Tiger Hill Sunrise Point is truly a must-visit when in Darjeeling! Located about a 30–40 minute drive from the main city, it’s famous for offering a breathtaking view of the sunrise over the Kanchenjunga range. Ideally, you should plan your visit between 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. to catch the magical first rays lighting up the snow-clad peaks. However, do keep in mind that the weather in Darjeeling can be very unpredictable. If clouds are too dense, the majestic Himalayan view might hide itself away!
The spot is peaceful and fills you with a deep sense of calm and wonder. With the cool winds blowing. whether you make it for sunrise or visit later in the day, Tiger Hill is absolutely worth every moment — a truly unforgettable experience.

Check for the clouds at around 3am before heading here to get an idea whether you can see the mountains especially the Kanchanjunga.
The vehicle management needs to improve. The entire tourist population of Darjeeling will be here with atleast 300 cars on a weekday and more on the weekends. So be ready to walk a bit because your driver will prefer keeping the car at the far end to ease the departure.
No official observatory here when I went in the month of October 2025. You'll have some local vendors who serve maggie and momo as well.

Best place to see the sunrise view .But maximum time can't see sunrise here because of fog or clouds but atmosphere and stunning mountain view is awesome...if you are lucky enough to see the tiger hill otherwise not possible to see The Tiger hill first sunlight...too many car jam in the area morning till 4am to 7 am.
Batasia Loop is a fascinating stop along the Siliguri-Darjeeling route, situated below Ghoom Railway Station. This engineering marvel from the British era was designed to ease the steep descent for trains passing through Ghoom station on their journey to Darjeeling. Observing the miniature train navigate around this circular track is a delightful experience for visitors.
Before few day’s ago me with my loving family visited the iconic Batasia Loop in Darjeeling, a scenic wonder along the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, where the toy train winds through lush greenery and panoramic Mountain View’s. You can wear beautiful costumes for rent rs 50. You can easily spend 30 minutes to 1 hour here. . The toy train halts here briefly, allowing passengers to experience the mesmerizing landscape and capture stunning photographs.

We visited Batasia Loop in the morning, and it was an unforgettable experience. The entry ticket is ₹50 per person, which is absolutely worth it. The beautifully landscaped gardens, the iconic spiral railway track, and the peaceful atmosphere made the visit even more special. A must-visit place in Darjeeling, especially in the morning when the views are at their best.
Batasia Loop is an average spot that doesn’t quite live up to the hype. The views are decent, but not particularly unique compared to other scenic locations nearby. The biggest downside is that it’s overly crowded, especially during peak hours, which takes away from the experience. There isn’t much to do apart from a quick stop for photos, and facilities around the area are minimal. Overall, it’s okay for a short visit, but not worth going out of your way for.

Standing at Batasia Loop, I was mesmerized by the breathtaking sight of Kanchenjunga rising majestically against the clear blue sky. The serene curve of the railway track at Batasia framed the view perfectly, making the mighty mountain appear even more enchanting. The fresh breeze, the quiet hum of nature and the panoramic backdrop of Darjeeling’s hills made the moment unforgettable.
Very beautiful landscape. You can ride toy train from here to explore the Darjeeling tourist spots. Also there is a War memorial where you can take photos to show respect. The area has a garden with benches to take rest.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HIM) in Darjeeling is a renowned educational venue that offers a range of activities for adventure enthusiasts. Established to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest, it provides classes, expeditions, and an indoor climbing wall. The institute also features a museum with memorabilia and photos from the early days of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world. Founded on November 4th, 1954 by none other than Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa & Sir Edmund Hillary. Being the premier mountaineering institute of South-east Asia, HMI is also referred to as the Mecca of Indian Mountaineering. The Institute has an international reputation and has trained thousands of people from across the globe in mountaineering and allied adventure activities.
The major access to Darjeeling by road is via Siliguri, 77 K.M. (via NH 55), which is connected to all the major cities of India. Bus service is available from Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand, Siliguri. Smaller vehicles are also available on seat-sharing/ hire from airport, railway station, motor syndicates / police motor stand. Facility of Pre-paid taxi stand from NJP Railway station & Bagdogra airport can also be availed. The four routes that one can opt from Siliguri to reach Darjeeling are: i) Tindharia – Kurseong route ii) Dudhiya – Mirik route iii) Rohini route iv) Pankhabari

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world. After buy tickets for zoo the same ticket will give you the access for HMI. There also a museum, which has an immense collection of mountaineering equipment, scales of the mountain range and anything and everything in between. Everything is very well presented.
It was good to know that Tenzing was associated with HMI. They also have his shrine.
Malavath Poorna is the youngest girl in the world to have climbed Mount Everest Is also trained in this institute.

Invaluable tourist spot in Darjeeling. Great place to view the glorious attempts to climb the tallest mountain peaks in India and Nepal. We also get the opportunity to see the various gear used by the countless mountaineers in their attempts to climb them. There are also the statues of Tenzing Sherpa and Edmund Hillary. We pause there in awe as we recollect their heroic feat. The entire process of mountaineering is described in detail there. There are several magnificent photographs too.

Nestled at an enchanting altitude of 6,800 feet, Happy Valley Tea Estate spans across 437 acres and is the second oldest tea estate in Darjeeling. Visitors can embark on tours to witness the intricate process of harvesting and processing tea leaves. The lush plantations set against hilly slopes emit a captivating aroma that adds to the charm of this historical plantation. Guided tours offer insights into the rich history and production of world-renowned Darjeeling Tea.
One of the most beautiful and well maintained tea gardens I have ever visited in Darjeeling district, very few people know & visit this spot as the road condition is not that good , but once you enter into this Garden you will be completely mesmerized, In the tea factory they will show you the entire process of Tea making from Tea leaf plucking to packaging, the factory is situated inside the tea garden only. You have to pay rupees 100/- to witness this process but for tea garden visit there is no entry fee. Here they also sell the tea product - Milk tea, Green tea , Black tea.

A Serene Walk and a Lovely Experience at Happy Valley Tea Estate
We walked down to Happy Valley Tea Estate from the Botanical Garden, and as we emerged from the alley into the open, we were greeted by breathtaking views of tea plants carpeting the slopes. The trail, lined with graceful Deodhar trees on one side, made the walk even more delightful.
After a leisurely kilometre-long walk, we reached the estate around 12:30 pm. July being off-season, there were hardly any tourists, and the factory was relatively quiet as most activity happens in the morning hours. Nevertheless, the staff kindly conducted a tour of the factory, explaining the tea-making process in detail, followed by a tea tasting session. The tour costs ₹100 per person.
Happy Valley Tea Estate is definitely worth a visit when in Darjeeling - for its peaceful atmosphere, stunning surroundings and a chance to relish the essence of Darjeeling tea.

Not a very famous spot, and that’s exactly what makes it special. Happy Villa Tea Estate is peaceful, uncrowded, and full of natural charm. Once you reach here, the breathtaking views will surely surprise you.
You can capture some stunning photos amidst the lush tea gardens and enjoy a panoramic view of the Darjeeling town from this serene spot. A hidden gem that truly deserves more attention!
Nice experience. They did sell me very expensive tea though which was available online for lesser price. The tea was great no doubt. The estate is beautiful. Its a steep walk down and up to the estate.
Very informative tour of the tea factory and some delicious free samples of the different types of tea which we could then buy boxes of if wanted. We were also free to wander the beautiful tea plantations.
I didn’t visit the tea factory itself, but I did enjoy the beautiful views of the town and the stunning hills of West Bengal as I walked down the road. Just a friendly reminder! what goes down must come back up! 😂 I ended up walking all the way down toward the Darjeeling side and came back up through the village, which took me about 30 to 40 minutes.

Darjeeling Zoo, officially known as Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, is one of the most unique zoos I’ve ever visited. Nestled on the hilly slopes of Darjeeling, it’s not just a zoo—it feels like a walk through a peaceful, forested sanctuary with crisp mountain air all around.
What makes this zoo special is its focus on high-altitude Himalayan animals. You’ll find red pandas, snow leopards, Himalayan wolves, and even a majestic black panther if you’re lucky. The enclosures are pretty spacious, and most of them blend naturally with the surroundings, which makes it feel less like a typical zoo and more like an animal reserve.
One of the highlights for me was seeing the red pandas up close—they’re adorable and quite active! The snow leopards, though lazy, were a treat to spot. There’s also a mountaineering institute within the premises that’s worth a quick stop if you’re into adventure history.
Walking around the zoo can be a bit tiring since it's on a slope, so comfortable shoes are a must. It’s clean, well-maintained, and offers great photo opportunities, especially on clear days with views of the surrounding hills.
Entry fees are very reasonable, and it's a great place for both kids and adults to learn about Himalayan wildlife. I would definitely recommend adding it to your Darjeeling itinerary if you love animals or simply want a peaceful escape for an hour or two.

One of the best high-altitude zoos in India! Located in the scenic hills of Darjeeling, this zoo is home to rare and endangered Himalayan animals including the red panda, Asiatic black bear, Royal Bengal tiger, white tiger, leopard, and even the elusive snow leopard.
The zoo is well-maintained and focused on conservation and breeding programs, especially for red pandas and Himalayan wolves. The enclosures are natural-looking and spacious, though be prepared for a bit of walking uphill due to the hilly terrain.

The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, better known as the Darjeeling Zoo, is one of the most unique zoos in India and a must-visit while in town. Established in 1958, it is the highest-altitude zoo in the country, located at around 7,000 feet above sea level. Unlike many other zoos, this one specializes in conserving and breeding endangered Himalayan species, which makes it very special.
The zoo is home to rare animals such as the Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Wolf, and Clouded Leopard. Seeing these magnificent creatures in a habitat designed close to their natural environment is truly memorable. The enclosures are well-planned and spread out, and the hilly terrain of the zoo itself makes walking through it an experience in nature. The greenery, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings make it very different from crowded city zoos.
Another highlight is the adjacent Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), which you can explore along with the zoo. It adds to the overall experience, especially for those interested in trekking and mountaineering history.
On the downside, the zoo involves a lot of walking and climbing, which might be tiring for elderly visitors. Also, some enclosures could use better signage and maintenance.

Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park is situated in Darjeeling. This Zoo is famous for sambar, deer, and Siberian Tiger and the famous Red Panda. You can enjoy the area.
There is most important thing that is Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum. There museum is really fantastic. Those who have interest in the Himalaya, should love this museum.

Here I am reviewing zoo.. I don't normally go to Zoos as I don't like seeing wild animals in captivity. However, you have have to go through the zoo to get to the mountaineering museum! So, on that basis I am reviewing it. Apparently the red pandas have been successfully bred here and have been released back into the wild. As far as zoos go, this one is particularly beautiful and has used the natural environment for the construction of the enclosures that the animals have been kept in. It was amazing seeing some of the animals close up.
PS :- The place has many benches to sit, a small restaurant, clean washrooms too. It's very convenient for travelers. One way road so have to walk much.

You can dress up as locals and can take some pictures.Apart from the animals and birds scenic beauty of this place is unique. This is must do 2-3hrs attraction when you are in Darjeeling.

Monastery
Ghoom Monastery, also known as Yiga Choeling Monastery, is a serene Buddhist site located on the mountainside and associated with the Yellow Hat sect. Built in the 1850s, it is renowned for its 15-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha and intricate Tibetan Buddhist artwork that offers a profound insight into Buddhist philosophy and culture. The monastery houses a valuable collection of manuscripts, including the revered 108-volume Kangyur.
On 22nd February 2024, we visited this place. Upon arrival, we were asked to take off our shoes before entering, which added to the calm and respectful atmosphere. As we stepped inside, we were amazed by the soothing music playing in the background. It immediately created a peaceful vibe, and we naturally slipped into a short meditation. It was incredibly relaxing and a beautiful way to start our visit.

The peaceful and one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling. It looked beautiful and peaceful. Go there in morning, I stay for 10 minutes clicked some pictures of view and left. The monastery consist of a monk school lots of little monks are seen, but they usually not allow to take pictures of them.
The monastery is located slightly away from the- about a 20 minute drive from Darjeeling town, on the main Siliguri - Darjeeling road. There is parking next to the road, while you need to take the steps to reach the location. The inside of the monastery is beautiful and calm. Photography is permitted inside. There is a small cafe outside in the courtyard, which is very reasonably priced. Worth a visit if you are coming to Darjeeling anytime soon

A peaceful and beautiful place to visit! 🛕 When I went, it wasn’t crowded at all, which made the experience calm and special 😌. Inside the Buddhist monastery, one of the bhikṣus (monks) kindly called me over and offered me something to eat and drink 🥣🍵—such a heartwarming gesture. They even allowed me to take a photo with them 📸, which made the visit extra memorable.
While exploring, I actually saw how they make bags and decorative hanging items 👜🎐. The elderly women working there were so warm and kind—it truly touched my heart ❤️.
There’s also a small museum to explore 🖼️📚, which adds more depth to the visit. The locals were friendly and full of stories 😊, and by chatting with them I learned some interesting things about the culture and history 🗣️📖.
Oh, and the cute little dogs around the monastery 🐶 were just adorable and super friendly too!

The other viewpoint also offers a nice panoramic view of the valley and the lush greenery around.
What makes this place even more special is its simplicity — no rush, no vendors shouting, just pure tranquility. There’s even a small area where you can do light workouts or stretching while breathing in the fresh mountain air.

However be careful with the 5rs. Scam that happens at ticket counter. He hides 5 rs. And says he doesn't have change and demands you to pay 30₹.
The garden is very nice and must spend time with good benches also put.
You can easily spend couple of hours here, just relaxing.

Shrubbery Nightingale Park is a peaceful, green retreat in Darjeeling with lovely lawns, colorful flowers, and a striking Shiva statue by a small lake. It’s just a short walk from the Mall, costs INR 25 to enter, and is open 8 AM-8 PM. Great for a quick, relaxing stroll or picnic. Sadly, when we visited, clouds blocked the Kanchenjunga views, which was a letdown. The toilets were also unclean, which made the experience less pleasant. Still, it’s a nice spot for some calm if the weather cooperates!

One of the best parks I have been to and that too with a view that kills! You will be able to find a wide range of flowers, most of which you'll probably see for the first time. They do have a temple at the top and a fountain which was not working when I visited. Plenty of greenery to sit, soak up the nature and recharge. Do definitely visit this place to at least just chill around. They do have an entry fee of 25 per person I think
An absolute delight to visit this awesome park on the way to Darjeeling Zoo from the Darjeeling Mall. For a small fee, you will get to enjoy this well maintained park. I visited on a cloudy day, but on a clear day you may get to see the surrounding valley. Cafe and washrooms are available. Don’t skip this park.
The park itself is good. But the view point is not as good. Lack of maintenance! I'm not sure about the peak season. Just before diwali the condition is not good.

🪑 Lots of benches, lawn space, and peaceful corners to relax. A great spot for families and kids too.

St. Andrew’s Church is a very beautiful historic church situated on a hill overlooking the city of Darjeeling with sweeping views of the valley below. It’s a very calm, tranquil and peaceful setting. The church itself was originally constructed in 1843 and rebuilt an 1873 after the original church was damaged due to lightning. I visited in January, 2025 on a Sunday and the gates were locked So I was only able to view the church from the exterior. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Darjeeling.

The Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre is located at the top of a hill just out of Darjeeling town. Learn about the history of Tibetan through a few rooms of photography. Walk upstairs to see weavers at work making carpets and clothing. The room with the dyed wools was amazing. We enjoyed our chat with the volunteer in the wool room. There is also a small shop selling handicrafts and a small convenience store.
This is an old post but a 2025 post indeed. Visited the place with family with great excitement but couldn't find much of stuff. Things were very common which can easily be found in Delhi markets.
But reaching the place was really exciting as the route was steep and the driver had some skills. Loved the surroundings of the place and the cute houses therein, people and their pets both were sooooo cute and welcoming. Great view around for photography.
Such a wonderful place to visit. People there are very welcoming, I got bonded to their smiling faces. Some elders also offered life advice and shared their story as well. I felt completely relaxed talking to them. Inspite of their age, they work very hard and make handmade products. They sort, dye the wool and make beautiful rugs and other stuff. Kindly support them if you visit.
It was indeed an amazing experience to be there. The photo gallery, their own loom, handicrafts have stored their remnants from a faded Tibetan past. This place is a must visit if you are around Darjeeling.

Tibetan refugee self help centre houses nearly 200 Tibetan refugees that came to India in 1959 along with Dalai Lama. Most are elderly born in Tibet while some are born and brought up in India. History of Tibet through Chinese invasion is displayed through photographs. Old archives, maps, artifacts and photographs are on disply. There self help centre makes many handicrafts and one should buy them as a gesture. Though the problem of Tibet remains unsolved the people here are optimistic.

One of the best things that happened to me during my visit to darjeeling was at Dali monastry.
It was a rainy day in the month of august 2025, we hired a vehicle for sight seeing and returning back from Lamhatta.. as per our driver it was like any other monastry so not to waste our time by visiting it..but since we skipped the tiger hills due to the bad weather so i insisted him to visit Dali monastry atleast for 10 mins..so he agreed ..me along with my wife reached the monastry at about 4pm.
The main monastry was at the top as we proceeded upwards we were surprised to reach the area. The monastry was very beautifully built covered with fog at that time(due to the weather) which has further enhanced its beauty.. the sounds of chanting could be heard from inside the main building so we thought it might be restricted to enter during prayers.. so we hurriedly clicked some pictures outside itself and thought to Move out as the driver was waiting in the car..
The sound of chanting attracted me so i moved to the entrance area and was listening to it very cautiously.. a monk noticed me and asked me to enter to inside ..which was not expected..(felt very happy) I didnot think twice and immediately entered ..where i saw about 100’s of monks chanting together.. uttering same words.. some beating the drums and some playing gayling(from mouth).. which collectively was though loud but was very peaceful..all monk were sitting in groups(lanes) i felt like each of them has their own responsibility in the prayer.. they also offered us hot tea amidst the prayer.. It felt like nothing could be more peaceful than sitting inside the prayer hall..
ignoring the drivers continous call we spent inside the hall for about an hour.
I wish i could stay there for some more time but bound by the drivers time we decided to leave..
If i had not visited dali monastry that day i would had missed a big day in my life .. It had silently taught me more life lessons which is difficult to describe in words..
so for me its a must visit place 🙏
Dali monastery Very nice place, so peaceful and beautiful.
Inside there’s huge statue of lord buddha. There’s a scenic view from outside, you can witness whole Darjeeling from there, Beside this there’s a museum where you can find the antique and unique weapon's and things that used to be used on that time.
You can see the toy train passing from the main gate of this monastery.
One should definitely visit Dali monastery if you’re coming to darjeeling, such a spiritual and happening place.

One can get an excellent view of the tea plantations during journey through the ropeway.The journey lasts approximately 10 minutes for one way ride. It is closed once every month for maintenance. Ticket price is ₹160 per person for a 2 way ride.Each carriage has seating provision for 4 people only.The ropeway links to a park downhill.
The Darjeeling Ropeway offers an awesome view of the hills and valleys, truly a scenic experience.
However, the place needs some maintenance, and the waiting time is usually 30–40 minutes. Ticket quota is very limited each day, so you have to stand in queue at least 2 hours before it starts to book tickets. Great views, but the overall management could be better.
Great view, must visit. Ride will last around 30 minutes and price is 200 per person. You will get to see many tea gardens and beautiful mountains surroundings.
It's a good and adventurous experience. As a tourist must try for the view. Not the best because we have had a lot of ropeway experience and those services were far better but this is nice with breathtaking views.
Opens at 10am. Keep in mind that no digital payment is available at the ticket counter. The queue starts from 8am onwards. Almost 2 hours, It would take to get in the cable car. The solo travelers need not stay in the second queue after the ticket issuance, it's a positive.
Overall , It's worth an adventure over the tea garden.

It was pretty high cliff the walk, but the experience was good. Beware of monkeys, the could steal your footwear. Apart from that, the experience was so good that I cannot express much. It was a blissful place with multiple Sanctum of different Hindu Deities. The main attraction was Mahakal Temple. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

All of Darjeeling seems to be on the mall during evening time. As we visited on two days one of which was a holiday the shops were all closed and only restaurants were open. You can try the several eateries, do shopping for jackets or souvenirs and tea here or just stroll along the road.
One of the vibrant streets that i will never forget in my life, it was that great experience for us, we planned to go for a short walk through the streets to experience the city, but it kept us for a long time, the vibe there is completely different than anything, the lights, the people, the climate and especially the unexpected fogs that making the streets more beautiful, we really enjoyed there,
If you visit Darjeeling, it is not only the UNESCO Heritage trains, it’s also the mall street which will give you an entire different experience,

Senchal Lake is a stunning location in Darjeeling, India, supplying most of the area's drinking water. It is surrounded by the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, one of India's oldest wildlife sanctuaries and covering about 40 square kilometers. Great scenic beauty. A mid size rock is there for trekking. Charges 100 rs per head. But the area is small and crowded. Some small shops are associated here for winter clothing, street foods and all. If you are a trekking lover you can definitely visit this place. No doubt this place is beautiful.

When we visited it, there were about two dozen visitors there, some actually attempting to climb the rock. Good spot to give training in rock climbing or mountain climbing.

Lloyd Botanical Garden, also known as Lloyd's Botanical Garden of Darjeeling, is a nature preserve located near Chowk Bazaar in Darjeeling. Established in 1878, it spans 40 acres and features a diverse range of indigenous Himalayan plants as well as exotic species from around the world. Visitors can explore walking paths amidst over 2,500 orchids, cacti, weeping willows from China and Japan, and a stunning rock garden.
A great place for a leisurely nature walk with the trails marked with trees and birds. Better to have an entire afternoon admiring nature and our place in it. With the area that this is spread across, it would be a shame to rush through it all and that is perhaps why it is usually free from tourists looking for a five (or seven!) point sightseeing tour. The maps printed at the corners might be difficult to understand but that adds to the adventure!

But after going to this place you will feel as if you have paid ₹500 for this ticket. It is a very lovely botanical garden. You must definitely visit here and it is very beautiful flowers, very nice road, you will find very nice people. Now you can definitely go here and spend one, two-three hours comfortably here.

It was a great experience to visit this place on a full monsoon day. Though a gush of showers delayed our journey by an hour, it empowered the stream by many folds. The green hills, pretty pines and the silvery stream with colorful flowers and water polished shining rocks make the place really beautiful. It may take up to 2 hours iff people want to explore all the paths of the garden. With short cut routes, it may take an hour to reach the top point and return.
Nice place with many waterfalls and a pathway all the way to the top. Ideal spot for photos and selfies with friends and family. There are traditional costumes available for photo shoot. Many big rocks are there, some are present like an arch over the pathway. Also there is a small swimming spot for fun purpose.

One of the most breathtaking parts about the Darjeeling station is the view it offers. One side of the station opens up directly to a sweeping view of the valley. When we visited, the weather turned magical — light rain had filled the entire valley with mist and clouds, and the same mist started gently flowing into the station itself. The cold, fresh air and the feeling of literally standing amidst the clouds was surreal, making the whole experience unforgettable. The station has three platforms, and it's fascinating to know that all train movements till Ghum are managed entirely through visual and hand signals, without any modern electronic signaling.
If you plan to take a ride, it is highly recommended to book your tickets well in advance through IRCTC, especially for the Steam Joyride, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Watching the steam engine work its magic — the raw power, the hissing steam, and the rhythmic chugging — is something you don’t want to miss. However, while the train rides are beautiful, the station itself does need serious improvements. The platform surroundings were quite dirty, mainly due to people littering, but the authorities too seem to have neglected regular maintenance. The condition of the washrooms was particularly bad, making them almost unusable.
Despite the maintenance issues, the station has a charming vibe with a few small vendors selling snacks and woolen clothes. We grabbed a cup of steaming hot masala corn, which was absolutely delicious in the chilly weather. We also picked up a woolen cap, and the quality was genuinely impressive. In the end, while the Darjeeling Railway Station captures the old-world charm of the DHR and offers unforgettable views and experiences, there is a strong need for better cleanliness and facilities to truly do justice to its UNESCO heritage status.

Apparently, Mall road is very lengthy and Britishers used it for walking is what I got to know from my taxi driver.
This particular chowrasta has a big open air theatre, fountains, small tea shops, and some benches to rest. One can have a good view of the hills and pine tree though a lot of power lines cross cross it. If one further takes a walk down the mall road, there are a lot of shops and landmarks of Darjeeling.

It is a junction for all roads leading from/to Gandhi road. Very busy streets at Evenings. If you are bookings hotels/resorts after this juncture, you may need walk as this is vehicles not allowed zone due to some security reasons due to government residence nearby. Check before you book any resorta near to 'Chowrasta'.

Darjeeling Zoo, also known as the Zoological Park, is a popular destination for animal lovers. It houses a diverse range of wildlife, with over 1,200 animals including rare species like snow leopards, wolves, and red pandas. Notably, it's the only zoo in India that runs conservation breeding programs. Visitors are particularly drawn to the charming red pandas and majestic snow leopards.
One of my favourite spot when I am at Darjeeling, I can spend hours here. There are 2 museums inside the Zoo. Special attractions are Snow Leopard and Red Panda. Best part about the zoo is it is super clean and totally silent zone. Security persons are super helpful, No matter how many times I visit there I feel like going there again

Darjeeling Zoo, officially the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, is one of the best places to explore rare Himalayan wildlife. Good zoological park with lots of wild animals and birds. Nice walkways. Each cell is labelled well. The entire area is clean and tidy, The staff are very supportive. In an hour you can take a good view of all the animals. Each animal is kept in a replica of its natural habitat. Good experience it was.

When we visited, the place was completely empty and there was no music playing until we walked in. The most disappointing part was the owner's attitude, who seemed uninterested and quite rude. It's sad to see a pub with such a nice setting being wasted due to a clear lack of effort and poor customer service. I hope they can improve their hospitality and liven up the space.

I recently visited Joey’s Pub in Darjeeling and had a really pleasant experience. The place has a warm and welcoming vibe and is conveniently located on the 1st floor of the building opposite Rink Mall.
The senior lady at the bar was extremely courteous and attentive. I was checking out their white wine, which wasn’t chilled at that moment, but she immediately took the initiative to get it chilled for me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay long enough to try it this time, but I’ll definitely be back on my next visit to enjoy it properly.
Overall, a very nice and friendly spot — perfect for relaxing after exploring the town. Highly recommended! 🍷

The viewpoint is best visited during autumn for clear skies and an unobstructed view of the majestic peaks. To get there, go to Darjeeling Mall and take the road towards Mahakal Temple. After about 5 minutes of walking, you'll reach the viewpoint where the road turns left. If there is no cloud then this place will give you the best view of kanchanjungha from Darjeeling. There is also several point within walking distance which give different angle. The day we visit this place was a pleasant day. Total range was visible with bright blue sky. Undoubtedly a good view point .
I couldn't see kanchenjunga mountain due to cloudy weather. But the view from here is superb. You can sit, have one sip of coffee and enjoy the nature.
I am in lack of adjectives to describe about this stunning view point. In the time of Sunrise this place provides an amazing view of the entire Sleeping Buddha range. It's really a treat to the eyes and lifetime experience I must say.

By far the best pizzas in D-town. It is wood fired pizzas expertly crafted by an Italian (yes…no kidding). The pepperoni and the mushroom ones were particularly good. It also has decent cocktails and the interiors done by Namgyal is archy and pleasing to the eye. The events are also well curated with good service, music and an excellent crowd.

It is simply great experience. It's located away from crowdy Darjeeling town, the place is great for a pleasant and calm stay. Mountains are visible from the broad window. Ropeway can be seen too. Service is great. Uncle is great, he takes due care of guests. Food is tasty. Only thing rooms are a bit shabby, there is no long mirror, and there is some issue in electric line. Lights get automatically switched on/ off. Rooms are spacious. A bit cleaning and arranging staff would make it 100/100. It's pocket friendly as well.

The one thing that hits you as you visit this place is the humbleness of Mr Rajesh. He is a person with a golden heart. He makes you feel like a guest treats you like a guest and is always with a smile. I am trying my best at being modest but this man has so much in him to like. Being a one man army he is very helpful and tries his best to fulfil all tantrums which the tourists bring to him. Generally people are circumspect being in an unknown place, but this man literally makes you feel at home. Special mention to the food he serves its just yummy.This is not a luxurious place but just apt for tourists also there is a car park very near to this property. The clock chime in a chilled night from North Point School was so beautiful.I Will have only good words for this place and Mr Rajesh and his friend Kenny who was there during our visit. May God help them to have success in life.

Two large rooms which can sleep 5 people each (if you don't mind sharing beds) and another room which can sleep 2 people comfortably.
All three rooms have attached bathrooms with electric hot water geysers.
On clear days, the views from the rooms can be pretty spectacular. Even the Kanchenjunga mountains can be seen from the rooms.
The cable cars/ropeway passes by the homestay and can be a very interesting experience watching the reactions of people inside the cars.
Dikki, the owner's sister, is the lady who will be responsible for cooking your meals and hosting you. She is a polite, warm and cherubic person. The meals prepared by her are quite simple, yet delicious. The perfect example of a home cooked meal.
Mr. Rajesh Pradhan, the owner, is a soft spoken, polite and helpful man.
If he has time on his hands then he will personally attend to you.
The Darjeeling Ropeway Homestay is for people who like the rustic experience of a home rather than people looking for posh and blingy hotel experiences.
If you are looking to have the experience of a hotel when you stay here, then this place is not for you.
Here, you will be treated as family and not just a paying customer. And if you can reciprocate in kind then your stay will be wonderful.

The most awesome thing of this Homestay is the location. You will get a good view of the 'Queen of Hills'.
Foods are good, but not that much spicy. Those people who are health conscious will love it.

The rooms are a bit shabby but the woman in charge is very warm and welcoming. She took very good care of us and tried her best to make us feel comfortable. The view was great, St Joseph's on one side and ropeway on the other. I hope they will maintain their rooms better.

The Himalayan Tibet Museum is an unexpected hidden gem in Darjeeling. Only 50 rupees to enter and you could easily spend an hour here and still not read everything. What is most impressive is the interior decoration. Beautifully painted beams, diaromas and displays. A scale model of Potala Palace as soon as you enter. The museum covers Tibetan Buddhism, the Tibetan people and the life and times of the Dalai Lama. The basement floor is a life history and photographs of the current Dalai Lama. Staff here are super friendly. Well worth the visit.

I randomly stumbled upon the Himalayan Tibet Museum while walking near Mall Road – and I’m so glad I did. It’s a small but beautiful space filled with Tibetan culture, history, and spirituality. You’ll see thangka paintings, prayer wheels, Buddha statues, old photographs, and even a 3D map of Tibet. Everything is arranged with so much care and meaning.
The lady at the counter was very kind and explained a few things with such passion—it really added to the experience. It’s quiet inside, very calming, and makes you feel connected to something deeper.
Spent about 30–40 minutes here. The ticket is just ₹50 per person, which is honestly nothing for the kind of peace and learning you get in return.
If you’re in Darjeeling and want a short break from the crowd, do visit. It’s not a “big” museum, but it leaves a big impact.

It was a 10mins walk from my hotel and I thought to check it out. It is easily one of the best museums in Darjeeling offering amazing insights into Tibetan history and culture. I highly recommend this to all history enthusiasts.

We went there at 4.30am. there were already around 50 cars and hundreds of tourists present before us.
There is no observatory here. You just pick a spot and hope to see the view of the mountains especially The Kanchanjunga. If it's a cloudy day then you won't.
Pick a place near the North East corner so that you can see the sunrise and the mountain together. There's an under construction building where you can sit as well. There are a few vendors who serve momo, maggie and some tea.
TIP : Ask your driver to park the car far so that you can get out of the place soon. Or else it'll take easily around 45 -60 mins just to come out of the traffic jam.

Tiger Hill is an absolute must-visit when you're in Darjeeling. Waking up early for the sunrise is totally worth it — the view of the first rays hitting the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga is nothing short of magical. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Everest!
The crowd gathers quite early, so I recommend arriving before 4:30 AM to get a good spot. Dress warmly, as it gets quite chilly in the early morning. There’s a viewing tower available, but the open hill area has its own charm too.
Vendors selling hot tea and snacks nearby really add to the experience — sipping on Darjeeling tea while watching the Himalayas glow orange is unforgettable. The roads up are a bit narrow and winding, so be ready for a bumpy but scenic drive.

Tiger Hill is truly one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited. Watching the sunrise from this viewpoint is nothing short of magical. As the first rays of the sun touch the snow-capped peaks of the Kanchenjunga, the sky lights up with shades of orange, pink, and gold — a sight that stays with you forever.
The early morning chill, the peaceful atmosphere, and the panoramic view of the Himalayan range make the entire experience unforgettable. If you're lucky and the sky is clear, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Everest in the distance!
The place is well-organized with a dedicated observatory and proper viewing platforms. I highly recommend reaching early to get a good spot and enjoy a cup of hot tea from the local vendors while waiting for nature’s show to begin.

If you're coming to Darjeeling, then YOU CANNOT MISS THIS PLACE! I visited in mid January. And luckily, there was zero fog 😭 Kanchenjunga looks so BEAUTIFUL and MESMERIZING when the first rays of sun falls on it. It gives a pinkish, orangish, yellowish colour. It was so DREAMY!
(But it's really crowdy and really cold 🥶 Don't forget to wear nice warm clothes)

Though the colonial name is still in use, no horseracing takes place nowadays. It's used as a helipad as the Indian Army takes its control. Also cultural and sporting events are arranged throughout the year. Mesmerizing views of Darjeeling can be envisaged from here.
It's old name is racecourse now u can call it lebong or cricket bazaar mainly u will find defence area surrounded by army area u can easily fined vehicles to go Darjeeling or anywhere. There is very old temple situated in cave local people used to call M.E.S Durga Mandir. It's very famous temple.

It is one of the oldest race course and it was built by the British India though you cannot see race course any more but you can see Army cantonment there which is one of the cleanest place in Darjeeling
Earstwhile used to be a a race course during British occupation of India, now under the management of Lebong Cantonment board management and controlled by Army. Entry is strictly restricted. Now this ground houses the only helipad in Darjeeling area. Though there isn't much remaining to see now, remenants of viewers pavilion (on to the right hand side of the gate), the horse stables (far left corner) and probably the ticket counter (far end) can be seen from the main gate (photography is strictly not permitted. So you may encounter further disappointment). It's located on the spur originating from observatory Hill which houses the race course and ends at Rungeet river to the north east through Badamtam Tea Estate. To it's North West slope lies the Phubshering Tea estate and on the southern slope is the Ging Tea Estate. The view from the race course is not much but a good view can be seen from Chitrey bazaar which is enroute to Lebong in the hill cart road.

Between your rides to and fro, they will give a break for around 20-30 minutes where you can explore the museum. This is the highest railway station of India. And its the UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you onboard to the Toy Train joy ride from Darjeeling Station then it will be the last stop. You can visit Ghum Museum just beside the railway station. Lovely experience!
Ever since we planned the trip to Darjeeling, I was excited about the Gym station and boarding the toy train. Ghum is really a nostalgic place to hang out. You can spend hours by just looking at the people and trains moving.

We visited ghum railway station on the month of august 2025 during our steam engine Joyride travel from Darjeeling to Ghum and spent about 30mins in ghum.
The weather was rainy and cold..so having a cup of milk tea from a shop in the railway station delivered a sort of temporary relief to me. We (turn by turn)clicked many pictures here and there all around the station as we never visited such old station earlier before

The 100 foot high stone tower features four clock faces, was built in the year 1920. The tower is a significant historical landmark that reflects the british colonial period of India.
There’s something quietly magical about the moment when I first spot the Darjeeling Clock Tower in the heart of the town—its elegant stone façade rising amid the swirl of activity. Historically constructed between 1917 and 1921, this 100-foot tower was part of the colonial-era municipality and Town Hall, and its sturdy silhouette still commands attention today.  
I find myself drawn into the lively energy of the surrounding Chowrasta–Chauk Bazaar area, where the tower stands as a timeless sentinel. Locals and visitors weave around street vendors selling tea, snacks, and handicrafts. The tick of the clock and the faint chime every hour feel like the heartbeat of Darjeeling, marking time as effortlessly as the rolling mist drifts across the hills.  
As I step closer to admire its architectural charm—neo-Gothic and neoclassical elements blending seamlessly—the distant hills peek through gaps in the rooftops, offering a perfect contrast between natural grandeur and human history.  
Nightfall brings a different kind of allure. The clock tower glows softly under warm lighting, transforming into a beacon of nostalgia against the cool mountain air and shadowed outlines of Darjeeling’s colonial buildings. It evokes an era gone by, yet remains vibrantly alive in the present.

Very good hotel. The location is quiet far from all the prime eateries. If you are craving for affordable and local food this hotel is a no no. There are no taxis around and the walk to the taxi point and main road is too far. If you stay here you would have to dine your dinner in their restaurant. Food is pricey, most of the items are not available. They take too long to serve you. They have an good breakfast spread and Chef Karanveen was courteous to check on our feedback and requirements. However we were very disaappointed with the biryani we were served in the name of dum biryani. Despite specifically mentioning we wanted dum biryani we were served hyderabad biryani after a wait of 40mins. Very frustrating. However Sanjay and the manager on duty ensured we got served the desired biryani after a short wait. Appreciate their effort to ensure we left on a happy note.

Kids play area is nice and may be improved. Mr. Ruchen conducted some activities for kids as well as adults, which are fun and entertaining. We enjoyed the activities.
I stayed with my family and friends for 3 nights after misunderstanding of rooms and was sorted by manager of the property and reception staff next day all was good.

The well-curated exhibits, along with the adjoining Everest Museum, provide deep insights into the challenges and triumphs of Himalayan adventures. The lush surroundings and stunning views of Kanchenjunga add to the charm. A must-visit for adventure enthusiasts and history buffs!
Best part of my day was spent here. The pictures aren't allowed inside. So I couldn't take any. But I'll brief on what exactly made my experience here a memorable one.
The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is one of the premium institutes in India. You may as well call it the IIT of mountaineering. We met an administrative officer, who explains us about the institute, his own experience and about the students. The stories were chilling and mind blowing.
Now coming to the museum. You'll see the equipment and the rug sacks carried by The great Tensing Norgay, Sir Edmond Hillary, the paper cut outs of the Legendary mountaineers and their life. You need atleast 1.30 hours to read all these. See the photos.
Check out the Himalayan Range simulators. You'll definitely feel so small in front of these mountains and these OG mountaineers.

St. Paul's School is a private boarding school for boys in the town of Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. It is known as "Eton of the East" because it is thought to follow the similar cultural and traditional values of Eton College. St. Paul's is one of the oldest public schools in Asia. Entrance tests for admission are held every September. The school follows the ICSE curriculum until class 10 and the ISC curriculum for classes 11 and 12.
One of the oldest school in Darjeeling with nice architecture and large campus. Can’t comment much on the education system as I am not an alumni or not even remotely related to one, however I have heard good things about the school. It has been shooting location for a lot of Bollywood movies too. I was there to explore the campus. Loved the architecture, the church and the large trees!
It's the best school in the continent. This school has a glorious past that superseded it's beauty. The nature and scenic view of this school is breathtaking. Ava Art Gallery, established in 1965, is a colorful museum located just 4 kilometers outside of Darjeeling town center. Founded by the renowned embroidery artist Ava Devi and Bhopal Rao Sett, this two-story gallery showcases oil, water, and thread paintings. The gallery's vibrant exterior makes it hard to miss as you drive along the main highway towards Darjeeling. Visitors can explore the eccentric beauty of the hill town through Ava Devi's unique artworks.
Ava Art Gallery was established in the year 1965 by Late Ava Devi who was known as a genius of embroidery art, and Bhopal Rao Sett. Ava Art Gallery is the only art gallery of its kind in Darjeeling. When you enter inside, one would get to see a permanent collection of sixty pieces of exquisite artwork of Ava Devi including water, oil and thread paintings.
There are two special paintings in the gallery that one must not miss. The first one is called "Still Strong" and the other one as "Torture" that reflect Ava Devi's outstanding talent and skills in the field of artwork.
The gallery opens from 8 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon and and again opens from 1 in the afternoon till 5 in the evening. Please note that photography is not permitted inside.

The room is very dirty, the toilet is very dirty. It smells very bad. If you want you can go for such travelling but it is not recommended!
Small gallery on first floor in one big room. Average traveller can skip this point of interest. But if you have keen interest in embroidery, you should visit this. On January 2018, ticket was Rs. 5 per head.
Ava Art Gallery is the only art gallery in Darjeeling, holding local history and some of the most beautiful art works done by Ava Devi. But the overall condition is below average. Maybe the authority has no idea and knowledge about it. The gallery is totally untidy and the artifacts are not conserved properly. Even there is no security or anyone who would guide you. When we visited, there was a Fuchka-saller near the gallery who kept the keys of the gallery, opened the doors for us after a long wait. He also charged money for that. It was totally heartbroken to see such kind of negligence.
A good place to visit in Darjeeling if you are into arts and stuffs. Entry fee is only 5rs. Photography is strictly not allowed inside and any defaulter to this rule will be penalised with a fine of 1000rs.

It is a small Railway museum on the first floor of the Ghum Railway Station. The old engines, wagons of the trains and parked near the Ghum Railway station for public display. The museum also has the old technological tools used in the Darjeeling Himalayan railways. It is useful and children can learn the history of Himalayan railways.

Walking through the tea gardens of Darjeeling was honestly one of the most calming experiences of my trip. Everywhere you look, it’s just endless rows of green tea bushes gently curving along the hills, with soft mist floating through the air. It felt like nature was slowing everything down.
The sound of leaves being plucked, the cool breeze, and the smell of fresh tea leaves all around—it was like stepping into a peaceful painting. I even stopped for a tea tasting, and the first flush Darjeeling tea was amazing—light, floral, and so fresh. I bought a few packets to bring a piece of that calm back home.

The Darjeeling Tea Garden is a really nice place to visit if you’re in the area. The tea plantations are scenic, with green hills and that cool misty air you expect in Darjeeling. Perfect for taking in the views or snapping a few pics!
You can also try fresh Darjeeling tea—it tastes good, very different than anything I’ve had before!

Do not buy tea here. It is completely fake. When you ask for Happy valley tea estate drivers definitely take you to this place and there is a small tea garden behind the stalls and you can experience tea trees there, but limit your experience only to that part. Tea sellers there sell tea by making you test good tea but the stuff they sell in sealed packets is just fake material.
If you really want to buy then take risk and ask them to open one packet convincing them that you will pay for it and make tea from that packet, buy it only if you feel that tastes good. I'm sure they will not do that.
The Darjeeling tea garden is beautiful! You can see endless tea plants and hills. Walking around is really nice. Plus, there are shops on the roadside where you can buy amazing Darjeeling tea. It's a great place to enjoy nature and get some delicious tea. 🍵🌿 #SimpleJoys

Government office
Lal Kothi, also known as Gori Wilas, is a historic bungalow in Darjeeling with a rich past. Built by Maharaja Prasad Nath Roy in memory of his wife, it is often likened to Darjeeling's own Taj Mahal. The building boasts beautiful gardens, manmade waterfalls, and ponds offering stunning views of Kanchenjunga.
Nice experience. You can enjoy a cup of darjeeling tea which is incl. in the ticket.I don't know why they chose to paint it blue.It was originally red as the name suggests (Lal Kothi).

Lal Kothi is one of the oldest building in Darjeeling. It was formerly known as Gori Wilas which was built by Prasad Nath Roy, the then Maharaja of Cooch Behar, in the loving memory of his beloved wife queen Bhawani Dewan Roy and it was not less than Taj Mahal for him.
It is situated in one of the most beautiful hillocks of Darjeeling hills. lal Kothi was in its full glory during the British raj, it was the most popular venue for the parties organised by the royal family.
The British left the place vacant after the Indian Independence in the year 1947 and it was temporarily used as a Tibetan school until it was taken over by the Indian Government. It was transformed into a guest house at first and later it was converted as a holiday home for the Indian officers.
More than 20 Hindi and Bengali movies were shot in this location. The Kothi was later transformed into the DGHC secretariat and the office of the Chairman, DGHC and it was closed for the visitors for few decades. It is at present the office of the chief executive of GTA and the secretariat of GTA.
This is a govt property. So the Entry is controlled. Tourists are allowed on request when there is no Govt meeting etc.

Gorkhaland Territorial Administration or GTA is a semi-autonomous body for the hilly area of the Darjeeling District. Under the bill passed by West Bengal Legislative Assembly on 2nd September, 2011, GTA enjoys a limited executive as well as financial power. It is not only responsible for administration of the area under its jurisdiction, but it is also empowered to collect taxes and take up welfare measures for the improvement of the inhabitants. Education, health and tourism are the sole responsibility of the GTA. It however, has no legislative power. Their office is located at Lal Kuthi on Zakir Haussain Road.

Cemetery
The Old Cemetery in Darjeeling, declared a site of "National Importance" by the Archeological Survey of India, holds historical significance. It features graves dating back to the early 1940s, including those of notable figures such as Lt. Gen. George W. Aylmer Lloyd and Hungarian linguist Koros. This cemetery offers a glimpse into the colonial days of Darjeeling and commemorates British settlers who transformed the region's dense forests into tea estates.

Upper part of the cemetery is locked and closed for public as of sep 19th and doesn't reflect any rating for the same.

Neatly Maintained Cementry located just close to Government college Darjeeling. It's considering as one of the oldest Cemetery. You can see this cemetery on the way to Singamari when you take a taxi from Darjeeling town.
