The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, located in a historic building, is a top attraction in the area. It offers an extensive collection of artifacts and interactive displays that explore the town's maritime history, shipbuilding heritage, Acadian and Mikmaq culture, and overall regional heritage. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of Yarmouth through diverse exhibits and gain a deeper understanding of its cultural tapestry.
A surprisingly understated museum with many beautiful and interesting artifacts. It leaves you with a sense of Yarmouth’s faded but illustrious past. A wonderful place to spend a few hours.

We were visiting Yarmouth and took an afternoon to see the Mastodon. But wow -- so many other cool things to see! Kids twelve and under are free; adults are $12. It was definitely worth the visit.
Sarah R — Google review
I've been to this museum a few times, and there was always a friendly volunteer to greet you when you go in, however this time(July 14th) a young lady with dyed green colour in her hair was at the front area. She didn't look up didn't acknowledge us in any way(2 teenage guys were also there volunteering and didn't acknowledge us either). I've worked in museums before and your always supposed to smile, welcome the tourists to the museum talk a tiny bit about the building tell them if they have any questions to let you know and ask them to sign the guest book. The director of the museum needs to have a talk with the young volunteers and inform them how to properly interact with people, no excuse to be rude, people who work in a museum should have a passion for history not look like they could care less, McDonald's and Tim Hortons is always hiring if you need something to do!

Rev.Jomon Vincent here from India, Its really an awesome Place. I had an opportunity to do a Presentation about "Incredible India" Powered by Y-Reach Yarmouth. Great appreciation to Nadine Gates(Museum Director) Lisette Gaudet(Archivist) Elizabeth Zavala Y-reach Settlement Navigator and East Link Community TV for your warm welcome and hospitality towards newcomers in Yarmouth. It was really amazing. God bless you.

The Yarmouth Museum is an absolute treasure that deserves a five-star rating! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a wealth of history and engaging exhibits that truly bring the region's past to life. The museum is well-organized, making it easy to navigate through the various displays, which cover everything from local maritime history to cultural artifacts. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the museum’s offerings, always ready to share fascinating stories and insights. I especially enjoyed the interactive elements, which make learning fun for visitors of all ages. The museum's location is also lovely, providing a pleasant atmosphere for a leisurely visit. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a unique experience in Yarmouth, this museum is a must-visit. I left feeling enriched and eager to return! Highly recommend it!

The Firefighters’ Museum of Nova Scotia, situated in a historic fire station, is an essential stop for those exploring Yarmouth. It provides a fascinating insight into the area's firefighting history through its extensive array of firefighting gear, vintage fire trucks, and memorabilia. The museum showcases the progression of firefighting methods and equipment over time and offers interactive displays that honor the courage of local firefighters.
I hadn't been here since a class trip over 25 years ago. I watched a you tube video about the circus ship that caught on fire at the Yarmouth wharf and it refueled my desire to go. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and the trucks were just mind blowing.
Matthieu B — Google review
If you have anything to do with the fire service this is the place to go to learn the history and heritage of it. See the displays. Multiple trucks and helmets. Collection of patches from visitors. Displays of the equipment from the past right up to the current. Make sure you take lots of time to see everything properly.
Ryland M — Google review
What a lovely museum dedicated to firefighting in NS. It's a self-guided tour but the staff were super friendly and told us to ask if we had any questions. Some very interesting olf fire engines and equipment on display, and some fascinating archives of previous local major events the fire service attended.
Jon S — Google review
We were here first thing in the morning and so got a lot of personal attention from Gary. His history and knowledge of the museum is awesome. He made our visit a real learning experience. The exhibit is outstanding, and the museum houses a nice selection of pumps, fire engines and memorabilia. There is a very interesting room toward the back left on the first floor that speaks to the fire alarm warning boxes seen throughout a town/city. We paid $5 per person entrance fee, reduced for 65 and older, as well as kids. It was money well spent to see this wonderful museum. Kids are allowed to sit on one of the trucks to explore and pose for pictures, so this is an excellent place for kids. I highly recommend with the caveat that Gary will make your visit much more interesting than a run through the museum without him.
P W — Google review
The museum offers a large, rare collection of firefighting memorabilia. You can see nearly every type of fire engine ever used in Nova Scotia, as well as patches and badges from fire services from around the world.
Dan T — Google review
Wow what can I say about this large museum, but fantastic. They have so many artifacts that are well persevered and kept to their natural state as if they were brand new. Small fee (Five Canadian) with what they have should be chartered more (shhhhhh). Staff are super friendly and courteous and helpful.
RUSSELL S — Google review
A wonderful trip back in time. We have all seen these in the old movies, now here is a chance to see them in person and 'imagine'. Yes, imagine how they ever put out any large fires with these tiny pieces of apparatus. Thanks to the ingenuity of men and women over the years, things have evolved. Thanks to those who have preserved this piece of history for us.
Jack — Google review
If I could have caught my sons reaction when we walked in, the moment he went "Fire" it would have been but a glimpse of the excitement he felt crossing the threshold. Filed to the brim with old, restored fire engines, equipment, brotherhood. It gives a glimpse into the history of Yarmouth itself through its turmoil, and loss. It's truely a think of beauty to behold

Sweeney Museum is a small but charming maritime museum packed with old shipping and fishing memorabilia. The authentic exhibits offer a glimpse into the area's rich history, making it a fascinating place to spend an hour browsing through the collection. Visitors can enjoy the original wooden floors and old books, immersing themselves in the ambiance of the past. The museum offers a unique experience as it lacks computer displays or interactive features, allowing guests to truly connect with the artifacts.
Amazing collection of working fishing dock buildings of a major fish wholesale distributor in Yarmouth NS. Also a 1/3 scale wood boat with fittings all collected from original fleet.
Eric T — Google review
Absolutely worth visiting if you are in Yarmouth. The information and exhibits allowed us to understand Yarmouth and the shipping and fishing industry in this area much better. The design of the museum is very intelligent as they fit whole buidlings, offices and a boat into the museum space by deconstructing the originals and rebuilding them at a smaller scale. Still the purpose of the rooms and the ship are intact which makes the exhibition much more real and vivid. Brilliant idea, congratulations. We enjoyed our visit and our little chat with the super friendly lady in the museum. Rudder' s Seafood Restaurant is only steps away and an excellent choice after the visit for lunch or dinner.
A H — Google review
We hadn’t intended on visiting this museum, but when the Yarmouth County Museum was closed for a window replacement we decided to check it out. The admission for the two of us was less than 10 dollars and Julie greeted us warmly and was very knowledgeable! She gave my son (7 years old) a scavenger hunt and he happily explored the museum and exhibits, working away at it for over an hour! When we needed some help, Julie gave us some hints and also offered wonderful context and information about everything on display. We got to climb up and explore a boat and get some fun pictures at the wheel as well. When we left we were both so pleased with the visit and fun time! Definitely worth a visit! Thanks so much for the lovely time!
Ashley-Rose — Google review
Such an amazing place to visit. You can learn so much about the fishing industry.

This was a delight of a museum! Historic buildings reassembled indoors to recreate a wharf with all the equipment. Lots of photos, books and archive materials too!

A real museum. No computer displays or interactive stuff just packed full of old shipping/fishing memorabilia. Fascinating place to spend an hour browsing our maritime history. It even smells old from the original wooden floors and old books. Just marvelous And the staff are knowledgeable about the collection and local history. Sorry to “gush” over it but I really enjoyed my visit today and I hope you do too

Brewery
Food & Drink
Heritage Brewing Co. in Yarmouth is a delightful gem for anyone who appreciates craft beer and local flavors. Nestled on Main Street, this brewery beautifully marries tradition with modern brewing techniques, offering an impressive selection of handcrafted beers that pay homage to the region's heritage. Guests can indulge in tastings or take part in engaging brewery tours while enjoying the inviting atmosphere of the cozy taproom or outdoor patio.
My wife and I had a Friday off work and been wanting to try this place. Wasn't disappointed at all. Friendly staff and delicious brew 🍻. Check their website or socials for events too like karaoke 🎤 etc. Will be back soon to try their chips and dips too!
TS F — Google review
Great spot. Exactly what we were looking for. A nice brewery to relax in after a walk around the town taking in all that Yarmouth has to offer on nice sunny day!
Bill M — Google review
Always make a stop here on my annual Yarmouth visit! Incredibly fair prices and amazing beer! Got the chips and dip this time, it was so good & amazing portion for the price. Highly recommend!!
Maura M — Google review
We visited Heritage Brewing Co. on a rainy Saturday in November after seeing all the great Google reviews, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The taproom was very quiet when we arrived — just two other guests sitting at the bar — but the cold, wet weather likely kept people away. Even so, the atmosphere was warm, cozy, and inviting. I can easily imagine this place being packed and full of energy on a nice day. I ordered a flight of four beers and chose an ale, lager, stout, and red ale. Every single one was delicious. Each style was well-crafted, balanced, and full of flavour. I could have stayed much longer just sipping and relaxing. We’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re in Yarmouth!
Celine L — Google review
Friendly and welcoming staff, good selection of beers that would fit most tastes. We did a couple tastings and while the beer doesn’t necessarily fit the traditional labels, they are very good and offer a complexity not found with most breweries. Live music was a fun plus and my husband and I felt completely at ease and comfortable.
Keith C — Google review
Tucked away on a side street when we visited, but understand that the brewery was moving to a larger space on Main Street. Enjoyed the beer as all the taps served a solid quality brew.
Jim W — Google review
Nice spot. Staff seem to be friendly. Had a flight. First time I’ve experienced this but nearly all the beers tasted like they had smoked malt. I suspect there is a water quality issue? I’m certified BJCP and this was very uncharacteristic. Even the cream ale was undrinkable. Will return to give it another try. Music was great!
Jamie A — Google review
Stopped by expecting a great choice of locally crafted beers, instead out of 15 beverages listed 5 were not available. No lagers available. Either they had a great run on lagers or poor reaction time to brew more. Disappointed! But the staff were friendly.

Cafe
Coffee shop
Sip Cafe Yarmouth is a local gem that started as a small kiosk in the area and quickly gained popularity for its wide selection of loose leaf teas. The cafe offers over 100 varieties of tea, making it a go-to spot for tea enthusiasts in Acadian Shores. Visitors praise the friendly and efficient staff, as well as the reasonably priced menu items. Additionally, patrons rave about the delicious flavor shots available at the cafe.
This is a great place if youre looking for a peaceful afternoon watching it go by with coffee. Great staff, aesthetically pleasing, great coffee. Food is great, selection of sandwiches, wraps, to-go snack cups. Their cookie and muffin selection is vast. For sure come grab a cup.
Ryan M — Google review
The coffee is ok, but there is much better coffee in Yarmouth in the immediate vicinity. The snacks here are recommended. The store is nicely decorated.
Marei B — Google review
Coffee is fine but their wraps have really not held up to the task. The chicken curry wrap was plain rice not even spiced with a few bits of chicken. The roasted pepper hummus had NO pepper but only large chunks of red onion not even diced. Hummus was only on one small part of the wrap. This is not the quality we are used to; we were told the chef is new. But training is a must as the food is a bust.
Leontine A — Google review
On our visit to Yarmouth, we stayed at the downtown area and Sip was at a walking so we tried their Hazelnut Latte and Caramel Macchiato, both were amazing. The next day we wanted tea and to our surprise they had a huge collection of loose tea. We tried their earl grey and Blueberry tea bothwere great. Highly recommend Sip Cafe.
Rinku G — Google review
Love love love this place. Been here for the past 5 days straight and can’t wait to come again. 🤩 They have a great selection of flavour shots (my fav is salted caramel & cookie dough). 🍮🍪 The staff are super friendly and fast! I’m from Vancouver & was surprised when they remembered my order on the second day. 🥰 Everything is also reasonably priced :) Needless to say, I’m kind of obsessed and love this place!
Andrea C — Google review
Coffee is good as are some of their snacks and desserts. I also had a smoked salmon breakfast wrap which was absolutely terrible. The service isn't the best, always feel that I am burdening staff with my order, could just be a hipster barista thing.
Ahmad — Google review
Didn't enjoy the hotel coffee, so I walked a short distance and got myself Sip's americano. Delicious! Also try the apple pie. It's not often that I ask for a breakfast sausage panini and a slice of pie. No regrets. It's a pretty chill atmosphere with lots of seating. Interior is basically wood. Like having a Vancouver cafe in Yarmouth.
Johnny D — Google review
The selection of teas available at Sip Cafe is incredible. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. There was a nice ambiance to the place where patrons can hang out, grab a bite to eat, or work on their laptops.

It felt like I was coming home. The proprietor Vera, was the most professional, accommodating, and thoughtful person I have ever met. We had breakfast, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend their Ice Cream and Crepes. You will not regret it
Art B — Google review
One of my new favorite places to have a nice fancy type lunch-in experience with a little European café flare. The owner was very passionate about her food service and therefore made the experience all the more enjoyable. Great coffees, nibbler platters and sweet or savoury crêpes to be had. I was even suggested the wines which was a new menu addition this year. Loved that there’s a take out window option for those in a hustle. The prices may be a bit on the high side but definitely worth it for the experience as I am a dining experience kinda gal.

What a lovely place! Wonderful hospitality, beautiful decor! We felt right at home! My husband and I stopped here on our way from NY to Halifax with my teenage daughter and her friend. Thank you for a terrific stay--we highly recommend this B&B!
Janeen V — Google review
My experience here was awhile ago now... I keep trying to go again, and missing their open hours. We toured the beautiful gallery, and spoke to the really welcoming and interesting proprietor. My mother, who studied architecture, had to be dragged away from the house. We ordered a chocolate, a ginger and a strawberry ice cream. Hands down, the best ice cream I've had in the province. (And I've tried a lot of ice cream here). My chocolate was rich and creamy, the strawberry was a strawberry base with pieces of strawberry, and the ginger was the same. Ginger is really hard to find, so I hope they still carry it. Well worth a stop.

Had a crepe from the creperie window and it was great! Nice location to sit out in the yard and have a delicious crepe and sip on a coffee. I had the maple crepe and my sister had the specialty crepe. Both were delicious.

I’m about to be a regular customer here!! The sushi is amazing and priced even better! I have a lot of mild allergies and she is always willing to make me a custom roll or two! I very much can’t wait to drink my way through the bubble tea menus! This place is one of my favourites in Yarmouth! They are always so friendly and kind! This place is definitely worth a stop

Nice little restaurant in Yarmouth. The ramen was a bit different from what I’ve had in the past, but it was tasty. Owners are friendly. Just a warning though. They have some random books that you can read (some on history) and one of them was definitely inappropriate for children. (There were historical images of extremely violent acts). Not sure if the owner removed that book or not after being brought to their attention.
Kyle W — Google review
Amazing place, the service is amazing, I love the Ramen they make. There is also their Boba tea which is on point. And the atmosphere is great. Couches are roughed up leather but they are the comfiest I've ever sat on.

Love our local talent! Girl's Weekend 2 was better than a lot of comedies I've seen on TV. Haven't laughed that much or that hard in a long time. Broadway Night showed us again the great talent of singers and dancers that live in our tiny area. This crew could compete on Canadian Idol and win, imo. ❣️❤️❣️❤️

Lighthouses
Cape Forchu Lighthouse, situated near Yarmouth along Nova Scotia's southern shore, is a distinctive red-and-white beacon perched on a rocky headland. The lighthouse offers stunning sunset views and is surrounded by 19 acres of parkland, making it an ideal spot for photography. Visitors can explore the Leif Erikson Trail and enjoy well-maintained trails with beautiful coastal vistas.
So beautiful in here and the smell of the sea roses omg smells so calming in there. It was really foggy when we went, I bet it will be more beautiful without the fog. They have a coffee shop in there too! Not a fan of their coffee though, it’s very light tasting. We did not buy tickets, it’s free to go in.
April R — Google review
What a beautiful area. Enjoyed our time here at the lighthouse and the surrounding area. Lots of park benches, picnic tables and places to admire the area. We didn’t go up the stairs as we arrived after hours.
Helen G — Google review
A unique lighthouse with a short walking trail nearby. Great views and definitely worth a stop. It was fairly busy in mid-October, and the lighthouse museum was closed.
Illia — Google review
Cape Forchu Lighthouse A hidden gem in Yarmouth! The area is well-maintained, with great signage and fascinating historical information. It’s perfect for a short scenic walk and photography. Don’t miss the whale exhibit—“Meet Foggy the Fin Whale”—a unique and educational touch! After Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, this is my second favorite. One of the top attractions in Yarmouth—highly recommended!
Sandeep R — Google review
What an amazing experience. The Yarmouth coast line is just beautiful. The staff at the Lighthouse was just as Amazing. I recommend anyone who decides to stop in, take the climb to the top. There is also a museum and little snack area, as well as a gift shop, all right there at the Lighthouse. On a good day, get out and walk the shore. They have the skeleton of a 🐋, and if you remember, make yourself a wooden sign with where you are from, with distance. Add it to the sign post along the shoreline. Was raining today, so didn't get to do all of it, plus short on time. Next time, will make sure to experience all that it has to offer. Thank you to the staff.......
Mark T — Google review
Beautiful spot that rivals Peggy's Cove, especially during a beautiful clear sunset. Great parking, wonderful views, and in the summertime, they have accessible valets to take to the end of the trail.
Danny M — Google review
Beautiful area with a unique apple shaped light house. It's up a little hill, but they have a shuttle that can take you up if you're need it. It's extra to go up in the light house.
