Market
San Ignacio Market is a vibrant and bustling place filled with an array of tropical fruits waiting to be discovered. Visitors can stroll through the market, sampling exotic fruits they may have never seen before. The market also offers a variety of Belizean street food such as fry jacks and salbutes, providing a true taste of local flavors. On Saturdays, the city comes alive with a thriving weekend market where local vendors showcase their fresh produce and handmade crafts.
Very accessible for both locals and visitors. Right in town and has many different fruits and vegetables. Food section is affordable as well with many different options to choose from. The river view is great and gift shops aren’t too far. You might even be able to see wildlife such as beautiful birds.
Zaiben Z — Google review
A lot of vendors, large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Souvenir stands, and some lovely food stands with great, rustic hearty food.
Ombretta H — Google review
Encourage all travelers to visit here for fresh foods and much more reasonable prices than the local grocery/quick shops. Fresh food, tomatoes, peppers, melons, seasonings, etc.. even two meat stores.
Alan D — Google review
I travel for many reasons and I always seek out a local market. To me it’s the essence of a community. Where people come to buy fresh food, catch up with friends, share a meal and much more. Today I was in my element. It’s my happy place to be immersed into a countries culture, food and meeting the locals. I would highly recommend you come early and have some breakfast. Plenty of stalls to choose from. Takeaway or sit in and chat to the person across the table from you. Apart from fruit and veggies, spices and herbs, there are clothes and homewares plus a few souvenir style stalls. There are toilets onsite which will cost you $1 BZ and you’ll be given a few sheets of toilet paper. A must visit in San Ignacio.
Debi S — Google review
Must go here on the Market day which is Saturdays. Great outdoor market. Fresh produce
Jessica T — Google review
Great place to get local food and fruits. Saturdays is market day in San Ignacio and all the local vendors and people come out to shop and mingle.
Authentically B — Google review
A wonderful local market. We visited and gathered fresh vegetables and meats for our dinner each day while we stayed San Ignacio the people were extraordinarily friendly a great place to visit if you’re in the area.
Paul B — Google review
This is an authentic local market you should NOT miss. We had the best pupusas here from a vendor inside the Market. See video blow to identify this place. This is definitely the must-eat when you come to San Ignacio. We had both red bean and cheese pupusas, and both were so tasty. The way they made pupusas was so classic and traditional. There was pickled cabbage on the table for everyone to share, fresh & tasty. Also, you can find all kinds of local fruits here, tree ripe and delicious. I highly recommend you try any fruit in the market that you have never tried before and you will feel delighted

The Green Iguana Conservation Project at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel is a unique initiative aimed at raising awareness and educating both visitors and locals about the endangered green iguanas. The program offers hands-on interaction with these fascinating creatures, providing insight into their entire life cycle from egg to rearing. Situated atop a hill amidst 14 acres of rainforest, the resort is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including 150 bird species and 70 types of trees and plants.
Got to be up and personal with the iguana. Great for kids and adults who like animals. It seems to be operated by a hotel/resort. And they do guided tours every hour at exactly even o’clock. So plan accordingly. Overall a great experience.
Zhao L — Google review
We had an amazing time with the Iguanas and a very nice and knowledgeable tour guide! We were able to touch and hold some of the iguanas and we’ve seen the younger ones that will be put in the wild one day. This is an amazing place that isn’t a zoo because its main purpose is to help animals and not to please people. I love the job that they are doing with trying to increase the iguanas’ population. I recommend it to everyone. The place is located at the back of the hotel, you need to buy a ticket at the front desk. Tours are available every hour at an even o’clock. Luckily, there were only the two of us so we got a private tour 😍 one of my favorite experiences in Belize!
Marta C — Google review
We stayed at the hotel so it was a very easy choice to check out the Iguana sanctuary on a day when we got some rain. Rodolfo was our guide, he was great! he was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the iguanas. We were able to each hold an adult iguana and also see some of the younger iguanas. Highly recommend this 1hr tour, price was very reasonable and we enjoyed it so much!
Carri H — Google review
What an experience! To start with the place is in a gorgeous hotel and the staff are so lovely. The tours run on the hour. We met the guy and he was super knowledgeable and made us feel at ease with the iguana. We learned so much about them! They’re precious animals and we must look after them. If you have kids or are just visiting San Ignacio, this place is a must!!
Leonardo R — Google review
It was slow season for tourism so I essentially had a private tour Rodolfo who was very knowledgeable about the iguanas. He even pointed out a wild black iguana that was in a tree at the hotel where the project was located. I highly recommend booking this tour as the funds help protect these lovely creatures. I learned so much about iguanas in Belize and really enjoyed getting to feed and pet them.
Amy T — Google review
You can tell that the staff here really enjoys what they do. The conservation work is important, and you learn so much about the iguanas. I highly recommend a visit! The tour starts every hour so plan accordingly.
Miriam — Google review
Excellent experience and very informative discussion about Iguanas. We gained a greater appreciation for them and an understanding for their preservation.
Chris H — Google review
A must see at San Ignacio! You get to learn about the iguanas, hold them, and donate to their conservation! A tour starts every hour from 8:00 to 16:00. Absolutely amazing place! 🦎❤️

Ancient Ruins
Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve is a significant site dating back to 1200 BCE, showcasing ceremonial Mayan temples and stunning vistas. The ruins feature corbeled arches, a distinctive characteristic of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican constructions and Maya architecture. Located near San Ignacio Town, it offers access to ancient structures, intricate stone carvings, and panoramic views of the rainforest.
Very well maintained area. Much better and bigger than expected. They let you climb these pyramids, which is a first experience for me. Do watch out though, some of them are steep, and it’s easier to get up and harder to get down. The entry fee price of 10USD is very fair for such a large and well maintained area.
Zhao L — Google review
Amazing experience. Take a cab up here and save your legs for climbing. The steps here are pretty steep. If you read in the visitor center you learn they were not made for every day climbing, that only the privilege do it. Can be slippery after a rain storm. Worthy of the $10 USD. Perhaps better if done with a guide?
Daniel N — Google review
Pretty cool site to explore! We were able to get lots of great pictures on the Mayan ruins with no one else around! Definitely recommend to those coming to San Ignacio! Only costs 20 belize currency!
Max H — Google review
This was the most breathtaking thing I've done in Belize. I had a great fortune of getting to experience the site alone, I felt like royalty. It's such a massive site, and would make a perfect day out of anyone.
Callum W — Google review
A relatively small Mayan temple site, it was occupied for most all of Mayan civilization. Very close to town, so easy to visit if you are short on time. Interesting museum and small gift shop.
Glen J — Google review
Very cool archaeological site with lots to see and tons of fascinating history. If you're considering going I recommend not buying tickets in advance. I bought mine online and there was some confusion. It'd likely be easier to have just bought them at the entrance. Definitely recommend all tourists to visit Cahal Pech!
Nathaniel C — Google review
All of the history was great! You definitely don’t need a guide if you take the time to go through the museum, which is beyond informative. It was really cool to see and learn all of the history on our first day in San Ignacio.

A fair amount to see and explore, would be a great location for hide and seek. Bit pricey in my opinion and was also told it closed at 5pm, not 6 as was advertised online.

AJAW Chocolate LTD. is a unique educational facility located in San Ignacio, Belize, offering tours for visitors aged 8 and above from Monday to Saturday. While reservations are not required for individuals or small groups, they are recommended for large groups and the farm tour. During the tour, guests can experience the entire chocolate-making process, from bean to cup, while learning about the traditional history and practices of local chocolate production.
We called in here based on reading reviews of what to do in San Ignacio and it didn’t disappoint. We didn’t sign up to do the course due to the fact we had already done one in Antigua and we were roasting as it was a hot day but Elida was so welcoming and helpful. We were able to buy loads of different variations of cacao from her shop and we had the cacao nibs ice cream which was delicious! She even was so kind to order us a taxi back to our hotel after. Thank you so much! We loved our time there!
Becca M — Google review
We had an absolutely phenomenal time at the chocolate making workshop. We learned so much and the hosts of the workshop did an incredible job teaching us the history of cacao and showing us how to make Mayan cacao beverages. Absolutely great!
Stacey — Google review
I will never view chocolate the same way again. This historical chocolate making class was everything I wanted and more. We didn’t make sugar filled bars. Instead we learned about how sacred the chocolate drink and cocoa bean is. The teacher was very knowledge and we had a great time asking questions and learning. I highly recommend.
Ayesha P — Google review
I had a fantastic time here on the chocolate making and tasting tour. The team were friendly, knowledgable and this was a great hour of the afternoon well spent. It was packed full of history and I learned how to make traditional Mayan chocolate, grinding roasted cacao beans by hand on a stone slab. I tried the Mayan chocolate drink with chilli and honey - it was absolutely delicious. Cannot recommend it enough!
Charlotte P — Google review
I had done chocolate tours in the region before but this is my favorite so far. The chocolate production happens from soil to bar at Ajaw. During the class, we tasted cacao from every stage and learned a lot about the history of chocolate for the Maya. They also sell all the different cacao products they introduce during the tour. Definitely worth the visit.
Ecem S — Google review
Very knowledgeable and fun to hear the Mayan stories and meaning. Had beautiful instruction on the pure ways the Mayans made chocolate and drank or as a ritual and be ordained at age 9. All in all a fun, interesting and enjoyable experience.
Jason C — Google review
We went on the farm tour which added an extra layer of context to the demonstration. If you're a chocolate lover this will give you a new respect for the cultural importance of cacao. Thank you Adrian and the team for such a great experience.
Madison L — Google review
If I ever come back to San Ignacio with friends or family, I am taking them here! They have a chocolate-making class! I have never experienced such a thing! Literally step by step! And I know people who would be grateful for such a unique experience. You also get a history lesson (I am a history nerd, so I love visiting places like this) and can also buy chocolate. However, this is not like Hershey's or other mass-produced sugar bombs, this is a very rich chocolate with a balanced flavour (unique is the best word to describe it). If the only chocolate that you have ever tried was the well-known brands at stores around the world, then you have not tried true chocolate. Come here and see!

Ko-Ox Han Nah, which means "let's go eat" in Mayan, is a popular dining spot in San Ignacio Town. Despite its unassuming exterior, the restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring a mix of Indian and Belizean cuisine. The simple yet cozy ambiance adds to the charm of this establishment. Guests can enjoy dishes such as Indian curry and Belizean rice and beans all under one roof.
I stayed a few days in San Ignacio and this was by far my favorite restaurant in the area. We liked it so much, we came back for a second dinner and breakfast too. I tried the NY Strip steak first. It was cooked nicely and was delicious. I tried the pork shank next. It was absolutely amazing, fall of the bone with a wonderful taste. The lamb curry was probably my favorite and I’m not a fan of curry. Breakfast was awesome, the eggs were done to perfection, bacon was spectacular and the omelette was amazing. The servers were outstanding and very attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Mark J — Google review
This was a decent place to eat. We ended up here honestly because we were exploring the city on a Sunday. and and a lot was open. We ended up getting their lamb dishes that came recommended. One was curry and one was a Korean style beef dish. The food didn’t blow us away. It was kind of the first taste. We got of local Belize cuisine. Not the best food but we had full bellies.
Kenzie W — Google review
After getting multiple recommendations, we decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, and really good authentic cuisine. I recommend the vegetable soup and the fish. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try the cow foot soup. We had dinner there two days in a row, and it's a 2 minute walk from Martha's guest house.
SHAZAM L — Google review
Don’t understand the hype. Didn’t find the food too nice. We ordered a chicken curry and the chicken had a funny taste we didn’t eat it. We gave it a second chance and had the pork tacos. They were nice but super mega oily and so was the plantain portion. The service is good just wish they didn’t take our plates right after we finished eating it’s of bad taste. The food also takes a while, but I think it’s a thing in Belize. Don’t go if you’re on a rush
Leonardo R — Google review
Food was great, quesadilla was huge and delicious. I had also the whole fish and my husband the chicken curry. Everything was delicious. My husband had strawberry ice cream for dessert and I had the flan. Everything was perfect. The picture shows half of the quesadilla.
Katia S — Google review
Stop in for lunch after Xunantunich and we were not disappointed. The flies were tough but we were tougher My wife had a delicious pineapple rum drink. For lunch I had an enormous quesadilla that was packed with shrimp and the capers gave it a different but enjoyable twist. My wife had beef and dirty rice. Local favorite but done very well here. Pineapple yogurt shake was amazing. I had gotten it to go but it was so good I finished it right there. Plenty of fun trinket items and art to look at and buy as well if looking for souvenirs. Highly recommend. Dinner you may want to make a reservation.
John N — Google review
Ate here twice in 2 days. Great value, taste, and customer service. I made customized requests on both occasions and they were all accommodated without any issues. Among the very best in San Ignacio!
Jason Y — Google review
The best meal of our Central America trip so far! The menu is expansive and varied so there's really something for everyone. Several vegetarian options, I went for the spicy eggplant dish which was absolutely delicious and the perfect level of spice. It came with a side of steamed veggies which tasted so good and the rice was perfect for soaking up all the delicious sauce. Such lovely service too and reasonably priced for the size and quality. Would visit again if we were staying longer!

Awesome delicious dinner: fresh ingredients, beautiful presentations. However, coconut water was flat. Soursop was refreshingly good. Great service by Abner, Alex, Rose and another lady.
Culturetravel — Google review
Great place! Food was made fresh. A bit pricey for the area, but worth it if you can splurge a little. A frog or toad jumped out of the planters onto the floor a couple times, that was cool :) You'll want to get a reservation during peak tourist season.

What a cultured oasis in San Ignacio. Don't get me wrong, street tacos are amazing but if you want to have a nice dinner with your special person on vacation in San Ignacio, this is a great choice. Take a cab because driving after these drinks is a poor idea. And definitely leave room for their cheesecake even if you normally don't...do it

We had an excellent experience with Explore Inland Tours during our caving and zip lining tour. The guide, Handsome, was incredibly friendly and entertaining, making us feel right at home. His extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna provided a great learning experience for us. We also enjoyed our cave tubing adventure with Sergio, who was amazing and very personable. Everything was well-planned and we would highly recommend this service.
10 out of 10 for our experience of today. We went cave tubing in the archeological reserve of Nohoch Che'en with Explore Inland Tours. After some both online and in person tour shopping we came across Explore Inland's office and we were greeted by Sergio who advised us in a caring and friendly way answering all our questions, gave us time to decide and eventually get back in touch, which is what we did! In the morning at the advised time we reached the office and we're greeted by Kayla (sorry if I spelt it wrong!) who was also very lovely and checked us into the tour. Last but not least we were introduced to our guide, Handsome, it was such a pleasure to spend the day with Handsome, his passion for his land and knowledge of its territories and cultures is just amazing and fascinating. As we enjoyed the walk in the nature and relaxed floating in our tubes we have learnt so much! The whole experience was so lovely, definitely not too physically demanding, but actually relaxing! Highly recommended for the right balance of exploring nature, a bit of history and culture and floating in refreshing waters! Grazie mille!

We did the ATM cave excursion and it could not have been more perfect. Our guide Ian was incredibly knowledge and has been giving the tour for over 25 years. We were the second group in the cave so we beat the big rush and appreciated the company trying to get us a head start before other groups. The travel agent Kayla was extremely warm and helpful as we planned our trip. She answered so many just general Belize questions, even unrelated to the ATM cave. Overall, my husband and I are backpacking all of Central America and so far the ATM cave with Explore Inland Tours was our favorite things we’ve done yet!! 10/10 recommend!
Rebecca H — Google review
We used explore inland tours for a cave tubing/ziplining tour over Easter in Nohoch Che'en. Our family of 5 (kids age 13, 11, & 9) loved every minute! Our guide, Israel, was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and exceeded our expectations. He taught our kids so much about Belizian culture and life experience. In the cave, he took us through all kinds of nooks and crannies, including an amazing rock jumping area. We definitely had a better and more throughout experience than the other tourist I saw on cave floats. Israel was able to tailor our experience so that it was an amazing experience for our active and adventurous three children. It was easy and professional booking experience as well.

My husband and I had a fabulous guided trip to Caracol Mayan Temple with Handsome. It was beyond awesome. Handsome is a great driver, an experienced professional tour guide and makes a great lunch. The ruins, the wildlife - especially the howler monkeys- were incredible. We recommend highly

Handsome was great. Did an amazing tour to Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and Nohoch Che'en Caves . He was so knowledgeable of the culture and plants. All throughout the tours he shared with us history and awesome insight. He was funny, thoughtful and courteous. He also showed us how to see a tarantula which my husband tried on his own the next day and it worked

Sergio was amazing in organizing our excursions during our stay. Special shout out to guides Handsome, Ian, and Nate for sharing their wealth of knowledge about Belizean culture, flora and fauna, and just generally making our trip so memorable. The lunches we were provided with our excursions were delicious and we especially want to give a shout out to Nate (our guide at Lamanai) for giving us THE BEST rice and beans we had on our entire trip (Ian was a close second!). I recommend to anyone who visits Belize (and is mobile) to visit ATM Caves. Ian was an excellent guide and made sure the group communicated and stayed together. Overall, I would highly recommend Explore Inland!

AMAZING! We did the ATM tour with Ian and it was beyond fantastic. Ian was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and fun! We also had the added bonus of a private tour! This was easily one of the coolest things we have ever done, not just because the cave is stunning, but because Ian was a blast! I highly recommend this company. Booking was easy and Sergio was very responsive. We hope to do other tours with them in the future!

Hi I'm not a customer. However just want to ask for Chaa Creek Management to please deal with the drivers. Last night a driver of the 9:30 pm van that was heading from San Ignacio to Chaa Creek lodge had no respect for other lives and drivers on the road!!!! Almost cause me to run off the road and several stones from the loose gravel on the road hit my windshield and car as he overtook stupidly and sped off!!!! I tried catching up to him to see who he was but he was over 70 miles!

loved the food for dinner and breakfast! But beware!!!! The mango habanero is VERY hot 🥵 the potatos and veggies are amazing.

If you stay at the Ignacio resort hotel you’re pretty much going to have to eat here. The scenery is spectacular see pic. The staff is very helpful and friendly. But the food is $$$ and average at best. See pics. I ordered biscuits and gravy with eggs sunny side up and it was hard to find the gravy. My wife ordered the omelette and it was pretty good - but the toast was not toasted, just thick slices of wheat bread. If you decide not to eat here you’ll need to walk or ride down the steep hill into town, OK for other meals but not breakfast.

The restaurant at the San Ignacio Resort is fantastic. The atmosphere is great. In the morning we could see many birds and monkeys from the beautiful view. The outside dining is very comfortable with ceiling fans running to keep you cool. The vegetarian options are yummy. For dinner we had the stir fry with black bean sauce and tofu. The tofu is the fried puffed kind which is great. For breakfast we had huevos rancheros, really delicious. The coffee was really good too. We stayed at the resort for 3 nights and had an early morning excursion to the ATM caves and asked our server what we could order to eat and leave within 30 minutes, he let us know we could get the granola parfait which was good, lots of small diced tropical fruit and toasted coconut. I'm glad we had that to fuel our journey. The service was always top notch, very attentive.

Good food. Somewhat pricey for the area, but it's a hotel restaurant and a few restaurants in town offer similar food for the same price anyway.

We had Valentine’s Day dinner. Atmosphere and decoration were great. Food is decent, nothing surprising

review is only for their breakfast: worst meal we had in san ignacio. hopefully their dinner is better. asked for the steak medium rare. it came out completely overcooked and bland. poached eggs were nice. the toast was not fresh. sadly, the jam (fresh & with cinnamon) was the best part.

Had breakfast after staying the evening which included avocado toast and the traditional Belizean breakfast. Presentation and flavor were very good.

Authentic Flavors is a must-visit eatery in San Ignacio, Belize. This restaurant fully embraces the Garifuna culture, offering traditional dishes like hudut, darasa, and sahou in a setting draped in Garifuna aesthetic. The menu allows you to experience various cultural foods of Belize and caters to different diets. It's highly recommended for those seeking an amazing local and cultural food experience.
We enjoyed appetizers…salutes and panades on our first visit! So fresh and delicious. We can back on our last night and had the fish taco meal. Wonderful Creole flavors! Visit this family and you will be well taken care of!

An absolute gem if you are nearby. The food was delicious and of the highest quality. The reviews and photos speak for themselves. Do not let the location of this restaurant fool you like it did to one of our guests. I told her to trust me and the reviews I read. Suffice to say, they were very satisfied that we stayed.

Very unassuming from the outside but we were able to walk from our cabin so we wanted to give it a shot. We were the only diners when we arrived so they kicked on the music and went to work on our fruit drinks. Ginger Lime and Mango Piña. They were so good and can't get any fresher. Our waiter was a sharp young man who definitely knew how to talk to tourists and make them feel comfortable. The food was so good and natural. We felt like we were fine dining in our backyard. So many lights, and plants, and cultural items. Very creative and fun. Hand woven menu covers - that should set the proper expectation right there Don't be in a hurry...please enjoy your time and the food And Zoe the puppy will say hi!

Loved this place! The food was very good! The prices for most dishes were only a bit higher than an average cheap roadside kitchen but the quality and presentation were that of a high quality (and MUCH more expensive) restaurant. Very affordable and more than worth the price. I loved how they had food offerings from all of Belize's different cultures on one menu. I loved even more how they took that same inspiration and created some of their own unique recipes (both food and drinks) and it all turned out delicious! Our table got some Mexican/Belizean staples (tacos, salbutes, etc), the coconut battered fried chicken, the pibil burger, and fried chicken with beans and rice, plus several homemade juices. It was all SO good! The beans and rice were the best I've had so far in Belize - the fresh coconut flavor really pushed them over the top. And the spices sorrel (hibiscus) juice was so nice and refreshing. The server was excellent, so friendly, worked hard to please. Very willing to share about their family's efforts to make great food and drinks and striking up a casual conversation with him was easy and enjoyable. The chef came out later to check on us, also very friendly. Not a crowded place, but some regulars came and you could tell they were enjoying themselves. The ambience is fun, definitely felt like (and literally was) being invited to the outdoor patio next to the kitchen of your friend who loves to cook. Don't let the fact that it just looks like a regular house throw you off. Inside was an eclectic mix of fun and sometimes unique decorations. Well worth the visit and my favorite restaurant experience in Belize so far! If I were staying longer in San Ignacio area I'd eat here many more times. If I'm ever back in the area, this will be the first place I eat again!

Amazing meal!!!! We were welcomed with open arms by Ivy and her children. She cooked a delicious meal for us. The atmosphere is truly authentic and really idyllic. We ordered the Pineapple Jerk Shrimp and the Stewed Chicken with Coconut rice and beans. Not pictured were the delicious appetizers of Panades and Tostadas. 10/10.

A Hidden Gem in San Ignacio You Have to Experience! Authentic Flavors, has some of the most heartwarming, delicious, and culturally rich dining experiences in Belize! From the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped by the soul of Garifuna culture—every detail, from the vibrant decor to the music, to the lovingly curated dishes, radiated pride and authenticity. The atmosphere is more than just welcoming—it feels like walking into someone’s home where you’re treated like family. And speaking of family, one of the highlights of our visit was meeting the owner’s beautiful children and witnessing the care and thought poured into every corner of the space. It’s clear this isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a labor of love. The food is wow. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can taste it in every bite. The conch fritters? Perfectly crisp with that ocean-kissed flavor. The wings were juicy and flavorful. The spicy jerk pineapple shrimp—a mouthwatering blend of heat, sweet, and bold Caribbean spices! Authentic Flavors is a rare find—a true hidden gem that captures the heart of Belizean hospitality and Garifuna culture. Do yourself a favor: make time to eat here, savor the food, feel the vibe, and connect with the people. You won’t regret it! 10/10—can’t wait to come back!

You walk into an intricately decorated covered patio. The atmosphere is colourful, with garifruna, Creole, mestizo, and Mayan artwork. The menu has dishes from all of these cultures, plus burgers and vegetarian options. Amazing coconut soup, friend chicken, wowowow! The owner and her family are so nice. We had to come back to this locally owned gem.

Extremely welcoming family and delicious food. They had delicious vegetarian options (I loved their tacos!!) The son and the mom were just amazing. I highly recommend if you want to taste local food.

San Ignacio Resort Hotel offers stylish accommodations in a sophisticated jungle setting, featuring chic rooms and suites. The hotel boasts the Running W Restaurant, which has introduced a fresh summer menu with a variety of dishes to cater to different tastes. Additionally, the hotel is home to an iguana conservation project on its lush grounds, where visitors can take guided tours to learn about and interact with these fascinating reptiles.
Had a delightful lunch there. Staff members were welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious and the portions were appropriate. The steak was tender and juicy and worthwhile savoring. They also had options for fresh natural juices. I had watermelon. So refreshing as it was a hot day.

We had such a wonderful stay at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly nice and warm, always smiling, helpful, and making sure we felt comfortable. Their hospitality truly stood out. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with everything we needed to relax after long days of exploring. The property itself is beautiful, well kept, and has a peaceful atmosphere. The location is perfect, close to the heart of San Ignacio but still tucked away enough. It’s easy to explore the town and nearby attractions. Overall, it’s a place that combines comfort, convenience, and genuine Belizean hospitality.

We didn’t stay here but we got a day pass for $20 (Belize) and it was great value for money. The pool was huge, service was amazing and came to the pool to order drinks. Free towels. Stunning location. What’s not to love? And there is an iguana sanctuary on site which rescues iguanas which was fun too.

We had the pleasure of staying at the San Ignacio Resort on Friday and Saturday evenings as the resort graciously hosted the Belize Wildlife Clinic Annual Gala. We booked a standard room so my expectations were not 5 star however our room was fantastic with every amenity you could imagine! The staff are very attentive to every detail and are always ready to help you with anything you need (taxi's, reservations, directions, etc.). And, each time every staff member greeted us with a smile! They even went to our room to be sure I hadn't lost my cell phone when we went to the market! Way over and above! Next time we will book the 2 bedroom 2 bath suite with the private butler just to be spoiled a little more. Definitely do the Iguana tour at the resort...very educational and fun! Do eat at least a few meals at the restaurant because the food is delicious...get the avocado toast for breakfast...your tastebuds will thank you! We will certainly be back!

We had a wonderful stay at San Ignacio Resort and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a five-star experience in San Ignacio. Both the tours we did with Renan and Cruz were exceptional experiences. Everyone at the resort were attentive to all our needs and made us feel right at home. The food is also amazing and was hard to not want to dine there every night. Would recommend checking our San Ignacio town as well for the whole culture experience of Belize. It’s within walking distance or they are very accommodating with shuttles if needed. Definitely consider booking the plunge pool room, had a private backyard with a mini-pool.

Lovely stay! The food at the restaurant was so good that we didn’t eat anywhere else during our stay. Rooms are comfortable and the pool is quite nice. It is a central location to many hiking spots as well.
Rachel D — Google review
We were there for the iguana project and pool. For $20 USD you can stay there and enjoy the facilities. 100% recommend if you need to cool down. Getting there by foot is tough though. Get yourself a taxi as the hotel is on top of a huge hill.

Stopped by for a night tour before we left and it was by far our favorite experience in the area. Santos was an amazing guide and his knowledge and energy was incredible. I highly recommend the night tour for anyone staying at the resort or in the area.

Belize Botanic Gardens, a unique sculpture park in Western Belize, is a hidden artistic gem managed by the Ruiz family. Visitors highly recommend taking the guided tour to explore the diverse areas and learn about the plants. The friendly staff provides informative insights and even offers tea tasting tours featuring medicinal plants. Despite some navigation challenges, visitors enjoy wandering through the stunning grounds and encountering wildlife like toucans. The gardens also support the local community, making it a worthwhile visit for anyone in San Ignacio.
These gardens are beautiful and peaceful. We took the shuttle from the San Ignacio market. It leaves at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm. We took a guided tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. The garden is engaged in some cool orchid conservation and has even discovered a type of orchid. We learned so much. It is well worth a visit!
Hawley C — Google review
Such a cool hidden gem! We got the shuttle (15bz per person) from San Ignacio market in the morning and were picked up by Rudy. He is super friendly and informative and we learned a lot about the gardens, local area and Belize in general. Highly recommend getting the shuttles, as it was a smooth and hassle-free experience. We then opted for the self-guided tour (20bz per person) and they gave us a map and booklet containing information about so many trees and plants. You should pay for the shuttles along with the entrance fee after arriving at the garden office. We could find all of the trails pretty easily and there’s even a river right next to it where we could take a quick dip! All in all, totally worth it. All the staff, including the lady at the market shop, were so sweet and they are doing great conservation work for the local community.

Fantastic afternoon here, we did the self guided tour and found the booklet you are given to be really informative. It was lovely to spend a few hours in with the impressive trees, plants & wildlife. The staff even pointed out the monkeys in the distance just as we were about to leave!

I can't believe this isn't a more visited place in San Ignacio. Firstly, there are morning and afternoon return shuttles from San Ignacio (25 minute trip) for 15BZD round trip. Entry is 15BZD self guided (with a map and a ring bound guide) or 30BDZ with a guide. We chose self guided, however just chatting with the guys who work there before and after made me wish we'd done the guided tour. The place itself is beautiful, peaceful and full of interesting plants and animals (naturally). When we went in the afternoon I think we were the only people there. If I was to do it over I'd start in the morning and do a full day!
Arram H — Google review
Did the self guided tour. Was cute, spent ~1 hr but don’t feel like we saw much that we haven’t already seen over the last week in the country at various resorts, cafes, etc. NOTE ABOUT THE ROAD we had a rental car without much clearance and while most of the road is fine, the last mile is steep and has some significant bumps. Could easily see someone damaging their car here. Would absolutely not do this in a car in rainy season or after rains/while rain is in the forecast. Taking the road into consideration, while it’s pretty, I wouldn’t recommend for a tourist unless you’re realllly into plants
Kelli W — Google review
We got the 1pm shuttle (book at the office in the market, or number in photo) and had a really lovely afternoon walking round the trails. They are well maintained, easy to follow with the map and the signs. We had enough time to walk round all of it with lots of stops for birds before the 4pm shuttle back. The self-guided booklet was interesting, you can tell a lot of work has gone into making it. We saw a lot more birds than we expected in the heat, including Toucans and Acaris. But mainly what made it so special was meeting Rudy who has worked there for 19 years - his passion was infectious! He chatted to us a lot about the gardens and the work they do during the journeys and we were so glad to meet him 🙂
Natalie F — Google review
This garden is close to our lodging, so we walked down the dirt road. You can do a guided tour or self guided. We opted for self guided. They give you a map and a booklet of all the plants and trees you could find. It was hot and humid, so we didn't see as much as we would have liked but overall it's beautiful and a nice hike throughout. We saw different birds, toucans and a few squirrels which were very loud 🤔.

Such an incredible afternoon at the BBG! We did the tea tasting tour where we were taken around to see some of the medicinal tea plants and then we had a sampling of two teas along with a few cakes! It was amazing and so educational. The grounds are stunning and we were able to see a toucan and hear many other birds! It’s such a beautiful garden and knowing that they are supporting the community makes it even more worthwhile of a visit!
