Nature & Wildlife Areas
Haller Park, formerly known as Bamburi Nature Trail, is a seaside natural reserve that offers trails and diverse wildlife. The park is home to various animals such as tortoises, giraffes, hippos, zebras, waterbucks, and over 160 bird species including cranes and pelicans. It was originally an inspiration project in 1971 and has since been transformed into a wildlife park by Dr. Haller.
Great park. You can feed the giraffe, the monkeys, watch the Hippo and alligator feeding and let a 100 year old tortoise. Go at 2-3 pm so you can feed the giraffe and watch the other feeding.
Alex — Google review
It's really an insightful visit. Especially with the guides who take the tour groups and give detailed narration about the facility and how the animals got placed there. Fun fact I didn't know crocodiles can stay without eating for 3 months. Best part of the tour is the viewing the feeding of the crocodile, hippos and giraffes. This usually takes place from 3pm-4.30pm.
Laban W — Google review
Great place to experience the wild in a protected spaces, reptiles, Giraffes, Hippos, Fish, butterfly, snakes . The eco system is so natural, yet well protected. It's great for all age groups. I recommend it as a must visit place for those visiting Mombasa. It's worth it
Maguku E — Google review
Mid Aug 25. 2200 ksh and passed by only kid ticket? Entrance was being torn down and ticketing was by guy under the tree with table. No map or brochure about it at all. Expecting better for the price, as it was almost 10 times what locals pays. And the most interesting was the blueballs monkeys and not even the animals were supposed to be.
Nazib ( — Google review
Its a nature walk experience. Kinda like a zoo but the some animals are free to move around. It has a strict schedule if you want to enjoy the whole experience. Thats following the feeding times. You feed the giraffes. But the hippos and crocodiles are fed so you get to see them out of the water. The park also closses early so you need to plan your time well.
Ibrahim K — Google review
Home of nature. Get there At 11AM for giraffe feeding and also at 4PM for Crocodile, Snakes and Hippos feeding. You will be awed by the beauty.
Moses I — Google review
Nice place to see giraffe and feed the. Also good to see deer , giant tortoise, crocodiles, reptiles, butterfly park etc
Arun S — Google review
It is an interesting place to visit. I enjoyed watching the giraffe feed, tortoise walking on the grass and the huge crocodiles skimming on their cages pools. However, I did not get to see the hippos and the buffalos. I am happy about the rehabilitation of Bamburi quarries into a tourist attraction center. Haller park made my Mombasa worth every coin.

Park
Mombasa Marine Park & Reserve is a stunning destination for ocean enthusiasts. The park covers 84 square kilometers and offers clear blue waters teeming with diverse marine life, making it perfect for snorkeling and diving. While the beach may be less crowded, visitors can enjoy camel rides, boat trips to the coral reef, and opportunities to swim and feed the fish. Safety is ensured with guaranteed safety measures in place.
We had a great experience. The guides were patient
Stephen O — Google review
My expectations let me done You'll feed fish and swim in the ocean. In the park you'll also see a variety of sea creatures. The best time to travel is 10 AM to 1 PM with low tides.
Ndegeya K — Google review
very convenient place for family members in Mombasa. it was crowded when I passed it by. intimate and peaceful atmosphere.
Fadhl A — Google review
Beautiful ocean with so much fish. My kids swam and the divers helped them manoeuvre. Pros, the divers were polite and have all life jackets sizes, cons, the boat looked a little bit dilapidated. I'd have preferred a newer looking boat, but apparently there's a lineup to be followed. Regardess it was a lovely experience.
K M — Google review
Activities offered snorkeling, swimming in the ocean and seeing fish under the glassboat. Good experience for both adults and kids
Martha W — Google review
This is an experience one needs to try out when they visit Mombasa. You pay for the permit which is really affordable and then pay for the boat ride which is about 1000 kshs per person (after negotiating). The gents in charge are so kind and I suggest you carry some kshs for a tip. It's really safe and you are given a life jacket. You can even swim if you would like to.
Wolo W — Google review
Beautiful breach which is less crowded unlike pirates, unfortunately there are no food vendors but you will find camel rides, boat rides to the coral reef, see star fish and get a chance to swim and feed the fish along the coral reef. Safety is guaranteed. The only setback is there is vehicle accessible entrance to the beach. You have to leave your car on the road about 1Km away. I got lucky and used the Serena gate and the staff were generous enough to permit me to use their parking and access the marine park from their hotel. I bought drinks from their hotel as a way of saying thank you.
Muriithi M — Google review
I definitely enjoy my visits here, the coral is beautiful and the 🐟 🐠 amazing. Feeding them is the best part. You should definitely make a visit and ask for Captain Mohammed or Captain Yahya very professional. Also you can hire a huba cat with Captain Shawn 👌 and experience the best ride. Marine Park services are very professional and accommodative

Fort Jesus Museum is a 16th-century Portuguese coastal fort located in Mombasa, Kenya. It was constructed between 1593 and 1596 to secure the safety of Portuguese living on the East Coast of Africa.
A must-visit gem in Mombasa—stunning architecture, engaging exhibits, and captivating storytelling across centuries. Ideal for history buffs, culture seekers, families, or anyone looking to dive deep into coastal Kenya’s heritage. Just plan ahead, pace your visit, and enjoy a stroll through living history.
Shahriar S — Google review
It's such a nice place to visit in Mombasa. You'll learn a lot of historical facts especially about Oman and Arabs in general. It also has a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean.
Mutonyi W — Google review
Some vivid history lessons on kenya's coast & how it's influenced us as a society. Be sure to get a guide from the museum, they quite informative.
Kelvin K — Google review
A must-visit historical landmark in Mombasa! Fort Jesus is one of those places that truly makes history come alive. Walking through its ancient corridors, stone walls, and passages gives you a real sense of what coastal life and trade looked like centuries ago. The cannons, architecture, and carvings have been remarkably preserved, and the ocean views from the upper sections are simply stunning — especially at sunset. I highly recommend taking a guided tour; the guides are very knowledgeable and share detailed stories about the Portuguese, Omani, and British periods, as well as the role Fort Jesus played in protecting Mombasa’s harbor. The Passage of the Arches and the wall engravings were among my favorite spots. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason — full of culture, heritage, and insight into Kenya’s coastal history. Definitely worth a visit for both locals and tourists.

The expérience at Fort Jesus Museum is worth witnessing.... I'm going share a summary of what it is about Fort jesus is a Portuguese fort in Mombasa, Kenya, Built between 1593-1596, UNESCO World Heritage site since 2011. It Showcases Kenyan coastal history, culture, and Portuguese influence.Features exhibits on Swahili culture, maritime trade, and the fort's history. This is a must visit for history buffs and those interested in East African heritage! A lover of history, you would love it

This place has so much of our history. It's a good activity to do while in Mombasa. But from the vendors and enjoy yourself if you live history
Ann N — Google review
Its not such a big thing everybody makes it out to be...the old way of agriculture and history were interesting. If you go, let a tour guide take you but just keep in mind that he needs to get paid afterwards...set payment rate before he takes you. He arranges Entrance fee and also takes you to elephant tusks and old town.(reason I add those photos as well)
Anneliese S — Google review
Your experience will depend on your guide. You’ll have a West African vibe, but a different story. The fight that went on here with Oman, British and Portuguese is just thrilling. Try to read a bit about the history before you come.

Mamba Village is a lively amusement park in Mombasa that offers a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features bumper cars, a merry-go-round, and other rides, as well as a large crocodile farm where guests can ride horses or camels and explore the botanical garden and aquarium. The on-site restaurant serves an adventurous menu featuring game meat such as crocodile, zebra, and ostrich.
Such a Unique Experience 🤍🤍 Visiting Mamba Village was a very nice and memorable experience. The crocodile area felt like stepping into a completely different and beautiful world. It was both exciting and peaceful at the same time. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, which made the visit even more enjoyable. I truly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something unique to do
Hadeel H — Google review
The experience was good. It is a one time experience kind of thing. You wouldn't want to visit again. Most of the crocodiles are in hibernation mode so they barely move. I would recommend you to ask ahead of time and visit during feeding time. They do have snakes too and you do get to hold a 2yr old small crocodile. The pathway is accessible to elder people too and there is a seating space once you reach the enclosure compound.
Amir A — Google review
Great rides for the kids, decent prices and duration of the rides were amazing. Sarah kitheka is a great host
Abdalla A — Google review
Loved. Loved. Totally loved this experience! Our guide was not only very friendly, but she also discussed so many facts and interesting new learnings about crocodiles and the other repriles they had, with me and my kids as well. It was lovely to watch my children's interest grow, and even after 1.5 hours, they still wanted to learn. I totally recommend Mamba Village. Only caveat is that the structures are old and not so well maintained but this does not take away from the learning experience.
M N — Google review
Adventure. The crocodiles (mamba) will definitely catch your eyes and they're beautiful ❤️👌
Ness A — Google review
We were lucky with the very friendly and informative guide Cynthia. Nevertheless, the parc is old and Big Daddy was not there. Wonder if he even still lives. Still saw a lot of crocs and some snake. Ok go there if you have some spare hours, certainly not a ‘have to see’
Jerry J — Google review
Plenty of crocodiles to see and a few snakes. Would recommend a visit if you have kids. 350 ksh per adult resident rate. Payment by card or M pesaro only - no option to pay by cash. Child buggy cannot be taken on trail as it is uneven and bumpy. Cafe available on site for hard and soft drinks. Staff and guide were friendly and helpful Takes about 30-40 minutes to do a round visit. Good experience overall. There is Opportunity to touch or carry a baby Croc and the snakes if you like. In terms of feedback- the snake area needs to be updated and better maintained Containers were dirty. Phone Numbers on Google were not working suggest an update be made.
Priyen — Google review
It was a great experience to see 300+ crocodiles together. The lady guide named synthiya was amazing 🙏🙏 . Once you are in Mombasa you must visit mamba village. The suggestion to mamba village is to improve cleanliness.rates are 350 for residents & 800 for non resident 👍

Amusement park
Wild Waters is a well-known water park situated in Mombasa, Kenya, offering an array of water-based activities and attractions suitable for families, groups, and individuals seeking excitement. The park boasts various thrilling water slides such as the Boomerango, Freefall, and Kamikaze slides. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a wave pool, lazy river, children's play area, and food options within the park.
This is a must go if you are spending holidays in Mombasa. I personally loved my experience with my family, lots of water games, The water slides, swimming, life guards are just around to guide people. Food is also served at the canteen. We were charged 1,700 per head nd 200 for the lockers. It was a good way to start the year 2024.

Loved everything about the place. Shout out to Shariff, he really helped us with our luggage. Generally, it's a good place for both adults and kids. You gotta try it. Get there early to have more fun The yellow dark slide, crazy slide that one😅 Be ready to scream the first time Their staff are amazing too. Great place all in all

The place is good though not as my expectations. It looked great on video. Less activities, hiegen issue around the washrooms. Customers should be prompted to take shower before the use the activities.

Totally wort a visit. Especially on a rainy day in October. We had the whole place almost for our self. No queuing.
Robert S — Google review
My experience was good. The last time I was at Wild Waters was in 2012, and the place brought back old memories. Although the slides can get a bit dry and cause the floaters to move, I had an incident. Luckily, the lifeguard, Eric Kioko, reacted quickly—shoutout to him!
Nardosteve — Google review
One of the attractions of the North Coast Mombasa. Tucked away within Nyali is the wild waters water park. This is a must do if you are taking kids to Mombasa. A whole day's activity for the kids and adults as well. School holidays can have huge numbers however it's worth the wait. The steps to get to the slides will provide you with a good work out.

Mombasa Go-Kart and Adventure Park, situated in Mombasa North Coast, is a top destination offering an array of activities such as go-karting, zip-lining, paintball, and bull riding. It's conveniently accessible by public transportation and ride-hailing services. The park also features modern attractions like mini-golf and family-friendly activities. With a professionally designed track for safe racing, it's suitable for both kids and adults.
We took the 1 hour for 2800 each. Sent mpesa transfer to the lady as I don't have mpesa so I used an app to transfer funds..was asked for extra 100 for withdrawal. I enjoyed my time and yes they are focused on safety. I don't know what you got for the 10 minutes but I had training lap, qualifying lap 5 laps, and the race 10 laps. I'm not competitive but they didn't take into consideration the qualifying lap at all for the race but I didn't care. Some might, though, as it was not enforced. Very helpful staff on the track and also on the restaurant for the most part. I would give it 4.5 because of the lady presenting the winners disregarding my discomfort needing to be seated next to a fan because of extreme heat nowadays March 2025. I would recommend and yes I would go back. I noticed kart #14 was much more powerful than #6 when I tried. Winner had kart #1! First time doing karting hopefully not the last. I liked how safety measures were enforced it seemed professional. Didn't try the food, or anything else just the go kart For more detailed unbiased reviews do not hesitate to follow.

If I could give zero stars to this place! I would! I have never been treated with such disrespect. We ordered food that we DID NOT get and then they forced us to pay or they called the police. The owner was an absolute disgrace. Tourists PLEASE BE WARNED! This place is horrible the food is bad and overcooked, the prices for rides are extremely overpriced. I really hope this business ceases to operate here, because from the terrible food and customer service they do not deserve to be operational. Many of the rides are broken and the wait for everything is extremely long in the heat. I hope another place opens and this one closes. They have a terrible system with the GoKarts and are simply trying to steal from their customers. I will be making more reviews of this place. UPDATE: since the “owner” has responded in a very immature and inappropriate fashion. I will continue to admonish people to stay away. The owners response to my initial review clearly demonstrates how disgraceful this place is and they absolutely have no consideration for the quality of their place and customer satisfaction. Please proceed with caution and use this discourse as more reason not to attend. I will work tirelessly to ensure people are not treated this way. Absolutely reprehensible behavior
Jay S — Google review
We often come here with our staff and also with our drivers who received their German work permits. I have been visiting since 2005, and every single time the experience has been excellent. Never once have I had a reason to complain. It’s truly unbelievable how Go Kart Shanzu has managed to maintain such a high standard for so many years.
Drivers4europe K — Google review
Affordable and good fun. They allow kids as young as 3 year to drive with assistance. 10mins ride costs 900/- per child. Safety gear was provided and pre driving instructions were clear. A footwear was provided ( make sure you have your own socks!) We went at 7pm, lights were not the best but did the job. Track is around 500M and cars are decent. Adults pay 1800/- for 10mins. Track and lap records are shared at the end. This was one of the more affordable go kart venues I have been to. There is a restaurant and kids play area as well.
Murtaza B — Google review
The grilled fish was undercooked and probably one of the worst I’ve ever tasted. The salami pizza was also disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place for food, but it’s worth visiting for the fun activities. Respond to your comment: Reviews like mine are meant to help improve the experience for everyone, and I believe it’s important to be honest about what stood out and what could be better. The least I expect in return is an acknowledgment of the feedback and a commitment to improving rather than shifting focus elsewhere. I hope my review can contribute to positive changes.

My visit to Mombasa Go-Kart and Adventure Park with my family and friends was an absolute blast from start to finish. From the moment we stepped foot into the park, we were greeted by an atmosphere buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The park's layout is well-designed, with a variety of activities spread out in a spacious and picturesque setting. We started off with the go-kart racing, and let me tell you, it was an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride like no other. Zooming around the track, competing against each other, and feeling the wind rush past us was an exhilarating experience that left us all grinning from ear to ear. What truly sets Mombasa Go-Kart and Adventure Park apart is its diverse range of activities. After our intense go-kart races, we decided to tackle the adventure course. From rope bridges to zip lines, cargo nets to climbing walls, the obstacle course provided a perfect blend of challenge and fun for both kids and adults alike. It was fantastic to see everyone pushing their limits and cheering each other on as we conquered each obstacle. Throughout our visit, the park staff were friendly, attentive, and dedicated to ensuring our safety and enjoyment. They provided clear instructions before each activity and were always on hand to offer assistance or guidance whenever needed. Their professionalism and enthusiasm added to the overall positive experience of our visit. One of the highlights of the day was the picnic area where we took a break to refuel and recharge. The park provides ample seating and shaded areas, making it a perfect spot to relax, enjoy some snacks, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. We appreciated the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities, which further enhanced our enjoyment of the day. Overall, our time at Mombasa Go-Kart and Adventure Park was nothing short of fantastic. It's the perfect destination for families and groups of friends looking to spend quality time together in a fun and thrilling environment. Whether you're a daredevil seeking adventure or simply looking to unwind and have a good time, this park has something for everyone. We left with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation for the thrill of adventure. We'll definitely be back for more adrenaline-pumping fun in the future!

Nyali Beach is a picturesque stretch of white sand that attracts visitors looking to swim, sunbathe, picnic, and unwind. It offers a serene escape close to the city with pristine water quality. The beach is popular during weekends, drawing families and friends seeking relaxation amidst palm trees and soft sands.
Great and thrilling place, but in the afternoons the tides rise too high, and the beach shores are covered by water, I recommend visiting in morning hours. Also the water is salty, avoid metallic wearables to prevent theme from coroding.
Maguku E — Google review
Quiet, clean, warm, beautiful. Local beach with few tourists. The sand is magnificent, brilliant white that doesn't get hot. The water was warm and the waves were perfect for all ages. Yeah there is a few sellers and camel owners at the beach, but they are not overly exhausting or unfriendly. Just be polite, say no and enjoy the Indian ocean by sunset. Magical.

It's a good chill out space if you want to experience the sea breeze, the ocean view, see the speed boat riding and for swimming. However, it's overcrowded in holidays

The Mombasa Butterfly House is a remarkable destination for both children and adults to explore the enchanting world of butterflies. Located in close proximity to Fort Jesus, this live butterfly exhibit provides an educational experience that showcases the fascinating life cycle of these creatures. The sanctuary offers a practical explanation of insect development and serves as an ideal place for learning about conservation efforts. With its well-maintained facilities, affordable admission fees, and beautiful butterfly displays, this destination is truly magnificent.
Had an amazing experience here. My guide Susan did a good job explaining how butterflies have a span of 4 weeks and their life stages from egg, larva, pupa then adult. The butterflies there, are not so many, about 10 of them and they ensure their environment is clean and that they cannot fly outside, hence the heavy net. They feed on nectar mostly from plants and flowers and there is one type of butterfly that cannot feed on those plants so they feed on rotten juice e.g orange juice. Entrance fees in the photos.
Nicole J — Google review
I took the very informative tour and it lasted for maybe 25 minutes. They’re definitely isn’t a lot of butterflies because they only live for a few weeks. And the organization is having a hard time getting farmers to give the foundation the cocoons. Farmers would rather sell the cocoons and make money. If you do go inside, be sure you bring mosquito repellent. I was eaten alive.

Excellent Place. I went there with two little girls, it was a mesmerising experience for them with all the beautiful butterflies and shining pupae. It's a place to get a practical explanation of the life cycle of insects. Ideal for kids and adults alike.

Indeed butterflies are self-propelled flowers, and in the cool wafting breeze of the pristine ocean breeze, adjacent to the Fort Jesus, is a home to tropical butterflies’. Mombasa Butterfly house holds innumerable butterflies of their magnificent kind. Their easy sweeps in the space and their majestic perches inspire a sense of tenderness, and strong will to live. It is at the butterfly house I penned this verse. I write of hearts, souls, life and essence Grandiose, majesty and quintessence Butterflies and life changes Metamorphosis and second chances I write for dreamers Those out of cocoon, the weavers Those of flaming dreams, mediocrity hate Who struggle and don't blame fate Who break chains to live Those who forgive And find in all things the goodness it brings Who have given their audacity wings Those who believe can fly like a butterfly.

This picturesque destination is surrounded by lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for spending quality time with friends and family. The waterfront features open-air restaurants, cafes, and cultural exhibitions to cater to visitors' needs.
Beautiful place with breathtaking views of the ocean. Perfect ace for reflection alone. There are alot of coastal snacks being sold by vendors all over the place. You can hire a seat and a table and sit right infront of the ocean.

The scenes are breathtaking. The likoni channel gives it the Aura. Not to mention the golf course (though exclusive)... Security provided for crowd control during events though need a refresher course on how to handle civilians. That is however a NPS (national police service) short coming. The most recent Tourism event was breathtaking. The rich culture and the carshow dominated the day.

Mama Ngina Waterfront. It is a Mombasa Coronation Driveway version, unique in it's own essence and historic by nature. The driveway cuts across the coronation linking the famous Likoni Ferry crossing and Mombsa Statehouse. On one side it faces the Likoni channel that links with the vast open Indian Ocean. It highly frequented by visitors both local and foreigners that come to enjoy the open sea breeze as the sip fresh Coconut 🥥 drinks (Madafu) and Fried Cassava Crisps (Kachiri) that isusuallys served with hot powdered chili 🌶 Masala, Salt and either lemon 🍋 or Tamarind.. There are alot of fun activities from camel 🐫 back rides or Horse 🐎 back rides.. For photograghers it is an ideal place to capture both, sun rise and sunset scenery against the back drop of the gigantic Baobab Trees adorning the area.

Bird watching area
Education center
Nguuni Nature Sanctuary is a vast wildlife preserve just a short drive from Bamburi. It's home to giraffes, ostriches, waterbucks, and various bird species. Visitors can enjoy picnics and guided tours while taking in the beautiful African wildlife. The sanctuary offers the opportunity to relax by a campfire with a cold drink as you watch the sunset amidst the bush.
What an experience to walk among giraffes and see how tall they actually are, to pick up tortoises who are too slow to run away from you and have no choice, and to get bitten by an ostrich. It is a way to spend the weekend, bring your picnic basket and favourite Afrobeats tunes. It's like a party in there. The staff was super nice and knowledgable about the animals. Just take in mind that it's not a zoo, the animals will roam right next to you, but that doesn't mean you should be chasing them around. That's not going to end well, obviously. Just a heads up if you're getting dropped off in the entrance, you still need to walk about 1km in. But it is a nice scenic walk to get to the animals.
Kit T — Google review
My partner and I just finished an amazing guided birdwatching tour this morning! We booked it pretty late the day prior, but they were incredibly accommodating. Our guide Omar was so knowledgeable about all the birds in the area, and had eyes like a hawk that spotted even the smallest of birds. He was fantastic, and I wish we had more time in the area to come back again! I didn’t take many photos since I only had my phone camera, but do suggest bringing a set of binoculars!
Elizabeth O — Google review
I had such an amazing experience at this Nguuni late last year. The place provided a serene environment to unwind, picnic and also share an intimate experience with the wild. The place is far from the main gate so i recommend using personal vehicle for easy accessibility or also you can always use local tuktuks.
Tashanel L — Google review
The sanctuary is a great spot for a picnic, games, or just relaxing. The roads are a bit rough, so it’s best to plan ahead for a car or tuk-tuk. It was amazing to see giraffes and ostriches up close. This is a wonderful place to visit, as long as animal safety measures are properly observed. I hope the sanctuary takes steps to ensure the protection of these animals.
Hellen B — Google review
Oh wow. Hidden gem of a place. 1000 shillings for foreigners and 400 for residents. Maybe a 20 minute walk to the picnic/viewing area with shaded huts to sit and watch. At first it was about 5 oryx antelopes that wandered out. Then the two guides got the herd of giraffes to appear. They were all very tame and comfortable eating around the viewing area. So many amazing photos. The giraffes have free range but the park is a few km wide so be patient with the guides as they round up the giraffes. 2 thumbs up!
GB — Google review
Amazing hidden gem in Mombasa! Walk with the giraffe and have a picnic with them! Buy your tickets directly from the Sanctuary in advance! Ask your driver to take you onto the Sanctuary to View Point. Arrange for a guide to meet you there. Our guide - Omar was amazing. So patient, friendly, knowledgeable and very considerate and caring. We had to walk through mud up to the view point and our trainers were ruined but we had much fun on the walk. Slipping and sliding everywhere! It was worth every moment - once you see the tortoise and giraffes. This was truly a perfect ending to our time in Kenya and after seeing giraffes around Kenya, feeding giraffes at Nairobi National Park - this was the ultimate - up close and personal.
D.M — Google review
If you fancy being in close proximity to giraffes, ostriches and gemsboks without the presence of a barricade, then this is the place for you. Carry your own meals and have a picnic by the giraffes or at the sundowner site. Having a personal vehicle for commute through the sanctuary is advised due to the distance from the entrance to where the animals are. Outstanding views are nonetheless promised as you take that drive to the animals and rid yourself of the fear of these beautiful creatures; only then will you truly enjoy your experience. In summary, a beautiful picnic spot that is lacking in your bucket list🫵🏾 ~22 Aug 2023~

Jumba La Mtwana, which means Big House of Slaves in Swahili, is a significant historical site located near Mtwapa Creek, about 15 kilometers north of Mombasa. Dating back to the 14th or 15th century, these ruins offer a glimpse into the area's rich past and its role as an important trade center for Swahili, Chinese, and Arab traders.
Jumba la Mtwana – A Journey Through Swahili History Jumba la Mtwana is a fantastic place to spend quality time with family while exploring the rich history of early Swahili culture. This ancient city, built around 1300, offers a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved ruins and fascinating stories. The entrance fee is quite affordable, with payments made via the government portal eCitizen – Ksh 100 for adults, Ksh 50 for kids, plus a Ksh 50 eCitizen fee. The process is straightforward, ensuring easy access to this historical gem. A special mention goes to Kevin, the local in-house guide, who took us through the site, explaining everything in English with great detail and enthusiasm. His deep knowledge and engaging storytelling made the experience even more meaningful. If you're in the area, Jumba la Mtwana is a must-visit for history lovers, families, and anyone looking to connect with Kenya's Swahili heritage.

It's a really nice beach to picnic because it's not busy at all. It can also be a good place yo swim when the tide is high. The museum, or site, is a lovely place to have a brief walk before heading to the beach. If you walk far enough down the beach, you could also find a few nice restaurants.

Located in Shanzu Mtwapa, this historical site is one to behold, the ruins and extensive learning you get to learn about different trees and how they are used by the community just explains why we are told that learning never stops. The entrance fee is 100 kshs per adult and 50 kshs per child for Kenyan citizens which is paid via ecitizen. After walking around the ruins you can walk to the beach and enjoy the views. They also have a restaurant,Moonsoon restaurant that you can drink or eat something during your visit here.

I had never heard of this place before 😆😆😆 so, after it was mentioned to me, I decided to visit so that I could stop being the only one in Mombasa who had never been there ....lol 😂 The reception was lovely though the payment process was long. You have to pay for you to enter the place, it's affordable 😉. There is a guide person who will be taking you round the place and giving you more information about things at the place. It's a good place to have a picnic because there is also a beach which you can access once you've paid the entrance fee. Good and amazing place to take pictures if you have a camera or a good phone 🤣🤣. The place is big with just remains of houses where others are labelled while others aren't. The place is historical because even the trees at that place look way older than I am or will be in the next 20 years 😁. There are dustbins around places so that the place can always be clean at all times, like no disposing of dirt around. Next time I'll be visiting the place with a lot of my friends and show them around and take cool pictures . N/B - The beach should be cleaned though, it was very dirty when I was there.
Diana C — Google review
If you are not a history buff, chances are that you may not enjoy the historical undertones of the ruins here. Other than its historical significance, it offers a quiet and serene place awash with the peace of an untamed forest. There is a certain sense of closeness to nature that grips you, with plenty of centuries old trees dotting the landscape. An ideal place for a picnic by the beach front. There's proper waste management, making the place clean. Customer service is excellent.
Ouya O — Google review
Third time here. I love the serenity of the place especially on the weekdays. I tour the Ruins, then settle on one of the benches and read or just write. You can also stroll the shore while you listen to a podcast or just silently lost in your own thoughts. They also sell some snacks like peanuts albeit expensively. The tickets are very affordable. You can also ask for a guide to take you through the Ruins and give you the history of each excavation. They have a small museum as well. The only downside is you cannot go farther down the beach because it is not safe. People have been mugged and harassed so be careful. The museum is also not well maintained.

True to its name, the beach is scattered with beautiful seashells and I picked quite a few during an evening stroll. There’s public access, which makes it easy to visit, but note that they restrict entry into the water after 6 PM. I went back the next morning and caught a beautiful sunrise. Mornings are definitely the best time - it’s quieter, perfect for a peaceful swim or just private chilling.

This is a public beach thus entry is free. It is close to Mombasa island and easily accessible by public transport. The beach itself is sandy and quite beautiful. However, it gets very crowded especially during festive periods and weekends. If you are looking for a peaceful beach to relax and unwind, this is not the place to go to. There are many vendors selling all kinds of street food and other items. You can also have a camel or horse ride on the beach (for a fee).

As a local tourist, it was a wholesome experience being the first time to touch the salty waters of the famous Indian Ocean. It was also great to learn that the moon's gravitational force shifts the waters just as Madam Lucy, my High school geography teacher, had taught me. Sand bathing, swimming, interacting, and madafu were a very awesome experience. Ni God manzee😅

A very accessible public beach, just off malindi road. At the entrance are people selling African ornaments and swimming costumes. You will be approached by very friendly guides incase you want to participate in water activities or you would like to hire floaters from them. They also take you to a place you can change into your costume. There are photographers incase you need a professional pictures of you at the beach. At the shores you can hire seats incase you just want to seat and watch the ocean and there are people selling madafu. You can also ride a camel at the beach for a fee. There are several hotels along the beach such as Milele hotel which is a non alcoholic and non smoking hotel. Then there is Pirates hotel and The New Big Tree hotel which allows both drinking and smoking. There are local women who also sell food at shelters famously known as kibanda in Kenya. Pirates beach is one of the free beautiful beach to hang out with family and friends and swim free charge.

Excellent and safe place to play around for kids. We had a great time. Real value for money and would surely visit regularly...We would also recommend to our friend circle... I brought my kids and little brother they had a blast. As a mom really enjoyed and had more fun, felt safe for my kids & what empresses me more, the place is clean, very safe for kids health. The satfs are too friendly to kids & active too. Thanks to the Kidzania Founder for bringing this best & safe place for our kids.

The place is actually fun for kids. I had kid at the age of 3 and 1, they have fun for over 4 hours and they didn’t get tired. Purchased drinks and snacks inside the place because it’s not allowed bringing in stuffs from outside. Also paid for some token, actually I hate the fact you need to purchase a membership card before using the arcade games. Aside from those, it’s fine by me. Spacious, neat( the cleaner cleans every minutes that I noticed), and not crowded. It’s worth the price. If you have the money and the time, go for it. You can go with a tripod for recording if you want to make video and play with your kids, though I didn’t go with tripod but if I had, I would have experience some babies enjoyment also. Also it’s free for one adult i.e the mother or father of the kids. Go along with socks for kids and yours. No cash, only MPESA.

The place is huge and very clean. The only issue we had was when it came time for lunch, you can't leave the place and come back after lunch, you can only eat from inside the place. There's a dining area at the top, and as an adult you'll pay an extra 500bob to go eat with your child. Also, you have to buy a membership card for 200bob in order to enter, this is on top of the 1500bob per child. We found that to be a bit unnecessary because we were touring Nyali for only one day.

Hello everyone, If you are looking for a great indoor play park for your little ones, Kidzania is perfect. My son is four and he loves it. I also enjoy the trampoline while he plays too. Who says adults can not have fun? I am a child at heart. The area is well air conditioned not too cold just right. The soft play area is a plus plus for little ones. The arcade several games. I gave it four stars because I think there could be more activities for the kids for example, certain days where they get like storytime and maybe a structured playtime.

We booked the Victor Tours and Safaris Mombasa . He was very friendly and accommodating. Our Safari Tour took 6 days and our guide has done everything we can for doing well. He was very friendly and very polite. Our accommodations were great, the food was very good and we saw a lot of animals. Lions, hyenas, elephants, game bees, crocodiles, hippos, giraffes and and and and. We were also very lucky because we witnessed the migration. Great, we would recommend everyone at any time.

We had a well organised Tour, always on Time and our Guide was very polite and always helpful. We were travelling with our 4 year old daughter and it was not a problem. The price was reasonable and the communication before, during and after was on point. Can only recommend.

Victor Tours and Safaris Mombasa is a fantastic your company. The guides are very knowledgeable about the game reserves, species of the animals, and in some cases they spotted animals with their naked eye that I couldn't find with my binoculars! In general, our group of eight was very satisfied.

Tamarind Dhow in Mombasa offers a unique dining experience aboard a dhow cruise along the city's coastline. Guests can enjoy a variety of seafood and other cuisines, including dishes cooked on board, while taking in breathtaking views of the city lights and the sea. The live band on board provides entertainment with entrancing music, adding to the romantic ambiance of the evening.
Great cruise and food with excellent attentive service. More than enough food to fill you up and the quality was also very good. There is a live band who plays nice music during the trip and are open to requests. It was my partner's birthday so they were also nice enough to sing happy birthday to her and give a slice of cake.
Lee — Google review
The Tamarind Dhow is beautiful. You get the beautiful coastal experience, fresh sea food, a band! And 4hours of a trip. They have a daytime and night time trips. Friendly staff too. Minimum 15 pax for the show to sail
Damaris N — Google review
Let's start with the word "Wow"! This experience was so lovely it moved me to tears internally, I couldn't ruin my makeup lol, and will hold a special place in my heart always. Bravo and hats off to the wonderful captain and crew service staffed on board the Tamarind Dhow. Let's start with my fear of missing the ship, enabling us to enjoy and wait for boarding at 6:30 at their lovely bar/high table drinking area. We enjoyed lovely moctails while seated high overlooking the city landscape, people speedboating and swimming in the ocean. Once it's time to board, you walk down an old pier onto the ship. Our seating, upstairs on the two level ship, was right beside the Captain, which offered great views and allowed us to have great conversation and share it with other lovely guests. Just know this lovely seat means you won't be the first or among the first to eat...they start at the base level. The welcome drinks were great, I enjoyed the virgin rendition because I don't drink Vodka. The prix fixe menu offered delicious meal options and the bread plate before the entrée was delicious. There's a very talented live band, that performed music that crossed generation, cross continents, and lifted most onto the dance floor! I definitely burned some calories before eating them again. That morning, my husband and I, shared a very private elopement and this was how we chose to celebrate our union. After being served a dessert platter that comes with the prix fixe menu, we were surprised with personalized dessert with a sparkler and the lead singer came up and sang the classic hit Celebrate; which we definitely did and will continually do with this lasting memory.
Nzingtha M — Google review
The Tamarind Dhow is an unforgettable experience. The last time I was on it was 20 years ago and the service is still impeccable, as is the food. Our server Mercy was very attentive. We had wanted the lunchtime cruise, unfortunately it didn’t happen since it requires at least 15 people to confirm. So the dinner cruise it was. We had a welcome drink, soup, salad, mains, coffee and great live entertainment. The dhow moved slow enough so those with seasickness need not worry. We got to meet the Captain and the Chef; all areas were accessible and there were numerous celebrations- from weddings to birthdays to high school graduations. Where the service needs immense improvement is definitely when it comes to making a reservation. If I hadn’t been persistently calling, we may never have made it in the boat.
Rosebelle O — Google review
What a fantastic way to celebrate my 60th birthday. All the food was amazing, (especially the butternut squash soup). Couldn't fault it.
Jeannette N — Google review
It is an excellent, worthwhile experience when you're in the area. As you wait for the dhow, you can sit and have some drinks at the Tamarind restaurant. Staff here are so friendly and professional. The boat ride starts around dusk, with the early evening sunset changing into night. There are nice views of land areas, and you might be able to spot some famous ones too. The music sets the mood well as you head towards an interesting bridge underpasss experience in the dark. The food and drinks on board are great. There is something for everyone. Again, the staff on board provides excellent service. Don't be afraid to ask for anything. After completing the loop, you head back to shore. By then, you're full of food and drink, along with great memories. Be sure to mind your step as you step off the dhow.
Hillary O — Google review
Amazing experience. The welcoming drink is a cocktail in very good portions! The food was amazing! A whole 4course meal. The ambiance was excellent with some good flowing music that's relaxing. I had an experience on the evening cruise and the staff were very welcoming and added on an extra course of meal to celebrate different guests including me and my friends. I would totally recommend the Dhow experience for anyone who would love to visit Mombasa.

Sprawling marine national park & popular spot for wind surfing, water skiing, snorkeling & diving.
Awesome saw, beautiful fishes like the zebra fish etc. these you see while snorkeling or from the glass bottom on the boat. At the reef you see as you walk towards the open sea live clumps, star fishes, sea urchins , sea cucumbers, spider fish, baby corals, brain corals. Pics below for brain coral and live clump.

Awesome! Right in the middle of the ocean. Used a glass boat to enable us see the under sea flora and fauna. The guides are very well versed with marine biology and they go explaining all the happenings. Kudos to the Kenya Wildlife Service for protecting the marine park. There are very nice views of the beaches form the park. Definitely worth a visit.

Lots of coral & fishes protected by Kenyan Marine officals for tourists. Private boats are prohibited in this particualr area for roaming and fishing so one can enjoy the beauty of the sea. During low tide you can actually see the colourful fishes, reefs & corals. Must do snorkeling there.

Nestled in the vibrant Nyali area of Mombasa, Mamba Village Centre is a delightful blend of adventure and education, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring East Africa. This playful amusement park features thrilling rides like bumper cars and a merry-go-round, perfect for families looking to have fun together. However, the real star of the show is undoubtedly its status as East Africa's largest crocodile farm.
Loved.
Great rides for the kids, decent prices and duration of the rides were amazing. Sarah kitheka is a great host
