Nature & Parks
Cucumber Falls, located in Ohiopyle State Park, is a picturesque 30-foot waterfall that offers an overlook at the top and a staircase leading to the base. It is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the area and is known for its grace and easy accessibility. Visitors can relax in the basin or feel the mist as they soak their feet in the water. The surrounding trails provide opportunities for leisurely strolls.
Cucumber Falls is an absolute gem, especially in winter! We visited on a day when the weather wasn’t too freezing, and the frozen waterfall was absolutely breathtaking. The scenery is stunning, and it’s totally worth the visit. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!

We went after all the rain and the water levels were amazing. The trails to the falls are well maintained. We had fun climbing behind the falls and playing in the water. We can't wait to go back again.
Michael C — Google review
Great easy-medium real with views of the fall and river. One could also do kayaking and rafting in the river. People enjoyed the serene views and dipping in the river.
Saloni C — Google review
Beautiful waterfall with some pools and plenty of rocks to climb on if you're so inclined. The stairs have some railings with caution tape, and there are some wobbly ones at the top so I wouldn't lean against for pictures or balance. I found the rock steps to be irregular in width and height and there were sections covered in mud and leaves that called for extra caution. We visited in early May and with heavy rains the water was not so high or fast to have prevented wading with two small children due to the many pool pockets created with the rocks. When we later visited Meadow Run, our main draw to the park, a local helpfully suggested Cucumber Falls because the slides were too fast.

The 30-foot bridal veil waterfall on Cucumber Run is easily reached from the Cucumber Falls Parking Lot on Kentuck Road. It can also be reached on foot by using the Cucumber Falls Trail or the Great Gorge Trail. The falls are in the Cucumber picnic area which has two picnic pavilions besides regular picnic tables.
Charles J — Google review
Beautiful waterfalls with easy access from trail or from parking nearby. Can be crowded due to the ease of access however.
Adam P — Google review
Beautiful falls, and a very easy short hike.

Hike to the bottom is fairly short but does include a lot of steps/hills. Water fall is very pretty. has parking lot has always had open spaces during every visit.

Park
Ohiopyle State Park, located in the Laurel Highlands, spans 20,633 acres and offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and rock-hopping. The park is also home to the first miles of the Great Allegheny Passage and features a visitor and education center with exhibits on local flora and fauna.
Great park, one of our favorites. The Meadow Run natural slides are beautiful and fun but be careful not to slip. The river is beautiful and wide with tons of fishing and swimming spots. The Allegheny Passage bike trails are wide and flat making them perfect for kids and families. They have tons of rafting and kayaking although we didn't try this during our trip. There are nice restaurants and shops in the middle of the park. This park is awesome and we'll be back often.
Travis E — Google review
This was an amazing experience for my wife and I. Plenty of visitors and lots of chances for we Louisiana natives to vist locals, and visitors from all over. Weather was really nice, colors have started, the river was awsome. The buckwheat festival was on going. We also ran across a young lady getting married in the middle of the river. She had on white mech wedding train that was as cute as it could be. Icecream, pizza, and sandwiches what more could you ask for. Visited a 84 yr young woman with a history from out of a Movie storyline.

It's one of best state parks I have visited. It has something for everybody to enjoy. I went on a weekday so it was easier to find parking spots. I love the cucumber falls, viewing rock, natural slides and ferncliff area. I unfortunately didn't have time to try water rafting and would definitely try it next time.
Vasu P — Google review
I visited Cucumber Falls and had a little adventure crossing the creek to get as close as possible to the falls. It had just rained, so the ground was pretty muddy and slippery—which definitely made things more exciting! The waterfall itself isn’t huge or particularly unique, but the experience was still really fun. The natural beauty of the area and the small challenge of getting to the best viewpoint made it a memorable stop. A great little adventure if you enjoy the outdoors!
Joan L — Google review
Pretty. Me and my dog did Ferncliff Peninsula trails. Trails nicely maintained. I should have taken a pic of trail info at beginning of trail. I did make a wrong turn and ended up taking a little more hilly, longer walk, and rocky trail. It was not too busy when I started about 10 am but by time I got back to parking lot lots people around. Plus parking lot full. Still fun and definitely will go back. Penny gives it 5 paws!

We take a yearly visit. Beautiful. We normally come to see the foliage. There's so much to do we never have enough time. Dont forget to sit. Relax, and see what God blessed us with while your here.

A really beautiful park that we kind of stumbled on to. It has a great visitors center abd beautiful overlooks for anyone who can't hike. The town is small but cute.
Kristin K — Google review
This was just a quick drive thru on our way to falling water. Visited the natural slides and the walk along the river by the visitors center. Apparently cucumber falls was closed for some reason. The parking lot entrance was cordoned off.

Waterfall
Ohiopyle Falls, located within Ohiopyle State Park, is a captivating 20-foot waterfall on the Youghiogheny River. Adjacent to the Ohiopyle Visitors Center, observation decks offer stunning views of the falls and the lush treeline of Ferncliff Peninsula behind it. Crossing The Great Allegheny Passage bridge provides different vantage points for photography and exploration.
I came here as a kid and today got to take my 2 children to see the falls. Such a beautiful place. Very nice store to visit and enjoy some ice cream. We also visited Cucumber Falls and walked through the water. I want to come back one day and spend more time in this area.
Vanessa W — Google review
Nice State Park where you can walk next to the river and enjoy the beauty of the water rolling down the river. You can also walk across the bridge and walk right next to the water. They have a public restroom also. The visitor center has history about the area with informative displays.

My first time visiting here was in the winter ☃️when everything was beautifully covered in snow it felt like a peaceful winter escape. I loved it so much that I went back on Memorial Day, and the weather was perfect. We found a cozy spot near the waterfall and had a relaxing little picnic. It was such a lovely experience. We’re planning to go white water rafting here soon, and I honestly can’t wait to come back!🛶
Oreo C — Google review
These are very pretty waterfalls on the Tough. I don't believe anyone is allowed to raft or kayak this area though. There are lots of trails up here to walk to enjoy nature. I bet this place is crazy busy in the summer though with whitewater fans.
Jason C — Google review

Place was great would like to go back and visit more of the trails and some of the shops. The town is very touristy but seems clean and joyful. Lots of trails to hike on and the waterfalls are beautiful. You can rent bikes there to ride around or you can go whitewater rafting. Nice little building that is educational that you can go read up in the history of the river. Is a natural water slide there if you dare to brave it. Park was clean not alot of trash. Some of the waterfalls are very easy to get to and would be handicap friendly. Others kinda gotta walk or hike to a little bit. I believe they have some kind of zipline there to but from my understanding its not that big. Be a great place to spend the day or a weekend do have camping sites and hotels. Pretty nice bridges to check out and get a nice view of the river from. Very pet friendly place. Kids love it to. All kinds of stuff to do there go check it out!!!
Dakota M — Google review
Love this place! Spent the day with two families, including 4 kids under 9. They had a ball! Did the waterslides and the pools at the bottom, then hiked Cucumber Falls all the way out to the river. Wore water shoes, but hubby and I both slipped—be careful! Put your phone in a pouch. Have fun!
Angie F — Google review
Easy to view from the provided observation points. If you time it right, you may even see kayakers plunging over the falls on their way down the river!

River
Meadow Run is a hidden gem along the Meadow Run Trail in Ohiopyle. The trail offers diverse experiences, from dipping your toes in the Youghiogheny River to crossing rocky walls of the gorge. One of its highlights is a rare recreational rock feature - a fast-moving, curving waterslide carved out of sandstone leading into a deep pool.
Beautiful location with access to natural water slides, pools of varying depths, and lots of access points to spread out along so you can usually find your own space even on crowded days. The parking lot is too small for the interest in this spot, so you’ll often find guests parked across the road as well. I do suggest shoes with tread as you will be on wet, stone surfaces with algae growth. And, if the run is too crowded, there are numerous other river access points at Ohiopyle.
Rujtu O — Google review
We always do well here, and in the summer, it is a wonderful place to swim and let kids play in the creek.
Matt S — Google review
The coolest thing about Meadow Run is the natural waterslides. The cascading beauty of this unique geologic formation attracts geologists, photographers and recreation fun seekers. Explore Meadow Run’s ancient streambed to find ripples carved in stone and potholes scoured by spinning rocks and powerful currents. An ADA accessible observation deck is easily reached from the parking area.
Charles J — Google review

Here's to the best park ranger in the business! Ian came to my family's rescue when our keys got locked in the car. Not only did he get the car opened but also waited to make sure we found our keys and got on our way safely! This park is a national treasure naturally but also because of people like Ian.

Ferncliff Peninsula Natural Area, located within Ohiopyle State Park, is a National Natural Landmark offering short hikes and stunning views. The area is intersected by the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). Visitors can enjoy the refreshing mist of Cucumber Falls and take in scenic overlooks of the Youghiogheny River gorge along the shady 2-mile Ferncliff Trail loop.
This is a great calm area right by Ohiopyle. Once you walk away from the great views of the waterfalls, you can truly admire the diversity of life that exists on the peninsula. The trails are well maintained and marked and I felt safe on the trails. Do note that there are some cliffs you need to be careful around.
Sam L — Google review
Great trail that runs along the river and a small section of woods. The trees are tall and gives the area an open feel. It is somewhat tough to keep track of where you're at- the map at the start of the trail feels a bit lackluster and has suffered some damage through the years.
Devin S — Google review
Nice, easy hikes. Beautiful river and valley views. Waterfalls and biking trail very close by.
Travis E — Google review
Very beautiful and can hike right next to the river. Highly recommend. Was hiking for about 40 minutes but depending on the path you take it can be more/less. t Trail was well marked and beginners friendly.
J B — Google review
I will hike clockwise. The hike along may take 40-50 minutes. Photos were taken in mid October.

Absolutely in love with this area!!!!! It is so beautiful and peaceful. The trail is amazing because it can be busy but you still feel like you have the earth all to yourself.

If you want to see Pennsylvania’s state flower -the mountain Laurel- take a walk down along the rocks and the water.

It is beautiful, just note that the trail is very poorly marked. You will find yourself off the trail on some random path quite often. The trail just ends at times

Falls City Pub & Restaurant is a laid-back, family-friendly establishment offering classic American cuisine, a selection of craft microbrews, and outdoor patio seating. It's a popular dining destination in Ohiopyle, especially for those looking for late-night eats. While it's known as a favorite hangout for river guides in the evening, it also welcomes families with kids.
INCREDIBLE! Staff was very friendly and efficient! I had the Mac and Cheese Platter with Brisket and it was EXCELLENT! Servers were very personable and fun to talk to! I can tell they love running the restaurant! Would definitely recommend a stop here if you are in or near Ohiopyle!
Maddy T — Google review
Great local place for food and brew in Ohiopyle. Seating is a bit limited inside, but that is fixed by using the outside patio. We ended up sitting with a local couple and chatted the time away. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly and was delish. I got the Fish Taco and my wife got the grilled chicken sandwich. I got a Trail Maker beer which was a nice ale. Not too light with a little bite. This is within the Ohiopyle State Park. It is right next to the train tracks and at the end of Garrent Road. This is also the start of the Laurel Highland Trail.
Daniel G — Google review
Stopped in after a long hike in the rain. They welcomed my dog and me in the outdoor bar and let us sit at the bar so we wouldn’t get wet. They had 8 beers on tap, I tried 6 small pours. All 6 were local and tasty. The food menu had a great variety, it was truly very hard to decide, I might return to try more things on the menu! The brisket, broccolini and fresh cut fries were amazing! The brisket was so tender and the bbq sauce was delicious! And everyone is so friendly; you definitely get the small town vibes.
Ania B — Google review
I love bringing my dog here - the food is always great and it is a welcoming environment. Our served Ritchey was super attentive, friendly, and helpful. My dog loved the chicken, shared it with her cousin. We will be back!
Jen C — Google review
We did not expect to find such excellent vegetarian options in this small town. Often restaurants will have one option for vegetarians. Falls City Pub had many choices. It was clear someone had thought about how to offer excellent choices for everyone. It was hard to choose! Our food was delicious. When we arrived every inside table was taken, but we still received prompt and attentive service. In addition there was a great regional beer selection.
Katie H — Google review
The restaurant is in a super cool location you can actually hear the river flowing nearby, and the train runs right in front of the building, which was awesome to see and hear while eating. It really gives the place a neat atmosphere that you don’t get everywhere. However, the service was a little slow and honestly kind of lackluster, and the food itself was just okay. It’s a BBQ place, but I’m from Texas… so my standards are pretty high. The brisket was pretty dry, more like thick bacon, and didn’t have much flavor it actually had that kind of old, reheated meat taste. Their BBQ sauce was good, though, and definitely helped bring some life back into it. The seasoned fries were actually really solid when they say seasoned, they mean it! Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience at all, just not my favorite BBQ spot, especially compared to what I’m used to back home.
Owen C — Google review
Great casual place, huge portions of appetizers, cheese curds shown below. Redneck, not high class -shots served in throwaway plastic Dixie cups. Good place to kick back and be a redneck.

Was looking for a place to eat after hiking, and found this joint! Food came out extremely quick, we arrived before the dinner rush. Burger was one of the best I've had and the fries were crispy. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat!

Meadow Run Trailhead is a picturesque spot with a beautiful waterfall and lush foliage. It's recommended to bring water, snacks, and bug spray for the walk. The trail can be slippery, so sturdy shoes are advised. Dogs are allowed on leashes. The relatively easy trail leads to Cucumber Falls and offers opportunities to enjoy the water and watch kayaks and rafting tours pass by.
Take a stroll and see the beautiful waterfall and foliage. Look high and low to see what this place has to offer. You will not be disappointed in this walk about. Make sure to have water and a snack, is always a good idea. Bug spray is a must. The trail and rocks can be slippery so shoes with good traction on them are suggested. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash.

One week the falls are frozen, the next the water is flowing. Ohiopyle's Cucumber Falls is a place that you have to see at all times of the year. These photos were recently taken from a few of my weekend visits.

Mornings are best for parking and viewing. Quick trail down to Mill Run and Cucumber Falls. Depending on water flow levels you can get behind the waterfall.

I went in August and the weather was beautiful. The trail was relatively easy with some difficult patches. Not a very long trail but it does lead to cucumber falls. There were also nice little spots to stop and enjoy the water and watch the kayaks and white water rafting tours pass by.

Absolutely gorgeous! With recent rain, everything was soaked so the trek down the rock stairway was a bit slippery. With a little caution the view was totally worth it.

The area features multiple pavilions, an open field, and plenty of picnic tables where you can enjoy your meal. Children can have fun at the play area while others engage in activities like flying kites in the large mowed field.
Beautiful spot for a picnic. Restrooms were available. Plenty of tables both in shade and sun. There is a ball field and a small playground (only a slide I believe).

Not nearly the view we were looking for, thought we went to the wrong spot bc the pictures police that everyone else posted definitely weren't taken here. There is a scenic overlook up the road a bit but it still isn't one of the ones in the photos shown here. The bathrooms don't have sinks and are pretty gross, so be warned. There's a lot of picnic tables and a Pavillion and a small playground, and a dumpster.

The Guide Escorted Rafting trip was awesome. Our guide Rich, is an absolute legend, so cool, so steady, so experienced — I wouldn’t be surprised if he were the River god incarnate, or at least a steward of said River god. Nick, Jared and Mason were rad dudes as well. 10/10 would do again, but next time going for the Class V rapids!😁

Wilderness Voyageurs is excellent. We had 23 family members on this cycling trip. They arranged a custom trip for us so we could choose our own start date and starting location. They were able to arrange lots of single accommodations for us and we all had a blast riding. It is a dedicated bike path most of the way. Everything was perfect. Many thanks to Jason, Heidi, Rachel and Chuck for all of the attention to detail. They even helped us design our team jersey with the mountains we rode to on the back of the jersey. It was the Maroon Bells.

Wow, what a day! I dont know where to start and how to describe, I having trouble finding best descriptive way of how we felt! It was tremendously impressed us. Every pennies that we spent on worth on the moments. Collin was true leader and lifeguard, his analyzing skills, sixth of sense and pinch of humor definitely made our day! We had hit the rocks, we had run through on rapids, waves and hidden caves. We were acted like a team! We saved each other and meantime having fun! Will definitely go there again!

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! Wilderness Voyageurs guides are the best! They are skilled, fun and very knowledgable about the river. Our guide in the boat was John and he did a really great great job telling us about the whitewater rafting tips and funny stories. Safety guide Aiden was very entertaining during the safety lesson and on the bus ride back. We definitely will be back for another unforgettable white water trip!

Wilderness Voyageurs was amazing. Drop off into the water was quick and our guide Rob was great. He chatted us up the entire trip with tons of information about the river and surrounding area. He guided us like we were professionals and we had the best time hitting the rapids. Rob recommended other rivers to try out and test our mettle. Photos taken by the tour came out great too. We just completed our first tour with Wilderness Voyageurs. We did the biking trip starting in Coeur d'Alene ID and riding for four days. This was an amazing trip. We had two great guides (thank you again Karl and Rob) who led us, fed us and did everything possible to make this fun. The structure of the tour made it very easy to interact and make friends of the other riders. We loved the variety in the rides, the optional side trips, the great lunches on the trails and of course the beautiful scenery. Every detail of the tour seemed to be well planned and well executed. We never felt rushed and always looked forward to the next day's ride.

We had an incredible time on our river rafting trip, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Scott. He was super helpful and clear with his instructions, especially important since we had two people in our group who were new to rafting. What really stood out was how calm and relaxed Scott stayed, even when things got a little intense out there. He kept the energy fun and light while still being in control. He knows the river! Thank you for a great time, we will be back!

Would give 0 stars! Went in about 6:30, was going to get ice cream but needed a restroom. Young guy sent us to visitor center. Returned at 6:43, he refused to let us in, was "closed" he said. Told him we just wanted ice cream, he refused. Advertised hours are until 7:00 pm! Went to another place, it was packed, it was hot, they were very friendly and accommodating. Stayed past closing time to get all customers served! Funny how the place closest to the river and park had NO CUSTOMERS but 2 blocks away it was packed. 🤔

The service was not good I have to say - no order to queues and so we had to butt in in the end to ask when we’d get attention - not good! On rare occasion for me this would certainly have been a 5 but service didn’t match the product

Wow talk about price gouging on the ice cream! Will not go there again. Don't bother.

the pistachio custard was something special.... my mother had a minor psychic vision after one bite (managed to capture on camera) .... very unique energy this place has....

I was unsure why all of the employees working were helping the customer in front of us instead of having one employee focus on one customer for maximum efficiency to get the long line down. Other than this, the ice cream was delicious. The root beer float was alright, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Just get a shake of a scoop of ice cream.

A lot left to be desired here. Has so much potential considering the area, festivals, and tourists. Has junky toys and run of the mill crafts. Would be nice to have a cool t shirt or hoodie.
