Exceptional opportunity to be up close to medieval art in addition to the castle itself. The frescos are beautiful and interesting. It’s slightly arduous getting up the steep cobblestone path to the castle but you’re rewarded with a very nice cafe/bar (we got a great snack plate and two beers for €15). The castle tour is self-guided using an app you download. Was pretty intuitive. The castle is great, but equally great are the views of the valley below.

One of the best castle visits I’ve ever had. It’s a unique place—beautiful, small, yet very complete. The wall frescoes are spectacular, and we really enjoyed both the stories and the spaces. I highly recommend visiting with the audio guide, as it makes the experience even richer. The staff are lovely, and the entrance fee of only €10 is very affordable and well worth it. Overall, we truly loved the visit and it’s definitely worth going.

I recommend to pre download the audio guide. It takes like 2 hours or more to see everything if you want to read everything. It is interesting and they have some games and a movie section.

Absolutely brilliant castle, with beautifully preserved frescoes. It is a great visit and is extremely interesting. We particularly enjoyed the nre education centre, where we learned a great deal and engaged with the exhibits. The castle cat was a real nonus as was the restaurant. Excellent!!!

Nice Castle, definitely recommended. Pretty decent cappuccino in a shady spot in the courtyard. Ride a bike, park at the bottom of the steep cobbles or ride up the road if you have the gears for it.

When we visited there at 4pm, most of exhibition rooms are closed and we couldn’t see match stuff. There is restaurant and open cafe. If you visit there for lunch or some coffee, you may have different opinions.

Definately worth a visit, this museum is really interesting and beautifully curated. There are fabulous pieces of art dotted all around and every space is utilised really well. Even if you're not hugely into mountaineering, the museum itself is so well designed that there's enough there for everyone. You can walk along the walls and up the towers, but be advised that you would have to be ok climbing as there are a lot of steps, and there's a bit of a rough path to walk from the carpark. There's also a lovely cafe in a pretty setting. I would highly recommend the museum as it was a half a day well spent .

Well designed and varied mountaineering museum located in Sigmundskron Castle just outside Bolzano. Interesting exhibitions and also a nice view over the valley.

It is a unique place to deeply explore hiking history.. Must visit if you like history, fortress, and hiking.

Don’t be fooled, the museum is bigger than it looks from the outside! It was super cool and lots of interesting exhibits to see. We loved the flow of it. The parking is a satellite parking area - it’s confusing but apparently you pay for parking after not when you first pull in.

Not terrible, but would say if you’re looking for a museum about mountaineering and climbing this isn’t for you. Mostly just lots of different paintings of mountains (which after you’ve seen some can get a bit repetitive). Also no real explanations about anything and mostly slightly generic quotes lining the walls. Nice setting and cafe. Would have been good to hear more about the expeditions and the climbing itself.

Not really a museum disappointing for anyone expecting a story First of all, this is not a museum in the traditional sense — it’s more of a gallery filled with various objects that are in some way connected to Reinhold Messner. There are no explanations or context provided, and by the time you reach the end, someone who came in not knowing who Messner was will likely still have no idea. That’s a real shame, considering how fascinating and unique his life has been. There’s no narrative, no personal story, no background on the exhibits — just items on display. If you’re not deeply into alpinism or mountaineering, you’ll likely be confused and left with more questions than answers. But even if you are interested in those things, the lack of depth or storytelling makes the experience quite flat and unsatisfying. The only real positive is the location — the castle is beautiful and the views are stunning. But unfortunately, that alone doesn’t make up for what this museum lacks.

Great exhibition about black futurism. The other exhibits lack critical reflection which might not bother those who like to delve in Techno escapism and the umptieth revival of esoteric rave culture.

When we visited the museum had an interesting exhibition centred on graffiti art which was engaging. Very quiet and a light and airy place to walk around. But please Museion, improve the washroom standards; they were not very clean.

Beautiful art exhibition (collection of Erling Kagge in September 2020). Thanks to the corona regulations you had plenty of space to walk around, it was very quiet and empty, we had an amazing time. The architecture is amazing as well. Just the overall organization of the exhibition was from time to time a bit confusing.

Spectacular church with beautiful tile roof...it had to be partially reconstructed after WWI

The castle is an impressive sight. Surrounded by beautiful vineyards and framed by the mountains, it offers a stunning backdrop. The well-preserved walls and towers give a real sense of the history of the place. The peaceful setting and scenic views make it a lovely spot for a walk around the ground.

Pretty castle. Short walk from the city center. Near the river park. Makes for some nice pictures. I didn’t go inside but hear it is used as a conference center. Currently worth it while in Bolzano.

The castle itself isn't anything great. You also can't enter. It's for private use or public events. However it sits near city center in the middle of vineyards. In spring it's beautiful, with mountain views behind. Worth stopping at.

Nice trip uphill, not so difficult, but a bit strenght needed. We didint climb to the self mountain, but areas around were also beautiful. You can see the view from both sides. As noticed, not so many tourists around. Several directions to reach the tops with a view.

Everyone should try it, the view from the cabins is beautiful. There were quite a lot of people, but the ascent and descent are well organized because the cabins leave every 5 minutes. If you also want to take the narrow-gauge railway up there, the ticket is €20, it is really worth it.

Beautiful garden with a wide variety of botanical riches--from the "trees of the world" area to the amazing and artful viewing platform set high above the garden to the more formal plantings around the big pond and in the sunny hills near the castle. We spent a few hours here and enjoyed every minute.

We visited the Botanical Gardens of Schloss Trauttmansdorff and highly recommend it. Parking at P3 or P4 is free and just a short 5-minute walk to the entrance. The park is beautifully designed with a wide variety of landscapes and attractions. We started on the left and worked our way through to the right, spending about 2.5 hours in total. There’s a lot to see and experience. Some paths are quite steep, so it might be a bit challenging for older visitors. Overall, a stunning place well worth the visit.

Must see if you are in the area, 3-4 hours is minimum to be able to see all

This place is so awesome I don't even want to write a review about it, it might make it busier in this era of overtourism. But anyway: this garden is too beautiful to be true: the location in the Alps, the hilly terrain of the park, and the variety of plants and flowers and artwork. Usually it's sunny here which really helps. We were here in late October which was perfect. Walking around is not really doable for people who don't walk well. Parking is easy, there's also a bus to the station and it's an easy detour from the Brenner tollway.

The garden itself is beautiful but be aware that there are car thieves operating in the car parks. Smashed windows and stolen belongings are a common occurrence.

Very nice place with outdoor seating. We had to wait for like 20mns to get an outdoor seating but worth the wait. Very good service the food came quite quickly. I had the tuna and egg salad and the Schultzkrafpen (type of pasta with spinach and ricotta without the sauce) and hubby ate the pork ribs which as you can see from the photo devoured them saying they were a delicatessen. Very fairly priced around €20 per person.

Even though it’s a touristy place, the food was way above expectations! The freshly brewed beer was fantastic, the sausages with sauerkraut had just the right balance, and the cranberry sauce with the schnitzel was absolutely unforgettable. We sat outside, enjoyed the atmosphere, and my family couldn’t have been happier with our lunch.

Was there during the weekend for a lunch. Nice atmosphere, dinning outside, waitresses organized and friendly. We didn’t wait for so long for the service. Food was delicious. I ordered a bistecca di lombata di vitello - local veal loin steak with chanterelle sauce, potatoes and green beans with bacon; cabbage salad and the sin after - Topfenknödel. Everything was excellent, meet was melting in the mouth basically. Dessert delicious. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Big plus as they work during all the day and they don’t close from 15-18h, as we arrived around 15:30h for a lunch, which is late for the Italian standards 😅 Excellent quality price ratio. We are looking forward to coming back to this restaurant in the future.

Still, considering the central location and overall good quality of the food, the prices were quite reasonable. A solid and honest place I’d recommend for a casual meal while strolling through Bolzano.

Quaint restaurant featuring local tyrolian cuisine. It’s a vibrant spot and institution in town amongst locals and tourists. I found the dishes good especially the octopus and grilled steak with mushrooms. However, I did find the service a bit lacking, not very detail oriented and one may have to repeat their request. Other than that a must try in Bolzano.

Authentic place with South Tyrolean cuisine. When booking, ask for a table either outside on the street or on the first floor - the second and third floors don’t really have the same atmosphere. The food is excellent, exactly what you need in this region: the must-try canederli (traditional bread dumplings made with speck or cheese and best enjoyed in broth), amazing chanterelle mushrooms (now in season), and veal head. The goulash is wonderful, and even the kids’ schnitzel is absolutely delicious.

The meals we had - ravioli and Schnitzel - were both delicious, portions were nice too, but the inside dining area is uncomfortably hot, however if you opt to eat outside, you need to share the airspace with smokers.

This was a super tasty wiener schnitzel. We actually came without looking at reviews because this place was always packed when passing by, so one day we dropped in earlier for lunch and even then there was no more seating in the outside or first floor, but luckily still plenty of seating upstairs, which also completely filled up rather quickly. Food was very tasty and I regret not ordering more that day as this was one of the best restaurants I dined at while in Bolzano. It was only later while searching for best wiener schnitzl in Bolzano that this place consistently showed up. Also, the environment is quite cozy, and you can imagine the long history of this restaurant. Only downside is service is quite slooooow, which is pretty much standard in this area.

I’m always extremely happy to find restaurants like this one that offer a wide range of gluten-free options. The food was tasty, and the staff was friendly. However, we had to wait more than half an hour for the pizza. In addition, my husband’s pizza was brought out quite a bit before mine. The gluten-free strudel was good, but the regular one left my husband unimpressed.

This was a fun place to enjoy a cool sprtiz. The drinks didn't come in the typical wine glass with a straw but they were still good and it was more sitting in the square. We did get a little snack of chips and something else that were quite tasty. There was a guy pin the Plaza playing guitar which made for nice background music.

Always a pleasure to eat here. The view of Piazza Walther was really nice at sunset. I love the pastă a with tomato sauce, basil and I order with extra buratta 😍 it’s one of my favorite dishes. My husband ordered English-style roasted beef, it was really good. Would recommend eating here!

My wife has a diet that is probably the worst thing to have while traveling in Europe: gluten-free. All of the great breads, pies, pastries, etc. But she found this restaurant on the square, close to our hotel. I went in expecting it to be decent. And boy was I wrong... The head manager/owner greeted us and got us seated, and we proceeded to have one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The staff were genuine, professional, but also real. They were funny, even. The food was perfect... It wasn't over-the-top in trying to be too fancy, too "fusioned," or anything of the sort. It wasn't anything other than sublime. Beef tagliata with shaved truffle, which my wife cleaned every morsel of - and my roasted spring chicken had this subtle flavoring and perfect level of roasting that let all of the flavors work beautifully. We ended up having dessert and two glasses of a delicious amaro - and much laughter with our very sharp and lively serving team... It was an amazing evening, and to add to our own enjoyment, the whole mood of the place was truly warm and friendly, full of locals who knew it to be a great spot to dine. I'll definitely be back. This place just passed up several of the more "chic" and "classic/classy" spots in this beautiful town - and there is some real competition in Bolzano. Thank you for a glorious evening, Walther's!

A well curated museum with lots of thought going into the exhibits. Unfortunately many of the most interesting only have explanations in German and Italian and the accompanying audio guide in English is simplistic and doesn't cover some of the more interesting displays, which was a great disappointment - especially as so many tourists from the US are now apparently embracing Bolzano. A number of the permanent interactive exhibits were broken, which was also a pity. Unfortunately, this museum, in common with most of the others in Bolzano no longer offers free entry on presentation of a Bolzano card, although there are some discounts available.

It was pretty cool. However there isn't any Hands-on experiences it is mostly reading and translating from either Italian or German. There is a fish tank on the second level and a little shop on ground level. The shop is quite interesting with little animals carved out of stone which are about €2.90!

Best ice cream I've had! Their cremino flavour (a hazelnut nougat) is amazing, as well as the fruit flavours I've tried (raspberry and mandarin). The shop is completely gluten free. If I come through Bolzano again, I will definitely revisit (probably multiple times).

Nice ammendment to the Museum in Bozen, showing the living context of Ötzi and his historic time. The parc is small, but nice and they are constantly growing and developing the museum area.

The park features wide green lawns, shady trees, and benches overlooking the surrounding mountains—ideal for reading, picnicking, or just unwinding. Terme di Merano is a true gem in this small city. It’s always a pleasure to return and spend some time in the lovely pools. However, this time the experience was less relaxing due to children and teenagers screaming and splashing about all day. The lifeguards do their best to keep the situation under control, but it doesn’t seem to be particularly effective. Children, in particular, are allowed access to every pool, rather than being directed to the smaller ones more suited to them. I believe the management should implement stricter rules to ensure children only use the pools designated for them. This would significantly improve the experience for other guests, who would no longer have to endure constant shouting or being splashed. Additionally, the outdoor pool at 37°C wasn’t accessible, as children were continuously diving into it and entering from all directions. This spoils the experience for adults who simply want to relax. I sincerely hope the management considers making some changes.

The experience was generally nice however I felt like the thermal pool had to be a bit hotter. Bistro’s menu can be improved there wasnt that much option. And even though we went on a random Tuesday it was crowded, luckily on holidays&crowded sessions you must reserve beforehand. The hygiene was sufficient.

Nice pools though overcrowded in summer and not cheap. Many rules to follow which could be somewhat more politely expressed: cloakroom full, go outside, just to find out outside you need 1€ change which we did not have, came to cloakroom inside which were NOT FULL! Besides, yelled at for not bringing bought food outside of the bar etc etc... So many tourists so you're just one of them...

Unlike many other reviewers we had a fabulous time here. It was September and pretty quiet, with few children. We preferred the outdoor pools, swimming in the fresh air. Temperatures varied but many pools were 34C. We stayed for 2 hours (it wasn’t warm enough to sit outside in wet costumes) All staff we came across were pleasant. Facilities were spotless. We brought towels, flip flops and shower soaps with us. We didn’t stay for lunch - preferring to go back into town and eat by the river. Lovely experience.

I have to say unfortunately an horrible experience. We had a reservation for a 20 min massage and the spa for the whole day. €118 euros. For this amount of money we expected a relaxing experience. It was quite the opposite. Staff were rude except for the lady at the massage. Massage was a very light but relaxing massage for 15 min. Then we stepped back into the overcrowded hell with the pools and all the people and children. If you have been to a real spa, please avoid this commercial drained organization. Bistro was also a bad experience. Staff were uninterested helping you and a lot was already sold out (we were there at 3PM)

Even the adult-only spa area, which is supposed to be more private, was jam-packed. Guests were literally queuing up naked just to get inside. If going nude is your thing, that’s fine, but there was simply no space to enjoy or unwind. It was impossible to relax with the sheer number of people packed into every corner. Terrible experience overall. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, don’t bother coming here.

Definitely a must see when in Dolomites. Great hiking area with wonderful view. Even in high season the place is so big you won't see the crowds. Only issue, you need to take a lift. You can try walking but the routes and parking rules are so weird we gave up the idea. You'll have enough trekking once up there.

Great bike shop. Sebastian was very helpful, friendly and professional. Good prices and selection of bikes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting an e-bike if visiting during summer as you can see much more of the scenery when doing so.

It's not my favorite Alpe, and it's very hot in summer. You have to pay every lift to go up or down. The signs are not very visible. I would recommend hiking a loop and taking the lift down. It's no fun to walk downhill on a ski run. Visitors were all very friendly. All the cows with cowbells on reminded you it's the Alpe, and it's nice sound effect with the grassy rolling hill background. Again, it's very hot in August and there are very few shady areas.

Passeggiata del Guncina is a very beautiful trek which is easily accessible from the center of the city. It may be better to do it early in the morning in the summers and on a nice day in the winter. The trek is covered by trees and there are benches to take rest. It would be better to have some simple equipment for exercise.

Excellent hotel in an excellent location. Very close to the Bolzano train station. All of the restaurants and shopping are right outside the front door. We got a complimentary upgrade when we checked in to a lovely room with a patio and a beautiful bathroom. One of the nicest hotel rooms we had on our entire trip to Italy. Access to the pool at the sister hotel right across the street was a great feature - especially on the 100° F summer days! Breakfast was DELICIOUS!!! Great espresso drinks, great fresh fruit, and my favorite was the salmon lox Highly recommend!

Very nice hotel located just off the main plaza of Bozano. Our room had a small patio with 4 chairs and an umbrella where we had our morning coffee. The breakfast was excellent with a huge variety of breakfast foods, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh baked breads, coffee and eggs to order and a hot tea bar. Service was excellent and you had a choice of dining indoors or outdoors on the balcony. We’d definitely recommend Hotel Greif!!

Great (with *one* weird caveat) The service at Hotel Greif is incredible! The greeter was very nice and helpful. Sebastian in the dining room was a delight to my daughter each morning (whoopsy!) and Diego was a very relaxed and informative bartender. Everyone was just great! My only issue was that they drained the hot tubs between 9pm and 8am! Imagine my shock as I'm having an evening soak after my daughter goes to bed, and my hot tub drains on me! And then, I couldn't get up early to enjoy it, either, because it didn't fill until after we left the hotel to explore. I asked the front desk to change the automation, and they accommodated me the next couple days, to differing degrees. I would just warn anyone renting the rooms specifically to use the hot-tubs with a view, that the hours you might enjoy them might not be allowed. I think most people would find this ridiculous--as you paid for it. That weirdness aside, the Hotel Greif is a beautiful place with great staff and is about a ten minute or less walk from the main cable car--which is perfect and lets you avoid driving and parking.

Overall the stay was great. The room as clean, modern and comfortable. The breakfast buffet selection was excellent. My only complaint is the noise. I believe it was from the rooftop bar. You could hear the bass of the music through the walls. Not good for a light sleeper. I only stayed one night so it wasn't an issue but I would have had to move if it was for an extended stay.

Breakfast was delicious every morning and a highlight of our stay.! When we had a problem with the air conditioning, the staff was incredibly kind and quickly moved us to another room. The only downside was the artwork in our first room, which depicted male anatomy in every picture and felt more like something a high schooler would draw in a bathroom stall than real art. (Not great for my 13 year old daughter) Our second room was much better, and overall this was a five-star stay thanks to the wonderful service and hospitality!

This is my best hotel experience yet! Upon arrival I requested a bathtub, and these guys offered me the coolest room! A fantastic bed, great views over the main square, bath with a steam shower! And last but not least, a whole piano inside my room (!!) The staff was nothing else but nice to me the whole stay. Will definetely come back. Thanks!

We started from St. Magdalena Church and found out that the trail was blocked shortly before the hotel Eberle. This blockage is due to a earth slide that happened 6 months ago and the wreckage is still not cleaned up. The sign was not clear about the obstruction at all. Otherwise the trail is really beautiful.

Last 300 meters are closed due to a rockfall incident. It's still worth walking and turning around, just be aware that the next restaurant is further away :)
