Grand Lake, located in the central part of the province, is known for its excellent bass fishing, with an average of 30 fish a day and large bass weighing up to 3 1/2 pounds. The lake area has seen development with cottages and summer homes but still offers great swimming spots, picnic areas, and camping opportunities. Boating, beach relaxation, and swimming are popular activities at this picturesque location.

Great place too go camping or swimming with the family or friends, NB's biggest fresh water lake located in the central part of the province.
Dave P — Google review
Nice place, but too much of mosquitoes made our trip bad a bit.
Mahbub S — Google review
The lake is a great spot for boating relaxing on the beach or even just going for a quick dip! Be careful of the blue-green going around in all the waters including grandlake!
Hilary E — Google review
The area around the lake has changed a lot over the years with a lot of property being developed for cottages and summer homes but it's still a fantastic place to find some great swimming locales, picnic spots and rough overnight camping if you know where to look.
The P — Google review
Stunning views , awesome place to take part I water activities , and many camping grounds for overnight or extended camping !
Doug P — Google review
Beautiful! Too bad cottages own most of the beach property, it's hard to find a good place for the public to swim!

Summer time $3 to visit Free in out of season Gawjus place to put feet in the sand Sandy beach in Newfoundland amazing 🤩 rock sites and Great for family time :) Or a walk for a couple :)
Lizzie — Google review
The beach was very nice, clean, sandy as always! The hike was a quite nice surprise! The views at the end were very spectacular! Although some areas fenced off for good reasons, some were not that should have been! However thankfully made for some epic photographs I must say’, the walk down from towards the beach was very relaxing! The way the river feeds into the ocean allows for a mixture of gulls and ducks! Even cooler was the flounder that I almost stepped on, darted away! Very cool indeed! Lots of jellyfish, lions mane and moon jellyfish!
Patrik D — Google review
Beautiful!! Nicest beach I have seen in NL. You can pay a $3/person admission fee, and walk in (10 minute walk), or pay $8 per car, and park right next to the beach. It is actually called Salmon Cove Sands, not Salmon Cove Beach.
Ned F — Google review
What a gorgeous day to be at the beach. Sin we have to pay per car but it certainly was a great day. I've been there several times and it's not worth the trip when it's overcast and drizzling. Sunny days are perfect. Stay close to the river side so when the cooler breezes come in you're more sheltered. Bring a small BBQ and have a little cookout on the beach. Good times, with good friends.
Lea C — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach. This beach is paid, cash only. In the evening it is possible to use it for free. Next to the beach need a parking and it is very close need a lake. A place worth visiting, I recommend it😍

We drove for an hour and a half to Northern Sands but realized they didn't allow dogs when we got there. Ended up here as an accident but it turned out to be an incredible place! Absolutely beautiful and I LOVE that they're dog friendly! Can't wait to go back!

Costs 2.50 if I remember correctly but you can swim alittle in the shallow water on a nice day. Sandy and nice views.

Canadian restaurant
When exploring Gander, Rosie's Restaurant & Bakery is an essential stop for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. This charming eatery is beloved by locals and visitors alike, known for its warm atmosphere and welcoming service that feels like a family gathering. Conveniently located near the Gander International Airport, it’s one of those hidden gems that you’ll want to discover. Rosie's offers an impressive selection of baked goods, from fresh bread to mouthwatering pastries available for takeout.
We ordered the seafood platter — the bacon-wrapped scallops were absolutely delicious! The salmon was well-seasoned, and the shrimp and pan-seared cod were fresh and crispy. We also had the beef hot dinner, which came with onions and turkey gravy — hearty, flavorful, and served in huge portions. Be prepared for a long line and wait time, but it’s worth it!
Judy H — Google review
We heard so much about this place, we had to dine here. The Jigg's Dinner did not disappoint! It arrived hot. Delicious flavours. Huge serving. Bring your appetite. Fast friendly service. We bought their "Moose Farts" for dessert to take with us. They have many baked goods for sale as well. This restaurant was featured recently on 'Canada's Amazing Race' TV program.
Maria — Google review
Came here twice for lunch and dinner, while overnighting in Gander. Had to line up for a table, but that moved quickly. Between the three of us, we ordered 2 entrees. Portions sizes are gigantic, but everything was delicious. Especially the lemon meringue pie.
Alison — Google review
Staff was amazing we presented our concerns and they asked to fix them.., fries were cold, soup was cold… overall food was very bland. What made me angry was the cost of my grandsons lunch was $19. We ordered him a small pizza which was the smallest pizza I have ever seen (you will get a good laugh from the picture) and the pizza came with home fries and I asked if he could have a Caesar salad instead and she said yes with no mention of an up charge… yes, I assumed there would be a couple of dollars being it was only a kids meal. We received our bill and it was an additional $5.99 on top of the $12.99 for his meal, even though he didn’t get the hashbrowns. Other than that, staff was very nice and they had a bakery with bread and a lot of great desserts which we bought peanut butter balls.
Happy V — Google review
Fresh, home style Newfoundland cooking in Gander. Rosie’s was very busy which I think is a testament to its popularity. Staff were very knowledgeable of the menu and made recommendations we loved. Portions were large and everything was homemade.
Todd — Google review
It was really delicious!! We had Jiggs diner and our daughters had the Sunday roast even though it was Thursday because they couldn’t make the Jiggs diner in kids portion. We highly recommend this place!
Thomas B — Google review
Suggested to me as a breakfast option. Funny enough, Rosie's opens at 11 am. and breakfast service ends at 1130a.m. Everyone seemed to know this though and the place was packed. By the time we rolled ourselves out, the lineup was out the door. Great portion sizes and the homemade bread that comes with breakfast is literally heaven. The waitstsff is beyond accommodating, friendly and go above and beyond even though they are VERY busy. I hope to visit again while in Gander.
Anne — Google review
Rosie’s was recommended by a local, it’s very near the Gander International Airport so we decided to try it. This is one of those secret gems that only the locals, frequent visitors or friends of the locals know. It seemed that everyone knew each other and staff were greeting customers by name and it felt like one big happy family reunion. A lot of baked goods, from fresh bread to pastries were available to go. The restaurant is located behind the bakery. The variety of baked goods was also amazing, considering it was a small place, they had so many products, it was easy to buy more than needed. At the restaurant, I had the clubhouse sandwich with soup. The sandwich was excellent, thick cut of moist chicken, newly toasted bread, fresh lettuce tomato and just the right amount of mayo. My friends had the hamburger with noodle soup, and the chowder. I tasted all and I think the clubhouse was the best. They had specials on the board too. The interiors were clean and neat. The tables were cleaned as soon as customers left. The bathroom was just as clean. Service was excellent and friendly.

Specialty Museums
The North Atlantic Aviation Museum in Gander is a captivating showcase of the region's rich aviation history. From its pivotal role during wartimes to being a major refueling hub for trans-Atlantic flights, the museum covers it all. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring aircraft, artifacts, and stories that span from the early days of flight to modern aviation technology.
Though small this museum has an excellent timeline of history of aviation in the area. As Gander and it's existence is so based on the airport this is truly the story of Gander and all that has come to be there with the airport. From the idea of air travel across the ocean up to 9/11 and Gander's unique role, the museum gives a great look at how things there came to about and what the role of aviation was in it. A great stop in the area!
Katherine H — Google review
Awesome museum. Inside the exhibits show historical aspects of the maritime aeronautical heritage of Gander airport. There is also an area dedicated to the impact of the airport on pioneer transatlantic crossings and later during early commercial flights. Lastly, the area dedicated to the outstanding generosity of Newfoundlanders on 911 is great. Four outdoor exhibits are quite attractive and features a PBY Catalina, a CF 101 Vodoo and two other airplanes. A must for all visitors of The Rock.
Ivan S — Google review
Outstanding museum with so much interesting information. We skipped by it at first since it is set back but we stopped at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and they redirected us. Self guided but easy to follow the history. Nice displays and many interactive. Huge planes outside but still easy to travel past. Well worth the stop
Alexandra M — Google review
Stopped by here on the weekend when it was closed but still looked around at the planes on display outside. It's a nice place with interesting things. I would have gone inside if I was around during the week while it was open.
Sparkling I — Google review
Great little museum that details the history of Gander's airport. The airport's art in the second world War is explained and it's very interesting! The museum also has a section about 9/11 and the role the city played to help with the stranded passengers that landed there that day. The aircrafts outside are some of the sole remaining in the world. Not to be missed!
Jean-Marc P — Google review
Cool museum for aviation lowers, couple planes outside, one plane inside, simulators with MFS which is cool! A bit overpriced for how much there is on display compared to the museum in Halifax.. cool things in the gift store! Got myself a P51 mustang shirt!

A museum in Gander NL about North Atlantic Aviation. Good artifacts and info about aviation. Artifacts from 9/11 are found there.

It was ok, I wish they would restore the outdoor aircraft’s and make them more appealing to visitors and open the planes up for viewing… they do have boondocking for the night which was great!

The beach is well-maintained with minimal debris, making it perfect for leisurely strolls and family outings. Visitors can also enjoy water activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking, thanks to the new business called The Beach that offers various rental options and delicious food choices.
Beautiful beach. I went "after hours" (around 7pm), on a Monday, on a cool day, so it was empty. I was impressed with how clean it was. Seems to be a good amount of parking. There are accessibility mats, which is nice to see. Take out spot, "The Beach" seemed to be busy.
Christopher P — Google review
It's a decent beach. Maybe because I went on a Tuesday afternoon, not much was happening and the vibe was okayish. They have a volleyball court setup, so that's a win in my book! There are a few tables for picnics. There are also decent toilet facilities.
Shrey A — Google review
Pretty lake with a cozy, soft sand-bed that feels wonderful to walk on. The water is very clean and fresh too!

Gander Golf Club is a versatile venue that can host various events, from birthdays to weddings. The lounge offers stunning views of Gander Lake and the Par 70 course. The newly opened restaurant boasts delicious food with reasonable portions and prices. The golf course itself is well-maintained, offering a mix of challenging and easier holes suitable for all skill levels.
We always enjoy getting out to the Gander Golf Course for a round with family when home on vacation. The staff are always very accommodating. The course when we played early August was in excellent shape and especially the greens.
Joseph L — Google review
Par 70. The new restaurant as of June 2022. The food is definitely the best food in Gander. Chef Josh’s new menu is awesome and super tasty. The portions were reasonable. The prices matched and there was no BS fan fair of random greenery I’d have to throw out to make the play look “pretty”. We did a ladies night and we had wings, burgers, wine etc and had a blast. I’m taking one star off because the ambiance of the room was weird. Some tables had table cloths. Splendid not. No cutlery on the table, they had to run back and forth. Although the staff was REALLY nice, it was obvious they had never waitresses before or set a restaurant before. However… we went in day 5 of being open. So I know they will just get better from there. I will definitely be going back.

This is a great little club course. You have some elevation changes. The greens are in good shape june through October. It is a healthy walk due to some elevation changes. The opening hole is a tough one. Overall worth a game here. Some good views too. Nice beverage on the deck is a great way to finish.
David A — Google review
The Gander Golf Course, is very well maintained, and enjoyable to play! They have the right combination of challenging holes versus easier holes. This allows for all skill levels to be able to play in Gander. If you're playing 18 I would recommend a power cart as the course is quite hilly and is approx 10km in length.
Paul F — Google review
Really nice course, I wasn't sure what to expect but the layout and conditions were just great. Challenging but wide and well groomed. Reminded me of Ken Wo in Annapolis Valley NS. Fairways and greens were in great condition and the views from some of the holes was phenomenal especially of Gander Lake. Members I spoke to were very pleasant and allowed me to play through. Really impressed and glad I played it on my vacation. Keep up the great work!

Regional airport
Deer Lake Regional Airport is situated on the western part of the island and serves as a convenient entry point for international travelers, particularly those arriving from the United States. The airport offers major rental car agencies, making it easy to pick up a vehicle upon arrival. Navigating the island by car is relatively straightforward due to its limited road network.
Pretty good for a small airport in a somewhat remote area in Canada. It’s clean, organized, friendly security personnel, a small Robins donut and snack area, outlets for plugging in your phone can be found on some posts, and a huge window to see the planes and staff in operation. They have art in the airport too - from sculpture to murals. One of the best features for me was the Flybrary - a small section with gently used books encouraging travellers to take a book and return them when they fly back or replace with another book. Organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Library. This is such a neat and brilliant idea, I wish all the airports in Canada did the same. There’s a little box compete with a red fire hydrant where pets can do their toilet needs! Cool!
Anna M — Google review
Say what you will about smaller airports but personally, I prefer them. My 8th time here. Security has never taken more than 5 minutes. Not a whole lot of amenities/stores, but it does have all of the basics. Rental parking is very close to the terminal. There are only 3 gates so the waiting area is small. Staff are always friendly.
Christopher P — Google review
Awesome experience at Deer lake airport. Got to love these small airports with friendly people, respect and everything we need. From parking availability, to very welcoming people (car rental, security, plane companies etc), such a pleasant place to be ! Security is on top as well, while friendly, I think I triggered all the possible detectors with my semi metallic belt :) , yet, they handled it with respect and professionalism as well.
Alexandre S — Google review
For a smaller airport I would say they are doing a great job. Have never had a problem and the staff is always more than helpful. big up on the Robin's now after you pass through security.
Dan W — Google review
Great regional airport, nice and clean. Easy access!
Javier S — Google review
This is the most poorly organized airport I’ve ever been in. The people here are great but it’s so busy that you need to wait for an hour to drop bags. There are no self serve bag drop stations. This place needs to be bigger with a lot more staff. It’s so loud that you cannot hear any announcements. Everyone shows up 2-1/2 bouts early to make the flight because it is known that it takes that long to get through the crowd. Often times people that are scheduled later are ahead of you in the line which slows things down even more. I do all I can to avoid this place.
Robert M — Google review
Small airport, easy to locate off highway, plenty of parking, easy to rent/return cars, inside has gift shop and info centre, multiple car rental stations, place to eat and and a gift shop, inside gate area has vending machines that need cash.
Jeff S — Google review
It's hard to give this tiny airport a bad review. I mean it's not 5 stars but I've never had a bad experience here either. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's a cafe, convenience store, water fountain and the bathroom facilities are clean. Tons of seating with places to plug in. Parking is available and I've never seen it crowded so getting in and out is fast.

Awesome place! The ginger girl with the curly hair in the night is awesome! So friendly and bubbly! I didn’t catch her name

We had to wait 2 hours to get our food at the table. We were literally about to leave the place before the food arrived. I ordered fish and chips and I could tell the fish was frozen and not fresh. It was not bad to be honest, but not just to my expectations. The vibe of the place is great though, but I wouldn't go there only for food.

Thank you for reading my opinion about this restaurant. The food quality was Ok, the service was really slow which I really understand because they are really busy. Many servant are really friendly but mine was not really friendly and even I should ask for tissues or cutlery. Thank you for serving at your restaurant.
Amir M — Google review
Stopped in Gander on our East Coast road trip and decided to have dinner at Legends. The "cactus skins" were fantastic! Basically nachos but with thinly sliced [spiced] potatoes instead of chips. Delicious! I loved the decor (images of famous "legends", even including Oscar Wilde) and the staff, especially our server Mary, were very friendly. Would definitely recommend stopping in for a meal or even just a drink if you're in the area!

Excellent food quality, fresh fish and hamburger meat ,chicken used in thier meals. Little bit of a wait for the meals to get served but we'll worth the wait. We'll worth the money per serving. Paid $130ish for 5 people.

First and last time for a Legends. Pretty sure I could have cooked a better steak on the cars manifold while driving....
Rick E — Google review
We made reservations for dinner for 20. When we arrived and we seated, we were asked for our drink orders which took a long time. We finally placed our food orders and waited over an hour to be served. About half the group received their orders but the rest of us waited, and waited, and waited. Those who received their food were done before the rest of us were served. The food was dry, cold, and without flavor. Don't know why the kitchen staff was unable to prepare our food but we were told they were going the best t hey could. They knew we were coming but could not handle a group of our size. And there were many empty tables so they were in no way busy. Would not recommend this place to anyone! Very disappointed!

The area also hosts several festivals such as the George Street Festival, Busker's Festival, and Wreckhouse Jazz and Blues Festival during the summer months.
The perfect afternoon refuge spot. Busy in the summer and at the time around the Regatta Day (first Wednesday of August). The trail around the lake is beautiful and offers some nice views. There's a skate and a bike park, a space for pets - plenty of stuff to do for everyone. Walk along the trail right to the end to reach The Wharf and the old Quidi Vidi village, where the lake opens up into the ocean through the hills - a beautiful sight. Here's where you'll also find the famed Quidi Vidi Brewery.

Pistolet Bay Provincial Park, nestled on the northern coast of Newfoundland, is a hidden gem just a short drive from the historic L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. This charming park features a quaint campground surrounded by stunted fir trees, offering primitive sites that provide an intimate connection with nature. While it may lack modern amenities like hookups, visitors can enjoy fresh artesian well water and access to a dump station.
Details: primitive, no hook ups, has dump station and fresh artesian well water. Seems more appropriate for a small rig and doubt a big rig like class A or 5th wheel could get in there. We loved it. Quiet, access to grass and a freshwater lake shore. There is speckled trout fishing in the lake. Never went to the "comfort station" so unknown. Easy access to L'Anse aux Meadows, and St Anthony. Lots to do, lots of hikes in the area.

Really clean and pretty little campground. Friendly staff and very clean comfort station. Definitely recommended.
Scott T — Google review
Cute little camp ground, facilities we clean, staff were kind and attentive. Sites are a little small and exposed not many tall trees. Small swimming area just at the beginning of the camp ground great for kids.
Eric T — Google review
A small campground, not too far away from L'Anse aux Meadows. I stayed there for two days while exploring the northern peninsula. It's an easy drive to all the Viking stuff, and there is a good restaurant/convenience store/gas station to the north in Raleigh not too far away. The campground itself is simple, but we'll kept. There is a single loop of primitive campsites nestled in a grove of stunted fir trees. Some of the campsites have a nice view of the bog adjacent to the camping area. The facilities are good with flush toilets and full sized shower stalls with hot water. Not too many campers, so there was never a wait to use the showers. There is also a small day use area with a beach/swimming area. Did not see anyone there during our visit, so you would probably have the place to yourself. Cost was very reasonable and check-in was easy. The rangers their were very nice and helpful as well. A great experience overall.

Such a quiet campground close to St Anthony, L’Anse aux Meadows and many small coves and villages. No hiking at the park, however lots within a half hour drive.

The campground itself boasts beautiful scenery and welcoming staff who go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. Many guests have shared their positive experiences, highlighting the friendly atmosphere and well-maintained facilities.
I was working in Labrador City when they called the evacuation due to the wildfire. After being evacuated to Happy Valley Goose bay I was put up at the college. The town did a good job or coordinating the evacuees but sleeping in the gym with a couple hundred people was hard for me to get a good sleep. Went to the campground and explained my situation saying I'd be happy with a tent site that I could just park the truck and I'd sleep in the back seat. The ended up giving me the site for free and even offered me a tent(which I declined, the back of the truck was roomy) All in all the staff was amazing. The sites were a decent size and the beach plus view was amazing. Two thumbs up to this campground. I wish to visit again under better circumstances.

My wife and I have been overlanding for nearly 30 years. We wild camp over 90% and rustic camp at National, State, Provincial parks all over North America. Gosling Lake was our first ever experience at an RV park. I must say it was a very positive experience. If we are ever up near Labrador City again, we’ll stop in and camp here again. Thanks so much for having us. Cheers

Stayed here during Lab City evacuation, I was planning on camping through the evacuation but didn't know this place existed and was recommended to go there. I arrived, having not slept in 29 hours, and the staff set me up with a tent site. They were super friendly and accommodating. I actually really enjoyed my time there. The park is beautiful. I will definitely come back to camp sometime that's on better circumstances.
Melissa — Google review
Very accommodating friendly owner and team. For a relatively new campground it has the essentials, electricity and water and a dumping station. Nice beach area. The campground was clean and well maintained. Definitely enjoyed the site and stay.
Ian W — Google review
Campground is very much a work in progress, with sites in varying state of construction. Two services worked well, but when they say non-potable water it is absolutely true, brown with lots of sediment. Toilets at at the entrance to the campground were not clean when visited, and the office is a temporary building. The ‘under construction, enter at your own risk’ is a little daunting.
JANE B — Google review
I was travelling on a motorbike, trying to dance my way between stormfronts. In short notice, an email query landed a response: they could fit me in, even though they had no tent sites - in other words, they'd charge tent rates for a motorhome site. This is a typical RV/fifth-wheel site, with the usual amenities. One caution: the water isn't potable, so you have to either bring inline filters (as some did) or pack your own drinking water. Site is in the process of adding showers. Reasonably quiet, but not far from Goose Bay/Happy Valley.
