Bird watching area
Porbandar Bird Sanctuary, inaugurated in 1989 and renovated in 2018, is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts located just 2 km from the bustling city of Porbandar. This unique sanctuary spans only 1 square kilometer but boasts an impressive array of nearly 200 bird species throughout the year. It serves as a vital conservatory for both migratory and indigenous birds, including stunning flamingos, graceful herons, and various waterfowl like pelicans and coots.
Situated right in the heart of the city on Chhaya Road and spread across just 1 km, Porbandar Bird Sanctuary is the smallest bird sanctuary of India. All serious birders out there, don't miss this little paradise while serious birding far and wide across the wetlands of Porbandar. You will miss a pearl in search of the stars! You will find all the species right here at a stone's throw. Very well maintained and heavily protected on the periphery by high walls and gates with very active and co operative guards keeping an eye on our winged immigrants and passage guests alike with our resident birds. This beautiful little aviary caught me by utter surprise! As I entered, I skimmed across all the birds I was documenting for 2 days at the surrounding wetlands of the city. Pat I began my ebird checklist and started adding flamingos, pelicans, stints, gulls, stilts, ibises, spoon bills, cormorants, Sandpiper, herons, egrets, geese, ducks, grebes, shovellers, pintails, terns, gulls, shelducks, shanks, storks and many more. Sighting big flocks of cranes and demoiselles here was a lifer! As it was sunset time, it was a spectacle to witness huge flocks of big birds coming in for roosting. And the tiny swifts, swallows and martens made a pretty sight hovering over the little lake in scattered groups. Gujarat forest department is leading in bird protection and conservation in the country. No wonder our feathered friends find it so safe to be in the middle of a bustling city, to come in large numbers and spend their warm winters without a worry. The sanctuary has very well maintained restroom, a gazebo for relaxation, picnicking, workouts or yoga, a watch tower to feast your eyes on the beaked beauties with your binoculars or spotting scopes or photograph them up super close with your lenses. There's a well maintained walkway along the length of the lake with pictures and names of birds found in the lake to educate visitors.

It's fine but it's upon your luck and timing when you are visiting for seeing the birds.
Abhishek S — Google review
It is the only sanctuary in India, which lies in the heart of city of Porbandar and is a unique example of co-existence of man and nature. It is the only bird sanctuary of the Gujarat that provides legal protection to varied species of birds which nest here. Porbandar Bird Sanctuary is the smallest bird sanctuary spread over in an area of 1 square km. The sanctuary has a lake attracting migratory birds and other birds such as teals, fowls, flamingos, ibis and curlews Good for nature lovers, Birds lovers Best for students also

Keyur K — Google review
Spotted atleast 4 different species of birds here. Infra needs upkeep. A lot of trees and branches have come into the walkway after the storms. Was saddened by plastic garbage spread on the brink of the lake. Some garbage burning at the end of the walkway.

A small lake amidst the concrete of Jungles , and there plenty of birds in open habitat . Just exhilarating . In Porbandar ,I liked the bird sanctuary the most .there are sufficient places to sit , a watchtower is there to see the beautiful birds . First time in my life , I saw pink flamingo , that also in mid April , and was super excites to spot them . A paradise for not only bird watchers but for every visitor .. ~Travelling Twogether ♥️

Very nice place a small one not popular is a must visit if u love birds. See it in morning opens at 8AM closes at 6PM no entry cost very calm and serene place. See if u can carry binoculars to get a proper glimpse of birds. Do carry a good camera too.

A small walable stretch of around half an kilometre will drag to know many species of birds. Porbandar Bird Sanctuary is living example of coexistence of human and wild life. It could be one of the sanctuary which is based out in city amongst houses and factories. It nests myriad varieties of domestic as well as migrated birds. Best time to visit could be September to February. I realy enjoyed myself in the company of birds. Faith Amol Nakve

_A Serene Escape: Porbandar Beach_ As I stepped onto the shores of Porbandar Beach, I was immediately struck by its pristine beauty. The beach is a tranquil oasis, perfect for those seeking a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The moment I settled into the soft sand, I felt my worries melting away with the gentle lapping of the waves. As I sat there, I was treated to a delightful cup of cava tea, which added to the soothing ambiance of the beach. The tea was flavorful and refreshing, and it complemented the cool ocean breeze perfectly. To accompany my tea, I indulged in a plate of delicious chana chat, which was savory and satisfying. But the true pièce de résistance was the breathtaking sunset that unfolded before my eyes. The sky was painted with hues of pink, orange, and purple, creating a stunning visual spectacle. As the sun dipped into the ocean, I felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over me. Porbandar Beach is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The beach is clean, well-maintained, and offers a serene atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding. Whether you're looking to watch the sunset, enjoy a snack, or simply sit and relax, Porbandar Beach is the ideal spot. Rating: 5/5 stars Recommended for: Relaxation, sunset viewing, and a peaceful beach experience.

Very nice and relatively clean temple commemorating the birth place of Sudama, Lord Krishna's friend. There is a lovely small maze at the entrance too. Do visit when in Porbander

Didn't expect there to be a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna's close friend Sudama. However, the temple could be maintained better, as there was dust spread all over the entrance gate. You can plan to visit this place after visiting Gandhiji’s birthplace, as it is located nearby.

Tara Mandir, also known as Nehru Planetarium, is a captivating destination in Porbandar that has been enchanting visitors since its inauguration by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1972. This underground planetarium offers an engaging experience for both young and old alike, making it a perfect family outing. With its advanced technology, Tara Mandir showcases stunning cosmic displays on a domed ceiling, illustrating everything from eclipses to constellations.
A very old planatorium but well maintained. You will get information about galaxies, star patterns and planets. The show starts only when the visitors are more than 25. Or you have to wait.
Ajay S — Google review
It was unbelievable that they denied to play the show until they find atleast 25 ppl ! I went from Rajkot to Here & enjoyed visiting porbandar but the natives here were much excited for me to show this Taramandal show. But unfortunately the show got cancelled just because they can't sold 25 tickets of the singal show! Moreover they have set ticket counter far away from the actual show place. It's an recommendation that visit this place only on holidays and muct purchas the tickets from the front of the museum. Else best of luck!

Overall a wonderful experience. Beautiful planetarium with a decent presentation of our universe. Great place to visit in porbandar for young kids with curious minds. Parking spaces are there. Drinking water was there. Not sure about washrooms. Entry ticket 20₹/person above 10 10₹/person below 10 No tickets for kids below 5years
Luckyrajsinh H — Google review
it's good. A minimum 25 people need to start the show.
Kunj P — Google review
It's not that upto mark.. At once, only 20 ppl are allowed inside.. Per person ticket cost is 8rs.. There's small Mueseum outside which is worth watching.. But I felt, the planetarium is little boring as the person explains things which most of us know.. May be this is good for kids who are beginners in this field
Asha R — Google review
It is one of very old planetarium of India. Small capacity room about 50 persons. Doesn't show much details of the space. The guide will say inform you about the things in Gujarati only. Worth one visit.

Don't expect more. There is nothing to see more than experiencing a night sky. They will switch off lights of a domed room and with help of machine create spot with seems like stars in wall. Not usefull in current eletronic age where every this is understandable in youtube and all. Place is full of pilgrimage who are on char dham yatra going from dwarka to somnath and want to have break in between in porbandar. It wad usefull in decade of 60's when there wad nothing understand the sky and stars To Chinese projectors used in diwali makes more spot than that. Hope it helps.

Kirti Mandir, also known as Mahatma Gandhi's Birth Place, is a three-story museum and memorial temple dedicated to the life of the famed nationalist leader. The ancestral Haveli where Gandhi was born has been transformed into a museum showcasing his old photographs, prized possessions, and a library of books related to Gandhian Philosophy. The temple houses life-size paintings of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi in reverence.
It was amazing to see the birthplace of MK Gandhi. It is an old styled multistory building. They have displayed the pictures of Gandhi from his childhood to becoming Mahatma. It has a library with books filled with Gandhi's works. The place is well maintained like a temple and it was clean everywhere.

Beautiful garden around the temple where you can relax your mind Sudama ji Sushila ji statue and Mahatma Gandhi with Kasturba statue are both the side in the garden. However you cannot see the sunset but you feel the completeness vibe of the sunset. As you enter the temple starting from left Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, Radha-Krishna, Laxmi Narayan, Ram Darbar, Karunamayi Maa and Lord Ganesh statues are there. You will find different statues of devotees on the pillars also like Balram ji, Nrushinh ji, etc. The magical Sandhya Aarti takes place at 7:00 p.m. when more than 150 Rishi Kumar sang Aarti, it feels so blessed. After an exhilarating day at the Gir Lion Safari, I took a moment to recharge with some delightful traditional Gujarati cuisine, including the smoky flavors of Ringan no Odo and the tangy Vagharelo Rotlo. Little did I know that just an hour away from my hotel in Sasan-Gir lay the magnificent Somnath Mahadev Temple.
Night view of the temple is awesome. U will not be allowed to carry anything inside the temple. U need to submit all ur belongins like purse, bag, mobile or any other electronic gadget. Sea is just behind the temple.

Visiting the Jambuban Caves was truly a divine and unforgettable experience. The caves are not only historically significant but also deeply spiritual, carrying the essence of Sanatan Dharma and the timeless stories of our Itihasas. The atmosphere inside is serene and filled with sacred vibrations, making it a perfect place for meditation, reflection, and connecting with the divine. What made the visit even more enlightening was the profound knowledge shared by Pandit Vijay Bhogayta Ji. His depth of wisdom, clear explanations of ancient scriptures, and ability to connect the past with the present truly elevate the entire experience. Listening to him turns a simple visit into a spiritual journey. His guidance is like a lamp that brightens the path of seekers who come here. If you are visiting Gujarat, the Jambuban Caves are an absolute must-see, and learning under the guidance of Pandit Ji makes it even more special. This place is not just a historical site, it is a living temple of knowledge and devotion. Highly recommended for anyone seeking both cultural heritage and spiritual awakening.

Jai Dwarkadish. Felt Blessed. Standing there where 5000 years back Bhagavan Sri Krishna fought with Jambuvan for 28 days. Really we are blessed to be there. Without Lord's Anugarha it was not possible. Jai Dwarkadish 🙏🙏🙏🙏

It's about half an hour away from Porbandar city. This cave is known as resting place of Jambant who was one of the associate of Lord Rama during yudh with Ravan. In this cave there was a fight between Jamvant and Lord Krishna for a month and later on after knowing that Lord Krishna is avtar of Lord Vishnu in Dwapar Jamwant married his daughter to Lord Krishna. It's natural limestone cave where water dipping from top on many shivlingas and a religious place. One may feel oxygen dificiency inside the cave as it's slightly deeper with very humid air. Must visit place and can be easily reached.

🕉️✨ A Divine & Historic Treasure – Jambuvan Caves (Jambuvant Gufa) ✨🐾 Visiting Jambuvan Caves was an absolutely magical experience! 🌄 Nestled amidst rocky hills near Ranavav, this ancient site is filled with deep mythological importance and serene natural beauty 🌿. According to legends, this sacred cave was the home of Jambuvan 🐻, the divine bear-warrior from the Ramayana, who later engaged in a legendary duel with Lord Krishna 🕊️ over the Syamantaka jewel 💎. As you step inside, the cool air and the faint sound of chants instantly make you feel peaceful 🙏. The small temple inside dedicated to Lord Krishna and Jambuvan glows softly with oil lamps 🪔, creating a truly divine aura. The ancient rock formations and carvings tell stories from thousands of years ago, making it a paradise for both spiritual seekers and history lovers 📜. 🌅 The journey to the cave is scenic, surrounded by greenery and calm landscapes 🌾 — a perfect getaway from city noise. 💡 Tip: Visit during early morning or evening for a calm and blissful experience 🌞🌇. If you love mythology, nature, and peace, Jambuvan Caves is a must-visit hidden gem in Gujarat 💖🙏✨.

A Sacred and Serene Experience – A Must-Visit for Mythology Lovers I had the privilege of visiting Jambavan Cave last week, and it was truly a spiritually enriching experience. This ancient cave is steeped in mythology and holds immense significance from both the Ramayana and Mahabharata eras. The cave is believed to be the dwelling of Jambavan, the devoted bear companion of Lord Rama. It is also the legendary site where Lord Krishna battled Jambavan for over 20 days for the Syamantaka jewel, ultimately receiving both the jewel and Jambavan’s daughter, Jambavati, in marriage. Inside the cave, there’s an ancient temple dedicated to Jambavan along with a naturally formed Shivling, which adds to the divine aura. The atmosphere is calm, cool, and mystical due to the moist soil and natural cave formations. The place is well-maintained and peaceful, making it ideal for meditation or quiet reflection. Highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone interested in Indian mythology, spiritual history, or simply seeking a tranquil escape in Porbandar.

The beach is neat and clean and seems silent but we did not seen anybody there except us... So we made some photography and avoid to enter to sea and we are suggesting same for other tourist also as it seems dangerous to take Bath or swim in sea... It is an awesome place to visit during sunset...it feels like heaven...

Nice beach, but not clean enough. The scene is good. But lack of places to eat even nearby. The nearest eating halls are in the market beside sudama mandir which is about 2-3 km from this place. The eating options are limited at the beach too. There are rocky appearances mostly along the beach, so watch your steps as they are not level. The sand is actually made of crushed seashells. The view is nice. Also places to sit are made available on the beach.

Outdoor Activities
Madhavpur Beach, located on the Porbandar Veraval highway, is a pristine and tranquil destination in Gujarat. The beach boasts clean shores and clear waters, perfect for nature lovers seeking relaxation. It is renowned for its stunning views and crystal-clear water that allows visibility of the seabed. Madhavpur Ghed, a culturally significant village nearby, is believed to be where Lord Krishna married Rukmini according to folklore.
So far one of the best beach I have visited in Gujarat. Very neat and clean - less crowded as well. Visited during high tide so waves were dangerous, couldn’t go into the sea. Kids played nicely on the beach, clean sand. It’s still developing and not too many food options so would suggest you take water, Food along.

Madhavpur Beach: The Best Tourist Place to Visit! 🌊🏝️ If you’re looking for a perfect blend of natural beauty and serenity, Madhavpur Beach is an absolute gem. 💙✨ Located along the stunning coastline of Gujarat, this beach offers pristine golden sand, gentle waves, and an atmosphere that’s both peaceful and rejuvenating. One of the best parts of visiting Madhavpur Beach is its less-crowded vibe, making it ideal for families, solo travelers, and couples looking to spend quality time by the sea. 🌞🏖️ The beach is clean, safe, and lined with coconut trees, giving it a truly tropical feel. Apart from relaxing walks and picnics, the sunset views here are breathtaking — a picture-perfect moment you’ll cherish forever. 🌅📸 The beach is also steeped in mythological significance, as it’s believed to be the place where Lord Krishna married Rukmini. 🕉️🌺 I highly recommend adding Madhavpur Beach to your travel plans — it’s the best spot to unwind, soak in nature’s beauty, and connect with the cultural heritage of Gujarat. 🏖️✨🌼

Madhavpur beach is one of the craziest beach anyone would ever witness. Ocean waves here can sometimes be very scary, powerful and huge. Very beautiful place, a good break spot when you’re on the way to Somanath temple. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL ON THE SEA SHORE.
Gourav B — Google review
Very very beautiful, clean and peaceful beach ⛱️. We enjoyed evening there. There are lots of sports activities. Ideal for old, young and Kids..
Varun G — Google review
Madhavpur Beach, located on Gujarat’s Arabian Sea coast near Porbandar, is renowned for its clean sands, turquoise waters, and tranquil surroundings, with swaying coconut palms lining the shore. The beach holds mythological significance as the believed site of Lord Krishna’s marriage to Rukmini, and visitors can enjoy activities like camel rides, boating, and beach scootering, though swimming is generally discouraged due to strong tides. With its serene ambiance, natural beauty, and minimal commercialization, Madhavpur Beach offers a peaceful and picturesque getaway, especially between November and March for the safest experience
Brijesh G — Google review
Best beach for enjoying with family and friends. Not available Parking facility, You have to park on road. Lot of food stalls available. Not for Bath in sea due to very high tides in alltime.

Relaxing beach. Awesome place to visit in sunset.
Vivek M — Google review
This beach is one of the most peaceful and well-maintained spots I’ve visited. The moment you step onto the sand, there’s a calming vibe that instantly makes you feel relaxed. The beach is clean and inviting, making it perfect for families, solo travelers, or couples looking to unwind. The sand is soft and well-kept, great for barefoot walks or just lying down and soaking up the sun. The water is clear and beautiful, with gentle waves that are ideal for swimming or simply splashing around near the shore. Whether you're looking to enjoy a morning walk along the coast or just sit back and watch the sunset, this beach offers a naturally calming atmosphere. There’s enough space to enjoy without feeling crowded. People around are generally respectful and keep the vibe quiet and pleasant. I noticed the beach was being maintained regularly, which really enhances the overall experience. There are basic facilities nearby like seating areas, clean public restrooms, and a few stalls selling refreshments like coconut water, tea, and snacks. Nothing feels over-commercialized, and that’s what keeps the charm of this place alive. The best part? You can just sit for hours doing nothing—and it still feels like time well spent. The combination of natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and proper upkeep makes this beach a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I need a break from the busy city life.
