The entranceway of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, located in the courtyard, leads to a unique Christian Church in Ukraine. This architectural ensemble includes a minaret adorned with a sculpture of the Holy Virgin, representing an intriguing blend of Muslim and Christian elements. The cathedral exudes tranquility and a pleasant ambiance, embodying its rich historical significance. With its grandeur and European style reminiscent of Italy, this monumental attraction is definitely worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) ⛪️ Cathedral Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Kamianets-Podilsky I came here for the first time for an organ music concert - and, honestly, it was one of those impressions that lingers in the echo for a long time. The music is alive, deep, with walls that seem to breathe together with the organ. Admission is free, donations are at your discretion, and this adds even more warmth to the atmosphere. The rector is a man of incredible empathy: attentive, without arrogance, without religious pressure. His speeches are more about meaning than about ritual. The only thing is that there are short sermons between each composition, so the concert lasts longer than you expect (about two hours), but even that has its own rhythm. Architecture is a separate story. This church is one of the oldest in the city, built back in the 15th century. Its real highlight is the minaret with the figure of the Virgin Mary on top, a unique symbol of the coexistence of Christian and Muslim cultures in Kamianets. And from the courtyard there is an incredible view of the canyon - one of those where even the stones seem to speak. A place where faith, history and music sound in unison.

Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle, located in the picturesque and historic city of Kamianets-Podilskyi in western Ukraine, is a must-see for travel enthusiasts. Dating back to the 1300s, this walled castle boasts 7 well-preserved original fortification towers out of the 12.
The Kamianrts-Podilskyi stronghold protects the old town, or rather, the Turkish bridge – isthmus between the fort and the town! Later, in the 18th century, The fortress was used as a military prison, and later, as a jail. Now it's just a historical monument. There are some interesting places such as museums, well, the tower where Ustim Karmaliuk was held captive, and even torture chamber!.. Etc.

The place is well refurbished and has a lot of touristic attractions, however they kinda disregarded the authenticity. Nevertheless it’s still serves well as an sort of amusement park. Good for kind, and families. Have some quick bites options and small shops, workshops, and museums.

The Dominican Monastery, located in the Old Town of Kamianets-Podilskyi, is a prominent religious structure dating back to the 15th century. Its red and white-colored facade and crumbling towers make it easily recognizable. The complex includes buildings from the 14th century and suffered damage over time. Despite ongoing renovations, the church remains operational, adding to the city's historical atmosphere. Visitors find its all-white interior intriguing, while its nighttime illumination adds to its impressive presence.
Very authentic looking monastery. Would be nice if it were open. We came on a Sunday but perhaps due to quarantine it was closed. There are constructions works being done, so that’s good news because it really looks like it’s in need of conserving. Beautiful architecture.

(Translated by Google) In my opinion, this is the most beautiful temple in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi. There is something so mysterious about it that sticks and every time I visit the city, I go to this church. The history of the church dates back to 1370, when a wooden building was erected, which stood at the highest point of the old town, about 50 years later it was completely burned down. Later, a stone temple and monastery were built here. The Dominican monastery is an architectural monument of the 15th-18th centuries. From the previous structure in the Gothic style of the 15th century, almost nothing survived, because the complex was destroyed and rebuilt during the following centuries from the 16th to the 18th. During the rule of the Turks (1672-1699), the church was transformed into a mosque. Substantial reconstructions of the complex took place after the liberation of Kamianets-Podilskyi from the Turks, then the reconstruction was supervised by the military engineer and architect Jan de Witte. During this time, the second floor above the cells of the monastery was built, the baroque bell tower was rebuilt - one of the towering landmarks of the historical part of the city. Representatives of the Potocki family made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of the church and now you can see their coat of arms on its facade. Below it is the coat of arms of the Dominicans in the form of a dog with a torch. The Dominicans called themselves "God's dogs." During the Soviet rule, the Catholic Church suffered a decline. At different times, there were: a seminary, an art school, a library, a museum, an archive, a warehouse of building materials. But thanks to the efforts of local believers, the church was restored again, and in 1999, the first service was held here after a long break.

But I was most impressed by the supervisor, Mr. Oleksandr, who conducted the tour. His attentiveness to the temple, deep knowledge and true Christian love for the church really gave us the feeling that we were in a holy place. I advise you to come in and stay here for at least 15 minutes, in order to acquire and be filled with bright thoughts. We would like to wish the church to be rebuilt as soon as possible, to install the dream organ and preserve this beauty for posterity. Thank you. The Polish Gate is a fascinating historical site that has seen a rich tapestry of cultures, from Ukrainians to Poles, Turks, and Russians. Each conqueror left their mark by adding towers, bridges, and fortifications—some even transformed it into a mosque at one point. In addition, two locks were built into them. Oak gates were lowered on strong chains, reached the bottom of the reservoir and acted like a dam. The Russian Gate, which rose on the southeastern side of the canyon, was built using the same principle. When the enemies intended to get into the city through the Lower Gate, the guards lowered the floodgates and the canyon quickly filled with water, which brought death to the invaders. (Translated by Google) The buildings have only partially survived. And now, unfortunately, they are in disrepair. In 1967, excavations were carried out, followed by restoration work. Now, as I understand it, these are two towers - a gate tower and a rock tower, as well as a barbican. There is another tower on the other side. Before you go look, it’s worth reading about this gate on Google, there is a very interesting article with photos and a plan, called: Polish Gate. The northern part of the defensive hydraulic system of Kamenets fortifications. 15-16 centuries The Lower Polish Gate formed part of the unique hydraulic fortification system of Kamenets. With the help of the locks that were on the Polish Gate, as well as on the Russian Gate, the defenders of the city could block the flow of the Smotrich River and quickly flood the area, which significantly complicated the capture of the city. We went down to the remains of the gate from the road that passes behind the Catholic Cathedral of Peter and Paul (a cathedral with a minaret-tower). It’s a pity that guides almost never take tourists here. It is necessary that the state pay more attention to the protection of this monument.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Kamianets-Podilskyi, the Castle Bridge serves as a vital link between the historic Castle and the charming Old Town. This ancient stone bridge is not just a means of crossing; it offers breathtaking views of the stunning Smotrytsky canyon, where lush forests and quaint homes nestle below.
Beautiful during the day and night time. Amazing view point.

On the North side you can see people fishing below, and of course the cathedral. On the south you can see a forested area and the eyesore of a hotel that seeks to ruin every good shot of the castle.

Inside, visitors can explore two museums: the Money Museum and World Crown Museum. The former features a chronological display of coins and banknotes from various countries along with a hall dedicated to the history of Magdeburg Law.

The stone building was built in the 30-40s of the 14th century. The construction of the town hall was a consequence of the granting of Magdeburg rights to the city, first by the princes Koriatovich, and then by the Polish crown. Later in 1754 the town hall was rebuilt. Adjacent to it is a rectangular clock tower, where two bells were installed in 1756, and in 1884 a mechanical clock that still works today. Under the town hall there are dungeons connected to the Dominican and Franciscan churches. At the moment, the Town Hall houses a cafe and a museum. Ruthenian Gate, located in Kamianets-Podilskyi, is a unique 15th-16th-century defense and hydrotechnical complex situated in the canyon of the Smotrych River. The Russian and Polish gates operated by blocking locks successively, flooding the canyon with water to deter enemies from approaching the city.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Orthodox Church, known as the Church of St. George, is exceptionally vibrant and striking with its blood-red exterior and heavenly azure sky backdrop. Its presence is easily noticeable from every corner of the city, captivating all who lay eyes upon it. From this sacred place, one can admire a picturesque panorama that encompasses the serene Polish countryside, charming farms, and the expansive New Plan that unfolds before them. The Church of St.
(Translated by Google) St. George's Cathedral is an Orthodox (until 1795, Greek-Catholic) church in Kamianets-Podilskyi on the Polish Filwarki. In 1993-2011, it was the cathedral of the Kamianets-Podilskyi diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). The church was built according to the standard designs recommended in the second half of the 19th century for widespread use within the Russian Empire. Such projects were called stylistic imitations of ancient Russian architecture. The monument is a typical example of the so-called "pseudo-Russian style" in Russian architecture of the 19th century. The church building is stone, square in plan, four-columned with one semicircular apse and three vestibules (north, south and west). Four columns with the help of arches support a tall light octagonal drum with a bathhouse. The angular divisions of the cubic volume are crowned on the outside with octagonal tent tops, which create a characteristic five-headed silhouette of the building. By type, St. George's Church is an imitation of the Russian tent temple architecture. The facades are decorated in the "pseudo-Russian style" with the use of pincer ends, kokoshniks, semi-columns with perspective arches on profiled imposts. High tent roofs are decorated with dormers. The bell tower above the gate is located to the west of the church. Its place in the ensemble and composition — two eights on a four — are dictated by the traditions of Russian Orthodox architecture. The decoration of the facades is made in accordance with the architectural decor of the church.

(Translated by Google) Church of St. St. George's Church in Polish Filvarky was built in 1851-1861 next to an older, wooden church. The bell tower was built in 1863. According to the architectural decision, the temple gravitates towards the imperial (Moscow) models, since at that time in the Russian Empire temples were built according to the projects approved by the synodal commission. Yukhym Sichinsky calls the architectural style pseudo-Russian. I still haven't had the chance to see the interior, we learn from the literature that before the 50th anniversary of the church, part of it was painted by the well-known Podil artist Dmytro Zhudin, but these paintings have not been preserved. For me personally, the church is important because in 1903-1917 my great-grandmother's brother-in-law, Fr. Yosyp Sulkovskyi, and his great-grandmother's eldest sons Volodymyr and Vadim (perhaps also George) Svidzinsky lived with him during his studies at the seminary.

Despite some feedback about improving its attractiveness for tourists and locals, it's praised as a cozy place with various seating areas and scenic spots. Overall, it's described as a well-developed park in this small town, offering tranquility and natural beauty.
That's a very beautiful place!

Paths are poorly maintained. Plaza is being slowly repaired. Old brick structures decaying in park. Fallen trees left to rot. Two new buildings left partially completed. Update: repairs keep coming, but slowly. new brick pavers in plaza allow rollerblading now. reviews that call this park beautiful must seldom travel.

Nestled in the heart of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Holy Trinity Church stands as a captivating blend of history and architecture. Although it may appear to be an ancient structure, this church was actually constructed in 2010, designed to echo the historical significance of earlier places of worship believed to have existed on this site since the 12th or 13th century. Its stunning baroque facade draws visitors from near and far, making it a popular spot for tourists exploring the Old Town.
Nice view from the road, in perfect combination with the history of the city.

(Translated by Google) The first written mention of the church dates back to 1582, in connection with the transfer of her estate to the Trinity Church by the burgess Gapka Tabkova. During the rule of the Turks in the city, the temple was transformed into a mosque. At the beginning of the 18th century with the withdrawal of the Turks from Kamianets and the establishment of Polish rule, the temple was handed over to the Greek Catholics. In 1722, Bishop Athanasius Sheptytsky handed over the temple to the monks of the Order of St. Basil, who founded a monastery with him. May 22, 1722 is considered the official date of foundation. The Basilian Order operated at the temple until 1795. During the II partition of Poland, the lands of Kamianechchyna were included in Russia. At the same time, the church was rededicated into an Orthodox church. In 1935, as part of the Soviet government's struggle with religion, the temple was dismantled. March 3, 1995 the restoration of the temple began. Excavations and studies of the foundations of the temple were carried out. September 23, 1996 Lubomyr Huzar founded the monastery. Br. was appointed as the first rector. Davyd Kulynych, a native of Basil. From September 1, 2005 Fr. was appointed the abbot of the monastery. Joseph Buday. In five years, the Basilians completely finished the reconstruction of the building and decoration of the temple and the surrounding area.

(Translated by Google) Attention, fake! 🔥 Or a cue, if that's the term you like better. But in any case, it is worth knowing that this church of the Holy Trinity, which looks as if it has passed through the ages, is a new building of 2010, which does not even correspond to any of the historical outlines of the church. 🙁 And there were many outlines and the place, as they say, was painted. Because there are hypotheses that the first wooden temple was built here in the 12th-13th centuries. Written references to stone buildings can be found in documents of the 14th-16th centuries. and even evidence that the church had cathedral status (that is, it was the main temple of the city). At one time, Greek Catholics, Orthodox, and Muslims prayed here, which was marked by constant reconstructions for the temple: sometimes a bathhouse would be built, sometimes outbuildings would be completed, sometimes a minaret would be made from the bell tower. The temple became a monastery thanks to the order of Basilian monks. ☝🏻The church lost its cathedral status in 1781, when the Predtechyn church was built. He had to give up part of his territories due to the construction of the Novoplaniv bridge, because they were of strategic importance for the new transport artery of the city. The church was finally destroyed (up to the foundation) in 1935. 🙈 Already after the collapse of the Soviet Union, archaeological excavations began here, and later the reconstruction of the temple, which took 5 years. Today, the temple is an authentic part of the Old Town, which you come across almost immediately after crossing the Novoplaniv bridge. It is beautiful both during the day and at night.

This is just an unreal city in which you really want to stay. (Translated by Google) The Armenian (City) well is located on the Polish market opposite the southwest corner of the town hall. It was built according to Western European traditions, which the city authorities were so keen to observe in the development of the central part of the city. The well is known by the names City, Armenian, Central, and Turkish. Three opinions are expressed regarding the construction history of the well: the first is that the well was cut out of a solid rock in 1638 at the expense of Narses, an Armenian from Kamianets; the second is a well cut by the Turks during their rule in 1672-1699. According to the third version, the well dates back to 1581, there was a ceiling above it, on which a "pillar of shame" was installed. It is likely that the construction of the well began in 1638 at the expense of Narses, but for some reason was not completed, and the completed work was during the years of Turkish rule. In the 1760s, architect Jan de Witte built a brick octagonal pavilion in the Baroque style above the well. The depth of the well is 55 m, the bottom of the well is a solid smooth slab without any holes, the water comes from cracks in the rock walls and falls down as rain. It is finally known that the water in the well turned out to be unfit for consumption (salts washed out of the rock make it very bitter). According to historical sources, water from the well was used from time to time for other needs, when it was cleaned in time. Later, the building was used as a city warehouse for a long time, and in the 1960s, the landmark was a cinema distribution warehouse. The one-story building is 6 m high. It is square in plan with cut corners; the long sides are 6.6-7.4 m, the short sides are 2.9-3 m. The thickness of the stone walls is 0.9 m. In the center, under the cement floor, is a concrete slab covering the shaft of a well with a diameter of 3 m. The facades are solved in baroque forms. On the wide sides, they are divided by two pilasters, on the narrow ones - by one in the center. Round windows with white stone outer quarters are located between the pilasters on three facades; on the eastern facade – a doorway with an arched lintel. The facades are plastered. A two-tiered shingled tent roof topped by a spire completes the structure. After carrying out repair and restoration works in the 1990s, the well is used as an exhibition hall of the museum. So, in 2014, its premises were provided for the Museum of Wax Figures.

Nestled in the heart of the Old Town, Honcharsʹka Bashta, or the Pottery Tower, is a remarkable historical monument dating back to 1583. This architectural gem was originally part of a pottery workshop and served as a vital defense structure during its time. Designed by the innovative German engineer Albrecht Durer, it showcases advanced fortification techniques for its era, including a unique parapet with cuts.
As known, the Pottery Tower - a historical architectural monument of the XVI century, was built in 1583 and assigned to the pottery shop. This is part of the defense complex of the Old Town, built using the inventions of the German engineer Albrecht Dürer. It was during its construction that a new for those years technology of fortification construction was used - a parapet with a cut. On the canyon side, the building was five-story, and on the city side, it was three-story. Until the end of the 17th century, the tower was covered by a pointed roof with an observation deck. The upper floors were equipped for artillery, and the lower - for small arms.

Built on the edge of the canyon, the tower seems to hang over Smotrych from the eastern side of the old town. Round, like a pipe, 13 m in diameter and a rather tall tower with thick (2.5 m) walls. And its uniqueness lies in the upper tier, especially cut to the middle, which ensured the ricochet of the enemy's stone cores and protected the most vulnerable upper part of the tower from destruction. No other defensive structure in Kamianets can boast such a beveled parapet.

(Translated by Google) Fortifications in this place, extremely convenient for shelling the road leading to the city, existed earlier. The Turks, who captured Kamianets-Podilskyi in 1672, improved its fortification by using stone from the destroyed Dominican monastery. The people of Kamian ironically called the fortifications "girls' pots". In 1753, the German fortification engineer Christian Dahlke, who was the commandant of the fortress, reconstructed the fortifications. Hence another of their names - Dahlke fort. At the beginning of the 19th century, a provision store (warehouse) was built on the bastion according to the project of the military engineer Dementiy Meleshchenov. The stone vaults of the casemate rooms, which began to collapse at the beginning of the 19th century, were first moved with stone and wooden pillars, and then completely moved. After that, the premises of the casemates began to be used as warehouses.

The Armenian Bastion offers a stunning view of the city's defense structures, including the only wooden church in the area and the Russian and Polish filvarkas. The bastion, built before the 16th century, stands on the third terrace from the Fortress Bridge. It played a significant role in defending the city and was constructed with contributions from the Armenian community. Despite heavy destruction in the 17th century, parts of it have survived to this day.

In addition to participating in the defense of the city, the Armenian community participated in the construction and maintenance of the fortress walls of the city. In part, some fortifications such as the Armenian Bastion have survived to this day. The bastion was built before the 16th century. It is located on the third terrace from the Fortress Bridge, which dominates the western one. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Armenian bastion was already heavily destroyed. Work on its restoration and modernization was carried out in the late 17th century. In the 1930s, earthen parapets were erected on the bastion, and later they were rebuilt in stone by the military engineer K.Dalke. The last reconstruction of its upper part was carried out in the 60s of the 18th century. Architecture of the building can be classified as an early small bastion with an obtuse forming angle. Built of stone and placed on rocky ledges. The plan is a hexagon, open on the eastern and urban sides. The outer planes are made with a slight positive slope. The space inside is filled. The height of the walls varies: maximum reaches 12 meters from the base of the rock on the west side. In the general system of fortifications of the city, the Armenian bastion was one of the main links of defense, as it protected one of the three entrances to the city.

(Translated by Google) The representative of the residential building appears to be of the 16th century. The oldest surviving house on Zarvanska Street. And the fireplace with the Czartoryi coat of arms is a unique highlight. Now it has been colorfully painted. And the monks of the Greek-Catholic order of the Redemptorists live here, who take care of the church of St. Josaphat (historically - the Trinitarian church) (Original)

(Translated by Google) The street itself completely conveys the atmosphere of antiquity and nobility. Even new buildings do not spoil the view, but are built in the style of old houses. In addition to this house, there is a former Grand Hotel building nearby, also with an interesting history.
