Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is a unique botanical garden located in Juneau, offering guided tours through a picturesque rainforest and flower gardens. Situated within the Tongass National Forest, this attraction showcases creative and unusual displays resulting from gardening in Southeast Alaska's temperate climate. Visitors can explore landscapes, upside-down trees, waterfalls, ponds, and streams restored from storm damage. The 2-mile loop trail provides an easy and family-friendly way to experience nature while admiring the beautiful flower towers.
It's a nice hike or golf cart ride to some beautiful views of Juneau. The idea is crazy! A garden shop owner buys woodland property that suffered a landslide and then landscapes a wonderland. This was another recommendation from locals. It was worth the time. You definitely need to call before you trek out there. They were closing early that day. The owner is this 67-year-old guy who is still maintaining and planning and creating something special. It's great to see the beauty he's brought into the world.

What beautifully maintained grounds. The flowers are beautiful. The tour via golf cart takes about an hour. The guides are very knowledgeable and informative regarding all the different plants, flowers etc. the gift shop is small with lots of reasonably priced items. There is also a small cafe for light snack and drinks. There is a walking trail if you prefer to walk. Recommend for all ages.
Diane C — Google review
Excellent old growth Rainforest garden and the guided tours of the rainforest were very educational. The view from the top of the mountain is wonderful and I understand that it is one of the best of the Juneau area. I was amazed at the knowledge of the local staff. You need to try the hot chocolate at the gift shop. I don’t drink coffee, but I am a certified cocoa connoisseur. Their serving was the best that I drank on my whole Alaska vacation, cruise and road trip.
Rex H — Google review
If I could, I would give a 4.5. A bit pricy but an enjoyable time. The views at the top are spectacular. The flower displays at the greenhouse/entrance were lovely. Tour guide did a nice job explaining things. Reminded me a bit of Olympic National Park.
Jimmer W — Google review
First the pros: Very interesting story regarding this property. I’m so impressed with what the owner has done. We really loved hearing the backstory. The vegetation is beautiful and varied as well. Now the cons: This property is set up as a cruise ship destination. Which means bus loads of day trippers come here for the tour. We were not from a cruise ship as we were staying in Juneau. But we were herded like cattle for the tour. They have large golf cart that takes everyone to the top of the property. Everyone is jockeying for a spot on the carts. Not a very relaxing experience. Once on the golf cart the driver gave a monotone and disinterested commentary. I have to agree with the other reviews regarding the staff. They were knowledgeable but not friendly. We weren’t subject to outright rudeness but you can tell that the staff just tolerates you being there. All in all we are happy that we went and kudos to the owner for what he has done. Just keep your expectations in check before you go.
Beth F — Google review
Glacier Gardens was a pleasant surprise! The gardens are lush and beautiful, and you get a gorgeous panoramic view of Juneau from the top of the mountain at an elevation of 580 feet. Our guide, Deb, was awesome!
Jessica C — Google review
The Glacier Rainforest Adventure was a memorable experience! We rode up in golf carts and enjoyed the scenic mountainous drive while learning some local history from our driver. The Upside Down Trees stop was interesting, though the staff were a bit rude but it was manageable. To top it off, we enjoyed a warm cup of Nissin ramen at the end. A fun and unique adventure overall!
Dmitri V — Google review
This was a bit of an odd trip. We got there and you are driven up to the top of the property, where there is a fantastic lookout. On the way up you gets verbal tour of the gardens, it's 90% just stuff in the forest they point out, mixed with corny jokes. You get a solid 60 seconds at the lookout before they force you back down to the main entrance again. When you are done the ride you can wander the grounds and see more of the garden, it's ok. Gift shop is ok. Wouldn't come again. They really just churn people through as fast as possible

Nature & Parks
Nugget Falls is a breathtaking destination that offers scenic walks and hikes, showcasing the stunning beauty of Alaska. Located near Mendenhall Glacier, this picturesque waterfall cascades dramatically into Mendenhall Lake, framed by snow-capped mountains. The Nugget Falls Trail is an easy 20-25 minute stroll from the visitor center, making it accessible for all adventurers.
Beautiful hike up to the falls. Take your time if you are not in a time crunch and enjoy the scenery. The falls were beautiful, especially with the landscape. Once you are at the falls you can't get much of a view of the glacier so try to make it to the other view point if you can.
Andy — Google review
Amazing falls! Huge and loud. Lots of mist. A really neat spot to pop over from the visitor center area. The walk doesn't take all that long
Julia T — Google review
Not a bad walk but it is about a 30-45 minute round trip. Amazing views, crazy close to the falls, with lots of little animal surprises along the way
MrFormido — Google review
This was a gorgeous waterfall. It was an easy trail for our kiddo. The entire walk is flat and semi-paved. We opted to walk along the beach access on the way back from the waterfall.
Miquisha D — Google review
This was a great place for a hike. It is a mile hike on paved trail from the visitor center to the falls. Great views of falls and Mendenhall Glacier. Family all enjoyed it.
Diane C — Google review
Breathtaking view, & you can get up in towards the waterfall for a perfect picture.
Adrian J — Google review
Nugget Falls is one of the most breathtaking natural sights near Juneau, Alaska. Located at the base of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, this powerful waterfall plunges dramatically into Mendenhall Lake, creating an unforgettable scene that feels straight out of a postcard. The short, easy hike from the visitor center makes it accessible to almost everyone, and the reward at the end is immense: the thunderous sound of water, the mist in the air, and the glacier looming in the background. For photographers, Nugget Falls offers endless possibilities. Wide-angle shots can capture the entire landscape—glacier, lake, and waterfall together—while closer perspectives allow for creative studies of the water’s movement and the textures of the surrounding rocks. Early mornings and evenings often bring softer light and fewer crowds, while cloudy days create moody, atmospheric conditions perfect for long exposures. Whether you’re visiting as a nature lover or with a camera in hand, Nugget Falls is an absolute highlight of Alaska’s natural beauty and a must-see stop in Juneau.
Paul P — Google review
It is an amazing experience. There are not many falls that you can actually go this close. Water is clean amazing picturesque views. Beautiful walk from parking lot. Highly recommended. We were lucky to get there on a beautiful day

The Alaska State Museum is a treasure trove of culture, history, and art that showcases the rich heritage of Alaska's diverse Native populations. Visitors can delve into exhibits that highlight native culture, natural science, and historical narratives. Families will appreciate the dedicated kids' section featuring a play area to keep young explorers engaged.
Such a great hidden gem of a museum. Loved the displays featuring not just modern Alaska as part of the US but also displays featuring the culture of the area from the various time periods when Russia controlled the area, the native peoples and tribes and how the history of the area has shaped what we see today. Thoroughly enjoyed this museum and will visit each time in the future to see the changing displays
Dave B — Google review
A wonderful museum with loads of information about the native peoples and the overall history of Alaska, good and bad. Allot enough time to take it all in; we were there ninety minutes; a few hours would not have been wasted. Nothing but praise for the good work done by this museum; the presentation and technology was terrific.
Dennis C — Google review
We took a quick visit before a whale watching tour, since we wanted to learn about the history of the area. I really enjoyed how it took you through time starting with the native people and their culture and artifacts, followed by the various modern colonizing groups and their effects on the area, and then into the eventual statehood of Alaska. There are multiple clean bathrooms, the museum is clean, perfectly lit, has a great layout, words are easy to read, the items on display are in wonderful condition and displayed well. There is a kids area with supplies to draw and make crafts as well as play on a ship. Overall it's a good experience that will take about 1 hour to get through. I would reccomend going her if you are in Juneau.
Jared — Google review
This museum takes you on a trip through Alaska's history and peoples, with well-organized exhibits. We were glad to see the emphasis on Alaska Native people. There was no evidence of editing history for political purposes. Four of us visited from our cruise ship for about an hour and a half. It was time well spent.
Jenny K — Google review
An incredible museum filled with Indigenous history, culture and arts and local art as well. We learned so much about the history of Indigenous tribes and their lives. I walked away with a deeper awareness and understanding of their diverse heritage and the beautiful ways they preserved the nature and connection with their land. Highly recommend! There is free parking and general admission for adults is $14. Free admission for up to 5 people if you are an active military member+family.
Jaja C — Google review
It was a nice museum, but REALLY dropped the ball when it came to the last section, the one I was most interested in, and looking forward to, the Geology. With how geology rich Alaska is, I could not believe they had basically NOTHING relating to volcanos, earthquakes, orology, samples of not only gold, but other minerals rich in the state. Glaciers, not a thing on glaciers at all. It was not worth the money I paid to get in, and they did not even give me the correct change back, did not notice until I got back on the ship. The coolest part of the whole thing were the massive ravens OUTSIDE the museum that a homeless man was feeding, they must have been about 3 feet tall!! I wish I had taken pictures of them, as they were not there when I left the museum. Take my $37 you did not give back from my $50 and use it improving your geological displays!
Valerie L — Google review
Another great museum with wonderful artifacts. Lots to learn. We enjoyed the visit. The staff was so nice. The facility is beautiful.
Sunshine — Google review
I spent 4 hours there, looked at everything, watched an artist make a real canoe, listened to all the documentaries, learned about first people face tattooing tradition, as well as the shawls they made to hold water ceremonies by the shore. I found out there are 11 different types of tribes living around Alaska region, and sometimes Russians would invade Alaska. This museum was fascinating and beautifully curated. I learned a ton speaking to the staff who were extremely knowledgeable and patient. Ticket was around $40? Can't remember exactly, very worth it.

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is a fascinating destination for those interested in the history of the city and its surroundings. The museum features permanent exhibits that delve into the historical significance of various aspects such as fishing, mining, skiing, politics, statehood, and native lifestyles. Additionally, it hosts temporary exhibits showcasing local artists and focusing on regional history and culture.
Wonderful, very inexpensive museum with lots to do for all ages. $7 for adults. Kids under 12 free. Seniors $6. Learn about the glacier, the mines, the geology, the arts in the town. Our 2 year old had a blast, but we enjoyed it as well. Bathrooms were clean and had cute local comics on the walls. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a nice museum right across the street from the State Capital Building. It is a smaller museum with information and artifacts about the history of the State of Alaska. They have a little gift shop and the staff are friendly.
Sharon D — Google review
Very nice and interesting museum that tells and displays the history of Juneau and Alaska! Very friendly, helpful and informative staff at the museum. Highly recommend visiting if you are around the area!
Hello N — Google review
Wonderful little place to learn about the history and progress of Juneau. Street parking only. Loved it.
Debra H — Google review
Friendly front desk staff and the museum is the perfect size to explore in an hour or so. It provides a historical ‘snapshot’ view of the area which is a nice foundation when visiting other sites. I especially liked learning about the push to move the capital to Willow. Highly recommend to pair a visit with a tour of the capitol building across the street. It has a tiny gift area, so you’ll want to do your souvenir shopping elsewhere if you want a range of items to choose from.
F P — Google review
he Museum is housed in the Veterans Memorial Building, built in 1950-51 (Classical Revival style), originally Juneau’s Memorial Library. It sits opposite the Alaska State Capitol. The museum packs in quite a lot within a modest space. Some highlights: General History Gallery — timeline of Juneau’s development, pioneer/immigrant stories, businesses and industries past & present. Tlingit Culture & Wood & Waterways — Tlingit canoe traditions, paddle types, and construction; also fishing methods. Life on the Water — relates to Juneau’s maritime lifestyle (ferries, steamships, shipwrecks, etc.). Politics, Personalities & Power — includes the story of how Alaska became a state, civil rights (Elizabeth Peratrovich), political developments, etc. A large relief map showing Juneau and its geography + changes (glacial retreat, shorelines) is especially engaging.
Paul P — Google review
A qaint little museum with very affordable gifts like enamel pins, art, and post cards. There is a fee of about $7 to walk around 5 rooms - One of them includes a movie. It was fascinating to learn about Jeaunu and the support within their community. For example, the museum exhibited Junaeu's school and performance hall. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable about Juneau. She directed me to shops I'd be intereted in like a pin store that was right around the corner.
Fluffy P — Google review
$7 ticket price, very simple museum if you're looking to get out of the cold and learn something about the town. It's a single storey homely museum of knick knacks collected locally. The video was very interesting.

Escape the crowds and find tranquility at the National Shrine of St. Thérèse, located "out the road." This serene site offers a peaceful environment for contemplation, with its beautiful stone church and 15 stations of the cross. Accessible via a 400-foot-long pedestrian causeway, it sits on a tiny island.
What a beautiful shrine a d surrounding property. There is a gravel lot for parking and a short steep trail down to the bathroom and retreat buildings. The bathrooms were heated and very clean, which was nice this time of year. Not far from that were some of the well maintained planting areas and the gift shop. But the real gem is the causeway to the island where the shrine to St Therese is. The walk is great out to the wooded island, with plenty of sea and land animals being seen to either side. Once you reach the island, there is a trail with a series of small shrines about the life of Jesus, statuary, and peaceful quiet. Inside the beautiful church is a guest book, a place to buy a Saint's pendant, and plenty of pews to sit in quiet reflection. I'm so glad we took the time to come out here as it was a highlight of our visit to Juneau.

Wow wow wow...I have been to Juneau 4 times and this was my first visit to the national shrine of st. Terese. 100% make the time to visit regardless of you religious beliefs. The nature you will see is exquisite! If you are Catholic, the walk with the stations of the cross is incredibly moving and will raise your spirit. The love meditation garden is lovely and I could not imagine not finding some inner peace during your visit. 100% visit!!
Bridget C — Google review
Absolutly fantastic place to visit while in Juneau. The history and peace of this place was a welcome break from the business of a cruise ship. Highly recommend.
Philip P — Google review
Very nice, beautiful and breathtaking place. We have good sunny weather and view was crazy good. If you visit in time when Salman at spawning you have grate chance to come really close and see it. This was grate time and opportunity to be there. If you on cruise jut rent a car and get here it worth it.
Andrey S — Google review
Such a beautiful location! Very well maintained and in an amazing location. There were marmots along the trail to the Shrine of St. Thérèse.
Molly G — Google review
There is an undescribable sense of peace. The church and grounds are well kept. Free public parking, short walk to the premises.
Yari D — Google review
The National Shrine of Saint Therese overlooks Lynn Canal and the Chilkat Mountains. It's situated on 46 acres. The site contains a stone chapel, crypt, labyrinth, columbarium, lodge, cabin, and retreat. We spent a few hours just exploring the property which is free to do. The chapel was closed so we did not go in it but we could walk around it. The gardens were beautiful and very peaceful. The website has all the information on the rentals.

History Museums
Located just north of Juneau's center, the Last Chance Mining Museum offers a glimpse into the city's mining past. Operated by the Gastineau Channel Historical Society, this museum showcases artifacts and equipment from the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company, which operated on the site from 1912 to 1944. Visitors can explore rusting buildings, old equipment, and mining cars while learning about hard rock gold mining.
Great museum for Juneau’s mining history. Be aware that it is not handicapped accessible. You must walk a trail and cross a foot bridge and hike up to the museum.
Olivia O — Google review
Such amazing information. The man that was volunteering had so much great information. We panned for gold in the stream. So relaxing and fun.
Shelley N — Google review
Just happened to visit the museum after a hike and loved it. Many mining related artifacts, friendly and helpful staff, and many more remnants of Juneau’s mining history. Beautiful location, but might be challenging for handicapped individuals to get to.
Devin B — Google review
It's a little challenging to get to, but there's great history of the area to be learned here. Other mine experiences charge $60 and up, whereas this is just $5. While it doesn't go into a mine, you get a great understanding of all the mining that went on in Juneau. Enjoy the drive in, the walk across the bridge, and all the ground. My family very much enjoyed our visit and we're glad we didn't pay $60 per person for the other mine experiences in town.
D S — Google review
Cute little museum ran by volunteers. $5 cash admission fee gets you in to see the impressive collection of mining equipment. Volunteers are very knowledgeable about the old ways of mining. Notable is the steep incline to get in either a walk up a gravel path or a large flight of stairs. Beautiful scenery all around makes it worth the trip!
Angel S — Google review
Cool little museum that appears to be family run. Emery for adults in $5 and we’re not charged for an 11 year old. Takes about 15 minutes to get through the museum. Best part was purchasing a plastic gold pan kit for $8 and then actually panning and finding gold flakes in the river below. Tip: Take taxi / ride share up to the mine and then walk back to town about 30 minutes, it’s beautiful.
Scott G — Google review
Great place to visit! My son really enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt to win a prize, and bought a gold panning kit. It was a fun and memorable experience!

Harv and Marv's Outback Alaska Whale Watching offers an unforgettable experience of witnessing humpback whales engaging in bubble net feeding, a highly skilled group feeding system. The tour takes visitors through the waterways of Southeast Alaska, where they have the chance to spot various marine creatures such as humpback whales, grey whales, fin whales, orcas, dolphins, sea lions, harbor seals, otters, and seabirds.
A wonderful experience thanks to a great crew Captain Dalton with naturalists Coral and Dane. They went above and beyond to give a great whale watching experience and remote lighthouse tour. Loved hearing the names for whales and all the details and seeing the sea lions. Lots of positive energy. Refreshments were also very generous and the boat was so nice. Brand new! Many thanks for everything!!!
Dee S — Google review
We had the BEST time with Captain Dalton, Coral, and Nick visiting the lighthouse and whale watching. The Beacon is a beautiful boat and felt very safe and cozy even on a rainy day. We enjoyed hanging out in the captains nest and were fortunate enough to see a whale breach very close to our boat. We were all in awe!! The crew was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about whales and whale watching which proved helpful throughout our whole trip. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting Juneau!
Aimee B — Google review
We are so happy to have had one of the best the experiences with Dale and Mandy, our crew with Harv and Marv’s. We were a group of 9 - the boat was the perfect size and we had a perfect waterline view of the water. We were supplied with beverages and light snacks (we brought our own alcohol beverages as you are able to). Dale was very experienced and gave us great information on all the wildlife. We saw whales and sea lions as well as bald eagles. Mandy was a fantastic captain - we would definitely book with them again!
Tracey C — Google review
Our whale watching trip with Captain Mandy and naturalist Morgan was the highlight of our week! Both of these ladies are absolutely exceptional and brought so much energy and excitement to this excursion. We were blessed to see many whales up close and personal. Our favorite whale Kelp gave us quite a show very very close to our boat. We witnessed bubble feeding, breaching, baby whales, as well as many harbor seals and even got to see an orca! Our group of 10 were so impressed with the knowledge Mandy and Morgan shared with us and it will forever be one of our favorite travel memories. I cannot highly recommend them enough. We were met right at the cruise ship dock and taken to our boat, and everyone was extremely professional! Don’t hesitate to book with Harv and Marv for an adventure of a lifetime. !
Barb P — Google review
Absolutely a fantastic excursion! Don’t even consider another company! Harv and Marv’s are the best! Our guide Dale and Captain Rich were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a blast! We were fortunate enough to see 21 different whales with 3 different “bubble feeding shows” which were epic and extremely rare! We saw sea lions, eagles and the glacier as well! Don’t even think about going with another company!
Craig P — Google review
We went on the whale watching tour in Juneau on 7/20/25. We had amazing weather and multiple whale sightings! In fact, we got to see orcas and humpbacks. The tour guides and the captain were all knowledgeable and fun! They seemed genuinely excited to see what we saw, which added additional joy to our day. The boat was incredibly comfortable and made it easy for everyone to see things. I would highly recommend booking this tour!
Shari K — Google review
We decided to book a small, private boat up to six seats total. They picked us up directly at our dock from our cruise ship and brought us on a bus to Lake Canal where we would meet our Captain - Captain Alan on the vessel, Obi-Wan. He was so great !! Very personable and so knowledgeable of all the whales that travel to Alaska. We learned that each whale is noticeable by their exact tale.. it is their own version of our “thumbprint.” We were quite lucky on our boat out.. we saw a whole fleet of about 20 Humpback Whales performing a feeding effort called, Bubble Netting. This is a “learned” technique that these whales have only been doing for about 40-50 years. We got to see a breed of Sea Lions called, Stellar Sea Lions. They are the largest of the sea lions. Males can get up to 2,500 pounds in weight. And lastly on our trip, we observed the trifecta - ORCAS !! Captain Alan had a hunch and ran with it - we traveled quite a ways out, but we were the only ones out there and it was so peaceful !! It felt like an experience we couldn’t even explain… we learned that the grandmother is the head of the family and everything they learn is from their mother or grandmother. They can live up to 80-85 years of age. It felt like we were watching Free Willy before our eyes ! All in all, book the small boat and do it with Harv and Marv tours ! They get between 30 minutes to an hour longer than the bigger boats and like us, can venture out farther and quicker. They go above and beyond for you as their customer and you really get the whole experience of Alaska !! It was a trip we won’t ever forget !! Thank you, Captain Alan!!

Coral and Ben did a fantastic job taking us on a private whale watching tour. Coral was so knowledgeable about these amazing animals and Ben was great at getting us near the whales. I took my first trip with Harv and Marv in 2008. Even though the original captains are not still sailing, the experience was still great. 100% recommend doing a small boat private tour!

Step into the Red Dog Saloon and be transported to a Western-style spot with pub eats, complete with swinging doors and a sawdust floor. This famous saloon has been in its current location since 1988, but it has a rich history of moving around over the years. The atmosphere is quirky and unique, featuring community singing and an old west meets Northern Exposure feel.
Stopped here on our way back to the cruise ship. Had the famous duck fart and they didn’t disappoint. Husband got fish and chips. He enjoyed very much. I had chowder and it was good with oyster crackers. Such a fun experience and great music!
Lori P — Google review
This is another place to set your expectations. You don't want to eat here. It's a fun tourist trap with live music and a cute saloon theme, including actual sawdust on the floor. The food is fair. Everyone comes for the Duck Fart. It's an odd shot, but I guess it works. The beer choices were good. I had a nice local beer-Red Dog Ale. My reindeer sausage was so bland I had to ask for mustard. The pizza was like a cheap frozen one. I guess it really had reindeer meat, but who could tell?? The service was good. The waitress did a great job of keeping up with the mob of tourists. Go for the fun, music and drinks.
Sunshine — Google review
Other than the atmosphere, I'm not sure where all the 5 star reviews are coming from! The food is your typical bar food, nothing out of the ordinary and definitely nothing top rated! The drinks were standard bar drinks and the duck farts were just like all the other duck farts I've had at all the other party places I've had them! We sat at the bar and the service was borderline rude, like we were bothering her or something. The place is super cool though with live music, 3-6 inches of sawdust on the floor and decor taking you back to the gold rush days. If there's a line out front, I can't say as it's worth the wait, there's way better places to eat and drink!
Cindy P — Google review
Fun place to stop, have a meal, do a duck fart shot, and see Wyatt Earp's pistol. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. You get a sense of going back a couple of decades in time. Service was very good. Standard tourist prices but not crazy expensive. The food is quality and bang for the buck (money). If I visit Juneau, the Red Dog will be on my list to stop.
Art — Google review
The Red Dog was highly recommended to us. We took a cruise to Alaska and the fish place we went. Not disappointed at all. The chowder was worth it alone. We got the "DUCK FART" shot. I got the Red Dog Beer and was very smooth. My wife got the Alaskan Kölsch Ale. I highly recommend this place. It's eclectic with live music that was amazing.

As close to an authentic late 19th century saloon as you will find. Great atmosphere, good beer, people that were eating appeared to relish their food. Fast, friendly service, expect to queue a little if there are several cruise ships disgorging several thousand visitors simultaneously

Atmosphere – 5 Stars Stepping into the Red Dog Saloon is like walking into the Old West. The place oozes character—sawdust on the floor, historical memorabilia everywhere, and a two-level layout with tables both downstairs and on a balcony overlooking the bar. There’s a lively energy throughout, complete with live entertainment from a piano player and singer that gives the place an authentic saloon feel. Service – 5 Stars The staff was dressed in period costumes, adding to the immersive, frontier-style experience. Our server was friendly, quick, and attentive—service couldn’t have been better. Food – 4 Stars The food was delicious and memorable. I had the McKinney Pork Sandwich, which came topped with coleslaw and provolone cheese on a toasted bun—easily one of the best pork barbecue sandwiches I’ve had. It was flavorful, perfectly balanced, and came with a bag of chips. We also tried the clam chowder, which was rich, hearty, and filled with chunky pieces of fish. Another highlight was the Nunivak Reindeer Sandwich, served on a toasted baguette with grilled onions and provolone cheese—a savory, hearty option that looked and tasted like a gourmet kielbasa sandwich. Overall The Red Dog Saloon is an experience as much as it is a meal. Between the historic atmosphere, engaging entertainment, standout service, and flavorful food, we had a fantastic time. Definitely a must-visit when in Juneau.

Loud, crowded, and lots of fun!!! Food is absolutely scrummy! Gotta try the duck fart shot, too! Crown, Baileys and Kahlua....just superb! While it took awhile to get our order taken...it was served up quick and hot. This place got very busy with cruise ships in dock and excursions coming to an end. Main floor and loft seating to help accommodate larger number of patrons.

The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center is a modern facility offering interpretive exhibits and souvenirs related to the famous glacier. Situated amidst stunning natural beauty, the center provides breathtaking views of the thirteen-mile-long river of ice, blue icebergs in Mendenhall Lake, and the vast Juneau Ice Field. Visitors can learn about the glacier's story from U.S. Forest Service Rangers, explore state-of-the-art exhibits, and watch a film about Tongass National Forest and its glaciers.
Beautiful place to visit. The visitor center is an awesome building with mid century design and architecture. The rangers are helpful and informative. And of course the sights and natural setting are the highlight of the stop. There are easy walks as well as longer trails to see the glacier and waterfalls from various points. It is well worth visiting if you’re in the area. Read up on the available literature and websites to see what exactly you want to do but definitely make sure to stop here!

4 Stars – Beautiful Glacier Experience with Some Limitations We visited the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center as part of a cruise excursion, and overall it was a memorable stop. The visitor center itself is very well done, full of fascinating exhibits, interactive displays, and helpful rangers who provide great insight into the glacier’s history and the surrounding environment. It’s definitely worth spending some time inside before or after exploring the trails. There are three main hiking trails, and we were able to complete two of them during our visit. The most popular trail leads to a stunning waterfall, which was one of the highlights of the day. Standing so close to the powerful rush of water was amazing, and the hike itself was easy and accessible. Just keep in mind that from the waterfall viewpoint you’ll see very little of the glacier’s face, so don’t expect a dramatic glacier backdrop from that angle. One thing to note is that the glacier has receded quite a bit over the past decade, and while it’s still impressive, it’s not quite as massive or striking as older photos might lead you to believe. That said, it’s still a remarkable sight. When we visited, it was both rainy and very crowded, which made it a little less enjoyable. Be prepared for unpredictable weather and large groups, especially if you’re visiting during cruise ship season. Despite those challenges, Mendenhall Glacier is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Juneau. The combination of the visitor center, easy-to-access trails, and natural beauty makes it a must-see stop, even if the glacier itself isn’t as commanding as it once was.

This area is beautiful and peaceful. We went on Saturday so the visitor center itself was closed, but the museum and bathrooms were open. There are many paths that can be taken and one leads to an amazing view of the waterfall and glacier. It is about 2 miles back and forth plus more for any other path in the area. All worth the fun walk around. It is not super strenuous.

Great hiking experience in Juneau. The trail is well maintained, I recommend layering up and comfortable hiking boots. Casual 3.5 mile trail was a lot of fun! Be ready for those steps though! Bring your own snacks but PLEASE don't litter. have fun!

Visiting Mendenhall Glacier was nothing short of magical! From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by the stunning beauty of Alaska’s wild landscape. The glacier itself is absolutely majestic, framed by snow-capped mountains that looked like something out of a postcard. The weather was perfect—clear skies and just the right amount of cool breeze made it easy to take in the views without any rush. One of the highlights of our visit was spotting bald eagles soaring gracefully above the trees and perched nearby. It felt like something out of a nature documentary! Their presence added a special sense of awe to the already breathtaking surroundings. A short hike led us to Nugget Falls, and wow—what a powerful and refreshing sight! The waterfall thunders down right next to the glacier and offers incredible photo ops. Standing near the base of the falls, with the glacier in the background, was one of the most memorable moments of our trip. If you’re planning a trip to Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier is a must-see. With its combination of glaciers, waterfalls, wildlife, and mountain views—all wrapped in beautiful weather—it’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommend!

Mendenhall Glacier and Visitor Center is a must-see destination just a short drive from downtown Juneau. The glacier is absolutely stunning, offering breathtaking views and an unforgettable Alaskan experience. The visitor center provides excellent educational displays, friendly staff, and a warm space to take in the glacier view. A highlight is the 1-mile nature trail leading to Nugget Falls, which offers fantastic photo opportunities and a close-up view of both the waterfall and the glacier. It’s a great activity for families, with an easy and scenic walk through the forest. While parking is limited and it can get busy—especially when cruise ships are in port—the natural beauty more than makes up for it. Arrive early or later in the day for fewer crowds. Mendenhall is one of Alaska’s most accessible glaciers and well worth the visit. Truly a destination stop for anyone exploring the Juneau area!

We went in September. We took bus to the outside of the park..it took about 30 min to walk to the park entrance and see the glacier. You can walk down to the water, but not actually on the glacier. We also went to the falls which was another 30 mins. It was awesome though. This walk is not just a casual stroll even though the paths are concrete. Walking into the park, walking around to falls, then out to bus stop is probably 6 miles. (Or so it seemed). It's all worth it though.
AJ — Google review
It's located 2nd floor, you have the option of elevator or steps. Has useful information, displays and rangers are present to explain glacier history and answer your questions regarding the same. Nugget falls is 1 mile hike (one way from here), photo point is about .3 miles (oneway) You will experience the most beautiful falls if you do plan to hike ( mostly flat).

Eaglecrest Ski Area is a hidden gem nestled in the mountains of Douglas Island, just a short drive from downtown Juneau, Alaska. This community-owned and operated ski resort offers 640 skiable acres with 36 runs catering to all skill levels. With four chairlifts and stunning ocean views from the slopes, it's a paradise for both locals and visitors. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, winter activities include snowshoeing and Nordic skiing.
Great place for skiing and snowboarding. Prices are fantastic compared to other ski resorts. Instructors are great. My 6 year old learned to ski her first day of lessons and was taking the lift on her own by week 2. I like that on the smallest lift the kids can give a thumbs down if they need the lift slowed or stopped for loading and unloading. I'll also note that here are rarely lines at any of the lifts. Grill is convenient for days when you don't pack a lunch. But we usually bring food and hot cocoa ourselves. Gear rentals are much more inexpensive than expected. And gear is much better quality. Well taken care of. If you're new to skiing or snowboarding, definitely take advantage of the 3 day lessons. The cost is cheaper than just renting gear and buying lift tickets for the 3 days.

Hike the ridge and ski West Bowl if it is open. East Bowl held the most pow. What a great friendly underrated resort. Free with my powder alliance pass from a partner resort. Pack your own lunch. Lodge food was so so and a pain. Just pack a lunch. Also beer is from a disconnected tent nowhere near food service.....weird. the skiing was amazing and worth it. Spend a few days here to figure out the area and know where you want to ski on day 2 or 3 of your journey.

Beautiful view! Easy enough to hike up gravel road before its covered in snow. Our family went for the first time recently and even our 8 yr old made it to the top without any issues. Be prepared with water, chapstick, gloves, walking sticks or ski poles, dress in warm layers, binoculars and an empty bladder. Lol.

February 2020/2021. What a delight this place is. Truly spectacular. If you're lucky enough to catch this place on a bluebird, you'll be able to see as far as the eye can see. East Bowl and West bowl are where the best runs are at. However, if you come on a powder day, you'll be sure to enjoy every run on the mountain. I've been snowboarding a lot of places in North America, and maybe 1 or 2 are as unique as this place (Canadian Rockies). Here, the runs are shorter but the pow is so much deeper. Can't wait to be back this winter when I'm visiting family.

My first time skiing, ever, was a wet day on the mountain. But - my instructor was funny, the burger was tasty, and the company was great. Loved it and will totally be back! Third snowboarding lesson today and it could not have been a better day!!

Eaglecrest is the perfect place to go if you’re located in SE Alaska. You can get great deals on lift tickets. For example: if you fly to Juneau on Alaska airlines you can show that boarding pass and you get a free day pass. They have easy, medium and difficult runs. Runs that are well groomed, ones that aren’t, ones with lots of winds and turns, ones that are straight or narrow. Only thing I wish they would do is upgrade their lifts. They’re slow and not super comfortable. By time you make it to the top you’re frozen… but you’ll have great views!

In the summer, visitors can witness salmon returning to the hatchery for spawning and observe them through an underwater viewing window. The hatchery features a diverse aquarium with over 150 native Alaskan marine species. Outside, guests can capture memorable photos with fish visible behind glass panels.
Super fun and educational for the kids showing every step in the migration of salmon from egg to hatching and imprinting, swim to sea and return to spawn. Nice visitor center and aquarium. Great fishing on dock next to hatchery

What a great tour and learning center. The mission of the non profit organization is "to sustain and enhance the valuable Salmon resources" and THE really do that mission. They spawn, fertilize, and hatch MILLIONS of eggs from all 5 salmon species. They don't waste the fish as they sell the bodies for packing and to add as a revenue stream for the operations. Everybody wins. They even allow fishing right before their return fish ladders. As Salmon released from here return to spawn they have Thousands of returning fish each season. They offer a "Hands on" tank for other sea creatures like crabs and star fish. Take the kids as this program is for all ages.

The Alaska State Capitol is a prominent feature in Juneau's skyline, with its grand marble-pillared structure occupying an entire city block. The city itself is rich in artistic expression, boasting numerous art museums, galleries, murals, and statues showcasing the work of local artists. Public art can be found throughout the city, including totem poles and murals depicting cultural and historical themes.
This is an awesome capitol building. You're able to view just about every single office. Very welcoming unlike my home state capitol... awesome history in the walls like old newspapers and such. Maybe an hour to do a self guided tour. Very short walk if you're a cruise passenger. Lots of great photo opportunities.

Is this building the most beautiful, architecturally attractive and aesthetically pleasing state capitol? Not by a long shot. However, its uniqueness of being “just another historical building” and ease of access in the heart of Juneau makes it worthy of visiting. Start from the 5th floor by using the wood adorned elevators and work your way down, all while seeing the house and senate chambers, Governor’s Office and offices that allow you to visit. I was pleasantly surprised to run into a staffer for a state senator and she gave tailored recommendations for what to do in the area and history of the state and what her job entails and the government construct of the 49th state. It’s people like her that really made the visit worthwhile. Definitely worth checking out if you have the time.

Lovely stop in Juneau. Spent about an hour wandering around. It's a great place to go for some history of Alaska and see some beautiful Art Deco architecture. And to the person who puts out the tiny trinkets for kids to find (and the gentleman who told us about them), thank you! The hiking area Mt. Roberts Trailhead is a great place to hike and see the city from behind. It's a pretty easy hike, depending on your shape, and there are usually few people there so you get plenty of time to enjoy it alone. If you want to take the tram down for $10, it's an amazing way to finish the hike!
Steep and muddy trail where we had to watch our step carefully. Beautiful temperate rainforest with lots of spruce, hemlocks, and green moss and ferns. It took less than two hours to get from the trail head at Basin Road to the Mount Roberts Gold Belt Tram.

We decided to walk up Mt Roberts and take the Tram down. We did have tickets for unlimited rides so it wasn't that I was cheap....it was for the views and healthful exercise. What a beautiful trail. At first, it is hard to think that it is rainforest especially since we saw snow capped mountains and even walked through snow as we read the lodge at the top. It was easier if you stick to the main trail but you could take some trails that cut distance out.

It was a beautiful 22’c summers day, so we decided to do the hike up to the upper tram station. Note: June & July you may need to pack your mosquito repellent! It’s a very quick but steep walk from downtown up to the place where the trail starts - you could take an Uber if you wanted to safe energy for the hike. The whole trail is well laid out and well signed. And it felt very safe too. We passed several people doing the walk in the opposite direction. I’m not sure which is easier/ better as it’s a constant incline and muddy / slippery in places. It’s an absolute gorgeous hike through the pine forests with all the lush green undergrowth. There are several stopping spots with benches, and a few view points too. It took us 90 min to do the complete walk from Downtown. There were tons of mosquitoes and we were so glad we had packed the Deet mosquito repellent, otherwise we’d have been eaten alive! Apparently mid June - end July is mosquito season, so be prepared. We reached the top and had some well deserved refreshing beverages at the restaurant. Be sure to keep your receipts from the Cafe/ Restaurant/ gift shop for your free tram ride down - you need a combined spend of $20 per person to qualify. The price for a one way ticket down is $20 per person anyway, so it’s a no brainier. You queue for the tram and when the person come round to check tickets you just need to show your receipts to prove your spend. A wonderful experience, and highly recommended!

Such a great place! The park is nicely done with signs explaining the history of this place, and the facilities are well kept. It was beautiful and quiet, which was so nice. Keith S — Google review
As a lifelong Juneauite, I thought I knew the Treadwell story pretty well—but this tour absolutely blew me away. Walking the historic trails with someone who can bring the ruins to life through stories, old photos, and little-known details was incredible. I’ve driven past that area for years without realizing just how much history is tucked into the woods and shoreline. The guide did such a great job weaving together the human side of the mining days—the families, the culture, the sheer scale of what was once the largest gold mine in the world. Standing among the moss-covered foundations and picturing what it looked like 100+ years ago gave me a whole new appreciation for our community’s roots. Even though I’ve lived here my whole life and my own family roots in Alaska stem from the Klondike, I left the tour feeling like I’d discovered something brand new in my own backyard. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, this is hands-down one of the best ways to experience Juneau’s history. I can’t recommend it enough.
Jen L — Google review
If you’re into the history of abandoned places, this will be your thing. I felt like everywhere I walked or looked, there was just random pieces of rusted metal and machinery to be found, all of which tell a story. I only explored a little bit of the trail system, and managed to see so many different things. I learned a lot, and I’m eager to go back. What astonished me the most was finding hundreds of pieces of dining plates and china all over the beach, 100 years later. I couldn’t believe how much of this “community” still remained after all that time. Throw in the astounding beauty of the mountains and wildlife that surrounds, and you’ve got yourself one special spot.

This is a really great park. It's both an historical park with signage about the Treadwell Mine and a Frisbee golf course . The trails are wide and easily walkable. You can enter the park at the Sandy Beach entrance and the historical markers will start at marker #1, or you can go one street up and enter at Saint Anne's Avenue but there's very limited parking there and the 1st sign you'll reach is number 7. You can pick up a description of each of the stops and and a walking map that shows how they are all numbered at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, the Alaska State Museum, or the Perseverance Museum for $2. Ask for the walking tour map and historic guide to the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail. If you don't have the walking tour map then most although not all of the stops do have very informative signs that you can read along the trail. The historic trail is free and it is a very nice walk.

The Hangar On The Wharf is a popular spot in Juneau, housed in a converted 1930s airplane hangar on an old wooden pier. It offers a diverse menu and over 20 beers on tap. Visitors can enjoy their drinks while taking in the stunning views of the harbor and surrounding peaks from the balcony. The venue also serves freshly caught seafood such as halibut, king crab, and wild salmon year-round.
Such an amazing experience! After so many days of cruise buffet food and tourist traps, this place was legit. Everything is homemade. The portions are perfect, above average. The quality is very high. It's a very convenient walk from the cruise ports. It's in a building with other businesses, it seemed a little odd getting there. But once you're there, it is beautiful, great experience and pictures. The food though, amazing! I got a burger and the shrimp and washed down with the grasshopper mint chocolate chip pie, which I can't explain how good it was. The decor, was all of aviation and so many plane tanking from the ceiling. The view was breathtaking as you get to see all the mountains right out the big windows. The Hanger is a must, you'll be happy that you did.

Located in the heart of Juneau, next to port where usually Quantam of the seas docks in the blue colored building next to it. This is a busy place and usually there is a wait about 20 mins. We ordered lazy suzy, king crab, fettuccine and the soup. The soup was delicious and savory. The highlight is the crab meat, very fresh. Visit if you can and support local business

Visiting. Abby was an absolute gem! We sat by the bar and were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery from our seats. The establishment is ADA friendly (ample space for my husband to navigate his electric wheelchair) and has a very cool vibe. We ordered the oysters, Caesar salad, wings, and pretzels. All were great choices.

Beautiful view! Good food. Good beer selection. Ended up here after a local said she eats here weekly. It is a great place. There was a 20-minute wait for a table, but the bar was open. The bartender was on top of things! He had the order in fast and correctly. The bar ended up being a nice place to chat with more locals! I had the salmon burger. Excellent!!! The only ding was the sweet potato fries. You have to pay more for them, and they were soggy. They were still tasty. There are pool tables upstairs if you have time to play.

The line is long, but definitely worth it! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was amazing. I tried the “chowder of the day,” made with halibut and salmon. It was the best chowder I’ve had in Alaska—so creamy and flavorful. It came with sourdough bread and crackers. The garlic-flavored bread was served hot, which made it even better. Overall, I had a wonderful lunch and would highly recommend this place.
Sae K — Google review
I really enjoyed the crab here and the salmon soup. I didn’t think the salmon soup in the bread bowl was going to be that good but it was honestly the best thing on the menu besides the crab. I also tried some of the shrimp but those were just so so. The prices were reasonable for Alaska, especially in a tourist area. We sat outside and got a great view of some of the sea planes landing. It was a perfect evening and the weather was just right in early September. It’s in a short walk from the cruise ships and there are buses. That’ll take you back-and-forth to the downtown area. I definitely recommend checking out this area even if you don’t eat at this restaurant, but if you do it at this restaurant, then you’ll enjoy the food because it was very delicious.
J T — Google review
Great atmosphere! Watched planes landing and taking off on the water. We ordered the seafood chowder and the grilled salmon. Salmon was way over cooked, dry and leathery. Sent it back to the chef, the second one was better, but not great.

Aug 2, 2025 we went to Juneau to Celebrate our 45th Wedding anniversary. Every year we choose a different restaurant and fly there. We had a few choices in Juneau but settled on The Hanger. They did not disappoint! No, it’s not a fancy dress up place or even very romantic unless you love Airplanes as much as I do! After 45 years, I think my wife and I have figured it out. I had the Grilled Halibut, she the Macadamia crusted Halibut and the consensus was….. Fresh Halibut should be eaten simply grilled with butter! Don’t get me wrong, she also enjoyed the Macadamia, however it masked the wonderful flavor of the Halibut. Oh yeah, we also ordered 1 pound of King Crab just to top it all off. Delicious. We had reservations for a window with a view, which we showed up a bit early for, but within 15 minutes we were at our table enjoying the view. “Tag Teamed” by a Mother and Daughter waitress team, (Sorry you guys I didn’t write down your names but I’m sure the establishment can get you the accolades you deserve). We were never without great service and they didn’t even know it was a special occasion! Once Mom found out, she removed the Cream Brule from our ticket even though I insisted she didn’t. Make a reservation, however they wait isn’t bad if you don’t and the Bar is always open!!! Worth any wait. Thanks again John & Trish Tempe, Arizona

The Goldbelt Tram in Juneau offers an exciting aerial tramway ride above the Southeast Alaska rainforest to the 1800-foot level of Mount Roberts. Adorned with traditional Tlingit artwork, the tram provides fantastic views of Juneau's picturesque capital city from Shaa Hit, the Mountain House at the top. Despite potentially cloudy and rainy weather, visitors can enjoy beautiful views during this approximately 5-minute journey.
Absolutely awesome tram! Tickets are $60 good for the entire day. You can go up and down as much as you want. There are some excellent trails at the top of the tramway. There’s also a really good restaurant and a little pub in the woods called the trail house. Definitely worth your time. Give yourself about three hours to do everything. Well worth the trip.
Jason P — Google review
I really didn't want to spend $60 per person to ride up just to take pics, but my partner insisted and paid. Okay fine, I'll go. The ride is about 3-5 minutes long each way. The tram operator gave us a monotone spiel about the lift and area, it was pretty funny. Once up there, the views are awesome. It was a clear day so our pics came out great. The gift shop had an end-of-season sale with everything 50% off. We checked out the bald eagle that's in captivity due to its injury. I've never seen one up close so that was cool. There are several short hiking trails as well. Our friends stayed for a live performance in the theater by some native tribes which they didn't care for. OVERALL: The pricey tickets are good for the entire day, but I'm not sure why you'd go up and down more than once. The view was awesome but that's about it.
Maui T — Google review
We came here when it was rainy, and its still took our breaths away. This tram experience gave us the opportunity to check out a higher elevation. All the staff were very friendly, they had a woodcarver, a movie and it's all around a fun experience.
Dannie M — Google review
The price of this activity is so exorbitant that I couldn’t give it more than three stars. I guess cruise passengers are fish in a barrel, and if people will spend it… Value wise - this is really just a ride up the hill. What you get for your ticket are hiking trails and a couple of viewing stations. There is also a gift shop, a snack shack, and a restaurant. There might have been a movie to watch? If you love a good tourist trap, or must see the views, don’t hesitate!
Krystal W — Google review
Nice view of the city. Once at the top there are restrooms, a gift shop, a restaurant, and trails. The trail that leads to the cross is up hill, but the view is spectacular once you get to the top.
Andrea W — Google review
Took the tram up the mountain in August '22 and September '25. In 2022, there were 6 ships docked and the crowd and lines were awful (this is no fault of the tram operator). End of the 2nd week in September, not bad at all. Very nice to be able to see views of Juneau, Douglas Island and Gastineau Channel all the way to Stephens Passage.
Steve P — Google review
I'm guessing our experience was better than others. The cost was much less because we booked it through NCL. There's a $50 credit per tour that applies to the first guest through the "More at Sea" package. You'll also get Latitude Reward discounts depending on your tier. It somehow ended up costing less than $20 for both of us. It's also an all day pass, so you can go up & down as many times as you want. We were one of the first in line that morning. There were only 8 people in front of us. We watched as they were taking the staff up to the shop & resraurants. Before long, it was our turn. The tram was pretty packed with lots of standing room and very few seats. I chose to be on the outer edge with a great view. The climb is steep, and you do go straight up like an elevator for that last push to the top. To be honest, I've been on much higher gondolas (to the top of the Zugspitze near Garmisch). The Goldbelt Tram was an easy ride compared to that. I did like the commentary along the way. It was nice to hear fun facts & history as you're taking in the view of the channel and forest below. There is a gift shop, restaurant, bar, and theater as you get to the top. We opted to take on the Alpine Loop Trail early. We also made sure to stop at the Chilkat Theater to view the "Seeing Daylight" documentary. Don't miss that viewing. It's part of the whole experience. It really puts everything into perspective about the land and its people (Tlinget) who have lived here for centuries. You'll see an ongoing theme as you explore other Alaskan towns. It really ties it all together. We didn't get to try the restaurants. We thought it best to explore Downtown Juneau and the waterfront instead. It was a good decision. It was all very memorable! I'd love to do it all again.
Karen V — Google review
Amazing views from the top. The trail is very easy walk but can be slippery when raining. Definitely spend a little time in the gift store area and watch the short show about the tram and area.

Juneau Tours and Whale Watch offers a chance to witness the majestic humpback whales during their migration season. The guided tours not only provide an opportunity to see these magnificent creatures but also include visits to the State Capitol building, historic sites, and local landmarks. With various tour options available, including whale watching-only tours and land and sea excursions, visitors can choose experiences that suit their preferences.
We had an unforgettable experience with Juneau Tours and Whale Watch on a stunning September day in Juneau. The tour took place aboard one of their newer boats, which was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped for wildlife viewing. With 40 passengers and a fantastic 3-person crew—Captain Ben, Sarah, and Noah—we felt safe, informed, and thoroughly entertained. All three crew members were seasoned professionals, but special kudos go to Sarah, whose passion for Alaska and the whales was infectious. She shared fascinating stories and facts, blending her personal background with deep local knowledge in a way that made the entire trip even more meaningful. It took a little time to reach the whales, but the wait was absolutely worth it. We ended up seeing about 6 of the 9 whales spotted that day—an incredible experience! The crew was respectful of wildlife regulations, keeping a 1,000-yard distance to ensure the whales’ safety and comfort, which we really appreciated. As a bonus, we also got a breathtaking view of Mendenhall Glacier from the water—a perfect addition to the tour. Overall, this was a highlight of our Alaskan adventure. The tour was well-organized, informative, and exciting from start to finish. Definitely well worth the money. Highly recommended!

Captain Mac and crew Jayden and Calvin were fantastic! Very knowledgeable and we saw whales within minutes of leaving the harbour. It was late in the season so we were nervous we might not see any. They took us straight to the best locations and we saw whales barnacles, Sasha and her calf Cha Cha. Great tour, also the views of the glaciers and mountain ranges.

Wonderful experience - saw 4 humpbacks, including one about 25 yds away, in early October. Surrounded by perfect scenery. Boat was good size: even with a full boat there was room for everyone to have a good view. Wonderful crew - Knowledgeable, kind, fun, and had a knack for maximizing your time with the whales before moving on to find another whale.

Great tour. Ford was extremely informative. Ben explained everything clearly and it was nice for the captain to address the group. Owen was also amazing. Highly recommend this tour! We got to see several whales and two eagles. Mary was also an excellent driver and informative. Super cool, great crew!

We did the whale watching and glacier tour with guides Owen, Ben and Carrie, which was great!!! The team were very welcoming, knowledgeable about whales and the surrounding area, a good laugh and very professional. We were able to see a few whales and the glacier in the background was very beautiful. The tour was punctual (12:30), 100% recommended

We were NOT on a Cruise Ship, just a vacation to Juneau. We booked Direct, but through there broker on the dock. We got a GREAT price after chatting a bit. Probably one of the best whale watching experiences we’ve had. We saw plenty of Maui, but Juneau did not disappoint. Neither did Mia, Nate and Captain Dustin. Fantastic crew very knowledgeable. The boat was extremely modern only one year old very very comfortable. Dustin put us on the whales and put us in the best position to get some great tail shots. We were fortunate enough to see Sasha and her baby performing for us with some awesome breaches and even a nice wave goodbye. You won’t regret this adventure.
John D — Google review
Captain Brenden, deck crew Noah and Hailey made a life changing day for us! They took us whale watching and instead of stopping at the one whale they went further. We saw a group of over 20 hump backs bubble net feeding! Insanity! I would recommend this group to anyone! So fun and knowledgeable! Jason was a great driver for our transportation to each destination and back to downtown. He was on time fun and full of knowledge. Great experience!

Mac, Noah and Ethan were amazing! Juneau Tours and Whale Watch were the best tour company. Noah was outgoing and is such a people person! Mac was personable and a great captain! He was able to get us close to the whales and sea lions! Would recommend this tour company to anyone hoping to hop onto a whale watch tour in Juneau, Alaska. Thank you guys again for an incredible experience!

Wings Airways & the Taku Glacier Lodge offer an unforgettable experience in Juneau, Alaska. Wings Airways provides scenic flights over the city and surrounding natural wonders like mountains and ice fields. Visitors can opt for a 40-minute flightseeing tour or the Flight and Feast Tour, which includes dining at a historic lodge.
The 5 glacier flight was truly one of the best experiences I've had in my lifetime. I enjoyed it so much, I went right back to the desk and did another flight. To see the 5 glaciers from the air is about 100x better than viewing them from the leading edge of the glacier. The flight itself was very smooth for a smaller plane. Awesome pilots and friendly staff. My advice, do it twice from each side of the plane.
David F — Google review
Recently did the Taku Lodge excursion and this was the best excursion by far. Some people may find pricey but you get what you pay for. The views from the plane are magnificent and jaw dropping! The meal you get is 2nd to none and you don't leave hungry. The staff were informative and very nice. We felt right at home and didn't want to leave. We would do this again in a heartbeat! We were nervous because we were never in a smaller plane but our pilot Dave was great. The only complaint was I wasn't picked for the front seat but you win some and loose some! Outstanding adventure!
Rich P — Google review
An amazing experience. I appreciate the work and experience and know how that went into loading me and my friends onto that amazing aircraft and lofting us in short order over some of the most awesome scenery I can imagine. Within minutes of the engine stopping we in a tranquil paradise, with a homely and historic lodge waiting with a hearty meal. We kept looking out the window, and yes! There is still a GLACIER out the window! Soho Salmon BBQ on an alder wood grill. While serving it up Hans the bear rolls up and licks the grill clean… Back on the awesome Otter and the surprise of more and different astonishing scenery on the way back. I felt quite some regret at my second water landing, the experience was over. Absolutely brilliant! Thank you, and long may this operation continue.

The glacier flightseeing is amazing, but it pales in comparison to the people of Wings Airways. We tried to book this tour through our cruise line and they said it was not an accessible tour. I Googled and figured out the tour operator and called them directly. I spoke to Mikayla (sp?) and she said of course they could accommodate someone with mobility issues and in a wheelchair. Went back to the cruise line and they wouldn’t book the tour for us so I called back and booked directly. We saved money and took the same van from the cruise ship dock. From the folks meeting us at the ship to the people checking us in for our flight to the pilot and the guys helping my husband board the plane, they were so accommodating and caring and I was touched at the way we were treated. I was thrilled we could make this tour happen. It was the highlight of our Alaska trip (the weather was exceptionally cooperative 😊) and I highly recommend the company, the people and the tour!!

I cannot say enough about Wings Airways and the overall experience they provided. I was set on doing a seaplane tour while docked in Juneau in June. My husband wasn’t interested so I let it go. But, watching the planes take off while we walked around I said, “I have to do it.”. I saw they had a 5 Glacier Seaplane Exploration Tour departing at 10:30am, so I went directly to the office, which is conveniently located at the end of the dock. At the time, they weren’t able to fit me in for that flight. The problem was that our ship was departing at 1pm, so 10:30 was really my only option. The amazing woman in the office told me to hang in the vicinity and if others come in or call to book she will find me. She kept her word and came running super excited to tell me I’m in! I will forever appreciate that. The experience on the plane was absolutely incredible. Like, no words incredible. The pilot was amazing, and the views were jaw dropping. It was quite a smooth flight, too. When I look back at the pictures and videos it doesn’t seem real, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. Not only is their price reasonable, you don’t have to get in a bus and go somewhere to take off either. I need to get back so I can experience the lodge! 10/10 HIGHLY recommend Wings Airways.
Noelle P — Google review
What an amazing trip! The weather was perfect and the views were spectacular! The Taku lodge has been one of my favorite tours since moving here and I got to take my family today who absolutely loved it as well! The staff are always so nice from the office booking tickets and the amazing crew out at the lodge thank you all so so so much for making this day one of the best we have had while in Juneau!

During our visit to Juneau last week, we took the 5 Glacier Flight Seeing Tour, a recommendation from a friend who called it a “must do,” and they were absolutely right! The experience was incredible. Seeing the glaciers and the breathtaking beauty of Juneau from above is truly mind blowing. Big shout out to our pilot, Brett, who made everyone feel comfortable and safe while giving us an unforgettable ride. Another huge plus is the location. Wings Airways is right in the harbor, just a short walk from the cruise ships. No need to cram into a big tour bus and take a long drive before your adventure begins. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Juneau!

Savikko Park, also known as Sandy Beach or Boot Leg Beach, is located on Douglas Island across the Gastineau Channel from the cruise ship docks. It offers stunning views and a peaceful beach walk where visitors can spot jellyfish washed up on the shore or floating in the water. The park also features historical tours of the gold mining town of Treadwell, providing insights into its rise and fall.
Tour of the location of the gold mining town of Treadwell, AK, ca. 1880-1922. Travis, guide and owner of "Treadwell Alaska's Lost Mine Tour", grew up here and told us of the history, success, and ultimate failure of the mining operations, which ended the largest town in the area at the time. Assisted by IPads with gallery photos and virtual replacements of buildings on site made for an interesting and informative tour. Nice, level walk thru lovely, now forested park.

Absolutely stunning views for an out of towner like me. Great place to practice photography and go for a decent walk. It would be fun to come at different times to see the changes in the water and seasons. Not too many bald eagles here on this day. Lovely wave-free, swimming pool-like northern beach. Excellent place for paddle boarding (especially interesting around Mayflower Island), picnicking, hiking, and bonfires. Family-friendly, basic but clean restrooms, playground, shelters, free parking, mussels and bald eagles galore. Dog-friendly. Very popular with the locals. Sandy Beach (A.K.A. Cope Park, located just a mile from Mount Robert's Tramway in Juneau, is a recently renovated park offering something for everyone. The park features well-maintained trails, a new playground with unique attractions like a merry-go-round and massive swing set, and brand new tennis courts. Families can enjoy the picturesque landscapes at the playground and picnic area for a relaxing day out.
A nice walk here from the cruise dock. Super peaceful park with courts, playgrounds, restrooms, a trail, and a creek. A lot of stairs from the city side. I suggest you to go around for the Governor’s mansion to avoid all the stairs
Yinzú N — Google review
Cope Park is a charming riverside retreat nestled in the heart of Juneau. Just minutes from downtown, it offers a peaceful escape framed by lush rainforest and the soothing sounds of Gold Creek rushing alongside its shaded walking paths. With its crystal-clear turquoise waters and dense greenery, the park provides a perfect spot for a quiet stroll, photography, or simply a breath of fresh air. Though compact, the setting feels immersive and calming—ideal for families, solo visitors, or anyone looking to take in a bit of nature without venturing far from the city center. What sets Cope Park apart is its impressive range of amenities packed into a relatively small space. Visitors will find picnic shelters, public restrooms, a playground, fenced dog park, basketball and pickleball courts, a disc golf hole, and even a pump track for bikers. This blend of natural serenity and recreational variety makes the park a versatile destination for all ages. Whether you’re traveling with kids, walking your dog, or looking to shoot hoops or toss a frisbee, there’s something here for everyone. One of the park’s biggest advantages is its accessibility. Located near public transit and cruise ship docks, it’s an easy stop for tourists and locals alike. Its pet-friendly policy is a bonus, especially for those traveling with dogs who want a safe off-leash area. The atmosphere remains generally relaxed, even on busier days, and the open hours—from early morning to midnight—make it convenient for flexible visits. That said, Cope Park does have its limitations. The trails, while scenic, are short and flat—so hikers looking for more challenging or mountainous terrain may find it underwhelming. Additionally, while the facilities are sufficient, they’re fairly basic; you won’t find on-site food vendors, so it’s best to bring your own snacks or water. During peak cruise ship hours, the park’s open lawns and limited parking may feel a bit crowded, though never overwhelmingly so. Overall, Cope Park is a lovely blend of urban convenience and natural beauty. It’s not a place for wilderness adventures, but rather a tranquil, community-centered green space that serves as a refreshing stop in downtown Juneau. Whether you’re visiting for 30 minutes or a couple of hours, it’s well worth a detour.

So beautiful, very close from downtown 💖 It's uphill and then you have to walk some stairs, but it's truly a charming place ✨

We accessed this park by walking through town and following the signs. There was a path we took that had lots of steps going down into the park where we saw many families playing on the playground and in the grass. We found a trail that took us along Gold Creek. It was absolutely beautiful and a very easy hike. We saw someone harvesting berries on the bushes and though I was tempted to taste them, I didn't.

It's a steep climb on main Street to get there and then a steep descent (steps) to get into the park. Has a playground as well.. nice views
Arjun N — Google review
Beautiful park, the creek is a rich and clear blue. The Playground equipment is a little sparse, they've only got swings for the kiddos. Bathrooms are generally clean and usable. Off leash dog area is clean and most folks are good about picking up their doggy doo doo.
Neil L — Google review
Just underwent the first phase of a "remodel", if such a term can be applied to a recreational park, and it sits at the foot of some wild mountain where a glacial river carves it's own transition from rugged nature into downtown juneau, en route to the pristine Lynn Canal. This park is the gateway to other trailheads and to upper downtown Juneau and Basin proper for the mountains which make up the park's rolling forested boundaries. Clearly, this is a place of power. ;-) Cope Park sports a fenced in (rather large) dog park, and brand new, playground with, currently, one fenced tennis court which sits above the other two attractions. There are lavatory facilities with running water, city stocked doggy bags for the dog park and surrounding area. This is a well-frequented city park near the heart of downtown Juneau and some of the off-trail terrain and "culture" has been known to be rather dangerous so be alert when venturing off the beaten path. There is also uncovered seating available near the river at the entrance to the park. Great place for a picnic on a sunny day!

Soggy day but still better than doing nothing. Wanted to take the trail to the tram then ride it down like some have suggested but conditions were not ideal for us. Continuing up Franklin st leads you to a series of many steps dropping into Cope Park that will be easy for some and challenging for others but worth it either way.

Perseverance Theater is a fine evening of good old fashioned entertainment. We just saw "Dreaming Glacier Bay" and enjoyed the entire experience. It was a wonderful production and well worth seeing. This is a fine theater troop and well worth supporting for our community.

My oldest two kids (10 and 9 respectively), their grandmother, and I attended a children's performance of the Norse Myths at the Perseverance Theatre. I purchased our tickets online, which streamlined our check-in and seating. The performance was held within the first door to our left as we entered the building. Having never gone to the Perseverance Theatre before we weren't sure what to expect. The seating was done in a semi-circle of wooden bench like structures and the main stage was the floor in front of us. (Tip: Be on time or you may end up sitting on the floor/periphery of the stage itself)! The performance was really good. The sound effects and lighting done to perfection in regards to timing and volume. My 10 year old son left saying, with exuberance, "Best play ever!" (Of course, it helped that I had just finished reading the Usborne Illustrated Book of Norse Mythology, to my 10 and 9 year olds, prior to seeing the play; the play brought the Myths to life)🙂 I gave the Perseverance Theatre a rating of 4 out of 5 stars simply because the building, both inside and out, felt (and looked) tired to me. Also, as we pulled up to the event, parking wasn't clearly marked and was cause for pause as we had to decide where best to park in hopes of not being ticketed nor having to walk too far. Over-all, a solid, good first play to have experienced at the Perseverance Theatre. Looking forward to attending another play, on another day, that allows for more of the building to be seen and explored.

One of their standout experiences includes a six-hour scenic cruise and kayak tour that takes you through stunning landscapes where majestic whales can often be spotted feeding at Channel Islands.
Absolutely unforgettable! Our family adventure to Norris glacier by seaplane was next-level thanks to Lily, her awesome teammate, Cody, super-driver Joe, ace pilot Mikhael, and the whole crew. Everyone was friendly, fun, and full of cool facts. The weather played nice, and our guides kept things exciting with clever, on-the-fly changes. We laughed, learned, and loved every minute—can’t recommend this epic team enough!

It was an unforgettable adventure. We had spectacular views on the flight, a fun pack raft trip and an amazing hike on the glacier. We had the opportunity to see an incredible ice cave. The guides were top-notch, very patient with our boys while ensuring their safety. I highly recommend this tour!!

We did the Paddle with Whales with Gianna and Wade and had a fabulous trip. Beautiful sunny day Unbelievable sighting of humpback whales breaching, surface feeding and playful tail splashing at least 13 different whales. Also saw harbor seals and stellar sea lions while kayaking. Gianna and Wade were a wealth of knowledge, so relaxed and welcoming. Highly recommended excursion!! Thank you for adding to our Alaska memories.

Such a fabulous time on the water with Captain Wade and his awesome boat! Comfortable, smooth ride, easy to get on and off, snacks and all the views. Our guide from start to finish was Kelsey and she was fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable, capable and she made the tour! She even captured some photos for us. Thank you Kelsey and Wade for going “above and beyond”

The cruise on the Royal Princess to Alaska was just simply amazing!! We saw humpback whales, sea otters, bald eagles, and a bear! The hike through the rainforest and the excursion where we did a canoe ride and a hike was awesome!! Having everything arranged prior by Tim, our travel agent was Also amazing. I would highly recommend Tim to book your next cruise!!

A great tour! Lots of bears and cubs fishing in a beautiful waterfall. The location is excellent, and feels remote and wild. Our Bear Guide, Kelsey, was warm and friendly very knowledgeable about the area and about the bears. She went above and beyond to make sure our experience was safe and successful. A really great tour!!

I took the Mendenhall Glacier canoe trip this past weekend and it was easily the highlight of my time in Alaska! A short bus ride took us to a glacial lake formed by the glacier’s recession. A 45 minute-ish canoe ride later, filled with bird watching and cool facts shared by the guides, we arrived within what felt like a stone’s throw of the glacier. The short hike was enjoyable, and the view of the glacier was truly breathtaking. This experience was truly once in a lifetime and I can’t recommend it enough! Thank you so much to our guides Reina, Risa, and Heather for such a fabulous adventure!

Our tour was very well coordinated from start to finish. They had the appropriate gear, allergy friendly snacks and great equipment. It was super informative and had breathtaking views. The guides were friendly and enthusiastic. They were more than willing to share their knowledge with the group. The tour was on time and just as promised.

Mendenhall Glacier, also known as Sitaantaagu, is a stunning natural wonder located just outside Juneau, Alaska. This 12-mile long glacier offers visitors the opportunity to witness the raw power of nature up close. The breathtaking blue ice and ever-changing ice formations create a picturesque landscape surrounded by majestic mountains. A quick drive from downtown Juneau leads to an overlook of the glacier's nearly half-mile-wide face.
Great experience. A must visit. A short and informative bus ride of about 20 minutes from the ports. Several easy hiking rmtrails with great views of the falls and glaciers. Visitor center closes early.
Jorge M — Google review
We took an excursion tour from our cruise ship and the bus stopped at the parking loop near the visitor centre. Aside from the views of the glacier in the distance, we could see (and hear) Nugget Falls in the distance. Nearby the bus area, there was a wooden walkway going over the top of a salmon spawning area where we caught sight of two different brown bears wandering down to do so fishing. As the walkways are elevated, one of the bears passed directly below us. The walking loop also had some minor vegetations and a few standing pools to look at. The glacier at this distance was probably the least impressive thing about the tour.
Graham T — Google review
Absolutely beautiful views! We spent about 3 hours walking around and hiking up to the falls. It was one of the most breathtaking and relaxing stops we made. It is well worth the drive out from Juneau!
Joshua N — Google review
Great venu with a lot of interpretive information. Family friendly. The visitor center now closes at 5pm.

This is a great walk to do. It doesn't take too long (I think we took 1 hour all up, going to all spots and a long stop for photos). There are 2 spots to go, the shorter route to photo point is very quick and has the best views. Going to nugget falls isn't accessible unless you're stable on your feet (there are natural stepping stones to cross at the end), and doesn't have a great view of the glacier, but the waterfall is very cool and you can get very close to it.
Lachlan S — Google review
Beautiful views!! The glacier itself it a little underwhelming, however the entire park and views of the glacier & mountains is spectacular. There park is very well maintained and easy to get around, and it's a short walk to get to the photo areas. Lots of places to take photos!! Also, I recommend getting the shuttle from downtown to the glacier - it's about $45 per person.
David N — Google review
Beautiful Nature trail. Well maintained and bushes cut back. We used the 0,5mile trail to the waterfall, it was amazing. Not many people at all, around 6pm at night. Wish i spent more time here. If possible do it on your own or with a tour operator that allows more than 1hr here. Ill be back again.
Chris G — Google review
This is a must visit if you were in the area. Plenty of great views of the glacier with a visitor center that is very well staffed with informed rangers who can answer any questions that you may have. They also have binoculars and telescopes for up close viewing of the glacier. Easy 1 mile hike to nugget falls adjacent to the glacier itself. Area is very dog friendly And plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, such as bear and bald eagles. If you’re in Juneau, don’t miss a trip over to Mendenhall.

I have experience with Sam taking me Heli-skiing in Juneau. Decided to take him up on his advice to come fishing the summer. What a special experience it delivered for my dad and I!!! We took a small little float plane into our own special little cove. Nothing but wild around us. Small little hikes to spots along the river. Some great instruction from Sam for us all first time fly fishermen. And some 75 fish later it was time to share our memories over a beer in Juneau. Don’t hesitate , just do it. Special !!

I went out on a bear viewing trip with Bear Creek Outfitters. The trip was very well organized, from being picked up in downtown by our guide, to getting outfitted with rain gear and the flight over to the bear viewing zone. The plane ride was smooth, the views were breathtaking and absolutely stunning. At the bear viewing location, Chris, our guide lead us the the viewing point. He was very knowledgeable, entertaining and knew everything about grizzly bears and the wildlife in South East Alaska. We saw multiple bears, one came kind of close. At each point I felt safe and was not scared, since he explained to us how to behave appropriately. I would do this trip in a heartbeat again and would go again with the oldest company in town - Bear Creek Outfitters. Thanks for the wonderful adventure.
Désirée O — Google review
We did the bear viewing tour with Bear Creek Outfitters during our visit to Juneau, and it was truly unforgettable. The adventure started with a short seaplane flight from Juneau to an island home to nearly 2,000 grizzly bears. Upon landing, our guide, Chris, gave clear and helpful instructions on how to stay safe in bear country, instantly putting everyone at ease. After a short five minute walk from where the plane dropped us off, we arrived at a beautiful waterfall where bears spend their mornings feasting on salmon. Over the course of our 3-4 hours there, we saw a total of eight bears in their natural habitat. This tour was the highlight of our trip! I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Juneau!

We (group of 3) did the waterfall creek bear viewing trip. It is a must do. Bear Creek did a great job communicating and navigating around weather for best bear viewing and seaplane ride into the viewing location. Chris was our guide and we felt so lucky to have him! He is extremely knowledgeable in bear behavior and we felt safe and learned so much during our time with him. Highly recommend to anyone wants the true Alaskan outdoors experience!

Visited Waterfall creek with Teresa this week. The views from the planes were incredible. If you know what to look for you can spot whales on the way up! One bear, Roxy stayed around the falls the whole day, giving us plenty of time to photograph her. The trip was awesome! I definitely recommend it.

We went bear viewing with our guide Chris at Waterfall Creek on Chichagof Island 8/3/25 and had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful setting where we saw multiple brown bears including a mom teaching her cub to fish. Everyone at Bear Creek Outfitters was extremely professional and the boots fit great. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. And, we’d be remiss if we didn’t include a special shout-out to our pilot Nano for the smoothest seaplane landing we’ve ever had!

The brown bear/grizzly bear viewing is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Seeing these bears up close in their own environment, congregating together while fishing and feeding their young is outstanding! This is an amazing once in a lifetime adventure that you should not miss. Chris, our guide was an expert in knowledge of these bears and well prepared us for our experience. Thank you Chris for an awesome experience!

I took my two sons on a half day fishing trip with Bear Creek. Sam was our guide, and he was fantastic. We flew into the mouth of a stream on a float plane. It was almost nonstop action moving downstream as the tide rescinded. We caught several Dolly Varden (too many to count) and two Pink Salmon. This trip was amazing. Highly recommend!
