Chinese restaurant
Fullam Restaurant, a family-owned British-Chinese eatery established in 1993, boasts charming decorations such as red paper lanterns and Chinese screens. With delectable dishes like ginger-infused scallops and succulent roast duck on its menu, this award-winning restaurant has earned a reputation for serving impeccable cuisine since its inception. Nestled in the scenic North Devon countryside within a historic Coaching Inn that dates back two centuries, Fullam Restaurant prides itself on delivering exceptional food and service.
Amazing restaurant, very charming, clean, and great atmosphere, The service is very proffesional and good. Very quick service and always ready to personalise and accommodate the guests needs. The food is very authentic and if u requested they will make really spicy food and if not they will accommodate to your desires. The food was really outstanding and seriously difficult to separate between something I would have in an original restaurant in Shanghai. Exceptionally good, and the price is very reasonable.

First time visiting last Sunday evening. An inviting and well-kept restaurant area. I'd recommend the Hong Kong duck, and salt and pepper prawns. The rice portion was plenty for two people. We'd definitely come back when in the area.

Best Chinese in Barnstaple. When I am in this town I always eat here. The menu has a good selection. The service and staff are always efficient and friendly. This place is always busy, so I recommend making reservations. The food is excellent, I've been eating here for years and never been disappointed. The samba chicken is divine if you like something hot.If in Barnstaple and you are looking for a Chinese restaurant, try and get a reservation here

Such a joy to eat here with friendly staff, a great level of service and fantastic food. Plenty of space and yet always feels intimate. A top notch place to eat in Barnstaple 👌

A very nice authentic Chinese restaurant. Our waitress was from Penang, she gave us excellent service. We returned for a second night.
Sk L — Google review
Extremely well cooked and presented set menu , a little more expensive than the usual dining experience, but worth it. By far the best Chinese restaurant we have had in quite a while. (In the UK)

Amazing experience, incredible food. Jess Evans was our main waitress (asked for her surname so we knew we got the right person) she was so friendly, warming, super helpful with menu choices and just a really breath of fresh air. Definitely made our experience even more better.
Soph L — Google review
Delicious freshly cooked food! Excellent service, very friendly welcoming staff. Lovely atmosphere. It was a relaxed atmosphere despite being very full and the staff were obviously very busy. Will hopefully visit again next time we are in Barnstaple.

Modern European restaurant
Bar
Nestled in the heart of Barnstaple, Claytons & The Glasshouse is a top destination for those seeking delectable European cuisine and a vibrant atmosphere. The lounge bar boasts an intimate setting with exposed brickwork and ambient lighting, perfect for enjoying cocktails and sharing plates with friends. Meanwhile, the adjoining glass-roofed restaurant offers a fine dining experience featuring locally sourced ingredients and an ever-evolving menu.
Great food, compliments to the chefs as the food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I was very impressed and would highly recommend.

Had a fantastic time. Service was amazing. The food, in particular the Duck salad was delicious and well presented.
Milly P — Google review
What could and should have been a very lovely fun afternoon was absolutely ruined by the incredible rudeness of the owner! With her nasty comebacks to my friend who does not drink prosecco, to her snatching a bottle from my hands, rude about why I thought our glasses were not full, walked away, then came back and had, another go. We were not drunk, we had literally just arrived. As our afternoon was prepaid, we had no choice but to stay, but the owner is truly awful, which is a real shame. We will never go back here!
Jade S — Google review
Fantastic bar and restaurant venue, tasteful decor, wonderful food and friendly helpful staff.
David B — Google review
Only had ales but they were not very nice ( not really the fault of staff just personal taste) would've been nice to have more choice or opportunity to taste first. Staff were friendly however the person at the bar was distracted and blunt. Decor is to over the top for me, sort of faux fancy/posh... Felt like I was maybe at a First Dates venue, which I am sure many people would enjoy. We were after more of a chilled place for a nice pint. Not had the food so can't comment
Gina S — Google review
Had a mid week meal with my Mum and daughter. Friendly service throughout, a beautiful menu and food was just delicious! 1st time we went there but definitely not the last. Have already recommended it to friends and neighbours as this is truly a great place to go in Barnstaple!
Elodie T — Google review
Wonderful brunch.. ..and a delightful date-night dinner spot. Which ever you choose, you're bound to be impressed by the simple yet perfectly crafted menu and their superbly friendly staff. We've done both, upstairs in the glasshouse and in the downstairs atmospheric dining area and loved it both times. Sure, it's not the cheapest place in town, but I consider their food (and the experience) worth every penny. I will visit again, and I'll try to order something else than their poached eggs on smoked salmon, but it's likely that I'll fail. That dish is simply sublime. 👌

Gurkha Barnstaple, a Nepalese restaurant in town, received praise for its delectable cuisine and outstanding service. The accommodating staff wore masks and provided hand sanitizers at the entrance. Patrons highly recommended trying their chicken dish, which was described as delicious. However, there was an unfortunate incident where the bill seemed to be significantly higher than expected. Despite this hiccup, the restaurant's overall reputation for its flavorful food and excellent service remains intact.
One of the most incredible places I've ever been to. It feels like walking into an old friend's house, with a cold drink ready to go and the warmest welcome you'll ever receive and that's all before you're served some of the best tasting food I've eaten to date! Lovely people, lovely place and lovely food. Nothing more to say - other than we'll be back soon!

Friendly atmosphere, attentive staff and authentic flavours. Let them bring you all the way to Nepal, where you will smell and taste foods never found anywhere else before. Their unique menu offers something for everyone, including vegan and vegetarian options. Ask the staff for details, and they will guide you to choose the flavour you are looking for.

Delicious food and friendly, welcoming staff make this a real gem of an Indian restaurant. One of the best curry houses in the area, I’ve had many meals here with visitors who are never disappointed. Highly recommended.

Lamb momo's were amazing, tikka masala, Lamb and chicken got top marks, chicken dall massu was absinthe, all rice, naans and sides are lovely. Staff were great would definitely recommend.

Amazing food, very friendly staff and excellent service. The food is consistently good, this is our favourite restaurant. We have got to know the staff very well, and it's interesting to learn about their culture from nepal. They have lots of gluten free options, vegetarian/vegan as well. The menu is clearly marked with what contains gluten, dairy and nuts. Highly recommend.

Takeout Restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of town, The Ganges is a delightful family-friendly restaurant and takeaway that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Known for serving some of the best fish and chips around, this bustling eatery also offers a variety of grilled fish and homemade dishes, all prepared fresh to order. With its inviting atmosphere, it's a popular spot for families and friends to gather over traditional English fare.
This was my first visit but my brother is a regular and loves it. I really enjoyed the food and the staff were super friendly too. The atmosphere was nice and it was also very clean. I ordered a handful of vegi dishes which were all vegan. And most of the menu is also gluten free which helped me a lot with having more choice than I'm used to. I'd definitely recommend!

Food here is absolutely delicious. Glad we listened to local recommendations before visiting. Would definately recommended. We had large poppadoms and chutney tray. Bombay lamb, very tender mouth watering lamb with a kick. Chicken korma, delicious. Peshwari naan yum. xx
Rebecca W — Google review
Fantastic food and amazing customer service. Sticky chicken and lamb biryani were delicious! Would definitely recommend!
Fatima L — Google review
Arguably the best in the South West!! A bunch of mates and myself have setup a curry club. We go out for an Indian at least once a month, quite often more than that and I was sitting in The Ganges counting up all the places I’ve been. I counted 29 Indians in the South West and I think this one is the best of the all. Only problem is, this one is 1 1/2 hours drive from home. So it’s only for if I happen to be staying away in the area. I have to recommend the Jungle Curry, 3 Sisters side and Lemon Rice. Yum.

First time here. We'll definitely come again. The food was very tasty; freshly cooked and a lot of thought went into the spicing. Delicious.

Brilliant restaurant, fabulous food, first class service. Amazing menu, we were celebrating a birthday so splashed out. Prices are very reasonable and food is authentic to the region.

Not your standard Indian menu. Our takeaway was tasty and obviously freshly made. We had a warm welcome and would definitely make a reservations and try the restaurant when we are back in Barnstaple
Suzanne B — Google review
Nice little restaurant with good quality food. We were quite pleased that we got a reservation of our table within 30mins of our call. Ordered daal vada as starters and paneer makhani and saag aloo with naans as mains. Liked the crunch of daal vada though did feel as if it lacked few more tastes of ginger and chilli which we normally find in India. Paneer was nice and soft like a pillow. Liked saag aloo but could have done with bit of less garlic. Overall good food with warm staff which makes the experience of eating out memorable.

Italian restaurant
Giovanni's is an Italian eatery that offers a variety of delectable dishes such as pizza, pasta, and Mediterranean classics. Located near the Queen Theatre, it provides a convenient option for theatergoers seeking quality Italian cuisine before their show. The restaurant's rustic ambiance, complete with gingham tablecloths and decorative plates on the wall, transports visitors to Italy. The attentive staff ensures each customer feels welcome without being overbearing.
We had a lovely meal here, quite small and quaint inside but it’s popular so advise you book a table. The food was delicious, plenty of options on the menu, there’s also a specials board. Gluten free / vegetarian options available. Nice drinks menu as well, there’s also Italian wine we had was lovely. Nice friendly staff with good service. Would recommend.
Claire C — Google review
A friendly welcome and deliciously authentic Italian food makes this a real gem of a restaurant in Barnstaple. They are fully flexible and will mix your perfect pasta sauce with whichever pasta or gnocchi you fancy. Lovely wine too 👌
Bex B — Google review
We celebrated a special birthday here and had a lovely evening. The food we had was great but I have awarded 4* because of the portion sizes. The sizes were on the small size especially the lasagne it really was a very small portion even for an 80 year old petite lady, she would have liked more. The desserts were homemade and 5*. The staff very friendly and attentive. Regards atmosphere it would have been great to have music in the background all evening.
Suzanne H — Google review
Local Italian restaurant. Kitchen was open 4pm Saturday for our late lunch and there were a few other diners there too at that time. My sea bass was excellent. My wife enjoyed the spaghetti. Squid was good too. Good impression of a presumably family owned local place. Well done!
James H — Google review
Very good pasta. Nice authentic Italian service. But even we asked for half of portion we got the full price. …
Nicolae A — Google review
The food was very pleasant, good portion size and very tasty. Unfortunately, the experience was completely ruined by the attitude of the female server. This staff member really affected the experience overall. The desert menu was thrown on the table without her saying a word or even looking at us. She returned with her hand on her hip and said "are you ready now?!" There was no "thank you" or "goodbye" when we left. A £200 plus bill and we were completely polite and well mannered with every interaction with the staff. Therefore, there was absolutely no reason for the negative experience we endured. I feel customer satisfaction is not their priority and we unfortunately left with an overall negative impression and experience.
Alana A — Google review
I ideally want to rate them 2.5 out of 5. We went on a Tuesday evening approx 8pm-the restaurant was nearly full so staff were busy- completely fair enough- but once we were seated it took over 15 mins for staff to take our order. But as I said- slow service possibly due to the busy restaurant? We ordered starters- one was white bait, the other was mushrooms with bread- well, what an utter disappointment. Stingy portions and the sauce the mushrooms came with tasted like tinned tomatoes. The “bread” offered was nothing more than 2x2 inches- like really?? I felt there was no love or passion in these dishes at all, and felt flat. Mains- Giovannis pizza and cannelloni- I tasted the pizza- not bad in taste, bit sloppy in the middle but not bad. I would happily switch it for the cannoli I ordered- x3 tubes of pasta with mince- no sides no bread, just three small cannelloni. It didn’t fill me at all. Again, felt loveless. The one thing that I noticed was that the other dishes being brought out looked amazing- the other pasta dishes- they looked incredible and I experienced food envy. Restaurants shouldn’t have to have other dishes better than others with more effort- they should all be the same. This was our last night near Barnstaple and this was unfortunately the most unsatisfying meal we have had so far. An utter disappointment as we heard such good reviews. If you are to visit- please avoid cannoli or lasagna, as you will be disappointed. Also no draught beer on the menu. So buying bottles became a lot more expensive. Overall disappointed. Really sorry Giovanni for this as I do not like to post negative reviews.

Lush Bar & Restaurant in Barnstaple is a top choice for those seeking a classy dining experience. Located in the heart of Barnstaple, this restaurant offers a sophisticated menu and elegant decor. The spacious venue can accommodate events and busy nights without feeling crowded. Guests can choose from an extensive selection of drinks including beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails. The friendly staff are attentive to every need, even accommodating furry friends with water bowls at the table.
Excellent find! We had a variety of tapas dishes and also the hake. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding, all the staff were pleasant and very helpful when choosing some dairy free dishes. The atmosphere was great and the final bill was reasonable. Would definitely recommend and we're already trying to find an excuse to eat there again this weekend!

Cosy and romantic atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. On the more expensive side of restaurants, but definitely worth the cost when the quality (and quantity) of their food is taken into account. Few vegan options available, making it suitable for everyone.

Have been to lush many times and always had a great time. I went with a friend last week to try the new menu we were not disappointed i had the Hake my friend had the chicken with goats cheese. We shared a cheese board as well. Have to say it was lovely. Cant wait to try the other new dishes. As always Ollie and the team were lovely and looked after us. Thanks Lush.

Booked a table for 5.30, but arrived early. The staff happily accommodated us on a table well away from others as we had our husky with us. Very friendly & attentive staff who tended to our every need & ensured our dog had a bowl of water at the table. The combo platter starter we shared between us was delicious & came to the table well presented & hot. We had 4 separate dishes for mains. The chicken & bacon Caesar salad & sticky chilli chicken & halloumi salad were huge & very tasty. My son had the fiery Korean noodles which lived up to their name & were very flavourful & my husband had the katsu curry which he thoroughly enjoyed. 3 of us were too full for dessert but my son had the honeycomb cheesecake which was presented beautifully & was rich & creamy. Together with the real ales & the delicious mocktails, especially chillin' on the beach, this was one of the best meals we've had out in ages. So much so we've booked to go back again next week! Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

Food: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Style/condition: 9/10 Pricing 5/10 Summery: Very lovely place situated within Barnstaple. Food was brilliant, well cooked and the menu has a great range of foods to choose from. Most notably the beef short rib i had was very tender and tasty. Service was great. The people serving us were very nice. Waiting times weren't long. The resturant itself is smart and looked to be kept in good standards. Pricing was steep however. Paying at least £2 or more compared to similar foods you'd get in places like Miller and Carter but if the consistancy is there, I could let the pricing slide a little. Overall, if you want a decent meal to take your date out on or a family get together, id say this is a good recommendation.

Coffee shop
Nestled in the heart of Barnstaple, The Boutport Cafe is a charming spot that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike. While it may have recently lost its top ranking on Tripadvisor, this delightful cafe remains committed to serving high-quality fair trade tea and coffee sourced from local suppliers. The menu boasts an array of delicious options including waffles, cream teas, sandwiches, paninis, and jacket potatoes—all affordably priced under ten pounds.
We are frequent visitors to this cafe. Posting a review as we found out the owners make cakes on top of running the cafe (and sister cafe in Bideford). They made a fantastic birthday cake for my wife who lives Kinder Bueno. Not only is the food brilliant in the cafe, but the cake order was exceptional too. Fully recommend and thank you to the owners for always accommodating needs.
Jason H — Google review
The coffee is amazing, the service was great, and the food tasty. The owners were so friendly and accommodating, and the decor is really pretty with fairy lights. The only drawback is there is no toilet, but there are toilets around the place you can use. However, no toilet would not stop us visiting again if we were in the area, and if we lived locally, this would become my place to get my daily flat white.
Amanda W — Google review
Nice place, good food, friendly attentive service and loved the cream tea
Qaisar W — Google review
Before visiting Barnstaple, I researched cafes in the town. This family run, cosy cafe came up as an award-winning one. We therefore pre-booked our table online through their website. They stop serving breakfast at noon but we were still able to order it at 11.55am. We had a "Devon Breakfast," "Hashinator Crumpets" & scrambled eggs. All well cooked & nicely presented. We had a selection of coffees plus an OTT banana milkshake, made from ice cream & topped with cream. I also took away several of their home-made scones for later. Service was efficient & friendly. Points to note: • It is a small cafe so advance bookings are recommended - this then allocates a table to you for one hour. • It is a dog friendly cafe. • There are no toilets on site but the nearby pub allows cafe customers to use its facilities.
Julie M — Google review
Appearance and locale is unprepossessing, but the food is marvellous, absolutely top class. My wife's two poached eggs with avocado on sourdough was quite as well presented and tasty as one would find in a too class hotel. My all day breakfast had top class sausages, thick bacon, beautiful presentation. Really, it's extraordinary.

First time here and it will not be the last. Lovely little independent café/coffee shop. We only had afternoon tea and it was delicious, the scones were huge, filled me right up. Friendly approachable staff, and dogs are more than welcome.

A really lovely little cafe with a good selection of both food & drink. Very dog friendly. Our dog got treated to a full plate of food! Close to the station as well (10 mins). No toilet inside but owners told us of some close by toilets so no issue for us at all. Would 100% come back.

Capture beautiful moments with your camera and indulge in a delightful culinary experience at Maiden Arch, a charming European restaurant nestled near the River Taw. Chef-owner Robert Bryant has carefully crafted an exquisite menu that showcases both European and British cuisine. The dining area exudes a vibrant ambiance, boasting comfortable seating, flickering candles on tables, and a captivating old fireplace adorned with brick walls - creating the perfect picturesque setting reminiscent of fine dining establishments.
Fabulous atmosphere and service. The food was absolutely delicious. Every course was adapted to our culinary requirements. The wine flight was good with each course. I would avoid the oyster next time, just not to our taste. We gave it a good go but no, not again. Not expensive for the quality of the food.

The most exquisite food we have ever eaten. Dining here was absolutely joyful. Not only did each dish look like individual pieces of art, the flavours were so incredible we were all beaming with delight with every mouthful. Rob was an outstanding chef and host and it was lovely to have him explain each dish with so much pride and passion. A wonderful experience, we will definitely be returning. Much gratitude.

I had an exceptional dining experience with Robert, one that felt truly personal and memorable. Robert's passion, dedication, and deep knowledge of the local area shine through in every dish he creates. The food was flawless, each bite a testament to his skill and creativity. The service struck the perfect balance—friendly, informative, and thoroughly professional.

This restaurant surpassed my expectations in terms of the food. Every course was a work of art and tasted delicious. I was a lone diner but was made to feel very welcome by the lovely waiting staff which is often not the case. I’m here for 4 weeks and will definitely be back before I leave.

Amazing food and amazing service. The Saturday lunch we had was well priced and I have to say was a great introduction to the restaurant and we will 100% be back in a couple of weeks for the signature menu. I’d strongly encourage all locals to go here as especially in the off season we need to keep amazing places like this open. Also the fish and ox cheek were absolutely amazing.

Fabulous dining experience - beautifully prepared food in a relaxed atmosphere. First rate service from the waiting staff. The chef (Rob) is clearly passionate about what he does and has created something truly unique in North Devon. A real gem of a restaurant that should be top of your list for a special occasion.

We were booked in for the same night as the one star review. Robert rang us very apologetically to say that they couldn't open as he had to take his child to hospital. We would have done the same in putting family first in an emergency. We booked for a week later and had a wonderful time. The food, wine and service met our expectations, which was to dine at one of the best places in the Southwest. We will definitely be going back.

You know what, very sad to leave this review... nothing to do with the food, wouldn't know what that tastes like to be honest. This review is to do with the pretentious of when you make a booking here and they say if you cancel within 48hrs they will charge you £45 per person... But on the other hand it seems it absolutely fine for them to cancel the booking with three hours to go without much of an apology or an alternative place for us to eat that night....I'm sure your food is great Robert but your customer service and attitude stinks... be warned people, or at least have a back restaurant in mind when this happens to you 👎👎👎👎👎

Cedars Inn is a charming country retreat located just a short distance from the center of Barnstaple. This former country house has been transformed into a cozy pub and hotel, offering relaxed accommodations, complimentary breakfast, and picturesque gardens. The on-site restaurant and bar serve up a traditional British menu alongside an impressive selection of real ales. Guests can also enjoy the spacious beer garden, which is perfect for soaking up the sun or bringing along furry companions.
Lovely secluded location, that would be great lit up for parties/christmas.were met by Nathan and Shane who are friendly and amusing. The service was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. The Sunday roast was the best we have had.we ended up with 3 gravy boats! The waitress Aimee was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Oh the puddings were unbeatable as well. We were acknowledged as we left by a person who identified as Trouble. They make a great team and if we're in these parts again( we live in Coventry) we will definitely eat here again. Thanks Cedars for a memorable evening.

I am based in Nairobi, Kenya, and recently visited Devon for the first time during a short getaway—part of a main vacation my cousin Susanne so kindly treated me to. My stay at Cedars Inn, Barnstaple, truly made my trip sparkle. From the moment I arrived, I loved everything—the comfortable bed, the great shower, and most importantly, the restful sleep I had each night. Breakfast was an absolute highlight. Coming from Kenya, where food is naturally full of flavour, I often struggle to find a breakfast in the UK that excites me. Here, it was the best I have had in the country—delicious, satisfying, and served in a fantastic environment. The pub was well stocked and inviting, and the atmosphere throughout my stay was warm and welcoming. Every staff member radiated a genuine sense of camaraderie and connection. The crowning touch, however, was Vee. Her leadership, warmth, and professionalism made every detail of my stay shine. I have been telling everyone about Cedars Inn, Barnstaple, and I hope to return soon—next time with even more friends to share in the experience. I am back to the grind in Nairobi, truly missing my stay there.

Great food and service. Grant and Amy were fantastic, really friendly and professional. Frustrating the till system won’t allow you to give a tip in the card machine. Come on management - tips are key to motivate and reward staff - in 2025 this is must for your team

We stayed overnight and had dinner there. The rooms in the remote lodges are a bit tired but okay for a very short break. Parking good. Bar staff were happy to try to sell beer very obviously end of barrel they were trying to squeeze it out taking ages and ages. Told them to abandon it and try something else. Restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Five star to them. Food average. We would usually choose somewhere with better overall review score but we were meeting friends who had chosen to stay there as ‘low mobility friendly’, minimal steps.

We wanted a lovely night away after a stressful week, the Cedars Inn was perfect, we turned up without a booking, after being let down on a booking we had paid for at another Barnstaple Hotel. April quickly organised two perfect rooms and we had a delicious meal especially with the 20% off direct booking voucher. The rooms are really comfortable as is the bed. The breakfast was excellent, freshly baked pastries, a wide selection of hot dishes all freshly made and amazing value. Definitely the best place to stay in Barnstaple & all the staff were helpful, friendly and everything you could ask for. Thank you Cedars Inn team for saving our weekend.

We attended an event (Murder in Pink). Parking was difficult even when we went to their other carpark! Entertainment was very good and the evening was enjoyable. The pub/events space looked nice and modern. Loved the lighting and atmosphere for the event. Staff were helpful and friendly. The only disappointment was the food. It wasn't great (burnt gravy) and not much choice. I would prefer to pay £5pp more and get slightly better quality/choice. Overall, I'd book again.

Me and my friends booked tickets to the Taylor Tribute thinking it was going to solely be a Taylor swift tribute but when attending although advertised as being a Taylor Tribute the singer only sang Taylor songs for 45 minutes (she started at 8pm and finished singing Taylor at 8:45pm) and then after her break instead sang a variety of songs such as Whitney Houston and Abba? During the Taylor Swift songs she was getting the words wrong and saying they were from certain albums when they weren’t? Overall it was quite disappointing considering we had been anticipating Taylor songs ‘til midnight’ from the advertising. We got dressed up purely for Taylor Swift and then ended up looking a little silly when she only sang 7 songs. I was wondering if there is any way we could get a refund? Many thanks

This place is a total vibe! Perfect for couples, friends, and families. The food is next level - the best chicken I have tried in Devon. The staff are incredibly friendly and upbeat. The decor is quirky, which we love! The portions are huge and very fair for the price. We’ve been back time and time again and will continue to do so :)

We had the ribs . Omg ! Exceptional food. The coleslaw was fresh and not the awful stuff from a packet. The rib flavor was out of this world and so tender. The crispy onion rings are the best ever. Huge portion, excellent value for money. Lovely manager and staff . Hats off to the kitchen staff and chefs... outstanding

Awesome food in a setting like a USA Sports bar and grill. Plenty of different and unusual beers on offer. Only spoiled by the staff’s behaviour! I can’t enjoy a meal with friends while there’s bedlam going on behind as the staff are arsing and messing about. Also totally ignoring the table summoner led them to miss out on our purchase of more drinks and pudding. We had to go find someone in the end to settle up even though the staff were sat just behind us on the sofa chucking peanuts at each other. The place needs a grownup to keep them in line.

Wow! What can I say? I guess we're about to find out... Having not been here before I was pleasantly surprised by the layout and decor, lots of little cool design choices to notice during your visit, very pleasant setting all round. The staff were friendly and on point, never over present or overbearing, which gave a relaxed feel to compliment the overall layout. Now the food... Stunned to say the least, we ordered from the lunch menu, we were both very impressed by the speed, presentation and flavour flourishes presented to us. I had a cheese and bacon burger and oh my days, it was delicious! I rarely eat the salad, it was so tasty though I did. Lastly, because I'm writing a novel here, the pricing was very good, especially for the quality. Now definitely lastly, they also nailed the approach to COVID restrictions down to a T, not imposing or noticible but present none the less. Others could take note of that for sure. Well done guys 👍

A beautiful location overlooking the estuary and the perfect spot for a top-notch cream tea (plus it has a full menu). Two scones are included in the usual cream tea price (I just went for a single) and they are the fluffiest, lightest scones too 👌Friendly and happy staff make this a delightful cafe right on the fabulous Tarka Trail, so it’s a great stop-off for hikers and bikers 🚴‍♀️ 🥾

Nepalese restaurant
Indian restaurant
Nestled in Barnstaple's historic Pannier Market, Everest Gurkha Chef began as a humble food stall before blossoming into a charming restaurant. This delightful eatery specializes in authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine, crafted with care by chef Romy Rai, the first woman from the Gurkha community to earn the esteemed British Curry Award.
2 friends and myself visited this little restaurant September just gone(apologies for late posting) We all shared a plate of popadoms with the various pickles. We then had 3 mains with naan breads, I opted for the chicken sagwala which was excellent. All 3 mains were devoured with gusto, the food was piping hot and extremely tasty. The Everest Gurka is now my go to place for a curry..
John A — Google review
We had booked for 5. We had to wait whilst the staff set up our table as the person arranging tables had overlooked that we were 5. The lady dealing with us was charming and apologetic. The food we had was fine. I had the Chicken Sekuwa as a starter. The chicken was very tender and the flavour lovely. I then had the Nepalese Lamb with a keema naan. I opted to have the heat as medium as it was our first visit so I didn't know the heat strength there. That was fine - some warmth but not enough to overwhelm the flavours. The lamb was good and the sauce tasty. The keema naan was fabulous. A fluffy naan and proper meat - not dyed red as you often see. Everyone else on the table liked their dishes. I tasted the onion bhaji, seekh kebab and Himalayan chicken which were good. The restaurant is BYOB with a £1.50 charge per person for the glasses, bottle disposal etc. The only gripe was with the poppadoms. On the takeaway menu a poppadom is 95p as are the pickles. In the restaurant they charge £1.99 for each poppadom, which they claim is the poppadoms and pickle. The 5 of us ordered 10 poppadoms. We got one pickle tray. I suspect it was the same size as you would get if you ordered 2 poppadoms. They should charge a price for the poppadoms and a separate price for pickles. As it was we were charged £19.90 for 10 poppadoms and a small quantity of pickles, which is daylight robbery. Next time we will not order poppadoms as that is clearly a ludicrous charge. That said, the bill came to about £27.50 each for the poppadoms, 4 starters, 5 main courses, 2 rice, 3 naan, a vegetable dish and the corkage for 5 people, so not outrageous.

One of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. I had some time to wait for the train so I thought I would have a quick walk into Barnstaple and find some food and I totally lucked out on this amazing find. Absolutely delicious food. We had the Chicken Momos, Chicken chilli, Nepalese beef and garlic naan. The Nepalese beef was the best curry we’d ever eaten, asked for hot and it was the perfect heat level. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Dishes are reasonably priced for the size. Would recommend.

Don’t write this amazing restaurant off from the outside. It’s small, but perfectly formed! Food is amazing, best curry in the area. Friendly staff and excellent menu choices. A regular for us.
Tom C — Google review
Food was good but ruined by absolutely appalling behaviour by the waitress. We are unsure what happened however the little young girl (waitress) was screaming at the chef and her colleague. It appears that they were her parents by the looks of it. Absolutely shocked to see this especially at the restaurant with an open kitchen. The young lady doesn’t seemed bothered and so uninterested to be there. I would have sent her home right away. Please sort this before your wonderful little restaurant goes down hill.
Rosy C — Google review
Unfortunately since new owners the curries and certain sides do not taste like they used to. I used to always have chicken makani it was orange in colour and sweet. I ordered this since the new owner and it's become pale yellow, too thick and either to spicy or to creamy. I have given the chef benefits of the doubt and gone back 3 times for same thing and it's tasted different everytime. Such a shame as the last owner make it taste so great! And now the recipe has changed. The mango chutney was always orange and now it's red? Lovely owners and staff just a shame food has gone downhill so much.

Found this by accident and wasn't disappointed. The Lady and Gentleman who greeted us at the front door were very cheerful and very chirpy. A very relaxed venue and from what I could see the Cakes and Breads were home made. Extremely tasty and very good quality. Service was brilliant and my wife's Egg mayonnaise butties were thick as a door and oozed mega filling which was delicious. My cheese and ham toasty was sublime. All the drinks ( tea and coffee) were hot and tasty served in delicate tea cups. Couldn't fault the service and nice chats with the owners.

Today I had lunch at The Cream Tea Cafe. I haven’t been there for several years as I no longer live in the U.K. I had a delicious sourdough toastie with mature cheddar and chutney and a side salad. The bread, scones and cakes are all freshly baked on the premises. For dessert I couldn’t resist trying a slice of the almond, raspberry and rhubarb tart, served with clotted cream. Also enjoyed a large Americano. Support small businesses, this small friendly cafe is well worth a visit.

Fantastic hotel, character, charm, clean, and staff friendly as ever. The only issue I had is that the room needed airing as it smelt foisty. I did mention this to the lady on reception. She welcomed the honesty and said she would get someone to deal with it straight away. The location was spot on, bang in the centre, with adequate free parking. The room was so quiet. you couldn't hear a pin drop.

The staff should take a course for politeness. Mediocre food with prices that seem to go up every couple of weeks. Cheaply priced drinks so that's a bonus. Dirty toilets which smell, they must be cleaned once a week. Saturday nights seem to bring out the lairy ones ,we saw alot of digits happening with the door staff just watching. Overall it was a little better than the last time I visited. Not recommended for a quiet night out.

The Panniers - JD Wetherspoon is a spacious and bustling pub that offers a standard range of comfort food and drinks. While some patrons have had mixed experiences with the food, many find it to be better than average for a Wetherspoon establishment. The service is generally prompt, although there have been instances where tables were not cleared promptly. Despite this, the staff are often commended for their helpfulness and friendliness.
The meal was hot. The staff were helpful. Good choice of beer. Outdoor eating at the back. Ground level toilets. Child friendly. Street parking.

Usually not a bad Wetherspoons to go to - but today's experience was sub-par. It wasn't even 9AM and the place was dead quiet. Only a handful of tables were taken and the bar was empty. Yet it took almost 20 minutes to receive the food, and the egg came out looking absolutely shocking. Clearly overcooked, dry and rubbery. The bacon and sausage was also dry and lukewarm at best. Couldn't even eat it - put me off completely... I know it's only Spoons but I expect better. I would've been justified asking for a replacement but I didn't as I had already waited long enough and had things to do.

We came here mid morning recently to take a break from our sightseeing and grab a hot dink. The place was doing a roaring trade with those having either a late break, early lunch, light snack or an early start to some important beer/alcohol drinking. We just wanted coffee and hot chocolate. Whilst one of us got 4 white mugs from the bar I wheeled my mother in her wheelchair through to the walled terrace at the back making use of what appeared to be the shortest ride in an 'elevator' in modern history. It was great that so much trouble had been thought into making the place accessible to disabled people. All good!

Popped in for a quick drink and food twice in 1 week. On both occasions there were tables that were free but not one was cleared and cleaned. Food all over the place, dirty cutlery and crockery. A person eventually just collected sauces from the table. But no glasses or plates weee cleared the whole time we were there. Very off putting

I have been going to panniers for years and really feel it has gone down hill lately. We had breakfast this morning, the drinks had so much ice it has over kill. The member of staff serving the drinks fill the glasses to the top with ice then poured the drinks in the glasses. I will never order a drink with ice if this is how the drinks are going to be served. My breakfast was cold, I had a mushroom benedict the mushrooms were so small. One of the other breakfasts were egg muffins, they were really dry as the muffins weren't buttered. I don't feel it was worth the trip there.

I am so sorry to leave a bad review as I know how hard staff work and the pressures on the hospitality industry. The pub was busy, but plenty of seats available so perhaps the team were low on staff. The staff were lovely, friendly and apologised for the delays in serving drinks and food. Unfortunately the tables were not cleaned and customers cleaning tables of plates their selves. Ordered food and drinks via the app which was easy. 3 out of 4 meals arrived, apart from one which was delayed. I had a pizza which was burnt and huge dollops of tomato paste which was a massive disappointment as I enjoy a spoons pizza. Couldn't find any staff to let them know. I ate the middle of the pizza but even then it was crispy and cheese had melted to nothing. Might just be an off day for the team and won't put me off visiting other spoons establishment in the future.

I’ve been here a few times within the last couple years and have never had any issues. Staff have always been pleasant and reasonable, good set up, nice decor, good food at a reasonable price and decent service. It also Seems like it’s become a very popular place with the amount of people I’ve seen visiting Tarko over the years. Would recommend. One of my favourite places to eat when I’m out and about in town. I Will be coming here with my mum soon (hopefully within the next few days - week).

Had lunch here today and we both really enjoyed our food. I had the chicken, bacon and avocado salad, but didn't want the avocado. It was well presented and delicious. My husband had the tuna panini. He enjoyed his food too. We've been here a few times when we're in the area and have never been disappointed. Staff friendly and helpful, decor eclectic and interesting. We'll be returning in the future.

Great food at a good price. Wide variety on the menu to suit most tastes, and take special requests and change the meal in case of allergies/intolerance. Pina colada drink was very nice. Great atmosphere and plenty of seating.

Food was very good and came out quickly, servers and staff were nice, place has a cosy atmosphere. Only problem was their system went down and drinks were going to the wrong tables, however it was quickly sorted out.

The food was good, service wasn’t. The staff were wearing unprofessional outfits, men in shorts and really not a good way of serving customers. I had to stand on a long queue by the bar area, queue was blocking the way for other customers and waiters bringing food out

Tiffin, an Indian restaurant that is highly recommended for its superb cuisine and excellent service, has garnered praise from many satisfied customers. The food at Tiffin is truly exceptional, with authentic flavors that are expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The portions are generous, making it a challenge to finish one's meal but impossible to resist picking at the delicious leftovers. Whether for lunch or dinner, Tiffin offers a delightful dining experience in a sophisticated and clean setting.
Travelled and planned around visiting for anniversary meal (based on review) Well worth it. Setting is vibrant and sophisticated, yet relaxed. Tuesday night and still a good buzz of different groups. Host was friendly and attentive when needed (although very busy) We tried some new dishes for us, and they were great. Wanted to try the sprouts, but out of season so asked what recommended. Host suggested the hot bean salad with cashews - wow! We ate most of this before touching mains! It seems it's a family recipe which makes us wish to travel back when sprouts in season! Prices were fair and overall a lovely evening.

You’re met with a stunning exterior and interior design and a lovely greeting. The menu is simple and enticing, I ordered the mutton curry which is served with a naan and rice, along with the gunpowder potatoes. The lamb was tender and silky, the rice was ace and the peshwari was the best ever. The gunpowder potatoes were not as explosive as expected, well spiced and tasty. This was a super experience with amazing attentive staff and a superb atmosphere. Thank you to all!

Went on a Tuesday evening in early May 25. Restaurant was busy. Booking in advance is advised (which we had done). We ordered drinks, a starter to share, a curry dish each, and a pudding to share. Could not fault any of it. Mutton Curry and Miolee Prawn dishes were delicious and the best currys we have had in a long time. Peshawari Naan was awesome. Dishes are very generous, so they will do a smaller portion if you ask in advance. Restaurant is really nicely decorated. Warm and friendly with enough space between tables so you don't feel like you're packed in. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Starters arrived quickly, and enough time was given between courses arriving.
Bruce G — Google review
Quite simply one of the best Indian meals we have had. Taj and the team looked after my wife and I as soon as we arrived, made food recommendations - which delivered beyond expectations - and engaged in friendly banter in between dishes. Highly recommended!
Daniel H — Google review
Great spot for a dinner with friends. Flavours and ingredients were all super fresh. Rice was cooked beautiful and love the accompanying picked onion and cucumber salad with the dinner. Portions are very fair. I had fish Pakora, mutton curry and poppadom with rice. I would have loved to have to ordered a small raita but it was huge and it was just me that tried it. I would say that the flavours were great but would've loved a little seasoning. The Naan breads my friends had looked fresh homemade and stunning. The fish Pakora batter also needed a little more seasoning but the accompanying dip was beyond divine. Fantastic! The service was efficient, fast and friendly. We really enjoyed our evening. Thank you so much for a lovely time.

Outstanding feels like an understatement to describe the experience at Tiffin. The food is incredible, every single element stands out as being amazing. The service is absolutely unmatched. One of the finest meals out I can ever remember. Perfection

Market
Barnstaple Pannier Market, also known as the historic Pannier Market, has a rich history dating back over 1,000 years. Originally established in the 1800s to provide a designated site for market traders, it was named after the large baskets called panniers that farmers' wives and daughters used to carry their produce of vegetables and dairy products. Today, this iconic market hosts a variety of events including regular markets featuring local produce and street food.
Great refurbishment. Visited on a Tuesday but unfortunately not many stalls open. Am told it’s usually much busier on a Friday. I can imagine when all the businesses are open it would be very attractive

Built in the 1800s. Has just had a face-lift. Half the space is for local business's and have is a space to sit and relax. The toilets are brand new and always super clean.

Lots to see and do around the market. Street art featuring drunken, swearing and unconscious middle-aged men always fills one with joy.
Russell D — Google review
We took the chance to stroll through this market hall earlier in July - a Thursday. I was quite surprised to see that it was quite empty with only half the space occupied with stalls. Most, if not all of these were selling bric a brac of one kind or another. I recall the large stall selling jig saw puzzles and others selling textiles, cheap electronic goods etc. I had hoped to see some fruit and vegetable stores and the odd meat stall but no... Never mind. The old building itself is impressive and worth taking a look at.

Wimpy is a charming eatery that has stood the test of time, offering a delightful menu filled with burgers, mixed grills, and other comfort food favorites. Recently, I decided to revisit this nostalgic spot after many years and was pleasantly surprised by the warm atmosphere and friendly staff who made me feel right at home. The restaurant boasts a clean and tidy environment with plenty of seating options available.
Me and the wife popped in for lunch as we've both never experienced a wimpy. 1st impressions of the restaurant were clean and tidy and ample amounts of seating available. Tables were clean, no mess on the floors or under the tables or on the seats. Waitresses are all happy and friendly and we're ready available if you needed them. They took our order and nothing was too much hassle for them. Kitchen staff worked like clock work watching them was an art, and when the dishes where served the waitresses came and took them straight away so there were not a chance for them to sit under the heat lamps waiting to be served. Food came freshly cooked and was piping hot and delicious. The portion sizes are not to be sniffed at for the prices you pay. Would definitely recommend coming here for a bite to eat if you are in Barnstaple.

I love Wimpy, and I may be biased but I think Barnstaple's is the best! It has such a modern feel, the table service is always excellent, and the food never disappoints. It is always hot and freshly cooked to order. Their thick shakes are the highlight for me, so tasty. In a time where so many names are closing or moving out of town, it is so nice to still have somewhere like Wimpy in Barnstaple town :)

Great food and outstanding service! We haven’t had a Wimpy for probably 15 years so we drove the 50 miles from Exeter for a treat. All the staff are very friendly and Sam made us extremely welcome. We had the classic Half Pounder and Mega Burger with Chips accompanied with Banana Milkshakes. All the food was delicious and would definitely recommend giving them a try. I just wish there was a branch on Exeter.

Nestled conveniently near the lively Barnstaple train station, Station Masters Cafe is a charming daytime spot that caters to both food lovers and dog owners. This delightful cafe serves up hearty full English breakfasts alongside an array of hot beverages, iced coffees, and smoothies—perfect for those on the go or looking to unwind. With its inviting atmosphere and dog-friendly policies, it’s an ideal retreat for pet owners wanting to enjoy a meal or coffee in good company.
Food is amazing! Great selection and really good quality. Totally unexpected for a railway cafe.

This little cafe is within Barnstaple station. They have a variety of hot beverages, iced coffees & smoothies to either take-away or in the cafe. They have a great selection of home-made cakes, scones, biscuits & flapjacks. Indoor seating is available plus outdoor seating in a pretty courtyard, just off the station platform. Service was friendly & helpful.
Julie M — Google review
This review is a bit of a quandary for me. Having worked on the railway for many years, Barnstaple was one of my regular destinations. Arriving at Barnstaple on an early morning train, the crew would all rush into the Station Master's Cafe for a full English before heading back on our return trip. It was one of the best perks we had. Now retired, I still pop in for a full English when on a shopping trip to Barnstaple. Sadly though now I have to say the full English breakfast is nothing more than a rip off. Whilst the Cafe itself is a lovely place, the staff are cheerful and they have an amazing selection of cakes and pastries (including gluten-free) the last breakfast we had there has finished us as customers. Now my wife has the gluten-free full English, which costs the same as a normal one...BUT, as it's gluten-free it doesn't come with the black pudding, and the peice of gluten-free toast she had was the same size as one half of the sourdough peice I had. Basically she had less than me, but for the same price of £12.95. I also compared the photo I took of our previous visit in February 1st 2025 to this most recent visit of June 23rd 2025. (See image in photo file) the February breakfast was almost double the amount of the June offering. The amazing thing is, if you exclude the small peice of gluten-free free toast, my wife's breakfast was identical to a Weatherspoons small breakfast that costs just £2.99. Safe to say the next visit to Barnstaple will result in a breakfast at the local Weatherspoon's and a £20 saving on our bill. Whilst we fully understand the points put forward by the owner of the Station Master Café in reference to the cost of running the café itself. They should also understand that the cost of living has risen for everyone and therefore he may also “wish to take account of this” before adjusting his menu such as halving the number items of the breakfast whilst keeping the price inflated….I believe the term for this is “Shrinkflation”. As for gluten-free food being more expensive, yes, I was already aware of this. However, seeing as everything on my plate except the black pudding and bread was also gluten-free it might be better to do away with the black pudding and just have one breakfast for both. The saving on the pudding would likely offset the cost of the one small piece of gluten-free bread!
Cleric P — Google review
Great cafe. Friendly staff. Just don't go anywhere near the station platform on your pushbike. You will be SHOUTED at by a very grumpy, unhelpful member of the station staff. Leave your bike chain up away from unhappy people and relax in the nice clean cafe. With Friendly people. Staff and guests.
Shaun M — Google review
We went there to try this cafe as weve already been to most of the cafes in the town , so tried this as its in the station. But we dint have a good experience on that day, the lady at the counter was not a happy young lady at the time :) , the lads were giving better vibe than her. And unfortunately we were served the end of the cake, which we never experienced being displayed even in all the cake shops weve been to, and its a tiny portion plus end part.unfortunately there’s no Option here to post a picture. Its still saved in my gallery. And yea, prices would have been worth it if serving portions were worth the price too. But coffee was good and place in the garden was nice.
Arianne A — Google review
First of all: Bacon Sandwich and a cup of tea coffee £9 Secondly: "Hi there, I'd like a bacon sandwich and a coffee" Server: "I'm sorry, the kitchen is shut Monday to Friday" "What? Why do you have a menu advertised?" Server: "We could take a sandwich out of the chiller cabinet and heat it up if you like?" So it would have been £9 for a second hand sandwich... Typically Devon, typically pitiful.

Great cafe, superb service from the ladies working today and really impressed at how quickly they were able to advise on gluten products for a coeliac person - even stocking gluten free bread! We had a large group of us visit, over 15 of us. They booked us in which was great. They gave us a big area and there were enough tables and chairs. The food was very tasty. We had a 3 tier and Tea for 2 people but it is enough food for 3 people's realistically. However they were happy for us to take leftovers home. We only had one serving of teapots, it would have been nice to have a 2nd pot of tea or filter coffee per 2 people. Some of us had speciality brewed coffees as our 2nd drink was very nice, we paid extra for these which was ok as not included in the deal. Other customers seemed happy and the staff were pleasant and worked hard. It was generally clean too. I will go again one day.

The staff were friendly and efficient, good service. Family friendly, good for all ages. The breakfast options are good. I had the fish chowder on the specials board, excellent. Overall a good experience. One downside, I did not like the tea, I think it was made from tap water, if you drink tea with no milk or sugar I would not recommend that.

Takeout Restaurant
Silver Tree Thai Cuisine is a delightful spot for those craving authentic Thai flavors, offering a range of delicious takeaways available for collection or delivery through platforms like Deliveroo and Just Eat. This charming establishment has evolved into a unique fusion of restaurant and supermarket, where you can not only enjoy tasty dishes but also purchase various Oriental food ingredients to inspire your culinary adventures at home. While the dining experience has shifted away from fine dining, the essence of traditional Thai cuisine remains intact, albeit with a slightly sweeter profile.
The restaurant has merged into a Thai supermaket. So no fine in option anymore. But food is still authentic but on the sweet side. The shop is a little hard to find on Google map and the supermarket sells lots of different Chinese and Thai food. A little restaurant that really cooks Thai food although on the sweet side but those looking for real spicy should look no further. The duck spring rolls are good and the other fried noodles dishes are not oily which was not easy to make without burning them. The papaya salad tasted just like that in Thailand (on the sweet side). Reasonable prices, Thai food aren't supposed to be expensive.

We are away on holiday here and choose to eat from here as the reviews were good. Unfortunately the food didn't match the majority of the reviews 🫣 Tofu in the pad thai had a weird taste/smell about it. I've eaten from a lot of Thai restaurants but never tasted as bad as this. The English delivery driver made my son in law come up the road to the pub to pick up our food! 😡 We had paid for delivery through the app! This man said he was deaf and didn't hear so well on the phone 😏Why's he working if he can't get the logistics of the job right. They didn't enjoy their chewy beef and none of us enjoy congealed noodles.

Absolutely fantastic meal, came home late and ordered a delivery, food arrived exactly on time and still hot. Tasted fantastic, well done to the chef, chicken velveted perfect, Bean sprouts were perfect and could not fault the meal. Whoever was in the kitchen deserves the credit for such a wonderful meal.

Always had good, fast service here. After ordering over the phone, the food is often ready to collect in 15/20mins. Food is nice and fresh, can't go wrong. No more expensive than any other chinese in the area.

Do not buy from them! As you can see it’s discussing! Ordered a beef satay and i got horrible chicken soaking in oil. Waste of money! We throw everything away!

The best Chinese takeaway food. It was absolutely fabulous. Well done & thank you
Sheila R — Google review
Ordered a takeaway for me and my family, delivery was quick but when opening we found metal wire stuck in a prawn, when pulled out a 4 inch piece of wire came out, luckily I noticed it before my elderly grandmother ate it. Phoned up and got offered the same dish or £8 off my next delivery, I don’t think either of these 2 options match up with this issue here.

Been coming here for years! Always cooked fresh and authentic from the owners, a small business that’s takes pleasure in what they do. They’ve worked so hard and you can tell, it’s perfection each time, and they are very good with dietary restrictions or just taking out what you don’t like! 10/10 recommend, never liked a Chinese takeaway before this one
Taylor P — Google review
Disgusting. As a Chinese family, raised in takeaways, we are disgusted by the abominable service, and the food was poor quality, too. The wrong order delivered, we telephoned immediately, the staff said ''my bad' but would not complete the order. We had paid for delivery and one person's meal was absent. Over £26 on the order, and only a 3 mile delivery for the business. The "manager" was extremely rude (he spoke as if he was auditioning for The Apprentice - abrasive, patronising and unprofessional.) He spoke about us, whilst on the phone, to an audience, declaring us 'rude customers' and deriding the fact that we were unhappy with not receiving an order, stating 'we are here to make money, don't you understand that?' 'We're a business, we need to make money'. He repeatedly asserted how minor our order was to them (even though t was very important to us), was demeaning, and stating 'don't you understand the cost of fuel? It would cost us £5 to deliver now'. It does not cost £5 to drive 3 miles. We had paid for delivery. We had paid for the components of the meal that were rendered useless because of the missing accompaniments. The food that was delivered was rubbery and poor quality. With 22 years in the Chinese Takeaway business, this is an area I know very well indeed. I would not recommend The Power to anyone. (And they state cash payments only.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stopped in at this lovely Barnstaple café and was really impressed. A great location right in the heart of town — easy to find and perfect for a relaxed break. It’s a well-run caf with a varied menu to suit any mood. I had the half tuna mayo sandwich — fresh, tasty, and just the right size — paired with a bowl of minestrone soup that absolutely hit the spot. There’s plenty of space inside, and I snagged a table with a great High Street view. Add in genuinely friendly table service and you’ve got the full package. Simply the best!

I’m honestly not sure what to make of it, i don’t normally make reviews but…..there where 4 orders in total, I ordered brown bread gammon and cheese sandwich i was sent white bread, the cheese was cut in slabs, with one speck of blue welded to it so i can only assume to be mould. There was a thick layer of butter on one side of bread which made it soggy. The best part was i ordered sweet potato fries and they packed them together! they put them in the same container! they lay the sandwich on top of the chips! the bread was sloshing and warm! the sweet potato fries smelt like fat and where really hard, honestly one of the worst foods i’ve had, i didn’t eat it. Who packs a sandwich like that! it was flopped on top a squeezed down. They also missed a drink. The other sandwich was prepared the same way. The other food wasn’t as bad not great cold and not very inviting. The order was expensive and terrible for the price we will not be ordering from here again.

Cappuccino was bigger than the Cappuccino I expected, more was like a Latte. But it is okey because normally people like to have big cup of coffee with lots of milk instead of propper coffee. But breakfast meal was perfect

Ordered from uber eats food was well portioned however their baguettes are the part baked ones which arrived doughy and dense and rather unpleasant and it’s such a shame that they don’t bake them at start of each day they take only 15-20 minutes each and could easily be done

Placed an order early evening on a Thursday. Simple order of only one burger and chips. Took over two hours to be delivered. I called to explain location as Uber Eats do not track this delivery. Second time I called to ask about delivery, guy shouted at me. Did call again 2 more times (seems excessive but was only a burger). Not a good experience

Ordered online but the food hasn’t been delivered even after 2 hours. So I went to the restaurant it turns out they don’t have a courier and the order was just sitting there, meaning that If I never went there the food would be there wasted. Went home then realised that I was missing a lot of sauces. Went there again and they wouldn’t give me the sauces and said that I was lying. Please save yourself by never ordering from here.

Local, friendly pub. Two sides of the pub to separate 'bar' side from the dining room (dogs allowed in the bar but not the dining room). Skittles alley out the back and a covered outside area with fireplaces to keep you warm in winter. Plenty of space for events of ~50 people. Great food and even offer BBQ.

I live in Wales and have beautiful scenery, culture, eateries, inns and love their options of home made food. When I visit Devon for a holiday I always take a bee-line for Barnstaple for personal reasons as I love the history there and some lovely places to visit nearby and its beautiful beaches. What stands out mostly for me and is a must have and do is to visit this pub.The meals are home made from fresh and at a great price. Their roast dinners are the best I have ever tasted and plentiful which is one of the reasons why I do go back. The Landlord and Landlady there are so friendly and the place has a great friendly atmosphere there and you will feel very comfortable with the local drinkers too. I highly recommend this place and is a must visit if you are ever in Barnstaple.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Ali's Alcove. I recently indulged in their jemmy twitcher paired with spicy chips, and it was an explosion of flavors that left me craving more. The menu boasts a fantastic variety of meats and dishes at prices that won't break the bank. Their pizzas also caught my eye as they were being served up to other patrons—definitely something to try next time!
Flew down from Scotland for boxing, hungry and tired and this was across from hotel. Ordered Italiano burger and it was delicious, best iv tasted in a while. Friendly staff willing for a chat after a long flight. Would definitely return if back in area

Ordered a Chicken pizza and believe me I could hardly find a few small Chicken pieces. It was more margarita pizza than a Chicken Special. 😂 The Cheese Chips was a very small portion for 3:50£, seriously 😒.
M K — Google review
Absolutely disgusting. The pizza was undercooked and incredibly greasy and the doner meat literally had grease pouring out of the box as we took it out of the bag. I have never tasted food so vile!
Courtney J — Google review
Had a lukewarm kebab that appeared to have been thrown from a distance into the box. I did ask for sauce but they put so much I. That it was soggy and in edible. Will definitely never go there again. I’m guessing the 5 star reviews are like the false ones on Amazon !
Louise O — Google review
Wanted a chicken kebab. Didn't have a choice on sauces, had to pick one. When it arrived, it was swimming in sauce, the salad was shredded to fine pieces and the whole thing looked so unappetising that I lost my appetite almost immediately
Sean L — Google review
Ordered this evening, really cheap compared to other takeaways and better tasting, value for money and portion size is incredible. Fast delivery and unlike most delivery drives they came straight to our flat door at the top to deliver that made it easier due to having a baby. Highly recommended and looking forward ordering again 👌
A B — Google review
Absolutely terrible, I cannot believe that the staff in this shop would send out the food they have to me this evening. They clearly have no standards. I have heard about places like these but guess I could consider myself lucky up til now having not ever had to experience one. I don’t write a lot of reviews unless it was particularly terrible or particularly good. I understand how much effect these reviews have on small businesses, but after their performance this evening, I just can’t keep quiet as I wouldn’t want anybody else wasting their hard earned money on what they may see as a little treat, while the cost of living is so high. How these con artists can accept money off people for the food they produce is beyond me. You couldn’t pay me to dine with Ali’s alcove again. To start, on just eat it stayed free garlic bread or bottle with orders over £18. This did not materialise. A shame but not the end of the world. The delivery driver very quickly handed me the food and scurried off abruptly, which at the time I didn’t think much of… now I know why! DO NOT ORDER THE FRIED CHICKEN!! It’s not what you’d expect… it’s not coated in eleven nor even one herb or spice… okay fair enough it didn’t state it was, but I expected a little more than just chicken thighs and a drumstick chucked into a deep fat fryer with the basket on top, so the bottom side is left to burn for half an hour at 200 degrees. In all honesty the chicken is what lead me to write this review. Dry, burnt, flavourless, greasy pucks of chicken carcass. Yum. I also ordered the large donner meat and chips. First off; it is not by a long shot a large portion. Garlic sauce was watery and very sparse. For some reason they decided to put mozzarella on the chips also… my least favourite cheese. It was gelatinous and not a welcome addition to the salty greasy kebab meat and soggy chips I was presented with for £7. My girlfriend ordered a pizza. Which she rated a 4/10 as it was greasy and bland. She did however on a lighter note say her cheesy chips were nice. So I guess there’s at least one positive nearly £30 later. Anyway… moral of the story is, don’t do it. Order from somewhere else that will value your custom and not have the audacity to send/serve you food anywhere near the standard that the staff of Ali’s alcove believe to be acceptable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Please don’t waste your money. I have taken pictures but not sure how to upload them.
Hayden T — Google review
A disgrace to Turkish cuisine. How you can brand yourself as ‘Turkish’ is beyond me. You clearly strive for the cheapest food you can cook and easiest way to prepare. The mixed ‘kebob’ was inedible and frankly disgusting. Wouldn’t order again even if I was starving. If your target market is drunk white people at 4am then fine but don’t false advertise online.

Kebab meat always cold. Such a shame as otherwise great kebab. Have moaned twice but not improved. Them seem to be in denial. Chilli sauce not spicy enough either.
Peter B — Google review
Last night, i had the most awful of evenings, i ordered a lamb kebab with cheesy chips and i cant say my stomach is happy, the cheese was not melted and i may aswell of just ordered normal chips. Not only this, the lamb kebab was so oily i had ended up spending the evening gripping the toilet. But this is only the beginning. The workers were so rude and nasty ive had to go to a one off therapy session just to recover from the harm to my mental health and bottom. I am well and truly upset with this Barum takeaway experience. I am not usually the type of person to leave reviews, but after this experience, i want to warn everyone that mental health is more important than an oily kebab.
Ebbon G — Google review
Went to barum takeaway last night. I ordered 4 piece chicken and spiced chips, when I head them say it costs £10.50 I was outraged. Ever since I ate the chicken I have had crippling diarrhoea. I have never left a bad review before but the food was so rancid and the chicken poisonous, I felt it was my duty to share my experience. Ive not been able to leave the house all morning because I’ve been glued to the toilet.

These people rip there customers off. Don't go in if you've had a drink they inflate there prices. When confronted they get very defensive and accuse you of racist remarks. Maybe get a free course in customer service they are a plentiful online. Food average.
Chunki M — Google review
It’s such a shame about Barum takeaway, we’ve ordered here for over 10 years but the place has drastically gone downhill, first it started with them changing their chicken sandwich a few years back, it used to taste like an amazing fillet of chicken breast coated beautifully, now you can pick up better frozen chicken burgers from Iceland. Then the place became super expensive and now to put the final nail in the coffin they only give you half as much donna kebab meat as they used too which tastes way saltier now. What a shame I hope they read this and take these things in to consideration, but for now we’ve actually found Iceland warehouse kabab meat is actually better, way cheaper and easy to cook for a Friday treat. Shame but saving big dollar at least!

The Sub rolls were filled with our choice of a large menu, warmed and served in a insulated cardboard sleeve. The were gorgeous! It's a shame, that the surroundings were not so good- as inside a service station. They probably have places of their own, but we sat and ate them there anyway . Will not bother with Burgers etc in future.

Absolutely disgusted by the service provided. Waited 10-15mins queuing up. Once ordering my food, I asked for tangy cheese nachos, then I was given plain tortilla crisps out of a container and slopped into a cardboard box without a lid. To then be asked what I wanted on it? This employee didn't know what came on the nachos, so I explained what was on it. Once he had cooked this I then questioned a second time if it was tangy cheese as you could see this was not. He said well its the only crisps I no and haven't been taught anything on nachos. Then I was feeling sorry for him. I'd explained that its normally a bag of doritos of the flavour chosen with all the topping stated on the board. He said I can remake them. I kindly answered please as its not what ive requested. Once he had remade these. I then got to the till to be charged £4.49 for these nachos, but on the screen they were advertised as £3.09. I explained I was not paying this price when they are stated different. For him to then huff and puff, so he then changed the price to £3.19 which still didn't match the price. ( I paid this price as I couldn't be bothered to keep on.) Staff need better training on food, and till. Poor.

Went into Subway on Sunday 19/10/25 and waited half an hour for service as the worker was so slow making 6 subs for 3 different customers before me. Customer before ordered meatballs and he obviously didn't change his gloves because on my chicken sub there were dots of meatballs sauce inside and on the bread. Wrong bread on one sub. Coffee machine needed cleaning so after waiting half an hour to order 2 sub meals I had to have an alternate drink. Complete waste of £20

A nice, warm and lovely day out and stop at subway for a footlong Italian spicy choice of mine, its my first time having a subway here in uk, and when the crew ask me what i want, i said footlong ( i thought thats it ) and he ask what i want for it, and i said anything can you recommend me because its my first time and he choose me one idea, and i choose the rest and the result was best . Yum 🤤

Quite literally the worst sandwich I've ever had. Stale bread. Slow service. Old ingredients that tasted like rubber. Sorry but... awful. Just awful. Not exactly cheep either. I'd have had better luck with the petrol station sandwiches.

Firstly - take note that despite the very large illuminated sign visible on the main road saying "Subway open 24 hours" they are not. And I have been in at 10pm to be told they are already closed when even the Subway website says they are open until 11pm. Otherwise it's a Subway and when they are open and prepared to serve you it's as good as any other - which in my view is good.

The shop was empty, I was the only customer. I ordered 2 dishes plus rice and waited 20 mins until ready. The sesame prawn toasts were good. Dish 104 (Chicken with ginger & spring onions)wasn't tasty enough, as no detectable ginger noted, also not nearly enough sauce/fluid in the dish. It was disappointing!

This town center establishment in Weymouth, Dorset is known for its inclusive ambiance and good food offerings.
What a great bar. Nice friendly staff. A great place to watch sports. Plenty of things to do. A good crowd if you like playing pool. Friendly locals, kid friendly and dog friendly too. A traditional bar in the heart of Barnstaple

Not very nice, needs massive refurb. Garden disgusting, toilets disgusting and £6.50 for a pint of 1664 to add insult to injury.

Dreadful!! Nipped in for a quick pint whilst on our holidays at around lunchtime. The pub was still dirty from the night before. Lack of pump ales so had to opt for the bottle, on reflection, it was the safer option. Garden very untidy and full of weeds! It's such a shame to see such a good pub back in the day go to rack and ruin. Bar staff was very smiley.
Sal S — Google review
This is a quiet place at the very end of the high street. I've never seen it too busy, but it's a comfortable and cosy place. The staff are friendly and helpful. Other customers appear to be friendly and welcoming. The thing that I like most about this place is the 2 pool tables. So far they are the best for a game in barnstaple town centre. They also have league games here. Alcohol prices are very reasonable too compared to other pubs and bars that I have visited in barnstaple

Friendly i would say its for the more older people, having said that they have a great jukebox and sometimes live music, Lanlords friendly but wont put up with fools friendly bar staff in all.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of the community, Fatbelly Fred's Fish & Seafood Restaurant is a charming family-run establishment that prides itself on serving up the freshest local seafood. With a menu featuring delectable options like lobster, mussels, and crab sourced from nearby Appledore, this award-winning eatery has something for everyone.
Absolutely fantastic experience. We ordered the seafood platter and paella main for takeaway and Geoff was so helpful in making sure our order was exactly as we wanted. He clearly takes great pride in his work and the results were delicious. The platter came with lots of extra bits and sauces. The crab, lobster, mussels and oysters were particular favourites. Highly recommend - hopefully we can visit again soon!
Kat C — Google review
Very friendly family run place with great food and a very nice Freds beer. Portions great, cooked very well at good prices. They aim to please and hit the spot. Well worth a visit if you enjoy seafood even if its a little out of your way. After 6 the local car park is free and its a few minute to the door. Will be going back next time I am in the neighbourhood.

We went to Fatbelly Fred's looking for gluten-free food (my partner) and fish (me) and we were not disappointed on either score. We found an excellent range of gluten-free food cooked and served by people who don't just say the words but who know about the difficulties of gluten-free eating. No danger of cross-contamination here! I'd never had dab before so I asked our lovely young waiter what sort of fish it was and, instead of flannelling like most waiters who really mean 'I have no idea' he went to check and was replaced by the chef who gave us chapter and verse about the dab and its provenance. If you want lovely seafood imaginatively cooked and charmingly served I can't recommend Fatbelly Fred's highly enough. And gluten free to boot - what's not to like?!

Looking for somewhere to eat whilst on business and chanced upon Fatbellys. Shared the mixed fish dishes with a colleague. Great value and well cooked. Had a chat with the owner/chef after who is clearly committed to an ethos of using local produce cooked well. Service was great, nice place to spend a couple of hours. It deserves to do well. Good luck Fatbellys

Located in the heart of Barnstaple, The New Amsterdam is a charming pizza parlor with a unique interior and an impressive menu featuring hand-stretched pizzas catering to various preferences, including vegan options. The staff is known for their professionalism and warm hospitality, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. Visitors praise the inclusive environment and thoughtful gestures such as providing fidget aids. The restaurant's cool decor adds to its appeal, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing and enjoyable meal.
Great pizza, even better welcome/service. Went in for pizza and discovered it was 2 for 1 Thursday. Had two great pizzas - well cooked, nice crisp base and well-proportioned toppings. Food was nice, but what made the evening great was the welcome and service from the staff. Initially welcomed by Daisy, before she handed over to Millie. Last person we met was Ellie. Absolutely fantastic service - all three ladies were so cheerful, warm and welcoming. The food can be good in any restaurant, but it’s the service that makes the real difference. Whoever hired these ladies chose wisely. Genuinely nice folks made our evening a real pleasure. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Barnstaple.

What a great find, I popped in for a quick lunch to be greeted by super friendly and welcoming staff. I ordered a pepperoni pizza for the absolute bargain price of £7. I’ve eaten a fair few pizzas in my time and this one was certainly up there with the best of them! I wholeheartedly recommend this little treasure of a restaurant.
Carole C — Google review
Great atmosphere for somebody visiting somewhere called 'The New Amsterdam'. I really think that some folk should know themselves well enough to look at the exterior of the building and the signage, and make a conscious choice of whether this place is for them or not before entering. Came for lunch while on a family holiday in Devon. We were drawn in from outside, it looks cool, has character and the food was great. Pepperoni Pizza was lovely and the base of the pizza was great! The baked Mac and cheese was extremely hot but also delicious! The Cuban sandwich and the Sloppy Joe were delicious and a decent sized portion to keep one going. The salmon dipping board was excellent with the focaccia being a winner! All in all, very worthwhile and the service was great if a little understaffed. Music was brilliant, not for everybody but we certainly enjoyed it. Ellie made some great choices and made us feel very welcome. I'd come back again if ever in Barnstaple.
Chris W — Google review
Had the best pizza I've ever tasted here for a hen do in August so was really excited to bring my family here. I ordered the exact same pizza as I did last time but it was completely different. The beetroot was diced up to the size of small diced swede last time but this time was in very large chunks, to the width of the outside of an orange segment and the 'crispy' pork belly was completely soft like slugs whereas last time it was lovely and crunchy. I told the waiter who said they'd cook another one. This was taking quite some time and everyone else had finished their pizzas; my husband also had a long black hair in his pizza. In the end I had to leave with my 18month old, leaving behind my husband and older child to wait for my new pizza to be cooked and boxed up. The replacement pizza had lovely crunchy pork but almost no cheese at all (at least three slices with absolutely no cheese) and still very large thick pieces of beetroot. Such a shame as the last visit was so good but I can't risk paying £56 (no goodwill gesture offered) for two pizzas, two children's pizzas and only two drinks for it to be poor quality. I guess it depends on the chef that day as the pizzas are quite different each time. The staff were lovely and provided colouring in and crayons for my two children, just a shame about the food.
Lauren B — Google review
Booked a table online easily, nice website with the menus on to see what's on offer before you arrive. Arrived on time and shown to a table upstairs. You can view the menu on the website or there is a paper option aswell which is handy as we didn't get very good signal and couldn't load the menu online. A great choice and everything sounded lovely. We went with chicken wings and cauliflower wings as a starter. It did take 30 minutes for the starter to arrive. There was a large group finishing off when we arrived so it may have been very busy before. When the starter plates had been collected we ordered two mock tails. There is a huge drinks menu so there is sure to be something for everyone. However they didn't show up and neither did the main course. Another half hour passed and I managed to ask another waitress for the missing drinks. Upstairs there was just us and a table of two, I checked downstairs and it was nearly empty so I don't know why both the starter and the main took so long. The drinks arrived, 2 mocktails. Nice enough and well presented but over priced at just over £5 each compared to similar on offer at other local places. We arrived at 2:45 and our mains arrived just gone 4. Unfortunatly by this point 2 of the kids had been filling up on drinks as they were hungry and lost their apetite so eat hardly any. The food was very nice, childrens cheese and bacon pizza, chicken and broccoli cheesy pasta and a Mr Mcgreger pizza. The pasta was a huge portion so you won't be disappointed there and everything tasted very nice. It was a shame at the waste due to the time. We finished 4:30 and decided against desert incase it took equally as long. Every single member of staff we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. We did however feel perhaps forgotten upstairs, we saw people come in after us and eat and leave before we even had our mains. It was very quiet upstairs with staff rarely comming up I suppose as no need? More communication from staff with the kitchen to pass onto us to let us know it was cooking would have helped, admittedly by 4pm we had decided to leave but the food came up just as we were gathering our things. Probably better if you've got a few hours to have a long drawn out meal, not suited if you've got hungry kids. The website says when you book what time your expected to leave though they will make exceptions if requested. Our leave time was 4:45 and going by how long everything had taken previously desert would have been served at 5 possibly. Again the staff are all lovely but something wasn't going well in the kitchen and communication could have been a lot better. It was over £80 in the end for 1 adult and three children, with 2 meals wasted pretty much. Not something we could repeat. Like I said the drinks menu is very good, some over priced but I reckon that's the main positive. Food is nice with good sized portions, just very slow with no communication. As a group of adults I would say give it a try, families possibly not. We also had our used glasses and the bottles the drinks came in left taking up space on the table, nobody offered to take the clearly empty ones away which was a shame and I forgot to ask when helping the kids.

I’ve never been disappointed with a meal or take away from the New Amsterdam! The cocktails are beautiful and the menu is varied and caters for all palettes! They were really accommodating when I ordered from them for my class’s pizza party at the end of term.

Probably the best vegan pizza I've ever had. My partner had a vegan pizza too but with a gluten free base and it was incredible. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff too. If we didn't live so far away, we'd go once a week.

A lovely place. The staff are so professional, hospitable and warm, they create a really welcoming, inviting, and inclusive environment. The food is good, the decor’s very cool, but the brilliant staff make the place. We visited as a neurodiverse group & the staff even left two fidget aids on the table. The staff obviously enjoy working as a team, and they create such a lovely atmosphere, we’d recommend The New Amsterdam for anyone seeking a relaxing, fun, chill and happy meal. Thank you!

Greggs is a delightful chain bakery that specializes in an array of baked goods, including fresh breads, savory snacks, sandwiches, and sweet treats. On a recent sunny day in Barnstaple, I stopped by for a quick bite and was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. The atmosphere was inviting as I enjoyed a delicious omelette roll paired with an Americano coffee—an ideal way to kick off the day! The attentive team ensured that all COVID regulations were followed while providing excellent service.
Put a large order in on behalf of my company, and dealt with a lady called Carrie (hope I've got her name correct) she was brilliant. Put in an order for 50 Baps with 24 hours notice and it was ready exactly when she said, my staff really enjoyed them .

I thought this would be an ideal stop for a cheap coffee having had one before... if you think the coffee here is good, try it black... very chemically nasty tasting coffee without the milk to hide it. Please get better quality tasty coffee for those who enjoy the flavour! Although It's likely i would not find out you changed it after this but for my fellow black coffee drinkers it would be appreciated I'm sure!

During my recent visit to Barnstaple, I stumbled upon the delightful Barnstaple Bakery, where I indulged in a hearty pasty lunch. The large steak pasty was not only delicious but also generously filled with high-quality meat and vegetables, all encased in rich, buttery pastry. The friendly and efficient service made the experience even more enjoyable. Barnstaple Bakery truly stands out for its impressive selection of baked goods.
Went here today for a pasty lunch whilst visiting Barnstaple. I had a large steak for £5.20. It was delicious. A decent portion and fantastic fillings - the meat and veg were excellent quality. The pastry was rich and buttery. I'd definitely recommend 🙌🏻 The service was friendly and efficient.

Came here today on our first day on holiday. We ordered a few cakes and some pastries which were lovely. We also ordered some hot drinks. My mum ordered a decaf black americano however we discovered that they had put milk in her coffee despite her having a milk allergy! We went back to the store to ask if they put milk in it and turns out they did. They didn’t seem bothered as to what they had done but little do they know this would ruin our holiday as our mum is now in bed ill. We explain how she can’t have milk and there was little empathy for their mistake. Our mum works demanding hours and was looking forward to this holiday especially as we don’t see each others much and now she has to spent it in bed feeling ill. Never coming here again!

When it comes to supporting local businesses, it's always a good idea to seek out independent establishments like East & West Bakery. This exceptional bakery seems to be thriving and has remained open for business even during challenging times. It was temporarily closed for a total of 10 weeks at the end of last year but has since resumed its operations.
Crazy good prices and super friendly staff with a nice selection of sweet and savory pastries! I particularly recommend the chocolate brownie and the cheese and onion pasty.

Bought two loaves of ‘Sourdough’. The bread was neither fresh nor sourdough, and went stale very quickly. Selection of breads available was also very small. In addition to this, I tried one of their pasties. Not warm, mushy inside, and the pasty itself was very stale and soft, rather than flakey. All in all not a good experience, we left feeling quite unsatisfied.

I've used EW Bakery for years and always found them high quality. However after not being in for a while, last couple of weeks went back for GI loafs and their chocolate biscuit cake. Both a disappointment but especially the cake. Stodgy with really stale tasting biscuits in it. I forgave it last week as a potential one off, but not twice in a week. A shame as I loved their products. Won't be returning.

The staff were amazingly welcoming and friendly, seated us earlier than our reservation and got our order in quickly before a large table order got taken. The atmosphere and decor are nice, and you can see your food being prepared. Ordered pork gyozas which were mouthwatering with their orange lemon sauce! The mains turned out disappointing, as the pork ramen lacked depth and flavour and the beef barbacoa was slightly dry and could use some more spices. Our order got slightly mixed up but the staff kindly remedied it, I cannot recommend them enough :)

Super flavors on our starter of pork skewers, my husband’s Bulgogi steak was lovely and I know they were just nachos but the spiced beef nachos had a different mix of flavors I had never had before. Service was great and it is right in the heart of town. Would return!!

An unusual old school pub. Lots of singing and dancing... Loved it possibly as it was a party and I had had a few. No cards.. Take cash

Got to be the best pub for real ale in Barnstaple. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Tim P — Google review
A proper local pub serving great beer and lager with zero fuss and maximum taste. Full of the types of characters one hopes to come across in a bar like this but seldom does in this day and age of homogeneous Weatherspoons boozers. If you get the opportunity do not miss the chance to experience pubs the way they used to be! And remember..... contactless won't help you here! Cash only!

Traditional pub, friendly. Got talking to locals within minutes. Incredible bar lady who went to the 'enth' degree to make sure my pint was in tip top condition. Tele is in totally separate (back) room, so doesn't interfere in the bar.

The KFC Barnstable - Roundwell Services is a popular fast food chain known for its fried chicken served in buckets and combo meals with various side options. The drive-thru service is efficient and orders are usually accurate, while dining in may vary during peak hours with an average queue of 4-5 people. Despite the occasional limited seating, the entire restaurant can be observed from the drive-past view. The food offered at this KFC branch is standard and there are no major negative remarks.
What a difference since my last visit. Restaurant was lovely and clean, staff were very polite and friendly, the food was ready quickly and was absolutely brilliant. This was all managed on a busy Saturday evening. Well done to whoever turned this KFC around into a fantastic place that I will definitely be using more regularly now.

My niece was told by customer service that there was nothing they could do about it being sent to the wrong address. When she went back home later that evening they had just left her food order on her doorstep! They charged her a stupid amount for this too. I do not recommend KFC to anyone. The food is not good enough to account for the appalling customer service we received and the price is too high to be treated this way. My niece and I were extremely disappointed.
Nicola H — Google review
The worst KFC in the UK. The staff are rude and seem lazy, appearing to want only their salary without any interest in working. They speak in their mother tongue, assuming I don’t understand. However, I am familiar with the language, having lived abroad for over 10 years. It’s disappointing to see the condition of this KFC. I couldn’t even make a purchase because of the staff's attitude.
Prathap D — Google review
Rude staff, really unhelpful when I was trying to use my blue light discount card, very snappy responses. I bit into the chicken burger and spat it back out as it was grey and hard. Sent it back and the staff took it (what choice did they have) but acted like the money was coming from their own pocket. Sat there with my new meal (chips portioned out by hand into the holder) out of pure stubbornness. But I'll never return.
Sam A — Google review
Paid a visit to this KFC in Barnstable while on an Easter vacation in the area. The staff were totally disinterested in serving us. We ordered the 4 piece original recipe meal deal for one at just under £10. It arrived with two very small chicken wings, one small thigh and an average sized chicken leg. Also a small French fries and a small Pepsi. The chicken pieces had clearly been cooked some time before serving. Very disappointed. We won't be returning.
Peter B — Google review
I had the most shocking experience ever. While I was waiting for my food, at the counter, I noticed a member of staff filling the chip bags with his bare hands. I said to the lady that it wasn't very hygenic. She started shouting at me. Told me I can have my money back and said " go cook your food at home." I embarrassed, intimidated and shook up. I have reported to head office. I've noticed your responses to other negative posts. You just say you will try to put it right. You obviously don't because I've now heard of so many bad things about that women. We don't go out for food to experience being treated so bad. I live local and have told everyone I know, how disgusting it is to touching the food and how vile that women is.
Sarah H — Google review
My niece ordered a delivery which went to the wrong address. I rang the delivery team who were not only rude and unhelpful but they then refused to take any of my calls to complain. They didn’t deliver at all and we didn’t even get a refund. Absolutely disgusting customer service so no stars at all for this experience. I will now refuse to use KFC and will be telling all my friends and family on Facebook.
Nico H — Google review
If I could give this KFC a 0 stars I would. We had a KFC from here a month or so ago & I wasn’t very well but didn’t connect the dots… fast forward to yesterday & everyone fancied one so we popped to the drive through. First off, the woman who is part of the franchise is rude !! Second off I asked for a 10 piece boneless box & got charged for a 14 piece - when I checked my receipt I thought never mind, we will have more chicken - wrong ! 😑 got home & only had 12 pieces. Final straw was being on the loo until 3 o’clock this morning & my partner then having the same thing happen first thing. I will never ever use this KFC again & suggest you avoid it with a barge poll. Rude, overcharged & poorly ! I’ll be contacting environment health tomorrow. Posts on local sites also aren’t good…

Burger King is a renowned fast-food chain that has carved out a niche for itself with its delicious grilled burgers, crispy fries, and creamy shakes. Located in various spots including Barnstaple, this vibrant eatery offers a welcoming atmosphere where friendly staff are always ready to assist you with your order. While the menu features classic favorites like the Whopper, it also caters to diverse dietary preferences with clear vegan options that have even impressed non-vegans!
Fantastic! Had dipped when we last went in but it couldn't have been better recently. Spotlessly clean, food served rapidly and hot, and a more impressive broader menu. High quality meals for us all and I was particularly impressed with the friendliness of the staff. Will definitely return.
Steve S — Google review
8th of may 2025. A dozen people sued BK "the plaintiffs alleged that the advertisements showcased burgers that were "approximately 35% larger in size, and contain more than double the meat, than the actual burger." When I read that the other day I thought it was another crazy American story but it spreads worldwide. Haven't eaten burger kind for a year and I had memories of gigantic burgers. That has changed, today I got a bacon double cheeseburger smaller than my hand, dry with under cooked bacon. Then the cheese loaded fries, maybe it is because I am French but the cheese was tasteless. Finally, the halloumi fries, taste good but 1£ per piece?? For me, today closes the debate between McDonald's and Burger King. McDonald's wins. Burger King got humiliated 🏳️
Thibaut R — Google review
Food was typical Burger King quality, but service outstanding. Staff were friendly and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed.

Giving 2 stars for a brilliant staff behind the counter, working in this heat with no air conditioning was clearly affecting them. However the food was mediocre and ever since I have had every symptom of food poisoning. Won't be comming here again but wanted to give a shout out to the lads that where working (Thursday 10th July 2025 around about 3.30)

Not too sure about the music such as a song that sounded like I was in a action movie while binning the packaging butthe food was great and the service was better then McDonalds but food can be expensive however it's decent 👌 ! Good food ? Expensive ! Good service ? No free WiFi ! Some cheaper items are not on the menu :( ?= could do better != what i liked

Waited 20 minutes for one double cheese burger when it was dead. When I asked where it was, they said they missed the order, then said they can’t do refunds. Gave me a burger that had been sat there the whole 20 minutes which was stone cold, when told, the man shrugged at me and said ‘so?’ I asked if I can have a hot one he said no and walked away Awful customer service, £4 for a cold cheese burger after a 20 minute wait is ridiculous . Another customer said she had been stood there 10 minutes waiting to order and was ignored

Went in May for the first time and then again in August and September. Spot on every time. Fish was beautiful. Chips were hot and tasty. Lots on offer and seating area. It's really fantastic. Hard pushed to find a better chippy with such a wide selection.

Was looking forward to my fish and chips but was dissatisfied. When we got home we were a portion of chips missing. The fish was ok, a bit dry and overcooked, the same with the fishcakes. Chips were nice, what we were given. The potato scollop were not nice. A shame

Second time getting take away food from here and again fab food which we thoroughly enjoyed. Mini cod and chips was the perfect size for my appetite and great value for money. Even after getting home to eat, the batter was still super crispy 👌🏼 Will be back

My wife went in for a takeaway I waited outside as it was 2 sausage and chips, 15 minutes later after watching bigger orders come and go also watching 2 sausages go out, my wide asked what's going on, they said its being cooked, another 5 mins went by and she got 2 containers chucked on the side at her no bag no fork just there you go, we decided to eat it there and then instead of going home and it was already cold. How can it just of been cooked, service was terrible food was just as bad. To busy yapping

Wing Fong has become a beloved staple for many locals, with patrons raving about their consistently delicious meals over the years. While it’s true that delivery times can stretch to about an hour during busy weekends, this only highlights the eatery's popularity. Many families have enjoyed Wing Fong for generations, and newcomers are often pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Recent orders for special occasions have also received high praise, with guests leaving satisfied and happy.
Ordered here for the first time, last night (Sunday 18th May) we had a large order (£80) for a birthday celebration. All of the food was really good, everyone was thrilled, no one woke with dehydration and everyone was full. Lovely lady on counter, and polite chap who gave us out food. Definitely my new take out option, Thank you very much, we will be back!

We loved the food. But not happy with the service. Also no parking. They said 25 minutes to prepare the food but it took 40 minutes. And the staff is very rude. Food was good.
Nishith T — Google review
Awful, very salty we paid nearly £60! The chicken balls were nice! The duck was OK but the housin sauce was very salty No point in saying anything else not very nice. Very disappointed can't wait to go to London and get a decent one !
Sarah D — Google review
I've ordered takeaway from here many times and back when I was very young, my family would order from here too and still do. Very confused to see quite a few negative reviews of the food, as every time we've ordered from the Wing Fong, it's been absolutely delicious. The wait time for delivery is often about an hour, but it's only a little place, likely with a small team, so I don't mind the wait. I just order a little earlier to compensate. I'm vegan and there are plenty of marked veggie dishes to choose from. I find that the tofu is always cooked perfectly and portion sizes are great! Every restaurant has their bad days, so I'd take these really bad reviews with a grain of salt! It's my favourite Chinese takeaway to order from 😍
Jessie M — Google review
Absolutely terrible food quantity, We ordered about £60/£70 worth of food on NYD and my chicken chow mein had whole shrimps in it. We rang up and they said it was a mistake and offered £6 credit, which doesn’t even cover the cost of it, I had to Throw away due to smelling a bit fishy with the shrimps in it, management clearly do not care as there was no good will gesture, or nothing to make up for the fact 3 shrimps ended up in a chicken chow mein. Sweet and sour pork was basically all batter and barley and pork in it at all! Absolutely appalling, it’s a shame as we do order from here often. Would not recommend, and unfortunately we will not be returning back.
Chloe B — Google review
Food is very salty and the portion size does not match the price. Atmosphere was lovely and staff was friendly.

McDonald's, the iconic fast-food chain that has been a staple for burger and fry lovers for decades, continues to serve up its classic menu with a modern twist. During my recent visit, I noticed the implementation of Covid safety measures at the entrance, including mask requirements and hand sanitizing stations. While the drive-thru line was quite lengthy—stretching almost to the exit—the inside offered a more tranquil atmosphere.
Popped in as a treat last week. Spotlessly clean, very pleasant staff and well organised. I spoke to a manager at the time to say how impressed we were. He said he'd pass my comments on to the staff. 10/10 and a credit to the McDonald's organisation.
Scott W — Google review
I usually don’t complain about fast food, but this McDonald’s visit was really disappointing. When I got my order, everything was cold and tasted like it had been sitting around for a while. The fries were dry and chewy instead of hot and crispy, and the burger was messed up completely – it didn’t even match what I’d ordered. The bun was hard around the edges, the meat had no flavour, and the whole thing felt thrown together with no care. For the price you pay, you expect at least something fresh and edible, but this meal was the opposite. The staff didn’t seem bothered either, which made it worse because there was no effort to fix it. Honestly, it felt like I’d wasted my money. I won’t be rushing back anytime soon if this is the standard they’re serving. Really let down.
Callum — Google review
Maybe it was just me, but I have been to many restaurants of this franchise, and generally they have been similar. It's MacDonalds. It is what it is. And then I came to this one and it didn't deliver. The order was not as fast as I'd come to expect - not slow, but it seemed slower. And the food somehow didn't seem of the standard I've come to expect. Maybe the fries weren't correctly seasoned, maybe the burger feel apart in my hands more readily than usual, I don't know. Hard to pin down what it was, but not up to the standard standard. Substandard. Most annoying though - if someone sitting in your car park orders a cup of tea as the "drink" part of a meal, it might be sensible to bring a couple of sachets of milk and some sugar with the order rather than them having to walk in and pick some up.
James B — Google review
Upsetting. As I walk into this Macdonalds that I have been to a lot I see dirty floor and not a Enough seats they need to upgrade McDonald’s
Graham J — Google review
We visited the restaurant today and I am disgusted by the experience. I ordered in the app and went through the drive thru to collect. We were given our drinks and asked to park up and the order would be bought over. 10 minutes later (and watching multiple cars go through the drive thru and leave with their food) no food had arrived at the car. I then went into the restaurant and went to the desk where I waited for a further 7 minutes what I was ignored! It wasn’t until someone behind me called the site manager over to order that someone came. Then, to add insult to injury my food was on the side waiting for someone to bring it out…..right under the restaurant air con! Our food was re made but the service was disgusting! The idea of fast food is completely lost on this restaurant!!
Sophia M — Google review
The usual breakfast here at McDonald's. Covid rules applied at the door. Need to wear a mask / Use hand sanitiser and use the machine to order. Can pay by cash if need be. The cue at the drive through was long today nearly to the entrance / exit. Inside much quieter. Wait for food time is longer than used to be due to the online orders now taking precedent over people who actually get off their bums and go to the store. This will only get worse in time as more and more people choose to order breakfast from their beds! 🙄

It might be because it was a Sunday night but I was very disappointed with the food. The meat was not freshly cut and was far from hot. The salad seemed old and the presentation of the food was sloppy. The sauces were not homemade. Maybe it would be better if really drunk. I will not be going back

Ordered a take away from here tonight, pre ordered for a time and was very late, we’re very annoyed about how late it was and wanted to complain, I think it was down to the delivery service not the restaurant, when the food turned up they were incredibly apologetic, and the food was honestly so good, probably the best kebab I’ve had in north Devon, would definitely recommend

Ordered a kebab and spicy chips.. spicy chips were amazing but only half a kebab turned up. Half my pot is salad a tongs worth of meat and a slice of pitta bread. Whay has the world come to when you only get slice of pitta bread with a kebab

Genuinely hideous.. the pizza we just ordered has left pools of fat on the bottom of the box, and the box itself is drenched with fat. Inedible, even for a hungry 12yo. Just returned to the shop with the £14 chicken shish kebab - 6 small chunks of chicken, limp salad. The only reasonable thing received was the cabbage. Save yourself a hassle and go elsewhere. This is not food.

Woo hoo crunchy chips wrapped in paper rather than soggy in some plasticy tub, pizza was absolutely amazing, cheesy, can taste all meats, only thing was the bbq sauce base needs to be stronger, apart from that best pizza ever 🤤🤤
