Nature & Parks
Auckland Domain is a popular city park that features museums, memorials, and the remnants of Pukekawa volcano. It's an ideal escape for those in Central Auckland, offering a serene retreat amidst the bustling urban environment. The park boasts tree-lined paths, water features, and peaceful flower beds. Visitors can enjoy activities like visiting the museum, exploring the Winter Gardens, or simply strolling through the tranquil surroundings.
I found the museum to be exceptionally beautiful and majestic. We enjoyed a delightful meal of fish and chips with ice-cold beer. The grounds were breathtaking, and while the building's multi-level design presented a slight navigational challenge, this added to the overall experience of discovery. I highly recommend a visit.

Went to the winter garden through Lover’s track. Best to see when it’s summer so that you can find more vibrant flowers. You could visit the museum too, it costs $32 for intl visitor
Rambu M — Google review
Hill top locations cannot be beaten for an early morning visit with the world still asleep. What an amazing park for young and old and sights to explore here in Auckland. Play cricket, kick a ball, picnic with friends and family and enjoy the views. Or get a taste of culture inside the museum and stop for a moment of reflection and remember what this place is meant to keep us aware of. Abd yes, it’s not the Louvre, but the views and the available parking to enjoy the Domain are definitely in favour of this place. Though don’t come by car in the high season, parking can get tricky then.

Went for Anzac Celebration. Very nice and solemn place. Beautiful building with the great view of the Auckland harbor. I recommend to visit the memorial and museum

City park
Albert Park, located in the heart of Auckland, is a historically significant green space adorned with lush trees, vibrant flowerbeds, and a striking Victorian fountain. The park also features an array of statues and small attractions such as Albert Park House, which houses an eclectic collection of ceramics and clocks. Visitors can also admire the floral clock at the park's entrance and explore the city's Meteorological Observatory.
We visited very early on a Sunday morning when everything and everyone was still and peaceful. Beautiful gardens and stairways with manicured lawns. Plenty of bench seats to sit on as you take in the surrounding city scenery. A very scenic spot to enjoy the serenity
SARGES’ F — Google review
Beautiful park near AUT campus - in Auckland CBD. Locals completing their morning yoga practice, benches occupied by some couples and families and the fountain happily splashing away while students make their way through to get to town or other places on campus. Very well maintained, dotted with several statues nodding to significant people in New Zealand's history. Weather will play a part in your experience of this park- plan accordingly. Smiles all the way!
B. G — Google review
So beautiful park to walk, spend the afternoon, read, or take a look of the city. It has several historical monuments along the path. A nice fountain and it’s always clean. Its amazing gardens are full of flowers and green grass. In the background, you can see the Auckland buildings or the university on the other side. Wherever you sit, you’ll have a beautiful and different view. The bandstand is another highlight, and also the old trees. So many birds also. Highly recommended to walk around and enjoy its peace and freshness.
Fran F — Google review
It's a lovely park with plenty of space to walk and take a break from the busy surrounding streets. There are many trees and flowers that make for a relaxing atmosphere and make the cityscape more beautiful. It's worth noting that the entrances to this park from Queens Street are very steep. Overall, it's a lovely location.

An oasis on peace and quietness. Went there on a full on day tip to Auckland and since i had a book i stopped to read for a while. Ended up seeing so many cute couples and people just chilling, reading and relaxing and ended up doing some friends with travellers that were around.

A beautiful and spacious park in Auckland. A lovely place to relax. The park is located opposite the University of Auckland. I love the presence of ancient trees.

Best for hanging out between class schedule, many statues and a fountain in the centre. You can also see sky tower clearly from some spots.

Nature & Parks
Cornwall Park is a beloved 425-acre green space in central Auckland, offering a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle. It is a popular spot for runners, bikers, and picnickers, with its verdant gardens often chosen for marriage proposals and engagement photoshoots. The park features meandering paths through trees, open grassy areas, daffodil-lined roadsides, and a volcanic cone to explore.
A beautiful and spacious park in Auckland, perfect for walking, running, or simply relaxing. The park is well-maintained, with large old trees providing plenty of shade. What makes it unique is the presence of free-roaming cows and sheep, creating a natural and peaceful atmosphere. It’s also popular with locals after work hours, so you’ll see many people exercising or enjoying time outdoors. A great spot to experience how Auckland balances city life with nature.
Vũ H — Google review
Cornwall Park is truly one of Auckland’s gems! The park is beautifully maintained with wide open fields, majestic trees, and peaceful walking paths that make it perfect for a stroll, jog, or picnic. The mix of native and exotic trees creates a stunning landscape all year round, especially in spring when the blossoms are in full bloom. What makes this park special is its combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage — from the grazing sheep and cattle to the historic sites and the One Tree Hill monument. There’s always something to discover, whether it’s enjoying the scenic views, exploring the gardens, or simply relaxing under a tree. Facilities are excellent too: plenty of parking, clean toilets, a great playground for kids, and the Cornwall Park Café, which serves delicious food and coffee. It’s a perfect spot for families, fitness lovers, photographers, or anyone who just wants to enjoy nature in the heart of the city. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!
Tony Y — Google review
Cornwall Park • Cornwall Park is a large park (about 172 hectares / 425 acres) in Epsom, Auckland. • It’s open to the public and managed by the Cornwall Park Trust. • The park surrounds Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, which has a volcanic cone and is historically and culturally significant. • It was gifted to New Zealand by Sir John Logan Campbell in 1901, with the vision that it be free and accessible for everyone. ⸻ Main Attractions & Things to See Here are some highlights you might enjoy: • One Tree Hill / Maungakiekie — climb up for views overlooking Auckland. The obelisk at the summit marks Sir John Logan Campbell’s burial site. • Working Farm — you’ll find sheep and cattle grazing. There are more animals during lambing/calving season. • Heritage Buildings — Acacia Cottage (from 1841), Huia Lodge Discovery Hub, etc., which give a sense of history and architecture. • Trails & Tree Walks — many paths and drives, including “Tree Trail” where you can discover a variety of trees, gardens, and shaded walkways. • Gardens & Views — flower beds, specimen trees, landscaped gardens, and great views especially looking over the park and out towards city/harbour. • Picnics & BBQs — spots available for gatherings; free BBQs (gas and wood) with guidelines. ⸻ Facilities & Visitor Info • Opening hours: Gates are open from 7:00 AM to dusk daily. • Visitor & Information Centre: Huia Lodge Discovery Hub is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (except some holidays). • Food / Cafés: There are three eateries on-site: Cornwall Park Bistro, Cornwall Park Cafe, and The Creamery. • Access & Entrances: • Main entrances include Green Lane West, Kenneth Myers Gate off Manukau Road, plus other pedestrian entrances. • Vehicle access: some roads allow cars but there are restrictions (one-way, etc.) to protect tranquility. • Rules & Etiquette: • Dogs must be leashed at all times. During lambing/calving season, certain areas are off-limits to dogs. • The park is heritage land; certain activities such as commercial tours or events may need permission. ⸻ How to Get There • Location: Epsom / One Tree Hill area, not far from central Auckland. • By car: Using Green Lane West is common; Kenneth Myers Gate is another vehicle access point. • Public transport: There are several local buses that service nearby roads. Walking into the park from entrances works nicely.

It is a big and beautiful place to walk, relax, and enjoy nature. There are lots of trees, open fields, and animals like sheep. You can walk up to One Tree Hill for a great view of Auckland. It’s a peaceful spot for a picnic or a nice day out.
Nesh K — Google review
Cornwall Park is a beautiful place to enjoy the cherry blossoms, especially in spring when the trees are in full bloom. The pink flowers create a stunning view that makes the whole park feel peaceful and cheerful. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing walk, taking photos, or simply sitting under the trees to enjoy the moment. The open spaces, fresh air, and well-kept surroundings make it one of the best places in Auckland to experience the beauty of nature.
Benedict H — Google review
Cornwall Park looks absolutely stunning during cherry blossom season! The trees are full of delicate pink blooms, and it’s such a peaceful, scenic place to walk around or take photos. However, it can get very crowded on weekends with lots of people doing photoshoots. I’d suggest visiting on a weekday or early morning if you want a quieter experience and better photos. Definitely worth the visit!
Saadia S — Google review
Auckland’s unique working farm city park open to all and gifted to the people by a true visionary. Thank you Sir John Logan Campbell! Gifting 230 acres in 1901 was no small thing and today we get to enjoy it. A park estate like somewhere in England, amazing trees, Kauri mini forest, stainless steel BBQ areas with bins and toilets close to parking. Amazing cottage and bistro buildings plus walkways everywhere. Go and treat yourself and come for the soo pop ring blossom if you can.
Hibiscus H — Google review
A sanctuary in the middle of Auckland, I live close by and able to take daily walks, via a side entrance. A beautiful place with Cherry blossoms in spring, plenty of walks, BBQ and lots of picnic spots. Lots of space so even when's its busy, it never feels crowded The Visionary and founder of Cornwall Park - Sir John Campbell gifted to NZ in 1901 along with lands to fund the upkeep. Monuments can be found around the park and are a beautiful testament, with lots of information on a man that respected the land and the History of the indigenous people of the area

Playground
Myers Park is a charming urban green space located in the city center, offering a modern playground and public artworks. The park features diverse trees such as Puriri and Moreton Bay Fig, creating a tranquil oasis between Karangahape Road and Mayoral Drive. It's an ideal spot for kids to play and run around. Additionally, the park provides easy access from various city locations and offers shady grassy areas for relaxation. Despite being surrounded by tall buildings, it maintains a peaceful atmosphere.
This playground is absolutely ideal for my little one, who is just a toddler. It offers a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate environment that allows young children to explore and play freely. One of the key highlights of this park is its location—it is set well away from busy roads, which gives parents peace of mind and creates a much safer space for children to roam. The park is also very family-friendly, with clean facilities and features that cater to a range of ages. It has quickly become a favorite spot for our family outings, and my toddler especially loves coming here. Among all the playgrounds we’ve visited in Auckland City, this one stands out as a top choice for both fun and safety.
Gina M — Google review
The green space is charming with a small area to actually be in the green space and otherwise large trees flanking both sides of an easy walking path. It has clean public restrooms and a drinking fountain. The playground is okay but I recommend a small toy with wheels to spark imagination. The ground is between old school playground and new "safer" ground. The equipment held my 9 year old attention for about 15 minutes. The cultural display is the gem of Meyers Park experience.
GRAMS — Google review
This park is mostly for families, children, and dog owners. There is a playground, s kindergarten, open grass space, some statues, and some benches here. The park is nice too walk through from end to end though. The palm trees make you feel a bit smaller.
Leonard — Google review
easy to access from CBD nice skytower n palm tree views water station & toilets equipped good to take a rest
Kerry H — Google review
Perfect park for the little one to get some wiggles out. Almost four year old loved the opportunity for open ended game development. Lots of obstacle course options, tons of running space, and play equipment for about every age. Highlights for her were the big swing and awesome hide and seek spaces.
Y. H — Google review
Very beautiful and attractive park Location: 72 Greys Avenue, Auckland Central, 1010 • It’s a narrow/gully-style park running roughly parallel to Queen Street, linking Queen Street, Greys Avenue, Karangahape Road, Aotea Square, etc. ⸻ History • The land was once part of a gully area with quite poor housing / slum conditions by the late 1800s. • Sir Arthur Myers gifted money (~£9,000) to Auckland City Council around 1913 for purchasing land and creating the park. He also funded the kindergarten & playground. • The park officially opened 28 January 1915. • The Myers Kindergarten building opened in 1916; designed with children in mind. It’s still in use (early childhood education) under the Auckland Kindergarten Association. ⸻ What’s There / Features & Attractions • Playground & Splash Pad: There’s a centrally located playground with creative / whimsical elements: slides, swings, oversized bird/insect sculptures, a giant basket swing, etc. • The splash pad operates from September through May, with daily hours during those months. • Vegetation & Trees: A mix of native and exotic trees. Highlights include Puriri trees, a large Morton Bay Fig, and an avenue of palm trees lining the main pathway. • Art / Installations / Upgrades: • Underpass improvements: new artwork (called Waimahara) inspired by the original Waihorotiu Stream, lighting & sound features, native plantings, better connections (stairs) from Mayoral Drive / Queen Street. • Wetland garden, boardwalk, more native trees have been added as part of recent renovations. • Other features: • The Myers Kindergarten building (historic) still functions as a childcare facility. • The park has many pathways/stairs, benches, shaded spots — good for walks, relaxing. ⸻ Practical Info • Hours: Open 24 hours. • Access: Multiple entrances: Queen Street, Karangahape Road (K’Road), Greys Avenue, Mayoral Drive. • Facilities: • Toilets (accessible ones) • Drinking fountains, seating • The playground & splash pad for children ⸻ Recent Upgrades & Changes • The underpass (northern end close to Queen St) was transformed to be more welcoming — with lighting, art work, better stair access. • Wetland garden & boardwalk added. • Native trees have been increased (part of re-greening / making the park more lush). ⸻ Pros & Things to Watch Out For Pros: • Very central — easy to drop by if you’re in the CBD. • Green space / refuge from busy city noise. • Great for families, kids. Playground is fun & imaginative. • Recent upgrades make certain parts more appealing, especially the underpass art, seating etc. Things to watch out for: • After dark the park can feel less safe in certain spots (as with many urban parks). Lighting improvements help, but being cautious is wise. • Shade over the playground is limited — can be hot summer days.
Malik S — Google review
Growing up, I always heard mixed things about walking through Myers Park — but after the recent updates, it feels completely different. It’s brighter, cleaner, and feels much safer now. Great to see the space being revitalized — it’s actually a really nice spot to stroll through again.
Jack M — Google review
An atmosphere of harmony and beauty reigned all around. Tall trees, covered in lush greenery, sang their gentle song, and rays of sunlight filtered through the foliage, creating intricate patterns on the ground. I walked along winding paths, enjoying the scent of flowers and the singing of birds.

Western Park is a large open space in Auckland with a playground, sports fields, tennis courts, and picnic areas. It's accessible from Beresford, Howe Street and Tahuna Streets, Freemans Bay, and the Ponsonby Road.
I attended the woof rainbow dog show at this park. It was so much fun. The park playground is like a theme park, the view is stunning and has good bathroom facilities.
Jo Y — Google review
Western Park is a large park in the middle of busy Ponsonby area. Being on a downhill slope, It is accessible via Ponsonby road on one end and streets linking to Hepburn Street on one side. There are a lot of walks with some uphill climb given the nature of the terrain. The bottom part of the park features a large kids playground which is very popular with families and kids. Some interesting art installations are maintained on the top end on Ponsonby Road, on this park which makes this a very unique spot for art lovers. We had a great time in the playground area and kids enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommended for half a day's outing.
Raghav A — Google review
Sooo cool! I searched google for ruins in Auckland and this came up. Since I was in the city, I decided to check it out. Situated on the edge of Western Park (Ponsonby Rd side), these sculptures are a perfect way to commemorate old Auckland. Just catch an inner link bus and get off opposite the spca boutique.

Must visit place. Lush green, golden yelllow hue, giant trees, playful furbabies and kids playing around. It was such a nice place to either by yourself or with friends or with your family. Also to mention it’s Pet friendly park.
Sheena G — Google review
An awesome playground awaits, featuring fast-flowing slides and a thrilling flying fox that offers impressive views of the city. While it can get a bit boggy during the winter due to a makeshift lake, it remains a nice spot for kids and adults to play and relax.
Royce — Google review
Took my family there the first time , it is a relatively large park with lots of spaces for kids to run around. Piblic transport is conveniently located on the out skirt of the park. On one end there's 3 giant slides where kids can spend unlimited time of, next to the slide is a flying fox. Public toilet is nearby, plus a few tables for pinic. We happened to visited the place during Easter event and it was packed with people. Highly recommended for a good day out i the weather is great. Do note that you do require slight fitness level to walk up hill on exit.

Cool park, nice walk, heaps of shade. Toilets, water fountain, slides, swings, mini trampolines, flying fox, those ring a round the rosey thingys lol I think that's what it's called and seesaw. Field, court and a good place to walk dogs and alot of benches, picnic tables and seats to chill.

Dove Myer Robinson Park, also known as Parnell Rose Garden, is a delightful recreational area in the charming suburb of Parnell. The park boasts two vibrant rose gardens with over 5,000 roses, including varieties from renowned breeders. It's a perfect spot for picnics and leisurely strolls among the colorful blooms.
Beautiful park with a good variety of roses. The heady fragrance just lifts your mood. What can’t be solved with a bit of fresh air and beautiful roses?
Priya R — Google review
"Stop and Sniff the Roses... 🌹 Then Keep Walking" 🚶‍♂️ Stopped by Dove Myer Robinson Park today also known as the Auckland Rose Garden, but let’s not get boujee about it. 🌹 Plenty of parking, and if the lot’s packed (which is rare unless roses are trending on TikTok), there’s always street parking just a few steps away. The rose section? Small but mighty. Different colours, big blooms, fresh, and actually fragrant not like those fake supermarket roses that smell like plastic sadness. 💐 Sniffed a few, got judged by a bee, moved on. There are a few benches for rose-gazing and deep life thoughts, but not much to see after you’ve done one or two loops. The real bonus? The park connects to Judges Bay with a peaceful walkway you can walk, jog, or cycle your way into a whole different vibe. And if you spot a road on the side? Yep, cars can sneak through too (if you find it). 🚗🛣️ Toilets? Gotta walk down to Judges Bay for that. Bit of a hike just to pee, but hey makes it feel like an adventure. Nice, calm, and perfect if you’re in the mood for sniffing roses and pretending you’re in a peaceful drama series. Just don’t expect a full botanical zoo. "Logan was here… sniffing roses and dodging bees." 🐝🌹

This the west end of the foreshore heritage walk, a 5km pleasant trail. I started from the middle of the trail, point 13 to the east, then back to the west. It took me 3-4 hours in total. It’s an amazing way to learn Auckland

The Dove Myer Robinson Rose Garden is a true hidden gem in the heart of Auckland. It’s peaceful, beautifully maintained, and full of vibrant roses that bloom almost year-round. The scent in spring and summer is incredible — perfect for a quiet stroll, photography, or just sitting under the trees to relax. The view over Judges Bay and the harbour adds a special touch, especially at sunset. There’s plenty of open space for picnics, and it’s only a short walk from Parnell Village and the Parnell Baths. A great spot for nature lovers, couples, and anyone looking for a little calm in the city.
Tony Y — Google review
Missed seeing lots of the roses in bloom as still a little early. Lots of aphids on the buds so they may be a little scratchy. Very difficult to keep them at bay I'm sure. Lovely flowers and special area with a fountain. Good views. I enjoyed it

Just an average Park. It does have a big playground, a cricket pitching and hitting cage, and a skateboard area, but mostly just lots of open grass area. Nice shady trees around the perimeter with walkways.

Gorgeous park in the city and one of my fav spots. Good for small walks or or just sitting around. Good seating options and has a good sized green space for throwing a ball, cricket or soccer. Also has children's and adult playground.

Pretty muddy in the winter - cool place in the central city with an outside basketball court and skateboard park. Also has public restrooms that are in decent condition and available parking nearby. Good for families to get out and about and throw the ball around and pass the time for free

I love this place. There is so much for kids to do. We can even bbq there and just have a day filled with lots of fun. This is a must do. Only bummer with this places is that we got a $60 parking fine. But I suppose we also had to look around and read some of the signs.

My husband and I went to Potters Park for Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival on 29/9/2023. There were lots of people there and we enjoyed our time there. Our Prime Minister Christopher Luxon also attended the event and delivered a fantastic speech there to show his appreciation and admiration to all Chinese who have been working so hard in New Zealand. We are so thankful and grateful for having such a great Prime Minister here in New Zealand.

Beautiful big park and splash pad. Great for the kids. Not much shade but plenty of grass if you have your own. Massive skate park behind it. Public toilets and public bbq available. 1 large gazebo type area if you get in quick. Beautiful beach themed. Volleyball pit with heavy duty net. And nice spongey padding under most of the play areas. Would definitely recommend for an afternoon out with the kids.

Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, a prominent 182m-tall volcanic peak in Auckland, New Zealand, is home to the One Tree Hill Domain and Cornwall Park. The name Maungakiekie means "mountain of the kiekie," referencing an indigenous vine once abundant in the area. The hill's English name comes from a lone Monterey Pine that previously stood at its summit.
Magnificent view at the summit of One Tree Hill On New Year Day 2024 and 5/1/2024, my husband and I went to the summit of One Tree Hill. We enjoyed the stunning views there and took many photos. Apparently, there’s no more tree on top of the hill but two short trees are locked with the steel cage. We highly recommend you to walk up to the summit of One Tree Hill to enjoy the breathtaking taking view.

A must-see for anyone in the area, beautiful landscapes and views of Auckland and the surrounding suburbs. There is a nice little cafe before a gentle uphill walk to the mountaintop where you can experience some of the history that this iconic landmark represents.

Beautiful, easy, peaceful walk to a great vantage point with 360° views of Auckland. The park landscape and the variety of enormous trees are worth seeing in their own right
Scott N — Google review
The scenery here is worth a walk. The parking lot on the mountain is closed, so you can only stop at the foot of the mountain and then walk to the observation deck on the mountain. We have probably walked for 20 minutes. If the weather is good, here is a 360-degree view of Auckland on the bay. Very spectacular, if you are coming to New Zealand for the first time, be sure to check it out.

The place is nice. You can no longer go inside with the car, I was frustrated as I was too tired to walk. I managed to find a nice small parking lot with a nice view of the top. If you are not in for a good walk, don't go there. But, I personally felt the place is highly meditative. Worth visiting.

Another great spot in Auckland for views. It’s a bit of a hike up from the car park but you can call the local council and get a code for car access to the summit if you or a passenger have limited mobility - the number is on a sign at the car park 👍🏻

A very historic place to visit. The view on top is superb with a 360 view of Auckland. Getting up is a bit tricky if you have a car. Better park it at the lower parking level and walk up on top of the hill. It's not at wide on top as I expected but the view is amazing.

As you stroll from Viaduct Harbour over the bridge to Silo Park, you'll encounter an eclectic mix of large-scale artworks that celebrate both contemporary creativity and Maori culture.

Weaving together its history, natural beauty, and cultural significance: Western Springs: A Poetic Tapestry In Auckland's heart, where waters softly glide, A verdant haven, where nature doth reside, Lies Western Springs, a jewel, green and bright, Reflecting skies, a shimmering delight. The Waitākere Ranges, a majestic sight, Stand guard above, a guardian of light, Their slopes descend, embracing the lake's gleam, A tranquil scene, a peaceful, verdant dream. The Niho Taniwha, the dragon's tooth, they say, A sacred site, where legends softly sway, Of Māori lore, and spirits of the land, A mystic touch, a guiding, gentle hand. The Waitākere River, a ribbon of blue, Meanders through, a pathway ever new, From distant hills, it finds its watery way, To nourish life, and gently kiss the day. The lake itself, a mirror calm and deep, Where clouds drift by, and secrets softly sleep, A haven for birds, a sanctuary serene, A symphony of nature's vibrant green. The black swans glide, a graceful, regal sight, Their feathers gleam, a canvas pure and white, While ducks and geese, in playful flocks abound, A lively chorus, a joyful, sweet sound. The Pukekiwiriki, the hill that stands so tall, A vantage point, where nature does enthrall, A panoramic view, a breathtaking sight, Of cityscapes, and waters bathed in light. The rose gardens, a fragrant, sweet delight, A tapestry of blooms, a vibrant, colorful sight, Where butterflies dance, and bees softly hum, A haven of peace, where worries all succumb. The Wintergardens, a greenhouse, warm and bright, A verdant oasis, a captivating sight, With orchids rare, and ferns of emerald green, A symphony of life, a wondrous, vibrant scene. The zoo nearby, a kingdom of its own, Where creatures roam, and stories softly groan, Of tigers fierce, and elephants so grand, A glimpse of wildlife, across the vast land. The people gather, families and friends, To share the joy, the beauty that transcends, The city's bustle, the everyday routine, A moment's peace, a tranquil, peaceful scene. The children laugh, as they explore the ground, Their spirits soar, with freedom all around, The lake their playground, the trees their leafy shade, A childhood memory, forever to be made. The runners glide, along the paths so green, Their footsteps light, a rhythmic, vibrant scene, The air is fresh, the mind begins to clear, As worries fade, and spirits feel sincere. The rowers glide, with oars that softly sweep, Across the lake, their rhythm strong and deep, A symphony of motion, a graceful, flowing art, A moment's peace, a joy that fills the heart. The anglers wait, with patience and with care, For fish to bite, a challenge they will share, The gentle breeze, the ripples on the lake, A moment's peace, for nature's sweet sake. The picnics spread, beneath the willow's shade, Laughter rings out, as stories are conveyed, Of shared experiences, and memories made, A simple pleasure, a moment to be swayed. The sunset paints, the sky with hues of gold, A masterpiece, a story to be told, The lake reflects, the colors bright and bold, A breathtaking scene, a sight to behold. As twilight falls, and stars begin to gleam, The park transforms, into a tranquil dream, The sounds subside, the city fades away, And nature reigns, supreme at close of day. The moon ascends, a silver, watchful eye, Casting its glow, across the peaceful sky, The lake reflects, its shimmering, mystic light, A beacon of hope, in the fading night. Western Springs, a gift, a treasure to behold, A sanctuary, a story to be told, Of nature's beauty, and the human heart, A place to heal, where spirits can depart. From city's clamor, to find a peaceful space, To reconnect, with nature's gentle grace, To breathe the air, and feel the sun's warm ray, And simply be, at the close of day. So let us cherish, this precious, verdant land, A legacy of beauty, forever to withstand, For generations yet to come, to share its grace, And find solace, in this tranquil, peaceful place. Daldy Street Park, a delightful green haven nestled in the heart of Auckland City, is named after one of New Zealand's renowned suffragists. This vibrant park opened just over a year ago and has quickly become a favorite spot for families. Parents can unwind on the lush grass while their children explore the dynamic landscape filled with climbing structures and slides that cater to all ages.
This is only a tiny piece of what Wynyard Quarter Playspace has to offer and you can easily lose a few hours here exploring the different attractions. The 7 metre high silo inspired playground can be found on Daldy Street, Wynyard, Auckland. You can visit the fish market, watch the America’s Cup teams prepare for the upcoming races, enjoy one of the many eateries or explore the various playgrounds, splash parks and interactive play structures. Take scooters or bikes along to explore more of Wynyard or a basketball to shoot some hoops. Currently (October 2020) the whole area is a hive of construction so an added bonus for those children who love things that go, diggers, cranes, trucks and the associated banging and crashing. #DiscoverFun #Playz #Playground

Daldy street parking is more of an Urban space with some kid friendly activities rather than a traditional park with large green areas. The park designer here is truly the worst. It seems like thoughtless designers, driven solely by the desire to appear novel, have designed inefficiently and without consideration for users. Some areas are dangerously steep, posing risks to pedestrians or mobility users, and the narrow gravel pathways in the linear park are impassable, overtaken by plants, and will eventually need renovation at the expense of citizens' budgets. Please, instead of pursuing artistically formed designs, strive for designs that are easily accessible and usable by citizens.

Beautifully constructed station in the heart of the city. Official name: Waitematā Railway Station. It was officially renamed from “Britomart Station” in September 2025. • It’s located in the Auckland CBD (central business district), down by the waterfront, on reclaimed land near Waitematā Harbour. • The station is integrated with a bus interchange and is close to the ferry terminal — making it a major transport hub. ⸻ Structure & Facilities • The station is partly underground; platforms are beneath. The historic Chief Post Office (CPO) building is used as the main entrance. • There are multiple entrances: the main via the CPO, plus an eastern entrance via Takutai Square (Britomart Place). • Access via escalators/stairs/lifts, gates (ticket gates), ticket machines, customer service centre. ⸻ Services & What’s Changing • It currently serves most of Auckland’s suburban train lines (Eastern, Southern, Western lines). • City Rail Link (CRL) project is underway. This will convert Waitematā from a dead-end terminus into a through station with tunnels under Albert Street. That will enable more frequent trains and through services. The CRL is expected to open in 2026. • As part of these works, platform layout is being changed (from 5 to 4 platforms), and the two outer ones will connect to the new tunnels. ⸻ Name & Meaning • The name Waitematā is a gifted name from mana whenua (local Māori authorities). • The name refers to the nearby Waitematā Harbour. It can be interpreted as meaning flat, glassy waters (likened to obsidian “matā”) or to a Māori ancestor who placed a talisman in the harbour.

The Britomart shopping area and Waitemata train station are great places to spend a ton of time right in downtown Auckland. The station is huge, clean, and has clear signage for planning out a trip and figuring out which platform to stand on. At street level are lots of places to grab a bite, shop, or just sit and relax. If you get the opportunity to go during the Saturday market then you should! There are lots of shops, plenty of food (much of which I was unable to find elsewhere), and an overwhelmingly friendly atmosphere. Certainly a great place to stay near while visiting Auckland.
CSchady89 — Google review
First time to Auckland Railway Station as I'm an out of towner. It was pretty cool as railway stations go and leans toward that 'old station vibe' but with a touch of modern. Very clean and tidy and no shortage of helpful happy staff. The train itself was comfortable, clean, and well presented. However, it is not a match in any way to the beautiful old Auckland Railway Station.
IRFA L — Google review
Britomart reflects the true heart of Auckland — clean, vibrant, and surprisingly calm for a city hub. It’s a unique place where contrasting lifestyles coexist effortlessly. You’ll see both the rich and the struggling side by side, all just trying to make a living, and the city seems to welcome everyone with open arms. Whether you’re well-off or just finding your way, there’s a place for you here. The blend of urban architecture, green spaces, and the nearby waterfront brings together the best of land and sea. The only downside I noticed is the lack of free public parking, which can be inconvenient for vehicle owners. However, it’s very well connected through trains, buses, and ferries, making it easy to reach without a vehicle.

Maungawhau, also known as Mount Eden, is a significant cultural and spiritual site with historical importance. It was once a pa site and holds great significance for the local indigenous people. The summit offers breathtaking views of the city, making it a popular spot to watch the sunset. Limited vehicle access is available for those with mobility issues, and there's a car park at the base.
Amazing views of the Auckland region at the top of a very small volcano. The area used to be a Maori settlement and you can see signs of previous human habitation. Beautiful views but it was a bit windy when we went.

A must visit spot in Auckland with stunning 360° views of the city. The walk to the top is not difficult and rewards you with the impressive crater of an extinct volcano. Rich in history with visible Māori terracing, and well-preserved as a natural, peaceful place right in the heart of the city.
Vũ H — Google review
This is the highest volcanic origin peak in Auckland region. The location is very central and one can easily forget that it is in the middle of the city, when one starts climbing the summit. Vehicle access is allowed only until the parking, which is quite limited too. The nearby streets do have on street parking, where one can park and walk up the summit. There are many engaging features installed here now a days namely a boardwalk, well landscaped seating area to showcase the 360 degree views of the city, and some indigenous artefacts too. The Auckland city skyline can be seen in the background, which is one of the most popular photo spots on the summit. The crater on the top is well maintained and cordoned off. Public toilets are available near the parking lot. Child prams can be taken to the summit, with only a few stairs in the way. Highly recommended for a couple of hours excursion, with family and kids.

This is a must to do if you are physically fit.. the views of the city are 360 degrees splendidly. A volcano peak , crater, and boardwalk with bench .. the bus hop on , hop off takes you there at the bottom as well .. we took the city bus which took us pretty close as well . It’s free …
Monique B — Google review
The views here are gorgeous from inside the crater to the view fully around the outside of it. This place is very well maintenance and parking wasnt too bad. One of the must sees while in Auckland.

Amazing views and a peaceful escape right in the city!** Mt Eden (Maungawhau) is one of the best spots in Auckland to get a full 360° view of the city, harbour, and surrounding areas. The walk to the summit is short but scenic, with well-maintained paths and plenty of photo opportunities. The volcanic crater at the top is massive and impressive—it really makes you appreciate Auckland’s volcanic history. There are also informative signs about the site's cultural significance to Māori, which adds a meaningful layer to the experience. Things to know:** * Vehicle access is restricted at the summit, so expect a walk from the base * There are no fences around the crater, so caution is needed near the edge. * Best to go on a **clear day** for maximum visibility. Highly recommend to both locals and tourists. A must-do in Auckland!
Rafsan S — Google review
Maungawahu is a very beautiful spot, hill with a dormant volcano and a crater covered in greenery. From the parking it is about 10 minutes walk up the hill (overall about 20-30 minutes walk up and down with photo stops). The mount provides a birds eye view of Auckland and the surrounding landscape. Must visit place when you are in Auckland.
Sajeev T — Google review
Some of the great views of Auckland can be found at the top of Maungawhau/Mt Eden. The skywalk is a game changer for scenic views and photos. A great tourist attraction and nice short steep hike. Plenty of parking and toilets available on site.

Auckland Art Gallery, also known as Toi o Tamaki, is housed in a stunning 1800s château-style building and features a diverse collection of national and international art, including Maori works. Established in 1888, it was the first permanent art gallery in New Zealand. The gallery's four floors showcase over 15,000 artworks, ranging from traditional Maori paintings to European masterpieces and contemporary pieces by New Zealand artists.
Auckland Art Gallery – Where art breathes and the soul listens Stepping into the Auckland Art Gallery feels like crossing into another realm — from the noise of the city into a sanctuary of silence, color, and emotion. You’re never quite prepared for what happens inside. The walls, lined with works that speak every language of the human heart, seem to whisper stories from other times, other eyes, other worlds. Each gallery is its own universe. From powerful Māori portraits to bold contemporary pieces, everything invites you to look deeper — not just at the art, but within yourself. The building itself is a masterpiece: elegant, open, and light-filled. With soaring wooden columns like trees and rooftops that stretch toward the sky, it feels like a cathedral devoted to creativity. A place to feel, reflect, and be transformed. Because here, you don’t just see art — you experience it. 🎨🖼️✨

A great place to visit. This time round went to the 'A Century of Modern Art'. This was exhibition did cost. Other areas are free for you to wonder. Highly recommend. The gift shop has great gifts. There is also a cafe available. Pictures of the exhibition and other parts of the gallery.
Lisa — Google review
Went to go see the “A century of modern art” and it was amazing. Everything was set up well with each paintings given a description that fits perfectly. Though the layout was a little strange with the room connecting to both left and right rooms, giving it not much of a clear direction to go to next. Other part of the art gallery was great with the huge room being the best, especially the cats (tigers). Definitely should visit at least once especially with different exhibitions on all the time.
Shi H — Google review
Recent visit was for the 'A Century of Modern Art' show, it is much more relaxing and enjoyable to visit on a weekday. The gallery isn't too big meaning you can see everything in one visit. There's a small gallery store with a great selection of goods and a nice cafe on the 2nd floor. It does get confusing to navigate and locate the old/heritage site of the building which contains the gallery's owed pieces. Yearly memberships available, prices have gone up a lot for them. I bought a membership with guest pass, it cost over $150 I believe. In the past I recall it was $120 and it was cheaper before that too. But you have unlimited access to paid shows and membership gives you 10% off at gallery store and cafe.

A lovely visit. The art gallery was vibrant with a family event, Suzi Cato singing, musicians and wonderful art. The Cezanne is magic but there are so many wonderful displays. Lovely cafe as well.

We visited this art gallery close to our accommodation.. it’s free but you have to check in your backpack.. it has a ground floor which has the foyer+ gift shop .. the Mezzanine includes an art land for children ( where they can build cities with a special play dough) , a Tread of time with special portraits.. Level 1 has a section with abstract + surrealism paintings , the Robertson gift paintings, abstract that uses geometry, a section has Mãori treasured portraits, a section with some Pablo Picasso paintings then also a new section “ Pop to Present “ will open Nov 8 ..,Level 2 has Louise Bourgeois ( private view of her art + sculptures) , Nakuru “three scenes “ and the members lounge. We spent over 2 hours visiting.. Keep yourself open to different kinds of art!

Free and beautiful place. You can park your car In from of the gallery just for 2.5 per hour or 10 all the day. The you can go for a walk in the park. I really loved it.

I doubt there’s a better free experience in Auckland other than the views of the city. This is a small but might museum, with a great combination of renaissance, European, Māori, contemporary Māori, kiwi, and international art. I was very impressed by how well it was organized and the helpfulness of the staff, who explained some of the intricacies of regalia and pounamu. The Māori gallery with wooden lodge statues was especially impressive. It’s special that the city wants to share its art publicly and freely to all comers.

Eden Garden lives up to its name, offering a peaceful escape from city life. The beautiful gardens feature blooming flowers, majestic waterfalls, and a serene environment perfect for relaxation. Located near the Motorway and Gillies Ave in Auckland, this family-friendly garden offers something for everyone. Visitors can explore the diverse range of trees and flowering plants while enjoying the presence of chickens and a charming waterfall.
A mini botanic Gardens that can be covered within an hour but alot cooler during this period of time , spring time. It's so colourful with its variety of flora and fauna. Alot hilly and undulating but achievable for seniors. By the way seniors 65 and above only pay NZ$8 whilst adult admission is NZ$12. This place is worth the visit , I strongly recommend and there is even a cafe inside , so after the walk you could have a great tea break 👍👍👍👌👌👌

Fun place to go but however be cautious going on the mouse wheel as if you fall over it can be really painful. They have some really big slides which take a while to climb but it’s worth it once you get to the top. The mini trampoline in the ground is kinda sad and has nearly made me trip in it several times since it is just randomly placed into the ground. However still a fun playground to go to and it is really quick to go to stores since they are just behind the playground up a ramp.

West Lynn Garden & Butterfly House is a picturesque Auckland attraction that has been open to the public since 1983. The garden features a butterfly house where visitors can witness the development of hundreds of Monarch butterflies from December to April. The Palm Circle within the garden provides a romantic setting, making it a popular spot for marriage proposals. Despite the absence of butterflies in winter, the garden's tranquility and natural beauty make it an ideal retreat throughout the year.
Only $5 entry to these beautiful sprawling gardens. Plenty of picnic spots and seats, and trees that provide shade on hot days. The monarch butterfly house is lovely too. Great place to take the family for a relaxing time.

Had a look around today , gardens in autumn shades. Got be worth going back in the for the camellias and other flowering shrubs. A little disappointed about the lack of butterflies today, but that I guess there will be more in the spring. Aside from that the walk ways are reasonably accessible , some stairs in some parts. Still well worth a look at this hidden gem.

Delightful, peaceful wooded garden with lots of lovely clearings with seats to sit on. Also there are a number of cute Summer Houses dotted around the garden. The Butterfly House has several lovely Monarchs in it. They even thought of an umbrella over the fish pond to keep the water cooler for the Goldfish. Parking is in the grounds. A wonderful project run by volunteers - thank you so much!

A wonderful natural retreat right in the Auckland suburbs, easily accessible by public transport. Despite not having any butterflies in winter, the ambience and tranquility of the garden is absolutely breathtaking. From the various greens and links of the plants to the chirping of birds, the butterfly house is a perfect place for relaxing in beautiful Mother Nature. Better still, the area is well maintained by the cheerful and friendly staff who are absolutely delightful ti chat with. It won't be an exaggeration to say that this garden is like a slice of NZ nature at its best. Definitely worth the $5 entrance fee! .

This small park in Auckland CBD has a really old tree, making it like a mini forest. The branches are hanging so it is easy to move through them; it's also a good place for couples. The area is quiet, although cars pass by from time to time. It's a great place for lunch or to simply relax.
A prime example of nature being left to itself without human involvement. The gorgeous old trees have been left to grow in whichever direction they choose often blocking the path. A peaceful area to sit and appreciate your surroundings
SARGES’ F — Google review
Had an excellent time sitting back and reading in this park. Fun to look at with the trees growing across the sidewalk. Was approached a a couple homeless people, but they were friendly enough and not too pushy. Didn't bother me much from my reading

A Pocket of History and Nature While Auckland boasts expansive parks with grand trees, Emily Place, a charming little reserve near the Pullman hotel, offers a unique experience. Towering pohutukawa trees intertwine overhead, their branches occasionally brushing the path, creating a sense of wonder. Steel supports holding up some branches add an unexpected touch of industrial charm. Hidden at the heart of the reserve, where paths converge, lies a monument marking the site of the original St. Paul's Church. The plaque on its pedestal holds a double delight: a historical artifact – a misspelling from the original engraving – and a fascinating way it was rectified!
Kallie T — Google review
Went to see the incredibly beautiful tree that has taken over part of the walking path. At one point I had to bow pretty low underneath one of the branches but it was so worth it to get a better look at this gigantic beauty. The small park itself was lovely and serene.

Waiatarua Reserve is a great place to walk your dog. It has an off-leash area and a lot of diversity so it's never boring. There are also a few side tracks if you want more variety. In wet times there are lots of mud puddles, so this might not be the best park to go during rainstorms.
Amazing park. Love to take the dog here. Carpark near the men's shed has a hose to wash off the dog after playing in the ponds.

Beautiful spot with plenty of open spaces, walking tracks, and scenic views. A great place for a peaceful stroll or a family outing. However, if you’re afraid of dogs, this may not be the best place for you, as it’s very popular with dog owners and their furry friends often roam freely. For dog lovers, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy some off-leash fun!
Veena M — Google review
I got out of my car and was almost immediately greeted by a friendly dog. This place is very popular with dog walkers, so is a great place to go if you want to take yours, or just meet some. It is a little more pleasant in the summer, rather than the blustery winter day I visited on, but it's a nice walk with wetlands and native plants everywhere.
Roderick S — Google review
I love that this place is so welcoming to dogs! They provide water for everyone, a dog pool, and toilet. The facilities are mostly well-maintained. Unfortunately, there are a few irresponsible dog owners whose dogs are not trained or controlled, leading to dog fights and even attacks on people. On top of that, the place is not very clean, so be prepared to give your dog a shower afterward.
Charles D — Google review
Bring your pooch to Waiatarua Reserve, rain or shine. Popular off leash dog park , roughly 4000 steps , one round, metalled and bush walk to enjoy. Ponds for dogs to wade or dive into , plenty of parking , friendly walkers , good mix of dogs for your dog to socialise with and a hose to clean them up before jumping in your car.
Warwick — Google review
A massive walking/running:cycling nature reserve and plenty of space for dog walking too. Love that there’s a swimming hole under the bridge that our dog loves! There is a stick library there and a forest walk that will make your doggy walk interesting too. A great place for dogs to be social as well. There is also a hose in the very nice car park where you can give your furby a drink or wash him down if they get dirty. Lots to see here and very uplifting - fresh air and nature, a duck pond and lots of areas for your dog to run and play. It’s our boys most favourite place since he was a puppy. One thing that stands out is how friendly other dog owners are too.

Great off-leash Park for walking your dog. My dog just loves this park and starts crying with excitement about half a kilometre before we get there because she loves it THAT much! Nestled in the heart of Auckland's North Shore, Le Roys Bush Reserve is a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This lush reserve offers a delightful 3.5km loop track that meanders through stunning native bush, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks, bird watching, or simply soaking in nature’s beauty. The trail is accessible from both Hinemoa Street and Little Shoal Bay, providing easy entry points for visitors.
This is a great little walking reserve. If you read the other reviews they have some good comments about birds and the peacefulness. Currently the North arm is closed off because of a slip. But the Southend you can walk all the way to Birkenhead. The whole length is about 2000 m one way from the car park on the East end play the bowling. I've included two maps from two different entrances one of the maps is better than the other. Please don't walk with your dogs off and don't forget to pick up after them.

Le Roy's Bush Reserve is one of the very popular tramping bushes in the North Shore of Auckland. You can either enter from Hinemoa Street in Hibury or from the Little Shoal Bay side and the loop track runs for about 3.5km. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average one and a half to two hours to complete the loop leisurely. This is a very popular bush for bird watching, running, and walking. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. It has a nice canopy of trees with lots of interesting flora and fauna. It contains lowland forest with significant presence of kauri-tanekaha, broadleaved, and pohutukawa with wetland associations to the nearby estuary. The Shoal Bay Stream is habitat for indigenous fish including inanga, banded kokopu, longfin eel and shortfin eel. Le Roy's Bush was originally purchased by Edward Le Roy in 1918. He established three ponds where he grew water lilies and kept goldfish. After his death the reserve was purchased by a public subscription organized by the North Shore Branch of the Forest and Bird Society and has since been extended from the original block by addition of further purchases of bush-clad back yards. Now the Bush spreads into about 12 hectares in extent where it joins the Little Shoal Bay Reserve (7.5 hectares) and Lutmers Reserve (2.6 hectares) near Wilding Ave in Northcote. Little Shoal Bay is a destination on its own, having a picnic area with BBQ, a small beach for swimming at high tide, a playground and over the road, bowling club, a tennis court and a basketball court.
Thilal P — Google review

I visited the Domain Wintergardens in Auckland Domain and left absolutely enchanted—here’s my glowing review: 🌿 5‑★ Review: Auckland Domain Wintergardens Atmosphere & Setting Tucked away in the peaceful Auckland Domain, the Wintergardens feel like a hidden retreat amidst the city’s hustle. From the moment you step into the courtyard with its sunken pond and classical marble statues, it’s clear this place was built to transport you. Glasshouses & Plant Life The two glasshouses are stunningly beautiful: one housing seasonal temperate flora, and the other a tropical oasis with orchids, palms, and exotic blooms. The contrast in climates and plant varieties keeps things exciting as you wander. Fernery & Historical Nod Don’t miss the fernery—an atmospheric chill zone nestled in an old volcanic quarry, brimming with ferns and native plant life. A refreshing contrast to the lush greenhouse interiors. Ambience & Experience It’s calm, photogenic, and serene—ideal for reading, strolling, or snapping beautiful shots. The heritage architecture, light-filled vaults, and fragrant greenery create a peaceful, almost magical environment. Practical Perks • Free admission—no entry fee for the Wintergardens. • Convenient central location—right next to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The Wintergarden in Auckland’s domain has two glass houses restored recently and one with plants from temperate and one tropical climate. There are frogs and tadpoles, at the moment, in the warm water pool with the water lilies. Very picturesque and a touch of England’s Victorian grandeur on the other side of the world. It doesn’t take too long to see it all but slow down a notch and it’s worth visiting if you’re in the domain already. Don’t forget to go through the gate aptly titled the Fernery!

Selwyn Reserve in Mission Bay is a picturesque green space with trees, a large fountain, and benches, making it an ideal spot for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The reserve is conveniently located near the city center and offers a new playground for kids. While there are no adventure sports available, visitors can enjoy the beach access, group sports in the park, and various dining options nearby.
A free feel Beach with lots of cafes and food joints. Clean sand, but with lots of sea shells. Public toilets available.

Drove from deep South Auckland to take my pooch for a night walk.... Thought it would be safe and pretty. Pretty it was! Most definitely A LOVELY spot.... But got harassed by a group of teenagers - literally went out of their way to terrorise my dog and crept up on me after I had walked past. Honestly, the teens are better behaved in the tougher parts of Auckland! I left, not sure what they were on, but it was truly unpleasant.

Location: 48-56 Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay, Auckland 1071, New Zealand. • Also called Mission Bay Reserve by locals. It’s the green open space between the beach and the shops along Mission Bay. ⸻ Features & Facilities Selwyn Reserve has a lot to offer. Stunning walk, great designated bike and walking sections on the walkway, coastline stretches out so there's plenty of space to swim if you don't wanna be at the main beach, always best at high tide on a calm day! Wear you suncream

Barry Curtis Park is a vast suburban park with an expansive area for various sports, such as football and baseball, located towards the south. To the west, just below the bridge, there is a basketball court and skate park. Throughout the park's perimeter, you can find several playgrounds spread out for recreational purposes. This park primarily caters to exercise and local community recreation. At the southernmost side of the park, there are facilities equipped with changing rooms available.
We walk our dog here often and it's always well kept. Grass is cut regularly and no litter around. They have the Park Run there as well on a Sat morning. Basketball courts, skate park, lots of different walking paths. There's rugby fields. Public toilets. They're about to update the kids playground too. Great park!
Lauren L — Google review
Barry Curtis Park is a hidden gem in Auckland! The park offers a spacious and peaceful environment, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a picnic. The well-maintained walking paths, beautiful greenery, and large open spaces make it a great spot for families, friends, or anyone looking to unwind. There’s also a great playground for kids and plenty of seating areas to enjoy the surroundings. Whether you're walking your dog or just taking in the fresh air, it's an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful outdoor experience!

My first time there. A beautiful park great for a walk, a jog or simply to chill out. Will stop there often now to walk my dog. It was safe for him to run around away from the road and plenty of space.
Maheata A — Google review
Decided to walk here for a change. Lots of long tracks, so great for cycling. It's near roads and there's a lot of houses nearby, so you don't exactly feel surrounded by nature. Quite enjoyed it but can't really beat the Botanic Gardens.

Great park for all ages. Lots of parking. Easy access. Toilets. Water fountain. Con rete path around the whole park. Shelter from rain or sun. Wildlife. Playground. Plenty of room for everyone.

Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve is a nostalgic spot for many, offering a moderate walk to the beach through the reserve. Despite limited parking, it's a beautiful place for picnics with a good-sized playground and facilities like toilets and BBQ areas. The beach itself is not ideal for swimming due to shells, but there are steps into the water if you fancy a dip. Additionally, visitors can explore the Manukau Coastal Walkway from here.
Beautiful when the tide is in. My Children loved swimming here over the summer. Has everything you need. Not too busy.
B W — Google review
Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve, located in Auckland's Blockhouse Bay suburb, is a charming spot offering a blend of natural beauty and recreational amenities. The reserve features a small beach with soft sand, making it suitable for swimming, picnicking, and leisurely walks along the shore. Families will appreciate the well-maintained playground, providing a safe and enjoyable area for children. The surrounding greenery, complete with picnic tables and benches, offers a serene environment for relaxation. Facilities such as public toilets and outdoor showers are available for visitor convenience. However, parking can be limited during peak times, so arriving early is advisable. While the beach is relatively modest in size, its tranquil atmosphere and scenic views make it a delightful destination for both locals and tourists seeking a peaceful retreat.

Lovely spot with just enough parking . Kids love the player parents like the grass and beach. It tree lined sheltered and picturesque. Im from the shore.

I love my morning walks here; they allow me to meditate and sing to my heart's content. It’s such a beautiful and tranquil spot, with breathtaking scenery and plenty of birds to enjoy. There’s also a fantastic playground for children, and the area is quite popular for rock fishing. Today, I met a lovely lady named Vicky, who was clearing foliage from the garden while I tidied the rubbish bins near the playground. Thank you, Vicky, for joining me and for being a tidy Kiwi! I see and appreciate you! 🌺🫶

There is a walk to the beach via the reserve which is quite moderate. It's a beautiful beach and lot of place to have a picnic. There is a limited parking and a playing ground for the kids. Toilets are available which are open in the evening also. The water is not good for swimming and loads of shells are lying around. When you enter the reserve it splits to the Manukau Coastal Walkway for walking and hiking trails.

Beautiful, accessible spot. Great for a relaxing day out with a few beautiful, quiet and still beaches, some nice native bush and the odd bird hanging out in the trees. Also saw a stick insect. A bit of rubbish on the beach though 😭. Also a popular spot to go fishing from the pier. Beautiful views too
Avo C — Google review
Convenient parking only meters from the beach Many tables on the beachfront to enjoy a picnic and views Not too many shady spots here though so could be ideal to take an umbrella for shade like we did. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this beach for the 7hour day we spent lounging here.. stunning views, clean toilets / shower, and everything close by to pack up once done. Beach has a lot of shells (less sand) bit overcast when we first arrived but ☀️ really makes the water sparkle Excited to come back & enjoy the lookout scenery / do one of the walks next time
Tanaya P — Google review
This Regional Park is a hidden gem. Lots of native bush. It has two major stops to look at the views and they are absolutely stunning. You then descend down to Waitawa beach. The beach is peaceful, calm and serene with the most beautiful natural scenery. There are bbqs, toilets, plenty of picnic tables and a lovely sandy beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach. Being only half an hour drive from South Auckland, we think it's well worth the drive.
Fiona D — Google review
A beautiful regional park with dogs allowed on leash on the walks (there are sheep about), a few native birds and a bay with toilets. The walk was quiet and peaceful, though the bay was very busy on the day we went (New Year's Day) and I would highly recommend avoiding visiting on public holidays. A few of the directions are a little unclear but you shouldn't get too lost.
Che K — Google review
“Waitawa Park: Scenic Stopover Worth the Drive” Stunning views and peaceful vibes — Waitawa Regional Park is like New Zealand showing off a little. The road down is narrow and a bit dramatic (especially if your brakes are questionable), but the view waiting at the bottom? Worth every turn. Crystal clear water, soft breeze, and more shells than a souvenir shop. The toilets are surprisingly clean, which is a big win if you’ve been road-tripping on caffeine and regrets. There’s a campground too (not sure if it's free or paid, though — I wasn’t in tent mode). I didn’t make it to the wharf on the other side of the mountain — it was getting dark and I value my ankles. Just had a quick stopover, soaked in the beauty, and zero regrets. Also, plenty of free parking and barely a crowd. Almost felt like I had the place to myself. "Logan was here… and the water was clearer than my weekend plans."
Loga_KL — Google review
Beautiful coastal park close to Auckland city. There are a number of nice walks of differing length and difficulty. Some stunning coastal scenery on a good day. There's a couple of ok beaches there. One was quite busy with daytrippers so probably best to come early to get a spot at weekends. The walks go through farmland and bush too so they are reasonably interesting.
Adrian S — Google review
A lovely place to go for a picnic with family and friends on a sunny day. There are a couple of tables and benches by the beachfront. Also, a public toilet so you can comfortably enjoy your day there. I went on a weekday so there weren’t a lot of people. There’s also a wharf where you can go fishing.

Bramley Reserve - Rotary Walkway offers a pleasant and scenic 4km walk from Bramley Park to the wharf, making it ideal for walking, jogging, cycling, and scootering. The path is wide and straight with minimal inclines, providing a relaxed experience alongside the water. The route features multiple benches for taking in the spectacular views and connects Panmure basin to Half Moon Bay marina. It's recommended to visit during the day and take precautions against sun exposure.
Really nice long walk. I walked from Bramley park to the wharf (towards the left direction wise) was a good 4km there and back. The path can be wide and straight so it's great for bicycles and scooters as well not many inclines so ideal for running jogging too. Just absolutely lovely and pleasant on a sunny day when u have the water on the side at all times. It's also relatively low key and quiet so perhaps best to go during the day time. Remember to wear a hat and plenty of sunblock.

A stunning spot for walking and other recreational activities. There were swimmers, wind surfers, kayakers and runners while we were there. The scenery is stunning but the tracks are run down and it's obvious council maintenance is lacking. It truly is a hidden gem with beautiful views and bush making for a great spot to enjoy albeit lunch, a walk or something more
Phil P — Google review
A gorgeous place with lots of native birds. Wasn't sure if running was allowed as there were signs saying no biking, but not one for running...I ran slow anyway.
Anne L — Google review
We loved the walking trails in this wetlands park area and all of the singing birds! One of the best places in the area for birdwatchers or for wildlife enthusiasts. We also liked the easy access from the trails to multiple starting points from the parking area and streets, and that the paved walkway on the north end connected with another park that was nice to relax in, and had a play area for kids. There is access from the trails to the Glendowie Sand Spit, and many people relax in that area or swim. The Sand Spit also seems to be very popular with kite boarders, and they are fun to watch! We walked these trails almost every day when we were staying in the area, so don’t miss it!

Mangemangeroa Reserve is a nature preserve located in Auckland, New Zealand that offers hikers diverse landscapes including salt marsh habitat, farmland, estuary and native bushes. The reserve offers good views of other natural habitats such as the coast and estuary which attract a variety of birds including pukeko, kingfisher, oystercatchers and grey warblers.
Love this track. Up and down like a roller coaster! Almost entirely in the shade in the bush, don't let the start fool you!

My husband and I visited Mangemangeroa Reserve on 3/2/2024. We both love the short hike and the breathtaking views there. There are three different hiking trails, namely Rotary Loop, Hayley Lane Reserve and Shelly Park Reserve. We highly recommend you to visit there if you happen to drive to East Auckland.
Addie L — Google review
Nice walk, bit humid, didn’t see many birds despite Auckland Councils recommendation as a nice birding site (only saw a few tui, Piwakawaka, eastern rosella, and a few oyster catchers - around Shelly park beach)

This is a very beautiful scenic walk,1000 steps to the summit and when you arrive you are taken aback by the stunning views. We have visited this place twice now and only a 15 min drive from Manakau City. Love it here. I'd just like to mention Clevedon Wharf Reserve as well, a beautifully shaded area for people to stop, great for the dogs too.
Fiona D — Google review
It is a good trail offering visitors either a very short 10 minute walk to a small waterfall or a longer 40+ minute one way summit walk. Please not the waterfall is too tiny and not suitable for swimming. The parking here is quite limited.
Leon L — Google review

Alex T — Google review
1000 steps steep climb to get on to the top . After I reach it’s a marvelous view . Carry a water bottle to get hydrated. And water fall is down near the entrance of the steep climb and it’s 10 minutes walk to the waterfall.
Physiotherapist ط — Google review
The amount of stairs can be a bit intimidating but generally it is a quick and easy walk that can make you sweat. Just don’t forget to stretch before you start. It is not that hot even during a sunny day because of all the shade along the track.
Elisha C — Google review
Great walk and view from the top, be prepared for stairs. Eastern track is currently closed or else you be able to do the loop. It’s a good track for running, some parts can be narrow so watch out for other runners and people. There’s a small confidence course next to the car park which is also fun. Parking is available in the small car park or along the road just outside. The short walk to the old quarry is nice for some simple photos.

Firstly, there are many steps! So if you love a bit of cardio! Here is the place. It is in the shade so you would not get burnt. It is a dog dog-friendly place. On the top, I saw some kind heart put the water bowl for Little Four legs. I give the hiking level here 3/5 . Love it 😀

Point View Reserve offers a fantastic walking experience with over 700 steps to the summit. As you stroll through the reserve, you’ll enjoy the sounds of Tui birds and, if you're lucky, spot some Australian parrots. It requires moderate fitness due to the steps, accessible via Murphy's Road or the car park off Point View Road. From the summit, you can enjoy stunning views of farmland, Rangitoto Island, the ocean, Sky City, and the development of South Auckland. The sunset from this vantage point is truly worth the hike.

My husband and I went to Point View Reserve for a walk on 28/2/2024. The views there were amazing and breathtaking. There were not many people there so the atmosphere was so tranquil and peaceful. We highly recommend you to get there and enjoy the magnificent views there.
Addie L — Google review
Loved that this is a more challenging walking path. It’s also dog friendly and is a rolling countryside escape just minutes from the busy eastern suburbs hub. Lots of space and several paths. The kick came at the end - return trip to the car park area with over 500 steps uphill - so you really need to be fairly resilient for this one. The upside is that the pathways are well maintained and accessible and clean and clear. A beautiful sunny day made it a very good choice. Recommend to most people but definitely consider the pathway back - track or stairs. The views up here are phenomenal - you can get clear views wether you look east, west, north or south. Sunset up here would be amazing too.
