Dim sum restaurant
Tai Tong Restaurant, located in the heritage shophouses of Chinatown, is a historic teahouse that serves traditional dim sum not only for breakfast but also for lunch and dinner. The restaurant maintains the dim sum tradition by employing elderly ladies to push trolleys loaded with various dishes around the tables. Customers eagerly crowd around the waitresses to pick up plates of shrimp dumplings and rice flour rolls filled with barbecued pork.
By chance we came across this Chinese dim sum shop just down the road from our hotel. We were told to come early to avoid the long queue, so we came at their opening hour at 6.30 am. The elderly staff manning the stations were outstanding. They were very friendly, courteous and advised us what to eat. The ambience was great with lots of hand made lanterns hanging overhead. The restaurant was clean, bright and airy. They still have the traditional push cart serving pastry and porridge. No wonder they kept on getting 5 stars ratings.

So I finally checked out one of the dim sum places in Penang that’s been all over social media. A lot of people seem to love it, so I figured I’d give it a try. Honestly? It was okay. The food was fine – everything was fresh and came out warm, but nothing really wowed me. Flavors were pretty standard, and there wasn’t anything that made it stand out from other dim sum places I’ve been to. Overall, it’s not bad
Lie S — Google review
Missing Tai Tong Dim Sum so much right now! We loved it so much that we ended up eating there five times in just seven days! 😂 Every dish was super fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The dim sum variety was amazing, and the cozy atmosphere made every meal feel special. Definitely a must-visit if you love dim sum!
Hae O — Google review
Visited the place on a Sunday morning before 9am. Got the queue number for 2 pax and waited about 10mins for our number to be called. The place felt nostalgic with lanterns hanging over the restaurant. Staff explained where to order for which type of food (bun, steam food, fried food, etc.). I wanted to try the egg tart but it was not available when the push cart passed by. The lady was kind to take my order and send the egg tart to me when it was ready. Really happy to have this kind of service in a traditional dim sum restaurant. ❤️ The egg tarts and fried yam were very nice. Will definitely come back again when I visit Penang in the future.

Visited one mid-morning in mid-September. It was crowded but only waited for less than 10mins for a table after grabbing a queue number from the staff in charge. After ordering a pot of Tie Guan Yin tea and receiving an empty order chit, I proceeded to the steamed dim sum section and picked my selections from the friendly auntie and she noted them down in my order chit (skipped the fried stuff from the push carts). Had the piping hot and lovely Siew Mai, Har Kao and Chives Dumplings along with the Chai Kueh. Service was friendly and efficient. Defo will revisit once I am back in George Town. 🙏😋😘

Well, I definitely had fun looking at their lanterns hung at the ceiling. Being the mid autumn festival, they are a seasonal decor and I would encourage you to visit due to their unique nature. As far as food is concerned, good but not great. The noodle was acceptable but the prawns seemed recently thawed and unfresh. The fried rice had good flavours but I didn't get the wok hei required. Kind of underwhelming due to that. The dim sum were fortunately better. However, their choices at 8.15 (they close at 9.30) were unexpected limited even though there was another hour before closing. The excuse given was it's too late for a new batch. The restaurant was pretty full at that time too. Strange concept which I disagreed with. You can always steam one or two portions. Also, some of their staffs appear stressed as our interaction bear evidence. They were curt and looked as of they were ready to scold. Fortunately, most of the others were friendly and responsive to our queries and requests. In short, I do see a lot of areas needing improvement at 8.15pm. All I can say is, don't come late. Which apparently 8.15 is.
Layar J — Google review
I went there around 12 noon, which is the peak hour, and there were lots of people waiting for tables. We waited about 10 minutes before getting a seat. If you want dim sum, you have to go to the counter and pick what you want, but we didn’t know that at first. The staff gave us an order sheet with many dishes besides dim sum. We tried to order a few dim sum items from the menu, but most were already sold out, so we just picked two dishes to eat quickly and left. The food was okay — not as good as other places, but still decent.
Jasmine N — Google review
Quick service and quick wait time. Dumplings are served on a cart so cannot choose exactly want exactly (cannot select off of menu seen online). Some other dishes (chee cheong) only had prawn available, dumplings were mostly seafood options which was a downside for us, flavours weren’t amazing but it was good.

Dim sum restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
Chinese restaurant
Fu Er Dai is a popular dim sum restaurant known for its exploding salted egg yolk custard bun, which is a must-try dish. The restaurant is always crowded, indicating its popularity. Customers can choose their table and then select from a variety of fresh dim sum dishes at the counter. The overall experience is enhanced by the pleasant ambiance and good service, including the refreshing sea breeze.
The name of the restaurant and dim sum didn't quite sync. Nonetheless, saw the number of good reviews and decided to try. There was a queue when we arrived. Fortunately, the queue moved quite fast and we got our table after a 20 mins wait. You then place your order for drinks and the fried carrot cake or fried noodles (the fried noodles were great). You can proceed to the dim sum counter with the order card that they gave. Simply inform the staff what you want, pick up your orders and pass them the card for recording. That's it! The food was generally pretty good. And try their iced white coffee too!!
Choon T — Google review
This is definitely one of the best dim sum spots in Penang! You can tell how popular it is from the crowd — both locals and tourists love it. The dim sum here is made with quality ingredients and comes in generous portions. Highly recommended!
TYL — Google review
Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Fu Er Dai is a dimsum restaurant which opens early in the morning at 6.30 and closes at 14.00, Monday to Sunday. It provides a good breakfast option for early risers. The crowd during weekdays in the morning was good. We were the first person there and only a few tables were occupied while we were there. Get your table, order your drink/tea, and get your own dimsum at the counter. It has good varieties to choose from. There are also bapau, fried options, and you can order cooked food like kuetiaw etc from the menu. Recommendation: salted egg pau. Warning: it drips when you bite. There are plenty of parking outside and it can get crowded during busy hours. The dimsums were delicious, good tea (we chose Chrysanthemum tea) with free refill (add tea/hot water), the staffs were friendly, sitting area was comfortable and cool although it only has natural ventilation (it was early but there were many big fans). The dimsum cost around 6.90-9.40, depends on the type. Tea is counted per person at 2.90. Total bill has 6% tax added.

On my first day in Penang, I came straight to Fu Er Dai for a meal. The restaurant was full of customers, and every dish I tried was delicious. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Before flying home, I even came back a second time to buy some food to take away — that’s how much I liked it! I especially loved their salted egg yolk custard — super tasty and addictive!
Jasmine N — Google review
Tried this popular dim sum place after hearing many good reviews, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The dim sum variety was decent, but most dishes were average in taste — only the char siew pau was worth mentioning. It gets very busy on weekend mornings, so do come early, preferably before 9am, to get a table. There are separate counters for steamed and fried dim sum, and you can also order fried noodles or beehoon from the staff. Overall, an okay experience, but the food quality could definitely be improved.
Doreen L — Google review
Went during lunch time 12pm and the crowd was manageable. There was a queue, but it moved relatively quickly. Dim sum was amazing! You could pick and choose alacarte. Though I would recommend to skip the hor fun. Just go for the dim sums and you’re good. Prices are not exactly cheap, but reasonable for some items.
Strawbccake — Google review
Good place for breakfast, nice environment but slightly hot with ventilation fan only. My wife and I been there for breakfast and the dim sum is average and slightly expensive. There are lots of staff but not much to serve you. You have to queue to order and take your own dim sum. Unless you order special made or fried item, If not, you will take some time only you can start to eat. Average experience. *Tips - Go there early to avoid long queue of people during peak hour.
Ivan C — Google review
I was so shocked that there's have employees who's fluent in Thai! (Probably Thai person lol) Foods so great! They gave advice about drinks, teas and more for your decision. Taste so good, queue were called with Chinese language though. (But in rest area, there were have a screen to show a current queue) Recommended! I like Dim sum the most. Well, with seafood, there's no fishy smells (my bf so sensitive on the smelly things and he didn't budge!).

Restaurant
Restoran Zim Sum in George Town, Malaysia is a bustling dim sum house offering an extensive selection of dishes for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. The restaurant prides itself on its traditional techniques and flavors, serving everything from juicy shrimp dumplings to fluffy pork buns. Frequented by both locals and tourists, it provides a vibrant atmosphere and a wide array of choices for an authentic dim sum experience.
Love the self service vibe, you don’t have pressure to finish quickly. Ordering is a breeze just point. Food taste is a bit in the sweeter side. The behoon and porridge portion was giant can be eaten for 4 people, so order accordingly.

Nearest Dim sum restaurant from my hotel and looking at the crowd seems like locals. Q was fast and service efficient. If you compare just on taste, I had better taste at other place in Penang but which is a bit far from my hotel. My fav place in JB near mount Austin also better. Price wise is really reasonable for such a big restaurant.
Adrick L — Google review
IMHO this restaurant serves the best selection of dim sum that is fresh & tasty and value for money. The stir fry menu is also very enticing. The taste is up to the Penang standard, portions are big & value for money. The sitting arrangements are spacious giving diners lots of room to have a peaceful enjoyable outing. For me, dim sum in Penang is Zim Sum anytime 👍 Please note that this is a 100% self service restaurant.
Samuel H — Google review
Come here for late lunch around 1pm so no crowd.. most of the famous dim sim almost sold out at this hour.. my parents love this restaurant. Big, clean and plenty of food selection. My mum mention the female toilets also clean and she love the door design. Bad part is the location super hard to find parking... it normal in Penang for looking for parking nextby there is a paid car park.
Sherry T — Google review
Service was abit rushed but it understandable. They spoke very less English. Or maybe the one who handled us. Food was good, plenty of options. Loved their tea choices. Def will recommend.
Suya N — Google review
Best bao I’ve ever had! The eggs tarts had a great delicate consistency. We were full nearly the entire day after this wonderful breakfast. Great atmosphere as well!
Rachel B — Google review
I visited here alone on a Wednesday before noon, and it wasn’t crowded, so I could enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace. Everything I tried was incredibly delicious, and I ended up eating a lot! The dim sum variety was impressive, and each dish was carefully prepared and full of flavor. The staff was friendly, and the traditional Chinese decor along with the lively atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit for dim sum lovers!
Yuji 2 — Google review
Food was mediocre. Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun - the soy sauce was too salty and not sweet enough. The sambal was unremarkable. You can add the soy sauce, sambal and fried onions yourself, so you can add as much as you like. Char siew pau - very moist filling, a lot of pork, but the taste was unremarkable. Mini big bak pau - strong ginger taste but overall taste 3/10. Egg tarts - the worst egg tarts I've ever eaten. Not much cream and no vanilla flavour. Very crumbly and buttery shell. Wu kok - edible. The same filling as the char siew pau. Xiao loong pau - is juicy but the taste is like a gyoza that I'm used to eating. Not the usual xiao loong pau taste that I've come to expect.

Dim sum restaurant
Yong Pin Restaurant @榕槟茶楼 is a must-visit for dim sum lovers in Penang. They offer an extensive selection of traditional and unique dim sum items, including siu mai, lotus leaf-wrapped rice, spare ribs, fish balls, and lor mai kai.
The only restaurant we visited twice during the recent Penang trip. Most dishes were exceptional or worst case good. Tried many dim sums mostly steamed ones. Ambience was also very old school like. The setup where customers go to the central stalls to pick and choose dim sum seems very efficient. You can see all available dim sums in one place without having to hunt for carts like in other Hong Kong style dim sum restaurants. If they maintain standard, this will be my go to place next time
P L — Google review
This is a well established dim sum restaurant in Penang. You can expect to find traditional dim sum. The price is slightly on the higher end but in return for quality food. It gets busy so either be early or be prepared to wait for a table.
Hooi N — Google review
A dim sum house that takes you right back in time. It looks like one of those old Hong Kong coffeeshop. It’s self-service. You go to the steamer section to get whatever your little heart desires. The dim sum itself was delicious, and they had these lychee-looking dim sums and mock shark fin soup. The desserts were marvellous. They had things you don't commonly find, like osmanthus jelly and peanut mochi wrapped in pandan leaves. It was pure bliss sipping tea while nibbling on these petite sweets after the savoury stuff. Good selection of mooncakes as well and got ourselves some while we were there.
Yeong — Google review
We went on a public holiday. As expected, restaurant was full of customers (and many tourists). Luckily they had a queue system. Thus our wait wasn't long. Four of us. Lots on the menu to choose from. We have to leave some for another visit! After some "effort", we selected 11 dishes. Disappointed by the custard egg bun which was sold out. We were not disappointed with our choice of bacon mai, braised chicken feet, siu mai, steamed fish ball, taro dumpling, fried stuff chilli, char siew pau, shrimp rice roll, tofu skin shrimp roll, shrimp siu mai, steamed pork rib. All very good! Our favourite was char siu pau & taro dumpling. Prices though have increased since my last visit were still at competitive levels. Not forgetting. The restaurant is among the exceptions that keeps her toilet clean & tidy. Tq. Street parking is a challenge in down town area. And wheelchair friendly is very difficult as the shop is crowded. But you can be assured of having found one of the best dim sum restaurants in Georgetown!

A friend who I met in London was kind enough to meet me for breakfast and take me on a tour of the heritage area. We used to belong to a food review group in London and it was great to be able to pick her foodie brain We met for breakfast at Yong Pin. Even at 7.45am, we had to take a ticket for a table but we only waited for about 10 minutes. It’s great to be able to go and see all the dim sum available and they even had some yong tau foo and pastel de nata (Portuguese egg custard tarts). We ordered a varied feast and it was a good start to the day
Yee O — Google review
Was walking around the hotel and chance upon this dim sum restaurant. It sits next to just another dim sum eatery but was attracted to this one by its decor. Was alone and ordered my favorites and the yong tau foo ladies fingers and eggplant were really good. The ladies finger were supple while the fish filling juicy and tender. The char siew bao was ok, would have preferred if the ratio of fatty pork is higher. The char siew su (pastry) and egg tart was a little underwhelming. Overall I think for dim sum it delivered good value!

Maxim Dim Sum Pekaka is a renowned dim sum restaurant located in the southern part of Penang island. It has gained a strong reputation for its wide variety of delicious dim sum offerings. The restaurant is known for using metal dim sum baskets instead of the traditional bamboo ones, and it's not uncommon to wait in line for 30-45 minutes on weekends due to its popularity.

Visited last week on a weekday lunch. Somehow pretty quiet!!! Street parking available, surprisingly. Food is so so. The Hor Fun and Mee noodles fried were not great. The custard bun did not have the custard flow easily, more like normal filling. The porridge was acceptable. Same goes with the sui mai and fish balls. Overall, it's just a normal lunch for us. Price wise is competitive.
Moon W — Google review
This place is usually crowded but the waiting time is very short- I got table within 5 minutes on Monday morning . The staff would walk you to the table and explain how to take the dim sum as it js self service. They have variety of dim sum with good taste and reasonable price. My personal favourite was the fried radish cake and chee cheong fun.
Suganthi P — Google review
Had better dim sum around north-east of Penang island. Pls don't have high expectations. Normal tasting, not exactly value for money. Lots of tables & parking.
D. L — Google review
The worst dining experiences in Penang!! I came around 7.12am with 12 pax today (Sunday). The restaurant was only about 40% full with many empty tables, yet the staff pushed us to a cramped corner space that only fit 2 big tables. One table was already occupied, and the staff casually said the customer would “leave soon,” asking us to sit and wait there. If I hadn’t rejected it, our group of 12 would have been forced to squeeze into that space for breakfast. I asked to sit at the centre hall (completely empty at the time), but staff claimed it was “taken by a 15 pax group for 3 table, 6 pax for another table” and that it was “first come first serve.” In reality, I saw new walk-in customers immediately seated there with no reservation (7.19am). Another centre table was preset with plates (7.30am) and later occupied by just 6 pax (8am), not the so-called big group. Clearly, tables were being held for selected customers. This was misleading and dishonest. If you want to reserve for VIPs, put a sign. Don’t mislead paying customers by saying “first come first serve” when it clearly isn’t.
Carina Q — Google review
Slightly above average for dim sum ratings. Porridge and prawn chu cheong fun ok. Prawn dumpling is a bit dry when eat. Siu mai no surprise. Food level has dropped a bit from first it launch. Fried radish with prawns rm13.90. Quite good, it’s for 2 person portion but I think 3-5 persons also can eat. Found tht the price has been increased a bit compared to last year. Anyhow , service is fast and got robot serving ordered dish. Cha xiu bao is good RM2.8/ea. Worth trying .
Wong J — Google review
The food was delectable. It has become one of the prominent dim sum shop in Penang. Now it not only sells dim sum but variety choice of fried food and it is good for lunch. The service is commendable. However, it is so infuriating to see one of my favourite dim sum, radish cake was sticked with plastic. Please improve the food quality and hygiene.

When exploring the vibrant streets of George Town, a visit to Tho Yuen 桃園茶樓 is an absolute must for any food lover. Nestled in Chinatown near Chowrasta Bazaar, this iconic eatery has been delighting patrons for nearly a century with its authentic Cantonese breakfast and lunch offerings.
We tried three dishes and every single one was a hit: • King Prawn Crispy Noodles – perfectly crispy noodles topped with juicy king prawns, bathed in a smooth broth with a slightly gelatinous texture that’s full of flavor. The contrast between the crunch and the sauce is outstanding. • Fried Crispy Noodles – a simpler version but just as delicious, with fresh seafood and vegetables. • Stir-fried Rice Noodles & Vermicelli – wok-fried to perfection with that signature smoky “wok hei” aroma, flavorful and well-seasoned. We paired everything with an aromatic chrysanthemum tea, light and refreshing, perfect to balance the rich flavors. The staff were incredibly friendly, making the whole experience even better. The vibe is authentic and local – exactly where you want to be to taste real Penang flavors. They also serve famous dumplings in the morning, which we didn’t get to try but came highly recommended. An absolute must-visit for anyone wanting to eat like a local and enjoy dishes truly worth the trip.

Tho Yuen – one of those classic old-school Chinese restaurants that Penang folks have been visiting for generations. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a comforting dim sum breakfast with a pot of hot tea to start your day. Besides dim sum, they offer a variety of stir-fried noodle dishes, from Wat Tan Hor to Dry Hor Fun, and even fried rice. Every dish we tried was packed with wok hei—that signature smoky aroma you can only get from high-heat wok cooking. I was told that, back in the day, they used to place spittoons under the tables for customers to spit into—a common practice in old-style eateries. Thankfully, for hygiene reasons, that’s no longer the case. Otherwise, it might have driven people away in today's dining culture.

Tho Yuen is one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in Georgetown, and it shows with plenty of regulars and tourists alike. The menu is extensive, and the staff are used to serving foreign customers so ordering is straightforward. Prices are about average for the area. Food is just what you’d expect from a typical Chinese place in Georgetown, decent and consistent but nothing that really stood out for me.

My childhood restaurant. Used to be traditional Cantonese yum cha place but since 2023 when they first got Michelin award, this had become tourist place. Their food standard had dropped, not as tasty as last time. Their food price also been upgraded to Michelin standard. Their mooncake also priced at Michelin standard. When i back to Penang, i always eat here.

Probably one of the best sar hor fun you can find in Penang is at Tho Yuen Cantonese Restaurant. This iconic and humble eatery has stood the test of time, consistently serving some of the best classic Cantonese dishes. Prices are reasonable. The premises have since been upgraded with air conditioning, making dining more comfortable. Highly recommended for those yearning for the nostalgic flavors of Penang’s yesteryears.

Came here for the special Hong Tho noodle. Taste is good. The crab meat fried rice is awesome. Crab meat is fresh and the fried rice has "wok hei". Price may be higher but quality of food makes the visit worth. Need to come early if you want to taste their dim sum. Overall, it's Great experience and will surely visit again

It has been a few years since I went back to Tho Yuen. A local traditional Chinese restaurant serving dim sum (morning), noodles and dumplings that has been around for decades popular with many locals and families, including my grandparents from my mother’s side. In keeping with time, the restaurant has been freshened up but still has its old charm and look, with some improvements. It’s now air conditioned and it looks nice and clean. The food is still the same. Consistently good and taste the same as how I remembered each time I ate there. The price is very reasonable. There is no service charge and no. SST. All in for what we had came to RM$62. Sar hor fun (dry version), crispy noodle (medium), dumplings and fish balls, choy sum (medium), and pu-erh tea. I probably ordered too much for 2 of us 🤣😋.

Decided to try this place out one of the weekends and arrived after the dim sum was sold out. Hence we only had the noodles option which was in our option decent but not exciting, lacking that special flavour that brings out the wow. Still a nice place to try out, and will update my comments once I have tried out the dim sum offerings.

Dim Sum Station - Promenade at The Promenade in Bayan Baru offers a wide variety of both traditional and unique dim sum options. Visitors can enjoy classic dishes like xiu long bao and steamed glutinous rice, as well as more innovative choices such as xiu long bao filled with big fat prawns.
Came with my grandparent on a Tues afternoon for lunch and there was plenty of seating options. Was most impressed with how disabled and elderly friendly the establishment was - 2 ramps leading from the road to the main door and prioritised seating near the door for easy mobility. All the staff was friendly with their suggestions and offered to help when needed.👏🏻Incredibly grateful! All the dishes were amazing and really fresh. The little steaming corner on each of the table made sure the food remains warm throughout our meal. We especially loved the fried beancurd skin with prawn, siew mai and prawn dumpling.

Been here thrice. I found that sound some food tasted good and some were so-so. Depends on one’s taste buds. Some food portions good enough to feed 2 or 3 people but the ingredients not enough for the price we paid. Like recently I tried the Ee Fu noodles (RM25.80) portion was big but it had only 2 prawns & the slimy sauce. Shanghai Meat dumplings were not fresh. Disappointed. Staffs have language barriers but good service though. Deserts was on the house☺️

Relaxing, pleasant with upmarket decor and practical fittings such as steamer on dining tables to keep food warm. Well presented food. Recommended dim sums such as Garlic Chives Siew Mai, Fake Shark Fin Dumplings, Steamed XO Sauce dumplings, Dried Scallop Siew Mai, classic Siew Mai. The Shrimp Chee Cheong Fun is delicious and does not stinge on shrimp. The Dry Shrimp Wan Ton Noodles is scrumptious and worth the price! If you're into healthy herbal jelly, the cutely appealing terrapin shaped Osmanthus Herbal Jelly will win you over. Also try the slightly sweeter compared to herbal jelly called Osmanthus Jelly that is round shaped and topped with wolf berries. These jellies make a healthy conclusion to any meal.

Picture didn’t do justice. This place shocked me with their portion and umami’s. The Steam Prawn Chee Cheong Fun comes with pure chili shrimp paste, that’s something the whole industry is missing. The portion of the shrimp is like throwing a shrimp party, soft, succulent and juicy Chee Cheong Fun that glides to your tummy. This is already a 5/5 as a starter. Deep fried been-curd skin with prawn, crispy on the outside, moist and juicy in the inside, what can I expect more, how did they do it? Usually this crispy fritters are all dried up due to uncontrollable heat on the deep fryer. How can this be ??? I believe this is made to order, not those deep fried and displayed on the heated food display. Goodbye to Kampung Koh official Dim Sum chilli condiment, this Bao Zhan homemade chili dip is beyond another level, those who know Kampung Koh would want it to attest to how many fakes Kampung Koh out there, nevertheless, this condiment pairs their food exceptionally perfectly. 8.5/10 I will come again, next time, I will bring more friends as I did not finish this serving, portion too big. There are more in the list that intrique me.

I came here to eat during my last vacation last week because of all the hype in the social media. The food only tasted average. The pau was too soft to be good. The ginseng Chinese tea has no taste of ginseng at all. The fried noodles tasted very weird. I'm wondering what sauce the chef used to fry. Well I have nothing good to comment. Anyway if you are a tourist in Penang don't bother to eat here. If you have accidentally come here like me, do order their black jelly which comes in the shape of a tortoise. Very cute one. Boiled groundnut and wet tissues were served and charged without the customer requesting. Not recommended dim sum place.

A bit pricy BUT you will truly enjoyed authentic quality dim sum. Good fillings and quality ingrediants used. Truly enjoyed every bite for all my orders. Will visit again for different orders.

A fantastic spot for cook-to-order dim sum and noodles—all incredibly tasty. Each table features a custom-designed steamer, allowing you to enjoy warm dim sum at your own pace. Here, you simply order from the online menu, it’s a refreshing change from the usual queue-and-pick dim sum stations you still find in many Penang restaurants. I especially love their Wat Tan Hor—highly recommended!

Overall food have mix rating. Some are really good, like the chee cheong fun, wok fried carrot cake. But some could be better, such as fried rice must use overnight rice else will be sticky, the steam items such as prawn dumpling might have been over steamed that it became sticky. Anyway, taste is ok. Service could have been much better, bcos with 3 workers only attending at dinner, no one is giving full attention. Environment can be quite noisy. For the price I'm paying, I expect much more from this place.

Some of the must-try dishes include Premium Prawn Broth Noodle, Penang Nyonya Curry Mee, Shanghai Chicken Broth Dumplings, and Tom Yum Mai.
One of my favourite eateries when I want a treat. You can order from Grab too but the menu is a bit limited there so the best thing is to come here yourself 😁 Food is always a delight. I love how the tables are not packed close together so you can have private conversations easily. Also makes it feel more comfortable too! Never had to wait long for our food and it's always served hot. Haven't really tastes the whole menu as I already have my favourites here but am pretty sure they should taste just as delicious 🤤

I really loveeee dumplings. I use to go to Ipoh branch. Its a must place to go every time i go to Ipoh. Im sooo glad that they opened one here at Penang. The vibes was totally different. Here are more calm and tidy. Everything must be ordered by qr and not serve hot same as Ipoh one. Maybe different place different concept. Here more too industrial area. My always favourite food was their fried carrot cake. But unfortunately the taste was not that Good. It was super dried and taste less. And here also they dont serve the black sauce for the dumplings. Only got chili sauce. But i still love their dumplings. Will come again and again. Hehehe

Everything was sooooo good. The employee there is not one of the best, tapi can be covered with the good comfort foods. Ipoh wantan mee sedap. Cheong fun udang pun lightly seasoned so sedapppp. Add on homemade sambal for more bursting flavors. Sesame ball with pandan tau young, memang terbaik. Used to make that a lot while in Sabah but not anymore, then boleh makan kat sini je. Crunchy di luar, mochi gooey di dalam. Even the fried items macam lobak pun sedappppp. Cheese balls tu favorite anak2. Salted egg buns tu sangat sedap, sampai membungkus another 10pcs. Go, must try. Will repeat, for sure.

The food is not as good as expected, based on other reviews, but the staff are friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for a traditional dim sum experience, this may not be for you. The food is a bit oily, and despite there being only 2-3 occupied tables, our order took a very long time to be served. Just my two cents.

Tried out this Dim Sum restaurant with my friends the other day. It is a halal-style dim sum place. I ordered their recommended fried crispy noodles, taste-wise it was okay, slightly above average but nothing too special. Also tried some of their dim sum, and honestly it tasted quite average. Overall, it’s a decent spot if you’re specifically looking for halal dim sum, but if you’re after the best dim sum experience, this might not be it.

Nyonya restaurant
Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay, located in Georgetown, Penang, is a renowned Nyonya kuih factory that produces an extensive variety of kuih. With over 20 different types available, including classics like Nasi Ulam and Laksa, this establishment offers a delightful culinary experience. The menu also features Kueh Pie Tee or Koay Pai Ti, a popular Peranakan snack served with popiah.
Here’s a detailed review of Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih & Canteen in Penang. • Established in 1933, Moh Teng Pheow is one of Penang’s heritage spots for Nyonya kuih (Peranakan sweet/snack cakes). • Located off Lebuh Chulia / Jalan Masjid in George Town. It has a factory + shop + eatery setup: you often go through the kitchen/factory area into the dining space. • They also have a canteen (“eat-in”) beside just selling kuih to-go. ⸻ 👍 Good for: 1. Authenticity & heritage The place is praised for preserving traditional methods (steaming by hand, etc.) and maintaining flavours of old Penang. 2. Wide variety of kuih Over 20 types of kuih, both very familiar ones (kuih talam, angku kuih, seri muka) and more unique ones (rempah udang, bengka ubi, pulut tai tai etc.) 3. Taste and craftsmanship Many reviews say the kuih are flavourful, well-textured, fragrant. Some standouts: Bengka Ubi, Pulut Tai Tai with kaya, Seri Muka. 4. Ambience / nostalgic charm The décor is rustic / vintage, you can see the production process, it has that “stepping into history” feel. 5. Recognition The place got a Bib Gourmand in the 2023 Michelin Guide (KL & Penang list) — good sign that it’s well-regarded. 6. Affordable snacks Individual kuih pieces are generally cheap — you can try a few without breaking budget. For improvement: 1. Sweetness Some kuih are judged overly sweet. If you don’t have a big sweet tooth, you may find some too saccharine. 2. Portion / size Reviewers mention pieces are small (which is typical for kuih) so you might need to order several to feel satisfied. 3. Pricing While many find it good value for what you get, especially heritage & craftsmanship, some feel prices are a bit high for what small snack portions are. 4. Crowds / popularity It can get busy, especially mid-day— you might have to wait, and seating can be less comfortable during busy times. 5. Heat / ventilation Because part of it is a kitchen/factory eatery, some areas can get hot, especially during busy hours or with low airflow. 6. Visible location & signage It’s somewhat tucked away; signboard is faded / less conspicuous, so it might be easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully. Overall, if you’re in George Town and like trying local Peranakan snacks, Moh Teng Pheow is worth visiting. It offers a strong blend of heritage, flavour, atmosphere. It’s more than just snacking—it’s an experience. Here are some tips to make the most of it: • Go early (just after opening ~10:30 am) to get full variety, cooler temperatures, and avoid crowds. • Try a selection: get a few sweet kuih, maybe something savoury (they also do nasi ulam, laksa etc.) to vary flavour. • Bring cash (if possible) in small denominations — easy to pick up pieces. • Bring patience — could be queues, and service is efficient but not overly elaborate. • If you don’t like very sweet things, ask or choose ones noted for being less sugary (e.g. some pulut kuih). If you like, I can pull up a “top 3 must-try items” from Moh Teng Pheow, and how they compare to similar places in Penang — would that help?
Share S — Google review
How do you make a very traditional food appeal to today’s generation? Well, one route is to make it Instagram friendly It’s great to visit this multi-generational business as you firstly walk through the ‘factory’ and you can see the kuih being made. Then to the products themselves arranged in colourful displays before offering a beautiful traditional interior cafe for eating photography For me, I gave the food 4 stars because the ubi bingka cake was burnt on one side though overall still pleasant to eat
Yee O — Google review
This place looks rather ordinary from the outside but inside is a hive of activity. It's been famous for a while for all it's koays/kuehs and some other food items, with many walk-in customers either dining in or just getting their items to go. As you enter, you'll see the workers preparing all the ingredients & kuehs. My biggest personal peeve is that none of the workers wear hairnets or masks when they prepare these food stuffs from start to finish. Plus most of them are long-haired, they talk, gossip, laugh, as they are doing their work. The OCD-ness in me shivers with dread. Other than that, some of the koays are moderate to okay, some tastes excellent. The Bak Chang is not really 'bak' but Chicken meat, but done very well with generous condiments and fillings - absolutely approve the taste overall. The curry chicken for the roti jala was good too - roti jala made thin and not yucky thick like some places. Nasi ulam was our personal favourite. Kuih talam was a miss, too sweet and there was no slight saltiness from the santan. Surprisingly, the seri muka was a good balance of taste. Kuih kochi santan was really good as the filling was satisfyingly rich.

Went to this place on the recommendation of a friend who had been there before. From the outside, it doesn't look like a restaurant or a shop, and when you enter, it doesn't feel like a restaurant or a shop either. The place is not neatly arranged and tends to be a bit shabby. We passed through the open cake-making room, and we were able to chat with the cake maker. Inside, after passing the cake-making room, is the food and drink area. Authentic, old-fashioned, and very Penang. At first glance, the menu looks very cheap, but when the cakes arrive, they are very small, and they are delicious enjoyed with coffee. Besides cakes, there are many other main dishes. It was a new experience visiting Nyonya Kuih.
Jeffry T — Google review
This restaurant is famous for its Nyonya food and pastries in Georgetown, Penang. The overall taste was good. There weren’t many types of kuih (pastries) left near closing time, so we’ll come back earlier next time.
Darius L — Google review
Food is definitely nyonya style and taste wise is absolutely delicious, however in small bites. Fully air conditioned- LOVE it. The place also provides a second floor in case it gets too crowded on the ground floor. Overall, will definitely bring friends and family over to try Penang nyonya food. A must try place indeed. Fair warning- waitress was superbly quiet, Sha passed the menu, u just need to tick the order on a piece of paper. But otherwise all is well.
Richard B — Google review
Nice authentic varieties of nyonya kuih . Portion was small but the price is reasonable. Pei Tee freshly made. Nasi kerabu was good. Lok Bak taste superb delicious. Cucur udang so so only. Staffs r friendly. Nostalgia atmosphere.
Michael W — Google review
Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay is a charming, old-school eatery in Penang that offers an authentic taste of Nyonya kuih in a delightfully rustic setting. Stepping inside feels like a journey back in time, with its vintage decor and traditional atmosphere. One unique aspect of the dining experience is walking through the kitchen to reach the seating area, where you can catch a glimpse of the kuih-making process. It’s clear that everything is prepared fresh daily, which adds to the appeal. The kuih selection is excellent—each piece is soft, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Roti Jala (net pancakes) is another standout, perfectly light and paired well with curry. That said, don’t expect much personalized service here. The place is popular among both locals and tourists, so it’s often bustling with people coming and going. The staff are efficient but mostly focused on keeping up with demand rather than providing attentive service. Overall, Moh Teng Pheow is a must-visit for anyone craving traditional Nyonya kuih in an authentic, no-frills environment. Just be prepared for a casual, self-service experience amid the crowds. Great food and atmosphere, but service is minimal due to high traffic.

Sea Queen Restaurant is a top-notch Chinese dining spot located in Straits Quay, Penang. It's a popular choice for special occasions and events due to its high-end ambiance. The restaurant offers above-average food at an affordable price point, making it a pleasant surprise for many diners. With ample parking available at Straits Quay, it's convenient for visitors. The VIP room can comfortably accommodate large groups of up to 18 people, providing an exclusive dining experience.
Had a pleasant dinner here with penang friend and family. Portions are generous. Not a fan of pork but the pork slices with the 4 seasons platter was lean and well seasoned.
Carolyn C — Google review
This was, unfortunately, one of the worst Chinese restaurants I’ve ever been to. The service was a major letdown—the staff seemed unfamiliar with the menu and couldn’t provide proper recommendations when we asked for popular dishes. This lack of knowledge left us feeling frustrated and unimpressed from the start. The portions were small, and the taste of every dish we tried was flat and unappealing.
Daniel O — Google review
Went there 3 times (dim sum and dinner) and we have concluded that whilst this place does not serve the best food in terms of taste, it still offers some value in terms of pricing, quantity and location (nearby our place with ease of parking). The food is more or less above average in terms of taste - some could be improved further whilst some are good. Portions are on the larger side and prices are reasonable too. The restaurant is big, spacious and offers a number of private rooms.
Yong G — Google review
I personally wasn't expecting this but I was quite impressed and enjoyed my dinner throughly. Ate in their vip room with a large group of people. Apparently their huge table can accommodate 18 diners comfortably. It's in Straits quay so parking was plentiful. The food was generally delicious. The 3 standout dishes were the prawn on bread, tofu and pork ribs. I found the bread and prawn combination delightful. Simple but tasty delicious. The tofu meanwhile had a nice texture with great tasting gravy. The pork ribs could've been a tad bit more tender, I like ribs with meat that falls off the bones, but I can't fault the seasoning. Excellent choice to order here. I found the veggie curry superbly cooked even though it has a crazy level of oil at its surface, you just need to dig into the lower level for the actual curry but the vegetables were cooked really well. And the pork slices, taugeh and soup were expectedly tasty. Not groundbreaking good but better than average. The bitter gourd egg and tua pan were only so so. Below my expectation. Average but should be better. I was a little disappointed with the fish though. The meat was strangely hard, either freshness or oversteamed issue, while the taste of the sauce wasn't balanced enough for me. Meanwhile the dessert was enjoyable. I found the Chinese pancake with red bean filling crunchy, hot from the oven and delicious. The fried cempedak was enjoyable if you eat it before it cools and the longan sea coconut pretty average. All in all, a nice place for a group dinner. I would come again

Nestled in charming Straits Quay, this restaurant is the perfect place to host your special gathering. If you need a private space for 20 to 30 guests, the intimate VIP rooms offer an ideal setting for a personalized celebration. Equipped with a karaoke system and boasting superior acoustics, karaoke enthusiasts will find their voices sounding their best in this room. The place offers attractive packages at budget-friendly prices, making it easy to plan your perfect event. The menu features familiar, comforting dishes that everyone will enjoy. While the cuisine may not offer the most refined flavours, it’s prepared with care – perfect for fuelling the night with fun and camaraderie. Overall, if you’re looking for a lively spot to gather with the right company for a good night out, this place has everything you need.

A Chinese cuisine restaurant that is located at the far end corner of Straits quay mall Penang. There are outdoor and indoor sitting areas, whereby outdoor area can enjoy seaview. The food quality is good and value for money. A table of 14 pax, with the order of 9 dishes, cost rm 460. The salted eggs prawns, grill chicken, mixed vegetables with curry are some of our favourite dishes. Besides, this restaurant also serving dim sum. Dim Sum Station City Junction is a new and clean restaurant that offers authentic Hong Kong dim sum. The char siu pau and chee cheong fun are highly recommended, with fluffy and light dough for the pau and silky smooth texture for the chee cheong fun. Each table has its own steamer to keep the food warm, although it may not make much of a difference.
The food here is delicious and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I especially enjoyed the shumai — it’s my favorite! This place is a great option for breakfast if you’re craving something warm and satisfying. Highly recommended for anyone who loves dim sum.

Tried Dim Sum Station at City Junction Mall. The place is spacious and bright, which makes for a comfortable dining experience. Service was okay, nothing special but not bad either. They offer a good variety on the menu overall, but if you’re coming specifically for dim sum, the selection is actually quite limited. Prices are moderate and the utensils were clean enough. One small downside is that they don’t provide regular tissues, only chargeable wet tissues, which feels a bit unnecessary. Located inside City Junction Mall, which unfortunately feels rather quiet and underutilized, so don’t expect much crowd or buzz. Still, if you’re nearby and looking for a casual dim sum spot, it’s decent for a quick meal.

If you are in Penang and looking for an authentic yet modern dim sum experience, Dim Sum Station City Junction is a must-visit! The location is convenient inside City Junction, and the restaurant is clean, bright, and very comfortable. The menu is full of variety—from classic dumplings, buns, and siu mai to noodles and seasonal specialties. Every dish I tried was fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable (RM20–40), which makes it perfect for both families and groups of friends. What impressed me most was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and always ready to explain the dishes or recommend something new. Even though the restaurant was busy, the food came out quickly and with a smile. I also loved how the atmosphere felt welcoming for both locals and tourists. Whether you want a hearty breakfast, a casual lunch, or just to enjoy authentic dim sum with good company, this place will not disappoint. I even ordered some extra items to take away, and they were just as delicious later. Dim Sum Station City Junction is now one of my favorite spots in Penang for comfort food. Dim sum restaurant
Lhong Tou Dim Sum is a popular restaurant in Penang known for its delicious and freshly prepared dim sum. The extensive variety of dim sum options may lead to longer wait times, but the prawn dim sums are particularly outstanding. In addition to traditional ingredients, they offer unique items like siu mai with scallop and unagi. The portions are larger than usual, so it's advisable to start with half the usual amount and add more as needed.
I invariably choose this dim sum venue during my visits to Penang, and for good reason. The offerings are of exceptionally high quality 👍. The recent renovation and expansion into the neighboring space have enhanced the overall experience, providing a more spacious, air-conditioned, and inviting atmosphere. The staff are remarkable for their attentiveness and warmth, making them a significant asset to the establishment. The food, which remains consistently excellent, is a major draw. The generous servings of fresh prawns are especially impressive. Third time here, their food has never let me down. Strongly recommended and will always return.

Tried Lhong Tou Dim Sum in Penang for the first time and really liked the flavor! The shrimp was fresh and juicy, and the dim sum portions were bigger than usual — very satisfying. The chicken feet was a little bit spicy for me, but still tasty. The wu gok (fried taro dumpling) was really nice — crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. Service was quick, staff were attentive, and the whole experience was enjoyable. I’d love to come back and try more dishes next time!

Ate dozens of yam cha and dim sum around the globe and this place is legit. Flavours are local and slightly different from HK, China or some china town places in Europe but nonetheless tasty. Overall not too salty and they use fresh ingredients. Place is well air conditioned as well. Recommended.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super delicious dim sum in Penang! Every dish was flavorful with generous portions of fresh, crunchy shrimp. The size of dim sum are bigger than normal dimsum. Staff were very responsive and service was fast. We wanted to try more, but since it was just the two of us, we only managed to order 5 dishes. Definitely coming back for more!

Saw a bunch of positive reviews about this dim sum place, so I decided to give it a try..... Later I realized many of those good comments might be because people got free tarts for posting reviews. The dim sum itself is just ok.. portion and taste are fine, but nothing tat impressive.. Wat really shocked me was the price.. It’s almost double compared to other dim sum places, even more expensive than some of the famous spots in KL or hotel dimsum restaurant... Honestly, the quality doesn’t match what they’re charging. The environment and staff service are ok... but overall, it’s not worth it for me. I’d rather go somewhere else next time, this place is just too pricey..

Tried this dim sum place in Penang over the weekend. Food was decent and served hot, with a good variety to choose from. Some dishes stood out more than others, but overall it’s a nice spot for a casual breakfast👍🏻

Wish I cud order more, yet I travelled alone. The dimsum is so fresh. I recommended Abalone Siew Mai. Its the signature dish. The soup tastes gentle, but so genuine. Veggie Choy is super fresh. Staff is taking care of me very well. Know that im foreigner.

The service was great! All staff were very attentive and quick to assist. The carrot cake was a bit too oily for my taste, but the egg tarts are good! The Chee Cheong Fun and Siew Mai were also really good :)

Gia Xiang Steamboat Restaurant, a relatively new addition to the culinary scene, is part of a family of eateries that includes the well-known Restoran Zim Sum and The Steamboat Restaurant. Nestled in Penang, this hotpot haven offers an inviting atmosphere with air conditioning and clean facilities. Diners can indulge in a variety of options from their extensive menu, which features enticing choices like fish pot, duck, and pork ribs.
My favourite Chinese restaurant in Penang, with incredible freshly cooked food with so much flavour and very good service.

It's a Chinese Mala hot pot restaurant with many variety of options, including fish pot, duck, pork ribs, and more. The environment is well-maintained, and the service is excellent. This is my fourth visit in 2025, and I’m sure there will be many more to come!

It is a very nice hotpot restaurant. The restaurant is air-conditioned and the atmosphere is pleasant. The menu contains a lot of information in Chinese but the staff members do their best to help you. We chose a mixed hotpot. The spicy part was really too spicy for us (see pictures). Anyway, we ate very well and had a great evening.

Nestled in the heart of Penang's lively George Town, JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La offers a vibrant 4-star experience with its warm and inviting accommodations. The hotel's prime location provides easy access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and nearby commercial, business, and shopping areas.
Smooth check in process. We picked a room without bathtub and got assigned to a room next to the elevators. The noise was not as bad as I anticipated but still you could hear people walking and talking in the corridor. Room is spacious and clean at first sight. Loved the wooden floor. Equipped with a hairdryer, a mini-fridge and an electric kettle. Other amenities include slippers and 2 bottled waters daily. Charging ports available on both sides of the bed. 2 types of pillows provided one softer than the other. Air-conditioning was well-functioned. However, water from shower is quite weak. The TV quality was also not up to standard. I felt like I was watching shows in 480p. Location is good as supermarket is found nearby, along with many other restaurants. Hotel lobby features live music every night.

I had such a great experience staying at this hotel. Throughout my stay, the staff were consistently kind and helpful without being overbearing. One night I came back to my room to find a handwritten note, a lovely heart-shape swan towel, and a small pouch with hand sanitzer and face mask — just a simple thank-you for staying. Totally unexpected, and such a thoughtful touch. Overall, the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and in a great location, but what really made it special was the way the team went out of their way to make sure I felt taken care of. I’d absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates great service with a personal touch.

A Pleasant Stay at JEN Penang – Comfortable and Well-Appointed I recently enjoyed a most comfortable stay at JEN Penang, where we were accommodated on the Club Floor with access to both breakfast and evening cocktails. Overall, it was a most agreeable experience, combining convenience, comfort, and a thoughtful range of amenities. The Club Lounge offered an inviting and relaxed environment in which to unwind. The evening cocktail service was particularly commendable — the food selection was both varied and of excellent quality, featuring a delightful mix of Western dishes and Asian hawker-style favourites, with a different selection presented each evening. It was clear that care and creativity went into the preparation, which made each visit to the lounge a pleasure. I must also commend the older gentleman on the team, whose professionalism and warmth stood out throughout our stay. He delivered service with genuine attentiveness to all guests, regardless of background or ethnicity, and exemplified the courteous spirit that truly defines good hospitality. A small observation, however, concerns one of the young ladies on staff during the evening cocktail hours. She appeared to show particular favour towards a certain/especially couple seated by the window ( meeting room area ) whose demeanour towards other guests was, regrettably, less than gracious. While this made no difference to our own experience, it might be worth noting to ensure that all guests continue to receive the consistently excellent service for which JEN Penang is otherwise well regarded. That said, our stay was most enjoyable overall. The property is well-situated, the facilities are well-maintained, and the general standard of service was both efficient and warm. In every respect, JEN Penang remains a fine choice for a comfortable and satisfying stay in the heart of George Town.

I get a good price thats worth the stay. Its located beside a mall and near to komtar & the ONE penang building. Its clean and spacious with very complete amneties. Although the lobby staff asked both our ID when checking in which was quite not common. This hotel is kid friendly and very strategic in pretty popular area, so the concern will be to book the ride hailing during weekend

Allows easy access to yummy food places and it has a shopping centre right beside the hotel. Best service tool was they have a Whatsapp chat for Reception. The team helped us with alot of queries and also helped linked us up for car rental. The bed was comfortable and the toilet water pressure was good! It also provided shampoo, conditioner and body shower. Will def stay here again.

Location is good as is near to all the Hot-spot area of Georgetown, all within 10-15min walks. But the price charge and facilities of hotel is not up to standard, more like a 2-3 stars hotel with 5 stars charges. Family room is small and Squeezy after the set up of sofa bed, toilet is small for the room type choosen. Stated high floor with city view but ended up with a low floor with backyard view, feeling cheated choosen the room type due to description stated, and willing to pay rm500+/night because of this, ended up.....Not a kid's friendly hotel as no facilities for kids at all, not even a child play room

The Granite Luxury Hotel offers a relaxed all-suite experience with polished units and complimentary parking. It's a great spot to unwind and connect with nature, offering sunlit strolls and scenic views at Chew Jetty. The hotel also provides an opportunity to explore the charm of Penang, from its heritage sites like the Peranakan Mansion to local cafes and hidden gems.
This hotel is conveniently located , well priced , clean spacious rooms with friendly and accommodating staff . The bell boy on our first day arrival 18sep , showed great hospitality ( unfortunately we didn’t get his name ) , he went his way to get us ice bucket a few times to fit our sake bottle the very evening. Kudos :) Automated parking was very impressive . Efficient , space saving and well functioned . The rotating mechanism that could turn our car front facing at retrieval, I was much amazed each time , in the 5 days we stayed at the hotel . The staff navigating n helping me point to park were all very nice and helpful . I chanced on Iman a few times , always smiling and showed great care the few times I was parking . Very helpful and made my parking experience nice and at ease . Kudos :) Vinesh , whom I spoke on the night I parked , showed maturity and good professionalism . Lastly , this hotel has a nice rooftop bar , on the other wing . The only setback , we only knew that there’s a 20% discount for hotel guest on the 2nd visit . We were not told at check in or at the pub proactively . There could be more info on this as we think the roof top bar is actually nice and relaxing if more marketing and communication was done . Overall , we definitely recommend this hotel in Penang . Thank you .

The hospitality i received from this hotel is top notch. 5 star service, to begin with. The helpful front faces staff, the bell boy, the guards, the housekeeper. During the stay Mr Ady really helped me alot. From check in until check out. Mr margan the staff that handle during automated parking. The room i booked was splendour suite is clean, comfortable and spacious. The only problem is just the lift few times cannot functioned well, however the staff fix it very fast. while they fix it the staff always came in handy. Checked on us. One more thing, i would like to extend half day of my stay however the rooms are fully booked. How generous they are, they let me use the resting suite for free while till im done. Overall, imma satisfied customer and would definitely repeat this hotel again. As it also at the centre oh the city.

The service really stood out — the staff at check-in and check-out were incredibly welcoming and efficient, making everything smooth and easy. Special thanks to Mr. Hong, Mr. Adi and Mr. Maran! The room was spotless and very comfortable, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The rooftop bar was a highlight, with stunning views, and attentive service. The pool area was also amazing — relaxing, clean, and beautifully maintained. Overall, an excellent experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!

Compliment for the Front Office Team – Granite Luxury Hotel We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the incredible Front Office team at Granite Luxury for making our stay truly memorable. From the moment we arrived, Arol and Devan greeted us with genuine warmth and professionalism, making the check-in process smooth and welcoming. Their attention to detail and thoughtful hospitality set the tone for our entire visit. What touched us most was the delightful surprise they arranged — a beautiful cake to celebrate our toddler’s birthday! It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture that made the occasion even more special and showed how much they truly care about their guests. A special mention also goes to Ika, who took the time to personally visit us at our Safari Suite. Restoran Lip Sin Red Tea House is a popular spot for a quick and satisfying meal, especially known for its Siew Bai, Gua Bao (Taiwanese Pork Belly Bun), Cai Tao Kuih, and Tang Bao. The dim sum is fresh and juicy, with the siew mai being a standout dish. While the location is in a residential area with limited parking, it's worth the visit for the authentic local experience.
We find out this dim sum selection are quite special, which they are slightly not so traditional, where the dishes there are quite modern where u may not found out some other dim sums have. But for those normal traditional dim sum selection, they also have. Worth to try and value for money. However different ppl different taste preference. It may good for our choose but not yours. Hence just try it if you never visit before.

Very nice dimsum breakfast place here. Luckily not packed when I visited at 10+ in the morning. Order of tea being made first before proceeding to help yourselves to the wide array of dimsums available. Eat first and pay after. Dim sum are made big in size, prices are good. Lovely crysanthemum tea to wash it down. Har kow is big enough to fit 3 prawns inside. Super value. Taste is not bad, not the best but good enough for me. Few dishes shared between both of us, filling enough. Nice environment with fans.

I came here for the first time and the food was okay & the portion was big, but unfortunately I won't be coming back because of the poor service we experienced when we were about to make our payment. Although there's a signboard that listed down the price-list of all the food items, still, out of curiosity, we asked the Chinese lady, (who attended to us) if there's any receipts that would be issued to us. She said yes. But when I saw her writing something on a small square-size piece of paper, I asked her if we need to bring this piece of paper and pay at the counter. As she put the small piece of paper on my table, she glared at me with an annoyed expression without saying a word. In my opinion, in any F&B businesses, providing good customer service is of equal importance to the quality of the food. If your customers politely ask you a question, (doesn't matter if you are the boss / supervisor / manager and doesn't matter if you like it or not / if you "personally" feel offended by the question for whatsoever reason), all you have to do is just give them a reply even if it's just a "yes / no".

One of my old time fav dim sum place. The dim sum served here is quite fresh and so soft and juicy especially for the siew mai. Another favorite is the fish head dish but you need go go early as it can finish quite quickly too. The rest of the items are pretty standard menu from what you usually get at dim sum place. I was told you can also order fried noodles dishes but I didn't order. Only complain I have is it can be a bit hot as it is open space without aircond.

Great dim sum here! If you are a fan of experiencing the art of preparing and drinking Chinese tea, then this is also a place for you. The food is good and so is the service here. I made 2 trips here during my weekend on the island, and I enjoyed myself on both occasions. I didn't have to wait long for my table. They have limited seating, so it is best to visit during off-peak hours. I came for a late lunch after 2 pm. The interior decoration is nice. I was seated upstairs on both days, and I love the large airy space there.

I had the wonderful fortune of enjoying a solo lunch at this incredible place. To secure a spot, you have to arrive early and get on the list—I ended up with the second lunch seating, and it was well worth the wait. The food was nothing short of divine, beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor. The wide selection of teas was a delightful touch, offering something for every taste. The service was impeccable—attentive, warm, and seamless. And the setting itself? Absolutely charming, a perfect blend of elegance and tranquility. A truly memorable experience that I’d highly recommend!

This is a rather high-end dim sum restaurant with delicious flavors. We hope to return with a larger group to sample more from the extensive menu. The decor is beautifully and thoroughly themed, creating a memorable atmosphere. It’s best to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. For tea enthusiasts, they offer an extensive Chinese tea menu, making it a great place to explore a variety of teas as well.

A very good restaurant with Michelin awards in 2024 and 2025. The food is flavorful but on the expensive side for Dim Sum in Penang. The changing of plates were not automatic. We had to request for a change. In terms of cleanliness, there was an annoying resident fly flying around. Not friendly for seniors as the toilets were upstairs although one could appeal to use the toilet downstairs. the Ambiance is great with beautiful decor within. Staff are polite.

Spent an afternoon inside this surreal sanctuary of a tea house where the climate is worlds apart from the scorching heat outside. Beyond the wooden panel door lies this beautiful greenery that beckoned me into this space like an oasis. Ordered their tea and had an enjoyable time appreciating the quality brew with a table right beside their indoor oasis. Costly but worthwhile experience if this is what you are after.

Bao Teck Tea House is not merely a restaurant; it is more akin to a culinary gallery or cultural museum. Here, diners are not only indulging in exquisite dishes but are also engaging in an immersive journey into the local heritage. Restaurant
The Star Dimsum restaurant is a great place to get dim sum, with plenty of variety and delicious food. The outdoor seating is a nice touch, and it's great to find a restaurant without any porky taste. Recommended!
I recently visited Star Dimsum in George Town, tucked away at Lorong Abu Siti, a hidden gem for early-bird dim sum lovers. This veteran spot opens at 5:30 AM daily, perfect for a hearty breakfast amid Penang’s vibrant food scene. The dim sum are freshly made and boast great taste—steamed classics like har gao (shrimp dumplings) bursting with juicy flavor, siu mai, and chee cheong fun with prawns, plus fried treats like crispy prawn rolls. Everything is well-executed, with that authentic, homemade touch that makes each bite satisfying. The old-style restaurant feels like a step back to the 60s or 70s, with its airy, spacious setup, simple wooden tables, and a nostalgic vibe that blends retro charm with a buzzing morning crowd. It’s inexpensive, with most items affordably priced, making it a fantastic place for both locals grabbing a quick bite and visitors exploring Penang’s culinary heritage. Services from the uncles and aunties are prompt and efficient—they hustle with trays, ensuring hot dim sum arrives swiftly, even during the 8 AM rush. Overall, Star Dimsum delivers value-for-money yum cha in a lively, unpretentious setting. Highly recommend arriving early to beat the queue. 5/5 for its fresh, flavorful offerings and welcoming atmosphere!

First time here and we came for late breakfast so the crowd wasn't that much. Foods were served very fast and the order system is, you have to choose from the hot pot place. We quite liked the sharkfin soup and the fried prawns. The rest of the dim sum was average I would say. The shop is mainly operated by old staffs but they were relatively warm and nice. Price wise I won't say it's cheap and it's at the same par with those restaurants in KL though.
Nithya V — Google review
The Dim Sum here is standard and pretty reasonable and variety is fair. You pick and choose from the front and take it back to your table. Some that needs preparation they may bring it to you when it's done, but don't wait too long, sometimes they might forget 😏

Star Dim Sum is an old school yumcha establishment at Aboo Sitee Lane. Frequented by a relatively mature diner customer base, we found the food to be good but not among the best. Old school, they even serve shark fins soup for RM12.00 per bowl. The Siew Mai is good but Char Siew Bao is small and not meaty. They also don’t have pan fried radish cake with egg, quite common else where. Prefer Fu Er Dai on Northam Road

I would say the best dim sum for your bucks. The food offered was plenty of variations. It is overwhelming and tease your appetite from the beginning! And the price is pretty cheap / affordable. The service is fast, the waiters are always ready to help, the seats are plenty and the food are hot. No aircon, open air establishment, just like traditional dim sum / kopitiam place. We tried cha sau pao, shark fin soup and pork bakut. Washed down with pu erh tea real good. The tea has earthy taste and according to google has many benefits to your body, just don't drink too much. Price wise: cheap, and the food quality is good. Totally worth it. The problem is my stomach is not that big to try all their dimsum 😔. Highly recommended. 👍

I can tolerate on anything else but not when u start to charge me 20 cent for a dang straw like I have committed a war crime againts nature if I’m to use one in your establishment while at the same time there are other plastic utensils such as disposable plastic spoons and forks, and sauce trays still being used at large. At least, if you wanna sound like you are the warrior of environment and punish us with 20 cent for wanting a straw, at least show it by not using plastics in ur place man. Otherwise its just look to me that u only do this for profit and using environment as an excuse. Even the turtles would agree with me on this. And don’t let me start with the food. I went through heavy rain, navigating through the infamous Penang drivers and finding the ever hard parking slot on the land of overcrowding island, just to be presented with the dimsum that feels like I tapau that and brought home 2 hours ago. Is that steamer just for sure I wonder. The drinks are so ceroi, it was the first time i am unable to finish any drink I ordered. The rest of the menu I don’t know and I don’t want to care to order after the initial sampling of their dimsum. If you find this place good, don’t let me sway ur faith. But this would be my first and last coming here.

A halal dimsum restaurant. (Operate by Muslim family). Should try also the kuey teow and char bee tak bak (entah apa). Sedap2

Nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka's enchanting hill country, GATVIC by 13 Thirty Seven offers a delightful escape for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation. This cozy spot is perfect for backpackers exploring Ella, known for its breathtaking landscapes and iconic attractions like the Nine Arches Bridge and Ravana Waterfall. The scenic train ride from Kandy to Ella is an experience not to be missed, showcasing stunning views that will leave you in awe.
This is an interesting corner lot joint that you should check out if you are in this area. Their decorative style is to give a rustic vibe with plants and relaxing atmosphere. The best thing is that it's shaded in the evening as you sit outdoors alfresco style. Plants and creeping vines also means that there's flowers and plant 'droppings' that may flavor your food throughout your meal. 😂 Their beer is imported and their selection changes often. I ordered their 3 glasses of beer set which today meant lager from Vietnam, double hazy from Scotland and new england style IPA from UK. Superb and enjoyable! The food is however delicious. Everything I ordered deserves high commendation. The shrimp tapas deserves special mention though. The flavoring of the shrimp and the delicious pairing of the bread is heavenly. Even though their jumbo sausage isn't exactly jumbo, the chilli chicken topping complements it well. Taco, burger and eggplant tapas was flavorful but the belacan chicken came off a bit dry. The waiter gets top marks for his attentiveness, friendliness and efficiency. I have never seen a waiter so dedicated to wipe the drinks condensation on the table and his great interactions. Kudos! Even though they have an upstairs option to sit in for their tapas selection (which you can still order from downstairs) the staircase leading upstairs is incredibly narrow and angulated. Don't attempt this if you are planning to consume their multiple choices of alcoholic beverages. Just in case.

During our stay in George Town we went to GATVIC twice. The Vegetarian Burger and Homemade Fries were amazing. The assortment of craft beer is also the best I have seen in a while in Asia, nevertheless it is a bit pricy because of the import cost. Also try the backed Camembert, very delicious!

Totally love this little cozy restaurant located at a quiet corner of Malay St Ghaut. I'm totally impressed by the good services and delicious food served. We had it's taco with chilli beef and it was pillowy soft, the filling was tasty & well balanced. The Chilli Dog is a must-have! Ordered mine with caramelized onions & mustard and it's delish. A good variety of imported beers to choose from too. Imagine they'll change your beer glass for every type of new beer bottle or can that you open. A place to chill. Keep it up guys!

Great little joint for craft beers! The food was exceptional. Gambas, mushrooms, tacos, dogs.. we had it all. Wiped everything out with their delicious warm crusty bread. Our kids couldn’t get enough of the bread. It just kept coming. Visit if you want good food with your craft beers coz these guys know their stuff 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for a bar with plenty options of craft beers, look no further. Vibe is good. The South American music definitely helps giving it that atmosphere. The place is beautifully decorated with the aerial roots of the creeping weeds. Food option is fine for a bar like this. Just right after you got a few sip of the beers. Service is attentive. They will help to recommend beers suitable to your palate. This is helpful when you are not sure which to pick.

Superb tacos! must order both the chicken and lamb tacos! Love their hand cut fries too and not to mention they sell great pecan tarts as desserts. Nice place to just chill
Pei — Google review
Exceptional craft beer bar, the best we’ve visited in 5 months travelling SE Asia. The staff know their beers very well and have an incredible international selection. They will recommend beers based on your preferences and even the order to drink them. When you chose a beer from the fridge it is put in an ice bucket on the table and the staff pour in a little at a time into your glass. The food is also delicious and very good value. We had the vegan burgers and fries and they were incredible. Sure, the beer is very expensive. But remember you’re in a Muslim country with very little domestic brewing. Highly recommend this bar info you want to treat yourself to a few delicious beers and great service.

This place should be wayyyy more popular than it is currently. The hotdogs are really good. I've tried various combinations, and I think it's best when you mix the dog and the chilli ie chicken dog with beef chilli or beef dog with chicken chilli -- the combination brings out the flavour beautifully. The caramelized onions is a great topping. I also tried the fish tacos and they are not bad. Drinks are a little pricey here: RM16 for iced choc. Definitely will be returning

Steamboat restaurant
At Town Steamboat Restaurant, diners can indulge in a delightful culinary experience that transitions from day to night. By day, the restaurant serves up an array of affordable and fresh dim sum, featuring everything from classic fish balls to delicious dumplings and wok-style dishes. As evening falls, guests can enjoy a unique steamboat buffet that stands out for its cleanliness and friendly staff.
Fresh ingredients and good variety. Not bad fur a buffet steamboat experience.
Kuganaa K — Google review
The place is clean and staff is very friendly. Compare to last time, now they only have steamboat instead of mix bbq and steamboat. Actually without bbq is good, because most people hate oily and smelly environment. This is the only steamboat buffet with dimsum. For the seafood you can ask them to fry for you. The only thing that I believe most people dislike is you have to pay for the drinks, and not free refillable.
Felnix — Google review
Bad experience every single time I came(3 times). It's a buffet but they don't prepare enough food . The uncivilised people push you off to grab the limited choices of food. Poor service from staff, slamming your orders on the table. The so-called cheap price at around RM30 per person, I would just recommend that you eat good food elsewhere. Beware, we had to pay separately for drinks when we came on Christmas Eve. 100% NOT recommended!!!
Wei M — Google review
Came here for dinner and the food was good. However, we got cheated by a Chinese staff(lady), where the bill was RM 60 and we paid with a RM 100 note. We have not received the balance yet. Upon leaving the shop, I went and ask for my balance, and she said she has given it to my wife. And when I asked my wife, she said no. So the both of us, went and confronted her. And she was so certain that she gave the balance to us already. And went her boss showed us the receipt, it was written that we paid RM 60. Hence, I asked her, if you are so certain that you gave me the balance then how come the receipt here wrote that we paid exactly RM 60 and not RM 100. So if you said that we paid RM 60 exactly, how and why would you have given us the balance???? And get reply was shocking!!!! She immediately twisted her earlier statement and said that we only paid her exactly RM 60 and so no balance was given!!!!!! At the end, she and her boss both kept twisting and turning their stories and did not even give us anything nor did anything!!!
DEENESHA P — Google review
they changed the prices already which are higher than before and no bbq anymore. have to ask their worker to grill them for the customer. and no more free unlimited drinks. i think they changed a lot.
Anthony G — Google review
Offers nice and cheap dim sum in the morning. There's a variety of choices too, ranging from the normal fish ball and dumplings to wok-style dishes.
Yik L — Google review
The steam boat food is nothing to boast about, however, they offer the raw ingredients to be cooked, which is much better than the steam boat.

The portion of this grill fish is quite big, we get this stingray is about RM 54. Food is nice! This food court has variety of foods.... A fantastic food court
