Beerenberg Farm, located in Hahndorf, is a family-owned attraction that offers the opportunity to pick fresh strawberries from November to April. Visitors can enjoy the experience of hand-picking their own sweet strawberries for a small entry fee. The farm also features traditional crops such as sweet corn and mixed vegetables.
The environment is really comfortable and welcoming. The food is amazing. I ordered a big brekkie and it is worth every penny. It can feed two people easily in my opinion. It is 1000% worth it to buy any jam, it has an incredible flavour. The strawberry chocolate is so good, as a strawberry fan I highly recommend. Toilets very clean and aesthetic. Plenty of parking. Staff is very friendly. I would love to come back during strawberry harvesting season.

Very good place to stop whilst in Handorf. Strawberry picking available when in season. In the shop there is a cafe available serving drinks and food. In the shop there is a wide range of jams and other products available, for reasonable prices. Well worth a stop. Good sized car park outside.
Christine B — Google review
Strawberry picking was absolutely amazing especially with the kids. By far the sweetest juiciest strawberries I’ve ever eaten (eating straight after picking it was the best). Definitely worth going when it’s the season and be ready for a long day out of walking too!
Ashrit K — Google review
The restaurant crowded of people. The menu selection is quite simple and specialist. Seperate into 2 section. The meal area consist ice cream order. The shop area sell variety of products. Order do it in the counter and remember to tell your table number. Food and drink will be deliver to table. The lamb pie, smokey, bacon & eggs is good. Free flow of water is self service, get the cup and bottle of water from the counter.

Beerenberg Family Farm is a great spot for a day out. The strawberry picking is fun. After picking, the farm shop is well worth a visit. I did a lot of shopping there and stocked up on their fresh jams and local products, all excellent in quality. The place is very well run and the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s a simple, enjoyable experience that feels genuine and well cared for. A great place to relax, pick strawberries, and take home something delicious.

strawberry picking in beerenberg farm fun day hahaha you can do strawberry picking here but only during Nov to Apr, honestly the ticket is very valuable you can visit strawberry farm and taste a bit, but sadly the strawberry not sweet at all…still a funny experience in hahndorf they have a cafe shop insides with some green plants hanging, quite good environment and the shop next too only bad thing today is keep raining in between we have to stay under the tree to cover ourselves lolll hahaha Beerenberg farm rating of mine: 4.3

Nice relaxing walk from Hahndorf Inn, saw some cows. Strawberry picking not yet started, so we had ice cream & cookies, & browsed at the shop.
MJ F — Google review
The new barn is modern and high-end, and I found the mini museum quite interesting. Although the strawberry patch was closed today, the café was still bustling with people. As part of our mystery trail experience, we collected our meal base and had a quick browse through the shop before leaving. If we hadn’t already had lunch, this would’ve been a lovely spot for a meal—perfect for brunch or lunch in the Adelaide Hills. That said, I feel like Beerenberg Farm has lost some of the charm and personal touches that used to make it such a special place. Little things, like being personally greeted by staff, seem to be missing now.

Located in Adelaide, the Udder Delights Cheese Cellar is a must-visit destination for cheese enthusiasts. Established by the Dunford family in 1999, this cheese haven offers a wide array of cheeses and hosts cheese masterclasses. Visitors can also indulge in cheese tastings and enjoy cheese platters in the charming courtyard. Additionally, Udder Delights is known for creating unique cheese wedding cakes.
My partner and I, decided to have lunch at Udder Delights Cheese Cellar today. We rated it a 5/5 for overall service, food and atmosphere. A big 'shout out' to Michael (Restaurant Manager), who went above and beyond to help assist us with organising and booking a room for my partner's upcoming birthday. We're looking forward to return soon to try one of their delicious pizza's.

Recently bought your truffle brie and loved it. 180g I believe you should speak to your label makers. Trying to get the labels of the wrap was a task and a half. The glue is to strong and causes the label to peel awkwardly. (the laminates on the labels peel apart). Otherwise well done!

Great ice coffee. This is the first time that I want to buy another one to go after having it. Great atmosphere and welcoming service. Great location to sit back, have the cheese platter and watching people and the traffic go by. I think it’s a must try when you are in town.

An hidden gem of the hills. This magic place offers the best beer in the surrounding area, with a good selection of cheeses and food. The service of Rob was outstanding, he introduces us to the company and the products, explaining about the missing and the history. Congratulations guys. Cheers

Had a great time with our family at Udder Delights Cheese Cellar, first we enjoyed a selection of free cheese tastings where the guy explained each cheese, its flavour and style. We then headed down stairs and sat down to a cheese tasting board as well as a preserved meat and pate selection plate, each was served with two hot crusty bread loafs and butter all together bloody tasty. Definitely recommend!

Lots of local and imported cheese options and other treats as well. Built in coffee shop. Bacon Jam, crackers, cheese, sweet treats, dips and everything that you could want. Staff and friendly and know their products. Can tell why this is popular in Hahndorf. Don't go past it, go in!

Cheese, fresh baked bread and terrific coffee how perfect. Fresh baked bread was such a lovely surprise. Staff super friendly and love their cheese. Try the samples and stay for lunch or a snack. Recommend the platters!! Reasonably priced too given the quantity of cheese you get in the platters.

Absolutely fantastic cheese shop. Delicious range of cheeses, loved the goat (chevre)? Ploughmans board is sufficient for probably 3 people. Reasonably priced. Iced coffee is great. Service is prompt, Friendly & efficient. Staff are fantastic. Highly recommend to visit for a relaxing afternoon, or if you must stop at only 1 place in Hahndorf, stop here. We will be back!

Somerled Wines, a charming family-owned winery located at the beginning of Main Street in Hahndorf, offers a delightful wine experience. The cellar bar provides a cozy setting to enjoy their wines and platters while watching the picturesque streets of Hahndorf. You can also book a private group tasting and relax by the open fire.
My partner and I really enjoyed our wine tasting at Somerled nestled in a cozy and quaint space, where the lady who served us was really passionate, lovely and kind. The wines were also good and interesting. Thank you!
Liana H — Google review
Somerled Wines is another of those must-do things to do in Hahndorf. A great opportunity to sample some local Adelaide Hills wine, while stopping in the beautiful town for a few hours too. The location is really pretty and so is the Cellar Bar itself. You enter off the high street through a wisteria arch and gorgeous front garden courtyard into the Cellar Bar. Here you find a really tranquil, warm show room with small circular, white clothed tables and seats. A wood burning fire keeps the whole room snug and toasty. The atmosphere was very quiet with some guests by themselves, reading a book or absorbing the moment. I could well have been in a library cafe instead of a cellar bar :) My wife ordered a $30, three-wine sample tasting of reds, which was mostly for my pleasure. And I'm not sure I was really in the mood for it, as I literally sipped, sampled and left three quarters of the wine in the glasses. But the whole experience was fun, tremendously relaxing and I'm glad I did it.
The C — Google review
Somerled Wines was an excellent stop for our day at the Hahndorf village. We didn't plan to have a wine tasting on the day and decided to walk in and Clinton was more then accommodating. We went through almost the entire flight of available wines and were impressed by both Clinton's knowledge and hospitality. Personally I felt a little bad about not being able to purchase any wines on the day (as we had gone a little crazy on purchasing wines the day before) but Somerset Wines is on our 'reserve list' for future purchases! Strongly recommend to try the Sparkling Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc!!
Kevin — Google review
The Winter reds event was a disappointment. The venue is nice but it was cramped, the staff were very confused and the food was incredibly overpriced and dull. An $18 chicken burger was dry and tiny with nothing on the side. The $18 arancini balls (thankfully 2) were ping pong sized served in a paper bowl. We inquired about some chocolate coated almonds and were told they were $12 for a small bowl. It seemed like the event was a money making exercise.

The tables and chairs in the front garden quickly captured our interest, and before we knew it, we found ourselves comfortably settled in. Our group shared a couple of bottles of wine and indulged in the delicious gluten-free cheese puffs and cacciatore sausage with manchego cheese, which were absolutely delightful. The staff mades us feel very welcome with their genuine and friendly hospitality. It was such a great experience that we decided to return the following afternoon!

Afternoon of wine tasting in a lovely setting. We were very well looked after by Lucy and team. Fabulous wine and really tasty nibbles. Recommend the Shriaz and French plate combo. Joined the club and will be back.

We really enjoyed our stop at Somerled. Karen was very attentive and friendly. She was very knowledgeable about wines and made us feel very welcome (even though they were very busy) The place is very cute and fits the whole ambiance of Hahndorf. The wines were delicious. The sparkling shiraz is not to miss. Overall, somerled is a great spot for a date or a quick bite accompanied with quality SA wines

Delicious afternoon of wine tasting. Clinton was a lovely host who didn’t mind that I don’t partake in alcohol drinks. Nonetheless he explained and offered water with no bother. Summary: Very warm welcome both from our host and the decor. Delicious wine

Nestled in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, Sidewood Estate Restaurant offers a delightful experience for visitors. Surrounded by eucalyptus and landscaped gardens, this family-run winery is just a short drive from Hahndorf Village. The restaurant provides a cozy atmosphere with a crackling fireplace, making it an ideal spot to savor flavorful meals paired with their award-winning wine selection. Guests can also admire eclectic Australian artwork displayed throughout the venue.
Our group of six adults and one child visited here for a Saturday lunch, and from start to finish, it was a delightful dining experience. We had made a reservation in advance, which was a smart move as the place was bustling yet well-organized. To start, we shared the warm garlic focaccia with caramelised onion butter — a standout beginning with its rich, buttery flavor and perfectly baked bread. For mains, three of us opted for the 350gm Butcher Cut Wagyu steak, which was beautifully cooked and packed with flavor. One adult had the braised beef short rib, which was tender and satisfying, while two others enjoyed the fish of the day — fried barramundi, cooked to perfection with a side of delicious charred cabbage that added a lovely smoky element. The child had the popcorn chicken with chips, a reliable favorite, though we were slightly disappointed that it was served last, after all the adult meals. Ideally, children’s meals should arrive first. We also shared a couple of sides: roasted potatoes and a winter salad, both fresh and well-seasoned, complementing the mains nicely. Our drinks included a refreshing cider, a lovely glass of Sidewood Estate “Mad Cat” Rosé, as well as espresso and lemongrass/ginger tea to finish. Overall, the food was excellent, the ambience was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. The only area for improvement would be the timing of the kid’s meal — a small but notable detail in an otherwise flawless experience.

Delicious food and warm atmosphere, kids can play outside at the playground while waiting for food, plenty of outdoor area to enjoy. Our server Stella was very helpful, she goes beyond to find us warm water and chilly paste as requested by our guests. So glad to find a restaurant with great food and environment, not as crowded as those in Hahndorf, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! We will not hesitate to bring our visiting friends and family to Sidewood again.
Wing W — Google review
Sareena gave us a very friendly and informative wine tasting. Her bubbly personality and passion for wine added to our experience. Our wines were taken to the restaurant where we were having lunch. When we collected them, we were thrilled with the gift she had left in the bag for my husband's birthday. Such a kind gesture. Restaurant staff were very friendly and attentive and the pizza was superb. Thank you

I’ve been to Sidewood multiple times and it’s always a great experience. The food is consistently good — the standout for me this time was the steak, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The prawn curry was decent, although it wasn’t quite what I expected — it was a very small portion and didn’t feel like a true curry dish. Overall, I highly recommend Sidewood. The service is excellent every time, and it’s a great spot for a relaxed and enjoyable meal.
Amin J — Google review
The menu looked good but the wait staff looked very young and inexperienced. All glassware on the table was dirty and covered in water spots. Starters were brought to the table and we had to ask for side plates to share them on. Our steaks ($38) arrived cold, but flavour-wise they were beautiful. We were barely spoken to. I understand young wait staff are cheaper on a Saturday, but please teach them how to serve tables.
Ella W — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We did the tasting masterclass at Sidewood Estate yesterday, and it completely exceeded our expectations. Our session was led by Hugh, one of the winemakers, and he was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge, warmth, and passion for his craft were next level — you could feel how much he truly loves what he does. He made everyone feel welcome, explained everything in such an engaging way, and his enthusiasm was contagious. It wasn’t just a wine tasting, it was an experience that made us appreciate the art of winemaking on a whole new level. Hugh is an absolute credit to Sidewood. I can’t recommend him or this experience highly enough.
Kate T — Google review
Service was extremely slow and inconsistent. We waited almost 30 minutes for the server to get me the beer I ordered. The server was apologetic but continued to make the same mistakes. Our table of 3 all ordered the 3 course meal. It was not communicated to our table that this was a share food experience. The food was ok but when they only brought out 2 plates of the steak they didn't provide plates for us to use. The salad which was supposed to be served with the meal came out almost 15 minutes after the steaks arrived. We advised the server of our concerns and it took them almost 30 minutes to clarify the issue and acknowledge our concerns of miss communication and poor service. This was the same as the dessert which was also served on 2 plates with the expectation of sharing. They offered an apology and a free tasting paddle which was appreciated. However, by this point we were already disappointed with the service and not enjoying the food and wanted to leave. In summary, I would not recommend Sidewood Estate Restaurant as a dine in experience given my experience there. The atmosphere was nice and could see it being enjoyable however, our table could not see past the service experience.
Joshua ( — Google review
An unforgettable save by Matthew and the team! We booked a luxury day bed for 5 among the stunning gardens and bocce grounds, excited for the full Sidewood dining experience. On arrival, we were initially told the day-bed area only served pizzas and focaccias — a surprise, as nothing in the online booking mentioned this limitation. Disappointed, we prepared to leave for lunch elsewhere. That’s when Matthew, the restaurant manager, stepped in. He listened, apologised, and made it happen. Within minutes, he rearranged seating, welcomed us into the main restaurant, and started us with complimentary drinks of our choice. No fuss, just genuine care. The service from there was flawless — warm, attentive, and full of heart. The food was sublime: cloud-like focaccia with velvety herbed butter, beautifully executed mains, and desserts that elevated our taste buds to the next level. The ambience in the restaurant was perfect; we felt truly special. Matthew didn’t just fix a booking mix-up — he turned disappointment into one of our best dining experiences ever. His leadership under pressure was outstanding. We’ll be back, without question. Thank you, Matt, and the entire Sidewood team. Highly recommend — book the restaurant if you want the full menu!

Guests have praised the warm and accommodating service, recommending making reservations in advance due to its popularity. While the winery does not serve food, visitors are welcome to bring their own or purchase from nearby markets.
Really nice place, great ambient, friendly staff and Wow! wines are absolutely amazing!. Delicious Italian varieties, personally couldn't recomend more the sangi and Nero d'avola if you're into reds or Fiano and pinot grigio if white is your cuppa.

Sam's Ultra ego range La Prova sees him delve into some of the rarer grape varieties . My favourite is the Sangiovese. Rustic and deliciously savoury with underlying gorgeous dark fruit flavours and hint of spicy oak.. smash it all day long

My friend and I were at the Easter Markets and decided to stop in for a platter and wine. They advised the platter was not available because of the weekend but we were more than welcome to bring food from the markets to the restaurant. The wine tasting was one of the best we have tried in Adelaide! Liam was great and very engaging and friendly. Would highly recommend stopping here for something more intimate and they have fantastic wines!
Rebecca M — Google review
Been here a couple times now, it’s a cute little intimate spot. Staff are extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Delicious wines - a favourite for sure.
Chloe C — Google review
La Prova was probably my best experience in South Australia - and to think we stumbled upon it on accident! We were traveling from Melbourne to South Australia and were recommended it when in Adelaide. Visiting Hahndorf - and not thinking anything of it - we passed by and luckily enough they were open! (They are only opened the first weekend of the month.) We went in and despite not having a booking, we were sat and accommodated perfectly. I really suggest booking as the place was full! The decor was cute and I felt cozy the moment I walked in. They were making hand-made pizzas that looked amazing but we were too full so just opted for the basic tasting with some chèvre cheese and crackers. We all ordered a wine flight of red Italian wines and every wine was different from one another and delicious. Many times reds can start tasting similar in a tasting but every wine stood out from one another. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We were sat at a long "family style" shared table and had a great conversation with the people sat with us. It was a really special afternoon and I would recommend this place to anybody stopping in Hahndorf or even the Adelaide Hills area in general. Well worth it! It's a hidden gem.
J.C. D — Google review
I have visited with my friends twice in the last 2 years and both times it has been great! The wine is fantastic! The service is excellent! The people are lovely and knowledgeable! I cannot fault our visit. We will be back without question.

Don’t let the photos fool you. Was expecting a nice decent sized fairy garden but this was not it. Very disappointed :( didn’t look like much or like it was cared for. The garden part in my photos are basically it. There’s a small shop there too where you can buy fairy and unicorn related items but there’s not too much there at all. Went with kids of various ages and they had their grump faces when they realised that was all there was to it.

The Haus Restaurant in Hahndorf, located at the heart of the Adelaide Hills, offers a lively and rustic-chic dining experience. With a patio for al fresco dining, this spot serves up German specialties, breakfast options, and pizzas alongside an extensive selection of wines. The restaurant prides itself on showcasing an impressive array of dishes crafted from locally sourced produce.
We always enjoy having our lunch at The Haus Restaurant every time we have a day at Hahndorf. The service and food are always great. We took our dog this time and we could also order some doggy biscuits for our fur baby. The staff was very kind to provide clean water for our dog without asking. I think this is the restaurant everyone has to try at least once when you are there. Maybe book before you go. They are very busy.

The Haus Restaurant – ★★★★☆ Wow! 😍 The Pumpkin Salad alone deserves five stars! 🎃🥗 So tender, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor, absolutely delicious! What we loved: • Perfectly cooked pumpkin—soft, tender, and flavorful 🎃✨ • Fresh, vibrant ingredients that complement each other beautifully 🥗💛 • Cozy, welcoming atmosphere 🍴😊 What we tried: • Trio of Wurst 🌭🌭🌭: three popular German sausages, packed with medium flavor and perfectly cooked Tip: Don’t miss the pumpkin salad, it’s a must-try! 🌟😋💛 Thank you 😊

Haus has been my go-to in Hahndorf for nearly a decade. While I still enjoy it, the quality has dropped a little over time - some meals arrive cold, the fish and chips portions vary, and certain dishes lack flavour. I usually stick with the chicken schnitzel (sometimes the mushroom sauce is a bit greasy), as many other options feel a bit hit or miss. It’d be great to see more beef sausage options too, for those who don’t eat pork. That said, their desserts and pizzas are decent! I’ve added photos from different visits

Hahndorf Inn is a charming German restaurant housed in a historic two-story 1863 hotel with exposed stone walls and a wood-paneled ceiling. The restaurant offers hearty German cuisine, creating an inviting atmosphere for diners. With free wifi and outdoor seating available, it's an ideal spot to enjoy traditional German dishes such as pork neck and sausages.
We had been to Hahndorf Village during Good Friday 2025. Beautiful township, but too full of tourists on the day due to Easter holidays and a nightmare in terms of parking space. After 20 mins, we managed to find a street parking and then set off to walk around the village on foot. With a few mins, we realised that whatever we saw of the village and fall colours (which is a big selling point of tourism here) while driving around was the best approach to see the village in the otherwise crowded town on that day. Soon we gave up walking and hit the Hahndorf Inn, which was in my list of place to eat and drink the craft German beers. I ordered the beer paddle to taste the produce of their brewery, got the Fest, Helles, Hefe, Berliner, and Dunkel. The Berliner was a new type of beer I tasted, quite like the raspberry after taste but settled on the Hefe. Ordered the schnitzel, hotdog and fish and chips as mains and affogato dessert. Even though the restaurant was packed to capacity, the food came in fairly quick within 20 mins. The food served had big portions of food and chips, and the price was reasonable (I am from Sydney, everything looks reasonable in comparison!) with an extra surcharge for Easter. The beers tasted divine with the food, so got me an extra 6 pack of hefes to-go. The service staff were busy but were not being impolite of hurrying the customers, had a smile on them showing that they loved the crowd. Overall a great place and def recommended for dine in and the craft German beers they make in the German township of Hahndorf.

Food was great however the service was slow but friendly. The atmosphere was nice but was really looking for a more authentic German feeling to create some ambience with the food. We heard the German music coming from another venue which made us wish we went there :( To be fair though, the restaurant was very nice and clean and if I were the staff there, listening to German music every shift would be like being stuck listening to Christmas carols and it was during winter in the off season so it wasn't terribly busy.

Enjoyed the meal with German vibes. The menu had a wide selection of German specialties including German Bier. 🙂 We ordered The Hahndorf Inn Deluxe to get a taste of a bit of everything. I think it’s a good size to share between four people, with the six of us, we added extra pretzels and a Sausage Board. 🙂 The highlight was the Pork Hock. Crispy skin and tender meat was satisfying. Other meat on the plate was fine, nothing to rave about. 😗 The Sausage board was a bit underwhelming since the sausages were all boiled, they tasted quite bland and boring. 😏 I still recommend this place because of the great vibes and great service. Pork Hock and chargrilled sausages is the way to go. 😌

I was excited to attend here as I like beer especially if brewed locally, and I was looking forward to some German style food. Unfortunately our experience was average at best. The service was poor with staff difficult to get a hold of; at times it looked like they were actively avoiding eye contact whilst doing busy work it was a mission to even get a takeaway container. Worse still, the facilities are poor - I am male and wished to change my child's nappy, only to be informed that the only change table is in the female bathroom - extremely backwards and restrictive - and it appears there was no disabled bathroom. The food came out pretty quickly and was good, with huge portion sizes meaning we filled up and had leftovers. The pork was quite good with good crackling. I'd like to return but perhaps I'll attend a different venue in Hahndorf next time.

The food is tasty and quite enjoyable. However, the dining experience could be improved: the plates were oily, and at lunchtime there was no staff to greet or guide guests, so you had to find a seat yourself. Many tables were left uncleared after previous customers, and the suitable seats that remained still had water on them. Drinking water and cups also needed to be taken by the customers themselves. Overall, the dishes are worth recommending, but with more attention to service and cleanliness, the experience could be much better.

Had a lovely dinner with friends and we were tucked away in a little nook that made it feel like we had our own private space. It was pretty quiet when we arrived and didn't get very full but the other side was busy. The pretzels were absolute perfection. I think we could have eaten them all night. My schnitzel was huge and the mushroom sauce was delicious. The staff were lovely and helpful and we had a fantastic time.

Took the bus out here while on holiday and found this place for lunch. A couple of guys on piano accordions lured us stop and listen and the menu and free table at lunch time were just what we needed. Great food and beverages, friendly staff and musical entertainment. Definitely worthwhile checking the place out if you are here.

Had a fantastic German lunch here with the fam with big appetites. Crispy pork knuckle variety of wursts mash sauerkraut & gravy. Icy Cold beer & paddles to try a variety of German beers. Friendly staff & helpful regarding choice of beers. The outdoor seating was beautiful under the vines.

Dine in during our visit to Handorf. Good atmosphere with quite a crowd on a Thursday afternoon. The food portion was big. Oysters were fresh. We ordered pork knuckles for sharing. Love the fries from fish and chips. Overall a nice place to stop for a meal.

I had an excellent experience at the German Arms Hotel Restaurant. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Hahndorf, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal while exploring the area. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, with a wide range of dishes to choose from — from hearty German classics to lighter options. Every dish was fresh, generous in portion, and full of flavour. The interior is warm and inviting, combining modern comfort with a traditional German pub feel. It creates a great atmosphere for both casual meals and special occasions. Of course, the beer selection is outstanding, with plenty of choices to pair perfectly with the food. The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend the German Arms Hotel if you’re after great food, excellent beer, and a welcoming atmosphere in a beautiful location. I’ll definitely be back!

The German Arms Hotel is a fantastic spot in Hahndorf and absolutely worth a visit. The building itself is full of charm, with its mix of history and modern touches, and it sets the perfect atmosphere for a hearty meal or a drink with friends. The food is excellent — big portions, full of flavour, and exactly what you’d hope for from a German pub. The schnitzels are a must-try, perfectly cooked and served with generous sides, and the range of German-inspired dishes makes it easy to find something you’ll love. Pairing the food with one of their beers on tap is the perfect combination. The drinks list is impressive, with a great selection of both local and German beers, plus wines and cocktails if that’s more your style. Everything feels well thought out and designed to suit the hearty meals they serve. The service was friendly and efficient, even though the place was busy. Staff were welcoming and made sure everything came out quickly without ever feeling rushed. It’s the kind of genuine hospitality that makes you want to come back. The atmosphere is lively and fun, with a great mix of locals and visitors enjoying themselves. It’s a great place for families, groups, or couples — there’s a bit of something for everyone. Overall, the German Arms Hotel is one of those places that nails it on all fronts: delicious food, great drinks, friendly service, and a warm atmosphere. A perfect stop when you’re in Hahndorf.

I really love this pub - it’s got a great atmosphere and a warm, welcoming feel. After a cold and rainy visit to The Farm Barn up the road, we took the opportunity to wrap up the day with an early dinner here (cold, wet, and over being stalked by goats). The menu is huge - there’s something for everyone - including plenty of options for those craving traditional German fare…or just surviving parenting with a plate of chips. The portion sizes are generous, so don’t be surprised if you end up asking for a takeaway container. On this visit, while the food looked fantastic on the plate, it was let down a little by a lack of seasoning and depth of flavour. Our pretzel and chips were also a bit overdone. That said, we’ll definitely be back - because we really do love it here!

Exceptional place for food, drinks and soaking in the local environment. - Staff were very efficient and knowledgeable of their products. - Food service was surprisingly quick. - Meals were delicious and value for money with portion sizes. Note: this is a busy establishment but staff were excellent at finding a place to sit and very efficient table at service. I highly recommend this place if you want to experience Hahndorf and the German culture.

We had lunch here today. Although the place was packed, the staff was incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic. We were able to order quickly, and our food was served in only about ten minutes. While the food wasn't mind-blowing, it was certainly good enough. The menu offered dishes in the $20+ range, and our bill for two, including drinks, was $54.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The German Arms Hotel – Hahndorf 🇩🇪🍻 Had the $39 dinner buffet and it was absolutely worth it! The prawns were fresh and full of flavour 🍤, the bread was soft and warm 🥖, and the sausages were rich, juicy, and packed with that authentic German taste 🌭🔥. Booked online using my RAA membership discount, which made it even better value 💵👏. The atmosphere was warm, lively, and welcoming — classic Adelaide Hills charm at its best 🌿. Staff were friendly and professional, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend for anyone looking for hearty food, good value, and a genuine Hills dining experience 😋🙌.

We had the Ham Cheese Tomatoe Croissant and the Salmon and Spinach Omellete. The pastry on the Croissant was so fresh and lovely and the filling was just the right amount. It was very fresh and just the right amount for a nice brunch. The Salmon and Spinach Omellete tasted great as well and it had a nice texture to it and a good amount of salmon included. We also had the Berry fruit drink which tasted lovely and refreshing. Nice feel to it inside here and has a nice atmosphere. Service was pretty efficient as well considering how busy they got.

The menu didn’t mention that the American Ribs were pork, and as Muslims, we cannot eat it. We notified the waiter just minutes after ordering, but the manager still proceeded to prepare it and refused to cancel or refund. Instead, they gave it to us in a takeaway box with no regard for our concerns. It was a very disrespectful and disappointing experience.

Food and service were good. We got 2 coffees with our breakfast. I thought mine was really good but my friend said theirs was not good. I got another coffee take away and the taste was horrible. I don't understand how from one coffee to the next the taste could be so night and day. Both were cappuccino, both were nice and hot and strong. One flavour good, one flavour bad. Different machines, different ground coffee batches, different barrista's?

Our family recently visited this restaurant and sampled a variety of dishes, all of which were delicious. However, the service left much to be desired. There were several mishaps, including bringing us orders intended for other tables before realizing the mistake. Additionally, a broken salt shaker resulted in an excessive amount of salt being spilled onto one of our meals, necessitating cleanup with a napkin. The waitstaff's lack of professionalism was further evident when they couldn't distinguish between soy milk, oat milk, or almond milk for our coffee order. Despite these service issues, the restaurant's environment was clean and beautiful, complementing the overall dining experience. Ultimately, while the food was enjoyable, improvements in service quality are necessary for a more satisfying visit.

Currently sitting in this cafe right now. We ordered well over an hour ago and are still waiting for some of our meals, whilst other people in the group have finished. We have a toddler with us who had to be given packet food we had with us as their meal was the one that has not arrived yet. The vegetarian options on the menu are very limited and were very average and luke warm. Adding this place to our never revisit list.

If you have a sign saying “best coffee in town” on the front of your building then it should be atleast drinkable. This was one of the worst coffees I have had. It tasted sour and burnt. I could only stomach 1 sip before leaving.
Ryley M — Google review
Nice little place, cute atmosphere. The wood-oven pizza definitely didn't seem genuine, or it was old, as it wasn't hot. The serving size of the chips for $7.90 was tiny. Lastly, staff were yelling and swearing at fellow staff which ruined the experience.

review no. 39 for 2024 Beef Goulash Pie $7 Howdy pie lovers After seeing on channel 9 news Adelaide that a bakery in Hahndorf is closing its doors after 50 years on the 28th of April, I thought I better make the trek up the hill to do a pie review and pay my respects to the bakery. The pie had that homemade look to it. It had a nice golden look to it. The pastry was nice and soft. The pastry wasn't flakey at all, nice texture and consistency on the palette. Cooked perfectly above and the underside. The filling was nice, not overall spicy, had hints of paprika, tomato in it and tender pieces of beef. Had that homemade country goulash feel to it. The sauce/gravy to meat ratio was pretty good. Overall it was a nice tasting pie. Serving temp was good and it held up together perfectly. (Don't know what the deal is with the Vili's bag - I've found out that they don't do homemade pies just sell vili's. nb got a Cherry Strudel 👌👌 wow and a pretzel 🥨 (which made me thirsty 😉) 2 Pine Ave, Hahndorf SA 5245 #MeatPie #MeatPieAppreciationGroup #Hahndorf For more Meat Pie reviews, join my group on Facebook the Meat Pie Appreciation Group

My favourite cafe in Hahndorf. This cafe is a bit away from the main street, so not as popular as other cafes and pubs on the main street. However, I like their unique interior decor and loads of antique items, especially clocks! It was interesting to listen to cuckoo clocks alarming every few minutes. Beesting cake is my recommendation and their coffee is good too. If you are a tourist, don't miss out on this interesting place.

Really cool place! So many different artworks and clocks to look at while you wait for your food. The cakes, brunch food, and drinks were all delicious - and there was lots more on the menu I’d like to try! Lovely spacious indoor and outdoor seating, and the light on a sunny day is so nice. I definitely recommend visiting - it’s a great spot with interesting connections to the German history of Hahndorf.

Hidden off the side of the main road you will come across this establishment. The interior is full of character and cuckoo clocks. We ordered German sausage and a steak pie. Sausages were amazing in taste and the steak pie pastry crisp and crunch. We also ordered two chai latte with almond milk. WOW!! It was so good I ordered another for the road. Arrived just on opening and atmosphere was quiet without the hustle and bustle from the main road eatery's. Food arrived without any issues and staff very friendly.
Matthew C — Google review
Very original decoration with all the clocks. The food was OK. Why 3 stars? The service wasn't great. The guy at the front seemed dissatisfied by us asking to have tap water instead of bottled water. On top of that, he didn't bother bringing it to the table. So a quite mediocre service I would say. The desserts looked amazing although we just had savoury food

The decor for the shop and customer service of staff was very good. The owner was friendly and helpful with our order, the only issue was the menu did not specify what times the breakfast menu ended each day. The cherry strudel and cakes were fantastic, I will definitely return.

Located in the heart of historic Hahndorf, Kitchen 2C is a charming cafe that serves up fresh, seasonal produce and artisan coffee for breakfast and lunch. With a diverse menu featuring Asian, Spanish, and comforting dishes, as well as an array of delectable cakes and sweets, this spot offers something for every palate. The cafe has garnered praise from visitors and locals alike for its loose leaf tea and quick bites.
Lovely little cafe with a cosy ambience. Our coffees were perfect strength and temperature. Double shots in the large mugs and milk not scalded. Our order consisted of sauteed mushrooms to which a poached egg was added and the smoked salmon. The meal size would be on the smaller size for a cafe breakfast, but they were both well presented and tasty. One issue - the positioning of the menu. Whilst it looks really cool - menu items and descriptions pinned to a blackboard wall - it is really awkward to read as you have to intrude on other people's dining space to see it.
Kaz B — Google review
★★★☆☆ Kitchen 2C has good food, but the experience didn’t quite match the price. The ‘big’ breakfast at $25 was decent, but not as generous as expected. The most frustrating part was the menu setup—you have to walk up to a side wall to read it, which feels chaotic and disruptive, both for those trying to order and for diners seated nearby. It’s something I’d expect in a pub’s front bar, not a café. This setup really takes away from the atmosphere.

Shaw + Smith, established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw, is a top-notch winery known for its hand-picked grapes and on-site fermentation, aging, and bottling at Balhannah. The winery has a sustainable farming approach and prioritizes water and energy conservation. In addition to their regular wine flight, they offer a Limited Release Wine Flight featuring aged release or single-site wines paired with a South Australian produce platter.
Shaw + Smith was such a lovely experience from start to finish. The setting is absolutely beautiful – panoramic vineyard views and a modern, relaxed vibe that makes you want to linger all afternoon. The wines were fantastic. I especially loved the rosé – crisp, refreshing, and perfect for the sunny afternoon. The tasting was well-paced and thoughtfully curated, with each wine introduced by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was just as impressive. The goat’s cheese with honeycomb was a standout – such a clever pairing – and the burrata was unbelievably creamy and fresh. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Great service, gorgeous scenery, and top-notch wine and food – definitely a must-visit in the Adelaide Hills!

We were enticed in on a chilly day by the specials menu out front advertising $15 lunches which seemed like good value. Hubby ordered a creamy pasta dish and myself the sausage with mash and red cabbage. The pasta was flavourful and tasty, penne obviously dried and not freshly made but still enjoyable. The sausage dish also had good flavour and I enjoyed it. Both dishes were very small in size and although we are small eaters we both left hungry so I would recommend the business takes notice of feedback. Though a dish is a "special" it shouldn't mean you reduce the portions size so much that it becomes stingy. Service was good, staff friendly and restaurant cosy.

5 out of 5 stars! Great food and true spirit of hospitality! We went there on a public holiday, the staff are very friendly and efficient to arrange a table for us in the extra busy time. Our visit was not the first time we had visited the German Spoon. Again, we were not disappointed. The menu offered a range of 'traditional' German food. Everyone should find something to their taste. We sat out on the verandah. It was a delightful spring day and so it was an appropriate choice. We selected the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and the seniors special lunch of German sausage and mashed potato. Each meal was generous, hot and tasty. Service was great. Now this was a bit disappointing. The breakfast was average and the presentation of it was a bit depressing. I must say I was expecting a bit more here. Customers have praised the friendly staff, tasty food, and the variety of menu options available for breakfast and lunch. In addition to its delectable desserts, Royal Copenhagen Hahndorf is known for its generous portions and inviting atmosphere across multiple dining levels.
The best cinnamon donuts I've ever try in South Australia. Definitely, have to try it. Highly recommended for everyone to visit it at least ones!

Great icecream. Good coffee. Friendly service, but our last visit the portions weren't consistent between staff. The couple we were with got more generous serves, which made for some disputes between the children. Maybe I didn't smile enough. :)

Great place for food :) the staff are very friendly and welcoming :) Food presentation and taste are pretty damn good. Everything tasted fresh. Orange juice was freshly made and heavenly. There’s upstairs, ground level, and downstairs for dining. They have a high chair. Condiments are free to use. There’s an ice cream station for toppings. The ice cream tastes pretty good too. Lots of dishes to choose from the menu. Read the one inside not just the small one outside the shop. Nice and quiet. Family friendly. Croissant tastes and big breakfast taste great. The Nutella crepes not so much, could taste the pan the used :( made it very difficult to enjoy. The strawberries were local, fresh, and delicious. Would definitely come here again :)

They call themselves an icecreamery and dessert bar, but the lunches served here are pretty great too. I had a very tasty burger and chips combo for $18. While I felt the price was a little steep, it was very nice and quite a large meal. Worth a stop for a bite to eat.

Visited 2 days ago, late on Sunday afternoon on a freezing afternoon. We just wanted a hot afternoon tea and were frankly pretty disappointed. We ordered 2 hot chocolates and both arrived about 10 mins later - both lukewarm. The wedges we ordered arrived nearly 20 minutes after that - they were also warm so had obviously been sitting in the kitchen waiting for someone to bring them out. There were only 2 other tables (3 and 4 people respectively) and both had ordered before us. There was only 1 group who walked in and got a takeaway order in the 40 minutes we were there. So basically - it wasn't busy and therefore no reason for such a long wait and lukewarm food. Altogether not a good experience.? I saw 2 young girls at front of house and neither seemed very confident in what they were doing. I have read a previous review that also seems to be from Sunday and your response that there were new staff on that day. I don't have a problem with that - these young people have to learn and get experience. But if that's the case then where was their supervision?

The Cafe 1839 is a charming coffee shop situated in the heart of Hahndorf, conveniently located along Main Street next to Alec Johnston Park. This cozy spot offers a delightful selection of local produce and serves up fresh, healthy modern Australian cuisine for breakfast and lunch. The cafe is housed in a historical German house dating back to the 1850s, adding to its unique appeal.
This was hands down one of the best breakfasts we have had this year. I had the hush stack breakfast burger (highly recommended), and my wife had the Brekky Bruschetta with avo ( highly recommend), and the coffee was great, too. If you are looking for fair pricing and super high-quality meals that are well presented and fresh, this is the place.

A charming little café tucked away in the gorgeous town of Hahndorf. The coffee is hands-down the best in town, and the food was absolutely delicious. Service was friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better. We loved it so much that after a stroll through the town, we went back for another coffee. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Wonderful little cafe! Recommend to all. Grand daughter loved so much she had to have a second serving. Eggs Benny with bacon..AMAZING! 😊 great coffee too 😊

Great food and very friendly service. The man who was serving us was so kind and attentive. It seemed like on a weekday he was possibly there on his own. We even observed him helping a couple of young mothers get a few sips of their coffees down by amusing their toddlers for a few moments in between his tasks which was so heartwarming! The food was awesome. I'm a chilli lover so would have been even better if the fritters came with an option for some chilli jam but they were so delicious!!

We made this our local for the 4 days we spent in Hahndorf (our motel is right next door). I loved how it wasnt modelled on the whole German theme. The lattes were super delicious! The image attached shows one of the breakfast we had - my partner said the double brekky burger on Turkish bread was the best he has ever had (he is a connoisseur of B&E sandwiches/rolls 🤭). The sauce was a combination of bbq and tomato relish & the eggs were perfectly cooked 🍳 My brekky brushetta was perfectly balanced with the red onion, fresh radishes and herbs. I added chorizo, which was beautifully fried and the tasitest I've had in a long time. The additional scrambled eggs were deliciously silky. Highly recommend the two as well as the corn fritter stack 🤤 - the portions are so generous 😍 you leave full till dinner. The owner and staff are really friendly, maintain a clean space are attentive and accommodating to customer needs. Prices are more than reasonable 👌🏽👌🏽

Nepenthe Cellar Door, located just 25 minutes from the city in Adelaide Hills, has recently undergone a stunning renovation. The state-of-the-art building boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious outdoor deck with panoramic views. Visitors can enjoy guided wine tastings, indulge in cheese and charcuterie boards, or opt for private tasting experiences. The winery's elevated altitude and cool climate result in faithful wine varietals with unique nuances.
Nepenthe was one of the highlights of our Adelaide Hills wine adventure! The setting is absolutely stunning – sweeping views, lush vines, and such a peaceful vibe that you instantly feel relaxed the moment you arrive. We were genuinely impressed by the wines. The Blanc de Blancs was a standout for me – earthy, refined, and so easy to enjoy. Hubby also loved the Pinot Noir, which had great depth and character, and the Gewürztraminer, which was aromatic, fresh, and just a little bit different in the best way. The staff were lovely – friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to guide us through the tastings without any rush. It felt personal and unpretentious, which we really appreciated. Highly recommend making a stop here if you’re in the region. Gorgeous wine, even better views, and a truly memorable experience!

Visited Nepenthe Wines in Hahndorf on my birthday, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences ever! The place is surrounded by stunning hills and vineyards — the kind of view that instantly puts you at peace. We started with a wine tasting, and every pour had its own charm — smooth, fresh, and full of flavour. The staff were super friendly and took the time to explain each wine, making the whole experience even better. We also ordered the bread and dip platter, which was simple yet delicious — fresh bread, creamy dips, and the perfect pairing with their wines. Sitting outdoors with a glass of wine, enjoying the view, and spotting a few kangaroos in the distance made it even more special. As someone who enjoys photography, this place is a paradise — every corner has that natural, scenic charm that’s perfect for photos. Overall, Nepenthe Wines is the perfect blend of great wine, good food, and breathtaking views — an amazing spot to celebrate special moments or just relax with friends. 🍇✨

Even with the clouds rolling over the hills, Nepenthe Winery still felt like a hidden gem in the sky. The place reeked of charm and sophistication. Love their Chardonnay — smooth, crisp, and full of character. Absolutely worth taking a bottle home (or two). 🍇✨ AUD 15 wine tasting fee can be refunded when you purchase at least 2 bottles😍 Special shoutout to Marie, whose warmth and knowledge made the whole visit even more memorable. Her service was genuine and welcoming — the kind of hospitality that sticks with you. Cloudy day? Yes. Cloudy mood? Not a chance. Would definitely come back!

My wife and I recently visited Nepenthe Cellar Door, and we had an amazing experience! The view was absolutely stunning, and the wines were fantastic. Ben, really made the visit special—he was friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. Outstanding food. 1st time here and just grabbed a quick takeaway on a cold wet winters night. Ready in 20 min and both beef & chicken dishes were cooked perfectly, with tender meat & fresh crunchy vegetables and great flavour. Excellent fried rice too. We will be back to sample a few more items!

Amazing food and the girl who served us was so nice, professional and helped us get everything for the table. The only thing with some things about the restaurant was that the chair broke and my 5 yro fell on the ground, it was rocky before she used it and there was leakage coming from the ceiling on the ground and my family member slipped. Surely they can renovate and keeps things a bit better then they are. Besides all that! Great food and lovely staff girl with the beautiful long hair! Thanks!

The food was absolutely delicious and freshly made. Can’t believe how affordable this place is. The fried rice is only $9.90 and the serving is huge. Great taste, great value — I’ll be back for sure!

I and my two teen girls have been in Adelaide for two weeks. Recently, we have been craving for decent Chinese/Asian food. And we are lucky to chance upon Gourmet House. We ordered the Har Gow(Prawn Dumplings), Pork Dumplings, Sweet N Sour Pork. These dishes are perfectly cooked to satisfy our cravings. We have also ordered two Thai dishes, Pad Thai and Tom Yam soup which are just equally good like what we had in S’pore. To drink a bowl of well-cooked Tom Yam soup on a cold evening is just so warming and satisfying. Gourmet House has so many other mouth watering dishes on the menu and we will definitely be back to try out the other dishes.

Fish & chips restaurant
Hahndorf Fish And Chips is known for their fresh seafood, including fish and prawns. The batter on the dishes is crispy, which is vital for creating delicious fish and chips. The portion sizes are generous, making it suitable for those with smaller appetites. The prawns and calamari are also large in size. Customers thoroughly enjoy their meals at this restaurant, praising the sweet and succulent hake, perfectly cooked calamari, and juicy plump prawns.
John is a kind and generous man who simply makes really great fish and chips. Nothing fancy, no fusion inspired rubbish or vegan friendly plant fish. Just bloody good traditional fish and chips!! The best I have ever had in Australia and the equal to the best I have ever had in England. From the time I'm posting this, there are only a few weeks left before John takes his well deserved retirement. If you are visiting Hahndorf, the best meal you will get here is Hahndorf Fish and Chips.

The fish n prawns were very fresh! The batter was crispy which is crucial for making the delicious fish n chips. The snack pack portion was of good size for small eaters. The prawns n calamaris were big in size too. Enjoyed the meal totally. Visited on a weekday lunch time, so not much customers.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal! The hake was sweet, flakey and succulent, the calamari was done to perfection, and the prawns were juicy and plump! It was such an enjoyable meal for 2. I would rate 6 stars if I could! Service was pleasant too. 👍

Upon our arrival, we were promptly welcomed with a cheerful expression from the server. As we perused the menu options, a small basket of Papadams was presented for us to enjoy together. The waiter displayed friendliness, attentiveness, and helpfulness throughout our dining experience. The cuisine offered at Nepalese Temptations Restaurant Hahndorf exceeded our expectations in terms of taste and high quality ingredients.
From the moment we walked in we were promptly greeted with a Smile by our Waiter.. While we were looking at the Menu we were given a small basket of Papadams to share. Our Waiter was friendly, attentive and helpful. Great tasting good quality Food and amazing Service. I had the Goat Curry and it was so so Tender and plenty of meat, not filler. Partner had Chilli dish and the Sauce was silken. Not runny or gluggy and with just enough oomph heat wise. We'll be back.

Service was excellent and staff was superbly good. However, food was tasteless and not worth the price at all. I ordered fish curry, chef’s special and garlic cheese roti. There is something missing in every single bite I take, especially the curry. I was expecting the curry to be spicy but not at all. It didn’t do justice to my tastebuds and I am quite disappointed when I forked out $66 for something that is so tasteless.
Kurt — Google review
After seeing these glowing reviews and visiting Nepalese Temptations, I left somewhat disappointed. The polite and attentive service was the best part of the night, but the food was middle of the road. The Chef's Special was ok and the Naan was warm and soft. However the Chilli Chicken was hard and chewy. The Butter Chicken was the worst I've had in any subcontinental restaurant, far too oily that I couldn't finish it. Did I go here on bad night? Maybe. But unfortunately it'll be hard to get me back here for a second go.
Robvnet — Google review
No longer Nepalese . Had booking for Saturday night. Turned up only to discover that it is now Indian. No attempt to contact me before I arrived to advise change of cuisine.

Set in pretty surroundings in the quaint location of Hahndorf. The menu, although not extensive caters for all tastes and if it’s not on the menu, for example beef Wellington, the give owner/ Chef Matt two days notice and he will prepare it. He caters for all dietary requirements, attends the guests personally, checking during the meal if everyone is happy with their order. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit as a family and will certainly be back.

The Mustard Seed Restaurant is a spacious stone cottage with an outdoor dining terrace where they serve tasty Indian and pan-Asian cuisine. It is a popular spot for groups, as it can accommodate up to 16 people. The weather was excellent on Mother's Day, allowing diners to enjoy their meal outside on the vibrant autumn afternoon in Hahndorf. The restaurant offers delicious dishes, including halal options for those who prefer chicken and beef.
What a delightful experience. On a fancy street full of restaurants , this one is unique. Jess the lady who hosted was a pleasure to talk to and she also ensured that we have the right order depending upon my parents appetite. It is the sincerity and honesty that I need to applaud as she wasn’t getting us to order more but effectively. The ambience of the restaurant is just right. We ordered a mini banquet for 2 as my parents wouldn’t eat a lot. The navratna korma and the rice was not only delicious but the quantity was also great. I ordered a pina colada for them again superb. Apart from that ordered chicken tikka which was presented fab and again the quantity was commendable. Cheese naan and Malai kofta was a feather in the cap. The malai kofta which is usually lighter yellow was a different brownish curry prep but the flavour was just so enchanting that I loved it. I ordered my favourite Arancini balls n my, just perfectly melted and could feel each bite. The service was fast and when met with a smile, it just becomes the best. Loved being here and definitely would come back. Thanks Jess, you were wonderful. Kudos to the chef and other staff as everyone made us comfortable. Feedback if any is the size of plate is quite small ( not food quantity) but literally the plate size.

For appetizers: 😋Samosas- crispy and packed with great flavor. If you like spice, go for the 🌶️Fire Ball🌶️. It’s hot but so tasty, especially with the spicy sauce. For the main dish: The Tandoori lamb cutlets are amazing. The meat is tender and the naan with the sauce goes really well with it.😋😋 For dessert: Try the 🌟Pistachio Kulfi. It’s rich, creamy, and full of pistachio flavor.

Went with a group of 16 on the Mother's Day. Luckily, the weather was superb and so could dine outdoors on the colourful autumn afternoon at Hahndorf. All dishes were delicious. Good Indian restaurant in a street of various restaurants. The staff was courteous to suggest a meaningful choice of food. The place is near and there is a beautiful flower garden in the front of the restaurant. There are good north indian good options. It's a bit pricey but comparable to all the other restaurants in the street. The place has a toilet. It might be harder to find parking as it's in the Main Street of Hahndorf.

Arrived on Saturday evening of a long weekend, we said we would sit outside and the waitress said she would bring cutlery and menus. We waited for 20 minutes and then my husband had to walk in and request menus. It took a further 15 minutes for her to come back, take our drinks order and then on return eventually took our food order. My entree came out first followed by my main while my husband was sitting there waiting for his entree there was only two other tables being served so in my opinion service was extremely lacking. Food was tasty but overall not a great experience if I’m honest. Not likely to go back.

It attracts visitors of all ages, even teenagers who enjoy spending time there. The park features a charming garden with convenient public restrooms and serves as a great spot to take a break from walking around town. Its location is also highly regarded, and it prominently showcases the bust statue of Captain Dirk Meinertz Hahn, after whom the town was named.
Pioneer Park is an oasis from the main street tourist trail of Hahndorf. The park offers a kids playground at rear, a rotunda and clean public toilets. There's loads of options to picnic or read a book on well maintained lawns or sit in the shade. Definitely worth a stop.

Nice well kept park and gardens. The historic statue and monument were interesting to look at. The amenities were clean. Rotunda so you can sit undercover and some seating within the park.

Thai to You is a delightful Thai restaurant, run by a friendly family, that offers mouthwatering cuisine in a casual environment. Although it may be slightly expensive, it is the sole Thai establishment in this tourist destination and the food is truly delectable. The menu boasts a variety of dishes that are expertly prepared and bursting with freshness. Patrons can relish in flavorful options such as beef salad and chicken pad thai, both impeccably cooked.
some of the best Thai I have had outside of Thailand. we had the beef salad and chicken pad thai and both were fresh and perfectly cooked. would recommend!

Nice, family-owned Thai restaurant, informal setting and delicious food! Maybe a tad pricey, but it's the only Thai place in a tourist town, and was very tasty. Looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. Right next to the IGA, rather than the pics Google has up.

A trip through the iron gates is like entering a country bumpkin's shed. An interesting collection of old stuff...some items more valuable than others. Sadly the owner was having a heated argument with a customer about an order the day we visited, so didn't even acknowledge our presence. Worth a look if in the area.

I have to say this place reminds me of the English comedy series Ruddy Hell It’s Harry & Paul in which Harry Enfield’s character has a shop in Chelsea called I Saw You Coming. There’s plenty of interesting bric-a-brac on offer if you think it’s worth it. I guess it’s all in the eye if the beholder😏

Coles Mount Barker is a vibrant shopping destination that caters to all your grocery needs with major retailers like Coles and Foodland. This center not only offers a wide array of everyday essentials but also features charming specialty stores, including delightful bakeries, inviting cafes, and an acclaimed fruit and vegetable shop that locals rave about. The layout of Coles Mount Barker is designed for easy navigation, ensuring visitors can effortlessly explore everything from casual dining options to essential services such as pharmacies and newsagents.
Great Store, Great products, Friendly Staff, I Love using the Self Serve and the staff are always there to help if needed. If I do want to use a Checkout, I always find it relatively quick and am happy to wait because the staff are always nice.
Coco D — Google review
It’s a decent Coles overall but can get a bit frustrating during peak times... aisles feel crowded and stock can be patchy, especially later in the day. Staff are mostly helpful, but self-serve checkouts sometimes play up which slows everything down. Not terrible, just not the smoothest shopping experience every time.
Levi S — Google review
Nice clean store with mostly friendly staff. This store loses two stars due to the too many self checkout options. I refuse to do the work for the store and find it absolutely ridiculous that there aren't more staffed checkouts. I would certainly come here more often if there were. As it stands, I only come if the other supermarket doesn't stock an item I require.
Emmy S — Google review
The 200g 2 for $5 Pre packed lettuce is always soggy and rotten in a day. The fish deli counter always has rotting fish there, if you can smell it then they need to be thrown out. I won't be shopping there anymore if I can help it. Rather the Woodside foodland
Emmy Z — Google review
Ok who was the brain child that decided to discontinue VITA BRITS We have diabetics and special dietary needs in our family. VITA BRITS has less sugar and is easily digested. Lately I have gone shopping and the items we need are not there. Liddell lactose free. Zymil cream. We never purchase fruit and vedge from Coles or woolies as it is rotting. And the seafood is a dance with death. Smells like a urinary tract infection. I enquired about the VITA BRITS a nice young man looked it up and yes discontinued. These products are not a trend in our family by school mums we have a genuine medical diagnosed requirement. About your meat prices. Shocking highway robbery. We are primary producers of cattle and sheep. Yes a farm not a hobby farm but a real farm. I can tell you we certainly do not get your sale prices per caucus. We breed the best and govt sell it overseas leaving Australia with frozen 2nd grade over priced product. Mark up 300% Coles you need to know your customers and get with the program. Coles mt Barker is declining lately. Disappointing.

Aldi is a retail chain that offers an impressive selection of grocery items, including meat and dairy products, all at remarkably lower prices compared to competitors like Coles and Woolworths. Shoppers can expect savings of around 25% or even 50% when compared to Foodland. The store also features a variety of organic products and a decent assortment of dips and condiments, perfect for those spontaneous gatherings without breaking the bank.
WARNING don't shop anywhere else but ALDI'S or you will pay so much more at all the other Supermarkets , I have been shopping at ALDI mt Barker since they opened I have saved thousands over the years , the prices and food quality are great the Staff are so friendly and always welcoming ... ALDI good different ALWAYS BETTER
Jason H — Google review
Well stocked store and friendly staff (if you can find someone to assist you, but that's the same at every Aldi store). There's not much parking around, especially for larger vehicles, so I park near Woolworths and walk to the shop. One does need to negotiate stairs or a long ramp to access the store.
Emmy S — Google review
Staff need training in customer service. Witnessed an elderly lady asking where to find a product, a dark haired guy who had just closed his aisle kept sending her back and for instead of getting off his arse & helping her. He proceeded to just sit there doing nothing. I was then randomly asked to have my bag searched by a girl serving me, with no explanation why? Pretty humiliating! I’ll stick to Woolworths where even the 15 year olds have better manners.
Claire S — Google review
Love this supermarket. Has everything I need and always with the reasonable prices. I particularly love their trail mix, tofu and dark chocolate.
The A — Google review
Staff are often rude and demanding. They will treat you like a criminal and demand to look through your bags
Nic R — Google review
Being a comparatively new store, the traffic is not like big queues to the check out, as a large number of people are unaware of the store. We are Aldi shoppers and was so pleased to see this store in MtBarker. We find you regularly make good savings, the range is a little limited but has not created any difficulty for us. Parking is good, right outside the store, the checkout operators are friendly. We will continue to shop here regularly.
Trevor S — Google review
Great prices, good quality produce & the specials lane always a favourite on Wed & Sat.
Begona F — Google review
The store is often messy and the service is rarely good but definitely the worst today. It's quite humid in Mt Barker today and probably the hottest/most humid day we have had yet this season but I don't think that warrants the man who served us named Ben ( who I believe actually had store manager on his tag ) who was very dramatically complaining to the people in front of us about having to sit and scan items for 2 hous at a time and that the air con wasn't working properly and even said something about getting heats stroke which truly is absurd. It honestly was not that warm inside the store and it really was not a great reflection on the store.

Nestled in the charming town of Hahndorf, The Seasonal Garden Cafe is a delightful spot that showcases the best of local and seasonal produce from the Adelaide Hills. This cozy cottage cafe invites you to relax at its eclectic tables while sipping on fresh juices or exploring an impressive selection of teas.
Gorgeous garden setting with a fresh and delicious menu. Breakfast is on all day and has a seasonal element to it. The outdoor seating area is set amongst a beautiful garden, which is divine in warm sunny weather. Dog friendly and kid friendly too. Food and coffee were all on point and service was fast and friendly - even though they were incredibly busy. Love it, will definitely go back.

Huge salad bowls full of a diversity of lovingly made goodness. Succulent mushrooms, nicely cooked chicken and mooreish home-made hummous. The garden courtyard is a beautiful place to lunch and provides great atmosphere. Service was quick and portions good value. Left feeling happy and full of wholesome nutritious food. Will definately return.

The Seasonal Garden Cafe is a great option in Hahndorf. Located in the main street, this cafe offers a cozy environment, very friendly staff and a delicious menu. I strongly recommend a visit on its backyard. An amazing place, full of green and fruits, that can be picked straight from the garden. The menu is very price friendly, with good options for breakfast, brunch, lunch afternoon tea and dinner. They also have a wooden oven to prepare some amazing pizzas. I'm planning my next visit during the evening. A good option for a day trip.

Beautiful atmosphere, beautiful service, beautiful food. Went on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. They were very busy but still had plenty of room and time for us. We sat outside in the sun and when it got a little chilly, one of the waiters happily stationed an outdoor heater next to us. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is so beautiful and fresh and DELICIOUS! Looking forward to coming back some time.

Lots of places to choose seating in, inside, outside, in the fully under cover deck (with heating and blankets to use on a cool day). Staff were great. Meals were reasonably priced, very substantial and delicious, and came out quite fast. Look forward to going again and trying something else on the menu.

The best pancakes I've ever had!! They were really fluffy and delicious! The berry compote was rich but fresh and the cinnamon butter was such a pleasant addition!! Will definitely be visiting again :) we sat outside, in the back and it was perfect!

This place pumps, be prepared to wait for a table or join a queue to order food in their peak periods, the line up to order food was almost out the door when i went, but its definitely worth a look. All food is prepared in house from scratch and the vegies are picked from their vegie patch out the back of the restaurant and they use local produce where they can, prices are a little high compared to other places but then again this isnt McDonald's, the serves are massively generous and its the sought of food that fills you up as well because it is good quality produce which they turn into good quality nutritious food, definitely recommend the smoothies, THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Leather goods store
Hahndorf Leathersmith and Bush Gallery is a delightful destination for anyone who appreciates quality leather goods. As you wander through the store, you'll be captivated by the unique atmosphere, where messages from customers around the globe are creatively displayed on pieces of leather. The walls and ceilings adorned with foreign currency add to its charm. Shoppers can find everything from cozy Ugg boots—perfect for winter—to personalized items like custom dog collars crafted during engaging workshops led by skilled artisans.
Hugo has done a great job with complete new foam and leather. Also the cover as well. Very happy with advice on leather that would look aged quickly. Leather interior is 12 months old and just had cover completed. Speaks for itself.

We were welcomed by a very friendly younger lady. While my partner was looking for dog collars I was waiting outside with our pups until she came and invited me and our fur babies inside. My husband and I were in Hahndorf recently while on holidays from Sydney. We’ve been looking for a couple of long quilted oilskin coats for our retirement in 4 years. We found the type of coats we were looking for, The Franklin, but not in our size. Thankfully they were able to order the coats for us and post them to Sydney. A big thank you to Leah for her excellent customer service, the coats arrived within the week! This shop is very quirky and has so much charm, love the open fireplace and the uneven floors! An absolute must when visiting Hahndorf.

Nestled in the heart of Mount Barker, the Mount Barker Community Library is a charming hub that offers much more than just books. This cozy library is a treasure trove for families and individuals alike, featuring not only an extensive collection of literature but also a Toy Library that delights children. Visitors often rave about the engaging activities organized by dedicated staff members who go above and beyond to create memorable experiences for young readers.
Lovely, clean, spacious library. Lots of areas to sit, relax and read, or work. There is also a dedicated children's area where regular activities are held. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is also an area where cables are plugged in so people can charge their phones. Ample toilets are kept nice and clean. The TAFE administration is set up at the rear, and they have their own designated entrance to the side of the building. Lots of parking around, too.

Just want to congratulate staff and volunteers on the fantastic services you provide to the community. It's not just about borrowing books and Toy Library toys - so much more is offered! Yesterday my grandson excitedly visited the Library (which he knows well since a baby) with peers and Educators from Edge Early Learning Mt Barker. I was delighted to read and see photos of the excursion. Thank you Anita for reading not just stories, but also providing such great activities to follow up the story. Just love Hairy Maclary and friends and used them many years ago when teaching and for all the grandchildren. The children followed up with pancakes and fruit on the lawn outside! What a wonderful morning! My grandson who is just 3 was telling his toys about his excursion that night! Thank you all for the great work! Sorry it's so long - a much appreciated Gran. Helen Hoekman

The German Pantry, also known as The Cedars, is a 36-acre country property that was home to the iconic landscape painter Sir Hans Heysen and his family. Situated amidst towering trees, this charming estate expanded to 132 acres over time. Visitors can explore the fine art, beautiful gardens, and learn about the lives of the Heysen family members, including Nora who became a renowned artist herself.
This quaint German shop is an absolute gem! It offers a sound variety of authentic German food products alongside locally made produce, making it a wonderful spot for anyone looking to explore traditional flavors or pick up high-quality ingredients. The customer service is friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming.
Renee M — Google review
I was screamed at by a cantankerous, older woman working in the shop who shouted “YOU CANNOT TAKE PICTURES, DELETE THAT IMMEDIATELY, THERE ARE SIGNS!!”… I was so shocked that staff who would want to make money from customers would be that rude to us for an innocent mistake. Terrible customer service which is clearly having an impact on their shop as it was the quietest one we went in. The picture I took was of a packet biscuits 🤣 and I hadn’t noticed the signs saying no pictures otherwise I wouldn’t have done so in the first place, but surely there’s no need to be that secretive about a packet of common German biscuits. Grow up!!
Abi H — Google review
Reading these reviews makes a lot of sense now. We walked in and immediately felt uncomfortable, no greeting, nothing. Then my friend proceeded to take out her phone and was told very abruptly and rudely “no photos, there’s obviously signs”. She had no intentions of kindly informing her of the policies. We will not be returning 🥲

Odd the reviews, had good service and thought the products were quite good and not too outrageously priced. No photos is bizarre, firsty what the .... do you want to take a photo in a grocery store for and secondly who cares if you do? Not like you're displaying rare and special items... its groceries 🙃

I have been a regular customer and member of this pharmacy for years, but after today I will not be going back. I requested an emergency dose of my medication for a night because my script was at my partner's quite a distance away. Without going into extensive detail, I was interrogated to a point I felt complete shame and embarrassment and comments and assumptions were made that were completely inappropriate (including "maybe you can just get to the chemist in Reynella before it shuts" or "Because you don't live permanantly in Mt Barker you won't bring in the script"). I understand a pharmacist is required to be thorough and questions need to be asked, but a bit of empathy and understanding would go a long way. As someone with severe anxiety this was not a pleasant situation and I would hope that as a future mental health professional dealing with vulnerable people I will have a bit more decorum.

Although there is not a huge variety of trails, the place itself has good quality trails. In future, the sign mentioned the expansion of trails. It's also good for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced riders.
Harry T — Google review
Great for walking while kids are at school, not sure about out of school hours/weekends as bikes will be using and no where really for walkers to get out of the way.
Debbie M — Google review
Great set of small trails but fantastic fun for all.

The Australian Opal Company is a gemstone haven located in Coober. The company operates its own underground opal mine and offers visitors the chance to witness the cutting of opals and creation of exquisite Australian sapphire jewelry through a glass-walled workshop inside their shop. Customers have praised the team's expertise, with one customer expressing gratitude for their assistance in repairing a chipped Boulder opal and providing efficient service when changing out an opal from a ring.
I'm 39 years old and this is my very first piece of jewellery ever! She was made for me, the colour of my birth stone and fits me like a glove. Thank you so much Greg I'll never forget my visit to the Australian Opal Company in Hahndorf ❤️❤️❤️

We were looking for South Australian heirlooms and were lucky to cross paths with Greg at Australian Opal Company. Here we received fine sets of custom made opal/diamond earrings, rings and pendants, artisanally crafted by Greg and his team with surgical precision. Greg is a true gentleman with a generous heart, and passionate about his work. Greg has a wealth of knowledge, an eye for detail and looked after us to the letter. Platinum bespoke products and service from a boutique quality team. Very satisfied and highly recommended.

From the moment we walked in David was friendly and welcoming, he offered support as we looked around and was very informative about their opals. David went above and beyond by creating a custom ring so I was able to have my dream piece within my price range. I highly recommend David, Australian Opal Company and their team!

We recently visited the Australian Opal Shop in Hahndorf and had a fantastic experience. Greg, one of the workers there, was incredibly nice and helpful, taking the time to share his personal stories and knowledge about opal mining with us. His passion for opals and firsthand experience in the field made the visit both informative and enjoyable. The shop had a beautiful selection of opals, and Greg’s friendly demeanor and expertise really made our time there memorable. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

Highly recommend the craftmanship and care the Australian Opal Company provide. Even during busy weekends, Greg worked with me to create a custom engagement ring with hand selected and shaped crystal opal stone. The pictures don't do it justice; If you're in the area stop by and have a look at the incredible range of opal jewellery and stones that could one day become your own unique piece.
Andrew W — Google review
The shop owner was incredibly friendly! There were so many sparkling gems, and a wide variety of necklaces and rings to choose from. When we walked closer to the counter, the owner kindly asked if we wanted to take a closer look at the rings in the display case. They even helped us try them on and chatted with us about where we were visiting from. The rings were so beautiful that we ended up happily making a purchase!

Greg was very informative. He took time to explain various mining techniques and methods used and answered our children’s questions. Was a great experience and glad we stopped in. Walked away with some very nice pieces and great information. Highly recommend. Thanks very much!

This shop is well worth a visit when you go to Hahndorf. The owner Greg is very knowledgeable and a very kind hearted man. I visited the shop yesterday with an unusual request. After having a very sentimental piece of jewellery stolen and the centrepiece opal ripped out I was fortunate enough to obtain this item back minus the opal. Although I was very upset to see my piece torn apart I lived in hope of one day resurrecting it. Well yesterday was the day. I visited Greg's shop and he listened patiently to my request and found an opal in his stock that fitted my requirements exactly. Within 1 hour he had repaired the ring to it's former glory and the cost was very reasonable, in fact lower than what I expected. So much lower I treated myself to an opal necklace from the shop. I cannot thank Greg enough for his time and knowledge yesterday.

Hahndorf Fruit & Veg Market is a great place to do your weekly shopping. There's a huge range of fruit and vegetables, as well as milk, cheese, meats and pies. There's also a beautiful florist who can create amazing arrangements. The market has plenty of parking and it's always friendly and helpful staff.
Nice little fresh food market featuring fruits and local produce of Adelaide. The prices are pretty good vs big supermarkets. The produce display is gorgeous and worth the visit. I was tempted into buying many small quantities of several fruits and was pleasantly surprised that the friendly cashier processed the fruits quickly and efficiently without any negative reaction (I'm used to very unhappy, very human cashiers lol) Very friendly staff and a lovely product range. I would go again when visiting Hanhdorf in the future

It was my first visit. I very much enjoyed exploring all the fresh produce that is on offer. It's great to see that all the fresh items are locally sourced. A very clean store with friendly staff - Cale at the checkout was most pleasant - and ample off-street parking. I'll definitely shop here again. Update: The second visit resulted in purchasing pies, pizzas, fruit and quiches. All very tasty 😋

Saturday mornings here is an outing in itself. They have cabinets outside selling fresh bread, croissants, cakes, donuts and coffee. The staff is always friendly and their produce is the best around. Beautiful flowers too. Great prices and great services. Check them out

Every time I go to Hahndorf, I stop by this place to buy cakes and daily necessities. Shopping experience is what I'm most satisfied with. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Sam's popcorn is worth a try. Goods are displayed in a large, clean & neat space. The flowers here are always kept fresh & beautiful. I aso like the squid pizza at the bakery and pizza counter in front of the store. Thanks!

Whether you're on the hunt for old costume jewelry or nostalgic toys like rotary phones and toy cars, you'll find it all here.
Overall a very nice experience, very charming store with good stock selection. Staff were helpful and mindful and were considerate of me as a customer. Item I bought was good quality for money and was in good shape. Store overall adds much value to the town and I have and will go again.

We walked through on our return journey home. There was a great selection of of different and various items for sale. It was nice to walk through and reminisce over the past and what we've seen come and go. It wasn't an overcrowded shop, trying to put too much in. There was just enough.
Tim A — Google review
LOVE this place. Affordable and eclectic range of antiques and retro items.
Susy V — Google review
Woman who works there is consistently rude. She also knows very little about the stock as she's "not the one who buys it". Does not offer to direct your questions to anyone who can assist. Prices are not marked on all items, as a result she came up with a totally different price when I went to the counter to pay. Not a problem, these things happen and errors occur but she's always completely rude. This is why you get a poor review.
Pickled O — Google review
Consistently exciting treasure-house of collectables of every kind--and amazingly low prices. This is my favourite shop in Australia. Oh, and the owners George and Mary, along with Jenny, are very friendly and considerate. Always a wonderful experience.
Judy K — Google review
Prices aren't too bad given it's in a tourist town. Fair selection of things in the store and plenty to rummage through. The displays are sort of organised but you see plenty of things just plonked around the place.
Paul P — Google review
Great antique shop, lots of interesting goods. Very reasonably priced, owner very helpful and pleasant. Had to resist the temptation buy lots.

Flea & Street Markets
During our visit to Hahndorf, we stumbled upon the delightful POP Market SA, which takes place every couple of months at the charming Hahndorf Memorial Institute, conveniently located next to the Post Office. This vibrant market showcases a variety of handmade goods from local artisans and small businesses, making it a perfect spot for unique finds. Despite the unpredictable weather that can sometimes dampen spirits, being indoors provided a cozy atmosphere to explore all the creative offerings.
The bad weather is not kind to all the amazing vendors.
Glenys F — Google review
When we were in Hahndorf we were lucky to be there on the same weekend as the POP Market was being held. They are held irregularly every 2-3 months at the Hahndorf Memorial Institute, the cream building next to the Hahndorf Post Office, so you need to check their website on Facebook page as to when they are on next. What we liked, apart from being indoors and out of the rain, is that all the stallholders were small local businesses producing handmade items and products. Especially loved the works by Felted Fields, who produce felted flowers, something we have never seen at any local markets we've visited. If you get the opportunity they are well worth the visit.
