Kangaroo Island was joined to Australian mainland approximately 10,000 years ago, before separating due to rising sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age. The ocean there is around 30-35m deep. It was calculated the last time it would have been possible to walk from the Fleurieu Peninsula across to Kangaroo Island was 10,000 years ago. I saw docile kangaroos (not afraid of humans) and the first visitors were an English crew onboard The Investigator. When Flinders and Baudin visited the island in 1802, no indication of inhabitants was found, and the kangaroos were so tame that they could be knocked on the head with a stick. This was the first time they had fresh meat in months and it was in bountiful supply. They were "delighted" when they discovered and consumed large numbers of unsuspecting kangaroos on the shoreline. Their Commander, Captain Matthew Flinders, recorded in his log “…in gratitude for so seasonable a supply, I named this southern land Kanguroo (sic) Island”. He later commented that the distance from the mainland, lack of fear of the kangaroos, and numbers of seals present “concurred with the absence of all traces of men to show that it was not inhabited”. A bang-a-boome-boomerang! Kangaroo Island experienced a series of visits by people of different nationalities in rapid succession. English, French and American sailors visited in 1802, 1803 and 1804 respectively. The number of French placenames such as Vivonne Bay and Cape du Couedic around the Island is a direct result of this early French connection. The area on Kangaroo Island now known as American River was named after a group of American sealers who camped there in 1803–04 and built a schooner, the Independence, from local timber. It was a sheltered harbor and resembles a river, especially at high tide. Its’ tasty kangaroos, and good water available right on the shoreline was a big draw card.

Loved every aspect of Penneshaws beachfront - very nice walkway right along the beach and another Penguin walk. Theres a brick built structure named "Hog Bay cairn" as Penneshaw was once called Hog Bay because pigs were released there by French Commander Nicholas Baudin in the early 1800s, and they thrived in the area. Sealers and early settlers later found the pigs, and the bay became known as "Hog Bay" due to the large number of them

Nice beach 🏖️ , clear water 💧 , clean environment, easy access, awesome walkway, clear sign 🪧 , quiet places, and fresh air breathable. It just nearby the penneshaw ferry ⛴️ terminal, but no public toilets and shower and or faucet ready. 🫶🏻❤️🦘

A nice beach to explore just before taking the return ferry back to the mainland. There's a few little areas to walk and see, or simply the beach to admire and relax. Car parking was limited and there are public toilets and a cafe nearby. Didn't see any penguins but there were quite an array of bird life in the area.

We walked along here soon after arriving on Kangaroo Island 🏝 In search of penguins though we didn’t see any. Peaceful and serene beach. Close to ferry, public toilets, cafes and car parking.

It’s a wonderful find. And outstanding ambience and food. The quiche is to die for. Coffee is probably the best you will find on the island. And the owner and staff are all super friendly. Highly recommended

Emu Bay Lavender Farm is an absolute gem on Kangaroo Island! The fields are stunning — especially when the lavender is in full bloom — and the scent in the air is just amazing. It’s a peaceful and picturesque spot that’s perfect for a relaxing visit. The café was a real highlight. The lavender scones with cream and jam were delicious, and the lavender ice cream is a must-try! It’s a unique and refreshing treat. The coffee was great too, and everything was served with a smile. The gift shop had a beautiful range of locally made lavender products — from oils and soaps to gourmet treats. Great quality and perfect for gifts or souvenirs. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, happy to share information about how the lavender is grown and harvested. Overall, Emu Bay Lavender Farm is a lovely stop for anyone visiting the island. Whether you're there for a quick coffee, a meal, or just a peaceful walk through the lavender fields, it’s well worth the visit.

Beautiful place to visit, stroll around and eat! Cute and quaint and peaceful. The Lavender Scones are SO GOOD!!! Bought some beautiful Lavender gifts to take back to the US!

Parking: accessible and plentiful! Really close to the cafe and store without impinging on the natural surroundings. A great little walk to see the different varieties of lavender through to the cafe! Food: 100/10! BEST food we had on KI. The lavender scone was soft, pillowy, perfectly crisp and hinted with lavender. We both had the eggs Benedict and WOW, fresh, flavourful, plentiful and perfectly filling. Drinks: abundance of great drinks to choose from. The coffee was AMAZING. Caramel milkshake was excellent too. They had a great variety of cold drinks from around the region, they had a great menu of teas and coffees and soft drinks. Environment: enriching to sit between the lavender fields, soft music, quiet environment, surrounded by beautiful lavender products made on the island. This little place immediately became our highlight as the service and staff were just as incredible. We WILL be back! We bought a tonne of things to take home with us and food, snacks, lavender items. A true highlight of the trip.

Scones amazing, delicious and huge! Cute shop. Great vibes. Ok coffee. We left with lots of lavender goodies - did not disappoint.

Mid Oct 2025 we popped into the Lavender Farm for lunch whilst touring northern parts of KI. We were surprised how busy it was but they found us a table and we had a lovely quiche and salad but I forgot they do lavendar scones - damn it, would have had some of those if I'd thought about it!

Gorgeous cafe in a serene country environment. Island souvenirs, self-care gifts, food, drinks, clothes, artwork, and alcohol some of the many options to purchase.

The restaurant is now more famous than the lavender garden. We ordered a scone, a big breakfast and a burger. The scone is huge! And you can taste lavender in it. The juice of today is also amazing. We ordered a cappuccino as well and it looks so nice. If you don't know what to drink, just try it.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Seal Bay Conservation Park in South Australia offers a unique wildlife encounter with around 1,000 Australian Sea Lions. It is the third-largest sea lion colony in Australia and the only place where visitors can get up close to these fascinating creatures accompanied by a National Parks ranger. The park, located about 45 minutes from Kingscote, provides self-guided boardwalk tours or guided beach tours led by a ranger.
It was off-peak and we did not reserve our tickets online beforehand. Thankfully, we still managed to join the 12:30pm guided tour in winter and had an amazing experience! Our guide, Mitch, was incredibly informative and made the whole tour a memorable one. It was such a special moment to see a few pups up close, truly unforgettable. The tour was well-organized and respectful of the wildlife. Highly recommend this unique and heartwarming experience!
Connie — Google review
What an amazing place! The tour guides were just wonderful and there were so many cute seal pups around. 10/10 would definitely visit again and recommend it to anyone visiting! Was great to hear about the conversation efforts and what they are doing to be protected. Such a beautiful natural wonder!
Jermaine G — Google review
We really enjoyed the beach tour with seals all around us. Our guide was great very knowledgeable about the seals. Only gripe is you only go onto the beach about 20 meter's from the steps but when you look at the advertising photo the tour is right down next to the water with seals everywhere so dont be disappointed with only just stepping onto the beach.
Craig L — Google review
Tq Mitch for the tour!! Highly recommend the guided tour as it does get you up close with the seals and you are given the opportunity to access their boardwalk and lookout point as well. We visited in winter where it was off peak and thus did not require us to book on advance. It was also great as the area was filled with seals actively moving around due to mating season.
Ju A — Google review
What a delightful place. So many sea lions! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made sure the sea lions came first while still delivering a wonderful experience.
Ange L — Google review
Seal Bay was by far our most favorite stop on the SeaLink day tour to Kangaroo Island. The tour is guided by professionals who you can ask questions about the wonderful sea lions. It was amazing to see them pretty close and in their natural habitat. 100% ethical!
Fan — Google review
A very enjoyable experience seeing the seals up close with an experienced guide. Lots of photo opportunities. As it was quite windy, it was hard to hear the guide at times, but just seeing the seals up close was enough. Definitely on your "must do on KI" list.
Helen P — Google review
Well worth a visit while on KI. If going there, would recommend booking a tour before you go (which is done on line). Tourguides are very informative. Would recommend anyone doing tour be prepared to walk up & down stairs, as well as a walking track to the stairs which is on an incline. Getting to beach (close to seals) also means going down a reasonable incline in soft sand. Also might need to consider if you need a park pass to get here (Note-this wasn't in place at time of this visit due to SA Govt incentive)

What a beautiful place for sunset. So glad my husband booked this place at just the right time. We had wallabies visit us on the lawn in front of the deck. 10/10! We were here on Saturday evening to enjoy the “Chef’s Menu”. It currently consists 8 courses. The composition is unique and insanely good. The ingredients are local from the island and of incredible quality. The prices are more than fair for what you get! The entire stay couldn't be topped - the food, the service, the location and all the employees and the owner made the evening something very special. If you would like to have a unique dining experience that is just excellent and fair priced, you should definitely eat here.

Me and my partner finally made it to this restaurant. Was sad to find out it closed its winery many years too late for us to try their wines. Good selection of wines from South Australia. Nestled on the north side of Kangaroo Island, Western River Cove is a hidden gem offering stunning views of farmland and the ocean. The bay is sheltered by rocky headlands, creating calm waters perfect for exploration. The campground provides a serene river outlook and easy access to the secluded beach. While the drive in may be challenging for caravans, visitors are rewarded with beautiful rock pools and natural attractions when the tide is out.
Fabulous little hidden secret on the north coast. Good swimming, beautiful views, fishing, exploring, walks. Kids loved it too.

Great little gem. Toilets just off the beach. Great for a swim, fish, and a snorkel. Limited parking then a short walk.

Gorgeous beach with a fantastic Little secluded swim spot surrounded by rocks. Good for snorkelling too. Haven’t tried the camp grounds there. Be aware of the walk to get there (approx 4 mins) I’ll be bringing my water boots next time to venture around all the rock formations!

Recommended by locals it didn't disappoint - serene! In the right weather you can sit around all day or snorkel or sand board or spear fish or dip and bake or bliss out!
Jayendra B — Google review
Likely the best beach on all of Kangaroo Island. The area is secluded, with opportunities for short walks to explore the nearby rock pools and sand dune. Water comfortable for swimming as well. This was the only beach that we visited at Kangaroo Island that seemed to be virtually free of the microalgae popping up everywhere. There is about 16km of easily driveable unsealed road to get there from the main highway.

Absolutely amazing spot to camp beautiful driving and the beach is fantastic. Lots of wildlife around even have a koala staying in the tree beside us

Outstanding snorkeling location. Park and walk over bridge to the beach. Extremely calm. Small rockpool perfect for beginners on easterly/river side. Head out from there for fantastic intermediate and advanced snorkeling. Abundant fish life. Would love this to be a marine sanctuary

Emu Bay Holiday Homes offers a perfect getaway for couples or small groups, providing impeccable service and a personal touch. The Jireh House is well-equipped with stunning 180-degree views of Emu Bay, comfortable beds, and good pressure showers. Guests receive a warm welcome package and personalized attention from the host.
We stayed 3 nights in Cottage 4, in April 2025. It’s a beautiful location and a wonderful place to stay. The cabin is so well equipped, they have thought of everything. The communication before arrival was great and we were happy that the ferry booking package was also sorted. We arrived in the evening and went for a wander outside the cabin and immediately discovered a koala in an adjacent tree, who we said hello to many times every day, plus his dad in another tree. It’s an easy walk down to the beach and jetty and the penguins were pretty easy to spot. We loved having breakfast every morning on the picnic table next to the labyrinth, looking at the view of the beach, what a way to start the day! Dirk was a great host, making us feel very welcome when he greeted us. We enjoyed exploring Kingscote on Day 1 and then on Day 2 loved Stokes Bay for bodyboarding and Snelling Beach for fishing, then drove down to the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch for sunset. We were so sad to leave Emu Bay and are determined to return. We wouldn’t hesitate recommending that you stay at this awesome place!

Our stay at Emu Bay Holiday Homes was absolutely incredible – without a doubt the highlight of our time on Kangaroo Island. The location is just perfect, and the views from Jireh overlooking the ocean were breathtaking, surrounded by stunning nature and wildlife. The house was spotless, beautifully maintained, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A special mention goes to Zac and Dirk, who were fantastic hosts – always available, attentive, and making sure we felt right at home. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend and would love to return!

I stayed with my parents who were visiting me from Chile, and we loved our time together! The place was quiet, clean, and organized. We even saw kangaroos and koalas just outside the front door. We stayed in cottage 4 and the unit has everything we need. Enough space for 4 adults. The unit is clean, the owners even checked on us to make sure everything is working as expected and we are comfortable. The view is amazing! We actually enjoyed the garden.

Vivonne Bay Beach is a picturesque UK-like beach with white sandy shores and turquoise blue waters. The beach is perfect for photography, especially when the sand is wet and reflective. It's an ideal spot for sunrise views and offers clear water near the jetty. While the main beach is suitable for surfing, the real beauty lies in the smaller beach between the jetty and river. Facilities along the beach are limited, but visitors can find delicious burgers at Vivonne Bay general store nearby.
Vivone Beach was indeed excellent, but the road from American River was a complete dirt road. Driving there carefully is the only suggestion we have from the trip
Swati A — Google review
Vivonne Bay has consistently been voted as one the best beaches in Australia, and in 2025, one of the best beaches in the world! Due to its pristine white sand, clear turquoise waters, opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and picnics, and its unique features like nearby sand dunes and abundant marine and wildlife. Who can argue with that! Sorry folks, no overtourism here! There was not a soul to be seen on the beach! It is called supply and demand. Tourists can't flood the island. SeaLink operates the main ferry service to Kangaroo Island, using twin-hulled catamaran ferries from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island, a 45-minute journey. The service offers car and passenger transport.

Vivonne Beach is the kind of place that makes you forget time exists tucked away on Kangaroo Island’s southern coast it’s pure untouched magic white sand so soft it squeaks underfoot turquoise water that sparkles even on a cloudy day and a peacefulness that feels like your own private escape from the world there’s something surreal about standing there watching waves roll in with no one else around it’s not commercialised or crowded just raw natural beauty the surrounding dunes and bushland add to the charm and if you’re lucky you might spot a sea lion lazing about or a dolphin cruising by perfect for a beach picnic a quiet swim when conditions allow or simply sinking your toes into the sand while doing absolutely nothing Vivonne Beach isn’t just a destination it’s a reset button if you’re heading to Kangaroo Island missing this spot would be a crime.

Beautiful white sandy beach with turquoise water. Stairs down to the beach. A little further down the road is the carpark which doesn't have stairs, just a path over the dunes to the beach. Emu Bay Beach on Kangaroo Island is a stunning and picturesque destination with its beautiful white sands meeting the fluorescent light blue ocean. It's one of the few beaches where driving is permitted, but caution must be taken to ensure everyone's safety. The beach offers plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the summer afternoons, making it ideal for swimming or simply taking in the breathtaking views. Visitors can also drive onto the beach, making it convenient for bringing all their gear.
A calm and quiet beach that offered a few bonus events; dolphins cruising in the shallow water and penguins present at night time. It’s a lovely walk along the bay, with the odd 4x4 vehicle using the beach.

Absolutely stunning and wonderfully tranquil. Emu Bay is one of those hidden gems where you can truly unwind. We took a drive right along the beach — and it was such a peaceful experience. The beach was quiet, with soft white sand and crystal-clear water stretching endlessly. To top it all off, we were lucky enough to spot dolphins playing just offshore — an unforgettable moment that made the visit even more special. Perfect for a stroll, a beach picnic, or simply soaking in the beauty of Kangaroo Island’s coastline. Picture-perfect in every way.

Beautiful beach, picturesque! Feels so remote and lovely to look out to the shoreline curving around the bay. You can drive on the beach and it is quite shallow so ideal for dogs, kids or for a long walk. There is also a new food van, Beach Day Emu Bay, situated near the playground that serves yummy coffee, cocktails and food which I recommend you get takeaway and enjoy on the sand.

Possibly the best beach to swim on KI, drive onto the sand and bring a few beers and an awning. Maybe you'll see dolphins like we did! Plenty of space and a large flat bay to warm up the water.

The beach is quite expansive and you can walk for miles! Parking is somewhat limited, but there was very few visitors when we went.

Situated halfway between the east and west ends of Kangaroo Island, this charming spot is perfect for grabbing fresh seafood to enjoy at your accommodation or on the beach.
Stopped in for coffee (which was great and very well priced) on the way to Flinders Chase National Park. Had heard about the famous Whiting Burger which did not disappoint. Speedy service and great facilities. Don't judge the quality by the unassuming facade. Well worth stopping!
Ben B — Google review
I was on a quest to try this famous Whiting Burger at the Vivonne Bay General Store, which was a rather random mission. I'm glad I did it as it hit the spot! We turned up rather late and in a hurry around 3pm. It was chilly outside on this day and we had not eaten for a long time so we need belly fuel. That being said, they did have a wood burner going which was not doing much considering how big the dining shed area was. My son had the Cheeseburger and there were no complaints from his camp. Even the chips were given a seven-year-old thumbs up and he is pretty picky, despite having very good judgement. The only negative I can see here is how spartan the general store was. It felt like an after-thought for diners....like candy at the check out till in a supermarket. Impulse material. Mind you, many of the tourist destinations on KI have the same view towards dressing out there stores. My general parting comments: great fish burger. It lived up to its reputation and yes I would eat it again.

Lunch stop post buggy tour at Little Sahara. Two of us enjoyed the famous whiting burger and the other a beef burger. All were delicious, fresh and crispy. A must do for visitors to the Island. Would recommend and always include in my visits here.

Delicious food. We absolutely loved the cheese burgers. Definitely up there with the best cheeseburger. The patty tasted like it was home cooked. Really nicely cooked patty, quite thick with onions. Delicious flavour. Husband had cheese burger with the lot and loved it. Also had chicken nuggets and chips and was delicious. As we left around 1 pm the place was absolutely full so best if you can get in early. Eg before the bus load of tourists arrive. Although I can see why this place is popular. Also has a general store with basic necessities there too.

I'm travelling on a motorcycle and this beach campground came up relatively quickly after getting off a 5pm ferry. I was aiming for the Vivonne Bay campground, but chose this one because it faces west... I could have a relaxed dinner and watch the sunset from the beach and take advantage of the last light to set up. No risk of hitting a kangaroo in the dusk by rushing to a farther-away campground. The only drawback is it's a small campground, and the campsites are within hearing distance of the roadway.

Red Banks is a hidden gem for those looking to escape the tourist crowds and enjoy a unique beach experience. While it may take some time to find the perfect spot for snorkeling among the shallow and warm waters, the diverse marine life including fiddler rays, Moonlighters, Zebra fish, magpie perch, old wife, leather jacket, and big blue swimmer crabs make it worth the effort. The cliffs provide a stunning backdrop but require caution due to their dangerous nature.
Red Banks is one of Kangaroo Island’s best-kept secrets and an absolute must-see for anyone who loves dramatic landscapes. The striking red and orange cliffs glow beautifully, especially at sunset, creating a breathtaking contrast against the deep blue ocean. It’s a photographer’s dream and a perfect spot for anyone wanting to experience the island’s raw, untouched beauty. Getting there can be a bit of an adventure—the unsealed road is rough and can be tricky to navigate, especially after rain. But don’t let that stop you! The stunning views at the end are 100% worth the drive. The cliffs feel remote and peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery without the crowds. If you’re up for a little off-road exploring, Red Banks is a hidden gem that rewards you with some of the most spectacular views on Kangaroo Island.

Cliffs are a great sight to see. There are some shovelled steps you can find to get down to the beach. Bring some sturdy shoes! To get to the are you go down about 3km of a narrow (1 vehicle wide) gravelly stretch, which is fine with AWD as long as it's been dry, otherwise I think it would be precarious.

Vivonne Bay, located in the South Coast region of Kangaroo Island, is renowned for its stunning blue waters and picturesque surroundings. The area offers various accommodation options including camping and house-style stays along with a general store. Visitors can explore the nearby Seal Bay Conservation Park to observe seals in their natural habitat. The bay features captivating rock pools, ideal for spotting crabs and other marine life while enjoying the crashing waves.
Magnificent beach; pure white sand and blue waters. Well worth the drive in. Do both entrances, one to the beach and the other to the jetty. You get the magnitude of this scenery from both angles.

Absolutely beautiful — an idyllic slice of paradise. The water is crystal-clear with stunning shades of blue, and the beaches are pristine and peaceful. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stop, breathe, and take it all in. A perfect spot to unwind and soak up the natural beauty of Kangaroo Island.

Lovely area to climb around in. Waves crashing by are beautiful, and lots of chances to see the wildlife. Perfect photo opportunities, and just a nice spot to relax in as well. Definitely an underrated area in Vivonne Bay. Easy access from car park as well. Would 100% go again.

Went down and climbed on all the rocks Found a small cave system Rock pools everywhere, all ranging from small ones to pool sized ones. As you walk around you will see and hear crabs scuttle away Plenty of photo spots
Ryan H — Google review
Neat little rock pool! During our brief stop I spotted four crabs in the pools. Lots of rocks to climb and explore. The crashing of waves accompanied by the ebb and flow of water into the rock pools is fascinating, if you like that sort of thing! If you don't want to climb or explore rock pools, you can still get a pretty good view of the action from above.
Jessica H — Google review
Yep - a cool experience with waves crashing on the rocks behind and flooding the pool. Bright colored crabs hiding in the cracks - a highlight on a good day!
Jayendra B — Google review
CAUTION - Another great South Australian rock pool to visit, however please be careful, what we thought were the large ocean waves just cascading occasionally over the rocks into the pools were possibly just standard small waves, within a minute of entering the pools EXTREME larger waves hit and completely swamped the area. The rock our daughter with the white top was sitting on and my wife was completely submerged, they had to cling on to it. My son and I were washed on to the sharp rocks and we thankfully walked away with some minor abrasions. Apart from that, it's worth a visit, be cautious or think twice if you decide to swim in the rock pools, (we're not sure if they are safe at all to swim in as you can see from the first photo they looked safe) and keep away from any areas where you could be swept in to the ocean. I would give the rock pools 5 stars if we knew they were safe for swimming in.

Pennington Bay on Kangaroo Island is a stunning destination that offers more than just beautiful white sandy beaches and rolling waves. It's also home to the Beach Barista caravan, known for serving some of the best coffee on the island. Visitors can enjoy their lattes while taking in the fresh sea air and picturesque views. The beach is a great place for a leisurely walk, but swimmers should be cautious as the waves are quite strong, making it unsuitable for novice swimmers.
This is a delightful location to visit. Always beautiful views regardless of the time of year one visits.
Pauline A — Google review
Beautiful and quiet location however the stairs are currently being replaced, so no direct access to the beach. There was a small path that has been made through the dunes, but did not wish to traverse due to impact on the environment
Melinda L — Google review
Spectacular waves and views, great for photos but not for swimming — the surf can be dangerous due to high winds and strong tides.
Shariq Q — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful beaches on kangaroo island 🏝 We parked the car and then walked down the stairs to the beach. We walked along the beach for quite awhile and climbed over the ridge past the bend. It’s easy to spend a couple of hours here.
Liisa B — Google review
We loved this beach. Much better than most other beaches we have been to on KI, second only to Vivonne bay. This one is smaller but beautiful all the same. Good views, clear blue water. Parking spots and toilet available. Fair reminder - most roads on Kangaroo Island are unsealed. Some are even called highways...We did not come across this information anywhere. Be prepared for a bumpy ride and a dusty as car.
A N — Google review
Pennington Bay KI is simply breathtaking beautiful, you will be fascinated with the Aussie native flora and fauna and you will be amazed how magnificent the rolling waves is; the wind is chilly even during Summer season at 23°C and the waves is not for a novice swimmer. A great spot for a picnic with friends and families, ample garbage bins and doggy poop bags is provided; along with public toilet and outdoor tap to clean yourself after sunbathing by the coast. The water is cold even in January, and appropriate bathing suits or wet suits is highly recommended; be mindful of little one since the waves is challenging for amateurs swimmers. Thank you Penning Bay KI for sharing this magical place, it's sheer raw beauty and natural wonders will keep you captivated for hours to come; and we will definitely be back again in the upcoming future.

Spectacular spot and great fishing. Easy safe car park with a toilet. And a surf beach that's full of Australian salmon, yellow eyed mullet, and insanely large Tommies (Australian herring). Good place to take the kids for a fish and introduce them to beach fishing.

Campground
Emu Bay Campground, located in Emu Bay, Kangaroo Island, offers an ideal setting for camping or parking caravans with a long and beautiful white sandy beach as its stunning front garden. This campground is one of the two places on the island where driving on the beach is allowed. While a four-wheel drive is not necessary, it is advisable to stick to the firm sand.
What a fantastic spot! We spent 2 weeks hopping between campgrounds on the island and this was our favourite. Views of the beautiful bay from majority of the sites, brand new toilets, a short stroll to a fantastic playground and fishing galore! We did have perfect weather, so that definitely helped, but a wonderful campsite that cannot wait to return to.
Nadia S — Google review
What makes this campground is the location. It was our favourite campground on Kangaroo Island and easy to travel to Stokes Bay and Snelling beach. There is one drop toilet which always smelt fine and was kept clean every day. The only downfall was there was no water here and you must bring your own. An easy walk to a beautiful beach where dolphins come in on most days. There is also a great little beach shack bar that is open from Thursday to Sundays. Great cocktails here.
Donna M — Google review
I apologize, but this is simply a paid rest area. There is only a toilet and an outdoor faucet with low water pressure, so only a small amount of water comes out, and there are no showers. You essentially pay just to park and sleep. Given the lack of amenities, the price should be reduced. Had I known, for just $10 more, I could have stayed at Discovery Lagoon Caravan and Camping Ground, which is much better equipped, with kitchens, hot showers, and bathrooms. The only positive aspect is the location. I cannot recommend this campground.
Claudia G — Google review
Pretty good, friendly hosts, nice amenities, 5 minute hot showers which is enough, for a bloke with little hair anyway. Had Koalas right outside our camp. Good spot to base yourself to see the rest of the island from.

Camping and camper trailer option at Emu Bay. Long drop toilet and BBQ adjacent across Hamilton Drive at the beach. Sites a little exposed to wind and sun. No showers and will need to bring own water.

Beautiful sunsets to be seen here. We also saw a stingray swimming in shallow water. There is a nice walking path that goes from Kingscote to Brownlow which we done several times during our stay.

Not the most impressive beach on the island but a good spot to see wildlife. Lots of birds like pelicans and black swans. I wouldn't recommend it for swimming as the waters edge is more like a river bed with slimy/smelly sand.
