I wanted to stay out in the Japanese countryside to relax. I originally had more of a hostel down the street then I got an amazing deal on Rakuten Travel and booked Takeda Castle Town Hotel. This may be the nicest place I have ever stayed in all my travels and exactly what I needed. The room I got was actually about a half block from the main hotel where there were three rooms that were subdivided in a very old townhouse. This was not what I expected and was completely delighted. I had a small yard, very nice bathroom with a fancy wooden bath a bedroom with two large beds and two sitting rooms (or spare sleeping areas). The main bedroom was a kids room previosly, you could still see stickers from the 60's or 70's on the wall which was wonderful to see. The room itself had a small pre-stocked fridge with free drinks. If you needed more you could get them at the lounge adjacent to the restaurant. The lounge as mentioned had free drinks, including many varieties of sake. No snacks though. Wifi was good and I camped out there at night. It was off season so only me. The hotel has an onside onsen, small but comfortable and felt great. The only thing I can say negative about the room is that while renovated with great care, every new doorway was for someone shorter than six foot. I am taller than than and banged my head more than once. The main hotel area is an old sake distillery that also houses the tourist info office. The hotel staff is incredibly nice and caters to the visitor. Included in the offer was one meal a day in their restaurant. They asked what I liked and what I could not eat. Every meal were the best breakfasts I ever had. The tourist info office is small but offers old time candy, local gifts and have some displays about the castle above. TLDR: Super fancy, luxurious and glad I spent a little more to stay here!

The entire set up was built to facilitate a morning hike to 立雲峡 to see Takeda Castle. The breakfast latest slot is 9am (allows you to do early morning hike up the mountain) and the check out time is 12pm (gives you ample time to pack after breakfast or maybe even some shut eyes from waking early). The staff are warm. I would visit again if I come back.

Actually stayed in one of the less expensive rooms, but was more than enough (got to see the "nicer rooms" though... really nice!). Loved the historical feel and could sense the 100 year old history of the once distillery. Quick walk from the station and great country side feel, with immediate access to Takeda Castle trails. EN Dining: GREAT!! Staff amazing, food exquisite... everything was simply delicious, served perfectly! Ate one dinner meal and breakfast =)

This place really isn't cheap for what it offers, let's get that out of the way. There's not much in the area, and there's no private onsen or anything that makes the cost justified. BUT... you are paying for the experience. This hotel used to be an old distillery, so the rooms still maintain a lot of that charm from the past. You're also just a stone's throw away from Takeda Castle ruins and station. If you're planning to hike, it is very convenient. The service and the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. They took their time to explain the surrounding area, the history of the room, etc (all in japanese). Amenities - the full set. WiFi is very fast. Meal was good (but expensive). One last note is that if you are very sensitive to sound, there's little to no soundproofing in the rooms so you may have a hard time falling asleep. But the beds are comfy as hell, if that makes up for it! And heated floors in the winter colder months.
