The 99 Steps in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, is a historic brick staircase built in the 1700s by the Danish colony using bricks brought from Denmark on sailing ships. It leads up a hill to Blackbeard's Castle and offers stunning views of the harbor and surrounding islands. The area is known for its hilly landscape, and these steep streets and staircases were constructed to facilitate navigation.
GPS is slightly off on this location, but not by much. In the area there are 3 sets of steps, but the 99 steps is marked as such and all the steps are in a row, no gaps and no breaks. Anyhow very beautiful area and it's definitely worth seeing. But if you need some exercise find the other two big sections of steps in the area, as both are more than 99 if I counted right.

Worth visting to get a sense of history and how the town is laid out. Takes only a few mins to walk up to the top, so you can say you did it :) Whoever is building the new house at the top will have a wonderful view of the port, so go now while it is still under construction.
Patrick S — Google review
It is only a short walk from the Charlotte Amalie Historic District (interesting, but tons of jewelry dealers), Fort Christian, the local vendor's plaza, and Emancipation Garden. Definitely worth a quick hop skip and jump to walk over and up them. I counted 102 total steps and 66 of the old stone. The remaining steps were concrete. All in all, a very cool sense of the history from the natives of the Ciboney tribes, the Taino or Arawak tribe and the Caribs to the Spanish, Danish, and British. Quite the few hundred years for this attractive little waterfront...
Timothy M — Google review
Sometimes it was easier to build steps up a mountain than a sidewalk. This is a step side walk. It has a ton of history around it, such as the buildings and ruins; and lovely flowers along the way. It would be an interesting place for a photographer. There are some cool shots to capture. When you reach the top, there is a stunning view of the bay. Go early in the morning, it gets a tad warm.

99 Steps offers a captivating journey through history that every visitor to St. Thomas should experience. As you ascend these well-worn steps, flanked by charming historic buildings, you can't help but feel transported back in time. The cobblestone path and aged facades evoke a sense of nostalgia that is both charming and enchanting. Reaching the summit, one is greeted by the crowning jewel of this climb – Blackbeard's Castle. This iconic structure stands tall, a testament to the rich maritime history of the Caribbean. The panoramic views from this vantage point are nothing short of breathtaking. The lush greenery and azure waters stretching out in every direction create a scene straight from a postcard. For any tourist, this excursion is an absolute must. 99 Steps not only provides a physical journey but also a voyage through time and culture. It's a chance to immerse oneself in the stories of the past while enjoying the stunning beauty of the present. Don't miss out on this unique and unforgettable experience when visiting St. Thomas

A nice stroll along the steps. Not too hard to climb. Great views for looking around and being a tourist. Also a great area for photo ops. Steps are historic and old, but beautiful nonetheless and leads to different parts like a restaurant, black beard's castle, or a rum store.
Arianne — Google review
One of the hidden gems in St. Thomas’s capital city of Charlotte Amalie are the 99 steps located on Kongens Gade, just east of Hotel 1829. Walking through this historic landmark can provide a time for meditation, reflection and reverence whether alone or with family and/or friends. If you are up for the challenge (there are actually 106 steps) the climb is a bit of a workout. Once at the top, the views are spectacular and you can use your imagination to think of all the pirates, town folks, and royalty that ascended those stairs on their way to Blackbeard’s Castle. (Due to damages from the 2017 hurricanes, the castle is now closed to the public). Nevertheless, the rewards for climbing the steps are many including the native flowers and plants along both sides of the stairs and it’s FREE! As it is told, the original bricks were constructed from ships that came from Denmark and used to make travel around the island much easier. Enjoy your visit 👣.
Tanya G — Google review
Quick 2 minute climb will take you to the top of these historic stairs for a grand view of the Charlotte Amalie harbor and area. Worth the stop and as there are no cruises these days the place was empty empty.

The Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas, the second-oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, holds a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1833. Despite enduring several fires, this resilient symbol of Sephardic Jewish heritage features sand-covered floors representing ancestral courage. The Weibel Memorial Museum within showcases artifacts and images chronicling the island's Jewish community history.
My family and I went here on a vacation a while back, and it was so beautiful. The architecture is just magnificent, and the sand floor was such a beautiful touch. I remember also seeing an iguana, and it was extravagant. I definitely recommend visiting this place because it was such a wonderful experience for me and my family.

Certainly worth the visit to see the 2nd oldest Synagogue in the hemisphere. Sand floors are amazing. Only about 2 blocks off the beat and path of the main shops. Free to go in and take photos. Even if you not Jewish it's worth the trip if you appreciate such things.

Pretty awesome place. The second oldest Synagogue in the western hemisphere! The Synagogue floor is covered with sand. You'd think it's because the of the tropical location but actually it's just to make the service quite. The guide your is amazing. They are open for tourists again since the October 2020. Must see.

Pretty cool synagogue. We had a private tour that lasted about 20 minutes. It was free and informative. Worth the quick trip to see it.

Step back in time, not only when the chosen people were being persecuted by the nazies, but even further back as a surging nation gathering to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

What a beautiful synagogue!! It was worth the trip up the steep hill. We went in because we were hot and tired and this was one of the few places on our self-guided historic walking tour that allowed you to go in. Inside we found a beautiful facility filled with so much history. There's a museum with lots of information and photos that tell the synagogue's story. The rabbi was there and actually greeted us and answered questions. The sand floor and why it has a sand floor was fascinating information. We stayed for quite awhile to take it all in.

I talked to the warden in my visit right after it opened at 9:30 am (on Dec. 27, 2023). The formal tour requires a minimum of 4 when there was only me. So, I was not really given a formal tour though the nice warden talked with me quite a bit on and off. But it seemed to me that he was worried about the security of the Congregation, presumably due to what had happened in Israel and Gaza. He told me quite a few things. When I asked him whether the sand on the floor was really symbolic for the Exodus of Egypt, he said that there might be 5 stories which are all true, including the fact that the sand wouldn't create much noise when the fishermen stepped in with their heavy boots 😀

Fantastic walking tour of historic Charlotte Amalia with Liz. Wonderful & colorful stories of the history of the island and its architecture. Liz obviously has a love of St. Thomas and the islands history. Highly recommended.
Kristin D — Google review
I've taken two tours with the trust and both were fantastic, small group experiences. I'm a history geek, I go on a lot of historical tours, and the tours with trust are top notch. The two tour guides are very knowledgeable, they answer all your questions citing primary sources and let you know when they're making inferences, these are not people who will make up fun stories for tourists. For context, the trust is a small organization, and I believe it's completely volunteer run. I've emailed them a few times, and they're always been responsive. Sometimes it take a few days to get a response, because these people are volunteers busy living their lives. The tours meet at the museum, and the exploring the artifacts is fun for a bit. That said, it's a pretty small museum, and I wouldn't plan a trip around the museum if I wasn't going on a tour. Also, it might be closed if the trust is running a tour. Overall, the trust does an amazing job of both preserving St Thomas' history and sharing it with visitors.

Incredible museum that we just bopped into for a whim. We had about 30 minutes until we needed to head to the airport and was going to check out a gift shop, as we just happened to pass by. In our brief time, Will filled us with so much information and joy, we couldn't have imagined not visiting. His knowledge is vast, his personality is genuine, and it was a real pleasure to get the quick tour. We hope that when we someday revisit with more time, Will is still giving tours, as we'd love to do the hiking tour with him. There is something here for everybody, all ages. Weird 2 horned tuba thingy, to a Smithsonian worthy bottle collection, information about pirates, and lots of really cool indigenous artifacts. Great place to start or finish your USVI trip. Thanks for that incredible impromptu tour, that was such a great end-cap, to a wonderful trip. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it!
Chris W — Google review
The museum has a new Caribbean music section with traditional folk, calypso, quelbe, soca, and jazz vinyl lps and CDs. All have QR codes for visitors to scan to hear some of the songs. There are also a few traditional instruments and items of interest to children including a book and video that teaches calypso. Great book about sports by a retired local broadcaster named Liston who was befriended by Muhammad Ali when he visited St Thomas. Also information about US Navy submarine base which trained the Frogmen before they were Navy Seals. Something for everyone! Donations welcome.

In the heart of St. Thomas, just off Main Street, stands the historic Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church. Established in 1666, it is one of the oldest institutions on the island and holds significant Danish colonial history. The current Georgian-style building was dedicated in 1793 and has endured disasters, undergoing repairs and remodeling over the years.

I was raised in this church and it’s where my walk with the Lord began thanks to my wonderful grandmother. Although I left the island this church is still my home church every time I visit. Pastor Malone is incredible and blessed to be a blessing.
D R — Google review
I booked this church for my wedding and everything was running smoothly at first. Submitted all documents well in advance especially the payment. However, as the ceremony got closer their true colors started to show. No one contacted me to schedule any meetings or rehearsals. I went to the front office to inquire about a schedule and was told the pastor will have a zoom meeting with me. Never received any login info! 30 mins past the scheduled time I received a call from the front office annoyed that I missed the meeting I had no information for. During the meeting, the pastor was EXTREMELY rude and kept throwing shade even during her PRAYER at me! It was an issue to schedule our rehearsal to which no one at the church showed up to! A battle to decorate the church until my MoH put her foot down. Fast forward to my wedding day...the pastor did not want the photographer to set up because of time. The USB drive containing my music could not be found! I had to play my music on my phone near the wedding party so they could hear! No mics were provided while saying our vows and I'm being charged a systems fee! One employee lies for no reason at all! For example, said employee said they were unaware of my rehearsal day and time despite speaking to me earlier that day and trying to force me to decorate during rehearsal or on the day of my wedding. There were many other lies which would make this post even longer. Would give ZERO stars if I could! Terrible service from a Christian entity.

(Translated by Google) A church with bright colors. I don’t know if it’s a historic site. I didn’t see any sign at the entrance. Maybe I didn’t look carefully. Because the colors are very bright, it’s also very bright when photographed in the sun, and it may even be overexposed. It was closed that day, so I didn’t go in to visit. But this church seems to appear on the tourist map, so it should be a tourist attraction or a historic site. This church has a bright and colorful exterior. I’m not sure if it’s an official historic site — there wasn’t any information sign at the entrance, or maybe I just didn’t look closely enough. Because of the vibrant colors, it really stands out in photos, especially under the sunlight — it can even get a bit overexposed in pictures. St. Thomas Reformed Church, originally built as Fort Christian by the Danish over 300 years ago, has served various purposes including government housing, a church, and a military fortification. It offers a great worship experience for tourists on Sunday mornings with biblically-based services. The church is known for its welcoming and loving community of believers. In addition to religious services, it also hosts morning AA meetings on certain days of the week. However, parking can be challenging at times.
The pastor is one of the best I have encountered, his messaging reaches all segments of attendees. The church building is iconic, including an upstairs section that spans 3 sides of the sanctuary. And the congregation are welcoming and inclusive. Love this place of worship!

District government office
The United States Virgin Islands Legislature Building, with its charming light yellow colonial façade, stands as a testament to the rich history and political life of the islands. Originally constructed in 1874 by the Danish as a police barracks, it has served various purposes over the years, including housing U.S. Marines and even functioning as a public school. This historic site is notable for hosting the ceremony that marked the transfer of the Virgin Islands to American control.
Short walk from NCL cruise pier. Couldn't go inside but some cannons outside and nice water views.
Slim S — Google review
I'd give this place a negative rating if possible. There are no tours, there is no staff to help you, you cannot do a self guided tour, not even walk past the lobby. The guard at the entrance is the least professional and non polite officer I've ever encountered at any government building. They are not used to visitors - not trained and, I recommend skipping this place at all.

Fort Christian, originally constructed in the late 1600s by Denmark and Norway, played a crucial role as a defense point and seat of government during the colonial administrations. The Gothic Revival-style main building houses a museum with rotating exhibits dedicated to the diverse people who lived on the island during the colonial era. As the oldest structure on St. Thomas, it holds centuries of history within its thick walls. Visitors can explore this historic site, which also offers panoramic views from its roof.
I was blown away by my visit. This fort is huge. It has all sorts of rooms, tunnels, and circular staircases. Their ingenuity in design and features and construction is amazing, especially that they did it all without modern manufacturing or computers
Linley B — Google review
This is the oldest building in St. Thomas. It's very well preserved and we enjoyed touring the cells, although some felt creepy and unsettling. Overall, it was a great experience.
Rachel P — Google review
The tour of the church was excellent, but the recording was not working properly so you were not able to get the full history of each room. The lookout at the rooftop is the best view of the entire city. Self-directed tour.
Out O — Google review
This was a beautiful place with some historical markers on the outside. You can buy a pass and get a tour from the front office. It's right next to the downtown area in the downtown parking lot.
Caitlin C — Google review
Do not go. Brochure has errors. Only one working iPad that has audio of info that you can read on the screen. No other info on most of the exhibits. Waste of time and money. Only open M-F and closed on the many US and local holidays.
Karen W — Google review
$10 a person to get in, which is not bad at all. Self guided tour. Restrooms. Close to plenty of other attractions in the area. If you came on an NCL cruise, a 20+ minute walk if I remember right. All that aside, this place is cool as can be for how old it is, especially if you like history. It could use some more historical information on the inside, but checking out all the rooms, the dungeon, and the views from the roof are awesome. Go check it out!
Slim S — Google review
A self taken tour that ended with a beautiful view. artists. The dungeon shows the actual pictures and stories of prisoners. It has a sad and creepy vibe in certain cells. Then rooms show the comparison of the governor's quarters. Different displays show local artisits. Well worth the visit for the entire family.
Richard M — Google review
We really enjoyed touring Fort Christian! It was a self “guided” tour but we found plenty of plaques or screens to read about its history and the dungeons and solitary confinement prisons were interesting to see! There were only a few others touring at the same time, maybe 10 people total, but I was really glad we decided to do it. The views from the top were beautiful and it was fascinating to see the construction.

Havensight Mall is a popular shopping destination located near Bluebeards, offering a wide array of duty-free items such as jewelry, electronics, and souvenirs. Situated within walking distance from Downtown Charlotte Amalie and Yacht Haven Grande, the mall provides an opportunity to witness majestic cruise ships docking at the nearby port.
Extremely close to the cruise dock, just the length of your ship and you ready to eat, drink and explore. Wonderful There are many options to get around the island or just stay local. There's a great array of shops including a fantastic local supermarket which has excellent produce, alcohol and medication. Decent prices, no gouging tourists which is very refreshing. The shops can supply everything you want for swimming, hats, lovely clothes for men and women and souvenirs. Bit pricey but so lovely, treat yourself you might not come here again, but I bet you will. Charlotte Amelie is a beautiful town and is probably a great base if you have time to venture out. There are masses of restaurants and bars, shops and great places to stroll. The sand taxis are roomy, open air and great fun. Bit like a converted truck meets the tourist land trains. I've never seen them anywhere else, they are plentiful and take you all over. This is a gorgeous port stop only spoiled by an early departure and being stuck onboard by US customs and immigration which has to be done onboard. We still had half a day and it is worth it even for a couple of hours.
Maya A — Google review
Cool shops, but not a very authentic or unique experience. Cruise port shopping centers are so commercialized. I'd rather get off the beaten path and spend my money somewhere more authentic.
Jakeb K — Google review
Lively, Fun, and Full of Options! We visited Havensight Mall a couple of times during our trip—both with and without our cherished company—and it was a great experience each time. While it was definitely more crowded when the cruise ships were in, the energy was still enjoyable and never overwhelming. The area is lively and full of things to do, from shopping and dining to just strolling around and soaking in the local vibe. There are plenty of shops, both tourist-friendly and local, and a few great spots to grab a bite or a drink. It’s a good idea to go with a plan or a few destinations in mind, just because there’s so much packed into the area. Can’t wait to go back—definitely one of those places where every visit can be a little different depending on what you’re in the mood for! Highly recommend adding it to your St. Thomas itinerary.

There's a variety of shops, restaurants, and even a grocery store we've grown to like. We will go out of our way to eat and shop here because the area is kid friendly and easy to maneuver. Parking is available, and the food is delicious no matter where you eat.

This mall is just like the other shopping areas in Charlotte Amalie. Friendly people (except at the Pandora store, and I'm serious about that). Lots of jewelery as with everywhere else. Some boutique shops too. Tap & Still is always the right choice for lunch.

I enjoyed this shopping experience and purchased a cotton sleep shirt, that was 9.99 us dollars. Catholic cathedral
Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, consecrated as a parish church in 1848, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Charlotte Amalie. The interior features 11 murals depicting biblical scenes painted by Belgian artists in 1899, while marble additions were made in the 1960s. Despite undergoing restoration after a hurricane, it now welcomes daily services and visitors. The cathedral's beauty is evident through its stained glass windows, wooden pews, elegant altar and pulpit.
I love attending mass at this beautiful, historic Cathedral anytime I’m visiting St. Thomas. The congregation is warm and welcoming. The priest is excellent. I didn’t get to stay long after mass, but it appears there are several relics on display: relics from St. Ursula, (patroness of the Virgin Islands) St. Anne, and St. Teresa of Avila. I am curious to know more about the history of the church itself as it recently celebrated its 250 year anniversary in June 2024. Parking in the area seems limited (I was dropped off right outside the entrance), so something to consider if you’re driving.

Had mass at this beautiful cathedral ! Priest’s homily was very stimulating.
Charles D — Google review
What a beautiful cathedral! We’re in St. Thomas for a short stay and we participated innthe Saturday evening Vigil Mass for Palm Sunday. Unfortunately, they started with the blessing of the palms before Mass and we arrived in the middle of that part of the Mass. Mass was very nice. No musical instruments were available, so some of the locals led the hymns. That was nice! The cathedral is so beautiful, the online pictures do not do it justice. It’s smaller than you think when looking at the pictures, but we found that to be a good thing, the smallness gave a feeling of intimacy to the Mass, which was wonderful. At the end of the Mass, during the announcements, we were asked to, and did, stand up to be recognized as “visitors,” and were warmly greeted by all. Very friendly folks in the parish! We briefly spoke with Fr. Marcel after Mass, he approached us as the identified “visitors.” LOL He is a very dedicated priest, loves the parish, and said he feels the love from the members of the parish. I’ll attach a bunch of pictures to this review, with the caveat that the cathedral is so much more beautiful in person. Stop by for a visit when you’re in STT, all are welcome. We look forward to participating in the Mass here again. Highly recommend Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral!

Palm Passage is a charming open-air courtyard with a covered central bar, offering a classy experience and high-end shopping. It resembles a Moroccan market, connecting Veterans Drive to Store Gade and featuring duty-free shopping with potential bargains through negotiation. Visitors should be cautious of pickpockets but can feel secure due to plainclothes security personnel when cruise ships are docked.
Take a step back in time to the age of bartering and the atmosphere of a Caribbean market place. The narrow alley is filled with small shops and cafes. Anything you see will have a price, but you can often 'negotiate' a better deal.

These beautiful passages remind you of a Moroccan Market place and link Veterans Drive to Store Gade. The stores tout duty and tax free shopping and some do offer deals but wise bartering and a bit of frugality can yield some great bargains. Be wary of pick pockets. When the cruise ships are in dock, there are scores of plain clothes security persons walking the streets keeping everyone safe. The store owners are a bit aggressive and not everything that glitters is gold and real diamonds

Bluebeard's Castle is a 17th-century building that has been transformed into a hotel, offering vibrant rooms with kitchenettes and balconies that provide stunning views of the harbor. The hotel is located near Charlotte Amalie, where you can find various dining options ranging from high-end restaurants to casual bars. One such bar, tucked behind Bluebeard's Castle, offers a quiet escape with panoramic views of the harbor.
This was our first time staying the hotel/resort. The harbor view from the roof top deck and our balcony was stunning! At night the lights in the harbor and the mountainside was lovely. The hotel staff were friendly and more than willing to offer suggestions for restaurants and activities. We did a fishing charter and caught a ton of fish which can be prepared at Bluebeards. We did an underwater helmet dive in addition to beach time and sightseeing. The ferry excursion to St. John was worth the trip. Very steep roads but beautiful beaches, deer and donkeys plus a nice shopping area in Cruz Bay were enjoyable. The resort is nicely maintained although some sections are still being renovated from past storm/ hurricane damage. Our studio room was very clean, updated, the main bed was very comfortable and so was the pull out couch. The bathroom was very clean, nice shower and water pressure and the kitchen area had plates, utensils etc, a functioning 2 burner electric stove, small fridge and sink. The table and chairs were modern and comfortable. The lobby and grounds were clean and well maintained. The food at the capital grill and sunny side cafe restaurants was delicious! We had the Philly cheese steak and fries and seafood pasta, a salmon dish, chocolate chip pancakes and omelettes and the portion sizes were very large. The pool is clean and quite small, so don’t expect to do laps. The tour into charlotte Amalie was enjoyable and the tour guide was nice and friendly. The only downsides were getting used to the steep hills on both Islands and the road coming up the hill to the resort. It was also hard to find the entrance from the back road. We would have liked it if the bands were available more often. It is a small resort but perfect for relaxation and reasonably priced for the island. We will definitely come back again!

Wonderful Family Stay! Castle Villas at Bluebeard’s was the perfect vacation getaway. Beautiful views, clean and spacious villa, and friendly staff. Peaceful location close to beaches and town. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Everything you needed the villa was equipped. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay quick, the hotel we originally booked turned out to be a scam. We were going to be homeless with our suitcases for the weekend. We saw an opening at bluebeards castle and immediately booked it. Upon arrival, everyone was really nice and polite and professional, the manager, Claudette and the front desk gentleman Shaun, were the nicest most helpful people we’ve met. Claudette arranged somehow for us to stay our whole trip here, we had to move one of the nights but we didn’t mind, we were so happy to have a place to stay! Not only were the rooms big and beautiful and clean, and WELL air conditioned, but the view from any room you stay in was beautiful. Now they have a nice clean pool that’s open until midnight and they have a bar are where you can eat breakfast and lunch with Jay and Lisa who were also phenomenal! Great people, the most delicious food, great vibes. And the dinner? Such flavorful food, helpful staff, even in busy times. Everything about this place was wonderful. Even though we didn’t originally books with them, we will definitely be coming back on our next trip! What a turn around our trip has been because of them!

You're definitely on island time! This place had very nice rooms. You can exchange towels when you need them by putting them in your blue bag. That's under the bathroom sink and putting them outside your door and letting them know what you need. They'll bring it. I was there off-season, so not everything was up and running. The views are spectacular. You're very close to the downtown. If you need to walk somewhere, just know that it will be an extreme incline.

We stayed in the frigrate building Suite 422. The views are beautiful from here. It’s a lot. You have washer and dryer refrigerator microwave utensils everything you need. It’s clean. The only suggestion is the shower should be a handheld shower because the rain shower was not coming out correctly other than that everything was perfect.

Had an AMAZING stay here at Bluebeard’s! The view is gorgeous all around, from our room, the pool, anywhere in the castle has an amazing view of the island and ocean. The staff is very friendly, even the workers doing lawn maintenance, and they are very accommodating and are on top of it when it comes to needing new towels and linens. I also like the history that comes with the place 10/10 recommend👌🏼

Such a beautiful location. The views alone are stunning as it overlooks most of the island. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We can’t wait to come back!

Located at the beginning of Main Street on the East Side, the Sugar Estate US Post Office is a prominent building that stands out. It offers a convenient location for sending and receiving mail while also providing an opportunity to take in the surrounding sights.
While working, I enjoyed the sites...

It's looks like there is a problem with delivery drivers. Why I can't get my package for two days and it says out for delivery. I'm going to see what you going to tell me Today. Everything is a third world process even the mail. Why don't t you keep regular drivers where they are experienced; this switching up not good. If you can help It. I keep seeing fournew drivers for the last four months. There has to be a problem.
Arlean Y — Google review
The ONLY reason this location got two stars was because of Alice the supervisor who handled my situation. It took 13 THIRTEEN calls and an in person visit giving all the information. The lack of respect and concern is completely unheard of. Training is needed at this location.

I know they're trying, but the customer service can be a hot mess. I can't believe that I received a final notice (FN) on Saturday for a package that was sent 1/30/23. If I'm not mistaken, you have 10 days. Plus, I went to the box on Saturday and took all the slips out of the box (but they were already closed). The FN wasn't there. Meaning, they placed it in the box after the fact. Then I found out that the FN online is "computer generated." The FN date online was showing pick up before February 13th. I asked the representative for an explanation, and all she kept saying was, "It's computer generated." Which means they don't follow the date in the system or the 10 day rule (the rule, a representative told me about, so I didn't make it up). With the increase in price, I need better customer service.

Terrible ,Words can't explain just how stupid these ppl operate, down there just keeps getting worse, p.s get drivers that know the island!!

Hotel 1829 is a hotel in the city center with a restaurant and bar. It's perfect for visitors who want to be in the heart of the action. The rooms are comfortable and modern, and there's plenty of space to relax or get some work done. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they're always happy to help you find what you're looking for.
We visited Hotel 1829’s bar only as we were staying at their other location, At Home in the Tropics. The bar was a welcoming place, with a bartender who was skilled at making cocktails and at conversational skills, as well. Jess, the owner, gave us a tour of the hotel, and it is stunning! I can’t wait to stay there next time. The rooms are exquisitely designed and decorated. From the hand painted tiles, hand stenciled walls, the details in each room to complement the historical features, are amazing. The pool and gardens are gorgeous, and the history in the Tiffany stain glass to the frames photographs with bios gives you a sense of the grandness in this historically majestic space.

I visit St. Thomas every year and typically stay at At Home in the Tropics. This year, I stayed at Hotel 1829. As a lover of old buildings, I am so happy to see this grand hotel restored to it's former glory. The owners have taken a lot of care to keep the historical details of this hotel and to honor the huge place it's held in St. Thomas history. During my stay, I came across many locals who were so happy to hear it was finally reopened. The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The room gets very dark at night (which I loved) and the balcony is a nice spot to spend the morning. And the showers! I'm obsessed with how amazing that shower was. The bar and restaurant are very nice and so convenient being right downstairs. Plus it's the oldest bar on St. Thomas! They have a nice garden as well as a pool. Definitely recommend a stay here. I plan to come back for New Years and stay here again.

OMG!!! This place is so amazing. This is authentic St Thomas of yesteryear. Everything is so beautifully restored. The rooms are excellently appointed and also with modern comfortable beds and fabulous bathrooms. Outstanding interior design. This is definitely the best in St Thomas history and the best most interesting stay on the island.

We (6 friends and I) didn't stay at Hotel 1829, but we stopped by as we were exploring Charlotte Amalie, and we are incredibly glad that we did so. The owner overheard us reading about Hotel 1829 in our guidebook and kindly introduced himself, then introduced us to a member of his staff who was incredibly well-versed in the history of both the hotel and of Charlotte Amalie. In fact, she took the time to give us an engaging 30 minute overview of the history, answering all our questions and showing us authentic artifacts, in addition to recommending a great lunch spot popular with locals. The owner let us check out the gardens and take a look at the bar, even though it wasn't open until that afternoon. We were awed by their hospitality to folks who weren't even staying at their hotel, and we definitely plan to stay at Hotel 1829 if we visit St. Thomas again!

Loved Hotel 1829! Very historic and we had two king rooms with balconies overlooking the harbor - fantastic. Sunday brunch is amazing and the bar is well stocked with rum!

What a wonderful experience. A mom and pop hotel with so much love and charm. The owners are exceptional people. Bought it after Hurricane Irma and are restoring it to perfection! So much authenticity!

We have been on this island a month when we spotted this hotel, thought it was beautiful and considered booking a week, so we went to visit in hopes of just taking a look. So we parked and climbed the million stairs it takes to get up there. The woman who worked there acted like we were an inconvenience and didn't want to be bothered. We asked to take a look around. She wouldn't show us anything. There is a hand-written sign outside the hotel that said ROOMS AVAILABLE, but the woman said, "sorry, no rooms available." Sound familiar? We got the hint. And naturally we won't be staying there, and don't recommend anyone else do either. We cannot believe people still act like this, especially on an island as diverse as St. Thomas.

My husband and I recently stayed here and it was amazing! The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable! The bar was also great! From check in to check out I would absolutely recommend staying at this hotel! So much history and walking distance to shops and live music!
