Quite good service initially but food a big let down. Steak (frites) was so tough as to be inedible. Waiter who cleared away plates didn’t enquire how our meals were but was happy to ask if to wanted to add a tip. Another colleague started to set up the breakfast tables beside us not halfway through our meal (20.15 reservation)

My friend and I stayed here - we found the studio room to feel spacious and modern. I particularly loved the dark green colour scheme throughout the hotel. The shower and toilet were separate, and I liked the concept of drawing curtains around the bathroom area after stepping out of the shower for privacy. The hotel is located very conveniently near the historic Mittlere Brücke (bridge) and the Claraplatz tram station, where the No.8 tram can take you to Basel's main train station (e.g. to then get to the airport) and also into Germany, Weil am Rhein! Coop and Migros are also nearby for food shopping. Each floor has a water, tea, and fruit station, which was great. The downside was our room didn't have a mini fridge, so we weren't able to keep any drinks or food that required refrigeration. Additionally, the table in our room also only had one chair (and a lower reclining chair in the corner) so we weren't able to sit at the table together.

We were at the bar. The cocktails were delicious and service friendly but the loaded fries were terrible. Cheep truffle aroma and congealed Parmesan on top of what would have been decent fries.

Went there for a business dinner and apero. It was a lovely setting with very good food and service. It is well located and 1 min walk from the tram. I am not sure about the price but I assume on the high end of a Swiss restaurant

We stopped for dinner in their beautiful courtyard in the evening. We were seated quickly and service was friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. We all had steak frites. It certainly isn't cheap but then I guess it is in Switzerland!

Great vibe, quirky hotel, delicious drinks. Kim was amazing in the bar and very informative about the local produce from the area. Rooms were very clean and tidy and local area was nearby with lots of interesting attractions - entertainment, food, bars and a barber all within 5 minutes

The food was very tasty and the waiter was very friendly and explained to us the brewing process (which happens behind the restaurant). This meant we had really nice beer and were even given a tasting of the beers they brew locally. The only thing I can complain about is the price, but the costs are very transparent even on the menu at the door.

A rather mediocre and underwhelming experience with decent but bland food. The restaurant staff was very friendly, but seemed rather overwhelmed and not in control of the situation, sometimes not even responding to us asking for a refill. They forgot about our table reservation and offered it up to a spontaneous walk-in group, while leaving us with the choice of splitting up or squeezing in tight. The food was decent, but way to overpriced for what it was and felt rather bland (Might be my personal preference though, cause I enjoy good seasoning). Meat wasn’t medium and instead done and on some parts randomly rare, while the herb butter was a frozen chunk. Portions were adequate, but some of the plates we received were dirty. All in all not a bad experience but I will not go again and definitely not recommend it to any of my friends.

Started with the Buffalo mozzarella. Definitely a winner! For meals, we had a pretzel burger and the prime rib. Both were outstanding! Wait staff were all friendly and attentive. Added bonus of a marching band playing down the street and then showing up in front of this place. Away from the "touristy" areas. Highly recommend!

Hidden gem on a side street just off the Rhine. Old Swiss tavern style without being too overdone. Modern bar with plenty of schnapps, good wine, and tasty draft beer. Had several of their beers, including a seasonal stout that was surprisingly really good. Food was phenomenal, especially the seasonal asparagus cream soup. Stellar experience.

Super nice place! We had dinner here and i ordered the vegetarian tartar. Within minutes they asked how it was. I said it was not how i expected it to be. They offered a new dish immediately. Great service, fast and kind. We will come back for sure.

A week in Basel and this was my best dining experience. Friendly staff, lovely outdoor dining, great beer, beautifully plated meals, extremely delicious sauces and homemade spatzle offerings. A must do restaurant!

We went there on Easter night and we were very pleased with the food. The waiter was very nice and polite, taking care of our needs especially with 2 little ones and let us order for the kids first. Good beer, very good Swiss/German food especially if you are a meat lover.

Fantastic late meal at Flavours of Jerusalem was delicious all fresh food and freshly cooked, an amazing blend of flavors. . Best lamb cutlets I've ever had and I'm from the UK! Delicious home made lemon drink to go with it.

We had such a great lunch here! Tried the zucchini pasta with burrata and it was absolutely delicious – fresh, perfectly balanced flavors and really well made. The atmosphere in the Markthalle is relaxed but lively, and service was quick and friendly. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for authentic, simple but elevated Italian food. 🍝✨

First of all its location is great, very close to Basel Station. The tram station is just outside. It's a huge hall under the biggest dome in Europe built in 1929. There are food stalls from almost all over the world. Beside there is a wine cellar and a big bar. On certain days in the morning they also sell fresh fruits and vegetables. Its a free seating. After you order your food, they give you a beeper. Meanwhile you can select your seating place. One can also sit on outdoor patio. After going through all stalls, we had our lunch at Goi's Thai Kitchen. The food and service was very good. However our favorite was Schokolade, a great place for deserts. We had Tiramisu and Chocolate cake, very yummy. Different stalls have different timings for opening and closing. Worth visiting...

Toxic, biased, and completely unprofessional security – avoid this hotel if you care about fairness and safety I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a luxury hotel — all because of the incompetent and biased security staff at Hotel Les Trois Rois. During my visit, I witnessed and experienced blatant gender discrimination. A male guest made a completely unverified comment, and without hesitation, security sided with him — no questions asked, no effort to understand the full context, no interest in hearing both sides. They immediately took action against me, simply because I’m a woman. Their behavior was aggressive, condescending, and rooted in outdated attitudes that have no place in any professional setting, let alone a five-star hotel. The way they handled the situation was not just careless — it was dangerous. Their actions sent a clear message: women are not respected here. The security staff do not behave like trained professionals. They act with prejudice, arrogance, and a disturbing lack of accountability. They treated me with suspicion instead of respect, and it was clear they had already made up their minds before speaking a single word to me. This is not just a service failure — it is a serious reflection of a toxic culture that starts with poor hiring, lack of training, and a complete disregard for guest safety, especially for women. If you're expecting world-class service, safety, and fair treatment, stay far away from this hotel. Until the management overhauls its security practices and addresses the bias in its staff, Hotel Les Trois Rois is not a safe place — it’s a risk.

Worst security experience I’ve ever had – disgraceful treatment of women The security team at Hotel Les Trois Rois is not just unprofessional – they are outright disrespectful and biased. I had a deeply unpleasant encounter where a male guest made a false or minor accusation, and without any effort to verify facts or speak to me directly, security immediately acted against me. They treated me, a female visitor and professional, with no respect or courtesy, showing a shocking lack of basic investigative protocol, empathy, or neutrality. Their first and only instinct was to take the man’s word as truth, without question. This wasn’t a misunderstanding – it was a clear pattern of discrimination. The security staff acted with an aggressive, arrogant, and authoritarian attitude that has no place in any hotel, let alone one with five stars and a reputation for luxury. To be blunt: the security staff here behave like they’re guarding a nightclub, not a historic luxury hotel. They’re poorly trained, deeply biased, and damaging the hotel’s reputation. If you are a woman, a solo traveler, or anyone who expects to be treated with fairness and dignity, do not stay here. The security behavior was offensive, outdated, and dangerous. This hotel clearly prioritizes the comfort of men over the safety and dignity of women. I urge management to take serious action, because the current state of their security team is nothing short of shameful.

We came back 2x for this lunch. Really enjoyed the food selection and flavors. It’s pay per weight so the hungrier you are the more you pay.

Tibits restaurants are our all time favorite all over Switzerland. It was our first night in Basel and we came here walking (thanks to google) for dinner. Though there was outdoor seating but due to cold weather everyone was indoor. We started with white wine and whiskey with Nachos. I don't know why they don't serve scotch whiskey ? The buffet spread of veg and vegan dishes was great. There were many Indian dishes. The concept of paying as per weight is good. The food was delicious. The staff was very helpful. The washroom was upstairs. While coming down, one of the staff found me struggling. He took me behind kitchen and brought me down by service elevator. Thanks a lot. The ambiance was great, totally family oriented. Don't miss it when in Switzerland...

While visiting Basel, I ate here twice in two days. I loved the inventive vegan selection and all the different choices of area to sit in. Some real thought has gone into this place (for example, types of food, no smoking outside, coat hooks, bag hooks, plug points), which is rarely seen. If I lived here nearby, I would eat here VERY OFTEN. Great service, too.

I have paid 20CHF for my salad - it was delicious and fresh - would come here again :) it's a self-service restaurant- you take your plate, serve yourself a food and then pay for the weight ( they don't explain details on how they weigh it, though i didn't ask )

If you’re looking for an authentic Lebanese or Arab restaurant, Za Zaa - Lebanese Soul Food is not the place for you. Despite its name, this is actually a vegetarian restaurant, with only two or three Lebanese-inspired dishes on the menu. The rest of the food has little to do with Lebanese or Middle Eastern cuisine. That being said, if you’re vegetarian or vegan, you might enjoy the variety of plant-based dishes they offer. However, be prepared for high prices, as the food is quite expensive for what you get. The restaurant is also very crowded, which can make it a bit uncomfortable during peak hours. On the positive side, the staff is highly professional and quick, ensuring a smooth dining experience. If you’re specifically searching for Lebanese food, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, but if you’re open to a vegetarian menu and don’t mind the price, you might enjoy it.

We were at Zazaa today for lunch and thought there would be meat, but one of the male staff treated us a little strangely and too nicely, as if we were children or because we were women. That was upsetting for us. We left the restaurant because we wanted to eat meat. The atmosphere and the other staff were nice and it also smelled good. So, this restaurant is definitely good for vegetarians.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on my way back to hotel Rochat, and the smell of food was wavering to the street. The waitresses Sam, Debbi and Laura were very warm and friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and fulfilling and the atmosphere was relaxing with the oriental decor and the little Persian style carpets. We went to eat at Zazaa with a group today. The food was okay, but a little too bland for my taste. However, the restaurant is very attractive and pretty throughout. The waiter who served us, on the other hand, was not so great. He was inattentive, didn't really take care of us and played around on his mobile phone from time to time. He was actually more interested in the female guests sitting with us. Was a bit annoying honestly… At least the other staff were very nice and friendly.

Left Without Ordering- lots of young waitstaff at the hostess station and lots of empty tables. They seated us right next to an office door that opens and closes and one person can only look at the door. We asked to move to one of the many other open two seat tables but were told that they were all reserved? Did not like his attitude. Then we realized the appetizer plate was dirty with a visible streak of something left on it. Left without ordering. I know they know we’re just tourists and that they’ll never see us again but that’s just not good business.

Nice place for dinner, the food was well prepared with a couple of fusion touches and flavours. Unfortunately the place was way too hot (not just my opinion, but the majority of our large group) l, with insufficient ventilation, making for an uncomfortable dinner experience.

We chanced upon Zum Isaak on a late Sunday afternoon walking through Basel. Aside from being beautifully located on the square opposite the minster; we were looked after so nicely by all the staff. We have a 1 year old as well who was catered for and entertained by the team at Zum Isaak too. Our meal was delicious, the wine was exquisite & the poir William & ice cream desert was heavenly. Thank you for making our stay in Basel so lovely.

Läckerli is a traditional spiced biscuit from Basel, made from honey, almonds, candied citrus peel, and a blend of spices like cinnamon and cloves. The dough is baked, cut into rectangles, and typically coated with a sugar glaze. Dense and chewy in texture, Läckerli is especially popular around holidays. The name comes from Swiss German: “läcker” means “tasty” (related to Standard German lecker), and “-li” is a diminutive suffix, so “Läckerli” roughly means “little tasty thing.”

I recommend this restaurant for a mouthwatering (business) lunch in the garden or inside. They offer a daily dish (Tagesmenü) and a variety of menus e.g. fish with potatoes. It is also a great place to drop in on a Sunday afternoon after some activity with the kids for a cup of tea and a piece of homemade cake. The restaurant is located just next to the Basler Münster.

We waited 30min and no one really cares about us. I have to go inside and complain about it. Curiously, it was not the case of the other tables were people spoken german. Service was really awfull. One of the worst in my life. If I could I would have set 0 star. One of the waitresses was really lost, didn't know what to do. Other tables were served and the other waitress came to take our order again. 1 hour to be served, no really excuse, no commercial gesture. Food was OK at least. Just go elsewhere especially if you are strangers

Nice restaurant in front of the cathedral. Had some meatballs, tasty dish but salty salty salty. I guess it was a mistake and that the chef can do better. Service was good. Otherwise, high prices, typically for the country.

If you are in Basel and want a really fun place to eat this is the place. We had Thai and Vietnamese meals there both were fresh and delicious. Service was quick and the atmosphere is local young and relaxed.

The setting is a self service, street food like, but the price as high as the most restaurant. I had much better version of Buncha in a resto with the same amount of money, 23 CHF. The salad that came with empanada was one of the worst, the string beans were so overcooked, the each ingredients were not appetizing at all. I think I will not return here.

Great place with a huge variety of international cuisine. Freshly made and portions are fair in relation to the price. Huge space to have also just drinks with friends and séparée, lounge and bar.

A good market offering a selection of cuisines. African, Indian, Italian, Vietnamese, and a few more. I had pho and spring rolls, which were delicious. Good atmosphere, too. There are plenty of tables to sit at, as well as a bar. Compared to other restaurants in Basel, the prices are reasonable. There is a tram stop right outside and the market is accessible.

Central, easy to find, uncomplicated, casual place. I love the diverse food court, option for events as well as the bistro/bar. I come here to either meet with friends or with ppl who are not from Basel, makes it easier to accommodate different moods on food and/or available budget. This place works so well because there is no table service, you get your own food, pay on the spot and you bring back your own tableware to the designated station after you have finished. This can feel a bit impersonal if you are not used to this kind of settings, but I appreciate that sometimes. You can eat-in as well as take out and some of the food stands offer delivery within the individual opening hours. Seating inside as well as outside. Side note: It's not allowed to consume food or drinks that you did not buy there.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The schnitzel tasted simply delicious. I also tried the apple ring dessert, and it was so good I finished it in seconds. Even the coffee stood out; it was so rich and flavorful, I felt like I’d been transported to Italy for a moment. The atmosphere is another highlight. I really appreciated the old rustic charm, which made for a peaceful and cozy Sunday lunch. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, but I’d recommend reserving a table just in case—larger groups do come here, and it might be harder to find a spot sometimes. The staff were friendly and welcoming. After my meal, I stayed at my table for a while to relax, and the waiters were kind enough not to rush me or make me feel like I had to leave. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to add some sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knödel to the menu. I know it’s not part of the local cuisine, but it would’ve been a great addition and something I’d personally love to eat. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back!

Went there for a family dinner. Dinner was nice. They also have 1 vegan option which was also pretty okay. I don’t understand why they don’t have a vegan cordonbleu made from fake meat but a vegetarian option is always better than non. But for this price I would have expected a bit more. The others had meat options which was apparently really delicious but once again to pay +30 chf WITHOUT a side is a more than expensive. Now to the drinks: we paid more fore 1l of still water than for a glass of wine which is just NOT understandable. I understand that this restaurant is rather pricey also considering the quality of the food. But to charge 10.50.- for still water is just Kriminal at this point. Ambiente was okay, very rustical and traditional kitchen. Experience was okay, wouldn’t go a second time tho. So if you want a very overpriced meal in the best cordonbleu- restaurant in Basel, go for it and tick it off you bucket list.

An excellent little restaurant with some very creative takes on Cordon Bleu! Great service, great food. It is pricey (like most restaurants in Switzerland!) and it's smoking friendly which might be an issue for non-smokers. At the end of the day, I did enjoy my visit.

Wonderful dinner in a lovely setting. We sat outside and enjoyed an enormous piece of vienerschnitzel. What a bonus to know they can accommodate gluten free clients with an authentic dish! Staff were great and very helpful.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Great place. Traditional atmosphere. My husband and I shared a classic Veal cordon blue, au gratin potatoes and a french onion soup. It was perfect. Single portion is plenty for two. My husband said it was the best French onion soup he has ever had (he does order it everywhere we go). Extensive wine list, they also have cocktails and beer on tap. Servers were prompt and so nice!

A charming spot just by the water with lovely and helpful staff. The selection of food is rather limited to basically one of each standard animal you would expect to find in a restaurant and one or two vegetarian options. I rather enjoyed all that was on offer but I could imagine a world where I want some beef that is not of the Stroganoff variety and end up being discontent. Today was certainly not that day so I enjoyed the meal and would certainly come back to try other things from their menu.

We were out 5, trying all appetizers (my favorite was the bone with the marrow), then beef, vegetarian and fish dishes. All were really good. Bottled wine can be as cheap as 54 francs, water filtered but comes at cost. Portions are small but filling. Many Spritz available, not just the usual Gespritzter Wein and Aperol. We were sitting on the terrace, great view. Bit noisy from the street, but not disturbing. Service was excellent, by a lovely young waitress.

It used to be one of my favorite places in town, but sadly not anymore. The menu is now very limited, and everything is hugely overpriced, even by Swiss standards. The food is okay, but nothing special. It tries to come across as fancy and sophisticated, but the quality is often mediocre (though one salad was very good). The only real upside left is the location—right on the riverbank—but it can get quite noisy. At these prices, you can find truly fancy places nearby that offer top-quality food and a much better overall experience. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

I only visited the rooftop terrace, and it was absolutely lovely — great view and atmosphere. What really stood out was the service. Cyrill was the best waiter I’ve ever had! Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A true professional who made us feel welcome from the start. Highly recommend!

We visited back in April and it was the ideal hotel, the service was great and the river facing rooms were large and comfortable. The location was great, sitting right on the river surrounded by restaurants and bars. I’d happily stay here again.

Spending 5 nights in Basel visiting friends. Stopped at Krafft on their recommendation and was not disappointed. I was in a Junior Suite on the opposite side of the street from the main building and it was excellent. Very well sized and everything in the room was of a high quality. The service from everyone I met was exceptional - professional but very friendly and warm. I ate lunch in the restaurant and it was very good with first class service from Marcus (?) and the wine bar is well worth a visit for some high quality wine in a relaxed environment. Will definitely return.

Great looking hotel with everything you need, but way too loud. We had the room with the view on Rheingasse not the River. Even on the second floor it sounds like people are standing in your room. The windows have zero sound isolation and people were partying till 2am in the morning and Construction began at 7am. But even without construction the normal city noise at 6am woke me up already. You can hear every word of people passing. Ontop there is no way to darken the room the curtains do absolutely nothing. In itself a nice Hotel but i can go to nice places for atmosphere during the day, but if I book a Hotel I expect to sleep well and it was impossible to do here. I couldve slept better in my car in the parking lot. Breakfast was impeccable and service on point. Rooms were clean and you could get bathroom utensils like toothbrush/paste etc on the hallway same with coffee and tea. Please install good windows and invest in something to actually darken the room.

We stayed here our last night on a twelve day trip. It was a perfect ending! We floated the Rhine with the locals all day and ate at local restaurants and got Gelato twice! The room was huge and even had a disco room! Highly recommend!

Great place to try good quality Swiss beef. The veal schnitzel was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were so flavourful and roasted to perfection. I'd be eating here every day of it was not so expensive 🫰

The service was very kind and even spoke English but sadly we can’t give it more than 3 stars as the value for money was not justified and food was forgettable. We had two types of sausages (white and standard) and the broccoli in vinaigrette. They could improved it with better pretzel and bread, and with some nice butter. The rosti could be done better too (potatoes more caramelised). We liked that they offered locally brewed beer though. Would go again if right occasion came

Restaurant Löwenzorn is such a popular local restaurant that it's always full !!! During summer they let customers sit outside at their courtyard, a very relaxing dining environment. Ordered one of their specials, Vitello Tonnato, which is cold roast beef served with tuna sauce, you know what, this is one of the perfect chemistry I've ever had in my mouth, with the decorations of capers in the mix of flavors, OMG, you have to order this dish !!! I will definitely look forward to come here again during winter to sit in the indoor dining area of this almost 600 years old historical landmark, a lovely traditional swiss wooden decorated place.

A great option for a traditional Swiss restaurant. Had the veal sausage with onion sauce and rosti and it was very good. Notably there is a spacious outdoor patio in a courtyard - a relaxing place to visit in the summer to be sure.

We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. I loved my steak tartare and the three others in our group enjoyed theirs as well. My husband had a burger and found it delicious.

Was here for the last official dinner of the year for our working group. The restaurant has a traditional and elegant feel to it, with wooden flooring. We had a 3 course dinner consisting of salad, main course and dessert plate. The main course was the veal escalope with pepper sauce, tagliolini and zucchini. The veal was soft, juicy and delicious. The dessert plate plate was good and refreshing. But italians might find the tagliolini a tad overcooked and soft. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Very good for fine dining

Visited the restaurant back in November (menu has changed since then). Warm and quaint interior. The service was delightful, both waitresses were very eager and helpful. The dishes were tasty, although a bit simplistic, and thus I’m ambivalent about the michelin star. However it is a fine restaurant by swiss standards and the value for money is unbeatable.

In the restaurant pretending to be "Michelin" they add white wine to the glass even though it's not empty yet. The kitchen is good but the waiters are not well trained.

Service was really good. They catered for my fructose intolerance right down to the smallest detail and gave me different options without reservation. The food was very tasty especially the tuna tartate. Highly recommend

Great spot in the heart of the renovated Warteck brewery, industrial revolution meets 'urban industrial' the menu is great and has vegan as well as meat options. Prices are Swiss - but the food didn't disappoint - I have the veggie burger which was just delicious. The beer (Warteck of course ) went down well. The whole vibe of the place is uber cool but accessible - with a real mix of people. there was a thunder storm and we were sitting outside - but the sail like covers were deployed to keep everyone dry. Recommended.

Great experience! A little hard to find, it's inside a much larger building, if you see a dance class through a large window, you are in the right place. Then climb up the stairs to the second floor. You feel like you're in an old elementary school, until you get into the dining room, then it's beautiful! Food was great, friendly staff, reasonable prices (for Basel!).

The place looked great for lunch. Ordered Falafel for 24CHF and got 4 little slices with nothing but a little sauce. Could easily pass as little side-snack for your beer. When asked by the cashier how it was, I replied that the volume was not up to par. She ignored that. Nomad used to be the place to recommend to visitors, but it is now showing signs of decline.

The place is buzzing with people every evening, has an amazing bar and serves delicious food! Cocktails are made professionally and served rapidly. If you're a burger fan, you must try the Nomad burger. Absolutely fantastic. Could do with a little bit more sauce for the fries, nevertheless, an excellent choice.

The Sunday Brunch was absolutely wonderful! Lots of delicious dishes to choose from. Drinks incl. tea, coffee, prosecco all inclusive. Ambience cosy, live music, attentive waiters. Can definitely recommend.

Place is beautiful. Maybe I didn’t get the message of the food. The one I ordered is the fish one. It is fish with tomatoes not quite something I would expect (not understanding the German menu and didn’t ask…). Taste wise it is ok, spicy for me. It is definitely not WOW effect for me. But place is good. Nice to sit and drink and chat.

Brunch in Sundays is just super with musicians playing live from time to time. Casual lunch with friends or colleagues during business days is convenient. I recommend their Nomad Burger

Nice spot with an amazing view on the main square of Basel. Macchiato was spot on and the sweat treat was excellent! Well done for the service, the lady was multitasking and friendly. Even her Majesty has tasted this sweets, her letter is shown in the shop!

One of the best known and oldest cafes & confiseries of Basel, set in a beautiful sandstone building overlooking its fairytale town hall. The pastries & chocolates are very high quality. The tearoom upstairs is an elegant old charmer perfect for an afternoon tea.

A must-visit in Basel every time! I first came here almost 30 years ago and it’s still as charming as ever. Lovely café with timeless atmosphere, delicious cakes, and warm service right by the Rathaus!

The tea room upstairs is kind of a hidden gem but a local favorite. If you are in mood for a low key authentic and rich atmosphere this is the place. Has cool pictures of old Town Basel on walls.

Nobody was interested at our arrival. No suggestions, no efforts in speaking English, the Sacher tort was not the original recepee at all and it was impossible to finish. Service could be better, pastries could be better, only the place is an ancient palace absolutely stunning, but It should be renovated with a better quality seats and wall covering. Try another pastry shop/coffee in Basel.

The staff is poorly trained and somewhat understaffed. I came twice last week and left both times after waiting over 10 minutes without being served. Service is excruciatingly slow (even by Swiss standards). A few other customers have recently noted the same issue as well. On previous visits, I had to go to the food stand myself to ask to pay or flag down a waiter, often feeling like I was bothering them. Now, they simply do not bother to come at all. There seems to be no awareness of which table needs what or who is still waiting. P.S. I do not expect a response. I may give it another try in half a year, but if the service remains the same, I will neither return nor recommend this place to any of my many international friends.

Historical coffee dessert place which services lunch as well. The 1870 establishment has a fantastic view of Basler Rathaus, from the outdoor and the second floor. Lunch was pleasant, small tart with asparagus and pilz-schnitte, brioche toast in mixed mushroom sauce.

We had a great/decent dinner I had to adjust my review from 4 to 2. I went with friends for a drink and was super excited to see they had fresh Guinness, but unfortunately, it was the worst Guinness I have ever had! I was so disappointed. 0/5 when it’s come for their Guinness.

Food was good although the portions rather small given the price you pay for a main course. The service tonight was rather slow which kills the experience for a great meal. Positive is the wine selection, both white and red we had were very nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very good; you can start with a nice drink or cocktail at the bar before you go upstairs for the meal which I like about this place. Overall a good experience and a nice place for a good dinner, again, the prices for the main courses are rather at the higher end of the scale, hence only 3 stars - for those prices I expect better/fast and more attentive service.

I would give this bar/cafe no stars if I could. I dared to sit outside and whilst there for nearly 2 hours NO ONE came outside to take my order. I had to go in both times to order something. Shocking! They even came outside to other tables but entirely overlooked me. Then when paying, they couldn’t even put both items on the same bill, but made separate bills so I needed to pay twice separately for two drinks. As I was sitting outside, because it felt nice and fresh, the man who worked there told me at 8:30pm on a Friday night that he needed to clean up the outside area and chairs, essentially saying I should go! I’ve been to many places and by far this is the worst I’ve been treated. Won’t ever go there again.

Food was ok, but took exceptionally long (almost 1h for a sandwich and salad). It seemed like they had to run to the store to get some ingredients too.

Had a great casual lunch here. Overlooks a nice little intersection to watch as people and trams go by. Had a very large salad and sandwich split amongst two people. Service was a bit slower than the average we experienced, but also seemed a bit short staffed. Was overall a really nice meal though!

Very friendly staff, great atmosphere and food was incredible. A little on the pricey side if you are used to prices outside of Switzerland but we found it to be on average with everywhere else. Wurst Salad quite possibly the best salad I have ever had, would definitely recommend!

We had a double birthday celebration at the restaurant and it was a perfect choice. Quality of food is really good, service was impecable and we were lucky that it was a quite warm night so we enjoyed the terrace and the views over the river. Definitely a place to visit

Excellent restaurant with incredible food, amazing service, and a warm/inviting atmosphere tucked alongside Beautiful views of the city lit up at night. Try the pike perch entree and make a reservation (we walked in & snagged the last table by luck). The staff was exceptionally observant as they adapted our meal's pace to better match the slightly faster dining experience we have back in the states. I mention this because it takes a keen eye to recognize & adapt to a customer's dining pace, which Rhywyera's owner & his staff have mastered. Don't miss this gem.

My favourite restaurant in Basel! The redfish with celery mashed potatoes was divine! Fish was delicious and made to perfection and the celery addition to the mash was great, made the texture just perfect. The atmosphere is amazing, our table was overlooking the river and outside! Couldn't really ask for me!

Great location in front of the Rhine river although the terrace is rather small. Been few times. Staff is nice and considerate although this last time we waited 30min for our meal, which I think is a bit too much for lunch. Food is ok without being spectacular, but fresh. Overpriced, 48 quid for a single meal with a coke.

Had a lunch special, was good. If you get the good seats on the terrace, the view is nicer. If not the view is very restricted.

Relaxing atmosphere - light and airy place on the river - food was delicious and the service was exceptional - our waiter was extremely accommodating and knowledgable of the city.

Food is good, just overpriced for the amount of food that you get. Service is very disorganized (if you’ve never been to the place and you make a reservation, there is no one to receive you at the entrance and explain to you what to do or to ask about your reservation) and the place is very loud.

Very nice place for a break in the city, and have a drink. The waitress was super nice and very smiley. Despite the crowd, we were served quickly. And the coffee was good and really nicely presented :) we would go again !

I like the place. Their biggest advantage is their open hours, combined with good coffee quality. I liked the meals I have tried so far. The lemon cake is very good. Attention is good and kind. You have to order yourself at the bars. The noise is usually loud inside, the place is big and cozy.

Absolutely the best café in Basel! Every time I visit the city, my day starts with breakfast at Unteremitte. It’s become my little ritual. The place has such a relaxed vibe, the staff are super friendly, and everything they serve is top quality. I love their coffee and fresh Gipfeli (forgive my pronunciation 😅). It always feels warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to be back.

Visiting Unternehmen Mitte is always a pleasure - they serve some of the best coffee in Basel, and the atmosphere is always very welcoming. I also really appreciate that there‘s no pressure to order anything in order to stay. On this particular visit, I had a homemade iced tea and the raspberry cheesecake - both were delicious, highly recommended! My friend ordered a cold chai and the lemon cheesecake. While the chai was great, the lemon cheesecake was a bit disappointing, the base was overly lemony, and she couldn‘t finish it. That aside, we both really enjoyed our time there!

The place looks nice and the staff are kind, but the problem clearly lies with the management. The delays are excessive, and it’s obvious there are not enough employees. Prices are normal – not cheap – so customers should expect proper service, not long waits and self-service frustration. This trend in Switzerland where you pay full price but do half the work yourself is getting tiring. The owners should hire more staff and rethink the concept before relying on aesthetics to make up for poor organization.

Very spacious restaurant in a great location with good vegetarian/vegan food. The coffee and the brunch were delicious and came with a lot of food. We went on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t busy but I would recommend to book a table if going with a group.

Got the tarte flambee with bacon and onion and the bhudda bowl with tandoori chicken. The bhudda bowl is a variety of items in the salad but not really worth it for the price of 25 CHF. Not enough chicken The tarte flambee on the other hand was thin and delightful. Perfect for sharing. Nice atmosphere and good for a lunch meal before going to the paper mill musuem next door

Popped in during a thunderstorm to get out of the rain and enjoyed a Cappuccino and a slice of carrot cake. Loved the pub like atmosphere and service was great for the amount of people coming in at one time so close to closing.

The location is perfect, right near the Rhine, and the terrace is especially lovely in the summer. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the view. Exceptional Service for a Large Birthday Brunch!I recently celebrated my birthday with over 15 friends at the Papiermühle Café Sunday brunch, and the experience was absolutely outstanding!The service was genuinely supportive, friendly, and incredibly warm from the moment we arrived. They went above and beyond, allowing me to come in early to decorate our table with balloons and seamlessly handling the organization of my own birthday cake.The open buffet brunch was delicious, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and the time together. A major highlight is their attention to dietary needs: two of my friends are gluten-free, and they were thrilled to find excellent lactose-free and gluten-free options available, meaning no one had to miss out.At 33 CHF including one drink, the Sunday brunch is fantastic value. I always enjoy coming here, and I highly recommend Papiermühle Café, especially if you are planning a celebration or need to accommodate a large group!

Creative. Delicious. Great concept with the same sized portion. Kind service. Highlight was the filled ravioli! Definitely a gourmet restaurant but with reasonable prices!

Nice food, but slow. Long wait between courses. Service was very slow - which was surprising for a Michelin guide restaurant. Cutlery wasn’t replaced or changed between courses; after the cocktails we requested right at the start of the meal, we weren’t asked if we wanted anything else to drink throughout the meal; we had to ask for more water after our bottle was empty for 20 mins. A nice restaurant, but being Michelin guide raised our expectations to other similar restaurants and overall we were left disappointed.

Wow. First of all, the atmosphere was amazing - intimate and cozy yet modern. But man, the food was incredible! I think the menu rotates but some of my favorites were the celery/white chocolate/quinoa soup, grilled lettuce with potato ice cream & truffle shavings, truffle tagliatelle w egg, and the venison with spatzle and cherry. Prices are set for 3, 4, or 5 plates per person; my friend and I ordered 4 each (to try the full menu of 8 items total) and we were quite full (but very happy). The service was great, from recommending good wines to asking if we needed a break between courses (which we did). Overall, it was excellent!!

My review is based on the bar, as I didn’t have dinner there. It felt a bit overrated, cocktail was just a regular cocktail not even cold enough…. You pay more for the views of the terrace that in the weekend is too crowded (no music in the background ) just a lot of noise of someone’s else conversations

Combination of beyond boundaries world food, such as kimuchi, katsuo-dashi, greek cheese, chili, coriander, olive and so on… You would be surprised at how they mush up each typical traditional food and ingredients of each country and region. It is very creative but looks and taste is very simple, of course deeply tasty.

A great experience! Fantastic food and really imaginative cocktails. All very nicely presented, and topped off with friendly and efficient service.

Amazing experience, the team and myself just got spoiled. The quality of food and wine is really outstanding, the service impeccable. Was easy to communicate and select the menu with the chef per email, can only imagine how these professionals must be during the day. Will be back again.

Considering the restaurant has many Gualt Millau points, I wasn't too impressed. The preparation looked lovely and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice too, however I didn't think the tastes really came out as I'd hoped they would. I found it too fussy and for me not worth the high price.

The new location is lively, stylish and suits the service and food & beverage offered. Very cool & knowledgeable service team and heartfelt interactions from the chef and kitchen team. No fuss about dress code / come as you are (creates a diverse more interesting crowd than at other ** restaurants) We requested a mix of alcoholic and non alcoholic pairings - absolutely fantastic! Food Highlights: Fish dishes, Veggie dishes and out of this world patisserie / desserts! Wishing Roots continued success at their new location…!

The king of veggies truly deserves his reputation! The cuisine proposed by Pascal Steffen is absolutely mind blowing (especially considering the size of his team). A pure fireworks of tastes and textures, and a solid contender to the title of the best place to dine in Basel. We particularly appreciated the cuisine (give me more of those veggies 🤩🤩🤩) and the nicely relaxed atmosphere. Service was great and relaxed too, creating a cozy atmosphere. Food portions were perfect so that when we left we didn’t feel saturated or saturated towards desserts! Rather it was satiating and the wine pairing was perfect, the stand out wine pairing was Cypriot wine Kουμανδαρια with cheese dish ! I went to roots to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we walked we felt special. The personnel was amazing, very kind and attentive and everyone, chef included, gave me birthday wishes. For the menu we chose the 8 plates menu and I think it was perfect from quantity and quality (2 entree, 2 first, 2 mains and 2 desserts). The food was simply spectacular, few ingredients but so nicely assembled and thought of. Beautiful plates and super tasty and genuine food. We loved that they use regional and seasonal product whenever they can. The restaurant is quite minimal decorated but once it is full (which it was) it was a very cozy ambient. We will definitely return to try out more plates!

Nice Mexican restaurant 10 mins walk from the train station. We had the quesadillas and mixed tacos. Taste and flavour were good though the taco filling portions were a tad small. We found it a bit pricy though, despite being in city center. Good for a quick bite before heading off to catch the train.

Went here on a wednesday evening and it was very pleasant. We were two people and shared a sampler platter. The food was really good and our server was great! The restaurant was packed so i recommend reserving. Despite it being quite loud the atmosphere was still relaxed. Will be coming again!

Great Mexican food. We had tortilla chips with delicious salsa and guacamole; chicken burrito, chicken quesadillas, sweetcorn “ribs” and sweet potato fries. It was all super tasty. The portions were large (we couldn’t eat it all). We had a glass or two of the lovely Italian wine (Vermentino) with the meal, Super friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

Great size meal portions and Outside seating area. Toilets are not accessible and are outside the restaurant area. The pulled pork burrito was tastefull and the nachos with sauce + guacamole were ok.

Went there on a Tuesday evening. The place was quite full but the tables are not close to each other. So you can talk with the others easily. The service was really good. Always available and friendly. It was the first time there and they gave us good recommendations. Tuesday is tacos night. We went for it and ordered various types of tacos. All were very tasty. Good value/quality for the price. Recommended!

Great restaurant, particularly the service. Shamefully eating very little because we had a late lunch and it was me plus a child,but they sorted us out for our late joiner and our supermarket yogurts. We had our shrimp bowl (cooked at just the right level) and pork tacos (proper ground corn tacos). Would absolutely come again.

Their salsa sampler was a bomb! Loved it. All the foods were good. Just some chips - you had to be lucky for stale vs crisp ones. And beef taco was bit tough. But would definitely come back again!

Had a great stay! Staff were lovely, and happy to give tourism suggestions and information. The room was a bit cramped, but the large bathroom and decent balcony made up for it. I assume they also have larger rooms, but ours was good for just the weekend at a fair price.

The hotel room was quite standard. Most of the photos on Booking show rooms that look very bright, but ours felt a bit dark in comparison. It seems that either we were given a darker room, or the photos were slightly enhanced. Since the hotel has many rooms, the one you get might look different from the pictures. A few downside: The room didn’t have air conditioning or disposable slippers, but a fan was provided. My bed creaked a bit. On the positive side, everything was clean — fresh linens and towels were provided. Overall, considering that it’s Switzerland, the price for this hotel is probably quite reasonable.

We stayed for 1 night in mid September and the temperature peaked at 31 C. Pros: The room and toilet was clean and so were the towels and sheets. Great location! Cons: There is no AC here and the small table fan in the room was simply not enough. Way too hot and intollerable. The room is very noisy and doors are slammed. People shouting in the hallway and running. It was only at 1 a.m. / 01:00 that the shouting stopped. I'm 1.81 cm tall and my feet sticks out at the end of the bed. Refrigerator not working. The bathroom has a few things that were broken and some repaired with tape. The covers/duvee is shared/big and we don't like that in the Nordics. Especially not when the room is 30C.

Everything was good. Good accommodation. Enough big room, not too small. Kind staff. Graet location.

We made a mistake while booking and they were so understanding, helped us change the reservation, and saved our visit to Basel. Very comfortable beds, good price, and a few minutes walk to the river. We really enjoyed our fourth floor balcony as well.

To have a cordon bleue with Gruyère on our way to Milan all the way from Amsterdam with a pretty and relaxing view was 👌 we arrived after the kitchen was already closed but they were happy to serve us. Sweet people! I bet it’s good in the summer.

Have you wanted to experience the looks and smell of the water fairing Rhine going ships, while sitting in a unique restaurant, come and see the “rusty anker” ⚓️ rostiger Anker. Daily changing menues, fish and other local dishes, with a fresh beer or a good choice of wine, might be your future secret hiding spot, to escape the normal city life.

Great place for having a meal or just something to drink. Great view on the industrial part of the port. Good food. Very nice staff. Good price to value. Selection of open wines is so so, but some reasonable bottles. Sunday brunch is also good. In summer and especially around weekend evenings a reservation is recommended at least a week ahead.

Very nice, friendly, interesting place. During lunch you can watch the ships pass by, turning around to move into the harbour.... The menu is simple but very tasty! Love this place

Unpretentious but high quality. Great service with a friendly smile. The asparagus and strawberries entree was particularly special and our main dish - the beef roulade- was just perfect. The menu is a little pricy but the quality is very high. You won’t regret it!

We came here by chance and loved everything about this place. The food is of high quality, delicious and all locally sourced. Service was fast and efficient. Atmosphere is great. The icing on the cake: they serve food until late and there are superb vegan and vegetarian options.

Decent place to meet friends or colleagues after work for a beer. The food is quite simple, not too elaborate, but well prepared. We ordered the soup of the day as an appetizer. It was a simple pumpkin puree soup, pleasant but not outstanding in flavor. As a main course we chose the frikadellen and Fish and Chips.The meatballs were well balanced, served with vegetables and sauce. The fish and chips were in a well done crispy batter. The only thing was that they were over salted. The main courses we had to wait for an hour, which is a bit long but not critical. For dessert we got sorbet and coffee, they were ok too In general, nothing outstanding, just a nice place with good food. I'd say this place is quite expensive for the food you're getting, but for Basel it's okay

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Basel. They use regional and seasonal products. Small but amazing menu.

Absolutely fantastic. Atmosphere is friendly and attentive. Servers are helpful, funny, and have great suggestions. The food was delicious. Tasty takes on classics and new adventures, every mouthful was exquisite. Really enjoyed every minute. The real kicker is that all the food is local! But they mean it! So, no black pepper, no black tea, no lemons! They make do with everything else - we had a lemon tart, without lemons! But it tastes exactly like lemons! (Made from unripe grapes!) Definitely go, and be amazed at what they can do! I'll be going back :) PS - for the caffeine lovers, don't worry.. They have exactly one exception to the local rule... Coffee beans!

Overall a great place to get an affordable meal in a land where seemingly nothing g is affordable. They also had the coldest beers I found in the city after staying for a week. The gyro Kabab is gigantic and is easily enough to split between two people. The only reason I have this a 4 star is due to the fact that it was hot inside both times I went.

The portions are generous and the food is delicious. You can enjoy authentic Turkish flavors at very reasonable prices for the quality.

I recently stayed in Basel, Switzerland for three days, and during my visit, this restaurant became my main go to place to recharge before exploring the city. The food was absolutely delicious, the prices were reasonable, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It created a warm and enjoyable atmosphere that made every visit a pleasure. As a person living in Berlin, paying 15 euros for a kebab is almost a sin. However, if you're drunk after a night in Basel and need a boost, Steine will not disappoint.

A bit more expensive than usual Kebap places, but definitively worth it. My dürum has been huge - and delicious.

Very good quality of Donner kebab and big portions to! A foot long durum kebab costs 10 chf which made this place a vfm choice for a quick bite in Basel city. Its okayy! 🥙

We found this place by chance as it was Xmas day, a lot of the restaurants in Basel are closed. And after having our dinner at Restaurant Sahara, we didnt left with any regrets. Food were phenomenally authentic and the lady owner is cheerful and proactive. I can recommend to anyone who would like to have some variety in their lunch/dinner outings.

What a fabulous experience !! A real hiding jewel , typical Moroccan food , we tried the Sahara meza 4 different appetizers with falafel and sambusa and olives , was tasty fresh and delicious , I liked the Moroccan tea the same taste in morocco , the restaurant having outdoor and indoor , the decoration simple and Cosy , the owner so nice person very descent and welcoming , the chef lady so nice and polite she gave us a nice explanation of every plate we ordered, the restaurant not so remarkable from outside so keep eyes once u reach the traffic light , and diffenetely I will go back for more dishes to try

I cannot explain this. Such amazing food. It was remarkable. Delicious. An absolute must. The starter plate I found a bit little. Incredibly delicious non the less. You have to try the couscous. It blew me away. And don’t get me started on this Arabic coffee. Never! have I had such delicious coffee. And the service here super friendly and kind. What a beautiful experience.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Everything was very nice — the place was beautiful and spotless, and the room was fresh and comfortable. The breakfast was incredible, and the staff was always kind and helpful. Clean, beautiful design hotel. Excellent service. Clean modern gym, you can reserve sauna for private use. Breakfast is delicious. Location excellent, and my favorite plus was that every floor has their own beverage station with still or sparkling water from a tap, and espresso maker and tea with fresh fruit 24hrs a day

Stayed in Basel a few times...this is one of the nicest hotels I have used. Very friendly team...modern vibe. Lovely rooms, good breakfast and handy location....tram stop just around the corner. Would recommend and will be heading back for my next trip to Basel.

Great hotel, great design and good service. Room very comfortable with a super king bed, quality linens and ultra quiet. However the bed is very soft and only two pillows are provided. The hotel has a restaurant/bar, co working space, gym and sauna. Love the design and concept. Excellent location.

Perfect place to stay in Basel! Nice hotel, perfect location and super friendly staff. The breakfast buffet offers everything you"ll need to have a solid start into the day and beyond! Last but not least: The parking indoor is very convenient in case you travel by car! You wont use it for your time in Basel since the hotel provides you the Basel card with free public transportation.

We stayed at NOMAD over the weekend. It has been a great experience. The room was very generous, stylish mainly concrete and warm wood. We loved the impressive high ceilings and accordingly doors, the very big shower and the minimalistic design of the furniture. Comfortable bed, natural linen, and ecological attention were also a plus point. So as the caffe, tea and water facilities at the rooms floor. Very nice and cosy library..don't miss it ! Very good and various breakfast. A young ,stylish cosy and welcoming hotel . Will come back for sure

Amazing chocolate that isn't presented in such a pretentious manner like the other confectionery shops in Basel. Their chocolate cakes are rich and dense, the hot chocolates are velvety and beautiful. Their own brand chocolate bars are also delicious and a reasonable price. The olive oil one is something special. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. Loved this place.

Grabbed the chocolate cherry tortes and the rosemary and salted almond one. Absolutely dreamy. Think ganache with a slight crust of having met an oven at some point in its lifetime. At CHF6.50 a slice that's very reasonable for the standard and quality of ingredients. They'd definitely charge more in London. Lovely staff as well.

A fantastic spot to spend an hour on a dreary day Don't be afraid to try the cold chocolate drink as well as the hot- both are great. The chocolate torte (xocolatl-tarte) is also incredible and rich.

L'Atelier is a tremendous place for a drink on the evening, with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. One of the best bars in town. Foodwise, this place also makes excellent poke bowls with tuna, salmon or tofu and many more ingredients to chose from! Absolutely delicious, packed with fresh produce, prepared to order and ready in no time. 100% recommend!

If you like an espresso martini come here and the poke bowl are fantastic if you red a fresh bite. Staff is always friendly and helpful. !

We passed by in a lazy sunday afternoon and dropped here for a coffee. My eyes stared on those little sandwiches and finally we ordered 4 differents and shared. The food quality was unexpectedly good. This is a good place to sit facing the busy street and chat with good friends to enjoy the coffee and sandwishes.

My grandmother has been coming here since she was a child and so have I. The sandwiches have stayed high quality and delicious. Its a perfect place if you would like a quick lunch.

I think it was a classical Swiss food place. Oldies waiter and waitress were working and trying to assist to their visitors with classical Swiss foods and drinks. They were so nice 🙂. You can find all drinks in there. Also they have delicious tapas.

Amazingly delicious open sandwiches! A must go hole-in-the-wall place whenever you're in Basel. It won't break your budget either and you can point to what you like, so easy for non native German speakers too. Take a seat at the window for people watching!...

Great bar with a big selection of cocktails. Cocktails are really well made. Love their thin french fries. Service however is quite slow and when they are busy it takes awhile for drinks. They forgot out food so we had to go and remind them.

First of all, the interior of the bar is absolutely stunning. The staff are not only friendly but also highly professional. The drinks are very good, making for an overall fantastic experience.

With the bar half full it still took 25mins for a Campari and a Bloody Mary. When asked about the delay, there was no sorry, they just started arguing. Very weird. When paying contactless, no receipt was offered and upon asking for the receipt the waitress mumbled that she wasn’t a thief … strangest experience at an old, once well known and visited institution in Basel.

I had a wonderful stay here! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going above and beyond — they even offered to prepare gluten-free bread for me next time after learning about my allergy. The free breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated having a privacy covering and a phone charger right by the bed. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. Highly recommend!

The hostel is so peculiar - nice atmosphere, nice people, nice staff: loved it! It has wide spaces and it is a peaceful and silent place. Also, the staff was so nice with me. If I'll ever come back to Basel, this hostel would be my choice! About the breakfast, there aren't many options, but I reckon it's common in Swiss hostels having a restricted selection of food at breakfast for sustainability reasons and I appreciate it.

Unsafe for Solo Female Travelers! I stayed at this hostel for 14 days while completing coursework in Basel, and I regret choosing it. What should have been a straightforward, secure stay turned into a series of mismanaged situations that left me feeling unsafe and disrespected. I specifically booked a female-only room, yet midway through my stay, I was moved to a room with only men due to a guest’s misbehavior. When I requested to be moved back to a women-only room, I was told my spot had been given away, and my concerns were repeatedly dismissed. The staff was unhelpful and indifferent to my discomfort. One staff member’s attitude was particularly troubling. She giggled when I asked about my reassignment to a male-only room, and her behavior seemed personal—possibly stemming from her own negative experiences in Barcelona (my hometown). It felt like a form of overcompensation for her past. When I escalated the issue to management, I was told they "didn’t know" it was a problem because they "don’t speak English or Spanish"—a clear lie, as they speak both fluently. Instead, I was told they had more important matters to focus on, like organizing events for pharmacists. Take into consideration that they work until 5 PM, and there's nobody at the desk to manage any issues at night. You’re on your own. At times, it felt like I would be safer outside the building. The hostel's facilities were equally subpar. Common areas were often off-limits to guests. One lounge had an awful smell due to poor ventilation, and there was no access to clean drinking water except for the bathroom tap. Privacy was non-existent, and rooms lacked even basic amenities like power outlets near the bed. If you are a solo female traveler, or a guest from Spain or Japan (like myself), I strongly advise you to avoid this hostel. The lack of professionalism and blatant disregard for guest safety make it a risky and deeply unsatisfactory place to stay.

Definitely as unique of an experience as the architectural and design looks of the place itself. Made me feel right at home but with additional assistance from the staff and always accompanied by a smile and kindness. Very clean facilities, awesome free breakfast and city pass whereby public transportation is free and most museum tickets can be bought half-price. Made my stay in Basel all the more enjoyable! Whenever in Basel, i’ll be around here for sure! Keep it ip guys😎

Very kind staff. Amazing breakfast and cool cafe. The only thing that I wasn’t aware of what kind of got me - all rooms face a very busy street. You can’t open the windows and can baraly hear it. But it is a bit a shame. The room was ok, clean but a but sterile. Otherwise I was super happy with my stay, close to Bad Bahnhof trainstation and the river/nature.

This is really good hostel, the cleanliness is top notch, the staff is willing to help extra mile, inhave to check out early morning, they offered me breakfast earlier to keepnin the fridge for next day early morning, near from Basel SBB, you get the free city travel card for Basel in the hotel. There is an Indian restaurant called Anjjapar few mins walking from the hostel, they have fantastic food there, you can walk to the center around 20mins from the hotel, tab water is drinkable in the hostel.

The very best gnocchi Gorgonzola on the planet. I know. Make a reservation and sit upstairs at the window. Drink Unplugged Chardonnay and your taste buds will be happy for awhile. A dining adventure. Laid back, friendly, happy staff. Yes, the kind of place you want to frequent. Too bad I don't live in Basel. Next visit 1st stop on my list.

Friendly, cheerful, authentic. Good food at reasonable prices. My favourite place to meet up and feel at ease in Basel; although I confess I have stopped going anywhere else. As you step inside, it feels like local pubs did 50 years ago - in the best way! EDIT: Just been back. As good as ever. Lovely.

Charming with excellent service and great food. I would suggest the Unplugged Chardonnay. It will be my first stop when I return to Basel. The upstairs room was very quiet while downstairs was a bit raucous. Both are good. Your choice.

Great bar and restaurant for all occasions. Staff service is exceptional, and the food is delectable. Full bar with variety of beer and wine, also serves long drinks, tea, and more. Crowd ranges from young hipster type to older couples, friends, and travelers. Recommend for anyone passing through Basel.

My favorite Bar/Pub. The selfmade Pasta is great and they have all the classic drinks and local beers. It is not too fancy so you can just relax and hang out. Service is friendly and enthusiastic. Interior is comfy and artsy...

Lovely Italian restaurant in the middle of Basel, the gnocchi Gorgonzola was some of the freshest gnocchi I've ever had, and the antipasti were also delicious. Service is quite good, there is an upstairs dining room. French, German and English spoken.

Really nice dishes, maybe a bit expensive, but quality is good. They changed their menu a few months ago and it's not the same anymore, they replaced the good dishes with a lot of vegetarian and vegan alternatives. Now they only have 1 ravioli and 1 pasta dish non vegetarian, sorry but sometimes I need proteins

Day trip to basel. Luggage storage available. Close to basel sbb. Baselcard available online which gives you access to free public transport plus discounts on area attractions. Great value for your money.

Stayed here for 4 nights during artbasel in a capsule, for the price and for just needing a clean bed at night, it was a nice option. Its about 3 mins to the train station and 40 mins walking to the messeplatz (or 10 with the street car, no changes). . wifi was fast and worked well. For the price you can't find anything better in Basel during the fair. The capsules are surprisingly quiet (but I could imagine if you get a loud person in the rooms shared spaces or sleeping above you, it could be really unpleasant). There isn't much air circulation in the capsule when closed as others have stated, so I slept at night with the door open which was fine. The room was quiet and until morning there was no issues with parties or sounds. My major negative is that the door to the room and capsules all make a bunch of beeping sounds when opened, which can be obnoxious when people are coming in and out a bunch in short periods during the morning or night and you want to sleep. It would be great if the sound could be turned off/down. All and all I would stay again. I found the staff fast to address any issues and the common spaces were well kept and clean

Stayed here for 2 nights in a woman dorm room. The staff was super friendly. They definitely want you to have a good time. They help with whatever you want. You can also use the kitchen and just eat your food in the lobby. They are super friendly. Would go back here again, because of the staff mostly. It's located near the trainstation, so that's amazing!

we were in the forest themed room. it’s actually in the cellar of the building. in the room was the fuse box for the whole building and other technical installations behind a sort of wardrobe door. they all made noise. the air in the capsules got really bad after a short while. blinds of the window were broken etc. staff is nice and helpful. but the place is just badly done and worn out. we got moved to another room in the hyve hotel just next door for our second night….whoch wasn’t better unfortunately

I give my opinion for the capsule rooms. More than expected, super comfy, big space and no claustrophobic. All the building, including the bathrooms, toilets and rooms are super super clean. The check in is very easy. Modern place, with a lot of activities, kitchen available, laundry... 100% good. 2 minutes walking from the station, good restaurants around. I can't say nothinn wrong because it's excellent place. I will come back for sure.

Super nice hostel! Awesome location. 5 min walk from main train station. They had a well equipped and spacious kitchen. I had a studio apartment with only 35 per night. Definitely better than usual cheap hotel. The people in the reception was nice and helpful. Clean room, clean toilet. Can not ask more!

Nice sit down area downstairs, food was pricey, but hey it's Switzerland, what do you expect. You can order downstairs but got to go upstairs to collect, however some people obviously had some sort of cheat code or something as they managed to get their food delivered.

We ordered upon entry on the ground floor using the self ordering system. Then we were confused as we thought the kitchen/tills/collection point would be on the same floor, it wasn't, it was upstairs! We headed upstairs and the staff were helpful and friendly. The price of the burger meal we had was close to 20chf, we biugt the food to go. It was actually very good! Whilst waiting we noticed it had a good view of across the road.

My order smelled so bad i couldn’t eat it. but they didn’t do anything about it.

Bought a coke and while I was walking to the stairs it leaked down my shirt. Went back to the counter to ask for a different cup she slapped a straw down on the counter then walked away. Everyone of the employees looked as if they were mad about something and didn’t want to be there. One worker was standing at the bottom of the stairs leaning against the wall staring at nothing. Then to top it all off when I picked up my drink from the table the cup fell on the ground and I was left with the lid and straw in my hand. Worst experience that I have ever had a McDonalds anywhere.

Can't beat McDonalds to keep some hungry children happy - kids love McDonalds - it is a FACT The burgers don't look much but they always taste delicious! Nice place as there was plenty of space to sit down, and also the service was good.

Workers were incredibly rude. The only rude person we encountered on our whole trip. Yelled at us to not take photos of the menu translation, then literally mocked us when we laughed because we thought she was joking. Disgusting behavior.

The Kitchen Focacceria – Great Pizza & Friendly Service in a Casual Setting A colleague and I visited The Kitchen Focacceria in Basel for dinner after work, craving authentic Italian pizza, and we were not disappointed! The pizza was delicious, well-made, and full of flavor, satisfying our craving perfectly. What stood out even more was the friendly and attentive service. Our waitress was knowledgeable and recommended a great beer for me to try. She even took the time to pour it for me and demonstrated how I could request another by ringing the bell on the table, which was a fun and unique touch. That said, this is a simple, casual spot, so if you're looking for a high-end Italian restaurant, this might not be the place for you. But if you want tasty pizza in a relaxed setting with great service, it’s definitely worth a visit!

The food is great, but the servers were too busy talkign to each other to notice us. They were impolite when we asked them to serve us, forgot to provide the menus before asking for our order, forgot our drink order, and then only laid the table halfway through our meal. Take away is recommended.

Delicious food! Fresh and authentic focaccia with plenty of options. Love that you can ‘design’ your own focaccia. It’s a small shop with limited seating but that’s not a problem for a quick lunch. Unfortunately there’s no toilet.

We get a pinsa at least once per month (if not once every week) with my colleagues due to how tasty and well done it is. Pinsa differs from the standard pizza due to having a mix of flours and being more crispy and flat than most pizzas you would normally get at a restaurant. The place allows for choice of several varieties of pinsa, among which are vegetarian and vegan choices, which can be selected most of the times by choosing the ones with a green color on the side. Of course the staff is friendly and will kindly listen / adapt most of the requests within their possibilities. For the price the quality is great, and it’s good to have different variations to try. Would be nice to see a more varied vegan choice as well (there are focaccia too to choose), but overall it’s always a good experience when we choose to eat from here. It is also possible to sit at the restaurant next to it and order the pinsa for eating there, in case you’d like to sit down and relax rather than do take away. Give it a try if you’re in Basel, just be mindful that lunch time is usually very busy!

Really liked the place, its a Focacceria as the name suggests and not a Pizzeria, so do not expect traditional Pizzas here. What you get is option of multiple variants of foccacia breads and a special take on Pizzas. There are multiple options for vegetarians, Strongly recommended.

Dry bread, 1 transparent slice of mortadella, 1 slice of tomato and they call it focaccia for 15 chf. Thank you, never again

very fast service in a take out location and cheap prices. I had pad thai and it was OK but overall cleary below average. they do not prepare your portion as you order they pre-prepare the pad thai which clearly lacks in quality (deepness of flavours, overcooked noodles and vegtables) would rather pay 3-5 CHF more to get a decent pad-thai. Their buffet-system might better work with their curries but did not had one of them yet.

Best Thai food I had in Switzerland, tastes just like in Thailand and the friendly chefs are also Thai. 100% authentic and generous portions.

The best pad thai in the city so far (even better than the one from the Markthalle). If you want to know if it‘s worth it, you can just check and see how busy they are for lunch time. 10 out of 10!

I had a great lunch at Ploy Siam. A big open kitchen fills the space, you can clearly see everything that’s going on in this space, the owner greeted me friendly and told me it’s a pickup or delivery restaurant… yet she offered me to sit on one of the chairs to eat inside the restaurant (very nice gesture), it was freezing cold outside and I was far from home :) The food was delicious, they had five dishes for lunch to choose from! Overall a great place to repeat, can’t wait for it! Thanks

The food came really quickly and was super hot and fresh. The sauces are really intriguing but unfortunately you’re only allowed 1 sauce, and it was really difficult to get a second one. I’m not used to that at McDonald’s. The wings and mustard chicken burger were delicious! Pretty good value for money.

Probably the comfiest and cleanest McDs I have ever been to. The place was spotless. Staff was nice. A Big Mac costs 7.20 CHF in 2025. This is the place to eat if you are visiting from a 3rd world country and wanna avoid financial ruin.

McDonalds across from the entrance Basel SBB to the railway station because the service is disastrous. They spilled cold juice on my 8 year old son's clothes and no one came to apologize or brought another drink. Not to mention the table was also dirty and the waitresses were terribly rude. It's a disaster, you'd better go into the railway station and eat something there or at the nearby fast food restaurants.

Don’t go there - I paid via my credit card and then they told me I wouldn’t have (the ticket wasn’t coming out - maybe empty) but I could show them my transaction on the receipt of the credit card. However, they don’t care and still were defending that it is not there problem but obviously it is -very very annoying

Perfect place to wait for your train and have nice and productive time! The wifi speed is impressive for a restaurant, and allows you to work decently. The place is kept very tidy and the staff is friendly and accomodating! Waiting time spent with comfort and care

Charged twice and still no refund. I trust McDonald's resolve this promptly.

I don't like giving bad reviews, and I try to find something positive. But the experience was horrible. "Whopper BBQ menu." The fries were over-fried, already brown, and very tough. The burger was completely dry and had barely any sauce. There was no bacon or cheese. It only had dry meat, a drop of sauce, a piece of pickle, a slice of tomato and onion. Nothing else. I wanted to complain before I started eating. But I had already waited so long for the food and I was hungry, so I decided to eat that disgusting thing and never come back.

The most disgusting place on the earth. Only 2 people working on 30 orders at the time, with that ofc, i got only 1 burned piece of meat inside double wooper. My order contained nutella sundae and when i got my order employee asked ,,we dont have that is vanilla shake okay?'' Dont even get me started with prices that are high like a God himself is making that burger.

I never give bad reviews but this has to be an exception because of just how bad eating here was. Avoid eating here at all costs. I came in just before lunch time and even though it was still early in the day, i was served with the driest chicken burger i've ever come across. It must've stayed there overnight or something because there was no way any piece of fried chicken would have dried and hardened up that quickly in a few hours. The fries were similarly overfried or simply just left on the heater too long as there was nothing but what felt like eating wooden chips. Even the chilli cheese balls were dried up and hardly edible. Genuinely no idea how the serving staff get away with serving food like this, but i would avoid this place like the plague.

The food was like every other burgerking. But the staff had no respect for us my friends ate there and i sat there on the table beside us was left over garbage (not ours ) as we finished eating we stood up and wanted to leave but then Giuseppe a staff member who was smoking a cigarette on his break said we had no respect beacause we left the garbage there and it was clearly not ours i said it is not ours ten times but he keept saying it was then we wanted to leave and literally threw his cigarette at me

I came to this Burger King last week and it was a wonderful experience. My order was made in 2 minutes, very tasteful. The workers were very king and very smiling

Definitely Switzerland’s No. 1️⃣, which is why we traveled from Zurich more than 3 times in 2024 and 2025! The flavors are unlike anything else in Switzerland and truly reflect authentic Turkish cuisine. We were positively surprised by how delicious it was. I highly recommend the place for its great variety, be sure to try the İskender Kebab, and its friendly staff. This spot is a bit above the typical kebab place (except, of course, Ayverdis 😉), though there’s still room for improvement. Be prepared for the high prices, which is somehow the new standard. I heard this place had ‘the best kebab in Basel,’ so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing special. The bread was hard, the meat was just okay, and the toppings were unimpressive. The only highlight was the service from a guy who speaks Italian, he was truly very kind.

The kebab isn’t bad, but I was expecting much more from a place that brags about being featured in the Gault & Millau guide. The meat appears to be 100% beef, but it’s dry. I was also quite surprised by their practices: you have to specify how many grams of meat you want in your kebab. How stingy is that?

Really unique and delicious doner on warm lightly toasted bread. Very simple but done well. I can see why people say it’s one of the best in Switzerland. I do wish I could have gotten chilli sauce (but I don’t think they allow it on the sandwich since I asked and got chilli flakes.) The cocktail sauce I didn’t get but the yogurt one was very good. The salad reminded me of a burger a bit, and I liked it! I wish I could have gotten the gherkin but they didn’t include it in the sandwich. You might need to ask for that specifically or pay extra? They have so many sizes to choose from and actually weigh the meat so I like how precise that is. We got the smallest (100g) for CHF 13.

Excellent Döner with real and tasty pieces of meat. Fresh bread was delicious. A bit pricey but worth it for the quality!

Not just one of the best döner but also a lot of thought put into every aspect from cutting the meat and homemade bread to the handling and seating of the guests.

by far one of the best kebab in Basel! the meat is excuisite! the staff is always very friendly and if you have special wishes, you can just ask. they look for a solution. so vegetarian or ketogenic alternatives are possible, they make everything possible with a smile and great food!
