Fort Perch Rock, a historic red sandstone fort constructed in the early 19th century as a coastal defense battery against potential French invasion, now serves as a museum and popular tourist attraction. The fort houses the Aviation and Archaeology Museum, featuring exhibits on Luftwaffe over Merseyside and the maritime history of ships like Titanic and Lusitania. Visitors can also explore the nearby Perch Rock Lighthouse, an iconic landmark standing at the tip of Wirral for nearly two centuries.
Although this is a small venue the vibe and atmosphere was brilliant. We went to see Tony Slattery which was basically a bit of Q&A for starters and then finished with some "Who's line is it anyway" shenanigans. Had a great night and would do it again at the drop of hat. Found out that there are other comedy nights held here and would definitely be back.
James T — Google review
I visited New Brighton and went to Fort Perch Rock hoping to see the museum which I understood was within the Fort. Unfortunately everything apart from The Mess cafe was closed and looked as if it had been for some time. The location at the head of the Mersey is superb however.
JOHN A — Google review
Picturesque and worth visiting, however found more information about it's history from outside of the fort and online. Liked the idea of the cafe, but on entering it was very dark and dismal. We didn't feel comfortable so walked out and went elsewhere. Still, it was nice to see from the outside and it's worth doing your own research. For someone who lives the other side of the country and hadnt heard of it before visiting the area, it personally just doesn't feel like they've made the most of it's history and has alot more potential.
Haley K — Google review
A really nice cafe bar where we had Scouse, a potato ash stew with lovely fresh bread and butter, pickled beetroot and pickled red cabbage. The red cabbage was pretty awful but the rest was lovely, very tasty. Free parking and lots of space for the dog to have a run around,, we had a really lovely day here.

Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton* is a fascinating historic site that beautifully combines coastal charm with military history. Originally built as a coastal defence fortress in the 19th century, it stands proudly near the mouth of the River Mersey. While it’s no longer open to the public as it once was, the exterior alone is worth a visit. The fort's striking presence against the sea, especially at sunset, offers great photo opportunities. Surrounded by a scenic promenade and sandy beaches, it’s a peaceful spot to relax and reflect. A great stop for history lovers and casual visitors alike.
Muhammad K — Google review
I have visited this landmark on Eid, it was a fantastic experience, all the locals are great and helpful, the supermarkets are nearby too and there are many public chairs to set and enjoy the views or if you like to walk around it’s even better.
Mohsen S — Google review
Fort Perch Rock in Liverpool is an impressive red sandstone fort from the 1820s built to guard the Port of Liverpool and now open to visitors as a museum and event space. You reach it via a short causeway with views over Liverpool Bay that are perfect for photos at sunset. Inside you find military and maritime displays alongside a small café called The Mess that often hosts live music, comedy and talks. There is also an escape room attraction that adds a fun twist to the visit. Staff keep the site well maintained and the fort itself feels authentic with solid walls and an engaging history. It is a good choice for anyone looking to explore local heritage while enjoying the sea air on Merseyside’s coast.
Patrik K — Google review
There is not much to do in the fort itself, it is closed and not interesting. There is a pub and that is it. The beach around is large and and there are places to sit. Lots of parking around

Art museum
Lady Lever Art Gallery, located in Port Sunlight, is a stunning classical stone building that showcases an impressive collection of Victorian paintings, Wedgwood ceramics, and 18th-century furniture. The gallery also features world-famous Pre-Raphaelite artworks and exquisite Chinese ceramics. Visitors can explore the rich history of Chester at the Grosvenor Museum and delve into social history at the Museums Period House.
Superb few hours spent at port sunlight. The art gallery was the cherry on the top. Lovely pieces of art and building that houses them. Although it is free to enter. I hope everybody pays a tiny £5 for the privilege as it needs funds for up keep. Same as the church. You can donate by just tapping. Had a nice lunch at the gallery. All I all glad we went.
Carol M — Google review
A really nice and interesting museum. It was very quiet on Saturday morning so we could walk around calmly and enjoy everything. After that we bought some nice souvenirs in the gift shop. The lady at the counter was very friendly!
Melissa R — Google review
Brilliant place, worth a visit, its full of excellent artefacts, tapestry, paintings, sculptures, thank you for sharing this lovely place. The surrounding area is also worth a visit. The cafe was A1, coffee was so nice and rich, cakes were moist, fresh and we ended up having several cakes. The scones were also fresh and enjoyable. The young brunette lady who served was brilliant and polite and very helpful. Definitely recommend this place.
B S — Google review
Wonderful building, so many interesting artefacts, furniture, paintings, sculpture, and many themed rooms to explore - we will need to return as there was so much to see. The smaller cafe is in a beautiful room with the domed stained glass ceiling - we had nice coffee & cake. Lovely neighbourhood too. I look forward to our next visit.
Sarah M — Google review
A lovely art gallery with some interesting and delightful pieces. A bonus was the Jim Muir exhibition! Cafe only takes contactless card and they had no gluten free/vegan cake, so they lost one star because I couldn't have a treat! 😂
Mrs M — Google review
Easy to get to, and Port Sunlight village surrounding the gallery is an architectural gem in itself. The wide range of exhibits inside the gallery reflect the 'typical' breadth of interests of Lord Lever's family. Sculptures, paintings, ornaments, and furniture from across the globe and spanning Millennia mean there's always something to view. An added bonus was the Jim Moir exhibition of his bird paintings. The cafe in the basement provided good fare too.
Paul M — Google review
Easy to park, right outside. Give yourself 2-3 hours to wander. Well worth a visit, it is free. The museum of Port Sunlight is opposite too. Everything is labelled, loved it.
Tiddy I — Google review
We were there on Tuesday and no problem with parking. I went to see Jim Moir's paintings of birds which are fabulous, especially the one of the large ravens head showing the reflection of the Tower of London. The rest of the exhibits in the gallery were amazing from the old masters, furniture and pottery. Stopped in the cafe for coffee and cake half way round the place. It was a good afternoon out, I recommend it, well worth a visit. No tickets needed, they just ask for a £5 donation and worth every penny.

Nature & Parks
Birkenhead Park, also known as the Peoples Garden, is a Victorian park designed by Sir Joseph Paxton. It features woodland walks, play areas, two fishing lakes, a modern visitor center and cafe. This park is believed to have inspired Central Park in New York. Opened in 1847, it was the first purpose-built park for the entire population and was funded by public money to be freely accessible to all regardless of social class or wealth.
Such a lovely park, the only downside is you can get lost if you are new. It's good to keep an eye on the route. Just peaceful ✌️ lovely playgrounds for people to play and family-friendly.
Dafney G — Google review
The park that New York's central park was based on. Lovely nature walk, plenty to see and do. Marauding squirrels! The kids [15 yes] enjoyed it as well and even took turns on the outdoor gym equipment too.
Kerenza J — Google review
Great park, huge but well kept, visitors centre with history of the park, toilets and a café
Dave F — Google review
Beautiful, clean, and peaceful! Great trails, a fun playground, and plenty of space to relax. Perfect for families or a quiet day outdoors—highly recommend.
Jebin M — Google review
A lovely park that's very well kept. Go here often with our dogs.
Graeme J — Google review
Lovely place with tons of history. Very wheelchair friendly and great place to take the dog. Nice cafe at the visitor centre with a good display of the history timeliness of the park. Only downside is that parking is more difficult si centre you can no longer drive into the park itself.
Sam N — Google review
I absolutely love this beautiful park! It's a peaceful place of the city, perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. There's so much to see and do whether you're taking a walk, having a picnic, or just watching local wildlife. Friendly squirrels and pigeons, who will even eat from your hand. The only downside is that the water in the ponds could be a bit cleaner, but overall, it’s a wonderful place.
Tereza H — Google review
Nice big park, plenty of open grass fields as well as areas with trees and paths, water to walk around, and playgrounds. Wildlife includes ducks, geese, coots, seagulls, pigeons, and squirrels that come right up to your feet to see if you brought any food. The park is split between an upper and a lower park (you have to cross a road to get from one to the other), with the lower park having a bunch of fitness equipment along the paths. There are plenty of benches for those who need a rest or just want to enjoy the views, and also enough maps to avoid getting lost.

Wallasey Beach is a perfect destination for a family day out, offering golden sands and opportunities for picnics, windsurfing, and kite surfing. It's also recommended by the Marine Conservation Society for its well-preserved environment. The beach is dog-friendly and provides ample space for pets to play. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk along the clean beach or explore the nearby attractions such as an old lighthouse.
Lovely beach lots of parking and a pub either end of the prom if that’s what you’re after. Good spot for less light pollution and recently for incredible northern lights viewing due to less light pollution.
Kirsten H — Google review
Great day out, out first time visiting this place on a beautiful, sunny day. The water is salty, clean and great. The sand is amazing, golden and soft. Heavenly to walk barefooted or run. Parking is close to the beach but I'd suggest going early in the morning if you have any hopes of finding a spot as it's nightmare in the afternoon. Toilets nearby as well and clean beyond my expectations! Not crowded, not dirty and monitored by lifeguards which is an added bonus. Great place to spend a day out and relax!
Alexandra B — Google review
The beach changes every tide. Difficult to walk on last night. Watch out for incoming tides, it's pretty flat so you can get caught out!
Mike C — Google review
Lovely beach. Great for families. Car parking free, but gets full when busy.
Smarter M — Google review
Try to avoid toll Road . It’s a beautiful beach to spend evening. Kids can play around. If water level is low then it ll be very muddy and recommend to use slippers not shoes
Praveen S — Google review
It was nice sendy beach and a lot of seashell over there. Big massive free car park area, by the sea and off road as well. Water was not too deep but shallow one. Kids enjoyed and spent couple of hours in water. And dog friendly as well.
Muhammad S — Google review
Wallasey Beach is absolutely stunning , the water is so clear and blue it looks like something from a postcard. It’s clean, peaceful, and a beautiful place to spend the day. Now, about those stones. They are vicious little foot-destroyers. Step on them barefoot and you’ll feel like you’re walking on a path of knives. My daughter’s foot ended up cut and bleeding — it’s basically a hidden trap for toes. Wear shoes unless you have a secret desire to limp home.
Rashid — Google review
This is an absolutely beautiful place , great place for a long walk with your dog . or a day out with kids . On hot days you can get an icecream or have a meal& a drink from the nearby Derby Pool . Its a great place ,we go all year round .

New Brighton Beach is a picturesque seaside destination with a mix of natural beauty and historical landmarks. The expansive golden sand beach is perfect for leisurely strolls, sunbathing, or building sandcastles on sunny days. Visitors can also admire the iconic Perch Rock lighthouse and fort, offering insights into the area's maritime history. A short train journey from Liverpool via Merseyrail makes it easily accessible for a day trip.
Lovely seaside town, with a huge, very clean promenade. Never knew this place existed. Beach when the tides out is awesome. Lots of local Arcades, food bars, cafes, pubs & supermarkets etc. Brilliant in the sun, will return.
Lewis W — Google review
New Brighton beach has lovely sand and views. It's got an old-school charm but finding a bathroom can be a pain. Really enjoyed my time there. Will recommend... I got Free Parking as well
Adebowale A — Google review
Great to find free parking here in New Brighton, There is also many disabled parking spots to be had. Had a nice walk down the front and also had coffee at the Fort where you can use the toilets and they have a nice seating area inside where you can check where the battery was that defended Liverpool in world war 2. All in all its a really well kepted clean place with plenty todo for the kids as there's a small theme park with some nice rides like the pirate ship. Every time we have visited there seems to be and icecream van with really nice soft scoop ice cream. We had a great afternoon here with an extended walk along the front. We'll worth a visit we will be coming back in the near future.
Michael C — Google review
New Brighton Beach exceeded all expectations. The sandy shoreline is spacious and clean, perfect for long walks or just lounging under the sun. The views across the Mersey are absolutely stunning, especially at sunset – a photographer’s dream! There’s plenty to do for everyone: kids love the promenade and the funfair nearby, while adults can enjoy the cafés, bars, and independent shops just a stone’s throw from the beach. Even on busy days, the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming. Whether you're local or visiting, it's the kind of place that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Already looking forward to my next trip!
AJAY S — Google review
Was not impressed to see fishing from the pier haha but found some beach for the dogs at far end near the fair. Had a lovely dinner at my fav cafe, sausages for the dogs naturally. Lots of pleasant people, talking to strangers like the good old days.. lots of memories with family here, will always have a place in my heart. Definately recommend visiting here, plenty to see, cafe's and outlets offering a huge variety of food, grass and beach for dogs/kids (just PLEASE keep your dog leashed if no recall - fed up of disrespectful owners getting dogs in trouble) - also the slots and funfair.
Bex M — Google review
New Brighton Beach is a wonderful spot for a relaxing day out with family or friends. The promenade is clean and vibrant, offering stunning views of the sea and Liverpool skyline. There’s a great mix of activities — from grabbing an ice cream or fish and chips to strolling along the pier or exploring the historic Perch Rock Fort. The beach itself is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful and family-friendly. Kids will love the shallow waves, and the wide walkway makes it perfect for scooters and bikes. There’s also free parking nearby, which is a huge bonus! The only downside is that the sandy area is relatively small compared to other beaches, especially during high tide. It can get a bit crowded on sunny days if you're looking to spread out or build sandcastles. However, it doesn’t take away from the charm and overall experience of the place.
Karim K — Google review
New Brighton Beach is a well-kept and spacious coastal area that provides excellent views across the River Mersey towards Liverpool’s city skyline. The wide sandy shore is perfect for long walks, family outings, or simply relaxing by the water. There are plenty of nearby cafes and facilities, making it convenient to spend a full day here. The promenade is clean and accessible, and the atmosphere is generally calm and friendly. It’s a great alternative to busier city beaches and works well for anyone wanting fresh sea air without travelling too far from Liverpool.
Patrik K — Google review

Port Sunlight Museum and Garden Village is a picturesque 19th-century model village established by William Hesketh Lever for his soap factory workers. The village, set in 130 acres of well-maintained parkland with mature trees, features around 900 houses and several larger 'principal' buildings, most of which are Grade II listed. The museum on site delves into the history of the village, while visitors can also enjoy a visit to the tea room.
This is such a beautiful village, with great history. Free parking BONUS, the tea rooms are lovely great service and the scones are amazing, my daughter had a vegan cake which was equally as good. Already planning a return visit when all the rides are open.
Sue R — Google review
Excellent little museum covering the history of Port Sunlight, from the beginnings of the Sunlight Soap brand created by Lever Brothers, to the design and construction of the village. Stories from past residents of the village add a personal element, and a short film complements the written displays. Tickets at the time of my visit in spring 2025 seemed decent value at £8, and are valid for a year from the date of purchase. The price includes access to the Worker's Cottage, a house preserved as it would have appeared in the early 1900s, helping bring the history of Port Sunlight to life. The museum is very well presented and includes a small gift shop and toilet facilities. It's well worth a visit to get the most from your visit to Port Sunlight.
Andrew T — Google review
The museum doesn't open until 10am but there wasn't a queue at that time. It's only a small place with an attached gift shop. There is a workman cottage that you can go in next door. You can even go upstairs if you want. There's also an art gallery just opposite which is free entry. There's also a walking tour but we hadn't booked that so not sure what you see or how long it is. It's a beautiful place and there's plenty to see if you take a walk around. It's also a shame that there aren't tours around the factory. All in all a beautiful place to visit
Theresa B — Google review
A lovely afternoon at Port Sunlight. We visited the museum/cottage for £8 ( can return for free within 12 months) and found it all very interesting. Then we visited the Lady Lever Art Gallery which was free and also saw the Jim Moir exhibition (Dawn til Dusk) and had very nice cake and coffee in the pop up tea room under one of the domes. After that we enjoyed walking around the model village. A nice afternoon out.
Karen P — Google review
Pleasant walk around the village. An historic area built for the workers of Unilever over a century ago. This is a small museum dedicated to the building of the village and life of the workers living there. There is also Lady Levers Art Museum it has some great examples of pre-Raphaelite art on display, entry/admission is free (note Art gallery closed Mondays, included coffee shop). There are two other coffee/tea shops within the village, collect a free map in the Portsunlight Museum gift shop for directions.
Francis W — Google review
Excellent museum and very well laid out. Friendly staff, l would definitely recommend a visit here.
Christine G — Google review
The story behind this town is extraordinary. You can find out more on line than my summary. Easy access via merseyrail trains. Or drive and park. A town with gallery, museum, walks, pub, church, dance hall and.mich.more. built for workers by the owner. But one who wanted people to get more than just a house and poor pay. Go on visit it. You can spend 3 or more hours within the town. More of you add the museum and art gallery £16. Online tours aplenty just Google the village. In the church look for the dedication in the main stained glass window, it says it all about the man who built this place

The Williamson Art Gallery & Museum, established in 1928, is a treasure trove of art and culture. Housed in a neo-Georgian building, it showcases a diverse collection of Victorian paintings, watercolors, and decorative arts. Visitors can admire works by renowned artists like Albert Joseph Moore and Philip Wilson Steer while exploring the Maritime Gallery's antique ship models.
Such a gem! I finally visited it and absolutely I loved it. It’s way bigger than I expected and has such a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Everyone working there is super friendly — the kind of place where they actually smile and seem happy to chat. It’s free to get in, which already feels like a win, but the collection is genuinely interesting too. They’ve got some beautiful paintings, old ship models (which are cooler than they sound), and some really fun temporary exhibitions that change regularly — definitely not boring stuff gathering dust. There’s parking around the back, and a cute little coffee shop with homemade cakes and a nice garden where you can sit outside. Such a chill way to spend an hour or two — I’ll definitely be going back.

Originally started going 6 years ago (according to google). Regularly pop down now to explore the exhibitions and check out performances. Great focus on local artists which is really important. Conservation focus. The cafe is brilliant and really relaxing. Certainly worth a visit.

Royden Country Park is a sprawling 200-acre nature site that offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park includes Roodee Mere, where fishing is permitted with the appropriate license. Visitors can also enjoy picnicking, visit a walled garden, grab a bite at the on-site cafe, or take a ride on the miniature train.
Great park with expansive woodland leading onto Thurstaston common. Lots of good parkland for picnics or a kick about and the woods are really well maintained with excellent paths which are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Also has two steam miniature railways run by volunteers, so it's amazing for kids and big kids alike. Carpark is good but does charge, has basic toilet facilities and cafe.

Absolutely cracking park with lots of different walks. Be careful, though, there's not a lot of marked walkways, so it is easy to become a bit disoriented if you don't know it well or like to just wander where your feet take you. Still, it's a great place to get lost and enjoy the various views and habitats.

Love woodland area to go for a walk with the family. On a Sunday there are miniature trains you can ride for a small donation. Lovely lake to walk round. Nice little cafe card only payments. Also you have to pay to park. Overall lovely place to walk with the family

Great place to walk the dogs. Beautiful park and a lovely cafe on the way back to the car park that has a good menu selection. We always go for the scones with jam and clotted cream with a pot of tea! Delicious

Absolutely love this place!!! 40 min drive from Liverpool City centre and such a gorgeous bit of nature!!! The trees are amazing!!! Parking is cheap and well worth it. There's a mini railway, toilets and a cafe although never been. Great walk for the dog in all weather! Can get a really muddy in the winter but the most gorgeous in the autumn

Royden park is a gem in the wirral such a beautiful country park which often gets overlooked. There are so many walks and trails to explore which makes it a great place for dog walking and taking the kids as it never gets stale. The park also features a seasonal miniature steam railway which is fantastic to see and popular with all (do check online first as it only runs on certain days) there is a fishing lake which is so peaceful and a nice place to stop and take a seat. There is a large car park which usually always has spaces and is approx £1.00 per hour. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.

Good place for the kids with a play area and lots of drift wood characters not to mention the fairies and whatnot placed about the trees etc.

Beautiful spot on the Mersey waterfront! Excellent for strolling and playing. This is kept to an exceptionally high standard by local people who take great pride in their locality. The most amazing sense of warmth and genuine welcome from those who care for THEIR park is felt immediately. What a treasure this is!

Eureka! Science + Discovery is an interactive science and technology center where learning is made fun. Visitors can explore the world around them through various hands-on activities and exhibits. The staff are praised for their exceptional customer service, going above and beyond to engage with visitors and make their experience enjoyable. While some mention the need to buy tickets in advance and the relatively high cost of admission, others appreciate the option of turning a single visit into an annual pass for unlimited access throughout the year.
Very engaging and quite novelty science museum for kids. Annual passes same cost as a day ticket. That's encouraging (site specific) Accessibility friendly. There's a large cafe and inclusive options for vegan or avoiding milk. Sensory room or wheelchairs available. Very considerate and charming staff. We hoped to take a ferry after but weekends no commuter ferries. Mersey ferries share the location. Under 7s have ab extra play zone. The kids attended 3 workshops. 1 wasn't worth the time. The sensory show was a highlight although some kids in the audience didn't behave well, the presenter was unphased (quite impressive for the level of interruption)

A really good family day out. Was sceptical at first due to the ticket price but then realised that that full price ticket is an annual pass and we can go back as many times as we like during the year. The activities for the kids were engaging and exciting. We spent nearly 5 hours there. The Burrows and the Cafe were great also. Would highly recommend.

I go to eureka regularly and my kids and I love it!! The shows in the theatre are amazing! The burrow is so good for them to get creative building with the blue blocks and museum is so well done. The staff are always helpful and friendly and we always have a great day. Thank you Eureka!

Decent activities, can spend a few hours there easily. Not as comprehensive as the original one. As with many educational places, let down by it's own practices. Signs about the importance of looking after the climate and environment, gift shop full of soon-to-be landfill.

Visited the older site in Halifax many times before. This was a nice new fresh museum, with different exhibits. We went on an inset day, which made it very quiet so our daughter could spend longer on the exhibits she liked, and also got to torment all of the staff who were around looking after the different areas.
Collin P — Google review
Took my 9-year old niece. My biggest irritation was the effort spent lecturing visitors on plastic use and recycling in the exhibits didn’t extend to the gift shop, which was full of cheap plastic tat. Not the best look. If you’re going to preach these values, live them please. It was a decent couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon, not particularly busy. It’s shiny and there are some cool interactive elements. We both enjoyed the craft area.

Lovely little trip to Eureka in the wirral! Kids got in free with their blue peter badges 💙 so much to see and do! We did the splash lab and did experiments with water and then headed to the water show, they where both 30 minutes long so it breaks up the day. Their is a couple of tables to sit and have your picnic. The food is reasonable. But queues was busy. There are 2 car parks, one of the machines where very slow. So headed to the other car park to get a ticket or you can pay for the car park inside the place.

The Black Pearl is a unique treasure located at New Brighton beach in Wallasey, constructed by local artists using items found on the beach. This famed pirate ship features tall masts with pirate flags and a wooden hull, attracting visitors of all ages. The picturesque shoreline offers an ideal location for leisurely hours, adorned with unique artifacts made from recycled materials. Visitors can also enjoy a nice walk along the long, clean sandy beach and take in views of the city center across the water.
Lovely little attraction on a nice walk. The sand is nice and soft too. Just be careful if your kids are a little unsteady on their feet because the step to get on is just a round log and is slippery even when dry. There is also a nice fairy garden a further 10 minutes down the path that has lots of models of houses made of twigs etc. And then fairys! Was a nice family walk out with friends in great weather.

Lots open spaces wide promenade. Sandy beach area wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Been here few years ago the wooden ship has unfortunately deteriorated alot.

A novelty play area for kids (and big kids!). Made from smooth-edged driftwood and built to look like a beached pirate ship, this is a great place to bring the kids. It's on a lovely sandy little enclave on the edge of the Mersey estuary amd is very popular for families, with plenty else to do nearby. I docked it a star because last time we went, the ship's wheel turned but this time it was bolted tight.

A great place to stroll with family and friends and natter. Plenty of seating is available along the whole walkway.

Good beach but loads of jelly fish. The Black Pearl was disintegrated, only a few pieces of wood around. But defiantly worth a visit as the light house isn't to far from it. Kids loved it...

What an unusual stop!! I've been to Liverpool before but never this side of the mersey and it was a treat, the beach was long and good for a walk, the black pearl itself was an unusual find and the view of city centre was immense! I definitely suggest the walk if you are around Liverpool!

Amazing life size model of a pirate ship complete with wheel, mast and cannons! My partner and I loved running about acting like children on the ship! (Even though we are both in our 20's) Great fun to be had by all.

Fabulous Free adventurous fun for the Kids! Space for Picnics and relaxing whilst the kids play on the Ship. The Black Pearl seems like a welcome addition to a somewhat otherwise drab beach front. Great views of Liverpool Docks, if you're children love Cranes. Also you can see multiple Wind Turbines, tall buildings, Anfield and the Tip. We also saw a Cruise Ship coming in which the kids found great! Must visit with the little ones this Summer 😊

Situated on the iconic Albert Dock, The Beatles Story Museum is a must-see for enthusiasts of the legendary band. It offers an immersive experience into the lives and journey of The Beatles through a collection of memorabilia, interactive displays, and cutting-edge exhibits. Visitors can trace the band's humble beginnings in Liverpool to their rise to global stardom.
The Beatles Story Museum was different than I anticipated, but highly enjoyable! We were greeted by kind and welcoming staff at the door and purchased tickets when we arrived. The ticket includes the audio guide, which isn’t just an enhancement, but a really essential part of the visit. The audio guide tells the story of the Beatles as you move from room to room. So it’s a combination of recreations and memorabilia, organized in a way to walk you through their story. I found it interesting and insightful. We were there just over an hour, though your visit could be longer if you listened to every bonus video and feature on the audio guide. Self-guided tour ends with a cafe and then a huge gift shop. So glad we did this when visiting Liverpool. It was different than anticipated, but in a good way!
Alyssa B — Google review
Not knowing what to expect and not really a big fan of museums we were pleasantly surprised at how good this was. The staff were very friendly and the audio was easy to use giving details as you walked around. The immersive areas were fantastic, walking around each area with background music really brought things to life. The yellow submarine, the cavern club, strawberry fields, abbey road, penny Lane... everything was amazing. We visited the actual cavern club the night before and the room in the museum was exactly the same. We are so glad we visited. The shop, cafe and discovery area where you could dress up as a beetle were all great too. Highly recommend, probably the best place we visited in Liverpool.
Paula — Google review
We had an AMAZING experience at The Beatles Story. Went on a Monday in the late morning. There were 4 of us, including our 8 year old Beatles obsessed son. The self guided audio tour allowed a lot of flexibility for our multi generational group. The exhibits were spot on and great photo ops! Learned a ton, had a blast! Definitely recommend!
Amanda N — Google review
It was really good. The replica of the cavern club and the yellow submarine were great. The shop is extensive with loads of beatles merch that my kids are now enjoying. Overall a great day The only downside was everyone walking around with the headphones and little tablets. Almost felt like I was in a zombie apocalypse. I had to keep interrupting my party to chat about it, or be interrupt myself when they wanted to chat.
Heather W — Google review
I recently visited The Beatles Story at the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool, and it was an unforgettable experience! The museum beautifully captures the journey of The Beatles — from their early days in Liverpool and Hamburg to their rise as global music icons. The immersive exhibits, original memorabilia, and lifelike recreations of the Cavern Club and Abbey Road were amazing. The audio guide, included with the ticket, made the visit even more engaging, with detailed storytelling and music clips that bring the history to life. The flow of the museum is well-organized, and I recommend spending at least 1.5 to 2 hours to explore it fully. 🎟️ Tickets can be booked online (around £20 for adults) and it’s best to reserve in advance, especially on weekends or holidays. The staff were friendly and everything was easy to navigate. 🚆 Getting there: The museum is at Royal Albert Dock — about a 20-minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street Station or a 5-minute walk from James Street Station. Buses and taxis are also convenient, and parking is available nearby. 💡 Visitor tips: • Go early to avoid crowds. • Don’t skip the audio guide — it adds so much depth! • Combine your visit with nearby attractions like the Maritime Museum or Tate Liverpool. • Wear comfortable shoes and take time to browse the Fab4 Café and souvenir shop. Overall, The Beatles Story is a must-visit for fans and even those with a casual interest in music history. It’s emotional, nostalgic, and very well presented — a true tribute to the Fab Four! 🎶
Shanz S — Google review
Very nice experience with a great history behind the band. You go down the steps into the entrance and are invited to have a green screen photo of yourselves as the beetles, Headsets are provided with short video's shown as you go around and yes you can sit down at various stops and enjoy the story, art, photos and videos of your self guided tour it IS a place to visit if your visiting the UK and enjoy old music and history made and shaped modern sound you have today. I provided a FEW photo's but you will have to visit to enjoy what's there ! Ps The staff are very friendly as are the locals who will guide you to and through the venue 👍
Pete D — Google review
I brought my 2 children (5 and 8) for my son’s birthday and they loved it. I wasn’t sure if they would enjoy the headsets but they loved following the numbers and finding out all about the Beatles history. We even got to sit at John Lennon’s piano as it was my son’s birthday. The discovery zone was fab and the cafe even had a play area for them so I got some peace at the end. Loved it x

Another Place by Antony Gormley is a captivating art installation featuring 100 life-size male statues made of cast iron. These statues stretch for about 1.5 miles along the picturesque estuary at Crosby Beach. The sculptures, created by the renowned artist behind the Angel of the North, offer a unique and surreal experience as they are partially submerged in sand and sometimes surrounded by water.
On a bright sunny day, what a fantastic beech to visit. Check tide tables for low tide in order to see the statuses. 100 over a 2 mile stretch of beech. Wear suitable footwear as the beech will be very wet in patches. Great to take your pet for a walk. Status's are good to see up close. You'll also notice a lot of rubble near the shore. This is from war bombed house. A smallish carpark near by,that's not to expensive. A few vans selling coffee etc food also there.
Martin — Google review
I visited with my 23 year old son and we were both astonished with this art installation. Seeing the statues dotted about on the flat sand was breathtaking. It was great we could go and stand right next to them and check them out. We then drove a little further up the coast where there were hardly anybody about. It was surreal looking out and knowing every "person" we could see, was one of the statues. Fantastic to know the statues will be here permanently, as originally, they were due to me taken somewhere else on display. My only criticism is that there are none along the promenade. It would have been great for people with poor mobility , wheelchair users and so on , to be able to see one close up. Other option would be to build a walkway onto the sand to allow access. Maybe this could be considered. Moving one to the hard surface or building accessible platform?,
Lin H — Google review
Fabulous place to visit along Crosby Beach, with excellent free car parking next to the nearby Leisure Centre and a very short walk through the sand dunes. The 100 statues by Anthony Gormley are spread over a huge portion of the beach and you need to plan your visit to coincide with the tide being out to enjoy the full magnificence of all of these statues.
Tony J — Google review
Beautiful setting for beautiful statues - easy to park at the leisure centre, even some smelly porta-loos available. Lovely walk as the tide was out, seeing the difference in the iron men as they have weathered overtime is interesting. Great evening walk
Sara C — Google review
Surreal, Striking, and Surprisingly Calming — A Walk with Iron Men and a Cat Crosby Beach’s Another Place is the kind of location that feels quietly iconic. It doesn’t scream for attention—it just is. A long, flat expanse of sand that stretches far out to the horizon, dotted with 100 life-sized iron men staring eternally out to sea. It’s eerie. It’s peaceful. And it’s absolutely one of the more memorable experiences you can have on the northwest coast. We visited on a calm, slightly overcast day and brought Shelby the cat with us, who trotted along the beach on her harness like a little beach inspector, occasionally sniffing at the base of the statues as if trying to understand their silent purpose. It's not every day your cat gets to meet a hundred iron strangers, each half-submerged in the tide, some barnacled with age, others standing clean and tall against the skyline. There’s a surreal rhythm to the way they’re spaced across the beach—some visible only as silhouettes when the tide is in, others standing bold on the sand when it’s out. From ground level, it’s captivating enough. But getting drone footage changed everything. Seeing it from above gives you this visual repetition that makes the installation look almost endless. The alignment, the geometry, the way the tide creeps up around them—it becomes less like a sculpture and more like some strange dreamscape. The aerial view really emphasises how hauntingly beautiful and simple the whole setup is. Access is straightforward. There's free parking in places and paid options nearby if you're closer to the main entrance. The walk to the beach is flat and open, ideal for all abilities, and perfect for a gentle stroll or an extended wander. Just be aware the tide comes in fast. If you're heading out toward the statues furthest from shore, don’t hang around too long or you’ll be wading your way back. On our visit, we saw joggers, dog walkers, families, couples—all taking it in at their own pace. The beach is wide enough that it never feels crowded. It’s a place that absorbs people without ever feeling busy. The air has that perfect salty mix of wind and seaweed. Gulls wheel overhead. The wind carries faint snippets of laughter, conversation, and that occasional sound of waves sucking at the sand. It’s strangely meditative. What really makes this place different is how alive the sculptures feel despite being static. They all face the same direction—towards the sea—and you can’t help but feel a pull in that direction too. It's art you can walk around, lean on, photograph, or ignore entirely as part of the landscape. The changing tides constantly reshape the experience. No two visits are the same. Shelby, for her part, was completely unfazed. She padded through the sand, sniffed some seaweed, and even stood still long enough to get a few drone shots of her near one of the statues—a moment we’ll probably never get again. It's not exactly a typical cat day out, but it summed up the place: unexpected, strange, oddly serene. --- Final Thoughts Crosby Beach and Another Place won’t be everyone’s idea of an ‘attraction’—there are no cafes on the sand, no ice cream stalls or visitor centre right on top of the artwork. But that’s its charm. It’s raw, open, and quietly powerful. A place where weather matters, time matters, and silence speaks volumes. Come for the art, stay for the atmosphere—and if you’ve got a camera or a drone, it’s a dream setting. Just remember to check the tide tables, wrap up if the wind’s in, and give the Iron Men a moment. They’ve been waiting patiently.
Phil K — Google review
Love Anthony Gormleys work, so perfect for Crosby beach. We first visited over 20 years ago, and you can see how the figures are weathering in the landscape. Very well worth a visit

Very neat artwork of the artist himself strewn across Crosby Beach that seems like it goes on forever. When it’s low tide you can venture further out, but beware there’s spots you can sink into and can be very dangerous.

Me & the boys loved our first visit here on Sunday 22/6. Ticket price last for 12months too, Brucie Bonus. From arrival it was a great experience. The staff were good banter too. We walked around each zone/decades and took it all in at our leisurely pace. We were in there for nearly 2hrs. Each zone was interesting and well put together. The Gibson garage at the end was a treat, we were like kids in a sweet shop playing the guitars and drums: brilliant that part. And the gift shop was excellent too; some great items and pretty reasonable prices too. Band t-shirts, books, coasters, plectrums, tote bags, pens, posters: loads!! And a nice cafe and nice clean toilets: they’ve got it all covered. So if you’re a music fan, get yourself here, simple.

I absolutely love this museum! If I ever had the chance to work here, I’d take it in a heartbeat. As a huge music enthusiast, I truly enjoyed exploring the history of iconic bands and artists, and seeing their tour outfits displayed in the cabinets. I even had fun trying out the drums and using the vocal booth myself. I’m from Bradford, but honestly, if I lived in Liverpool I’d be here every day! Highly recommend this place to any fellow music lovers :D 🎸🥁🎤🫶🏻

I was born in 1955 and this journey through British pop music starts a little earlier with skiffle and goes all the way through each era to the present day. Came here on the first day of the Live Aid pop up, and I was delighted to purchase the official calendars and singles of ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ and ‘Feed the World’ which have been locked away since 1986/7! On top of that, the whole experience was a must see/do. Zooming through the 50s to the 60s right up until present day. Concluding with (my favourite part), the recording studio and drums/bass/guitars mini digital lessons. It was a real treat and a must do when in Liverpool!

Fantastic place to visit. Great memories looking at the items on display. There are some great interactive items from a dance stage to the chance to play some classics keyboards and guitars. Spent long there than I expected, so much to see and do. Would highly recommend a visit for all music fans. Shop has a good selection of items. There is also a cafe and even some lockers so you don't have to be carrying too much around. Staff are great, and our tickets allow us to return, which we intend to do later in the year.

Situated in the charming town of New Brighton, the Floral Pavilion Theatre offers a diverse range of live performances, including music, comedy, drama, and family shows. With a focus on community engagement, the theater aims to provide affordable and entertaining events for audiences from Wirral and beyond. Overlooking the picturesque River Mersey on the promenade, it provides a stunning backdrop for pre-event photos.
Great venue on the seafront, large comfortable theatre and foyer. I particularly enjoyed the 10 min walk in the starlight during the interval. There’s a free car park opposite the venue with plenty of space, max 3 min walk if, like me, you’re running late. Staff are very attentive and helpful. I didn’t get any snacks or drinks so unsure on pricing

Lovely little theatre. Feels like a little hidden jewel for small productions but totally surprised by the show yesterday " Pride and prejudice...sort of" brilliant performances. Great scenery with views to the Mersey and the beach across the road. Worth a visit or many.

Parking is free but can be difficult if there is a big show on but easy in and easy out if you are savvy. The Theatre itself is well presented and bars serve quick with decent selection at prices you expect. Enjoy PS we just watched the Kenwright production of the Shawshank Redemption and it was awesome very well cast and acted

Fantastic local venue. I'm lucky to live in New Brighton, and try and support the theatre as often as possible. However, PLEASE, sort out the bar on event nights. Went tonight to a SKA tribute show , which was fantastic. Stood in bar queue for over 15 minutes to buy a pint, gave up and helped myself to the complimentary water!! 🙄 4 bar staff for the 800 seater they're is just ridiculous! Other than that, love it!
Carolyn M — Google review
Firstly, the show - The Commitments and Blues Brothers - was excellent. No complaints about the theatre itself at all. Unfortunately we booked the pre theatre dinning. It is sold as 3 courses with option to have dessert on your reserved table during the interval. We asked for this but was told it wasn't available, nor was our table reserved during the interval. But the worst by far was the quality of the food. I had the 'hand battered fish and chips" - the chips were pale frozen chips and the fish was almost inedible. Very thick, rock hard, batter with a tiny bit of fish. Obviously been under a hot lamp for ages. A real let down to the whole evening out. We will go to shows again, but will never eat there again.

The Wirral Transport Museum & Heritage Tramway in Birkenhead offers a captivating journey through the region's transportation history. Visitors can explore vintage trams, buses, cars, and motorcycles, including Europe's first street tramway. The museum showcases the evolution of transportation from George Francis Train's inaugural street tramway to the establishment of the heritage tramway in the 1990s.
We had a group visit on a week day when it's not open to the public, with a guided tour. Definitely a better way to see the museum. There is so much to see, anyone who loves trams and buses will enjoy it immensely. The little cafe is great and the tram trip, though shortened for the moment, is a real experience, trundling through the old industrial area, past the college and back. And it's all free!
Willaston M — Google review
What a hidden gem. This is an amazing place run by some very enthusiastic and skilled volunteers. The place is filled with fantastic original trams buses and historical vehicles, along with an amazing model railway. Birkenhead is the birthplace of the trams and this is a must place to visit. We brought our your 2 and 3 year old grandchildren and absolutely loved it especially the tram ride to the ferry terminal. It's easy to get to by Ferry from Liverpool or on the Liverpool underground with the station a few hundred yards away.
Peter R — Google review
We visited the museum last weekend and we were really impressed! There's a lot to look at, from old trams and buses to a miniature railway. My favourite part was definitely being able to have a tram ride on one of the old trams, this was also very cheap and was only £2 for an adult's ticket. I would highly recommend visiting this museum!
Jenna — Google review
What a hidden jem, great visit and stay were really friendly. Can spend about an hourish here especially if you try the tram, which I highly recommend. Make sure you check it out if in the area. Tip: If your hungry get the tram from the museum to Woodside Ferry Terminal and grab something to eat at the food court before jumping back on to get back to the museum. We did not realise you could do this and ended up walking down after!
Will G — Google review
This is the kind of place I love! Small, but perfectly formed. Free for some reason (should have a donations bucket at the front door). £2 return on the Tram ride. Absolutely packed with photos and paraphernalia as well as trams, buses, bikes, model trains, motorbikes. Something for everyone, kids and adults alike.
Marc M — Google review
Fabulous exhibits of buses, trams and other road vehicles on show, all well maintained in excellent condition. So much to see, a camera is a must to have with you. The volunteer staff there are very helpful and friendly. It's an amazing place to spend an hour or so and it's free.
Mal O — Google review
Superb! We caught the tram from woodside ferry to the museum tram was £6 return for family of 4 and the museum is free!. We parked at monks ferry as it was £2.50 all day and it was a short walk to the tram from there, which runs every half hour. Lots to see in the museum and they even let me look in a tram that wasn't open to the public. Nice small shop selling souvenirs and a very small cafe serving drinks and snacks
Jo — Google review
It is really good as it is run by volunteers and they run trams for the public. And they are really friendly. and the actual museum is packed full of interesting tram and bus exhibits with a full model railway inside well worth a look at and it's a fun day out for the kids. It had full access for disabled with a wheelchair ramp to upper floor access.

Visited today for the first time. Lots of parking and free entry. Animals feed available to buy for £1. Friendly staff on the front and also gave some vegetables for the animals as donation at the front. Cute way to spend a morning as a family. Very happy to leave a donation to support running of the farm

What a hidden gem! This lovely little farm is completely free to enter, with free parking right next to it—can’t beat that. 🐐🚗 There are loads of adorable animals to see (some even have their own names on signs—so cute!), and you can buy feed to give them a little snack. The staff are super friendly and clearly care about the animals. It’s such a great spot to take kids for a fun and relaxed day out. Highly recommend for families or anyone who just loves animals!

The Europa Pools Leisure Centre is an extensive leisure complex that comprises various amenities such as a 25m pool, wave machine, spa, fitness suite and steam room. In addition, it also features a cafe for the comfort of visitors. The facility provides ample space for families to enjoy swimming with no more lanes due to the relaxation of covid restrictions.
Its got a good pool and a great large open gym. The staff are all helpful and friendly and you get a free pass for the carparks. Its also only a couple of minutes walk from both Conway Park station and the main bus station. Overall, I couldn't fault it even if I wanted to.
Darren — Google review
I went here for the first time in a long time last weekend. I was going with my son for a nice Saturday morning swim but was turned away by the receptionist telling me the pool is not open for family swim Saturday morning. In fact it is only open 13:45-15:45 Saturday and completely closed for family swim on Sunday. We took our money to the Oval and went for a swim there which was great. I really shouldn't need to explain this but feel I must to help the manager understand reality. Saturday morning is THE prime time families want to go for a swim. NOT 13:45 Saturday afternoon. Also being completely closed to families on Sundays is a disgrace. As it stands if families want to go for a swim on a weekend - which FYI is the only time they're not in school, is for 2hrs Saturday afternoon. Get a grip!!!! No wonder the place is struggling
Karl R — Google review
Once an Extraordinary place for families and entertainment. I knew so many people who'd sing this places praises. Now it's just soulless husk. Another victim of commercial streamlining for lower costs. A legacy destroyed.
Liam D — Google review
Great friendly staff, good gym. Not used any of the other facilities
Chris P — Google review
Europa Pools used to be the crown jewel of family fun in Birkenhead with the slides, wave pool, jacuzzi... it had it all! Post-lockdown, they drained the life (and water) out of it and turned it into yet another gym. Because apparently what the Wirral really needed was a tenth place to lift weights. The fun pool was always packed, I remember it first opening - parents, kids, grandparents, even reluctant swimmers pretending to mind the bags just to dodge the wave machine. It brought joy, exercise, and genuine community spirit. Now? Just rows of treadmills staring blankly at what used to be the best place to make memories. Whoever made this decision: did you ever even go down the slide and feel alive? Bring back the fun. The community deserves more than just biceps and boredom.
Lee W — Google review
This pool is a disaster. It's the summer holidays and you can't come with your family on Saturdays because they don't have any family hours. During the week, there are only 3 hours a day to choose from. During those hours, either my husband or I work and we can't come together after work with the kids. I've never been here before and I already know I'll never come back because it's just one big nonsense. Shame on you.
Dagmara G — Google review
Friendly staff, decent facilities, see people having a moan about wet floors in the men's changing rooms sometimes, I mean, it is a swimming pool and steam room changing room, the floors gonna get wet.
Kieran H — Google review
The closure of the fun pool at youth's expense is a disgrace. I'm not from the Wirral, but travelled 14 miles across the Mersey to bring the kids here every week before the pandemic, and sometimes during the week for Aqua Tots if we were off work. The kids are devastated they can't go, and there's nowhere else like it. They loved the "bubbly pool" as they described it, and the wave pool, plus the fact they could walk in at their own pace to a comfortable depth. Blatant bias and ignorant decision made by the council to close it, opting for financial benefit in the short term rather than health and welfare in the long. There was no requirement for another gym on the Wirral, or even the whole North West. It's just been done for quick financial return. Any paper work issued is clear narrow-minded statements with the only intent of keeping the pool closed. It is a little run-down, but with the right management, advertising, and minor makeover the fun pool alone would've been an attraction many families will have travelled for. Nobody I speak to even knew it existed. Safe to say, there's nothing there that's worth visiting now!

Port Sunlight River Park, once a landfill, has been transformed into a picturesque parkland with walking trails, wetlands, and an abundance of wildlife. The park offers stunning views of the iconic Liverpool skyline and the Mersey River. Bird watchers can enjoy the salt marsh area to the north, which is home to large populations of water birds and is a protected site. Despite limited signage, visitors can explore the 28-hectare park with its diverse walkways and wildflower-filled wetlands.
Gorgeous views of Wirral and the Mersey. Great planting for pollinators. What a treasure. I'll be a regular now I've found it. Avoid weekdays as there is a lot of new build houses at the bottom, and the pile driving is really noisy!
Jude D — Google review
Absolute treasure of a park fabulous for a walk around at your own pace with family or alone there are some eye popping views over to Liverpool Wales and further down the Mersey towards runcorn and Helsby. There is also a variety of bird species on the mersey shore such as the Godwit curlew cormorant it also has a visitor centre with a picnic area. It is reachable by car as it's just off New Chester Road there are also buses that stop nearby such as the 41 42 48 1 1X It is also a short walk from Port Sunlight train Station
David M — Google review
The funny thing about this park is that there are no directions from the main roundabout off the bypass or from Port Sunlight. It's not advertised at all anywhere. The main entrance introduces you to a gas extraction plant that utilises methane gas from what used to be a tip. Not really a great attraction to visitors. A walk down to the front gets you away from this and brings you to the waterfront where you can watch the Mersey go by and watch ships unloading next door site. There's a cafe there that seems rather busy most times we've been past. Then you can walk along the waterfront and back out past the lakes.
Andy R — Google review
We are regulars at the Riverpark and it was the perfect place to go to with little Angus when he came to stay. Angus and Walter had a lovely walk around the coastal path and were very pleased with themselves. 🐾💙
Mr R — Google review
Really great area for walks, runs, or walking the dog. It has a perfect balance between accessible walkways and nature. Able to claim the summit to get great views from up high, but even without hiking to the top, simply walking alongside the river Mersey allows a beautiful view of the Liverpool skyline. Famous landmarks are visible such as the Cathedral and the Liver building. To the side of the park is a small beach area.
Caitlin J — Google review
A nice walk around the area with good views over the water to Liverpool. Be warned if you go on a hot, sunny day though, there's no shade on the summit, so go prepared. There is more shade however going to the lake end. There's a small car park at the bottom, but you may need to park nearby on busy days.
Bryan W — Google review
Nice green space on former landfill site. It's near some industrial sites in a small part of the park, but this doesn't take away from this haven for wildlife, the pleasant walks and the views across the Mersey to Liverpool. The lake is great for wildfowl, but you'll only get glimpses of it through the reed beds. The visitor centre was closed when I was there, but the toilets were open. There were lots of blackberries just ready for picking and great for the birds and mice too. There's a little carpark at the start of the park that would take about 8 cars.
John B — Google review
One of my favourite places to walk with or without my dogs. Sometimes busy but other times you are totally alone in a tranquil setting. View from the top is worth the walk up the 35 metre hill. Picnic tables at top for summer months but wear warm clothing on windy days or get a Mersey chill.

Lighthouses
New Brighton Lighthouse, located at the meeting point of River Mersey and Liverpool Bay on an outcrop known as Perch Rock, is a historic landmark in Wallasey. Standing 90ft tall with a solid base and iron rungs for access, it was built in 1830 and operated until 1973. The lighthouse offers stunning views and is accessible when the tide is out, making it a popular spot for visitors to explore.
We recently took the dog for a lovely sunset walk along New Brighton beach when the tide was just starting to come in and we ended walking right down to the lighthouse. This is such an amazing beach walk and is great for dogs and kids. Please check ride time and obey any signs. P.S. There are lots of dogs on and off the lead if this is something you may need to consider. We never had any trouble thankfully.

New Brighton Lighthouse is one of those hidden gems that leaves a lasting impression. Situated right by the sea at the mouth of the River Mersey, it’s not only a striking piece of maritime history but also a beautiful place to unwind and take in the scenery. Visiting around sunset is truly magical—the sky lights up in warm hues, the waves gently roll in, and the lighthouse stands tall and proud amidst it all. It’s a photographer’s dream and a perfect spot for a reflective walk or just to sit and take in the views. The surrounding area, including the nearby Fort Perch Rock and Marine Point, offers plenty to do, from grabbing a coffee to enjoying the beach or exploring local shops. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s well worth the trip. Don’t forget your camera—you’ll definitely want to capture the views! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quiet, scenic escape steeped in history.
Asim S — Google review
New Brighton Lighthouse – Where Atmosphere Meets History It’s easy to overlook the lighthouse at New Brighton. It stands there quietly, steadfast on its sea platform, while families chase dogs, cyclists roll past, and the ice cream van plays its tune. Most people walk the promenade, maybe snap a photo if the tide’s low or the clouds break nicely, and move on. We’ve been to Fort Perch Rock countless times—once even for a car show, parked up with the sea behind us—but only recently did we stop and really see the lighthouse. Once you pause, it’s magnetic. The shape, the stance, and the way it seems to float offshore when the tide’s in—it’s surreal. And if you catch it at low tide, the walk out across the sand and rocks becomes a moment in itself. It’s not just a landmark—it feels like it's watching time go by. There’s a gravity to it. Especially if the wind’s up or the light’s dramatic. We were lucky enough to be here during a night with faint aurora activity—the photos of it framed behind the lighthouse look almost unreal, but they’re completely natural. Just one of those magic nights you couldn’t plan if you tried. The structure itself is beautiful—clean white with a bold red lantern, and perfectly proportioned. Originally called Perch Rock Lighthouse, it was completed in 1830 and once used to guard the entrance to the River Mersey, flashing a warning to ships entering one of the busiest ports in the world. It’s been decommissioned since the 1970s, but it’s still active in the way that all good landmarks are—they hold presence. You can feel its age, its strength, and its service. It’s not open to the public inside, but it doesn’t need to be. The best way to experience it is from all angles: on the sand looking back, from the promenade wall with Fort Perch Rock beside it, or across the rocks at golden hour when the sun hits the glass and turns it amber. It’s in those moments that the lighthouse stops being just a photo and becomes part of the memory. One small detail we noticed—on the concrete causeway stretching out toward it, there are spots where shells and sand collect between the bricks, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch reflection shots in the puddles after high tide. A trick of the light and water that gives an entirely different dimension to your photos. It’s also one of those places that changes massively depending on the weather and tide. On a clear morning, you might get perfect symmetry with still water and glowing reflections. On a stormy evening, it becomes dramatic and wild, the waves crashing past it with fury while it stays rooted like a sentinel. It doesn’t just look like a lighthouse—it acts like one, even though it’s long since retired. Access is simple—it’s right next to the Fort and Marine Promenade, and parking is easy nearby. Even when it's busy in summer, it never feels too crowded. People stop, admire, move on. It gives you space. A rarity these days. If you're into photography, come back multiple times. Bring a long lens, wide lens, drone if you have it. Every angle rewards a bit of exploration. And for locals—it’s worth making time just to sit near it and breathe. It’s grounding. We finished the evening with chips from a local shop, sat quietly with salt in the air and the last of the light behind the lighthouse. Can’t ask for much more than that.
Phil K — Google review
New Brighton Lighthouse* is a stunning and iconic landmark that adds timeless charm to the New Brighton seafront. Standing tall at the edge of the River Mersey, it’s a perfect spot for photography, especially during sunset or high tide when the reflections are breathtaking. Though you can’t go inside, walking along the promenade to get a closer view is a peaceful experience. The lighthouse, with Fort Perch Rock nearby and the sound of waves in the background, creates a calming and scenic atmosphere. A must-see for anyone visiting New Brighton.

The indoor play area definitely needs some improvement however the kids loved it , in my opinion the handrail for the large side in the middle of the area needs to be higher, the drop over the side is extremely large and the kids are essentially unsupervised walking up the stairs, it would only take a second for a child to hang over and fall.

We had a lovely afternoon here, all the staff were lovely and friendly and helpful. There aren't many rides for smaller children, my granddaughter is 2 and could only go on a few. My Son is 5 and could go on most of them but had to have an adult on some as he was too small as required. Most rides are 2 or 3 tokens per person. We bought 20 and were kindly given 10 by a family who no longer needed theirs.

This place is fantastic for kids up to 12 years. We took 7 kids here and they all loved it and had so much fun. The slides are great, the only issue being the mats get taken up the stairs by the staff abit slow so the slide is constantly being closed after around 10 children have used it. So taking 7 they had to keep waiting. Also we arrived 20 mins into a session and didn't want to wait 40 mins for the next one with 7 kids waiting so we had to lose 20 mins off our hour, it would make sense to just let us have the extra 20 mins at the end of the session as it wasn't busy at all. The kids liked it.

A place I can sit and enjoy a hot drink while both my children have fun and I can see them at all times. Staff are brilliant go above and beyond. Always offering an helping hand if needed. It’s a place a feel relaxed for a change and don’t feel judged. We visit regular and both my children have had amazing birthday party’s there, again nothing was too much for the staff.
Nicola Q — Google review
Great place. Smaller than your average soft play - the play area is about 20ft x 20ft - but that works out well. You can always see your kids, and they can see you. This really helps to build your kid's confidence and reduces the amount of time you spend contorting yourself round the climbing frame to "rescue" a child that's gotten themselves stuck and can sit with a decent coffee instead. The reduced age range (0-8) means it's safer for the smaller children as there's no larger kids charging about, and the place is big enough that everyone gets a turn on whatever play thing takes their fancy. It's clean and as tidy as a kids play centre can be. The staff were actively hoovering up the various crisps and crushed biscuits almost as soon as they happened. Decently priced too, with a play and a meal deal that doesn't break the bank. We travelled here on the train, as it's only just over the road from the station, which just added to the fun day out. Highly recommended.

Staff are lovely and will accommodate all your needs if they can. I’ve been going with my grandchildren for years my youngest granddaughter is allergic to many things and they even buy the food in so that she can eat there. They will go out of their way to help anybody. Jess and Terri Ann are amazing As are all the staff. It’s a lovely little place my granddaughter is five now and we still go twice a week if we can after school.

Absolutely love this place. My little one can spend hours a day here and not get bored. The food is lovely and the staff are absolutely wonderful and accommodate all different types of children and all different food allergies. Ive never had a bad experience in the 4 years I have been attending this play centre.

We visited the mad house for a birthday party and was greeted with a warm welcome . My eldest daughter has additional needs, and busy loud soft plays can cause meltdowns and make her feel anxious. But all the staff were great and helped my daughter feel at ease and she really enjoyed herself . Would highly recommend visiting the mad house.

The New Ferry Butterfly Park in Wirral is a serene and verdant oasis that was once an industrial site but has been transformed into a purpose-built urban nature reserve. This sprawling park offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, inviting visitors to explore its grassy trails and discover various species of butterflies, bees, flowers, and berries. Open only on Sundays, this wild and natural sanctuary showcases interesting signage that provides information about the park itself as well as different attractions within it.
Incredible local education resource and a lovely day out on a sunny day in particular! Open every Sunday from May to September

Went and visited the butterfly park. It was OK. I got to see some moths & butterflies, ladybirds, and dragon flies. It's a good place for nature lovers and children to visit locally. The volunteers were friendly and made me feel welcomed. It's free to enter. However, donations are hugely appreciated by the volunteers. It's only OPEN on SUNDAYS 12 noon to 4pm.

Nice place for a walk to look for butterflies, bees, flowers and berries. It's only open Sundays. Wild and natural, except for the grassy trails. Not a huge park, but pretty, with some interesting signage about the different things to look for, and a bit about the park itself.

This is a great place, Right on the corner and embankment or promenade of "New Brighton"!! At the entrance to the "Mersey" river, wonderfull views of Liverpool!! Easy "FREE" parking, easy access to all amenities, (especially for families, prams, wheelchairs, the disabled and elderly)!! Lots of restaurants, "Burger King, Prezzo, etc," also a big "Morrisons" supermarket store and a "Travelodge" hotel!! Great promenade walk and for cycling from Seacombe Ferry to West Kirby"!! Easy access to a great beach!! Easy access to public transport, buses, taxi's etc, (and "New Brighton" train station is approximately 200 metres away)!!! Highly Recommended!!

For £3. as a set meal deal, Morrison offers a really good choice of sandwiches, drinks and snacks. There is a Travel Lodge that faces the sea front and one of this days may try out. The place is literally a great hub with franchise eateries to try out. It has a club nearby, a movie house so entertainment and amusement centers are available for the lively spirited crowd. Me, my choice is to walk endlessly on the beach and coast.

Embark on a captivating journey through Liverpool's iconic Royal Liver Building with the Royal Liver Building 360 Tour. Ascend to the 10th and 15th floors for breathtaking panoramic views of the city and Wirral, capturing stunning photo opportunities. Delve into an immersive audio-visual experience inside the clocktower and marvel at one of its famous clock faces up close. This family-friendly tour offers a unique perspective on this historic landmark, making it a must-see attraction in Liverpool.
Just had a fabulous 360 tour of the Liver Building with our tour guide Kaya today. We we're on the last tour of the day (4.30pm) and were fortunate enough to be the only two on it. Kaya was so friendly and informative and added plenty of little nuggets that we hadn't heard about before. The view from the first viewing platform (underneath the clock face) was superb. There were signs up to show you what landmarks to look for and Kaya gave some interesting facts regarding the size of the clock and its hands. I don't know how she remembers all the facts but she made the tour thoroughly entertaining. The next level takes you to the workings of the clock and a spectacular immersive film on the history of Liverpool. Honestly this was like being in a Disney show, very imaginative. If you don't like loud noises then you can borrow ear defenders. The final level was up to the bell. From here you could see the iconic liver birds. I won't say their names, ask your tour guide what they are as it has a funny story. So to round up the tour, we can honestly say it was fabulous, made even better by such a knowledgeable tour guide. Would definitely recommend paying a visit and well done to Kaya in particular!
Lucy B — Google review
Our arranged walking tour of Liverpool, starting at the Liver building, was cancelled last minute...but there we were at the building expecting some Liverpool history. And so we discovered the Liver 360 tour. There was no waiting on this weekday so we joined the 45 minute tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and fun in her patter. The fact that it was raining by the time we reached the outside clock level did not dampen anything. Highly recommended.
Ian F — Google review
Amazing tour and friendly staff......the views a breathtaking and its such a beautiful building. We were told that someone that used to live in a property inside the liver building went back and told the tour guides that as a young lad he used to get inside the liver bird itself as they are so big and have a door on the back. This was before the put a metal frame inside to support the bird. How'd have thought 😳 ha ha 😂
Martin H — Google review
I first went up this decades ago, back in the days when you just had to ring and book to go on what was then a free tour to the top. I hadn't booked this time, but I was still able to be accommodated on the next trip with a wait of 50 minutes. Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient team of staff. The steps aren't steep and there are several stopping points on the way up to the Liver Birds themselves. You stop below the clock faces and there is also a short, projected light show inside which is really worth seeing. Very well run and definitely worth doing. Grand vistas across the Mersey and beyond and all of lovely Liverpool spread out before you. Loads of interesting facts and stories and worth the money. I really enjoyed this trip and highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Absolutely fantastic experience for anybody,a very well organised and professional event from start to finish.A lovely reception area toilets etc.. The walk up a number of steps we found easy enough.Highlights were the beautiful panoramic views, the area where the clockwork was. the moving video we sat through which took us from design of the building onwards, through the decades really, through war time Liverpool.Through the music scene, football etc, really all what makes Liverpool what it has evolved into. The staff were super friendly, fun and relaxing. They were really well versed in their knowledge and presentation...Will definitely be going again...Thank you.

Historical place
Nestled within the enchanting woodlands of Thurstaston Common lies the captivating Thor's Stone, a striking red sandstone formation that has intrigued visitors for generations. Standing at approximately 30 feet tall, this natural wonder can be reached by meandering along picturesque footpaths that weave through gorse and birch trees. While some once believed it to be man-made, geologists now attribute its unique shape to years of natural weathering.
I've been wanting to go for a while. So I got the chance to go for a quick visit. Thors sandstone rock is truly stunning to see. You can climb to the top and sit off and eat a picnic if you want to. Lots of visitors have engraved their name into the stone. I will definitely be going back to explore more of the area. Thurstaston common takes you to other places like Royden Park, Thurstaston Hill, The Dungeon Wood, and Thurstaston Church. Would 100% recommend you take a visit.

Amazing location. If you park at Thurstaston common car park it is a short walk to the stone. The terrain is rocky and sometimes skippy from the sand so appropriate footwear is a must. If you venture a little further from Thor’s stone you get a magnificent view of Wales. Definitely worth a visit

The Soccer Dome sports complex is highly regarded with exceptional coaches who all deserve top ratings. The one-on-one sessions are enjoyable, thanks to the patient and kind instructors. However, there is a need for some updates in the facility, such as a fresh coat of paint and improved lighting. It would also be beneficial to have benches for spectators instead of adults sitting on the pitch, which poses risks to children tripping over them.
Just came back from my sons birthday and they couldn't have catered for his party enough. They were always checking in on us to check everything was OK and always making sure the kids were happy. This is my sons second party here and it is down the service here . Thank you Soccerdome

"The Quarry" is a community-focused venue in Liverpool that hosts events supporting good causes and showcasing local talent. It provides a safe space for enjoying new music and engaging with the creative community. Situated in New Brighton, this former quarry has been transformed into a small park, complete with dog-friendly areas, a purpose-built skatepark, and a playground. It's an ideal spot for families to teach their toddlers how to ride bikes while also being conveniently located near pubs for adults to enjoy.
As with nearly every village or town on the Wirral Peninsula at one time in the past there was a working quarry 🪨 🏗️ providing sandstone to build the house's & walls of the surrounding settlement 🏘️. New Brighton is no different & here the old Quarry has been turned into a small park 🏞️ situated between The Telegraph & The Sandon pubs. It's only a small 🏞️ but dog friendly🐕‍🦺 🚶🏼& it also has a purpose built ⚽ & 🏀 court. Plus at the Telegraph pub end there's an enclosed 🧑‍🤝‍🧑's play ground. Lastly there's a clock tower entrance(commemorative of the local figure 👨‍💼 who originally gifted the Quarry to the community & who created the 🏞️) located at the top of Magazine lane.

The Quarry Recreation Ground in Wallasey stands as a community oasis. Located on Mount Pleasant Road near the coastline, this historic green space emerged from a disused limestone quarry in 1912. Donated by philanthropist James Smith, the park features sloping lawns, winding footpaths, and oak trees providing shade and tranquility. Visitors can enjoy a children’s playground, flowerbeds, and a stone memorial dedicated to the site’s industrial past. Birdsong echoes across open meadows where local families picnic and joggers traverse lanes. With panoramic views of the River Mersey and Wirral Peninsula, The Quarry remains a cherished refuge celebrating its natural beauty.
