Castle
Forte de São Filipe, also known as São Filipe Castle, is a historic fortress located in Setubal, Portugal. Built in the 16th century to defend against pirate raids, this magnificent castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Sado Estuary. The fort features an irregular star-shaped plan with domed sentry posts and a tunnel accessible via the Portao de Armas.
Easy to get to by car. You can literally drive through the gates to park. A bit of a hike if walking but well worth it for great views. Chapel is tiles and beautiful too. And it’s FREE!
Martin B — Google review
Nice fort to visit. Very beautiful place im Setubal It is possible to drive all the way up to this castle. Parking was available. Beautiful view of tha bay and the city. Plus for having a restaurant / cafe at the top. Nice to enjoy a glass of wine with this view . Good place for a date with your loved one.
Benjamin B — Google review
Scenic viewpoint to the city of Setubal, Troia and the Sado river. The parking and entry are free and there is a small cafe on top. Sadly, the trip was quite short since you can only visit the roofs of the castle. The interior is closed to the public.
Marta S — Google review
Incredible views overlooking the water and the lands. Cool sitting area to stop and feel conquery inside after viewing the somber and elegant chapel.
Kevin M — Google review

The park features a diverse landscape of limestone mountain ridges, dramatic coastlines, and the imposing Arrabida mountain. Parque Natural de Arrabida, Arrábida Natural Park a protected area in Portugal. Founded in 1976, the park occupies covering the southernmost margin of the Setúbal Peninsula. One of the park's unique features is its carbonate geology mountain range, Serra da Arrábida: 501 metres. Three of the park's beaches-Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha-are popular among the inhabitants of Lisbon and Setúbal. Overlooking the three beaches is the Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida, a former monastery established in the 16th century, managed today by the Fundação Oriente.

Good place for walking with geat views over the coast and inland. Most of the paths we have taken so far are reasonable but some of the mapped routes online need some updating. there are wild boar around but we didn't " bump" into any. uber is cheap here so you can either do circular routes or get an user back if you start finish on a road as we did.
Chris W — Google review
Stunning views on the south side of Setúbal. This highway is one you want to swap drivers just so both people have a chance to look out into the ocean 😋. If you go in the evening it may be less busy.
Carina O — Google review
Fantastic beach. Bit of a steep walk to get to the ocean but was manageable with a 2yr old. Shame the restaurants at the front had no simple food options and both are 100% not suitable for children. Really let the place down. Had to leave and go elsewhere for lunch and dinner.

This Art Deco market hall features neat marble rows accommodating numerous vendors selling fruits, vegetables, dried goods, baked items, dairy products, meat, and seafood.
Best fish market I’ve ever been to. Quite an incredible experience!! It’s a must-go for any visitor to the city
Robert H — Google review
This open air fish and produce market (primarily) was an amazing experience. It was a definite example of sustainable living.
Jeri T — Google review
Excellent market with huge variety of fish & crustaceans as well as fruits & vegetables, meats, breads and cakes. Highly recommended for a lively experience of a market appreciated not only by tourists but more importantly by local residents.
Patrizia — Google review
Absolutely one of the best markets to visit. Incredible fresh fruit and vegetables, plus the the most fresh fishery to buy anything you desire. You can also enjoy some fresh oysters and drink wine while at the market.
Miguel C — Google review
I love a good open-air market, and while visiting Setúbal I stopped by to walk around theirs. It’s a large, lively market filled with local vegetables, organic products, butchers, fisheries, and a few restaurants tucked along the sides. It’s vibrant, full of color, and one of the best places to immerse yourself in fresh local produce and meet warm, friendly people. Definitely worth a visit — and you can’t miss the big pink building. Hard to miss!
Liliana S — Google review
Loved this market...didn't know what expect but pleasantly surprised..ended up walking up and down ...marvelling at the produce and deciding what to buy 🤔 loved the statues that tell the story of the market history... ( some videos have strobe effect)

Historical landmark
Praça de Bocage is a significant square in Setubal, featuring the statue of the poet, City Hall, and the Church of Sao Juliao. The church, originally built in the 13th century and reconstructed during King Manuel's reign, showcases remarkable Manueline-style portals. It has undergone various changes throughout history and now boasts three naves with a 17th-century tile panel depicting the life of Sao Juliao.
Lovely area, very beautiful and plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars, so something to suit whatever it is you're looking for. Or just a bench to sit and enjoy the view and watch life go by. Don't miss the cultural centre and the bar attached with very reasonable prices. And make sure you look up at the building when in the square to take in all they have to offer.
Natalie H — Google review
Very nice place to spend time and relax. There are trees near the fountain where you get good shadow during hot day. There are quite a few restaurants around this square. Also the small lanes that lead from this square has good amount of restaurants and gives a glimpse of history of this town.
Indrajit G — Google review
Nice place to relax in Setúbal! Praça de Bocage is a good spot to sit and enjoy the city. The cafés are affordable and everything is nearby shops, restaurants and the port. Sometimes there are musicians playing but they often repeat the same songs and aren’t always the best. Still, it’s a pleasant place for a coffee and people watching.
Iheb A — Google review
What a beautiful plaza. We were pleasantly surprised because the Lonely Planet guide we had barely mentioned Setúbal. I'm surprised it didn't mention how beautiful the plaza is. I think it's one of the prettiest we've seen so far in Portugal. Plenty of cafes around to sip coffee and people-watch.
Kathy D — Google review
A beautiful square in Setubal, with typical Portuguese streets lined with small restaurants and shops of all kinds. A pleasant atmosphere... especially a calm, charming town.

Albarquel is a large sandy beach in Setúbal, easily accessible from the city center. It's the first beach you'll encounter when entering Serra da Arrabida, featuring a vast expanse of golden sand and clear turquoise waters. While not considered one of the best beaches in the area, it offers a convenient location and beautiful views across the tranquil waters of the Sado estuary to the Troia Peninsula.
Very lovely and quite. There are a few peple and very decent. The mountain at the back makes it even more picturesque. Theere are shower which are clean and work well. You can also find a cute shop to get some drink.
Sanzida M — Google review
Must go to beach when in setubal, beautiful views, mostly clean water, warm water and great restaurants and bars. Lacking on the accessibility and parking, as you are not allowed to park there, only bikes. Romantic atmosphere clean and quite...
Saidur B — Google review
Great beach. Not very crowded.Plenty of parking spaces along the road. There is a bar, shower and locker room.Expect water to be cold as is the ocean. The sand is not fine, but its grains are round, pleasant to walk in.Very relaxing place.
Stefan R — Google review
Very nice beach. Peaceful. The only challenge is the parking. You will have to park on the street and go walking down the hill to the beach.
Ghassan S — Google review
Beautiful natural picturesque beach, cliffs and trees behind, lots of natural shady spots, calm sea, lots of fish, slightly warmer water due to it's proximity to Tróia, enclosing the water and keeping it a little warmer.. easy access, plenty of on road parking, numerous refreshments, areas with sun beds and sunshades for hire/rental, all in all a very nice spot..
MADCAT I — Google review
We loved it. It was quiet, good people, the little bar was opened to get cold drinks, the bathroom was clean, baywatch present on the beach. I highly recommend it. The restaurant on the beach it was closed and didn't seem to open in the near future.
Glodan M — Google review
Praia de Albarquel is a beautiful beach located close to Setúbal, with calm waters and a relaxed atmosphere. It is not very large, but it offers a peaceful environment that makes it ideal for families and people who want to enjoy a quiet day by the sea. The sand is clean, the water is clear, and the view of the Arrábida mountains in the background makes it a very picturesque spot. There are also some restaurants and cafés nearby, which makes it convenient to spend the whole day at the beach without needing to move far. It is a great option for those looking for a balance between nature and comfort, with easy access from the city.
Antonio B — Google review
Albarquel is a clean beach with quite fine sand. The access is easy, free parking. There are 2 beach bars where you can buy water and cold beer and there is a restaurant. To rent umbrellas and sun loungers there are 2 options. 1 umbrella+ 2 sun loungers = 20€ all day, from 9 to 19h. Besides WC and showers are available for free.

Praia Tróia Mar is a stunning beach located on the Troia Peninsula, just a ferry ride away from Setubal. This paradisiacal destination offers calm and transparent waters, soft white sands, and an 18km long coastline to explore. The microclimate of the area allows for enjoyable visits throughout the year, with plenty of activities to indulge in. Praia Tróia Mar is described as picturesque and family-friendly, offering miles of beautiful beaches to explore.
Gorgeous beach, super soft and fine sand and during low tide a shallow sand bar appears that you can walk/swim to! The ferry over runs very often as well.
Maggie L — Google review
The water is freezing and the sand scorching. It could have better infrastructure with more hammocks and sunshades. It was 41 degrees today which is unbearable for most people. On the good side, it has a beautiful deck leading to the beach and the marine is beautiful.
Guilherme F — Google review
Have died and gone to heaven. Was introduced to Troia by a tour guide when we visited the National Park Arrabida and I knew straight away Troia was where I was going to stay for my last 3 days in Portugal. The Troia Peninsula is very similar to the Whitsundays in Australia. The sand is soft and white, and being a sand snob I would rate it 9/10 and especially so when low tide you can walk across the vast sand banks out to the Atlantic. No seaweed and the water is calm, although freezing/refreshing. Troia sand, views and waters beat Albufeira, Carvoeiro - the Algarve in general by a long shot! It is even better than Cascais but equivalent to natural beauty Adraga. Adraga has waves for those wave catchers. Renting a shared lounge is expensive, €25 for the entire day. Well worth travelling out here, off the beaten track! Lifeguards are at every beach around Troia and they even help kids in wheelchairs to get from the boardwalk to the beach! Great service Troia Rescue. How to get here / heaven: 1) Bolt/Uber from Lisbon to Setubal wharf (Atlantic ferry) = €25-35 and can take 45-60mins. Train is about €10. 2) Passenger Return ferry or speed boat is €9-10 leaving every hour during weekdays and almost every 30mins on weekends. They allow dogs on the ferry! 3) There is also the option of driving your vehicle over via Atlantic Ferry as well. 4) Troia itself is quite small so you can walk everywhere with well designated footpaths and boardwalks. The supermarket is pretty good, has almost everything including roast chicken. Portuguese people are friendly and it felt safe
JJ C — Google review
Crystal clear water, easy to reach by Ferry from Setubal Atlantic ferries station that has a trip every hour. And then walk for 10 mins. There’s a small bar that has Beer, water, Cola, …etc close to the beach. There are Chaseloungs and Umbrellas. No shower rooms, only WC
Aziz T — Google review
If you’re looking for an unspoiled, peaceful beach far from the typical tourist crowds, Tróia Beach is a true gem. Located on the Tróia Peninsula, directly across the bay from Setúbal, this spot offers stunning views and a rare sense of calm – even in the heart of summer. The crystal-clear waters shimmer with shades of turquoise, and the long, sandy shoreline is perfect for barefoot walks, sunbathing, or simply listening to the waves. It’s a free beach, meaning no umbrellas, no beach bars – just pure, untouched nature. Even during peak season, you’ll often find yourself alone or with just a few others around. It truly feels like a deserted paradise. 🚗 How to get there: The most scenic and convenient way to reach Tróia is by ferry from Setúbal: The car and passenger ferry departs regularly from the Setúbal ferry terminal (Terminal Fluvial) and takes about 25 minutes to reach Tróia. Alternatively, you can take the passenger-only catamaran, which is slightly faster and perfect if you’re not bringing a car. Once you arrive, the beach is easy to access on foot or by bike. Some areas are completely wild, so it's a good idea to bring water, food, and everything you need for a relaxing day by the sea.
Marco C — Google review
Incredible beach— can’t say enough good things about it! My family and I absolutely adore it. We’ve been staying in Setúbal for the past week, and we’ve been visiting this beach almost every day. The beach takes a bit of work to get to, but it’s absolutely worth it. The ferry from Setúbal to Tróia is €26.40 for 3 people. It’s a 12-15 minute ride, and it’s a lovely experience. The views are gorgeous, and I’d recommend taking the 7:30 pm ferry back to Setúbal to catch the sunset. Once you arrive on the peninsula, you walk about 20-25 minutes along a wooden boardwalk to reach the beach. It’s a picturesque walk, and you get to pass a outdoor cat colony. The cats are so sweet, and they appear to be cared for by the locals. The beach is magnificent. There was a warm breeze every day we were there, which kept the flies away. The sand is so soft and sparkly and not too hot. For context, we are visiting in late September. The water is cold, but you can definitely acclimate. It’s so blue, clear, and clean. At low tide, there are amazing sand bars, and you can walk pretty far out. I was also able to collect some gorgeous shells. Finally, there are ample trash cans and a clean bathroom. This beach as everything I want in a beach. I truly adore it.
Shannon M — Google review
Best bathing beach we have found. The water is beautiful and clear and not even too cold

Lovely pit stop to the Blue House that is also tourist office. Was welcomed in and invited to visit the Dolphin Exhibition which was small but mighty and lots great information about Setubul Dolphins 🐬 and Ecological Systems.
Christine E — Google review
Nice tourist information centre with local wines shop, small museum about the local dolphins which we found very interesting, small cafe (most expensive and worst coffee and pastry I have had in Portugal yet, better to go to a local cafe) you can sit inside or outside, both are pretty. Small art exhibition too. Very classy tourist information I have ever been in. Nice to visit. Would not recommend the tourist train outside - audio didn’t work and it was a very bumpy ride! Also didn’t see great spots - better to just walk around yourself.
Mairi C — Google review
We had walked by this beautiful building many times and we finally stopped in. It is a collection of many things that were nice individually but they did not quite flow together. There is a dolphin museum, an art gallery, two fancy stores, and at least one restaurant. Everything was super nice, including the people that greeted us, but the Casa was simply not for us. Admission is free.

Very nice place to get advice, rest a while and visit the toilets if you need to. There is a shop selling local food stuff incl. wine, and t-shirts. There is also a small art exhibition for local artists.

It’s a beautiful and stylishly decorated place. Good wine choice from Setubal peninsular producers. To consume on-site is a bit pricey in Portuguese terms though. There is a lovely small museum, explaining on marine life of peninsular.

Museu de Setúbal / Convento de Jesus is a must-visit landmark in Setubal. The overall structure has been beautifully renovated, showcasing a stunning high choir with intricate woodwork and a remarkable collection of reliques and reliquaries. The museum also houses an exceptional Manueline church and cloister, constructed with the unique local stone called Brecha da Arrabida.
An underrated site. This building is one of the oldest examples of Manueline architecture in Portugal, older than Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, albeit a smaller convent it’s no less worth a visit.

Lovely museum. I listened to the English audio guide which was free with entry fee €3 each. A national treasure.

Spectacular. The overall structure has been very nicely renovated, but the real star is the high choir in the first floor, with beautiful wood work and a large collection of reliques and reliquaries in the form of busts. There is even a mummy of a young child with an interesting story behind it. Everything is well explained and the personnel is competent and attentive. Highly recommended visit when coming to Setúbal.

Built by Diogo de Boitaca, it is an early example of Portuguese Manueline style and features impressive cloisters and spiral columns made of Arrabida marble. Originally a convent for Poor Clare nuns, it represents significant moments in Portuguese architecture.
An outstanding collection of medieval and renaissance art in the heart of a busy port town. This is a very modern approach on museum curation, with plenty of multilingual texts to read and plenty of information to absorb. The highlight has to be the wonderful polyptych heavily influenced by the Flemish painters of the northern renaissance. Equally impressive is the church right next to the museum. A beautiful mix of styles and a set of columns that somehow find its way into Gaudi’s designs.

A fascinating church and upper choirs! For visiting the upper choirs you need to go into the museum; the church has an entrance from the side of the building and seems to be open at different times than the museum. I recommend to read a small booklet which is available on the upper choirs entrance to understand this gem better. I also found a mummy thanks to this booklet. Soon the museum will be fully open, right now the part of it is under renovation. But the museum and the church are worth visit anyway and now it is free of charge. Also nice people work there. Thank you for preserving this place!

Palmela's Castle is a medieval hilltop complex featuring a church, museum, and hotel, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The castle was once the headquarters of the Military Order of Saint James of the Sword for five centuries. Visitors can explore the picturesque historic center with its narrow medieval streets and serene atmosphere.
A lovely spot to escape the city, with free entry and parking. You can get here by bus, car, or even on foot if you’re nearby. The limit of how far you can see, of course, depends on your vision.

Magnificent historical site with amazing views! No fees, no waits, free parking! Enjoy the amenities in the luxury hotel located inside the castle or in the sorrounding Palmela village, historical sites, wineries, and delicious food.

To a Brit, it’s always surprising how crumbling castles are left to roam in Portugal (whereas they’d all be roped off with health-and-safety signs back home). There’s not much to see of the interior, but it’s very pleasant to be able to wander round the intact walls and ruins, and you get some lovely views of Palmela from the top.

A gem of a site to check out. I hear it is not that busy here most times. If you love the ancient ruins and history this is a place worth going to. Some very nice vantage points for some great pictures.

Praia da Figueirinha is a family-friendly beach located in the Serra da Arrabida National Park, offering shallow waters and stunning views of the Arrábida Hills. It is a popular spot for families, with facilities catering to children and clear, shallow waters perfect for swimming. The beach is known for its expansive stretch of fine sand and offers amenities such as toilets, lifeguard services, restaurants, and bars.
Out of the summer season it is pure joy and bliss, in the summer it is difficult to get a parking space, so either bike, or buses, but it get too crowded and parasols/ ombrelones are 20 euros per day, out of summer it is adorable 😍

Absolutely stunning beach with a wonderful view!! Warm water, beautiful sand, and small waves. Perfect place if you wanna swim all day. If you are coming from Lisboa, you can either take a train or bus to come to Setúbal, and from the center you can take another bus which will leave you literally in front of the beach, it’s very accessible in this way. One minus point is that the bus was packed with others, it can be an uncomfortable experience if they’re considerate people around themselves given that bus needs keep turning around the way.
Ekin — Google review
Beautiful beach with some parking around and a bus stop. Has some drink stands and a cafe with bathrooms. Wide beach with a sandbar that was exposed at low tide. Water was cool but about the warmest I have felt yet in Portugal. Overall, beautiful!
Larry W — Google review
If you like to spend a day on a beach packed like canned sardine, it’s perfect for you. The water is clear and calm so it’s nice for swimming, especially for families, but it’s too crowded. You can rent a pair of sun-chairs and an umbrella for 20€, but big families rent just a pair and put blankets in between. Hard to park, Uber from Lissabon is from 34€ and we got scammed (the driver marked he was there but he wasn’t).
Vanessa — Google review
one of the nicest beaches if you don’t wanna move too far from setúbal. there’s a bus you can take literally from anywhere in the city and it drops you footsteps away from the beach. amazing. that said: it’s so easy to get there that there’s always lots of people. but the sand is almost white, the water is really clear and with beautiful color and there’s no waves, almost like a really cold (atlantic ocean 🙃) pool. it’s worth going 🙌🏼

Nature preserve
The Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado, established in 1980, is a wetland nature reserve located east of Setubal City along the Sado River. The 23-hectare wildlife park offers hiking trails and is home to a diverse array of bird species, with around 220 recorded so far.
Really nice walks in this area. Quiet and peaceful. Great for dog walking. You can see traditional old buildings and it's nice to walk along the river.
Chris N — Google review
This is a beautiful space to go for a walk. The estuary has a few birds to spot just waking around. But probably best to book a boat tour at high tide to be able really explore the area. We didn't want to be there that long. We saw a few storks and silts.

Beautiful and quiet park. A lot of fwd flamingos. No tickets needed. If you are in the area I really recommend stopping for a little.

Free, emergency assistance/ care for injured birds of Setúbal area. We found an injured sea bird (Turn?) in PUA and delivered it to this organisation. This is part of Instituto de Conservação da Natureza. Blue and white building tucked away. Thank god they were open! It is good advice to have a towel or small box always in your car! Thank you, I hope he recovers!
Tania M — Google review
When we stopped by, it was rather misty (mid Sep). We stopped the car on the side of the road and went up the hill to have a peak at the estuary. What a beautiful landscape. We walked a little bit making sure not to damage plants. We were hoping to see any special birds, but we didn't. We stayed quiet high up as we thought the lower part could be quite swampy. Overall, a beautiful place, peaceful but not a place to stay longer than 30 mins. The other side of the road was also beautiful but we didn't go there. That would have led us to a beach (if any) on the western coast of the peninsula.
W V — Google review
If you like birdwatching you should consider visiting this place and see storks, herons, ibises, egrets, flamingos, bee-eaters and many other spieces. If you like sightseeing, you surely love to visit this place in June and see the rice fields showing beautiful green colours.

Restaurante De Pedra e Sal Hostel & Suites is a unique establishment in the heart of Setubal, offering both a restaurant and hostel experience. The beautifully restored building exudes character and charm, providing a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. One of its standout dishes is the bife na pedra, a sizzling beef steak served on a hot stone, allowing diners to cook it to their preference at the table.
Fabulous dining experience! We stumbled into the restaurant one evening and ended up enjoying every aspect of our time here. Our server was attentive without hovering and provided helpful guidance. Each of the 3 of us ordered something different (flank steak, tuna, pork cheeks), and every item was absolutely delicious. Even the house wine was top-notch (but of course, it's Portugal). The room was quiet (we were the only party) yet inviting. I would definitely return here when I'm in Setúbal and highly recommend it.
Stace H — Google review
Great service, awful food. I really don’t understand the great reviews. If you are a steak lover, order something else. We were sold on the “salt boards”. Steak was completely bland, basically is suppose to get its flavor from the cut and a bit of salt flavor from the salt board. Meat was incredibly chewy, visible sinew throughout the entire cut (either a horrible butcher or sous chef to allow that to even happen). Venue was cool, but ate inside because of heat, open kitchen was very cool to see. Waiter and manager were both very nice. Sides were very tasty as was the sangria. It was the meat, the meat was a complete disaster. Seasoning goes a long way, as does a decent butcher!
Wendy L — Google review
Great location, but the food is not so good. Meat seamed to me like it was frozen several times. Desert - if you’ll buy the same cream brûlée at supermarket- probably it would be better. The price of a good restaurant, but in fact food is like in canteen.
Felix F — Google review
I can only speak about the food and only good things. The main courses are very well prepared and tasty, and the desserts are just the cherry on top.
Daniel C — Google review
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. They forgot our order entirely, and after a long wait we had to chase it up ourselves. When the food finally arrived, it was badly cooked and far too salty to eat. To top it off, our waiter stood at a table near us loudly complaining to other customers about not having enough staff, instead of focusing on the service. Truly unprofessional and disappointing — we will not be coming back.
Elyess E — Google review
If there is negative ratiing i will give them negative 3 and that is even me being generous. I don’t usually leave a comment but this restaurant is worst. They forgot our order, waited for more than 1hour and the other waiter who didnt took our order informed us they forgot our order. I have to say ORDER 3 times did i??? Bad experience in Setubal. Prices didn’t Match the service and food. The cuttlefish i ordered came very salty and so hard like Rubber. This is an honest unbiased review. Crap waiters worst food and please don’t go here. Even their Rose wine is low-quality. Don’t be fooled with the ambiance. Rude and Feeling entitled. NEVER AGAIN.
Harriette — Google review

Nestled along the picturesque waterfront of Setúbal, Xtoria is a culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional Portuguese flavors with modern flair. Since its inception in 2019, this award-winning restaurant has captivated diners with its innovative take on local cuisine. A standout dish is their expertly crafted cuttlefish, enhanced by ponzu sauce and accompanied by black potato and sriracha mayonnaise—truly a feast for the senses!
Beautiful experience dining here for the first time - starting from the vibe when you enter through the very end. The restaurant is uniquely decorated, with a very warm team enhancing every part of the meal. The dishes we ordered were delicious and beautifully plated, with creative flavors and ingredients. Our server, Prince, was outstanding. Knowledgeable, very warm, and worth returning again!
Diana M — Google review
I was looking forward to our dinner at Xtoria after reading the reviews and realizing that it has a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. The menu looked very interesting as well. I made sure to make a reservation a week before our arrival to Setúbal. The service was friendly so we thought we were off to a good start until we received the first dish. There was nothing anyone particularly liked, everything was so bland. The taste (or the lack thereof) was in high contrast with the elaborate description in the menu and the nice plating. I enjoyed the tiger prawn in my dish but that was about it. I had to apologize to my partner and our friends since I was the one who picked this restaurant. We did not even want to order any desserts. It is very unfortunate because the vision is there but the execution fell really short. I am giving 2 stars due to our high expectations set by the Michelin selection.
Sila A — Google review
I would give 6 stars plus the Michelin. Starting from the reservation via phone, the lady was so nice telling me she only had a table close to the door (but still nice) since was a last minute booking. All the personnel speak English and could explain in details all the food coming from the tasting menu (5 courses/60€). I really suggest to try it, and their local wines. If you add to a delicious food also courtesy and an elegant but familiar contest, you have this restaurant. Can’t wait to try the octopus! Thank you, Martina

Tender and tasty choco, ovos rotos with grilled peppers, a great pica pau with crunchy pickles and an amazing chestnut autumn cake! We visited in May and at that time it was quiet and peaceful, not too many people. In low tide is possible to walk all the way down passing the rocks. Although parking isn't easy but is well worth the visit. Highly recommended.

Beautiful beach. Very clear water, where you can see lots of fish. There is a rocky area but that is a very small part in the corner of the beach. The beach is very clean and clear, full of beautiful crystal clear water. I highly recommend

Fantastic beach with great spots for snorkling. Bit tricky to find parking sp be early to ensure a space. Driving here will give you some spectacular views

Breathtaking place. Super crystal water, rather cool, but perfect to cool down. There are several restaurants, rent activities. Water and Mountain View the most perfect nature combination!

Beautiful beach 1 hour drive from Lisbon, not suitable to go there by public transport. Best to go there early. Parking is available for 5€ for the entire day. There is a section at the beach with lounge chairs but the majority is opened for umbrellas and towels. The ocean is clean and the water is very calm, suitable for children.

One of the most superb views in Portugal with a wide panoramic view over the River Sado and the sea and mountain of Arr]abida. When visiting the beach, it is almost impossible to park. There is a cement works 12 km before arriving where you can leave your car

Praia do Creiro, also known as Portinho da Arrabida, is a popular destination offering a mix of beach relaxation and nearby archaeological exploration. The area features an ancient Roman industrial complex for salt fishing production. Access to the beach can be limited, with traffic restrictions in place from Praia da Figueirinha side. Visitors may need to take a bus or navigate limited parking options. The beach itself is described as secluded and otherworldly, surrounded by picturesque mountains.
Very beautiful beach, you'd think you were on the Mediterranean. The sea is much calmer here and therefore the beach is also ideal with small children. The access to the beach is quite easy, at the point where the road is closed you can simply drive down to the right to park (5€ a day), from this car park you then walk another 5 minutes to the beach (easy path also possible with prams). If the car park is overcrowded, you can also park in the street (free of charge), but then the walk is of course longer (but there were 2 TukTuks on site to take people down to the beach (3€ per person). There are also places to eat on the beach (snack bars) and sunbeds are also available. The right part of the beach is reserved for sunbeds and the left part is a normal beach without sunbeds (nicer part of the beach). At the end of the left-hand section of the beach there are larger stones/rocks between which you can walk and you come to other small sections of beach, definitely recommended.

Beautiful beach, car parking is not large enough to accommodate all cars in the summer. There are buses serving the beach

really nice beach. accessible by user and a bus. Plenty of things to do, cannoes, paddle boards, paddle boats with slides. great views and ample beach chairs if you want them. A few places to eat one of which we will try later. its a nice day out!

Unfreaking believable. This beach is just so beautiful and ideal for families with small kids. Loads to do, and the drive is so scenic. If you want parking, get there no later than 8h30. otherwise, you park far from the beach. But amazing!

I had a truly peaceful day at Praia do Creiro and it quickly became one of my favorite coastal spots near Sesimbra. The beach is tucked between dramatic cliffs on the Alentejo coast, giving it a sense of secluded charm and natural beauty. The sand is golden and soft, and the water is clear and inviting, ideal for swimming or snorkeling. There are a few seasonal kiosks offering drinks and snacks which are reasonably priced and add to the relaxed atmosphere. The parking is free and the area is well maintained, though during peak summer weekends it can get a bit crowded. I enjoyed taking a long walk along the shore and dipping into the calm waters, then treating myself to a cold drink at one of the kiosks afterward. Praia do Creiro is affordable, accessible, and perfect for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy a quiet, beautiful beach with a touch of natural elegance.
Antonio B — Google review
Really nice beach with good services. Note: just park on the side of the road and wave down one of the many drivers that will offer to drive you down there. €10 for the ride. Portinho beach is right next door and Portinho is a very cute little village with good restaurants.

Such a beautiful beach!! You can take a bus from the center of Setubal and easily walk down from the bus stop. Be mindful of the bus schedule because it doesn’t go as often.
Ekin — Google review
I went yesterday and we found a lot of traffic to arrive there. However, although we arrived around 13h, we found parking spaces, you need to pay 5 euros. I am pregnant and my husband was allowed to bring me and my toddler totally down the road before parking. So i didn’t have to walk the hill, same for picking up. The place was calm and nice, really clean. We enjoyed a lot

Jardim Engenheiro Luis da Fonseca, also known as Jardim da Beira Mar, is a beautiful and historic park in Setubal. It offers an incredible view of the Rio Sado and features a few outdoor cafes where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. One of the popular spots within the park is MXL Caffe, a glass-walled cafe with ambient music played by their resident DJ.
Jardim Engenheiro Luís da Fonseca, situated in Setúbal, Portugal, is a charming riverside park that offers visitors a serene escape with panoramic views of the Sado River and the distant Serra da Arrábida. The park is adorned with lush greenery, including a variety of trees and sculptures, creating a tranquil environment for relaxation and leisurely walks. One of the park’s notable features is the Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cais, a sanctuary dedicated to the patroness of fishermen. This monument, inaugurated in 1953, stands as a testament to the gratitude of the local fishing community. Visitors can appreciate the historical and cultural significance of this site while enjoying the scenic surroundings. The Jardim Engenheiro Luís da Fonseca is also equipped with amenities such as a playground, making it suitable for families. Its proximity to the river enhances its appeal, offering a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Overall, this garden provides a delightful blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and recreational facilities, making it a worthwhile destination for both locals and tourists exploring the Setúbal region.
BSN — Google review
Nice place opposite the sea Unfortunately it was not well maintained with a lots of garbage 🗑 full
Said خ — Google review
The park is located right in front of the river, very close to the access to catamaran boats that can transport you to the other side, where you can visit Tróia. In one of its sides, you can also visit a seafood restaurant. Usually the place has lots of people fishing as well. Despite the good location and views, unfortunately the place is very degradated with the grass very dry and usually dirt (despite the presence of garbage bins). If it wasn't for that, it would be a nice place for picnics. In the park there's also an abandoned facility that used to be a nice café - now it's just a dirt and broken monolith of concrete and glass. You can also find a playground for kids in there, which unfortunately doesn't have any shadow to protect them from the Sun. Overall, a nice place to pass by.

One of my favourite beaches near Setúbal, clean water, soft sand and beautiful views. When visting i highly recommend this place, make sure you go early in the morning to catch a seat on the bus 4470 or take the uber.

We were unable to find the direct track from the road down to the beach so instead walked along from the nearby beach at low tide. Had the beach to ourselves (april) which made it wonderful. Apparently this beach was voted the number one in Europe in 2017. It was nice but I have been on nicer beaches.

This is the most beautiful beach I’ve been to! The water is clear and fresh. The beach was not touristy at all! The sun really hits there but the wind makes it feel a bit colder than it actually is - wear sunscreen all the time! My friend and i did book a kayak tour (it’s on getyourguide!!) and it was fantastic! This beach is everything to me ❤️
Milla F — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches I have been too. Water was clear and calm during early July afternoon. We spot some fish/es as well. It was not too crowded and very pretty. If you are more than 3 or 4 people, best to rent a car to go there. The public transport was not working when I went there. There are stairs to go down to the beach but you can also do a small "hike" trail. Love this place.
Riju J — Google review
Beautiful beach, can be a long walk because there are so many people parking down the road it can be very difficult to get any parking - I would recommend the free shuttle bus. The water was crystal clear and lovely to swim in.

very pretty beach but quite a walk to get to. part of the beach gets cut off at high tide so be careful. only one place to eat so book early. a couple of loos at the restraint but none at the other end of the beach.

It’s a little hard to get there in the summer thanks to the convoluted road restrictions and lack of information about parking and access, but worth persevering to get here. It’s a really nice bay, with very gentle sea and shallow waves (so no body boarding or surfing). All generally very clean thanks to some hard-working litter pickers

We went here yesterday and the beach is amazing. Unfortunately the police closed the road and the bus service wasn’t running. We got a tuktuk and was charged 10 euro per person (one way). In love with this beach! The views are gorgeous, the water is crystal clear, and it’s easily accessible from Lisbon. During summer, they run a daily and frequent bus service from the Setúbal train station that stops right above the beach. In total it’s around 1hr 40mins from Lisbon, but it’s absolutely worth it once you get to experience this small slice of paradise. There’s a bar/restaurant with affordable drinks and tasty seafood, plus there’s showers and toilets. If you’re looking for maximum comfort, it’s also possible to rent beach chairs under an umbrella.

Entrance is free! A fantastic place to be face-to-face with ancient artifacts. You can see and run your fingers in the grooves of stone menirs from the Neolithic times and marble tombstones from Roman era (one tombstone of a 9-year-old roman slave girl, translated to "May the Earth Be Light On You"). Lots of artifacts from the ancient history of the Setúbal area, going back to the Stone Age, Neolithic, Copper, Bronze, Iron...Roman, Moors, .etc. I found the roman fine dinner ware and glasses interesting, hard to imagine how they made such intricate things. The gallery is housed in the historic building of the Bank of Portugal and showcases various collections, including a set of 14 oil paintings attributed to Jorge Afonso's workshop and one of the three existing versions of Ecce Homo in Portugal.
(Translated by Google) The highlight of the gallery is undoubtedly the altarpiece of the church of Jesus, a set of 14 oil paintings from the early 16th century attributed to the workshop of Jorge Afonso. The courtyard is decorated with tiled ashlars, while the hall and the office are decorated with blue and white tiles. Also noteworthy are the coffered ceilings, decorated with stylized phytomorphic motifs and a painting on the vault with scenes alluding to the patron saint of the house, São Pedro Gonçalves Telmo (or Santelmo), protector of fishermen. Mourisca Water Mill is a picturesque spot that's perfect for capturing Instagram-worthy photos. It's one of the four remaining mills in the Sado Estuary, surrounded by saltmarsh and salterns. The area also features remnants of old boats and a stilt harbor, adding to its charm. Nearby, you can savor delicious local honey from the gardens of Convento da Arrabida, a former monastery.
Came here on the gastronomic festivity of the same name. Given it doubles as a religious ceremony, we arrived just as mass was undergoing so it was a bit head to get in but nothing irregular when festivities occur here. Food was served by the various sports and religious associations, restaurant/tapas style, and since it was still mass it still took around 150-30 minutes to get the food ready to serve which is very much understandable. Weather was also pretty mild lower them the usual 38ish°C (26°C at noon) and made it a rather enjoyable time. All in all festivities make this otherwise calm nature reserve a small hustle and bustle of mostly old people and booze one can easily get in if you know any of them, otherwise you're mostly here for the food at lunch and dinner and or some artist you like or association you support, otherwise you're not gonna enjoy it.

Nice place transformed in a small museum to preserve the memory of its past, when it was important in mowing cereals by the use of tides flow… there is also a small cafe, with ideal atmosphere for a short rest stop! Overall highly recommended!

Birdwatching paradise in the Sado River estuary. When the tide goes out the wetlands become muddy with trapped fish that the birds feast on. The highlight is the wild flamingos. The Milho de maré is preserved skewing how they used the riding tide streets to turn the grist mill to grind grain. Nice coffeehouse.

Praia dos Coelhos is a picturesque beach in the greater Lisbon area that boasts native vegetation and rock formations. Although somewhat isolated, it can be reached within an hour's drive from Lisbon or Setubal. While there are no amenities such as restrooms or restaurants available, visitors will still enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and clear, cold waters of this secluded bay.
To get to the beach you need to leave your car in the parking lot near the path. Parking in June 2024 cost €5 for the whole day. The descent to the beach takes place along the green trail on Google Maps, about 15 minutes down, don't stray from the path or you will reach another beach, there are plenty of paths in this place. Coelhos Beach with its white sand is wonderful!
Konrad — Google review
Absolutely in love with this beach. Small and cosy, without any facilities and crowds, only you and the nature. The road to the beach is a little bit demanding but definitely worth it. The best time is early in the morning or after 3m because it’s only one road to this and several beaches around and if the road starts to get crowded police block it. We came around 3pm and the road was blocked, I approached them and asked when they will release the road and they say one hour minimum. We parked and start to think what shall we do and in that 20 minutes while we were thinking 10 cars went out and police let us and couple of more parked cars, we were so lucky.
Milan V — Google review
Not difficult to get there, but you need to be able to walk on rocky terrain for 15 minutes, I guess that's why when we arrived it was just 3 other couples (during a weekday). The water is clean and the imagery makes you think you're in the Mediterranean sea
Radu-Bogdan C — Google review
This was definitely our favorite beach in the greater area of Lisbon. Takes about an hour from Lisbon by car and it’s definitely worth the trip! Even though it’s quite a climb to get there from the street because it’s a hidden beach, it’s more than worth it. You will have an almost private beach with white, soft sand. Great small bay when you are looking for a calm day at the beach without the typical touristic feeling.

Stunning beach in the Arrabida national park, somewhat secluded but still not incredibly difficult to get to from Lisbon and Setubal. Note no restrooms, restaurants, services etc. This is a pure sandy beach with crystal clear cold water.

Perhaps with everything arranged as he would have done at the time and the materials he used, his office, the room where he entertained guests, etc. (as if it were really a visit to his home). Instead, the museum is contained in a small room and has a chronology (printed on cardboard) with some of the most important events in the poet's life and time. It is a very quick and cheap visit, but I would say it is not really worth it. Maybe just to go once. Em vez disso o museu está contido numa pequena divisão e tem uma cronologia (impressa em cartolinas) com alguns dos eventos mais importantes da vida e da época do poeta. Unfortunately, the presentation of extracts from the poems is limited. Nevertheless, Américo Ribeiro's collection of photographs, depicting old Setubal upstairs, is captivating. One detail to note is that everything is presented in Portuguese only, which could be a deterrent for foreign visitors. Audio guides in several languages, like what the Michel Giacometti Work Museum offers, could make the experience more accessible and enriching for a wider audience. The reception staff are warm, friendly and this adds a very pleasant touch to the visit. (Translated by Google) Historic place, there's little to see, just ruins with almost nothing left, but for those who like Roman history, it's another place to visit right next to the beach. (Original) Lugar histórico, pouca coisa que ver são ruínas já quase sem nada, mas para quem gosta deste de história romana é mais um lugar a visitar mesmo do lado da praia

Sculpture
The Estátua de Bocage is a tribute to Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage, a renowned poet born in Setubal. The statue, created by Silva Carvalho in 1929, stands in the heart of Setubal's main square, surrounded by bustling commerce and quaint cafes. This picturesque square is an ideal spot for socializing with friends while enjoying the beauty of the area.
This place has been improved over the years. So much so that it has turned a meeting spot.
