Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque Hartbeespoort, The Windmill Restaurant is a delightful family-friendly eatery housed within an iconic Dutch windmill. This charming spot is perfect for any meal of the day, offering a menu that features authentic Dutch cuisine alongside beloved South African dishes. Guests can enjoy their meals on the mezzanine floor or out on the terrace, soaking in stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Not often that I do the 5 star thing, but this place has so much to be proud of. The staff are excellent. As we walked in we were greeted by a very young lad. He asked all the right questions and then found us a perfect table. JJ, our waiter was quick with the drinks and made a suggestion that was really tasty. While sitting we were attended to and check on to see if we were satisfied and if we needed anything. The location and atmosphere was perfect. The Gardens are well maintained and quite serene. I will definitely be visiting again.

This restaurant has the best breakfast. Well priced. And we love that they open early on a Saturday. Great family time. Easy access for a disabled person, when and if , they get you up that horrible steep pathway.
Butterfly R — Google review
What a amazing majestic gem in South Africa it was so lovely to visit there. Ade me so proud to be a South African to see this beautiful place. Thank you to our waiter she was so lovely. Will see you again for sure.
Marizaan V — Google review
The place has a farmer's market with good prices, a relaxing atmosphere with pleasant views, we only drank milkshakes, the waiter was rather slow and unprofessional but that is not the end of the world. The cream on the milkshakes tasted a bit sour but the shake itself tasted good. You can certainly make a quick stop here on your way to further locations around the dam.
Ivan S — Google review
Did breakfast here and we enjoyed our food Prices are very reasonable also.
Mlungisi M — Google review
Staff was friendly at first, then took our order, messed up our order twice: brought the wrong milkshake for my daughter even after confirming the order with me. Brought everyone's food together except mine, after waiting several minutes my food came. My husband ordered bacon and cheese on his burger. When the burger came, asked where the bacon is and the waiter ran back and brought the bacon in a ramekin. Food was average, no seasoning and some of the chips weren't fully cooked. Upon asking for the bill, there were items on the bill that we didn't ask for, had to wait several minutes for them to correct it. This restaurant won't be seeing me again.
Cathrine B — Google review
We ordered some waffles and coffee when we visited the windmill restaurant. I thought I would try something fancy and ordered the apple custard waffle. I do feel like there's just way too much going on. I think just a normal waffle with ice cream would've been perfect. Otherwise, great place to relax, have something to eat and enjoy the view.
Po-Kai C — Google review
Excellent food and great service. The food was so quick but tasty. And the waffle was to die for. I will be coming back for the waffles again! 10/10. Bonus points for having a lovely shop next door.

Nestled along the picturesque waterfront of Hartbeespoort, Kassaboera Lodge offers an upscale retreat that beautifully blends rustic charm with modern amenities. This enchanting lodge features a stunning lagoon-style pool and a cozy bar, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Guests can indulge in complimentary breakfast while enjoying the serene views from the terrace or garden.
10/10 Great experience I had with my Love at Kassaboera Lodge - 24th -26th April 2025. Service 10/10, great view, 100% cleanliness breakfast is so good. The owner, Mr Lintin and the Chef were so friendly and welcoming. I would definetly recommend them to my friends and family to book the honeymoon room. Massage packages are available as well offered by Ms Lesley. Full body massage with hot stones package was a good choice for us, with very good Therapists 😊 The place is convenient and closer to the Ariel cableway activities and the Mall. Fun,quiet, romantic weekend we had.
Malebo M — Google review
Second time staying at Kassaboera Lodge in Harties. Both our visits were awesome and we were pleasantly welcomed. It remains one of my best breakfasts to date. I would highly recommend if you need to stay over in Harties!!
Ruben O — Google review
Absolutely fantastic stay at Kassaboera Lodge! From the moment we arrived, the service was truly exceptional – attentive, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile. Our room was nothing short of spectacular, beautifully decorated, spacious, and with incredible attention to detail. The gardens and surrounding areas, especially the pool area, were simply amazing. It felt like a tranquil oasis, perfect for relaxing and soaking up the beautiful Hartbeespoortdam scenery. And let's not forget the breakfast – it was, without a doubt, the best I've had in a long time! A delicious spread with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Kassaboera Lodge is a true gem. If you're looking for an amazing place to stay when visiting Hartbeespoortdam, look no further. I highly recommend it and can't wait to return!
Gerhard L — Google review
My review was going to be a lesser one after we had a dreadful experience with other guests making noise until 1am on our first evening. However, management quickly remedied the situation and the following evening was bliss. I cannot emphasize enough how much attention to detail this establishment utilize. Every inch of the property and experience has the most amazing thought and planning. Right down to the size of the parking's for larger vehicles and the labels on the bottles of soap. Their towels even have gold embroidery. And do yourself a favour, have the breakfast. It was sublime! All in all we were super impressed and will definitely be back.
Nicole G — Google review
Good afternoon I just wanted to take a moment and send a message of appreciation. We booked on Sat 6 Sep out 7 Sep. The service from bookings, checking in, staying, breakfast was absolutely amazing we have enjoyed every moment and will not mind coming back and sharing my wonderful experience with friends, family including colleagues. Your establishment can’t be a 4 star but more than 5 in there is such. There is a wonderful man by the name of Lincoln. He made our stay easy and memorable. He is gold take care of him.
Mmatshepo M — Google review
Check in staff (I think his name was Lincoln), was lovely and very hospitable. Brilliant and convenient location, clean rooms. Great view of the dam. Although be warned, walls are thin, we heard our neighbors getting down and dirty in the early hours of the morning.
Joy B — Google review
I really enjoyed our stay. The place is beautiful, well kept, close to amenities, lovely and spacious rooms, lovely staff and beautiful view. The staff is super nice, and they make sure you feel welcomed. I’ll definitely be staying with them again when I’m in the area.
Mesuli C — Google review
They are just difficult to negotiate, we booked during the day, paid and had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances and they refused to refund. I feel they are more hungry for money than on customer satisfaction. They need to improve on that to meet customer needs.

Nice neat and clean room awaited us. Like the rooms is all u need away from home. Beds are so comfy. Thanks guys it was a nice stay
Yolandi B — Google review
Great place, and it's very close to the activities. For my 4 star rating its because in the 3days we were there, we asked for housekeeping, and they didn't change the bedding. They just made up the bed.
Nomthandazo M — Google review
From the time we checked in till the time we left the place and the staff was lovely. We wanted tranquility away from all the city bustle and hustle and that's exactly what we got. Big thank you to Rebecca who checked us in and welcomed us and Memory who ensured our stay continues to be lovely. The pool was amazing, a great place to relax under the shade and enjoy the quiet time and take lots of pictures. The garden is green and fresh and well maintained; In a nutshell the place is exactly as it's advertised on the website(Their pictures don't lie) and we would definitely visit again and stay longer.
Keabetswe M — Google review
Had a very great stay. We had room 10, the stone house away from the main house. Quiet and peaceful and the interior was well done. One or two small snags but that didn't detract from a great stay. Breakfast in the lapa good. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and welcoming.

Lovely spot and views. Friendly staff, worth it. Take the penthouse suite when available, you won't regret it. Although they only mention platters on their website, they do set dinners Friday and Saturday evenings. The food is good. The breakfast is a basic English but well prepared.

A beautifully located guesthouse that's cozy and tranquil. All surrounding amenities are a stone's throw away from the guesthouse. The room we booked for three was quite spacious for three ladies and all our luggage 🧳. They are need and well kept. The bathroom was also cleaned well. Even though our room was facing the road, there was no noise pollution from the road. The location is the best, just down the road from the Bridge and close to eateries. Trymore took our luggage up the stairs and made sure to check in to see if we need anything. He is an excellent host!

Migdâsh!!!!!!! I cannot rave enough about this place I actually almost moved in and stayed forever. The room had a breathtaking views overlooking the pool and the Harties river. I loved waking up to beautiful scenery and watching the sunrise. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better we had 2 course breakfast with the freshest fruit it seemed like it was picked directly from the trees and served to us on the table. I’m definitely coming back here. If you are looking for a quaint place to relax and recharge I suggest Migdâsh. Thank you Tasha and the team for everything.

I stayed at Migdâsh Guest House over the weekend and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and made to feel right at home. The room was spotless, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. I really appreciated the quiet and peaceful atmosphere—it was exactly what I needed to relax and recharge. A standout feature was the breakfast, it was not only delicious but also generous and beautifully presented. You can tell a lot of thought goes into making guests feel cared for. Thank you so much.

I didn't stay at this family owned guest house but I asked Edith if I could explore this unique riverside accommodation. They have self-catering units and normal rooms. A beautiful dining room. One can relax around the pool. There's a quiet atmosphere. They have a honeymoon suite. So this is an ideal venue for a small wedding and the guests can stay over. The wonderful thing is that the guests have access to all the facilities of the Magalies Park Resort.

Our weekend getaway at Migdâsh Guesthouse was absolutely delightful. From the moment we arrived, Tasha's warm welcome made us feel truly special. The guesthouse itself is impeccably clean, providing a serene and peaceful environment that allowed us to unwind completely. Its convenient location near various activities added to the overall experience, making it the perfect retreat. However, what truly set Migdâsh apart was the exceptional breakfast prepared by the talented team of three ladies. Coolest place, I love the decor! The staff was friendly and helpful. There was wine and chocolates set out for us, and muffins and scones for the next day. The room was clean and neat. Only thing is, there’s a lot of spiders and spiderwebs. But would definitely go again! The swimming pool was the best part!
Clarise K — Google review
The place is amazing and the room we had, which was the charcoal room was prepared perfectly. The art around the house is amazing and also enjoyed swimming because there wasn't that many people. The guy who welcomed us was friendly and even when we arrived late for check in it wasn't a problem. It's definitely a must stay, considering that the price is fair. Definitely recommend it, I love every moment I spent in that house. Elsa was friendly both on the phone and In person.

The most incredible rooms, with the best hosts. The rooms are spacious, with a sense of occasion in ever single room. Being in the room isn't just a stop off to sleep between your holiday, rather every return to the room is an event and occasion worth savoring. Massive bathtub and wonderful atmosphere in Cadmium Scarlet room. Pool looks amazing, with one of the best kept gardens I have ever seen. Everything has its place in the construction of art that is the guest house. Highly recommended, hope to visit again and again to experience other rooms!

This is a lovely place. It is clean and neat. We stayed in the family room (sleeps four) which is spacious & bright. It has a big balcony with outdoor lounge furniture - seating for four - & a view of the dam. The shower room is very small, but good enough. We had a very enjoyable stay.

The rooms were very neat and clean . Joanne made us feel welcome. The location is to die for,the views are incredible .I don't know what was wrong with the pool but it was not that inviting, maybe it's because it was surrounded by trees. The lodge boasts well-maintained gardens and a crystal-clear pool, creating a serene atmosphere for guests to enjoy. Additionally, the location is ideal for visiting the nearby Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary.
Difficult to find fault at Tuskers. Noah is a gracious host and was available but not over bearing. We so enjoyed having him look after us. He welcomed us in the car park, showed us our room, offered to carry bags and bought extra milk and bottles of water for the room. The breakfast he arranged the next morning was perfectly cooked and exactly as ordered. If we are in the area again we will have no hesitation supporting Noah and Tuskers.

Beautiful, spotlessly clean lodge in the heart of the thick bush adjacent to the Elephant Sanctuary. Our host,Noah , was an absolutely phenomenal host. He went over and above the call of duty to ensure our comfort and cooked us the mist phenomenal breakfast. I highly recommend this lodge for an overnight stay .

We stayed in the Honeymoon sweet. Lovely room with lots of space. The bed and linen was amazing. I slept like a baby. The pool was crystal clear. The gardens are well kept. The breakfast was straight forward and delicious. The location is great if you would like to visit the Elephant and monkey sanctuary. Last but not least.... Noah the caretaker. I dont think anyone who has ever visited this Lodge will forget this guy. He is a gem. 🩶 One of a kind. 🩶

Had an awesome weekend at this beautiful gem. Went for the Elephant Experience. The staff here are great. Big ups to Mr. Noah, such an amazing man. He is very friendly, attentive, patient and an amazing addition to the Lodge. Will definitely recommend this to friends and family... And will be coming back.

It's a nice place to book out or stop over for an evening... I don't think I would stay here for a weekend as a get-away. But the rooms are tidy and well maintained. The reception and service from Noah were great. He is a very good man and wants to take care of you during your visit. The breakfast was good. Home-made classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast, tomato, and sausage. Other options include cereals, fruits, and yogurts. Very peaceful

Had an amazing weekend stay, Noah was an amazing host l, made sure we were settled in our rooms and was always available to assist with anything we needed. Rooms exceptionally clean and met the standard expected. Not forgetting to mention how amazing the breakfast also tasted. Can’t wait to visit this place again. Keep up the great work

With family-friendly rooms and facilities catering to those with disabilities, it ensures everyone feels welcome. Enjoyed our time at Mr C and will definitely recommend it to others. Our room was clean and neat, the bed was comfy, the staff were very friendly and the communication by Mr Gyno was exceptional. A big shout out to the spa ladies too (Linda and colleague) who made us feel so relaxed. We just have one suggestion to make the place even more exceptional: Perhaps you could add a few more food items on your menu so that there is a wider variety to choose from.

Great potential but not worth the money ! I had booked a staycation in celebration of my boyfriend’s birthday for a short breather out of Johannesburg. I had booked through booking.com at 3900 ZAR per night, and was happy to book at this price because the rating said that Mister C was a 4-star rated establishment. Gyno, who manages the property, was kind enough to let me know that booking.com inflates the price for commissions and I should book through the establishment’s website directly. However, it would require that I cancel on booking.com to which the funds would only be returned to me after 3 working days but during that time I would have to cough up another 2900 to still secure the booking. Meaning I would be set back 7000 ZAR until my first monies were returned. Upon arrival the room we booked was dusty and you could tell a deep clean hadn’t been done in a while. Don’t bother acknowledging the “dinner menu” which they had put on their website, because days before our arrival I had requested a cake and candle to be brought to the table after our dinner and enquired about the cost beforehand - perfect opportunity to be told no dinner options will be offered, however, this information was not made known to me. When we arrived we asked what time dinner starts so we could go down to the dining area, only to be told then that they “don’t do dinner”. I stood there dumbfounded! From what was supposed to be a romantic evening, we ended up having to drive around at night and found a roadhouse where we had a very casual meal (not what I had expected). Breakfast was included, but was below average, would suggest finding a breakfast place in the area as well. Also coffee machine does not even make a cappuccino. The views are great and the property seems to have great potential to actually come in at 4 stars, but as I sit here I feel I wasted money. If you want to go, book directly through the website and make reservations to eat around the area as no real food is served at the accommodation! Gyno was a delight but I do think he could plead with ownership to do more about the guest experience. People will pay for QUALITY!
Storm B — Google review
I had my function at Mr C. The facilities and view is a 5/5. The staff however (with the exception of Gyno) gets a 0/5. One lady made herself comfortable on the venue furniture and played around on her phone, while the other watched my helper like a hawk, and policed her on what she’s allowed to do and what not. When my mom asked for help with carrying one of the crockery crates upstairs, the staff member answered her “no, I am here to only serve coffee”, and proceeded to watch a 64 year old lady carry a heavy item to the upstairs. The venue is not suited to double as guesthouse and function venue if the entire guesthouse is not allocated to the event, as set-up is made very difficult with the interference of existing guests. I would suggest functions be held only if there is no external guest-bookings on the day prior to and day of the planned function.

Beautiful place with amazing views. If you're a water lover, then you'll wake up to dam views. Unfortunately we forfeited our second day stay 😪(due to a family emergency- grandmother being ill)- there was nothing my mom and I could do about the emergency and Unfortunately the establishment couldn't guarantee a refund or alternative date 😢this was unsettling as I was there to celebrate my birthday. The breakfast was underwhelming, but you can certainly look past it as the views and the place are just to gorgeous.

During the first week of Jan, I went there for a getaway. What a wonderful break away from the city. It is a very calming environment. Positives: The deco is beautiful and the rooms are clean and neat. Only thing to note is the walls are thin, so you can hear your neighbours if you have them. The staff on the premises are very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was good. The pools are fantastic with a lovely deck area. The views are just stunning. Location is ideal and central to main attractions. Negatives: We only saw the manager once over our 3 night stay. We hadn't received any information prior to our arrival. When we did see her she bearly greeted us and did not find out about our stay. Defeats the purpose of having a manager. Although I like the dog, my mom did not and Coco is very friendly and loves attention. Which means he/she'll jump on you while laying on the deck. Maybe ask guests if they are comfortable with that. I love the arcade, but many of the games need to be maintained or services. The joystick and buttons were sticky and didn't work well. The pinbowling machine was out of order. It's a great attraction, so this is a pity. Small thing, just making sure clean towels are put out for when guests use the pool. They had clean towels available, just forgot to put them out. I'll definitely visit again. Hopefully some of the matters will be addressed.

The most relaxing breakaway. The Staff made our stay fantastic. They are friendly and extremely helpfull. We immediately fell in love with Coco and if the owners read this - I'll be happy to take him at any time 😉 The food was 5 star quality. The rooms spacious and clean. Overall we enjoyed our stay with the hot water swimming pool. The fire place and lovely atmosphere
Magda R — Google review
Very awesome getaway. You'd be happy spending the entire weekend locked away here. Pinball machines really do make it, once you get into them you'll easily play through the night. I enjoyed that the two pools are on different levels. So if there are other guests, you still have a fair amount of privacy around the pool. Ideally it would be a really fun weekend for two couples, memories of a lifetime.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. The rooms and common areas were spotless and well-maintained, which made for a very comfortable experience. The food was delicious, with a great variety to choose from. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, cozy place with excellent service!
Zama M — Google review
Will not recommend this place. It was a horrible stay. On entry, the staff are not welcoming or friendly at all. The hotel itself is not even a hotel. Its so shabby and untidy. The bathrooms are small, the shower sprays water everywhere, the toilet either doesn't flush or doesn't stop flushing and the basin wasn't draining. The bed was broken and so uncomfortable to sleep on.Everything in the room is old and broken. On our first night we had guests on either side of us, there were 12 of them sharing 2 rooms??? They had loud music playing until after 10pm. Whilst we were understanding to the music the whole day, we also wanted to rest. I called reception atleast 5 times before someone came to tell them to lower the music. It didn't end there, they were walking past our room door until after midnight and slamming the doors. To make it worse the rooms are so close to each other you can hear everything happening next to you. The next morning, the outside area of that unit was an absolute disaster, there was trash everywhere and when I reported it to management the lady knew exactly who I was talking about and never did anything about it. What disturbed me is the fact that there are animals on the property and no one came to clean up the litter that could've harmed that. The barman is never at the bar and the alcohol is so diluted. The cocktails are mixed with cheap juice, the one that you dilute with water but they're charging normal prices for it. The food was disgusting, it was dry and bland, we left without having breakfast on our second day. What frustrates me is that there are reviews from months ago complaining about the same things, management acknowledges the reviews but clearly nothing at the venue changes, and I saw for myself that management has no interest when you raise anything with them. They are charging hotel rates for a place that's worse than a lodge. I will be sharing this on social media to show people the pictures of what the place actually looks like and not what they post and use to trick people. I will give credit to 2 ladies by the names of Beauty and Rebecca from the spa, who were extremely friendly and helpful. Other than that I rate this place 0 and I am highly disappointed. Management doesn't value their customers and it's sad.

The property has great potential, with well-kept grounds and plenty of wildlife that adds to its charm. The grounds and bar staff were friendly and helpful, which made a positive difference to our stay. That said, the facilities are showing their age and could use some attention. The roof over the walkways leaks, the garden chess set has damaged pieces, and the snooker table is in poor condition — only two of the five cues had tips, and both were damaged. The dartboard was also unusable. The entertainment area could benefit from general upkeep and some background music to liven it up. The rooms were clean and fairly spacious but, like the rest of the property, would benefit from some TLC. Several plugs were damaged, some doors showed signs of water damage, and while the bedding was clean, it didn’t fit the beds properly. There was no Wi-Fi available for guests, and the TV channels were extremely limited — something that could really improve the experience, especially for those travelling from far.
Darren C — Google review
It was okay... Their food was quite mediocre. As a dinner 'buffet' if you could call it that we were served wors, brisket and chicken from a braai all prepared the same way, pap as a starch with potatoe bake and chakalaka. That was it. More variety is needed. 3 desserts for R250 per person is crazy. The water to shower from their shared geyser was already cold at 8am. Not pleasant. Also there was a shower curtain - quite unhygienic for a public hotel.

We had such a beautiful stay here. The views are amazing. The room looked good and spacious. You can comfortably spend days here. It felt like home. The staff was attentive and always available to our needs. Love the fact that the booking included breakfast. This always makes life a lot easier. Beautiful place. My favourite was the outside area. We spent most our time there. The service top tier 👌🏽 I totally recommend this place.

Annie's Boutique Guesthouse is an exceptional venue with the most beautiful views of the Hartbeespoort dam and the mountains. The room was so clean and beautiful with a super relaxing Spa Jacuzzi which felt like a free massage. All amenities as promised were available in the room including a supercool Air-conditioner, full bouquet DSTV, tea & coffee station and quality bedding. The staff were ultra friendly especially the ever smiling Stanley and the helpful Thembi. The free Breakfast was scrumptious, including cold as well as hot options and customised to our likes as we are vegetarians. All in all, one of the best stays I've ever had and that says a lot as I have travelled extensively.

Ended up with the African room because the slipper rooms round bed was quite small. The African room was liveable. Although the aircon was really noisy. Rooms are right next to each other and guests and the pool are right outside so you cant exactly open up the curtains in the morning if you want to just lay in bed as everyone can see inside. Even tho the view outside is amazing. The breakfast was a good portioned English breakfast. Very clean. Staff is extremely friendly and so polite. We booked the massage for 2 and facial. Facial was not worth it and massage was average.

Nestled in the peaceful embrace of nature near the Magalies River, Iris Retreat & Island Day Spa offers a perfect getaway for those seeking tranquility. Just a short drive from Hartbeespoort Dam, this serene estate features charming cottages equipped with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and kitchenettes—ideal for unwinding after a day of relaxation. Guests rave about the unique spa experience that combines soothing treatments with the natural sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves.
I love having my expectations exceeded. I have visited many spa's but nothing as unique as this. 2 hours of treatments with tweating birds and the sounds of nature. (not recorded but the real thing) ! Our room and outside area was amazing. I hardly write reviews, but I had to write one for this venue because I need others to experience what we did. I will try attach photos. Definitely book the spa treatments and at least 2 nights accommodation. The pool area is relaxing, the service is fantastic and the hammocks and comfy chairs were difficult to move from. I am such a snob when it comes to linen and thankfully, the linen at Iris Retreat was right up there. Thank you to the staff and management. We have visited in summer and will be back to experience the indoor fireplace and bonfire in winter.

Service at the spa was great, it's a pity we couldn't have our treatments on the island because of the weather. Will definitely come back when it's warm so we can have our massages outside. The atmosphere is amazing and tranquil with sounds of the river flowing nearby.

What a beautiful experience I had for my birthday. This place is really a gem. I loved the massage by the river that was exceptional along with the friendly service. My downside was the changing facilities. They need some attention. The bathroom blinds has layers of dust, the hand was soap was water mixed with maybe sunlight? I think a nice diffuser, a deep clean as well as perhaps a plant would elevate that room to match the experience and ambience. I didn’t like that we were server wine on basically an empty stomach so perhaps adding some snacks just to balance. I enjoyed this place really. I believe with 1 or 2 tweaks it’s going to be real 4 star. I also noted that the seating by the pool doesn’t get dusted of twigs and leaves daily, but that’s just a minor. We were assisted by Belinda and Refilwe. Really friendly ladies.

Very relaxing spa retreat. I was very impressed. The accommodation was beautiful, a lovely fire pit, the rooms were so pretty and the environment was quiet and your whole room setup was also very private. The spa treatments were a dream, as the massage parlour overlooked the river flowing, so while they're massaging you, you hear the water which was amazing. Very relaxing

What an amazing experience!! Best massage myself and my family have received by far, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. The water is so relaxing as well. I would not only come back for the experience but also for the staff. They were all super friendly and made my sisters 16th extra special. Thank you to Christine, Belinda, Momo, Refilwe, Maureen and the gentleman that showed us where to go!! We will definitely be back.

We loved the experience and restfull atmosphere of this retreat. A combination of forest and luxury, lots of privacy, and the opportunity to just sit back and relax. The ladies at the spa are excellent at their job, combined with laying next to the stream, listening to the rapids, there is no way not to fall asleep.😄 I really appreciated that the products they used weren't overly frangranced as I have very sensitive skin, and this would be the first time I am leaving a spa without a rash. Overall a romantic peacefull place for a getaway.

False advertising – very disappointing The pool was empty and out of order, which was not mentioned in the listing. Al Shadai Guesthouse: Where Potential Meets Poor Planning I'm all about giving second chances, but this guesthouse just doesn't deserve one. We booked in advance, traveled from afar, and were greeted with a lovely "surprise": no water for three whole days. And don't even get me started on the "communication". A heads up would've been nice, but nope, we got a shrug and a "you know how South Africa is" from the owner. Classy. We paid top dollar to sit in a waterless wasteland all weekend, while the owner conveniently avoided us like the plague. But, props to the staff - they were friendly, helpful, and clearly the MVPs. Breakfast was on point, and the view was stunning. Too bad it wasn't enough to make up for the owner's epic fail. Until this guy learns to communicate like a decent human being, we're ghosting this place. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I'm extremely disappointed with the service we received from Pieter, the manager of El Shadai Guest House. Upon arrival on Friday, Pieter appeared intoxicated and informed us that there was no water available, despite knowing about the issue since Wednesday. This lack of advance notice caused significant inconvenience, as we were unable to shower for the entire weekend. Furthermore, when we attempted to discuss the water problem with the owner, we were avoided throughout the weekend. Suggestions for Improvement We would appreciate it if the management could provide timely updates on maintenance issues and communicate effectively with guests. It's essential to prioritize client satisfaction and address concerns promptly. Hope for Future Improvement We hope this feedback will be taken seriously and used to improve the service at El Shadai Guest House.

Still waiting be compensated for what we’ve experience over the past weekend. Not putting my hopes up on it because after explaining our feelings about this situation to the guesthouse, we can clearly see there’s no point in keeping our bad review to ourselves. So I let me explain exactly what happened. Friday the 24th we arrived there at the guesthouse after a long day at work around 19:00. As we get there we get showed in by one of the african guys that treated us lovely. He showed us around and then just mentioned that the water is off but it is being fixed and will get water soon. (Not really explaining to us how serious the water situation actually is) Then the manager/owner came to us. Let me not go into detail about my first expression about him but anyways, he comes and tells us the same thing as the previous guy told us about the water. Once again, not really telling us how serious the water situation is until I questioned out about it. First thing I asked was- will we be able to shower tonight? 😟 The answer was -No I simply just explained to him that this not fine and note that my tone of voice was good towards him. After explaining to him the moment we met him that this is so wrong, he instead of trying to help us, kept on pushing against what we feel and confronted us even more. I mean, I wasn’t there to fight him. Only to explain that he could have informed us. How is this acceptable? We weren't even notified about this only until we got there. They knew the water has been off since Wednesday but still didn't even do the effort in telling us the situation in advance. I mean, it's not your fault the water is not available but if we knew this/ we could have made plans/ or perhaps arrange a different place to enjoy our weekend. I mean- who wants to pay about R7k for a whole weekend getaway and you should bath out of buckets with pool water? Who pays so much to end up filling your toilet 15 times a day just to be able to do our business. Throughout the whole weekend we tried our best to see owner/manager again and find out about what is happening? Instead he ran away and avoid us the whole weekend. My one friend who joined our week away has bad eczema and that means her skin needs to be treated with clean water and not pool water filled with chemicals. Once again. The water isn't your fault but we could have been told about the water situation so that we could have made a different plan instead of sitting a whole weekend without water. We payed to have a good, relaxing weekend away and we ended up working more to help us stay clean. What I clearly could see from him is the fact that he just didn't want to lose out on us cancelling our booking. Instead, making us live this uncomfortable. We tried sorting it out but we couldn't all because he couldn't face us and kept on dissapearing so he can't speak to us. It was said he will give us a 50% refund, but do you think that happened? Instead- he blocked us on WhatsApp🙄 So yeah, I’ve got the right to give this bad review!

Nestled in the charming village of Kosmos, the Kosmos Manor Guest House offers a luxurious escape by the stunning Hartbeespoort Dam. Just a short drive from local attractions like the Aerial Cableway and Lesedi Cultural Village, this upscale bed and breakfast features six beautifully appointed rooms that blend Victorian elegance with modern amenities. Guests can indulge in complimentary breakfast while enjoying breathtaking dam views or unwind in the lush gardens, complete with a heated pool and hot tub.
I have now been to Kosmos Manor twice and each time had a great experience. The facilities are clean and well kept, the staff are extremely helpful, friendly and give you your space. The views are my favourite part, the view of the dam from the deck is so relaxing and just what you need for a weekend getaway. Highly recommended!

Don’t bother wasting your hard earned money to book at Kosmos Manor. What a scam!!! My husband and I got lost on arrival and tried to call the manager who’s phone went straight to voice mail. After asking around we finally found our way. The place was absolutely horrible, filthy from the main entrance to reception and the rooms. From the moment we walked in, we were engulfed by the worst stench. The base bed in our room was visibly broken and tilted towards the headboard. Dust filled the room and the carpets looked like they hadn’t been washed in at least a year. We were told not to drink water from the tap but to make use of water from some half filled 5l bottle that looked like it had been recycled from a garbage dump. A zero out 10 is too generous. Shocked and flabbergasted at our reality we almost immediately took to Google to double check the ad that led to our booking as well as reviews from previous visitors. Kosmos Manor rates itself as a 5 star establishment and boasts a long list of good reviews on many booking sites (many reviews rating it a 9 and above). This we found beyond concerning and most certainly questionable. Needless to say we decided not to stay the night. My recommendation is that the place must consider closing it’s doors permanently as I don’t think the owners understand the standards or definition of “hospitality”. What a HORROR!

Felt like home. The Sapphire presidential suite, with a private study, another bedroom, and a generous balcony overlooking the dam is fit for a Queen! Thank you Mbo, Violet, and Ilse for your smiles and care.

Beautiful rooms and such stunning details in and around the house. Friendly staff. Was a bit disappointed that the bar only stock the likes of beer, brandy and whiskey; no liqueur or sherry. Small details around the premises that need a bit of attention. The food was great but not 5-star extraordinary. However, the atmosphere, ambience and beautiful views make up for it. Overall a magnificent experience and would definitely visit again.

I find extremely concerning that there are people who gave this place a bad review. I think Google needs to really fact check before allowing some people to post comments. I went there with my fiancé last year, the staff was amazing, we didn't expect them to be doctors...thats probably why. The breakfast was great, and the place is truly why you go there, just heaven, amazing room, very spacious and well decorated. It's not home, it's better than that. If you're smart, you don't even need room service because everything is in the room. The owner was lovely and often called to check on us. So please do yourself a favour and don't believe every negative review you read. I give it 1000/10

Self-catering unit was spacious and lovely.. beautiful garden and great plunge pool. Shower temperature control gave some issues and the toilet seat was unusually high. Some of the crockery was dirty when we got there.. Staff was great. All in all, a good place. Would definitely visit again.

We have stayed here twice so far and we absolutely love it here! The view of the dam and mountains are amazing and relaxing and it is seen from the bed while relaxing. The room on the extreme left: the tree in front needs to be cut as it's blocking some of the view but the other rooms have a perfect view. The room is massive with relaxing sofas and a lovely table and chair set that we used to eat breakfast. The bathroom is massive and modern. The location is within walking distance to Kosmos Cafe- for lunch or dinner. The breakfast variety is huge- but, it is not a hot breakfast. That should be considered. Overall, it's one of my favorite local places.

We were there for our wedding anniversary in March 2021 and enjoyed our stay. It is an exclusive lodge with very few rooms, making it quiter and perfect for couples' getaway. They say breakfast is not included but the continental breakfast provided as a courtesy was good enough for us. The rooms are luxurious and there is a beautiful view of the lake from the balcony.

We are extremely disappointed with this property. We didn’t even stay there and drove home. Our Valentine's experience was completely ruined, and considering the price we paid, we feel it was far from acceptable. The photos on your website do not accurately reflect the current condition of the property. Firstly, nowhere did it mention that Kosmos is located near squatter camps( right next to it). Additionally, the parking area is not secure — there are no gates or security personnel. Upon entering, we were greeted by an unpleasant smell in the reception area. The room itself had a tiny bed, and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. Outside, the dam was overgrown with weeds, including hyacinths, and there were no boats leaving as shown in the photos on both your website and booking.com. When we entered the bathroom, it had a strong odor, as though someone had just used the toilet. To make matters worse, the neighboring house appeared abandoned, possibly occupied by squatters. We believe this is a clear case of false advertising. The property is in desperate need of maintenance. We requested that we receive a refund for this matter as we left the property just after seeing it. But we only got 50% after speaking with booking. Com numerous times.
Chanell B — Google review
First and foremost, accommodation in hearties has to have enough integrity to update their "lake/dam/water" pictures to include the view of the widespread water hyacinth. There's almost no "water" views left, at least where we were situated. One cannot tell guests they'll enjoy views of the water when water is not seen. Secondly, I don't understand the great reviews for this place - which we used to base our choice of stay. Big mistake. There were massive spiders everywhere. Understandably, to a point ,seeing the area has so much vegetation; however, I live in a similar area and I myself have an expansive garden but through regular fogging/pest control "inside the house" there are no bugs in my house. Ever. My grandchildren were totally freaked out. The bedroom I stayed in had a massive toilet water leakage. The airconditioner made so much noise my granddaughter was afraid of sleeping under it and later on I couldn't turn it off! The breakfast in this establishment is rated as "superb"... and I believed it. Another mistake. The quality of the food was absolutely the worse. From the colourant drenched yoghurt to the helpers bugging us about the absolute certainty of the quantity of toast we required - no doubt because they count the slices of toast used by guests - the quality felt cheap and mean. Even the serviettes were scarce! We were given cards to choose breakfast items. I don't see why, since no one paid attention to the choices we marked. I didn't get the baked beans I ordered, my tomato was raw and not grilled like the other members of my group and I was offered cheese which I stated I don't eat raw, so they melted it into a puddle in the middle of a plate and brought it to me. I still don't understand what the cheese was for, they could have toasted it on the bread or mixed it into the scrambled eggs. Not everyone eats raw cheese. The scrambled eggs were rubbery and all it had was salt. The "beef sausages" are the "viena" type that are kept frozen in the bottom of a supermarket freezer. The servers kept interfering with the breakfast with questions which we had already answered in the cards...not to mention that they kept hovering over the table as if rushing us to eat and leave...way before checking out time. Nice people but in dire need of training how to cook, serve and treat guests! The owner must realise that the quality of food served is important. Lastly, as there are stairs everywhere due to the way the house is built, our rooms were in dark corners. In the evening, I switched on the lights outside the bedrooms so we could move between rooms - as I requested adjacent rooms - so we could see the stairs properly - and someone kept switching them off!!! My granddaughter fell because it was too dark. I switched them back on as we went out to dinner, and when we got back we had to use the lights on our cellphones because all the lights had once again been switched off, including the entrance light! Lastly, plug points in this place are downright dangerous!!! Extensions everywhere and one was overheating. Will we return or recommend? Absolutely not. People transform these houses into guest houses to make money but care nothing about their guests.
G S — Google review
Very disappointing dubious plug points , every time I moved the bedside lamp they went off. There was not enough hot water to take a decent shower with The shore line was littered with garbage so was quite unpleasant. The service was friendly but very inadequate The breakfast, for the price, was disappointing and the choice of dishes poor. WiFi was almost non existent couldn't even send massages most of the time and watching a movie became so frustrating that I gave it up. All in all I would not recommend

A nice location situated inside an estate with security and boom gate access. The house had a pool, braai area, pool table, darts and some board games for guests. There was also a private access to the sock overlooking the dam The room had a balcony with views of the dam. The particular room which we had did not have a shower, just a tub, and unfortunately I did not have hot water after 10pm so I had to boil water in a kettle and fill the tub (which took about 30 minutes). Breakfast was nice - no complaints. For exiting and reentering the estate , you will need to request for an exit and entry pin. I must commend the host for allowing us to check-in 2 hours prior as our flight was early. The lady Juliet was also very friendly and hospitable. Overall we did enjoy it and would rate it 5 star bar the issue with no hot water and having a tub instead of a dual tub/shower.

It was my first visit as a surprise from my husband to celebrate my birthday on the 6th October and wow I was impressed from the art pieces around the guest house to the warm welcome of one of the staff members called Juliet💕. The place is very peaceful with a view of the lake and boats. Had a chance to bit my man at snooker next to the pool🤣. The rooms are clean, spacious and beautiful. The breakfast is out of this world, served by Theresa with the help of the Manager, these ladies are all amazing and forever smiling👌. Thank you so much for making our stay memorable and not forgetting the birthday surprise you managed to set up for me, eternally grateful. I would visit again without any doubt in my mind⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!

A perfectly little getaway to get out of the city for the day. French Toast Cafe transcends you to a make shift Paris in Hartbeespoort. Sitting outside under umbrellas looking at the mini Eiffel Tower while pleasantly enjoying a meal and lovely mocktails. The food was large portions and quite filling. We had the couscous salad with roasted butternut, basil tomato mozzarella sandwich, fries, french toast with maple syrup and washed down with a cappuccino, mango daiquiri and cranberry cooler. The food was tasty and quite filling. It’s quite a lovely way to spend the day and be immersed in the surroundings

Vovo Telo Bakery & Café is a delightful gem that truly captures the essence of soul food through its dedication to crafting delicious meals in an authentic manner. This charming spot offers more than just exceptional coffee and artisanal baked goods; it also serves up freshly prepared, wholesome dishes that are sure to satisfy any palate. The ambiance is inviting, making it a perfect stop for anyone exploring Harties.
What Vovo Telo has been able to accomplish as a franchise is very rare. It feels every bit as artisanal, rustic and organic as a mom and pop eatery you’d stumble upon in a tiny town. Beautiful origin story as well, with the owners having an epiphany during a holiday in Madagascar (it’s named after the hotel they stayed in at the time) The service is excellent, to begin with and the waiters are generally helpful and charming. I ordered a watermelon G&T fizz cocktail to start, and it was delightful. I tend to have a hard time with large cocktails because the sugar content is always ridiculous, but this was more conservative on the syrups and/or sugars while being flavourful and refreshing. For my breakfast, I had the poached eggs and chicken livers with a side of bacon. It was a perfect meal. The croissants were flaky, buttery but dense, the chicken livers were smothered in a mild, tomato based sauce which didn’t need heavy seasoning to lend it any flavor. The eggs and bacon tasted farm fresh! All this for a very, very reasonable price. The whole experience was nourishing for the body and the soul. Bravo!

You can wax lyrically about the personal touch you get from the owner here, or the attentive staff, or the freshly prepared food, or the clean bathrooms or the fact that it is always packed out with people! Any which way you look at it, it will always be good here. If you ever have a bad experience then please go back and try again, because for sure you will have a good one and start a trend for yourself!

Visited this outlet and had a wonderful experience. We ordered French Toast mixed berry compote, Honey Mustard chicken Sarmie and the Chicken mayo and Avocado Sarmie. All the food served were excellent, as described as the menu, taste, portion size and overall appeal were excellent. service was very good, waitress was friendly, she recommended items , was properly knowledgeable. Hot drinks were also of a high standard. We also bagged a Pecan Nut pie to take away and that was excellent too. Big restaurant, lots of different style of seating great vibe and ambiance, excellent toilets that were clean and of a high quality, probably one of the best experiences in terms of food in Harties. Highly recommended.

Review of Vovo Telo Harties. Situated on Scott Street. We enjoyed a flat white cappuccino, a very berry waffle, and a smoked trout avo sandwich. Taffy, our waitress, was friendly. Parking available. Exceptional Service and Ambiance at Vovo Telo I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the truly amazing space at Vovo Telo, and my overall impression was overwhelmingly positive. Notably, the outstanding service provided by the waiter, Sharon, added a special touch to the visit, exemplifying kindness and exceptional hospitality. Several aspects of the experience stood out as positive highlights. The food, while tasting like a typical breakfast, was executed well – the fresh avo and eggs cooked to perfection were particular highlights. The coffee, with a special nod to the Vietnamese Coffee, was a delightful treat, offering a unique and delicious flavor profile. The ambiance of Vovo Telo contributed significantly to the overall positive experience. The atmosphere was truly happy and comfortable, creating a welcoming space for patrons. However, it's worth noting that the tap water tasted peculiar, contrasting with the otherwise excellent culinary offerings. In conclusion, my visit to Vovo Telo was marked by exceptional service, delectable food, and a delightful ambiance. I recommend this venue for those seeking a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.

I’m so disappointed. This spur branch is not it. The service is incredibly slow and they were not even busy for Christmas Eve like other spurs. I waited 10 min just to get a drink - a cider!!! Yoh don’t even get me started with the environment - not inclusive it seems. Tables with certain races got quicker and friendlier service and I’m shooketh… no supervisory staff at the kiddies area, I was just told she’ll be safe?? Safe how when there’s no staff at the play area??? Terrible let down!!! Also, the bbq sauce is way toooo sweet, tone it down please. A compliment: The buffalo wings and the mac and cheese were amazing!!!

I haven’t eaten yet but was already a bit disappointed about the kids play area. Kids that are 1-5 years old seem like they not occupied because everything is just too big even one child said they are scared to get on. Wouldn’t honestly recommend this Spur when going to eat out with kids.

What a rip off!(R80.00) Not much but considering the amout of filling, ridiculously over priced.Wrong order firstly... Just about no filling in the sweet pancakes and cold. Should've read the reviews beforehand. Just don't come here. See picture attached.

Horrible experience Food wasn't fresh and We waited for what seemed like ages for it. The venue in a state of despair. The Tables are broken and the staircase seem like it can collapse at any moment. The staff tried to smooth our experience over, but it seems like they are also being treated unfairly, as they need to use their wages to pay for cancelled orders. Pick a Pancake is a landmark in Harties. The owners needs to wake up, as I am afraid that if our experience is a common occurrence (judging by the reviews), then they can just as well close their doors today.

Do not think you'll get good food here. We ordered their bar-one pancake to be served with a pancake with cheap instant chocolate pudding. Overpriced. Serving staff was unfriendly and slow.

1995 Called and they want their furniture, food and service back. (nothing has changed in decades, feels like a bar at a cheap backpackers) Kitchen way understaffed. One cook for the whole restaurant. Expect 1 hour food waiting time, even though there was only 6 tables. You need to move/try out benches of tables. They wobble left and right with 2 people on them. We ended up sitting exactly on the legs hoping it wouldn't break. Just very neglected and sad. Rather drive to one of the other newer establishments, much better food and service experience and other owners take pride in their establishments. Just don't go to this place... Uuuugggghhh!

Stairs basically falling apart at the entrance to the upstairs area and the Food was very terrible. Waited an hour for food (pancakes and waffles) - there was only 2 other small tables occupied, it came cold and actually extremely awful - very expensive for the cheap quality of food and drinks we were given. “Nutella” Pancake - was ice cream stuff pancake with a drizzle of watered down cheap chocolate sauce, same sauce was used on the bar one waffle.

I want to give them a zero. We waited there for a very long time and did not even recieve a menu. We just left with waiters not even caring. Will never go back

I brought my 5 year old to come and enjoy a pancake, we order a savoury and an ice cream Nutella topping. No Nutella on this pancake from a day old. Brian the manager first admits they have no Nutella and can’t find the sauce currently. Not conveying this to us when we ordered, then he contradicts himself and starts lying to me telling me that it is nutella mixed with cream. Pathetic pathetic, disgusting cheap chocolate sauce. Still charging me for a fake dish, I refuse to pay for a cheap mediocre dish. Shame on you Brian, you should be fired for your deceptive nature and the way you are handling clients.
