Havering Museum Ltd, situated on the premises of the old Romford Brewery, is a testament to the borough's rich history and heritage. The museum, entirely managed by volunteers and established in 2010 with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, offers insights into Havering's brightest achievements and its diverse areas' formation. Visitors can explore permanent and temporary exhibits showcasing Romford's historical ties to royalty while also participating in activities like old-fashioned card-making classes.
Such a lovely little museum with incredibly kind and helpful staff! I visited to research historic photos of Romford for my geography NEA, and the staff went above and beyond, providing me with so much information and even a few little goodies. It truly feels like a hidden gem! If you ever find yourself in Romford and are looking for something to do, I highly recommend stopping by. It’s an underrated spot that gives you a real glimpse into Romford’s past. Thank you so much to everyone there!

Its a nice and neat little place you can go to if you want to learn about the history about romford as well as hornchurch and havering. Although the place is pretty small, they were kind enough to give me a mini tour and tell me what parts i was allowed to take photos of and what ones i wasnt. I liked the stuff they showed such as the miniature models and the different types of coins or shillings with facts of how people used them back then. There was some stuff you was allowed to interact with like the hand cuff/locks, the roman armour and shield, the puzzle of the old map of romford/kent etc. Nice place to check out if you're in romford

A little Museum with a big heart. Lots of interesting objects within the Museum, telling the history of the site (Old Ind Coope Brewery) and the local areas. Plus, add to that the wonderful talks they arrange, ranging from historical to pub beanos and hop picking. Friendly staff and a very clean venue.

The Museum is lucky to have very enthusiastic and informative volunteers. The Museum is laid out in a very creative way rather than just being a chronological record of the past.

A little gem of a Museum Well worth a visit Very friendly staff.
Susan P — Google review
Well-manicured little museum documenting the history of the area. Exhibits, while not massive, were well laid out and provided detailed overviews of various facets of the borough's history. Well worth the price of admission. Will be visiting again when I'm back in London.

Lovely little local museum with lovely staff
Laura S — Google review
Visited there yesterday. The volunteers are very knowledgeable about the area and really went out of their way to find out extra info. I wanted to know more about Rainham Hall, and one of the staff went and printed out a load of info for me to read about it. The museum is very informative on the different towns in Havering, and I would recommend others to visit.

Playgrounds
Raphael Park is a picturesque recreational retreat located in Romford, featuring a serene lake, well-maintained landscaped grounds, sports fields, a charming bandstand, and an inviting playground for children. The play area offers plenty of climbing structures and swings for kids to enjoy. Visitors can also explore the park's ornamental gardens and observe the diverse birdlife around the scenic lake. Additionally, there are amenities such as a cafe, kiosk, and restrooms conveniently situated near the play area.
Great park to go relax and have a walk around with a combination of water, woodland and open field space to break up your day. Perfect place for a nice day out with the family or some quiet time alone. There is free parking available across the road (but you have to register your stay via Ringo or the machine available or you will get a ticket) The walk around the exterior of the park would take roughly 30 minutes. The children’s park is located in the opposite corner to the lake. There are also tennis courts available for free booking with information available in and around the courts on how to book them out. There is a large green area for anyone looking to have a picnic or do outdoor sports. If you forgot your picnic or don’t want to bring your own food there is a lovely cafe located near the lake which you can visit with indoor and outdoor seating. From what I remember they are dog friendly also. Overall a great park for use by all and well maintained by the grounds team.

Raphael Park is a true local gem! The peaceful atmosphere, beautiful greenery, and well-maintained paths make it a perfect place for a relaxing walk or family outing. The tennis courts are a real highlight—clean, spacious, and a joy to play on. Whether you're a seasoned player or just having fun, the courts at Raphael Park are fantastic. A lovely community space that truly shines!

Very pretty park, part of the "Green lung"a series of linked parks stretching between Romford and Havering Atte Bower. This is the best park with its lovely lake. I was there for the park run, which was great. Couple of cafes at either end of the park!

The Brookside Theatre, located in the Romford War Memorial Social Club, is a community theater that hosts live bands and private events. It opened in 2012 as a means of generating funds for the restoration of the historic complex. Over the past six years, it has become a successful enterprise with its 140-seater auditorium. The theater is financially independent and has showcased numerous musicals, plays, comedians, celebrity speakers, and other performances.
Watched Disney2 great atmosphere songs and money well spent. A lovely theatre second time being here and enjoyed it. Great seats and recommendations to all to see a show here.

Went to see Beauty and the beast at the Brookside theatre this week. What a great show, we loved seeing a panto at Easter. Dame Fanny flapjack was amazing and her many , many dress changes impressed us greatly. I wish I was going to the adult version this weekend as I imagine it will be hilarious.
James S — Google review
Went to the opening night of The Addams Family at The Brookside Theatre in Romford, what a night! the production far out weighed our expections. The cast portrayed the charactors perfectly and was hilariously funny and had some brilliant scenes. The production was worthy of any West End theatre without West End prices. Would highly recommend.
Neil W — Google review
I visited for the first time with my family recently, and it's okay. The shows are affordable, and the drinks and snacks aren't too overpriced here. It is great to have something like this in the area. However, there were some cons for us. The sound quality wasn't great. We saw School of Rock so being a musical, it was heavily reliant on the sound being good. The acoustics aren't great, which is forgivable for a small theatre, but the whole show, the vocals were quieter than the music, so it made it hard to hear most of the lyrics which was a shame. And the worst con of them all was the chairs. My goodness, they are one of the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in. All of us were complaining of back ache and numb bottoms even just by the intermission. I personally found myself distracted by the discomfort I was experiencing and not being able to pay attention some of the time. It is a shame, and unfortunately for me, it has probably turned me off of the idea of returning unless there is something I desperately want to see that's worth the pain because it spoils the experience. Other than that, all the staff were really lovely, it's clearly well looked after and it is a very sweet theatre, but it seems like it's going to be a one off for us. I will update if I ever go again and they've got new chairs 🤣
J — Google review
We traveled from SE London watch DSUK the Dire Straits tribute band. On arriving I thought the venue was small but it was perfect. The sound quality was amazing and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. There was a mix up with our seats and Jean sorted it out for us with charm and a smile. We will definitely return. A lovely venue.
Abi P — Google review
This theatre truly is a gem in the middle of Romford. I have been to a few shows here over the past few years including Elf, Peter Rabbit, Frozen, Disney School of Rock, Beauty and the Beast and I have just come back from The Twits. The quality of the shows are just amazing and I always leave with a big smile on my face and I can't wait to return. The theatre itself is lovely and very clean and has all you need with a car park right next door. This theatre holds a special place in my heart.

Nice theatre, small from the outside, TARDIS on the inside. Sits large crowds quite comfortably. Large reduced pixel pitch LED tiled SMD backlight independent driven display wall adding to the enjoyment experience. Good stage lighting arrangement. Helpful staff, and good onsite facilities. The room was a little cold. Great show.

Bedfords Park, a 215-acre nature reserve in the London Borough of Havering, was once a private estate with a rich history before opening to the public in 1934. The park features a variety of habitats including meadows, woodland, and ponds that attract diverse wildlife such as red deer and Red Poll cattle. Visitors can enjoy scenic views over London and Kent from this historic nature reserve.
Amazing place to go to for a nice walk, and also if you or your kids love deers. You can feed the deers some carrots. Very beautiful hidden gem near Harold wood. You can even see the London skyline, and the sunset is amazing.

Overall great place to go with family. Deers are a great entertainment, and to walk around is actually really nice. Park/play area isn't anything amazing for kids but still good to have something. The dog owners need to clean up after their dogs, so much poo around.

A stunning hidden gem local to Romford / Havering area, lovely choice of park to pick if you're in the area! Beautiful view of the London skyline aswell as surrounding areas. Nice big playground if you have children and the deers are a great attraction for younger ones aswell, as well as if you have carrots lying around yourself!! Recommend!!

Highly recommend this place. You can feed the deer carrots and it's very spacious. The toilets are clean and there is free parking. Only down side is there's lots of poo on the grass but I guess that's to be expected as not all dog owners pick it up, which they should.

Flea & Street Markets
Romford Market is a historic and vibrant open-air market that has been in operation since 1247. It is located in Romford, England and opens every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. With over 150 regular stalls and an additional 100 temporary traders, the market offers a wide variety of goods including fresh produce, meat, clothing, media, housewares, antiques, jewelry, flowers, music and tech gadgets.
It was nice, maybe little known passage of the Liberty shopping centre, connecting its central hall with the Market Place. Nice, charming caffes, suitable for romantic rendezvous, also big shoe shop with really low prices for branded shoes, flight centre, health and beauty salons, several toys for children, etc. I was really surprised to find all that and hope to come here again. Yes, Romford and its shops are worth exploring!
Nelliliuciamylove A — Google review
Nice market place right next to The Liberty shopping centre. There is plenty of parking and it is spacious too. You can go to the local shops there and find a lot of finds for cheap as well. The only downside is that it has really weird parking times/ restrictions. It is also I believe a little more expensive than parking at the brewery.
Zayyaan Z — Google review
A wide variety of African and Asian goods. You can negotiate a price with the seller. Nice people too.
Freshgrains A — Google review
This market opens on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. It's a nice place to get your groceries fresh and cheap from the vendors. You can also get affordable clothing, like socks, gloves, hats, warmers, toys, plates, pots etc. it's really a nice place to visit and shop. You need to have cash as most sellers don't take card payments. There are food vendors and snacks available for your enjoyment. Make sure you go with bags as well.
Adeniyi J — Google review
Absolutely love Romford market. It’s part of a clean, safe large shopping centre, which has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment eg cinema, bowling, ice skating, swimming, laser tag, boulder wall climbing, indoor soft play
Shazia M — Google review
Went thrrr on market day a good few stalls out fruit And veg , Clothing, Asian perfumes nice variety of eating options kitchen equipment on the whole a good selection of stalls
FAITH — Google review
Romford market is sadly seen it's day, it definitely is outdated with only one third of stall spaces being occupied with a low attendance of customers. Money is hard to come by for alot of people so when shopping people are looking for a guarantee when shopping. There is no guarantee that the person on that stall selling goods will be there the next market day. There are now shops offering goods at the same price or even lower, but with a difference, you have a receipt giving you a guarantee, and shops as the likes of Primark possibly has taken away alot of market shoppers. Times have changed as have the customer demands. It will not go backwards only forwards. Havering Council needs to decide whether to keep Romford market. Whilst I'm aware there were plans some years ago to change the use if the current space this was staunchly opposed with thousands of signatures against the idea of losing the market. It would be very interesting to know if those thousands of signatures actually go to this market and spend their money.
Sandra — Google review
This historic market started from the year 1245. The local market comes every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It has all kinds of amenities for daily use like Bedcover, sheets, towels, toys, utensils, all kitchen supplies, cleaning materials, craft items, fastfood stalls, bags, dresses, winter/summer clothes, eggs, jewellery, plants etc. It has ATMs nearby.

Valence House Museum, located in London, is a well-preserved medieval manor house with a surrounding moat. Throughout its history, it has served various purposes such as a family home, town hall, and library headquarters before being transformed into a museum dedicated to showcasing the historic life of Barking and Dagenham.
Such a fantastic little gem of a museum. We love local museums like this because they tell the story of the area so perfectly. Love that the Dagenham Idol is there on display as well. Highly recommend if you’re interested in the history of the area or if you’re looking for a little day out for the littles as there’s a lovely playground next door, a neat little garden, and a yummy cafe.

What a wonderful place to visit, from the warm greeting as I walked in to all the historic items dating back over 2000 years ago up till 1960's it's a really a informative museum about the development of the local area from Manor houses to the urban place it is today.it has lots of examples of different times of Barking and Dagenham history..
David P — Google review
I came here on the weekend, to see the park and the museum. There is no charge to enter and I was surprised to find the amount of detail and exhibitions displayed here. The ground floor has some information and models of the house. Upstairs has more information of specialised interest. I particularly liked seeing the artefacts of Vera Lynn, alongside a piece where you can hear some of her songs by just pressing a button. There are also some secondary sources of people speaking about work back I the day, or about their evacuation experiences during the Second World War. I thought it was very nice here, they have a room with a gallery of oil paintings and elsewhere there are plenty of old fashioned items you can have a look at. They closed for lunch between 12-1pm, but a staff member gave me a bookmark with a QR code in which I could use to have a look at whenever (it leads to the website with more information). I thought that was very appropriate, as I didn't bring a bookmark that day and had just started a new book. The bookmark even has a picture of a skull (I like that) 💀

A amazing museum and lovely place to visit packed with information and loads of history on Barking and Dagenham. I highly recommend it and the staff and friendly and will tell you a bit about it. It also is a decent size and has a toilet and a cafe next to it where you can also buy a souvenir.

A beautiful house in georgious gardens. Lovely tea room. Fantastic museum and archive centre. Very helpful staff.
Mary W — Google review
I had a great time walking through a beautiful building hosting many items depicting the ages. From the early settlers, the monarchy, and the rise and fall of the abbots by king Henry VIII to owners of the house from the 1920's onward. Did you know that Mahatma Gandhi visited the place? A showcase of cultural diversity through modern times and the importance of the Ford motor company has had on the local community in Dagenham. The staff were courteous and considerate throughout our visit. Some events occur all year round, so pick up the event's pamphlet. Well worth a few stops as there is so much to see and experience. I should also mention they have a modern-day cafeteria and indoor and outdoor seating, well-kept sanitary toilets, and a souvenir shop to boot. Valence House has open-air gardens that have loads of seating and a place for tranquility. Parking is found at the Valence Park entrance leading to Valence House. I shall visit again.

Great little museum in an old house. Local history but enough to have a wider interest especially as it contains the unique Dagenham idol, a must see for prehistory enthusiasts...free too.

What a lovely museum tucked away in Valance Park. I cant believe ive been in Barking for 5 years a missed this. Definitely worth visiting with children, I would say give atleast 2 hours. There is a lovely Cafe as well and a Museum shop. The House itself has several rooms to explore and the day we went they had a young persons adventure trail which included questions on each room so it got the kids really intrested!! I am coming back here for sure!

Upminster Windmill, a picturesque four-sail smock mill built in 1805, stands as a significant piece of history in the Essex countryside. Originally constructed by local farmer James Nokes, it is now a Grade II* listed building and considered one of the best remaining English smock mills. The site offers visitors an immersive experience into the area's past and is currently undergoing restoration to preserve its historical significance.
I went to see the windmill with a group of local Cub Scouts. The volunteers from the windmill were so accommodating and friendly. They gave us a tour of the windmill and explained to us how it worked. We went around the windmill in small groups and each group had at least two guides. The guides were safety conscious and advised us all of the hazards, especially the children. The windmill is not accessible to disabled people, mainly due to its age and design. I thoroughly recommend visiting the windmill, see their website for open days. There are beautiful gardens at the same location and I found them very inspiring.

Built in 1803, Upminster Windmill is one of the finest remaining smock mills in the country, and has a rich history. In 2016, a restoration project began to bring the mill back to working order, saving it from collapse.

Stunning windmill, especially when the sails are unleashed - Stopped off to see the windmill on Tuesday, 05th August 2025. Past this windmill for years, when it was closed and sail-less. Appears to be open more now that it's been restored, and the site includes plenty of parking and the buildings around the windmill are part of the museum. The stunning aspect of my visit was witnessing the sails unleashed, which, tbh, I had never seen before at windmill visits outside the Netherlands. Check the Website/Facebook site for opening days and times, as otherwise, though you can walk to the site, you won't be able to park next to it. When open parking is free. Very limited parking opportunities nearby if not open.

I visited the windmill yesterday on an open day with my children. I really enjoyed it, the volunteers were knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The windmill had multiple floors with clear explanations of what each floor did. I loved that it was something different and a great bit of local history.

Wow what an incredible place to still have, such a great bit of local history for Upminster and the residents should be very proud of it. I really hope lots of people go to visit when it opens for visiting. I did a craft fair today and didn’t get the chance to tour but I cannot wait to.

Old MacDonald's Farm & Fun Park is a charming and quaint farm that offers more than just the usual petting zoo experience. It features a variety of animal-themed fairground rides, including a rollercoaster, as well as animatronic shows and indoor and outdoor play areas. In addition to classic farm animals like goats, donkeys, and pigs, visitors can also meet alpacas, wallabies, owls, and other exotic creatures.
We visited Old MacDonald’s Farm with our two children (aged 4 and 2), and it was such a fantastic day out! The last time we came was just before my son turned one, and he was a little too young to appreciate the full experience, so I can honestly say the experience this time was so much better. Both kids absolutely loved the rides – which I think is one of the best things about this farm. You don’t just get to see and interact with the animals (which they also enjoyed), but there are so many rides (some of which are even suitable for babies) and outdoor play areas that kept them fully engaged. It really does offer something for everyone. There were plenty of opportunities to meet the animals (we did the rabbit encounter), and we were lucky to catch the summer circus too – my children really enjoyed that. The staff stood out as well; everyone we met was so kind and friendly, which made the experience even nicer. On top of that, there are indoor soft play areas for rainy days, but we had sunny, warm weather so the kids made the most of the outdoor climbing frames and slides. We visited from 10am until 3pm, but honestly, you could easily spend the whole day here until closing. My tip would be to arrive early: start with the animals and then move on to the rides once they open at 11am. A brilliant family day out – we’ll definitely be back!
Suraiya T — Google review
Fantastic day out with toddlers. If you can on a weekday in term time you can go on all the rides multiple times as practically no queues! The set up is also very walkable with animals and rides and playgrounds interspersed ergonomically. They have a great variety of animals who seem happy and healthy. It's a little pricey, but it feels worth it to give money to a nice farm. I wish their food options were healthier - especially the snacks (having some fruit on offer for the kids would be helpful!)

We visited as a family with our three girls and had such a fantastic day! There was so much to do — from seeing the animals to enjoying the rides and fun activities. Everything was really well organised, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The girls especially loved the pumpkin patch and all the little details that made the day extra special. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon! 🎃🐮

Incredible place Got there at 10:30am and received an informative welcome from reception I was happily surprised that it was not very busy . I was apprehensive about how many rides my daughter who is nearly two could go on and yet out of everything available she only missed out on 5 attractions. I love how detailed the park was and that there was just so many things to keep kids entertained for hours . Cafe was really good with large portions of food that was not salty but full of flavour. Staff loved interacting with the kids ,were really polite ,enthusiastic and took pride in their jobs. Overall Very very good value for the money and 100% worth it Will be definitely visiting again hopefully with a party of family members.

This is a fantastic place to bring your child! My little one is under 2 years old, so the free admission is a big plus. Everything is well organized, and there's the convenience of being able to eat inside. As expected from places like this, the food is more on the quick side, but it's surprisingly tasty. I've visited twice already and will definitely be coming back. One of the standout attractions is the circus – it’s a wonderful source of entertainment for both kids and adults alike. I recommend this place !

A complete package of thrill, fun and exploration for the little explorers. The farm themed park has a lot to offer starting with family friendly yet thrill rides that little ones can’t simply resist. My little one enjoyed doing the happy horses, train ride and crazy barnyard ride - of of them couple of times. It has got a decent softplay area too right at the entrance, along side the cafe and icecream bars. The animated shows run throughout the day at the show barns and the adventure playgrounds are quite massive and located at the centre of the park. There’s one little explorers playground as well with lots or animal sheds nearby offering seating areas. My little daughter couldn’t only do the doggy roller coaster as the ride closed at 4pm only strictly, but for next time sure. We had an unmissable and unforgettable adventure time her in this park in Brentwood, for sure.

Returned for our annual.years Halloween visit. Bit disappointed to find the Halloween walk through bit was closed off however realised upon checking that we were a day early. Decided to make the most of it and enjoy the rides. Took some really lovely Halloween photos of my girls lots of perfect back drops and props available throughout the park Staff were lovely especially the man on the train ride. Staff on both coffee stations were friendly and my daughter's both enjoyed a delicious custom made hot chocolates in after eight and unicorn. Animals looked happy and with plenty of space to roam around. It was lovely to see the pig foraging for plants and eating on the grass. Two lovely carousels, a rollercoaster and several other rides plus the staff make this place a really fun day out for all the family We will return

Lovely day out, we visited Old McDonald Farm with the kids to experience the Halloween Festival, we have been coming here for years but not on Halloween . Brilliant day, so nice to visit a park with just an entry fee and when you enter all rides are included, shows and activities, no hidden extras. Kids had a brilliant day, even the adults too, the kids also received a free pumpkin each. Some of the children in our family were sick, the staff at Old MacDonald Farm were brilliant - even offered to move to a different day so the kids don’t miss out (for a small fee) . Well done Old MacDonald Farm, we will definitely be coming back again !!!!

We ate in the Paddick Restaurant something for everyone on the menu. The food was wholesome presented well and was very good. All the staff we encountered were very friendly professional and helpful. The racing was fantastic the dogs were looked after by the handlers. All in all a great evening value for money fun great atmosphere. If you haven't been to the dogs before please give it a go you will be pleasantly surprised

Love it! Great fun. Great night out. Easy to make bets once you understand how to do it (the pamphlet you get on entry has a brilliant how to!). The only downside is that there aren’t enough people on the desks on busy race days (Friday and Saturday nights) so the queues to place or settle bets could take a long time. You don’t have to bet though and just enjoy the festivities!
Katie H — Google review
Visited with my son's. We hadn't been for years. Parked easily in there free car park. There is free entry on a Wednesday, but they offered a pack online for £10 each (Only for 18+) which includes a racecard, drink & quick bites meal (Cheeseburger / Hotdog & Fries) Plus re-entry with a racecard on a Friday/Saturday in the next 3months. It's a really good deal, (burger on it's own was £4). It's a shame they don't offer a deal for under 18's without the racecard though. The 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed it, despite it being very quiet and very wet later on. We had a few small bets, won a few but lost more🤣 Very enjoyable night. We will look forward to coming again. For those that live outside of the M25 as we are, remember that Romford is in the ULEZ.

Did afternoon meal with a group, had a great time with great staff who looked after our group. Only had 1 problem with four people who sat on one of our tables and refused to move. Not the venue or staffs fault, just a group of selfish people who hopefully didn't get any winners.

Had a work night out here at the Paddock restaurant. Was a brilliant night. The staff were attentive the food was really good. Could have 3 courses. Our tables were just above the finish line too. Was helpful with the guy coming round to take our bets. First time going to the dog races and would certainly do it again. Parking is limited but we knew that going.

The Liberty Shopping Centre is an indoor shopping destination that features a wide array of high-street fashion brand stores, as well as cafes and food outlets. It offers a friendly atmosphere with helpful staff and ample parking for both cars and bicycles. Visitors can enjoy a variety of dining options, from restaurants to cafes serving delicious meals. Additionally, the centre is beautifully decorated during the Christmas season, creating a festive ambiance.
One of the best shopping centres I have attended and recommend visiting. I come from miles just to shop there. Many shops, cafes and restaurants and there's an option of leaving your little children in their nursery insidenthe shopping centre , whilst you do your shopping, the experience staff in the staff will look after your children whilst you shop around the area till your hearts content. Its Free parking on a Sunday.

Love Romford, it's people and this shopping centre, situated just in the centre of Romford. It is 5 minutes walk from Romford railway station and many buses run nearby. Though at the moment there is no wheelchair accessible entrance, but that might be improved by the soon coming modernisation. All shops, coffees and resting places are on the Ground floor. No playground for children, but now there is exhibition of extinct prehistoric animals in their full-size and moving several parts of their bodies. Quite impressive for grown-ups, too! There are also toilets and adjoining big car park. Please, come, shop at your favourite shops, have light snacks at cafees and tea-points, while relaxing and enjoying your time!

Nice place to visit , so many choices for shopping and eat. Halal food is widely available, kids friendly. Will recommend for family with young kids. Parking is free on Sundays.
Bobby Y — Google review
1. Central location & good transport links The centre is very conveniently located in the heart of Romford, close to the train station and a variety of bus routes. 2. Wide variety of shops With around 100 stores including major high street brands like Primark, H&M, JD Sports, M&S, Boots, etc., The Liberty offers a good range for fashion, beauty, lifestyle and accessories. 3. Size, footfall & amenities It covers a large floor area (about 432,000 sq ft) and draws millions of visitors annually, which suggests it remains a go-to destination for many. It also has an 800-space car park. 4. Shopping environment & recent improvements The centre is generally clean and well maintained. Some shops are undergoing refurbishments to modernise their spaces. Accessibility seems good — located mostly on one level, and easy to get around on foot, including for those with mobility needs. 👎 What could be better 1. Vacant units & lack of sparkle in some areas Some parts feel less lively — there are empty units, and certain areas could use more aesthetic attention. 2. Safety & anti-social behaviour concerns There are occasional reports of anti-social behaviour, robberies, or concerns around safety, which may deter some visitors. 3. Parking frustrations Although there is a large car park, users sometimes find the exit/entry routing confusing or inconvenient. Also, it can get very busy at peak times. 4. Slippery floors when wet Several users have noted that when it rains, the polished floors in courts and corridors get slippery, which can be a hazard. 5. Competition & need for more diversity While the big names are present, some people feel that there could be more variety — especially more independent shops, leisure options, or novel dining experiences to make visits more interesting. --- ⭐ Overall impression The Liberty is a solid shopping centre that ticks many boxes: location, variety, accessibility, and amenities. It’s not perfect—some parts feel dated, and there are issues with safety perception and empty shops—but recent investments and refurbishments suggest it's heading in a good direction. If you’re going for general shopping, grabbing a bite, or spending a casual day out, it’s a good choice. For something more special or premium, there may be better options out of the immediate area.

Lodge Farm Park, located near Romford Town Centre, offers a peaceful escape from the city with its open spaces and natural surroundings. Originally farmland, the park features a river and footpath for leisurely strolls. Visitors can enjoy amenities such as tennis courts, a playground, and a miniature railway operated by the Havering Miniature Railway Club. Families can take advantage of the park's facilities for picnics, football games, and children's activities.
Visited here recently with my little girl and was pleasantly surprised. We were originally going to visit the other side where the ducks were, but as soon as we saw there was a picnic area and a playground, we changed our minds. There were plenty of picnic tables inside the park and outside of the park which was nice and we noticed a huge railway track that goes around the park - upon further investigation they have a little train every so often for little one's to ride on which I think is brilliant. Will definitely return when the train is running.

Lodge Farm Park in Romford is a hidden gem for anyone looking to relax or enjoy a casual day out. The park is beautifully maintained, with wide open green spaces, shady trees, and a peaceful brook running through. What really stood out to me was the miniature railway such a fun and nostalgic touch, especially if you’re visiting with kids. There’s also a great mix of things to do, from tennis courts and a playground to a bowling green and outdoor gym. What I really appreciated was how calm and community-focused the park felt. Families, dog walkers, and older folks all seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. It’s not massive, but it’s just the right size for a relaxing stroll or a picnic. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area or want a peaceful break from the busier London parks.

Living next to this is an absolute nightmare. It really affects people’s mental health. Everything they do here is really loud and noisy. They always using machines or morning the lawns or just that train where you hear all the noise. Today I was working from home and honestly I had to stop a meeting and rearrange it for another day because of how much noise they make. I’m attaching a video for you to hear. My whole house vibrates because of the noise and you can hear it from inside really loudly. It’s killing you feel anxious all the time in your own home!

This small park effectively an extension of Raphael Park includes playground, bowling greens, tennis courts, outdoor gym and an occasional model railway. The residual trickle of Black's Brook along the entire western flank. A small car park on site. Clean, maintained with some scattered bedding and a variety of mature trees, all spread/laid out by 'an accomplished hand.' Pleasant here and an admirable local amenity.

We had a wonderful time at Weald Country Park! We followed the Stick Man trail, which my daughter absolutely loved, and she was so excited to feed the ducks and deer with some carrots and apples. The play area is great for kids, and the café was perfect for a little break (the ice cream was a big hit!). We stayed for about 3 hours, enjoyed the fresh air, and took loads of lovely photos. Such a beautiful, family-friendly park with plenty to see and do. 🦆🦌🍦🌳

The forest walk is very nice and relaxing, a good way escape the Sun's heat in the summer. The forest and surrounding area is big you can encounter horse riding people, runners, dog walkers. There are open fileds for dogs to run around, to play ball games or just enjoy the Sun and have a picnic. You can easily enjoy a few hours here. There are several car parks around all pay and display or use the parking app on your phone. Shame they are paid instead of letting people enjoy nature for free. The main car park at the visitor center is big, here you'll find toilets and a caferia with food. To Brentwood center by car is less then 10 minutes drive or you can do a walkof aproximately 40-50 minutes. There is no direct access to the A12 from the park.

Great place for meetups, runs, walks, kite flying, bike ridding, picnics, taking photos, family day out and much more. Has cafe with great staff and food. Toilet are near the cafe, could do with some at the top end and the ones near the cricket ground could do with doing up and opening. Great place for the family and kids. There's talk that the cafe may closed, hope this is not the case and it's kept open. It would be a great loss to the park and the people that visit.

Such an amazing experience in a beautiful farm! You can tell the area is very well maintained by all those that work and volunteer here. The animals are loved and look so happy! We had the pleasure to meet a young volunteer who answered a lot of my eldest daughters questions, he was very informative and you could tell he loves what he does! We also had the loveliest pleasure to meet Stacy! She saw that my children were so excited and offered an animal encounter for only £3 per child! My children had such a lovely experience with the goats and felt so happy and content by the end of it. Stacy gave us heaps of information about the beautiful young goats, you could sense how passionate she is about what she does! As we left, my youngest even started wailing because she didn't want to leave! It's safe to say we will definitely be back. On our arrival we were met with confusion. Very unclear what to do or what was going on. Animals were fine however they looked miserable which matched the expression of the workers/voulunteers. I understand they choose to do this but you could at least put on a smile. Not really a sense of community and the volunteers were more focused on their phones and watching us. No chunky pigs which was a shame. Little things such as the dirty duck pond didn’t look nice and could be fixed quickly. On the other hand..

The Sapphire Ice & Leisure public swimming pool is well-regarded and offers a pleasant environment. However, there is a notable presence of homosexual women in the facility. It would be beneficial for the trainers to advise them on their dietary choices, as excessive eating undermines the effectiveness of exercising at the gym. The sight of overweight female trainers may send an unfavorable message to others. While it's true that obesity is prevalent among British women, it should not be promoted or accepted.
Sapphire Ice & Leisure offer excellent swimming classes for children, from baby/parent classes all the way through primary. My two children have had a fantastic experience with Megan. She is patient, enthusiastic, and truly gifted at working with children. Megan is supportive and encouraging, my children (aged 4 and 6) look forward to every lesson. The lessons are fun, safe, and structured in a way that builds confidence and skills step by step. We’ve seen incredible progress and couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend Megan for any parent looking for a great swim teacher!

All three of my children have learnt to swim at Sapphire. Staff at the desk are always very helpful and kind. Our favourite swim teachers so far have been Megan, who’s patience and brilliant teaching strategies have got all my children swimming distance unaided. Rosie is amazing with the little ones and gets to know each child. These positive early experiences have ensured my children have no fear but confidence in the water. George is kind, patient and understanding with children who have trouble listening and are distracted easily. Harry made swift progress with a patient and kind teacher. Thank you to all of my children’s swimming teachers and the ones they are yet to have.

Nice, way cleaner than most centers and has great swimming teachers, particularly a teacher named Charlotte, super nice to kids and very polite. Only issue is that the showers and VERY SMALL and super cramped so it’s quite wet, but overall best leisure centre by far

The gym is generally satisfactory, but it seems to be following a trend common among local borough gyms, where the pricing is becoming somewhat excessive. It is perplexing why a gym would charge £40 without offering a premium experience, similar to that of an Anytime Fitness. Furthermore, the quality of the restrooms and showers does not seem to justify the cost. The limited number of weight racks is also disappointing, and the lack of barbells, plates, and dumbbells is quite frustrating. Addressing these issues would greatly improve the gym. It seems these enhancements would be relatively straightforward to implement.

Booked on line . Took grandson who is 7 . Lady on reception nice and friendly . Changing rooms could have been cleaner ...floor was dirty, cubical had rubbish in it , toilets was clean . Not enough showers when getting out to wash .. grandson was going to party after swimming so wanted to wash his hair ,but in the end had to just have a quick shower as all cubicles with showers was taken with que of people waiting . Pool not to busy, but it is cold . Plenty of hairdryers .

My kids has been attending this club for 5–6 years and, although she swims very well (not perfect, but more than enough for the next level), has only advanced 2 levels in 5 years. Children do not learn anything new, receive no clear feedback, and coaches shout at them without patiently explaining what they need to do. Essentially, money is taken without the promised services being provided. This is extremely frustrating and discouraging for children!

Essex Wildlife Trust's Bedfords Park Nature Discovery Centre offers a fantastic day out for families, providing an opportunity to explore the wildlife and nature of the Essex countryside. Children can enjoy spotting badgers, hares, and red deer while breathing in the fresh air. The park features a decent-sized car park near a children's play area and a dog-friendly café with lovely entrances.
Fenomenal place to visit with a whole family! The whole deer feeding experience is fantastic! Everyone loved it and everyone was extremely happy! We had so much fun, and the walk around the lake was also great! Such a beautiful place! We will definitely be back again!

There is a decent size car park near the children's play area. Lovely little cafe that has two entrances, one for people with dogs. Dog friendly so you can get out of the bad weather and warm up after your walk. There is a red deer enclosure and the deer come right up to the fence. There's a wild flower area, a lake and it is a nature reserve. It will probably be very popular if it snows as there are some great slopes for tabboganing. Family friendly, definitely worth a visit
Sarah J — Google review
We arrived about midday for our first visit to this Essex Wildlife Trust site. The car park was fairly full but we found a space easily. There is a small walk from the carpark to the cafe, passing the Red deer enclosure, a number of deer were close to the fence, being fed by families. The weather was still a bit chilly but the sun was out. We started at the café that serves hot food, teas and cakes. After a coffee to warm us up we wandered down hill to the cow pond where there was a verity of geese and ducks and a couple of bench seats. We then walked back up the rear side of the deer enclosure back to the car. In all we spent a good couple of hours here but will return later in the year.

A lovely place for a walk with some walking tracks and great views. The deer enclosure is nice to see (take some carrots if you want to feed them). There's a visitor centre with some typical gift shop merchandise and cafe. Really nice to visit, quite unexpected being so close to urban areas. Lots of free car park spaces when I visited too.

Spent an afternoon here and I can say this place is amazing ,only had to drive like 20 minutes from where I live but it was totally worth it. The staff in the cafe also amazing , always smiling and kind . One of my favourite places so far and can't wait to go again.

Great park. Probably the best in the area to be honest. Long walks, great views and a real sense of being away from it all... even though it’s only 5 minutes away from the outskirts of Romford. Oh, plus the deer compound and the secret walled garden. Just to add to the allure!!! Update... they now have some new play equipment near the main car park. Fantastic!

Lovely open grounds. Perfect for dog walks and families. Red deer sanctuary, feel free to bring carrots and apples. Tea and cake shop with beautiful vista. Free parking.

Park
Havering Country Park is a serene and beautiful park that offers a great opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family. The park features a mature forest with magnificent redwoods, making it an ideal place for leisurely walks. It's common to encounter horse riders, dog walkers, and various wildlife such as muntjac deer, badgers, foxes, and woodpeckers along the meandering paths.
Great place. Perfect for a nature lover inside the city. Muddy and horse droppings road. So better take your Water resistance boots. Loved walking there. Mainly went for American Redwood trees. Amazing views. Horses.

Beautiful nature with animals and breathtaking views in places. ❗️There is a good spot for TickTockers with amazing views over London city. Havering Park has a rich history rooted in its former role as part of the estate of the Royal Palace of Havering, dating back to the 11th century. The palace, initially established by Edward the Confessor as a hunting lodge, was abandoned in the 17th century, and the land was later acquired by the McIntosh family. The park was eventually opened to the public in 1976.

I loved walking here. It was almost empty. I saw not more than 4 people. Beautiful redwood trees 🌳. Well kept and close. More people should visit Havering Parks. I’m considering starting a tour of them.

Tranquil Forest Walks at Havering Country Park 🌲🐄 Havering Country Park is a great spot for peaceful forest walks and a refreshing escape into nature. It offers plenty of charm, with well-trodden woodland paths and open grassy areas that make it ideal for a calming stroll or a quiet break from city life. I find the benches overlooking the flatlands especially peaceful and quiet—they’re perfect for sitting and soaking in the scenery. Sometimes it can get a little busy, especially on weekends, but that’s understandable given how pleasant the park is. It’s particularly popular with dog walkers, with lots of open space and wooded trails where dogs can roam freely. The forest paths give you that immersive countryside feel, making it easy to forget you’re still in London. One of the park’s highlights is seeing the horses and cows that graze in the nearby fields. Watching them resting or wandering adds a rural charm that makes the place feel like a slice of countryside tucked within the city. Generally, the park stays quiet during weekdays, making it a great place to unwind, reflect, or simply stretch your legs. Whether you’re visiting solo or with a dog or friend, Havering Country Park is a lovely green escape well worth exploring.

Specialty Museums
The Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia, located not far from Havering Boroughs, is a 15th-century barn associated with the local priory and connected to the influential Waltham Abbey. This grand thatched structure measures 45 meters in length and has never been used for collecting tithes, despite its name. Inside, visitors can explore a captivating collection of everyday objects from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Fascinating museum of local history, and random "stuff" in a beautiful old building.
Michael C — Google review
A wonderfully dusty collection of 19th and 20th century everyday objects. It is possible to rummage around here for hours. The dedicated volunteers who staff the museum are enthusiastic and engaged very well with the two kids that accompanied us.
Louis P — Google review
Went to an event here at night. Was dimly lit so was weary of footing. Seating slightly concerning, but was advised by hosts. The atmosphere and ambience was very beautiful inside a building so beautifully constructed. It smelt of the new wood, I loved this. I will visit in the day light. The car park is very unstable with large holes in the surface and in the dark dangerous. I definitely appreciated seeing the barn at night though
Deborah H — Google review
A scheduled Ancient Monument - Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia - is standing tall & wide by very poorly maintained Upminster Hall Visitors Car Park! Apart from a sign by the entrance - which is naturally missed by many - there is no other signs or interpretation text displaying this unique historic landmark and currently being used as a museum! And often, visitors to the playing fields do not know about the Tithe Barn even though parking their car right next to it! Tithe Barn dates from the 15th Century. It is used as an Agricultural and Folk Musuem managed by the Hornchurch & District Historical Society. As per the website, The museum holds around 14,500 artifacts of domestic and agricultural use, ranging from Roman times to the present day. Sadly, it is closed and no opening dates announced for 2022! Hope, there will be openings soon!
Muhammad H — Google review
Although the barn itself is 572 years old, the museum is actually a treasure trove of recent history with the collection a mish-mash of stuff from around approx the last 150 years. Take your grandparents and/or mum and dad if they are over 60 and they will love it as they will see tonnes of stuff they remember from their childhood...hence the name of the place (nostalgia). It's staffed by enthusiastic volunteers who are happy to answer any questions and also free and there is ample parking so you can't go wrong.
Philip J — Google review
Not disabled friendly no ramps, Car park is large but has as many craters as the moon. And could seriously damage your car. The tith barn is open very rarely and is staffed by volunteers . There's a children's play site a short distance away I would suggest go there instead.

Joshly A — Google review
The Park is what you would exepct in an urbanised town. It offers a decent bit of green space for people to partake in sports/dog walking, although this has been limted due to the recent constuction of hills. it also connects to the country park which is beautful. The park contains a few playgrounds which are kept in an alright condition. its good if you are taking the kids out for a day out to the park. The park would be nice during the summer for picnics with friends/family. Although I can't comment on the toilet facilties, I believe there may be some open near the golf course. The only thing I would be careful about is the loitering hooligans that sit in the park and stare at you for no reason towards the evening hours, as well as burnt out motorbikes/mopeds. This is at no fault of the park itself but it would be nice if police presence was increased.

Very large community park with number of excellent features. A brilliant and exciting place for bringing your family and/or young children for having a friendly football kick about or running or having fun in the Children's Play Areas. Very Good for taking a breeze walk, running, cycling or jogging or just have a quite time relaxing while sipping a cup of coffee in the beautiful scenic seating garden in the Kiosk - when it's open. Dagenham Civic Centre is in one corner which now hosts Coventry University London (CU London). Central Park Dagenham is made up of Public Toilets (now closed due to COVID-19), 3x FREE car parks, Adventure Play Area, Children's Play Area, 18-Holes Golf Course, Football Pitches, Rugby Pitches (including floodlights), Tennis Courts, Memorial Garden, Community Orchard, Kiosk by the Golf Course, Outdoor Gym, Pavilion, Nursery, Ambassador's Wood, large Green Space, and much more! The Peace and Memorial Garden: only recently found out about this place! A historic community memorial garden to remember the heroes and to improve the local communities! It is between the Civic Centre (currently CU London campus) and Fire Station. Trees at the Community Orchard are growing fast and are almost ready to mature - community can harvest and enjoy the fruits! The Orchard is managed organically & stands on wildlife meadowand mostly of 🍏 🍐 Trees. It was planted in 2015 in partnership with the local community marking the 50th Anniversary of the borough - Barking and Dagenham! Unless you are aware of this Orchard or aware of the Park inside out - one cannot find this Orchard easily! Signages around the park needs to be improved and thus, increasing the effective usage of this beautiful Park!

The Hop Inn, located on North Street, has been recognized as the top pub by the Campaign for Real Ale for two consecutive years. Upon entering, guests are warmly greeted by the owners Phil and Alison, who go out of their way to ensure a pleasant experience. The cozy atmosphere encourages friendly interactions among patrons, making it feel like meeting old friends. The pub offers a small yet high-quality selection of wines and ales, with keg ales served at an optimal temperature.
Visiting from SE London and meeting up with a friend and this is one of the friendliest bars I’ve ever visited. Owners introduced themselves on entry and table service ensued with great discussion around the beers available. A small range of lovely Belgian beers was available this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t fault this place in any way.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Perfect Wedding Day Pit Stop – Full of Love and Cider! The Hop Inn will always have a special place in our hearts! After our wedding ceremony at Langtons House and before the reception at Ardleigh House, we had a pre-arranged little “secret” stop at The Hop Inn — just the two of us, newly married, taking 10 quiet minutes to breathe, reflect, and raise a pint of their amazing Apple Pie cider together. It was our tiny slice of calm on a whirlwind day. Well, imagine our surprise (and theirs!) when 12 of our wedding guests had the exact same idea and showed up too! It turned into the most heartwarming, impromptu mini celebration — hugs, laughter, and cheers all around. We’ve always loved The Hop Inn, and it meant so much to include it in our big day. The team were friendly, welcoming, and totally embraced the unexpected moment with us. Honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Great drinks, great vibes, and a memory we’ll treasure forever. Thank you to everyone at The Hop Inn — you were a beautiful part of a beautiful day. 💛🍻

Great Ice rink, the Ice is always is well maintained, unless you are unlucky to to turn up right after they've played an icekockey match, you can expect close to perfect, dry ice. Skate hire included in the entry price, parking (free on Sundays) across the road.

A C — Google review
Great place to take people to experience ice skating. Reasonably priced tickets and does provide penguins for children to aid them in skating. Staff do help and check on you if you fall. However during holiday seasons or weekends it can get really packed and that does definitely ruin the skating experience due to fear of falling , especially if you are a beginner. But overall I always come here whenever I want to skate

Has a mother I didn't recommend this place for beginners kid teacher are very rude if child fall again and again atleast this is teacher job give advice and support, motivate the child,my son also feel that teacher not kind to him very bad experience but what can you do if your child find new activity you have to pay and enjoy and accept that kind of people and their unprofessional behaviour.

Good, reasonably sized ice rink with lots of seating, not too busy usually. If you go on Sunday there is also free parking in the car park across from here.
Brooklyn E — Google review
We went ice skating. But it starts sooo late at 8:15 pm on Sunday. If you have kids, you need to go with them and buy adult tickets, and hire boots for yourself too. So it's not so budget friendly if you have young kids. If adults are required to supervise the kids, they shouldn't be charged.

Love the Rink! My children have been going there since it opened and they still love it! ❤️ Learn to skate or Learn to Hockey are great beginners classes. On arrival were greeted at desk to be told that there was a 15 min wait ! I observed that there were vacant tables! To which I was told that they were booked ! So waited at the bar beer was good ghost ship ! On being seated and menu supplied we chose our options only to be told that 2 of 3 Sunday roast options were unavailable ! Turkey only which with no choice we ordered , turkey was clearly micro blasted and left under heat lamp to keep hot ! My wife is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment so has to be very careful what she eats and where ! This place has a large turnover of customers but I feel there should be no compromise with quality and standards ! When we left the table that we were told was booked was still vacant ! Strange! No keep you at the bar ! Would never go again !

A nice little green space with some benches. The 'Millenium' mosaic has not withstood the ravages of time and footfall. The benches need some tlc and the park has a neglected feel. Some grass cutting is carried out occasionally and the area of grass which is not cut is no doubt good for the wildlife.

Looks lovely but having got there we found dogs aren't allowed. Useful information to have had upfront.
Antony T — Google review
