Garden
Historical place
Jardin de La Fontaine is a 17th-century park spanning 15 hectares, featuring Roman ruins, botanic gardens, ponds, and sculptures. It houses the oldest Roman structure in Nimes, the Tour Magne, situated on Mont Cavalier within the garden grounds. Notably, it was Europe's first public garden built on the site of an ancient Roman spring called La Source in the 18th century.
An absolute must in Nimes. The oldest public gardens in Europe. Beautifully laid out historic gardens with lots of classical architecture, statues, and Roman ruins. A superb restaurant in the centre, nice inside, but lots of alfresco dining, which is absolutely lovely.
GRAHAM B — Google review
Commissioned by King Louis XV in 1745, this is one of the oldest public gardens in Europe. It was built around La Fontaine, a natural spring venerated by the people of Nîmes for millennia, and once the heart of a sacred Gallo-Roman sanctuary. Designed by Jacques-Philippe Mareschal and Pierre Dardailhon, the garden harmoniously blends Roman ruins with the aesthetics of a formal French garden. It features a lower section in the classical French formal style and an upper section landscaped in a more natural, Mediterranean style.
Seokjin H — Google review
A beautiful garden with many walkways, plazas and viewpoints. The stairs and fountains are truly beautiful and there are some amazing panorama views of the city. It is quite a climb to the top though, with many staircases and ramps, so be make sure you bring your walking shoes!
Connor G — Google review
Fabulous park with fountains, gardens, canal with big carp, lots of stairs to climb if you wish for the view. Great way to spend a relaxing hour or two.

This park has so much to offer; from ancient Roman ruins, botanical gardens, 16th century pondages and sculpture features. All to make the visit memorable.

Maison Carrée, also known as "square house," is a well-preserved Roman temple located in Nimes, France. It was built in 4AD and dedicated to the princes of youth, Emperor Augustus' adopted grandson. The temple features richly decorated columns and friezes. Over the centuries, it has served various purposes such as a church, stables, and even a museum of fine arts.
A great Romain temple that has been preserved because it has been in continuous use. Over the years it has been a private residence, a court house, a fine arts museum and a great well restored monument. In the early 2000 they restored the tops of the columns from the original quarry. It is beautifully lit up at night.
Jan S — Google review
It's a beautiful building to admire from ancient Roman times. The exterior looks impressive and it's located in a lovely spot in Nîmes. I didn't see the inside because there was an entrance fee and I was told there wasn't much to see."
Joost H — Google review
A masterpiece of ancient Roman architecture, this is considered the best-preserved Roman temple in the world, symbolizing the era of Pax Romana. Constructed between 16 BCE and 4 CE, it was dedicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, adopted sons of Emperor Augustus, serving as a temple of imperial cult worship. Throughout the Middle Ages, it was repurposed as a town hall, church, and storehouse. From 1821 to 1907, it housed the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which contributed to its preservation. The temple features a hexastyle façade with six Corinthian columns and a pseudoperipteral layout—engaged columns along the cella walls creating the illusion of a full colonnade. Its harmonious proportions and refined decorative elements have inspired many later buildings, including the Virginia State Capitol (USA) and La Madeleine in Paris. ※ Included in the Pass Romanité.
Seokjin H — Google review
An absolutely beautiful and well conserved classic temple. The museum itself is very small (one room) so a visit inside will be a very quick visit - one could certainly view from the outside only.
Andrew V — Google review
Beautiful Roman temple from 1st century BC. The entry ticket allows you to go in and read a couple of information on the monument's history. While you can just poke your head inside and read the Wikipedia entry to get more context about the place, paying the ticket could help support the maintenance of the monuments.
Mi H — Google review
There are 2 sides to this review. 1. Stunning architecture, a building that has stood for 1000’s of years passed the passage of time for of that it’s well worth the visit. 2, however there is nothing inside than the very informative information boards in one room that you pay €5 and queue for 20 mins. I get the contribution to upkeep, More interesting from the outside.
Graham R — Google review
Best preserved temple of it's inid anywhere. There are a few pillars in Barcelona (allegedly) and one still standing in Pula, bu neither compares to this. Not much to see in the little museum, but like any great art or delicious food you can enjoy it over and over again just being in it's presence and feasting on its history and magnificence.

Historic Sites
The Temple de Diane, an impressive ancient Roman monument in Nimes, showcases the architectural and historical significance of the region. Built during the reign of Augustus, it is situated near the 'La Fontaine' spring and was associated with an Augusteum dedicated to emperor veneration. Despite its traditional name, its basilica-like design raises questions about its classification as a temple.
Nestled in the beautiful Park of the Fountain in Nîmes, this ancient Roman structure was interesting and inspirational. One is allowed to explore it and touch it! It is interesting to consult Wikipedia as to its "name"....
Laura G — Google review
Tucked away in the corner of the park the stunning temple is well worth taking the time to explore.
Potatoes — Google review
Tucked away in the corner of the park, well worth a look around this ancient roman temple.
Yvonne K — Google review
Dating back to the 1st century CE during the reign of Emperor Augustus, this ancient Roman structure was originally part of the Augusteum, a sacred complex dedicated to the imperial cult. It was built near the La Fontaine spring, a site considered sacred since antiquity. Despite its name evoking the Roman goddess Diana, there is little archaeological evidence that it ever served as a temple to her. Scholars suggest it may have functioned instead as a library or a public cultural facility. During the Middle Ages, the building was repurposed for use as a monastery, church, and even a storage site, which helped preserve it from destruction.
Seokjin H — Google review
So amazing to be able to walk right in, location is in a beautiful park. Very special to see such historic spots.
Wendy S — Google review
Really beautiful park with the remains of a “temple” that are partially still standing and big fun to explore. The structure was likely a library not a temple. It is a public park and there’s no entrance fee or ticket needed.
Haley B — Google review
As part of the Jardins and Tour Magne visit it would be foolish to pass this Temple without walking through it was those did Millennia ago!
Paul W — Google review
Roman building from the 1st century. Despite its name, there is no archaeological or literary evidence to indicate that it is a temple or even that it was dedicated to Diana. Rather, it is thought to have been a library. In the Middle Ages it housed a monastery, which explains why it has been partially preserved to this day.

Les Halles de Nîmes is a bustling covered market with over 100 stalls, offering a wide variety of local gastronomic specialties. Visitors can indulge in PDO picholine olives, olive oil, anchoiade, Pelardons goat cheeses from nearby Cevennes, and Costieres de Nimes wines. The market is a food lover's paradise where one can savor regional cuisine such as brandade de morue and taureau with Camargue rice.
Wonderful market with a large variety of choices. Fishmongers, butchers, charcuterie, local specialties such as brandade, rouille, alioli, Camargue rice, cheeses, ground coffee, olives and tapenades, baked goods, fresh pasta and of course fruit and veg, are plentiful. There are a couple of places to eat as well. Best to go later in the week if you want to see everybody open, but even on slower days you can find a plethora of good stuff.
Christine K — Google review
A local market with many fruit stands and bakery shops. All fruits are delicious and pastries there are so yummy. This is one of the places I’d highly recommend
Rio C — Google review
Great fresh market and wonderful pre-prepared foods. Spacious, clean and friendly. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality. It's also attached to a mall. Highly recommend 🇨🇦
Kari Q — Google review
Established in 1884, this traditional indoor market underwent architectural renewal in the 1970s but still preserves the legacy of 19th-century glass-and-iron market design. It offers a vibrant showcase of local culinary culture and fresh regional produce. With over 100 stalls and shops selling vegetables, meats, seafood, cheeses, olives, wines, and more, the market is a hub of daily life in Nîmes. The interior layout is uniquely organized by aisles named after spices, enhancing the charm of the space.
Seokjin H — Google review
Fresh market, very clean and easy to walk around. There is a wide variety of food to choose from. Parking is in the same building as the market.
Jiraporn C — Google review
One of the best indoor markets in Provence. Outstanding produce and very good casual bars and restaurants with authentic local food, highly recommend a visit if you are in Nimes.

Superb market in one of the gastronomy centers of southern France. Shopped here often during our week in Nîmes; bought fish, beef, chicken, cheese, vegetables, bread, wine. Everything fresh, most of it local. Do yourself a favor and find a place in Nîmes with a kitchen for at least a few days so you can take advantage of what this market has to offer.

Carré d'Art in Nimes, France is a modern architectural marvel designed by Norman Foster. This cultural center stands in stark contrast to the ancient Maison Carree, creating a captivating juxtaposition of old and new. The building houses a vast collection of contemporary art and serves as the city's library. With its sleek design featuring glass, concrete, and steel, Carré d'Art pays homage to its historical surroundings while showcasing temporary exhibitions that highlight the latest trends in modern art.
Extremely inspiring contemporary museum and one of my personal favourites in Nimes. The curation was diverse in art styles with great taste for new artists :)
Bianca R — Google review
A nice cultural center for Nimes, where you go from the library to the classrooms where you can set up exhibitions such as those of modern art. The architecture is new and majestic as a whole and definitely makes it quite a tourist attraction. Then there is also the possibility of going to the bar-restaurant with a terrace overlooking the square of the Roman temple.
J_Gogo — Google review
I was there for the opening of the first exhibition to occupy the entire space by a single artist ( and he’s local!) Despite being 87? He not only directed the installation, he apparently created the last work for it 5 days ago! A stunning space with knowledgeable and friendly staff. A must see !
J M — Google review
Great building and pretty library, nevertheless, the museum disappointed us. Super SMALL exhibition and quite awful. We enjoy contemporary art museums but this one is not worth the money. Nice admission staff, but the one at the exhibition were kind of annoying.

The view from top is a good tip. It's a place called " Le ciel de Nîmes" toping 5he museum. It's worth visiting collections of that nice art center and public library. The restaurant and bar over the terrace is one if the best adresses in town....

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nîmes is housed in a grand 1821 building and features an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures from various periods, ranging from Roman times to the early 20th century. The museum's centerpiece is a remarkable second-century AD mosaic, the largest in Nîmes, complemented by 19th-century neoclassical sculptures.
Another great museum in Nîmes with an impressive array of pieces of art. We spent two hours on a Sunday morning with our children and we all learned so much from the visit. Definitely recommended!
Iason S — Google review
Although half of the museum was closed due to refurbishment at the time, we absolutely loved this museum and it's females in art exhibition especially. The lady on reception was really kind and gave us some recommendations and gave us a discounted ticket due to the fact most of the museum was closed which we really appreciated. Would love to come back once the second floor is complete!
Kayleigh M — Google review
Small museum with gems worth visiting especially the central floor mosaics and the exhibition about women throughout the ages.
Gabi P — Google review
Nice museum with historical art. Not too big either. It took us around 1.5-2 hours to visit. They have English audio guides that provide relevant information about the most important paintings in the museum.
Dewi — Google review
Currently the gallery is under innovation so some rooms are closed, and the ticket is reduced to 3 euros instead of 5 euros. The collection is quite interesting, easy to spend an hour here.
S.R. W — Google review
I love this museum so much because of the very kind welcome I received from the lady at the welcome desk. 🥰 I then was totally regaled by the current exhibition of Fatma Haddad’s works. The museum has a delightful flow from room to room displaying classical oil paintings. There is even an atelier for children to make art. Truly a beautiful museum. I will return often.
C'est M — Google review
Of course the building is madly impressive. A stage was being set up inside for some event (that I'd like to go to), but detracted from the overall gravitas. We couldn't access the upper stories and there was some modern installations that didn't quite hit the mark.

We paid the full €5 each despite parts of the gallery being closed. All labels on pictures were in french and although there were some numbers indicating headphones could be used, none were available ☹️

Very interesting museum for a 5 euro entrance fee. The personnel were very kind and helpful. Some of the floors of the building were as amazing as the displays. The origin of Denim has its own room to show how it originated in Nimes and has evolved. (De Nimes = Denim). Ancient Ruins
Nestled in the heart of Nîmes, France, the Porte d'Auguste stands as a magnificent testament to the city's rich Roman heritage. This ancient gateway, named after Emperor Augustus who fortified the town, dates back to the 1st century BCE and served as a crucial entrance through Roman ramparts. Located at the intersection of Boulevard Gambetta and Boulevard Amiral Courbet, it was part of the Via Domitia—the historic road leading to Rome.
One of the two remaining Roman gates in Nîmes, this structure dates back to around 16–15 BCE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus. It was part of the city's ancient fortifications and served as one of its main gates. An inscription commemorates Augustus' gift of the city walls and gates to the citizens. The original city walls once extended approximately 7 kilometers around Nîmes. It marked a major entrance along the historic Via Domitia, the Roman road linking Italy and Hispania.
Seokjin H — Google review
The inscription above the arches reads: "The Emperor Augustus, son of the divine Caesar, consul for the eleventh time, exercising tribunician power for the eighth time, gave the gates and walls to the colony". The construction of the Porte d'Auguste, formerly known as Porte d'Arles, dates back to the 1st century BC. It was one of the main gates of the city and was the entry point of the Via Domitia.
Natalie D — Google review
The ancient ruins of the former Roman city wall that once encircled the city. It's great to see that a small section is still preserved."
Joost H — Google review
Sadly squeezed in by 2 roads and a in situ building, restricting the gate from view. Also, it's basically unpreserved. So you have to lean in and snap shots. But you are lucky to the original paving stones and blocks are here, so you can imagine what a Roman or serf saw

Nice little museum with some very interesting Dinosaur models and animal taxidermy. Fascinating collection of African tribal spears and shields too. Entrance is free with the Nimes pass which I bought online - well worth the money as entrance to the majority of local attractions and the tourist train is included.
Where A — Google review
Very small, with very little of real interest inside. There is a room filled with cultural items from across Africa and Australia but barely anything is labeled or the few labels that are there are often illegible or hidden. Many exhibits obscure other items of interest by blocking your view. It felt less like a museum and more like a brocante. Some of the taxidermists animals are so poorly finished they're laughable, potentially entertaining enough to warrant a visit. It's hard to recommend that you will find anything worthy of your time here or your money. Overpriced for what is actually on display and the quality of the exhibitions are severely lacking. Keep your money for other attractions.

Nestled in the heart of Nîmes, Le Napoléon is a charming brasserie that whisks you away to the grandeur of the 19th century. With its stunning Second Empire architecture, adorned with intricate mouldings and gilded accents, this historic café has been a beloved gathering spot since 1813. Whether you're stopping by for a delightful coffee and cake or indulging in their plat du jour, every visit feels like stepping back in time.
the waiter is nice, the food is delicious, there is no chair for children

Really nice old cafe with an impressive ceiling, bar and seating arrangement. It is usually crowded, especially during the winter and in the afternoons. The food is not that great. I can only recommend the burger which I enjoyed in one of my visits. Service is really relaxed. Maybe more than what you would expect in a historic cafe. Also, prefer to sit outside or if you go inside choose the tables in the bar area if they are available. The tables in the second room are not that great, the set-up is darker and you get the noise from the kitchen and the people visiting the toilets all the time. I prefer going there for a quick coffee or a hot chocolate with the kids, rather than for lunch or dinner. For that i would give it 5 stars, but the lunch/dinner experience is not that great.

Beautiful place with relaxing, great atmosphere for a drink with friends or just to sit there and read a book whilst enjoying a nice drink and some delicious pie perhaps. My wife and I went here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch but unfortunately in the weekends the chef doesn’t work so there’s only option for pie or cookies. And drinks, of course. The only person working at the time was a young guy who works here parttime as a student. Even though he was running all over the place he was a good host and always cheerful. This place is lucky to have him (unfortunately I forgot to ask him his name).

Very beautiful the food was good but the service was not so good she couldn’t speak English and talked like nothing interested her. Very good chocolate crossaint.

J P — Google review
The place is visually really nice. The lack of interest in serving me was appaling. The moment I stepped in the place I got the impression they didn't want me there. Initially ordered a coffee and then I was asked to move to a neighbouring table for a bigger group, which I didn't mind at all, the way they went about it though was very was poor. I mentioned I didn't speak French and then the servers arms went up in the air as if he was really put out and continued to talk about me to the new occupants of the table I was sat at. Then came to the bill which I requested. 15 mins later, the bill still hadn't arrived, so I asked again and was just told to go to the bar area to pay. Again I don't mind that but don't make me wait 15 mins, they were taking payment for other tables while they were seated. Then they overcharged me charging for the order of the table I was sat at initially. Only after payment went through did I realise (no bill was produced and I paid by card) this was raised and then rectified by paying me back in cash.

The pate à coco and flan coco are typical dishes of Nîmes, offering original combinations of flavors in just the right portion sizes. The atmosphere is pleasant, with the option to dine on a patio under the shade of a large tree.
Wonderful food, wonderful friendly service. The restaurant is located in a former convent and we sat in the very picturesque courtyard. The house speciality potato pie with chicken and chanterelle sauce was amazing and the accompanying salad too. Cognac souffle for dessert....yum! I would advise booking in advance.

. I reserved table outside 2 weeks prior and recommend to reserve this place. They will not let you before opening if you reserved 19-30. I really loved this place. I highly recommend to eat there. Very attentive and nice boys which served our food . We took gourmet menu (starter +main+dessert) for 39 euro. I took Grilled Cuttlefish with garlic aioli and black rice. Super tasty and for starter goat burrata with tomatos 🍅 mmmm 😋 desert also were superb Coconut flan, baked with lime in caramel. Highly recommend to take it :) my husband took Homemade Brandade alla Puttanesca" (tomatoes, garlic, olives, capers, lemon & pine nuts) and I took some of his as usual 😂 and it was fresh and amazing. Instead of main u can take House speciality. It is flaky potato pie, baked in a traditional oven, has become the signature dish of Au Flan Coco. Served with a fresh salad and raw vegetables, it's a generous, authentic... and truly unique dish. You choose the filling you're craving — they bake it right into the heart of the pie! He took ratatouille with basil pesto and no regrets there - I recommend to try !! He was saying no place for dessert but when he saw my coconut 🥥 flan he changed his mind 😂

Amazing dish, and the most delicious stew beef I’ve ever tried, so tender and juicy. The dessert plan coco is out of this world, everything tastes like homemade, nice service too. We were eating in a patio, not hot at all, covered by a big tree. Very nice experience!

A very good rate between food and price. They change menù every month to guarantee fresh and seasonal ingredients. The tipical plat are paté a coco (a salt cake with different combination inside, I've tried Brandade and tapenade, tipical of Nimes) and flan coco (a dessert) . Original combinations of tastes and a right portion!

Our group of four visited au Flan Coco for lunch as part of our day trip to Nimes. One of our group enjoyed the Plat du Jour (Today’s special) Cuisse de poulet farcie à la scarmoza et basilic, jus de volaille, polenta et courgette. (Chicken thigh stuffed with scarmoza and basil, polenta and zucchini). They thoroughly enjoyed it. The remainder of our group enjoyed Les Pat à Coco, a specialty of the restaurant. It is a potato pie, with crispy, flaky pastry and you can choose from a variety of additional layers within that might include roasted vegetables, tapenade, goats cheese, bacon, caramelised lamb…there were many options. This came with a generous and nourishing salad. Coupled with a rosè and followed by coffee and a range of sumptuous desserts this was a devine lunch made only better by warm service and, of course, outstanding company. If the weather is good I recommend eating outside like we did. A perfect lunch!

A superb experience for my very first Michelin star restaurant. I was amazed by the quality of every dish, and the level of craftsmanship that goes into each dish was beyond amazing. The service was absolutely five star as well: every server in a suit, high level of attention to detail, superb wine pairings and serene atmosphere. We ate for nearly 4 hours without interruption! This was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The chef takes so much care to make every dish come together to sing in a true chorus of flavors. I also have a gluten allergy, and there was so much I could eat I never once felt deprived. They even had gluten free bread! Upon hearing I hadn’t ordered his signature soufflé for dessert (I’d assumed it had gluten), the chef sent me one on his own to ensure I got to try it. Stopped for lunch here on a friend’s recommendation and absolutely loved this restaurant. Cozy warm interior, very friendly service and incredible salted cod dish named “Brandade de morue” which is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. We also had the homemade tapenade which was excellent. The wine list is huge, with an excellent choice of high end French and international. Stopped by for a beer and sat outside with a great view of the arena. 1664 (50 cl) was 6.80 euro. Not bad considering the location. Incredible beautiful place to sit. Great view on the arena but terrible service. You can only get your drinks at the bar. No problem there but all the tables are filled with empty cups, glasses, cans and coffee cups. Not everything on the drink menu is available. There was broken glass on the ground as well. If you want a quick drink after walking around or visiting the arena, this will do but not if you want to relax and be serviced on your table.

To sum up, it’s hard for a bar to provide a worse experience. No food available, only one choice of wine available, soft drinks served in a can. First off this on the square overlooking the Maison Carrée Roman temple. A great and unique atmosphere for dinner, We had a wonderful meal. Ordered the seafood platter and the prime rib, which was a huge portion (700 grams) and shared between the two of us. Our own surf and turf! I had dinner in this restaurant in the Summer of 2024 and it was disappointment, across the board: the service was very slow, the dishes lacked depth, and the price was high for what was delivered. It is very surprising that it has such good reviews - I would definitely not recommend it. On a more positive note, the location is indeed outstanding, right next to the Maison Carre.

Great location, good food. The price was ok for all i ordered, around 30 euros. When i left i went inside and saw the live music and i asked myself why was I staying outside. Friendly staff also. I will definitely come back!

I encourage would-be diners to ask if a certain plat de jour exists before grabbing a table. We came for the gardiane de taureau, a famous beef stew, but it ran out so we ended up with minuscule fish and chips and, unfortunately for my partner, a dry pungent moules frites. When asked about the gardiane de taureau, they said they don’t erase it from their chalkboard since they will probably have more some other day. Hmm.. Still, this restaurant is in a nice open spot, the fries were nice, and they deduct the awful moules frites from the bill.
Jong C — Google review
First my dish was served 10 minutes after everyone at the table…. Then it was not what was on the menu…. Rice instead of risotto . Supions en persillade were not cooked , I had to sent it back… Absolument the worst risotto I ever had it’s a shame that the chef can dare to serve it. Finally, didn’t eat anything… at least they removed-it from bill. Too bad! I’ll never go back nor my guests! Change the chef or go broke!
Chris D — Google review
Food was good value and fine. Service was terrible and that is why I have rated the experience so poorly. The new waitress failed to enter our order so many people got their orders ahead of us. Apologies were there and appreciated but I then had to go in to get a knife which had not been brought out. The owner/manager? didn't seem concerned by any of this. Coffee took an age too. We were offered a free digestif to compensate which was nice. It's a great location but not recommended on the basis of service. Hopefully this will improve

Great little find well worth checking out. Busy little place that didn't crop up on the usual websites when doing my research of places to go beforehand - all the better for it. Authentic tapas reasonably priced, the convivial atmosphere really created a buzz. Everything was well made with good ingredients and nice to be able to see the kitchen in action.

The bathroom was filthy despite the restaurant just opening an hour earlier, indicating it’s rarely cleaned. There was also no soap available, and when I asked the staff, they said they just didn’t have any at all and handed me a paper napkin as if that was a great alternative to soap. Lord only knows what goes on in the kitchen with that nonchalance to hygiene. The food was disappointing – super greasy, and the pimientos de padrón were not even cooked, almost raw. Overall, nothing special and definitely not better than an average tapas place anywhere else in the world.

The food was really good; the duck was particularly good. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The service was quite slow (even by French standards). Inaugurated in 1851, the fontaine is a marble fountain designed by Charles-Auguste Questel and James Pradier. It symbolizes the city of Nîmes through its connection to water and Roman heritage. The Pradier fountain is a marble fountain on the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle in Nimes, inaugurated in 1850. It was created by the architect Charles Questel and the sculptor James Pradier and it is registered as a historical monument by decree on November 16, 1988. The fountains main figure is a young woman standing in the middle which represents the city of Nîmes. It bears as its crown the emblematic Roman monuments of the city: the Arena and the colonnade of the Maison Carree (Roman Temple). The main statue is surrounded by four seated statues and basins that collect water. These four figures, two men and two women, represent four major rivers in the region: the Fontaine de Nîmes, the mother source of the Roman colony, the Gardon, the Fountain of Eure and the Rhône. Each of these representations is identified by its Latin name, engraved on its base: Nemausa, Vardo, Ura and Rhodano.

Le République is a charming bistro that embodies the essence of French dining, making it a beloved spot for locals year-round. With its inviting decor featuring leatherette banquettes and classic brass railings, this cozy eatery creates an atmosphere that's both casual and sophisticated when it comes to food. Guests rave about the delightful selection of meats and seafood, with standout dishes like the land and sea tartare infused with herring flavors.
Local French restaurant right next to the main tourist attraction, yet offering the amazing food and service! I highly recommend visiting, the owner of the place was very welcoming and made us feel like at home lunch. As I said, all meals were amazing.

Amazing place with a lovely atmosphere and ambience. The staff is very friendly. Price are really good and the quality is excellent. I recommend the “Unglet de veau” and the “Mouse au chocolat”. The wine from the Nîmes is perfect for the meal. Definitely I will come back here whenever I’m in this city.

We had lunch here after visiting the Arena. It was a charming place. We had the beef tartare (surf and turf version, beef and smoked fish), grilled marinated beef on skewers, veal and duck hearts. Everything was good. Our waitress was always smiling and sometimes she sang. They were very friendly and competent. The place seems to get a good number of locals too. A very good sign!

A quintessential French bistrot. Casual and such friendly service with incredible food. The tartare is stand out. Merci to Marie ❤️

If you are looking for that "authentic" place. Had a tartar and a rose. Tartar has 80% beef and 20% haring. Full of locals.

Skip the restaurant in the Museum Romanité and come here instead (it’s right across the street)! We came for lunch and it was one of the best meals we had in all of Nîmes. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing lunch. The œufs mimosas were delicious and the tartare was mouth-watering. The veal steak was also absolutely perfect. Don’t miss the crème brûlée for dessert!

Wine bar
Italian restaurant
Nestled in a charming corner of the Old Town, Gard O Wine is a delightful wine bar that invites you to explore the rich tapestry of local wines. With an impressive selection available by the glass, you can savor the exquisite offerings from Cotes du Rhone while indulging in delectable pairings like local cheeses and charcuterie. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for a memorable evening out.
I have to start this review talking about the service, what a wonderful service, a Wow factor. I was at the bar on a Tuesday night and there were only two ladies working at the bar, and both are an example on to provide great customer service. One of the ladies was Italian, a great attendant, very friendly, very smiling and who UNDERSTANDS very much about her wines. We explained to her the type of wine we wanted and she soon came up with three options exactly the way we wanted. The other lady was french, and she prepared us one of the best taps of my vacation. The two of you congratulations for your customer service. The bar is very cool, very local, French style. One of the best wine options you can find in the region. A very nice environment, perfect if you want to enjoy a wine quietly. The price is varied, you can drink great wines cheaper or you can go to a more premium selection, it has for all costs. Bear in mind that Nimes is a small town and that not everyone is obliged to speak English fluently, but that wont stopped them going above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable
Luis L — Google review
is a relaxed and charming spot, perfect for enjoying a great glass (or bottle) of wine. They have a fantastic selection, and the staff are excellent at recommending wines based on your personal taste – we tried several, both by the glass and the bottle, and every single one was absolutely superb. The food is also top-notch. The truffle stracciatella in particular was out of this world – so good I came back the next day just to have it again! There always seemed to be a table available, but I’d still recommend booking in advance just to be safe. A must-visit for wine lovers in the area.
Taiene L — Google review
My wife and I were wanting to try local wines from around the Nîmes area and this wine bar had many options. The wines ranged from local, to other parts of France, to Italy. There were many options, so if you like wine, you will find something good. The food menu had a variety of meat, cheese, and other options such as bruschetta. If you are looking for delicious food, a great selection of wine, and a friendly atmosphere come here. We do not speak much French, but the staff still did their best to make us feel welcomed and serve us. It was a fantastic experience.

Don’t be afraid try something! Great place in the market. But don’t hesitate, the oysters and a seat at the bar might be gone out you do. But there are tables on the side which were just as great! Loved the duck hearts. Give them a try! I don’t see how you can go wrong here come back and try something different each trip. That is my plan.
HerrDoctorchoppy — Google review
Staff took advantage of our attempted French speaking and included an additional plat de jour on our order at €22 which we did not ask for and did not want. A simple act of deception which left us with the impression that we had been ripped off. The oysters and wine were good, the rest was mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend as they are deceitful in their interactions with tourists.

Castellum Aquae, also known as Castellum divisorium, is a significant Roman site in Nimes that played a crucial role in the city's water distribution system during ancient times. This unassuming structure served as the central point where the city's water supply was collected from aqueducts and then distributed throughout Nimes.
Extraordinary 1st century Roman built
Bogdan I — Google review
The Castellum Aquae of Nîmes was used to redistribute water from the Eure springs brought in by the aqueduct, whose best-known section is the Pont du Gard. Its flow rate has allowed a supply of 1,400 liters (370 gallons) of water per day per inhabitant (today, we each consume 150 liters daily (40 gallons!). The city’s fountains were served first, followed by public buildings (notably but not exclusively the baths) and some private houses. A threshold was set in case of drought in favor of the most essential uses.
Philippe Q — Google review
The English translation: "Water Castle". Although it was known from the texts, it is a rare vestige of this type. Its function was to distribute water to the city. This water was supplied by a 50 km long aqueduct built in the middle of the 1st century A.D. (Augustan period). In times of drought, it guaranteed the security of the water supply and facilitated the evacuation of the city's wastewater. It is known to have been filled in during the construction of the citadel in 1688 and was not rediscovered until 1844 by a private individual who immediately set about uncovering it. There is no entrance fee, you can see it from the sidewalk.
Natalie D — Google review
This is where the aquaduct came and distributed the water to different parts of the city. Roman engineering is amazing!
C R — Google review
Important place in the history of nimes, where the water of the aquaduct entered the city and was distributed by means of 10 lead pipes. The city is a bit out of the city centre and not properly signposted. Use google maps to find it! Top tip: close to the tower and the jardins fontaines, combine the visit!
Jens R — Google review
Interesting relic of Roman engineering, from the end of the aquaduct to lead pipes, no wonder they were crazy
Zene M — Google review
Underwhelming attraction. There's only a sign board in front of the collapsed aqueduct which looks like a pile of rocks. Don't see any tourist around here as well. If you're visiting Nimes it should be okay to skip this attraction.

Fabulous place. Typical 'pub' menu of burgers, salads, fish and chips etc, but elevated - everything was superb. Super friendly and quick service, and set in a pleasant square, with nice background music from the restaurant.

Cocktails from fruits are meant cocktails from sweet artificial siroupe, water and ice. Probably someone may like it, but it should be mentioned in menu. Though in menu cocktail Africa is described like: "passion, citron pamplemousse limonade"... nothing is said about artificial siroupe...This bar is a disappointment, both drinks and service..

We are a couple on our honeymoon and had previously eaten lunch out at a restaurant every day of our trip through Iceland, Amsterdam, and Brussels. All at top rated places. This was the best lunch meal we have had on our trip so far. Everything was perfectly cooked and the ingredients fresh. You can feel the love from the kitchen and the attention to detail that they put in to every preparation. It was also extremely affordable for the quality of the food. A wonderful meal.

Small restaurant in the centre of Nimes. Service and food were impeccable. Great wine and desserts. There are only 2 dishes of the day available in the menu, so no kids menu, nuggets, steak haché etc. But the staff and the chef will find a way to serve a nice dish for children based on the daily menu. The two dishes we had, a steak dish and a vegetarian chili con carne, were amazing. Definitely going back soon!

One of the best addresses in nimes. There is a daily menu that changes every day with one starter one main and few deserts options for 15euro for lunch. The menu freshly cooked and decided on the day. Ingredients are good, cuisine feels very homy. I had a very good croque miette as a desert that was presented to me by the very young chef of desert who you could feel was very excited and happy about his job which I liked a lot. The desert also ended up being this delicious type of crumble with more texture to it. Every time I am back in Nimes La Marmitte is one of the first place I'm checking. They also just moved into a much bigger space than their original one which means they can serve more people !

The service from the friendly and helpful staff was exceptional, and the food served was to the highest standard! My wife had two courses and I had three. Everything on the plate served a purpose and complimented the whole dish. You could tell that the chef gave a lot of thought to using seasonal ingredients. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and took the time to describe each dish and the recommended wine to pair. We both finished with a digestif. This was probably the worst experience in a restaurant that we have ever received. Only 1 star because the food was served. The service level & rudeness of the staff was incredible. We asked (family of 4) to move to a bench/booth table, which was set for 6, as it was more suitable for us.....we were told by 2 members of staff that it was only for 6 people not 4. The restaurant was empty inside pretty much! No customers came to the booth. So we had dinner in the end on a small round table that didn't cater for the dishes - so much so the member of staff was going to pull a chair from another table to put a plate of salad on it! We were also charged (until disputed) for 2 dishes which we didn't get served. The staff all need some customer service training. Absolutely abysmal & we wouldn't recommend this to anyone to eat here. We paid €174 for our meal and basically had our pants pulled down. Shambolic at its best.

Was excited about the opportunity to sit down and have a meal with my wife and daughter, cocktails were great and my daughter got dinner but after an hour waiting for our dinner and noticed other people being served asked where our order was only to be told it will be ready in 10 minutes, I asked for it to be take away after 10 more minutes it was still not available, paid for our drinks and left. I’m disappointed lucky MacDonalds is across the road.

We had a very nice lunch last Saturday afternoon at the terrace. The place outside is very beautiful in front of temple of Diana! The waitress was very attentive kind with great service, my compliments! The food was also good so I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice lunch place with beautiful environment and good service :)

This place is a gem in Nimes. The atmosphere of eating at the park is great, especially when you combine it with outstanding service and delicious food. Prices are a bit higher than normal, but portions are big enough to share. I recommend trying the Baba for dessert. Thanks to Simon, we had a great experience!

It's the perfect spot for after-work drinks or evenings with friends, offering a selection of delicious platters to share in a welcoming setting. The venue provides a relaxed and authentic environment, making it ideal for wine enthusiasts and those seeking leisurely moments.
Had a really outstanding meal here tonight to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. The team were friendly, efficient and helpful and we didn't feel at all rushed. The 28€ menu is great value - good portions of delicious food. I recommend the côte de taureau - well worth the 5€ supplement. The whole team are very happy to provide advice and recommendations but Quentin, our main server, stood out for us in helping to make it a special evening. We wholeheartedly recommend Le Vintage!

Far from good. Spent 70 euros on a menu of starter, main and desert for two and it was poorly prepared. My salad with a tuna tartare was too salty, almost inedible. My beef was tasteless, with some grease vegetables. Not even the desert was worth the price. Total rip off. Stay away.
John M — Google review
Again, as an English and French speaker I felt very comfortable here. The food is cooked to perfection. We go back frequently because it is had to find a place that matches both the service and quality of food. Highly recommend.
Amy L — Google review
Okay quality, a little pricey. The fois gras appetizer was mediocre, but our main plates were quite good - the sanglier (boar) and vegetarian plate of grilled vegetables were very well prepared. The marron (chestnut) desert was so so - too sweet and lacking complexity. Overall it was a decent meal. Service was good. It was 27€ for a 3 course menu, but our main plates were really the only course that were of quality.

Food, good. Service, good. Price, good. When the only fault you can find in your evening is that the red wine was slightly too cool, you can't give them less than five stars... Well worth the visit.

(Translated by Google) A very bitter taste of this experience. The boss is haughty and pretentious! An air of false sympathy that is nothing more or less than cynicism. A piece of advice: never say that the wine offered is not to your taste, big offense... There were 7 of us at the back table and it was impossible to recommend tapas, despite signs for someone to come and see us. The only time the boss decided to come was to give us a bottle. We had asked for the same one, and no, Mr preferred to give us another bottle without presenting it to us, without knowing the price, he just said to trust him. Great... She wasn't good. So, we left with a bill of 106 euros for 7 people and hungry, and the boss who nastily told us that we had to come see him directly at the bar to order because he was too busy. In short, go to the Tapas next door, at least the portions will be nicer and the owner too!

He knows these products very well and as soon as we start discussing his producers we open the encyclopedia. An enthusiast. On the menu and tapas, a good discovery with mushrooms/brandade or chorizo. A good cellar. I give it a 4/5 to say that more could be done on the cooked tapas and the prices. Afterwards we go there to eat well, discover local wines and we return if you liked the owner. The experience was simply wonderful from start to finish; every member of staff at this restaurant played their part to perfection. The sommelier took us on a journey through different regions of France throughout the course. The waiters were always very attentive and attentive to the smallest detail to satisfy us (especially not hesitating to introduce us to different kinds of cheese, even from other countries, which made the journey even more delicious). The chef came to see us at the end of the meal to ask our opinion, even though I think he has nothing left to prove. The 45-minute circuit takes you through both ancient and modern parts of the city, allowing you to see monuments and gardens. To embark on this journey, visitors can head to the nearby Nimes Tourist Office for ticket reservations and purchases.
(Translated by Google) The departure of the Little Tourist Train of Nîmes is located very close to the Musée de La Romanité, place des Arènes, you must first of all to benefit from this 45-minute circuit, between ancient and modern, ancient city and modern city, approach the monuments and gardens; go to the Nîmes Tourist Office right next door (with a charming welcome!), to reserve your slots and pay for your tickets... It's a beautiful walk, full of colors, of life, we visit a pretty city and the audio is quite rich in information... A little cleaning of the windows of the little tourist train would not be bad (!!) Merci

Tickets had to be purchased online, which the website was not clear (trying to find the “basket” to pay was incredibly difficult), and could not be processed even with the help of the train operator. The option of buying at an office 250m away was not possible due to time until the train was leaving. So we missed the last train of the day.

Be aware that you have to buy tickets in advance, the driver does not sell onboard (I tried linking to their site but it's against maps policy - the website provides the train schedule and other useful information). The audio is in French and English, with additional languages available through an app (Rewind). Enjoyed this 30min+ overview of Nîmes and would recommend it to others.

(Translated by Google) Compared to other small trains: Tickets are complicated to buy. 35-minute journey, mostly on major roads, too bad about the traffic noise. We'd love to go through the narrow streets of Old Nimes. (Original) En comparaison avec d'autres petits trains : Compliqué pour acheter les billets. Parcours de 35mn essentiellement dans les grands axes routiers, dommage pour le bruit dû à la circulation. On aimerait passer dans les petites rues du Vieux Nimes

(Translated by Google) We loved this little train for discovering the key sites in Nîmes. Perfect pace, excellent commentary, and a friendly driver. I recommend it. The only downside I'd say was buying tickets... quite complicated online. (Original) Nous avons adorés ce petit train pour découvrir les endroits clés de Nîmes. Allure parfaite, commentaires parfaits et conducteur sympathique. Je recommande. Le point négatif je dirai l'achat des tickets... assez compliqué sur le web.

(Translated by Google) Little train taken today at 3 p.m. Very nice ride in a very beautiful city. Only downside: the family with children, parents and grandparents sitting at the back of the train who had neither the manners, nor the respect nor even the politeness to let us hear the comments. (loud conversations, throat clearing, laughter and even belching from the adults!) Shameful!
