Lounge
Nestled in the heart of Chester, Rosies is a vibrant nightclub that has become a staple of the local nightlife scene. Known for its electrifying atmosphere, this venue boasts DJ sets and themed nights that keep the energy high until dawn. With three distinct floors, including the lively Popworld on the ground level featuring nostalgic tunes and a dazzling dancefloor, there's something for everyone. The rooftop terrace and champagne lounge add an extra touch of glamour to your night out.
Called in here by chance on a weekend away, had a great time. That great that I can't tell you the time drinks started to be half price 🤣. We were probably the oldest people in there but everyone was very friendly and the staff very welcoming. Will definitely call again next time we visit Chester

Little quiet for a night out but the pit was very good. slight issue with booking but they comped some drinks so all's well that ends well.

Had an AMAZING time last week, Spent 90% of the time in The Pit/Rock Room, the atmosphere in there was insane! The whole group loved the place and loved the vibe of the room, staff were very friendly and welcoming and got our drinks very fast! Definitely fitting of the 5* review and will definitely be reccomending not only the establishment, but more specifically The Pit/Rock Room for one of the best nights out in Chester!
Craftycyclone — Google review
The atmosphere is always great, especially on the alternative floor!! Love the DJ there, such a nice guy, always takes song requests and gets the crowd hella hyped. Always an amazing vibe anytime I go ♡♡
Wiktoria K — Google review
Most bouncers are sound but there’s a couple who are mad power hungry, I spent a lot of dough in this place through the time I been going there. Saturday night a bouncer didn’t even check my id then opened the gate n didn’t give me a reason why I can’t go in. I weren’t the only lad he wouldn’t let in neither, when I asked another bouncer he didn’t have a clue why I wasnt let in. Then another time one of em was checking me like I had a blade or gun on me or something, when he seen I didn’t he found an excuse it was my pants when I’d wore those in there loads of times before, again another bouncer said my pants was fine and should of been let in. Sort it out
J — Google review
Nothing more to say other than simply incredible. My group of friends always go to the pit / the rock room. Definitely the best night out in Chester. The staff are incredible, service is so efficient and me and my friends can't wait to go back.
Kassia S — Google review
Extremely unprofessional and aggressive bouncers. I witnessed one of them punch a customer in the head and physically grapple a young woman, who did nothing wrong— then defend how they are in the right to strike customers? The doorman with the glasses refused to admit how dangerous that situation could have been. Completely unacceptable behaviour. When I expressed how uncomfortable and disturbed I felt, another girl nearby told me the bouncers had knocked someone else out, unconscious. This kind of violence and intimidation has no place in any venue. I would strongly advise others to be cautious.
Cate S — Google review
AVOID THIS PLACE! Unprofessional & Aggressive bouncers that think its acceptable to have a young lad on the floor with about 7 of them on top of him, grabbing his throat to the point you couldn’t see him, he was defenceless and it could of ended differently. The doorman with dark hair and glasses refused to admit how dangerous this could have ended when questioned and said that they are aloud to punch customers in the head, How unprofessional and shocking if that is supposedly true! I would not recommend this place to anyone as it’s not safe and the bouncers are a disgrace.

With its stunning location and atmospheric surroundings featuring stained glass windows and the original organ, it's an ideal spot for enjoying signature cocktails or indulging in boozy brunches and divine dinners.
Hidden gem. Blink and you’ll miss it kind of place but definitely one to watch out for next time we come here. Staff downstairs and upstairs made sure to recommend ordering through the app to take advantage of the discount code saving. We ordered the platter. Steak was beautifully cooked. Burgers were juicy and seasoned nicely. We can’t understand why the place isn’t more crowded. Thank you to the staff for making us so welcome.

Nice find, tucked away up a side street, good ambience friendly and attentive staff. Terrace outside bar. Good food at reasonable prices. Various packages and promotions

Went here Christmas eve, place is amazing inside, great architecture and kept all original features with a modern twist, gorgeous food and the best cocktails. Shut early as it was Xmas eve, but can imagine it being a buzz at a normal weekend.

First time here, amazing pub. Cheaper if you buy 2 bottles. Back here Aug 2025, young barman Tyler is great, nothing to much trouble. Happy hour 5-8pm Only opens at 5pm. Mark and Tyler, 2 great barmen. 👍😎
Margey — Google review
Be careful, check before you swipe your card for payments. I bought a pitcher cocktail and the bar man put himself a nice large tip on my bill, only realised after we left.
Dougal S — Google review
Great restaurant and bar with wide selection of drinks and food in the heart of the city. You can sit in the terrace outside and enjoy the weather or enjoy the classic cozy ambience inside. Prices are reasonable and portion is decent. Service is quick and staff is friendly.

If you want to spend time enjoying good food and fine wine in lovely surroundings the Church is the place. We were met by one of the waitresses and shown to our table, high up overlooking the well stocked bar.We were well looked after by all the girls and we had a great afternoon. The food which was only going to be a snack turned into a feast, amazing. The chuch itself was so interesting to see and all the work done was great.Well worth a visit.

Good fresh clean pint of Cider. Will be a go-to for many a Hen or Stag party so you can expect larger groups. If you find the main bar downstairs getting too busy you can always try the smaller bar up on the balcony area.

Cocktail bar
Bar
Kuckoo Chester is a trendy boutique bar with an energetic Indie Rock n Roll atmosphere, offering a wide array of glamorous cocktails. The bar is known for its unique and creative drinks such as The Ten Dollar Milkshake garnished with a Krispy Kreme Donut and The Rainbow Road featuring colorful glow sticks. Additionally, they host DIY Cocktail Masterclass sessions for those interested in learning the art of cocktail making while enjoying their concoctions.
My friend and I attended the bottomless brunch on Saturday, and we will definitely be coming back! It was absolutely brilliant. The value for money is unbeatable – 2 hours of bottomless pizza and cocktails for just £25! The cocktail menu was endless, the service was fast, and the pizza was delicious. The entertainment was the cherry on top – music bingo, fantastic prizes, and even a conga line! It was so much fun from start to finish. Honestly, what more could you ask for? An absolute bargain and a perfect way to spend a Saturday. Highly recommend!
Lauren H — Google review
We’ve visited kuckoo a couple times in the past and it’s been great, so after races last weekend we decided to pop in again. Unfortunately, the first bar lady that served us as we entered the building was extremely disappointing. It took a long time for our drinks to be made and when we received them they were practically in drinkable. We ordered an old fashioned and a zombie cocktail which both tasted very poor, especially for 20+ pounds. We moved our way down the bar to man I recognised from previous visits as Oscar, we explained the problem and he apologised and offered to remake both our drinks free of charge. The service was much faster, and the drinks were a million times better. My old fashion in particular was exceptional. Night and day service. The music and atmosphere in kuckoo is always unbeatable, with the fire creating a great sceptical and making the night memorable. Big thank you again to Oscar, and also the doorman who was very friendly as we exited, recommending other places to visit. We hope to be back in the future.
Sam — Google review
The best bottomless brunch I’ve ever been to! Didn’t have to wait for drinks at all . All cocktails included made fresh, shots also included baby Guinness and jammy dodger shots . Staff were very friendly and entertaining with the fire. Bingo was so much fun.
Kayleigh E — Google review
I stay in Chester for 2 days every year so decided to visit some cocktail bars. This bar was quite chill and cool. It was very quiet but enjoyable. Or server was lovely and the cocktails she made were quite nice. Wish they did an offer on drinks I would’ve ordered more than 2! Will visit again next year.
Courtney A — Google review
Laura and Joe are fab! So attentive and make an effort to make sure our needs are met, so social. They make us want to never leave kuckoo . They made my night! I even bought my friend from Chicago and she had the best time .
Sam H — Google review
I loved this place! They were very welcoming on the door and the bar staff always had their eye on who is coming in even if it is extremely busy. They keep their eye out for new patrons and offered them cocktail lists straight away. It is an extremely vibrant place with so much going on. The cocktail list is out of this world and we couldn’t resist ordering some of the more flamboyant drinks, just to see the bar staff at the top of their game. Sometimes when ordering cocktails, it can take forever to get your drink, but this place have it extremely well organised and the cocktails come out as quick as ordering a glass of wine. It is great to see all the staff so happy and helpful. One small quibble and it is small, they could do to spray down the bar top and menus as it gets sticky with all the cocktail ingredients. But I will be back to this place no doubt! Highly recommend.
Sara H — Google review
Fantastic cocktail bar with great music. We booked a cocktail making masterclass and it's the best one I've ever been to. Amazing staff and amazing atmosphere!

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Chester Zoo is a renowned destination, home to over 20,000 animals from 400 different species. The zoo's founder aimed to create a space without bars, using natural barriers like ditches and moats. Visitors can explore the various habitats on foot, by monorail, or even by boat. The zoo is dedicated to conservation efforts worldwide. Surrounding Chester are miles of lush countryside, making it an ideal location for weddings with picturesque backdrops for photos.
Staff are excellent and friendly. Plenty to see and do. Be aware that the zoo itself is huge. You will not see everything in one day, so pick the animals you wish to see. Or spread your visit to multiple visits over the year. Annual membership is worth it, especially if you have young children that tire easily. We personally have an8 month old and have visited multiple times. (He loves the fish and penguins) But we see new bits every time we go. Take your time, you can take a packed lunch, though you can get food and ice cream, drinks, tea and coffee around the park. Also their is a small sweet shop on site for those with a sweet tooth. (Bring your wallet for that experience)
Michael C — Google review
This zoo is awesome! It’s big, so give yourself a few hours to explore. The elephants, rhinos, and bears were amazing to see, and I was lucky enough to spot the leopard too. The exhibits are huge and well designed, with plenty of space for the animals but still great views for visitors. Highly recommend!
Alyssa C — Google review
Great day here. The animal enclosures are nice and spacious. It was informative. The butterfly House was very busy with them flying around and the free flying bat house was great. Great to see some species we hadn't seen before. Plenty of refreshment places and toilets.
Vicky D — Google review
Lovely zoo, although entry is on the rather expensive side, you can get them slightly cheaper if you buy online in advance. The zoo is large enough that you can spend the whole day walking around it, with many different enclosures to visit. There are daily feedings and talks that you can watch and listen to, if you time it right.
Daniel F — Google review
I had a lovely visit last week at Chester Zoo. Everywhere you look there is an animal being helped via a breeding program, with information about them near their habitat. The zookeepers are very clearly passionate and caring in their roles.
Dyl — Google review
Awesome zoo, well laid out and so much to see. Animals are clearly well looked after and the whole set up is top quality. Very accessible for those with limited mobility (wheelchair friendly) and notices for those with sensory issues too.
Heather D — Google review
We visited Chester Zoo for a day trip and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience overall. The staff were excellent—friendly, approachable, and always willing to help, which made a real difference throughout the visit. Parking was straightforward, with wide spaces and clear signage, making arrival stress-free. The zoo itself offers a fantastic break for families, with plenty to explore and good facilities for young children. Hiring a trolley proved to be a brilliant option, especially when carrying backpacks or managing tired little ones. That said, there are a few areas that could be improved. The toilets did have a noticeable odour, which detracted slightly from the overall comfort. Free water is only available at the entrance, and it would be a thoughtful gesture to provide additional refill stations around the site, particularly on warmer days. To see all areas in one visit, you may need to keep a brisk pace—so plan ahead if you're hoping for a more relaxed experience. While the range of animals is impressive, we did notice the absence of certain species such as tarantulas, scorpions, and unfortunately no sharks or crocodilian species. Despite these minor drawbacks, Chester Zoo remains a well-organised and enjoyable destination, especially for families. We’d happily return and recommend it—with just a few tweaks, it could easily be a five-star experience.
Panos A — Google review
A brilliant zoo, with so many different animals of varying sizes to see. The keepers are both passionate and knowledgeable about the animals they look after. as are the volunteers. Best to visit over 2 days, so as to ensure you see everything without having to rush.

Had a fabulous bottomless brunch thanks to our server Sophie. She was very attentive and kept the drinks topped up. The service was fast friendly and the drinks were lovely too. Highly recommend for bottomless brunch and we would come again.

It's a great example when it's busy it's doing well. The atmosphere was lively. But this experience was a surprise. My friend made this a reservation to have a meal here. So it was reserved for 2 hours, so exchanged presents. But to everyone's surprised when we came to order food. We were told there was a 2 hour wait. Wasn't told prior in advance, safe to say, wasn't hanging around. Had plans else where later on so left. Ended up leaving me present as well. I was really disappointed. I had high hopes to see what your palettes had to offer.

13 of us visited yesterday for bottomless brunch for a 50th birthday. They had decorated the table for us! Really worth it and good value for money, the service was quick so we had plenty of drinks and the food was also lovely. Would recommend! ⭐️

Alright music drew us in originally and the fact we needed a piss 🤣 Had an indie vibe but suddenly became a capital FM chav music bar and drawings on wall have playgym vibes so only had one beer and made ourselves scarce. Prob a good place for the younger generation fantastic sized place and two good bar areas one up one down.

For a cocktail bar the food here is amazing! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and loved the music 🎶 I had the 3 little dishes for £15 on a Tuesday, and all three were really tasty and they did the egg for me just how I asked 😊. My partner had a steak which he was very impressed by, would come again if we are in the area again 💕

Horrific stay well clear! 1 hour to make brunch without any word from the waiters. It turns up with burnt slices of hovis instead of sourdough, burger bun tops instead of muffins, Heinz baked beans instead of chakalaka beans, and co-op guacamole instead of smashed avocado… the audacity of the waiters to plonk that down without any mention in the hope we won’t notice. Pathetic!
Jake L — Google review
I visited the Suburbs with my wife for the first time since lock down. The service was as impeccable and super welcoming as always! We felt safe at all times and it was clear that they take the measures needed to maximise safety for everyone very seriously. Great chilled out atmosphere, and the food was fabulous! I can't recommend a visit to the Suburbs enough, one of Chester's hidden gems.

Great gig from The Commoners. Poor sound yet again an issue with the Live Rooms. Shame, as its a lovely venue with friendly staff. Maybe it's the shape of the performance space.

Had a really good night yesterday watching Hot 8 Brass .. The door and front of house staff went out of their way to find us reserved seats, since standing for long periods is hard for both of us. The bar staff were quick to make sure we didn't stay thirsty too. The music was great too.
Jane M — Google review
Watched Absolute Bowie last night, amazing band and great set. Sound was good. I struggled to see at times but we just moved around to other areas. This band are worth seeing!! Also seen Livewire and Craig Charles here and both were brilliant.
Claire R — Google review
One of the best music venues around... Great location.. right by Chester Station and bus stops Great sound quality.. never experienced any poor sound Great viewing.. smallish, tight venue. You are close to the stage. Great bar.. fantastic selection of draught beers and quality spirits Great line ups.. irrespective of genre Great value.. most bands are £35 or less Great dining options nearby for a preshow meal The only issue is the very limited, and unreserved, seating. Standing is fine for the tall, fit and able but more provision should be given to those less fortunate. My last gig.. Robert Jon and the Wreck who were amazing My next.. Wishbone Ash (over 2 days including the entire Argus album and "Ashcon"... again!
Howard D — Google review
This is largely a stand up venue. I was sitting in the bar with my wife (can't stand long as old). The bouncer asked why, and then arranged armbands and reserved seats. Very impressed. Music was great too.

Prohibition in Chester is a hidden gem that takes you back to the 1920s prohibition era of America. Tucked away off Watergate St, this secretive bar offers a unique nightlife experience with live jazz and blues performances, vintage decor, and menus concealed in old books. Inspired by speakeasys of the past, Prohibition provides a cozy atmosphere with antique furnishings and an impressive drink selection.
Loved it! Great evening here, went for few cocktails....ended up staying much longer....as was such a great atmosphere, the friendliest host, who took our orders at the table....and great master cocktail makers!! Brill value for the amazing cocktails. Also loved the vintage music and live piano session. Really great speakeasy vibes..

Stunningly wonderful cocktails served by friendly, talented, and attentive staff. We returned for a second visit and they recognized that we had returned as a party of 3, not 4, as my son was tired and wanted to go back to his room. Would be sure to make this a stop on any return trips to Chester. Atmosphere can best be described as a vampire’s boudoir - dark with a hint of incense and classical decor.

Fantastic speakeasy cocktail bar. Well hidden and atmospheric inside. Great mezcal margherita off menu. Would highly recommend. And lovely Louis came looking for us after we left a bag in the bar. Thanks so much 😃

Chesters hidden bar. What a gorgeous place. The staff were so attentive and friendly this included the doorman who is the first person you see before going in the bar so friendly. The bar itself is beautiful and unique. Lovely relaxing atmosphere I honestly didn't want to leave. We had several cocktails from their great menu which were all delicious. Definitely worth a visit if in chester

Night club
Bar
If you're looking for an unforgettable night out, Cruise Nightclub is the place to be! Nestled on St John Street, this vibrant venue boasts six uniquely themed spaces that transport you from Manhattan to Moscow. Each room offers a distinct atmosphere, ensuring there's something for everyone. The friendly door staff set the tone right from the start, making newcomers feel welcome and at ease. Inside, you'll find fantastic music and attentive bar service that enhances your experience.
Went to cruise with my friends on Saturday. The door staff were so friendly on the way in and that is very difficult to find. Had a nice chat with them as we are not from the area. They Explained to us about the club and when we went inside it was exactly what they said it was. Great music, great rooms and great service from friendly bar staff. I love the fact that you can move around and have a different experience in each room. My favourite was the Russian room on the top floor. Very comfortable. As we were leaving we asked where we could get a taxi from and they ordered us one straight away and was there in 10minutes. The door staff let us stay in the warm whilst we waited. I'm not one to write reviews but was blown away from start to finish. Will definatly be back.

Do not go here!! Entire visit was pleasant until power-greedy bouncer took my visor cap off me without warning. Most people can all appreciate rules for licensed premises and clubs but when the bouncers make no effort to educate you on the rules or to give you an opportunity to actually follow them, it causes issues and just ruins your night. Bouncers at Cruise in Chester refuse to acknowledge that there is a “head doorman” or someone in charge, and when I asked for the head doorman, one member of staff laughed and others were in such shock that I had asked for one. I was completely sober on this night and was appalled that staff were refusing to point out who was the head doorman considering an assault or spiking could have taken place. You know you’re not safe when staff lie and say that there is no one in charge and never was. However, Neil was the head doorman and soon spoke to me who was not happy his staff had lied and tried to divert me from the person in charge. Neil resolved the issue at hand and did speak to his staff regarding their conduct. Thanks Neil for being very professional and knowledgeable! However, the other security staff made my already-unsatisfactory night a worse one, resulting in this wordy review. Staff made me feel very uncomfortable as a result of me asking who was in charge and refusing to tell me. Therefore, I will not visit again and will not recommend. As well as the above, the building is in poor condition, music is not chosen well and the general crowd is not a nice one.

Booked a VIP booth for a hen party in the Manhattan room - staff on the door were lovely, our drinks were great with plenty of ice/glasses. Party sparklers in the champagne bucket on arrival, a nice touch. Staff regularly checked everything was OK for us and were really helpful. Great night of dancing till 3am on a race day we definitely made the most of it!
Clare W — Google review
I've actually been to Cruise a few times but never thought of booking a table. Just recently on our last visit we decided to make it more special and book a table before hand over the phone. The receptionist was very helpful! On the night we were able to jump the queue... bonus!! It worked as a base to meet up, leave our drinks securely instead of spilling them down us whilst dancing (nothing worse) and the staff even brought our bottles out to us with sparkles on. On a whole I've found Cruise to be a great night out, wide selection of drinks, friendly staff, helpful bouncers and they always dress up or decorate the club for the holidays. There are even shot girls walking around all night selling Jager Bombs... Another bonus... The drink comes to you, no need to walk to the bar! I would recommend Cruise to all ages... Mondays and Saturdays are my favorite. I've never been a Friday person however I've heard if you arrive before midnight... You can pay £15 and that's your night pretty much sorted! You get free entry, five drinks vouchers and a £2 discount for Abbey taxis. Can't wait to try it this month! Oh and don't forget the free flip flops they give out to the ladies if your feet are hurting!!!!! :)
Sarah B — Google review
Me and my friends just recently went on a Friday and did the £15 deal in which you get 5 drinks vouchers, free entry and £2 off your taxi! Worked great for me and my friends and we all had a great night! As students as well we go on a Monday quite regularly and get £2 drinks, such a good deal!
Jessica P — Google review
Very unprofessional, was denied entry due to it being a “student night” even though it was never advertised as one nor had any information explaining it was. I’ve been here previously and never been asked for a student Id or ever been told it was a student night. Rang the venue and had the phone purposely put down on me and got passed on and on to people who never dealt with the situation. I think if they want to pretend it’s a student night again, they should maybe advertise it. I’ve still got no closer to receiving a refund for the tickets that were wasted.
Ted F — Google review
Tunes are quality, DJ was class, birds were banging but the bouncers were proper wastemen. If you’re going for quids in, make sure you take your student card as well as your ID. Some biggie smalls looking bouncer turned us away because we didn’t have our student cards and he wouldn’t even accept unidays the nonce
Harrison B — Google review
This was the worst nightclub i have ever been to. First of all they promised us several dance floors but there was only one opened because no other people were coming to the club. So we had to spend the whole evening on one floor where they played music which no one liked. We left after two hours of waiting for good music and went to macdonalds because we had more fun there 💪🏽

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Church
Place of worship
Chester Cathedral, dating back to 1092, is a medieval marvel located on the site of an ancient church and Benedictine Abbey. The cathedral showcases a blend of Norman Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Visitors can explore the interior before ascending the 216-step tower for panoramic views spanning two countries and five counties. Nearby, Watergate Street boasts charming half-timbered houses like Gods Providence House and Leche House.
Chester Cathedral is an unmissable gem in the heart of the city. Unlike many major landmarks, entry to the main cathedral is free, though donations are encouraged, which makes it an exceptional experience at remarkable value. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped by a deep sense of history and tranquility. It’s a serene escape from the bustle outside, offering space to pause, reflect, and simply take in the beauty. The architecture is breathtaking. A captivating blend of Norman solidity and Gothic elegance unfolds in every corner, from the soaring vaulted ceilings to the radiant stained-glass windows. The craftsmanship is extraordinary, especially the intricately carved choir stalls, which are a true highlight.
Aleks B — Google review
Absolutely lovely place that will keep you entertained for an hour ⛪General info: So there's a lot to see & read at this cathedral. The entrance is not big, but noticeable. Upon entrance, you will find a few pamphlets and will be kindly nudged towards a small donation (£5-10 per person is acceptable). Then, you can immediately proceed to the corridors and halls of the cathedral, as well as a big gift shop. It is notable that, while there's not much walking to do, there's much to see & "inhale" the atmosphere of an effectively ancient place. I'll leave it for you to discover 😊 🧹: State of the place: obviously it's an old old building and I think that the administration is doing their best to keep it tidy and relatively organised. Toilets are clean, no foul smells or anything. I would say there's a few random boxes and just "stuff" here and there, but generally it's pretty nice 🤵Service: obviously in a place like this people will be very nice and polite, as they are working for a greater cause. A lot of personnel going back and forward, moving and cleaning stuff. It's nice to see, as it is clear that this place is loved and is being taken care of Honestly? Visit it. Whether you're religious or not, you'll be in awe of this grandiose piece of history called Chester Cathedral ✌️📿

Extraordinary place. Well maintained, very large, beautiful ceilings, glass, mosaics, metalwork, statues and more. Not to opulent (unlike some) but extremely well maintained. Exceptional value for money with a minimum entry price of £5. Pay more of you can as a building of this size and quality takes thousands per day to keep open.

My Visit to Chester Cathedral, Chester Visiting Chester Cathedral was an unforgettable experience — a perfect blend of history, architecture, and serenity right in the heart of the city. The cathedral stands as one of the most magnificent landmarks in Chester, with its stunning Gothic architecture, intricate stained-glass windows, and beautifully carved wooden choir stalls that tell centuries-old stories. As I walked inside, the calm atmosphere instantly stood out. The soaring arches, detailed stonework, and peaceful background music created a sense of timeless beauty. The central nave is breathtaking, and the Lady Chapel and Cloisters are absolute must-sees — especially the peaceful garden courtyard that feels miles away from the bustle outside. I also climbed the Cathedral Tower, which offers panoramic views of Chester’s rooftops, the city walls, and even Wales on a clear day. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share fascinating details about the cathedral’s Romanesque origins and its role through medieval times. Visitor Tips: • Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. • The Tower Tour and Falconry & Nature Gardens are worth adding to your visit. • Allow at least 1–2 hours to fully explore and enjoy the architecture and history. • There’s a lovely café and gift shop inside for a quiet break. Overall: A must-visit gem in Chester — awe-inspiring, peaceful, and full of heritage. Perfect for history lovers, photographers, and anyone who appreciates timeless beauty.

A warm and welcoming Cathedral. Lots of interesting bits for everyone. Lovely windows, nice choir and beautiful carvings, esp. misericords. Floors are beautiful tiles. Well worth a visit and donation!

Chester Cathedral is a must-see when visiting the city. The architecture is stunning, with tall ceilings, stained glass, and detailed stonework that reflect its long history. Entry is free, though donations are welcomed, which makes it very accessible. The cloisters and gardens are peaceful and add to the overall experience. There are plenty of small details and historic features to spot as you walk around, and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. You don’t need more than an hour or two, but it’s a memorable stop and definitely one of Chester’s highlights.e

Chester Cathedral is a stunning piece of architecture. I highly recommend to everyone to see it. I would have loved to have seen it inside but unfortunately there was a private event happening, I just wished they had put a sign outside saying so, as hundreds of people making their way in to where you pay only to be told by a member of staff we cant go in and the hundreds trying to go out again against more people coming in was an absolute nightmare as it was a Saturday.
Willows M — Google review
You can easily spend at least 3 hours exploring Chester Cathedral. There’s so much to see—from the beautiful architecture and stained-glass windows to the peaceful gardens and historic rooms. It’s a calm and impressive place, and definitely worth taking your time to enjoy

The establishment encourages guests to explore their vast cocktail menu, which includes interesting combinations of freshly pressed citrus juice and home-grown greenhouse herbs.

Absolutely lovely venue, the barman was really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our food and would definitely return. The only thing that let it down was the chef smoking on the terrace right by the door to the restaurant at the end of service and smoke blowing into the restaurant. Also, staff commenting on another member of staff with customers in earshot…unfair and unprofessional.

My partner and I enjoyed a gorgeous meal here as part of our weekend away in Chester. We ordered Hanging Kebabs and they were divine! The restaurant was pretty empty as it was a Thursday evening but the atmosphere was still lovely and the service was spot on. Thank you so much!

I visited the Botanist in Chester on a blind date. It's set in a beautiful side street and it's delightful inside. A rustic magical setting. The food was delicious and the hanging kebab very tasty. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A lovely place.

Nice venue and friendly staff but food is poor. Nothing we had was "homemade", all pre-packaged and assembled. The Botanist bowl comprised a manufactured cous cous salad, so-called heritage tomatoes (just like bog standard supermarket ones, unripe), supposedly marinaded, green felafel out of a packet and deep fried like bullets, some hummus (not homemade), adored with chickpeas like bullets and some rocket salad, all for £14. Bargain! The lunch lamb kofta was another UPF burger like affair, served with a livid green sauce, the same hummus and chickpeas arrangement on a "garlic flatbread" out of a packet, £8.95. Save your money!

Brewery
Brewhouse & Kitchen - Chester is a charming pub housed in an 18th-century townhouse, featuring original exposed-brick arches. It's the perfect spot for a delightful boozy brunch experience that doesn't go overboard, offering three brunch dishes and half a bottle of prosecco per person at an affordable price. This well-known bar is part of a chain that brews its own beers on-site and offers brewery experience days.
We did the beer and whisky pairing masterclass with Michael and it was great. Fun and informative, a great opportunity to appreciate the skill and passion that makes these drinks. Even better for me... was that 2 people on the table didn't like whisky so I got to take my first infinity bottle home (to save me drinking 15 shots of whisky). Michael was entertaining and knowledgeable, clearly in love with his craft. Highly recommend the session.

Lovely building with plenty of comfortable seating and a good range of beers, a lot coming from their in house brww that you pass on the way in - and they had been brewing on the day we visited. We were going to eat, however on trying to order we were told that it would be an hour and a half before we would be able to as 'a large party' had arrived. The pub was not that busy, looked like a party of 6 in one area and possibly 8-10 in the restaurant area and a chef leaning against the end of the bar.....a real disappointment as the menu looked good.
Richard W — Google review
Fascinating pub with its own brewery downstairs so you can drink knowing there no beer miles. The pub has a lot of industrial features including copper piping. We ate there and the food was pretty good.

Had a wonderful afternoon at the Brewhouse & Kitchen, with the beer and whisky (no E, so must be Scottish) class experience, my wife also enjoyed it even though she doesn't like whiskey (added the E for Irish balance). Our host Michael was very good, and got funnier as we carried on drinking 🙄, would definitely pay another visit.

Attended the beer and whisky masterclass with the very knowledgeable michael, would highly recommend to everyone of legal age! The onsite brewery was an added bonus and the beers they produced and we tasted were excellent! All beers paired with a whisky and also a lovely meal at the end! All in all an excellent experience and would certainly look into the other experiences they have on offer!

This is the most dog friendly pub I’ve ever been to! We felt like the dogs were wanted instead of just accepted and tolerated. All the staff were amazing, very friendly and professional. The food was unbelievable! We had a range as there was 6 of us. The Sunday dinner, steaks and burgers we had were delicious and to a high standard. We love that on the menu it tells you what pint would complement your food! The drinks were lovely and the building itself was lovely decorated and very clean. We will definitely be back and we will recommend to everyone (especially with dogs).

Got to say it's not my type of place, who wants a locally produced ale with a tropical aroma, or with pineapple? That's not, in my opinion, a beer. Especially at over £6. The cocktail my wife had was very nice, but a whopping £11.50. Cuban Skyline. The staff were good, very friendly and very efficient. Just not the type of place for me.

We started at BarLounge for drinks then moved across the Road to Upstairs at The Grill. We sat at the sofa at the bar on the 1st Floor. The staff are expectionally friendly, engaging and attentive. We ordered half a dozen Colchester Oysters amazing, steak with marrowbone and thrice cooked chips (my mouth is watering just writing this) the steak was cooked to perfection medium rare, juicey, tender and flavoursome, the marrowbone was sensational soooooo moorish absolutely 👌🏽, chips beautiful, the monkfish was tender and meaty slighty overseasoned for me but thats just personal choice. We didnt order a dessert but was sent a complimentary one. The music was jazzy and smooth, perfect ambience and atmosphere, I highly recommend Upstairs at The Grill and will be retuning again very soon

Wow. This is a great spot if your in and around Chester. Both indoor and outdoor seating, serving food and drinks. The atmosphere was a great vibe and the food was really nice, it’s a shame the bar is positioned on the side of the road and a little pricey but that is overlooked by the venue and quality of service. This is definitely not a place for tourists!! I am on vacation from USA and decided to visit this pub on 25/9/25 at 1020pm with my brother. We ordered a pint of beer and then asked for another beer at 1045pm. The young red head barmaid behind the bar informed us that they had stopped serving. She then continued to serve other customers. When I asked her why she was serving other customers and not us, she replied that "they were her friends." So there is obviously one set of rules for locals or the "barmaids friends" and a different set of rules for those who just happen to be tourists visiting this pub. After that incident, I saw this notice on the bar ( photo attached ) offering free alcohol to anybody who left the pub a 5-star review on google. When I pointed out to the barmaid that it is strictly prohibited by google's reviews policy to give anyone alcohol in exchange for a 5-star review. (The reasons why this is considered unethical are obvious, but, include inflated google ratings). Anyway, she simply shrugged her shoulders and said it was nothing to do with her and that her manager did it. If you are visiting the lovely city of Chester, I recommend that you avoid this "locals only" pub.
Mike P — Google review
I frequently visit the Red Lion for both food with friends/family or drinks with friends. There has always been a welcoming service anytime we visit. Food service has always been quick and the food has always been so nice to eat with great portions. Meg has recognised me over the years and always remembers my drink order, which makes us feel really welcome and always want to come back each week. I’ve taken my family here for lunch also when they’ve visited and loved the food also. I’d definitely recommend to anyone, whether you’re a Chester regular or visiting the area.

I just want to give a shout out to Rachel the chef. She always cooks everything to perfection, never have I ever been served a bad meal or bag steak. She deserves a pay rise for the efforts she puts in and always allows time to come out the kitchen and ask guests how their food is. If I could give more stars I would, exceptional

We found this little gem after trudging round Chester town centre for 2 hours looking for an eatery that served good wholesome food!! As all we came across were tapas/posh restaurants etc (we had our dog with us ;)) anyway finally found this pub and so glad! Atmosphere was good, staff were friendly, prices were amazing! We had fish, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce on a 2for£15 deal of a meal plus a drink (if you had a beer or wine it was +£1 bargain to say the least ;)) Monday to Friday before 5pm and also there was Happy Hour on drinks till 8pm!! At £3.40 any drink!!! So all in all a really good find - oh and the meal was lovely and nicely presented.

Service we great, the waitress was friendly. We ordered the curry, sausages and mash, side of veggies and cheesy garlic bread. The side of veggies was underwhelming. Found this place on Google maps whilst looking for somewhere to watch the rugby on a Saturday afternoon, and was not disappointed. Despite it being busy, we got great seats on a leather sofa upstairs on the mezzanine, facing a big screen, best seats in the house, perfect. Easy to overlook the upstairs area, so give it a check if it's busy upstairs. Used the App to order 2 for 1 cocktails and spirits to the table, happy days. Service was speedy, staff were all very friendly. I recommend the bags of chorizo crisps and the biggest bag of pork scratchings I've ever eaten 😁👍🏻🍺

Came here on Saturday with a group of friends for Bottomless Brunch. The service was exceptional, couldn't find a fault. The staff were helpful and friendly, as well as making sure we were topped up. Fodd was absolutely delicious. We definitely got our money's worth. Would highly recommend, you won't be disappointed. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

OK, i admit it, I was a Bottomless Brunch virgin (because I'm middle aged and we didn't have this when I was in my 20s 😅) Went with a wonderful crew of NHS colleagues, ranging from early 30s to *cough* mid 50s and there were groups of all ages in there, so I didn't feel out of place at all - first hurdle hurdled 😅👍🏻 Then the food was good, the drinks delicious, and the atmosphere friendly and vibrant. Highly recommend the Rumbungo but the non-alcoholic version was great too! (Yeah, I paced myself, like I said, I'm now middle-aged 😆) Special mention to the waitress, Emily, who was stellar 🙏🏻. Considering you paid once and it was kind of an all-inclusive experience for 2 hours - and therefore they could have been stingy with the drinks, or at the very least, reactive in terms of service - Emily was really proactive and ensured all her tables were consistently catered for, so we were never without a drink on the go, if not 2 😅 Honestly, the best place to pop my Bottomless Brunch cherry and I've recommended to my daughter and her boyfriend and their workplaces 👍🏻

The Bottomless Brunch here is second to none. Service is insane, didn't have an empty drink for less than a couple minutes. Staff didn't drop the ball once. Atmosphere is bouncing too. A great way to spend a few hours, and unbelievable value too! Thank you - if you can pass thanks to our server, 7th June 4pm, table of 2, sat by the slot machine x

Came here to do the brunch. Wasn't expecting it to be this good, mainly and probably unfairly due to the building former life. Almost all draught beers were available on the brunch, which is unusual as well as all the cocktails. We had a good go at completing the menu and left feeling triumphant! The staff were all really nice, service was quick considering it was a Friday and it was quite busy. Well worth the money

Hands down the best bottomless brunch me and partner have ever been to! The staff were fantastic. We said we wanted to try and have the entire cocktail menu and that's exactly what we did thanks to them. We didn't even have to ask for a drink, always bringing the next one before we ran out. The food was really good too. Pizza and boss benedict 👌 would 100% go back to this place again 👍 highly recommend. Thank you guys for such a brilliant experience and day out

Quality service from start to finish, we did the bottomless brunch and were not dissapointed. All of the staff were great but a special mention for our fearless server Emily who bravely approached us as the the inevitable emptying of each drink became a reality. Emily...we salute you xxx

Food was lovely but the service was awful. They didn’t come over to ask for our order once, we had to get up and go to the bar ourselves every single round after waiting an awkward amount of time without a single drink. The first few rounds we waited a while with empty drinks. We then started trying to order another once the next arrived due to the long wait, but were told every drink had to be finished before ordering another drink. I’ve been to lots of bottomless brunches and this is by far the worst I’ve been to in terms of how fast the drinks were flowing. I must say again though that the food was delicious

I arrived at 00:15 with 3 friends, bouncer said "we're not letting in any more in" despite Google and their own website advertising closing time as 2am. We then went back to our hotel rooms which are next door to Popcorn and heard them blasting music until after 02:00 disturbing our early sleep due us not being allowed into their bar. Bar had about 15 people inside, why stop 4 more from entering? Does Popcorn make their money from actually letting people into their bar to spend money? If you don't let people in after 00:15, turn your music off so they can get a good night's sleep.

Popped in for a drink on a lovely sunny afternoon. Staff were friendly and welcoming, good choice at the bar. Open plan and lots of light inside. They have a rear beer garden and seating out front. We sat out front and were able to people watch whilst enjoying a cold refreshing beer. 👍

went to use a bar tab with friends, the bar staff were very reluctant to let us use it and kept avoiding serving us. i was then kicked out by a bouncer and separated from my friends (i'm a drunk 18 year old girl) for "shoving a member of staff", who had actually just walked into me. i have had good experiences here and go often, so i was really upset by the way i was treated.

Wonderful trip on the river Dee today on the Mark Twain £10 for an adult. Really enjoyed seeing the city from the river looks very different. Very informative commentary. Very friendly staff. Would recommend going on one of the many boats, family tickets available.

We took the 30-minute ride along the River Dee. Was absolutely worth the money. It felt like the quickest 30-minutes. Lots to see on the way with an informative talk telling you all about what you can see on both sides of the river. Has a covered area just in case of wet weather. Would definitely go on again, and this time we would book the 2 hour ride.

We recently contacted Chester Boats regarding accessibility for a relative with mobility issues. They were extremely helpful stating that ramps could be used to reach the boat and that the mobility scooter could be left on the landing stage. There was a seating area as soon as you board the boat which is where we decided to sit and we had a lovely view of the river. The captain and staff (both female) were really helpful and efficient. The boat trip itself was very insightful, with a commentary guiding us along the 30 minute journey. Thank you for your assistance and for a lovely trip along the River Dee!

Walked up to the queue for the 12 noon and enjoyed a 30 minute boat ride along the River Dee. Plenty of seats. Smooth ride. A few steps to deal with (if you need to consider this) Toilets and bar available. £10 for an adult. I upgraded to a 24 hour Hop on Hop off city sightseeing bus for an additional £7.50.

Absolutely fantastic I will remember this trip for life. I took my wife and kids and little dog on the two hour iron bridge tour and it was very well put together freindly staff and boat captain. We sat on the top deck of the boat the mark twain as that's the area dogs are allowed but be wanted to sit there anyway. Downstairs is a bar area serving alcoholic and soft drinks that's fair priced we had a few ciders and it didn't break the bank. Tickets can be pre ordered from there web page this is what we did and they where expecting us. My son has low vision but still managed the boat safely. There's so much to see on the river and there's a audio guide on the boats radio telling all the facts of the area.

We hired for a surprise 60th and invited the all the family. There was only about 40-45 people so we originally hired the Mark Twain boat but as Lady Diana was not being used, they kindly upgraded it for us. Spent an hour going down the Dee before it turned around and it was another hour coming back. The scenery was beautiful, the staff were exceptional, and buffet was delicious. Highly recommend if you wanted to do something a bit different for a special occasion

Came to the Cabinet Club on my birthday night out after having gone to a few different bars and this was by far my favourite place of the entire night. All the drinks are classic movie themed and the entire bar feels like a secret jazzy speakeasy, the vibe was incredible. The staff were absolutely amazing, giving us all the information we needed to know about our drinks, and how they recommended we drink them! Each one was so unique and was honestly more of a work of art than a drink, it was insane. My boyfriend doesn’t drink so asked what they could offer in terms of mocktails and they provided one of the amazing themed drinks but alcohol free so he was absolutely made up to feel included, as not every bar will give so much effort in terms of alcohol free drinks. Our lovely bartender even brought a cake over to our table that no one had even asked for! They just saw my birthday badge and did everything they could to give me a wonderful experience, and it honestly really made my birthday night out. I’ll be recommending it to anyone in Chester looking for a fantastic and unique night out.

We arrived after the races and the bar was packed out. Great atmosphere and the service was second to none. I generally don’t do reviews but I need to highly commend Ash who went above and beyond to ensure our experience was top draw. Normally in busy situations like these staff drop their standards but Ash was cool as a cucumber, attention to detail and it was a pleasure to be served by her. Have to be brutally honest, visited this place last weekend after races and was quiet disappointed. The doorman was quite off putting on entry but we skipped past that and entered on in. The service wasn’t relatively fast but the drink we ordered was completely wrong. We asked for an exchange and the man behind the bar seemed almost offended, we weren’t trying to come across as difficult but apologise if we were. We were told we’d have to pay again for the original drink we ordered so I finished my pint and moved on. Despite my experience I can still see the value of this bar and hopefully in the future we’ll try again and hope for a different experience.

Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre is a vibrant hub of entertainment that transforms the picturesque park into a lively stage for seven weeks each summer. From July 19, visitors can immerse themselves in an array of theatrical performances, including the gripping "The Gangs of New York" and Oscar Wilde's delightful comedy "The Importance of Being Earnest," which opens on August 9.
fantastic performance of Pride and Prejudice. lovely environment and atmosphere. took our own wine and snacks. preordered pizza for interval. arrive early to get best seats.
Jeremy C — Google review
Lovely location and atmosphere. Staff were very friendly. They do provide cushion seats for the theatre but I would recommend bringing an extra blanket or cushion. There is nowhere to really lean back (back row and camping chairs as the exception) as you can only really lean back if its not full. We pre ordered pizzas but we found it was slightly pricey for you got (£14). However we did enjoy the show (Sherlock Holmes) and overall a nice experience!
Sara B — Google review
I guess it all depends on the play and the actors. But as a performance space it felt quite intimate with a circular stage extending into bottom area of seating. Only the 2 upper rows had cover. The seats are benches and you're issued foam mats with backs for comfort. Lots of people bring their own blankets, but coats etc advised esp for any evening performances - it is outdoors! You can order drinks and food (pizza) there or bring your own food (not booze). We had a great time watching the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a remained comedy work. I would go back to see other plays.

Self service washing machines & dryers in morrisons, did the job and very easy to do. The drum size was absolutely great and fit so much in. There’s two sets of them, 2x 20kg washing machines and dryers and 2x 9kg washing machines. I think it’s a little pricey with it being £11 for a big wash, but it does include powder. It’s an extra £2 for fabric softener. This is the only 24hr laundrette in the area i think which is brilliant as I am a night owl and get all my jobs done in the night so perfect for me!!
Yasmin F — Google review
Good service, used it when my washing machine broken down. Easy to use, the only one in the area (had to drive 15 min to get here 😅) great size of the drums, especially dryer. Upsides are only not all the machines in working order all the time. And gosh it’s popular! Even at 10 at night on Saturdays 🤪 have to hang around a lot, or come back the next time
Ekaterina F — Google review
Located outside the Morrisons Supermarket cafe on the left of the building. Very complex but logical single screen setup. Not so logical to press the separate start button after paying! Hickory's Smokehouse Chester is a lively and family-friendly barbecue spot located by the picturesque River Dee. The restaurant offers an authentic American BBQ experience with a variety of smoked and grilled meats, along with shakes and beers. The menu features a range of options from slow-cooked ribs to skewered meats, accompanied by sides, salads, and delectable desserts. Additionally, there are kid-friendly favorites like Mac n Cheese and popcorn chicken available.
Absolutely fantastic evening at Hickory's. The smokey BBQ smell from this place will draw you in and you won't be disappointed. Being a first time customer it's their policy to offer some free brisket and wow this was mind blowing and really was the star of the show. We were a table of three and after a short wait at the bar whilst they prepared an outside table, we were seated with a cold beer. James Collins - the restaurant manager did a top job helping us decide on what to eat. We all opted for the BBQ blowout which contained a selection of pretty much everything you could wish for including ribs, wings, chicken tenders, smoked sausage, beans and slaw plus of course that mouthwatering brisket. Such good value for under £20 each. James really did a fantastic job of looking after us and even gave us a tour of the smokehouse kitchen after our meal which was really interesting and makes you appreciate the effort these pit bosses put into their meat. The wings were the only slight let down but all in all it was an absolute pleasure to dine at Hickory's! Go! Now!

Stopped off for a bite to eat following a day out in Chester. A fabulous location. Pleasant and friendly staff. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu. We decided to try different things rather than ribs and steaks. Pleasantly surprised with the half chicken, Fajitas and additional nibbles. Well worth a visit.

A neat place to visit right on the river. Cool stuff all over the walls. Very fun if you've ever been to America. The food was decent. The ribs were a bit dry at times, but the jalapeno and cheese sausage was yummy. The shakes are so tasty and probably gave me diabetes. The server looked like she would rather be sorting trash in Birmingham than take our order. It took many attempts to get a fourth set of silverware and a glass for water. Had to pretty much pull in another server so we could finally get our bill. I would go again because I liked the atmosphere, but if the staff was similar again then I would cross it off the list.
Stephen H — Google review
First time going to hickorys smokehouse and was not disappointed. Granted I should have taken a picture of the food before dishing it out but I was distracted by the sheer size of it. I am a huge country fan and meat so no clue why I hadn't been up until now. Let me tell you I have tried beef brisket before but this was a thing of beauty. As first timers we weren't sure what to go for so my partner said let's just get the platter and we can try a few things. He is a big eater and the platter is apparently made for two but even we couldn't finish it so if there's 3 or even 4 of you then this would be great. I'm sure you could even get the leftovers to take away but we didn't ask. The service was great. We were seated straight away. Our server brought over bottled water and popcorn then swiftly back for our drinks and food order. We were sat and served out food within 20 minutes and this was 9pm on a Saturday night. We would have gone earlier but that was the next available sitting they had. The jalapeno and cheese sausage was amazing as well as the short ribs. The atmosphere was great as was the friendly staff. Will definitely be going back and would highly recommend it to any of the meat lovers out there.

Nice place, nice ambience. Part of a small chain of restaurants. I am looking at 7 key areas (for me anyway!). Hope this helps you when reading the review - 1. Welcome - 3/5. I was a walk-in on a Monday. Not busy at all. Standard welcome, not too friendly. 2. Ambience - 4/5. This is a BIG place which can seat up to 400 people across a number of different areas. Feels like a US restaurant (which is the intention) with upbeat country-ish music and decor. A nice mixed crowd here. 3. Staff knowledge - 4/5. Helpful. It was my first time going there and and I needed to understand some of the menu items. 4. Food taste - 3/5. This is typical American fare but done well with relatively nice flavours. 5. Service - 3/5. I was not always served by the person who was meant to be looking after me, otherwise they were attentive & helpful. 6. Wait times for food & drinks - 4/5. My starter (Shrimp Tostadas) arrived so quickly it must have already been made and the dessert was definitely premade (straight out of the freezer). 7. Value for money - 3/5. OK. I had a milkshake which had too much spray cream, two starters and a desert. £33 with a 7.5% tip/service charge.

Absolutely first class. As a solo female traveller I’m always wary of where I choose to eat but having read the good reviews, decided to take a chance. I’m so glad I did. The sirloin steak was incredible and all of the staff were so cheerful and friendly.

Upstairs At The Grill is a stylish split-level steakhouse and cocktail bar known for its warm atmosphere and locally sourced beef. After being closed during the pandemic, the venue announced its return with plans to transform its iconic home in the Olde Custom House Building. With a history of 22 years in Chester, founder Neil McDonnell turned it into a phenomenon that set new standards for bars in the area.
After reading reviews we knew we wanted to visit here during a recent trip to Chester and it did not disappoint. Booked for Sunday Lunch and the meal was fantastic, both myself and my partner agreed it was the best roast we'd ever eaten out. The beef was cooked to perfection, exactly how we had asked, and the cocktails were also so good. The desserts didn't disappoint either. The restaurant itself felt exclusive and high end without feeling unwelcoming. The staff were friendly and chatty. Highly recommend this gorgeous restaurant!

This was an amazing restaurant experience. Freya and Dan were absolutely faultless. Never had service like this before in a restaurant. They both gave fantastic recommendations on what to eat and we tried it all. Would rate this as one of my best restaurant experiences ever. The food was amazing. The service impeccable. If you like meat and your in Chester then this place is a no brainer.

We had a wonderful evening at Upstairs at the Grill. The food was absolutely delicious – full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and it really showed. The service was excellent too, could not fault it. The staff were friendly, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about the menu. It was clear that a lot of care went into making sure every detail was just right. Their attention to detail was second to none, and they made us feel completely looked after throughout the evening. It’s rare to find a restaurant that seems to nail every aspect but tonight Upstairs at the Grill did that. I can’t recommend it highly enough, and we’ll definitely be back soon!

Came here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday and couldn’t recommend it more. From start to finish, the whole experience and staff were fantastic, especially the blonde waitress and the gentleman host with the beard (sorry, I didn’t catch their names). The food was amazing and we can’t wait to return.

An absolutely fantastic experience. A truly remarkable dining experience, provided by a driven and tremendous team of staff. The additional treats my wife and I were given after we celebrated our marriage was out of this world. Providing a memory that will stay with us as we embark on our journey together. A true feast on the eyes and taste buds! Our close friends also emphasised their delight due to the dining experience. Outstanding value for money. A truly amazing restaurant where food quality, service and wow-factor are evoked and displayed simultaneously!

What a lovely meal! My boyfriend took me for my birthday and Erin (our server) took excellent care of us. It was our first time dining here and she was just full of knowledge. She talked us through the menu, gave us genuine recommendations and was just such a lovely, bubbly person! The steak was absolutely amazing, might be one of the nicest I have ever had!

Probably the best fillet steak I've ever had. We booked dinner here whilst in Chester for the weekend and so glad we did! From being seated right through to leaving, the service was amazing, and our waiter was really helpful and friendly. The chips were also amazing, and the bacon and cabbage dish was gorgeous. The steak was the best I've had. I'd not hesitate to recommend this place!

Came here for my birthday and did not disappoint, the staff were very friendly & showed us samples of the steak. Had a beautiful birthday card on our table, and the food was divine. You definitely get what you pay for here, can't to return for another occasion.

The Architect is a restaurant located in Chester, close to the city walls and Roodee racecourse. It opened in 2012 and is housed in the converted St Martin's Lodge, which was originally the home of architect Thomas Harrison. The restaurant offers modern British cuisine served in elegant Georgian rooms as well as a modern extension and outdoor terrace. The building overlooks two of Harrison's important commissions, Chester Castle and Grosvenor Bridge.
I cannot thank the Architect enough! We had one of my friend’s hen party dinners with you and we were so impressed. I dropped off a few decorations the day before and when we arrived, we were shown to our private room and everything was perfect! The staff went above and beyond. As always, the food and drinks were amazing and such great quality. Thank you for a perfect evening!

Have been wanting to try this place every time we stayed in Chester. Couldn't fault it such a lovely place and love the daily menu and home cooked dishes. Love the view to the racecourse, will definitely return. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the cheese pie both were delicious.

The food was delicious, ordered a beef roast dinner and it was up there with one of the best. The venue itself was lovely, and the staff were really friendly with great customer service. As the table was booked for my birthday, the team left a happy birthday card on the table, which was really special! Free parking at the venue was possible for some of us, but others had to pay in the parking lot across the road. Keep in mind if you are driving!

Opposite Chester Racecourse. Handy for parking in the racecourse. Quick light lunch, just had a couple of starters and a steak sandwich from their light bites menu served until 5:30. Again presented nicely and delicious. We have never had a bad meal here. Place is always immaculate. Private rooms available to hire. Love the posh toilets 👏👏Love the outdoor seating benches and the under cover area even on a wintry day. Always great service from smily, uniformed staff. 10/10 👜 handbag restaurant review for our lunch today.

What is not to like about this place, the food is outstanding, we have not had one bad experience yet, brilliant food, drink & friendly staff happy to help, also caters for Gluten Free. This is out 3rd visit to this establishment & we will be visiting one more time before we leave Chester, but will return again as soon as we can book another trip to the area. Thanks to the full team, great service & food. 👍

I had the pleasure of inviting my beloved friends whom introduced me to this place ( they are live in Chester and I am an Architect from Kurdistan region of Iraq) to have a delightful lunch with my family, all five members agrees that the best fish and chips we had in UK was in this restaurant; we’ve tried several in London , Liverpool and Manchester but nothing to beat this restaurants fish and chips , also had their chicken sort of pie looking dish , perfect as well , very nice interior and outdoor seating and garden , Salut to the team and polish lady who served us.

This is a great pub. Been there many times and it never fails to deliver. Lovely setting, wonderful outside in the summer overlooking the racecourse and cosy inside in the winter. Never had a meal here I didn’t like. There are other interesting eateries in Chester, but this is always a banker.

Restaurant
Sticky Walnut is an intimate and innovative Modern European restaurant located in Hoole, just outside Chester. The restaurant features rustic exposed bricks and wooden furniture, creating a relaxed yet professional ambiance. It is part of the Elite Bistros empire led by chef-turned-restaurateur Gary Usher, known for his passion for high-quality ingredients. The menu offers a variety of delicious food at reasonable prices, with options for both lunch and dinner, including several vegan choices.
Located in a lovely suburb of Chester. Greeted by a friendly waitress where we were seated in a quiet corner. Short bistro menu with a good variety of options. Decent wine selection at reasonable prices. Open kitchen with engaging colleagues. We started with the Crab fishcake and goats cheese salad. The cheese was on a sweet crumbly base. The crab cake had a red fish sauce garnished with chilli oil. Perfect starters. For mains, we both had Seabream with poached mussels in a tarragon sauce. We added carrots and chips. The fish was exceptional, filleted, and delicious. For wine, we chose a French Shiraz, red is always our preference even with fish. Great atmosphere with nice background music and very comfortable seating. Overall, we would rate this restaurant one of the best in Chester fair price for the quality of food and service. Thank you for such a lovely evening.
Nick H — Google review
We're not especially fans of American cuisine but as Sticky Walnut were doing it for their set menu this month we decided to give it another chance and expand our taste. It's still not my favourite but the frickles (deep fried, very lightly tempura battered pickles), barbequed Boston beans, and fried chicken with collared greens were all raised to level well beyond the norm. Very unusually for me, the puddings were the standout course; New York cheesecake was delicious, and Honeycomb ice cream served in a chilled glass with cracking good solidified chocolate sauce, absolutely fantastic. Service was lovely, very friendly and charming. Excellent value, £23 each for all three courses. I don't think you can do better in Chester.

First timer here. Small intimate restaurant. Absolutely delicious food. Presented so well that we felt like judges on Masterchef. Our server was lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Chris B — Google review
We visited Sticky Walnut last night after hearing great things about it from several people. The restaurant has a strong reputation, so we were really looking forward to the meal. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. The menu had just changed and was quite limited. For our main, we had little choice but to order the double steak for two — not ideal since my partner prefers rare and I like medium. The steak arrived cooked somewhere in between, but it was on the small side and definitely not enough for two people. The potatoes were under-seasoned and rather dry, and while the salad looked pretty and fresh, it felt more like a garnish than a proper side. For starters, we had the bread and butter, but the butter was simply smeared on the side of the plate and the presentation was disappointing for a restaurant with this kind of reputation. Service was mixed — it took about 15 minutes before we were served, though once Camilla came over, she was lovely and chased up our drinks promptly. The wine was on the expensive side but unfortunately not the best quality. We did raise our concerns, and to their credit, the staff were understanding. They offered complimentary drinks, which was appreciated and did make us feel better. However, even after the discount, the total came to around £100, and we still left hungry — we actually stopped for McDonald’s on the way home. Overall, while the service was friendly and they tried to make things right, the food and value for money just didn’t match the high expectations or the reputation

Easily. One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. I would put this up there with the forestside, Gilpin and the stamp house in Ambleside. Ordered the steak tartare and to round it off the sirloin sharing board (for two) just for me haha. My other half had the halibut This was honestly phenomenal!!! I will rush back. Staff are sooo sound as well. BLOODY LOVED IT ha

Attentive without being intrusive. We had a fantastic evening. Would highly recommend.

Very poor experience unfortunately. Food is great. Service was slow and the experience was poor. We were moved after being settled from a nice warm room, to a cold upstairs table with no atmosphere. Nice staff but need better planning needed.

Pub
The Old Harkers Arms is a red-brick Victorian warehouse located on the Shropshire Union Canal in Chester, Cheshire. It offers an innovative international menu and outside dining on a large terrace, making it a popular spot for cyclists, towpath users, and city dwellers alike. The interior features high ceilings and brick pillars that divide the space into user-friendly areas with unimpeded views of the canal.
Stunning pub. We booked a table here for dinner and it’s a good job we did because the main part of the pub was heaving. Thankfully, they have a small, quaint area for dining bookings, which is where we were sat. The food was unreal. I had the wild mushroom and tarragon soup for starters. It was packed full of flavour and had a perfect consistency. The black pudding sausage roll looked, and apparently tasted, incredible. The braised shoulder of lamb was cooked beautifully, falling apart with the slightest tug. The gravy was so rich and complimented the lamb well. The veg had a good crunch to it, and the carrots were sweet, which worked well with the gravy. It was my first time trying dauphinoise potatoes and I wasn’t a big fan. Were they unpleasant? No. Were they cooked badly? I don’t think so. I likely just don’t like dauphinoise potatoes. The sticky toffee pudding was nice and didn’t seem to be bought in, as desserts so often are. Service was very friendly throughout, although towards the end, as the main pub got packed, we struggled to get the attention of a waitress as they were occupied with that part of the pub. We can’t wait to go back here and sample whatever is on the menu next time we’re in Chester!

The food was decent. But I don't recommend the pulled beef croquettes. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was really nice and fast. Just expensive for the amount you get. But honestly lovely experience and would go again.

"An Absolute Gem - 5 Stars!"Stepping into The Old Harkers Arms feels like a warm hug, and our recent visit for a pub meal was nothing short of perfection. From start to finish, this place truly deserves every one of its five stars. The service was impeccable. We were greeted with genuine smiles and shown to our table promptly. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to offer recommendations. The staff's passion for their work is palpable, creating a wonderfully welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.I went for the bacon chop and my fiancee had the fish and chips and both where greatly enjoyed. To top it all off, I enjoyed a pint of the local IPA. It was a superb choice, crisp and hoppy with a refreshing finish that perfectly complemented my meal. It’s clear they take their beer selection as seriously as their food. The Old Harkers Arms isn't just a pub; it's a quintessential British dining experience. The combination of fantastic food, excellent service, and a truly great pint makes it a must-visit. We'll be back again and again!

Chester Racecourse, established in 1539, holds the title of being the oldest racecourse still in operation globally. The one-mile course attracts visitors from around the world to witness horses navigating its tight turns. Over time, the racecourse has expanded to include various facilities such as a restaurant serving delectable treats and an extensive wine collection. With over 15 race meets each season between May and September, it's a perfect family day out or a fun-filled spectacle with friends.
We had such a lovely time in the gin garden. The service was great. The food was decent and the atmosphere was buzzing. It was too busy to get to the actual racecourse but we did see it in the giant screens. And enjoyed seeing each horse before the races. Great day out.

Amazing experience at the White Horse at the weekend (31st May 2025) for a hospitality experience. Summer was our waitress for the day and she was so attentive literally nothing was too much trouble. She was on it with drinks orders and even topping up our ice and water as it was a warm day. She definitely deserves some recognition as this level of service for her age is normally non existent. She has definitely made us want to visit again. Food was delicious too, excellent!

Rip-off Chester. My wife and I visited last Friday, as I needed to tick the course off. The racing was nothing special, 3 class 4 races and 5 class 5 races. When I checked the ticket prices 2 weeks before the meeting I couldn't believe that they were asking £32 for a Tattersalls ticket and £17 for the Roodee enclosure (silver ring). Although excessive I was going to get the Tatts tickets. However, when I came to book them a few days later(10 days prior to the meeting) the prices had increased to £39 and £20. Apparently they operate dynamic pricing. What a joke! There was no way I was going to pay £39 each for rubbish racing. I'm not sure I've ever paid that for Group 1 meetings before, other than Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham festival. We, therefore, bought tickets for the Roodee enclosure (well done Chester, you just lost yourselves £24 - £40 instead of £64). Once in the course you are then met with your next rip off, £5 for a racecard - why? Followed by the usual racecourse beer prices plus a bit more as it's Chester, £6.45 to £7.95 for a pint. If you want a cup of tea it's £3.50. Looking across to Tatts I couldn't see any extra facilities that would have justified paying an additional £19 per ticket. This racecourse really does have serious delusions of grandeur. Ascot it is not! Bearing in mind the view from the road and the fact that there is a pub (The Architect) with a huge garden a few yards away, I would suggest saving your entrance fee and having a beer in the pub. By the way the photos that I have posted are from a long way along the road on the way to the Little Roodee car park (recommended - £5 for 6 hours). You can get a far better view of the course and big screen just up the road. I, for one, am certainly glad that I never have to return to this course again.

Lovely welcome and easy check in. Our room was gorgeous. Modern, great layout and beautifully cleaned . Large bathroom, big bed, tea, hot chocolate and a cafetiere with proper ground coffee! A comfortable and quiet sleep and a fabulous breakfast included the next morning. Great free parking on site. Set on the river with easy access to river, town and walls. Perfect!

The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the surrounding area. Short walk into Chester center is a bonus as city parking is expensive. The service we received during our stay within the pub area was exemplary. Nothing was to much and the staff were very chatty and made us feel very welcome. Being right on the river made it for a lovely view whilst dining. Be aware during nice weather this property is a somewhat local favourite so does get very busy at times. We had food during our stay both nights. The young girl that served us our Sunday lunch was fantastic. Very friendly and was interested about how out day had gone. Only a few things to note that stood out during our stay, there is no WIFI in the rooms themselves and there was no room safe. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean and tidy. Good pressure on the shower and the shower enclosure was very big a spacious.

One of my favourite places. Love the hotel and the setting. Food is very good - fish and chips are the best ever. We were lucky to have been bought a wine tasting experience with some accompanying tasting treats, and from the moment we arrived to the second we left we throughly enjoyed it. We had the pleasure of Haley explaining to us the different wine selections and taste bits. She made us smile and was not intrusive, but had the right blend of knowledge and enthusiasm that made our visit memorable. The food was great but the wines were better, which meant we even bought a few bottles. We fully recommend a visit.

It's been a few years, but we came back for our first wedding anniversary last week and it was still fantastic. We had Olivia guide us through the Finest Italian Wine experience, we learned loads and the pairing suggestions were great. She was really friendly, knowledgeable and helped us have such a good evening! The quality of the food was up there with the wine, we really felt like we were getting the best experience possible! We left with a few bottles of our favourites too which was nice. Will definitely have to return sooner next time!!

Revolution Chester is a unique chain bar offering a diverse global menu of classic comfort foods and nightly happy hours. The venue hosts iconic boozy brunches on Fridays and Saturdays, featuring dishes like fried chicken and bacon waffles, avocado and poached eggs on toast, or the full brunch grill. Additionally, the bar's Gin Academy provides an interactive experience with flavor combinations, bartender tips, games, snacks, and gin tasting classes. Guests can also enjoy watching the chefs at work while dining.
I came here for an early evening meal, the place was quiet. It's nice to see the chef at work, from your table. There's a counter bell for when a order is ready; I suppose this can get a bit of annoying when it's packed. I decided to go for an 8oz steak, with rocket salad & frites; the peppercorn sauce was extra. I had it well done, it was just right; although there weren't many frites. So I decided to have a desert; a twist on the apple pie them, with an apple pie pancake. This came with icecream on top, and some kind of sweet sauce.

Connor & Lauren have been amazing with myself and my partner. Having banter with us and waiting at our table, amazing experience! Will definitely be coming back just for the hosts, never mind the gorgeous drinks.... not the chilli shot though🤣🤣🤣

We were visiting for an afternoon tea experience that we’d received from Virgin Experience Days. Completely different to your typical afternoon tea, but certainly very filling and tasted great! Wonderful staff, very accommodating. Paul was a pleasure to deal with and super friendly.

went for bottomless brunch and it was so lovely , food was 10/10 and so was the service. Lauren was exceptional so good always checking up on us , such a lovely girl made our night so much better 10/10 service from her! Also if you’re vegan the vegan brunch was so good

Lovely ambience, tasty food, but slow service. We had too much break after each meal (starters, mains and dessert) and eventually we had to cancel our dessert order. So a 3star rating would do it for me. Hopefully the next time I visit, things would be faster.

Hanky Panky Pancakes in Chester is a casual and laid-back spot that has been serving up delicious pancakes since 2011. This family-owned cafe offers a wide variety of sweet, savory, and even alcoholic pancakes, known as pantails. The menu features homemade recipes with the option for customization to cater to every pancake lover's preferences.
Best pancakes about!! My girlfriend and I have been here an unhealthy amount of times, worth it! The staff are friendly, prices decent and atmosphere lovely. The lady, who I assume is the owner, is lovely and welcoming. We usually come here when we fancy pancakes but also had the masala dosa which is amazing! They also have a good selection of drinks. The toilets are spotless too, which I always appreciate in a busy business.

Happy to keep going back, the staff are welcoming, the service efficient. This is a popular place and can get very busy, so it's advisable to book. I've been visiting regularly with my son and his cousins since they were toddlers, so that's getting on for ten years now. There is no need for me to repeat that the pancakes are superb. I would like to highlight the coffee, which is a delicious blend, the latte is something special.

This is such a quirky little hidden treasure to come and eat. The lady who welcomed us was so polite and sweet. Love all the little touches. I had an omelette and a pot of tea. The omelette was delicious and I tried my partners pancake with bacon and syrup and that was gorgeous. Reasonable prices and will definitely be coming back again

First time visit, as a pancake day treat for the Grandkids. Friendly greeting with an attempt at a 1950s American diner theme. What initially looks like a comprehensive menu soon turns out to be a bit restricted, not much in the way of savoury on offer but plenty of sugar loaded toppings to be had for the kids. As it was pancake day they were very busy but did not skimp on customer service. At no time did we feel rushed to leave the table to ease the queue outside their doors, well done on that 👏 As a treat, I can forgive the price but return visits will be few and far between at over £10 a head for a pancake and drink.
Brain G — Google review
Visited today, didn’t book, would recommend, however we were very quickly accommodated and welcomed . Busy vibe, but attentive and best pancakes you have ever tasted! I mentioned it was my daughter’s birthday and her pancake arrived with a candle so we sung happy birthday! Such a nice touch. We will be back! Thank you HP.

We came here for breakfast one morning. The staff were lovely and welcome as soon as we walked in. Ask and brought over a highchair without us having to ask. They’ve a dedicated vegan section on the menu which is great! Kids get a free pancake and then you just pay for topping. I went for the banana blue I think it was called which was nice, I also had a smoothie which was good too. My husband really enjoyed his pancake too. We planned to return but unfortunately they were shut that day! Would return and recommend.
Jessica S — Google review
The Indian omelette is worth visiting this restaurant for. The interior is a vibe with a blend of Indian and chic colours, pictures and plants. The service is always extremely helpful and you're always greeted with a smile! Would recommend the green coriander chutney with the Indian omelette too, possibly one of my fave things to get here. The sweet breakfasts are also yummy with the ability to change my order easily (lactose allergy but I wanted to try a range of flavours) and the pancakes look great. I've had a range of things off the menu and would certainly take visitors with me when returning.
Sortie S — Google review
Wow!!! Extremely happy we decided to come here for lunch. Everything was super delicious. Big menu and everything is customisable. We got the "home on the range" (theres more bacon between the 2 pancakes!) and the "cheesy grin" plus a mint tea. Highly recommend the cheesy grin if you like jalapeños, though both were excellent.

Nestled in the historic Gamul House, The Brewery Tap is a charming pub that offers a wide array of beers including those from Chester's own brewery and local guest ales. The establishment also serves traditional ciders and seasonal dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. What sets this place apart is its sustainable approach - the brewery's used grains are repurposed as feed for their pigs, which in turn provide delicious pork for the pub.
What a place! Great atmosphere, great beer on offer and an incredibly unique place to have a pint or two! There was an allocated area for dining (we didn’t get the chance to eat here on our visit), and a decent amount of tables/chairs in the bar area. Service was excellent throughout the visit, definitely coming back here for a few beers!

Lovely craft beer pub in a converted historical building with high ceiling and tapestries. Great selection of cask and keg beers. Some are even brewed on premises. Staff are very knowledgeable. You need to climb stairs to enter so not great for those with disabilities. We ate there and they have a Monday to Thursday menu with great prices not to mention the choice of hearty options. Toilets at the back were very clean. Highly recommended.

Excellent pub, which has a full range of ales by Spitting Feathers and other breweries, but is also in a stunning historical building too. It's located upstairs on the first floor, so you have to go up the steep stairs to reach it the pub - the signage at the bottom perhaps could be clearer.

Our first visit on. Thursday evening. Great selection of beers. They also had an offer of two courses for £20. Often with these offers you get deduced quantities. Not here - I had a great fish platter, two large head on prawns, smoked mackerel, smoked salmon with salad followed by fish and chips. Both courses were substantial and excellently cooked and presented. Excellent service by all. Definitely deserves its five star rating.

A Perfect Start to Our Chester Experience This was the first pub we visited in Chester, and it set the tone for a fantastic trip. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we absolutely loved how it looked—charming, cozy, and full of character. The barman was incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome from the start. The overall experience was great, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin our time in Chester. Highly recommend!

Visiting for the first time and despite it being crazy busy ,particularly with the Liverpool game on! All of the lads serving behind the bar were fab. Polite and efficient, really impressed with their service! We are new to the Chester night life but the staff that served me here have been the best I've met so far this weekend!. Would visit again.

What a lovely, historic pub that’s as interesting inside as on the outside. The Bear and Billet has a great selection of craft beers on offer and bar staff that clearly know their beers. The two barmen on during this afternoons visit were super friendly and helpful and brought my wife’s tea to our table on the first floor, to save us waiting. Food was dropped off to tables adjacent to us and looked great, so we’ll be ordering a meal on our next visit.

With a good array of cask ales the art of pouring needs a little direction. Glass cleanliness is the start of a good ale and sparklers should be on imho. Friendly, helpful staff in abundance. Olde worldy establishment with CAMRA discount to members. Right on the river Dee by bridge street makes this an ideal place for a beer, wine, soft drink and food. A place to visit

Popped into here because of friendly dog reviews as I have my dog with me on a weekend stay in Chester. Very welcoming walking through the door, very polite barman did not catch his name. The restaurant has garnered praise for its extensive selection and delicious offerings. While it caters well to carnivores with ample chicken options, vegetarians and pescatarians may find the choices somewhat limited.
lovely food, service was very nice and prompt, tables where clean and plates cleared quickly. Some dishes weren’t available but that didn’t impact the experience at all, still 50/60 still available, food stations were also kept clean soo overall very nice experience. Panda Mami Chester World Buffet all you can eat. Great for families. Located close to the Roman amphitheatre. £14.99 each. Lots of uniformed staff cleaning tables and clearing up ring away if anything dropped on the floor by the buffet trays. Noticed if the containers were nearly empty they bought out a trolley with a new container of food and not just refill the old ones 👏👏👏 Depends if you like a buffet or not. All looked delicious and kids enjoyed the ice cream and sweets stand 😁. We tried a variety of foods and all tasted delicious. 8/10 👜 handbag restaurant review today. Smiley face emoji is hiding me filming 🤣
Ladies S — Google review
I recently visited Panda Mami Asian Buffet, and honestly, it was a solid experience that I’d recommend to anyone craving a wide range of Asian flavors. First off, the selection was impressive. The sushi was surprisingly decent for a buffet (not gourmet, but fresh enough), and the seafood section had crab legs on weekends, which was a nice treat. The ambiance was casual but clean. It’s not a fancy place, but the dining area was tidy, and plates were cleared quickly by attentive staff. Service was efficient, though not overly chatty — which is fine at a buffet. The price felt fair, around $20–25 per person for dinner, depending on the day. For the sheer variety, I felt like I got my money’s worth. Why not five stars? A couple of the hot dishes, like the sweet & sour chicken, were a bit soggy, and the dessert section was pretty basic (mostly supermarket-style cakes and soft-serve ice cream). But overall, the experience was tasty, satisfying, and left me wanting to come back. If you’re looking for a relaxed, no-fuss place to overload on sushi, dumplings, and your favorite Asian comfort foods, Panda Mami is definitely worth a try.

A Feast to Remember at Panda Mami Chester! 🍤🍰 We recently visited Panda Mami Chinese Buffet in Chester with a big appetite and an even bigger group — and we left absolutely stuffed and smiling! Originally booked for 10 people, we had a last-minute surge to 17, and guess what? The amazing staff didn't bat an eyelid. They sorted us out with a warm welcome and plenty of space, all with friendly smiles and zero stress. Talk about being accommodating! Now, let's talk food — and lots of it. The food trays were constantly refilled with fresh, hot options so no one missed out, no matter how many times we went back for seconds. The live cooking station was a highlight — steak, fish, and seafood cooked right in front of you. The chefs were quick, friendly, and knew exactly what they were doing. There was something for everyone, even the kids — from crispy starters to rich mains and dreamy desserts. We loved the variety and, more importantly, the flavours were spot on! It's the kind of place where you keep saying, "Just one more bite"... The atmosphere was lively but relaxed, and everything was clean and inviting. Bonus points for the nearby parking at the shopping centre (just a small fee), which made logistics easy even with a big group. Now, for the one tiny downside: the pina colada. Sadly, it was the only item that didn’t hit the mark — lacking that punch of fresh pineapple you expect. But honestly, with everything else being so good, we barely noticed. If you’re in Chester and craving a delicious, family-friendly buffet with fantastic service, Panda Mami is the place to be. We’ll definitely be back — and probably with even more people next time!😀

Super busy for mid week. We were very fortunate to get a table. We hadn't booked as it was a last minute decision. As an all you can eat it was very good from sushi to Indian to Chinese and a very good selection of sweets. Excellent quality we will definitely be returning. Cost was around £24 each which is slightly more than you pay for at lunch. Tandoori chicken was excellent as was the Thia Beef and the salt and pepper chips. Staff were really nice and sociable. Would definitely recommend if your in the Chester locality. We were over full and slepted well after our meal at Panda Mami. Many thanks to all the staff who looked after us.
Michael C — Google review
I wouldn’t come here again, the food wasn’t amazing, bland options and very chewy food that couldn’t be enjoyed or swallowed for that matter. I was expecting to have several food options such as Sushi and other meats but when we arrived at 12pm there wasn’t any available, just standard rice, noodles, chicken, chips and pizza, there was also a chocolate fountain too but it wasn’t turned on. Although, the food was disappointing, the staff were attentive and very friendly. There was a man that was sat next to my partner and I that made me uncomfortable as he kept staring at me whilst I was eating, this is not Panda Mami’s fault but it definitely dampened the mood. It’s unfortunate that the photos and menu did not live up to the quality of the food I saw today. It would have been a much better experience if they had the options available.

This a great place for food or just a coffee. We had a coffee break there and then went back for dinner as the staff are so delightful, friendly and welcoming coupled efficient service. Going back for dinner was a perfect choice as the quality of the food is superb. We had the sausages and mash which was amazing, homemade sausages combined with mash as smooth as silk. Don't miss it.

We stopped by to try a few small plates – the Beetroot Hummus, Patatas Bravas, and the Pulled Pork Cheesy Birria Tacos – all absolutely delicious with generous portion sizes. For mains, we had the Char-grilled Souvlaki Chicken Burger, which looked great but was a bit on the bland side for our taste. That said, the customer service was excellent – friendly and attentive throughout. Overall, it's a great pub with a solid menu full of tempting options. We’ll definitely be back to try more!

We went to telfords warehouse twice on a 2 night trip to chester. 1st night, Sunday, we saw 2 live singers. 2nd night, Monday, we did the quiz. Both very good. Clientele is mainly young, it's right next to student accommodation. It is also on the canal and has quite a lot of outdoor tables which we also made use of. Great atmosphere, helpful staff. Would recommend.

Absolutely delightful pub and setting, we stopped off after a short walk on the canal. As my daughter loves live music they let us stay for a little while to little while and listen to it. We are very grateful to them, thank you. Is probably more catered to the hipster student types but if I was 15-20 years younger I would have loved it there. Excellent.

Food wasn’t great, especially for the first price. Generally really like this pub and they have a good pub quiz on a Monday but our last visit we felt the service was really poor. We had an incident and wanted to discuss this with the staff but basically wasn’t given the chance to talk, kept getting spoken over and told we were wrong basically. It’s a shame because it has got a nice vibe in there.

The tall gent with the glasses who I'm assuming is in some kind of management capacity...wow. If I had ever treated a guest or a colleague like that I would be ashamed. Good job.... Edited this review as in hindsight, the lady who was serving on her own was lovely, working really hard but bubbly and helpful. And the chef who brought our food out was really nice too - and the food was ace. These two were lovely and clearly cared so not everyone should be impacted by that gents behaviour.

My family went for a 21st Birthday meal at a steakhouse in Chester, after this we were going to head home but decided to go for one drink before heading home, we look around and found this bar (this was Saturday 12/07/25) upon arrival it was quiet and a lady went to serve me straight away, I apologised and stated ‘we weren’t ready to order yet as we were still coming in and I hadn’t got everyone’s drinks order yet, there was 8 of us in total. While discussing with the Mrs what she’d like, a short haired guy with glasses who worked there approached our daughters boyfriend and stated “you look worse for wear, I’m not serving you”, this lads name was Anthony who’s a very nice shy guy who had had a coke with his meal, I ignored the comment from the guy and went to get drinks, this was a different gentleman and he started to serve me but with a glance and the question, “are you with these guys” I stated yes, he then refused to serve me, I questioned and they stated that “we were all too drunk” the most anyone of us had had was two drinks with our meal, I’d had one shandy as I was driving, I laughed and explained all this but was still refused. I agree that if people are too drunk then the bar staff are well within their right to refuse service but this is usually judged by some action not an assumption, like smashing things, falling over or being loud, which none of us were, Anthony was just bopping his head to the tune that was playing and that was enough for your staff to gauge we were all too drunk when in actual fact, every single one of us was legal to drive. It was empty inside, i couldn’t believe the rudeness and it put a downer on the night, we left and decided to go home with no drink. But I’m not letting things like this lie, I think the staff were completely out of order and than they wanted an early night and the easiest way to do that was to refuse people, I believe that every worker should be held accountable for their actions, we won’t be coming back but thought it only fair to let the owner know what their staff are up to.

The place is really nice and cozy. The atmosphere is pretty cool. It's a good place to spend some time in. The staff are very friendly and the service was really good. We got a burger and a hotdog and drinks. The drinks are really nice and refreshing. Burger was huge and juicy. Really enjoyed the food.

Fun little place with good food. Went on a Wednesday when there is 2-4-1 on the burgers. Great taste. I had the simple cheeseburger but they managed to make it taste better than what you'd expect. The pic shows the Pulled Pork one.

I dined here on the 21/8 and I thought it was great! The food was extremely timely and to an excellent level. The menu is easy to read and covers most bases bases for anyone walking through the door. I had the burnt end brisket balls to start which were great, well cooked and hardly any gristle which brisket is well known for, then I chose the funky chicken burger which I thoroughly enjoyed until I reached the food wall :) but it was the service that stood out for me, really efficient but polite and attentive. I would certainly eat here again. See photos.

Ordered via Uber, such an amazing place, all burgers were brilliant, we tried four, each one was better than the other. Stack burger and southern fried was just brilliant. Screaming burger was fun to try, literally spicy nd nice

Their burger was so tasty and delicious and one of my top favourite restaurants in Chester. I had SFC burger and next day I went there again to try another but so so unfortunate. They closed. Anyway thank you guys for serving delicious food. Cheers!

Food quality was good. Service and seating area is good. Many nice places to walk nearby. Need to improve coffee size. Compared to even branded restaurants the cup size is very small.

Pretty sure I’ve been here before! Great food and plenty to choose from for both meaty and veggie. Recommend the cheesy chilli fries and the kid’s peanut butter milkshake. Yum.

Storyhouse is a versatile venue in Chester, England, offering a library, theatre, cinema, and cultural events alongside a modern restaurant. It's the cultural and creative heart of Chester with an array of entertainment options for children. The multi-award-winning 37m theatre hosts family-friendly films while the sprawling library features special spaces like The Den and The Storytelling Room filled with kids' favorite books. Additionally, Storyhouse offers regular arts and crafts activities as well as storytelling sessions for kids.
I love Storyhouse as a customer who uses the cafe regularly (the food is delicious and staff friendly!), the library with my daughter and theatre/cinema. I also hold most of my in-person client meetings there as a wedding photographer and just a few weeks ago I had the honour of photographing the first marriage at The Storyhouse! It was incredible. They got married the cinema and had their reception upstairs in the Garret Bar and adjoining theatre. The staff were so attentive and on the ball and everything ran very smoothly on the day. They also allowed me to visit in advance to scope out the lighting and space ahead of Rebecca and Dylan's wedding day. From a photography point of view the building is very intriguing and provides so many opportunities for creative portraits, with lots of angles and natural light as well as famous quotes dotted around. Couples who opt to have their wedding at the Storyhouse can also have their names in lights above the entrance. If you're looking for a unique, non-traditional venue to host your wedding then this could be the place!

Been my favourite place to come to for a long time, good coffee, free chargers, if you get a library card you can use their computers for free for an hour which is amazing! Also so many good books, been to a few shows there and they always blow me away, the performers are amazing. Plus so many activities and events happening all the time! Never been to one myself but i’ve heard from friends that they are really good for meeting new people and for a general good time. Highly recommend!!

Our second experience visiting the Storyhouse, seeing the comedian Josh Jones on 19/09/25. The Storyhouse is a great venue with multiple floors, bars and a large library. Today we were in the Garret Theatre, a smaller theatre than the others but can still hold many people. There is a ok sized bar just before you enter, but the poor member of staff was on her own under a lot of pressure with a long line. There was no visibly displayed menu so she has to tell numerous people what was available. The Kitchen has lots of available seating. I ordered a hot chocolate after our show ended and the staff were nice, visibly displayed menus. Every table has a QR code to order online and then a pickup point is very clearly signed on the end of the bar. The hot chocolate was great and decently priced. Parking is available down the road at New Market.

AVOID the Kitchen! Storyhouse is an amazing place. Unfortunately the kitcgen offers the most inefficient service ever. It took them 50 minutes to bring us 2x kids meal and 2x paninis, on a relatively busy Sunday. Food is okay, but the srrvice and the cleanliness is far from good standards.

Go here a lot for shows but last week I noticed the downstairs toilets have become ‘gender neutral’ personally I felt uncomfortable so I didn’t go to the loo and my husband who went later didn’t go either as there were 3 women in there so he felt awkward. I don’t want to pee in front of other men. If there was 1 toilet fine but it’s 3 cubicles in a small space - not for me thanks

I photographed a wedding at Storyhouse back in April and WOW! What a place. The staff were incredible at making Becky & John's wedding day extra special. The couple had quite an alternative day, featuring a humanist ceremony in the theatre space, stormtroopers, and a Mario Kart tournament on the big screen. They then had the party in the same room in with a live band in the evening. Everything ran smoothly, and the staff could not have been more helpful. I would highly recommend this place for a non-traditional wedding celebration. The building is also an amazing community space, with theatre, library, cinema, cafe and more.... and I can't wait to come back. I also enjoyed a coffee and cake in the cafe - the vegan options were fantastic. The also got to partake in the wedding food and it was sooo good! Here are a few photo highlights of their day. Perched on the fifth floor of a hotel, Brasserie Abode offers a serene setting for indulging in their delightful Afternoon Tea while taking in breathtaking panoramic views of the Welsh hills and Chester Racecourse. The stylish and laid-back environment, coupled with exceptional customer service, makes it an ideal spot to unwind. Their Afternoon Tea spread features an array of delectable sweets and savories.
Attended with group of 11 for a birthday afternoon tea. A slight mix up with time, but staff were able to speak to chef and sort this with no issues. Great selection of sandwiches, cakes, scones and plentiful enough for us to take away for our suppers. Lovely restaurant with beautiful views over racecourse.

Plentiful afternoon tea in elegant surroundings. Great views! Asked as soon as we arrived if we'd like still or sparkling water (money spinner). Opted for Tap water. Lovely sandwiches and cakes. The scones were disappointing, overcooked and too hard-replaced on asking with fresh. £43 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Pleasant, efficient staff.
Carol G — Google review
The place itself is quite nice. We went for drinks. I asked for two different whiskies, one of which the staff hadn't heard of despite it being on the menu. For two large reds, a double and a single Johnnie Walker, it was £47! But to add insult to injury, they added on a 10% tip! Our table was next to the bar so what was done to warrant it? I know they will say we can ask to take it off but they know customers don't want to have the conversation so it actually cost over £50. I'd love the business to justify the tip. We are not in the USA and if they aren't paying their staff enough then that's on them. It's not my responsibility to pay the staff. I will not be back.

We visited Abode Chester on Saturday 22nd February. Food was good! Location was lovely. However, the service was absolutely terrible considering it was a group paying over £300. We ordered Afternoon Tea which was supposed to come with free refillable hot drinks, however not once did anybody come over to see if we wanted extra refreshments, we had to go up and chase, we had already been there 30/40 minutes at this point. Again with standard drinks, we had to go up, then eventually someone would come over and ask us. Additionally, there was not enough cutlery or plates, despite booking the table with the amount of people attending in advance. This is really disappointing as the restaurant was not busy, and there was more than enough staff by the looks of it. We were just left. This is not what I would expect from this type of establishment. Staff did not greet us on arrival, and I feel they were quite hostile, again, for this type of establishment, this is not what you would expect. We were also overcharged as the menu stated £25pp, instead we were charged over £26pp. We also paid a service charge of around £30 which I did not realise at the time otherwise, I would’ve requested for this to be removed as the service was awful. After paying over £300 for mediocre food and appalling service, we could’ve gone to Grosvenor Pulford for similar, but incredible service! I never leave reviews however, this has truly been one of the worst experiences that not just me, but the whole group experienced. Unfortunately, due to the service we will not be coming back again.

Absolutely terrible meal, from start to finish. Bad food, but even worse service. The manager was also terrible and I deeply regret spending my time and money on the restaurant. Would never return.
Victoria — Google review
Had afternoon tea, food ok but no facilities to bring home what you don't eat and it's to expensive to waste at £26pp. Staff very clumsy, knocked over milk and was going to walk away from cleaning it up and did not bring any more. They eggnored any contact once the food was served for drinks refill.
Geoff H — Google review
High expectations. Let down. Family Christmas meal was really poor in the end. Poor greeting from the staff. Service was confused and poor. Slow to do anything, no knowledge of the menu, no knowledge of our pre booked booking and what was included. Drinks were poor. Food was average. Wouldn’t recommend, and you pay a pretty penny to top it all off..

The Oakfield, situated within Chester Zoo, is a must-visit eatery that offers a diverse selection of food and beverages. This contemporary pub boasts an exceptional ambiance and friendly staff. The menu features locally sourced dishes alongside a variety of carefully chosen beers, wines, and spirits. Additionally, patrons can indulge in afternoon tea with or without prosecco, catering to dietary preferences such as gluten-free and vegan options.
Visited near Christmas in an afternoon for lunch. The food was really nice - and a little bit more unusual for what you'd normally expect from a 'tourist attraction' type place! The staff were friendly and helpful with assisting with a gluten intolerance that one of our party has. Would definitely recommend for if you are visiting Chester Zoo!

Mine and my wife's 1st year wedding anniversary today 25-04-25, when I booked the table I told them we got married here a year ago, when we arrived we got a complimentary glass of champagne each and a lovely card. We also got a lovely plate of the team congratulating us. Wonderful team, definitely making this a yearly anniversary for us. Thank you. Also food was amazing, cooked to perfection and hostess was fantastic and everyone made us feel 🤗 very welcome

Lovely menu, cosy atmosphere and amazing service in the middle of the zoo! Fish & chips is humongous)) lovely desserts too. A nice surprise given its location. Definitely recommend
Olha M — Google review
The food you can pick up anywhere at Chester Zoo is usually pretty good. However, the food at the Oakfield is excellent. It's probably best described as "pub food", but taken to another level. Really tasty, well presented and served quickly too. Even at peak times, the food seemed to come out fast, which is an added benefit if you're trying to see the whole zoo and don't want to 'waste time' in a restaurant. There was a range of options available, from a burger, fish and chips, to slightly more exotic tacos and similar dishes. Coupled with a wide range of drinks, you could spend some time in here and completely forget that you were in a major tourist attraction at the same time. You do need a zoo ticket to visit, so even if you book a table, you'll need to either be a zoo member, or already have a ticket for the day. There's no way around this. One slight downside was, when asked how a particular dish would be made gluten free, as per the menu options, our server replied "don't know" and made no offer to go find out. Didn't fill me with confidence, so I'm opted for something safer. All that said - well worth a visit.
Alastair S — Google review
You absolutely need to reserve a table for The Oakfield, and upon arrival, you can see why. The building and its location within the zoo are stunning and promise a real treat. Sadly, the promise of the setting wasn't met by the experience. The food itself was fine – there was nothing to complain about, but it wasn't memorable or special either. It did the job, but didn't feel like it matched the grandeur of the surroundings. The most disappointing aspect by far was the service, which was severely lacking. Despite seeing at least four staff members on the floor, they seemed completely inattentive and disorganised. Our main courses were brought to the table before our drinks had even arrived, and we had to prompt the server to bring them over. When it came to ordering pudding, we were simply ignored. The staff avoided eye contact, seeming preoccupied with polishing cutlery and talking amongst themselves. It felt like we were an inconvenience. Overall, the impression was of a young and inexperienced team with no real focus on service delivery, which resulted in a thoroughly lacklustre and frustrating meal.

A beautiful, old school, red brick pub/restaurant inside a zoo! What's not to like! Super friendly staff, fabulous food and we sat in front of the open fire before we ate! Definitely worth a visit whether you are at the zoo or not, as there is separate access!

We were here for my wife's birthday, as she loves the zoo and so decided to book into the oakfield for an early dinner. It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The food and drinks all arrived very promptly and the food was very well presented. It was a great afternoon break before continuing around the zoo. We will definitely book to go again. Thanks to the staff.

Guests can indulge in a diverse array of cocktails, from timeless classics to innovative fizzy concoctions inspired by global flavors. The menu is thoughtfully updated for special occasions and seasonal delights, ensuring there's something for everyone to savor.
Brilliant place, booked for a birthday bottomless brunch the festive menu in the day time at 1.30pm- venue is really busy at this time, it is fully booked and only had choice of one booth left which we had no choice to take, would of loved to sit where the pretty photogenic parts are but its not the end of the world for us. Food is delicious and came quite quickly. The servers were amazing with restocking our cocktails, half way through our brunch we did have to wait but it got so busy it couldn't be helped. The cocktails themselves were amazing, plenty of it and dressed nicely. As it’s a set drinks menu i only really tried 3 out of the 6 cocktails as they weren't to my taste. I wasn't a fan of the passion fruit bellini. We also ordered a Shot Tree which was an extra cost but was really cute. The decor is pink and girly and the music is mostly girly songs. As part of the bottomless brunch you have a time limit of 1.45minutes there. Once this time has come to the end i thought we could have stayed but just paid for the rest of the drinks we ordered afterwards but it wasn't the case. The server was lovely i didn't catch the name, and politely said that we need to leave as our bottomless brunch had ended.

My go to place in Chester for a gorgeous breakfast in such pretty surroundings, especially if you like pink! It’s spotlessly clean and has such a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve been several times now and can highly recommend the breakfast menu. Everything is delicious and very well presented and the service is great, we met the owner and he was so friendly and accommodating. All the little finishing touches I love, such as the pink mayonnaise! They even do a cocktail happy hour in the evening, from 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Thursday, where you can get two cocktails for, I think, £11.95. There is a amazing selection of drinks to choose from, all well presented in beautiful glasses. When we paid the the bill we got a voucher for £5 off our next breakfast visit, which was a nice surprise. We will definitely be returning again on our next trip to Chester.

Really disappointed by my experience here last night. Asked the manager for a refund as I did pay a deposit of £20 for the table to be told no. Will never go back and would not recommend. Nowhere on my booking did it state there would be a dj playing from the late afternoon meaning the whole ‘restaurant’ had turned into a dance floor for our 6.30pm reservation. Palm is a cocktail bar/nightclub not a restaurant. Please do not book for an evening meal on the weekend as you’ll be sharing your tapas with drunk people grinding on you while you eat.

Great night, unexpected in a bar that serves mostly craft beers and no Strongbow cider, which left me drinking Peroni. But, we ended up sharing our trestle table with 4 guys who were over from Scarborough for the match the following day and we enjoyed some interesting and varied conversation, all helped with an additional bonus of The One and Only song being played for us, much to the merriment of the group of guys. Live entertainment too, which was the main reason for our visit. We will definitely return here on an overnight stay in Chester 👍

This review is solely based on the chicken wings I ordered. Came all the way from Preston to "my favourite" chicken spot, months after I've last been, only to see how much things have changed. The chicken which was worth the same price, has dropped in both quality and quantity; I was so sad and disappointed. Especially because I always enjoy bringing my friends who visit Chester for the first time to enjoy that chicken. I would rather pay more for good quality than have reduced quality of something I once enjoyed. I won't be patronising anymore.
Jacqueline E — Google review
Overpriced, undermeasured and stingy volume in the drinks. They're mostly ice. I don't mind paying 9.50 for a drink if it's an experience and decently strong, but these weren't. Some were served with foam bananas that had black mould growing on them. My partner said it was the first time he'd actually been annoyed by a drink- it was a chocolate and cream based drink, but there were literally only a few sips in that didn't taste good. It looked like there should have been quite a bit more in there but it was just the cream coating the ice. It was also slightly too loud. The main positive is that the staff were really nice.

Works party do. We had the place to ourselves. Lovely decor. Felt like we were thousands of miles away in a tikki bar. The eats supplied were lovely but could only be described as finger food. Plenty of beers, softdrinks and speciality cocktails for you to enjoy.

I booked the cocktail making for 17 people with food for a hen party. Everything was fantastic, this was the highlight of the entire weekend. Amelia and Adam made the night for us. Food was lovely, music was A* can not recommend enough.

We went bottomless brunch and were the only people in there for over an hour but drinks, staff and food were excellent. Atmosphere picked up just as we were leaving

We had an amazing time at our bottomless brunch at The Love Shack in Chester, thanks to Anna and KC! They were incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure our glasses were always full. Their energy and hospitality made the day extra special. Highly recommend – we’ll definitely be back!

Nestled in the heart of Chester, The Guild is a remarkable nightclub that has transformed a former church into an elegant venue perfect for any occasion. With its two bars and inviting terrace, it’s an ideal spot for those looking to celebrate or enjoy a sophisticated night out. Don’t let its chic ambiance fool you; The Guild comes alive with vibrant live DJs spinning tunes every Friday and Saturday, ensuring the dance floor stays packed until the early hours.
Myself and my husband held our wedding party at The Guild over Christmas. We got married in Chester Town Hall then moved on to The Guild for a big party with all our friends and family. From the very first time we got in contact with Chiara and Stef they were so helpful and attentive. They made our planning super easy and helped us find suppliers for food and decorations. We used a pasta food van feast bros for our evening meal which was delicious and entertainment12 for our decorations who know the venue well. Our party was so much fun, the venue was so beautiful. Everything ran smoothly from the beginning of our planning to the end of the night at our wedding party. We are so grateful we chose this beautiful venue. We could have asked for more for our wedding celebration. Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff at The Guild for making our party so special.

Went here for my birthday with 3 female cousins for cocktails. This place did not disappoint us. A booth was reserved for us, we were waited on, i felt special. The cocktails were the best ive tasted. The place its self is very clean and smart. The staff were very attentive and happy, just an amazing atmosphere. Planning to revisit very soon!! 10/10

I get why this bar can get busy fast. The interior lovely and love this Historic feel. There is a neon sign perfect for a photo opportunity. I went on a Thursday evening and could enjoy the bar without it being pushed. It is on the small side but they do also outdoor seating. Cocktails were fab

Absolutely amazing place. Coming from the London boarders, I wasn’t expecting the table service for a pint!! Well done all. Thank you for making me feel welcome.
