Hot Springs & Geysers
Kuirau Park, situated just a short distance from the city center, offers a natural escape with its geothermal foot baths, hot springs, and a picturesque lake. The park features landscaped gardens, playgrounds, and playing fields alongside bubbling hot springs and mud pools. Visitors can stroll along wooden walkways amidst steamy geothermal activity for unique photo opportunities. Recently relocated free foot baths are now conveniently located near the playground.
This is definitely one of the best thermal parks that I've visited in New Zealand. Whilst it doesn't have the colours of Waiotapu or the unique guided experience provided at Te Puia, it makes it up in its own unique way. It's a fantastic public park with expansive lawns, foot baths and marvellous thermal pools with each turn providing new visuals that adds up to a very relaxing experience; perhaps perfect for a relaxing afternoon retreat when the weather's right. You'll easily spend hours here relaxing and admiring the stunning scenery. What's more? All this is available for free!
Ziyuan W — Google review
It was nice to be able to have a walk around a geothermal park that is free to view. Would be nice if there was some better drainage, so there weren't puddles inbthe grass walkways to have to walk through, but as mentioned, it was free!
Brendon M — Google review
A wonderful geothermal park with so many thermal springs lying around. We were even able to soak our feet in one of those hot springs with its healing minerals for our feet . Again another must visit sight and incredibly Free . I highly recommend it 👌
Edward R — Google review
Kuirau Park is a clean and relaxing place right in the heart of the city. It’s well maintained, with tidy walkways, green lawns, and a few natural geothermal features that make it unique. There’s also a convenient public toilet nearby, which is very helpful for visitors. It’s a lovely spot to sit down, enjoy lunch, and simply watch the surroundings. The atmosphere feels peaceful, and the park offers plenty of space to rest or take a short walk. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, Kuirau Park is a pleasant place to unwind and enjoy some quiet time in the city.

A fantastic and free way to witness geothermal wonders up close. Don't miss the unique and relaxing free thermal foot baths. Well-maintained paths past bubbling mud pools, steaming vents, and a captivating crater lake – perfect for photos! On Saturday mornings, the vibrant Rotary Market adds local flavour. The sulphur smell is present (eeek), but welcome to Rotorua! It’s a must-see, offering a real taste of the area's natural environment without costing a cent.
Binky T — Google review
This place is awesome for being a free park for anyone to wander around. Compared to Waiotapu, it is not be as vibrant and probably in need of some maintenance. Definitely worth a quick visit looking at all the pools or dipping your feet in the foot baths (super busy though)
Kiel J — Google review
If you’re looking for a place to see geothermal pools and explore with your family/friends Kuirau Park is the perfect place for you. You can see a vast amount of pools and as you walk through the trails you can unravel the amazing wonders of this park at a cost of $0.
Ajeesh N — Google review
Great place to soak your feet, and the playground is good if you stay around that part. However, there are some parts that aren't safe, and need to be fenced off so people don't fall into hot pools.

Government Gardens is a picturesque waterfront park in Rotorua, featuring a geothermal bathhouse and museum with stunning Tudor-style architecture. Visitors can explore the 50-acre parkland, which includes historic buildings, geothermal features, fountains, and rose gardens. The area in front of the Rotorua Museum offers activities like bowls, petanque, and croquet.
Wow, this garden is absolutely stunning! The colors are just incredible, and it looks so peaceful and relaxing. I could totally spend hours wandering around and taking it all in. That garden is truly a sight to behold, I'm so impressed! The vibrant colors and meticulous arrangement of the plants create such a calming atmosphere. It's clear a lot of love and care has gone into cultivating this space. I especially admire the way the different textures and heights are used to enhance the overall design.

Great spot. Lots of renovations going on when I visited. Also the finish line for the annual Run the Forest event.
M S — Google review
sadly the huge museum building was closed off due to renovations but the place is really pretty, huge dpaces of empty space just grass tho, buy still relaxing and worth the visit
Prasasya N — Google review
Nice, the bath pool building and behind it seems under heavy construction of a new museum. But the monument round about is elegante and the rose garden tempting.
Ekinista T — Google review
We came at the onset of spring and the flowers have not exactly bloom or if would have been better eg the rose garden were just seedlings when we came. However, some interesting places like the hot springs and statues of old war heros. Recommended especially to those who like walking, calming places and history buffs.

Beautiful spot to visit. The garden & grounds are immaculate. My child loved exploring around the area.

Nice green space with various pieces of art and Māori sculptures. Really enjoyed walking around and visiting the thermal spring area too.

Sulphur Point, located on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua, offers a unique and surreal experience with its geothermal activity. The area features steaming vents, boiling mud pools, and the distinct smell of sulfur. Visitors can explore the moonscape-like terrain while learning about the geological formations through interpretation panels along the trail. The murky waters of Sulphur Bay are not suitable for swimming due to sulfur suspension and a pH level of 3.5.
Good views, sulphur smell in the air. The lake looks like a sea. The lake was very rough and windy during the visit with drizzles. Well maintained walkways for viewing. Ample parking space as well on the opposite side of the road.
Sajeev T — Google review
Fine as a free attraction. Yes it smells but thats to be expected. Shame about the litter. Woeth a quick look
P D — Google review
That is the smell of Rotorua. Unfortunately, we saw it in the rain however that does mean we got to really enjoy the heat. The concept of pockets of magma heated water creating geothermal energy is cool. Parking here is limited but it is a nice free site to visit. The views of Rotorua Lake Caldera is also very nice from here.
Aryan P — Google review
Nice walkpath along the bay. You see a lot of activity and sulphur ponds. Stay on path and prepare to walk quite a bit as it is return trip from center down to the bay and back. With some investment this would be very magnificent park and path. The road next to the path is noisy ofcourse.
Hanna C — Google review
When we first arrived at Rotorua, we went for a walk around the lake in the late afternoon to breathe in that sulphuric air. We were all very excited to see fences, hoping to catch some volcanic action, but just to be disappointed by the relative inactivity. No disrespect to nature, but there is really not much happening here other than a few birds standing on the island in the distance.
Brian L — Google review
Out of this world scenery with thermal activity everywhere. Perfectly set up for a leisurely walk or a run amongst the many Manuka lined pathways.

Free and great to see if you don’t have time or the funds to go to Te Puia which is a must!

Nestled on the serene shores of Lake Rotorua, Polynesian Spa is a renowned natural mineral bathing and luxury spa retreat. With 28 mineral pools fed by two natural springs, it offers a rejuvenating experience that nourishes the skin and soothes tired muscles. The spa specializes in health and wellness treatments, catering to both relaxation seekers and athletes with hydrotherapy and reflexology walk options.
I recently visited Polynesian Spa Rotorua with my family, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! ✨ The lakefront hot pools are so relaxing, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the views of Lake Rotorua make it feel truly special. 🌊🌿 The staff were welcoming and friendly, and everything was well maintained and super clean. After a few days of travelling, soaking in the natural mineral waters was exactly what we needed to refresh and recharge. 💆‍♂️💆‍♀️ It was especially heartwarming to bring my parents here — they loved every moment, and it became one of the highlights of our Rotorua trip. 💖 Highly recommend Polynesian Spa to anyone visiting Rotorua — whether you’re a local or a tourist, this place is pure bliss! 🙌
Somendra S — Google review
Our half day at the Polynesian Spa was just perfect! We were welcomed warmly and given a great introduction to all the amenities. Our package included the deluxe pool area and a treatment. The view over the lake from the pools is stunning. Pools with various temperatures were relaxing and offered good sitting areas. So relaxing and not at all too busy. The massage treatment was excellent. One of my best! Highly recommend a visit here!
Debbie H — Google review
My family of three had a wonderful time at the spa. We were warmly welcomed and shown around. The setting is fabulous - right on Lake Rotorua and totally private. There are five pools of varying temperatures plus a freezing cold plunge pool. We tried everything! It was so relaxing and invigorating. The hour long Swedish massages were also terrific. Very friendly staff. Lovely to sit in a super comfy chair after the massage and take in the view sipping herbal teas.
Geoff K — Google review
Absolutely loved our experience at Polynesian Spa, Rotorua! We booked a spa and massage package, and it was amazing. The lake pools were beautiful — four alkaline pools (great for the skin) and one acid pool perfect for sore muscles, all with stunning views over Lake Rotorua. Our couples massage was incredible — huge thanks to Cheeney, a fantastic masseur who made the whole experience deeply relaxing. The package also included a tasty lunch, fresh juice, and later smoothies in a private lakeside room. We enjoyed it so much we stayed until evening, soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend Polynesian Spa to anyone visiting Rotorua — the perfect mix of relaxation, nature, and pampering. Can’t wait to come back!
Angela A — Google review
We came at 11am because we wanted to relax ourselves in a spa environment and it was really pleasant to be there. We paid 100$ for two people with unlimited access to 8 hot pools : 3 alkaline and 5 acidic. We loved being there and highly recommend this place for anyone looking to spend a day at great cost !
Ryan — Google review
Booked a massage and included was soaking in the lake pools which are alkaline and one acid pool (sore muscles). You can’t beat the location of this Spa. It is literally on the lake. The pools are right next to a small garden and the lake is right there. The seagulls are on the garden area. That’s how close you are to the water. They have this location because they have been there since the late 1800s. The pools are surrounded by rocks and feel very natural. The water is varying temperatures. Very, very relaxing. They also have some outside chaises that are heated. I booked a massage with Ni Luh who was fantastic. I told her about my sore spots and she paid attention to them. She is very sweet and very accommodating. At the end of the massage she gave me a coupon for a complementary juice or smoothie and I was taken to a relaxation area where she gave me some tea. Everything is pristine clean. The locker rooms are large and there are blow dryers, and plenty of towels. The only comment I have is that they don’t give you cups for water and you have to drink out of water fountains. I purchased a bottle of water at the café at the front of the spa. It would’ve been nicer if they provided cups for water. Otherwise, had my smoothie at the café and also had a grilled sandwich which I enjoyed. I wasn’t sure how this experience would be but it’s a top notch spa and they definitely go out of their way to make you feel welcome and happy. I would definitely go back there.
Barbara G — Google review
Great Spa, But Hygiene Rules Need to Be Enforced I’m a Rotorua local and visit the Polynesian Spa almost every day. It’s a beautiful and relaxing place, but lately I’ve noticed some group tour visitors behaving in ways that make the experience uncomfortable for others. Some people change clothes outside the changing rooms, enter the pools wearing their regular clothes or underwear instead of swimwear, and even spit or blow water out into the pool. It’s unpleasant and unhygienic. After COVID, everyone should understand the importance of cleanliness and public manners. I hope the management will give stronger reminders or warnings about proper spa etiquette to keep this world-famous place clean and enjoyable for all visitors.
Sunny L — Google review
Visited yesterday after seeing all great reviews but was very disappointed. We decided to take our three children but on arrival walked through and seen there was only one small pool for kids to play in and two hot pools for us. It looked like the pool in a compound surrounded by four walls and no views of the lake or anything else. Given the price of entry is the same as hanmer it is no where near habner in being family friendly. That said me and my partner would look at visiting again without children to get the full experience but if your traveling with children and think they would enjoy it save your money and take them the local swimming pool.

Te Puia in Rotorua, New Zealand is a Maori cultural center and geothermal preserve that offers a unique blend of nature and culture. Spanning 60 hectares, it features the impressive Pohutu Geyser, the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, which erupts around 20 times a day. Visitors can choose between day and night experiences, with the latter offering an enchanting atmosphere under the starry sky.
We did the Te Pu combo and what an incredible experience! Well worth it! The guided tour to see the Kiwis and the Gysers was a brilliant start, then the buffet dinner was absolutely delicious, such a range of food to cater to all tastes and dietary preferences! The cultural display was stunning, so interesting to learn immersively about the Māori culture. Then onto the Gyers and light show at the end, which was a stunning end to a wonderful evening. This honestly is a do not miss
Ciara L — Google review
Te Puia is an absolutely stunning and fascinating place — the geothermal landscape, the geysers, and the deep Māori heritage make it truly unique and worth visiting. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the cultural spirit of the place is unmistakable. However, the guided tour was quite disappointing. It felt overly long and slow-paced — 90 minutes, with at least half of that time spent standing around without much happening. While I fully understand that the tour is an important source of income for the Māori community, visitors also value their time and expect an engaging, well-structured experience. Several people in our group clearly lost interest, which is unfortunate because Te Puia has so much to offer. Suggested improvements: • Shorten the tour to 45–60 minutes, focusing on the most interesting and meaningful parts. • Add more interactive or live elements — demonstrations, Q&A sessions, brief performances, or moments for guests to engage directly. • Consider offering two options: a standard tour and a premium cultural experience, so guests can choose the depth they want. • Train guides to keep the storytelling dynamic, with more energy and interaction. The place itself is extraordinary — it just deserves a tour program that matches its beauty and cultural significance. With a few thoughtful changes, Te Puia could easily become one of the most memorable experiences in New Zealand.
Ben S — Google review
A truely wonderful experience and a must for visitors to not only Rotorua but to New Zealand and the magnificent islands. The beauty is how New Zealand has embraced the Māori culture and rich history. This experience includes everything from traditional dancing show to seeing the springs to a lovely buffet dinner. The attraction is only a 5 minute drive from town centre so is easy to reach, but make sure you book tickets in advance! Enjoy
J N — Google review
This is a must do if you visit Rotorua. From understanding Māori traditions, craft education, geothermal geysers, and kiwi conservation through to a fantastic cultural experience with song, dance and a haka. And yes if you are lucky you will get to see one of the kiwi birds in their nocturnal house. Our guide Ngahuia was excellent and was passionate about telling her tribe and ancestors story. A fantastic couple of hours. Highly recommend a visit and make sure you book tickets in advance and ones that include the cultural performances. Afterwards we visited the Pataki Kai cafe for a panini and drinks. Nice end to the visit.
Shaun L — Google review
Great place. Experienced the geothermal wonderland - natural geysers, bunking muds. Māori arts and crafts Institute. They had personalised guide, who explained in detail. Good food and cultural programme. Some memoirs are available to be purchased. You can see Kiwi butlers in captivity. Though you walk around and go closer to the geysers on foot, they arrange electric carts for your return.

This experience was fantastic. We did the Te Po combo. The guided tour through the school was so much more than I thought it would be. I learned a lot and I love the idea behind the school. Its such a lovely concept. The dinner was also great. I wasnt expecting much but the food options were plentiful and everything was so delicious. Cultural performance was stunning and fun and beautiful all at the same time. Seeing the geyser at night was beautiful. So peaceful and pretty. I highly recommend doing this option and taking in all the culture and history. Everyone who works at Te Puia is very passionate about their Mouri heritage. Thank you
Nicky H — Google review
One of the best experiences we had while staying in Rotorua! We did the Te Pō Indigenous Evening Experience. The Māori cultural performance was probably the highlight, seeing it in person especially the Haka is powerful. Our tour guide, was super friendly and engaging with our group. We got to see the Pōhutu Geyser and have the Hāngi Buffet for dinner -which the food was unreal. Overall a great experience, couldn’t be happier certainly a bucket list thing to do if you visit NZ
Jamie G — Google review
We went on the guided tour and saw the school interior, saw Kiwi learnt a bit of the artwork process - all carefully and manually done. The gayser view and smell were also one of a kind, in a positive way. :) Luckily we were also privileged with the Maori cultural evening experience followed by hangi dinner and international company. I truly would like to focus here on the appreciation of the set up, Maori not abandoning their roots and cultural heritage. Last and not least me being able to experience a bit of the culture. I strongly recommend the Te Po and the full 90 minutes tour with Kiwi's. Thank you

With over 4,000 five-star reviews, it is a top-rated zipline experience on the North Island.
Jasmine and Mitch did a great job! We had an amazing time trekking and zip lining through the forest. It was also really interesting to learn more about New Zealand's wildlife ecosystem. I commend their team and company on their efforts in conserving the forest reserve and preserving the country's beautiful, yet fragile, flora and fauna.

Great experience. This was my first time on a zip line. I have a fear of heights but that wasn’t a problem. This was so fun. Our guides Reuben and Travis were amazing. I felt safe the entire time. Thanks guys!!

What an absolutely incredible adventure! From start to finish, the Rotorua Canopy Tours team made the entire experience exciting, safe, and unforgettable. The staff were beyond excellent — warm, welcoming, and full of energy. A very special shoutout to Travis and Andrew, who went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time. Their professionalism, humour, and knowledge turned an already amazing adventure into something truly memorable. Rotorua Canopy Tours is lucky to have them — honestly, they deserve a pay rise for the effort, passion, and care they put into their work. Highly recommend this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

A truly amazing experience from start to finish. Quality safety gear that is in top shape is provided, and additional layers are also provided for colder weather. Guides were very professional and engaging with all the guests, more like a family adventure rather than tour with strangers. Awesome information between zip lines about forrest conservation and even hand feeding of birds in the wild. Highly recommend this experience for individuals and families.

Went for original canopy package. Safety is assured with briefing. Some photo shots taken for us. Glad to know that while we are having fun, some of the funds are used to conserve the area better. The site greenery has improved a lot through these efforts. Go and have fun! Matt and Mitch have made this experience safe, fun and engaging!

Amazing experience made more wonderful with Guides - Lochlan and Andrew. Our guides were funny, warm and made us feel welcome with some awesome jokes while at the same time making sure we were safe throughout the entire experience. They were also knowledgable and helped us understand the conversation efforts being made to preserve the virgin nature of the forest. Thank you from team Malaysia and we can only highly recommend this experience. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!

Fantastic experience and great guides! This was a beautiful day out with lots of fun and information about the forest and the local wildlife. The guides are very passionate about their land and made the whole experience a good time. Seeing the forest from above is even more amazing then just walking it. The ziplines were so much fun and we felt very safe on them and with the guidance from our leaders. Definitely an experience to do and it all supports the beautiful NZ environment.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with Rotorua Duck Tours, where you can explore the stunning landscapes and rich history of Rotorua in a unique amphibious vehicle. These genuine WWII landing crafts, affectionately known as "Ducks," provide a thrilling ride as you glide across both land and water.
We had a great time with Karen as our driver and guide, we learnt heaps of cool facts a stories but also riding in an amzing piece of history, ya can’t beat it. But don’t be like us and forget all your warm gear! I would have loved it even more if I was toasty in the gear I bought but left at our accommodation hahaha Hat scarf and vest highly recommended for the tour during winter lol

We had the pleasure of hopping aboard Matilda, with Riley as our captain..Not only was she full of humour, but her knowledge was on point. She made sure we left with a piece of that mātauranga to carry with us. Would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn’t been and to take the ride with the wonderful woman

This experience was a lot of fun - discovering that Rotorua is home to a beautiful old amphibious vehicle was unexpected, and the opportunity to be driven around in it was too good to pass up! The tour-guide's commentary was very informative, the landscapes we visited were beautiful, the experience of driving into the water and sailing around in a solid old piece of wartime engineering was unique, and the friendly little dog who came along for the ride was a great bonus.

Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village is a cultural attraction located in the heart of Rotorua, New Zealand. It is the only living Maori village in the country and offers visitors a chance to experience the unique way of life of the Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao people. The village provides guided tours, traditional Maori dance performances, and a feast featuring authentic Maori food.
This place is so neat! The steam mud vents and the geysers were shooting out steam while we were there. What beautiful geothermal landscapes! And the bonus was that we were able to see the baby kiwi bird in the enclosures. So cool! There was no wait when we were there on a Saturday afternoon in May. You will need to go with a tour guide which will be organized after you buy your tickets. Highly recommend this visit.

Great guide. She really brought the village to life with stories of her family and showing off the culinary skills of her people. Very friendly and wonderful town. Saw geysers, hot springs, and bubbling mud

I’m so glad I made time to do this and I highly recommend anyone going to give yourself a couple hours, buy the all day pass, and time it so you are there for their daily cultural performance at 12:30. It was worth every penny. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and the performance and tour exceeded my expectations. Our guide, Daniel, was very patient and thoughtful. He made an effort to learn everyone’s name and took the time to genuinely try to teach us about the history, the culture, and the language. Huge thanks to everyone involved!

It is the legacy and home of the Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao people, who have been sharing their unique way of life with visitors from all around the world for over two hundred years. The village is open 7 days a week with guided tours. We signed on to one of the paid tours though we had to contend with a slight drizzle. The tour is comprehensive lasting about an hour and half and goes through the village people's fascinating daily life in the geothermal springs area. It includes the bathing, washing, herb cultivation, cooking and walking past their homes. We ate corn cooked in steam for few minutes. It tasted yummy. The historical chief's home and meeting place are well preserved and interesting to see. Sometimes you can watch a cultural show by the village people. The active geysers in the area can be seen during the tour. Toilets available. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Uneven terrain, lot of walking. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Parking at the entrance is ample and is easy to find. There are many stores in the village selling craftwork items. Friendly staff and great service.

It was a rainy and cold day in Rotorua but it did not stop me from my very first “Maori experience”. It was very cultural and unique place to visit for tourists. The chief guided us through the village. She did it with all her hearts and respect to her culture. We really appreciated the visiting session. We also booked the Haka show and it was very emotional and worthwhile. The artists performed wholeheartedly and the audience can definitely feel it. I highly recommend taking the tour to understand more about the Maori cultures while you are in New Zealand.
Giao D — Google review
The guided tour at Whakarewarewa was amazing! We learned so much about life in the village and how people live with the geothermal landscape. Our guide was super friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun. A real highlight was trying the corn cooked in the hot springs—the flavour was exquisite! Highly recommend this village tour if you’re in Rotorua.

This is a MUST VISIT place as the 1st nation are the people that makes New Zealand . It was an eye opener especially when the chief was the one showing us around. We even tried their cooked food using the thermal springs to cook. Excellent

aMAZEme is a top attraction in Rotorua that's perfect for families. The 1.4 km hedge maze offers an appropriate level of challenge for all ages, making it great for toddlers to explore and play the role of an explorer. Additionally, there's an animal petting area where kids can interact with farm animals. Visitors can also enjoy a walk-in rabbit cage, providing a unique experience with these adorable creatures.
Loved it. It was our first time and we decided to give it ago what we thought would take 20mins ended being an hour long but we enjoyed every bit of it even getting lost so often 😂 and after the maze there is a playing area with giant board games for everyone to play and enjoy. They also provide sunscreen and there are toilets available. Highly recommend.

Was so much fun! The staff are lovely and have such a neat area for the kids (and the big kids too) to play with. I let my 7yo son lead the way. He did it twice in 12min and 17min-15min. Thought it was a bit easy, but other adults we crossed paths with said it took them like 50min.... Must just mean my 7yo ADHD son is smarter than most adults 😉 😂

What a wonderful world here at amaze me. Lots of picnic table, it okay to bring your own food with you. There are lots of games to enjoy with the kids, sand pit, dress up play house, bunny, the maze, being some good walking shoes, make it to the middle of. The maze. And take a selfie on the big chair. Fully fenced area. Safe area for the kids who like to run. Mini snacks st the counter, ice locks and ice-cream in the freezer. Wonderful staff, made us feel at home. Special local discounts. We spent most of the day here and finished up our day on the agrodome playground. We are looking forward to our next family visit with amaze me.

So much fun for all ages! Plenty of changing rooms with heaters, cubbies to store your stuff. A quick, easy ride to the top, and the views from the top are incredible. The ride down is a sloshy thrill, and the hot tubs at the bottom are incredibly relaxing. We went first thing Sunday morning during shoulders season and had the place to ourselves. Can’t wait to come back!

Bucket List Must Do in Rotorua. I did mine on a drizzly cloudy Monday. Weather was late autumn so no chance of sunny day! Very memorable as my 58th birthday touring North & South Islands doing my bucket list adrenaline activities. The hot tub, dry sauna, warm water inside balloon made the experience u forgettable !!!!!

So much fun! We only had time to do the Mega track but it was a blast. The sidewinder would have been a great track too. Next time for sure. The staff is so friendly and helpful. There are saunas and hot tubs to keep you warm. The changing rooms are private and have heaters. Pro tip-bring a waterproof case for your phone to take pictures from the top.

Absolutely loved our experience! We were a group from Auckland who had stayed over night in Rotorua and did some team bonding on the Tuesday. The team who looked after us were nothing but amazing and eased some nerves along the way. The hot tubs and saunas before and after the zorb 👌
Ashley T — Google review
Super great experience! This is truly something unique that is definitely worth a try. Everyone says it's like a waterslide but its definitely more chaotic than that! I went by myself on the first hill and didn't really like it at all and was worried that the rest of the day was going to be long because we'd paid for all 4 rides but I rode with my sister on the next one and had an ABSOLUTE BLAST! On the 3rd hill we put 3 of us in one and it was also super fun. And I didn't care for the last hill as much (had 2 riders), I think our ball maybe had a little too much water in it. The staff are super excellent and friendly and the facilities are nice and clean. I appreciated the hot tubs everywhere. Overall, I'd super recommend going but definitely bring another person with you. The zorbs are not fun by yourself. If I went again, I think I'd purchase 2-3 rides instead of 4 and I'd skip out on the Mega track.

If you're seeking an exhilarating outdoor experience, look no further than River Rats Raft & Kayak. This family-owned adventure company invites you and your kids to explore the stunning landscapes of Rotorua through a variety of water activities including kayaking, rafting, and river sledging. You can choose from different packages that allow you to focus on one activity or combine them for a full day of fun.
For anyone on holiday in NZ - regardless where you land or how long you stay - you should book a rafting experience on the Kaituna, and you should book it through River Rats. The staff is fun, funny, and accommodating: from the moment my wife and I walked into their facility, we felt like one of the gang. Neither of us had ever been white water rafting, but our guide Lennie helped us navigate the Kaituna (and the tallest commercial waterfall in the world) like we were old pros. I would gladly pay 10x as much to do it again; it’s an amazing experience!

We loved this experience. It’s so fun and thrilling. The guides were great. They made the experience well worth it. The waterfall was amazing and not as scary as we thought but still got our adrenaline going. I can’t recommend this experience more and we will for sure come back to do it

Must do in Rotorua!! Thrilling and fun experience on the beautiful warm Kaituna River. Celebrating my 50th with my son. Thank you!!! What a highlight!
Grace L — Google review
My favorite thing I did in Rotorua. A truly special evening. It was very cloudy and windy the day I did it and I was called well in advance with a warning that it would be a tougher kayaking journey across the lake. I am not in amazing shape but decided to go anyway. It was definitely a work out but doable. And once u get to the hot pools, it feels so worth it. We got to spend ample time soaking and it was magical. Our dinner was fantastic, and the final kayaking trip to the glow worms was amazing. The clouds opened up enough to get a lovely sunset and kayak under the stars. The cave was so cool to see! Lots of glow worms! We were told Maori stories on the trip back and while my arms were sore the next day I will likely do this every time I'm in Rotorua. So much fun.
Melissa L — Google review
We loved our tour with Justin! We went during the off-season and did not know to confirm our tour ahead of time but Justin made an exception and brought my husband and I out on a private kayak tour to the hot pools! The views of rotorua were STUNNING and Justin was a phenomenal guide. He told us so much about the Māori culture through interesting stories about the history of Rotorua. We also enjoyed the hot pools - it was perfect on a cold day and after kayaking! Justin even brought us on a short tour to a cave nearby to spot some glow worms. It was truly the best morning and we would highly recommend River Rats to anyone visiting Rotorua interested in either kayaking or rafting or both!!
Sha I — Google review
Superb experience from start to finish! Though time on the river was only about 45 minutes, the guides kept us engaged and entertained throughout, sharing snippets of Māori culture and history about the land, flora and fauna. We did the Grade 5 Kaituna River route with them and it was so much fun. You get to go down a 7m waterfall, the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world! They made us feel sufficiently prepped and reassured, while keeping everyone psyched. They also have a few tricks up their sleeves to keep it interesting leading up to that 7m drop and even after. River Rats also has a roving photographer who captures some great action shots — it cost us an additional NZD49 to get them, which is a bit on the pricey side but still reasonable given the effort, skill and coordination required. Memories for a lifetime! Would highly recommend anyone coming to Rotorua to raft with River Rats.

If you're looking for a wet and wild adventure with a side of laughter, River Rats Raft Co is the place to be! My husband and I had a blast on our rafting trip, and the memories we made will last a lifetime. The guides were absolute legends, providing just the right mix of excitement and humor. The rapids were thrilling, and the scenery was stunning. The large waterfall was the perfect way to cap the experience, giving us an unforgettable adrenaline rush. We'd return in a heartbeat and highly recommend this experience for anyone seeking a fun and memorable adventure in Rotorua!
A. R — Google review
This is a really unique experience! The scenery along the river is vibrant green and has an almost tropical look to it (even when rafting in the colder months). The beauty of the area is awesome. In addition to that, I would describe this river as different than others I've rafted before - it has lots of water, and very few rocks. Splashy fun! It's also a fairly quick trip. I can tell that the owner/guides are passionate about what they do, and enjoy sharing the experience with others. I was nervous about being cold, as we went in September. When first getting soaked the water felt cold. But then the wetsuit did it's job and I was comfortable after only a few minutes. This was a very memorable part of our New Zealand trip. And I'm so glad I did it. If this looks like fun, go for it!

Redwoods – Whakarewarewa Forest is a picturesque redwood forest in Rotorua, New Zealand. It offers walking, biking, and horse-riding trails with convenient toilet facilities. The forest features majestic Californian redwoods reaching over 70 meters in height and beautiful native trees. Planted in the early 20th century, these redwoods have thrived and grow even faster than in their native habitat. The extensive network of mountain biking trails makes it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.
Absolutely gorgeous experience. Lots of amazing and Beautiful trails to walk, various lengths so you can plan the day putting well. Moderate level of fitness required. Breathtaking views at one point. Lots of animals. There are even horse tracks and biking tracks also. Decent parking. Visitors centre here also. It's also the access area to the redwoods tree walk.

A fantastic experience. I didn't think I was good with heights but doing the night treetop walk was so beautiful with all the lanterns and sculptures lit up. We also did the daytime walk which gives even more perspective of the size of the Redwoods. If you can only choose one, definitely do the night walk. Also, you are able to walk a loop track through the forest (with dogs on leash) for free.

The hiking trip was a great experience, made even better by the clear and easy-to-follow signage along the trails. The signs not only guided the way but also provided a range of walking options with different time durations, making it convenient to choose a route that suited our pace and preference. The variety ensured that both casual walkers and more seasoned hikers could enjoy the area comfortably.

Beautiful, even in the rain!! The trees are incredible, we didn't have much time so took the Memorial Grove Trail. The Redwoods Treewalk is a unique experience located in the iconic Whakarewarewa Forest, featuring 28 suspension bridges that take you through redwood trees over 120 years old. By day, it offers an extraordinary recreational walk, while at night, it becomes a magical setting for photography. The treewalk provides an opportunity to explore one of New Zealand's oldest exotic forests from a new perspective.
I booked the Day & Night Combo, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable highlights of my trip. Experiencing the forest in both daylight and after dark felt like visiting two completely different worlds. 🌞 Daytime Walk The daytime walk was calm, refreshing, and a chance to truly appreciate the natural beauty of the towering redwoods. Walking along the suspension bridges, high among the treetops, gave me a unique perspective of the forest floor below and the incredible height of the trees above. The light filtering through the canopy created a peaceful atmosphere, and I had plenty of time to slow down and soak it all in. The design features along the walk — including the wooden lanterns and artistic touches — blended seamlessly with the lush ferns and native plants. Even in daylight, these installations added colour and character to the natural landscape. 🌌 Nighttime Walk Once the sun went down, the forest completely transformed. Hundreds of lanterns designed by David Trubridge lit up the night in intricate patterns and soft glows, giving the forest an enchanting, almost magical feel. Walking across the bridges at night felt like entering a fantasy world — glowing shapes hanging among the trees, a giant illuminated bird in flight, and the forest floor bathed in vibrant lighting. What I loved most was the contrast: during the day, it’s about appreciating nature’s raw beauty; at night, it’s about immersing yourself in an art installation that brings the forest alive in a new and unexpected way. 💡 Overall The Day & Night Combo is the best way to experience the Redwoods Treewalk because it shows you two sides of the same forest — one tranquil and grounding, the other magical and dreamlike. The staff were welcoming, the walkways felt safe but adventurous, and the entire experience was well worth it. Highly recommended: If you’re in Rotorua, this is an absolute must-do.

Absolutely breathtaking! The towering redwoods create such a serene and calming atmosphere—it’s impossible not to feel at peace here. The trails are well-maintained, the air is fresh, and every corner feels like stepping into a natural wonder. Perfect for hiking, photography, or simply reconnecting with nature. Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to escape the hustle and recharge in one of the most scenic forests I’ve ever visited!

Super late review! Brought my cousin here for a short holiday. He lives in SG and said what he loves most about NZ is how close it is to nature — everything feels so natural (since most of SG is man-made). We went up the tree walk with my young kids and they loved it! Such a peaceful and refreshing experience. Definitely a must-do when in Rotorua.

The Redwoods Nightlights in Rotorua was nice, but honestly not as amazing as I expected. The lights and atmosphere were beautiful, and it’s definitely something unique to experience once. However, the ticket price felt a bit expensive for what it was, and there were way too many people when I went. We had to wait quite a while to get on the walkway, and it got pretty cold later in the evening. It’s still a cool experience, especially for families or first-time visitors, but I’d recommend going early and bringing warm clothes. Overall, not bad — just a bit overpriced and too crowded for me.
Alex L — Google review
Prior warning there's a long wait. We were in the queue for over an hour. The long wait is not because of an inefficiency but for our own safety. But the wait is worth it. I recommend going at night. Because once they are lit, it is lit. The glowworm cave is an added bonus.
Devin N — Google review
Two star for the price. Ive wanted to do this for years, but the price was a barrier. Finally decided to take the kids, and saw a walking enterance! Pro tip - there's a free walking track under the loop! We went there at night and in the morning. The paid walk is literally to use the bridge. I was a bit shocked at how steep the price is for such a short distance. But the walk itself is stunning and a must do! (Bridge optional if you have money to burn)

Paradise Valley Springs is a wildlife park located just 10 minutes from Rotorua, offering an up-close encounter with New Zealand's native animals, birdlife, and African Lions. Visitors can hand-feed sociable farm animals like alpacas, emus, and sheep throughout the day. The park features cascading waterfalls and a 20-ft.-high treetop boardwalk for stunning views.
Awesome park and wildlife park. Was great to see the feeding of the lions and patting the cubs. Animals all well looked after. Very knowledgeable staff. Reasonably priced. Although the line to pat the cubs was huge, waited an hour, patience was key. Important to be quiet when approaching the cub area as loud noises scare them. You can feed the animals and see some historical sites along the boardwalk. Well maintained.

What a wonderful place hidden away in a beautiful setting. Patting the lion cubs was truly memorable and watching the lions being feed was real entertainment for us all. I’ve been to quite a few attractions like this and it’s the best one so far. The park is big and full of different kinds of animals. It’s also very clean and well planned out. Not gonna lie, I thought it was quite expensive. However, I found it worth it as I was exploring the place. You can tell the animals are all well taken care of. It’s a nice day activity for all different ages. It’s cool we get to feed the animals for $2! It was cool getting the chance to pet the lion cubs! Definitely worth queuing for. My favourite one is the donkey, he’s definitely a photogenic one.

A beautiful natural wildlife park with plenty of animals to keep you entertained, especially ducks! You can feed some of the animals and if you arrive at certain times you may get to pat the Lion cubs. We were in and out within the hour, but you could spend a whole day here, great for children and adults alike!

First time visiting here. Not too busy even on a school holiday. There was a long line to pat the lion cubs. Awesome experience for the kids. They also sell feeds for the ducks, trouts and other animals. Very interactive and not too complicated. We all enjoyed the experience.

Wow this place is truly special. We took our toddler and he had a blast running around after the ducks (which are everywhere). Personally I loved the treetops walk and the feeling of being amongst nature. A bit weird to see lions in NZ and I did not need the experience of patting their cubs. Doesn’t sound very ethical but I’m not a zookeeper

Skyline Rotorua is an adventure center offering a range of thrilling activities such as luge tracks, zip-lining, and a high-adrenaline swing. The experience begins with an eight-seater Gondola ride providing breathtaking views of Lake Rotorua and the city. At the top of Mount Ngongotaha, visitors can explore nature trails, go mountain biking, or indulge in shopping and wine tasting.
This was beautiful and a lot more fun than we thought it would be for a gondola ride and a luge ride, especially since I'd never done a summer luge before. The gondola was really well run, easy to get on and off, and the staff were very accommodating for those of us who were slower. The breakfast buffet was *amazing*. The chef behind the breakfast bar was making these astonishing fried eggs, and there was actually black pudding along with most of the rest of a great British style-breakfast. Lots of fruit, including the local canned plums, and all one might want for breakfast. The luge was super safe, actually. I loved that if you accidentally let go of the handlebar it would automatically brake you to a standstill. The courses were clean and clear and easy to follow, the higher ranked courses had good banking, the easy one didn't have any banks, but I suspect they assumed you weren't going to be going that fast anyway and it brought me through some beautiful forest spaces there. It was fun to see the wildlife that had come to exist there as the people were pretty much stuck to the courses but the wildlife were content to just be clear of the tracks. We also found a nature walk, that had quite a few detailed signs for the kinds of wildlife, plant life, and features one should be able to see in the area. That was more fun than I thought it would be and the walking trail is actually quite a good distance and up a good grade.

Skyline Rotorua is absolutely stunning and fun. You get amazing views on the gondola. And an amazing view on the mountain of Rotorua. The zipline is super fun and beautiful and taking photos on the chairlift back up is a highlight. The luge was so fun. It’s basically racing but powered by gravity and is incredible. On the skyline Rotorua, there are amazing shops and cafes. I would love to go again.

Visited Skyline Rotorua Luge in September 2025 and it was such an amazing and fun experience for the whole family! The adventure starts with a scenic gondola ride up the hill, offering stunning panoramic views of Rotorua city, the lake and surrounding forest. Once at the top, the luge tracks are where the real excitement begins! The staff were friendly, helpful and ensured safety at all times, which made the experience enjoyable and stress-free. Everything was well-organized, from getting helmets to boarding the chairlift back up for more rides. We visited in early spring and the weather was perfect, cool air, clear skies and fewer crowds. After our luge rides, we stopped at the café to enjoy the view before heading down. Skyline Rotorua Luge is an absolute must-do activity, fun, safe and unforgettable. Perfect for all ages!
Raihah R — Google review
Absolutely amazing, my son and I had so much fun and the restaurant was great, even though I didn't realise from web research that it was a buffet! The buffet was top notch, restaurant quality food. We bought extra luge tickets we enjoyed it so much, and they allowed us to come back to complete our adventure pass activities after the weather stopped us doing the skyswing and skyline, but we had great fun luge-ing all day in the rain! Luge'd again when it was dry and it was still fun but we were used to drifting around the corners in the rain and going faster, so don't let bad weather put you off! We're returning again in 3 weeks! (Sorry, all other photos had my son and I don't want to post him online!)
Geena C — Google review
Great experience and the restaurant has nice buffet. Views are spectacular from skyline Gonzalez while watching the luge rides and mountain biking going down the hill. Love the novelty and souvenir shops too. Best part is meeting new people to converse with.

Most probably the highlight of our NZ trip! Our family (2 adults, 18 yo + 16 yo) bought the Gondola + Zipline + 5 Luge Rides Package. If there was a similar package but with 10 luge rides instead I would suggest you purchase that - it was bloody fantastic! The zipline was quick and thrilling, but the best part of our day was the luge rides. Cannot recommend this highly enough! We also had coffee and pastries from the cafe, was delicious, fresh and warm!
Elanya H — Google review
Went to try Gondola and ended up doing the luge too. So much fun! Wish we had more time to do luge but we had a tour booked after. But, overall was amazing!!
Kat B — Google review
We loved our day at Skyline Rotarua! The Gondola up was lots of fun and we spotted some cats and rabbits below, which my 4yo loved. The views from the top were breathtaking, and the luge was lots of fun - great for all ages and you could either take it slow and scenic or go for a fast, thrilling ride. We were disappointed that only 3 of the tracks were in operation when we arrived, yet ticket prices were not discounted and we missed out on the dinosaur track which I'd told my daughter about. Loved by all in our group though! Lunch was also nice, not too expensive and we even enjoyed and an ice cream overlooking the view. You're also able to hire a locker for I think $6 which was convenient as we had a backpack.

Mitai Maori Village, located just a short drive from Rotorua's center, offers an immersive experience in Maori culture and tradition. Visitors can enjoy a guided bush walk, cultural performances featuring traditional dress, ancient warrior canoe paddling down the Wai-o-whiro stream, displays of weaponry and combat, as well as graceful poi dances. The village also provides insight into daily activities and rituals of local tribes and showcases the use of indigenous plants for medicinal purposes.
Reviewing as a whole experience. The host spoke very well and really explained a lot about the Maori culture. I really like the part where we walk in the dark to see the canoes. The greeting by the family and the show. It was the first time I tried a proper traditional hangi from a Maori village and there was a big spread of food. Out of them, I like the beef stew, mussels and the spinach. We even got to see a lot of glowworms at the end of the experience. Definitely a worthy experience.
Wilson S — Google review
As a local to Rotorua The Mitai Māori Village was a captivating journey into the heart of Māori culture and a pleasure to experience for the first time, a 10/10 experience offering an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and rich tradition. You embark on a guided tour through a lush, immersive forest, where the hauntingly beautiful Māori calls echo through the trees, creating an ambiance of curiosity. The biggest highlight was witnessing a tribe of Māori performers navigating a traditional canoe along the freshwater stream, a display of both strength and grace. The experience is further enriched by a delicious traditional Māori Hangi buffet, featuring foods (chicken / lamb / stuffing / potato & sweet potato) cooked in the earth, as well as delectable side dishes (including potato bake / seafood chowder / garlic butter mussels / prawns & fried bread to name a few). The evening crescendoed with a powerful live haka, where the intensity of the Māori performers coupled with their cultural weapons display truely brought the performance to life. The village offered an intimate setting for educational purpose, including a brief Q&A session from staff (this is the only area I believe required some attention as a few of the answers seemed a little vague and sometimes were answered quite abruptly - but this is just me being super critical). To conclude the night, we were treated to a magical night tour of the glow worms, providing a serene and enchanting finale to a truly immersive cultural experience.
Kylie M — Google review
It was a meaningful cultural experience! The performance was truly impressive🫨 I was fully immersed in their storytelling and singing. The food was decent, but the highlight was definitely the amazing cultural show and atmosphere💯 Plus, it was great to meet and connect with people from all around the world.
Zhi K — Google review
This is not an intimate, small group-size cultural exchange. Having said that, the host and performers were enthusiastic and both the walks and the show were educational and not without humor. The Q&A before the evening walk is obviously dependent on the quality of the questions, but in general I like the idea. The walk after had a bunch of glowworms so not something you want to miss out on. In spite of a large crowd, we had an enjoyable evening with decent food.
Paul J — Google review
Very cool cultural experience. I love learning the history and culture of different people around the world. It's really wonderful how the Maori tribe invites outsiders to experience their traditional way of life. Really loved the Hangi feast. Wish I had saved room for more Pavlova.
Eric T — Google review
I booked for myself and my two teenage kids, and I have to admit I almost didn’t because I thought it was a bit expensive — plus, my son is a fussy eater. But let me tell you… it was 1000% worth it! We had the most amazing night. There wasn’t a single thing we didn’t love — the educational experience, the food, the singing and dancing, and the meaning behind it all were just incredible. The food was delicious — even my son, the fussy one, ate more than anyone! If you’re thinking about going, just book it — you won’t be disappointed. 10 out of 10!
Erin J — Google review
Food was good, performance was good, experience was good. There is a big crowd so can get a bit hard to hear the host when exploring outside. But recommended if you have not been to one of these Maori Villages!

Nestled in the lush Waipa Valley, Secret Spot Hot Tubs Rotorua offers a unique hot pool experience with 12 private cedar tubs overlooking Waipa Stream. These tubs are big enough for up to six people and are filled with fresh water, providing a secluded and tranquil soak amidst natural greenery and tree ferns.
So glad we went here, both my husband and I enjoyed it very much. Greeted by lovely staff and prompt process done so we could order drinks and change to head off to our tub. Simple cafe foods available. The entire space has a lovely atmosphere. Tubs have a great view of the lush, green bush to watch the bird life while you enjoy your relaxing hot tub. There are cold baths available nearby that you can use during your time. Tubs are private but you can hear others nearby. 3x showers available (no doors, semi-private) Ample parking spaces. Located next to a bike track. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend.
Chantel T — Google review
Our hot tub experience in Rotorua was amazing! We had 45 minutes to relax, and it was so peaceful that we could hear the birds while enjoying the view of the trees in the background. We also ordered drinks and tried the ice plunge — such a refreshing and unique experience. Overall, so far so good!
Gellie W — Google review
I had such a relaxing experience here. The private setting made it feel peaceful and secluded, surrounded by beautiful native bush and the sound of birds. The tubs are well maintained, clean, and perfectly heated which made it easy to just sit back and unwind. I really liked the booking system too, as it kept everything smooth and stress-free. The staff were welcoming and friendly, making sure everything was ready for me before I arrived. It’s an ideal spot whether you’re looking for some quiet time alone, a romantic escape, or just a unique way to enjoy Rotorua’s geothermal charm. Highly recommend if you’re visiting the area and want something special that combines relaxation with a real connection to nature.

A beautiful setting, perfect for a bit of private relaxation. The building is nicely designed both inside and out - with lockers, showers, and even a storage box right next to your tub (there’s also a parasol in case of light rain). You can order a drink directly to the hot tub, which is a great touch. We had our slot booked around dusk, so we could watch the forest gradually light up around us. Highly recommended, especially for couples.
Adam B — Google review
Such an amazing tucked away gem, hidden amongst the beautiful nature. Absolutely loved it. From our own little hot tub to the cold plunge tub. Ordered drinks as we arrived and our drinks were delivered to our tub, nice changing rooms with showers. Can hire towels if needed and parking is good.
Mishady K — Google review
Quite pricey but it’s definitely worth it. I love going to hot pools and having privacy is such a huge plus. The tub, water, and the area is clean. The attendants were attentive and quick. When it gets too hot, the cold plunge was near. Very refreshing. It’s quite an instagrammable place. You shouldn’t be missing out on this when visiting Rotorua.
JC — Google review
We received a warm reception from the hospitable staff. The experience of being in harmony with nature was fantastic, with a pool at an optimal temperature and a short distance from the reception. The shower facilities were of a high standard, and the food and drinks were a fitting conclusion to our stay.
Shannon T — Google review
Very zen pool experience! Tubs are spacious and fit up to 6 people. We had tub number 11 the 'toastie frog' and it was wonderfully warm-almost too warm at times. The cold plunge was a lifesaver and alternating between the two was refreshing. 45mins is perfect and long enough to soak without feeling rushed, though I was still bummed when the timer went off! Overall, a great little treat.

When visiting Rotorua, make sure to check out the Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park for a truly relaxing experience. Nestled in park-like grounds and just a short distance from the city center, this holiday park offers easy access to geothermal wonders, golf courses, and mountain biking tracks. Accommodation options range from cozy log cabins to tent sites and powered caravan/motorhome sites.
This was our second time staying! The staff are super friendly and accommodating and the cabins are super clean and tidy. We love staying here (this has become one of our favourite places to stay) we will be back soon.
Nekel U — Google review
We recently stayed 2 nights at Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park with our camper-van and had a wonderful experience. The park is spacious and well-organized, making it easy to park and set up. The powered sites are generous in size and well-maintained, with good access to water and electricity hookups. The communal facilities, including the kitchen, and clean bathrooms with hot showers, were excellent and very convenient for camper-van travelers. The location is ideal—close enough to the city centre and major attractions, yet peaceful and surrounded by greenery. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing a warm welcome and useful local tips. Pros: • Spacious, powered sites • Clean, well-equipped communal facilities • Friendly and helpful staff • Convenient location near Rotorua attractions Cons: • Some facilities could use refurbishment Overall, Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park is a fantastic choice for camper-van travelers looking for comfort, convenience, and a relaxing atmosphere in Rotorua.

Really great experience. Hot springs weren't on my to do list but I'm very glad I ended up here. Nice mix of locals and tourists (I traveled out of season). They are well geared for motorhome/RV visits. Reception staff are very cool. Rooms and facilities are all clean and up to scratch. The big geyser in Rotorua (the name escapes me) is just up the road.
Frank G — Google review
Very disappointed with my experience here. I had only just made a booking about an hour before arriving for a powered suite for a motor home. When we arrived the smell of the sulphur in the area really got to me. Due to a medical condition having an over-sensitive sense of smell. I found it hard to breathe and near vomiting.. we decided to leave Rotorua and go on further where I wouldn't be affected. We had checked in, but never even went through the gates to our site. We called and explained what had happened. We were told to contact them the next morning about a refund which we did. I received an email back saying they can't give refunds for same day cancellations. But I would've thought a bit of compassion considering the circumstances The booking, arrival and cancellation all happened within a couple of hours. It wasn't just a change of mind, it was a medical reason causing me dry wretching and trouble breathing.
Sherryn W — Google review
Was nice and clean. Lots of kitchen space and utensils supplied with bedding and towels for family shared cabins. Struggled with the clothes drier that swallowed my money. Had wet clothes and towels for 3 days that just would not dry. It was more drizzle weather. Hot pools and cold pools was nice to enjoy for young and old. Family TV rooms for cabin fever time after dinner was difficult as TV was difficult to use. But over all will go again.
Ericka J — Google review
We stayed for 2 nights on an unpowered site and it was perfect. Clean facilities, great hot showers and lots of space (early spring, didn't have to book in advance). The hot pools we're also very nice. Only thing to improve was the wifi, access is free but you only get 1GB a day.
Jen H — Google review
Had a great stay however one person in reception (older lady, glasses, short white hair) was absolutely horrible to my 10 year old son. Threatened to charge him (us) more money as we used their white towels in the pools/hot pools. We weren't told at check-in and there were no signs anywhere around the pools or in the cabins to say we couldn't..... she made him feel small and he came back in tears. It could be written on their website but she did not have to treat my son like that. Safety: The outside pool is slippery and the handrail is not bolted into the concrete paver properly. The paver it is bolted into is actually ripping itself out of the ground. Almost slipped into the pool and the handrail almost came with me. Needs to be fixed asap. Our cabin was clean and I noticed the cleaners took great pride in their work so they deserve to be highly commended. Good location, fairly priced, hot pools are excellent, overall had a generally decent experience except for the way the old reception woman spoke to my child and the slippery outdoor pool.

We stayed in the cabins that have a bathroom and kitchenette. We are a family of 5. Room had 1 double bed,1 bunk set and they provided a cot for our baby no extra charge. Room was warm, Cosy and had everything we needed. Nice park and pools were warm. My family will be back again.

Blue Lake TOP 10 Holiday Park is an informal resort with comfortable accommodations overlooking Lake Tikitapu. The park offers a variety of quarters, from small units to quaint cabins, at affordable prices. The stunning grounds are surrounded by nature and provide exciting outdoor BBQ facilities. Adjacent to Kuirau Park, the park's location is ideal for exploring nearby attractions such as Lake Rotorua, Mitai, and Te Puia.
Stayed here with my wife while in the Rotorua area and plan to again for our next trip. We stayed in one of the "Ensuite Cabin Jayco" units which was perfect; we don't have kids but if you do the additional bunk space for looks comfy and the main bedroom door does provide some separation. Location is also exactly what we were looking for; close enough to Rotorua that everything is convenient, but far enough away that it was quiet and we could even do stargazing by the lake. it is a campsite so there's the expected bustle of people outdoors, but we were never disturbed by any noise and our unit felt nice and private.
Ryan A — Google review
Stayed here in February as a base for Rotorua attractions because we were Top 10 members. Wouldn't stay again though, out of the way, and nothing to do in the immediate area. The campground isn't lakefront - the lake is across the busy road. We were in the back of campground (requested quiet site) and it was quiet though. Office clerk wasn't very helpful suggesting local attractions, and neglected to book us with our Top 10 discount for the Thermal Park. We stayed at Willowhaven Holiday Park closer to Rotorua the next night, with a lovely lakeview, cheaper, quiet, and more convenient to town.
Mari W — Google review
Disappointing Experience at Blue Lake TOP 10 – Falls Short of Premier Standards As a regular TOP 10 member who has stayed at various locations across the country, I had high expectations for Blue Lake TOP 10, especially given its designation as a “premier” site and the premium pricing. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet those expectations. We stayed for two nights during consistent rain – understandable given New Zealand’s unpredictable weather – but the overall facilities and service at the site left much to be desired. The campsite had limited toilet facilities, which were neither well-maintained nor adequately stocked (e.g., no hand soap). The kitchens were outdated and undersized for the number of guests. To add to the disappointment, most indoor activities such as the pool table, air hockey, and spa came at an additional cost, which felt excessive considering the high nightly rate. One particularly frustrating aspect was the overly strict approach to noise. Despite being in a quiet group with no music and speaking at low volumes – and positioned far from other campsites – security began reminding us at 9:30 PM to be silent and “head to bed.” By 10 PM, they returned to ask us to wrap up completely. While we absolutely understand the need to respect quiet hours, this level of enforcement felt unreasonable, especially given the rain and lack of any evident disturbance. If you’re looking for a social camping experience, this may not be the right place. However, if you’re someone who prefers to be in bed by 8 PM and expects complete silence, this site might suit your needs – though I do wonder how they’ll manage road traffic noise! Overall, compared to other TOP 10 locations, this one did not live up to the “premier” label, and I won’t be returning. I’d recommend exploring alternative options that offer a more welcoming and balanced experience.

We had the best time! A super great place to go with (or without) kids. AMPLE facilities, super lovely and clean and always enough! Super nice communal spots (with gas heaters) if it’s positively torrential and you’re looking for some solace! Pump track, multiple playgrounds (plus one at the lakeside), bush walks, bounce pillow, tramps, room to roam, bush walks for any level of fitness and mountain biking +++ (as well as boating if you’ve got one!) and swimming! Surrounded by bush, lots of opportunity to either enjoy your own company or socialise, we loved being down the back at a powered campsite, surrounded by bush, close to pump track and all together blissful! Shop on site has all of the emergency grocery items … plus a few goodies 😉 and staff is brilliant, friendly and accommodating. Love all of the bike wash stations, racks and storage too for anyone traveling with a bike!

We stayed here for a night woth our van on unpowered site. The location is great, the staff is kind, the thermal hot pools are very cool. Unfortunately the only problem was that they were doing some jobs in the bathroom area, and we had only one shower for man. And in the kitchen they don’t provide you with any cutlery nor plates. And you have to pay to use the stove for 30 min. I don’t expect special amenities or services, but I would have expected a discount given the bad conditions. I hope this review helps you guys to think less about money and more about customers.

Felt unwelcome by lady at reception who seemed stressed. Hot baths not hot, blue plastic horrible shallow tub filled with other people's dead skin and built inside confined walls. Power outlet next to the tree so you have to move the branches to get to it. Very old run down place with no holiday vibe about it. I should have read the previous recent reviews before staying so my fault.
Kieran F — Google review
Enjoyed our stay in our number 10 cabin, basic and clean but it did have a dripping shower and mouldy smell in the back bedroom. The thermal pools were excellent on the first night but unuseable on our second night as the hot pool was way too hot perhaps 45d and the two other pools were on the cool side rather than warm. Very disappointing. Walk/access to the lake was interesting.

This place is an absolute dump. I am actually pissed that I booked here and that my money was taken without being told of all the construction works and facilities out of order. Thank you so much.. Sat here at 9am and can’t even have a piece of toast because the power has been cut for these people to do their work. Worst camp site I stayed in NZ by a country mile. Lovely campground, stayed for a few weeks and booked one of their awesome enclosed areas so Victoria could roam free. Staff and residents are super friendly, so if you plan to take your dog just on a quick walk through the park, still put on a jacket, as if you bump into someone, it will turn into a hour long conversation haha The campsite is spotless and you can see they manage it really well to let the grass heal between allocating guests to spots. Something they do that warmed my heart was that they close their heated pool to guests during certain hours so the local community kids can use it to learn how to swim! How cool is that!

All 5 Star for this Holiday Park, so glad we researched it first on Google review as a few other had not so flash comments. The heated pool has a massive sliding roof so yes it’s basically indoor. Our favourite word CLEAN, it’s clean clean so nice. Motorhome sites have a concrete paver sort of thing so helps for water and in winter that’s also very nice. The amenities are awesome and heated lol, hot water is endless we all know what that means in winter so good. Staff are lovely and very accommodating. Camp kitchen is one of the best we have had apart from Hotwater Beach. Common area for kids is heated with a big TV. They also have 2 BBQ on the outside of the Kitchen and a pizza oven. Laundry is good, machines are getting old however got the job done really well (old but good maybe) Takes about 15min to town centre which is a nice drive and we found nicer to be out of town a little, it’s right near the airport. The luge rides and gondola rides took us 22min drive in a motorhome so not far to get around at all. We were doing 2 night here to reset and ended up doing 3 nights. A very comfortable place to do a big clean and rest. Wifi is free and endless as well.

The Rotorua Lakefront Boardwalk is a newly revamped and popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The paved pathway, opened in July 2021, offers an easy stroll along the sparkling waters of the lake with picturesque views of Mokoia Island. The surrounding mountains add to the mesmerizing effect of the area. Visitors can enjoy multiple sitting options, playground equipment for children, and designated areas for rest and relaxation all within walking distance from the city center.
I hadn’t been back to the waterfront since these renovations, and I was very impressed. I am always in two minds whether to touch nature for it to be appreciated or let it be, but I feel whoever was involved in this design and execution has really nailed it. It seems to compliment and intertwine with the lake, as opposed the previous set up which felt like something had been recklessly placed on it. It’s evoking and curious, and really invites you to be present in the lakes presence. With a little bit of luck, the design to capture and enjoy natures beauty will be respected and stay clean. The appeal to stop and enjoy the lake for a moment each time just became mandatory, as opposed to a ‘take it or leave it’. That’s a win. 💎🔮🪄🦢🛶🌊

Very nice walk on the Rotorua Lakefront. Views are very good with a good many domestic geese, Canada goose and Black swans roaming/swimming around. You can also spot Australian Swamphen. Children's play area and park nearby. There is also some sculptures and a Maori boat exhibit. Must visit spot in Rotorua.

I haven't been to Rotorua in a while and the lakefront surprised me. It's a great place to take the kids. Huge playground, great walkways, and amazing sunset. Great place to take pictures. Or you can just sit on the benches and admire nature.
Doan I — Google review
It’s a nice walk alongside the lakes edge and the boardwalk is a really nice area to stroll along. If you are lucky you might spot some of the resident black swans and other wildlife.

I beautiful walk! My daughter and I grabbed some ice cream from Eat Street and walked down to the Lakefront Boardwalk. It was a beautiful walk. The whole waterfront area looked well maintained; clean and beautiful landscape. Seemed like a wonderful place to spend the day with family or even a peaceful time by yourself.

This boardwalk is a new feature installed on the Rotorua Lake front. The walk is itself scenic and beautiful due to the lake surroundings. The boardwalk is lit on the sides which makes it interesting and eye catching in the twilight hours and night time. The location is easily accessible and one can easily spend good amount of time here and in the nearby park with kids. It is well maintained by the local authorities. Well recommended for a lazy stroll after a day out in Rotorua activities.

It is really beautiful in the sunrise… so many activities to do. Either you fly in a plane or a helicopter, here is the best place for that.
Lakshitha W — Google review
This was a beautiful little stroll. At a leisurely pace it may take 30 minutes to explore the length of the boardwalk. Offer happy children playing on the playground and lapping water as music to a peaceful conversation. You see duck's, black swans, Huka carvings, gardens, and the lake. There is lots of parking, public restrooms and water.

Was supper excited to try this out. We bought out tickets weeks in advance. When we got to the place we were the only two customers and the place had plenty of staff around but everyone "too busy" to operate the Shweeb machine...we felt really awkward because there was no other customers around and there was a debate of who should operate the Shweeb. Once we finally had our ride we went to check our video that was take of us while on the ride. We were disappointed to see the video came out all blurry and the camera on my Shweeb stopped working apparently, so i had no video of me. We bought the video of my partner and there was no discount on the price of the video package since i didn't get my video. The GoPro looks like it super old and the resolution is terrible! The staff looked like they didn't want to be there and they were very unhelpful. For the price of this ride i don't thinks it's worth it.

Rainbow Springs Nature Park, established in 1932, is a popular destination in New Zealand for encountering native wildlife, particularly the iconic kiwi bird. The park is dedicated to conservation efforts and offers interactive experiences such as the Kiwi Encounter shows and a live kiwi foraging exhibit. Visitors can also enjoy attractions like the Big Splash rides and a dynamic Bird Show featuring exotic species.
What a wonderful adventure. We arrived early to beat the tour buses & crowds. It was so worth it. Got to walk the park at our leisure & see the exhibits without the crowds was a treat. Got see the birds getting fed & the Kiwi exhibit was fantastic. ❤️ Fed the fish & the ducks. If you can, arrive early for the best experience. Let’s you see the critters without fighting for a view. Feeding time is a treat. Staff are VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE & friendly. I learned so much. The exhibits & enclosures are well described & presented. Park is easy to navigate. Parking is no problem. I’m going back again in 2019. We also hit the mountain & did the. Luge & it was a blast.

I loved the park because of its variety of display. You can see different animals with little descriptions about them. Water splash is very entertaining for adults and kids. And my favorite, I got a chance to see Kiwi birds. Wasn't so happy that, I admit it was my mistake, to accept the offer of seeing the park myself, by the cashier lady, rather than having a guide . Few spots were closed for public and that was also not mentioned when purchasing ticket.
Maja P — Google review
Definitely recommend going on the free guided tour if its your first time as you learn so much and is quite interesting. They have play areas and interactive learning spots located throughout to keep the kids busy on the way through. The big splash ride was cool but all the speakers throughout no longer worked which was very disappointing. The cafe was average tidy and nicely decorated but bathrooms were not cleaned often enough and the food was overpriced and just okay. They offer free shows through out the days which are quite interesting and fun for the kids.
A T — Google review
This place is lush, a little paradise with tones of things for a family to see and do. I added on the hatchery tour and was not disappointed, we got to see two eggs ready to hatch, one had its little beak poking back and forth out of a small opening that it hd already made. This can take up to 5 days to fully hatch. Then we went through another room and they had a baby kiwi, held by one of the staff behind the glass, with another keeper feeding him meat. The most adorable thing ever. We then went through the enclosure to the darker area where there were three separated adult kiwis, moving about searching for insects. Fantastic. I then proceded to walk around to see the birds and eptile areas, it was a good display and the animals did not dissapoint. They have a cafe and gift shop and also very modern and clean looking toilets which is always a pleasent treat.
Carol A — Google review
Awesome wildlife park in Rotorua with some unique features. The walk through the redwoods, aviaries and trout pools is the same as it ever was. They have added 'playscapes' along the way which is great to keep kids busy with physical activities and hands-on games. There's also an area with various water experiments to keep little minds busy. The jewel in the crown is, of course, the kiwi house where you can learn about the national bird and eventually (hopefully) see some for real in the nocturnal house. Beyond this there is a playground (currently undergoing refurbishment but still a small area to play in) and the 'Big Splash' ride by the cafe which is doesn't cost any extra but is looking a bit tired - the drop at the end is still a thrill tho.
Benjamin M — Google review
Fun for the whole family. Some cheeky wee birds and relaxed reptiles. The waterfall makes for great photos. We managed to get a glimpse of the kiwi too.
Ali M — Google review
A really lovely animal park, with an unmissable tour of the kiwi hatching centre. The information signs for each animal were much more fun and engaging than your typical animal park/zoo, which was good. We also enjoyed the (short but sweet) bird show and the log flume ride very much too. You'd be hard pushed to spend more than 3 hours here, but in that time there is plenty to keep you occupied! If my review and photos were helpful to you, please give me a thumbs up 👍🏼 Thanks!
Sam S — Google review
Beautiful small scale nature park. Great way to kill a few hours touring NZ. The kiwi encounter was very informative, however make note that you are not permitted to take photos or record video in the hatchery. If you are hoping to get a photo of the iconic bird live, you will not be able to. The additional cost you pay for this tour supports the program and sustainablity of the brown kiwi population.

From start to finish, the thrill of the rides and attractions kept us engaged, and the energy of the place was just incredible. What truly sets Velocity Valley apart is the amazing staff—friendly, cooperative, and always willing to help. Their positive attitude made our visit even more enjoyable. They go above and beyond to ensure guests feel comfortable and have a great time. 10 stars just for them! This was our second visit (our first was six years ago), and we can confidently say that Velocity Valley never disappoints. We’ll definitely be back again soon for more adrenaline-packed fun. Great staff, unique and fun experiences in an exceptionally beautiful setting. Visited Velocity Valley to try the Shweeb for the novelty. It was more of a race setup than scenic ride through trees but still a lot of fun. Also did the Freefall Xtreme which was awesome. Very helpful staff and a really awesome setting, as the enclosure is clear and above everything with great views of the surrounding valley. Staff was also awesome - so friendly and welcoming, and even recommended a few place to eat and visit locally. Highly recommend, and well worth the price. There's a roll and ride package if you're wanting to do the Zorb as well, which is a pretty good deal.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the lakefront or engage in activities like scooter or bike riding on designated paths. The playground also provides amenities such as picnic tables and benches for relaxation.
Thus was the best playground of four we explored in New Zealand. The equipment was interesting and for a span of age levels. Lots of space between equipment to run around. And of course, a beautiful boardwalk for the parents who want a pleasant conversation.

The Lakefront Playground in New Zealand is hands down the best playground we have ever experienced. The playground boasts modern and well-maintained equipment that is in pristine condition. It is evident that great care is taken to ensure everything is in top shape for children to enjoy. But what truly sets this playground apart is its breathtaking view of the lake. The scenery is simply awe-inspiring. Imagine playing on the swings or climbing structures while being treated to a picturesque backdrop of the lake. The sight of swans gracefully gliding across the water, helicopters soaring above, and boats cruising in the background adds an extra touch of magic to the whole experience. The combination of the fantastic playground equipment and the mesmerizing view creates a truly memorable and immersive playtime. It's a place where children can let their imaginations run wild while being surrounded by the beauty of nature. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this playground is an absolute must-visit. It will undoubtedly leave you with lasting memories of fun-filled adventures and the stunning scenery of the lake.

For people who love to do adventure as well some 4x4 sports this is the right place for them we did a self drive buggy for 1 hour and it was really fun. Which takes you to the top of the mountain and into the forest. My car was making loud noise and the smell of rubber from the engine from start to end which was a little bit disappointing for me as I was expecting a nice 4x4 ride after paying that much money. Other than that it was really good.

We are a family of 3. Our 9 year old daughter did the airsoft shooting and archery, it was great fun. The staff were so cool, they gave her a few extra free rounds on the archery which was so nice. My husband and I did the 40 rounds each of the clay bird shooting and it was so fun! We actually came back a second day in a row as we had that much fun! Blue Baths is a historic geothermal attraction in Rotorua, known for its natural hot springs and geysers. The building dates back to 1933 and has been restored to maintain its original feel. Visitors can enjoy the warm main pool and two side pools for relaxation. It's a family-friendly destination with clean facilities and friendly staff.
This is just an amazing place to go and brilliant for a family with children of any ages. The building is from 1933 and has been restored but retains a completely original feel with many of the fittings remaining as they were The main pool is the warmest I have ever swim in and there are two side pools that are very hot and amazingly relaxing. We visited in winter and there was not another person there (twice in two days). This is a hidden gem in Rotorua and a lovely place to soak in on a winters day regardless of weather.

This was a tour we went on and unfortunately we were disappointed. I feel that it could have been so much more interesting & a better experience had there been a short presentation/information session about it's history, why they had chosen the memorabilia that was there & photo's of it in it's hey day whilst having the devonshire tea. The gardens out front were beautiful however the building next to it was being refurbished so we were unable to walk around that but did take a few photos.

My husband and I booked this place for our wedding reception. The building is so beautiful, and it took our breath away once we saw inside. That's where it ended. Communication was very slack, resulting in things not going according to plan on the day. We received 3 incorrect invoices. The service was horrible (guests comments). The food we had paid for was taken away before everyone was able to eat. Upon the return of our decorations etc our white wishing well was smeared with black marks, leading us to wonder if we received all that was put in it (staff were the only ones to "move" this on the night!), also had a candle holder broken, and our wedding cake was never returned to us.. Amongst all the haze it was too late to pick up after querying this, was told it was on a list and not sure how staff "forgot" to get it out of the chiller. Rather than having our guests comment on our beautiful day, most of the comments were about how disgusted they were with the service after all we had paid for! Upon complaining about these things I was told we received free upgrades for their decorations (that NO ONE ASKED FOR!) and simply that they will replace the broken candle holder. That was all we got for them practically ruining our special day! Also recently back to the incorrect invoices, we recently received an email saying we had not paid for the hire of the band rotunda our ceremony was held in, despite the multiple emails of not only me asking them to check what has been paid for, but them also saying that this had been paid.... Luckily my husband and I focus on the fact that we are married and that is all we wanted. I suggest if you want a magical evening on your first night as a married couple DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!

If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure, consider the offerings from Volcanic Air. They provide a unique way to experience the stunning Tarawera Trail through their floatplane Adventure tour. This journey begins with a vehicle transfer from Rotorua's lakefront to the trailhead, followed by an exhilarating floatplane pickup at Hot Water Beach.
We had breathtaking flight to the volcano today. Tracey is a great, experienced pilot! She flew very safely and showed us the beauty of this landscape and of course this impressive volcano and explained a lot. We are very excited about the experience! The organization worked out excellently, the communication was friendly and professional. Thank you very much! We can only recommend the provider and the whole trip!

True professionals— we felt very comfortable with Captain Tracy at the helm, and everyone at Volcanic Air is friendly, responsive and welcoming. Our Tarawera landing & flight was stunning. My only complaint is that, while the helicopter is certified to carry 6 adults + pilot, it’s too cramped at full capacity and made it hard to fully enjoy the experience.
Lindsy C — Google review
Total professional operation and an equally impressive trip with our pilot Steve. He was informative, witty and a pleasure to be with. The aerial views were amazing, and the geothermal park we went to was so worth visiting. This isn’t a cheap experience, but l consider it to be worth every dollar
Pauline K — Google review
This experience was nothing short of a sensational adventure. From the ‘airport’ on a pontoon on the lake in central Rotorua where we saw first a helicopter then our plane and another come in to land on the lake, moor and get refueled (fuel filler cap top of wing, kerosene from a pump on the pontoon). All happening just feet away. To the plane - an agile six seater Cessna 206 floatplane, which required some contortions to get seated in. But mainly, thanks to our pilot, Ben, 24 years old I think and what a splendid, cheerful, informative, confident and competent chap he is. And he needs to be - we banked and turned over extinct volcanoes and bright coloured volcanic lakes to, 40 minutes later, land on a river where we visited a spectacular geothermal feature and had lunch on the decking of a very nice cafe overlooking the river before flying back. Every minute memorable. It’s expensive but so well worth it.

What a wonderful experience! If you are on the fence about this I would highly recommend. We did the Mt. We loved this place! Great campsite for campers looking to reset after a few days off-grid. Staff were super helpful and friendly, loved to borrow the kayak for free to go down the stream, and quiet location… showers and toilets had some bugs around them but that’s what happens with semi-outdoor facilities (they were inside a building but door was always open).

A lovely place with lovely staff! The team cares good and are so helpfully- we are very thankful! The equipment is not brand new but in ok condition. The river directly in the back of the area was great with nice fishes and more. Also the best price for this area. Washing machine and dryer are also cheap and works good. The little playground our kids like very much. Big thank you and hopefully we see you again 🙏

We stayed in a cabin. The property is well maintained. The owner and the staff are very polite and helpful. The location is very convenient. It is a beautiful property and we got to kayak (free use for guest) on the stream. Value for money! We will visit again!!

Greate place to stay. Highly recommended. The hoster Andy was supper flexible and assisted us even with a late booking. The price is great and the location is great. Lots of things to do there and around. Free Kayak on the lake, swimming pool, tennis table, pool table, piano 🤩 We even extended our staying there.

Great place to camp at, cheap and affordable. Really good and clean facilities. Kitchen is fantastic, user friendly and tidy. Not really that far from city center. They are pet friendly too, which is great for travelling people travelling with K9's. Made good use of kayaks that were available. But the life jackets need to be replaced, they are outdated and do not fit properly. Some have missing clips and broken foam pads so would be useless in keeping someone afloat. I made do and enjoyed it anyway. Definately be back when travelling through again.

We booked here for a quiet Easter weekend with our two little dogs after a hectic time. We really enjoyed the peace & quiet, the grounds are beautifully kept, the manager is friendly & keen to share details on local amenities as well as accommodation facilities. Bathrooms & kitchen are clean & walking tracks to the lake for the dogs are a bonus. The place was full but everyone was respectful, a reflection of the manager's care & attention to his guests.

Cheap Accommodation @$60 for the night, a little down on the Aesthetics of the buildings and area but has shared facilities like toilets and Kitchen. Rooms have no toilets or bathroom facilities but a small kitchen with microwave and fridge, heater, Kitchen utensils and a bed with linen and couple blankets, unfortunately my fridge was not working. This accommodation was good when needed to find a bed for the night.
Jean S — Google review
We parked our camper here overnight and it was a lovely place. Friendly staff. We had a spot right beside the stream which was great (though the mosquitos were out at night). The amenities were nice and clean (bathroom and shower). Didn't use the kitchen or common room. We were given some complimentary WiFi passes which was great to back up our holiday photos. In the morning we were visited by a group of friendly ducks looking for a snack, very cute.

The park is beautifully shaded by magnificent trees, providing a cool retreat on sunny days. The playground recently was upgraded and it's great! It has a (road) bike track around the playground which has signs and pedestrian crossings. It's got play equipment to suit different ages. Large boulders and logs to climb on.

Cute balance bike path with a traffic light and pedestrian. Great shade thanks to the lovely big trees. If only it had more picnic tables or benches and a dustbin

Wright Park is a hidden gem nestled off Titokorangi Drive, conveniently located across from The Redwoods. This serene urban oasis offers a unique experience for both dogs and their owners, as it serves as an off-lead exercise area made available by Scion. With its natural landscape left uncultivated, visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings while exploring various trails.
My son loved the tranquility and the hill to climb up.

Waimangu Volcanic Valley is an unspoiled and protected destination that boasts the world's largest hot spring, set in lush natural surroundings. This diverse adventure takes you through contrasting landscapes, from magnificent coasts and beaches to sprawling farmlands and geothermal wonders. The journey includes hikes through volcanic terrain, spiritual walks in lush forests with large kauri trees, and treks across active volcano zones.
Amazing experience, beautiful walk through an amazing array of geothermal features. The whole walk is very well signposted, the track well maintained and you can tailor the walk to your level of fitness and ability using their bus. Definitely include the boat trip if you can. You are taken across the lake and see several places impossible to get to on foot. Plus the commentary given is tremendously informative
Enzedgasman — Google review
A must-see experience! A beautiful walk through nature’s wonders — from emerald green to sky-blue pools, steaming geysers, and bubbling hot water you can actually feel beside the path. The smell of sulfur is strong, but it’s all part of the incredible experience. Absolutely worth it!
Elaine L — Google review
Lucky for beautiful spring weather and early morning small crowd. Lovely moderate hike down to the boat dock with multiple documented view points of the steaming vents and springs in the valley along the way. Peaceful yet awesome views of what the 1883 eruptions did to the original valley and lakes and the vegetation that repopulated the valley. Ryan gave us a great commentary and boat viewing tour of the crater lake and its steaming vents - a must do to add to the hike. Bus options for those not up to the full hike.
Gary — Google review
It was an absolutely amazing experience. The walk with multiple viewing points and their relevance and history was brilliant to learn. The boat ride was so informative and a delightful experience. Staff were supportive, informative, and helpful.
Neha N — Google review
Fascinating and beautiful. Well organised. Great staff. Do all 3 walks (only about a relatively easy 3.6k) and the boat trip to complete the experience with a close up view of a geyser in action. A fabulous half day. Don't miss it.

A geothermal wonderland! Witness stunningly vibrant hot springs, bubbling mud pools, and the impressive Inferno Crater. The self-guided paid walk offering varying levels of challenge, showcasing unique volcanic formations and native bush. Allow ample time to explore and be prepared for the otherworldly beauty! Highly recommended for a memorable Rotorua experience.

The lake cruise is so worth it! Absolutely stunning being out on the water. The walk to the lake was also amazing - stunning landscapes and scenery all throughout.

It is now Springtime in Waimangu Volcanic Valley. Beautiful is an understatement. If any, or all or the following appeal, then please make your way to Waimangu Volcanic Valley - poste haste !! You will not be disappointed. if you are, then I need to take you there for a 1-on-1. Vibrant colored lush fern grottos, fern glades and fern embankments, lush super-green native bush, patches of flowering manuka bushes and trees (famous for producing the wellbeing NZ Manuka honey), sunny skies and fresh "mostly" sweet smelling air, birdlife aplenty including both native and introduced species - cute cygnets, ducklings, grazing native pukeko, tui, black swans, fantails, waterfowl, ducks, etc, etc. And then there's the bountiful geothermal features - steaming lakes, superheat hot pools (ie, Iodine Springs), bubbling fumaroles, mini geysers, super heat tolerant algal mats, sinter deposits, etc, etc.. Now is the perfect time to visit the valley. Walk as much of the very well defined track/walkway as possible. To Bus Stop #1 is good, to Bus Stop #2 is better, but go full out and walk the complete track down to the boat moored at the margin of Lake Rotomahana and Bus Stop #3 - that's the best!! And you can take the hourly shuttle bus from the lake margin/ferry dock, back to the starting point/reception building. I'm a man in his 70's of average fitness level - if I can do it, you can do it. If the natural colors of "mother earth" work for you then expect to see a kaleidoscope of bright earthy browns and reds, yellows and orange, whites and vibrant greens. Everywhere is green. It's so beautiful. It's perfect and a privilege to be able to go there.. The bush is green and lush, the air is fresh and clean (oxygenate your lungs in the native bush, perfect) , the air is steamy to very steamy in places, the tracks are well kept and the signage informative. Enjoy and appreciate. WVV will never disappoint......Stuart in Tauranga

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre, located just outside Rotorua township, is a haven for New Zealand birds of prey such as the karearea (New Zealand falcon), kahu (Australasian harrier), ruru (morepork), and Australian barn owl. Visitors can witness these magnificent birds in action during flying displays and even have the chance to hold them.
Had heard great things and finally got to visit Wingspan on 23.03.25. What an absolutely incredible experience. All the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly, the birds just amazing. We were blessed to have an off script experience with a juvenile female Karearea repeatedly interrupting the show. Had the whole audience on the edge of our seats. The staffs professionalism even during this challenge was amazing and their passion for the species was evident by their response. Great bang for your buck. Also couldn't help buying from the gift shop. Would highly recommend for any nature lover.
Christina A — Google review
Passionate people caring for magnificent birds! Thank you. We felt very fortunate to witness the agility and skill of these birds, up very close and personal. A fab day out for any age. I wish you all the best and would highly recommend Wingspan in Rotorua.

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Birds of Prey show on September 19th! The team working here are very knowledgeable and passionate, and they let you see their birds up close! Supporting Wingspan supports birds of Prey native to NZ. I highly recommend coming by if you're in the area.
Halee J — Google review
I visited wingspan upon referral by the Mountagatori (mountain sanctuary) staff. This was excellent, watching a falconry show, seeing the education, research, rehabilitation done there for birds of prey. They have a great aviary that housed endemic Morepork, and falcon, along with some non invasive self introduced birds. Some of which demonstrated there great hunting skills
Adrien C — Google review
Hands down the best experience I have had! As a Kiwi, this was an incredibly spiritual experience. To be in the presence of the karearea was an honour; to have such an up close, personal encounter is unheard off. My 8YO nephew proclaimed it was "better than the jet boat ride!" The team were incredible and I 10/10 recommend this experience!
Alana F — Google review
We loved the opportunity to learn about the NZ Falcon. What an amazing job you all do and the meet and greet up close with the Falcon is not to be missed. All proceeds go to the conservation of the magical birds so please go. Arrive early to sit in the front middle for best spot!
Fran G — Google review
Today, we visited Wingspan after someone working at Sanctuary Mountain (a beautiful ecological preserve and trust I will also review in a minute!) recommended it to us. The people who run this place LOVE the work they do and the creatures they do it for. It is hard to find if you aren't searching for it, and that's probably good for the birds, but not for business! They have a beautiful aviary where we were able to see an unreleasable morepork owl. We had only heard them at night. Two incredibly talented falconers showed off the skills of their birds for the audience while educating us about why conservation is so important and how their efforts help these animals. Highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in birds of prey and conservation.
Alison B — Google review
If you are looking for an educational experience and to do some good for bird of prey conservation, I can't recommend Wingspan enough! The behind the scenes meet and greet is stunning and well worth it! The birds are gorgeous and the staff knowledgeable and sincere in their compassion for these awesome animals.

Lake Okareka Reserve and Walkway, located about 9 kilometers from Rotorua, offers a delightful stroll along the shores of Lake Okareka. The well-maintained 2.5 km walk features a birdwatching hide and showcases native plants, farmland, beach, lake, and wetland scenery. It is an easy walk suitable for all ages with picnic areas and seats offering great views of the surroundings.
Beautiful spot, more signage would be good as the track now goes right round to the free Doc motorcamp at the start of Acacia Rd ending end of Millar Rd Lake Okareka Rotorua but you can cut short turning around at the bridge returning on the same track you came in from Acacia Rd. Beautiful beach towards bridge and loads of bird life with viewing huts.

a beautiful walk around the lake, peaceful, gentle easy going, home to bush, birds, stunning vistas. Loved the hut lookout through which one can sit to watch the birds incognito. Just wish there was more seating for disabled walkers

A must do walk if you are in the Rotorua area. It most is accessable for wheelchairs. There are boardwalks and birdwatching hides. The history of the lake is posted on signs to read and dpot wildlife.

A beautiful, well kept and serene reserve with looks of birdlife to see! Loved walking on boardwalks through this reserve. A lot of locals come here so expect some traffic. Also local fishing competitions happen here. Lovely experience!
