Ortisei, located in the Val Gardena region of the Dolomites, is a picturesque village where German and Italian are spoken. It serves as a major hub for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and skiing. The town offers plenty of restaurants, hotels, and shops for visitors to explore. Cable cars provide easy access to the surrounding mountains and there are regular bus services to nearby Bolzano.
Most convenient town if you go vacation in Dolomites in Alps Mountain range. Can reach all the places without using your car.

The best city to stay and hike in the Dolomites! Buy a 6 days Val Gardena pass and you can hike most of the trails in this area! Parking is limited and the best way to stay here is by public transportation. I visited here 5 tomes already and in the past three times , I visited here by public transportation!
Michael L — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this stunning city. It's calm, clean, and surrounded by breathtaking mountains—one reaching 2,005 meters. A cable car takes you to the top of Sëuc Mountain, while another leads to the majestic Seceda. The city center is filled with charming restaurants and beautiful churches that add to its serene atmosphere. Words truly fall short in capturing its beauty. For a peaceful experience, I highly recommend walking across the pedestrian bridge on the way to the Sëuc cable car station. It’s a perfect spot to reflect, take in the views, and feel completely at ease.

Ortisei is one of those cities that seem to have come out of an alpine fairy tale. With its colourful architecture, pedestrian streets full of wooden craft shops and landscapes of grandiose mountains around, it is simply charming. The city is at 1,236 m altitude and is surrounded by iconic peaks such as Seceda and Sassolungo, providing stunning scenery from its centre. In addition, Ortisei works very well as a base for easy or more challenging trails, with easy access to cable cars and the Alpe di Siusi.

Ortisei valgardena !is beautiful but often overcrowded it’s a famous spot surrounded by gorgeous mountains that are definitely worth visiting. However, there are also plenty of less-crowded places to explore. On my way back, I discovered Trentino a true gem in the Alps! Especially the Vigolana Monte Bondone with panorama view with Brenta Dolomites area, where nature feels pure and peaceful. The best part? You can easily visit both regions it’s only about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Trento to Ortisei. Accommodations in Trentino are fantastic and reasonably priced you don’t need to take out a mortgage to stay in beautiful places! From here, you can also easily visit the South Tyrol region. As a vlogger, I always like to keep an open mind and have options 💚🌱🍃Trentino truly offers that balance of beauty, comfort, and value. Now if you want and can !Ortisei is so fancy 💚great restaurant's very clean town ,is a great place to stay as well .

Amazing mountain town, we loved it here even more than Cortina!

Beautiful and charming village in the heart of the Dolomites. Huge range of accommodation available. Could be busy in summer, but in autumn, when we visited, crowds were a little quieter and the autumn colours were spectacular.
Malcolm D — Google review
Ortisei in late September is a sleepy, little village dominated by old folks (mostly locals). Gone are the masses of tourists which surely put everyone’s patience to a test. It’s quiet, there’s wood crafting shops at every corner and local markets. We didn’t find many restaurants or even cafes which is a pity.

Seceda, located in the Dolomites, is a prominent mountain offering a range of activities for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy alpine hiking trails, take a cable car ride to the top for breathtaking views, and explore the ski area. The Puez Odle Hike within the Puez Odle National Park is highly recommended, providing stunning mountain vistas and picturesque meadows along with charming mountain huts.
Amazing hike and experience. The place is unreal! Better time to go is around September, is not too busy and wheater conditions is still pretty good. Although cable car on my opinion is a little overpriced (52e per person) + car parking + toilet payment on the main station. There is local restaurants around the park as well.
Elise A — Google review
I spent 12 days hiking in the Dolomites, and this was by far the least impressive. Two people to go up cost €110 plus parking — expensive but still acceptable. But charging €5 just for the photo spot felt absurd. They’ve monetized the mountain 160% — completely over the top. On top of that, the walk feels more like strolling through a farm than truly trekking in nature.
Mariana S — Google review
Probably the most visited place in Val Gardena. Remember to layer up in the shoulder season and check the webcams for weather. We walked from the seceda cable station to col raiser and got down using the cable car there. Beautiful scenic walk with good food at the hut in between.
Armon C — Google review
Breathtaking view. Amaizing landscapes it looks like we are un some different alien planet. Though cable rides were bit costlier but a gardena pass covering major cable rides would be preferable if u are visiting other places of dolomites.
Sanjaykumar M — Google review
Beautiful views but crowded There are even parts of land where you need to pay to pass Nice walk from Col Raiser No people
Ana V — Google review
The cable car going up to the mountain top from Ortisei is rather expensive for 52 EUR but it’s such a gorgeous place that it was absolutely worth it. Tickets can be bought on site or online (we bought them from our phone when we arrived there as lines were very long, so we could skip the line and head directly to the cable car). Lines were long but moved quickly. The mountains are breathtaking and there are so many different hikes to take. The only reason I’m giving 4* is because of the SCAM at the top: as we walked towards one of the panoramic views, there was a turnstile with a man standing there, demanding 5 EUR from everybody to get to that specific part of the mountain. Firstly, I found it disgusting to block parts of a natural beauty and ask money from people to be able to access it, and second, as it turned out there is a short uphill path leading up to the panoramic point where there was no one who would ask money, so people would just walk up and see the same thing others paid for (despite the no entry sign placed at the start of that short path).
Alexandra D — Google review
Amazing views (if you get lucky with the weather), but €52 for a return lift ticket is, in my opinion, absolutely ridiculous. Plus, parking costs around €10 (depending on how long you stay). Also, hotels in the town are way overpriced. If you’re planning to come, look for accommodation a little outside the area — it’s worth it.
Juris A — Google review
siting Seceda in October (2025) for the views was a truly magnificent experience! The weather at the summit was perfectly cool, making the walk very comfortable, and the scenery was as spectacular as rumored, especially the steep, jagged peaks of the Odle Group cutting against the vast meadows. Getting here is very easy and convenient; you just take two consecutive cable cars up from the town of Ortisei, and you are immediately greeted with a 360-degree panoramic view as soon as you step off the lift. It's an unmissable spot for capturing world-class landscapes!

The baroque-style parish church features three naves and two side chapels dedicated to the Sacred Heart and Madonna del Rosario.
A stunning church that would enthrall anyone who like Gothic architecture is hidden away in the picturesque village of St. Ulrich. This magnificent church, which was built in the fourteenth century, is an absolute masterpiece of Gothic architecture. With its towering spires, elaborate carvings, and stunning stained glass windows that fill the inside with a delicate, ethereal light, the church's exterior is extremely striking. But the church's interior is where its true beauty lies. Visitors are welcomed by the church's gorgeous interior, which is adorned with elaborate embellishments, complex carvings, and stunning religious art, as soon as they step inside. Awe-inspiring grandeur is created by the lofty ceilings, arched windows, and imposing pillars. The church's complex altar, a masterwork of Gothic architecture, is one of its most striking characteristics. The altar is embellished with exquisite statues of significant holy leaders, gilded accents, and complex woodwork. In conclusion, everybody who likes stunning architecture, sacred art, and the majesty of Gothic design must visit this church. You will undoubtedly be awed by the majesty and grandeur of this magnificent church, regardless of whether you consider yourself a fervent devotee or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of historical places.

The Parish Church of Ortisei, dedicated to Saint Ulrich of Augsburg, was built in 1793 as a single-nave structure. Due to population growth and artistic flourishing in Val Gardena, it was expanded between 1905–1907 with two side chapels. Celebrated on July 4, Saint Ulrich is the patron of travelers, fishermen, and winemakers. The church, a late Baroque gem, features flat domes, an onion-shaped bell tower, and ornate interiors. Highlights include frescoes, carved pews, and sculptures by the Moroder family, notably the “Adoration of the Magi” and Saint Elizabeth with a beggar, awarded in Paris in 1900.

Museum Gherdëina, located in St. Ulrich in Val Gardena/Groden, offers a diverse collection showcasing the culture, art, and natural history of the Gardena Valley. Visitors can explore an extensive array of exhibits including fossils from the Dolomites such as the remarkable Ichtyosaurus of Seceda, a herbarium, butterfly collections, local animal displays, wood carvings, old toys and more.
Though this place may be small, it had great information about the area, the formation of the dolomites and the people and their customs worth the trip to Ortisei if you are taking a break from skiing and stopping by to learn about the history of the area
Glenn S — Google review
We visited Museum Gherdëina on the last day of a week long stay in Ortisei, and it truly enhanced the cultural, linguistic, historical, architectural, geological observations we had been making and discussing during our travels. I was happy to support this museum and their work to preserve thousands of years of history and culture in the region. I urge anyone with a critical and curious mind to visit.

Mountain cable car
During our stay in the charming town of Ortisei, we decided to embark on an adventure using the Gondola Mont Seuc. This cable car conveniently departs right from town and whisks you up to breathtaking heights, offering stunning views of lush green valleys dotted with hay fields and fir trees. The ride takes about 15 minutes, elevating you to Mount Seuc at an impressive altitude of 2050 meters.
I parked my car in the town Sankt Ulrich because it was less crowded than the Castelrotto/Kastelruth. The walk to the 🚡 ticket office was hardly 5 minutes and within next 10, I was at the top. You finally understand what ''Europe's highest plateau'' really means once you step outside the cable car and look at the vast space that seems like a green curving velvet. And of course those three spiral peaks in the distance. There are plenty of trails going in different directions and also hotels, restaurants if you're staying over to explore this heavenly land properly.
Ray — Google review
This is an awesome ride that is incredibly quiet and takes you to one of the most amazing spots in the area where you can hike all day. It is not a cheap ride, but I would recommend doing it at least once.
Lorenzo F — Google review
Alp di Seusi another set of about 15 dolamites peaks. In the entire region wherever you go you can see the peaks in different directions. A 15 minutes peak cable car from st ulrich takes to the mount seuc at 2050 meters a 1k meter climb. The distance is 2.5 km. After getting up there you can have cycling path or hiking path to see the beauty of all the mountains. Prey to God for a kind weather or else these peaks are covered in clouds. The Sunday makes the dolomites to wear thr burning colors. Lively place

St.-Jakobs-Kirche, located in the charming village of St. Ulrich, is a stunning 18th-century Baroque church that has been designated as a protected monument. The church boasts an impressive exterior with a towering spire and lovely bell tower, while its interior is adorned with remarkable artworks by Ferdinand Stuflesser, including an altar featuring statues of St. Joseph with Jesus the child, St. Francis de Sales, and St. Teresa of Avila.
A wonderful place to walk up to from Ortesei or down from Seceda. Visited twice and wasn't disappointed by the view or the serenity of the church

Very nice and easy path from Ortisei. Unfortunately the church was closed and it started to rain. We had to run down 10 min to Santa Cristina to catch the bus to Ortisei

Great experience. It’s new and they’re still working out the kinks. 1st time we tried to go it was broken, second time the doors wouldn’t open automatically. Had to help the conductor use a key to manually open them a-couple times. Not a big deal, perhaps part of the charm. Beautiful views, sledging was the highlight of our trip (wear helmets) and the view from the top of the Sassolungo is unmatched. Restaurant was excellent. Would recommend.

A fun ride up the cable train. Good views of Ortisei on the way. Easy walks at the top. Incredible views in all directions. We hiked down later in the day, which was a good way to get an alternate perspective without the hard climb

Although not as popular as the Furnes-Seceda lift, a ride to Resciesa plateau then to the Resciesa refuge is funny and relaxing. Stunning views and a lovely easy winter walk. The path was well trodden and fairly easy for someone of average physical fitness to enjoy the walk on. Plenty of parking spaces available when we arrived and easy to pay for on the app. Great views both ways and plenty of things along the path to explore along the way!

For me, the Vallunga was the finish of the trail #16 from the Puez Hut. So we walk it all way from the beginning to the end. It is a beautiful, peaceful and restful place. Something like a path to or from heaven... Lucky locals to enjoy such a marvelous valley.

Shamma A — Google review
Nice place to visit while nearby, roses were still not mature yet. Entrance fees are not mandatory but they recommend 3 Euro per person.
Haidar A — Google review
This is part of a 4 star hotel and is a eally nice detour from the main path but I think it's worth it. Entry fee is only 2 eur,if you like, not a must. The garden is beautiful, but we came in the beginning of July so the blossom wasn't at its peak. Nonetheless the views are great.
Oh G — Google review
Really beautiful and breathtaking garden full of roses. Entry fee was 6 euro for the entire family.

The Seceda Cable Car, also known as the Mont Seuc cable car, is a bright red, slim oval that takes visitors up to 2000 meters for incredible views over the Val Gardena. The round trip costs 39 Euros and includes two different rides: a gondola to station 2 and then a cable car ride to Seceda with breathtaking views. The climb is not very difficult but relatively long, and tickets can be purchased at a platform near the lift.
What an incredible place. We thought the cost was quite a lot to get the cable car up but once at the top the views are amazing. We did a 10km hike and it must go down as one of the best hikes we've ever done. We ended up getting a bus back to the town which was really simple so just needed a one way ticket.
Bruce R — Google review
We paid €52 per person for a round trip. I recommend buying tickets online to avoid the queue. Make sure to keep your ticket with you throughout your visit to Seceda, as you’ll need to scan the QR code each time you board. A free toilet is available. There is parking near the station, but I recommend arriving as early as possible, spots fill up quickly
Tetiana B — Google review
An incredible cable car up to the famous Seceda. What views! Be careful of long lines to get back down in the final hour when everyone is leaving. Great spot for paragliding at the top, hundreds of great hikes, numerous options for food at the top also. An amazing day out that was well beyond expectations!
Clancy — Google review
The cable car ride takes about 30–40 minutes if there’s a bit of a crowd. The first section is really quick since there are lots of cabins, but on the next stretch only two cabins are running, which slows things down and can create a bit of a bottleneck during busy times. When one cabin is at the top, the other is at the bottom. I recommend buying your cable car tickets in advance. If you haven’t, the easiest option is to use the ticket machine outside. Of course, you can also wait in line at the counter for about 15 minutes, but that’s time taken away from enjoying the area. We arrived around 10 a.m. and there were still plenty of parking spaces available. There are quite a lot, but by noon they were already full and only freed up as people started leaving. The parking was well organized by staff, who were really good at their job. Parking is paid, but the price is very reasonable. All in all: this is absolutely a place worth visiting — whether you’re on your own, with friends, or with your family.

52€ was a lot in a moment when I was paying it. When I got there and saw the view, I didn’t regret anything. Breathtakingly beautiful, I believe in every season. I saw many comments that you should come early. If you’re hiking and stuff, for sure. If you’re like me, going for views and vibes, then you don’t have to rush. I came to gondolas around 11:30. I came in both gondolas immediately, but I bought tickets online. It wasn’ too crowded anywhere. I enjoyed the view, took a walk and photos and had a wonderful lunch in restaurant Sofie. I got down around 14:30, but I was in a little rush to come to my hotel before dark. So you can spend few wonderful hours there and it will be worth it. Huge recommendation!
Katarina S — Google review
Visited in June, paid 52€ round trip. Make sure you keep your tickets because you need it for exit. Same applies to most of the other cable cars around dolomites area, so don’t throw your tickets away. We bought the tickets in person on the day itself and it was fairly quick. Highly recommend to spend the whole day as Seceda looks different with different lightings and cloud movements
Swan T — Google review
Amazing experience! 🌄 This cable car takes you to some of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen — definitely don’t miss it! There are two parts: a smaller cable car first, then a bigger one that goes really high up to a spot with a restaurant and breathtaking views. Totally worth it!

Seceda is from this world but looks otherworldly. The combination of great weather and early morning hours allowed us to take unforgettable snapshots of this natural wonder. The cable car trip was super fast and smooth both up & down. And meeting a Knicks' fan at the top was just a cherry on top 🌄💙🧡🏀😎

The Monumento a Dante Alighieri is a striking statue located in the park of the station, created by Florentine sculptor Cesare Zocchi. It stands as a symbol of Italian culture during a time when Trentino was under the Austro-Hungarian Empire's rule. The monument holds historical significance due to the region's complex territorial history and strong Austrian influence over the centuries.
Beautiful monument of Dante , it’s is huge. Nice location in the beautiful park. Very nice detailed statues, shapes and forms.

Such an incredible public space. We start every day of our visit here. April weather has been gorgeous, and the trees, flowers, and pond are all beautifully planned and maintained. People of all ages are enjoying the gardens, sitting on plentiful benches, or playing in the grass. Amazing location.
Dane P — Google review
A really great park for morning walks. There are many ducks and other birds, who live in the pond, and monuments around the pond.
Hris I — Google review
A very detailed one. Easily one of the best statues I’ve seen with my own eyes
Denys L — Google review
A fascinating monument for Dante Alighieri, an incredible writer who went a lot deeper into the inferno than most writers before him. Dante himself is an interesting historical figure to read up on, but in terms of statues this is a great one to view. From the plaza you have an amazing view of the surrounding mountains. The statue seems a lot more epic than many of the other Christian statues found around Europe, as it is not afraid to portray the demonic folklore of the religion. This can be fascinating and refreshing to see, as most religious statues are focused on holier angelic elements.
Peter C — Google review
It's a nice park, nice statues, really cute open air market with good Alpine food. Trento is cute. I wasn't here at night so I can't comment on the purported "drug market" other reviewers are mad about but as it's a park and it's Italy I'm sure it happens. Rip.
Joey — Google review
Looks nice but it seems pretty unsave. We wanted to rest a little bit in the park but instantly changed our mind when we saw that we were followed by 2 guys as soon as we entered the park. So the advice is, just leave this place allown, there are much better places in Trento to visit.
Andreas B — Google review
Difficult to rate this...5 stars for the gorgeous park and statue of the illustrious Italian playwright... 1 star for the much-less-enlightened African "diaspora" that for years has made this park (really, all the surrounding area) its home, as others here have noted. The authorities seem to pretend there's nothing wrong with it, or that this is the new normal. On the other hand, not just a Trento problem but an Italy problem... A great disgrace and shame.
