owner clearly loved what he did and had great fun with us. Your was maybe a little big but it was a good buzz as a result. Would recommend if you like their beer or want a chilled group activity. Yes it is in the building you don't expect it to be

Did a day with the brewer today and had a cracking time! John and Pete were very welcoming and knowledgeable. We learnt so much about the process and the art of brewing! Sampled some of their bottled beers which tasted so much better when you understand the effort these guys put in to making them! With Breakfast and lunch included and a few beers to take home you just can't go wrong! Such a great experience and a brilliant day out! I couldn't recommend this enough, if you're a beer lover and you want to see how this product is truly made with the passion of a smaller brewery then this really is for you!
