Restaurant
The Wooden Monkey is a cozy and inviting restaurant in Halifax, offering a diverse menu that caters to carnivores, fish enthusiasts, vegetarians, and vegans. The establishment prides itself on using premier organic and locally-sourced produce in every dish. From pizzas and burgers to salads and grilled fish, the contemporary Canadian menu has something for everyone. Guests can also enjoy a wide selection of locally-brewed beers, creative cocktails, and wines made from responsibly-grown organic grapes.
We're in Halifax for a quick visit. Our friends suggested The Wooden Monkey. Great choice. I'd like to start off by saying they got slammed, 21 people at two tables, seven at ours, the staff hustled. I can only imagine how busy the kitchen was. Great job by everyone. After 8 hours of flights to be here, the white wine sangria was amazing. We had the trio of dips which were very tasty. The special dip was warm and spicy. I had the Cajun haddock, very good. Cooked just about perfect and with the right amount of spice. All and all, very enjoyable first meal in Halifax.

This is more than just about great local food and drinks! In May I visited Halifax for the first time and the local friends invited us to The Wooden Monkey. We were an international group that felt welcomed. The staff was fun. The story of this restaurant with its beginnings made me see how the local community can transform tragedy into support, legacy and connection. You'll find a unique blend of history, sustainability, entrepreneurship and love for community in relics, decorations or pieces of furniture. In challenging times their story stands true to resiliency and culture that goes beyond time. If I won't be back I'll still be touched by what's possible where we are.

This place was lovely. The vibe was cozy and welcoming. The staff were super friendly and easygoing. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, they found us a table and made us feel really comfortable. Our server was amazing, very helpful with the menu and just had a great attitude. The food was great too. My daughter had the grilled fish with potatoes and tartar sauce, it was just $10 and honestly way better than what you’d expect for that price. I had the mushroom soup of the day, and it was fresh, light, and full of flavor. Overall, just a really warm, relaxed place with good food. We’ll definitely go back.

Exceptional Dining Experience at The Wooden Monkey, Halifax I had the pleasure of dining at The Wooden Monkey this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed their pizza paired with a locally crafted beer. The pizza was outstanding — perfectly balanced flavors, fresh ingredients, and a beautifully baked crust. The beer selection complemented the meal exceptionally well. The restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with attentive and friendly service. A truly satisfying experience that reflects Halifax’s vibrant local food culture. Highly recommended for anyone seeking quality, sustainably inspired dining in the city.

The Wooden Monkey serves delicious, locally-sourced food with great vegan and gluten-free options. The service was a bit slow during our visit, but the staff were warm, friendly, and made us feel welcome. Great atmosphere and values—worth the wait for a tasty, mindful meal.

Love everything about this place. Cool vibe, supporting local product and lot's of gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options! Staff is very welcoming and extremely nice (Thank You Alice). After a long day at the beach, there Vegan donair sandwich with chickpea salad hit the spot. Full of flavour and for a person that’s not a fan of the sauce I have to admit it was pretty damn good. Looking forward to go back and try the Scallops/Pasta

We recently held our civil ceremony reception at The Wooden Monkey, and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, the staff were incredible. They were attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. Everything ran smoothly and all of our guests felt comfortable and well taken care of. The food was exceptional, and they were very accommodating with creating a reduced menu for us! The space itself was cozy and welcoming, and the perfect atmosphere for an intimate gathering. The evening was exactly what we hoped for! We will highly recommend the restaurant for private events!

Had the delicious chickpea salad. Decor was adorable. A burger was also had and yummy. Although the potato wedges weren’t very crispy; almost I don’t wanna say soggy or mushy but definitely would have preferred crispier😁

Canadian restaurant
Restaurant
The Canteen on Portland is a sophisticated and well-lit restaurant in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It started as a gourmet sandwich shop before evolving into a full-blown restaurant. The menu features creative seasonal comfort fare, including soups, sandwiches, salads for lunch, and more formal dishes like Grilled Radicchio with seared halloumi and Mushroom Fettuccine for dinner.
I’m a bit mad at myself for not coming here sooner. The food was absolutely spot on, spectacular. Local ingredients, beautiful scallops, and the bun on the Crobster roll was as memorable as the filling. Our server Eva was awesome! Great to be around, so nice. We felt totally spoiled. If you want great NS seafood, creative classic dishes, and an all-round impressive experience, you gotta come! Can’t wait to go back.
Melanie L — Google review
Amazing experience! Food was delicious, I left super full. The drinks were really good, mine was a little small for the price. The server was funny. We had a spot in the sun on the patio. Had to park way down the road, that’s the worst part. It was a great evening. This spot was recommended to me. I would definitely go back.
Ava A — Google review
We had the Snow Crab Dip and Lobster Pasta, and both dishes were amazingly delicious! The service was top-notch, and the lady who served us was so kind and friendly — she greeted us with a smile every time and truly made my day better. Unfortunately, I forgot her name, but she made our visit extra special. It was a superb experience overall, and we’ll definitely be coming back! 🦀🍝💙
Fragrance W — Google review
Great place with friendly staff and outstanding seafood dishes. I had the seared haddock with hodge podge, and the mussels with fries — both were simply amazing. The staff were attentive and welcoming throughout my visit. I was tempted to try their “Crobster Roll,” but decided not to, as it’s a mix of lobster and crab sold at the same price as a traditional lobster roll — which felt a bit misleading to me. Also, note that their menu changes depending on the time of day, so some of the signature dinner dishes aren’t available during brunch. Despite those minor issues, I had a really nice experience overall and would definitely recommend this place!
S. R — Google review
This place was recommended to us by friends in Halifax and wow are we glad we went. Our waiter Sheldon obviously enjoyed working there and gave excellent service and recommended other places in the area as well. The other waitresses and bus staff helped each other out with ease and without being asked, and also seemed to enjoy working there. Food came out of the kitchen quicker than I expected after ordering and was hot and arguably the best restaurant food I’ve had. I am always a fry dipper in ketchup but these fries were ruined by the ketchup, they are so good on their own. My burger was large and fresh and obviously real meat with such a delicious pairing of sauces and flavours. My husband’s steak was cooked to perfection and tasted so fresh and beefy, and the roasted broccoli had the most perfect crispy florets and seasoning. The atmosphere on the patio was quietly lively and felt private at our table at the same time. If you are in Dartmouth/Halifax this place is a must.
Megan T — Google review
This spot was recommended to me by a friend and it definitely did not disappoint! A spot for great NS seafood. The crobster roll was loaded with NS snow crab and lobster! I loved the canteen chowder and it was full of seafood and haddock. Such a fun and delicious spot in Dartmouth!
Annie N — Google review
Enjoyed the famous crobster roll and it was delicious. The crab and lobster go very well together especially with the truffle aioli, grainy mustard and dill which packs a lot of flavour. I savoured every bite but ate it so fast I almost forgot how good it was. Would love to go back again.
Rick G — Google review
Went there today with 5 friends. We ordered Haddock burgers with fries and 2 friends had the special which was an open face beef sandwich with mushrooms and cheese. We all enjoyed our meal and agreed that the bun didn’t really work with the haddock. It was a bit soggy at the end. The fish was excellent and I ate mine without the bun. For dessert I ordered the Pavlova since it’s my favourite and I’ve never seen it on a menu. Delicious. Did not disappoint. Another lady ordered the carrot cake as it’s her favourite. (Not the first time here for her). When I visit Dartmouth again, I will definitely stop in again.

If you're looking for a laid-back, intimate spot to enjoy some good American beers and hearty fare, Battery Park Beer Bar is just the spot. With 20 rotating taps and an impressive food menu, this hidden back deck is perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening out. Plus, thanks to its industrial style and excellent staff, Battery Park Beer Bar has quickly become a local favorite.
Stopped by for what we thought would be a quiet evening on a Wednesday. To our surprise, it was as lively as a Friday night! The local beer options were amazing. The menu is hand written on a board for all to see. I'd recommend walking up once and taking a photo for your group. If you can't decide what to get, they have a flight of 4 for $12! The food was well priced and original too. Whatever you get, I recommend getting the spicy fries on the side instead of the regular ones. They don't take reservations and are busy all days of the week, so expect a ~10 minute wait time for mid sized groups.
Lu P — Google review
Beer was great and love the options. I didn’t have food, but looked great! Service was impeccable and friendly. The space itself is dark, so it’s not a place i’d hang out in the afternoon or during the day.
Megan L — Google review
Battery Park is a hidden gem in the north end of Dartmouth. I highly recommend it for great food and an impressive selection of beers on tap. The atmosphere is fantastic, with unique and tasteful decor featuring antique toys and Star Wars memorabilia. The burgers and wings are outstanding. The menu is simple—focusing mainly on burgers, wings, nachos, and poutines—but everything is delicious. The staff has always been top-notch whenever I visit. Just keep in mind that it can get busy, so there might be a wait. Also, the Propeller root beer is a must-try !! The pig mac is one of my favourites and also the jughead.
Kristy S — Google review
Great brewery. The staff are super friendly and cool. They are down for a chat if it isn't busy. Excellent beer celection. Great not beer selection. The back patio is an oasis and worth vibing on. Their food is good, my partner loved his, I liked my veggie burger (toppings were great) but didn't love the patty (beet patty is very dark ages of veganism). Bummer this place isn't more disabled accessable but it is in an older building. Highly recommend.

Dropped by here for dinner and drinks, I had the Pork Belly and Pineapple burger and a couple drinks. The food was delicious and there was a wide drink selection to choose from. Our server was great and attentive.
Jonathan K — Google review
Had the best burger I've ever had in all of HRM here. Forget the name, but it was a smash burger with pork belly and grilled pineapple, and was absolutely fantastic. Showed up roughly 20 minutes before the kitchen closed and they were super cool about it. Bartender was a nice fella. The d20 to roll for a drink is also pretty cool. Landed on number 7 which was a coffee infused ale, liked it so much I had 3. Left with a full stomach and a solid buzz on. 100% will be back, 5/5.
Cameron M — Google review
I have been consistently impressed by the quality of both service and food here. Every time I return, they give me another reason to come back. This week Amy was our server and she was truly wonderful. Kind hearted service is such a rare find these days but at Battery Park I’m never disappointed! As a server myself, I can truly say it takes one to know one. Thanks again Amy! I’ll certainly be back!

The kimchi fried chicken sandwich is my go-to here. It's delicious every single time. It's a beer bar though. It gets noisy. Nicer when the weather is better to sit outside on their lovely roof top patio.

Restaurant
The Bicycle Thief is a lively restaurant with a classic atmosphere and outdoor seating, offering an innovative Italian menu and cocktails. Situated near the waterfront at Bishops Landing, it combines old-school charm with a modern vibe. The extensive menu features tempting dishes like jumbo prawns sautéed in garlic and cognac, braised beef short rib ragu, and almond-crusted organic chicken breast.
The Bicycle Thief is a very popular restaurant along the harbourfront in Halifax for good reason. The service was 10/10 as the hostess were friendly & welcoming, & our server was also very friendly & knowledgeable on the menu. He made sure to check with us if there was any allergies to be aware of & was always checking up on us. Be aware that you must reserve a table as it does get fully booked & is unlikely to have seating right away if you walk in!! For appetizers, we had to get the fresh oysters which were perfect and so fresh - and the calamari which was sooo good as well! Those are both a must try. For mains, we got the Crab Ravioli, which was a good amount of food & was very filling - highly recommend! The Linguine All’aragosta was a recommendation from our server & it lived up to our expectations. And if you’re looking to eat a variety of seafood for dinner, get the Seafood Stew. We loved it as it was filling & the scallops in it was definitely a highlight. I couldn’t recommend this place more
Sheena — Google review
Stunning waterfront spot in Halifax with a beautiful ambiance. The seafood was top-tier — our seafood stew was full of flavour, the oysters crisp and fresh, the salmon tender and cooked just right. Service was beyond good; Costa was attentive and the whole team came across friendly and professional. The wine list deserves mention: a nice selection, well matched to the seafood. On the flip side: it isn’t cheap, but you do get what you pay for. It has a bit of a “tourist destination” feel, and the interior can get lively (and loud) in peak times; if you want a more relaxed meal, consider an earlier slot. Dessert: the butterscotch cake was rich and a bit too sweet for my taste. The Greenhorn cocktail was a strong pour — good but didn’t quite hit the flavour mark for me. Overall: Highly recommended for a special dinner, celebration or when you want scenic dining with good food and fine service in Halifax.
Nate M — Google review
Super cozy and classy atmosphere, looks like we were at the right place to be tonight at this beautiful restaurant. Really lively and all the tables were full. More importantly, the dishes were sensational. Started with the mussels, one of the best I’ve had. Lobster rolls were not in season but they still made it happen for us, really delicious. Our server Darlene was incredibly nice and attentive, overall a lovely experience. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great fantastic to dine.
Dennis — Google review
I had wonderful experience here along with my wife. We came without reservation to celebrate our anniversary, and we received a nice service. We sat down outside around 6pm so we would be able to enjoy the sunset. We got jumbo shrimps with garlic for entries and they were delicious and a couple of glasses of wine After that we tried the Spaghetti with Fruti di Mari and the Diavola. We loved so much the food and specially the service. In the end we ordered a dessert and they put a lovely message to make the ocassion more special.
Edwin S — Google review
Our favourite place to eat in Halifax. Staff are so well trained and friendly it’s refreshing. But the cuisine…wow! What a dining experience. I can’t believe they can serve so many people at the same time and yet we feel like one chef in the back personally prepared my plate. Everything was perfect, nothing over cooked and presented as if they had nothing else on the go. We loved the scallops and the halibut! The deserts are all homemade but the pistachio gelato is something you need to try even if you think you’re too full, try it anyway. Right on the pier as well so you can walk right after.
Linda M — Google review
Had an amazing dining experience at The Bicycle Thief! The ambiance is warm and lively, and the waterfront location makes it even more special. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. Service was attentive, friendly, and made us feel well taken care of throughout our meal. It’s no surprise this is one of our favorite spots in Halifax. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food, great vibes, and a memorable night out!
Sheika F — Google review
You can see that most of the reviews here are very favourable for this restaurant. That's because the food, the service, the ambience, the location, are all spectacular. The food we had was faultless! It was delicious, beautifully presented, and the wait staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful. No wonder this restaurant is a hit! It was my daughter's birthday vacation and they surprised her with a sundae brought out in a tall glass, on a plate with Happy Birthday written on it. See, it's the small things that count!! lol It's a good thing I don't live in Halifax, because I'd be at this restaurant far too often!! Well done, Bicycle Thief!
Travel J — Google review
Located just outside the waterfront, reservations are recommended or you would sit at the bar. Nevertheless, the food was amazing! I had the seafood cioppino and it was loaded with seafood, the bread it came with was great too! Pasta and calamari were also delicious. They also gave us their homemade foccacia and while it was good, it would been even better if it was warmed. Definitely a worthy spot to check out in Halifax.

Restaurant
Nestled in Dartmouth, Mic Mac Bar and Grill has gained a strong reputation as the best restaurant in the area, earning the title for four consecutive years. This family-owned tavern offers a diverse menu featuring hearty burgers, steaks, and all-day brunch options. It's no surprise that locals consider it an institution and go out of their way to experience its down-to-earth ambiance and fully stocked pub fare.
We went here for Easter supper. I gave 5 stars across the board even though we did have a 45 min wait for our table and 35 min wait for food - that's to be expected during a Holiday. I had the bbq chicken Burger and everyone else had the hot turkey. I thought the burger was excellent. Very juicy and flavorful. I got hot sauce on the side to dip. Aside from the wait times, service was excellent. Our server was super friendly and checked in often.

Amazing food that’s reasonable priced. We went with another couple and loved their steak dinners and absolutely loved our fried scallops, the Thai Curry Mussels I was skeptical but was made a true believer. Strongly suggest you make reservations as this a true local hidden gem! Our waitress was amazing! Fresh food and clean restaurant!

Had dinner tonight. It was very busy but was worth the wait. We had the steak and lobster dinner with pork ribs ends and a Cesar salad. Great value and quality for the price. We would definitely return. It was our last dinner for our trip to Halifax and it was the best for last. The steak came with a side. I chose the rice pilaf and mashed vegetables. Very tasty. Salad was very refreshing.

My husband and I visited this restaurant, not knowing too much about it as we’re visiting from Ontario for our honeymoon. The food was absolutely amazing!! The only thing better than the food was our incredible server, Kevin. He was attentive, kind, knowledgeable, funny, and made our experience one to remember. We highly recommend this place for not only their food, but their incredible service!!
Amber L — Google review
I love the 24oz steak here, but I found the best time to order it is when supper time, I came to here ordering medium 24oz tip steak around 2pm instead of late night time. The steak’s sear was not as perfect as before. I think it might because the different chief cooking. Therefore I recommend ordering it during supper time.

family's reco. It's worth the hype and did not disappoint. The service is top-notch. They're able to accommodate a party of 60plus and the FOOD esp the lobsters yummers
Ann G — Google review
I'm sorry to say that the lobster was way overcooked....you can tell when there is tons of the white stuff (the lobsters blood), it was not sweet, probably because it was overcooked. I would have preferred plain or salted butter to their seasoned version. The spicey potato skins were not spicy but very salty and they're not skins as you expect on most menus, but shavings from potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender but way too salty. The coleslaw slaw was good, but could have been much better if it werent so watery. Rock, my server was patient and excellent.

Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is a stylish and traditional establishment that was originally built in Ireland and then transported to Canada for assembly. Located in the heart of downtown Halifax, it offers a rowdy Irish pub atmosphere with live music and entertainment. The pub is named after a famous restaurant in Bunratty, Ireland, and aims to authentically emulate Irish culture.
An absolutely amazing dinner we had here. We were recommended this pub, it did not disappoint. The pub was busy but everyone was respectful and it made for an amazing night. We sat up in the more dining style tables so it was a bit quieter but if you went closer to the bar the energy, the fun and the music were great! The stew and chicken burger were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was yummy too! Will definitely eat here again then next time we visit! For those that appreciate it: yes the bathrooms were very clean!
MB U — Google review
I ordered the fish that was very tasty with a crispy batter. The Caesar salad was the highlight for me and I’ll probably order it as a main next time. My Dad absolutely loved his seafood chowder. My husband had the Reuben sandwich and fries. He had me try both and it was the best Reuben I’ve tried in a long time. The staff was beyond friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for a great pub experience in the city.
Kristi D — Google review
Came here TWICE in my 3 night trip for a conference. DELICIOUS gluten free buns. I had a Reuben with seasonal beer salad (which was THE BEST with the fresh candied pecans and dried blueberries), and the Craic burger with Spice bag fries. The sumac and curry hints in that spice blend were so impactful but not overpowering. I am already planning a trip with the family in summer 2026 and going to bring them here for sure!
Jeneen M — Google review
Stopped here for some snacks and drinks and it was fantastic! The Blarney Chips were delicious, and after having several chowders on our trip so far this was by far the best! Drinks were good too, and there was a ceilidh happening while we were there and the music was awesome! Service was also spectacular, over server was very quick. Loved our experience here!
Jess M — Google review
My party of two was actually forgotten about and we watched others get seated and served after us, but keen observers will note the 5 star rating. It was just a busy night and the staff was so apologetic and kind (they even gave us a free app) and it was water under the bridge. But more importantly, the food was amazing. The french onion dip, guiness stew, cocktails, and the smoke burger were all delicious, especially the dip. Great staff, great food, great music, highly reccomend.
C.J. — Google review
First off, we came for food, not for drinks. The ambience and service looks like it would be a great place for drinks. However, the food was pretty bad. The Irish Stew was undercooked (beef and potatoes) and sour. The seafood chowder was also way too salty.
Geoffrey M — Google review
The food was very good and our waitress Sally was very friendly, attentive, efficient and professional. We will definitely be going back the next time we visit Halifax. Not expensive for everything we had and very generous portions.
Isabelle Z — Google review
Unfortunately we were overcharged for our meals. Also for our non-alcoholic drinks. The waitress took our bills as soon as we started to pay for it so we didn't even have a receipt to look back on and see what was charged. We did tip even though we were missing all of our gravies. Usually it's a fun place to go but we had two birthdays and left leaving feeling very frustrated and hungry.

Service was both friendly and efficient, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was excellent—flavorful, well-prepared, and thoughtfully presented. A great place to relax and enjoy a memorable meal.

The perfect little pub on this side of the harbour. I’ve been here often enough to know what to expect — more so during trivia night (if I could rate that part I would). Most times I’ve visited, I’ve had the same server over the last few times, she’s always efficient and handy with some recommendations. I didn’t get anything special, but quick adjustments to my meal were appreciated. I ordered a poutine, added pulled pork and also tried another dessert: carrot cake. So good!! If you need a cold beer and a warm, cozy meal; this is the spot.

Food here was pretty underwhelming. Also took a while to get our waitress but it was a full house so it was understandable. Shell of our pie was really dry, and the inside was pretty plain. Fish n Chips also didn't taste too fresh, and it wasn't very crispy. With both of these being their 'signature' dish I imagine the rest of menu is the same or worse. Overall vibes were good for a pub though!
Andy L — Google review
A good pub where you can find not just what to drink but to eat well to. The menu is quite big and varied. The atmosphere of the pub without some deep entourage but well maintained(Wood will always be held in high esteem). I liked the small half-wall between the common zone and the bar counter - stylish and convenient to create a comfortable feeling behind you when you sit at the counter and still be in the common space. Friendly staff. The prices are normal. My wife and I ordered Tall Ship beer and a lemon tea. Pretzel with mustard. And Trinity steak boxty and Steak & Guinness pie for main dishes. In fact, for a $5 I would like 2 Pretzels instead of 1, but if you are taking it as a snack. If you are taking it as a bread for the main meal, 1 is more than enough. Both main courses were very tasty but it was a bit disappointing that they gave us the same side dish in them.

I found the food was good and the prices were reasonable. The only thing I didn't like was we waited a long time to receive our food after ordering. Not sure why this was as there was very few people in the restaurant at the time.

We took the public ferry over to Dartmouth for an afternoon of socializing. Our bartender Nick was amazing. Everything you would expect in a great pub. Excellent experience was found right here.

The pub food is amazing, the Celtic vibes are great, super fun spot, reasonable prices. My food was excellent, and arrived quickly. There building is historic and the bar feels very cozy.

This was our second visit to this pub across the street from Alderney Landing. Our first visit was at lunch time and the pub was quiet and the food was great. This second time, the food was still superb, and worth the noise. Can't complain about the noise, we're the idiots who went to a sports bar during a rugby match! But mention it so other folks are aware. We had chicken fingers, Trinity Steak Boxty, and shepherd's pie, with sides of butternut squash soup, and all were exceptional.

Two If By Sea Cafe is a cozy downtown Dartmouth spot known for its delicious coffee and tea drinks paired with sweet and savory baked goods. The cafe's buttery croissants are a must-try, available in various iterations such as the delectable pain au chocolat filled with quality chocolate or served as a savory breakfast sandwich. They also offer unique croissant specials like the roasted red pepper and goat cheese, along with creative spins like a croissant-based sandwich inspired by a Big Mac.
I was recommended to visit Two If By Sea Cafe when visiting Halifax for the week. We ordered two croissants to share, a matcha latte and coffee. Service was great and the food was awesome. It is a very busy spot, the vibe is great!
Ryan B — Google review
I stopped by Two if By Sea cafe, and while it was a hip spot, I left feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The cafe itself is trendy, but seating is limited, so be prepared to grab-and-go. I ordered an iced matcha latte, but unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. The flavor was just average, and I've had better matcha lattes elsewhere. On the bright side, the croissants were a highlight! They're huge and flaky, and the almond croissant was perfect for me since it wasn't too sweet. However, I have to say that the plain croissant didn't impress me as much - I've had better ones from Costco (and you can't beat the value there!). The Nutella and raspberry danish were just okay - nothing special. Overall, I'd say Two if By Sea cafe is a solid choice if you're in the area, but it's not necessarily a destination worth seeking out.
Raia S — Google review
A really nice cafe, got there just when they were bringing out their fresh batch of pastries and man they are huge. The provolone croissant was bigger than my hand and the chocolate croissant was also very large. Loved the outside seating and their food and ambience.

🛑 BEST CROISSANTS IN CANADA! 🛑 if you are visiting Halifax do yourself a favour and cross the bridge into Dartmouth and go try these croissants! Best you’ll ever had! Won’t regret the trip over! You’re going to want to go back to visit Halifax only for these croissants! Don’t forget to pair them with a Cafe Moca, they’re great as well! Hint, go early! By 1:00 pm or so, they could sold out!
Gian B — Google review
We really enjoyed the coffee and the numerous varieties of pastries. We had the pain au chocolat and a everything croissant, and it was delicious. The vibe was also very nice, we sat upstairs with all the paper plates with art on them, we had a good time looking at the drawings! The americano is great, will go again!
Arielle R — Google review
Not really sure what the hype is about. The croissants are too dense, the flavor is good but croissants are supposed to be light and flaky. These were far from it. We have tried the prosciutto cheese one and almond croissant. Wouldn't purchase again but their coffee was good and people nice. Also, there is pizza place upstairs - definitely recommend it
Jana K — Google review
You will not find better croissants. The problem is choosing which one. The pain au chocolat is deliciously and generously filled with milk chocolate. The Everything Bagel flavored croissant is amazing as well, filled with cream cheese. This time around I had the special, which was a pumpkin cheesecake croissant. A bit sweet, but oh so good. The seating isn't super comfortable, but if you can snag a table by the open window it's nice. Very busy spot.

Stone Pizza is a delightful gem nestled in Downtown Dartmouth, where pizza lovers can indulge in both classic and innovative toppings. The inviting atmosphere features exposed brick and light wood interiors, creating a cozy dining experience. This pizzeria stands out with its impressive selection of vegan options, including Vegan Pepperoni and Garlic Fingers, or you can customize your own creation to suit your taste buds. Each pizza is crafted with fresh ingredients right before your eyes and baked on a traditional stone for that extra burst of flavor.
As a gluten-intolerant person this is my favorite place to order pizza!! They are serious about food allergies and I can trust them not to make me sick! Also the pizza is AMAZING!!! I can’t even tell it’s gluten free!! 10/10 the best pizza in HRM! And they have gluten free garlic fingers 😍

Their pizza and garlic fingers are amazing!! You can tell how much care the owner puts into everything. He makes most of his own sauces from scratch and has spent a lot of time perfecting the dough, and it shows! The pizza was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. You can really taste the difference compared to other local places! He also caters weddings, which says a lot about the quality and passion behind the food. If you haven't been yet, definitely check it out. It's a hidden gem and totally worth the visit!

Pizzas were good, got the waterfront works, chicken wing, and dill pickle pizza. The waterfront works had a bunch of stuff on it. I would definitely recommend that one. The chicken wing pizza was good, It just didn't look like the picture much, and the dill pickle pizza was fairly good I wish there was more flavor to it though. It is on the pricey end for pizza but for specialty pizza is not a terrible price.

I love Stone Pizza ! It’s soooo good and fresh! Great classic pizza choices as well as some adventurous delicious ones ! Today we got the margarita pizza and a small dill pickle pizza😁 and I picked it up. From calling in my order, driving to pick it up and back home with fresh pizza was less than 1/2 hour! It was even busy in the restaurant when I arrived but the staff was super attentive and quick and friendly too ! I highly recommend Stone Pizza for you and your friends and family!

A couple of times a year....one mushroom makes an appearance....the shy and tasty Chanterelle. It can only be forgaged...and one restaurant in Dartmouth, Oxalis, makes a take-home meal worthy of such an auspicious moment. It is called a Boxalis” Dinner Pasta Kit: a cozy, house-made dinner for two that brings the forest to your fork. Each dinner kit includes: – Freshly made tagliatelle for two – A portion of fresh chanterelles + ready-to-heat chanterelle cream sauce – House-baked focaccia with compound truffle butter – Tiramisu to share All you need to do is cook the pasta, sauté the mushrooms, warm the sauce, and enjoy. It was an experience worthy of its limited appearance. Thanks, Oxalis, for a quick and unique Sunday dining experience.

My husband and I went to Oxalis for our anniversary, and I can honestly say it was the best dining experience of my life. I’m not someone who settles for basic food — I’m a true food lover, and I’ve tried many places — but nothing has ever come close to what we experienced here. The tasting menu was nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was composed with such care, and the flavors complemented each other in ways that felt both surprising and perfectly harmonious. Each bite was memorable, and by the end, we both agreed we had never eaten food this delicious before. The menu may be on the expensive side, but it was worth every single dollar for such a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The service was just as remarkable. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, checking in often enough to make sure we were comfortable but never interrupting the flow of our evening. Meeting the chef at the end was the perfect finishing touch — it was clear how much passion and artistry goes into every dish. This dinner wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. Oxalis set the bar so high, I don’t think anything else will compare. Absolutely remarkable.

Fabulous restaurant with equally fabulous food and service. Beautiful wine library, and superbly plated foods. Almost too beautiful to eat, but so delicious! Photo is of the halibut main course dish I had.
Sue K — Google review
Great service and a relaxed, casual vibe. We ordered the chef’s menu along with a few other tempting options. The unexpected treats from the chef between courses were a delightful surprise and truly impressive. I highly recommend saving room for their dessert. Some reviews mention the restaurant is overpriced, but I have to disagree. If you’ve done enough cooking at home, you’ll recognize that these dishes are far more than just good presentation—you can taste the time, effort, and skill that go into creating such well-balanced combinations. To get the same level of food and service in better location like downtown Halifax/Toronto/Montreal, you’d easily spend more. One small suggestion: please consider adding window or door screens. We did end up with a few mosquito bites by the end of our meal.

If you are looking for a special place to go in Dartmouth, this is it! Oxalis is a lovely spot to fine dine, nice atmosphere, great food, impeccable presentation. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Delfina — Google review
I had been surprised when dining here, I’ve heard good things. My husband and I were brought to the patio seating, it was beautiful and I love the aesthetic outside, very Dartmouth. Nicely secluded (and I believe dogs are welcome). However, do not wear heels. As a heels wearer, I’m used to the hills and potholes, but I was not expecting to walk on gravel and also be seated on it. I would guess no one was, it had looked like even the servers didn’t have the best footing in it. The chairs are comfortable though and they offer blankets to keep warm if there’s a chill. We both decided to get the four course meal and started with the picnic. As a starter, it was delicious. It looked a little different than I had seen afterwards and had been curious about some of the cured meats and where it came from (Sobeys multipack?). I loved the four course dinner, it’s a taster of everything else on their menu. At 106$, it was a great amount of food for me! I was full. The only things I didn’t care for was the cucumber soup, as a chilled soup, it was great, but I was already a little cold and it was a little too salty. The presentation was great for all the dishes! We loved the salmon pops, those were fun. The past was divine, if you love a mushroom pasta, that’s one to try (It’s no mushroom ravioli! 🐀✨) it had chanterelles and so buttery. Perfect. I did find the beef a bit salty, but that may be preference or just how it turned out that day. The dessert was extra sweet and delicious, the syrup poured over it was a nice touch but a little overboard and over powering near the end of it. It kind of made everything turn into slop and a wet mess. Not a bad thing, maybe I didn’t eat it fast enough. Overall it was a great unique experience and delicious. Our server was great, he was super sweet, accommodating and made us feel well kept! He had dropped good knowledge on the yummy food and made sure we knew what was what. 5/5 ⭐️! They recommend you have 2.5 hours for the course and also offer wine pairings, which maybe I’ll save for another time. I’d love to go back and see what changes they have for the fall. It’s a unique place and they have some seating inside and upstairs in the building, the front bathroom did feel a little messy, the water kind of sits on the sink area.

Located in Downtown Dartmouth, Lake City Cider is a craft cidery that takes advantage of Nova Scotia's finest apples to create small-batch ciders. The tasting room offers a selection of 8 taps for visitors to explore the diverse flavors influenced by the region. Whether you prefer a flight, pint, or bottles to go, there's something for every cider enthusiast. Customers praise Lake City Cider for its mastery of balance, mouthfeel, acidity, and dryness in their ciders.
Not a big drinker but so in love with their ciders. The raspberry and apple crisp are my absolute favourite. A small store with cute design and friendly staff. I wish they have locations outside of Nova scotia.

On Canada Day, there were many people, it was pet-friendly, and the atmosphere was excellent! I particularly enjoyed the crisp apple-flavored cider 🍺, which was reasonably priced and perfect for a chat and a short stay.

This is a great space! Well designed, bright and has a sunny little patio. Had a peach cider which was incredibly delicious and peachy but not too sweet. Excellent selection of ciders. I would’ve liked a short description of each (I don’t love asking for details on every single one before ordering and i’m sure it’s annoying for staff). Would also be great to have the percentage of alcohol listed! Absolutely recommend stopping by!

A must visit while in Dartmouth, or a reason to take the ferry from Halifax! Nice outdoor seating area, as well as cozy indoor vibe. Shared space with a brewery, which means 2 for 1 😅. The bar's team takes pride in creating inventive cocktails using seasonally fresh and local ingredients, ensuring a constantly rotating menu that keeps guests excited with something new to look forward to. The cocktail menu features nostalgic ingredients like Fruit Loops infused into sophisticated recipes, catering to various palates including zero-proof options. Visitors can expect efficient and friendly service while enjoying their drinks at the bar.
Great date spot! My partner and I liked the vibes here. The high top rail area is a nice spot for cocktails, small plates and intimate conversation. The music and ambiance are cozy and cool. Has a speak easy vibe without the snobbery or cheesy passwords. Food is more upscale/refined snack bar type menu. Great seafood options. Delicious cocktails. Server/bartender was well experienced and fun. (Didn’t take many pics)

This was our first time visiting Nova Scotia, and this was the very first restaurant we tried & it set the bar high! This is a must try in Halifax. This place features amazing cocktails and seafood dishes, and the atmosphere is warm and engaging. Our bartender Mona was exceptional. We really appreciate his creative takes with dealer’s choice cocktails after we ordered many items from their meticulously crafted menu, and his conversations at the bar really elevated our experience. We will definitely come back to Halifax just for Dear Friend!!

I rarely post reviews, but can’t not after dining at dear friend. Having lived in Halifax 20 years ago, I can honestly say that the dining scene has improved for the better and exponentially. Spent 10 years in San Francisco after that (plus frequent business travel to New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, etc.) and that left me with a pretty high bar when it comes to dining out. Service - personable, knowledgeable and just the right amount of attention. Ambiance - Maritime hygge and comfortably casual. Cocktails - top notch and creative. Food - this menu could compete anywhere from Yaletown and Queen St. W. to Pacific Heights (SF), Park Slope (Brooklyn) and Shoreditch (London). We had all but five items on the menu. Favourites were the oysters, steak tartare, zucchini tart, halibut, duck and strawberry mille-feuille. Bravo, Chef!!!

A great place. The food was enjoyable, and the cocktails were tasty. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would be happy to go back again. Be sure to book ahead of time. By the time we finished the food and drinks, there were about a dozen people waiting outside for space to open up for them to come inside.

Amazing spot for a girl's night out with lots of chatters and a glass of well-made cocktail 🍸✨️ the vibe of the bar is unmatched with the diverse selection of drinks. Wonderful time at the patio during the summer hot day with a cold drink in your hand! The only downside is that it could get quite loud if you are sitting inside, which you might have to start yelling to the person next to you. Glad to see this place existing in the other side of the harbour from Halifax.
Kitty K — Google review
Dear Friend, why don't you like me? My date and I walked into Dear Friend at 6:30 on the last Sunday in December. The restaurant was at least half full, and there was not a single server or staff member on the floor or behind the bar. This felt really bizarre. Who was serving these people? After two minutes, a server emerged. The couple who showed up just after us were sat at a table that seats four. Meanwhile, my date and I were sat at a table right beside the drafty door that felt like the end of an ironing board. My date doesn't drink alcohol, and the menu says to "ask about non-alcoholic cocktails." So we did, and the server said they could "make us anything." How should one respond to that question? Why not just put a non-alcoholic cocktail on the menu or write somewhere, "Don't ask." As for food, we decided on the "Let us cook for you" option. Six courses for $50! I would have been shocked by that low price at the end of 2014 let alone 2024. The price felt incredibly generous when the first course was a bowl of tuna tartare and a half dozen oysters. The tartare was bland, though. Topped with minced radish and red apples that had little flavour, the dish would have been better off with a sour green apple or something with acidity. The wasabi cream was fine, but there wasn't enough of it. Chebooktook oysters are meant to be sweet for east coast oysters, but they were salty and pungent to the point where they felt like they were on the edge of being off. And this was nearly the highlight of the meal. The strange second course was a bowl of twenty-five tough, salty green olives. Who wants to eat over a dozen olives on their own? This wasn't a course, it was a fraction of a dish. The third course was maybe the best of the night, a falafel about the size and shape of a cigarette with cashew cream and nice acidity. Small but tasty. The fourth course was another strange one, roast carrots in a cashew cream sauce. This was a perfectly fine dish. But like the olives, why would I eat this dish on its own? It would be nice served alongside fish, beef, chicken, etc., but is it a dish or just a side? The fifth course was a small bite of "chicken and waffles." This is where I truly lost confidence in the chef and restaurant. This was the most chefy and ridiculous take on chicken and waffles. Instead of deep fried chicken, you get liver parfait. Instead of maple, there was some sort of cranberry compote. The waffle was dense and super spongey. An Eggo would have been preferred. Please take this dish off of the menu. Surely they aren't going to move onto a dessert course next, I thought, without some actual main dish with substantial protein. No, first we got to try four gnocchis each with a fleck of mushroom on top. So basically, other than some tartare, three oysters, and a spread of liver parfait, the menu was basically all vegetarian. That's how one gets six courses for $50. You're mostly getting vegetables and small bites and a few oysters going off. But oh great, there was a seventh dessert course, too. The espresso martini tiramisu was truly embarrasing, the worse dessert I've had at any restaurant ever. They drowned a light and airy chocolate sponge cake in espresso martini, so that there were pools of liquid turning the cake grainy and gross. There's a reason tiramisu soaks a very specific type of ladyfinger in a coffee -- you can't just soak any cake or baked good in liquid. Who came up with this dish? Why? Why, yes. Why did I spend all this time writing this review? The server didn't seem to care much about the issues I had with the meal, for one, and I thought management might. But this restaurant does not seem to care about your enjoyment. They care about their chefy creation, ego without substance. If you're going to try this restaurant, just order off the normal menu and definitely steer clear of the oysters. I could imagine composing a decent enough meal of 5-6 proper dishes for $120-140. Instead, my date and I threw away $100 on this strange tasting menu. Dear Friend is clearly no friend of mine.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Dartmouth, Side Hustle Snack Bar is a culinary gem that has transformed from a cozy tap room into a stylish full-service restaurant. With an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients, this trendy eatery offers an array of creative dishes bursting with flavor. Whether you're craving the indulgent Sweet & Salty French toast topped with caramelized banana and miso caramel or prefer something savory for breakfast, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Holy moly this was fantastic. I hitched a ride on the ferry from Halifax to check out Ice Fest 2025. Which was a little underwhelming, at night anyways. I knew I was going to be grabbing dinner, and knew I was definitely going to be making that stop at Side Hustle. I’ve heard nothing but good things and love seeing a small to medium sized menu. It was a little busy, but there were open spots at the bar and it was just me. So I grabbed a beer and got to chatting with the bartender while I looked at the menu. He recommended the fried chicken sandwich, even though the smashie is excellent, he prefers the chicken. So I grabbed that. The flavours were fantastic, the bun soft and non intrusive(it was small). The chicken was juicy and tender and the batter crisp. Now…. The fries. My god the fries. I don’t think I can get enough of the garlic cheese fries they offer. They were absolutely amazing. 100% going to be returning on one of my next trips across the harbour. Thank you, Side Hustle for an amazing meal.

Great burgers! Came here with four friends and we all tried each others plates. Burgers, fried chicken sandwich, loaded fries, rice bowl were all packed with flavour. Super friendly server(forgot name, long dirty-blond hair) and a bright, open, clean space. Kid friendly as well.

We visited Side Hustle Snack Bar in Dartmouth for a weekend brunch with our family (two adults and our five year old), and while it has a lot of potential, and positive reviews by friends, the experience left us underwhelmed. The atmosphere leans toward modern industrial with a cool vibe, but the cleanliness didn’t match the style. Our booth was next to wooden beams that were covered in thick dust … something our curious child couldn’t resist running her hands through. The washroom also needed attention; the dusty fake plant was especially off-putting. Service, however, was a bright spot. Our server was friendly, efficient, and well-informed about the menu. That said, we were only offered the brunch menu, which felt limited. Food-wise, my husband enjoyed his burger, describing it as “similar to a McDouble”. He got it with a side of crispy tater tots and ketchup. Our daughter had a fried egg and garlic fries (ordered as two sides since there’s no kids menu). The fries were a hit, though we weren’t sold on the addition of Parmesan. I ordered “The Diner” which has two eggs, bacon, tater tots, sour dough toast and jam. The eggs were unfortunately undercooked (egg white was not solid), and I found it odd that my plate didn’t include ketchup (unlike my husband’s). And there no basic condiments like salt and pepper and ketchup were provided on the table. Portions were fine, but value was another story. My small brunch plate came in at $20, our daughter’s two side plates totaled $11 with no fruit or veggies, and the burger was $14 plus $5 for the side. The grand total was $57. For that price point, I expected more care in both presentation, selection, and cleanliness. We might return to try their regular menu, but brunch didn’t hit the mark - especially in a neighbourhood that’s known for its up-and-coming food scene.

Came here recently with a group, for my best friend’s birthday celebrations. The atmosphere was amazing, very nice and cozy feel. Great lighting. We had a table in the private area, which made it nice and intimate. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I had an order of the Cauliflower for my appetizer and that was the best tasting cauliflower I’ve ever had. Very flavourful, a little bit of spice to it. 10/10 dish. I had the Smashie for my main and damn was it ever great. Very flavourful and the burger patties were nice and juicy. One of the best smash burgers I’ve had in the city! 10/10 I also ordered the Zing Zing, which is a nonalcoholic cocktail. It was super tasty. I will definitely visit this place again.

We popped in for coffee and dessert, and are impressed with both. We tried both desserts and are going back for dinner. The Fun House coffee is probably one of the tastiest as well. Friendly & attentive service and we appreciated them sharing the recipe to their strawberry cake.

Fantastic and quick service and the food was very good! I got the fish tacos and they were bang on. Free refills on coffee always a nice touch too!

I went to Side Hustle last Friday for a nice dinner out while visiting some friends in Dartmouth. We were seated as soon as we arrived, but not offered menus, water or drinks for 20+ minutes. As 3/4 of our party are vegetarian, we were excited to try some of the many vegetarian options on the menu. We ordered the cauliflower, noodle dish with tofu and rice dish with salt and pepper tofu to share. After trying all of the dishes, we noticed that the "salt and pepper tofu" in the rice dish was actually chicken. This was upsetting and we called the server over. She did not seem to believe us at first and asked us to show her another piece in the dish? She then offered to get us a new dish with tofu instead, but we were already near the end of our meal. We expressed that we did not want another dish and were feeling uneasy as we have not had meat in over 15 years. The server said she would investigate and then did not return for 20 mins to let us know that she was done her shift and the dish was "taken care of". We did not receive an apology and it felt like we were ignored. We ended up going home after instead of our to a concert, as we were were feeling sick. This really ruined what should have been a fun night out. We were disappointed by our experience and will likely not return.

The Smashie is an excellent choice! We enjoyed it so much the first night that we came back the next and got two more. Their other options were also really tasty and the staff was super welcoming! Highly recommend, especially for burger lovers!

Yeah Yeahs Pizza is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic New York-style pizza in Halifax. Nestled in downtown Dartmouth, this pizzeria has quickly become a local favorite, known for its deliciously crafted slices that perfectly blend crispy and chewy textures. The vibrant atmosphere features crayon-covered paper plates and an impressive VHS collection, adding to the charm of your dining experience.
The pizza was the best I have ever had in Halifax/Dartmouth. Also, the staff were incredible and nice. Loved the colorful decorations and atmosphere of the place.

Went based on multiple reviews of online forum, so did not check as I would if I discovered myself. (Dartmouth location) It was a meat pizza, but had too to much pepperoni than meat, don't know if the asking for extra meat would better the order. . Some of the slices were very burnt and can't be eaten, so not too thrilled. Would be careful next time and check my order.

The picture says it all. Amazing pizza. Went on a Saturday and had a slice of the white pizza. Returned on the Sunday and had the pepperoni. Absolutely incredible slice.

Loved "The Meat" pizza, and it was ready in only 10 minutes on a Saturday evening! Some bonus baked goods were a wonderful and welcome addition!

INCREDIBLE PIZZA!! Highly recommend if you like thin crust. It wasn’t busy at all (we went in the morning, to be fair) and the staff were kind. The decorative plates on the walls are also very cute!

Excellent New York style pizza! The staff were kind and welcoming, and the place had a great atmosphere to enjoy a meal. While the meat options aren’t halal, the vegetarian pizza I ordered was absolutely phenomenal flavorful, fresh, and perfectly baked.

Nestled in the charming King's Wharf area of Dartmouth, Millstone Public House is a delightful eatery that beautifully blends classic comfort food with modern culinary flair. This inviting restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring favorites like buttermilk chicken biscuit sliders, calamari, and blackened chicken sandwiches served on fresh ciabatta buns. The outdoor patio welcomes furry friends, making it an ideal spot for pet owners to enjoy waterfront dining without venturing into the bustling Halifax scene.
100% worth a try for some elevated pub fare and flavourful food! This was suggested by a friend from Alberta and we were pleased with the experience. There was a feature menu with some enticing items (including the Reuben) and the regular menu had a good amount of choices including some gluten-free options. I chose to have the blackened haddock (GF) and the sauce tasted homemade and a refreshing change from the usual haddock preparations you find in Halifax. The Reuben was loaded with all the good stuff and fries were the right amount of crisp without tasting dry. They offer a 1/2 and 1/2 salad and fries combo for most of the handhelds and burgers which is such a lovely touch and not something you see enough these days. Caesar salad has a nice zing to it and also tasted freshly prepared. If we come back we will certainly try more items! They carried the local Coldstream seltzers as well for a very fair price. Dartmouth location is away from the busy scene and gives you that nice view of the water.

Me and my girlfriend had a good experience here! We were looking for a place to eat with her two dogs and were able to enjoy a meal on the patio, they brought them a water dish right away. We had great service overall and my girlfriend’s food was delicious, my burger fell a little short of expectation as it tasted like no seasoning was added. Another frustration was the sinks in the washroom, another one of those sensor sensitive taps that never seemed to work. Overall would come back

Amazing place to eat! Our server Alisha, was so nice and welcoming! Very accommodating and never rushed us. Also funny too! Food & Drinks were great! If you’re looking for a burger, the millstone burger is really good if you like that savoury taste. And the pink lemonade was SO GOOD. Really nice water view at the back of the restaurant! Highly recommend booking for a water view seating! Definitely coming here again!

First time trying out this restaurant by the water. Very nice atmosphere! It was a Wednesday night after the dinner rush so it was quite quiet. My family and I shared the fusion nachos and it was different and delicious! I had the fish & chips of Haddock. The fish had a good texture but it was a little oily. The Lemon Thyme Refresher was delicious and refreshing! My husband had the creamy scallop tuscana and it was amazing! The food presentation were very nice!

This spot is a regular spot for my family and myself. Over the years we have noticed it decline. It’s very sad, actually. Last night was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve experienced. Someone posted a similar experience about last evening 8 hours ago, which is validating. We were seated at 6:30ish and drinks happened right away. 40 minutes later our waiter finally took our orders. He did not check in prior and we found it difficult to flag him down when we did see him. We were informed there was no cheese and NO alterations that can be made on the burger week burger. They did substitute it for provolone (that’s fine). Once we ordered our waiter again did not approach our table. I had to finally flag him down to refill my drink. He did not ask if anyone else needed anything and left right away. So, again, we had to ask for more when he arrived. 8:00 our food arrived. Some had burgers, some had pasta. We realized then, there was not cutlery or napkins. Because the waiter was MIA I had to get up and find someone. I spoke to a waitress and tipped her off that this night was really going sideways and everyone is waiting for cutlery. She looked confused. We never got checked in on ONCE. I had to try and flag the waiter for drink refills and ketchup. Eventually some of the party had to pay their cheque and leave - it was getting late. One of us ordered a Cesar salad which did not come, but was on his bill. The rest of us waited for our cheques and finally, again, I went to find the waitress and let her know this night really did not go well and we are ready to leave. She looked confused and I just didn’t really know what to say. We spotted another table earlier on who was itching for their cheques and trying to find the waiter so they could go. The woman began wandering around to find him. They, along with another table came in after us and left before we even received our food. So to get to the food. The burger week burger, horrible. This was not a “smashed” patty and was lacking actual burger patty as seen in the photo. There was no sauce and no onion. My son’s had two noodles for the mac and cheese. The pickles were lacking. I realize the photo they posted won’t look the same as the one we will be served - but it was actually kind of crazy how little effort was put in. One member of our party got chicken parm and the sauce somehow dried into the chicken. Questionable. The curry chicken had very dry chicken. Our dinner reservation was for 6:30. I left at 8:47. There’s no way it was lost on the waiter and waitress whom I tipped off that this night did not go well. But, from beginning to end it wasn’t good and no apology made. I hope this can be used as constructive criticism for all involved. We don’t want to avoid this spot but, last night went really far between service and food.
Kelsie A — Google review
My husband and I shared our entrees . He had the fish and chips and I had pan fried halibut. Generous pieces of fish fish in both meals and chips were not greasy. The pan fried halibut was what I wanted not highly seasoned served with lemon. I do not recommend the side salad: dressing full of chunky raw garlic in a little paper medication cup. The beet and goat cheese salad came without any goat cheese; but in general the food was quite good

The Five Fishermen is a renowned restaurant located in a historic building in downtown Halifax, offering upscale seafood and steak dishes sourced locally. The restaurant's setting adds to its allure, as it operates from a monumental building with a rich history dating back to 1817. While the establishment has ties to intriguing stories such as haunted halls and connections to the Titanic, its focus remains on delivering exceptional cuisine.
We went for a late supper on a Thursday evening in July and was pleasantly greeted by staff. They sat us right away without a reservation. This is a beautifully decorated modern gem in an old building located downtown Halifax. Our server was attentive and super knowledgeable about wine and the menu items. She gave us a lovely recommendation that paired well with our meal and offered next day tour suggestions for wineries! The food was outstanding and worthy of a return visit. We came to this restaurant from a referral and we were pleasantly surprised! Go enjoy a fine dining experience here, as you won’t be disappointed!

Our flight back to Toronto was scheduled for 10 PM, so we decided to make the most of our last evening in Halifax by having dinner somewhere near the Prince George Hotel. While browsing for nearby restaurants on Google, we came across this spot and thought it looked promising—so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we were surprised to discover that the building actually houses two different restaurants. Since we didn’t have a reservation, the hostess offered us bar seating upstairs at The Five Fishermen, which we gladly accepted. The ambiance upstairs was warm, stylish, and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing dinner. We were served by a cool and friendly bartender who made us feel right at home. We decided to start with two appetizers, followed by our main courses. Everything we ordered was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. I’m a huge fan of seafood, and this place definitely delivered on flavor and quality. To top it all off, the staff surprised us with a sweet gesture at the end of our meal in celebration of our anniversary. It was a thoughtful touch that truly made the evening feel extra special and memorable. If you’re in Halifax and looking for a nice spot to enjoy a quality meal—especially if you love seafood—I highly recommend checking this place out. The service, food, and atmosphere were all on point, and it was a perfect way to wrap up our trip.

We had high hopes for Five Fishermen, and while there were definitely some highlights, the overall experience didn’t quite justify the price. First off, the atmosphere is lovely—refined but not stuffy—and the service was wonderful throughout. Our server was friendly and attentive, which really helped set the tone for the night. We originally wanted to try a couple of cocktails, but the prices were sky-high, so we stuck with beer instead. Thankfully, the beer selection was solid and went well with our meals. I ended up ordering the burger, mostly because the steaks were way out of our price range. That said, I was pleasantly surprised—the burger was excellent. Super juicy, with a delicious aioli and tomato jam that really elevated it. My wife had the vegetarian risotto, and while she enjoyed it once everything was mixed together, the base risotto itself was pretty bland. Not a bad dish, but definitely not worth what we paid for it. If we weren’t on a budget, we might have been able to explore more of the menu—and maybe that would have changed our impression. But as it stands, this one’s a 3 out of 5 for us. Nice place, but just too expensive for what we got.

I had the Five Fish Experience and the oysters — both were absolutely outstanding! The oysters were large, fresh, and delicious, and their mignonette was divine. The Five Fish meal was generous and perfectly prepared. What truly made the evening unforgettable was the service. Laura went above and beyond — I’ve never felt so well attended to. The hostesses were also wonderful and welcoming, even taking my coat upon arrival. From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The Five Fishermen definitely did not disappoint!

We had a date night here on Wednesday. We just wanted some lobster before leaving the city and this restaurant fulfilled that wish. Our server Alishia was amazing. Her wine recommendation complimented our meal well. The lobster Mac and cheese was tasty and so was the mash that came with the lobster dinner! The lemon loaf 6 ways was quite interesting as a finisher to our night.

We went here to celebrate a birthday. The diner was fantastic. The food was really refined, great in taste. They have a nice selection of drinks to accompany the food. Staff was super friendly and genuine. Price is a bit on the higher side but fully worth it. We had a great evening.

McKelvie's Restaurant is a refined dining spot located in a former fire station dating back to 1906, situated across from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. It strikes a balance between upscale and down-home, offering classic seafood dishes like oysters Rockefeller and surf and turf, as well as contemporary twists on seafood classics. The menu caters to various dietary preferences with options for vegetarians, vegans, and those requiring gluten-friendly meals.
This was our favorite restaurant while visiting Halifax. We ended up going 2 nights in a row. The food and service were amazing. We both had the sea food chowder on both nights because it's that good. I had the maple pecan salmon the first evening, and the fish fry the second. We will definitely go back the next time we visit Halifax. The restaurant is also decorated beautifully.
Isabelle Z — Google review
We had dinner at McKelvie’s during our trip to Halifax. Overall, the experience was just okay. The kale salad was the highlight—fresh, well-seasoned, and honestly the best part of the meal. We also ordered the lobster, but it was underwhelming. It lacked flavour and didn’t really stand out, especially compared to other seafood we had on this trip. The jambalaya was another letdown—it didn’t have much depth or spice, and the dish felt a bit flat. The service was fine and the setting was nice, but the food didn’t leave much of an impression. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly memorable either. It felt like one of those places that’s okay if you’re nearby and hungry, but not one I’d go out of my way to recommend. I’d give it a 3 out of 5 stars. Not bad, not great—just average.

I brought my fiancé here for his birthday dinner because he wanted lobster with butter. And this was the perfect lobster dinner. They even showed us the lobsters in the tank including a crazy 5lb one! Our waitress was amazing and explained how to tackle eating the lobster. Very tasty food and a great choice for the lobster.

Decent Spot for Drinks & Apps, but Didn’t Quite Wow Us We originally planned to have dinner at McKelvie’s, but after getting a few local recommendations, we decided to head elsewhere for the main meal. That said, we still stopped in later that night for a couple of drinks and some appetizers, just to check it out. There’s a solid selection of craft beers and cocktails, and the service was friendly. The atmosphere, though, felt a bit underwhelming—not quite as lively or unique as many of the other Halifax spots we visited during our trip. We tried a couple of appetizers: the cornbread with chipotle butter and the burrata. I actually thought the cornbread was pretty tasty, but my wife wasn’t a fan of the flavour combo with the chipotle butter. The burrata was just okay—not bad, but nothing memorable. Even the locals weren’t praising it. Feels like a chain restaurant. There’s plenty of better options around in our opinion. Overall, it was a decent stop for some light fare and drinks, but compared to the other amazing restaurants in Halifax, McKelvie’s didn’t really stand out for us.
Mike J — Google review
Visited Halifax for the first time and I was dying to try a fresh lobster dinner. <Myth - lobster is cheaper closer to the source where it's caught. It's not.> I ordered the 1lb lobster dinner and this is what it came with. The lobster was sweet and tasty but there's not miuch of it after the carapace and shell are removed. I was not full when I left. The service was average, the server did not ask me if I wanted anything else over and above water. This 1lb dinner as shown cost $60+taxes and tip. I did not leave feeling like I had the most amazing lobster dinner or experience. I was hoping to be wowed and this restaurant fell short. I suspect there are better places to try.
Betty D — Google review
I had the lobster roll with a cup of chowder. It was the smallest lobster roll I had in my 2 week visit. And I had many! Partner had the crab/lobster burger and we each had one beer. The food was ok but not better than anywhere else. It wasn't worth $106.The reason for the low score is value for money.

The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar is a charming dining venue located in one of the oldest buildings in Halifax, offering a unique formal dining experience. The restaurant's rustic 18th-century space exudes a historic maritime ambiance, complemented by live music and classic cocktails. Its menu features an array of delectable seafood, meat, poultry, and game dishes to cater to diverse palates.
The Press Gang was our favorite restaurant during our two-week trip to Nova Scotia. Housed in one of the province’s oldest buildings, dating back to 1759, it offers a unique and memorable dining experience. We shared the oysters, the 'Bulkeley' Salad, and the Beet Salad to start. For our mains, we had the Tide and Stride and the Lobster Boil—both were outstanding. Our server was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Marie K — Google review
After returning to the Press Gang for the first time in over 15 years, we were excited to relive our fond memories of the "The Drill" tasting menu. This time, we opted for a la carte, starting with oysters and a main course. The oysters, at $3.75 each, were more expensive than we've seen in Toronto. We ordered 16, which were just okay. We also found it odd that we weren't offered bread, and the amount of lemon provided was stingy. The by-the-glass wine selection was quite limited. For our mains, we ordered the halibut and the tenderloin, both of which were overcooked despite our request for medium. While the ambiance was as wonderful as we remembered, the service was inconsistent—at times overly attentive and at others, completely absent. Overall, we were a little disappointed. We spent 300$ for 2 ...👎💲💲💲

The Press Gang Restaurant & Oyster Bar made for a perfect Halifax night out. Tucked into a historic stone cellar, it feels warm and intimate the moment you walk in. We started at the oyster bar—sparkling-fresh East Coast oysters with classic mignonette and a squeeze of lemon—then moved on to beautifully executed mains (think buttery lobster and a perfectly cooked steak). Cocktails were balanced, service was attentive without hovering, and the pacing let us linger and enjoy. It’s a special-occasion spot that still feels relaxed and welcoming. Pro tip: book ahead and arrive a little early to grab a seat at the oyster bar before dinner.

Food is not bad, just too much butter and cream for my taste. Price is high for what you get. Service was good, although the mains took longer than expected to come out. Uniquely designed restaurant in a historic building.

I had an amazing dinner at this restaurant and bar! I ordered the lobster, jumbo shrimp, and scallop risotto, it was absolutely DELICIIIOUUUS and you could really taste the freshness of the seafood. They also have a great and varied menu, plus an oyster bar that looked fantastic. The barmaid was super friendly and attentive, I told her the type of alcohol I liked and a bit about my taste, and she took care of the rest. The drink she made was a real delight 👌 Definitely a place I’d recommend and would love to come back to!

Waterfront Warehouse is a cozy restaurant with a rustic ambiance, serving an array of seafood delicacies and raw bar items alongside an impressive selection of beers and cocktails. One of its standout dishes is the lobster mac & cheese, perfectly balancing the richness of lobster with the indulgence of this classic comfort food. Situated near Salt Yard, a vibrant public space on Halifax's waterfront, Waterfront Warehouse offers visitors the chance to savor delicious meals while enjoying scenic views and sea air along the boardwalk.
We came here twice during our vacation. The restaurant has a nice fun atmosphere. The food here is excellent! We had the molasses brown bread, fried calamari, and bacon wrapped scallops for appetizers, and fish and chips and lobster rolls for dinner. Everything was so delicious and there was a lot of lobster in the rolls. Even the fries are super good and crunchy. We had the blueberry buckle for dessert. Our server Maggie was very nice and friendly and took good care of us. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

We were craving fresh seafood and this place have the best selections. Open bar and wide variety of drinks. Service was fast and friendly. We had raw scallops, little neck and cherry clams. Very good. The fish and chips is also very good. Best of all the whole lobsters were very fresh and perfectly cooked. Must try when in this area.

We had a great time at Waterfront Warehouse on the Halifax waterfront during our Maritimes trip. The place has a fun and casual vibe, perfect for hanging out and sharing food with friends or family. We ordered the watermelon salad, which was super refreshing and light. The lobster fries were rich and full of flavour, and the lobster rolls were fresh and tasty. The scallops were the star of the meal—cooked perfectly, tender, and full of flavour. We also tried the fried calamari, which was crispy and not greasy at all. Everything came in generous portions, which made it great for sharing. The service was friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. Sitting by the water added to the experience, and it was just a really enjoyable meal overall. If you’re visiting Halifax and want good seafood in a relaxed spot, this is a solid choice. I’d definitely come back.

I had the fish and chips and I couldn’t fault it. My wife chose the tuna poke and it was delicious and large enough to satisfy even the hungriest diner we also had a stood fresh clams which were fresh and in my opinion tastier than oysters. You must try the molasses bread with whipped maple butter. The beer selection was also great. Wow. Best meal in every way. Great servers.

We had such a great experience here! The servings were very generous, so it’s definitely worth the price. On top of that, the service was impressively fast and friendly, which made the whole dining experience even better. Waterfront Warehouse is a good option to go to if you’re looking to eat somewhere with a more laid back vibe. Their servers are friendly & do come around often. They also have a ton of seating so walk ins didn’t take long to get seated. They also have a good variety of options on their menu, but being on the east coast meant choosing all their seafood options. We of course had to get their oysters & the server was knowledgeable on the different oysters given. We also ordered the lobster poutine which was a 9/10. It was very good but not as much lobster in it as I thought. The fish & chips was a massive portion and the fish was so fresh! The batter was light & didn’t drown out the fish itself.

Sophia our server and Krista the Manager are THE BEST!!! We were visiting Halifax for a conference and a group of us decided to head over for some dinner. There was a very small issue with one of our meals. Sophia was very helpful and apologetic. Krista was brought alerted and she came to our table immediately to tend to our friend. They were the BEST and I would highly recommend anyone to come the restaurant. - Cherrystone Clams - Lobster Roll - Whole Lobster Dinner - Lobster Poutine - Fish and Chips ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

a Mano used to be one of my go-to spots three years ago, with its rich, diverse menu and bold, memorable flavors. Unfortunately, the recent visit left me feeling underwhelmed. The updated menu is now heavily seafood-focused, and the smell of seafood was quite strong as soon as you get in the restaurant, something I personally don’t enjoy. At first glance, we even considered leaving, but decided to give it a try. We ordered two pizzas, which were just average, not bad, but nothing memorable either. The fettuccine, unfortunately, was overwhelmed by lemon flavor. That was the only note I could taste, and I barely managed three bites. Don't get me wrong, I love lemon but I was hoping for rich creamy fettuccine. The tomato-based pasta was okay, nothing special. I also wasn’t a fan of the soft drinks being from a fountain machine, something I tend to avoid. Overall, I really miss the a Mano of the past. The quality and variety that once made this place special seem to have faded. I hope they consider bringing back some of the original charm.

I was there today for lunch and I can confirm that everything was excellent. The linguine with clams was good, just a little too much chilli. The fried calamari was good. The tiramisu was good but it could improve if they used less mascalpone. I will definitely go back.

I’d call this place pretty good. They do homemade pasta really really well here. The ravioli in particular was excellent! Service was lovely. I did find the food and the vibe to be lacking in authenticity. Take for example the sad bread (pictured here) which costs 8$ and is served with what tastes like spicy salsa from a jar.. Just not my cup of tea really. My steak was cooked properly but underseasoned. If you’re craving a glass of wine and a bowl of homemade pasta then a mano is a good choice. All around though, this place gave me a corporate vibe and I think there are better places to eat in Halifax. Would give 3.5 stars if I could.

We came here twice while in Halifax. The first time was on Thanksgiving. The food and drinks were amazing but the service was a bit lacking. We were left on our own a little too long and there was some clear communication gaps between the servers about our asks. Luckily the tiramisu was out of this world and we had to come back for seconds. Our second trip was amazing. The servers were great and they helped to accomodate one of our party who had an allergy. Would recommend the tiramisu a million times over. The ravioli and the lobster gnocchi received top marks.

MAKE A RESERVATION! Went on a Thursday and it was absolutely packed at 7 PM. We had a reservation for a nice two top inside. Ordered a drink and meal each, plus bread to start. Serving for the bread was small, I’d recommend a different starter. Pastas were great, I believe the whole menu is solid and can’t imagine a problem with any item, everyone around us was happy and satisfied. Our service was great, enjoyed a free scoop of gelato for our anniversary with a sparkler. Drinks were a mimosa and the “secret agent” which were presented amazingly and tasted great. Prices are reasonable considering the waterfront atmosphere.

I have mixed opinions about my recent visit here. Some really positive things, and some really negative things. The good: - The food is incredible. If this rating was strictly to do with food, there is no question it would be 5/5 stars. Everything was absolutely perfect and delicious. - The service was amazing. The server was one of the best I've ever had. Attentive, but not hovering too much, remembered drink refills, etc. Absolutely perfect service. The bad: - The atmosphere. The tables are so close to one another in most of this place that you can barely have a conversation with the person you are with because all you hear is the table next to you because they are so close. It was so bad, this is the primary reason the rating is 3/5 stars, and it's the primary reason I wouldn't return. I understand wanting to pack as many people into the place as possible to make the most $, but for me that isn't an enjoyable experience at all. It's one of the loudest and most cramped places I've ever eaten. There are some sections where the tables are so close to one another that you have to turn sideways and shuffle through. I'd prefer if management prioritize a more enjoyable atmosphere than to squeeze as much $ by cramming in as many tables as possible. - The smell of fish. The menu seems to lean quite heavily in seafood, which is fine, but at certain points when dishes come out the smell of fish is overwhelming. If you have any kind of aversion to fish... I would highly recommend not dining here. It's really a shame about the atmosphere, because the food and service are so perfect.

Overall a good restaurant, and one of my wife’s favourites. However, I will never order takeout from here again. Waiting 48 minutes, when I was told it would take 30 minutes is fine, it happens. But, dealing with a disrespectful, unprofessional, and unwelcoming host ruins the experience. He couldn’t have been worse if he tried. The lady at the front was kind and helpful, but the gentlemen ruined the experience and dinner. Thanks.

Henry House is a historic British-style establishment located in downtown Halifax, near the waterfront. Housed in an 18th-century ironstone building that was once the residence of Canadian politician William Alexander Henry, this three-level restaurant and pub offers a blend of local and imported beers along with classic pub fare and Maritime cuisine. The upper level exudes casual elegance, serving as a formal dining room, while the lower level provides a more relaxed pub atmosphere with cozy booths and open two-person tables.
Wow! Visited this wonderful pub on my last night in Halifax. It was a wonderful meal to end my trip. The atmosphere and decor is incredible. The servers were super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. I had the pan seared haddock and it blew my mind. It was cooked perfectly. The cocktails are amazing and tasty. I ended the night with the strawberry cheesecake, GOD DAMN! This place was so good I would fly to Halifax just to have a meal here. I will return one day.

Henry House was my introduction to fish & chips, and it remains as good as that first time. A nice venue with indoor and outdoor seating, good service. The fish is soft like butter inside that great batter, and the tartar sauce is amazing (dill is the secret ingredient….shh). I will continue to return every time I am in Halifax!

While visiting the Halifax Public Gardens I asked a local where my wife and I should go for dinner. (I was looking for a place the locals go to.) He recommended Henry House. We were not disappointed! Pub fare well above average, price that I consider to be reasonable and attentive service. I can see why local go to the Henry House.

While exploring downtown Halifax, we decided to stop by The Henry House after hearing it was a favorite among locals and it did not disappoint! The cozy historic setting, attentive service, and outstanding food made for a great evening. Every dish was flavorful and perfectly prepared, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and inviting.

Wow! Sunday night visit. Amazing attentive service. Food was delicious! Artichoke dip. Burger & fries. Chicken tikka masala & rice. Fish & chips. Beer on tap. All superb! Ended off with house made butterscotch pudding, lemon cheesecake, crème brûlée. Yum!! We loved it so much we came back on our last day in Halifax. Thus time we ordered lunch; minestrone soup, lobster cheese corn fritters and club wrap. Did not disappoint.

I really enjoyed the lamb shank — the sweetness was just right, not too much. The patio was cozy with a great vibe, and it’s dog-friendly. There’s also a free parking garage behind the restaurant!

John's Lunch in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is a legendary landmark near the wharf that has been serving up straight-up fish 'n' chips since 1969. It has gained widespread recognition for having the best fish and chips in Canada, as awarded by various media outlets. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh battered haddock and fries made from a daily morning recipe.
John's Lunch came highly recommended and definitely lived up to expectations. The location is great with ferry and bus access at Woodside and easily accessible regardless of where you're coming from. The service was prompt and really friendly. They know they're good but they are humble about it, and this is probably what makes them the best. The haddock was probably the best I've ever had and the rice pudding was great, too. I will definitely return in the future and I think you should too.
David V — Google review
Our first lunch in Nova Scotia and it was delicious. Simple and unpretentious fish and chips. The portions were very generous and quick service. The only thing that can make it better was the fries. It’s the frozen cheap fries. If these were home fries, this would be the best I’ve ever had. At $17.50 for 3 pcs, we shared it between the 2 of us and was stuffed. Don’t forget about the vinegar based coleslaw as it was needed to break up the fried taste. Highly recommend this place. We tried to go back again but it was closed on our last day in town.
Minh L — Google review
I went into this with high hopes. I was excited to try the fish and chips as they’re “the best around”. The staff were extremely friendly and it seemed like a very small town local spot. The coleslaw was very good, 5/5. But unfortunately that’s we’re the good reviews end. The fish and chips were visually appealing but under the nice crisp was a layer of gooey dough and overly greasy fish. I suspect they are par-cooked before being served. The fries were very clearly frozen before as they had no potato flesh. Just a crust. Overly crispy and no substance to them. It’s a shame since they have such high ratings overall. That being said, the meal was $15 all in and the food came out extremely fast and hot. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Amazing seafood! Definitely recovering this restaurant iconic. Every community has that amazing restaurant that has lasted for many, many decades. John's lunch is that place. Testimonials on the wall and printed on the place mats. Very large servings, very good quality. My go-to items are the scallops, fried clams and haddock fish and chips.

Good food, gravy is terrible I'm not sure if they use nutmeg or Cinnamon but it is the most disgusting gravy. Dirty cups, dirty forks. Great service, very friendly, They need to change there gravy I can't stress that enough. Pleasant street uses the same recipe I think it's absolutely terrible. I come from a family of Cooks so I know good gravy. Fast service , food was nice and fresh, hot.

John's lunch is a must stop shop whenever I visit Halifax. The seafood served at John's Lunch is almost as good as the restaurant's service, which is to say that it is world-class. The portion sizes are incredible by any consideration, but given the very reasonable pricing, there is nowhere else you can eat to get a similar bang out of your buck.
TheSquamch — Google review
Food was served fast and freshly made. Service was attentive and friendly. The fried whole clams meal is what brings me back to visit again and again. Cannot say enough about the cleanliness of the diner. And the amazing deliciousness of the food!
Seamus D — Google review
This place has been here since I was a kid. I've visited many times over my years living in Dartmouth. It's a must visit for me when I go back home! The seafood platter is to die for. Generous serving of clams, scallops, shrimp, fries and of course an awesome piece of Halibut. That's my favorite but don't think that's the only good thing on their menu from this! It's loaded with awesome seafood, burgers and pizza to name a few. This place is busy during lunch and supper so plan your visit before or after the rush times. You'll get a table or a counter seat this way. Otherwise prepare for take out. No matter what you won't be disappointed. If you enjoy watching a well tuned kitchen team work you'll get a good show from these folks. They're good at what they do. I can't say enough good about John's Lunch! 👍👍👍👍👍

Your Father's Moustache is a family-owned establishment that has been a staple in Halifax since 1989. It boasts a renowned rooftop patio, known for its all-day sun access and cozy atmosphere with infrared heaters and fire pits. The pub offers an array of local craft beers, spirits, and a diverse pub menu including vegetarian and vegan options. Their traditional poutine is highly recommended, often served with tasty additions like pulled pork.
Always refreshing to see a place put energy and intention behind pub food without making it some sort of elevated other thing. The fries and the sweet hot mess burger were the best I've had in some time. Clubhouse gas too.

Your Father’s Moustache was such a fun and memorable stop during our Halifax trip. It’s got that classic English pub feel—but with a quirky moustache-themed twist that gives it extra charm and personality. They’ve got a great selection of craft beers and cocktails—I went with the Purple Haze and really enjoyed it. Refreshing, balanced, and not overly sweet. For food, I ordered the Chicken and Waffle Sandwich, and wow—it was incredible. Super flavourful, perfectly cooked, and impressively held together even with the runny (and delicious) egg on top. My wife went with the New Orleans pasta, and we were really impressed by how accommodating the kitchen was with her dietary restrictions. They happily swapped out the chicken and ham for shrimp, and the dish still came out beautifully done. You can tell the chef really loves what they do—it absolutely shows in the quality and care of the food. It’s easy to see why this place is a local favourite. Great vibe, great service, and fantastic food and drinks. Highly recommend!

Had lunch at this well known establishment and I'm happy to report that the special I had was delicious and really fresh tasting. Genevieve (Jen) was really sweet, efficient, and observant so the time in between wait times was shortened as a result of her effort. Cajun Haddock - 10/10 Fries - 9/10 (Personal Preference) Customer service - 10/10 The experience met the expectations I had, so I'll definitely keep visiting.

Your Father's Moustache is not the same anymore! Wings night doesn’t exist… costs $1.56 per wing on a Thursday .. you have to purchase a drink + $1 a wing. Not worth it! Sat in the patio no one came to take our order. We switched to downstairs and Kendyl served us. She was great. Prices on the website are less than in restaurant. Probably our last time here

Food is nothing exceptional. Smash burger was ok. Could have had more browning and maybe a bit more salt and pepper, meat wasn’t super flavourful. Bun was nice and fluffy how I like it. One of our burgers had some frits that were a bit burnt which negatively influenced the flavour. Nachos are also ok, ingredients for toppings didn’t seem super fresh, but was ok. Fries were crispy, but hollow Service was good, came out quick. Atmosphere is nice, it’s right in the heart of spring garden so great location. Ok place to go before going somewhere else. Probably would choose somewhere else next time, but wouldn’t be that upset to come back.

Vines Pasta Grill is a great Italian restaurant with a weekly pasta bar, as well as classic favorites like pizza and veal. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. They also have an upstairs dining area for early arrivals, which made our first half of date night feel more intimate and private. Overall, Vines Pasta Grill is reasonably priced, but the quality of their food and service makes it worth the few extra dollars.
It was a very nice Italian restaurant and the food was so delicious. We were a table of 7 and the waitress was so great. She was the only one working and honestly handled all the tables with ease and was so friendly. I had the tortellini, and my spouse had the Cajun fettuccine. Both dishes were perfect. The pasta was very fresh. The ceasar salad was very good, the perfect amount of dressing. Would definitely make this a favorite if I lived here.

We ordered takeout, so atmosphere was a non-factor and the service was provided by the takeout clerk (and she was great!). The food itself was absolutely delicious (rice balls to start, then seafood linguine- but in marinara rather than cream sauce - and a beef ragu pappardelle). I had requested a pickup time a few hours later, and was concerned they might prepare it too far in advance. However, they were just finishing it off when I arrived so it was hot & fresh when I got it home! 👍

This is the first time ever in my life where I’m leaving a review for any sort of establishment but I must say that during my brief stay in Nova Scotia my family went twice to this amazing restaurant - I just knew I had to go again after our first time dining there! Their award-winning Caesar salad really is that good that I had it both times. Every dish was delicious, as well as their cocktails. The service was really good; attentive, quick and personal. The overall atmosphere is very cosy and homey. I just loved it and would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for hosting us:)
Elisabet U — Google review
The atmosphere was lovely, service was impeccable, however the food did disappoint. The portions were small for the price and everything was an additional price up for soup and salad. The seafood linguine had a very small amount of salmon, not even a fork full. Could have been an off night but after spending hundreds for four of us to dine (including drinks too) we all walked away still hungry and picked up food on the way home.

Food is fantastic and nothing short of phenomenal! The atmosphere is okay, and little dated and should be updated. Exterior looks dilapidated but don't let that fool you, they focus strictly and the food they serve you. Waitress okay, filled water ect. Limited parking so plan ahead. We will definitely be back! We recommend getting a reservation.

My wife and I have been going to the Vine's almost as long as they have been open. Last night we went for supper at the VIne's. As always we were not disappointed. The presentation and quality of the food was excellent. Our server, Gabriel, was efficient and extremely polite. Thanks for the great meal and experience. We will be back .

It was not a good evening for us at Vine's, especially as we were celebrating my mother's 87th birthday - which was August 1, but I'm just getting around to writing this review. Many things we requested were not on the menu (bellini cocktail due the blender being broken, no veal marsala). The food we had was "just OK" - did not live up to Vine's reputation. Our server was very friendly. However, no one was clearing tables - we had tables with dirty dishes on them on two sides - for the entire duration for our meal. There was a large family party with kids - fine, normally no problem with that - but they let their children crawl on the floor under their tables, along with the noise they made - did not make for a pleasant evening. Fortunately, I had taken Mom out to Milestone's at MicMac Mall the night before - it was excellent, highly recommend.

This is a beautiful new gem I just had the pleasure of discovering with my gal pal who is Celiac. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable on the ingredients or asked if they didn't know! This made the experience super amazing to be able to go out and enjoy good food and feel safe! My favorite thing was that without even asking (not sure if the bread does come with meals since it was my first visit!) They brought out warm gluten free bread for us! None of our menu options were available to choose from in the ratings but highly recommend the chicken curry penne and the Cajun pasta also looked very appetizing! Everything was so yummy we even stuck around for a shared glass of sangria, which was also VERY delicious! I can't wait to come back and try more!

Today, I dined at Jack Astor's Bar & Grill Dartmouth with another couple. We enjoyed the Thai Sesame Chicken Stir Fry, which was delightful. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the rice had just the right amount of stickiness for easy chopstick use. Our friends also ordered the Holy Smoke Burger and the Chicken & Goat Cheese Wrap, both of which they thoroughly enjoyed.
We celebrated the wife's birthday here on Thursday. We've both eaten here many times before but this is my first time reviewing. She had the fish tacos, which she loves/gets every time. I had the chicken strips (tossed in mild Buffalo) and a side salad. The chicken was super fresh and moist. The hot sauce had just the right amount of heat. For dessert we had the butter tart sundae. Wow. Limited time only, I believe....go get it before it's gone. Our server, Alexa, was amazing! Super friendly and personable. We never waited long for anything. Service was excellent. We'll definitely be back !!

We made a last minute reservation via phone, it worked out well for the four of us (2 adults and 2 children). The staff were quite busy - it was around the start of the dinner rush. We weren’t in a hurry, but our server was preoccupied (I think she was seated numerous times), so our drinks and some of items were served by others before we met our server, understandably. It’s quite loud, but we don’t mind it considering we have kids. They have paper to colour on which is always a plus. I ordered the steak and blue cheese salad, could use less dress but it was delicious. My husband got the pad Thai, which was good and the kids got a pizza and the pasta from the kids menu. No complaints! We celebrated a birthday and the staff were helpful with singing and offering a dessert. Overall, the food was great all around. Hopefully in the future they can prepare better for the dinner rush, the front doors were packed with people. Parking was easy to find and they have some accessible spaces. But with the weather lately, it’s completely iced over

Nice atmosphere, and the waiter was nice. But we ordered lobster and crab appetizers, and I had no idea where the lobster and crab were. There was also very little chicken in the pasta. It was not worth the $25. We would not eat there again, too expensive for food, little ingredients are not worth it at all! Drinking was a good choice!

Great place, great menu options, great atmosphere, great meal. Nice atmospheric place that is not really visible from outside, but you will definitely like the inside style. There were a lot of people inside so I couldn't make many photos of the place unfortunately. There are several zones where you can seat: some corner places, some high tables, many regular tables, "sofas", and a wide bar counter. The prices here are normal for that level of restaurant(mid-level). We ordered a Steak & Blue salad, Hunters chicken, Frozen Bellini and a Jacob's Creek Moscato wine. Everything was very tasty. The meat in our dishes was cooked very good and had a soft but proper dense taste. We really liked our meal. And we want to thank our waiter Bryan for making our visit not only "tasty" but "joyful" too. A very positive person.

I havent been to Jack Astor's in a very long time. My now wife and I have had dinners there since we were teenagers. I had been worried to go after being diagnosed celiac 2 years ago but this meal was worth the wait! The food was delicous, the service was great and fast. We had a lovely dinner Friday night. The steak was so good. 😋

Every time I travel to Dartmouth, I always stop here. The food is always good, and although I didn’t take any drinks this time, they usually are just as good. We decided to go just before 5 pm to try to avoid the peak dinner time rush, but it didn’t pan out. I’m not sure if it was because of shift change, lack of staff or staff training, but plenty of empty tables were not yet busted. The front staff kept saying they would clean up a table and seat us, but it took 20 minutes before we were seated. We were told it was because no one was cleaning tables. Having worked in restaurants, I understand all this; it all felt disorganized. This was the first time it had happened to me at this restaurant. I also want to point out that we were a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids), so not an easy party to sit either. Once seated, service was quick, and the food was delicious, but I could tell the wait staff were short-staffed and constantly trying to catch up. Our waiter was a gem (I feel bad I forgot his name), so there was no fault on the staff at all. The atmosphere surprised me since I’ve never had an experience like this at this restaurant. Will I go again? More than likely, but I may rethink another visit if the next one is the same as this one.

The Economy Shoe Shop is a lively Canadian bistro located in downtown Halifax, NS. This retro-inspired spot is known for its pub grub and cocktails, as well as its local art displays and jazz nights. The restaurant's quirky decor includes chandeliers, a jukebox, and an indoor garden spread across several rooms. The diverse menu offers everything from Thai red curry to Maritime seafood chowder and generous portions of nachos.
Great spot, great location, especially if you have an event at the Carelton, Lighthouse Arts Center, or Scotiabank Arena. Service was quick despite it being a Friday evening. Food was pretty good. Typical pub/bar bites but definitely flavorful. The Buffalo cauliflower bites were spicy.

I loved it. The fries were crispy, perfectly seasoned. I fancy myself a Reuben connoisseur, and this one was a 9/10. The only thing I would change would be the amount of meat, it could use more. The atmosphere was nice. However, there were two ladies at the table across from us who made their exhausting political opinions known to half the restaurant. The service (Alex) was incredible, I have zero complaints there. Other than the two political pundits, this place was great. I would recommend it.

Fish tacos were awesome tasting and good presentation. However, I thought they were part of the handheld menu and would come with fries but they do not. I don't recommend the butter chicken especially the GF option, came with nachos. Service was excellent. The restaurant has some wear n tear on the furniture which lends to its rustic character.

It was a very spontaneous visit on a Friday evening. Staff was a little disorganized but so nice and thoughtful (she put coaster on our drinks while we were out for a cigarette). Food was really good and we enjoyed some drinks. It does look pretty worn dorn inside but the staff made up for it!

Hard to tell what the place is? Stayed for a minute. Describes itself as a cabaret which means that, despite offering a well advertised happy hour on various sites, they don’t accept minors without food purchase, which at 16:30-17:30. The restaurant features quirky decor with bright colors, exposed brickwork, and contemporary artwork. Despite its casual ambiance, the establishment takes pride in serving seasonal New Canadian cuisine made from local ingredients. The menu boasts an extensive selection of lunch and dinner options that change daily, ensuring fresh and flavorful dishes for patrons to enjoy.
Went here for dinner on new years eve and I was sceptical...but what a pleasant surprise! Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The first win was and I will mention this because most restaurants don't have cider in any other flavors other than apple. The second win were the mains the beef short ribs (melt in your mouth soft) could have been slightly more seasoned though and the pistachio encrusted halibut was great. Finished off with espresso creme brulee which was done perfectly (cold and hot in the right places) Overall a very pleasant experience, I would definitely recommend and go again.

Our first meal in Halifax came just up the street from our Airbnb. What a fantastic surprise: the food was excellent, the presentation excellent, one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time traveling. A must stop if you are visiting the city. Reservations maybe required.

We live here since 9 months ago ne I wanted so much to try this place. It’s done and we will come back again: the food is excellent and so tasty! The place and the service are very pleasant.

Hamburger was good, but fries were obviously frozen, had that yuck taste. Trout was great, potatoes absolutely delicious, but portion size way to small. Great wait staff, neat locale, but too loud to hear well. Could be a 4.5 star restaurant, stop it with the frozen fries, not fooling anyone.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is amazing .. I love that you can see the old front of store wall in the windowed in area we were in. Food was really good and our server was absolutely fantastic. The menu was a little on the pricey side.

Top-notch food. Some of the best I've eaten in Halifax. I had a potato leek soup, which was very good, although I could have done without the pickled mustard seeds. One of my baguette slices was toasted beyond edibility but that was quickly corrected. My entree was a short rib, which was very, very rich. It was served with hasselback potatoes covered in a delicious sauce, and a broccoli cooked with olive oil, lemon, and salt. They were the best-tasting broccoli I've ever had, and one of the highlights of the meal. My wife had halibut with "French gnocchi" which she loved, too. I had a few bites of the gnocchi and it was creamy and delicious.

Took my sister here for a birthday lunch. The place has a nice ambience and creative menu. They're vegan friendly and I got a really nice falafel bowl. I also got some triple cooked fries and they were to die for seriously. Other people in our party got the burgers and the risotto. The risotto had quite a big piece of char fish. Two main problems: parking is very, very difficult... if you have a reservation you should probably try and be early in case you need to drive around a lot to find a spot. There's a lot across the street but you have to call a number and leave a credit card, which we weren't prepared to do. Secondly the portions are a bit small, but the prices are pretty good.. I would probably get an appetizer next time.

There are a few out of the way gems that we happen upon every-so-often. This is one of them! We’re in Halifax for a wedding tomorrow, staying close by and saw this place as we walked by, twice. The food was very good, the server was excellent! But be warned...we were told that the menu changes often, though I’m sure it will just as good as what was on the menu when we ate here. The wine recommended was first class, at $75/bottle it sounded expensive, but when I looked it up on the internet, found that it retails for over $88. (They have less expensive wines on their list but this one sounded so good from the description that we had to get it). It DID NOT disappoint! A bit noisy at times, but well worth the visit.

If you're looking for a delightful culinary experience in Dartmouth, look no further than Ela! Greek Taverna Restaurant. This charming eatery offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying Mediterranean cuisine that is both fresh and flavorful. Guests rave about the tender grilled octopus and delicious lamb, complemented by homemade garlic aioli. The falafels are said to be the best around, paired perfectly with crispy cabbage and pickled onions.
This is my favorite restaurant! The food is always so flavourful and fresh! I always try something new and I'm never disappointed. I love the pita nachos on their new menu! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere has a very Greek vibe! Highly recommended!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had an incredible experience at Ela in Dartmouth Crossing! The food was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every dish tasted authentic and full of vibrant Greek flavors. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was just as impressive — friendly, attentive, and made the whole dining experience even better. If you’re looking for delicious Greek cuisine in a cozy, inviting setting, Ela is definitely a must-visit. Highly recommend!

The family enjoyed the food. Portion sizes were adequate, even for the kids menu, and the service was friendly. The dip appetizer was a huge hit (highly recommended).

The feta dip was delicious! I got the chicken skewer lunch and while it hit the spot, the tzatziki and rice left me unsatisfied due to lack of taste. I would return and try something else. Served was fantastic and atmosphere adds to the experience :)

This is my wife & I’s second time visiting Ela! The first experience I had the chicken gyro & my wife had the beef gyro GF. This visit I did the chicken club panini & she had the dolmades lunch special and both visits and meals were PERFECTION. The Greek salad you get alongside with your meal reminds me of my summer I spent in the Mediterranean and it takes you back so wonderfully. EnVie A Vegan Kitchen is a bright and contemporary cafe that showcases vegan dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant offers a diverse menu, including options like dumplings, pakoras, roasted winter salad, butter tofu chikn, roasted carrot risotto, and mushroom gnocchi. For dessert, they offer treats like peanut butter cup and NY style cheesecake. EnVie is dedicated to serving delicious plant-based vegan food and can accommodate various allergies including gluten and nuts.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. First off let's talk about the staff. Absolutely amazing, they went above and beyond. We were served by Courtney and she took all the time to talk to us about the menu and the drinks. Offered great suggestions and went above and beyond with recommending places in the city to eat and drink at. And now she goes further above and beyond by calling a local pizza shop to see if they could accommodate me being vegan. Now one step further, checks her old emails to help us get into a local speakeasy. Everything about her was perfect. Now the food. Excellent, I had the schnitzel with potatoes and it was super convincing. My girlfriend had a bowl that was delicious. We had to get an appetizer and dessert. Neither disappointed. Drinks were also very tasty, both the alcoholic and non alcoholic ones You will not regret going here, so do yourself a favour and go.

Amazing place to share a lovely meal for a special occasion, or just for a nice lunch or dinner. Loved the mushroom gnocchi and the cheesecake was a nice surprise! My only gripe is that as a tall guy, the portion sizes weren't quite enough to fill me up even after appetizers and desserts. The food was amazing though, so well worth it in any case!

Dumplings were delicious and crispy, must try for vegans. Pad Thai (rice noodles) was good overall with broccoli with just the right amount of flavors, bell peppers and peanut. Beverage Glass lemon kick is a refreshing tangy drink. Side potato wedges were yummy. Good place for vegans and expect your invoice to be around-$55-$70 for a couple. Quantity is generous for 1 person. 2 people can easily share Pad Thai if you have normal appetite.

We went in for a very late lunch/early supper and easily found a comfortable spot. I ordered a Banh Mi sandwich which was their special of the day(Not on menu). I asked the staff to replace the mushroom topping with the Tofu and they were able to make that change. It was a decent sandwich however, impossible to eat like a sub, so had to go the knife-fork route. I will say I’ve had better but this was good too. My friends(both of them actually) ordered the Mushroom Tacos and they found it a bit underwhelming. I also had ordered an ‘Old-Fashioned’ cocktail which was pretty good. I would say it is a good restaurant. Probably will have a better experience with the group next time around.

Stopped in for a late lunch while visiting Halifax. We made a reservation online, but there was plenty of seating available. However, it isn't a big dining room, so plan accordingly. We ordered the pakoras as an appetizer, and they we're served with two different types of sauces. The chilli lime burger was delicious as well and served with potato wedges. Our bill for 3 of us, including one appetizer, 3 lunches, 2 non alcoholic, and one glass of wine, was $100 before gratuities.

Amazing little kitchen! We arrived without reservation with a party of three on a Friday night and not only was the venue accommodating, the food came out quickly. Not even three minutes after placing our order did the dumpling appetizer arrive (which had six to order but were vanishing rapidly as I took a photo). The mains arrived within ten to fifteen minutes with a mostly full dining room. My dining companions, vegetarians, both raved about this being some of the best restaurant food they've had since 2019 when the transitioned away from a meat diet. Myself, I still eat meat but found all of the food easily on par or better to most restaurants we dined at in Halifax so far. The breading on the vegan wings (oyster mushrooms) was particularly tasty and I was ecstatic that the actual mushrooms remained very springy, with a great solid texture. It was a perfect bite for all six wings. The wrap chili wrap vanished quickly and the fried fake chicken sandwich was immense, completely filling. Each desert was small enough not to overstuff us and give us a sweet bite to end the meal. Would 100% visit EnVie again, shout out to our server Brittny who was quick, accommodating, checked on us frequently and had full control of the dining room despite how busy it was. Thanks for the amazing evening.

This was an excellent restaurant, and all vegan, so I could order anything off the menu! The protein power bowl was fresh and delicious, and the bean burrito was good too, though I would have liked to know ahead of time that it was spicy! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I'll definitely return here when I'm in Halifax.

A must-try for anyone in the area. I make a point of dropping in every time we visit Halifax. Their menu is expansive and full of variety. So many delicious vegan options for anyone to enjoy. My fave is the chili cheeze fries, they are LOADED with toppings. Finally got to try the King Wings and I wish we got more, they were sauced up and so flavorful. Their burgers are also stacked with toppings, worth a try but can be messy. They generally have some rotating seasonal cocktails available, I tried a spiced cider and it really hit the spot on a cold rainy day. Staff was a little pretentious but honestly, kinda comes with the territory when you go to a hipster vegan restaurant. He was nice enough to explain ingredients and give recommendations for popular dishes last time we visited.

The BG - Halifax Beer Garden is a spacious waterfront venue with a rustic atmosphere that offers comfort food made from locally sourced ingredients. It features an outdoor beer garden on Spring Garden Road and has a Good Robot brewery-affiliated outdoor space. The place is adorned with plants, chandeliers, turquoise-tiled walls, and swings, creating a picturesque setting with ample natural lighting. From brunch to dinner, they offer an extensive range of dining options.
Second time here and just as pleased as the first. The perfect patio on the waterfront. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. Perfectly sauced, lightly toasted bun, tasty slaw. Fries here are great, cooked to crispy, well salted. Pretty well rounded beer selection and lots of canned cocktail/drink options as well.

Great location of the boardwalk in Halifax. Stopped for lunch and grabbed the Georgia Peach beer from Garrison brewery. It was delicious!!!! Being pescatarian I was worried I couldn’t eat the chowder as bacon usually is in the soup…but NO BACON so ordered it with double the seafood. It was $20 for the bowl. Delicious, maybe a bit overpriced but happy to enjoy it. Hubby ordered the lobster Mac and when asking the server the quantity of lobster, she gestured and said a “large” amount. His meal was tasty, but we both were shocked with the little amount of lobster included in his meal. Not worth $35 at all. 👎 Felt taken advantage of and gave us a poor first impression of Halifax. It was our first meal on our first day. Sadly, their rating reflects this. I guess we were lead to believe we’d be eating copious amounts of seafood but sadly not here. I feel both meals weren’t anything more than what we’d get at home on the prairies, and they cost more!

Normally a great spot for beer and snacks on a beautiful day but today was not good. Although not overly busy, the line for getting drinks was long. Then my husband had to go to another bar to get the white wine with a ticket. Once there he was told that they didn’t have any white wine left as they were only open for a few more weeks…huh? He then asked for red wine for me. It came in a tiny amount and he pointed out that it was not a proper size glass. The bartender found another bottle and added to it. It was ice cold from the fridge. I went back and asked if they had anything in red that wasn’t cold. She said they keep it in the fridge since it’s an outdoor bar and that they were closing next week and it was a holiday and they didn’t have their proper order. So many weird excuses from a place that we like to frequent as haligonians who live near by. I guess we will wait until next summer to come back and see if you have more supplies. Oh and my husbands beer was flat.

Best Beer Garden Vibes in Halifax! The Beer Garden is an absolute must if you’re in Halifax. We scored an amazing seat overlooking the water, prime people-watching and sunset-viewing real estate. Even though it was packed, the service was on point and the food was chef’s kiss delicious. They were serving hotdog towers… brought out by staff dressed as hotdogs. Honestly, too cute to handle. Between that and the beer buckets plus slushie towers, the fun factor was off the charts. I was the DD for the night and still felt spoiled, plenty of water and mocktails so I could join in the cheers without the beer buzz. Highly recommend for a night out that’s equal parts tasty, lively, and laugh-filled. 🍻🌭🌊

Excellent Restaurant on the Halifax Waterfront... The service is excellent and the staff are friendly. The prices are reasonable and the views are as good as it gets. Great place to eat or hang out with friends 😁 Stop by you won't be disappointed!!! 👍👍

Specifically went here for the hot dog tower and for 65$+tax it was a bit disappointing. I would much prefer to just get a main dish. The hot dogs were tiny and while I enjoyed their flavour combos (classic, elote, Mac n cheese and another I can’t remember) but just really wish at the price point it were a little more suitable for a group of 5 or 6 people. We also got the loaded fries which change each day and man were they good. Also love that they serve propeller ginger beer which is truly my favourite non alcoholic drink to get at any restaurant that serves it. The servers here are fantastic and I don’t know how they manage in the sun and heat. They’re working harder than the marines. Overall a great experience, but I wouldn’t do it again at the price point.

Seafood restaurant
Bar
Evan's Seafood, located at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, offers a casual dining experience with locally caught seafood and classic eats like fish 'n' chips. Despite its laid-back atmosphere, the restaurant is known for serving some of the best seafood in the city. A must-try dish is their popular lobster poutine, which combines hand-cut fries with a creamy blend of local lobster and cheese.
Yes to this!! Gluten free options galore and what a hidden gem that is in such an unexpected location. We took the ferry to Dartmouth and enjoyed a table on the patio that gives you a great view of Halifax. The fish and chips are gluten-free and it was so refreshing to see such a light batter on the fish - almost looked pan-fried. So perfect and tasty. The fries were so fresh and exactly what I love in terms of crispiness and texture. Tacos were fun to try as well on our second visit and so were the GF fried pickles! Caesar salad was so tasty and also made with gluten-free croutons. It’s not a fancy place but the service is still great and you can tell they have made some adjustments to the atmosphere, patio and beer gardens.

Evan’s Seafood is my go-to place on Dartmouth waterfront. Previously I thought their lobster poutine was my favorite. But after I tried their scallop sandwich, I have reconsidered my decision. The scallops were fried with the right amount of time, still tender and juicy but definitely cooked. The salsa and coriander on top added to the delicious taste and made the taste of scallops standing out even more. Would love to bring friends back.
Fei G — Google review
It’s said to be one of the best seafood restaurants in the Halifax area, and I can see why. I visited twice during my stay. The chowder was amazing, and the seafood plate — with fried fish fillet and assorted seafood — was delicious, though the fried clams were a bit too oily. The lobster roll was also excellent. What makes it even better is the setting — you can sit outside with a beautiful view of the bay and downtown Halifax. Definitely worth a visit and great value for money!
S. R — Google review
A fantastic place for fish and chips with great value, as a visitor from Toronto! I came here with my family of 4 and we ordered the Small Family Pack ($70) which came with 10 large pieces of fried haddock and two large fries, the jambalaya ($20), and some soft drinks. The grand total was ~$120 including tax and tip. It took 15-20 minutes to make our food (they are freshly fried), and I could not believe the portion sizes! The fish here were gigantic and absolutely delicious with the tartar sauce. They are a tad under seasoned, but perhaps this is deliberate to showcase the fresh flavor of the haddock. The fries were crispy and delicious as well. The overall flavor gets a bit repetitive once you’ve had too much, but the SMALL party pack could easily feed 4-5 people. My girlfriend wanted to try the jambalaya, but I thought it was a bit average (or maybe just not for me). The most ordered items definitely seem to be the fish and chips, lobster roll, and lobster poutine! This place could definitely benefit from adding different types of sauces for the fish and chips (maybe a curry sauce like how the brits do it), but the price-performance ratio of Evan’s Seafood is incredible! Very worth it and I’d recommend you come here to give it a try.
David P — Google review
This place came high regarded, and decided to give it a try. We ordered the lobster roll which was super fresh. The bun was moist and melted in your mouth. It must be like what biting into a cloud feels like. The lobster itself was super flavourable and they do load a good amount in the bun. We ordered a side a regular fries and a side of sweet potatoes fries. Both fries were fresh and tasty. We also ordered the fish cakes which were flakey and came with a side of pickled onions and I think pickles. You order your food at a counter and they bring the food to your table. I would come here again and try other menu items. This whole meal with tap water came to $93 which I feel like is a little expensive.
Andrew L — Google review
Even as I write this, I wish I lived close enough to Evan’s to get a lobster poutine. Was in Halifax the 2nd week of October and Evan’s was recommended by locals to get a lobster roll. Had the day to myself and took the ferry transition to Dartmouth downtown and Evan’s was conveniently located at the dock. It was a weekday c. 2:30pm so there was no line-up, lots of seating and the sun was shining and glistening off the water. Instead of the roll, I opted for the lobster poutine and loved it! Crispy fries, white gravy with the right amount of thickness and ooziness, melty cheese curds (my preferred kind) and sweet big lumps of fresh lobster. It was delicious and that, paired with taking in the lovely view of boats on the water, made it a pretty perfect afternoon. Note: Service and atmosphere were fine. Ordered at the counter and it was brought out to me, but nothing special, and barstools were a bit uncomfortable which is why I rated them 4.

Got the seafood platter for 2 for $40. The platter included fried fish, shrimp, mussels, scallops and fries. A decent spot if you are looking for fried seafood. Lots of seating inside and out. Great little bar I visited on my Halifax trip! Staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and the oysters and cheese board (on happy hour!) were so good! My server Audrey (Aubrey?) was kind and professional, could easily tell the mood of people sitting at the bar and give them as much or little attention as they needed. Great vibes, great drinks, great food, great service!

Great wine bar and restaurant recommended to us by curated food tours, I had the gnocchi which were absolutely spot on, it's one of my favourite childhood dishes, there is an excellent choice of wine by the glass we had the white Rioja. It would have been 5 starts as the services as very good, the noise level was fine initially however the music was turned up twice, restaurants and bars are social places were people come to talk, music is fine it's just the level. I would go back

Went in tonight to have a glass of wine with my partner, we spent roughly $15/glass on a 5oz. glass of wine. While it was a nice spot, I wasn’t expecting to share the table and personal space with mice… when I brought it to the attention of our server, her only response is “we are aware. My husband and I went here for a birthday dinner and it was SPECTACULAR. We had the celeriac, the broccoli, snd the gnocchi and there are not enough superlatives to describe how rich and tasty they each were. And I had my first aperol spritz! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Fantastic dining experience at Field Guide! We had the 6-course tasting menu to share. Every dish was refined, seasonal, and beautifully balanced. The cocktails were excellent, and sitting at the bar made it even better: we could chat with the friendly bartender and watch the chef at work. The whole team is small but incredibly organized, and service was smooth and attentive. They even adapted the menu for my lactose intolerance, which I really appreciated. Cozy atmosphere, great food, highly recommend!

Cocktail bar
Highwayman, located on Barrington Street in Halifax, is a stylish and intimate restaurant and bar that offers Spanish-inspired tapas and cocktails. The establishment is committed to elevating the cocktail culture in Halifax while using local ingredients to create sophisticated and delicious Spanish dishes. Inspired by the iconic poem 'The Highwayman,' the restaurant's dark and moody ambiance sets the stage for an unpretentious yet refined dining experience.
We rolled into Halifax late on a Tuesday night, and Highwayman was the only place still open—and thank god for that. It’s a cozy, dimly lit spot with a great vibe for late-night drinks and tapas. The food was solid—I've had tapas in Barcelona, so I won’t say it matched that, but for Halifax? It impressed. It was our first meal in the city, and it set the bar high. What really stood out was the service. Genuinely warm, unrushed, and personal. The staff took time to walk us through the menu, share recommendations, and made us feel truly cared for—no sense of “we’re winding down,” even though we came in late. If you’re looking for a relaxed spot with great service and a strong late-night vibe, this is it. Halifax could use more places like this.

We visited The Highwayman for a double date with friends visiting from Montreal, and it was the perfect spot to catch up and enjoy a night out. Our server, Rob, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the evening. The food came out quickly and everything we tried was delicious. The mushrooms were my personal favourite—definitely a must-have for any mushroom lover. While the desserts were good, the savoury dishes were definitely the highlight of the meal. It is on the pricier side, but I felt it was well worth it for the quality, service, and experience.

I love this place. I went for drink and tapas which is their specialty. I tried martini which was good and two different tapas. One was the potato which is so delicious. The sauce is creamy and full of flavor. I also tried sourdough bread with tomato which is good but it’s something really simple and a safe option maybe. The best part is their san Sebastian or basque cheesecake which is just wow. The vibe is also really good and they give you a card with your bill which is really cool.

We visited this restaurant the day we landed in Halifax on what would be the start of a week-long trip around NS and NB. The food was SO GOOD that it dominated our conversation around the table and we couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. It could have been that we were in a haze from our flight, but I choose to believe the food was simply that good. I ordered the charred carrots as well as seared the scallops and porch belly (see photos). Others at my table ordered fresh oyster platters and a roast beef(brisket?) dish. All of it was phenomenal. Our trip had us flying out from Halifax as well, so we had hoped to book another reservation by e-mail (our party size had grown to 7) but sadly never heard back in time. Granted, we e-mailed only the day before, so perhaps nobody was checking the inbox on weekends? I've been home for several weeks now and I'm STILL thinking about Highwayman so figured its time I leave a review. If I'm ever back in Halifax I will absolutely be eating here again!

This delicious tapas restaurant is the perfect spot for a date night or group outing as long as you like to share! The server was friendly, responsive and the food came out fairly quickly and not all at once. There wasn't a single dish we disliked though some we loved. They also were very careful for my allergies. Highly recommend making a reservation and parking can be a bit of a challenge.

Came here around 4pm for happy hour and it was almost empty so it was nice having the space to ourselves. Reservations were showing as booked out around that time too but there is likely seating not listed online. Got the seafood & snack platters which was a nice way to try a little of everything, it came with half a dozen oysters too and you can mix and match different types. It’s not a large space so it probably gets full during busy periods.

We loved this place so much we came back a second time after our trip of the Maritimes. From the selection of quality cocktails to the awesome service and choice of late night bites and dessert, we were hooked. The Thirst Aid Kit was my go to cocktail and we thoroughly enjoyed their wines, basque cheesecake and the tomato bread was divine. Travis our mixologist and server added to the evening and it was a perfect way to finish off an incredible trip across the East Coast of Canada - Thanks Travis! Thanks Team!

Tried Highwayman in the evening, so I had a chance to try some things on the after 10 menu. The oysters were a great start! They had some from Nova Scotia and P.E.I. I also tried the garlic shrimp. The garlic/wine they cooked it in was a little strong with alcohol but overall a good bite. The cocktails were very tasty and fun! My 2 favourites were the one pictured with a scoop of mango sorbet and the coconut-matcha cocktail. Both packed a punch and had alot of flavour! Would recommend for a fun night out with friends or date night!

Restaurant
Bar Kismet is a cozy and unassuming restaurant located in the North End of Halifax. This family-owned establishment offers an ever-changing menu featuring fresh seafood, handmade pasta, and innovative cocktails. The restaurant has gained national recognition for its inventive dishes, such as carrots with crab and bearnaise, gorgonzola gnocchi with burnt walnut, and a popular fried smelt sandwich.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The chef’s creativity really stood out, the flavors were unexpected but worked together beautifully. The cocktails were just as impressive: creative, balanced, and fun! The atmosphere was great and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier! Definitely a standout experience!!

One of my favorite meals of all time. Everything was excellent, from the service to the drinks to the food to the atmosphere. From the moment you walk in you can tell this place is a cut above others in the city. We ordered 2 smaller plates, 2 medium, 2 pasta dishes, drinks, and dessert. It all came out to about 215 dollars, which is great value given the quality. The highlights for me were the romaine salad and the cherry tomato dish - unbelievable ingredient quality. 5/5, 10/10, best in the biz.
Mateo O — Google review
We came here for dinner for two and had a really nice overall experience. The food was fresh, well-presented, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Each dish felt balanced and thoughtfully prepared. Our favorite was the cod with chanterelles and the carrots with crab — a great mix of flavors and textures. The ahi tuna tartare was good too, though not quite as memorable as the other dishes. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the meal. The drinks were excellent — complex, well-crafted, and full of flavor. The Heat Check was fruity and refreshing, while the Coronation and Tuckamore were a bit heavier but still very enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. It’s a small, busy spot, so making a reservation is a good idea. Prices are on the higher side and portions aren’t very large, but the quality makes it worthwhile. If you’re quite hungry, it’s best to order a few dishes to share. Overall, Bar Kismet offers great dining experience — fresh food, great drinks, and warm, attentive service. We’d be happy to come back.

I visited Bar Kismet last month and had another wonderful experience. I’ve also dined here in September 2021 and 2022, always enjoying the cozy patio, a variety of creative dishes, and great conversations with the staff. This time, I sat at the bar and was once again blown away—the food, ambiance, and especially the team were exceptional. It’s clear the staff love working here, and that energy shines through in every interaction. Even though it’s a seven-hour drive from Bar Harbor, Maine, I always make it a point to come back—and I absolutely will again on my next trip in late September. Bar Kismet is hands down my favorite restaurant in Atlantic Canada, and I can’t recommend it enough!
Hillman N — Google review
Lots of greenery that created a charming lightly forested vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. From the menu the main highlight was the tonnato melt that was very flavourful, the other dishes were more average but still tasty. Menu here changes from time to time. Reservations highly recommended, slots are only open for a few weeks in advance.

Yasemin is the bomb.com and Bar Kismet is amazing! Everything we ate was so good, the Tuna Tartar lives up to the hype. So freaking yummy, the best restaurant in Halifax for a reason. If you have the opportunity to go, you gotta do it, 10/10 cant wait to come back

Awesome experience. Walked in on a Friday evening. Had a short wait for a solo seat. Was told half an hour but I just walked around the block and my seat at the bar was ready! Dylan and David and pretty much everyone else were awesome hosts. Food and rink options are amazing. Would recommend.

THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I had a very delicious birthday dinner here and the service, although slow to serve at times, it was overall friendly and welcoming. My favourite part of the restaurant was how nicely decorated it was with variety of different plants. The dim lightning created a nice, chill ambiance. I highly recommend the black cod as a main dish, the morels absorbed most of the butter that was used to cook this dish and it complimented the subtleness of the fish very well. All the seafood dishes were a hit for me and my spouse.

Located just a short drive from Downtown Halifax, King Of Donair is a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. This iconic eatery has been serving its famous donairs since 1973 and has gained legendary status in the area. The combination of spit-roasted shaved beef, tomatoes, onions, and their signature sauce makes for an unforgettable culinary experience. Even the late Anthony Bourdain was a fan of this place.
My first Donair, the iconic Halifax indulgence. I prepared myself for disappointment as this sounded like a food choice for inebriated university students.. In fact, I have been told that by inebriated university students. And I was sober as a judge on the day question. Also, my experience with the Donair outside of Halifax was not great. Fakers. But when in Rome, right? Result: I am now a believer!! This thing kicked ass in every way, as far as flavor, texture, and balance. The sweet garlic sauce, which I doubted most of all, brought it all together. Of course, it was way more food than I should’ve eaten, but I was incapable of stopping once I started. (Once you are covered in sauce what is the point in stopping?) The super-dive vibe added to the whole experience too. So I will be back again someday, next time in Halifax. Thanks, King, for a memorable 4 minutes!

I drove 1500 km to Halifax for the much storied King of Donair and was not disappointed! I give the donair of my dreams a good, solid three thumbs-up!
Gil S — Google review
Heard lots of good things about this place. And honestly it was a pretty good donair. I enjoyed the poutine way more as it had more of a savory sauce as the OG item is more of a sweet sauce. I think that’s what makes it a donair over a donor😆. I’m not really sure. Either way I was not unhappy I made the trek on my quick cruise stop. I would defenitly love to have that poutine again if was in the area!

My boyfriend brought me here as he grown up here. I tasted a Donair for the first time and I must say it was exceptional. The sauce was very great. Also, I strongly recommend this place and my boyfriend was in heaven.
Sophie C — Google review
Boyfriend has always wanted to try this place since watching Trailer park boys. While you wait for your food theirs lots of photos of famous people who have visited King or Donair. The place is super hot you sweat while ordering and waiting for your food. We ordered two Donairs no tomato or onion , extra sauce . The lady who took our order repeated it back correctly , however the younger lady helping her piled a crap tun of them on and I seen the other lady waving at her and speaking in their language. The lady who took our order then used tongs to take them off and I still ended up with two pieces of raw onion. You don’t need to ask for extra sauce because they put a lot on. Boyfriend loved the sauce i however found it a bit too sweet and it kind do threw me off . Meat was tasty and they put a lot on.
Nicole — Google review
This is a great little gem not fancy, but to Donair was delicious and loaded with meat. Highly recommend this place. It's it fancy. Take it for what it is.
Brian P — Google review
The Original is the best! I tried other east coast donairs, to compare. This is the perfect donair. Right size. Amazing taste. Not messy. Just yum!
Cristian M — Google review
Had the best donair to go tonight! Thank you! Generous with the onions, tomatoes and donair sauce yet dry as heck when I unrolled it out of the paper. I hate when they are dripping and the pita gets soaked, and this was a delivery so that says a lot. I barely even required the extra donair sauce on the side I ordered. I have to say, I work also in the food service industry and I love to supply a five star review when I review a five star order as it is very very rare these days in age. I do also love KOD and am very loyal, but not every order comes like this despite me paying for extras so I really appreciate the good efforts. Time are tough so when I order takeout it really is a treat for me. Thank you

In and out under 2 minutes. I got lucky and there was no line while I ran in to grab a couple pies for my friend and I. I had the butter chicken and it was delicious. The crust is light and flakey, and the filling was wonderful. Just a tiny bit of zip to it, but just the right amount. The chicken was tender and flavourful. Will definitely be back to grab another sometime soon!

Humble pie is awesome! Have tried a few, and always leave at least satisfied. The new Thai curry one isn’t my favorite, but was still tasty. Didn’t taste as “Thai curry” as I’d like, think they toned down the spice. The steak and cheese, minced and cheese are excellent. Donair has been hit or miss for me, usually good though. They usually sell out of the best pies before end of day, so call ahead, or get there early. 1 pie is a good amount for 1 person, but usually get 3 to split between 2 people.

Humble Pie is a genuine must try! The crust is soft and flaky, the fillings are so rich and flavorful 😍 so for we've tried the beef and bacon, the steak and cheese and the buffalo chicken - all are absolutely delicious, and I can't pick a favorite at this point because they are all so good. If there is a specific flavor you'd really like to try, definitely give them a ring when they open so they can set one aside for you to purchase - they go QUICK! Thank you so much for the pies Humble Pie Kitchen, we can't wait to see what other flavors you bring to life 🥧💗

I was recently in town to perform at the Rejigged Festival and the festival organizers got Humble Pies for the performers and staff lunch in the green room. I was totally floored by how good the pies were. I had a steak and cheese pie and a chicken pie. Both were top notch. Fantastic flavors, perfect textures, and so deeply satisfying. I hope I can come back soon, because my only regret is that I did not get to trie them all. Thanks for the most excellent comfort food!

The Brown Hound Public House is a relaxed bar that offers small snacks, hamburgers, and desserts. They also have a selection of draft beer and special deals during happy hour. If you're in Lunenburg and craving fish and chips, the South Shore Fish Shack is a popular choice. But if you're in Halifax, head over to The Brown Hound for some of the best British-style fish and chips in town.
I had visited the downtown location a few weeks back and had an amazing experience, and tonight at the Agricola location was no different. This location is so warm and cozy. With the pub booming with chatter from all the people inside. I ordered up the Burger and fries with a side of gravy. The burger was thick, and juicy and topped perfectly. I couldn’t put it down. The fries at the brown hound are next to none. Even though they may come frozen in a box, I have never, ever had them before. Steak cut, double beer battered and salted just right. Paired with a side of gravy is the way to indulge these amazing strips of potato. This may become a go to for my friend and I as she has finally found a good Beef Dip on the east coast! Her words. Thank you to the friendly and attentive staff!

This is a great little “watering hole” in the North End. Been to this location a few times. The service is always super good, even when it’s busy. Staff are knowledgeable about the taps, the drinks and the food. They also do a great job with allergies if that is something you need. I was in last Sunday, so it was medium busy, and the sever who was also the bartender was phenomenal. I had the GF chicken burger, which was pretty good. The bun did fall apart and it was messy, but that’s the GF life for you. lol It had decent flavour the salt was overpowering which is why it was ranked a 4. Ciders on tap! Which is lovely! They often offer one local and one from another location if they can. Will be back!

Nestled in a cozy space adorned with exposed-brick walls, Buta Ramen is a delightful Japanese eatery that specializes in an array of ramen dishes and snacks. Although the Dartmouth location is currently closed, the original spot in downtown Halifax continues to attract loyal patrons with its authentic offerings.
I love going here for ramen. Especially after walking around Point Pleasant and (or) the Waterfront on a cold winter's day. Very comforting and delicious. I usually always order the Tantanmen Ramen which is a good spice level for me. Delicious appetizers as well!

Oh definitely high recommendations for their nagasaki champon (seafood ramen). Went to eat on a weekday evening, not too many people. I think especially that day was a bit chilly and raining, having the bowl of seafood broth ramen was such an amazing experience! It gets busy during lunch and dinner period, so if you want a dine-in, it might best to consider going in earlier than busy period.

We ordered a Tantanmen, a Spicy Miso Ramen, and an appetizer of Ebi Fry. We found everything to be very tasty, and the portions were generous. Also, the real highlight has to be the red pickled ginger on the table —— This is my second time here. The Seafood Ramen is amazing! I highly recommend it!

We totally enjoyed the atmosphere and our food! I ordered Nagasaki Champon (spicy one) and my husband took Tonkotsu Ramen. My soup was sooo rich with flavors and had a lot of seafood! 😭💖 we will definitely come back again!
Halyna N — Google review
I had heard a lot of good things about Buta Ramen from friends, so I was really looking forward to trying it. I finally visited on May 2nd during lunchtime with a friend. The restaurant wasn’t busy, and there was one young female server working in the dining area. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and was served a bowl with fairly thick, wavy noodles. The broth was rich and flavorful, the tamago was perfectly cooked, and the chashu was thick and tasty. However, as someone who prefers the thinner noodles typical of Hakata-style ramen, I found it difficult to enjoy the combination of these thick noodles with the tonkotsu broth. While I understand Buta Ramen may be more of a fusion-style place, I was very disappointed to hear from another friend that customers used to be able to choose their noodles—because during my visit, we were not given any option at all. Additionally, the atmosphere was not very pleasant. There was someone—possibly a friend of the server or just a customer—engaging in loud small talk, which made the restaurant feel quite noisy. Despite the fact that both my friend and I left a lot of food uneaten, the staff simply asked if we were done and cleared the bowls without any interest in why we didn’t finish our meals. While there were definitely some positives, overall, the experience didn’t live up to the expectations I had based on recommendations.
박정은 — Google review
Tried Bhuta Ramen for the first time, and it did not disappoint! The baby fried octopus was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside — full of flavor and a great start to the meal. The seafood ramen was rich, comforting, and packed with depth. Every bite had a satisfying mix of textures and the broth was beautifully balanced. If you’re a seafood lover looking for bold flavors and something a little different, Bhuta Ramen is definitely worth a visit. Can’t wait to go back!

Bar Sofia is a vibrant gem nestled in the heart of the Queens Marque District, where classic elegance meets lively Latin flair. The atmosphere evokes a bohemian neighborhood filled with art galleries and late-night bars, making it an ideal spot for those seeking both culinary delights and visual inspiration.
came here by myself on a Saturday night and was able to make a last minute reservation. Every single staff member is kind and attentive to service. I felt incredibly well taken care of. I ordered a noche de tia, with the elotes and the mushroom birria tacos. 💯 food was served very quickly. My sole “complaint” is that I think glassware should be a little cleaner, but it didn’t alter my overall experience.
Eleanor B — Google review
Everything we ordered tasted very fresh and made with care. Not one of those places that just deep fries or microwaves the best that Sysco can sell. Service was quick and our guac came within a couple minutes of being ordered. We tried a couple different tacos and they were all fantastic but if you’re very hungry you will have to order a bunch of different plates ($$$) or go hit up cows for some dessert ($$) to feel full. The drinks from the bar are very quick (which we loved) but a warning that the music is kept at a very…energetic…volume and it might be hard to hear your dining companion(s).

If you love, like or want a margarita get your bottom over here! Bar sofia has one of the best margaritas Halifax has to offer, they nailed the spicy to fun ratio. Absolutely delicious! The restaurant pays homage to different latin cultures beautifully with their fusion of foods such as the bravas Brussel sprouts. We had a hard time deciding what to order as everything sounded spectacular! We only tried appies for food, they were yummy, however the toppings for most the appies we got are around the same. The atmosphere is fun and colourful, right at the heart of the new waterfront. This restaurant is in the waterfront so there is parking nearby in the big lots. You might just have to walk a little bit. Plenty of sitting inside and in their patio!

Delicious food made with quality ingredients and well plated. Spicy and unique flavours. The cocktails were excellent. The round deuce table was just a bit too small. We were seated near the door on a cold evening and felt the breeze regularly when the door was opened. Hopefully they find a solution to address this. Service was very good on an extremely busy evening. Attentive, kept things moving quickly, but we didn’t feel rushed. Would definitely recommend for an evening dining out.

The place is amazingly decorated and nice music as well, however I got a really long hair in my food. And the waitress was salty about it . When I showed it to the waitress she seems more annoyed than apologetic. She first asked me if it was there before? (For context I have a buzz cut so basically no hair, specifically not long and I was wearing a hat. ) Then she asked me- “so do you want a dessert or something?” I was like- eeeh no thanks, I’m grossed out at this point, I would like the check please.

Love this spot! Such an awesome spaces with great vibes, tucked in between buildings. Sunny and cozy with great beer and food! Shrimp roll was excellent. Perfect for an afternoon or evening hangout. Plenty of shady and sunny spots and lots of seating. A very different vibe than the downtown location, which is quite dark and was very punk/kind of odd niche music (at least when I was there).

Restaurant
Doraku is a top spot in Halifax for authentic Japanese cuisine, particularly known for its exquisite sushi. The restaurant offers more than just sushi and has a new space dedicated to finer Japanese dining. It's renowned for its delicate warm rice and quality seafood, maintaining a high standard of service and respect for ingredients. Customers praise the freshness of the fish, the quality of every dish, and recommend trying the Agedashi tofu.
Doraku is truly a gem of a sushi bar, and undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in the city. The quality of their ingredients is consistently exceptional, from the fresh fish - including the rare specials they occasionally bring in - to the perfectly seasoned and textured rice. Their sushi is unmatched by most bars in Van, TO, and even many I've been to in Japan. Even their hot dishes and desserts are just as impressive. And just as remarkable as the food is the warmth and hospitality of the people behind it. It's a place tied to some of our best dining memories.

Legit Japanese joint. From the menu to the staff and the way they treat you to the food itself, this place deserves its excellent reputation. Our servers were so pleasant and friendly at all times, the drinks were good (especially for the price) and the food was exceptional. We ordered the agedashi tofu and karaage chicken as appetizers and I think the karaage was in the top 5 I’ve ever had, including in Japan and among the many Japanese restaurants in the SF Bay Area. Seriously, it’s worth going for that alone. We also ordered some botan ebi with the fried heads, a pretty rare treat, and they were delicious. The heads were fried perfectly and were soooo good. For the main event, my companion got a roll with eel in it (meh, not my thing, but he loved it) and I got the large omakase sashimi. The selection of fish was seriously excellent and on par with what you would expect to find at higher end Japanese restaurants. It was an excellent value for the money considering the cuts of fish. The fatty tuna was absolutely amazing. I’m going back to this place ASAP.

This sushi restaurant is absolutely amazing and every piece was beautifully prepared with great attention to detail. The flavors were perfectly balanced, The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal. The staff was friendly and provided excellent service, making sure we had a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves high-quality sushi!. One top Sushi in Nova Scotia!

I kept saying to my husband, “I think this is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.” This place was bustling and busy from the second we entered till the second we left, but the staff were so kind to each person throughout it all! We had the chicken karage and some rolls. The fish was so fresh, the avocado clearly used at the perfect time and the sushi rice was my favourite part. Can’t get over how incredible it was. We will be back soon!

Enjoyed a meal there in late September and had a beautiful lunch on the patio with family. Everything was incredibly delicious. I would highly recommend making a reservation - as this is a very busy spot (for all the best reasons). Food was efficiently delivered and taste was excellent.

Best sushi in Nova Scotia. Being Japanese and have lived in the west coast of Canada, Doraku is comparable to some of the best sushi I’ve had in Nova Scotia , even that their takoyaki is the best I’ve had in the city! Very cozy vibe, everything on the menu won’t disappoint!

The Oxford Taproom is a new addition to Halifax's drinking scene, located on Quinpool road in a space that was once the iconic Oxford movie theater. The taproom has a movie theatre theme and serves popcorn, offering an extensive selection of beers and ciders from Garrison Brewing. It's known for its dog-friendly policy and locally sourced tasty food. Visitors can enjoy the warm neighborhood atmosphere, bring their own games, and even grab coffee and good food from the adjacent coffee shop.
Great bar with great inside decor ambiance and a large outdoor seating lovely decorated. The beer selection is great and local. Some snacks are available but you can bring your food from your favorite restaurant and have it here with a beer! Its awesome! And they are pet friendly ❤️ The service is perfect and I had a great time. You have to try this place!

Went for trivia gods with dad bods event. The server was great with refills. Not too in the way of the trivia. The snacks were good, the fries were hot, though, could have liked some ketchup. Popcorn very salty and delicious. Great variety of drinks. Will have to come back and try the coffees and sandwiches.

A fantastic addition to quinpool. Very long overdue to have something like this in the area. Place looks amazing with some great features and has a fantastic atmosphere. Seating is just downstairs at present but will be upstairs very shortly. Had a well stocked retail store attached too. Staff were super friendly and accommodating and there is a good selection of great tasting beer.

Enjoyed a few drinks this evening with my partner, and a friend visiting from away. The patio is the perfect location for a few pints, it's so quaint and fun. You're allowed to bring food from local places onto the patio to enjoy with your meal which is just awesome! Our server Steph was great, fast and attentive. The drink selection here is awesome, with a lot of variety. The Oxford Taproom is definitely a sweet spot I would recommend to anyone

A wonderful place to spend some quiet time enjoying a large variety of craft beer and cider. They are also partners with neighboring restaurants and you can order food and then bring it in to eat. There is a lot of natural light and decorated with local art and novelties. It’s really spacious with lots of seating on the first and second floors. I really like the merch, too.

Guests have praised the friendly staff and efficient service, making for an enjoyable experience overall.
We had a great family meal here to celebrate my parents' 44th wedding anniversary. My mom ordered a steak medium, and it was a bit too bloody for her liking, but kudos to the servers and the manager for rectifying it quickly. All around a good meal and great dining experience.

Service was fast and friendly. Quick refills without asking. Clam Chowder was too salty for my taste, I only ate 1/4 of the cup. Waitress did not notice or ask. The Fancy Beet salad was wonderful. I don't have a picture but the Nachos are A+. Toppings are all diced and the portion is huge. There is a half order options which is plenty as well. Dining room is great for Kiddos as well. We'll be back to try more menu options.

One of my kids is very picky, and they offered to make pasta with tomato sauce instead of alfredo. This was a big, unexpected, but very welcome surprise for me. The food was excellent and the service on par. Thank you!

I had a great business lunch at Moxies Dartmouth Crossing. The restaurant has a very nice, modern decor and a welcoming atmosphere. The menu offers a wide selection of options — I went for a salad, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Service was fast and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back!

It has a great atmosphere and staff. Staff are very friendly and helpful, which makes the experience nicer. The washroom was very lovely. But the beverages were too sweet, and the food was extremely oily. The kids' pizza was a big portion suitable for two kids, but of very poor quality. It is simply bread with cheese that has hardly been cooked. If you are a healthy eater, avoid this place. The business can benefit by hiring a good chef who can bring flavour to dishes without the need to make them too oily.

I've always loved Moxies, great food, great atmosphere, and exceptional service every time. I miss some of the old menu favourites, but wasn't disappointed at all.

Ordered the burger based on waitress recommendation. I wanted a hot, greasy burger. I got a dried up burger patty and a stale bun. Very disappointed. My colleague ordered a $60 steak and was also not happy. Steak was warm at best, not charred or heated as requested. Told server we were disappointed in the food.

We chose Moxie's because of the location in Dartmouth Crossing close to where we were shopping, past experience, great parking. The restaurant has a classy, dark vibe with modern features. The booth was comfortable for plus size people and we had lots of privacy. The restaurant was loud though not full, just lots of dishes clanging and dishes dropped on one occasion. Our server was brand new. She did a great job; polite, friendly, knew the menu well, checked in with us frequently but not too much, and helped me look for missing keys. The water was good for Halifax; I'm not sure if it's filtered. Our meals were quite good but definitely higher in price for quantity. The food presentation was very nice, taste was delicious and the meals sat just right with us (no stuffed bellies). I ordered the cashew chicken lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu and they were a meal on there own. My daughter ordered the mango chicken from the main dinner menu and found it small for the price. The summer menu offers lots of flavors, and we were glad we ordered the cashew dip as an appetizer or we would have still felt hungry. Overall, a very positive experience and I will go again.

Pleasant Street Diner is a family-owned establishment that offers a variety of classic diner dishes, including burgers, fried seafood, and breakfast options. The diner has garnered attention for its delectable fried seafood, with some considering it to be among the best in the Maritimes. Despite potential wait times due to its popularity, visitors find the homemade food and seafood platters well worth it.
This place is so good, it's actually ridiculous. Portions are HUGE! Highly recommend the seafood chowder, scallops, clams, fish and chips. My daughter got the omelette and it was STUFFED with vegetables and cheese! Can't wait for our next trip to Nova Scotia so we can go back again (and again)!
Angela P — Google review
The Pleasant Street Diner was fantastic! While visiting Halifax, we were on the hunt for the best fish and chips—not from a Michelin-starred chef or a hotel restaurant trying to fake the seafood vibe, but the real deal locals actually love. Pleasant Street Diner delivered. You can taste the love in the food. The fish was light, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Our meals arrived in under 15 minutes. This spot is fast, friendly, and full of flavour. I highly recommend it—you honestly can’t go wrong. And whatever you do, save room for dessert. Or don’t… and order it anyway. We were full and still tried the dessert, and it was absolutely worth it—made fresh daily. I’m still looking for the six-star button.

This diner has great staff, amazing food and reasonably priced. Portions are large but take home what you don't finish. I had the fish and chips and it was fresh and the batter was not thick or greasy. Great place for that home cooked meal.

This was our restaurant of choice in Dartmouth for seafood. Earlier this week we visited. We didn’t realize how much the prices had gone up. Clams & Haddock tips are now $28.50, Clams & Scallops the same. I feel that this is a bit pricy compared to other restaurants we visit in Halifax/Dartmouth area. Although I enjoy their food we will give 2nd thought about going back.

We were part of a group of 40 seniors on a bus tour going to Canada. The wait staff were customer-friendly and very helpful. The food took a while to come but was very tasty. My wife’s preselected salad entree never did come so she opted for something else that was available. The atmosphere was busy but still inviting. It was a decent dining experience but I’m not sure if I would go back based solely on amount the time it took for our meals to come.

The food was alright. There was some mishaps with the Pitmaster BBQ plate, when we received it, it was cold. So they remade it, and something happened again. So they remade it again. Eventually we got it to go. Jennifer the team manager was amazing. She ended up taking off the Pitmaster BBQ plate, AND the two appetizers we ordered, which was super nice. We were thankful for the one waitress we had and the team manager.
Brianna B — Google review
The steak (12oz striploin) was good, the shrimp appetizer was good. the newly created triple berry tart was quite excellent. The tart was surprisingly big and had more berries than I anticipated. Generous portion. The server who took the order and who brought the food to the table was very good. But the one who took the payment (different from the server who took the order and brought the food in) called me "sir", and when pressed, she gave an excuse and actually meant "sure", taking advantage of my non-native English speaker status – except that I have lived in North America long enough to understand everything perfectly. While a manager e-mailed me with an apology, it does not change the fact that something that should not have happened in the first place happened. While I cannot attest for the other location (the one in Chain Lake Drive, have never visited), for this location, if you are a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, you may end up leaving with an emotional scar. It will be worse if you are not white and/or if you speak English with accents. No matter how much the establishment takes responsibility, I will not be visiting this particular restaurant any longer. I was only told that there will be consequences for the offender – but without knowing what the consequences are, I do have to risk being treated like a second-class customer. That risk, I am not willing to take.

Always an amazing place to eat. Other chain's prices have gone up, and their quality has gone down. Montana's prices are great and the food quality has remained top notch! Staff at this location are attentive and personable. Very accommodating for bringing my toddler with me. Ribs are amazing and the Apple Butter Sauce is absolutely mouth watering. Food is always hot and fresh! When we are looking for a meal, we often head to the Dartmouth Crossing area, and after looking around, we usually end up here.

The restaurant has received positive user feedback and has been rated as one of the best food trucks in Halifax.
This is my go-to spot when I’m craving a great, fast takeout burger. They have a nice variety, and I love how many options there are to customize and make your burger unique. My personal favourite is the bacon cheeseburger, and my partner and I usually split a poutine -always a hit! A fantastic spot if you’re looking for a quick, delicious burger.

Don’t bother trying to make an order through uber eats. Every single day they are always shutting their uber off at weird times throughout the day and then open it up for maybe a half hour to an hour before they shut it down again 2 hours before close. Even tried doing a scheduled order once an hour before close and they cancelled it! They clearly have enough business already that they don’t need mine!

Lots of options, lots of taste! I tried this place on a whim during my vacation, and I loved it. The burgers here beat the ones that many chain restaurants have. You might have to wait a while during busy times, but it's still worth it.

Great service and excellent pub fare. We had the fish & chips and Thai chicken stir fry. My only suggestion would be for them to add cashews to the stir fry as an option. That would take it to the next level. Location is also great. Parking is around the corner - less than 200m to walk.

DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE FOR SPECIAL OCCASSION We recently booked a table at Seamus David’s for a party of 16 to celebrate our parents’ 45th wedding anniversary. What was meant to be a meaningful family dinner turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find our party split between two separate tables in the middle of the restaurant — a setup we were not informed of when we made the reservation. While I admit I didn’t explicitly ask about seating arrangements, I expected a restaurant taking a booking for 16 to clarify whether we’d be together. When we expressed our concern, our server kindly said she’d speak with the manager. I saw the manager shake her head “no” before the server finished explaining the situation to her. It was clear from the start that there was no intent to help. I approached the manager myself, who finally came over when she noticed me watching. Despite there being a completely empty room that could have accommodated us, she firmly said we couldn’t move any tables. When I expressed disappointment and surprise about the lack of communication around the split seating, she simply replied, “Well, I didn’t take your reservation,” and didn’t even offer a hollow apology. She showed no empathy or interest in improving the situation — a clear sign she wasn’t there to support guests. As someone who runs a business three times this size, I’d strongly suggest the owners invest in training their management team in basic customer service — or at least how to pretend to care. Unfortunately, the poor experience didn’t end there. The food came out in pairs, staggered to the point that some of us were finishing while others hadn’t even been served. My father didn’t receive his meal until my mother was done eating. To make matters worse, his sandwich was charred on one side and placed with the burnt side down — perhaps hoping it would go unnoticed. He could still taste the bitterness of it on the way home. Many dishes were either cold or overcooked, and it was clear the kitchen was overwhelmed and disorganized. To be fair, our server was wonderful and handled a tough situation with grace and kindness. She was the only positive part of the night and deserves credit. Unfortunately, the issues we faced — from poor communication and indifferent management to kitchen chaos — far outweighed her efforts. I would not recommend Seamus David’s for any meaningful event. This felt less like a welcoming restaurant and more like a watering hole with subpar pub food. It’s not the place to make memories — it’s the place that makes you wish you’d gone somewhere else.

We decided to go to Seamus Irish pub to celebrate my moms birthday. I had heard from a few people that they had enjoyed it here but my experience wasn't as great. I started with a warm artichoke dip that was cold in the middle... but still tasted good none the less. We were a table of 6 and two of us ordered the exact same thing, steak sandwich, medium rare. Mine came charred and flavourless, resembling a piece of leather. I attempted to eat it as I was hungry, but I just couldn't. It was awful. The other steak sandwich at the table wasn't as bad as mine, having a touch of flavour and not so over cooked. I asked to return my sandwich as it just wasn't eatable. Kitchen was now closed so I ended up keeping my side potato as I would have nothing to eat for dinner without it but should have just let it go as well, as it tasted like it was sitting out for hours. Dry and crumbly. The sandwich was removed from my bill and I was only charged for my potato. My moms food was served cold. Our Service wasn't the greatest as multiple times we had to seek out water and drink refills by leaving the table to find someone. Only 3 out of 6 of us liked the food during this visit. The experience here was so disappointing that we made new plans to celebrate my moms birthday days later at another restaurant.

This was probably one of the worse experiences I have had at a restaurant within the Dartmouth/ Halifax area. First, the food for four adults was way underpar. No one enjoyed their meal. There was no flavour. I didn't eat my meal and neither did my friend. Second, they forgot chicken on my husband's nachos, and the waitress proceeded to take the tray of nachos back to the kitchen, then returned with the same nachos, and a handful of diced chicken thrown on top. Kitchen violation! Third, Don't try their sangria. There was no wine in it, it was like a mixed drink with frozen fruit in it. Tasteless and expensive. FORTH, the staff were very slow and had to waved over multiple times. We will never return and hope this review helps others save money. Go elsewhere.

We loved the food! My husband and I went for a quick bite before our movie and we were seated, served and settled up just in time. We ordered half salads and they did not disappoint, our server made a great recommendation. We’ll be back to try some bigger bites. The decor could be updated to match the quality they’re delivering. It’s definitely a comfortable and cozy space. There was one staff member I could overhear make a complaint to a server about seating choices, we chose the only window seating over the back.

Great service and nice ambiance but the food was not great. Ordered the mushroom panini which was described as roast veggies and feta what I got was mushrooms with a tomato and some tiny tiny scrapes of green pepper and red onion. They did bring out some Zucchini when I asked but it was not roasted and very oily. When I asked about the pepper she said the kitchen said they were already there?

Strongly suggest never going here! My friend and I ordered takeout for two cheese tortellini’s. They told us it would be ready in 15 minutes. However, we arrived after 15 minutes and had to wait for an additional 20 minutes. Just for a waitress to come out and tell as that they were actually out of tortellini (we had already paid and waited 25 minutes at this point). We then asked for a refund and neither of the waitresses knew how to refund us to the machine. She had to call the manager to figure out how to properly refund us. She asked us if we wanted anything else instead so I said I would try the carbonara. However, they said they would not discount my new meal at ALL for the inconvenience. We left and safe to say we will never return! Don’t waste your time here.

Drove 40 minutes for our favorite Italian dinner on a nice Sunday. Nope, not happening! Turned away at the door because they had just accepted a large phone order and the kitchen was tied up for the next hour. Not impressed... don't accept a last minute phone order if it puts your kitchen in such a kerfuffle that you're turning away longtime customers.

Trendz Gastro Pub is a delightful dining spot that truly shines when it comes to both food and service. After a long day, guests at the Dartmouth Best Western found themselves drawn to this pub for its fair prices and appealing menu options. The friendly staff, particularly one gentleman who took orders with warmth and professionalism, made the experience even more enjoyable. In just 20 minutes, they served up delicious meals for four, all cooked and seasoned to perfection—yes, even the fries were exceptional!
Best tossed chicken fingers I’ve ever eaten in my life and I eat ALOT of chicken strips. Stopped in for wing night the following week after eating the strips. This place is worth the visit. Even if you aren’t staying at the hotel. 5 stars for service and food. Keep up the good work!

Ordered the seafood chowder and fish tacos and Caesar salad. Chowder was nice and hot & garlic bread nice touch. Very hearty Fish tacos really nice the red cabbage slaw tangy and the battered fish good. Caesar salad great lots of cheese and real bacon. Took one taco to go. Lots of food.

Had this place twice during our stay. Really good food. Had little bit of everything there. The wings we're so delicious. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was good as well the poutine was average but also good. Had there garlic fingers the garlic fingers were good. But the wings are to die for one of the best place for wings I when too. Great size great sauce 👌. They also put on a great breakfast in the morning for guests lots to choose from really enjoyed eating here. Everyone was nice.

The onion rings were absolutely delicious and a very big order, the fish and chips were disappointing. (I order fish and chips at previous visits and they were good but today they were below average), chips were allot of little crunchy pieces with a few good ones on top. The Pan Fried Haddock was awful, dry, over cooked, bland. It was like the Pan Fried Haddock was over baked in an oven with nothing on it. The waiter was friendly and asked us if we liked the food. I told him I didn’t like the Pan Fried Haddock and that I never saw pan fried haddock like this. This visit the food was disappointing.

I am trying to give you an idea of the vibe, but there is none. Maybe community hall would be the best example. Or a place on the far end terminal of an airport where lost souls wander, lost in time between flights. The food? The pan fried haddock was so bland it tasted like a random bass you cook while fishing alone in the woods and you have no tools. The side? Frozen vegetables sparkled with garlic powder. Anyway, maybe that is the vibe? A random restaurant in a hotel lobby. It was not bad, but it was not good. It’s like nothing. A waiting room. A void. Let me say though, the staff was nice. The beer was cold and crisp.

As guests staying at the Dartmouth Best Western, we arrived back to the hotel after a long day and wanted a quick supper. We decided to give Trendz a try since their prices were fair and food options looked good. I can't remember the name of the gentleman who took my order but he was exceptionally friendly and professional. Food for 4 people was ready in 20 minutes. Everything was delicious and cooked /seasoned to perfection. Even the fries were above average! Keep doing what you're doing guys!

Abby was an absolutely fantastic server! From the moment we sat down, she was attentive, friendly and made us feel so welcome. She knew the menu inside & out and offered amazing recommendations. We'll definitely be back and hope to be served by her again

I had such a wonderful experience at thanks to the amazing service from Biken. He were warm, attentive, and made sure everything about my visit was perfect. His professionalism and friendly attitude really stood out and made the meal even more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, not just for the food, but for the excellent staff who go above and beyond.
