I also, tried Rocha da Penha & Pasteis de noz and they were nice but not as delicious as the local once. The grill who is working is very helpful.

My love affair with almonds might be to blame. ;-) I can only hope I can find these back in the US. I might have to learn to make them myself.

My last breakfast before leaving Guimarães! Came recommended by a friend and didn't regret it. Large coffee (abatanado), pastel de nata, lanche com salsicha (sausage snack) and Bola de Berlim (Berlin ball) for 3,50. Very old and traditional confeitaria in the centre of Guimarães. I knew this shop was famous for the torta de Guimarães and for the Toucinho do Ceu. They were both very good and the woman at the desk was very nice and welcoming. We went to the confeitaria on Sunday afternoon, so maybe they were finishing their sweets of the week but I had the impression that they had been baked some time before, although the tortas was very crunchy and very good.
