The Waffle House is a popular eatery located in St Albans, housed in a charming 16th-century watermill with picturesque views of the nearby stream and River Ver. This renowned establishment has been serving up delectable waffles and desserts since the late 1970s, offering an array of sweet and savory options made with organic wholewheat, white, or spelt flours that are stoneground just a few miles away.
Excellent waffles the butter chicken pieces were simply amazing! I also had the banana flapjack waffle which was amazing too. Highly recommend booking in advance as this place is often packed! The coffee was also great, the espresso was prepared very well indeed!

Food was delicious, we had 3 sweet waffles which we thoroughly enjoyed. One member of our party cannot eat gluten so it was great to see that gluten free waffles were available. Service was good and I absolutely love the fact that the building itself is an old water mill. You can still see the inner workings of the water mill inside in a little museum area. My only complaint is the booking system and the queue. I tried to come in the day several times on weekends, could not get parked and found there was a massive queue. There was no option to pre-book a table which seemed absolutely nuts to me, especially when some people are elderly or disabled and cannot stand or walk for long periods of time. Not at all inclusive from this point of view! I did enquire whether it would be possible to pre-book and was told no. I can therefore only assume that for some reason the owners like the massive queue as it could very easily be resolved by introducing either an online or telephone booking system. In the end to avoid the queue I came at 11am on a weekday. However, the difficulty in getting a table without queuing will make it practically difficult for me to come back again in the near future given I work full time Monday-Friday. I'd love to recommend to friends and relatives but don't feel I can on account of the queuing and lack of booking system.

It’s been many years of visiting The Waffle House in St Albans and only this weekend I arrived early enough to catch their breakfast menu, and how amazing was it! The food was fresh and flavourful as always. There tends to be a wait to sit on weekends but I particularly believe they are worth the wait. We went for waffles, coffees and juices.
Bianca T — Google review
Great location with a stream literally going through the middle of the outdoor seating area...get on the stream side not the car park! Tasty quick service, although not sure I am the biggest fan of a waffle Vs simple toast but is good for the sweet and savoury options. Good selection of smoothies. No bookings just turn up and roll with it. Good post parkrun brunch venue for
S C — Google review
We visited this place first in 2016 and loved it to bits. We revisited in 2025 and were still as impressed as we were the first time round. Whilst all offerings we've tried so far have been excellent, their signature garlic butter waffle is a lesson in simplicity. Full marks.

Went on Sunday 2nd Nov. Food arrived within 10 minutes and was lovely. A massive plateful and was really good. The waitress was lovely and had been there since 8.30am. She looked tired but was efficient and pleasant with a lovely smile. Will definitely be going again.

Lovely spot on the river for a spot of breakfast or lunch. Bit of an institution in St Albans and very busy as a result. Be sure to check out specials ahead of time (especially if you’re vegetarian) as although the basic menu has a decent range of options—it is pretty basic. The whipped goats cheese and heritage beetroot (special) was honestly next level though.. I could go there every week just for that.

What a beautiful place with great views. They cater really well to intolerances and I was able to have vegan waffles and milkshake which was amazing. The staff were really accommodating and friendly.

Pub
The Prae Wood Arms is a charming British pub and restaurant located in an 1838 villa on the Gorhambury Estate in St Albans. Originally built as a cottage retreat, it has been transformed into an elegant dining destination by Brunning & Price. The pub offers seasonal British fare and features inviting dining areas with views of the expansive lawn and the picturesque Gorhambury Estate.
Amazing place, a bit of a hidden gem. The place is really spacious inside, great traditional English decor and atmosphere, it has a maze of different size rooms to accomodate any party. Food is really good, prices reasonable, great staff, bar area. Big car park but can get full as the place can be busy any evening, better book especially if there are a few in your party. Will be back.
Pawel M — Google review
What a lovely hidden gem!! Loved the grand decor and ambience. The service is excellent. We had a cosy room to ourselves Every table is set so beautifully. There is large outdoor seating area so we will definitely be back when it is warmer. Good food but we would be lying if we didn't mention our disappointment with the pan seared fish. We ordered 4 and all found it dry and overcooked. Hopefully it was a one off. We will be back!!!
Sandeep A — Google review
Good evening. We came in with no booking There was no issue, we got seated quite easy on a table outside on the terrace. We asked to be seated on another table, we got told is booked(2h after no one was seated at that table). We ordered some starters( scallops and some green olives), they were nice (the scallops) Drinks we had to order from the bar, unfortunately they don't make too many cocktails, even though they have a massive bar. I got an expresso martini, which was made from a premade bottle( been told they don't have the means to do a fresh one) Mains came after 1:30 minutes, and to be fair we were disappointed. Some of the food on the table was hot( chips, beans, gravy, lamb) some were cold( beef, duck fat roast potatoes) The lamb was great but the beef was a total let down. Burger was not great. The atmosphere wasn't ideal We asked for an ashtray as one of us was smoking, we were brought a half full ashtray( which to me seems not so nice) We left our table and the table we wanted to sit at initially, still wasn't "booked". Went to use the men's toilet, and it wasn't really what I would expect. (It was more like a nightclub toilet) picture to prove it Unfortunately we won't return to this gorgeous decorated pub/house. Inside its beautifully decorated, but the service is a total let down.

Lovely place. Food was lovely very quick getting things out nice and attentive staff. Only thing I would have liked was to have a few cocktails on the drinks menu our group found the drinks a bit limited.
Clare M — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit. We came on a Monday lunchtime without a booking and although they were busy they were able to accommodate us. There are many large grand rooms with many tables and the extensive garden had a lot of tables with umbrellas too . We thought the food was very good. Everything was presented well and was tasty. Tlhe service was very friendly but a little bit slow due to them being so busy. We would certainly visit here again.

Very nice Sunday roast. Big portions. Great service. Well oiled machine. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free.
Assaf F — Google review
it was my first time, I live in the area for almost 20 years and I haven't been here and I regret it. Beautiful and clean, lots of space, large garden, additional bar outside, huge parking lot. Next time I have to eat something.
Adam O — Google review
Lovely venue. Waited half an hour for our starter which i have to say was very good. Waited another 40 minutes for our mains. I ordered the roast beef. Average at best. Cremated Yorkshire pudding. My wife ordered a seared salmon that was so over cooked she couldn't eat it. The staff are lovely and polite . I will not be returning.

Located near St Albans Cathedral and with other branches in Berkhamsted, Harpenden, Hertford, and Hitchin, it prides itself on sourcing produce from local UK farms. The menu features clean and colorful dishes like seasonal salad leaves with local Wobbly Bottom goats cheese and plaice with North Sea brown shrimps.
We had celebrated a belated valentine here with perfect choice. Wednesday have Jazz with piano was very relaxing. Food was very fresh and quality. If you are fish people very recommend, fish very fresh. Really impressed. Staff was very nice and friendly. Everything smooth as expected and very happy in the romantic time.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Lussmanns! We were drawn in by their strong sustainability ethos, and they definitely delivered — both in values and in flavour. We ordered fish dishes, which were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, and we especially want to mention Ema, who was warm, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. A great place to enjoy responsibly sourced food without compromising on quality or service. Highly recommended!
Adele M — Google review
Lussmans Hitchin was fantastic! I attended with a large party of 8 for a celebration; from the reservations team (via email) to the waitresses and waiters, I could not fault the excellent service. They were particularly attentive which was especially impressive given we were a large party, also notably friendly and welcoming. The food was lovely - not overly fancy, just real, hearty, good food. So tasty and a great variety of options! 10/10 experience for both food and service!

Lussmanns is an hidden gem. I really enjoyed my starter, and the main course was good. The place itself was perfect cozy yet modern, with a welcoming atmosphere. A wonderful dining experience overall.
Cindy S — Google review
Really pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Chicken schnitzel was really juicy - all the plates were good. It is like going back in time in terms of decor and service, in a good way! The only criticism is that it was super quiet which does affect the ambience but otherwise will be happy to go back.
Senita R — Google review
We booked dinner, returning after leaving St Albans some six years ago. The food was excellent, fresh, well presented with warm plates. A few issues with service however. The white wine ordered was not to temperature, cool rather than chilled. No sooner had the first course been cleared, and we were presented with the main course (there was no break). We ordered two ports which arrived a good ten minutes after cheese was served. The waitress was polite but flighty, and seemed to be preoccupied with polishing glasses rather than being attentive. Overall, a somewhat disappointing dining experience with no inter action with the 'manager' in a rather dull restaurant, which was very quiet for a Friday night. We paid the service charge reluctantly, but under the old tipping system I would have refused. The bill came to £200 plus , which did not represent good value for money. Sorry Andrei, but I hope the feedback helps.

A lovely Restaurant occupying very nice premises bright & airy with quality furniture and modern fit out enjoying an open plan kitchen with Chefs on display. Friendly greeting and an ongoing prompt and pleasurable service. The menu is very interesting not over crowded with choice. We went for the hake and trout ala-cart, both beautifully presented with tasty flavours and perfect texture. The food was top level dinning out. Again a lovely restaurant reasonably priced and is my high recommendation.

Very smart and stylish restaurant. Excellent quality food and well presented. The staff were attentive and checked on allergies and dietary needs. Bright and smart surroundings.

With three AA Rosettes and recognition from Michelin, Thompson offers an impressive dining experience.
Just had an outstanding meal at Thompson, every course was a taste sensation and beautifully presented, staff were friendly and knowledgeable, we will definitely be going back
Kerri R — Google review
My wife booked us in to this restaurant a couple of Fridays ago for my birthday. Everybody had told us how good it was and we must go, so we had big expectations. Firstly, the food was good, but you would expect it to be at £119 for a 5 course tasting menu. Cocktails you were looking at £17-20, London prices if not higher than some places. The restaurant itself is quite dated and almost like going into a cosy pub environment, which again there is nothing wrong with that but it didn’t really fit with the premium experience we were expecting. I ordered a whiskey sour to start at £17 and what arrived after nearly 25 minutes did not resemble a whiskey sour at all. I politely took it back to the bar to say it wasn’t a proper whiskey sour as detailed on the menu with the aim of just getting it removed from the bill (I had only had a couple of sips). The waiter snatched the drink out of my hand and threw it in the sink aggressively saying ‘I’ll make you another one shall I?’. There was no conversation or apology just aggression. I removed myself from the situation and went to sit back down with my wife because I didn’t want to ruin the evening. The other staff were reasonable but proceeded to bring the issue up, not apologising but just offering us free items which was not the point and there was no apology from the member of staff who had been rude which would have been welcomed. Said member of staff proceeded to stare me out for the rest of the evening and made the experience quite uncomfortable and we did not feel welcome after that point. Whatever the staff members view on the quality of the drink, the way to deal with it was not to snatch it and launch it into the sink. All round, the bill came to the region of £350. They then get the bill wrong and we ended up paying circa £20 more than we should have which my wife had to battle with them to get back. When you are paying this kind of price for a meal, we would expect better. Nearby Hazel’s smashes it out of the water. The service is much better and in our personal opinion the food was better. Disappointing experience overall and we won’t be heading back, which is a shame because it had the potential to be really good. (Pictures: Whiskey sour I was served vs a quick google of what one should look like).

On Saturday we enjoyed an amazing tasting menu lunch at Thompson’s in St Albans. The food from chef Phil Thompson and his team was fabulous and we were well looked after by our superb waitress Nicole. It had been a few years since our last visit but this more than made up for it. The restaurant is located at the top of Hatfield Road at the end of the high street. We arrived to a friendly welcome from Nicole before she escorted us to our table. We ordered a drink while we looked at the menu. Here you had the choice of A la Carte or a selection of tasting menu’s (ie the 5 , 7 or 9 course with an addition of a special dish from the chef. We opted for the seven course plus the chef’s choice dish. The afternoon started with a couple of delicious snacks that came along with the sourdough bread and butter. We then moved onto our first course of Heirloom Tomatoes which brought a delightful freshness to your palate. This was followed by the Maitake Mushroom , the Birds Liver Parfait and the chef’s choice which was a heavenly Squid ink Tortellini. We followed this with the Roast Noisette of Cod before moving onto our first to the main course where you had an option of either the Lamb or the Tamworth Pork so we ordered one of each and the were both fantastic. Our palate was the cleansed with a Pineapple Sorbet before finishing with a delicious White Chocolate Parfait dessert. While enjoying a coffee and petit fours we had a nice chat with Phil where we could personally thank him and his team for a fabulous afternoon. We also payed credit to Nicole who was a delight all afternoon and a credit to the industry. We then thanked the team as we headed back home to Essex and hope we would see them all again soon.

This was our first time visiting this amazing restaurant in St Alburns! We were served by Nick and he gave us the best service ever, even put my jacket around my shoulders for me! Personal touch and massive attention to detail! The food was exquisite!! Huge commitment to the chefs the gnocchi I had - was the BEST I have ever had - and I used to be a chef myself. We can’t wait to come back here and experience the tasting menu! We had cheese board as pudding and it was off the dial. We LOVED everything about our first visit here ! Well done all.
Girl U — Google review
The food we had was exceptional and so was the wine. Works of art with excellent attention to detail. Ingredients top quality. Great attentive service but not rushed. So glad we have this gem of a place on our doorstep. Highly recommend.
Katie C — Google review
Firstly the not so good points, I took a friend for a birthday meal, we sat at the bar and we still had to pick from the menu even for the 9 course tasting menu. We were presented with a menu each which had prices for the meals, a little embarrassing. The lighting in the main room was bright and harsh, the waitress did try to dim them and for a bit it was a better atmosphere but they started to flicker so back to bright. And the pasta on the tortellini was thick an a bit gloopy but the taste was fantastic. Now for the positives. Every other course of the 11 courses we had, the 9 courses plus the chefs choice and cheese were just delightful, my favourites being the mushrooms and the birds liver pate. The staff...attentive, polite, knowledgeable on what they were serving and just absolutely lovely. The wine we chose was out of stock, however the alternative suggestion was very drinkable. Crockery beautiful. We just had a wonderful time and my guest felt very special. Thanks guys.

Going to Thompson is a full experience and not just a basic dinner with some banality courses that don't say anything to your night. It's a full experience where the wine and food blend together in such a manner that couldn't be anything else that a good night. The chef deserves a full compliment, and the friendly team will take care of you in such a manner that you'll feel important fr9m the first step in the restaurant. Thank you so much for a lovely evening! We will come back with the first occasion!

Brunch restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
HATCH is a casual cafe known for its waffles, buns, burgers, and hot drinks. It first opened in 2013 as a small coffee and sandwich spot in the Maltings Shopping Centre before expanding to George Street and eventually settling in Holywell Hill. Over the years, it has evolved from a coffee-focused establishment to offering full brunch services and even hosting burger nights. The place is popular for its diverse menu that includes options for vegans.
I visited Hatch for the first time after hearing so many positive reviews, and it did not disappoint! The food, atmosphere, and customer service were all outstanding. The place was lively and family-friendly, with a staff that was attentive, polite, and welcoming. It's the perfect spot for a delicious brunch, and we left feeling completely satisfied. Even though it's a bit of a drive from where we live, I'd definitely return. St Albans town centre is also charming and vibrant. Highly recommend it – 100%! Thank you, Hatch!

Popped in here today after a recommendation and absolutely loved it! Food was creative and innovative, very tasty and warm! The ceasar salad was 10/10 highlight and the buffalo chicken burger was lush. Staff were the perfect level of attentive and helpful, very impressed. Only 4 stars for atmosphere as it was a little too loud in there for a conversation, but was a big building so as expected and the loos smelt a bit like pee pee! Can’t wait to return (for the food, not the pee pee loos) 😂✌🏼

I visited Thursday with a friend and sat outside in the lovely sunshine. The server, Jess, was also lovely and attentive. She had a radiant smile which mirrored the sun! I had a flat white and a tasty butter croissant which Jess suggested to warm up and enhanced the taste. I really enjoyed it. A delightful visit.

Lovely brunch spot! The cafe was extremely busy and fantastically managed, We were seated and served quickly. The food was brilliant also, eggs were runny, high quality ingredients and everything is priced reasonably. A slight mix up with our order but the staff were very helpful and got the correct dish to us within a couple of minutes. Even gave us a couple of brownies for free because of the mix up, which we are very appreciative of. Overall a great lunch spot and I’d highly recommend visiting:)

A buzzing, busy place, with a bit of a wait on the Saturday we went, but the staff were very helpful and fair with the tables. Four of us had a lovely table outside. I had an English breakfast and a mocha, both good. Really helpful and kind people.

Pub

Taco restaurant
The Boot, located in Sarratt village, is a rustic pub with outdoor seating that offers a variety of real ale, craft beers, and homemade food. This historic establishment dating back to 1420 boasts timber frames and low ceilings, creating a cozy atmosphere for patrons. The pub has received accolades for its excellent food and service, including Sunday roasts available every week. Additionally, it hosts open-mic nights and has become popular among walking groups in the area.
For Cinco de mayo, I searched the three counties for a Mexican restaurant. This was one of the few results. The trip was well worth it. Flavours are very unique and intense, reminiscent of carnival street food. Service was very fast and friendly. Some glitches with requests, but easily resolved Highly recommend booking - tables were all full most of the time. The bar itself is still operational, but very full - despite which, bar service remained very prompt. I would encourage everybody to try this - it feels very authentic. Music was rock/soft metal, so not thematic but suitable for the venue. The Boot has always been a hub for town nightlife, so it is great to see it gaining a new dimension.

We visited The Boot in St Albans yesterday for a few drinks, following a recommendation from the locals. As soon as you step in, you’re welcomed by its classic, medieval pub atmosphere, and it’s clear this is a favorite spot for locals. Prices are very reasonable, and the crowd spans all ages, adding to the pub’s inviting vibe. Everyone we met was polite and friendly, making us feel right at home. The pub is also conveniently located right in front of the famous Clock Tower, making it easy to find. A great spot to soak in the local charm!

Really enjoyed the food. 6 tacos and a side each, plus drinks ended up being over £100 but it was worth it to see what the hype was about. Would go again

A fantastic pub with the best Tacos I’ve ever eaten! The staff are friendly and cannot help enough, service is prompt. And if you like people watching, then this is the place for you. Make sure you try all the bottles of sauces that are put on the table 😁

Well where do I start . . . Fred the owner is a top guy, so helpful & accommodating. Food was absolutely phenomenal . . . Service out of this world . . . Attention to detail - flawless . . . These guys go above & beyond & I will definitely be back again. The atmosphere here was like sitting in a restaurant in Cyprus 🇨🇾 . If you’re in the area - it’s a must 10/10 from me all day long ! The owner Fred also offered me his personal car parking spot next to the entrance of his restaurant - that’s what I call going above & beyond ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place has long been my fave spot for dining in St Albans, and they really came up trumps on Saturday night when we had friends in town, one of whom has coeliac disease. The service and food were brilliant as usual, and best of all our friend could relax and enjoy a massive range of menu options with none of the usual worry. Can highly recommend.

Always a 5* experience visiting Bar Meze. I've been here multiple times and each time the service from the owner has been superb, with great recommendations and warm friendly atmosphere. And the food!!!!! I have got the set menu each time, with a few extras (the taramasalata is too good for just one portion and the calamari is gorgeous) and it has always been delicious. Plus I have left feeling super full - which is rare for me. Thank you Bar Meze!

Food average. Moussaka obviously heated in microwave in a bowl, weird. . Service very quick, too quick, staff leaning over my plate to get to the one next to me, almost in my food! Never been in and out of a restaurant so quickly. Tables need replacing, reminds me of 1980's school desks. Could do with a refurbishment, stairs are awful. Toilets cold and very smelly.

Great restaurant lovely genuinely warm welcome from the owner. Quality ingredients clearly cooked with love and pride. I think this will definitely be a regular restaurant for my lunch meetings. Also really easy to order #healthyyum and I love the flavours from the charcoal grill, makes me remember what summer is like.

Tremendous restaurant with great food and lovely service. Ordered loads of cold and hot meze dishes, a few mains and salads and everything was delicious. Our table of seven was very well looked after, from a lovely greeting at the door to quick service and regular checks to see if we wanted anything else. Our large meal with plenty of beers, two bottles of wine and coffees came to just over £40 each. Great for vegetarians too. Excellent stuff all round and would definitely recommend a visit.

I live in London and chose to visit St Albans, and since it’s my birthday I decided to have lunch at The Ivy – and I’m so glad I did, EXCEPTIONAL 😍 I’m so happy that absolutely everything was perfect: the service was impeccable and wonderful, the staff were always smiling, playing with my 10-month-old baby, and always so attentive. And the food? OH MY GOD, amazing! Everything I had was beautifully presented and delicious. I’m really happy that The Ivy made my birthday even more special, and they even gave me a Happy Birthday dessert 😍 - I went there on 08/09/25 at 12:30 for lunch.

The atmosphere and service we received were top-notch. 👍🌟🥂 The ginger ale mocktail was absolutely divine; I really enjoyed the spiciness level. 😋🔥🥂 When it came to the food, the duck salad tasted good, but the chicken Milanese let the whole experience down. 😞👎😩 I have had this dish before at the Liverpool Street Ivy and loved it, so I was really looking forward to eating it again, but I didn't enjoy this one as the chicken was dry. 🐔🙁😓 However, the apple fine tart rescued the overall experience. 🍎😋👍 So overall, it was good. 👍😊🌟

I have dined at a few of The Ivy restaurants, mainly in central London and always have a very pleasant experience with delicious food. The St Albans branch did not disappoint with its excellent customer service, stunning decor throughout and varied menu choices which catered for vegetarians. We didn’t have to wait too long for our meal to be served which was great as we dined with our children, ages 7 and 9. The cocktails are varied and deserts always an exciting end to your meal as you can see from the photos.

What a great place to have lunch. The team here are attentive, friendly and welcoming. We were so happy with the way they could accommodate us with our 1 year son, bringing the food promptly. Our meals were hot, fresh and delicious.

First time visiting for lunch with my family, who had just arrived after a 14-hour flight. We arrived 15 minutes early and were seated quickly. Staff were very attentive, especially helping us order due to my toddler’s cow’s milk allergy, which is tricky with Italian food. The food was delicious — pasta was cooked perfectly, and the risotto was outstanding. Some dishes were a bit spicy for my family, who aren’t used to spicy food. Desserts were lovely too; the tiramisu had a lighter coffee flavour than we’re used to, but still very enjoyable. Only downside: the wait for the main courses was quite long (about 45–50 minutes), and with a 1.5-hour dining limit, it felt rushed. Would be better if desserts could be ordered together with the mains. Overall, a great meal with friendly service

Had lunch with my sister. Usually go to the one in Berkhamsted. The decor is just as beautiful and food same excellent quality. Service was amazing. Staff very polite and helpful. My favourite main is the Lobster Ravioli - would recommend this dish for everyone to try. We both had the same! For starters we had the Funghi Trifolati (it is a beautiful mushroom starter sautéd with garlic and then finished off with cream and cheese served on sourdough toasted bread) and Garlic Pizza Bread with Mozzarella. Lovely atmosphere! Will be heading back there soon. Thank you!

I am giving this 4 stars because most of the others in the group enjoyed their meals , the service was superb , very friendly and professional and seemed nothing was too much to ask , it also had a great atmosphere . I ordered Linguine di mare , and it was not great to be honest , I usually order this dish in all the Italian restaurants I visit , and this was the worst out of them all , I believe the cook must have used frozen shellfish as it was very hard to chew and most of the shells were empty , my starter was fine but my wife's soup was lukewarm , it was a Saturday night and I suppose they were very busy .

Tabure St. Albans is a restaurant with a modern and inviting ambiance where guests can witness the preparation of their meals around the grill. The establishment prides itself on its story and emphasizes the importance of sharing dishes with friends in a relaxed setting, accompanied by a glass of wine. The menu features traditional Turkish cuisine such as stuffed courgette flower, grilled quail marinated with rose petals, and homemade dumplings in saffron and tomato broth.
We had a marvellous dining experience. High quality produce that is expertly spiced and cooked, all served with a genuine smile and care. Will go back to try other dishes. Only thing to note is that the 'large dishes' are not large enough to share, so would probably need order once each.

Easily the best Turkish food I’ve had! Everything was so tasty and unique to try. Staff are very friendly (shout out to Abraham who has been great every time we’ve been), and while the price is high for St Albans restaurants, the quality of the food and drink fit the bill. If I had to critique, I’d say the view from the window is bad. A brick wall, commercial bins, and white flood lights aren’t particularly the vibe. Perhaps the restaurant will put up a curtain in the future (or may have done since I last went). Highly recommend!
Sam S — Google review
My wife and I visited Tabure last night. Expectations were high after my wife visited with friends a few weeks ago and said it was fantastic. It did not disappoint, the food was on point, atmosphere was great and all round a definite 5/5. My favourite dish was the Lamb tava. Perfect level of spiciness for me! There is plenty of the menu we didn’t try so we will be going back!!

Our regular dinner place is Tabure. It is a fantastic spot for a casual meal or a special night out. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, with standout dishes are the pulled lamb dish and the house dips - just delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Tabure delivers a consistent, great dining experience. Highly recommended!
Warren H — Google review
The food was good and of a high standard. Unfortunately, the prices are incredibly high for the tiny portions received. Service was "direct" with no real conversation. The fact they add a service charge at the end is simply unacceptable - discretionary or not (NOT advertised on the menu).

Really delicious Roast Dinner, and in my case it is really difficult because it has to be gluten free. I had everything even the Yorkshire pudding and it was wonderful ... and those gratin potatoes seduced my heart. The atmosphere is really nice there. I will definitely come back. The only problem for me is that there is no children's menu
Karolina B — Google review

Absolutely top notch night out. From the incredible service by one of the family (thanks for all the recommendations!), to the amazing wine and cocktails. Then the food, just incredible. All served to us right in front of the charcoal grill. Some of the best Turkish food I’ve had in memory. Highlights were the butternut squash and the halloumi. But also every dish we ate was incredibly cooked. The chef on the charcoal grill was an absolute master. Couldn’t fault a single part, will be back again asap!

With its welcoming lounge, bar, and restaurant, it's a modern meeting place suitable for various occasions. The establishment is known for its attentive staff and reasonable prices.
A lovely little lively restaurant that I visited when on a date. The server who served us could only be described as sweet and professional. I have noticed the menu was a little bit limited, Pizzas only but I'm not sure if we got the right menu or not. Either way we enjoyed two wonderful pizzas and some cocktails/mocktails that were going at a one for two deal. They were amazing.

Went in for dinner on a hot Saturday. The ambience is great. The decor is more like a bar one would find in Texas or so. The place is spacious with quite a few tables. The service was prompt and good. The waiter gave us time to go through the menu and did not rush us for an order. The cocktail was usual, nothing extraordinary. They have a good mix of cocktails, beers and wine. The food menu is predominantly Italian with a mix western comfort food. The pizzas were well made and good portions. They could have been a tad bit better on the flavour. They have bottomless pizza for the more adventurous ones. The service was prompt and we were told in advance that the pizza would be delayed as there was a big bottomless pizza order. Overall a good place to visit with the family.

We fancied a roast dinner but didn’t want to cook, and Beech House is always our go to. The portions are generous and the food is delicious and well cooked. The Yorkshire puddings are light, the potatoes fluffy on the inside with a perfect crisp outside, and the gravy is full of flavour. It really feels like a treat and the value is excellent too. A great spot for a proper Sunday roast without the hassle of making it at home.

I’ve been to the Beech House many times and always thought the service and food were great. I had an exceptional experience today though. My young son and I went for lunch, which is tricky as he has a food allergy and is still quite young for a lot of food options. The staff were so accommodating though, and happily made him a pizza he could eat with no risk. He absolutely loved it! The service was very quick too, which is a huge deal when you have a little one, likely to get bored any minute! Thank you team! We’ll come back again, when it gets too lonely at home! 💜

Craft & Cleaver is a contemporary restaurant in St Albans, known for its delicious American BBQ staples and craft beer selection. Inspired by Brooklyn cookhouses, this meat-lover's paradise smokes its meats on-site before turning them into mouth-watering dishes like Black Angus beef brisket. The restaurant also offers a unique brunch experience with options like open burrito and steakhouse shakshuka, along with tasty milkshakes.
Absolutely amazing food!! Me and friend were looking for a decent burger for dinner, found Craft and Cleaver online, and after looking at the photos went to try it out. We we surprised to see it was busy on a Wednesday night during the Easter break but after sitting down and seeing the menu, we realised it was a proper American style BBQ joint! No wonder it was busy. The server was really friendly and recommended the Texas Tray and we were not disappointed at all. The food was absolutely magnificent and I’m glad I had this rather than a burger. It was some of the best meat I’d ever eaten! It was so tender having been in the smoker for 8+ hours, and the beef just fell off the bone. It was so good and we couldn’t finish it all. I would 100 percent recommend this place especially if you’ve never tried American BBQ before. Fantastic food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere.

Excellent value, food is delicious, would recommend the sausage and the pork ribs. Cocktails were all excellent as well. Definitely worth a visit

Food was totally fantastic! Delicious meats and large portions! Chips were a little over seasoned and over cooked. Very large party of men being super loud next to us, which was a pity. TL;DR: Decent food, but service was initially unwelcoming and even tried to refuse an existing booking. Visited around 2 PM with my child. The waitress (Charlotte?) claimed they were fully booked. I checked online and found plenty of tables available at the garden for that time, so I made a reservation and returned. She sighed and said they couldn't accommodate us because "the staff is too busy" and "there is too much work" I asked if the bartender was the manager, she nodded, and I spoke to him. He checked the booking, talked with Charlotte(?) and seated us in the half-empty garden area. Another waitress took our order, and after about 30 minutes, the beef ribs arrived. They were alright, especially with the whiskey sauce — without it, a bit underwhelming. Next time, I'll try the pork ribs. Kid's smashburger lacked any greens on the side. No explanation was given as to why: 1. The garden table wasn't offered initially. 2. The waitress refused the confirmed booking. Even if the kitchen was busy, she should've informed us of any wait times and let us decide.

Came here for dinner. Have been many occasions to Texas, and the bbq offerings they have there. Must say I was impressed with this place. Food was excellent. We got the Texas tray to share between 2 of us. It was more than enough. Filled us up, and certainly exceeded our expectations. Service was good too, and very attentive. We sat outside in the booth area which had a good atmosphere. Would certainly return if back in the area.

Dylans at The Kings Arms is a contemporary pub that seamlessly combines the sophistication of fine dining with the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional pub. The menu features seasonal dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients, such as slow roasted ox cheek in port and pot roasted cod. The pub also offers an extensive selection of craft beers to cater to every patron's taste.
Had the most wonderful afternoon celebrating my birthday here. Despite the fact that our table grew in size (almost double!) the team couldn’t have been more accommodating in moving us from the restaurant to the bar area. The food arrived bang on time, and was plentiful. Everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned, piping hot and absolutely delicious! All of my guests commented that it was truly exceptional food with service & ambience to match. Huge thanks to all of the team for a wonderful afternoon & evening. Keep doing what you do - you do it brilliantly!

I had a disappointing experience at this pub restaurant. Despite the upscale pricing, the quality and service didn't match. The place didn’t open on time, which was frustrating, especially since we had planned our visit based on the posted hours. When we finally got in, we ordered a bottle of wine that was both overpriced and underwhelming. The quality was poor, and it felt like no care had been taken in storing or selecting it. For a place charging premium prices, I expected much better service, presentation, and product knowledge — especially when it comes to wine. if you're paying restaurant or pub prices for a bottle, you absolutely deserve proper service. You’re not being unreasonable to expect that. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it based on this visit. There’s a lot of potential, but major improvements are needed in service consistency, wine selection, and value for money.

Food, service and atmosphere are all sensational. We had Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. Give me 14 of them. Every bit of the dish was just perfect. I'd say the lamb was better than the pork. The deserts were also great. Price is a bit high but no complaints because of how great everything was.

Okay I have to admit I was going for the Scotch eggs at first when I saw they had them on the menu. I was blown away at the Hand Dived Orkney Scallop in Garlic butter as well as the Grilled Sourdough and Burnt Onion Butter along with the Scotch egg. All 3 were delicious. We decided to order the special of the the Lamb chops with a delicious crispy potatoes and a mint chimichiuiri sauce that was made in house. What a meal to remember paired nicely with a glass of a White Wine with the starters then Red Wine with the mains. We finished with the Dairy Cow Sticky Toffee Pudding and Salted Caramel Ice Cream we liked that it wasn't sweet like the desserts in the US. 10/10 meal!

This was our second visit to Dylans after a 3 month wait for a Sunday reservation. No surprise as to why it's so popular, both the pork belly and the beef were delicious. Portions are generous with plenty of veg, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese included. Looking forward to going back!

This place was amazing, the historical building combined with lovely food and welcoming staff really set the mood. Food arrived very hot so be patient and don't let the excitement overcome and devour to quick without repercussion. I had the chicken roast, which was cooked perfectly. I've never been a fan of potato but I will still eat if fancied, so when tucking in to the roasted potatoes, it took me to my special place with a triple cooked, crunchy exterior, soft centred pure delight of a potato. We also had cauliflower and cheese, some veg with gravy.... all in all... certainly recommend!

We recently hired the back room at The Roundbush for our daughter’s baptism reception, and we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. We had 34 adults and 7 children in our group. From start to finish, the staff were incredible. We planned it with Shannon and she couldn’t have been more accommodating and made sure everything ran smoothly. The food was outstanding – we all had the roast dinner (as it was a Sunday), which was absolutely delicious, with perfectly cooked meats and all the trimmings. They also catered wonderfully for a mix of vegetarians, vegans and children, ensuring that everyone in our group was well looked after. Just a special add that the Guinness here is exceptional, with some avid fans of the black stuff in our group pleasantly impressed! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was impeccable. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special occasion. Highly recommend The Roundbush to anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and a lovely venue. Thanks again Shannon, Tony and Erika.

Decent Sunday lunch though a little more expensive than average. Good size portion for the kids meal. Parking at the front and on the side. Good service. Had a back garden and kids play equipment - climbing frame, slide and swings. Few non-alcoholic options

The Round Bush pub is just 20mins drive from London (Via M1) The area is quiet, once you exit from M1 towards the pub you might think you are in the country side but not, you can see greenery along the way. We went here on a nice Saturday evening, (I phone to booked ahead). They have a back garden with ample of tables and benches. Inside is a decent space. One way system and social distancing was observed, sanitizer everywhere The food was very nice, tasty and My son said the fish fingers was “yummy”. the steak was juicy, My Haddock fish and chips I can say it was delicious! We didn’t order any desserts as We are very full. The place was clean, they have toilet for wheelchair users. And dog friendly. I gave this a five star is because of the play ground. The staff are very nice and friendly too. If you want to getaway from city life and looking for a cool chillaxing place to have lunch, dinner or just a pint of beer, this is a perfect place.

Decent menu, looked really promising and it was fine. However, after reading the reviews I expected more. The garden is fine but when we arrived there was music blasting out for a private party and loads of kids in the play area, so not really conducive to a chilled evening in the sun. We opted to sit indoors which is quite nice. The food was fine but not special; some very simple changes could have elevated it. 2 if us had haddock with sautéed potatoes and tomatoes with herb butter; the butter was plonked on top of the fish cold and had little flavour although the fish was well cooked. Warmed butter and a little garlic would improve this. The potatoes were fine but the tomatoes were more akin to an English breakfast, halves of a standard tomato;using baby tomatoes, particularly on the vine, would refine the dish and elevate it at very little cost. My son had sausage and mash,he enjoyed the sausages but the mash lacked flavour. My daughter had pesto pasta with chicken, quite basic but she enjoyed it. My husband opted for an omelette and chips which he said was good. My son then had the apple pie and custard which he said was excellent. The staff were great; friendly and efficient. It's only 35 minutes from our house but hasn't done enough to entice us back on a trip out from London. A few tweaks and it might.

Lovely country pub, food was great and friendly service. I opted for the fish and chips which was a generous portion and tasted great. Definitely will be returning!

Nice pub food at reasonable prices that feels like a country pub.

This place was not busy at 8pm on a Tuesday night and some items on the menu were not available. The food was a decent standard though and fair value.

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is a charming pub located on the edge of Verulam Park in Abbey Mill Lane, St Albans. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere, offering classic British dishes and a variety of rotating beers. The pub is believed to be the oldest in Britain, with origins dating back to 793AD or possibly the 18th century. Its picturesque exterior resembles a country cottage, while the interior exudes coziness.
Sure! Here’s a polished and heartfelt Google review you can use: ⸻ We recently held our engagement party here and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, the service was outstanding. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly. Our waitress always served with a smile and was extremely efficient throughout the evening. The bar staff were just as amazing, even helping to clear our tables before our reservation began. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough – the staff alone make it truly special. Thank you for making our celebration unforgettable!

On a random stroll to Verulamium on a hot Saturday afternoon, we popped in for drinks. The place was buzzing, wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves here. Despite being so busy, the plentiful bar staff were quick to serve - I was asked about four times if I had been served yet! Fantastic customer service. The drinks were perfect and reasonably priced. Excellent!

Nice enough pub, v busy at the weekend, tends to be popular with overseas tourists as it claims to be the 'oldest pub in the world'. It's not but it's v old. Decent selection of drinks, food is good, staff are generally helpful. Worth a visit and pretty much an authentic old English pub if that's something you want to visit.

Immersive and magical environment! Despite the typical British weather (rain and cold), pub was cozy! Buffalo Chicken wings are a must on anyone’s try list! We had other food and drinks, can’t default ! Polite and friendly staff and welcoming fellow customers. Few car park space, max parking for 2 hours and £5.10 as of 19/10/2025! Nearby views at Verulamium Park is also amazing! Will definitely visit again!

As the title suggests, an olde worlde pub set just behind the cathedral in St Albans with a cracking atmosphere. We were a party of seven eating in the afternoon and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Plenty of choice on the food and drink front and we all left absolutely stuffed so good portions. The pub claims to have housed Oliver Cromwell in it's illustrious past so you can touch a bit of history whilst filling your face. What's not to like 😀

Grabbed a beer and a few things to share. The food was good- service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday afternoon. Would recommend to those in the area!

My parents came to visit me from abroad, and I decided to take them to this pub — known as the oldest in Britain — for what I hoped would be a memorable Sunday afternoon (visit on 6/07/2025 around 1:30pm). Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be quite the opposite. Many tables appeared reserved, but we were given one — with a 40-minute limit. Just 10 minutes after ordering drinks, a waitress (a lady with a notebook, seemingly in charge) asked us to vacate the table as they "needed it." We hadn’t even finished half our drinks. I politely explained the situation, and she gave us an extra 10 minutes, which we appreciated — but the damage was done. It was quite an unpleasant and embarrassing experience, especially with guests from abroad. The rushed treatment ruined our afternoon. This place may be a great pub otherwise, but even one staff member's poor handling can spoil a visit. I wouldn’t recommend it if you're planning to bring guests or hoping for a relaxed atmosphere.

Good food. Had to hunt down utensils, condiments and part of dinner, side order. But it was a bustling Saturday night so understandable. Servers were very busy but super nice.

St Villa offers a unique dining experience with a combination of seasonal cuisine and a full bar in an artful setting, complete with a spacious terrace. The restaurant provides high-quality food served fresh and hot, making it worth the price tag. Guests can enjoy their meals in private igloos for a fun and memorable experience. The attention to detail is evident in the dishes bursting with seasonal flavors, accompanied by relaxed music and an extensive terrace that creates an ambiance reminiscent of being abroad.
Great food. High quality and served fresh and hot. Fine dining and worth the price tag. We asked to be sat in an igloo. I confirmed the booking in person & wasn't made aware that there is a £10 p/p deposit - I got an email telling me which went to junk mail - but they were content I didn't need to as I'd confirmed booking. The igloo was warm in Spring and has vents for air as can get very warm. Great to see heater and blankets for cooler nights! The staff were attentive although drinks initially took a while. But the food was cracking and enjoyed by all. Drink choice is good too. 3 of us ate, 14.30 on a Saturday. Starters of pan-fried prawn in a delicious lobster bisque, and a tasty mushroom crostini. Mains of two mushroom risotto, one with prawns, one with chicken, and one sea bass on a bed of mash and with stem broccoli was delicious too. Sticky toffee pudding was served with custard when we asked for no ice cream. The lemon tart is actually lemon meringue and a little sweet so bit disappointed it wasn't a tart! The Di Sarano sour cherry cocktail was good too. £39 p/head not including drinks at £48 including 3 alcoholic, sparkling water bottle, tap water and 1 cocktail for dessert. Can't fault them. Definitely recommend. Will be back. Went back ! Aug2022. Evening meal. Good offer £19 for 2 courses.

Really amazing cocktails and food. The venue is so pretty, very modern and trendy but also has a great outdoors area for the summer. Couldn’t speak more highly of the food, so fresh and tasty. We had the lunch menu and it was such good value. We’ll be back!

Made a return visit to St. Villa, after enjoying it last month. Even better this time, as on a Tuesday, you can take your own wine or get 50% off theirs. Great food and service, sat in a warm igloo, no jacket required. Highly recommended.

Went for dinner for the first time at St. Villa and will definitely be going back. Had the Fritto Misto Di Mare (seafood and fish) to start and Chef's Famous Pappardelle Duck Ragu and both were incredibly delicious. Servers were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was great. Would highly recommend. I look forward to going back soon.

Delicious well presented food that didn't break the bank. Staff were lovely and we got to sit in one of the outdoor igloos (heated in the colder months) which felt special.
Rosie J — Google review
Today was our second visit, after one last summer. The food was good and enjoyable, and the pods outside are quite good and provide a pleasant experience and safe distance. However, a few shortcomings ruined the experience. First of all, the staff is not overly friendly: it almost feels like they are doing a favour to serve the food. Also, we explicitly booked a pod and they tried to get out of that (even though we confirmed with them more than month ago via message) and were stroppy about it. We also mentioned we would have been celebrating my two daughters' birthdays and there wasn't even a mention to that or a happy birthday something for either of them. A bit disappointing, as I spent more than £100 for a meal for two adults and one kid (the other is too young). Shame because we won't be going back or recommend this.
Gianpaolo S — Google review
The servers were really friendly, and the food was fabulous. I had Calamari rings , seabass cooked to perfection and oreo cheesecake which tasted and looked more like whipped cream and crushed oreos in a glass. I went for a group gathering (about 25 people). The servers did seem to struggle a bit serving a large group, even though we pre-ordered our food over a week before the event. For the most part things came without delay but for some additional items we had to repeatedly ask for the same thing before it came, in one case peppercorn sauce never arrived for someone have a steak. Overall a good night and good food! Would definitely go back again just not in a big group.

Pub
The Six Bells is a charming and historic pub located in St Albans, dating back to the 16th century. This dog-friendly establishment offers a traditional atmosphere and serves a variety of Tring Brewery ales. Situated near Verulamium Park, it's an ideal stop for those exploring the city or looking for a relaxing break. The pub features hearty lunch, evening, and Sunday lunch menus, as well as popular curry nights.
On the hottest day of the year so far, today, 20 March,my wife, dog and I did a leisurely circuit of Roman Verulamium park and sat down, rather wearily on the patio in the garden of the Six Bells. The first positive is that a large part of the outside beer garden is non-smoking. More pubs should do this, especially in spring and summer. The Six Bells has a changing cast of real ales with rotating beers from the Vale Brewery in Bucks. I had a pint of pale ale followed by a best bitter. Both pints were on top form, obviously well kept and ideal for relaxing after a walk in the sun. The lunch menu is varied and tempting but do look out for the specials or you may miss out. In the end, we both plumped for the venison burger with Camembert, bacon and salad. That was accompanied by a generous portion of fries and some quite delicious onion rings. I can say with hand on heart that the venison burger was among the very best burgers I have eaten. Huge, meaty, strongly flavoured and tender; it melted in the month. Keeping the venison company was the inspired choice of two chunks of Camembert and two rashers of lean back bacon. I scoffed the lot - as did my wife. If only all pub lunches were as good. My only regret was being too full to taste some other dishes on the menu. I will rectify that in my next visit as there's sure to be one. Last but certainly not least, the service was first rate, the staff welcoming, going out of their way to ensure that you had everything you needed but never intrusive. In sum, if you're visiting the park, five minutes walk away, and in need of hearty food, this is the place to go. I know I'll be back.

We stopped in on our way past, having never visited before. The staff were welcoming, we arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen was about to close and they made sure to get our food order into them before they closed. Excellent service, the atmosphere is lovely and the food was delicious and very high quality. We had a really pleasant experience here, I’d definitely recommend. We ordered two of the Steakish sandwiches off of the Lunch menu, they were accommodating of removing an ingredient off of one of them, and there was a generous amount of steak in the lovely, fluffy rolls. Thank you Six Bells!

Just had an exceptional meal at The Six Bells. We go there often as it used to be our most local pub but we try and visit as much as possible. Always friendly staff and the food is so great. Excellent chicken wings and the best pie in St Albans by far. All home made - we had chicken and leek - was delicious! Finished off with a crunchie cheesecake which was equally excellent! Thought we’d give it a review as we never do and it honestly deserves it. A true local gem.

The food here is a cut above! I’m not exaggerating but this pub does the best chips and are worth a visit in their own right. Guinness was also on point.

We went for the Sunday roast and it was so good. I went for the trio of meats roast and my partner went for the roast beef. I would recommend booking but we didn’t have a problem booking in the morning. The specials board/normal menu also looks like it has some great options, so it would be great to try some different dishes.

Always a warm welcome! Great choice of Ales with extensive food Menu. Recommended...
TS F — Google review
Understand Sundays are busy for pubs but we were so rushed through our 2 hour booking, which was a short space of time for a group booking anyway, that from 40 minutes before the table was due back we were told by multiple members of staff repeatedly that we had to leave the table and we couldn’t order anything else - not even a portion of chips. Not a warm or hospitable environment for a family catch up !
Jasmine B — Google review
What an excellent roast dinner we had in there on a very busy Mother’s Day. The staff are very attentive and friendly and the food was amazing. The mars bar cheesecake is to die for. But family also had the sticky toffee pudding. And the chocolate brownie. All very highly recommended

Locanda Bagutta St Albans is a hidden gem on George Street, offering top-notch Italian cuisine. The restaurant, opened in 2018, has garnered praise from locals and visitors alike. With a warm and friendly atmosphere, the owners and staff provide exceptional service. Guests can savor delectable pizza and fresh pasta while enjoying the quaint courtyard with twinkling lights. The extensive wine selection adds to the dining experience, making it a must-visit for those who appreciate authentic Italian flavors.
Lovely hidden gem restaurant down George Street. We were lucky enough to eat outside as it wasn’t too busy and it was a warm evening. The Italian waiter was great and took real pride in his job. I went for the meatwork pizza which was so good. I’m looking forward to trying one of the pasta dishes next time.

Tucked away in the side streets of St Albans, this family run Italian is a great find. The food is full of flavour, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Feels really authentic, and you can tell a lot of care goes into everything. Definitely worth a visit if you’re after proper Italian food.

A gem tucked away in a little quaint cobbled alley. Lovely food. Service was even better. Mr Ferrari was such a delight to talk to, I asked him to decide for me based on what I liked and I was not disappointed. Very delicious authentic Italian. Great place to impress and will definitely be back👌

Disappointing Experience I recently visited this Italian restaurant with expectations of a cozy atmosphere and authentic cuisine. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The food lacked the flavor and freshness I associate with good Italian cooking. While the menu offered a decent variety, the execution didn’t match the price point — which was slightly on the expensive side for what was served. It’s a shame, because the ambiance had potential and the location is convenient. I hope the restaurant takes feedback seriously and improves both the quality and value of their offerings.

My friends and I have been going here every week for the past three years, and it has been a highlight of our week throughout. The pizza is amazing, we recommend the meatwork or the pepperoni. The people working there are incredibly friendly and have taken good care of us, specially Giuliano for helping to organise it and take care of us and Joe for making the best pizzas of all time. I would recommend anybody to go if they are in St Albans as it is a 10/10

This place made me very ill!!! I visited last night for dinner with my boyfriend. I ordered pasta with tomato sauce and he ordered the vegetable risotto. I explained to the waitress that we have ordered vegan because I am allergic to eggs and milk and so can they please also be aware of this in the kitchen. I am aware of cross-contamination in the kitchen. I did not mention that I am just extremely lactose intolerant because I have a severe egg allergy as well and I need both taken seriously. I will eat out because I do not have instant anaphylaxis so I am aware that is my risk. However, what happened last night was unacceptable. I ordered very clearly and the waitress brought our food and I double-checked again. Me and my boyfriend were sharing so I tried the risotto and I just felt that it tasted very cheesy. So I asked the waitress three more times to go clarify and my boyfriend also backed me up asking an extra time making it veryyyyy clear that I'm allergic. I decided against eating any more of the risotto because my lactose intolerance won't show for another few hours and I didn't want to take the risk. But once my boyfriend had completely finished the meal, the waitress came back and said "Hi. Just to let you know. Sorry but the risotto contains butter and cheese." Honestly I was absolutely shocked and horrified that after checking so many times and being reassured by her on 4 occasions she came back to tell us that she had lied to us. As far as she was concerned, I had an allergy and she is "lucky" that i am extremely extremely intolerant. But I was up all night feeling poorly because of this and it will also ruin my day today. But actually if it had been my egg allergy we might have been calling an ambulance. The waitress did not handle it well. I demanded that she removed the service charge from the bill. But I didn't get a further apology and thinking back, I should have argued that we shouldn't have paid for any of the meal. I just wanted to get out of there before I started feeling really unwell. I won't come back here and I suggest if you have an allergy, intolerance, dietary or religious requirement you do not come here. I recognise when there is human error but here I was clearly lied to multiple times and that is unbelievable in 2025.

Went there for a brunch and it wasn’t too busy we got a seat right away. The staff was very welcoming and quite chatty as well which was good. We went for the English breakfast which isn’t authentic but it’s absolutely brilliant. The slightly spiced beans goes perfectly well with the sourdough and the sausage was great too. We had a cappuccino to wash it down. My friend was visiting London and this was his first meal in the city after a long flight and it went down pretty well. Highly recommend!

Had a fantastic brunch at The Breakfast Club in St Albans this weekend! The vibe of the place is relaxed yet lively – perfect for a lazy brunch date. I went for the wrap, which was packed with flavour and really satisfying, and paired it with a refreshing peach iced tea that hit the spot. My girlfriend opted for the masala chai, which had just the right amount of spice and warmth, and she also tried the pani puri and vada pav. She was seriously impressed – said the flavours were authentic and reminded her of proper street food in India. Service was friendly and fast mainly manager ansh was helping us with the menu was very friendly and the staff made us feel really welcome without being overbearing. We’ll definitely be coming back to try more off the menu. Highly recommend if you're in St Albans and looking for a unique brunch spot with a mix of traditional and fusion flavours.

Rooms - we were given a room where the toilet had not been cleaned. Very disappointed so we phoned reception who quickly sent up a cleaner. We were not happy with this so they did upgrade us to a better room and a few drinks vouchers. Breakfast was brilliant- can’t fault it, but would appreciate more options for a halal diet. Spa - we did the included Cottonmill spa on day 1 and that was sufficient. I think it’s quite an expensive upgrade to do the Club, but we went ahead and this was definitely worth it! We had spa treatments which were brilliant & attended a class as well. Food - the food was very sub standard. Better options are definitely needed. Fish finger wraps are not what I was expecting - perhaps some pasta or better sandwiches would be more beneficial. Parking & facilities were brilliant. Could be signposted a bit better

Lovely hotel for a city escape. Tastefully decorated rooms, delicious breakfast, wonderful spa, friendly staff, lovely grounds. REALLY good gym. The entire property is lovely. Really easy to get to from London using the train, and a nice 30 min walk from the station or a short bus. Only note is that there's two spas inside the property, the more luxury one is paid for (over £100) OR you need to book the expensive suites to get access to it. The open to all spa is nice enough (like a normal hotel spa). I didn't get to visit the more luxury one.

I visited for afternoon tea with a dear friend, and from the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Quinton. This friendly greeting set the tone for what turned out to be a truly lovely day. Quinton, along with the rest of the team, took such wonderful care of us, they were kind, considerate, professional, and courteous throughout. Their attentive service really made the whole experience feel special. The afternoon tea itself was enjoyable, with a generous offering of tea, coffee, and sweet treats. Afterwards, we strolled through the beautiful grounds the perfect way to walk off a little indulgence.

We went looking for a relaxed weekend just outside of London and Sopwell certainly delivered. The room was brilliant and included a jacuzzi in private outside area. I visited here for my 50th birthday with my daughters, we have been here a few times, although it has now got very expensive. We waited a long time for our drinks after ordering on the app. I feel the place is looking a bit scruffy considering the cost. Its a shame as it was always a lovely luxurious treat. On a positive note, we did enjoy the afternoon tea and the staff are lovely.

If I could give no reviews I could I had one of the worst hospitality experiences of my life at Sopwell House. My group and I were treated with blatant disrespect and what felt like racial discrimination from the moment we arrived. Staff were cold, constantly double-looking at us, and spoke in an unwelcoming, dismissive tone. A booking issue was handled with intimidation — we were threatened with the police over a simple request to verify payment, which was deeply embarrassing and completely unnecessary. On top of that, the hygiene standards were unacceptable: we found hair in all of our food, and were even given an already opened water bottle. We were asked to leave the pool for no clear reason, even though we followed every rule. The entire experience felt like we were being treated differently because of who we are. I left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and incredibly disappointed. For a hotel that claims to offer luxury and high service standards, this was horrendous. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially guests of colour.

This place is delicious!!! I've been there a few times and whatever I eat is delicious whether it's chicken wings, chicken rolls, shrimp, lamb etc., I don't like fries and these are just wonderfully different than all the others 🤩 And my favorites are spinach and feta cheese rolls in puff pastry and this tzatziki sauce 😋😋😋 It's just delicious there. The place is very atmospheric, calm and different than all the others. The service is top notch! Martina runs the service there at the highest level! I highly recommend it!!! The place is quite hidden and changed the owner and cuisine some time ago, but it's really worth trying because you will definitely come back there!!! I loved it 😍

Fantastic food and service in a great location with a lovely atmosphere. Have previously only been the the loft for a cocktails and a work Christmas dinner about 5 years ago, I booked a table here at short notice via the convenient and simple WhatsApp service last night. On arrival we received a genuinely nice welcome and shown quickly to somewhere that we could relax with a couple of great cocktails whilst we decided what to order from the menu. We were given as much time as we needed and without any pressure to make our choices, which was much appreciated and something that really annoys me in many other restaurants. Our lovely Italian waitresses (never know if that is the right terminology these days, so apologies if I am wrong) was happily to go through the menu with us with recommendations etc. We both went with the lamb Souvlaki and Kleftiko. Both dishes were delicious, perfectly cooked, and more than generous portions. The best compliment I can give to be honest, is that food could not have been better if we’d been a top notch Taverner in Greece. Plus, as a lovely touch they most have overheard us talking about it being my partners birthday and we got complimentary: amazing Cheesecake for dessert. Thank you so much and I look forward to coming back again soon. 😀

Hosted a birthday here and I could not recommend it enough! We were able to have private use of the top room. It was beautifully decorated already with fairy lights, but we were also given freedom to decorate it further ourselves. The food was delicious (meat, veggie and vegan options) and the service was fantastic. Martina and her staff made sure to check on us regularly even with a large other party group and several flights of stairs to climb each time. Thank you so much!

We first went for a spontaneous dinner date night and we loved the food and the atmosphere so much we decided to have our intimate civil ceremony dinner there too with our family. Thank you so much for accommodating us and our requests. The food was delicious, my dad especially couldn’t stop talking about how perfect his T-bone steak was and my starter feta saganaki was so delicious the first time I had to have it again on our special day! Even though I baked our own little wedding cake, they served it so nicely with the sweetest strawberries which we did not bring or ask for, it was a lovey touch! Food portions were super generous too, no one went home hungry, barely had space for cake. I can only recommend if you’re looking for a place to eat in St Albans. Especially if you’re looking for great food and service for special occasions! We will definitely be back! Thank you so much again for making our day that much more special!

We went for lunch and had some excellent food in a cosy atmosphere. Everything we ordered was prepared well. The staff were lovely, but unfortunately service was slow and we skipped dessert in the end after waiting 20 minutes. We would return next time we're in the area.

Me and my partner hosted our wedding reception here at Loft. Martina, Aber and the team went absolutely above and beyond to make sure everyone was well fed and having a great time. I can’t thank them enough. The food was exceptional and everything Inc facilities were amazing.

We went for a Saturday lunch today. The food was delicious, portions very generous and staff very attentive. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and they were so kind to bring him a slice of cake with a candle on the house too. Thank you all at Loft.
