Portuguese restaurant
O Buraco is a traditional restaurant in the heart of Porto, near the famous Bolhao market. With over 50 years of history, this establishment offers authentic Portuguese cuisine at reasonable prices. The menu features classic dishes such as boiled cabeca de pescada, carapaus de escabeche, and figado de cebolada. Additionally, daily specials like feijoada a Buraco and tripas a Buraco showcase regional flavors.
probably one of the best restaurants in Porto. If looking for genuine Portuguese cuiscine, this is the absolutely place. serving hours are 1200-1500, 1900 -2300, it is always fully packed, need to queue up for tables. It can seat about 70 guests, but got very few waiters so they are really busy and rushing all the time. But the kitchen is very quick. First time I went, not knowing they only serve tripa fridays and saturdays. So ending up I had the famous Portuguese sausage Alheira, which is not my cup of tea. Went again and finally had the awesome Tripas a Moda do Porto. Incredibly tasty and tender, even the rice is flavorful and well cooked. I will return again. On the 3rd visit, I had duck rice. O Buraco is definitely the best..

Incredible food. Literally the tastiest most filling chicken and salad I’ve ever had. The service was outstanding and so was the food/drinks. The highlight was the cheesecake recommended by our server, which I have thought about loads since eating. This was definitely worth the queue (only a short one).
Izi T — Google review
Got this recommendation after putting into Gemini: authentic, value for money, Portuguese traditional restaurant. This restaurant came up on top. So popular we had to wait outside to get a table. Service is better than it seems. It was full so we got a corridor table which was fine. There were more tables in the basement. Food was great. Tasty and efficient. Waiter recommended that we didn't over order as portions were generous. Ordered soups. Had the biftek and the cod buraco. Both lovely. Topped up the vinho verde with some tawny port after dessert. Came to be €65 for 2
Steven H — Google review
Great food, good price and good portion size. The menu is not big but everything we had was very good. They serve mostly fish and some meat dishes. I did not notice anything with crab, shrimp, clam or mussels. Come before 7:30 if you can or you might have to wait outside.
Bill C — Google review
Came here 3 times because I can’t find another place with better price/quality. Duck rice, fried sardines were great. Wish they can make the Wednesday special (meat and bean stew) available everyday. Service is average not that welcoming, but at least efficient.
Jem C — Google review
O Buraco offers authentic, local Portuguese cuisine that truly delights. Their bean rice and sardines are standout dishes we absolutely love. The prices are very reasonable, making it the perfect spot to enjoy genuine flavors while avoiding typical tourist traps. Don’t miss their special sangrias, available in sparkling and berry varieties, which set them apart from other places.
V C — Google review
Excellent food, big portions and fast service. The prices are very cheap and I think everything is homemade. The rice was a side dish included in the price of the fish.
Lorenzo B — Google review
We didn't have time to taste it for a longer time, but the salmon was very good, the restaurant was packed just moments after opening, which is a good sign

Casa Guedes Progresso is a Portuguese restaurant located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. It's known for its delicious food, great service, and age (dating from 1899!). The interior of the restaurant is interesting and it feels like stepping back in time.
I really enjoyed the food, and I have to highlight that the pork sandwich is a must-try at this place. As a starter, I ordered a codfish croquette with sheep cheese, which was also very good, but I have to say the sandwich was outstanding. It was absolutely delicious. I was served by a guy named Sydney, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was also great, and overall it’s a place where you can eat very well.
Abrahams M — Google review
We visited this place yesterday and had an amazing experience! Our waitress, Marriana, gave us the best service we’ve had in all of Portugal. She was approachable, always smiling, kind, and gave us genuine recommendations. We tried the passion fruit sangria, octopus, and sandwich #14 (with Brie and caramelised onions). Everything was excellent! The sangria was rich in citrus and fresh fruit, the octopus was perfectly cooked and impressively served as a whole (not just a few tentacles like in most places), and the sandwich was absolutely delicious—even though we had initially hoped to try Bifanas, but Marriana’s recommendation did not disappoint. The prices are also on point. The only small suggestion would be to serve lemon wedges with the octopus. Highly recommended!

GOTTA TRY THE ICONIC SANDWICH. (Get the beef version with an egg on top) Got recommend by the taxi driver who brought us to our hotel, so local street cred is definitely there. Food was great, sandwich + pardon peppers + Picanha steak (fries was 10/10) + Pint of SB and Pint of Somersby. Really lovely environment, great how it’s not too loud so you can still hear from people on your table. Staff are great, despite my liability of Portugues, everyone was super helpful and was a great vibe. Coming back for sandwiches next time, ate logo🫡
Jezza E — Google review
Words can’t properly describe how much I loved sandwich no.8 . It was absolutely amazing, the pork was so tender and all the ingredients of good quality. Service was always fast and nice at the 2 locations I’ve been to ( Progresso& Tradicional). I will be coming back for sure each time I will visit Porto.
Sara M — Google review
Honorable mention to the staff, they were all amazing and made us feel really welcomed. The food was amazing too. They have lots of different options so it was amazing. Every dish was spectacular. Would definitely recommend and give the carrot cake and chocolate mousse cake a try.
Fernanda G — Google review
The food was amazing! I ordered Salmon with tomato rice and it was really really good, also the duck risotto. I saw so many octopus dishes coming out and I felt bad for not ordering it because it looked out of this world. Can’t wait to come back and try it
Malik A — Google review
While in Portugal, trying a Bifana is a must. The Bifana here at Case Guesdes were good but not as good as the ones we had in Lisbon. This restaurant does have other Portuguese dishes on their menu besides Bifana so it is a great place to stop by and have dinner especially after a long day of walking.
Victoria P — Google review
Good place to try the Francesinha, ours came loaded with lots of meat, it was great value for the money, in addition to a $3 euro gigantic plate of fries. The gravy it came with was also delicious and made the dish so much better. I have to admit we were skeptical of the francesinha but glad we decided to try it here! We also ordered the octopus but could have given it a miss as it was a bit mushy and not very fresh, although it came with a large portion of spinach that was seasoned well.

Casa Guedes Tradicional is a beloved spot in Porto run by two sets of siblings who have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highlight here is the famous smoked pork loin sandwich, best enjoyed with a glass of the local green wine called espadal. Additionally, homemade french fries are also recommended. Recently, Casa Guedes expanded with a new location that offers traditional Portuguese dishes and signature cocktails alongside the iconic sandwiches.
I’ve eaten here several times and it never disappoints. The roasted pork sandwiches, cod cakes, and croquettes are always tasty—especially when washed down with a cold Super Bock. Sitting outside is perfect for people watching. Life is good!

We are not experts on bifanas, but definitely their bifana sandwiches here are great! Great quality, combinations and taste! The menu is exactly what should be. Overall excellent experience. This restaurant is a "must" for anyone visiting Porto!
Panos A — Google review
We serendipitously had lunch here. This is one of the finest restaurants in Porto. The personnel were amicable and well-informed. They patiently elucidated the diverse dishes. The cuisine was undoubtedly superb and delectable. You should sample the abade prisco at least once to explore the flavors of Portugal.
Jack C — Google review
This was the first time we ordered patatas bravas on this trip and they were delicious. We ended up getting them every place we went and by the end of the trip the ones here were still my favorite. My friend loved the pork croquettes and actually asked for me after our meal because she loved them so much. Friendly and helpful staff. The menu has a lot of options!

Sofia recommended me local tastes.I had traditional soup, codfish cake, octopus with potato and espresso and desert. Terrace is a chill place with music. I really enjoyed my visit.

I first visited Casa Guedes back in 2017. We came to Porto now, our priority was to return to Casa Guedes - specifically this restaurant. Casa Guedes did not disappoint- the pork sandwiches are beyond delicious. Out of this world. What made the experience perfect was Paolo, who made us feel so welcome. Love this place.
AAR — Google review
Food was okay, Pork knuckle was really tasty, falling out of bone, do delicious, however side dish that you get with it was also good but portion is very small and not in proportion with the meat where you get really good amount of it. Other dish however, was nothing special, bacalar with egg and vegetables. It had some tomato taste which is fine but overall lacking some spices or something. Position of restaurant is nice, on the street.

Restaurant
Adega São Nicolau is a cozy and unassuming restaurant that serves up traditional Portuguese dishes with a homestyle touch. Owned by the same people as Taberna dos Mercadores, it embodies the warmth of Portuguese hospitality. The menu features classic favorites like bacalhau a Narcisa and veal steak from Arouca, but the real highlights are the seasonal specials, such as capelin stuffed with Alheira and rabbit in red wine.
Iconic location with an atmosphere that feels truly authentic. The food was exactly what you’d hope for in Porto — fresh, flavorful, and generous. The shrimps were outstanding: perfectly cooked, fresh, and rich with flavor. The grilled sardines were the ideal first-night meal in Porto — simple, traditional, and absolutely delicious. Service was excellent — quick, efficient, and very friendly. A small tip: make sure to put your name on the waitlist when you arrive, as there is almost always a queue. The system runs smoothly, and the short wait is well worth it. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to dive straight into genuine Portuguese flavors and a great dining experience in the heart of Porto
Peter W — Google review
My companions and I had an excellent meal here! I tried to make reservations via phone but my call wasn’t answered. So we just went there for a late lunch, and had a wait of 20 minutes. The staff is efficient and they try to sit you asap. Once you have your table, the staff is really helpful and answers your questions. The food comes in quite fast. The octopus rice was splendid and the octopus fillet was unbelievably tender. The tripe was the highlight for me though. It was so rich, complex, and tender. I hope it was easier to get reservations, but it’s worth the wait. It was an amazing meal for our last day in Porto!
Krista A — Google review
If you want to eat something near the river side, I would pick here! Prawn was good. Sauce was with deep seafood favor. Octopus was pretty ok as well. Staff were nice. We went there for just simple food and a glass of wine then liked prawn so ordered more food to just have dinner there!!!!!
김혜진 — Google review
Adega São Nicolau remains one of those Porto institutions where you walk in expecting a pleasant meal and walk out feeling like you have survived, or perhaps enjoyed, a minor historical event. Tucked beside the Douro, this old school tavern still dishes out enough tradition to qualify as a UNESCO carb site. We dove into the octopus rice, which arrived like a warm ocean hug. Rich, comforting, beautifully seasoned. If Neptune ever opened a restaurant, this would be his signature dish. Truly excellent. The cod, however, pulled a small plot twist. Tasted good, smelled right, looked heroic, but chewed like it had just completed military service. Not terrible, just a bit on the tough side, as if the fish had opinions about being eaten. Service marched at its usual brisk medieval tempo, and the atmosphere remained a delightful blend of locals, lost tourists, and people pretending they reserved a table three months ago. Final verdict: come for the vibe, stay for the octopus rice, and approach the cod with the same caution explorers used when opening unknown treasure chests in the year 1500. After all, legends are legends, but fish have moods too.
The G — Google review
This was our first dinner place in Porto and it did not disappoint. You may have to wait a bit for a table, but it would be worth it. It’s close to the river but tucked away on a little narrow uphill street that lends a quaint atmosphere of authenticity to it. The portions of the mains is pretty big, I’m a hearty eater, I can really eat a lot, but the servings for one main would be good for two people, particularly if you would be doing an appetizer, and dessert after. My partner and I made the mistake of getting one main each. We tried the Tripe stew and the veal stew. Both were very rich. The tripe was tender, not gamey, and was stewed with white beans and some carrots making it a very filling dish. The veal was also very tender, perfectly seasoned, and had a moderately thick sauce perfect for sopping up with bread. We also had the croquettes for starters which were a bit too creamy inside (the outer shell was nice and crispy, and the jesuit crackers which were light and fluffy. We were very full in the end so the climb/walk up the hilly parts was a wee bit challenging but kinda welcome. Pro tip: just really think about whether you need to have two mains, best to share one.
N C — Google review
What an amazing find! The inside is like you're in a wine barrel. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable...and fun. The food was amazing. I had the Lagareiro Octopus and it was one of the best things I've eaten over my 2 weeks in Portugal. My sister had the Lagareiro cod, which was also delicious, but the octopus was outstanding. Go there - you will not be disappointed
Jen C — Google review
We had the final meal of our short break in Porto here, and a fitting finale it was. Superb food, with a friendly service in a really nice atmosphere. We shared Codfish croquettes and Octopus salad to start, both fresh and flavoursome. For mains it was Octopus fillet which came with Octopus rice, across the table it was Oxtail stew with rice. Both dishes were superb. We stumbled across this place earlier in the day, and said we'd go back later, and weren't disappointed, I would recommend anyone to try this small restaurant which is slightly off the beaten track.

Lado B Café (Coliseu) is a popular spot in Porto known for its delicious francesinhas, burgers, grilled steaks, and hot dogs. The restaurant offers a spacious front room that can accommodate groups of up to 20 people, as well as a smaller back room for more intimate gatherings. Situated near the historic Majestic Cafe and the Church of Saint Ildefonso, it's easily recognizable. The modern decor reflects the owner's connection to the music world.
The place we tried famous Francesinha and loved. If you are not too hungry - recommend sharing one for 2 people, you won’t end up sleepy. Super Bock craft beer was really nice too.

Tried the Franchesinha here. It's a must try dish in Porto. Unfortunately it wasn't to my taste but that isn't a reflection on the restaurant. The service was really good and the atmosphere was great. It's a really nice cafe. Modern. It's a shame I didn't like the famous dish. But from other reviews, this is the place to try it.
Jermaine N — Google review
We tried the famous Francesinha, along with fries and a cold Super Bock. The service was fast and friendly, and the food arrived hot – served on a nicely warmed plate, which was a great touch. While the Francesinha wasn’t quite to my personal taste, that’s purely a matter of preference and not a reflection on the restaurant itself. Everything was well prepared and presented. A great spot with solid service – definitely worth a visit if you're curious to try a local classic!
Stella M — Google review
I think they’re using the same potato chips for different tables. As soon as I sat down, they placed a small bowl of potato chips on the table. After my main dish arrived, the waiter took it without saying anything (it was full). Another waiter noticed the suprised look on my face and brought it back. But then it happened again- twice during the same meal. I ordered the vegetarian francesinha with french fries, not my flavor but the sauce was good.
Gal L — Google review
Known as the best Francesinha in Porto, right next door to their direct competition, but you can't go wrong either way, try them both! We also had the hot dog sandwich, forgot what its called but it was delicious as well :)
Andrew L — Google review
We shuffled up into this mother to try the famous francesinha of Portugal. I have not marked the restaurant down despite me not enjoying the dish. The food was all cooked well and having vegan alternatives is always great. There’s beers and food was very reasonably priced. I just find the dish to be weird.
Sloppychops69 — Google review
Very tasty and affordable. Much better than the neighbours. We had francesinha, hot dog, soup, apple crumble (just from the oven, very tasty)
Nataliia B — Google review
Amazing place for a local dish. The Fransecsinha. It’s basically a sandwich style dish and in between you get a steak, Portuguese sausage, and cheese, top with more cheese and a fried egg and then drizzle with a sauce similar to the “poutine” in Canada. When it’s busy you probably need to wait for a bit and go in and put your name on the reservation list. The crowd moves quite fast. Order is fast too and food arrives fast. All in all would totally come back and recommend.

Conga is a down-to-earth restaurant in Porto, known for its pork sandwiches, draft beers, and wine. The eatery offers a variety of gastronomic treasures, with specialties like tender pulled pork marinated in garlic and spice served in bifanas buns. The menu also features steaks accompanied by potatoes and thin dishes that leave patrons more than satisfied without emptying their wallets.
If you can look past the loud tourists, the bifanas are truly yummy. I love the spice and how fresh they were. The vegetable soup was very good too. Nice job!
Marilynn — Google review
The restaurant had a simple but pleasant atmosphere. Servers were pleasant and friendly. The sandwich was tasty and very well priced, the only thing I didn’t like was that the sauce made the roll soggy on some parts. I do not like soggy bread but great concept and worth trying out!
Mary G — Google review
Update: I ended up coming here 4x during my 3-day trip to Porto. It was really addictive. Lovely bifanas! This was a great accidental find. We came here after having a racist experience at the Piri Piri chicken store opposite and were very heartened by the impartial service here. It turned out that Conga is actually very famous. Bifanas were absolutely delicious - salty, soft meat with a slight tinge of spice, I could have eaten two in a go. We tried different combinations - with rice and fries, but decided that the original style of having the meat with bread was the best as it soaks up the meaty greasy spicy goodness. Sangria is also fizzy and great in the heat, but slightly sweet. So good we came back twice in a day!
M L — Google review
Authentic Portuguese food and experience. Came recommended from host and was worth the visit. Had Bacalhau and Steak as options on day I went. The Cod, rice and bean/greens dish were excellent! Quick for food and service was great, and best yet not a tourist trap with all locals. Will visit again.
Mark B — Google review
We went here for a traditional bifana and we got it! The broth was so flavorful and a little spicy. Seriously delicious. We also got the veggie soup and the caldo verde - both were very bland, but hot and fresh. The atmosphere was a standard, sports place, nothing special. The water closet was a bit messy and smelled strongly of urine. Really great value, it was the most affordable meal we had while in Porto.
Justine H — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Iconic Porto Flavors at Their Best! Conga is a true Porto institution — the kind of place every local knows and every visitor should experience. Famous for its bifanas, this spot serves up sandwiches that are simply out of this world — tender pork simmered in a spicy, flavorful sauce that’s both addictive and unforgettable. The atmosphere is lively and full of character, with that perfect mix of tradition and energy that makes Porto so special. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient — even when it’s busy (which it often is!). Pair your bifana with an ice-cold beer or a glass of vinho verde, and you’ve got one of the best meals in the city for an unbeatable price. Conga isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a Porto experience. Simple, delicious, and absolutely essential for anyone who loves authentic Portuguese food. 🇵🇹🔥

O Astro Cervejaria Petisqueira is a cozy and charming spot that offers a taste of authentic Portuguese cuisine. It's known for its delicious spicy pork sandwiches called bifanas, which are tender and flavorful. In addition to the savory sandwiches, they also serve traditional dishes like caldo verde (kale soup) and papas, a thick soup made with blood and shredded meat. The service is fast and friendly, despite the bustling atmosphere.
Found the place online but it was also recommended to us by locals. So don't be afraid of the hype. Its definitely a worthy one. Had my bifana at the bar for a true local experience. There are a couple of other options which I didn't try yet I noticed that all the locals were having soup after eating their sandwich. Either way a must try place when you visit Porto.

Ordered a Bifana sandwich and a Caldo Verde. The Bifana was delicious, but the Caldo Verde was a bit bland. It's nice to see the old ladies busy in the kitchen. You can tell they care about the food. It's right across Campaña station and still very affordable. Give it a try.
Rienk S — Google review
A great Bifana, better than Conga's. Much smaller and cozier and the bartender was a great guy!

This is pinnacle comfort food and an amazingly low price. Hot soup, bifanas, beer, it's the family-friendly feeling you get when you sit down and eat here. It just feels cozy, and food tastes like home cooking.

Found it online. My accomodation was around the corner. So each time i was passing by, hungry or not, i was stopping for their special Bifana. Also healthier than any burger or kebap.
Florin H — Google review
Very Delicious Bifana, not very consistent in terms of taste and quality of meat but still definitely worth it.
Jonathan G — Google review
Hit up this restaurant for quick snack after arriving at Campanhã station. Vibe out on the street was good as it was well attended. Inside had AC and lots of seating which was pleasant surprise from the busy street side tables. The bifana tasted good but we don’t have any other bifanas to compare it to. It was sandwich only so sides need to be ordered with it. We ordered bovine and chicken burger meals and they arrived bunless keto-style. All good if you expect it but we sure didn’t! Service was good, our server came back several times to check on us and spoke good English.

DO NOT PAY WITH CREDIT CARD HERE, THEY WILL CHOSE THE CONVERSION EVEN WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION WHICH COST YOU MORE FOR NOTHING. I went to the register to pay I gave the lady my table number she confirmed the amount , I went to pay with Apple Pay before I could choose Euros the cashier pulled the machine from my hands , I said I want to pay in Euro not USD and please deny the conversion otherwise they charge you more for nothing. When she gave me the receipt I she chose the conversion anyway, the manager came over and said sorry without correcting the situation which means nothing. I had euros on me and had I been informed that they prefer to steal from their customers when they pay credit I would have given euros. This was my first experience in Porto and this is how I was welcomed. I promise you if you come to America we will be kind and helpful and will not charge you extra for no reason. This was not a mistake if it was you would have done the right thing and corrected the situation .

Maus Hábitos, also known as Bad Habits, is a multifaceted establishment that encompasses a restaurant, bar, art gallery, concert venue, and cultural center. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with an urban ambiance and unconventional entrance via an elevator or four flights of stairs through a car park. However, the effort is rewarded with open sky terraces offering a bustling cultural scene. The venue hosts various events and features a permanent art gallery.
Really cool spot with a great view. Was a bit confused about entering/exiting/paying. There was a lot of staff but not a lot of direction. But the food and the vibe in the outside deck was incredible. Really enjoyed my pizza. The flavors were spot on. To-go box for the other half of my pizza was massive but that's solo travel life for ya!

Wowowow Such a lovely little rooftop spot, hard to find, but worth the investigation. Have been here twice now - their pizzas, cheese starters and tiramisu are a must try. Lovely service too!

Wonderful pizzas in an atmosphere that’s delightfully chaotic - loud, lively, and full of energy. Service was a little slow, but the staff were warm and friendly, and with pizzas this good it’s absolutely worth the wait. Reservations recommended

A beautiful live, nice and cozy place with an extraordinary life performance sound provided by Rui, the audio engineer. If you like to listen live club music, especially jazz, this place could offer exactly what a music lover need. Prices are decent, seats are comfortable enough and show goes over the midnight hours. One of the Porto's hidden gems.

Somehow hidden on the top level of a parking building, you need to know, or to stumble on this place. We went here for dinner. Had a cocktail, some beers and some pizzas. A nice spot to sit and enjoy on this top floor. The atmosphere is special. You get a great alternative vibe. The food and the drinks are great.

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Porto! They have vegan and vegetarian options, the portions are good, and the prices were reasonable. The whole space has an artsy vibe, and they have posters and flyers for local artistic events. Then of course there is the lovely view and the kind staff.

Located in the heart of Porto, just a few minutes' walk from the Aliados metro stop, Brasão Aliados offers a traditional rural tavern atmosphere with elaborate decor. The menu features delicious francesinhas and an array of Portuguese petiscos. The attention to detail makes it a visual experience, and craft beer enthusiasts can choose from a variety of options.
We had a wonderful lunch right in the center of Porto. The food was delicious – we tried the Francesinha and Goat salad. It absolutely lived up to the hype. Rich, flavorful, and really satisfying. The service was also lovely – the staff were very friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal. Highly recommend ⭐️

What an incredible experience! This place is truly amazing, with a fantastic and cozy atmosphere. We were seated on the upper floor – just watch out for the low ceilings ;) From there, we had a great view of the bustling waiters and all the tables filled with happy guests. The pleasant hum of conversation created a unique, vibrant energy. For our appetizer, we had the mushroom and asparagus dish with an egg. It was a flavor explosion—an absolute must-try! As a main course, we chose the classic Portuguese dish, francesinha, prepared in the traditional way. The portion was huge and incredibly filling, and we regretted not ordering the half-portion, as we had no room left for dessert. We didn't have a reservation, but we arrived just before the afternoon opening time. We waited for a short time in line and were given a table for an hour, which was more than enough thanks to the quick service. It was a truly fantastic dining experience! Thank you!

we were very lucky to take the last available table walking in at 6:45pm. portion of food is large and the staff was very nice of reminding us. innovative cooking method of onion, the beef with mushroom is fabulous that not too salty. the signature dish - francesinha are mix of meat, cheese, toast with homemade sauce: recommend to order half of size to leave room for more food. drinks are decorative and with good taste. overall is a pleasant experience as our first meal in Porto!

Apparently, this spot is known for having one of the best Francesinhas in Porto—and it truly lived up to its reputation! The meats were of great quality and tasted premium, with generous portion sizes (you can even opt for a half Francesinha if you’re not too hungry). We really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the attentive service. The restaurant was full, so be sure to book a table in advance!

I am visiting Porto for almost 3 years, at least 3-4 weeks a year. The best food for me is by far Francesinha. Every time I take an uber ask then what francesinha he thinks is the best, so you can imagine I ate a lot of them already. However tonight I found the place, where I can say with confidence that has the best. You need to order with bife do lombo & egg and just enjoy this magical meal. I am a Man of perfection and so was this Francesinha. 10/10 recommended
Jan M — Google review
Great restaurant with a delicious Francesinha! Unlike many other places, the cheese was nicely melted and the sausage was full of flavor. The only downside was the beef, it was quite tough and hard to cut, which spoiled it a little. Other than that, the service was friendly and fast, even without a reservation we got a table for an hour. Keep in mind that one Francesinha is easily enough for two people.
Vagner F — Google review
Excellent restaurant and service. I had a reservation for 10 pm, but they helped me get a seat at 8:20 pm. The wine was excellent, and the food was delicious. But without a doubt, the ribs are on another level; the 48-hour wine marinade makes them exquisite. We ordered half a pica, but it's really spicy. For those who don't tolerate it well, it ends up being a nuisance to finish the dish. The accompaniment was orange salad, simply fresh, juicy and sweet. The attention from the entire staff was magnificent; everyone treated us with such love. I would definitely come back.

This restaurant has a very bad service, especially the black waitress. I’m Chinese and she is very rude to me but towards the other people she is polite, which is a bit racism. The food was horrible, the dish Francesinha it taste very salty can the beef inside is totally raw, also the beef sandwich l ordered well done and when they served it, it is over cooked it tastes like rubber and l refused to pay for these two dishes, but they said if it tastes bad l have to talk to them while I’m eating it which is unbelievable. This restaurant should never get good reviews, but it turns out they have lots of good reviews which it is not understandable. Over all l don recommend this restaurant, they have bad service and disgusting food.

Café Santiago is a laid-back dining spot renowned for its delectable egg-topped sandwiches and hearty comfort fare, along with a selection of beers. The star of the menu is the Francesinha, Portugal's take on the croque-monsieur, featuring layers of cured ham, smoke-cured pork sausage seasoned with garlic and paprika, chipolata, roast meat smothered in melted cheese and sometimes topped with a fried egg.
We had the steak sandwich and had it split into two portion just add €1+. I can’t remember. But you’d get extra eggs and fries as it’s split to two plates. Well worth it as we’re not big eaters plus we then get to order another dish! Service was fast and prompt. We were early so no queue for us.

I visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy an authentic francesinha, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The biggest issue was the service: the staff was unprofessional and overly familiar, calling me "my love" and touching my arm, which made me uncomfortable. I don't know if it is part of portuguese culture but a more respectful and professional attitude would be greatly appreciated as a tourist. As for the food, while I understand that francesinha is a local specialty and many people love it, it wasn’t to my personal taste. However, I respect that this might just be a matter of preference. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience, mainly due to the service.

Good afternoon, I had dinner here today. And I am very disappointed. At first glance, the food looked good. But the reality was completely different. The meat smelled slightly off, but more importantly, it wasn't cooked through. I didn't finish my meal and reported everything to the waiter. I was asked if I wanted the meat cooked further. I said no, because there wasn't much left. Then the waiter took the food away and that was it. I find it really outrageous to serve someone raw meat and not even apologise, let alone make the customer pay the full amount. I understand that this can happen sometimes, but the staff's reaction must be different!!!!

Francesinha is a Porto classic, and around Café Santiago you’ll find several places specializing in it. This restaurant, with entrances from both Rua de Santo Ildefonso and Rua de Passos Manuel, clearly takes its Francesinha seriously — it’s offered in several variations. As one reviewer said perfectly: “I’m glad I tried it, but I don’t need to try it again.” It’s definitely an acquired taste, but hearty and filling — arrive hungry. My wife had Bacalhau à Braga, which was nicely prepared, and we finished with Aletria — a dessert made from thin noodles simmered in sweet milk and dusted with cinnamon. Service was friendly and quick, rounding out a solid local experience.

Tried the famous francesinha at Café Santiago and it delivered. Rich, hearty, and indulgent, with a perfectly balanced spicy beer sauce. The portion is generous, the meat is tender, and the melted cheese blanket is pure comfort. Service was quick and friendly despite the crowd. If you are in Porto and want to try the city’s signature dish, this is the place. Go hungry.

The night before I was searching on YouTube for authentic and signature eats in Porto. Found this place and was impressed by the portion size. Walked from the Hilton which took me 30min. I thought going there right after the lunch rush would land me in a close to empty restaurant. I was wrong. 3pm still packed both inside and out. The no nonsense server just pointed to the bar which I sat. I ordered the staple with fries as well as a tomato salad. All meat and zero green in sight. The gravy was a tad bit salty but the bread balanced that out. Was nice that I could try a Porto speciality. Glad I didn’t add more carbs with a beer because I was pretty full after meal. The vibes of the restaurant were fast paced and pretty much eat and scram. Good experience all in all.

Francesinha baked in a wood oven! Ordered the Francesinha Santiago - Bife do Lombo, that upgrades the beef to siloin, also for that price comes already included the fried egg and the french fries. Aletria for desert, it was also top notch! Delicious! with a Café were both the perfect send off!

Nestled in the charming Ribeira neighborhood, Taberna dos Mercadores is a cozy and intimate restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. Despite its small size, the place is always bustling, so it's advisable to make reservations well in advance. The attentive staff adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu features delectable dishes such as octopus specialties and grilled sea bass, complemented by an extensive selection of high-quality wines.
We had to wait for about 30-40 minutes before we got a table. The staff came out during this time and told us they can’t guarantee a place for us and that larger groups might have to sit separately. If you can reserve a table as otherwise you might not be able to taste their delicious food. We had the octopus with its rice as well as the steak with the sausage rice. We shared a mixed salad for a starter. The food arrived in time and was delicious. It was worth the wait. The staff is very friendly and polite. It’s worth a visit and with just 16 seats one of the smaller restaurants we have been. Highly recommend but be prepared either to wait or reserve a spot.

This is a very touristy place. The space is very small and at a time only 16 people can be seated. We arrived 45 minutes before opening and were 6th in line. We tried the oven-baked octopus rice and the salt-crusted seabass. The seabass was excellent, 10/10. The oven-baked octopus rice was 7/10. The people working there are very nice. The lady who took our order told us our initial order would be too much food, which was such a kind gesture. Overall, if you have an hour to spare, I would say try this restaurant.

By far the best restaurant in Porto. There will be a wait so be prepared but it’s well worth it. My tip is be there early. Restaurant seats 14 people. Reminds me of the quaint restaurants in the Boston North End. The food was stunningly and delicious. I ordered the garlic shrimp, Seafood Açorda and Apple Meringue pie. All amazing and all suggested by the owner who is amazingly kind and attentive. I was a single traveler and made to feel right at home and welcomed.

This was my favourite meal in Portugal, the food was so good! I liked the octopus rice and sea bream best, followed by the seafood rice. They have very limited seating inside (~16 seats) so there was a long wait. They opened at 12:30 and our group arrived at 12:05, and we barely missed entering in the first wave. We ended up waiting over 1.5 hours. They don’t guarantee group seating for groups larger than 2 so our group of 4 ended up getting split into 2 groups. They accept credit card.

I arrived around 1:30pm ish and I waited about 30 mins to be seated. I was by myself and the staff/owner was so accommodating and friendly. I got the octopus dish with rice and the portion was way too generous. Apple pie was really good, nostalgic and had the right balance! Worth the wait 😊

The signature salt-grilled fish was really fresh, and the flame grilling was quite a show. The garlic clams were just average. We waited almost an hour and a half for a table—there are only eight tables with sixteen seats. The place doesn’t really have much of an atmosphere, but the food came out pretty quickly.

I would say it's a must-try if you come to Porto. The taste of octopus rice is unforgettable. The crunchy flavored rice is lovely and the octopus is soft and slightly firm with a pleasant chewiness. The size is suitable for 2 people. My friend and I had waited for an hour, and it's

Tiny restaurant with only 16 seats! It does take reservations (4 weeks in advance), but we didn't know. Just missed the first seating when we arrived around 6pm and waited around 1hr30 to be seated. The food was great, lots of seafood. However, as the restaurant is completely open, you did feel like those that were queuing were staring and hoping you would hurry up! Would recommend to arrive before opening time to get the first tables or booking in advance. Otherwise, the wait is too long for what it is.

Taberna Santo António is a charming, rustic restaurant located in Porto, specifically at Passeio das Virtudes. Run by the welcoming couple Mr. Vitor and Mrs. Herminia, this family-owned eatery offers a cozy atmosphere where everyone is treated like family. The menu features mouth-watering Portuguese comfort food such as bifana, a delightful combination of tender pork meat and flavorful beer-based sauce in a soft traditional bun.
Decided on this booking through trip advisor Definitely book in advance as it fills very quickly. Small quirky Portuguese bistro with authentic Portuguese cuisine We went for the pork belly and pork cheek with rice and potato’s that was divine and so tender to cut Desert was the chocolate mousse that definitely didn’t disappoint This paired with a few cold superbocks marked the perfect start to a Saturday evening. Will definitely recommend to anyone who decides to holiday in Porto

After reading all the positive reviews and judging by the queue to get in, I had quite high expectations. It turned out to be ‘ok’ but I wouldn’t rave about it. We visited for lunch and at a busy time which probably had an effect as service was pretty slow and I didn’t think the food was anything special. Reasonably priced to be fair. My daughter had the sardines and rice in tomato sauce, I had the pork in breadcrumbs layered with cheese, fried egg and curry sauce. Best part was the crème brûlée. Fries were quite greasy…nice atmosphere and friendly staff but probably not one I’d queue and wait for again.

A cozy tavern with a real homey atmosphere. If you come with a group, it’s best to book a table in advance, but if you’re alone, there’s always a spot at the lively bar. The food is amazing – the meat was so tender it literally fell off the bone. Desserts were also excellent, especially the chocolate mousse and crème brûlée. The staff work very quickly, and the manager, who speaks five languages, makes the atmosphere even more welcoming. Definitely recommend this place!

absolutely great experience. The atmosphere, the place and the most important - the food were fantastic! we ordered 3 dishes and we didn't expect that they will be so big! Real Portuguese food, fresh ingredients and very good prices! I recommend for 100 %, especially the meat stew with beans. This lunch made our day and the full impression of local food. Thanks for your work guys!

We had heard great things about this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try! The food was good, though quite heavy with very large portions. It might just be that we didn’t choose the best dishes for the season—on a very hot summer day, the stew-based menu felt a bit too rich, and we couldn’t finish our plates. Service was friendly and efficient, and we definitely recommend booking a table in advance.

The roasted ham shank was good, so is the pig cheek in red wine. A cozy little restaurant with good food and atmosphere. I however didn't like the creme brulee, it could be better, but just my opinion.

The foods are worth recommending. But!!, be careful of the 6 shady bacalhau croquettes at the beginning, they are not free. We said we don’t eat them and please take them away, but in the end they are still in the receipt. After complaining, they are gone, but the behavior remains very shady.

Terrific lunch. Had the smoked salmon and feta sandwich and it was delicious. Everything looked good and I’ll likely be back this trip it was that good. Heads up, cash only, so go to the ATM before coming, it’s worth it for a good, quick, inexpensive meal.

We were looking for a quick breakfast spot near where we were staying and came across this place on Google. The menu showed sandwiches for around 5–6 euros, which seemed like a good deal. However, once we arrived, we realized the online menu was outdated - the actual price for a sandwich was 9 euros, which felt a bit overpriced for what it was. That said, we decided to stay and see if it was worth it. The sandwiches were good - not mind-blowing, but the flavors were nicely balanced and overall tasty. Still, I’d say the price felt a bit too high for a simple breakfast sandwich. The shop itself is tiny, so depending on how busy it is, it can feel a bit cramped. But there’s Wi-Fi and a bathroom, which is convenient. In summary, it’s a decent spot for a tasty sandwich, but probably not the most economical choice for breakfast - especially if you’re expecting prices listed online. Still, if you’re nearby and want something quick and flavorful, it’s a solid option. If the prices were a bit lower, I’d definitely come back. The food was good, but considering the portion size and cost, it felt more like a one-time visit rather than a regular spot.

Leitaria da Quinta do Paço is a well-established brand with 9 stores across mainland Portugal, dating back to its foundation in 1920. Initially focused on dairy products, it has expanded its offerings to include delicious cakes and eclairs with various toppings. The café is famous for serving coffee alongside their renowned eclairs filled with Chantilly and milk chocolate icing. The interior is adorned with vintage photographs from the 1920s, showcasing the historical popularity of their Chantilly.
This was recommended by a Portuguese friend. Over the moon that she mentioned it to us. Famous for its eclairs. These celebrity items include classic (chocolate), lemon, caramel and many other flavours. Most of them have soft icing on top, but there is one with a brittle topping. They sell other sweet things like cakes and Berliner (doughnuts) too. We got a menu (Brunch Guloso) which included a croissant filled with Chantilly cream, a sneclair, orange juice and a cafe espresso. The croissant is not like a french one, as it's more like a brioche rather than flaky pastry. We thought it might be odd with cream inside, but we loved it. The sneclair is a savoury eclair and it's was an outstanding invention. We had it with eggs and bacon. It was a light meal, which was exactly what we needed. Then we had 2 small eclairs (so we could try more flavours rather than having just 1 big one). We got a classic and passion fruit and mango. They were nice. It's pretty much like an original (i.e. French) eclair, but slightly wider. We liked them very much nonetheless. In all we spent €10,90 and think it was value for money. Paid by credit card. Plenty of seating inside and outside just before 1.45pm on a Tuesday in September. Definitely worth a visit for tourists! They have other outposts if you can't make it over here. Taberna São Pedro is a charming restaurant located in Vila Nova de Gaia, known for its authentic and fresh seafood dishes. The restaurant offers a variety of grilled fish, shrimp, and squid sourced from the nearby fishing hamlet. Visitors can enjoy traditional Portuguese appetizers such as salad, olives, and octopus with greens sauce before indulging in main courses like gilthead served with garlic potatoes.
Another exceptionally good fish and seafood lunch at São Pedro. We were here 10 years ago and we came back to repeat the experience of on street dining and cooking. We arrived just after 1pm and were lucky to get a table straight away. 10 minutes later then there were huge queues waiting. Great selection of seafood on offer and m m as well as meat. The seafood is all fresh and tastes so good coming directly off the grill. We were sitting right next to it so we had the smoke effect too. We didn’t mind. The salad and bread they bring is an extra charge and you can say you don’t want it. The salad for 2 was 4€ so we took it as we were hungry after biking for the morning. We had the whole sea bass, and half portion of sardines and cuttlefish. All cooked to perfection. The cook takes special care of the grill. For the dessert, have to go for the Creme brûlée as there is pure theater as they caramelize the sugar with a hot disc direct from the grill. It also warms the creme nicely. Including drinks, potatoes, 3 seafood dishes and dessert the bill was 50€, which we thought it was good value for money.

Probably one of the best seafood restaurants around Porto! We visited in August and had an unforgettable experience! The sardines were incredibly flavorful, grilled to perfection over charcoal, and the seafood was as fresh as it gets. Warm, family-style hospitality and a place mostly visited by locals make it truly authentic. Highly recommended!

Had our last dinner during our visit to Porto seated outside with perfect weather. Service was excellent and the seafood was incredible. Charcoal-grilled sardines, shrimp, cod with a small octopus appetizer were all amazing paired with wine. Highly recommend this spot when visiting.

The taste, the falvor and the smell of grilled seafood is out of this world! A great little gem on the other side of Porto. Everything was fresh and delicious, from local Sardines to shrimp, squid and Sole.

Today we visited Taberna São Pedro for the third time. After 2 dinners, we decided to have lunch as well. The fish is very fresh, of great quality and prepared very nicely. We ate Perch, Sole Fish, and Tarbot as the cherry on the cake today. The tarbot was big enough for the three of us. The restaurant serves good wines for a very acceptable price, and good quality. We tried their white house wine, vinhõ verde from the draft, as well as two different bottles from the menu. We enjoyed all of them, but our favorite was the Planalto. The service is outstanding. It’s a family restaurant which feels very welcoming from the moment you sit down until you leave. It was a joy to be a guest, and without a doubt we will return whenever we are in Gaia again. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fish, and appreciates the genuine service the team provides. An extra thanks to their son for the recommendations during our visits over the past days. We are excited to return in the near future. Molto obrigado! 🙏🏻

Incredible. Simple! Best meal we had in Portugal! We had sea food only. No meat no fish. Just wow!

An authentic locals restaurant with catch of the day. We had 5 seafood dishes cooked over coals; plus salad, rice and 2 types of potatoes, 2 bottles of wine @ €25 per head.

Lareira - Baixa is a cozy tasca in Porto that offers a simple yet inviting atmosphere. With two locations, it provides a taste of authentic Portuguese flavors and hospitality. The menu features a variety of dishes including smoked meats, cheese boards, octopus salad, pica pau, flaming chourico, chanfana, fried potatoes and ham. For dessert, guests can indulge in traditional Aveiro sweets like sweet tripe and crackers.
Dishes are ready great. Beatriz and other waiters served us well. Really enjoyed the vibe here. Will definitely come here again.

Food was not fancy but delicious. We had Becalhau (not the dumplings), Rojoes and Pork shank sandwich. Becalhau was super good, must try if you like fish. Rojoes was a hearty, home dish but not too amazing. The sandwich was in decent portion, with flavourful, meaty pulled pork shank. For drinks we had sangria in port wine and somersby. The Sangria was quite sweet but its expected, quite refreshing indeed, I do recommend. Our waiter and waitress (Gustav and Alexandra) were very friendly and responsive. Had a great night here.

This was our first meal in Porto and what a great way to start! We had the steak special and the rojões along with sangria and beer and then the cheesecake ice cream for dessert. The sandwiches were delicious. The meat was so tender. Chips went with it perfectly. The ice cream was yummy. Prices are very reasonable too. Lots of tables available. It was full even at 2:30-3pm. We would happily eat here again and recommend this place to others.

Intimate restaurant with good prices and excellent sangria. I paid €14 for a sandwich and one glass of sangria tinto. Their sandwiches are the main attraction and did not disappoint.

Great place to stop for a quick lunch. We ordered two bifanas and beers and it only came to €15! The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious - would highly recommend if in the area!

This place is a gem If you want to try tradditional dishes. Verde soup I would skip. Must get the bread and a dip it into that wine style sauce that comes with a mini sausages and beef

The restaurant Restaurante Cana Verde is a great place to go if you're looking for authentic Portuguese dishes. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help, and the food is delicious and not too expensive. You can try all the deserts for free if you want but be warned - they're huge!
Highly recommended. The food, service and ambience were 10/10, service more like 12/10. We almost walked out since there was a line but we decided to wait and it was quick and well worth it. It tastes like a home cooked meal in the best way. Prices impossible to beat. Friendly staff who “force” free drinks on you. You don’t want to miss this place.

Such a good experience! The atmosphere is great and the food it's the traditional Portuguese. But the hightlight is the staff, so friendly and with a Portuguese sense of humor. We had a great time. I hardly recommend it. A pleasant surprise to find something so genuine in the middle of such a touristy area of Porto.
Ana P — Google review
Canna Verde is one of those cozy, genuine spots in Porto that instantly makes you feel welcome. Tucked away from the main crowds, it offers a warm atmosphere, delicious traditional dishes, and some of the friendliest staff we met in the city — cheerful, attentive, and clearly proud of what they do. We started with the soup, simple yet comforting — the kind of homemade flavor that sets the tone for a proper Portuguese meal. For mains, we shared grilled sardines and duck rice, both cooked beautifully. The sardines were fresh and smoky with just the right touch of char, while the duck rice was hearty, flavorful, and deeply satisfying — exactly the kind of dish that makes you slow down and enjoy. The balance of good food, fair prices, and genuinely kind service made this place stand out. It’s not flashy or touristy — just authentic, honest cooking served with a smile.

We had a fantastic experience at Cana Verde! The wine service was excellent, perfectly paired with the dishes. The duck rice was rich and flavorful, and the sea bass was cooked to perfection. But what truly made our visit unforgettable was the staff. They were not only warm and attentive, but also witty and hilarious. Even standing in line was fun thanks to their playful jokes and charm! Their energy and care made the whole experience feel special. Highly recommended for amazing food, wine, and a great dose of humor!

Arrived around 12:30 pm and the place was already packed. We waited about 5 minutes before being seated. The menu is brought straight to you and you order right away. It’s simple, straightforward, and without gimmicks. Drinks are taken separately after. The place is fantastic! Lots of locals were eating there, which says a lot—the food is both delicious and affordable. Service was excellent too. I’d recommend this spot without hesitation! Oh and we read that it was cash only so we paid with cash and saw everyone paying with cash too.

We got there right as it opened and Thank God we did because it filled up in 15 minutes. The Seabass and Sardine was one of the best we ever had and the steak was great too. The side bread was soft and tasty. The staff understood gluten free and was able to ensure that we had a great meal.

Universal Porto is a restaurant in Portugal that serves local food. The people are warm and the food tastes great.
Small but lovely restaurant and the prices are excellent. They don't speak English at all, but the service was excellent. In Porto and generally in Portugal is expected that they put entrances in some places without advice, so if you don't want it, ask them to remove it.

Highly recommend this family runs local restaurant. The homemade food was exceptionally well cooked by couple chef, Carlos & Mabília. Their daughter speaks very good English, warm welcoming service. The restaurant established since 2006. Ordered vegetable soup and grilled squid with potatoes and vegetables. They were freshly made upon order. Affordable prices. Good portion. Lovely local ambience. Obrigada ☺️ Definitely will come to eat every evening while I am in Porto.

A place that represents Portuguese hospitality very well! Most dishes are very inexpensive: around €9. The quantities are very generous and the products are of the highest quality. Special mention goes to the service, which is at the top, and of a great kindness. Obrigado!

Nice cover to start, very tasty. We had three main dishes of mixed meat, tuna and cod fish. Two of the dishes were outstanding. Sadly the cod fish was tail end, so too many bones for our liking. The young lady serving is very friendly and does it all with a smile. The owners are also super welcoming. I recommend this restaurant, because we enjoyed a number of traditional Portuguese dishes on offer..

Cozinha das Flores is an exceptional restaurant that offers a remarkable dining experience. The staff, atmosphere, food, and wine are all top-notch and can rival any Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Even without a reservation, the beautiful interior compelled diners to change their plans on the spot. The signature dish, turnip natas with caviar, is known for its sheer extravagance.
We couldn’t have chosen a better restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The team was extremely attentive and we felt very well taken care of. We loved the open kitchen and seeing the chefs work in a calm environment. Our favourites were the sweet prawn and steamed egg cake, the steak and the warm turnip green salad 🦐 🥩 🫜 Best steak we ever had 🙌🏼 Cocktails were amazing too and very unique

Enjoyable dinner overall. The bite size starter dishes (I tried three) were creative and interesting, though missed the mark slightly on flavour — more conceptually clever than delicious. I had the John Dory for my main, which was good, but I definitely had food envy when I saw the beef fillet being served nearby — I’d recommend going for that instead! Service was warm, although I was forgotten about at the end and could have walked without paying (I didn’t!). Still, staff were friendly and the space was immaculate, with great attention to detail in the food. Worth a visit. Bill €130 1 person / 3 courses & 2 drinks

We had our best meal in Porto here! The ambience was warm and lovely. The dishes were top quality, a rendition of refined local cuisine. We loved that each dish was carefully and thoughtfully explained to us. To top it off, Pamela attended to us in such a friendly and helpful manner. We felt very welcome thanks to her. Can’t wait to visit when we are back and definitely would recommend dining here!

Every once in a while, you come across a restaurant that truly blows your socks off—and this was one of those experiences. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was exceptional without being intrusive. We both ordered the filet, and it was absolutely outstanding—perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. Every bite melted in the mouth, easily one of the best steaks we’ve ever had. The sides complemented the dish beautifully, and the presentation was elegant. It was a dining experience we won’t soon forget, and we’ll definitely be returning.
Jack C — Google review
Hands down my favorite restaurant. The consistently delicious food and outstanding service are what keep me coming back. The ambiance is warm and stylish, and I love being able to see into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. It adds something special to the entire experience. We always start with a few of the snack dishes. The spider crab donuts are a must — light, flavorful, and the perfect way to begin the meal. We like to explore the other snacks too, and one standout has been the crispy laminated dough with cockles, which bursts with flavor and texture. For starters, the smoked squid from the Azores with chickpeas is always a favorite. It’s rich, perfectly cooked, and full of depth. The asparagus options tend to be lighter and refreshing, offering a nice contrast to the bolder flavors. When it comes to main dishes, the John Dory and grilled beef fillet are both beautifully prepared and reliably excellent. That said, I find myself returning to the wild blue fish and pork shoulder steak. They’re both unique, flavorful, and absolutely worth trying. If you’re dining with a group, the tomato and blue lobster rice is a fantastic shared dish — generous and deeply satisfying. Dessert is not to be missed. The Milk dessert is one of the most creative I’ve had. It captures the essence of sweet milk in multiple forms, and it’s delicate, not overly sweet. On our latest visit, we also tried the cherry stone ice cream. The cherries had just the right amount of tartness, making it a refreshing and memorable way to end the meal. Some items change with the seasons, but the menu is always balanced and full of inspired choices. We love bringing friends and family here because we know they’ll experience the same incredible food and service we always do.

Casa Expresso is a charming, budget-friendly eatery with a simple and ever-changing menu displayed on a board. The atmosphere feels like enjoying homemade meals at your mom's place. The staff is accommodating, even if you don't speak Portuguese. The food is described as generous, home-cooked, and of high quality without any frills. It's popular among locals for its authentic Portuguese dishes at affordable prices.
The best meal we had in Portugal. If you know you know good food, this restaurant is not to be missed. The environment is rustic and lively and the service is prompt with great recommendations from the staff. We had the pork roll, soup with meat and blood (surprisingly amazing) and the homemade wafer cake for desert (which I wouldn’t normally go for but was recommended and incredible). We’ll be coming back again tomorrow.

This! Still my favourite eat in all of Portugal. This humble tavern serves a range of traditional Portuguese fare but the true star of the show is the slow cooked Rojoes. I've been here multiple times now and it's the place I look forward to visiting most when I'm in Porto. Expect a long wait for a table if you're coming for dinner especially if you're in a big group. The best time to come is at the end of lunch service. If I'm not just grabbing one of the face-melting Sandos I'm ordering a full portion of the stewed pork, a side of patas fritas and a couple of beautiful fried eggs. All is accompanied by fresh crusty bread and a banging home made hot sauce. There are multiple dining areas, one at the bar, one in front of the kitchen and main room. The atmosphere is as local as it gets so expect to wait your turn. Hopefully they don't stay closed for long!

The best sandwich we had in Portugal! This little hidden gem is more of a local coffee shop where people stop by for a quick bite. If you’re after a unique experience, this is the place to be! The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful, served on fresh bread—everything you could want in a sandwich!

Wow, what a bifana! Arrived early (around 9:30) and they only had bifana on the menu. Which is not an issue because it's the best bifana I've had in Portugal. The place is kinda anonymous and there's not really a sign outside. It's the one with red doors and white ceiling. They accept card.

Restaurante Cantina 32 is a laid-back and popular spot among the trendy locals, offering two sittings to reflect the Mediterranean way of life. The restaurant features large communal tables as well as smaller spots for more intimate dining. The menu includes large terracotta sharing dishes such as roast octopus with sweet potatoes and modern twists on classic Portuguese plates like fresh pink tuna with pineapple and seafood and chorizo stew.
Excellent. Squid and portobello appetizer is excellent. The bread with banana butter is very good. Octopus is a must. We ate here 3 times. Everything we tried was great. Reasonable prices. Make a reservation as they fill up fast. They open at 6:30 and the line starts at 6:15. Reservations are at 7. The sangria is great and a lot of wine choices. Felix and John were very helpful. Make sure to save room for wonderful desserts. We liked the chocolate cake, cheesecake, and carrot cake. Cappuccino was very good. Bathrooms were very clean.

Dropped by for lunch. We were just walking around Porto soaking in the atmosphere and saw that this restaurant had a decent rating. There was a line to get in , but that was because they were just opening. We were not so hungry so ordered the Portugese stew of Squid and Shrimp. The quailty of the ingredients was fine. But the sauce was brought in a separate jug and poured over. This left the squid and shrimp tasting very bland .The menu said the dish was for two persons but we were still hungry. A little pricey for what we were served. We went down to the Mercado and had something to eat and drink there! We wanted to order dessert but decided to go somewhere else.

Excellent octopus! Very tasty. Nice presentation. Price quality for octopus also good. The othet things were a bit on the expensive side. Especially the tuna appetizer. And the salad (lettuce) which was literally a quarter lettuce with dome cheese but almost 4€. The alheir crockets on the other hand were very nice and tasty really like alhier sausage. The banana butter, olives and bread were part of the curvert (2.50 pp). They were of good quality but we were a bit dissapointed that we got the same amount of bread butter and olices with the 5 of us as other people that were with a party of 2. (The banana butter tasted really like banana and was tasty as well.) We couldnt order a big bottle of water to share (nor still nor sparkling) only small bottles. The ambience was very nice. All in all. Nice restaurant for octopus. A bit on the expensive side. Service could be a bit more generouz looking at the water and the curvert.

This is one of my favourite institutions in Porto! Their Sandos are next level, made using their in house smoked ham and funky local sheep/cow cheese. Cash only, with plenty of locals lining the bar. In house chilled red is banging and they serve vino verde at a great price! Decor is excellent, definitely recommend checking out if you're in the area.

Very nice mom and pop shop. You can tell from the pictures they been here for quite some time. It's very much a neighborhood place, right across the police station. Without speaking a word of English they really did their best to accommodate us. Too bad the warm dishes are only available in the afternoon. I went early to beat the lunch traffic. Ordered a Sande de Presunto com Queijo with a bowl of Vinho Verde tinto (yes, it came in a small bowl). Also had a beer and added a Sande de Morcella to pair with it. 😋 Definitely a recommend. It's very cheap and true quality.

Had the classic prosciutto sandwich, a bit too much meat for my liking but great product for the price, it's simple and the meat isn't too "beasty" of a flavor for those who aren't a fan of a more intense taste.

The restaurant has gained recognition for its fun and intriguing dishes using mostly plant-based ingredients.
An absolutely amazing place. Felt a little rushed to begin with but I get that they want to get the first order in. Food was so GOOD! I mean really good. I was recommended this place and it didn't disappoint. Staff amazingly friendly. Each dish has to be savoured. Enjoyed. The flavour pairings were amazing. I would love to go back for a taster menu with paired wines. In terms of cost, it is very reasonable. I would pay twice this in London or Paris.

Overall: Extremely underwhelming food, but friendly service. Food: We liked the concept of this restaurant, but every single dish was overpriced for what you get. Not only that, but everything lacked flavor. I’ve eaten at many vegetarian restaurants around the world, and I wouldn’t recommend this one—even if the prices were lower. Service: The staff were friendly, which is the only reason this place gets an extra star.
Kieran D — Google review
Every single bite was so unique and absolutely delicious. The depth and layers of flavor were satiating alone. As a self-proclaimed foodie and flavor critic I am always finding where meals can be “elevated” to be more satisfying - these dishes needed nothing. They were all perfectly balanced in flavor, texture and portion. If I could have pushed a button to rewind and have the meal all over again I would have. The ambiance is cozy and earthy, the service was exceptional, the presentation was art and the chef was visibly focused, pouring love and intention into every dish. 10/10 will definitely be back, can not recommend this place enough!!

Really amazing unique vegetarian food. Totally worth it to come all the way from Porto to get this. The nearby beach is also really nice. I really like how they bring one dish out at a time. It's almost like a build your own tasting menu. My wife and I shared 4 mains + dessert and I think that was the right amount of food to order.
Sandeep V — Google review
What a great dinner. One of the best vegetarian experiences I had in Portugal so far. Celery root with "oyster" sorbet was an amazing starting point, the katso sando and "seathings" rice elevated it a bit more, and the white chocolate and green curry desert was the perfect finish.
Jose M — Google review
Genuinely vegetarian restaurant that takes creativity seriously. The decor is "green" elegant without trying too hard, and the staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. We came for a family dinner — reservation was simple to make online and definitely recommended. The chef’s vegetarian creations are original and beautifully presented. We shared six dishes among three people, and each one felt like the new favorite. The cold “Beetroot, gorgonzola, black garlic and lamb’s lettuce” set the tone perfectly, while the warm “Açorda of brioche and tupí, turnip tops and wild mushrooms” was unforgettable. The reimagined Black Forest dessert closed the evening on a high note. Yes, prices are on the upper side, but they’re justified by the ingredient quality, the creativity on the plate, and the level of service. Not a place for meat lovers — this is where vegetables take the spotlight. I only wish there were a restaurant like this closer to home. I’d return without hesitation.

Restaurant
The restaurant Chez Lapin is well-known for its beautiful terrace right next to the Rio Douro. The chefs recommend ordering the baked octopus and cod or the rabbit entree. It's an emblematic restaurant that has been serving the city for 70 years.
Top notch food. I have the pork cheeks every time I go. Delicious. Knowledgeable Wait-staff. Make sure to walk behind the promenade along the Douro River to see the interior space of this restaurant which has an amazingly decorated ceiling, and ancient timbers that formed part of the old wall of the old city of Porto. Good wine list, And a waiter to guide you through it all.

Mediocre food but great location right by the river. Really nice atmosphere at night. Service was quick although they were busy. Not so attentive though. Food was alright, nothing special. Steak was just not good quality. The chicken dish was pretty good. The sausages had a good presentation but taste wise lacked flavour. Overall would not recommend. 5/10

Great location by the river. We sat outside and were able to order quickly. Everything was generally ok, however the rabbit was very tough. We couldn’t cut it with knives and had to resort to fingers in order to eat it!! Rabbit should be cooked until it almost falls off the bone and is tender and sweet. The gravy however was divine! The wine was very good too. Service was efficient. I feel this restaurant caters more for tourists, but the view is beautiful.

Good restaurant by the river. The food was pretty good. The bacalhau with cream sauce was excellent. The portions are generous. In the evening, the atmosphere is pleasant with passers-by on the riverbank and the lights from the bridge.

Service was top match wonderful view. My wife’s fish and the sausage was really good, my pork loin was a little bit dry.

This was the worst dinner I’ve ever had, without question. First, the hygiene was appalling: some staff handled food directly with their bare hands, went from carrying slop buckets straight back to cooking, and even placed receipts right on top of prepared dishes. Absolutely unacceptable. Second, the food quality was dreadful. The paella was served cold, as if the rice and seafood were just carelessly mixed together. Almost all of the clams were closed, which means they had already died before cooking—clearly not fresh, and truly concerning. I would strongly advise against coming here.

The most delicious octopus I've ever eaten is here. Super soft. Price - 32 Eur. The waiter is not shy about stating the amount of tip he wants...

The food was UNEDIBLE! The fish was so over cooked and honestly tasted disgusting, we couldn’t eat it. €25 for roasted cod, you expect it to even be a little nice. The only thing nice about this place is the location. Don’t bother eating here . Very busy so service was lacking and they didn’t want to take card machine.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Porto's picturesque Ribeira neighborhood, Jimao Tapas e Vinhos is a delightful little tapas restaurant that captures the essence of Portuguese cuisine. This charming eatery occupies a quaint two-story stone building, exuding a cozy and romantic atmosphere perfect for intimate dinners. The extensive menu caters to all palates, featuring an array of delectable dishes such as succulent pork cheeks and sautéed mushrooms with asparagus, alongside vegetarian options.
Very yummy tapas style food! Definitely a bit more of a gastronomic experience than some of the other restaurants on this street. The octopus with squid ink pasta was very good but my personal favourite was the shrimp - so flavorful! Service was pretty good but it definitely takes quite awhile for your food to come.
Megan W — Google review
A cozy little place and friendly service. The food is ok, definitely not the best tapas around. The mushroom risotto was the best part of the meal and the portion was quite large. The shrimp tasted ok but were a bit overcooked. The pumpkin appetizer was decent. Overall, nothing special but not bad either.

Do yourself a favour and don't eat along the Quayside that's where all the tourists go. Venture up a side street and you come across this amazing restaurant. The owner and staff are just fantastic so polite and accommodating. I was shown to a table upstairs which was perfect and had great views with lovely decor and atmosphere. The waitresses helped choose the food and wine which was perfect. The food was gorgeous and so tasty served at just the right speed leaving a little time between each course to relax and enjoy the meal. If I could give this restaurant more than five stars then I would, I definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had lunch at Jimao back in April 2018 and loved it! We made sure to stop by for dinner on this trip (Mar 2024). The service nor the food has changed- its as good or better than I remember!!! Everything we had was delicious!! Wine, tapas and desserts. Definitely recommend this place. We didn't think March would be crowded in Porto but, we were wrong. Its a small but charming place. So, make reservations to guarantee a table. We tried without one and couldn't get in but returned the next day.

We were greeted warmly by Carmen who is the proprietor of this beautiful restaurant. She is passionate and knowledgeable about everything that comes out of the kitchen, her understanding of the wine pairing also helped us enjoy our meal immensely. If you are feeling adventurous, let Carmen order for you! You wont regret it! Also, try to book if you can as the resultant fills up very quickly. A must try in Porto!

Great food! One review mentioned they didn't like the shrimps, but it might be a result of bad translation in the English menu. I see they aren't shrimp, but prawns. Slightly different but closely related and have different flavors. I loved it. The codfish was amazing as was the octopus and pasta. Bread and olive oils was great quality. Try and make reservations beforehand as they fill up.

Absolutely delicious!!!! 12/10, would return at any time! Each dish was amazing and lovely, we shared everything. The red wine sangria was also some of the best I’ve had. Hope to return soon. Must have reservation

The person that owns this restaurant went out of her way to show us the very best of what this restaurant had to offer. We left our order up to her, resulting in the most incredible food being delivered to our table. The prawns in beer and butter sauce, the slow cooked beef cheek, the octopus with black pasta, everything was amazing. Her choice of wine, stunning. We were so full we couldn’t fit in dessert but ended up ordering two, just to try them. If you’re visiting Porto. Go.

Sandeman is a historic winery housed in a 1797 building, offering guided tours of its port cellars and tastings. The cellar boasts an impressive collection of vintage ports dating back to the 19th century, including vintages from 1815, 1820, 1834, and 1847.
The wine tour was fantastic with a great guide who managed to answer all the questions. We went for the 5 wine tasting which was with a group size of 10 people and held in a private room which made it feel even more special. I have to agree with our host that for value for money and taste that the 20 year tawny wine was by far the best in all respects. A worthwhile tour with a lasting memory!

We did the tour! The tour guide was dressed up as the wine label logo, which was fun! Able to sample three varieties at the end of the tour - not our favorite but still enjoyed the experience.

Visited Sandeman’s Port Cellar in Gaia recently—and wow, what a treat! The cellar sits right on the riverfront, so it’s easy to find and sets a lovely scene. We opted for the three port tastings. Our guide walked us through where all the barrels, casks and vintage bottles as stored along with the story of the timeless “Don,” and Sandeman’s 200-year legacy. The group was small, which made it feel relaxed and personal. Highly recommended—just be sure to book ahead! Whether you go for the quick visit or the aged-tawny indulgence, it's a classy experience with a side of story and scenery.

This is an amazing tour of one of the premium brands of ports. Though it was originally an English business it is now owned by the same company that makes Mateus rosé. Our guide through the seller was very knowledgeable and personable. Her ability to explain the process of making port and other fortified wines was wonderful. The tour itself takes you through the aging barrels and into a screening room where a video is played of the process. The tour ended in the sales roomwhere a tasting of the white port and a Tory port was provided. There was been an opportunity to purchase some of these fantastic ports. A wonderful tour of a great port maker in the city that made port famous.

The port tour and tasting here was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions in detail. The tasting consisted of five ports in a private room at the end of the tour which was a very nice touch. We’d highly recommend you try Sandeman’s for your port cellar and tasting tour!

The Sandeman 1790 tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Porto. It’s great value for money. The tour itself was really interesting and just the right length. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the small group size made the whole experience feel more personal. The best part was the tasting at the end in the private 1790 room. It’s a beautiful space and gives the whole experience an extra touch that you wouldn’t get in the regular tasting room. Highly recommend choosing this version of the tour.

Confeitaria do Bolhão is a historic pastry shop located in Porto, founded in 1896 and recently recovered by a Venezuelan family. It offers a wide variety of traditional Portuguese pastries, savory items, sandwiches, and an array of breads. Situated across the street from the iconic Bolhao market, it provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in Portuguese food culture.
We really enjoyed the time we had in the café. We came in around 2 o'clock in the afternoon for the sweets and also took a rest a bit. We ordered galao (like latte) and four pieces of pastries like pastel de nata, bola de berlim, estaladinho and folhado de chocolate. Everything tasted good and I was totally satisfied after all. Best of all, it costed 7 euros only! We will come again for sure.

Super authentic Portuguese bakery/pastry shop. Great for take away but also if you want to stay there. It's very lively and there is a constant coming and going of people. The waiters seem busy but are super nice. And the price is outstanding for what you get. Tried to try a bit of everything but the menue is too big for one visit
Jeevan T — Google review
Confeitaria do Bolhão is lively, hectic, and unmistakably local — exactly the kind of place that gives Porto its charm. Around thirty small tables pack the space, and you’ll likely sit shoulder to shoulder with other guests while two energetic waiters manage the entire room with impressive speed. Up front, the counter is filled with both sweet and savory pastries, all fresh and tempting. Be patient — it’s always busy — but the wait is worth it. Closed on Sundays, but on any other morning it’s a perfect spot to start the day, enjoy a proper coffee, and sample local specialties in an authentic atmosphere. If you have the time, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

Love this place. Delicious pastries, great coffee, open at 6am for early birds, fair prices, classic interior but what really made it for me was the charming service, comfortable helping tourists with limited English and limited Portuguese. Bonus points for providing a water dispenser to wash down the coffee with. The ordering system is okay once you work it out. Order at the counter, take a seat at the back, they'll find you with your order and give you an ID card for the bill. If you want to order more, you go back to the man overseeing the seating area, or the counter, with the same card. You pay on the way out, handing the card to the cashier at the exit/entrance. They don't label the baked goods, so if you're not a native (or even if you are?!), you're best taking a photo, showing it to the counter staff and saying the quantity you want (in English, was fine). I never used the toilets, so can't comment on them. It's a great place to get up early for, charge up, relax and get ready to attack the day, especially if like me you don't like hotel breakfasts (they're all the same and it's one less opportunity to go somewhere new). Also, getting up early in a hot country while it's cooler is a good idea, plus you can avoid a lot of crowds of tourists.

Confeitaria do Bolhao was one of my favorite cafes while in Porto. I visited several times for breakfast and bought many pastries to take home. All the pastries here were delicious. They were flaky and didn't stick to my mouth. The sandwiches were also delicious. The coffee and chocolate were also delicious. The service was excellent, efficient, and fast. The prices were very affordable.

Stepping into Confeitaria do Bolhão feels like stepping back in time. The old-world charm, mirrored walls, and smell of fresh pastries make it a true Porto classic. Staff were kind and quick even during the rush, and prices are fair. It gets busy, but that’s part of its magic. patience will be well compensated.A must-stop for anyone exploring the city! Tried their Bolo Rei, tigelinhas de Bolhao and another one. Loved all of them esp the bolo rei. Their Espresso are mini Espresso though :)

Traditional Portuguese desserts disappointed me most of the time😔this passion fruit tart is nth as it should be, the tart is basically some digestive biscuit mixed with butter and not baked, and the mousse filling is just like flavourless milk jelly, with some sweet passionfruit jam on top. Not sure if other stuff would taste better but I saw most of the comments written in Chinese expressed the same feeling🤣⋯⋯

Terra Nova is an upscale, intimate restaurant located in Porto, offering traditional Portuguese cuisine with Italian influences. Situated on the Douro River, it provides stunning views of the Ribeira neighborhood and the Port wine cellars in Cais de Gaia. The restaurant is known for its exquisite seafood dishes, including codfish loin with bean stew and rice, as well as oysters.
We chanced by this restaurant from the reviews and wanting a view by the river. The experience was great. The food was prepared with a subtle and balanced taste which was not overpowering, which is unlike what we have tried so far in our trip. We ordered pasta and risotto and they were all great. Fries were freshly cut and fried. Remember to get the dessert.

We made a reservation, mainly because of the location - looking for something with 'decent reviews by the waterfront' and the fact that it was easy to make a reservation online. That said, we got what we were looking for - a really nice experience from our outdoor table, during golden hour/sunset, on a warm evening - that was perfect. Our food was good, nothing to complain about, but it wasn't the best meal we had in Porto, in my opinion. Service was efficient but not overly friendly. You get really close to your table neighbours here - there isn't a lot of space between tables. But the vibe is good because it's such a nice experience watching the people stroll by, seeing the sun set, listening to the buskers, etc. There are a number of restaurants right beside each other in a row, so you have to look carefully for this one. All-in-all, to be able to book ahead online, for an outdoor table, with a view, and solid food, this was a good choice.

The food and wine were all absolutely fantastic, especially the octopus risotto and burrata cheese salad! The seasoning was simple yet timeless. I sat on the terrace, with a fantastic view of the Dom Luis Bridge and the sunset, and musicians playing right in front of us. The staff were also fantastic, especially the manager Mimi, who was so warm and caring, making my trip to Porto even more special. I think this restaurant deserves a higher star rating; it was my favorite restaurant during my stay in Porto. Thank you!

첫날 점심에 도착하자마자 우연히 갔는데 맛집! 먹물 문어 리조또는 강추입니다!!! 친절해요 :) We stumbled upon this place by chance on our first afternoon in Porto — and it turned out to be a real gem. The squid ink octopus risotto was absolutely amazing — rich, deep in flavour, and cooked perfectly. The prawn risotto was also delicious and full of freshness. paired with both Vinho Verde and Port wine, and both were excellent. The staff were very kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. A fantastic find to kick off our trip!

A Wonderful Dinner After the Douro River Cruise We were two women visiting after enjoying a cruise along the Douro River. We didn’t have a reservation and were initially told the place was fully booked. However, after waiting about 10 minutes, we were lucky enough to get a table inside — which was great, especially because it was quite cold outside. (If you’re visiting during high season, we definitely recommend making a reservation!) We ordered a variety of dishes, 1. 6 oysters 2. Burrata salad with homemade pesto 3. Bacalhau à Brás (after the first dishes arrived) 4. Oyster pasta 5. Nero risotto with grilled octopus 6. Shrimp risotto 7. Nuts, cheese & pumpkin jam (+ 8.Fried codfish) While all the dishes were delicious, our absolute favorites were: 2. Burrata Salad We often order burrata wherever we go, but this one was exceptional. The homemade basil sauce complemented the creamy burrata perfectly — a standout dish. 3. Bacalhau à Brás We were intrigued by its unique appearance: finely shredded potatoes topped with a black seafood paste and a raw egg yolk. It turned out to be incredibly flavorful, with an amazing depth of umami from the seafood. 5. Black Risotto with Grilled Octopus The grilled octopus was some of the best we’ve ever had — tender and perfectly cooked. The risotto itself was rich, savory, and simply delicious. We also think the cheese & pumpkin jam listed under desserts would be perfect as a wine pairing or appetizer. Finally, what truly elevated our dining experience was the service by Dante♡♡♡ who was friendly, attentive, and made us feel warmly welcomed. Dante, do you remember the two Japanese women who ordered so many dishes? 😊 Thank you for the wonderful night and unforgettable food!

oysters were exclaimed by others to be very good and fresh but we found ours really small, and one of them shrivelled up which makes me worried about freshness. the rest of the dishes were okay but nothing to shout about service was efficient though it was weird that they served main courses and appetisers all at one go, which was not a great idea because the table is tiny. the waiter didn't bother to help arrange as well, just placed the plates on the table and left. the restaurant requires you to put down a credit card guarantee when you reserve. kind of regretted reserving a table here before coming into Porto because when we walked around town, there seemed to be much better and cheaper options

daTerra Baixa is a popular vegetarian and vegan restaurant located in downtown Porto, just a short walk from the Sao Bento train station. The stylish restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet with a variety of delicious soups, creative starters like hummus and veggie shots, and innovative plant-based dishes. The modern and minimalist decor creates a vibrant atmosphere with abundant natural light. They also serve breakfast for a set price and offer fresh juices and vegetarian desserts separately.
Five stars across the board. My wife and I both eat meat, fish, the works, and have been enjoying what Porto has to offer for a week now. So trust me when I say that even if you're not vegan, this spot has stellar food, not to mention excellent service. We particularly liked the mushroom katsu, which was one of my favorite dishes of our trip so far, and the passion fruit curry dessert, which was unique and delicious. Muito obrigado to the chef and staff here--if we weren't leaving in the morning we'd come back for lunch tomorrow!

Amazing vegan food in a self-service setup with a big and varied selection. Every day there are fresh soups, tasty pizzas, hot dishes, and a colorful mix of salads. The place has a clean, modern vibe that makes it easy to hang out and enjoy your meal. Gazela is a renowned snack bar in Porto, known for its unique hot dogs and classic Portuguese sandwiches. The establishment has gained widespread acclaim for its iconic hot dogs, which are made with crispy bread, fresh sausage, melted cheese, and a delicious spicy sauce. This no-frills eatery has even been featured on Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown. In addition to their famous hot dogs, Gazela also serves francesinhas at their new location on Rua de Entreparedes.
Gazela is a must-try spot for sandwiches done right. We tried several options: • The famous traditional hot dog – simple, crispy, and packed with flavor. • The ham and cheese sandwich – incredibly basic but unbelievably good. Sometimes the simplest things are the most satisfying. • The steak and cheese sandwich – juicy and flavorful. • And finally, the steak, cheese, ham, and sausage sandwich – a rich and indulgent bite for those who want it all. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed watching the team in action as they prepared the sandwiches with precision and energy. The vibe was great, and the entire staff had a genuinely positive attitude. Exceptional sandwiches and a welcoming atmosphere – Gazela is highly recommended!

I had so much fun eating here. Fantastic food, atmosphere and team. Recommend sitting at the bar near the chef so you can watch him weave his magic. Icy cold beers with cheesy hot dogs and steak/ham/cheese/egg sandwiches. The best.

On our first day in Porto, we went to Gazela for lunch to try their famous cachorrinhos, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We paired them with a Super Bock and it was the perfect combo. The meal was really good and surprisingly filling. The fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, which was a pleasant surprise, and the cachorrinho itself was delicious with crispy, flavorful bread and just the right amount of sauce. We sat outside and there was a line the entire time, but the wait was only about 10 to 15 minutes and totally worth it. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Porto!

The atmosphere of the place was great. You can feel it as soon as you enter. The waiters helped me choose my order, which was the steak sandwich (11.5 euro) and the superbock beer(2.20 euro). I really liked it, except that the meat was not cooked the way I prefer — it was a bit undercooked for my taste.😊 The place was full when I arrived, and there was a line when I left. Sometimes you may need to wait 😇

Even with the long queue outside, service was really great. Great quality for the price. Fries were excellent as they are cut by hand and about those sandwiches we will think for a long time

I finally tried the famous cachorrinho at Gazela in Porto. While the hot dog was tasty, the rest of the meal didn’t quite live up to the hype—the fries were underwhelming, and the service was slow and inattentive. It took quite a while to be seated, served, and to pay the bill. Overall, it was an average experience, though the prices were fair for what you get.

Cervejaria Gazela: Pure Porto Magic, Served Fast and Cheap Cervejaria Gazela isn't just a restaurant; it's a Porto institution, and a mandatory stop for anyone seeking authentic, high-quality street food served with lightning efficiency. This place excels by focusing on one thing and doing it perfectly: the Cachorrinho. The cachorrinho (Portuguese for "little hot dog") is the undisputed star. Forget what you know about hot dogs; this is a tiny, grilled, intensely flavorful sausage tucked into a crusty, buttered roll, cut into small, perfect pieces, and drenched in a spicy, secret sauce. It's an explosion of flavor that demands to be eaten in multiple rounds. Beyond the food, the experience is defined by efficiency and value. The service is incredibly fast. Whether the place is packed or quiet, your beer and cachorrinho hit the counter almost instantly. This rapid-fire service is matched only by the cheap prices. You can enjoy an amazing meal and several rounds of drinks without making a dent in your wallet. Speaking of drinks, the good beer on tap is fresh, cold, and the essential complement to the spicy, savory hot dogs. Gazela is a testament to how simple things done right can become legendary. It’s perfect for a quick lunch, a late-night snack, or a real taste of local Porto culture.

Munchie is a laid-back restaurant with several locations in the city, known for serving an array of delicious hamburgers with various toppings, along with chips and beers. It was one of the first burger places to open in the city and is considered one of the cheapest options while still maintaining incredible quality. The burgers are described as cheap, very tasty, and natural. The space at Munchie is quite small, but it offers a central location in Porto.
You know these places where the image is better than the food? Muchie is the OPPOSITE! The image looks good but the actual experience of having the burger is outstanding. Couldn’t recommend more!

Worst place. The burger was not fresh, the chicken seemed to be reheated, the cheese was cold and gummibear like, awful. They brought out the food, we didn’t hear the first name of the burger and i asked back, the waiter/ cashier looked at me very strictly and said the name again… Price is way too high for this quality. Service is awesome, nothing to complain about here, the staff is great! But regarding the food... We went last night and had wonderful burgers, something from another world. In fact, we liked it so much we came back the next day. Things were different then. Dry burgers, ugly bread, extremely small toppings, and overall a bad experience. We are not sure what happened, but I just cannot recommend this place as is. I intend to go back to Porto, and then maybe I will edit this review, but for now this is a 3/5 star place.

Good tasty burgers, good chips (not fries as it says on the menu), reasonable prices. Burger and chips room between 5.00€ and 6.90€. 50cl beer and 30cl very tasty sangria also for 2.50€ each. Munchie location at Praca de Filipa de Lancastre has limited seating as it has only 3 tables for two, two counter seating area with 3-4 stools reach inside and 3 table for four outside. Beware, it is cash only as they do not take foreign credit cards. Granted it's not a big deal but it is surprising for a popular tourist place they do not take credit cards.

My husband got the Picanhamunchie burger and it was SO GOOD. I had the Munchiezinha (got a bit obsessed with the Francesinha while in Porto) and it was good but not the same as a regular Francesinha. If we could go again I'd get the Picanhamunchie or another regular-style burger; they all looked amazing! They didn't have fries, only chips, so that was a bummer for me but it was still good. Overall, definitely a great place and we would go again.

I cannot remember what I ordered because it was months ago, but it was suggested by the cashier and I think had some bacon. With burgers sort of being like the international comfort food, Munchie wasn’t the best or too memorable, but this wasn’t to say it was bad. I remember it being slightly different — in a good way — just not enough to make me go “oh this is the best burger I have ever had”. I spent 2 weeks+ in Porto, and the wealth and diversity of Portuguese cuisine just hindered me from having a craving to come back. Perhaps when you have a craving for a francesinha or cachorrinho, but cannot afford the calorie bomb. That said, it is a nice place! I would definitely have visited again if I had a week or two more in Portugal to spend. The staff, from the cashier to the cooks (who bring you the food) were friendly and great! Definitely would choose this over any fast food chain. Also very fairly priced.

Burger was cooked perfectly. The sauce was very tasty. Bun while tasty, didn’t hold the integrity throughout and pieces fell off. The temperature balance was perfect. The potatoes, not my style, also oversalted. Big point here, potatoes shouldn’t be the chips format for a burger, we’re talking essentials and tastes. You may also like ananas on a Neapolitan pizza, doesn’t make it right! My suggestion: change the potatoes for crispy fries, and find a different yet as tasty bun; you’ll get gold!
Iliya P — Google review
Great place with great burgers. The place is bigger than you would expect from the first look. The burgers are amazing and served with a side of chips. If you like burgers you will like this place. During the week a lunch offer is available.

🌙 A Hidden Gem in Porto – The Perfect Last Night What an incredible find! Tucked away on a quiet street, this authentic little spot in Porto feels like stepping into another time — an old-generation vibe with soft lighting, stone walls, and that cozy “cave” atmosphere that makes you instantly relax. The service was warm, genuine, and unhurried — exactly what you hope for when you want to enjoy your last night in the city. The staff made me feel at home without ever being intrusive. The music was beautiful and perfectly matched the mood: gentle, soulful, and intimate. Every detail — from the decor to the rhythm of the evening — felt thoughtful and real. It’s one of those rare places that still carries the spirit of the old Porto: simple, welcoming, and full of charm. A true hidden gem — I couldn’t have imagined a better way to end my stay here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Every time we visit Porto, we make sure to come back to this restaurant – it’s become a favorite! The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal. The staff are always incredibly friendly and attentive, which really adds to the experience. As for the food – absolutely delicious! Everything we’ve tried has been full of flavor and beautifully prepared. It’s honestly some of the best food we’ve had in Porto

One of the best places we ate on our Portugal trip! The atmosphere is welcoming, homey, and friendly. I love the architecture and history behind the building and restaurant. The owner and server are super engaging and very helpful with food suggestions and pairings. We closed the place down after 3 1/2 hrs of sitting at the table and chatting with the owner and another couple sitting near us. Just an all around good feeling with delicious home cooked food and great port! A must visit when in Porto!

This spot is on a side street in the busiest part of central Porto. That said, I sat outside and had a very peaceful experience with little foot traffic. Service, food and wine were excellent and very well priced. If you are in central Porto and are looking for authentic Portugal food, this is a great place.

Service friendly and helpful, but my main course arrived while I was still eating my starter and just put on the table anyway. Enormous portions of evidently good quality tuna but so salty I couldn't finish it. Tomato Rice really watery. Seating may be authentic but it's extremely uncomfortable. All in all disappointed given all the rave reviews.

Located behind Praca da Riberia, Escondidinho do Barredo is a small Portuguese restaurant that specializes in fried cod fritters, octopus, and cuttlefish. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with wooden benches and tables, traditional Portuguese tiled walls, and friendly staff. The food is delicious with prices that can't be beat. A great place to experience the culture of Porto in a casual setting.
Great place to have little snacks and a few beers after a big day of touring around town. Run by two grandmas, other than the normal fare- sardines, cod, octopus … we were able to try out caul, gizzards, intestines. The prices are great. There’s a wrong picture on google maps that’s really classy. It’s a mistake because this place is definitely hole in the wall. An old time treasure in the midst of a super glitzy part of town.

Hits all the buzz-words; authentic, local, anthony bourdain-esque. A must in Porto! However..! The wait time is long so make sure to be there once they open, and be discreet when taking pictures ( to avoid making the lovely grannies angry at you :) ).

COME HERE!! If you want real authentic Portuguese food I was treated so nicely by the elderly ladies who were just cooking for everyone. Come early because when I got sit down I noticed a few minutes later there was a line outside. From what I remember it opened at 8:00pm

Very authentic, run by two local ladies and has only 6 tables. Worth the wait, very tasty and fresh. I recommend the octopus salad (verde) and sardines. As a finish off i got the bifana sandwich. Dont miss this gem!

Quite a fine mood set in the restaurant as I liked the stone wall, but the food was as typical as any other in the area. I went to the restaurant and stood by the door for almost a minute. There was a staff member staying by the archway playing with his phone the whole time, I wasn't sure if he was a staff member here, so I didn't call out to him. Even other clients stared at me and then him several times during my wait. I got bored of seafood after staying in Portugal for a week, and none of the main courses interested me, so i ordered a couple of appetizers for the meal instead. One surprise was that I was able to locate the coin from my country right next to where I picked to sit.

Highly recommended!!! Homemade dishes from the owners and everything was superb!!! 💯 We had trouble looking for the place at first as they open the doors just right before serving but the wait was super worth it! I suggest coming before opening hours, and wait. There are only few table and you might risk to wait for a long time.

So this very old lady was just sitting in the back, next to the tower of cases of drinks, not eating, just watching. I thought it was weird; turns out she was the owner. Well, tells you how long this place has probably been around. Although it was mostly full of tourists, we were all there to eat some authentic Portuguese food. Everything was very good, I’m guessing they were the old lady’s recipes. Simple, fresh, tasty.

Francesinha Café is a popular spot known for its delicious francesinha with a unique sauce that combines spiciness, sourness from tomato, and rich flavors possibly from red wine. The layers of bread, ham, and meat are perfectly executed. The cheese is melted to perfection and the beef is of high quality. The friendly staff provides efficient service in this cozy establishment. While the price may be slightly higher than average, the overall experience makes it worth it.
After many years and even more restaurants, I can confidently say that this is the best francesinha I ever tried. First place undisputed! The most tender beef, the sauce with the right level of spiciness (enough to be noticed but not too much that it overwhelms the remaining flavours), and crispy and homemade fries. What else can one ask? To top it off, the staff was super friendly with us.

I’ve been travelling through Spain and Portugal on my motorcycle for the past 5 weeks and this restaurant has served the best meal so far on my journey. Appetiser of garlic bread was delicious and then the main course of the most delicious Francesinha and golden fries (outstandingly good) and then finished off with a delicious salted caramel cheesecake and excellent coffee. The service was also excellent. Make sure to dine here if you’re in Porto - you won’t regret it👌🏽

The best franceshinha I have ever tasted! The people who work there are very nice, very polite. And the food is delicious. Every time I go to Porto I ask my boyfriend to take me there. It's a small place but it's always full. So don't forget to make a reservation before you go.
Nihan A — Google review
I discovered Francesinha Café through some buzz on social media, intrigued by their unique spin on Porto’s iconic dish. The café offers its own distinct version of the Francesinha, yet stays remarkably faithful to the dish’s essence. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the quality of the meat selection stood out immediately. Not only did the food arrive quickly, but it was also surprisingly light compared to other francesinhas in town, leaving me comfortably satisfied rather than overly full or bloated. Francesinha Café is definitely worth the visit-an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience a fresh yet authentic take on this classic Porto staple.
Francisco S — Google review
Yes, when you visit Porto, you have to have some of the namesake fortified wine. But you'll really be missing out if you don't try a Francesinha. It's a local specialty sandwich, typically with ham, sausage, some kind of beef, melted cheese, and a fried egg, served in a bowl of spicy tomato sauce. If that sounds like a lot, it most certainly is. Of course, a bowl of fries to dip in the sauce is recommended as well. The neighborhood near the Marques metro station is a good one to stay in, with a pleasant downhill walk to the main sights, and a direct subway ride back. Francesinha Cafe cements this as a great place to visit. The physical space was a couple of notches nicer than I expected a sandwich joint to be - it turned out to be a very nice little restaurant with a limited menu. We weren't sure if we should split a sandwich and fries between two people - it turned out that a whole sandwich each, and splitting an order of fries worked out well for us. Porto is a terrific place to visit, and the Francesinha is the icing on the cake.
John K — Google review
This is my new favorite food, this Francesinha is ridiculously good. The sausage steak and ham are perfectly done, the melted cheese is perfectly stretchy and flavorful, they were so kind and welcomed us for our anniversary day lunch with smiles and loving words. They are so fantastic here, it's with the wait, make a reservation, chat with them ahead of time. Get yourself here for their food, and leave smiling for their friendliness and generosity.

Restaurante Casario is situated within the Gran Cruz House, a historic 16th-century building that has been transformed into a hotel. The restaurant seamlessly blends modern elegance with traditional Portuguese influences and offers an extensive selection of local wines and port. Led by chefs Miguel Castro Silva and Jose Guedes, the restaurant presents classic dishes such as cured salmon with figs and pork belly with cabbage and garlic sauce.
We had a fabulous meal at Casario on a rainy evening in early May 2025. Pictured are squid and shrimp lollipops, scallops with creamy saffron rice and caviar, and for dessert, almond tiles with apple and mascarpone cream - all of which were delicious. Our waiter, Ignacio, was so welcoming and helpful with advice about Portuguese wine. When there was a no-show for one of the choice window tables, he happily moved us there to enjoy the view. On a warmer, drier evening, I'm sure the outdoor tables with a view over the Douro are spectacular. I highly recommend Casario for a special meal in Porto!

The food was incredible, and the service was even more impressive! I visited solo for lunch, and while I've heard dinner might offer an even better vibe, the experience was fantastic. The Portuguese rice with fish was a standout dish—absolutely delicious—and the cod was exceptional as well. Highly recommend!

A cute small restaurant close by the river bank. We sat indoors. But with all the windows and doors open, we can see the rive and boats and hear live music. The setting was lovely. We had goat cheese salad, beets with rice, chicken with gnocchi, and pork with cabbage. All were great. I had an aged port to finish the meal.
Jules H — Google review
Let's start off by saying this is a great location with a view of the Douro River. Limited seating inside - maybe 9-10 tables. We ordered three entrees: octopus and watercress on sweet potato mash, sea bass with fennel orange sauce, and roasted veal with mustard sauce and potato gratin. The octopus was perfectly seasoned and tender, not rubbery, and paired well with the sweet potato mash. Sea bass skin was crispy, flesh was moist and flavorful. Roasted veal was juicy and well seasoned. Given we were celebrating a special occasion, we ordered dessert - creme brulee with star anise and orange, almond and figs. Holy sweets, it was so delicious. And our gracious waiter treated us to a generous taste of the Cruz tawny port. We had an awesome dining experience. Go here and treat yourself to fine dining.

Why Portugal is not mentioned in the great food countries of the world, is beyond me. Personally, I think they should be and this place is another example of why it should be. The produce, the dishes, taste and the staff knowledge were exceptional. Another experience not to be missed. This is only further enhanced by a port selection that would make the Port houses envious, as well as stunning views of the river. Do book well in advance to avoid disappointment, it's quite small and cosy.

We booked a table with a river view and this was a magical place to sit . There are a good selection of wines by the glass and we enjoyed two ventozelo white wines from the Douro valley a rabigato and a field blend mcs both were delicious and perfect for the fish dishes we chose . Service was relaxed attentive and conversational and the team spoke perfect English. There is a tasting menu or as we did you can choose three or four dishes to share from the list of mains . Grilled octopus sweet potato mash was tender perfectly spiced and melt in the mouth . Scallops perfectly cooked with the most delicious lemon rice a dish that will live long in the memory. Turbot was firm fleshed sweet and succulent and perfect with its sea weed accompaniment. Deserts are fun nutty classic combination and not to be missed . Highly recommend this place.

Mito is a centrally located restaurant in Porto with a cozy atmosphere and a neighborhood vibe. It offers a fabulous lunch menu at an affordable price, featuring dishes like juicy burgers, fish tacos, and pork belly. The restaurant stands out for its sophisticated vegetarian dishes and modest approach. The menu includes options like beetroot, cured duck, beef fried balls, octopus with vegetable tempura, beef tartare with puff toastadas, and tender steak with amazing fries.
Dinner at Mito was an amazing experience. The staff was super welcoming, professional but friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and nice. The food was great, we shared three starters and one main dish. Special mention to the monkfish with rice and shrimps. Unfortunately there was no room left for desserts so we hope to come back and try them. Also, on top or the food being great, we can confirm cocktails are good too! we had a revisited Margarita and was great. Very much recommended!

Wow. Simply amazing. Each and every dish I tried here (including the dessert) was delicious. Most of the dishes were very light but packed with flavors. The tuna dish was very refreshing and sweet and salty. The bacon doughnut was also really good- so much so that I got 2 of these. Service was a bit slow once the restaurant got busy but still out was not a deal breaker. Very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The service was efficient and accommodating, and knowledgeable in the food they serve. Our server gave very good suggestions. The black pork steak was more than enough to share and the sidings were right size. The beef tartare was delicious, as well as the been croquettes. For dessert , the french toast was wonderful! Worth recommending to visitors of Porto.

An absolute must-visit! I had an incredible experience at Mito in Porto. The food was truly outstanding – every dish was even better than the last, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. One highlight was the carrot in misosuke, which was surprisingly delicious and absolutely worth trying. But what really made the evening special was the service. I’ve honestly never had such friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. Their recommendations for food and wine were spot on, and they even gave us amazing tips for cocktail bars in the city. A truly memorable dining experience – I’ll definitely be coming back!

We had a lovely meal here on our first night in Porto. Got a mix of starters and mains to share between 4. We also started with a cocktail and shared a bottle of wine. Overall food was very good. Beef croquettes were great. Side salad of tomatoes was excellent. Pork chop was pretty good but onion rings that came as a side were raw and doughy. Cauliflower tart was ice cold and didn’t really taste of cauliflower. It was a lovely meal but we all left questioning the value for money here.

Manteigaria is a renowned bakery that originated in Lisbon and has expanded to include a second shop in the capital as well as a location in Porto. The cozy and traditional atmosphere attracts both locals and tourists, who often enjoy their natas while observing the pastry chefs at work. While Pasteis de Belem is considered the original and best place for pasteis de nata, some argue that Manteigaria may now surpass it.
This place certainly deserves its ratings for excellent egg tarts. You will never go wrong with these tarts which have very flaky pastry and a soft custard filling, without being too mushy. The coffee is decent to help wet the throat after the pastry crumbles in your mouth! Highly recommend this pastry shop.

Apego Restaurante is a cozy eatery located in a tranquil street near Trinidade train station, offering a fusion of French and Portuguese cuisine. Chef Aurora Goy puts her own spin on local dishes, such as a unique tarte Tatin and crispy pomme paillasson topped with mackerel and leeks in white-wine sauce. The ambiance is enhanced by global music reverberating off the high stone walls and yellow banquettes.
We visited this restaurant to celebrate my mom’s birthday, and I was looking for a traditional spot with a warm and cozy ambiance. Apego exceeded our expectations with its charming stone walls, intimate setting, and the incredible fact that the chef is a talented woman—it was just perfect. We chose the tasting menu, and it was a delightful surprise for our taste buds. Every dish was carefully curated, both in terms of presentation and flavor. The combinations were unexpected yet harmonious, leaving us amazed. The tasting menu is absolutely worth it, as you get to try a bit of everything. Portions are well-balanced, ensuring you don’t leave hungry. It’s excellent value for money! The highlight of our meal was the veal short rib—it had an extraordinary taste, unlike anything we’ve ever had before. Even as people who don’t typically favor meat, we were blown away. This dish alone is worth the visit! The ambiance was wonderful, the service impeccable, and the staff incredibly kind and fluent in English. The Michelin star is truly well-deserved. If you’re in Porto and want an intimate dining experience with refined, exquisite food, Apego is a must. A lovely touch at the end is the little notebook they give you to write down your thoughts—a beautiful idea! Congratulations to the chef and the entire team! We will definitely be back.

Thank you for a fantastic dining experience! 6/5 stars from me. How did I find this place? It’s small, opened by a woman chef, tucked into a quiet residential street uptown, a neighborhood still awaiting or avoiding gentrification. Apego is Portuguese for attachment. And boy, did I get hooked last night! I had asked my culinary friends at Churchill’s wine bar for restaurant recommendations, so here goes my growing attachment story: The first plate was four 4 amuse gueules from the kitchen: a mushroom empanada, a French-inspired mini onion quiche, a minuscule courgette, and a fresh cucumber-carrot shot on the sweeter side. My favorite? The quiche. Starter # 1 turned out to be a panzanella improvisation - inspiring me to replace smoked bell peppers with really, really oven smoked eggplant puree. Delightful. Starter # 3 is a really tiny plate: mackerel, raspberries, crème fraiche, and a little herbal-leaf looking like a kid’s x-mas tree drawing. It’s called “target” and I’ve never tasted anything like it before. I’ve also never eaten a Christmas tree branch in my life. Plus I never knew I’d be eating - and loving it - Mackerel. Raspberries. And Crème fraiche. Together. My friendly wine waiter, Victor, has a tough time pleasing me though: I made it crystal clear that I didn’t want to go anywhere near a natural wine (a fashion that has hit Porto, as have opulently sized plates “for sharing”… ironically they describe them as tapas, except that you’re full with two. I think that’s tricking you into eating more rather than trying more). He made me try it anyway, and as always, I didn’t get it. I can’t savor the grape, it looks pale, and it tastes as most in various stages of fermentation. This one was on the sour side. I don’t get it, I really don’t. Leave alone the hype. But I digress. I’m loosing count, but next up is a Corvina, and it’s awesome. More than a filet it looks more like a steak, wrapped in a leak leaf roll - think a bigger size sushi - together with a green herb paste, it comes with a white wine sauce and, on a separate side plate, a mixed bean salad is served. Green long ones and very likable cocoa like ones with a lemony vinaigrette - the third vinaigrette I fell in love tonight (after the tomato vinaigrette and the raspberry vinaigrette, to keep track). What followed - I think this is a second main course- is displayed around a red wine reduction in the middle of the plate. So surrounding the red pond, I found a pink piece of pork shoulder, a Cajù (aka cashew nut) creme with blackberries, and a grilled miniature corn. Culinary creativity knows no limits…. And I love the disconstruction and re-construction of everything. On a separate plate was mashed potato role - think cannolo - sprinkled with spring onions. Normally potato mash is a favorite soul food but this time I passed. It had a very strong cheese mixed into it, competing over attention with the other pork companions. Dessert # 1 - the call them desapego / detachment Blackcornhoneycrumbs. Olive oil ice cream, a scoop. Dried fennel greens, edible (the waiter made sure I knew everything on the plate was edible), white and crunchy. Incredible combination of texture and flavor. All of which came under a tent of white merengues. Dessert # 2 Hazelnutmousse, apricot compote under a Belgium butter biscuit, topped by a desconstructed praline. I’m told I have to destroy this little pyramid with an ordinary spoon. I walk down Rua Santa Catarina with a big smile and a lot of flashy tasty memories to write down. Plus I don’t know if they should rename the place - I’d rather think of it as Saudade.

Great experience ! Hake Ravioli are delicious, veal short rib is out of this world, wine glass excellent as the service, location is ok but deserves 5* as very tasty cuisine. Don't miss the bread, it's makes you addict !! Absolutely reccomended.

Located in downtown Porto, THE ROYAL COCKTAIL CLUB is a sophisticated and charming boutique bar known for serving some of the best cocktails in town. The upper floor offers a regular bar experience, but the real excitement happens on the lower floor where seasonal signature cocktails are served. The bar's barmen have been recognized for their expertise, making it a go-to spot for cocktail enthusiasts.
My husband and I are both cocktail enthusiasts and have worked in the industry ourselves a long time. This place is pricy but absolutely worth it for the quality of cocktail and presentation. We were lucky to have the bartender who had created the current cocktail menu behind the bar when we sat, and were able to chat to him a little about his menu. The thought and passion put into it alone was beautiful, it’s a journey through the elements. Water, fire, earth, air. Each cocktail has its own page in a gorgeous menu with poetic descriptions to accompany their photos. We listed a few we were stuck between and he was so knowledgeable in guiding our selections. I wish we could’ve tried the whole menu. I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you can, it was very cool to watch the bartender make all the drinks for the restaurant and when he had the time he would explain to us what he was making when he caught us watching. Great spot, great staff!

We visited this bar based on online recommendations. The interior is cozy and stylish, with plenty of seating space. It’s a great place to come and hang out with friends. The cocktail prices seemed a bit high to me – the cheapest one was €12.50, and for four cocktails we paid €50. The drinks themselves were tasty, but I wouldn’t say they were anything extraordinary; there was no real wow factor apart from the presentation, which was excellent. They looked fantastic. I’m not a bartender, but in some cocktails there seemed to be way too much ice – only about 30% of the glass was actual drink. Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be, but it felt a little unbalanced. On the positive side, the menu is very creative and fun to read. Overall, we enjoyed our visit, so I’d still recommend checking out this charming bar.

Best cocktail bar we found in Porto! The large and diverse menu made it hard to pick which drinks to get, but the ones we tried definitely did not disappoint! Overall incredibly well crafted and well presented cocktails in a stylish yet cozy atmosphere.
Kelly H — Google review
This place ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me. The interior is absolutely beautiful — stylish and inviting — but unfortunately, the drinks didn’t quite live up to the setting. The cocktail menu felt very limited, and the ones I tried weren’t particularly impressive. For the price point, I was definitely expecting more in terms of quality. Another small detail: no water was offered alongside, and the ice cubes in some of the cocktails weren’t the clear, well-prepared kind you’d normally expect at this level. Instead, they looked like regular freezer ice, cloudy in the middle, which took away from the overall presentation. It’s a lovely-looking place, but with such high prices, I’d hoped the cocktails and service details would match the beautiful interior.
Hanna S — Google review
I read some of the negative reviews and I’m not sure what planet those people were living on… The cocktails were very good, I can see why they aren’t in the top 50 yet, but could be. We found them to be rather inexpensive compared to most Top 50 in the world bars. The chantico had crushed BBQ chips on the outside that really brought out the smoke of the mezcal. The Trinity and Candlelight were our favorites but all were very good. We waited for maybe 10 minutes to get in, a little touristy for sure with a lot of English and Americans downstairs. Service was great, especially considering they were packed. Definitely glad we made the trek up! The road they are on is pretty crazy on a Friday or Saturday night. But plenty of places close by to grab a cocktail while waiting for a spot

We came in tonight and were warmly welcomed by Pedro and Santiago. This entire bar is absolutely beautiful 😍. The bf and I both had an espresso martini and let me tell you they were DELICIOUS. We know hospitality is critical to us and the service, bar and cocktails rivaled some of the best we have visited, globally. Keep up the amazing work and we cannot wait to come back.

Head to Mercado Municipal de Matosinhos for an authentic and bustling market experience. Located near Leca River estuary and Portos seaport, this market remains untouched by tourism, offering a genuine glimpse into local culture. The bright, white building resembles an upturned cowrie shell and is flooded with natural light. Local women bring trays of fresh fish straight from the docks across the river, alongside livestock like rabbits, ducks, and chickens.
Excellent place to eat typical food. Also, great variety of fruit and veggies. For fish lovers, it’s the perfect place. Small, simple and culturally interesting to visit.

Lovely market. First time that I have seen live chickens and pigeons for sale. Mainly fish and fruit / veg stalls. You can buy your fish and then take it to a stall that will cook it for you!

Combi Coffee Roasters, situated in Porto, has an intriguing history that began in 2014 when a van brought specialty coffee to various locations such as festivals, markets, and streets. Today, it has transformed into a stationary café and roastery where green beans are roasted for both in-house consumption and retail. The founders, Goncalo and Francisco Cardoso, oversee the entire roasting process by sourcing top-quality coffees from around the globe and roasting them weekly on-site.
I absolutely love this coffee shop! I had breakfast here and everything ordered was amazing. You have to try the croissants. I also loved my açai bowl. The coffee was so good and you can tell that they roast it themselves. I highly recommend if you’re in Porto

I was in Porto for the half marathon and needed a pick me up in the days leading to it. The ambience is great, the team deliver with the hustle and bustle and international friendly. + coffee is great. Very decent and competitive price for a modern style coffee shop! It might also be Porto but they ask if you want a plastic lid or not which is a plus that they’re quite eco conscious.

We went here for brunch and had coffees, smoothies and pastries. All were excellent. The staff were super friendly - they served us a different smoothie to what we asked for but changed it with no fuss and let us have the other one they’d already given us. Atmosphere was really cool and chilled. I think we’ll be coming back!

Possibly the best Machiato I have ever had. It was the perfect roast, the perfect size and brewed to perfection 👌 The Chocolate croissant was extremely flaky and each layer came away separately. The choclate filling was very dense and of the highest quality. Will definitely be going back for coffee and to try their toasts, they looked amazing!

Glad I chose this place today over a different, slightly higher rated shop (maybe tomorrow). I went here because they're also a roaster, so I know the espresso is probably good and more freshly roasted than other places. Unfortunately, for my eaistline, they were also baiting me with chocolate chip cookies next to the ordering point. Couldn't stop myself - I'm weak. Solid products, latte art and really friendly staff. Second visit in two days, last day in Porto, and a bag of Columbian to take home.

Yuko Tavern is a family-run Portuguese taberna in Porto that has gained popularity for serving the best francesinhas in the city. The rustic interior, with stone walls and wood beams, adds to its cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its delicious francesinha, a savory dish with flavorful and slightly spicy sauce served with crispy fries. It's recommended to visit earlier in the week to avoid crowds on weekends.
Great Francesinha, friendly staff with a very nice and original atmosphere. Cost is in line with quality offered and the all experience. Need to find parking place somewhere around. Better book a table.

One of my favorite Francesinha spots in Porto. Very tasty and not too heavy, with perfect French fries on the side. Staff was attentive, friendly, and quick. It’s a bit on the pricey side, tho. There are slightly cheaper places just as good in my opinion, but still worth a visit if you’re in the area. It’s usually packed, so booking a table in advance is a good idea.

Finally tried Yuko and their francesinha — the iconic local dish in Porto. This place is a bit outside the city center, but absolutely worth the visit. The interior has that traditional Portuguese vibe, and the staff are genuinely friendly. Even though it’s not central, there are team members who speak English, which makes the experience even easier. For sides, you can usually pick between French fries or a tomato salad. We ordered both… and of course, a sangria. Delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

The best place I ate in Porto. The staff were incredibly attentive, kind and welcoming, the food was delicious and it was one of the best dining experiences I had. The only thing I need to point out is that the chairs were not that comfortable but, it matched perfectly with the rustic and beautiful environment.

Yuko in Porto serves, hands down, the best Francesinha in the world! The portions are absolutely huge, and every bite is a delight. The sauce is out of this world—rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The French fries were on point, crispy, and a great complement to the dish. The service was just what you’d expect for a dish as complex as the Francesinha, with attention to detail and no rush, allowing us to savor the meal. Overall, an experience that I will definitely repeat. If you’re looking for the ultimate Francesinha experience, Yuko is the place to go!

We had a wonderful dinner in the city center and were so glad we stumbled upon this place. The *bacalhau à Braga* was absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We paired it with *Água das Pedras* and the *vinho da casa*, both of which complemented the meal perfectly. The food was excellent, typical Portuguese cuisine at its best—rich in flavor, comforting, and made with care. What really made the evening special was the staff. They were extremely kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. We didn’t even need a reservation, which was a pleasant surprise in such a central and popular spot. A proper family run traditional taberna, very friendly owner and staff who are only happy to help. Food was very good, served quickly and enjoyed every bit. Great location, first and foremost. Staff were welcoming but waiter then seemed surprised - even a little disappointed - that we both went for the small francesinha rather than the large. However, it was delicious in a tremendous, slightly spicy, sauce. Wife had a large glass of green wine while I just had a delightful 0.4l of very cold beer- the ubiquitous super-bock. You couldn't beat the view or the light bite.

After arriving late from Lisbon to Porto, I found this restaurant and decided to visit after reading reviews on Google. I visited with my child and ordered grilled octopus, seafood rice, grilled shrimp, and sangria. Overall, it was a bit salty for our family's taste, perhaps because it was meant for seafood. However, it wasn't bad when paired with the accompanying garnish. The sangria was 15 euros for 500ml. It felt quite expensive, but I ordered it just to try it. Is this typical Portuguese sangria? (See photo) It was unbelievable... It was expensive, but it was worth experiencing at least once. While taste buds vary, everyone in my family agreed it was salty. Again, it's best enjoyed with garnish. Not recommended for those sensitive to salt. I also tried the seafood rice for the first time, and while it wasn't quite what I'd seen before, it was a decent experience. (If I were to visit again, I wouldn't order it.) Also, we had a table on the first floor and on the terrace. Since there were no seats on the upper level, we gave up on the view and went to the second floor. While we didn't experience any special service, we had a hard time paying. They were demanding a tip. We didn't add any, but... if we had experienced exceptional service and a unique taste, it wouldn't have been a waste. It's important to serve something from the heart, but... It was frustrating when we had to pay. They persistently asked for a tip for two or three minutes, but we never added one. We won't be back again when we visit Porto. I hope my review was helpful.

We wanted to order the barnacles but were told that its not in season. The young gentleman next to us kindly explained to us that right now the weather is dangerous for the percebeiros (professionals whose job are to harvest percebes or barnacles on the rocks). We got to chat a bit about the seafood culture in Portugal. We ordered stuffed edible crab and grilled tiger prawn. So fresh and delicious. Just before we were about to get the check, we were told that the young man actually was one of the bosses and he sent us a sweet desert! Thanks!

McDonald's is a well-known fast-food chain famous for its burgers and fries. One of the most stunning McDonald's locations can be found in Porto, Portugal, housed in a building that was once the Imperial Cafe before being transformed into the popular restaurant in 1995. This particular McDonald's offers gluten-free options, including burger buns and fries, making it a convenient choice for those with celiac disease. The restaurant is known for its quick service and popular food choices among young people.
Food was cooked perfectly and looked like pictures. Service was fast, despite being incredibly busy. Place was clean. Food tastes great-- I mean, it is McDonald's. We were able to find seats for 5 easily at lower level. Place was cool inside even though outside was hot!

The Imperial McDonald’s in Porto is the most beautiful McDonald’s I’ve ever seen in my life! The building, the stained glass, and the overall design blend together perfectly, creating a truly unique atmosphere. I ordered a drink using the kiosk — the staff were polite and handed me my order in less than two minutes. I would definitely recommend stopping by to take a few pictures and maybe grab some food to go. It’s a McDonald’s experience like no other!
Murillo P — Google review
McDonald’s - Imperial might be a contender for the most beautiful McDonald’s in the world. Located centrally within the city of Porto, as you walk into this McDonald’s, you’d be forgiven for forgetting you’re walking into a McDonald’s in the first place, with the eagle structure above the silver McDonald’s sign, entering a large atrium with chandeliers and impressive décor. I visited in the run-up to Christmas 2024 and they had a Christmas tree decorated McDonald’s-style, which made me giggle. I love McDonald’s in Portugal compared to back home in the UK — it just has nicer vibes: fresher, cleaner and more of a place to be. It even worked out a little cheaper too. Gluten-free options are available, but you need to order at the counter and order from a selected menu, which includes the McRoyale. I ordered a GF McRoyale meal with fries and an iced tea. It did take a couple of minutes longer than my friend’s meal to arrive, but I was happy to wait as it meant they were proceeding with caution and taking my allergy seriously. When the food was served, both the burger and fries were hot and up to a good standard. The burger was really good and made me wish we had gluten-free burger buns back home in the UK. Although the bread was a little small for the size of the patty on the McRoyale (the European equivalent of the Quarter Pounder with Cheese), it just made it feel like a real and normal burger. I couldn’t ask for more from a McDonald’s on this occasion — the staff were friendly, the food was good and well-prepared, and it was all placed in beautiful surroundings in a beautiful city.

A very beautiful McDonald’s and definitely worth a stop. I don’t know if it really deserves the title of “the most beautiful McDonald’s in the world”, but it’s certainly impressive and unique. After a long day; an early start and a day full of exploring wonderful Porto we were exhausted and hungry. We found D. Gancho on TripAdvisor and as it was nearby and number one we decided to give it a go. We were warmly greeted and seated. Drinks were served promptly however when we tried to order pizza - the reason for choosing this restaurant in the first place - we were told they had no more pizzas. We were quite disappointed. The waiter explained that as it was a bank holiday weekend the kitchen had made plenty of pizza dough but they had been overwhelmingly busy and had run out of dough. Their dough takes two days to make apparently. We ordered tasty pasta, a salad and the infamous Porto Francesinha - a crazy sandwich with melted cheese, lots of meats, and a red sauce. Now the francesinha is not my kind of thing but in comparison to the one my husband tried when we visited Porto last year, this one my brother-in-law had was mile's better with good quality ingredients. After we had finished eating the waiter came along and moved all our plates away from the centre of the table. We had no idea what he was doing until with a smile and a surprise he delivered a pizza for us to share, and on the house! It was delicious! The meal was tasty and in a lovely venue that was buzzy yet relaxing. And to finish it all off the waiter then gave us all a glass of port. How generous and kind.

They have some weird pizza on the menu but the food (Siciliana pizza + vegetables soup) was good, fast service and the deserts are a must try!

Awesome place outside of Porto. Worth the trip for great service and good food. House wine was cheap and tasty. Victor our waiter was amazing and gracious. He gave us a special dessert and made the experience memorable. Well worth going!

Really good Italian Restaurant but please try their's Francesinha a Porto's traditional dish. Really awsome!

I can't figure out how you can call yourself a pizzeria and have terrible pizza. We were so disappointed since we only went based on the reviews. Mine tasted like a frozen Totinos Pizza with a little oregano on top. Even though it's not in a touristy area this is a tourist trap with bad food. However our server was nice and we were seated right away and the restaurant was clean.

Google walking tour took us in a wild goose chase, but glad we stuck it out. Delicious food that hit the spot. Victor, our waiter, was incredible!! (Be sure to ask for him). He recommended items from the menu that we'd never heard of, and he didn't lead us astray. Most tasty!! Our dessert, the pana cata (I may be misspelling this) was the bomb!! Give it a whirl; you won't be disappointed!!

Very nice place. Mix of italian and portuguese cousine. Not expensive but a little pricey for the restaurant it is. The food is great but limited as the views and space is a bit old styled. Overall is worth going or order to take home.

Food Corner is a diverse dining spot offering a variety of cuisines including Italian, burgers, sushi, and pasta. The burger with chips is highly recommended for its delicious taste and outstanding chips. The English-speaking and friendly staff add to the pleasant dining experience. With multiple levels serving different types of food, it's a great option for those who are undecided about what to eat. Despite being a bit crowded at times, the ambiance is enjoyable with good music and incredible food options.
We ate at the pizza place and the Pasta place, both were great value for money and staff were lovely! A really good, convenient and affordable place to eat in Porto!

Great place. Six or seven choices in food styles. Was quiet in the middle of a Sunday. But can imagine it would get busy. I ordered from Maza who are a pasta place. Food cost €14 and a bottle of wine €12. Really good value and very tasty. Would recommend to others. Thank you

Food took a long time to arrive, sushi had a tomato in it (first time for me). We had also two poka bowls which were a bit disappointing, some dried up tofu of some sort which had not taste or texture were sprinkled on top of one bowl, the other bowl had some salmon in it, but not enough for my taste, it didn’t combine well with the other ingredients. The vegan Sushi had strange ingredients in it, including cream cheese(????).

Employees at the mexican section didn’t seem to care about customers. We arrived 10 minutes before the opening time and waited outside. When they opened, we stood at the counter for another 10 minutes while they chatted and talked on the phone. So we ended up order from the sushi section, which doesn’t accept card payment. Foods are mediocre at best.

We choose mexican food and IT was just good. Can not complain about it. Churritos were really nice. Service... we were there approx. 40 minutes tables as you can see empty but plates still there for over 40minutes. When we were leaving everywhere still there but guys behind the bar had plenty of time for a chit chat.

Tried pasta and mexican and both were very good. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Overall nice ambience and multiple food options to choose from spread across 4-5 floors.

You can order burger, pizza, drinks etc. Convenient for the children. Climatic condition is good. Workers are helpfull. Price is the one of the cheepest place I have eaten before in Porto. After passing the majestic cafe turn to left and go down the way, you will be there.

Good opportunity for people who are not sure what to eat. Few levels with really good food. Strongly recommend burgers from 3th level (if I good remember). On the bottom level are good pasta and lemonade. Long open hours is additional advantage.

The restaurant, Apartamento is a great place to go for a relaxing brunch. There are several menus to choose from, but we recommend the savory pancakes and crepes. The food is always delicious!
We had a fantastic breakfast at Apartamento Café & Snack! The food was delicious, fresh, and well-prepared. The menu offers great options at affordable prices. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing meal. A special mention to the waitress—she was incredibly kind, attentive, and quick. Highly recommended!

Cappuccino was really good and had a cute art. However, the eggs were overcooked. We asked them to be flipped, but the first was overcooked. We went and asked for the other two not to be flipped (they were still making the eggs); however, when they came, they were flipped and just as overcooked as well. The food took a bit of time to come. The server was nice. The cashier wasn’t nice. He charged us for a box for the sandwich without letting us know it’s for a fee. When we asked about it, he just threw the one euro at the counter, giving a bit of attitude. Edit: we were not rude at all. Asking for a special request isn’t a crime. I was nice in this review too. This shows that my review is valid because you took it as a personal attack. We did stick to the menu. We didn’t order something outside of it. We asked if you can put tomato on the cheese panini and you said no so we ordered the capris sandwich. Mind you this order was for a child. What is rude is charging us a whole euro for a box and not telling us and later acting with attitude about it. Highly unprofessional. Your reply speaks for itself. If we were truly rude, then state in specific what did we do as I did for you in my review! Changed my three stars to one

YUM! We both got the pancakes - would recommend ordering two pancakes as the serving size was very generous! Very friendly staff and quick service. Thank you from Australia.

Wonderful place to eat very tasty food. Portions are big and made with soul 🔥 We have ordered breakfast menu with latte and raspberry tea. Big surprise was to find Syrniki here, served in Japanese style 💖 Recommend 10/10

Loved this place! The food was so amazing and the service was great. My waitress was so attentive and sweet. Pricing is reasonable. The cottage cheese pancakes- so good. And the espresso macchiato was smooth. The cafe is mid sized with a nice ambiance. Not loud at all. I wish I was here longer so I could go again! Thank you guys for a wonderful experience!

We had breakfast at this place and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious—fresh, flavorful, and served just right. The service was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Definitely a spot we'd recommend and look forward to visiting again!

This cafe ticks all the boxes for a delicious breakfast. Spacious with outdoor seating, lots to choose from and a great vibe.

We stumbled upon this café by chance while trying to escape the rain. Some of the staff were from Ukraine, which probably explains why «syrniki» are on the menu. We were excited, but the syrniki weren’t very tasty. Usually, Ukrainians, Russians, or Belarusians make them better. The toasts were dry too. The coffee was good, though.

HopTrip Craft Beer Shop is a must-visit for beer enthusiasts staying in Matosinhos or Foz do Douro, just a 30-minute bus ride from Porto's city center. Fantastic selection of craft beer. Highly recommended after some seafood in the area!

Very nice and helpful. Speaks English also helpful. We came around 4:30 and relatively empty. At 6:30 the place was packed. They have several gluten free beers and cider.

Great place with awesome environment. Pet friendly with two gorgeous golden retrievers, best craft beer with labels from different nationalities and tasty food to keep the conversation flowing, sometimes they offer co-labs for even better food. Great for hanging with friends and family, have a conversation and good time. What else do we need?!

Great craft beer bar with tasty food, especially enjoyed the chicken hearts and padrón peppers. Local, friendly vibe with craft beers from Portugal, Spain and wider Europe.

For Americans used to the craft beer scene in the US, most of what Portugal’s craft beer scene has to offer can be hit or miss - mostly miss imo. Not this beer bar/contract brewery. Great lineup of styles that lean hoppy and hazy. One of the best taplists I’ve seen in Portugal. And big dog energy too.

Best place in Matosinhos - food, beer, atmosphere, the dogs… You will not find any other place like this in whole Oporto!
Gabriel S — Google review
We were looking for a place to have a quick drink before we went for dinner and this place happened to be nearby. So we decided to give it a go and was not disappointed with the experience. The bartender gave samples of beer for tasting as I wasn't sure what to go with. The sheer variety of choices made that decision difficult but the samples gave me a good idea what to go with. In conclusion, the beer was good and the American craft beerplace vibe is on point.
