History Museums
Donner Memorial State Park, located in Nevada County, offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. The park is home to the Emigrant Trail Museum which recounts the tragic story of the Donner Party and the history of Chinese railroad workers. Visitors can explore rugged trails that wind through pine forests and marvel at breathtaking mountain vistas. The park also provides opportunities for winter activities like snowshoeing.
We did the China Cove Trail at the park as well as the visitor center, and it was very beautiful nice 3.5 mile hike. Everyone at the visitor center was so nice. They told us about the rainbow bridge to go visit up on Donner pass. Highly recommend stopping here.
Tammera L — Google review
One of the tragic stories of the pioneer west and California told here. A small museum and gift shop with a short nature trail and walk to 2 of the cabin sites of the Donner parties. One cabin site is on the nature trail while the other is near the large and imposing Pioneer monument statue. The primary/actual site of Donner family is about six miles away from the visitor center and easily accessed off the highway and recommended to visit. They will give you a map to that site.
Britt W — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful with scenic trails and lake views—perfect for a quick nature escape. You only have to pay ten dollars for the entrance fee and there is plenty of parking. You can bring your own food and have a picnic and take swim in the crystal, clear emerald water.
Thuy M — Google review
Donner Memorial State Park is an amazing place with easy access to hiking and biking trails, cool fishing spots, and delightful camping. While very challenging to use Reserve California and actually get a spot, if you are lucky enough to secure one you will have an enjoyable time.
Brandon P — Google review
$10 charge for the State Park. A beautiful park with a horrible and amazing story. I have always heard about the Donner Party, but did not know the whole story. Highly recommend you spend a few minutes watching the video in the theater. We walked up to the pioneer statue and then the quick loop near the visitor center. It was a peaceful walk among the trees and by the creek.
Miam C — Google review
This is a small park on the edge of the lake. The memorial has a small exhibit area showing the history of the region. A very dated video about the Donner party is shown in the theater. This was a bit disappointing. There are numerous picnic locations along the lake road with parking. There is a walking path along the lake that keeps you away from the cars. It was a nice stop for an hour or two.
Susan H — Google review
Nice area to connecting to history and nature. We walked the trail along the lake for a bit. It is gorgeous. Easy trail. We also visited the historical museum and saw the Donner statue. A good spot to visit near the Tahoe area.
Kimberly S — Google review
I just visited yesterday. Good place to spend time close to nature. Great view but I think the park is not so organised, directions are not enough for understanding different spots. Overall good.

Nestled in a valley between the Sierra Nevada mountains, Donner Lake is a serene destination with sandy shores and clear waters fed by snowmelt and natural springs. Visitors can partake in various water activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The area also offers boat rentals at the Donner Lake Watersports & Marina for those looking to explore the lake.
Beautiful lake and extremely peaceful. Saw kayakers and triathlon athlete’s training in the lake.

Clean lake, beautiful scenery, lots of water front activities, lots of trails to explore. A wonderful place for vacation for all seasons.

What a beautiful place. Our dog Greta loves the water and the peacefulness of this area. Anytime she sees the water she is ready to jump in. We walked around the east side of the lake and stopped about a mile from the entrance. Greta kept pulling on her leash anytime we got near the shore. Our daughter’s dog Kodak also loves the lake. Kodak lives in Truckee and has been to the lake many times. The walk we took was after a wonderful lunch for my daughter’s birthday and Father’s Day at Gar Wood’s.
Dom S — Google review
We took a drive up to Truckee and decided to visit donner lake. Best decision we made. Such a beautiful lake with vistas of the train tracks. We went to the beach and of course $8 a person. So we decide to hurry on back and found one of the many many mini docks. We chilled and sat all by ourselves for a while. So lovely.
Enrique V — Google review
Oh my! We’re not in Kansas anymore ToTo! This magical place seems like you have stepped out of the wardrobe into an enchanted fairytale. So peaceful and so beautiful I could have stayed and just lost myself there. I will definitely be going back for more hiking and snowshoeing. If you do either this is a fairly easy trail. Snowshoeing the trail is groomed and easy to go off the trail if you like trailblazing for more of a challenge.
CoCo — Google review
Small beautiful lake surrounded by snow covered hills. The beach had restroom, cafe and parking lot. Wonderful place for family outing, kyaking, speed boats and game facility like Tennis, basketball, etc.
Suresh P — Google review
We came through from Carson City. Very lovely spot to stop and enjoy the scenery. Visited the shoreline and West End Beach. Would been nice most of the beach wasn’t covered in snow but we played in it an enjoyed ourselves while we were there. Would plan for a little fishing trip here as well when I get the chance. Beautiful, peaceful and tranquil place to relax and find a spot to just enjoy nature.

West End Beach is a 10-acre recreational park that serves as a favorite summer destination for locals. It offers a sandy beach area, sports courts, boat rentals, and a snack bar. The amenities include basketball and tennis courts, volleyball courts, covered pavilions for reservation, fishing areas, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, and boat storage. Visitors can also rent kayaks, paddle boats, and stand-up paddleboards to enjoy the boating area.
$15 per adult. The place is clean, not crowded, and has plenty of barbecue grills and picnic tables — perfect for families or anyone looking to relax and enjoy the water. As soon as you get into the water with your kayak, paddleboard, etc., head to the right side of the beach. You'll find the Donner River — just go under the bridge and keep paddling. It’s an amazing experience! You’ll be gliding through the beautiful backyard views of local homes. Just remember to respect the residents and keep things peaceful, and you’ll have a great time. We loved it and will definitely be back!

Great playgrounds for kids. Great beach, snack shack, lifeguards in summer. Its also a good spot for cold water immersion is that’s your thing.
Peter F — Google review
Clear water and super scenic view! This particular beach is pricey. You'll have to pay around $20 per adult. But the beach is clean, there is boat and kayak rentals. Two kids grounds with slides and swings. A place for volleyball, basketball court, tennis court. You can buy some basic drinks and snacks there. The main point is shallow shore you can let kids roam in the water without too much worry, lifeguards active on site. Overall a nice place. Oh did I mention barbecue pits? 😉 I do recommend to visit it for a season at least once!
Dmitry C — Google review
Great family park, just remember to bring cans only no bottles. Plenty to do, volleyball, soccer, tennis, pedal boats and more
Chester B — Google review
Lovely little place to spend some time away, I will say watch out because even though it's not Tahoe, it gets crowded fast. But staff is friendly and it's a beautiful view
Caleb M — Google review
Great place to take your family. Only thing is the fee to get in was a little much if you have a big group. Should have a group fee and not individual fee per person.
April S — Google review
We have drive past Donner Lake dozens of times over the years, always on our way to someplace else on I-80. But one summer day we decided to stop. What a gorgeous, clear, crisp, refreshing lake! The water energized us. This beach was full of people enjoying the day at the lake and had a relaxed, family vacation day feel. Just be prepared for the steep entrance fee. This is not a free public beach.
Ranae W — Google review

Swimming pool
The Truckee-Donner Community Swimming Pool, also known as the Aquatics Center, is a fantastic facility that offers a range of amenities for swimmers of all ages. It features a 10-lane competition lap pool measuring 25 yards and an 89-degree warm-water pool. Additionally, there are separate pools for adults and kids.
Amazing, separate pools for adults and kids! The kids pool is 3 pools in one: a river-float pool in an oval (3.5-ft deep), a children's play pool with engaging fountains, water features, and "safe landing slide" (2"-3' deep), and a single swim lane next to another swim lane with a basketball hoop at one end and a fun waterside at the other (4-4.5-ft deep) -- each separated by a thin wall. The water temperature in the kids pool is like bath water. The adult pool, with plentiful swim lanes, starting blocks, springboard, and even a climbing rope(!), is refreshingly cool when you get in and just the right temperature for a vigorous workout. My kids loved it and gained a lot of confidence in their swimming abilities by playing in such a diverse, yet shallow setting.
Steven T — Google review
The swimming pool and facilities are first-rate. No complaints, we are very lucky to have such a beautiful pool in our community. There are two pools, one for swimming laps and a rec pool for the kiddos
HiEd T — Google review
Been a cool place to watch high school swim meets. Plenty of room.
Robert H — Google review
Wonderful community pool. Definitely lots of space for swim meets. Well maintained, and great setup overall. Looks like there's a cute swim area for little ones, too. Beautiful!
J H — Google review
Great community pool. Indoor/outdoor setup. In the summer they open a wall of glass and set up lounge chairs outside. In the winter, a great place to relax after a day of skiing. Unique children pools, with a circular tidal pool, Central bubble pool, play pool and large play pool with corkscrew slide. In addition there is a full lap pool. Food as well, which is good and cheap.
David S — Google review
10-lane 25 yard pool. Well maintained. Locker rooms are on the small side but adequate. A popular place for lap-swimming. Can be crowded at opening; expect to share a lane. Opens at 6 am M-F, 7 am Saturday, 1 pm Sunday.
D. L — Google review
cool building with great activities. Cold water though (for it being advertised as heated) they also make you have a reusable swim diaper which is fine but we didn't have one and they only had a few sizes so I had to buy a $13 too small reusable diaper. I don't mind buying one but please have sizes to choose from!
Jacqueline S — Google review
Fantastic swimming facility offering a lap pool for swim teams, training and racing as well as a seperate children's development pool. I feel fortunate to have such an amazing swimming I'll ng facility in our town and our kids love utilizing the pool as much as possible. The locker rooms are always clean and perfect for changing and showering after a swim. This facility enhances Truckee and makes our community a better place.

Additionally, there are facilities such as fitness centers, tennis clubs, equestrian centers, and miles of biking and hiking trails.
Had the BEST time at the Marina on the lake. We swam and SUP'd all day. The people were also so nice! A super nice man in line at the check in offered to make us his guests. What a great place!

The courts are in great shape. The staffing is unknowable about tennis and sucks at giving players proper rankings.

Crazy expensive for what you get. Its no better than our country rec centers back home in fact most of them are better. We pay like $3-5 a day per person to get all access at home this was $16 per person and then half thw activities were not included. Everything was nice and clean but really not affordable to go back and really wasn't anything special to do or see.

Gym, lap and rec pool, sauna, jacuzzi, equestrian center, tennis club, bicycle rental and miles of trails, boat rentals on Dinner lake marina. Great place in the summer and certainly on winter with downhill and x-country skiing.
Nadia B — Google review
(in winter) If you prefer to drive any distance longer than a driveway, it will be fine for you. For people who prefer to spend less time in their cars, they will be frustrated or disappointed with the whole area.
Kristina P — Google review
Trout creek recreation center is a great poolside location if you are wanting to get away from the wind on the lake. Be ready for tons of kids however, they have a bar outside to tame the nerves.

Bike Truckee is a centrally located bike shop that offers excellent service and advice for both locals and out-of-towners. The staff, Dennis and Rachel, are known for their helpfulness in selecting bikes and accessories, providing spot-on advice, and taking great care of customers. Customers have praised the shop's friendly and knowledgeable staff as well as its convenient location near paved trails along the Truckee River and mountain bike trails.
Dennis and Brent were fantastic throughout the whole experience. My wife and I are experienced riders,l but had no idea how many beautiful road and mountain bike trails there are across town. Both Brent and Dennis spent a ton of time talking with us to make sure we had the best experience in the Truckee/Tahoe area- and we did! And their prices are very competitive compared to local shops. The part that impressed me the most is when they spent 15-20 minutes making sure my mother found an e-bike that was just the right size/fit for her needs, trying out 3-4 bikes. They also offer bike trailers so our son could join us on this family outing! Because of Bike Truckee, we had a great experience on the Legacy trail and made lasting memories. Thank you Bike Truckee for making this family trip so special. Jeremy and Sara 5/5

My wife’s bike broke down on our trip to Truckee. I checked with bike shops in the area. Dennis and Rachel at Bike Truckee were the most helpful. We went to the shop and they took time to help us pick out a new bike explaining the features and benefits. They also helped with accessories to help make the bike more enjoyable. All their advice was spot on as they enjoy the sport. They took such great care of us, I have already recommended others to them from out of town. I am also buying another bike from them. Great to see such great service and friendly people in business. I highly recommend them. The Truckee River Legacy Trail is right next to their shop. This is a must ride beautiful trail. Rent a bike from them if you don’t have one. You will love it. There are places to stop and picnic by the river or on one of the benches or tables on the trail. It is mostly flat and follows the Truckee River through the pine trees.
Jeff F — Google review
I highly recommend this fantastic 5++++ stars local Truckee business!! I stopped by Bike Truckee to ask about renting an e-bike for AMBBR (ride about Lake Tahoe for LLS). Even though they were officially closed, co-owner Dennis was there and was happy to talk to me. Over the next two weeks, I rented an e-bike on 3 occasions. Each time, co-owners Dennis and Rachel plus their staff members were incredibly helpful with explaining how the bikes operated, sharing riding path options, and ensuring I had a good fitting helmet. Dennis and Rachel are very knowledgeable and very willing to provide advice and answer questions. The overall renting experience was fantastic! I then decided to purchase an e-mountain bike. Dennis was so great helping me select the right bike! He took a lot of time to explain how each bike worked and adjusted the suspension system for my size. Rachel also helped me with selecting pedals, gloves, a saddle bag, and providing additional information such as how to use the walk mode. They also installed a mirror, bike rack and side panels. I was there about 4 hours, and I never felt like they were done helping me even after the sale was complete. They asked that I come back after a couple of rides, and they would make other adjustments as needed. Great people and service!
Trish H — Google review
Outstanding, in every respect. Friendly and knowledgeable staff provided great advice and service. The equipment was in really good condition. Exactly what we needed for our trip. The shop is in the perfect location to jump on the paved trail along the Truckee river or head up behind the store to some great mountain bike trails. We will Definitely be back.
C P — Google review
They were so accommodating for our 6 yr old. They even provided water bottles which was helpful since we were from outta town. They gave great directions and recommendations on trails we could take to snag some food mid ride in Glenshire at the pizza company. Bikes in great condition and exceeded our needs. Fairly priced as well. We would recommend.

Ice skating rink
Truckee Ice Rink is a delightful family-friendly destination for ice skating during the winter season. Operated by Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks, this public rink offers traditional skating hours as well as a calendar full of events. The admission prices are reasonable, and renting ice skates is convenient. The rink also hosts team hockey games and accommodates large groups with great staff service.
Great ice skating rink! Fun for friends and family and nice staff! The Ice is real and amazing to skate on and skates are very good quality! Clean and safe place, definitely recommend!
Olivia — Google review
We recently visited this ice skating rink and were extremely disappointed with the experience. While the skates seemed comfortable at first, they quickly caused severe irritation and bruising on my kids' ankles, even leading to bleeding. We had to leave after just 20 minutes of skating. When we reported this to the staff, they showed no concern or willingness to help. Additionally, the place is quite expensive for the poor quality of service and equipment provided. I do not recommend this place, and we will definitely not be returning.
Luis V — Google review
Just be aware that they now charge every person with you to enter even if you’re not skating. I took my two daughters and they charged me full price to get in to watch. Money grab.
Timothy S — Google review
I love how small and family friendly this place is! Reserving online was very easy so when we arrived we were all set. Admission for an adult is $10.00 and for my 4 & 11 year old it was $8.00 & $9.00. It was only $9.00 total for all 3 of us to rent ice skates. I did see others bring thier own as well! The ice skates were actually in good condition despite what other people have said. I would love to go back in the evening just to skate with the outdoor lights they have set up. It's a cute place to have fun as a family or even going on a date! We will definitely be returning!
Cortney N — Google review
Nice time and well run. They let the ice get pretty rough before sending in the Zamboni.
Tiner P — Google review
Came here during winter holidays with my kids. On the positive, staff is very friendly and the price is reasonable. Negatives: skates are old, place is relatively small and ice quality is pretty bad. We likely visited during peak times and it was very crowded with some reckless heavy weight skaters.
Eldar K — Google review
Awesome little rink! A few more warming areas outside, like a propane heater or two, would make it 5 stars. Nice people, reasonable price, fun for all
Christina ( — Google review
this review is just based on the online booking system which is terrible. very annoying & troublesome to book online & there is no other option. you have to go back & forth through the calendar a million times just to try to see what is even available & then redo it all for each person you want to book for. good luck trying to do it from your iphone. and there's no one to answer the phone to help it's just a recording telling you to book online. hopefully the place is good after the trouble booking... will update later.

Jax At The Tracks is a retro-inspired diner located in downtown Truckee, offering a nostalgic setting for a satisfying brunch experience. The menu features classic American dishes such as milkshakes, burgers, and meatloaf, along with an extensive breakfast selection including egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, and granola. Known for its dedication to using fresh ingredients and providing friendly service, Jax at the Tracks guarantees a dining experience reminiscent of the golden age of diners.
We had a great meal! Everything was hot and fresh. It wasn't a terribly long wait, about 20 minutes. The waiter brought us out complimentary fries for the wait but then we received our food shortly after anyways. Would go back to try their other items!
Julia — Google review
Breakfast experience — room for improvement I visited for breakfast and was not impressed. I can’t speak for the burgers, but the breakfast item I ordered—one of the menu’s featured dishes—was large yet felt like a mix of flavors that didn’t quite work together. That’s my personal opinion, and I understand others may see it differently. While some reviews are very critical, I believe this place has real potential to be great. A bit of refinement to the menu and a friendlier approach from the staff could make a big difference.
Sergio S — Google review
Good greeting when we arrived. Seated right away. Service was ok, food ok and decor was a dinner decor. Just didn’t feel that dinner type vibe from the staff and so on. Maybe get more involved with patrons and tell their story of the place and what brought them to work there. Engage more and more welcoming. I would come back again for a second try.
Jorge R — Google review
Oh Wow!! What a rare gem in this cozy diner. Ran into this place during a Tahoe Christmas trip. Such a great atmosphere! The food was great. The pulled pork burger hit the spot in the wintery weather. Everyone was full of smiles and very greeting. Right out of a TV show. Ordered a fountain style milk shake just for the fun of it. Even the other diners were smiling and very hospitable. I would gather this is a go to for the locals. This will be a certain repeat stop every time I'm in the Truckee Tahoe area! Thank you Jax at the Tracks for a great additional memory to a great Christmas vacation. Will definitely be back!

Good food. Good music. Good people. I don't like paying for parking, but I'm happy to do what it takes to grab a meal here whenever I'm in town

It's an old refurbished railroad dining car. Period decor, nice staff, great food! You gotta try the Vanilla Caramel shake! It's the bomb! Side note... We arrived right after Rob Lowe left.
Dennis R — Google review
We ate breakfast here on a Monday morning. The atmosphere is that of an old diner which was charming. The server was attentive and we were waited on quickly. Both of us ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict which had been featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. This was also served with hashbrowns. Our food was warm at best, the hashbrowns definitely had not come off the griddle but seemed to have been sitting for a while as they were very chewy. The eggs Benedict was warm and the hollandaise sauce was broken. Overall food was very underwhelming. Maybe just a bad day ?
Tamie N — Google review
Awesome breakfast spot in Truckee in an authentic diner car. This was a great place for a group with their large menu and reasonable prices for large portions. We loved the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict that came with avocado and hash browns, the BLAT, All Day Addiction (plate with mushrooms & goat cheese, as well as the sandwich), the Jax Torta and Burger.

We squeezed right into squeeze in! Service was fast and helpful the serving are big we got two order of the french toast it was delicious but sharing one would have been perfect, everything was very good though. Definitely squeeze in here if your looking for a brunch spot in Truckee!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but the service and food here was insanely awesome. I think this was probably the best breakfast I’ve had in my life. I got the breakfast sandwich with cheesy potatoes, it was absolutely delicious. On top of that our server Parish went above and beyond, checking in on us, making sure we had enough sauce, and was very attentive. He even saw how our progress was and proactively brought boxes to help us pack up our meals. I come from NYC and I have high standards, the service was by far the best I have ever experienced.

We came in for breakfast and loved the fun atmosphere (Signing the walls was fun!) and delicious food. Our server did a great job as well. The portions were large; we weren’t able to eat it all.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This place is an absolute gem! Squeeze In is one of the most fun and unique brunch experiences I’ve had. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with an explosion of character — graffiti-covered walls, quirky art, alien cutouts, stickers, and dollar bills signed by past visitors. It’s the kind of place where every inch tells a story. The tables are just as eclectic, decorated with everything from family photos to checkerboard patterns, making each dining spot feel one-of-a-kind. The atmosphere is vibrant, casual, and a little chaotic in the best possible way — it feels like part diner, part art project, part time capsule. Service was friendly and laid-back, perfectly matching the vibe. The menu is huge and creative, with tons of options for both traditional brunch lovers and those looking for something adventurous. The cocktail and mimosa selections looked especially fun. This isn’t your cookie-cutter brunch place — it’s a destination full of personality where you can relax, laugh, and enjoy a hearty meal. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Squeeze In is absolutely worth the stop!

Always a good choice for downtown Truckee. Food is great, people are great. Seating is a bit of a squeeze (it’s in the name). Maybe not the best for large groups unless you want to be a separate tables of 4.

Great place for breakfast! Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. We ate here twice in 3 days. Now we were here in October and didn't have to wait long for a table, in high season I hear this place is packed!

Cottonwood Restaurant & Bar is a beloved dining spot located in a historic ski lodge, offering diverse cuisine and a deck with stunning city views. The menu features an array of options including steaks, pasta, seafood, and vegetarian dishes, as well as family-style meals. The restaurant's interior exudes a bustling atmosphere with its bar adorned with vintage ski gear and photographs.
Sometimes, you find a restaurant that just makes you comfortable. Cottonwood is that type of place. From the moment you enter, it feels almost like home. It has the "old Tahoe" feelings, too. I didn't realize how much i missed the old days. The food was very good. The servers were very friendly. I had a wonderful meal.

My best friend and I arrived for a 7:15 pm reservation and were immediately seated on the outdoor patio as we requested. We were greeted by Kate, who hands-down has to be the best server in this area. She was kind, knowledgeable, friendly & made us feel very welcome. Throughout the meal, she checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed for dinner. The assistant staff were outstanding as well, from refilling our water to delivering beverages from the bar, and delivering our food. Everything was calm, fluid, delicious, rustic-simple-elegance, efficient, & top-notch. We never felt rushed and we had a lovely evening looking over downtown Truckee. Every table had an amazing view. We were able to pay our bill from our table using an online service that was streamlined and simple. Easiest platform I’ve ever used to pay a bill. Food- we ordered the bread (date butter, yes thank you) My best friend had the French onion soup. We shared the cauliflower appetizer. I had the buratta & squash. Everything was 10/10. We are not vegan but just wanted something light tonight.

We recently had my daughter's wedding and reception at Cottonwood. The service, ambience, and food were all fabulous. I love how the restaurant worked with us to plan the best possible menu for our budget and the right quantities. They were able to accommodate a dj/dancing, a photo booth, outdoor ceremony, and indoor dinner. Everything was perfect.

First of all the staff is great, amazing service and great views. We got the date butter, jumbo chicken wings, french onion soup, Caesar salad with chicken and the chicken burger with truffle fries. Date butter is a must try soooo freaking good, lactose intolerant me could not stay away, definitely worth two lactaids. The salad portion is huge- can be full meal for two lol. Surprised with how fresh and crunchy the lettuce was. The onion soup just hit the spot for a great belly warming on a cold night. There was a crazy random hail storm that afternoon, snow in july who would think! The rose paired nice with it. The wings & burger was good too, fries 🌟🌟🌟 The only reason I dint put a 5star, is just personal preference as I like food a little spicy and none of it (esp the wings) was that. As the place is super popular, do make reservations.

We've had brunch and dinner here while visiting Truckee and loved it. The food is great, the staff friendly, and the view from the outside seating is fantastic.
Janet B — Google review
Worth a visit for dinner! At night you can see the sign that reads Hilltop Lodge from downtown. A quick journey over the river and through the woods, on a bumpy, dark and sketchy road, leads you to an old building that looks abandoned. Inside is minimal ski decor, Wood floors, round wooden tables and chairs that probably from the 70s, but it's clean and the people are nice. Each table has a view of downtown Truckee. The lighting is dim, so you'll need your phone flashlight to read the menu. The service is Excellent. Friendly, fastakd attentive. Three different people helped our waitress deliver drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Our group shared the Brussels sprouts, broccolini, house-made bread with fig butter, elk loin, and rack of lamb. The bread and butter were warm, fluffy, and creatively displayed. The elk loin tasted like tender beef with a tangy glaze. The rack of lamb was seasoned perfectly and dressed with a berry demi-glaze. The Brussels sprouts….. they're still Brussels sprouts, but they did their best. Bacon bits and thinly sliced apples definitely helped. Overall, the Cottonwood is worth a dinner visit. The rustic charm, great service, and delicious food will make you forget you're eating in the dark.

My husband and I just had a wonderful 39 year anniversary at Cottonwood Restaurant in Truckee. This has always been a special place for us but tonight was magical. The food was so delicious, our waiter Laurie was wonderful and to top it off....the most lovely sunset. We also received an anniversary card signed by staff and a gift card to come back which we definitely will. Forgot to mention we had the traditional caesar salad and we ate it old school with our fingers.....yummy!! Thanks for the memory!

We hadn’t been to Cottonwood since before the pandemic. I’d heard it had struggled but it is definitely up to prior standards. The Brussel Sprouts were a delightful surprise, sweet and cooked with apples and bacon. I had the ginger carrot soup which was strong on the ginger, my husband had the French Onion soup which was really good and not too cheesy. My salmon was so big I almost couldn’t finish it- all the portions were large but this was the largest cut of fish I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It was perfectly cooked and had a really nice seasoning. My husband had the short ribs, also a good size portion, and he said it just melted in his mouth. If you haven’t been, Cottonwood sits on the old town hill by the “Hilltop” sign and at night you over look old town Truckee, all lit up. It’s a great view, very chill atmosphere and great food. Good wine list too!

Fast food restaurant
Burger Me is a classic burger joint with multiple locations in the Reno/Truckee region, offering a variety of locally sourced burgers including beef, bison, poultry, and seafood options. The eatery also serves shakes and malts to complement their delicious burgers. With casual indoor and outdoor dining options, Burger Me provides a cozy setting for patrons to enjoy their meals.
Delicious burgers with many possible modifications. You select from a variety of many burgers including chicken, bison, elk ahi tuna, turkey and a selection of hot sandwiches. The best part is that you can modify the bread to a pretzel bun, choose from 7 different cheeses, and add mushrooms, turkey chili, avocado, grilled onions and much more. They offer a decent variety of fix ins such as the typical onion rings, fries, and sweet tater fries. Milkshakes are always an option too. The multiple times I have visited Burger Me for a bite, I have only received the best of service. Seating can be chosen from a their indoor section or the outdoor patio that gives a great view of the miniature valley. I highly recommend the cowboy burger or chicken burger adjusted to your liking, and definitely try the solid-hearty turkey chili!
Seann M — Google review
I finally had the chance to visit BurgerMe in Truckee and try their famous Cowboy Burger, and let me just say—it absolutely lived up to the hype. Located right on the main street in the heart of Truckee’s historic downtown, the place already has an inviting vibe. The moment I walked in, I noticed how full it was, which for me is always a sign that the food is both popular and consistently good. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, even though they were clearly busy handling a big crowd. They made sure everyone felt taken care of, which added a really positive touch to the whole experience. Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the Cowboy Burger. This burger comes stacked with bacon, crispy onion, jalapeños, fresh lettuce, juicy tomato, BBQ sauce, smoked cheddar, all nestled in a soft brioche bun. The flavor combination was bold and layered—the cheddar and bacon paired perfectly with the sweetness of the BBQ sauce and the slight kick from the jalapeños. The crispy onions added just the right crunch. One thing I really appreciated was that BurgerMe lets you choose the doneness of your patty, which shows they care about tailoring the burger to your taste. Mine came out perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. Overall, the experience felt like more than just grabbing a burger—it was the atmosphere, the energy of the place, and the kindness of the staff. If you’re in Truckee and craving something hearty and flavorful, the Cowboy Burger at BurgerMe is a must-try.

My group was excited to hit up a burger spot on my last vacation night. I came with a party of 7, so we did order a ton of food. I will say that while I was annoyed the burgers did not come with fries, their menu was on the cheaper side compared to other spots around here. I still strongly believe the burger should include fries, but they minimized that problem as I did eat enough to fill up. I ordered the elk NV burger which was a disappointed. I ordered the burger medium rare and you can tell by the picture that is not medium rare. That burger was more dry than this joke ha ha ha. Not juicy at all, overcooked and the bacon on the burger was better than the actual beef patty. We got a lot of fries, and they were alright. I prefer the regular fries to the sweet potato, but I enjoyed both. The burger really was a let down, and they missed a part of the order forgetting one of the children’s grilled cheese sandwiches. We did not get to correct this because we had takeout and didn’t see there was an item missing until getting to the hotel which was a bit of a drive. This was upsetting of course because a kid did not get her meal so we all shared in order to make up. The fries were decent but not enough to make up for the overcooked burger and missed item. The onion rings were okay but did not have much flavor, I didn’t even care to finish them. Overall, kind of disappointing and the group I was with agreed. I wouldn’t recommend coming here; there are other options for burgers around the area. The atmosphere was not all that great either with next to no seating, but this may be more of a takeout place who knows. We also ordered the chocolate and vanilla shakes;; I got to try the vanilla one which was alright, but I am typically more of a chocolate fan. The place has the prices to be a reasonably good spot, but they did not deliver on the quality part which is why they get a low rating.

This is a nice place to eat along the main strip in Truckee. Parking along the street is $1.50 hour, but it's free after 6pm. Food was delicious. The fries are great... Not soggy. The sweet potato fries are the best. I had the fish n chips and the fish was so good. Service was a bit slow, but they were friendly.
Justin H — Google review
Ordered cowboy and dippa. Each of them was cooked well and ingredient were really fresh. We also got garlic fries and onion rings to share. Everything was delicious except for onion rings. It was overcook and burnt The service is great. We were in the deck and they brought out food to us maybe within 15 mins or less.
Brian C — Google review
These hamburgers do not taste like fast food. The bun is buttery and fries have the perfect crunch. We really enjoyed the salad which had very fresh spring mix. The staff was super friendly at the register and brought water out for our dog. They have a very comfortable patio.
Sharon R — Google review
I like the variety of burgers that they offer. I had the Bison BBQ Burger and it was really good. The portions are really good sized, particularly the fries. If you like garlic fries don't order theirs. If you LOVE garlic with some fries, this one is for you. The regular fries and sweet potato fries are excellent as well. The interior is fine, but the outdoor seating is just a great environment to have a meal. They have Gluten-free options, but be sure to double-check everything is being treated with care if you have Celiac and this isn't just a preference.

A must visit historic city. As part of our trip to South Lake Tahoe, I visited it earlier in 2014 and enjoyed the side shopping at that time. They also have couple of hotels and coffee shops, which no one should miss visiting, especially for coffee lovers.

- 2 pm visit - one other patron in the restaurant - We were a table for 2 - We shared a large summer salad and spinach pockets The spinach pockets were tasty and hot. The summer salad greens were fresh but for $16!! Ouch! For this review…the salad had 1 tangerine wedge, 1/4 walnut and 2 pea-sized goat cheese crumbs. The salad was not even a fraction of the salad ingredients shown on their website. I was disappointed.

Extremely misleading; the Best Pies Pizzeria has given us one of our worst experiences. The pizza and wings were terrible, my six year kid said “this pizza taste like my school pizza”, our waitress noticed we left the pizza behind, no box needed. The bathrooms are disgusting, dirty. They charge a 20% Gratuity on top of your bill, no matter if the service or food is good or not; I was told “because the owner said so, and that this was not a tip”. 2025-review: they offer several single origin coffees. The barrister will discuss them with you. great place! Better the drink-coffee-do-stuff as they stopped offering single origin coffees. 2024-review: You don't expect high-quality coffee in a place like Truckee. There are three espressos to choose from. They had a very good single origin (that might not be there if you come). Skilled barista. Almond Milk. What else do you need? Oh... yes, and sitting outside is pretty amazing because it is off the main street and not so loud. Definetly a good spot to hang out and enjoy coffee.

It was meh, I love drunk coffee do stuff but figured I try something new. It’s okay I wouldn’t go again it’s very loud and crowded which i mean seems good for them but not an atmosphere I like. We came here for breakfast, and got the avocado toast, chorizo burrito, tea latte, and vanilla latte. Everything tasted really good. Knocked one star because the prices are really high -- the most expensive lattes we've had in a while, and even the food servings were very small compared to how much they cost. Overall, though, we were happy with the food. The ambience was quiet, clean, airy, and cozy, just like what you would want from a cafe. And the server was fast, friendly, and efficient too.
Jackie C — Google review
Passed through as a first time customers on the way to Tahoe, the barista who took our order wasn’t willing to walk us through recommendations, seemed inconvenienced by us not being familiar with the menu, and rushed us to order. It wasn’t busy, there was no one behind us. As tourists, we would’ve appreciated the novelty specials listed online to be reflected in the shop for ease. We ordered two iced lavender lattes. They didn’t come with lids which we found odd. The coffee has a very balanced, tasty flavor and we appreciated the house made syrups. Had the barista been more kind & helpful, we would’ve had a better experience. We appreciated the pride flag on the door as a queer couple as well.

Full Belly Deli is a popular spot known for its delicious sandwiches and impressive breakfast menu. Despite not having an extensive breakfast selection, the offerings are satisfying and flavorful. The Gnar Gnar Burrito, Breakfast B.L.T, and Green Eggs and Ham are among the favorites. Established in 2007 by Eric Barton and Tom Marrin, this deli prides itself on serving hearty sandwiches with a friendly atmosphere.
This is the perfect meal. We wanted something light as we were making our way down to Lake Tahoe. The sandwiches are incredible, size as well. I recommend ordering a half unless you eat a lot. I only ate a half of mine. Sorry, I don’t remember what I ordered. It was good. The cheese steak was reported to be delicious as well. The price was not ridiculous either.

This place is ALWAYS packed—and for good reason! Full Belly Deli is hands down one of my favorite spots in Truckee. The energy here is awesome, and the fact that it’s constantly busy just proves how much people love it. The staff? Super friendly and chill. Even when the line’s out the door, they keep things moving and make you feel welcome every time. And the food… wow. The sandwiches are massive, loaded with flavor, and worth every penny. My go-to is the tuna sandwich—it’s so good I honestly crave it all the time. Perfectly seasoned, hearty, and just the right amount of kick. If you’re in Truckee, do yourself a favor and stop by. Trust me, it’s worth the hype.

I dont know what happen I spent 60 dollars on sandwiches and all of them were horrible two were supposed to be cold but they made them hot and on the side of one it looks burnt they were all super soggy. I've had there sandwiches before through work and they were good. I placed an order online for pick up. I dont think i will order again they were all so bad and not made right. Took three bits and couldnt eat them anymore they were so bad.

Broad selection of choices that are unique. Tends to be a more vinegar or hot undertone. They have beer too. Not hard liquor. Order at counter or on two laptops to right when you enter. No servers. These were the best breakfast sandwiches we have ever had. Huge portion, a ton of topping options, and fresh ingredients. Very nice sitting area with options for indoor and outdoor seating. 10/10.
Madeleine S — Google review
I found myself exploring the Truckee area after finishing a hike, I was thirsty and wanted a small bite- sadly I got neither as I strolled into Wild Cherries. The place was cozy with a lovely outside seating area. I immediately didn’t care for the “order at the counter” method they have going on. (My personal preference is to sit with available waitstaff) Needless of my feelings I was already there. The next inconvenience was nothing on their menu was cooked to order, it was sandwiches, wraps, quiches, pastries, etc. (for some this may not be an issue) The reason why I did not get to eat was because the line was literally out the door and the staff was in chill vibe, but given it’s a vacation hot-spot I can somewhat understand. I however was not inclined to wait. I felt a need to just provide you feedback on what to expect & what they offer. Please help yourself if you have more patience than me. Happy Waiting!!

Very busy, but worth the wait! Have some patience. Here's what the lemon bar looks like. Rich and decadent. Vegan chili and cornbread is really delicious 😋 too. I like the hot chai latte. They have many choices.

Stumbled upon this gem in the city of Truckee. Best coffee in town. Pastries and breakfast sandwiches were delicious. The quality of bread is just amazing. Friendly staff! Definitely will return if back in the area.

We were in Truckee for a wedding and found this local breakfast spot. Coffee was great, bagels were amazing, vibes were immaculate. I cannot recommend a morning here more!

Hands down the best blueberry croissant in the world. We all had something different, it was all exceptionally good. Fresh baked breads and pastries, and bagels. The vegetarian chilli was great with the chips. My caramel latte was pretty good as well.

Blue Coyote Bar & Grill is a popular spot in downtown Truckee, offering a laid-back dining experience combined with the lively atmosphere of a neighborhood bar. The cozy and inviting ambiance, along with its friendly staff and incredible menu featuring classic appetizers, cheesesteaks, burgers, and sandwiches make it a beloved hangout for locals.
Food came out nice and hot fries were to eat crisp also chicken tenders. The Baja burger was good with flavor.

Honestly, it was okay. I called in to order, and the girl on the phone was incredibly friendly. It was a simple phone call, and the girl assured me it would take 15 minutes. When I went to pick it up, they weren’t really busy, so it was a quick pick-up, which is nice. However, when I got home and looked at my food, it was a bit disappointing. The bread was incredibly small, and there was so much bacon that it wasn’t a good ratio. On top of that, half of the bacon was burnt, and I know some people like that, but for me, it felt inedible. I also ordered fried pickles, and some of them weren’t fully cooked. They still had raw batter when I took a bite. It’s a bar, so my expectations weren’t too high, but it was still a bit disappointing.
Victoria T — Google review
Don't let the strip retail center vibe fool you. This place is pretty good! You seat yourself. The waitress usually comes to greet you within a couple minutes. There are a million tv's with every kind of sport showing. You literally can't go wrong with wings, burgers or pizza. I had the Jalisco Cheesesteak this last time and it was delicious.

Best wings I have had outside of buffalo. And I’m a buffalo native. The staff is amazing and it is never too busy. Bar is a blast and food is amazing with even better prices. Must go to bar!!

Had a nice lunch with a party of 12. Our server got all our orders, brought out drinks and food without having anyone waiting long. Typical bar/grill food. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger which was tasty and cooked to my liking. Good food and atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon, thank you.
Cassie A — Google review
We stopped in mid-day on a summer Sunday and there were only a handful of other customers in the restaurant. First the good - we had a friendly waitress and great service. Now the hard part, I hate giving bad reviews for food but I ordered a BLT and it was horrible. I thought it sounded like a great summer day sandwich but was disappointed. When you think of BLT's you imagine a mix of the juice from the tomatoes and mayo dripping down your chin. Not here. The sandwich was served dry - ask for mayo. The bacon was overcooked to the point where it wasn't strips but crumbles. There was way too much lettuce and the pieces were not torn to fit the bread, which was too small for the sandwich. The most disappointing part was, however, the tomato - a super thin slice - barely perceptible. If you try Blue Coyote, try something other than the BLT.
Kathy G — Google review
Came on a Friday night in late June and found a seat at the bar. Vodka drinks were poured decent, local IPA was tasty, burger and onion rings were on point amd most importantly the service was good. Bro bartender was attentive despite having a full bar and me being a new guy in a sea of seemingly locals. Exactly what a guy needed tonight.

Their service has taken a turn for the worse. And the quality of the food they served has followed suit. As a patron for many years the quality has gone down hill while the prices have skyrocketed.

Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort is a family-friendly destination that caters to beginners and young children. The resort offers learn-to-ski programs and beginner hills, making it an ideal place for those new to winter sports. It provides a personal touch with ski lift tickets designed for parents with non-skiing children, as well as opportunities to meet the ski patrol dogs.
We tried downhill skiing here the week before Christmas. It was my 8-year-old daughter’s first time skiing, so we got a one hour private lesson at 9am (arrived at 8am to get our rental gear and lift tickets). The staff were friendly and welcoming — even the parking attendants! The instructor was fabulous and knowledgeable, and had my daughter fully ready for the bunny hill within an hour. There wasn’t much snow, so only one trail was open — but we had plenty of fun. There weren’t many people, so we had more room to ski (great for beginners!) Lunch was pretty good, and there was good hot chocolate…
David A — Google review
We had a great spring ski. Will try to come back before snow disappears. Rentals were great quality! Burton boards and boots, still great condition for end of season. Hill was great for beginners! Nice slope to learn on and the rest of mountain was great to challenge them. Snow was exceptional this day. Hills were groomed and had fresh pow pow. Parking was not near the ski lodge but they had a shuttle. Food was good, pricey though!
Denny S — Google review
Great place for families and people who are looking for a relaxed, laid back ski resort. There are lots of happy, friendly customers here. Tahoe Donner has a great ski program that won’t hurt your wallet as much as other places. Kid-friendly - Lots of little kids learning how to ski for the first time. Diaper Changing table in the women’s restroom. Parking is easy and free. There is a constant parking lot shuttle that will drive you to and from the lot to the resort. Lots of outdoor tables and chairs to sit, relax, and talk to new friends.
Karen C — Google review
Great place to go ski during the winter time , great views , love the staff , love the fast friendly service I got there , and yet it is a ways out of Reno going towards California .. but I'd highly recommend this place to anyone
Gary S — Google review
Great place for little ones and beginners to learn! Easy access, friendly staff, and super safe runs to learn on. The bunny slope right by the entrance has a conveyor belt ("magic carpet") that all 3 of our young kids were up for getting on the first time up.
Allan N — Google review
Tahoe Donner is a perfect place for beginners to learn to ski. The bunny slope is long enough that it's great practice and not too boring for others who are teaching a new skier. My boyfriend took a half-day lesson and really enjoyed it. He was skiing very well by day two. The parking is easy and there's a shuttle that takes you right to the front. The food is so much more affordable than other resorts and the lines are minimal. The snow was great when we were there, but obviously it depends on the day!
Dani A — Google review
Friendly neighborhood ski resort. Nice and easy. Great for kids. Superb location in the very middle of Truckee.
Anatoly I — Google review
The best family friendly ski resort in the Tahoe area! Seriously, I think most days there are as many or more kids than adults here. Yes, their runs are much easier than most resorts but that is part of what makes it great for families. I love that most people understand and are patient with parents with kids or solo kid skiers. I also appreciate that for such a small resort they have a good bar.

We just had my 3 year olds birthday here and it was amazing! Totally worth the cost. You get the whole place to yourselves for 2 hours, plus they can decorate and even handle gift bags. The kids had an absolute blast, and I felt like I could actually talk to other adults :) Thanks Irene & team - highly recommend!

A great place to take your younger kids to play any season. Love that the space is indoors especially when it’s cold out and there aren’t many places to take young kids. $10 per person, adult and kids. Under 1 is free.

This is the place of my childhood dreams. I have a very active two year old and something captured his attention the two hours we were here. I also have a four month old and the infant area was so nice! I only regret that I only just found out about this place!

Children can dress up with a pirate ship theme or a princess castle theme. There's a snack room and an art room. There's an indoor play structure, as well as an area for infants to play. They have a train table and science tubes area. Must have a paying adult to accompany the kids. $8 per person. Closed on Mondays. Recommended for children under 6.

My 19-month old grandson loves the KidZone; there is so much to explore and so many toys to play with that are different from what he has at home. He recently realized the walls, painted to look like the skyline, were not real. He loves the train set, at his height, the wind machine, and driving the "ship." Looking forward to outside play this summer.

Donner Lake Marina, located on Donner Pass Road, is a popular spot for renting ski boats, pontoon boats, hydro bikes, and stand-up paddleboards. Visitors can also stay at the nearby Donner Lake Village. Customers have praised the friendly and efficient staff who provide clear instructions on operating the equipment. Families with children particularly enjoy renting pontoon boats and spending quality time together on the lake.
Living near the lake Tahoe area is a blessing. What a beautiful place. We stopped to admire Donner lake, named after the pioneers who endured a stranding after a harsh winter storm in the mid 1800's. We stopped to take a look at the lake again in the evening. The lake is clear and blue. People were still enjoying jet skis, and one person was using a water jet surf board. So cool, unlike the water jet packs I've used. I'll add the short video of this. A peaceful tranquil lake, unlike the hectic shores of lake Tahoe

I was coordinating a boat rental for a client and did quite a bit of research before choosing Donner Lake Watersports. Out of all the options, they had the best prices by far. Their website was clear, informative, and super easy to use—I was able to get most of the information I needed before even picking up the phone. Since I was booking for a large group, there were a lot of moving parts and a handful of changes along the way, which meant I ended up calling several times with different questions. Every single time, the staff was incredibly helpful. Shout out to Vanessa, Taylor, Rob, and Justin- they were all super friendly, patient, and genuinely kind. You don’t always get that kind of customer service, especially during busy season. These guys made the process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!

10 out of 10 would recommend for anyone who is looking to spend time on Donner Lake. The staff is super personable, kind, and efficient. I rented a jet-ski from them and the equipment was top notch. Great experience, and the views from on the lake are breathtaking.

We found this place by chance and ended up renting two days in a row. First, a motor boat and next day kayaks. Friendly, helpful and easy going staff. Boat was super fun, powerful, well maintained. We had an absolute blast. Nearby river is sheltered from the wind and great for kayaking.

This vibrant park not only serves as a thrilling playground for bikers but also actively contributes to local charities, making it a community favorite. With 12 distinct sections tailored to various skill levels and interests—including slopestyle, dirt jumps, dual slalom, pump tracks, and BMX tracks—there's something for everyone.
Truckee Bike Park is where it is at! So many great runs with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to expert - meaning it’s meant for anyone who wants to have a good time. One of the best I’ve been to for sure! The park is well kept and seems clean and new. There is a little shop that opens up there too with some cool stuff. Overall, great place!

Lots of great jumps for skilled riders of all ages. Use of park is free (thank you City of Truckee!). Be careful if you or your kid is less experienced.. it’s easy to get hurt. Highly recommend for brave and adventurous riders.

Awesome experience for kids of all ages. Perfect hangout during the summer, but a secret gem in the fall when it’s less crowded and the skills camps are done. On the lap track, the sprinklers tend to come on around 10:30 to 11:30 so plan accordingly. Energy drinks and gear sold during the weekends, and they have a fundraiser once a year. Great local gathering spot.

Truckee Bike Park is an awesome and large bike park. There are multiple jumps and pump tracks for all skill levels. The park is excellently maintained and I believe there is a full time staff or volunteers that keep the park and jumps in great shape. Great community spot as well for the bike community. One of the best and craziest bike parks I have ever been to and it is all free. Highly recommend visiting if a beginner or an expert.

I covered a distance of approximately 8 miles on that particular day. The pathway I took was a section of the Truckee legacy trail, running alongside the Truckee River. Initially, the visibility was hindered by fog, but after an hour had passed, the atmosphere cleared up and revealed its stunning beauty. The trail attracted numerous individuals and their furry companions who were all amicable in nature.
We walked just over 8 miles that day. The trail is part if the Truckee legacy trail along the Truckee River. At first the fog obscured the view but after an hour, things cleared up. It was beautiful. There were many people and dogs on the trail. All friendly.

If you value your rig and even your car or truck you might want to stay somewhere else. The so-called road - over a mile long - that leads to the campground is a living hell on a motorhome or trailer. Then it gets really bad at the entrance to the campground. Think road moguls. Your fridge will likely swing open. The sad part is that the campsites are large and the views of Northstar are lovely. But just know that your microwave may end up on top of your stove. Sadder is that the corps of engineers doesn’t seem to care. It’s been like this for years.

For a family that travels with a toddler, finding parks is a must to allow them to. Urn out some much needed excess energy. This park has swings, both for toddlers and larger children. It has two different size playgrounds, once again for toddlers and larger children. There is a play train for kids to pretend to be an engineer. There’s a large sandbox with a concrete snake, dinosaurs, and a turtle to climb on. There are picnic tables, restrooms, and what appears to be an actual small train as there are tracks around the park and assorted odds and ends one would see on a ride. Our toddler loved the park and didn’t want to leave!

Guests appreciate the comfortable and well-maintained environment along with friendly and responsive staff. While some minor issues like internet connectivity and limited fitness room hours have been noted, the clean rooms and varied breakfast offerings make for an enjoyable stay.
Wow what an amazing experience! The hotel is newly renovated so the rooms were very nice and had everything I was hoping for. Wireless chargers, smart tv’s for Netflix, walk in tiled shower and very clean rooms with a comfy bed. Staff is very helpful and friendly and the outdoor pool area was perfect for experiencing the outdoors which is what Truckee is known for. Also the bar/restaurant is super convenient if you don’t feel like going into town. Hotel is also about 14 minutes from the lake. I will be visiting again and will be my go-to stay whether it’s travel for business or family trips.

First time in Tahoe and we will most definitely be back! Recently remodeled place, we loved it. Clean and fresh rooms, very convenient water filling station and friendly staff. The towels are huge! Great choice. Maybe it’s just a personal thing but there’s nothing more annoying than going to a hotel and being provided with tiny kid sized towels… both people at the bar area were awesome. Thank you guys! We will definitely be back! Loved the decor as well by the way, also, the hallways smell good :)

Just spent 3 nights at the Martis Valley Lodge. It was a really beautiful hotel, it’s just been renovated and looked amazing. I had a double queen room with a couch, the beds were soooo comfortable, the bathroom had huge mirrors and perfect lighting, the towels were also huge. The best part for me though was the staff. So friendly and welcoming, from the front desk to the bar area. There are some shops / restaurants you can walk to and it’s also close to downtown truckee. Super convenient to get to spots on the lake. Will definitely stay again!!

Our first stay at the Martis Valley Lodge was wonderful! The staff was outstanding during our stay. The room modern, updated, clean and comfortable. Never been at a hotel with bunk beds for the grandkids! Great amenity! Although we didn't have a pet, it's great that the hotel is dog friendly. It just seemed that those guests who did have dogs were friendly too! The overall experience was happy, uplifting and relaxing (by the pools and hot tub!) We plan on staying again - especially with our Hilton Friends and Family discount! :-)

Place was clean and neat. Perfect for a hotel but they didn't have the wifi hooked up when we arrived so after 20 minutes of the nice young man playing with wires it was fixed. Thank you to the night shift. The breakfast was $24 for what other hotel give you for free so that was a rip off. If you have a family of 4 it is cheaper to go to other places for food. All in all very good stay but over priced for what you get. You are basically staying here for the location to the lake and Truckee.

It was very clean and well-appointed for all needs. The back deck overlooking the lake was such a treat, we spent hours out there just taking it in and relaxing. It is also in a good location if you're looking to be closer to the north shore and is about a 50 min drive to the south shore. There are near-by restaurants, grocery stores and shops a short drive away. We will definitely stay here again and look forward to our next trip!

Lakeview pool and lakefront beach club make this a winner! This townhouse is a gem in a quiet, peaceful and beautiful community that sits high above Lake Tahoe with stunning views just a short walk down the street or from the lower pool. Excellent proximity (5 min) to Tahoe City with shops, restaurants and lakefront trails plus a small yet lovely public beach. The private access beach club is not pictured but has gorgeous views, a club house with ping pong, bathrooms, kitchenette, beach volleyball, lounge chairs, picnic tables, a sand beach and lengthy dock with ladders for easy entry or jumping into the lake. Despite an earlier review citing issues with arrival cleanliness, the property was spotless and very comfortable despite warm daily temps in the 80s, though we’d recommend sleeping downstairs where it’s cooler (there are plenty of fans for each bedroom). Also recommend packing beach towels as the listing states. Our family of 4 with two young kids absolutely loved our stay and will be back!

From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place is incredibly well cared for—spotless, fresh, and perfectly clean. You’d never guess it’s pet-friendly; there wasn’t a single trace or smell that pets had ever been there, which we really appreciated. The cabin had every amenity we needed for a comfortable and cozy family stay—perfect for our family of four. The layout was thoughtful, the furnishings were warm and inviting, and the kitchen was well-stocked for meals in. The views from the cabin were nothing short of spectacular, and we loved how close it was to the beaches and local restaurants. It made exploring Lake Tahoe super easy, yet the cabin still felt peaceful and tucked away. Customer service was top-tier—friendly, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process. We’re already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend!
Weston R — Google review
The benefits of the rental were: -Hot tub stayed hot for a week at 104 degrees, and is in a private location behind the house. -Very well stocked kitchen with & pots & pans, dishes & utensils. -Good hearing. -3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms all with showers. -Located 5 min from Safeway and slso easy to drive to Kings beach in less than 10 minutes. Sand Harbor in 30 minutes. -Big comfortable sofa -TVs everywhere even tho we did not use them A few Drawbacks: -Front deck is facing the street and is partially over the driveway so it’s not nice to sit out there. -Lighting is poor. The house really needs a lot more lighting in the main space. -No lake view
Susan H — Google review
This was the perfect cabin! Has everything you’d ever need plenty of beach towels and a bunch of dishes and cookware lots of games really anything you need they had. The view was gorgeous and the decks were awesome. The only thing to note is that the doc they show in the pictures is a fishing doc but there’s plenty of other public docs on the lake! Overall my family had a great experience

This is the second time we have stayed at this property. I highly recommend it. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. It has nice appliances and the kitchen is fitted out well. It has a beautiful view of the lake from the living room. The bathrooms are small but otherwise the property is roomy and very comfortable. I hope to stay here again on my next visit to Tahoe. Bonus is White Caps pizza next door. Delicious pizza!

District government office
The Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District is home to a 9-hole public course that will celebrate its 60th anniversary in the spring of 2021. Originally built by residents, this course has been under various ownerships throughout the years. In 2008, the Truckee Airport District acquired it, preventing its conversion into a housing development. Today, Ponderosa is managed by Truckee and offers great swim classes with dedicated instructors who provide feedback to kids on their progress.
So Beautiful!!! The view is “sacred” - it seems wrong to even speak! Just take it in . Breathe and Feel !
Maria V — Google review
The pool is nice and warm. The rest of the recreation center is lovely. There is beautiful art on display and a warm place to hangout by the indoor fireplace. I highly recommend checking out the butterfly and moth exhibit in the hall, to the right of the main entrance.
Raybies F — Google review
Really great place regardless of the weather for your kids to swim and get a ton of energy out. Got lap swimming for adults and awesome lazy river, cool water features, snack shack everything you could possibly need.
Justin W — Google review
Great swim class instructors here. They always take the time to talk with us at the end of our kids swim lessons about what is working and where they can improve. Watch out for the snack stand though, once your kids discover they gave treats, you’ll get promoted for one after each lesson. There’s a good amount of history here also, it was founded by an Olympic swimmer from Truckee.
Fred M — Google review
An amazing community centre displaying spectacular art work. Great staff members! Basketball, pickle ball & swimming was memorable.

Skatepark
Nestled within the scenic Truckee River Regional Park, the Truckee Skatepark is a fantastic destination for skaters of all skill levels. This free skate park boasts an impressive array of features, including smooth bowls, ramps, and ledges that cater to both beginners and seasoned pros alike. The well-maintained concrete surface and thoughtfully designed elements like rails and mini ramps create an inviting atmosphere for practicing tricks or simply enjoying a laid-back session.
Perfect for Big and Little Kids. Full playground that is infant through adult "kid"friendly. There is a disk golf course, baseball fields, an amphitheater for summer concerts, Rodeo grounds, a basketball court, AND a rental BBQ area by the river for families. OH, not to mention the skateboard park.
Denelle W — Google review
There’s a small bowl that’s fun to pump around in. The sides of the larger bowl are steep, but still cruisable. There’s a waterfall roll-in on either side. The park is just as fun for boards of all types, including Carvers. Updating my review to 3 stars for an “owner” who could learn how to be more inclusive
Michaela G — Google review
The bowl is fun to pump around and the street features on top are decent. The best part is having a good place to skate while up in the mountains.
Vasiliy V — Google review
Mid-size size skate park located in the SE corner of Truckee River Regional Park. Bowl and ramp configuration, good for skateboarding, rollerblading, or scooters. In the winter, the bowl and part of a ramp are sometimes skatable
Mike W — Google review
Fun to shred on a longboard. The steep vert and tight turns make it very fast! And there is a fun paved path to skate nearby
Lost L — Google review
A few kids wanted to check it out. Beautiful day. Cool park.
J L — Google review
Such a cool little park! Especially great for beginners! It's got a unique flow bowl, a little rail, and a couple of ledges! It's also not usually very crowded, making it a good place to learn! My only complaint is that we can't skate during winter.
Dude M — Google review
I am a very beginner rollerskater. The first time I went there I was very much intimidated (the lowest coping drop was still ~5ft). I didn’t think I could do anything there, but still stayed and practiced on the smaller features outside of the bowl, and progressed slowly. By the end of the second session, I was able to drop in at the smaller bowl :) I’ll def go more often and get more practice in. The park is not crowded, especially in the morning. The surface is in much better condition compared to Bijou park in South Lake Tahoe. They also did a great job keeping the park clean (removing the pine leaves, etc.), which I really appreciate.

Incredible gym! The sauna and cold plunge are a great addition! There are a few of the essential machines missing for my bodybuilding training but there’s definitely enough to make it work, no doubt it’s the best gym in town
MCP J — Google review
Visiting Tahoe area. My wife and I wanted to find a good local gym. Worth the drive to Truckee. Great variety of equipment. New. Clean. Not crowded. Welcomed daily use.
Wagner F — Google review
I recently got back into strength training and am following a fitness plan so I needed certain machines to follow through. Camp 1 has a plethora of different Machines and Megan at the front desk even helped me make some adaptations for certain exercises. I highly recommend Camp 1! Plus, there’s a sauna and cold plunge in the locker rooms. This is the best gym for strength training that I’ve been to in Tahoe and I’ve tried others locally!
Xima G — Google review
The gym is actually good but I have a problem. The gym guy said if you want to cancel your membership, please send us an email before the 14th, which is your membership expiration date. My membership end date is the 13th of this month. That means I paid on the evening of the 13th and i came on the 14th. The gym guy also told me if you want to cancel before the 14th, please send me an email. So I sent an email on the evening of the 12th during business hours, but they charged us on the 13th. Why did you go to Compliant? My 2 friends who came with me and they want to cancel on the afternoon of the 13th, but they didn't charge them.I think this is unfair to me. I want to meet with the manager.
Wai Y — Google review
I just started my fitness journey have been coming to Camp 1 for 3 months and have found the facility to be a great experience over all. Its members are equally respectful and encouraging. Quality machines, cleanly facility and a positive atmosphere for anyone new and experienced alike
Christian B — Google review
Great gym. Opens early, has a cold plunge and sauna. Small town vibe and smaller crowds
Chris P — Google review
Everything is very nice and new in this gym however in the two months I’ve been a member now the sauna has been broken for over half the time. No one seems to ever know when it will get fixed and have offered no rebate. Not worth paying a premium price for this facility. I’m hoping this will be addressed soon with either the sauna being fixed or a rebate given to members. I do like coming to this beautiful gym but am frustrated with the lack of communication. I would gladly take this review down if this is fixed.
John B — Google review
Weird experience, weird vibes, most of the members are paying a different rate than the public rate as well which doesn’t fit with my “financial community wellbeing opinions” aka y’all should be equally investing in your community facility. Making new members pay more than current members isn’t the most equitable decision for a facility but that’s on them. Cleanliness rating: 3/10 Seems clean, but I used the disinfectant provided and broke out with a rash that I had to go to a doctor to get medicine to treat. They told me I “burned” my skin but also must have used something pretty harsh to get that much of a miliary dermitis breakout too. Class Setup rating: 5/10 A little too much weirdness. I didn’t feel comfortable to work out the ways I have at other facilities that are class focused. I did however enjoy the instructors energy and program. The equipment worked. I came to a morning class and then the next few days was questioned as to “why I wasn’t there”. Maybe I just have too much going on?? It’s like they wanted me to tell them they were good and then when I didn’t come they took offense to that. I really can’t tell if this gym is designed as a multi use facility. They have a nice squat rack but only 1 mirror. So basically if it’s busy I would expect there to be a line. I did not however try out any of the personal training program offerings. I’ve heard really good things about that product and would have enjoyed trying it had the other aspects to the gym worked out. I bet the summer crowd is different too. The gym was very different experience based simply on time of day alone.
