Torrione Passari Molfetta is a unique blend of noble residence and military defense, featuring a round fortified tower that extends into the sea. The tower stands at ten meters high and is externally defined by a wall made of stacked stone courses. It is divided into two orders by a string course frame, with the turreted body resting on a truncated cone escarpment directly facing the sea.
This is a piece of molfetta history and should be visited. Entrance is free and you can climb tower and have a magnificent view of the old town waterfront.

(Translated by Google) Information found online: The tower is configured as a solid cylinder ten meters high, defined externally by a wall obtained by superimposing regular stone courses. A string course frame divides the building into two orders. The actual turreted body stands on a truncated cone escarpment, directly lapped by the sea waters. Three gunboats insist, positioned towards the sea. The eminently defensive function protected the coast of the Insula di Sant'Andrea, i.e. Molfetta still confined within the late medieval wall perimeter, from the Cathedral to Cala Sant'Andrea. The massive walls reach a thickness of five meters, decreasing as you proceed towards the attic. The construction was commissioned, as sources attest, by the noble Herricolo Passari as a defensive completion of his palace, in 1512. At the same time the turreted device was called upon to improve the wall system of the civitas, in fact its construction was strongly supported by the Universitas. Initially the building was intended to be only a gunboat, but soon, in conjunction with the frequent pirate raids carried out by the Saracens and with the Frankish descents, it became a lookout tower. Despite being a construction attributable to the modern age, the iconography revives the much older 'male' model, dear to the Angevin period. Since 2003 the building has hosted the Center for Contemporary Art, an innovative exhibition environment, whose history began in 2002, when the tower was restored by the Municipality of Molfetta as part of the general redevelopment project of the medieval village of the city. The works brought to light the original structure with two entrance rooms and a large circular 'tholos' cave.

Pulo di Molfetta is a large karstic depression located a couple of kilometers from the city. The area houses the Baroque cathedral, the bishop's palace with a diocesan museum containing sacred art and Neolithic artifacts. The cathedral also features a seminary library with over 40,000 works, including an illuminated manuscript from the 16th century and the Red Book detailing the city's history.
Excellent stop in molfetta. Free guided tour that is filled with history and archeologic finds. The fauna and wildlife is very diversified during your descent to bottom of giant natural sinkhole. Our tour guide Fabio was very knowledgeable and we learned many interesting facts. A must see. It is only open on weekends and you must reserve your spot by calling or stopping by tourist bureau downtown molfetta.

Amazing, enchanted place. It’s free and the guided tour is at 3. I just went there a few minutes before 3. The guide only spoke Italian, but with the help of another visitor who was Italian, but spoke decent English it wasn’t an issue. You can use Google translate as well. I loved every minute of it.

The times are not even synchronized, since their website and the sign on the site give one time, while Google offers another. Google time is correct. Then entry is always free for everyone, and this was not reported. Beyond this, there was a very knowledgeable and helpful guide. Recommended visit. (Translated by Google) Visiting this archaeological site was a surprising experience. You find yourself immersed in a place where time seems to have stood still, surrounded by ancient remains that tell literally millennia-old stories, carved in stone, in the evocative silence of the landscape and in the resurfaced remains. The beauty of the site is authentic, and in its simplicity, it provides a profound connection with the past. Fabio, our guide, played a key role in our visit. With passion, expertise, and an extraordinary talent for storytelling, he brought every remaining trace to life. Thanks to him, it wasn't just a visit, but a true journey through time, and through his words, he conveyed a sincere love for history and cultural heritage. Precisely for this reason, it's somewhat disappointing to see how little this site is known and valued. Such an important heritage deserves more effective promotion and greater attention from institutions. It's a shame that so much beauty and significance are hidden from most, when instead they could be a cultural and tourist attraction. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity: it's absolutely worth it, especially considering the free guided tour and the beauty of it. Prepare to experience something truly special.

The site represents not only the presence of man 8000 years ago but also more recent history, with the presence of a convent from the 1500s (not open to visitors) and the Bourbon nitriera which represents a factory, at the time advanced and pre- industrial revolution, for the production of saltpeter, used as gunpowder. Furthermore, you immerse yourself in a unique and varied naturalistic context. The guide of the Puglia region was excellent and well prepared. It can be accessed on Saturdays and Sundays. 4Comune di Molfetta - Palazzo Giovene

4.3

Permanently Closed
Village hall
Palazzo Giovene is a 14th and 15th-century palace located in the old town of Comune di Molfetta. The historic area features narrow streets lined with ancient buildings, including the City Hall and the Hall of the Templars from the 12th century. The Baroque cathedral, which serves as the main church, and the adjoining bishop's palace house a diocesan museum exhibiting sacred art and Neolithic artifacts from Pulo di Molfetta.
(Translated by Google) Information found online: Sixteenth-century noble palace, today the seat of the municipal administration, located in Piazza Municipio, on the corner of Via Morte, at the eastern end of the ancient village. Built by the "de Luca" family, it then passed to the "Esperti" family who sold it to the "Giovene" family in 1772. In the 19th century it was equipped with a third floor above ground which was one of the main causes of the structural instability which made it unusable for much of the 20th century. This useless, indeed harmful, elevation was demolished in 1965; subsequently, between 1976 and 1981, the palace underwent further extensive restoration work. The building is built of masonry with square blocks worked in rustic ashlar, larger in size in the lower portion of the facing, corresponding to the ground floor, and smaller in size in the upper part. It has a rectangular plan, with a loggia on the first floor on the side overlooking Via Morte, now tompagnata. The Renaissance façade is characterized by an important portal consisting of an architraved structure in bas-relief, in which the entrance opens with a round arch, which bears a figure in relief in the keystone; on the sides of the portal, imposing ornate quadrangular pedestals support two paired pillars with braided or spiral decoration, which end with small capitals in Ionic style; above, placed in niches, the statue of a warrior and that of a musician stand out. The entablature features a frieze with floral elements, portraits and the family coat of arms flanked by two cornucopias, above a frame with two tympanums on the sides and a garland cartouche in the centre. The portal ends at the level of the sill marker of the upper floor, beyond which there is a large rectangular window, with a grooved profile, surmounted by a rounded architrave and a molded frame. The French windows that open on the same level are made with the same characteristics, equipped with balconies supported in two cases by corbels carved with scrolls, while in the third case by lobed corbels. In addition to the headquarters of the City Council, the building also houses, in the basement, a Gallery of Contemporary Art where works by important local artists are preserved, and on the ground floor a permanent exhibition of medium-large scale models of the most characteristic vehicles horse-drawn transport. In the Council Hall, portraits from the Gallery of Illustrious Men of Molfetta have been placed along the walls. (Original) Informazioni trovate online: Palazzo gentilizio cinquecentesco, oggi sede dell'amministrazione comunale, localizzato in Piazza Municipio, angolo via Morte, all'estremità orientale del borgo antico.

Trattoria & Pizzeria "Dentro Le Mura" is a traditional wood-fired pizza establishment located on Corso Dante Alighieri in a rustic setting. It offers an elegantly furnished outdoor patio, perfect for alfresco dining during lunch or dinner. If you're looking for delicious Italian cuisine close to the Centro Antico, both Dentro La Mura and La Tavernetta on Via Picca come highly recommended.
We were very positively surprised. We went here because we thought it was a take away pizzeria. When we got there the friendly host welcomed us into the restaurant in the back. In the end we dined there for like 2-3 hours and we had a lovely time, the food was delicious and the ambiance was great. The only knockoff was the tempature, it was quite muggy inside. But definitely worth going back!!

This Pizzeria Ristorante was recommended by a friend. So we were excited to go. The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is clean. Strange remark: ladies, check the ladies room, a flower awaits you... It's very difficult to make a choice: a long (pizza) menu. We wished for a 'deeper' pizza experience: the pizza was missing a bit of taste. But don't get us wrong: the pizza was good. But we had better, and then it's dangerous to compare... Recommended! If you believe this review is useful, then please 'like' it.

The experience at Dentro le Mura was overall average. The insalata di mare was good, but the spaghetti con vongole was far too greasy and heavy with oil — and I strongly doubt it was extra virgin olive oil. Unfortunately, our table was placed right close to the toilets. I can understand that fitting in an extra table means more customers and more revenue, but every time someone went to the bathroom, an unpleasant smell of urine reached our table. This is simply unacceptable, and that table should not exist. Another issue is the air conditioning pipe that runs across the restaurant. Because of the temperature difference between the cold air from the AC and the warmer restaurant interior, condensation formed on the pipe. Drops of water fell to the floor, creating a serious slipping hazard. (I even saw some guests moving their chairs away because the dripping would go on their clothes). This is something that should be addressed immediately for safety reasons. Finally, the waiting time for the dishes was quite long, which added to the overall disappointment. In short: some average food, but let down by poor conditions and lack of attention to comfort and safety.

Little but cozy place. Very friendly and attentive staff. Most importantly the food is great. We tried 3 specials of the day and pasta and starter from the regular menu and everything was great.

Awesome Place with interesting food. They took me at a very late hour, and I ate octopus on a vegetables bed, and a 'cardoncello' mushroom with herbs... Awesome and thoughtful cooking. If not for an inexperienced waiter, too eager to take out my dishes, and in general not very welcoming, everything was perfect and exceeded expectations.

The Church of Saint Conrad in Molfetta is a stunning example of neo-Roman architecture dedicated to San Corrado. Dating back to the 11th century, this unique church features imposing dimensions and two bell towers that dominate the city. Its design, reminiscent of contemporary Islamic architecture, makes it a striking sight along the waterfront. The interior is breathtaking, with particularly remarkable statues of Jesus.
A must see when on the molfetta waterfront in old part of town. Church is beautiful and located right beside old port where fishermen when in town sell fish fresh off their boats. This usually happens weekdays after 4pm.

Guyot Enobistrot is an incredible eatery in Molfetta that offers a remarkable dining experience. The meat served here is truly outstanding, with dishes like Carpaccio and Prussiano Scottona showcasing its exceptional quality. The manager, Antonio, is not only superb but also extremely knowledgeable about the products they serve. Whether you're a meat lover or simply appreciate fine dining, this bistro is the place to be.
There are not enough words to explain how good this dining experience was. We did the ‘Degustazione Pazzeca’ menu and it was incredible. The food was fresh and cooked perfectly. Excellent choice and quality of steaks. They serve them a bit on the raw side (you order medium, get medium rare), but it's a matter of taste, after all. Menu would benefit from adding some side dishes - salads, antipasti without meat.

Came for dinner, left with an experience (and a full stomach) we come to Puglia from Australia, we appreciate good food, especially when it’s made by locals that are clearly passionate about what they do and this place is no exception. The Japanese wagyu was incredible, the best steak we have ever eaten. Simple starters were packed with flavour and finished off with a fluffy tiramisu and sorbeti. Our server was understanding of our lack of English and was thorough and patient in making sure we understood what we were ordering and that we had enough food, and was easily available when we wanted more drinks. These are the experiences we appreciate so much we don’t even care what the cost is. Highly recommended.

Without a doubt, Chotto Chotto - Nippo Apulo Cuisine offers the most outstanding Japanese cuisine in Italy. The dishes are incredibly flavorful, and the waitstaff is by far the friendliest I have encountered anywhere. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try as it truly is an exceptional dining experience. The experiment they have created at this establishment is truly remarkable. The staff is flawless, providing excellent recommendations and delivering top-notch service.
My fiancée and I were in Puglia on our anniversary trip and staying in Molfetta. The restaurant surprised us very positively: the atmosphere had both something classic with old stonework and something new with a very artsy decor; the service was outstanding (there were always two people immediately there to help); and the cuisine combined bold Apulian flavours with traditional Japanese cooking. Can only recommend this restaurant for anyone passing through town.

Lovely atmosphere and prompt service. Some of the staff speak English as well. We had two rolls (the Shiroll and the Hanami roll), and while they were not the most flavorful we’ve ever had, the ingredients (especially the fish) did taste incredibly fresh. Could not be better, the meat was perfectly cooked, and I mean PERFECT, it was red like I asked and tasted like I had little rainbows in my tongue, to be honest I couldn’t stop eating, they offered a free starter, which was GREAT, to say the least, and the location is also great. (Translated by Google) Pop Cellars, in Molfetta in the historic center and easily accessible, is a beautiful place, refined, welcoming with attentive and professional service. Excellent availability and choice of wines (I would say obviously, given the name) even if the prices are quite high (the bottle in the photo, one of the least expensive, €25!); the bruschettas are top notch with very fresh and high quality ingredients, the mixed fried fish is "fair", and could be improved in terms of plating and quantity. I recommend a visit.

(Translated by Google) We chose Cantine Pop because the menu seemed simple enough but interesting at the same time. We started with raw oysters and shrimp accompanied by an excellent glass of rosé prosecco recommended by the excellent manager Donato, who took care of us for most of the time. Next we tried the octopus cooked at a low temperature, the cod tempura on a coconut, courgette and mint sauce, and the seared red tuna with buffalo mozzarella and anchovies, the latter two for me truly superb. We then moved on to the first courses, tortelli filled with buffalo mozzarella and red shrimp tartare, and fusilloni with tuna tartare, yellow datterino tomatoes and burrata, really good. The tortelli were very delicate, while the fusilli had a stronger flavour. For the second course we shared an excellent tagliata; the good Donato told us that to taste a greater variety of meat, the best day is Thursday, but usually both the tagliata and the Florentine steak by the kilo are available. For dessert we chose a puff pastry with ricotta and orange cream and some panko bread spheres filled with chocolate that did not disappoint us. The strong point of Cantine Pop in my opinion is the good quality/price ratio and a menu that is simple enough to understand and taste, nothing too risky or extreme, but still special and well-studied dishes, based on excellent quality and local foods. The place reflects the simplicity of the menu, we are not in an elegant or suggestive location, but precisely POP, where the rustic stone contrasts with modern art, the service is fast and in line with the philosophy of the place. Absolutely to try.

Nestled in the heart of Molfetta, the Church of Saint Stephen is a charming little gem dating back to 1586. This quaint church is not only a place of worship but also a significant cultural landmark, housing exquisite wooden statues that depict the passion and death of Jesus Christ. These stunning figures are carried in procession on Good Friday, adding to the rich tapestry of local traditions.
Little church. It is interesting if you like to visit churches and explore the architecture of the building
Nadia G — Google review
(Translated by Google) Information found online: The register relating to the construction of the confraternal church of Santo Stefano is mainly defined by two dates: 1286, the year of foundation of the building of worship, and 1586, the moment in which the interventions relating to the late mannerist style façade are ascribed. Despite this archival documentation which anticipates the foundation of the site in the 13th century, in the contemporary status quo no trace persists, both structural and stylistic, attributable to the original late medieval factory, therefore the building must be considered as a vivid architectural testimony of late Mannerism. The church is located in the immediate suburbs, a short distance from the main city gate that leads to the Island of Sant'Andrea, the so-called Porta Terra. The sources consulted do not allow us to establish with certainty the date of foundation of the lay association of the same name, which still holds it, but both for the name assumed, typical of the confraternities of the late Apulian Renaissance, and for the fraternal arms adopted, i.e. the red sack - identifying dress of welfare companies - its birth is deduced in the 15th century. In 1529, the city was sacked by French troops allied with the Venetians who, after besieging it, destroyed its buildings and archives. Even the church of Santo Stefano, in its late medieval facies, suffered significant damage which led to its reconstruction at the expense of the confraternity fund. In 1586, the lay association of Santo Stefano joined the Archconfraternity of the SS. Trinità de' Pilgrims and Convalescents of Rome. The successful aggregation is the culmination of the efforts made by the Brothers in the reconstruction of their own place of worship which, damaged by the sack of 1529, saw its completion in that same year as can be read in the stone cartouche that dominates its entrance. In 1671, the church of S. Stefano was elevated to the rank of parish, a dignity that it would lose in favor of the new cathedral, returning to full possession and management of the Archconfraternity. The façade is divided into three registers: the entrance doors open onto the lower one, of which the main one is emphasized through a mannerist imprinting decoration, culminating in the topical heraldic vase of the brotherhood which stands out, didactic, in the middle of the broken tympanum . On the mezzanine register there is a polylobed oculus, which emulates Romanesque rose windows. The upper order houses a small window. The attic is crowned by the canonical gable. On the left stands the bell tower with its majolica spire. The plan has two naves, the central one is domed. The church houses the statuary cycle of the Mysteries, polychrome wooden sculptures depicting the passion of Christ, attributable to a talented Venetian atelier of the 16th century.

(Translated by Google) I was intrigued by the structure of the 13th century church rebuilt after the terrible sack of 1529 by the French. There are two bays and a cross-vaulted sacristy. The side bay has a barrel vault while the main one has a roof made up of two domes. Both are circular, the first dome, the one near the entrance, rests on a cornice made up of twelve segments, which probably symbolize the twelve apostles or the twelve tribes of Israel. The one where the altar is located is also circular and overlooks the floor of the presbytery area which forms a square, the whole suggests to me the usual symbols of the period where the divine, the circle, is "incarnated" on the altar placed on the floor square. The circle and the square represent the two fundamental aspects of God: unity is the divine manifestation. The circle expresses the celestial, the square the terrestrial. In this area the 5 simulacra of the 5 Mysteries are placed surrounded by flowers and the candles that illuminate them on Holy Wednesdays and Thursdays. The 5 beautifully crafted simulacra will be carried in procession on the night between Good Thursday and Friday.

The Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Martyrs, declared a minor basilica in 1987, houses an image of the Madonna dei Martiri brought by the Crusaders in 1188. It holds significant historical and artistic value, with its original Romanesque architectural structure from the 12th century. However, it underwent unfortunate neoclassical renovations in 1830.

(Translated by Google) Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Martiri (11th-12th century), guarded by the Franciscan Friars Minor and is the most venerated church in Molfetta. Due to its notable dedication to the Marian cult, it was elevated to the status of Minor Pontifical Basilica in 1987. The structure, in neoclassical style, is composed of a central nave, with the ceiling decorated with recessed plaster rosettes and two separate side naves, from central, with enormous columns. Inside, on the main marble altar, there is the Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary which, according to tradition, was brought by the Crusaders. Here we also find the simulacrum, at eye level, which every year (8 September) is carried in procession ending with the characteristic "sea festival"; at the foot of the statue there is a votive lamp perpetually powered by oil which is donated every year, in rotation, by the parishes of the city of Molfetta. To be observed, in the presbytery, the characteristic monolithic altar, the ambo and the baptistery. Behind the main altar there is a 19th century walnut choir. In the left transept of the main altar there is a faithful reproduction of the Holy Sepulcher (1503) with a marble statue of the Dead Christ inside. The beautiful monumental organ is located on the entrance door. Attached to the Sanctuary, crossing the cloister, you can admire the Crusaders' Hospital, dating back to the year 1095 and perfectly preserved, made up of three corridors of pillars on which the arches that support the vault rest.

(Translated by Google) The Basilica of the Madonna dei Martiri is a church in the city of Molfetta (Bari). The construction of the primitive nucleus of the church (corresponding, in today's layout, only to the area occupied by the main altar) began in 1162. The current church, in fact, does not coincide with the original one because around 1830 the sacred building underwent significant changes. The church, proclaimed a minor basilica in 1987, houses paintings inside including an image of the Madonna dei Martiri, transported by the Crusaders in 1188, particularly dear to the people of Molfetta, especially the sailors.

Church
Nestled in the charming village of Molfetta, the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Pianto, also known as the Church of Death, is a fascinating historical site that dates back to around 1141. Originally built on the remnants of an earlier church dedicated to Santa Maria del Principe, it served as a burial ground for many years. This unique church was once home to Cistercian nuns and has a rich history tied to its role in honoring the deceased.
(Translated by Google) Information found online: The Church of Death, or Santa Maria del Pianto, is a place dedicated to the cult of the dead, and is located at the end of the street of the same name, in the ancient village of Molfetta. In ancient times it belonged to the Cistercian nuns and was called Santa Maria del Principe. The church is mentioned for the first time in a parchment dated 1143. It hosted the nuns of Sant'Angelo until 1573, the date of their move to the new structure. Subsequently, in 1613, the old church of Santa Maria del Principe, located in the city on the road of San Lorenzo or Sant'Orsola, was "destroyed and ruined". It took its current name in 1614, when it was handed over to the Archconfraternity of Death, who restored it. It was rebuilt and opened for worship in 1618 and took the name of the Church of Death. The writing on the portal says: "Insepui turam pauperum confraternitas mortis D. A.D. 1621". On the back it says: "Hoc fratrum coetus Morti posvere sacellum ut libitina suas tollat amica faces-1640". Inside, it says: "D.O.M. (Translated by Google) THERE IS SOME NEAPOLITAN IN THE CANVASES The church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, the city's new cathedral since 1785, was born in the 17th century as the church of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola, annexed to the Jesuit College. The six chapels that open on the sides of the large central nave are enriched by valuable works created by renowned Neapolitan artists. Among these, the two large paintings at the foot of the presbytery stand out: the Assumption by Corrado Giaquinto from Molfetta (1747) and the Addolorata by Fedele Fischetti from Naples (1778). The barrel vault is decorated with tempera paintings by Michele Romano (1842-1936).
