The Hideout Unawatuna is a hidden gem in Sri Lanka, offering a unique dining experience with its Mexican cuisine. Tucked away on the second floor, this restaurant surprises customers with its delicious food and drinks. The menu features a variety of tacos including pulled beef, BBQ chicken, shredded pork, and fish. Visitors rave about the flavorful dishes such as pulled pork and cauliflower tacos that they couldn't get enough of.
Nice place, a lot of space, especially to lounge. They have a little bit of parking space. They have mostly Mexican themed food, but local ingredients. I had the Mexican beer, wouldn’t recommend it’s mostly a lime soda. The tacos were really great though. Really unique combinations in the taco, well made, good quality, and enough to satisfy, you get 2 tacos. You have to go up to pay.

An absolute gem of a restaurant in this area! The place was comfortable and trendy, chilled atmosphere. The food was on point in taste and the portions very large, definitely for sharing. Cocktails are made to perfection, balanced flavours and the coffee is the best I’ve had in town so far! I highly recommend this place and will be back again and again. Perfect hangout for friends wanting to relax over good food and drinks.
It’s certainly not the cheapest place in town but food is tasty, servings are substantial, drinks are cold and service is friendly. They did well to handle a few demanding customers. It’s very large but a lovely atmosphere.
We had a fantastic and pleasant experience at Hideout Unawatuna. We were delighted to find they had an amazing offer on tacos and drinks, which was excellent value.
The service was a real highlight; the staff were incredibly friendly and made the evening very enjoyable. The venue itself is great, with comfortable seating and the huge plus of ample on site parking.

The service is just 10/10. I had such a problem that the sole of my shoes came off and I decided to walk to the nearest place. I ordered a quesadilla (it was very very tasty!) And lemonade with mint and lime, it was too sour, so I didn’t drink it. But what struck me the most was the service and help in a difficult situation! I asked the staff if they had super glue so that I could tape the sole. All the staff started looking for superglue for me, but unfortunately it wasn’t there and I was offered the waiter to drive the bike to the nearest store and buy super glue there !! I was amazed. In the end, the waiter taped my sole himself and I didn’t even have to do anything, just sit and enjoy delicious quesadilla!
Coming to this place, be sure that you won’t only be fed deliciously, but also helped in a difficult situation!
We loved The Hideout so much we went twice! The burritos, tacos and nachos were all amazing - packed to the brim with meat and flavour. They’ve absolutely nailed the drinks and cocktails, and overall vibe. Great spot for Mexican food in Unawatuna - definitely recommend! 🌮🍹🔥
Cute little Mexican place with good vibes. The service was a little slow but the food was good and wholesome. Very friendly staff and lots of shops around to go buy souvenirs and gifts.

I had a really good time at Koha Lounge.
I ordered the chicken cheeseburger for myself, and honestly, it was the best one I’ve had in a while juicy, cheesy, and just so satisfying. I also got the beef smash burger for a friend, but I tried a bite and wow… it was literally the juiciest beef burger I’ve ever had. They really know how to do burgers right.
After eating, we just stayed there and relaxed for over an hour maybe more. I was practically lying down at one point 😅 but no one said anything or rushed us. The vibe is super calm and laid-back.
For dessert, I had the mango sticky rice. It was really good the rice was cooked in coconut milk, which gave it a nice Sri Lankan touch, and the mango was perfectly ripe and sweet. Everything just tasted so fresh and comforting.
Would definitely go again. Great food, chill place, and no pressure to rush.
The burger exceeded all expectations absolutely delicious! The cold pressed juices were fresh and full of flavor, and the Butterfly cocktail was incredibly good. Every dish and drink we tried was not only tasty but also felt healthy and thoughtfully prepared.
The place itself has a lovely atmosphere, and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming! always smiling! They even have the sweetest dog named Chinese! 😄
We also met the owner a young German lady who was genuinely kind and respectful with her team, great vibes all around!
If you’re in the area this spot is a must visit. You won’t regret it!
This place was the best in the whole town. We came back twice: Nice cool music to hang out, delish food and amazing cocktails. Might be slightly more pricy than others around but is worth it.

What can I say - the food was absolutely delicious. Nothing more to add. If we could give more stars, we definitely would! The burgers were perfectly seasoned, the sauces and fries were really goood. And then the brownie at the end… oh my goodness. That’s something we’ll remember for a long time. It’s been ages since we’ve had such an incredible brownie.
The vibe of the place is super chill and surfy, and the staff are just amazing people.
The Koha surf lounge is an absolute gem right in the heart of Unawatuna. Stayed in Una for 5 nights and ate here 3 of those. Hannah and the team have put together the perfect blend of suffer chic décor with delicious fresh dishes and exceptional cocktails….best I’ve personally ever tasted, and I’ve tasted a few! Big shout out to Coco who keeps the place buzzing along with rest of the team who always have smiles on. An absolute must visit, you will not be disappointed.
Wonderful vibe, great team and excellent service, and the food is sooo delicious woth fair prices. You simply have to come back (also to discover new games that they have in store for you).
Super chill and welcoming place for food and cocktails. The boys who work there really seem to actually enjoy working and mingle with customers, creator this warm and cozy atmosphere. Didn't try the food but I've heard it's very good. Cocktails though are top notch - all their own creations using their own infused pre-mixes! Highly recommended!

Been eating from here for years & absolutely love this place. My favourite is strangely their cheese omelette! I don't know what sorcery is going on here. Its just egg & cheese but my god its the best cheese omelette EVER! And fantastic coffee.
They recently started their dinner service & what excellent food!!! Gawd!
Fine dining quality food that won't break the bank. The roasted pumpkin salad is probably one of the healthiest salads ever.

We ordered the salmon egg Benedict and the Nicosia Egg Benedict, both of which were really tasty, the food wasn’t late, however I asked initially for my eggs to be well done and it wasn’t when it came, so I had to wait for the new one for some time, but at the end they gave me a new plate where everything was fresh and hot. We also had their ice latte and ice flat white which were both nice 👍🏻
This place is a must-visit. Came here for some breakfast and tried their Egg hoppers and French toast. The egg hoppers came with some very yummy vegetable curries on the side. The dulce de leche French toast was quite indulgent. The bread was soft and chewy and the dulce de leche itself wasn't excessively sweet. Perfectly balanced. We ordered some coffees on the side and they were excellent too. Service was quick.
Took some millionaire shortbread to go. The shortbread base was quite coconut-ty which was a pleasant surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed it. ❤️
The best breakfasts. Truly delicious strong coffee, the most delicious breakfasts. You'll find food to suit every taste. If you love sweets, they have amazing desserts; if not, then try the most delicious sandwiches or various eggs Benedict. Until 4:00 PM, you can treat yourself to brunch (burgers, tuna)
This is a great little place that has great coffee and food. The staff are really genuine and friendly providing great service. We stayed in Unuwatuna for 3 days and came back to eat and get our coffee from Skinny Tom's everytime it is that good. Food is fresh and amazing. Has new Tribute Restaurant attached if looking for good quality dinners.
This is a really great place for food or just coffee. It definitely caters to westerners but the bacon in my hoppers was amazing. Really nice treat and want to go back! Coffee was also decent.
This place is the best spot for breakfast or brunch in Unawatuna! The founders really didnt leave any details out, from the outdoor indoor areas, secret hidden garden, even a small area outside where u can wash the sand off your feet. Food, presentation, and atmosphere are exquisite! Had the avocado on sour dough, with sundried tomatoes and poached eggs, I enjoyed every bite of this meal, from the freshly baked sourdough, perfectly cooked eggs, perfect avocados and well seasoned dish. I also had a side of French toast that was to die for. They close at 1600, so don't plan to go there for dinner. Also, dont miss out on the open seating area out back! The staff are friendly, very polite and extremely professional. Would definitely come here every time I visit Unawatuna.
Tried their coffee first at the Galle Literary Festival in January this year. Happy to have gone to the cafe this time. Superb eclair. The brunch ordered by my family was fabulous too. Eggs Benedict’s, Prawn Bowl and Chicken Katsu Bowl.

Great restaurant for early dinner. They put tables out on the beach for greasy atmosphere at the sea side. Food brilliant. Go for seafood. Great fish and prawns with plenty of garlic. Kids loved chocolate ice cream too. Bigger than expected. Visited in August so nice and quiet. They also let us order an amazing pizza from next door for one of our kids.

We spent the afternoon at this restaurant / bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and ocean views. In a great location to people watch and enjoy some food and drinks. Beers come in ice cold glasses too - bonus!! Staff very nice and friendly. We had some calamari and dip - both very nice. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
AMAZING SEAFOOD! I went to Black and White for a dinner with my husband and got a wonderful selection of fresh prawns. Jumbo prawns served with rice and salad were the best I have ever had! Highly recommended place, less touristic, with very friendly staff and nice atmosphere :)

Service was also fantastic, all spoke English and were very attentive.
Seafood platter was LKR 12000 and then we had extras, dessert and drinks. Total for a family of 4 was LKR 25,000. Worth it though.
The only thing I would change is the beach chairs which weren't that comfortable.
Pretty decent place to eat seafood right in front of the ocean. We were a group of 7 and we had a really nice dinner on the 22nd September. Highly recommend the seafood platter. We had lobster, grilled fish and tiger prawns along with calamari. Service was pretty good too. Highly recommend this place.

I came here 3 years back and liked coffee. I was hoping to repeat my experience but the recent visit was not so pleasant.
I saw waitress combing her hair in food preparation area and handling food with unwashed hands after her public grooming act.
Having lost my appetite I finished my coffee quickly and went to next place for a refill. I hope management takes notice of it and train their staff.

There bread used to be good. Now it's always frozen or cold from the fridge. A few times I have purchased bread and since of late I have been getting frozen bread which is probably a day or two old. Not ideal. Freshly baked bread hits different vs frozen.
Good coffee and we had for lunch the croissant sandwich. That was amazing! So fresh and delicious. Staff is friendly too.

With its sleek dark-tinted glass exterior, it may not reveal much at first glance, but step inside and you'll discover a culinary paradise. This laidback surf cafe serves up an array of delectable dishes that celebrate the flavors of the ocean and local ingredients.
Love this place! We spent pretty much every afternoon here for seven days in a row. Super chill vibe, nice lounges. The food is delicious, and the cocktails are great too! Also perfect if the monsoon catches you by surprise – you can play billiards, darts, and table tennis.
There's also a great surfboard rental just around the corner, run by incredibly friendly and welcoming owners!

Told yes so we turn up for Footy, breakfast and a beer.
They are having internet problems and can't get tv to work. Had 4 staff trying everything including setting up another TV outside.
They called in the boss. Probably on his day off!!!!

The Beach Shack is the perfect name for this place. It’s a rustic, unassuming, yet tidy beachfront spot with top-notch coffee, a tiki-style bar, surfboard rentals, a pool table, ping pong, live music, and an all-around great relaxed vibe.
The staff were incredibly friendly — by the end of the week, they were even delivering coffee to our nearby room! A relaxed and welcoming place that was out go-to coffee spot for out time in the area.
If you want to eat vegetarian, go elsewhere. The food is good but the options for a veggie are very limited. The staff are friendly and seem fine making adjustments where possible. A shame really but if you eat meat, there is a lot more on offer.
Great view of the water while you eat. Though generally the place feels more like a hostel chill area. Food was delicious, though portion sizes are quite small! The service was friendly, though forgot to give me back my change. My main issue was with the owner (British) who made my male friend and I very uncomfortable. He spoke very inappropriately such as not having been with someone born in the 2000s and "good job" to my friend. Be warned female travellers

Gluten free pizza! Went here to have a few drinks and watch the sunset by the beach. My girlfriend has a gluten allergy so often had to be carefully what she eats and was craving pizza. To our surprise they had gluten free dough available and made her a lovely pizza. I also had a Thai red curry which was very nice also. A lovely atmosphere right on the beachfront and gluten free options too

One of the best dine-in spots on the beach in Unawatuna. The location was perfect, and the environment and service were impeccable. I had the slow-grilled chicken, and the risotto was so delicious that we ordered it again, even though we were full. The manager and staff were professional to the highest standard. We definitely recommend Sky Breeze—top notch!
A regular spot for us. Great location on the beach with 8 sunbeds and many beanbags and tables to enjoy their good food and drinks. The coffee is a good price and strong! Happy hour every day at 6-7 with 2-for-1 drinks. They also sell merchandise that is very good quality
Beautiful restaurant right at the beach. We stayed in Unawatuna for a couple of days and this was our go-to restaurant to start of with a super tasty meal for lunch, and after that enjoyed the sunbeds in front of their restaurant with some Cappuccino's and other beverages. Would 100% recommend this to everyone. Everyone is super friendly and the vibes are amazing.

However the food was just terrible. The chicken burger is a processed chicken patty that tasted like dog food (my girlfriend didnt eat the patty) but you’re still paying the same prices as other, nicer burgers in the area.
The smoked “chicken” ciabatta sandwich, I’m not sure if it was even chicken. The bread is most likely frozen, chicken serving was tiny I may as well have paid for a vegetarian sandwich.

Our favorite cafe in Unawatuna due to it's convinient location close to the main road and tasty meal. It's about 10 minutes walk from the Unawatuna beach. The cafe is beautifully decorated. One of the rare places where you can grab a cup of the real coffee with a tasty cake. You can find an AC, music and realxing atmosphere inside. It's possible rent a room with a spacious terrace and a view for a reasonable price. All facilities like hot water, modern design and AC are also included.

We popped in there looking for snorkel gear and ended up meeting one of the awesome owners- Deb. She was super helpful about where to snorkel and really great about letting us return the gear the next day as it was close to sundown. We brought it back that evening anyways and had a great time chatting with her and the team. They are super eco-conscious and have done a huge part to encourage other businesses on Unawatuna beach to do the same. I’ve walked the beach for days looking at every menu, the Juice Bar is the only locations that has a selection of authentically crafted juices, and food.
The owners are wonderful.
The location has great energy, 30 min snack will turn to 3 hours lounging, listen to the ocean or ambient background music.
If you want to SUP on the south coast make sure to drop in - several different models available to rent, or you can do the sunset trip. Plus they have delicious and varied fruit juices / smoothies. The owners are taking a lead on environmental responsibility too, from arranging SUP litter collection trips to use of recycled wood in the furniture.
SUPer Juice Bar & Super SUP is a must do in Unawatuna. The menu has so many healthy and really tasty options. They also have many SUP trips to choose from or board rentals. Its a great operation and I would highly recommend them.
Best breakfast on the beach! Their fruity poridge and toasts nourished me through my PADI course. The staff is spectacular - so sweet and caring! Would visit over and over again if I could!

I was very happy to find such a good place to rent a paddleboard! It is the only place in Unawatuna where you can rent SUP boards of different sizes and purpose. Thank you guys for warn attitude, decent equipment and interesting talks. They also organize paddle surf trips to beaches nearby if you want to try paddleboard on ocean waves. Steam Yard Unawatuna is the first brunch spot in the area and has gained a loyal following. The food is delicious, with plenty of vegan options available. The atmosphere is also very enjoyable. They serve a variety of dishes such as vegan smoothie bowls, French toast, chia seed bowls, and fresh juices. The staff is friendly and you can even arrange surf lessons with the licensed instructor who happens to be the owner.
A very nice place 👌🏻 the atmosphere is authentic beach vibes for a relaxed experience. The food is delicious, the service is good. Perhaps some noise from the street in front, prices are not cheap, average - 1800 for an avacado toast, but absolutely worth it 😋

A really good cafe for breakfast. The tropical smoothie bowl was full with loads of ingredientes and the avocado toast was tasty as well. Furthermore they use glass bottles to reduce the amount of plastic. Last but not least they really know how to make a proper espresso.

After a brisk morning walk & swim I popped in at this quaint coffee shop/cafe in the Galle Fort. Damendra , the manager was extremely helpful and welcoming. Excellent service. I had a Cafe Latte and a chocolate croissant. The latte was good, but the croissant wasn’t great. Quite dry and even more dried up chocolate coatings. The best thing about the place was the calming ambience created by the pastel yellow and white interior and most importantly the profusion of plants including flowering pots. As an avid plant lover, it was the best kind of place for me to unwind. WiFi connectivity was also good and enabled me to shoot out a few work mails while having my coffee. Pity about the breakfast choc croissant . Hopefully the owners will make improvements as it certainly wasn’t value for money & of poor quality

We stayed in Galle for three days and landed up here three times because it was so good. Excellent coffee, eggs and toast, curd, granola and honey. They do perfect gelato, too. It’s also a lovely airy place on the first floor and the staff are very efficient and welcoming.
We came here because they offer a vegan ciabatta, and we also ordered the focaccia (aglio olio).
However, both were disappointing. Especially the ciabatta was not good. The bread is not very nice, and it only has some raw courgette and pistachio on it. On the menu it says “fresh courgette”, not “raw courgette”. The truffle oil on top of the courgette is an okay touch.
We were expecting oven baked vegetables.
The focaccia barely had any chili flakes or parsley, so it was very basic and felt like we ordered the Classica. Focaccia bread is decent and fluffy.
Cappuccino with coconut milk was good, they dont charge extra for coconut milk (as restaurants shouldn’t), but they do for oat milk.

We ordered delivery from this place and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Our order included two portions of dumplings and two beef burgers. Everything arrived warm within an hour.
The dumplings were a generous size, served with sour cream, and tasted fantastic — a perfect 50/50 mix of beef and pork. The beef burgers were juicy and flavorful, with perfectly cooked patties. On top of that, we got free delivery and even a complimentary apple charlotte as part of their promotion.
This spot is definitely one of the best places for authentic Russian cuisine in the southwest of Sri Lanka. Highly recommend!
