Historic Sites
Roosevelt Campobello International Park, located in New Brunswick, is the former summer home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, now transformed into a museum within a vast seaside nature park with trails. Visitors can reach the island via a bridge from Lubec, Maine or by ferry from L'etete to Deer Island and then to Campobello Island. The park offers over 8 miles of scenic roads and walking trails for exploration.
We've visited 3 times in the last two years and every time it has been a good experience. The museum/gift shop is very informative and inviting. The grounds are immaculate and lovely. The free tour of the Roosevelt cottage is engaging.

This was a cool place with a lot of history. There was no charge to enter and they provided a tour of Roosevelts 18 bedroom summer cottage. There's a small visitor center with collectible stamps for those who stamp at national parks and national historic sites. There's a small gift shop and a restaurant on site as well. Their gardens and landscaping are very well kept and we're beautiful to look at as well.
Lisa J — Google review
A fantastic visit. Bathrooms are located at the visitor center with modern amenities. Plenty of parking. Staff is extremely helpful and does a great job providing information. Tours are great and informative with tours leaving every 15 minutes. We were there during the shoulder season, so it was not too crowded. There are three properties to visit, 4 if you include Prince Cottage which is their restaurant a definite must try. There are also walking and bike / carriage paths to visit and take in the island scenery. Be advised that the island is on Atlantic time. Our phones did not switch over from Eastern until we were further north on the Island so pay close attention if you are attending events at a specific time. There are clocks in the visitor center if you need to acclimate. The gift shop has a great selection of books on the Roosevelt family as well.

We came for the day on a Friday. Going through Customs at Lubec was painless and the park is anshort way across the border with ample parking. The information center is very well maintained and staffed. I got a map of the grounds and one of Campobello Island and used the very clean restroom. No pets except service animals are allowed in any of the buildings so we took turns minding our maltipoo and taking the 30 minute tour of the Roosevelt cottage. Tours are every 15 minutes so it was easy to get in 2 consecutive tours. It was very interesting and the guide was well informed and very likeable. I wandered the grounds and went down to the boat dock while waiting my turn for the tour. There are several other buildings and cottages as well. We had lunch at the Prince Cafe just down the lawn from the Roosevelt Cottage, very good food and ample servings. We sat outside on the veranda with our dog and ate with a lovely view. Service was very good and prices reasonable.
David E — Google review
Lots of history here as the 40 room house is full of family pictures, memorabilia and original furniture. I loved the large kitchen and “president” stove. Be sure to have Tea with Eleanore in another property that was donated to Campobello. A history of the former 1st lady is told during tea time. All free.
Tyler D — Google review
Such a beautiful spot filled with so much history! It was torrential rain when I was there, so I didn't get a chance to fully explore all the trails in the park. I think a second trip may be needed! My tour guide was wonderful and brought alive the spirit of the Roosevelts. The Visitor's Center is full of information as well as fun souvenirs.
Sharon D — Google review
An historical wonder, being that Canada and the USA share operations of this park. It is free to enter and go into the buildings. You can pay to have tea and cookies at "Tea with Eleanor" or "Cocktails with Franklin", but throwing the buildings is free. Incredible restorations and history.
Matthew W — Google review
A special place indeed. An "international park" as they call it, although you must be in Canada for visit. The site of President Roosevelt's summer cottage and area he met his wife. When we went the visitors center had just closed, but the staff were extremely helpful in going back inside unprompted and providing us with maps and assistance. They went the extra mile and made our brief trip well worth it. The cottage itself seems marvelous. There are views looking out to Eastport, Maine which seems so close you could cast a stone to it's shores. The trails make for lovely strolls. Worth a visit.

West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is a well-preserved historic site with a charming keeper's house and an on-site visitor's center. The small museum offers insightful displays about the lighthouse's history, local flora and fauna, as well as a guide to whale watching. Visitors can enjoy stunning views from the picnic area and explore coastal trails with glimpses of Grand Manan Island across the Quoddy Channel.
Very fun to say you've been to the easternmost point in the contiguous US! Quiet location with a few neat walking trails and sights. Worth the drive from Bar Harbor / Acadia area for a day trip!
William M — Google review
Such a great stop for the whole family. It’s really affordable and super easy to get to, which made it stress-free. It was busy when we went, but it never felt crowded or overwhelming. The views are gorgeous, and there are miles of scenic trails that are well-marked, easy to walk, and perfect for just wandering around and taking it all in. Just a short walk or drive away there’s also a little sandy beach that was a big hit with the kids. Nice and clean, and a great place to relax for a while. Between the lighthouse, the trails, and the beach, there’s plenty to see and do without feeling rushed. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
Aaron N — Google review
This was a great point of interest! The light house and the views were so pretty! If you make ot to the light house there is a trail that takes you on a beautiful hike on the cliffs edge with breath taking views and one of our favorite beaches we visited!
Jordan C — Google review
The lighthouse was closed for the day but the view from the cliff was nice, and we easily found some nice hiking/walking trails in that state park. They led to the rocks at low tide and provided some very nice views. The trail into the arctic bog was more fascinating than expected.
Howard K — Google review
780-mile drive? Worth. Every. Mile. This red-and-white striped beauty sits at the easternmost tip of the continental U.S.—cue dramatic Atlantic waves, salty breezes, and jaw-dropping views. Stroll the cliffs, snap the iconic “Welcome to the East” sign, and watch the light sweep across the ocean—it’s a total soul reset. Lubec’s cozy streets and fresh seafood make it the perfect road-trip cherry on top. Pro tip: Dress in layers—this lighthouse has a personality, and it’s windy.
Lawkaanat — Google review
A few other people but beautiful and definitely a place to hangout for a little bit. The 2 hikes right there on the cliffs have amazing views as well.
Jax — Google review
Unfortunately it was foggy for the sunrise but it cleared up in a few hours, to be a beautiful day, well worth the walk around and down to the water, many different geological features in a condensed area.

The Quoddy Head lighthouse.. is the eastern most point in the contiguous United States. It’s a nice lighthouse to see. I would like to note that in the first picture I did remove the fence that they have to make a better picture. Thought I’d be honest. Enjoy! It’s a great stop.

Boat Tours
Downeast Charter Boat Tours, operated by a couple, offers unique whale watching excursions on their 25-foot lobster yacht. In addition to spotting whales and seals, the tour includes a ride to see the Old Sow, the largest tidal whirlpool in the western hemisphere. Pass by lighthouses and enjoy personal experiences due to small group sizes. Guests have seen various wildlife like bald eagles and porpoises during their tours.
We had an excellent time and they really worked hard to get us out on the water to see the Old Sow. The weather can be tricky in the shoulder season but we were able to go and had a great time. We were able to see The Sow, several seals, light houses, great views of East Port and Lubec from the water, and even some eagles nesting. I enjoyed the small tour and our Captain was fantastic. He had excellent knowledge of the area and a great eye for spotting wild life. One of our all time favorite cruises. Communication in and around booking was fantastic! It's also one of the best ways to see the Head Harbor Light House without wanting for low tide. We loved it and will definitely do it again! I highly recommend it!!
The L — Google review
Wonderful experience all around. The boat is a perfect size and well tended. Captain Ralph and crew are very knowledgeable and clearly invested in creating a quality experience for their guests from start to finish. In addition to the stunning landscape, we saw whales, gray seals and harbor seals, porpoises, bald eagles, and many marine birds. Great price for a tour of this length and quality!
Claire H — Google review
Great experience. Didn't see whales, but saw seals and bald eagles. (Still early in the season, although whales were seen earlier in the day.) Captain and first mate were great and very knowledgeable about the area. Boat is covered and comfortable. Weather was very nice but it does get cold out on the water.
Michelle G — Google review
Took the Downeast Charter Boat Tours which is located beside the Inn on the wharf. The office manager was very friendly and attentive. After we booked she called us to ensure we got on the right tour. Captain and first mate were super friendly and knowledgeable. We saw a Minke whale, seals and bald eagles!
Tom K — Google review
This was the best boat tour I’ve been on. We saw so many animals. I learned so much about the area. Captain Ralph really works hard to make sure everyone can see the sights and animals. When I was leaving after the tour, a family was about to go out but one of their children didn’t want to go. Carol went to the family car. She kindly greeted the girl, telling her she was so glad she was there. The girl ended up changing her mind and went to the boat.
Amy C — Google review
What a wonderfully unique experience!!! This was the smallest boat we have ever toured on. With only 6 of us on board the experience was very quaint and personal. We saw it all!!! We saw 6 whales, many seals, beautiful bold eagles, razorbills, and schools of porpoise. To be in the Bay of Fundy brought us so much joy… but the Old Sow!!! Unbelievable!!! I totally recommend this tour and look forward to another trip out on our next visit!!! Captain Ralph is the best captain ever!!
Karl G — Google review
We had a great experience taking the 2.5 hours whale watching tour to the mouth of the bay, where we saw whales and seals. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable. We were particularly impressed with the attention to kids' safety and making sure everyone wore their lifevests at all time, as this is a smaller boat. We also liked that they were proactively watching the weather and fog, and not booking trips that they estimated they would not be able to make - unlike some outfits that let you book and then cancel at the last moment...
Uri D — Google review
Up from KY to visit my home state with my husband. We got a great little tour of the local wildlife (seals, porpoise, whale, eagles) and view of the whirlpool! Hope we can come back soon!

Specialty Museums
The McCurdy Smokehouse Museum in Lubec, located on Water Street, delves into the town's deep connection with fishing and the economic significance of smoking and tinning fish. Housed in a weathered shingle-sided building on tall wood pilings over the water, it was once an industrial fish processing facility and is believed to be the last intact herring processing facility from the early twentieth century in Maine.
A wonderful woman told me the history of this place. Such a special gem to the town of Lubec.
Celeste Ö — Google review
The tour was a great introduction to a very important slice of Lubec history. Highly recommended!
Jack D — Google review
Highly recommend checking out this museum if you're in the area. The gentleman who is giving the tours currently worked here for six years, so he has first hand experience in how the smoking of the herring and sardines was done. Apparently this was the last operating smokehouse in the United States and it closed in the early 90s due to the FDA requiring them to remove the enterals of fish in the beginning of the process, rather than the end, which this was not set up to do. There was also a building that used to be across the river and it floated away during a high tide. Another building that was attached to the current museum was also lost a few years ago during a bad winter storm. They are currently trying to raise money to lift up the buildings several feet higher, as two of them flood as much as a foot of water during extreme high tides, so they are also at risk of collapse or floating away. Inside you'll find posters with information on how the mackerel were caught, strung onto rods for smoking, smoked (for two months!), then taken down for processing and packaging. There used to be smokers and canneries all over Maine, but this is a one of a kind now, despite being a booming industry for so long. Still smells like fish now, and it was 10x stronger back in the day. Imagine how it was in the 30s when there were multiple smokers and canneries running! Highly recommend checking out this cute little piece of history if you're in the area to learn a lot more about Maine's history, as well as support their effort in saving these buildings.
Ian P — Google review
I’m always up for a historical tour and the museum definitely did that. You’ll watch a short film about its history then you’re free to roam the building. The man who was there the day I went was very friendly and let me ask a gazillion questions. After that we chatted for quite a while about all kinds of stuff. I’d go back for sure if we were in Lubec again.
Stephanie W — Google review
McCurdy represents a part of Lubec’s maritime history. Lubec had a significant role in producing canned sardines. The Smokehouse was part of the process to smoke the fish. According to the tour, they used rods as part of the smoking process. In the day there was also a brining shed.
Perks A — Google review
Very nice small museum capturing the now gone herring smoking industry that once thrived in Lubec. Museum is located in the last of the facilities in Lubec (and the USA) and yes, it still has that distinct fishy smell! The gentleman on duty when we visited was so kind and informative. He walked us through the entire process and history, including its demise in the 1990s. Only $4 adult less a $1 discount if you have AAA. Well worth the time if you are stopping in Lubec or visiting Campobello Island.
M R — Google review
Found this very interesting given an entire way of life had disappeared in this town. My tour guide was soooo cool, forget his name but he made the visit for me. I come from a fishing family and listening to him reminded me of my great uncles and their tales of the "old days".

Boot Head Preserve Trailhead offers a stunning and private experience with dramatic coastal vistas, diverse birdlife, and well-maintained trails. Visitors can enjoy picnics, sunrise views over the Grand Manan channel, and winter snowshoeing. The area's rugged coastline and pocket beaches provide breathtaking scenery, while occasional wildlife sightings add to the allure. This unspoiled gem is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts seeking a peaceful escape in Maine.
Magical place for an afternoon hike! All the inviting thru the forest, pretty wildflowers and let's not forget the incredible Maine coast line! Pups had a much fun as we did!!
Dana S — Google review
This was a stunning hike with absolutely incredible views. This is a well worth while hike. As view per mile goes, this is the top of my list!
Max T — Google review
This trail is a pretty easy hike that offers beautiful views of the jagged coastline. The woods are super peaceful, especially in the winter when hardly anyone uses the trail. Be on the look out for spruce grouse
Casy A — Google review
This may be the most extraordinary place on the east coast south of Cape Breton. Hard to find such a beautiful place kept in such a pristine state. The ones responsible for its upkeep really do an incredible job. The walkways and trails are in perfect condition. Most importantly, the views of the coastline seen in this area appear to belong on the Pacific Ocean rather than Maine. It’s about as rugged as a coast can get and even puts Acadia to shame. To be honest, this preserve as a whole puts the rest of the Maine coast to shame.
Reeshi H — Google review
Mild/moderate hike through several types of terrain with many birds and the most amazing breathtaking view I've ever seen. Pocket beaches that roar with the waves making football size boulders roll back and forth in rich colored waters. Grand Manan isle can be seen on clear days, occasional whales, seals, eagles and osprey.
Chris M — Google review
Stunningly beautiful, unspoiled Maine. This hike rivals Quoddy Head without the crowds. Thank you Maine Coast Heritage Trust for saving this beautiful place from development!

Nature & Parks
Quoddy Head State Park is located on the easternmost peninsula of the United States, offering stunning views of the Quoddy Channel and Grand Manan Island's red cliffs. The park spans over 500 acres and features scenic trails, diverse wildlife including purple sandpipers and humpback whales, and the historic West Quoddy Head Light. Visitors of all ages can enjoy easy hikes along picturesque cliff views, with options like the Coast Guard Trail running for about one mile.
Awesome visit, even in the rain! Like being in a postcard. Exceptionally kept walking trails along the rocky cliff. I noticed a few elderly visitors managing the paths without difficulty. Picnic tables and barbecues in locations with spectacular views along with the salty air is a one of a kind experience. Don't miss it!
Mary K — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse with scenic coastal trails. When we arrived, it was foggy, but luckily it cleared up enough for us to catch views of the nearby islands and a little bit of Canada! The hiking trails along the shore are peaceful and well-kept. Our phones switched to the Canadian time zone while we were there, which made the drive seem longer than expected until we realized what happened. A unique spot worth visiting.
Lynn T — Google review
This place was beautiful…abundant and outstanding views from well cared for grounds and walking paths. We were there on an absolutely gorgeous day with loads of marine wildlife and sea birds visible. The walking paths down to the rocky beach are a nice bonus. Plenty of parking and well worth the trip.
Chris M — Google review
A beautiful lighthouse at the end of the United States. A beautiful little park that you pay on the honor system. They have a bathroom located about 100 yards from the lighthouse. The lighthouse is handicap accessible, and there is parking closer to it. This lighthouse is a must visit if you’re on the east coast of northern Maine with great views of the Bay of Fundy and Canada across the way. This is a great place to enjoy and there are small hikes. This is a no drone zone. If you’re coming here, don’t forget to bring a few dollars with you so you can make a donation to get in. If you’re parking, there’s plenty of parking spots, but it is not paved just in case you like your fancy car.

West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and State Park is absolutely gorgeous! We only stopped briefly to see the lighthouse and snap a photo at the easternmost point of the United States, but it’s clear this spot deserves much more time. The park has beautiful trails and breathtaking views that make it worth a longer visit. Highly recommend adding it to your Maine trip!
Serena C — Google review
Well worth the hour detour to see the easternmost point in the continental US. Even on a cloudy day, it was a great view of the Maine coast and a lovely light house. We did not spend much time, but looked like a nice place to hike and spend some quit time outside.
HannaH W — Google review
My mom and I visited Quoddy Head State Park on Monday, September 29th. The building was closed because of the head lighthouse was the need of more painting but we spent a good time to look at the lighthouse, the surroundings, and the ocean! Also, we went out for a walk on Inland Trail and saw the Sail Rock and Grand Manal Channel of Canada. It was another great state park to see. It was very quiet being there but we saw a bunch of people there. Also, there’s a lack of WiFi connection because our phones thought we were in the Canada. We surprisingly didn’t know this state park is also at the easternmost point of the United States of America!
Cody B — Google review
Awesome lighthouse to visit and super nice grounds. We did the longer of the hikes and it was soooo worth it. The 4.3 mile hike was not very difficult, took aboht 2.5 hours with multiple stops and photos. Super awesome place to visit and the eastern most point in the United States.

While exploring this area, don't miss out on other nearby lighthouses like the Little River Lighthouse and West Quoddy Head Lighthouse.
Beautiful lighthouse

Can't get close without a boat, but our views from our West Quoddy Station rental house were very cool. Beautiful clear view, then fog rolls in and completely obscures the lighthouse . Wait five minutes and there is a clear view again. Like a scene from a movie...
Larry V — Google review
No boat so no chance to see close. If you can get far shots, there's a couple places coming from Quoddy that will let you get this one too. The tide swing is amazing...close to 20 as evidence by the background. This was already 2 hours past low.

Lubec, eastern most US town, sadly, not much going on here. Has a lot of potential but everything is closed, not sure if it is due to covid or just economic decline. Not worth visiting at this time.

"The Inn on the Wharf" is a charming bayside motel located in a former factory, offering picturesque water views and boat storage. The staff is known for being exceptionally friendly and helpful. The spacious rooms provide beautiful direct views over the water, with guests often too captivated by the scenery to miss having a TV in their rooms. Common areas are perfect for socializing while enjoying the stunning view, and there's a convenient common kitchen with morning coffee available.
I can't recommend this inn, enough. My husband and I have stayed there a few times the last few months while looking to purchase property in Lubec. And the rooms here are delightful and charming. Clean and the host, Nadia, is just lovely and so accommodating. Stay here if you get the chance. The view is STUNNING.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The views from our room were out of this world. Saw an eagle fly by outside our window one day. Room was quaint and clean. Staff were really friendly. Restaurant had really good food and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Took the Downeast Charter Boat Tours which is located beside the Inn. Captain was super friendly and knowledgeable. We saw a Minke whale, seals and bald eagles!
Tom K — Google review
Upon arriving at the Inn, we were wonderfully surprised by the view and proximity to the water!! There is also a common dining and kitchen area for guests to share, along with a small selection of books. Truly wish we could have stayed longer!
Natan T — Google review
I went often in years pastand maybe it's changed hands but definitely it's changed machines. The waitress brought a bill to our table, no breakdown of prices, she had put her own 20% tip in and there was no way to change the default. Maybe it's not even her fault and it defaults to 18-20%. I asked if I could put my own tip in and she got defensive. There was no way to change the tip to what I wanted. If I eat here again, I'll definitely pay cash!
Lori A — Google review
Natasha went above and beyond for us! We called last minute (at night) and set us up in a wonderful apartment with 2 King Beds & 2 Full bathrooms! Included was a washer and dryer, which was a bonus! They even cooked us meals even though the restaurant had just closed. The bed was very comfortable! We couldn't have asked for more! Thank You!!
Susan B — Google review
Unexpected gem. We read reviews, and I think there's some confusion about the parts of the inn--there's a section that is closer to the restaurant, and then this section, more recently built, which are more independent rooms. Grab the latter! The view of this hotel is remarkable: We got up early to view th sunrise, and it was spectacular. And if there's fog (which, be clear--there probably will be), it's a moody and serene experience. The room itself is very stark, but it's all about the view. Disliked · If noise bothers you, be aware that creaking floorboards from above happens--pay for the upper unit. If sharing a deck bothers you, pay for the upper unit. You basically hear everything. The room is also a bit Spartan, but it's ok for us. The view makes up for it.

BED BUGS IN THE RUM RUNNER ROOM! Booked this place for our anniversary and, as we were settling in for bed, noticed bed bug nymphs crawling all over the pillows and from beneath the comforter. Immediately grabbed all of our belongings and called the front desk to report it. The owner arrived shortly thereafter with another staff member to inspect, confirming our suspicions. She indicated that she only bought the place last year, that the cottages are owned by a separate entity than the rest of the inn, and that this sort of thing happens since “people just bring these on their luggage.” She shared that she owns another operation in Missouri that has had an infestation and that the treatment is very difficult to take care of. She asked us what our plans were, and dumbfounded, we said we might end up staying in our car since finding accommodations on short notice this far out at 10pm would be challenging. She in turn asked us to keep her on call if we couldn’t find anything. Soon after calling around without success, we reached back out to ask if she could provide guidance on where to go. Unfortunately, we were not accommodated elsewhere as there did not appear to be any vacancy all the way through to Bangor and she did not offer us another place onsite. In the text chain that followed, the owner offered to strip the sheets/remake the bed and allow us to stay at a discount. We declined and indicated that we were expecting a full refund. Her response then consisted of implying that what all of us collectively confirmed to be bed bugs were not, in fact, bed bugs since the staff serving the building for years had never seen them there before, further adding that “insects are insects.” Rather than engage further, we cut our anniversary trip short and drove home four hours through the night. It should also be mentioned that the room had a faint malodor similar to raw sewage when we arrived that mostly dissipated after running the bathroom fan and that beneath the bed had not been cleaned or swept likely all season. I hope that this pattern of procurement of real estate assets in Downeast as just another investment in a portfolio by out-of-state interests does not continue down this path of neglect as it will irreparably harm the charm of places like Lubec. We were refunded in the end.

Herring Cove Provincial Park, situated on Campobello Island in Atlantic Canada, offers a serene camping experience amidst lush tree canopies and the sounds of the highest tides in the world. The park features 88 campsites, including some with electric hookups, and various amenities such as playgrounds and a 9-hole golf course. Visitors can explore six different trails for relaxing hikes through ancient spruce trees and around a small pond.
Clean modern restrooms with hot water and paper towels. The showers are clean and include a curtained changing area. The park has a coin operated washer and dryer. Tent sights are roomy and shaded. RV sights available but are in open area (not shaded). Nice play area with water play for the kids.

We went with family and stayed at sites 25 & 26. There is power but no water or sewer at the actual sites. They were very private and treed. The bathrooms were clean. It's a short walk to a very beautiful beach. The campsite is walking distance to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. We highly recommend seeing it.

Nicely wooded sites at Herring point provincial park, in the electronically section. Nice walk to the beach. Water is too cold to swim but the kayaking was great. Lovely little island, went five nights and loved it. Nice hike to liberty point thé the light house is a fun visit.

Absolutely lovely beach. Camping area looks pleasant but I haven't stayed there myself. Rocks on the beach are A+, its a primarily handy beach. One of my favourite spots to stop when visiting the island.
Kathryn G — Google review
Clean showers! Clean bathrooms! A cheap laundry room! We did not book a site. We just showed up and they let us drive around and pick out our site. They let us check in early and check out late for free! We stayed at a non-electric site in the woods and it was great. Some of the electric sites are in a field, so make sure you check out where your site is gonna be. Some of the electric sites are in the woods too! We will definitely be back.

Peaceful laid back out of the way place. Bring golf clubs! Golf course is across the street and not busy. Trails from cg go to beach and to FDR's buildings.
Alice F — Google review
Flat sites but not very private. Facilities were clean and great showers. Easy access to the beach and I would recommend staying here again. But of bugs but nothing over the top. Playground was basic but enjoyable for my three and one year old.
Janelle B — Google review
Worth a visit. It pays to do your homework. Some sites have plenty of room and privacy; others are wide open. Not certain short trail to beautiful beach. Laundry facilities, albeit it one washer and dryer only. Nine-hole golf course is good value. Beautiful greens and interesting holes, but fairways hard and dusty in places. Bumpy entrance. Nearby Roosevelt cottage is worthwhile excursion, especially the free tour!

Mowry Beach Preserve in Florida offers a fine sandy beach, contrasting the pebble-filled beaches of the Maine Coast. The highlight is its powerful tides, among the strongest in the world. During low tide, the beach transforms into a mud flat where local clammers can be seen in action. This unique scene makes it an ideal spot for clamming or leisurely walks when the tide recedes.
Beautiful sunny day at this remote beach at low tide. Rock collecting, a beach picnic and watching local clammers at work. Amazing!

Great beach nice level walking area on the ocean, not standard wheelchair accessible but has handicap parking. Very clean but no trash cans for public use.

Rocky beach with some sand and dunes. Has a boardwalk trail that goes behind the dunes, some broken pieces of wood and questionable integrity, but otherwise enjoyable.
David S — Google review
Beautiful spot for clamming or a walk when the tide is out! We brought the puppy with us on memorial day weekend and at 1:30 we had the place to ourselves! Limited parking, no bathrooms, but a nice trail to the beach and a beautiful view of Campobello Island ! We even saw 2 eagles sitting on a rock. The place is very clean, please keep it that way!

Sandy, pebbly, little, quiet beach. Nice for a quick walk, shell collecting and the view and ambiance of the ocean scents, sounds, and sights.

Love how beaches are so different! We have sandy beaches in Florida, but love the rocks and pebbles on Mowry Beach. We were amazed to see trucks driving on the beach all the way up to the water! 😱 Great place to walk, explore and meander down the boardwalk which goes across the Preserve. 👍👏

The preserve offers diverse terrains, from meadows to high bluffs overlooking the ocean, making it an ideal destination for hikers of all ages.
This was my second stop on my trip....no disappointment here... trail is well kept and easy for all. Very peaceful environment. Will return for a closet look at all to offer.

Great place for nature lovers, lots of orchids in season as well as other wild flowers. Trail well taken care of and board walks in the wet sections
Eric H — Google review
The lot was empty so we stopped. It was cool, breezy, wet and foggy. We took the easy walk directly down to the cove. Limited visibility, we were all alone until we noticed a seal bobbing in the waves about 150 feet off shore. It was low tide so we were able to explore the shoreline a bit. It started to sprinkle and we headed back to the car. There are 2 other trails that we would have liked to check out but didn't have wet weather gear. It poured shortly after we returned to the car. A beautiful cove with some easy trails. Very nice even on a cool, breezy, wet and foggy day.

The Lubec Historical Society provides a comprehensive overview of the rich history of Lubec, going beyond its current status as a quaint fishing village. This museum effectively chronicles the town's evolution from its establishment to becoming a sardine factory town, and finally its present state. The exhibits consist of old photographs and artifacts that offer valuable insights into Lubec's past. The museum is well-organized and has a modern feel to it.
There is quite a history beyond today’s quaint fishing village named Lubec. This museum does a nice job chronicling Lubec’s fascinating history from its birth, to sardine factory town to its current state. You will find some old photos and relics on display. It is worth a visit and the museum has been set up well. It feels new. Staff are pleasant and knowledgeable.
Perks A — Google review
We visited here on our New England trip summer of 2023. Lubec was the Sardine Capital with 28 factories, several right on this property and a lot of what is shown is of that era. The lady that was the hostess was wonderful. So knowledgeable of all the history and all the exhibits. This was very helpful because we had no idea what we were viewing, and she was able to make it all come alive for us. They even had the original “company store” in the same condition as original. The building used to be at a different, though close, location and it was moved to its present location some years later. They had a terrific display showing all that move and how it was constructed. One display showed a scam/hoax from the 1800s that showed how one man was getting gold from sea water. Without her explanation, it would not have been as clear. All in all, a great visit.

Historical landmark
Old Sow Whirlpool, located in the Bay of Fundy near Deer Island, New Brunswick, is renowned as the largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere. This natural wonder emits deep, sow-like sounds and is best observed during flood tides from a specific vantage point on Deer Island. The phenomenon's activity peaks approximately 3 hours before or after the top or end of the flood tide.
Lovely spot - Old Sow is very cool. Beach area has lots of sea glass and interesting geology. We saw several seals enjoying Old Sow's currents.
Travis J — Google review
Unique. Went to the Canadian side and saw turbulence, even looked like a few whirlpool at times, not constant. Would love to take a boat to get closer if I'm ever back in the area. You could feel the chaos in the water looking at the area from the beacon.
Lidie G — Google review
Really cool experience! I came here from the Downeast Boat Charter Whale Watch in Lubec. The best time to come is during low tide. The pools were just getting started when we arrived, but we were still able to see many of the "pigglets". Apparently Old Sow got the name due to the sucking sound the whirlpool makes and reminded people of a pig. That's what the smaller ones are called pigglets! Old Sow is also the most geologically significant whirlpool in the east, and at it's deepest point, is over 400 feet deep. Crazy! The captain drove through the waters and you could tell how much he was being pulled to and fro by the whirlpools. The whirlpools, when very dramatic, may have as much as a six foot difference from the top of the bottom of the spiral as well. Highly recommend taking the boat charter I mentioned above to come check it out!
Ian P — Google review
It was very calm when I went but I got to see a little seal popping his head up a couple times 😍 beautiful view as well
Shannon B — Google review
You can take a charter from Eastport to see the world's largest whirlpool along with whales, dolphins, and a Canadian lighthouse across the boarder.
John M — Google review
Spent quite a few Sundays out here in personal boat with a few beers. Lots of small porpoise typically. Been through it twice when really cranking with a local harbor pilot in his personal boat. Can get about 100 foot across and about 6 - 10 inches deep when really gurgling. Watch out for driftwood and debris that will get caught in its swirling current.
Mortimer M — Google review
What a great experience! With a limit of six on the boat it felt like a private charter. My friend and I were joined by a family with two little girls who wanted to see a whale. Sadly none this trip but tons of other wildlife and they both (and all the adults) loved it. Caption Ralph was great and we had a blast.

Klondike Mountain is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding bay and landscape, making it a must-visit for nature lovers. The mountain's name has an intriguing backstory, dating back to 1897 when two con artists attempted to deceive investors with a gold extraction scheme from seawater. Today, adventurers can access Klondike Mountain via North Lubec Road, which leads to stunning vistas of Johnson Bay.
Beautiful scenery. The trail was a little difficult in some areas but well worthbit

This is a great trail! I would say it’s a moderate hike, as there are a few steeper sections with plenty of rocks and roots on the trail. Great hike if you’re bringing your dog or children! Short, well maintained, and fun to walk.
Kendall R — Google review
Beautiful spot. Amazing views from the summit after a quick hike. Then a great trail to a small beach. Awesome apple trees in the fall. A good chance you'll see eagles, possibly a deer. And a perfect spot to see a sunset and moonrise!
Sara M — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous little hike. It's more like a hill than a mountain, but it gives some beautiful views. If you're used to hiking, this is very short and easy. If you don't hike much, this could be moderate or difficult, mostly due to the terrain. There are some spots that are very rocky and/or steep, so be sure to watch your footing. For anyone inexperienced or know they have balance issues or ankles and knees that are prone to giving out, bring trekking poles or a walking stick. The history of the property was interesting as well and it's worth checking out the labeled trees through the property.

Incredible hike that in 6/10th of a mile packs everything that's great about Maine's landscape in tidy package. Beautiful heritage orchards (w/ delicious apples taboot), a modern switchbacking trail to the summit that had bountiful ripe huckleberry and blueberries. Not to mention two "peaks" and in sweeping views in all directions. The descending loop trail was rugged and interesting passing from spruce/fir back into the hardwoods and orchard fields. What a gem just minutes from downtown.
