Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is a unique botanical garden located in Juneau, offering guided tours through a picturesque rainforest and flower gardens. Situated within the Tongass National Forest, this attraction showcases creative and unusual displays resulting from gardening in Southeast Alaska's temperate climate. Visitors can explore landscapes, upside-down trees, waterfalls, ponds, and streams restored from storm damage. The 2-mile loop trail provides an easy and family-friendly way to experience nature while admiring the beautiful flower towers.
It's a nice hike or golf cart ride to some beautiful views of Juneau. The idea is crazy! A garden shop owner buys woodland property that suffered a landslide and then landscapes a wonderland. This was another recommendation from locals. It was worth the time. You definitely need to call before you trek out there. They were closing early that day. The owner is this 67-year-old guy who is still maintaining and planning and creating something special. It's great to see the beauty he's brought into the world.

What beautifully maintained grounds. The flowers are beautiful. The tour via golf cart takes about an hour. The guides are very knowledgeable and informative regarding all the different plants, flowers etc. the gift shop is small with lots of reasonably priced items. There is also a small cafe for light snack and drinks. There is a walking trail if you prefer to walk. Recommend for all ages.
Diane C — Google review
Excellent old growth Rainforest garden and the guided tours of the rainforest were very educational. The view from the top of the mountain is wonderful and I understand that it is one of the best of the Juneau area. I was amazed at the knowledge of the local staff. You need to try the hot chocolate at the gift shop. I don’t drink coffee, but I am a certified cocoa connoisseur. Their serving was the best that I drank on my whole Alaska vacation, cruise and road trip.
Rex H — Google review
If I could, I would give a 4.5. A bit pricy but an enjoyable time. The views at the top are spectacular. The flower displays at the greenhouse/entrance were lovely. Tour guide did a nice job explaining things. Reminded me a bit of Olympic National Park.
Jimmer W — Google review
First the pros: Very interesting story regarding this property. I’m so impressed with what the owner has done. We really loved hearing the backstory. The vegetation is beautiful and varied as well. Now the cons: This property is set up as a cruise ship destination. Which means bus loads of day trippers come here for the tour. We were not from a cruise ship as we were staying in Juneau. But we were herded like cattle for the tour. They have large golf cart that takes everyone to the top of the property. Everyone is jockeying for a spot on the carts. Not a very relaxing experience. Once on the golf cart the driver gave a monotone and disinterested commentary. I have to agree with the other reviews regarding the staff. They were knowledgeable but not friendly. We weren’t subject to outright rudeness but you can tell that the staff just tolerates you being there. All in all we are happy that we went and kudos to the owner for what he has done. Just keep your expectations in check before you go.
Beth F — Google review
Glacier Gardens was a pleasant surprise! The gardens are lush and beautiful, and you get a gorgeous panoramic view of Juneau from the top of the mountain at an elevation of 580 feet. Our guide, Deb, was awesome!
Jessica C — Google review
The Glacier Rainforest Adventure was a memorable experience! We rode up in golf carts and enjoyed the scenic mountainous drive while learning some local history from our driver. The Upside Down Trees stop was interesting, though the staff were a bit rude but it was manageable. To top it off, we enjoyed a warm cup of Nissin ramen at the end. A fun and unique adventure overall!
Dmitri V — Google review
This was a bit of an odd trip. We got there and you are driven up to the top of the property, where there is a fantastic lookout. On the way up you gets verbal tour of the gardens, it's 90% just stuff in the forest they point out, mixed with corny jokes. You get a solid 60 seconds at the lookout before they force you back down to the main entrance again. When you are done the ride you can wander the grounds and see more of the garden, it's ok. Gift shop is ok. Wouldn't come again. They really just churn people through as fast as possible

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is a fascinating destination for those interested in the history of the city and its surroundings. The museum features permanent exhibits that delve into the historical significance of various aspects such as fishing, mining, skiing, politics, statehood, and native lifestyles. Additionally, it hosts temporary exhibits showcasing local artists and focusing on regional history and culture.
Wonderful, very inexpensive museum with lots to do for all ages. $7 for adults. Kids under 12 free. Seniors $6. Learn about the glacier, the mines, the geology, the arts in the town. Our 2 year old had a blast, but we enjoyed it as well. Bathrooms were clean and had cute local comics on the walls. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a nice museum right across the street from the State Capital Building. It is a smaller museum with information and artifacts about the history of the State of Alaska. They have a little gift shop and the staff are friendly.

Very nice and interesting museum that tells and displays the history of Juneau and Alaska! Very friendly, helpful and informative staff at the museum. Highly recommend visiting if you are around the area!

Wonderful little place to learn about the history and progress of Juneau. Street parking only. Loved it.
Debra H — Google review
Friendly front desk staff and the museum is the perfect size to explore in an hour or so. It provides a historical ‘snapshot’ view of the area which is a nice foundation when visiting other sites. I especially liked learning about the push to move the capital to Willow. Highly recommend to pair a visit with a tour of the capitol building across the street. It has a tiny gift area, so you’ll want to do your souvenir shopping elsewhere if you want a range of items to choose from.

he Museum is housed in the Veterans Memorial Building, built in 1950-51 (Classical Revival style), originally Juneau’s Memorial Library. It sits opposite the Alaska State Capitol. The museum packs in quite a lot within a modest space. Some highlights: General History Gallery — timeline of Juneau’s development, pioneer/immigrant stories, businesses and industries past & present. Tlingit Culture & Wood & Waterways — Tlingit canoe traditions, paddle types, and construction; also fishing methods. Life on the Water — relates to Juneau’s maritime lifestyle (ferries, steamships, shipwrecks, etc.). Politics, Personalities & Power — includes the story of how Alaska became a state, civil rights (Elizabeth Peratrovich), political developments, etc. A large relief map showing Juneau and its geography + changes (glacial retreat, shorelines) is especially engaging.
Paul P — Google review
A qaint little museum with very affordable gifts like enamel pins, art, and post cards. There is a fee of about $7 to walk around 5 rooms - One of them includes a movie. It was fascinating to learn about Jeaunu and the support within their community. For example, the museum exhibited Junaeu's school and performance hall. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable about Juneau. She directed me to shops I'd be intereted in like a pin store that was right around the corner.
Fluffy P — Google review
$7 ticket price, very simple museum if you're looking to get out of the cold and learn something about the town. It's a single storey homely museum of knick knacks collected locally. The video was very interesting.

Escape the crowds and find tranquility at the National Shrine of St. Thérèse, located "out the road." This serene site offers a peaceful environment for contemplation, with its beautiful stone church and 15 stations of the cross. Accessible via a 400-foot-long pedestrian causeway, it sits on a tiny island.
What a beautiful shrine a d surrounding property. There is a gravel lot for parking and a short steep trail down to the bathroom and retreat buildings. The bathrooms were heated and very clean, which was nice this time of year. Not far from that were some of the well maintained planting areas and the gift shop. But the real gem is the causeway to the island where the shrine to St Therese is. The walk is great out to the wooded island, with plenty of sea and land animals being seen to either side. Once you reach the island, there is a trail with a series of small shrines about the life of Jesus, statuary, and peaceful quiet. Inside the beautiful church is a guest book, a place to buy a Saint's pendant, and plenty of pews to sit in quiet reflection. I'm so glad we took the time to come out here as it was a highlight of our visit to Juneau.

Wow wow wow...I have been to Juneau 4 times and this was my first visit to the national shrine of st. Terese. 100% make the time to visit regardless of you religious beliefs. The nature you will see is exquisite! If you are Catholic, the walk with the stations of the cross is incredibly moving and will raise your spirit. The love meditation garden is lovely and I could not imagine not finding some inner peace during your visit. 100% visit!!

Absolutly fantastic place to visit while in Juneau. The history and peace of this place was a welcome break from the business of a cruise ship. Highly recommend.

Very nice, beautiful and breathtaking place. We have good sunny weather and view was crazy good. If you visit in time when Salman at spawning you have grate chance to come really close and see it. This was grate time and opportunity to be there. If you on cruise jut rent a car and get here it worth it.

Such a beautiful location! Very well maintained and in an amazing location. There were marmots along the trail to the Shrine of St. Thérèse.

There is an undescribable sense of peace. The church and grounds are well kept. Free public parking, short walk to the premises.

The National Shrine of Saint Therese overlooks Lynn Canal and the Chilkat Mountains. It's situated on 46 acres. The site contains a stone chapel, crypt, labyrinth, columbarium, lodge, cabin, and retreat. We spent a few hours just exploring the property which is free to do. The chapel was closed so we did not go in it but we could walk around it. The gardens were beautiful and very peaceful. The website has all the information on the rentals.

The Alaska State Capitol is a prominent feature in Juneau's skyline, with its grand marble-pillared structure occupying an entire city block. The city itself is rich in artistic expression, boasting numerous art museums, galleries, murals, and statues showcasing the work of local artists. Public art can be found throughout the city, including totem poles and murals depicting cultural and historical themes.
This is an awesome capitol building. You're able to view just about every single office. Very welcoming unlike my home state capitol... awesome history in the walls like old newspapers and such. Maybe an hour to do a self guided tour. Very short walk if you're a cruise passenger. Lots of great photo opportunities.
Slim S — Google review
Is this building the most beautiful, architecturally attractive and aesthetically pleasing state capitol? Not by a long shot. However, its uniqueness of being “just another historical building” and ease of access in the heart of Juneau makes it worthy of visiting. Start from the 5th floor by using the wood adorned elevators and work your way down, all while seeing the house and senate chambers, Governor’s Office and offices that allow you to visit. I was pleasantly surprised to run into a staffer for a state senator and she gave tailored recommendations for what to do in the area and history of the state and what her job entails and the government construct of the 49th state. It’s people like her that really made the visit worthwhile. Definitely worth checking out if you have the time.

Juneau is a beautiful capitol. We had the best Red King Crab legs. We also went to the top of the 1800 ft. Mountain on a tram.

I love to visitvisit a state Capitol building. The staff here was very friendly and informative. Government was not in session so there were not a lot of people around. We got to visit both galleries and saw a lot of interesting newspaper clippings.

Lovely stop in Juneau. Spent about an hour wandering around. It's a great place to go for some history of Alaska and see some beautiful Art Deco architecture. And to the person who puts out the tiny trinkets for kids to find (and the gentleman who told us about them), thank you! You helped my kids enjoy the time even more so that I, their nerdy mom, could enjoy all the building has to offer.

The Alaska State Museum is a treasure trove of culture, history, and art that showcases the rich heritage of Alaska's diverse Native populations. Visitors can delve into exhibits that highlight native culture, natural science, and historical narratives. Families will appreciate the dedicated kids' section featuring a play area to keep young explorers engaged.
Such a great hidden gem of a museum. Loved the displays featuring not just modern Alaska as part of the US but also displays featuring the culture of the area from the various time periods when Russia controlled the area, the native peoples and tribes and how the history of the area has shaped what we see today. Thoroughly enjoyed this museum and will visit each time in the future to see the changing displays
Dave B — Google review
A wonderful museum with loads of information about the native peoples and the overall history of Alaska, good and bad. Allot enough time to take it all in; we were there ninety minutes; a few hours would not have been wasted. Nothing but praise for the good work done by this museum; the presentation and technology was terrific.
Dennis C — Google review
We took a quick visit before a whale watching tour, since we wanted to learn about the history of the area. I really enjoyed how it took you through time starting with the native people and their culture and artifacts, followed by the various modern colonizing groups and their effects on the area, and then into the eventual statehood of Alaska. There are multiple clean bathrooms, the museum is clean, perfectly lit, has a great layout, words are easy to read, the items on display are in wonderful condition and displayed well. There is a kids area with supplies to draw and make crafts as well as play on a ship. Overall it's a good experience that will take about 1 hour to get through. I would reccomend going her if you are in Juneau.
Jared — Google review
This museum takes you on a trip through Alaska's history and peoples, with well-organized exhibits. We were glad to see the emphasis on Alaska Native people. There was no evidence of editing history for political purposes. Four of us visited from our cruise ship for about an hour and a half. It was time well spent.
Jenny K — Google review
An incredible museum filled with Indigenous history, culture and arts and local art as well. We learned so much about the history of Indigenous tribes and their lives. I walked away with a deeper awareness and understanding of their diverse heritage and the beautiful ways they preserved the nature and connection with their land. Highly recommend! There is free parking and general admission for adults is $14. Free admission for up to 5 people if you are an active military member+family.
Jaja C — Google review
It was a nice museum, but REALLY dropped the ball when it came to the last section, the one I was most interested in, and looking forward to, the Geology. With how geology rich Alaska is, I could not believe they had basically NOTHING relating to volcanos, earthquakes, orology, samples of not only gold, but other minerals rich in the state. Glaciers, not a thing on glaciers at all. It was not worth the money I paid to get in, and they did not even give me the correct change back, did not notice until I got back on the ship. The coolest part of the whole thing were the massive ravens OUTSIDE the museum that a homeless man was feeding, they must have been about 3 feet tall!! I wish I had taken pictures of them, as they were not there when I left the museum. Take my $37 you did not give back from my $50 and use it improving your geological displays!
Valerie L — Google review
Another great museum with wonderful artifacts. Lots to learn. We enjoyed the visit. The staff was so nice. The facility is beautiful.
Sunshine — Google review
I spent 4 hours there, looked at everything, watched an artist make a real canoe, listened to all the documentaries, learned about first people face tattooing tradition, as well as the shawls they made to hold water ceremonies by the shore. I found out there are 11 different types of tribes living around Alaska region, and sometimes Russians would invade Alaska. This museum was fascinating and beautifully curated. I learned a ton speaking to the staff who were extremely knowledgeable and patient. Ticket was around $40? Can't remember exactly, very worth it.

Located just north of Juneau's center, the Last Chance Mining Museum offers a glimpse into the city's mining past. Operated by the Gastineau Channel Historical Society, this museum showcases artifacts and equipment from the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company, which operated on the site from 1912 to 1944. Visitors can explore rusting buildings, old equipment, and mining cars while learning about hard rock gold mining.
Great museum for Juneau’s mining history. Be aware that it is not handicapped accessible. You must walk a trail and cross a foot bridge and hike up to the museum.
Olivia O — Google review
Such amazing information. The man that was volunteering had so much great information. We panned for gold in the stream. So relaxing and fun.
Shelley N — Google review
Just happened to visit the museum after a hike and loved it. Many mining related artifacts, friendly and helpful staff, and many more remnants of Juneau’s mining history. Beautiful location, but might be challenging for handicapped individuals to get to.
Devin B — Google review
It's a little challenging to get to, but there's great history of the area to be learned here. Other mine experiences charge $60 and up, whereas this is just $5. While it doesn't go into a mine, you get a great understanding of all the mining that went on in Juneau. Enjoy the drive in, the walk across the bridge, and all the ground. My family very much enjoyed our visit and we're glad we didn't pay $60 per person for the other mine experiences in town.
D S — Google review
Cute little museum ran by volunteers. $5 cash admission fee gets you in to see the impressive collection of mining equipment. Volunteers are very knowledgeable about the old ways of mining. Notable is the steep incline to get in either a walk up a gravel path or a large flight of stairs. Beautiful scenery all around makes it worth the trip!
Angel S — Google review
Cool little museum that appears to be family run. Emery for adults in $5 and we’re not charged for an 11 year old. Takes about 15 minutes to get through the museum. Best part was purchasing a plastic gold pan kit for $8 and then actually panning and finding gold flakes in the river below. Tip: Take taxi / ride share up to the mine and then walk back to town about 30 minutes, it’s beautiful.

Located in Juneau, Alaska, the Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church is a small and historic octagonal wooden church that dates back to 1893. Despite no actual Russians setting foot in Juneau during the Russian colonial period from 1784 to 1867, the Orthodox Church gained popularity, leading to the construction of this charming blue and white church. The church is now considered one of Alaska's most historically significant continuously operated churches and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A quiet place to visit and spend some time with God. Beautiful icons.

My husband and I have traveled to Juneau several times. The church is beautiful inside and out. It is worth the steep hill. Nestled in a neighborhood away from the shops. The priest,Father Maximus was very kind and welcoming. We were able to attend services. The atmosphere is very peaceful and reverent. The choir, along with Matushka Michelle, the priests wife, sang beautifully. Native Alaskans, Ukrainians,Greek - are among the parishioners. Very interesting to hear bits and pieces sung, along with English. The gift shop is open for purchases to support the church along with donations. Hopefully renovations will be made so the church can thrive.
Kathy P — Google review
What a quaint jewel from the Russian past. It's still a working church. I'm so glad to see the restoration work going on. The priest was a nice gentleman. It is a wonderful steep hike from downtown. It's free, but they are saving for more restorations. It's definitely worth a quick pop in on your hike on up the mountain.

If you’re a sucker for all things history this may be a great stop for you. If coming from the port like us it is a bit of a trek up some steep hills. I wouldn’t count myself in the best shape ha ha, but I made it and it was worth it. This church is nestled in a neighborhood away from the shops. Founded in 1893 . The church is still in operation so you can go inside. Please of course be respectful. It is part of the National Register of Historic Places. Very cool to see in person and know it is still well loved.

Nestled in the heart of Juneau, the Governor’s Mansion of Alaska stands as a stunning testament to early 20th-century architecture. Completed in 1912 for around $40,000, this elegant colonial-style residence features striking stone columns and a grand balcony that adds to its charm. Over the years, it has undergone significant renovations, including an extensive update in the early 1980s costing over $2.5 million.
This is a very pretty, nice old building that I have frequently walked past when growing up and living in Juneau. I have only been inside once when I worked for the Governor’s staff. It is quite beautiful inside too. The Governor’s seldom live there except during legislative sessions.

The only two things good about the current Governor's mansion is the fact he might eventually lose his seat to a Democrat, and that his constituents are smarter then him... See sign directly across the street from the mansion. Canada Rocks! 🇨🇦

The governor of Alaska in a government building (Governors Mansion) should not be flying (anything political in nature) a pro-life flag next to the United States flag. It is illegal, as this is state property. Something should be done about this. V/r, John S Ehrhart RN, EOD/HAZMAT SPECIALIST U.S. Army Medical Corps / U.S. Coast Guard Retired Juneau, Alaska

The Hangar On The Wharf is a popular spot in Juneau, housed in a converted 1930s airplane hangar on an old wooden pier. It offers a diverse menu and over 20 beers on tap. Visitors can enjoy their drinks while taking in the stunning views of the harbor and surrounding peaks from the balcony. The venue also serves freshly caught seafood such as halibut, king crab, and wild salmon year-round.
Such an amazing experience! After so many days of cruise buffet food and tourist traps, this place was legit. Everything is homemade. The portions are perfect, above average. The quality is very high. It's a very convenient walk from the cruise ports. It's in a building with other businesses, it seemed a little odd getting there. But once you're there, it is beautiful, great experience and pictures. The food though, amazing! I got a burger and the shrimp and washed down with the grasshopper mint chocolate chip pie, which I can't explain how good it was. The decor, was all of aviation and so many plane tanking from the ceiling. The view was breathtaking as you get to see all the mountains right out the big windows. The Hanger is a must, you'll be happy that you did.

Located in the heart of Juneau, next to port where usually Quantam of the seas docks in the blue colored building next to it. This is a busy place and usually there is a wait about 20 mins. We ordered lazy suzy, king crab, fettuccine and the soup. The soup was delicious and savory. The highlight is the crab meat, very fresh. Visit if you can and support local business

Visiting. Abby was an absolute gem! We sat by the bar and were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery from our seats. The establishment is ADA friendly (ample space for my husband to navigate his electric wheelchair) and has a very cool vibe. We ordered the oysters, Caesar salad, wings, and pretzels. All were great choices.

Beautiful view! Good food. Good beer selection. Ended up here after a local said she eats here weekly. It is a great place. There was a 20-minute wait for a table, but the bar was open. The bartender was on top of things! He had the order in fast and correctly. The bar ended up being a nice place to chat with more locals! I had the salmon burger. Excellent!!! The only ding was the sweet potato fries. You have to pay more for them, and they were soggy. They were still tasty. There are pool tables upstairs if you have time to play.

The line is long, but definitely worth it! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was amazing. I tried the “chowder of the day,” made with halibut and salmon. It was the best chowder I’ve had in Alaska—so creamy and flavorful. It came with sourdough bread and crackers. The garlic-flavored bread was served hot, which made it even better. Overall, I had a wonderful lunch and would highly recommend this place.
Sae K — Google review
I really enjoyed the crab here and the salmon soup. I didn’t think the salmon soup in the bread bowl was going to be that good but it was honestly the best thing on the menu besides the crab. I also tried some of the shrimp but those were just so so. The prices were reasonable for Alaska, especially in a tourist area. We sat outside and got a great view of some of the sea planes landing. It was a perfect evening and the weather was just right in early September. It’s in a short walk from the cruise ships and there are buses. That’ll take you back-and-forth to the downtown area. I definitely recommend checking out this area even if you don’t eat at this restaurant, but if you do it at this restaurant, then you’ll enjoy the food because it was very delicious.
J T — Google review
Great atmosphere! Watched planes landing and taking off on the water. We ordered the seafood chowder and the grilled salmon. Salmon was way over cooked, dry and leathery. Sent it back to the chef, the second one was better, but not great.

Aug 2, 2025 we went to Juneau to Celebrate our 45th Wedding anniversary. Every year we choose a different restaurant and fly there. We had a few choices in Juneau but settled on The Hanger. They did not disappoint! No, it’s not a fancy dress up place or even very romantic unless you love Airplanes as much as I do! After 45 years, I think my wife and I have figured it out. I had the Grilled Halibut, she the Macadamia crusted Halibut and the consensus was….. Fresh Halibut should be eaten simply grilled with butter! Don’t get me wrong, she also enjoyed the Macadamia, however it masked the wonderful flavor of the Halibut. Oh yeah, we also ordered 1 pound of King Crab just to top it all off. Delicious. We had reservations for a window with a view, which we showed up a bit early for, but within 15 minutes we were at our table enjoying the view. “Tag Teamed” by a Mother and Daughter waitress team, (Sorry you guys I didn’t write down your names but I’m sure the establishment can get you the accolades you deserve). We were never without great service and they didn’t even know it was a special occasion! Once Mom found out, she removed the Cream Brule from our ticket even though I insisted she didn’t. Make a reservation, however they wait isn’t bad if you don’t and the Bar is always open!!! Worth any wait. Thanks again John & Trish Tempe, Arizona

Perched atop 'Chicken Ridge' behind the capitol, Wickersham State Historic Site is the former home of James Wickersham, a prominent figure in Alaska's history. The 1898 New England-style house showcases memorabilia from his Alaskan travels, including rare Native artifacts and historic photos. Judge Wickersham played a pivotal role in bringing law and order to gold-rush towns and advocating for significant developments such as the Alaska Railroad and Denali National Park.
I was a dental student from Portland, Oregon and spent the summers of 1966 and 1967 driving taxi for Yellow Cab in Juneau. I took many tourists to the "House of Wickersham" to listen to Ruth Alman's {niece of the judge] historical narratives. She served sourdough pancakes and rose hip jam after the lecture. Before leaving my last summer in 1967, she gave me her sourdough starter. I have kept it viable to this day.
Fay L — Google review
Cool little historic site. Wickersham was an important figure in Alaska's territorial days, and it's impressive that his house has survived all this time. Only the first floor is available for exploring.
Norman T — Google review
NOTE: I did this tour in 2017. Standard historical house tour with an excellent, warm, and inviting tour guide. That said, I would recommend reading up about Judge Wickersham - he had some noteworthy foibles, particularly involving a history of discriminative actions against Asian Americans and of being a seemingly pathological liar. Despite that, the home itself is well-kept and it's always worth taking the opportunity to revisit a piece of history, if only to increase our awareness of how things came to be.
Junnie C — Google review
The historical site is worth the walk up to it. Learning about the site and the people who lived there is helpful in knowing about Juneau.

Closed for COVID. I called the museum in advance, but recieved no answer, but Google Maps says it is open, and their website only says "Closed For 2020". So we decided to risk it and make the hike in the rain, thinking the museum would be perfect for a rainy day. When we got there, we were met with a sign saying it's closed 'til 2022 because of COVID. Google Maps and the Museum need to update their websites to say that is closed. The neighborhood has some pretty houses, but that's about it.

We had a great visit and discussion with the docent, Mary Kay. Judge Wickersham was a pretty talented and bold person with a lot of professionalism, determination and resiliency.

The gallery is run by a cooperative of local artists and offers a diverse range of affordable artwork.
I bought the most beautiful aquamarine necklace from this charming gallery (made by Jayne Andreen), it just epitomised Alaska for me, but when I checked out my carrier bag burst, instead of helping me repair it, the wonderful man at the counter (Rick?) gave me a new handmade bag (made by Tailfeathers) emblazoned with images of salmon, as a gift! He will never understand what this kind and generous gesture meant to me, and I will always remember him and his talented artists in this fabulous place whenever I wear the necklace and use the bag! I used to visit an art gallery in Juneau most weeks when the ship docked (often on a Tuesday in the early 1990's as I worked on cruise ships then). I don't know if it's still there. It was always a good way to spend some time off (from my busy schedule on the ship). A walk and wander around Juneau. I used to chat with the artist (Weimer, I think was his name) at the art gallery sometimes and bought some art (which I still have). Great memories.

The Local Guy Charters & Sightseeing offers an epic fishing experience in The Last Frontier, where you can catch pink salmon and use them as bait for massive halibut. The crew, including Captain Squirt and deckhand Quirky, is personable, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. From communication to drop-off and pick-up, the owner Adam ensures a seamless experience. The crew is also great with kids and goes out of their way to make the trip memorable.
Juneau Alaska is so beautiful and has so much to offer. We went with The Local Guys Charters and Sightseeing yesterday September 29th. We wanted to catch Halibut and Salmon if possible even though it was later in the season. Captain Andrew and his Deck hand Ike were excellent and took care of us. Andrew had on Halibut a few minutes after we parked over the honey hole! It wasn’t long and we had 3 Butts (chickens) caught. We all caught fish. That went so fast we the trolled for Silver Salmon. Within a short time we doubled on 2 Silver Salmon and brought them in too. What a blast!! We saw Whales, Deer on shore a beautiful rainbow and even a Sea Otter 🦦!! I can’t recommend these guys enough!! 10 out of 10!! I’d go again in a second. You should check them out! Great people and memories for a lifetime. Worth every penny!!

We had an awesome morning with Local Guy Charters!! Adam picked us up and dropped us up at the dock. He went out of his way to point out sights and even took us to a park to snap a picture of Mendenhall Glacier. On the boat, Captain Dave knew just where to go to find halibut and WHALES after we caught our fish. Deckhand Ike was very helpful as we tried to get a bite!! We had a truly wonderful morning. I highly recommend Local Guy Charters!

He picked us up from our cruise ship and brought us back after we were done fishing. The deckhand, Ike, was also a pleasure to fish with. Overall such a wonderful experience! We had our fish packaged and shipped home to Michigan with ease. Thanks to all involved! I highly recommend Local Guys Charters
Nicholas A — Google review
I am not typically one to write reviews but Matthew and Kaden were amazing at what they do. I have been on fishing charters all over the country and they are hands down the best we have had. They are very honest and upfront with what they expect for the day the go over what is planned. They are willing to accommodate what you want to do but I would highly recommend just doing what they suggest is best and going with it. Some people may have issue with the the fact they are younger, Matthew in college and Kaden just out of high school, but the knowledge they have of the fish, surrounding area and when are where to go is remarkable. It was also nice to have a captain and deck hand that could have fun and knew when to be serious. We initially booked a 6hr charter for one day but after the first day we all wanted to try to book a second 6hr trip, which with a little moving around by the owner we were able to do.

This is a beautiful broadwalk that stretches from the Overstreet Park to the marina and it is part of the Totem trail. The Seawall winds along the beach and offers numerous view points and scenery. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Stunning views, Sea planes, and a Bald Eagle We came on a clear day and we even saw a Bald eagle perched on a streetlight. It was a gorgeous vista of the water and you can see where the salt water met fresh water. Lots of sea planes casually taking off. This trail had some chill vibes.

Was extremely crowded but it moves along at a comfortable pace. If you want to avoid the crowd and skip the tourist shops get behind the buildings and you can move quickly through town. Great place for walking, most everything is within 15 minute walk. The views of the water and homes on the other side is very nice. The Presbyterian Church Chapel by the Lake is a small and simple church situated on Auke Lake. The chapel was built in the 1950s using only freshly cut spruce logs, and it remains a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful views of the lake and nearby Mendenhall Glacier. Services are held on Sunday morning, with traditional logging tunes playing in the background.
A church that truly welcomes new visitors! Bravo to all who truly went out of their way to meet us and make us feel welcome. I have spent at least a decade of my life in the State Office Building (affectionately referred to as the 'SOB' by locals). When I was young, I thought it was hideous. After all, it's a giant gray/beige/greige misshapen slab of concrete with tiny, indistinct, archer windows and also regular windows that blend seamlessly with the parking garage to look as though the entire building is just one big parking structure. As I became older and naturally more overwhelmed by the anxieties of life, I found myself suddenly drawn to the building's clean crisp lines and its brutal lack of ostentatiousness, intentional brainchild of architects in 1972. But the SOB isn't sad, per se - the 8th floor has a magnificently airy atrium that houses historic totem poles, two small cafes, an old pipe organ, and an oversized balcony. If I'm not totally out of the loop, there are free organ concerts on Fridays at noon, and hanging around on the balcony on a warm day is quite nice. Anyway, I'm not here to romanticize the years I spent laboring, but I would wager that when I'm old and gray, I'll be looking back at my time spent on that sunny balcony quite fondly.

Last Chance Basin is home to the Last Chance Mining Museum, which is located in one of the last standing historic structures of the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining company. Visitors can delve into the rich history of hard rock mining in Juneau and view a collection of antique tools. While reaching the museum involves an uphill hike from downtown, those who make the journey will also have the opportunity to explore old mining train cars situated behind the building.
