Nestled in the heart of Poland, Muzeum Budownictwa Ludowego is a sprawling open-air ethnographic museum that beautifully encapsulates traditional village life and architecture. Spanning an impressive 38 hectares, it stands as the largest and one of the most stunning outdoor museums in Europe. Visitors can easily spend over five hours wandering through this enchanting space, so comfortable walking shoes and plenty of water are essential.
See the old houses and try food olso buy souvenirs best experience ever Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to walk everything around. Takes couple hours. But you never gonna regret it. Basically, you can touch the history.

This is a very large and interesting for history open air museum. I found it well organized with parking and tickets. On Saturday in November it was not busy around lunchtime and it was very pleasant to wonder among the huts. It would have been even better if each house had an informative description.
Luc S — Google review
Fantastic open air museum. Gives you a nice view of different regions and historical buildings in Poland. Beautifully done. Not so commercial as pioneer villages. That is why it is so pastoral and nice. Even rebuild a Galicia synagogue.
R G — Google review
Beautiful, you can really soak the atmosphere and feel transported in time. We did not take a guide and I would if I ever come back, which I think I will as it feels like unfinished business. Not crowded. Little gem of serenity and living history.
Sebna — Google review
Wonderful museum nestled in an outstanding natural environment. The couple who run the museum are passionate and highly knowledgeable, adding a personal touch to our visit. The museum tells the story of the Bieszczady region very well, and we look forward to a return visit.
Magdalena G — Google review
A peaceful area where you can explore. I brought my dog with me, a large breed, and they were okay with him. I do recommend having a guide as they open closed doors allowing a closer peek to more of the houses. It doesn't only have houses, it also shows how the people of that time lived there with animals such as goats and sheep being present too.
Michal Z — Google review
This museum is a gem. Budget 5+ hrs, wear walking sneaks and bring plenty of water. This place is full of old buildings which were disassembled and meticulously reassembled at the museum site. You have old homes churches. Dedicated icon collection in a separate building. There is also oil mining/extraction equipment that predates mining of oil in the U.S.. There is recreated 200 year old town square, complete with post office, pharmacy, doctors office, bakery etc and more. Lots of Jewish history and artifacts. This place is worth visiting if you are into history.

History Museums
Nestled in the picturesque town of Sanok, Poland, Zamek Królewski is a stunning 14th-century royal castle that serves as a captivating museum. This historical gem not only showcases an impressive collection of religious and contemporary art but also offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of Polish kings who once resided here.
We liked the museum a lot - they have a really great collection of art, including the huge amount of Beksiński's works. Highly recommended!
Alexander L — Google review
The building itself is very nice. Inside the castle there is a museum. The exhibition is bigger than you would expect, so don't be in an hurry. Especially the permanent exhibition about the religious icons (paintings) is beautiful, even for non-religious person like myself. If you are in a rush riding to Bieszczady, then skip. But if you have the time and you are planning for a stop in Sanok, then it is worth to take extra time to see this museum.
Koos R — Google review
Absolutely stunning collection of icons but also very nice staff, if you come to Sanok this is the must place to see
RUTA M — Google review
The Beksiński Museum, located within the historic Sanok Castle, is an extraordinary experience for anyone who loves art. The castle itself, beautifully situated above the San River, adds a unique historical backdrop to this world-class collection. The exhibition spans different eras, combining the castle’s historic treasures with wonderful works of art across centuries, and culminating in the haunting, deeply original universe of Zdzisław Beksiński. The artist reveals himself not only as a master of form, but also as a restless explorer—curious about the world and constantly experimenting with technique and expression. One of the most moving parts of the exhibition is a reconstructed fragment of Beksiński’s apartment, which allows visitors to step closer into his everyday life and private atmosphere. Personal photographs are woven into the display of his hypnotic and emotional works—what masterpieces they are! In his will, Beksiński donated his entire artistic legacy to the museum. The collection is further enriched by pieces he lovingly gave to his wife, Zofia—his undeniable muse—and their son Tomasz, a passionate music lover and a unique cultural voice in his own right. A small spoiler: visitors can also discover what music this fascinating family listened to in their daily life. The Sanok Castle, with its fusion of history, heritage, and contemporary genius, makes the whole visit a truly multi-dimensional journey into Polish culture.
Patrycja C — Google review
What a colossal waste of time. A Hodge Podge of various artifacts and museum pieces dumped together with no vision or foresight. Boring and monotonous with a long line to get tickets which definitely weren't worth what you paid for them. The only redeeming quality and the reason for the second star was the section with the dark Beksiński collection which could be displayed with much more panache. The whole place was hot and uncomfortable. Stay away unless you really want to see the Beksiński art live. Definitely do not recommend!!
Janusz S — Google review
let's be honest, it is hard to find parallel between historical artefacts and exceptional art by Z. Beksinski, for the sake of doing justice to both, Sanok needs to open an exclusive, high end gallery with Beksinski's artworks, World needs to rediscover his work, his extraordinary talent and tragic foundation of some of Beksinski's paintings and graphics
Artur S — Google review
A great Beksinski Gallery inside a wonderful old castle. Sadly the lighting was way off as the beams blinded the paintings and made them very blury to look at closely. You had to stand sideways in a weird angle of you want to get a closer look. This needs to be fixed.
Marita M — Google review
Although the castle has a lot of history, it is unfortunately an art museum. Huge disappointment that the potential to provide visitors local history of the crown and castle was totally ignored in favor of art.

Local history museum
Nestled within the historic walls of Sanok Castle, the Muzeum Historyczne w Sanoku is a treasure trove for art and history enthusiasts alike. This captivating museum boasts an impressive array of collections that span various eras and styles. Visitors can explore Pokutian ceramics, military artifacts, and contemporary art pieces that showcase Poland's rich cultural heritage. A highlight is undoubtedly the extensive collection of works by Zdzisław Beksiński, whose surreal paintings provoke thought and intrigue.
Another worthy place to visit in Sanok. This museum has 3 parts. Lowest level has prehistoric and War Wars stuff. There are old Roman coins and old weapons. The next level has huge amount of religious paintings/icons. The upper level is dedicated to a Polish contemporary painter named Beksiński. His paintings are though provoking, surreal and very interesting. The museum is definitely worth seeing.

(Translated by Google) It is located in a beautiful castle surrounded by a small park. Stunning collections. Rich collection of exhibits related to the history of weaponry. Interestingly, a feather from the cap of a soldier of the Podhale Regiment was attached with a swastika. The archaeological collection contains a large amount of beautiful jewelry. A very interesting form of presentation. The painting collection in the basement is displayed in display cases. It's a shame that the prints by Picasso and Chagall are so poorly displayed. The icon rooms have benches so you can sit and contemplate the art. One room is dedicated to the work of Marian Kruczek. Very friendly staff are available to help and answer questions. Regular admission: PLN 30. PLN 12 for the guidebook, but you must bring your own headphones. Restrooms on each floor Cloakroom in the form of a coat rack Free parking at the bottom of the slope; paid parking at the castle. (Original) Mieści się w pięknym zamku otoczone małym parkiem. Among the portraits are works by "our" artist, Ms. Janina Dobrzyńska. In addition, there's an armory with an extensive military collection. The icing on the cake is, of course, the Zdzisław Beksiński Gallery; an additional attraction is the opportunity to travel three-dimensionally through the world of the artist's paintings. Definitely worth visiting when you are in Sanok
Inna H — Google review
Beksinski work is absolutely fantastic, no question. BUT! This is the worst museum I've ever visited in terms of display. The lightning of the paintings is absolutely garbage. There are light reflections all over the works, and sometimes the spots are behind you so when you try to go see the paintings from close up your shadow is projected on them. This really spoil the experience.
Julien G — Google review
I have no words to describe. Come and see. Do not omit the wing with historic paintings, to get some kind of context/visual reference. Two hours are not enough. Plan a stay of 4 hours. One can take pictures without flash, though it is not easy to find an angle without reflections. Buy a catalog instead.
István N — Google review
Must visit if you know his art and you're around.
Bart P — Google review
Plenty to see. Very interesting.
1 L — Google review
An absolute must for Beksiński fans. A large portion of its best pieces are here, along with the entirety of his varsovian studio. The museum is a bit weird as prehistoric remains, sacred icons and modern paintings are shown together with Beksiński operas, making for an unsettling switching from a period of art to another. It is possible to skip any parts so if you just want to see Beksiński paintings, studio and photographers, you can.
Gianluca F — Google review
I’ve always wanted to go here and it did not disappoint. A beautiful building that encloses most of Beksinski’s work. However, there was a very annoying security guard that was supposed to be incognito. However, this was not the case. He invaded our personal space all the way around. So for that and feeling uncomfortable it cannot be a 5* experience.

Castle
The hilltop remains of an ancient fortress, covered in vegetation, offer breathtaking views of a river and mountains from a terrace. The walk to the ruins is pleasant and not too strenuous. Although the castle itself is mostly in ruins, the surrounding scenery is magnificent. It's recommended to capture photos of this picturesque site. Exploring the entire area would take around 40 minutes. If you're new to the area, it's worth making the effort to reach this location for its impressive vista.
Very cool. It was a scenic walk that wasn't too taxing. You walk up the hill in a sea of green and then you're in the ruins. Don't expect much left as far the castle is concerned but the views are quite nice. Take pictures and you're all set. A 40 minutes to take on the whole thing. Definitely recommend.

(Translated by Google) A place with potential - completely unused. A small plus for posts with QR codes to YT videos discussing the places visited. And for the rest of the things - big minuses - broken benches, garbage, bushes at the very top.

(Translated by Google) The place was ok, although the approach to the peak was a bit neglected. If someone expects picturesque views, they will unfortunately also be disappointed, because from the mound in all directions you can see trees (as in the attached photo). However, once again, it must be admitted that most of the route is ok (benches, cobblestones).

(Translated by Google) Very neglected, overgrown place :( The viewing platform next door, also through the treetops, does not fulfill its role. (Original) Bardzo zaniedbane, zarośnięte miejsce :( Platforma widokowa obok, tez przezkorony drzew nie spełnia swojej roli.

(Translated by Google) A very nice park, one of the most attractive points of which is the Adam Mickiewicz Mound. The journey to the top will take a while, but it is a very pleasant walk. Unfortunately, you can't see much from the top, but it's still worth going there if you're in the area (Original) Bardzo ładny park którego jednym z bardziej atrakcyjnych punktów jest Kopiec Adama Mickiewicza. Podróż na górę chwilę zajmie, ale jest to bardzo przyjemny spacer. Z góry niestety nie widać zbyt dużo, ale i tak warto się tam wybrać będą w okolicy

(Translated by Google) A historical souvenir - young residents of Sanok from the Sanok Junior High School built a mound to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the death of Adam Mickiewicz. A place with scenic values outside the growing season. When trees have leafy crowns, views are limited. (Original) Pamiątka historyczna - młodzi Sanoczanie z sanockiego gimnazjum meskiego usypali kopiec upamietniając 100-letnią rocznicę śmierci Adama Mickiewicza. Miejsce o walorach widokowych poza sezonem wegetacyjnym. Gdy drzewa posiadają ulistnione korony widoki są ograniczone.

(Translated by Google) It looks like an abandoned place. Knee-deep grass, a worn-out, muddy path, and a sign at the top. It makes no sense. (Original) Wygląda jak opuszczone miejsce. Trawa po kolana i tylko wydeptana blotnista ścieżka a na górze tylko tabliczka. Bez sensu

Hall Playroom Urwis is a delightful destination for families seeking a fun-filled day. Parents can indulge in delicious food while their children enjoy the various play areas designed especially for toddlers and young kids. The atmosphere is lively, making it an ideal spot during weekdays when it's less crowded. However, visitors should be prepared for warmer temperatures due to the low ceiling, which can affect air circulation. Overall, Hall Playroom Urwis offers a great combination of tasty treats and engaging activities that keep little ones entertained!

(Translated by Google) This is another visit, the daughter is happy with the fun, and the parents are happy with the food. Tasty and fun, it's worth visiting. It's best during the week because it's really crowded on the weekend. (Original) To już kolejna wizyta córka zadowolona z zabawy, a rodzice z jedzenia. Smacznie i zabawnie warto tutaj zaglądać. Najlepiej w tygodniu bo w weekend jest naprawdę tłoczno.
