St Mary on the Bridge Chapel, dating back to the 14th century, is a rare find as one of only six remaining bridge chapels in England. It was permitted to collect tolls from people and livestock crossing the bridge, generating significant income due to being the sole crossing over the Derwent in Derby for many years. Although an 18th-century structure now stands, there was a bridge at this site during the Saxon period.
Beautiful ancient and spiritual chapel on bridge... Not many of these chapels for traveller's to pray for a safe journey have survived!!

Lovely church, love the people. Great word and good sound. One thing I love is so many tribes are represented here. You see flags of so many countries. At Newlife you feel at home, and you can worship God freely without feeling embarrassed. Woodlands Church is a diverse and welcoming community that aims to embody the values of God's church. The church offers various groups for people of all ages, including primary and secondary school students as well as adults. Despite some technical issues during a visit by a secondary school, the church strives to provide a warm and inclusive environment for all visitors.
We were looking for a new church, and Woodlands gave us a very warm welcome. It's like a caring home, a friendly family, as well as a place where we can understand more about life and meaning, and find help with with problems. For those with small children or teens, there's lots for them to be involved in too.

Love attending the Acorns baby group on Mon, Wed and Fri mornings. It's a great opportunity for my little ones to play, explore new toys and meet other babies. It's also great for me to meet other mums and carers in the community and to grab a cuppa and a biscuit!
Heidi H — Google review
Full of people from different backgrounds, welcoming, hospitable, friendly. Woodlands also has great groups for primary and secondary school as well as adults. Really sorry to hear of the 2-starred review. This was probably when our fantastic secondary school came to use our church and something went wrong with our church technology (as it's bound to). Apologies. Hope he felt welcomed regardless of this fault as a church is, hopefully, about more than providing a service :)

Church
Derby Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of All Saints, is a stunning example of Georgian-style architecture located in the heart of Derby. The cathedral offers visitors a chance to explore its rich history and intricate design. Dating back to the 10th century, it showcases impressive Gothic architecture and features a 16th-century tower that opens monthly for visitors to climb its 189 steps to reach the roof.
Most unusually, a Georgian cathedral. Originally, a medieval parish church, but all that remains thereof is the bell tower. Rebuilt in Georgian times, quite exquisitely. Raised to cathedral status a century ago. It is modest, not monumental. I attended Choral Evensong. Which, I adored. The locals appear to agree. Rightly so.
Stephen P — Google review
I have visited many Churches over the years, mainly for the architecture not for any affiliating religious beliefs. And this particular church is somewhat different in design. Brilliant white walls and decor that was explained to me by an official as being Gothic. I have never related Churches to being Gothic but in this case it was pleasant. The white, plaster walls, were also different from the usual stonework configuration. A few people in, there was some kind of Christening service rehearsal going on I believe. An overall pleasant change from the dark interiors of a lot of churches. I would even go so far to say more welcoming. A surprise when we entered but a pleasant surprise. There was also another surprise down some steps, a small chapel for private prayer.
Brandyandcoke R — Google review

Meet some nice people trying to entertain and attract your children into the place, the location and some culture, to also back up and reinforce educational experience with regards to the church, the building and of course the religious aspects. Worth a visit for sure.

Quite a small cathedral compared to other major cathedrals in the uk. A very nice gothic and neoclassical style building with quite bright lighting inside. The staff was nice and we had small talk over my pilgrim passport which he fave me a small stamp for.

Really stunningly beautiful interior, James Gibbs about 1720s. The two modern windows worked well, the ironwork chancel gate is a wonderful piece of work. Extraordinarily elaborate tomb of Bess of Hardwick, she of the Very Rich Husbands!. Also an older very dark wood carved effigy which is worth looking out for. We went to a Sunday service and were welcomed to coffee afterwards. While we were there, we were just lucky to be treated on the Saturday to an Elvis Tribute band, which was an absolute blast! Included Amazing Grace, which suited the cathedral well.

Nestled on Bridge Gate in Derby, St. Mary’s Church Hall is a charming historical chapel that dates back to 1838. This architectural gem, designed by the renowned Pugin, offers visitors a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The church features a beautifully refurbished Lady Chapel added during renovations in 1932, making it an ideal spot for quiet reflection or prayer.
A beautifully decorated church, definetly worth a visit even just for the gem of artistry inside and out of the building.

Beautiful and well-kept architecture.

A little hard to find through the small back streets when driving but worth it, much easier to find if walking as over the flyover at the end of the high street. Good amount of car parking available.

This is a lovely Pugin church but not always open to the public. The new refurbishment of the lady chapel is worth the visit and Mass is said at midday in the chapel most days. It's a quiet place for prayer and reflection amongst the noisy bustle of the city.

St Peter's Church in Derby is a charming blend of history and modernity, making it an inviting destination for visitors. Upon entering, you’ll find a lively atmosphere with a café and an array of colorful personalities that add to its unique character. While the churchyard may have some remnants of neglect, such as an old duvet, the interior remains well-maintained and welcoming. This church serves not only as a place of worship but also as a community hub where various activities take place beyond religious services.
I visited this lovely church to attend a Kintsugi study day. It's a lovely welcoming church right in the heart of Derby City centre.
Carl H — Google review
Nice old church, visited for the first time. Sad to see a old disused duvet in the churchyard and it is known for people hanging around who can be a little intimidating, however I had no problems. Inside was busy with a cafe and a few colourful characters, no one asked me my business or approached me in a friendly way so I took some great photos and explored. Found the door to the bell tower. Would love the chance to go to the top of I ever get the chance. Don't be scared pop in and explore fantastic font, stain glass window from the old Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and a ww1 memorial. Local history on your doorstep.

Attending a course here and from the point of view as a conference venue I can't fault it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and spacious. The church itself is a pleasant place; modern yet traditional all at the same time! The modernisation has been very tastefully done.

In these difficult and unprecedented times, just when you think no one cares, the system which you had paid into lets you down and your whole world comes crashing down in a blink of an eye. With no fault of your own! Friends and family turn their backs and cut of ties. St Peter's Church came to my rescue. A natural ray of light from God's Kingdom. I simply cannot express my gratitude to you all. May you all stay blessed and safe in these dark times.

During my recent visit to St. Matthews Church in Morley, I had the pleasure of meeting Sheila Randall, the Church Warden. Her extensive knowledge about the church and its history was captivating, making our conversation truly enjoyable. Sheila played a significant role in securing a lottery grant for the renovation of the mausoleum, showcasing her deep commitment to preserving this historic site. The church itself is beautifully quaint and nestled in a serene rural setting, offering visitors a peaceful retreat.
Went to see this church today and met the most wonderful lady (Church Warden)Sheila Randall,She has a far reaching knowledge of the church and surrounding area and the most lovely way of telling it that keeps you facinated, she played a big part in getting the mausoleum renovated with a lottery grant and she obviously cares deeeply about the church and job,,would you believe she has actually been to the top of the church spire twice? i would not have the bottle to go up once, lol,, by far the most lovely and charming church i have ever had the pleasure of visiting,,a must see for anyone, highly recommended..and thank you sheila for your charming hospitality,((Brett and Shane Mclean/Smith))

St Werburghs Church, an Anglican establishment with medieval roots, displays a gothic-style tower rebuilt in 1608. In 1699, the Chancel was incorporated, while the remaining sections underwent reconstruction during the 1890s. This catholic-oriented church warmly welcomes individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds without any biases. Its inclusive nature is demonstrated through its Sunday weekly mass at 10 am and friendly acceptance towards people of every orientation and racial origin.
I have never met a more chill vicar: Me: Can we bring children to the wedding? Vicar: Sure, kids will be kids and if anyone complains then they can sit in the cheche room. Vicar: I am sorry if the church has shunned you because of your sexual orientation. *Vicar walks up the isle in full CoE garb including large robe* *Imperial death march plays* Vicar - to musicans: Are you finished?
Jonny W — Google review
Oh the great fire of Spondon. A truly fascinating historical event that will forever affect the history books. This event brings a tear to my eye whenever I am reminded of the sheer tragedy of it. My father recalls the flaming spire as grain poured upon the stupendous Spondon Street. Long live Spondon. SPONDON TILL I DIE.
Joe M — Google review
This is an excellent welcoming church in the catholic tradition with none of the hang-ups! It has a Sunday weekly mass at 10am, and practises what it preaches in its friendly acceptance across all age groups and every spectrum of orientation and racial origin. A rare and beautiful place which has not been phased by lock-downs or embracing new tech. Go there when you can but tune in for the moment.

Fantastically welcoming community representing an unusual mix of liberal Anglo-Catholicism. The Parish Priest was very friendly and delivered am engaging and thought provoking homily. The atmosphere was inclusive with consideration for Christians with a wide range of backgrounds. Not reviewing the people as I'm sure they are all lovely, however the heart and soul of the building has been systematically ripped out. The original pews have gone, the font and pulpit have been moved 'out of the way' and the victorian tiled flooring has been carpeted. A massive shame for the history of the church as it was linked so strongly to the regimental history of Derby. Still a beautiful building from the outside, but the internal alterations made me cry.

All Saints' Church in Breadsall is a remarkable 12th-century grade 1 listed building with a rich history. It suffered damage from a fire caused by suffragettes around 1914 but was restored and reopened in 1916. The church is the final resting place of Erasmus Darwin, an esteemed 18th-century physician and member of the Lunar Society. Visitors can explore the intriguing churchyard and admire its architectural features, although some find the pews uncomfortable.

After being a Church of England student between 1992-1998 and attending this church on a regular basis for school plays and then being away for 30 odd years it was a strange feeling to be back but I was warmly welcomed, it's a real church and the only one I'll get back to when I can. It's full of nice people. It's beautiful how children get blessed on stage where I once was. The choir singing can sometimes cause me to well up. I know that if I can't make it in person that I'll attend online but it's so much better in person, that way you get the full experience and have a chat and a tea or coffee afterwards.

St Johns church is such a stunning building, I have always admired this church having driven past it for 35 years. Built in 1828 and located on Derby's inner ring road its one of those places that everyone drives past but its well worth stopping and having a look. Church
The Holy Trinity Church is a beautiful and welcoming place, where many people find solace and comfort. It holds special significance for those who have lost loved ones, providing a space for memorials and remembrance. Pastor Errol Vassell, known affectionately as Errol, leads the congregation with warmth and openness, making everyone feel like part of the church family. For those seeking a supportive community during difficult times, this church offers a place of belonging and spiritual guidance.
What a beautiful welcoming church. We were so blessed to have our dear late mother's memorial there. As we were unable to have a proper funeral due to lock down this memorial was so important to our families and friends of our mother. Paster Errol Vassell who introduced us as Errol who is shared, yes he is the Pastor but wanted us to know his name and he welcomed a church full of family and friends. One of many beautiful memories that blessed me was, he wanted our children to freely enjoy themselves including any noise they chose to make. Pastor Errol said, "When you hear a child, it means church is a live!" And there was one particular two year old who was fascinated by the musicians in particular the bass guitar. You could see him slowly yet freely edge his way towards the platform during praise and worship. The worship team and Pastor Errol didn't discourage this child who had stepped up onto the platform, they beamed with welcoming smiles which clearly the child was relaxed and happy to sway to the sound of worship. Clapping his hands which not only encouraged us all it also blessed the worship team too. Pastor Errol encouraged us to clap for this tiny little boy with mighty faith of God to freely worship without any inhibitions which often, as adults our inhibitions can hold us back from freely letting go in our worship. The family had personalised what we wanted to share and celebrate about our dear mother including the order of service. Sister Geraldine, Pastor Errol's wife freely gave her time, support and encouragement throughout the plans leading up to the memorial. It's been a very long time since I walked into a church where I felt completely at ease and at home since the covid lockdown. Even family and friends you could see and sense how relaxed and welcomed they felt from start to finish. I know Pastor Errol wouldn't take the credit for that, he and I knew it was because the power of the Holy Spirit reigned and was on fire throughout our time there. We were visitors there, yet I didn't feel like a visitor I truly felt like I was home with God's family. Heaven and earth truly united with the angels and I know mum and all those who were also believers of Jesus in heaven would be rejoicing in heaven. I feel beautiful seeds from heaven had fallen upon those who yet to believe that Jesus is their Lord and Saviour. I look forward to visiting this beautiful family of God church and I thank Pastor Errol and sister Geraldine for blessing my family and friends of our dear late mum and see you very soon. Why don't you visit too and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed. God's blessings.

I visited Potters House Church on their Sunday night service. What a service it was. The congregation, we’re young and seasoned. Which was nice to see. The worship was beautiful, and the Pastor and his wife are very nice and welcoming. They have 3 services a week. Sunday at 11am, Sunday at 7pm and Wednesday at 7.30pm. Which I find is brilliant. I’m looking forward to going again. The Church is very much spirit led. And a blessing to the community.

This is a church with a difference. Positive energy, they focus on God but are real about people's lives and no that we all go through struggles. The support and help is amazing and very family orientated and then for the younger people, you will have an amazing time. Concerts, events, BBQ's and and peace
