What a great spot in Røros! Staff super friendly and accommodating. Food at the restaurant was great. Room was clean and spacious. Good soap in the bathroom. Breakfast was superb - plenty of options for everyone. Staff helpful with recs in town. Passes my test of “twiceness” - as in, yes, I’d definitely stay here again. No question.

The most cozy room of my trip. Walking distance from the train station, slightly uphill. Great breakfast, but the coffee from the thermos was not for continental taste. Loved the local carpets on the bed. The room wasn't 100 % dark at night. Plenty of food and cafe options nearby. Also a good place to start hikes or runs.
Andreas — Google review
The room was hotter than a sauna, and they gave us winter quilts?? (It's august)... The sound isolation was so horrific you could think that the sound of people talking outside was amplified... The tv wasn't working either... Might be some good things about this place but we sure couldn't find it...
Jacob A — Google review
The apartment is very beautiful and spacious, with old factory details. Everything is present and clean. We also dined at the restaurant, which was delicious and the service was super friendly. Thank you Sara for your kind explanation of the dishes and your radiant smile 😀.

The hotel was my least favorite in my trip to Norway. The place was clean but felt misty and very crowded. Since the blinds in the room were very light we could not sleep. They do have a parking for the hotel in the back. The breakfast was okay but nothing special and the staff very nice and accommodating.
Iris B — Google review
We stayed a night here on our way back to Oslo from Trondheim. Really nice hotel, rooms are pretty nice. We ate at the restaurant and had the halibut and the reindeer. It was really excellent and the staff were really kind. We also tried a local cider which was very tasty. Quite good value for Norway too!
Nick B — Google review
Røros’ main street is Kjerkgata - Scots will instantly recognise it as the Norwegian version of Kirkstreet, Church Street. About every 2nd house is either a restaurant/cafe/cafeteria/bar/pub, and the next one then is a souvenir shop, more often than not quite tacky. I will concentrate on eating here, not staying, and won't linger on Norwegian restaurant prices. The Norwegian krona is -currently!- on its absolute low point compared to $, € or even £ so foreign tourists won't break their bank any more when they eat out. This one is not cheap but one of the better ones - apart from the service which seemed overwhelmed by the number of guests during lunch hours. At you still pay @20+ for a lunch dish!
Kurt M — Google review
*Lovely place to dine and sleep* The old pub and Inn is a great place to stay in Røros. I have used the place quite often when in Røros. They have some rooms in the main building, but they have refurbished the old wool factory which is situated in the backyard. Lovely rooms where several are equipped with a small kitchen too. Nice staff and very good food.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming former mining town of Roros, Peder Hiort Mathus is a culinary gem that celebrates the rich flavors of Scandinavian and Norwegian cuisine. This delightful restaurant takes pride in using local ingredients from Roros and Trondelag, expertly crafted with a blend of Danish craftsmanship and French techniques. Diners can indulge in an array of delectable dishes, including traditional smorrebrod, luscious brownies, creamy mousse, fruitcake, and zesty lemon pie.
We ended up in here as it was one of the only places open on New Year’s Day. We were fortunate that the staff could understand our English as unfortunately we don’t know Norwegian. The food was amazing, this was my first time trying reindeer meat, and it did not disappoint. We had a very short waiting time for the food and the staff were lovely.

A lot of different feedbacks. We had good service and the Mathuset Special pizza was quite ok. An ok place to eat at Røros with same price level as else in this museum town.
Per U — Google review
Really nice place with a decent menu and good food, but poor service. Indoor and outdoor seating; indoor has charm and a kids play area.
Shawn S — Google review
Food for 2/10 took 45 minutes to arrive, everyone else done with the meal by them. No offer of compensation or explanation. Prices are very high and food is below average.
Lars B — Google review
They didn't want we seated inside because they told us the place was full but it was empty. Outside there were people smoking and we are a family with babies, then they allowed we lunch inside but the food wasn't taste. I felt as I lunched at home cooked by my best friend, no a cooker. The restaurant is beautiful. The food is expensive not what I expected

Everything was excellent! Jan Idar took great care of us .. food was great! We had the reindeer and the trout .. the wine he recommended paired perfectly with the food. Overall fantastic experience for our 45th anniversary :)
Bob S — Google review
Really poor service, a really slow and sloppy waiter. Small dish of food, a grown man needs at least two plates to have a oke meal. For a nice night and dinner be smart and stay away.
Hidde D — Google review
The food was good, but expensive. We paid for 0,5L soft drinks, but we received approximately 0,35L, the menu needs to be updated. The staff was polite, but slow with service. They might have forgotten about us, we received no additional service after the main course was served.

Gastropub
Bar
Located in the heart of Kjerkgata, Skanckebua is a gastropub that exudes a unique ambiance and character. During the day, they offer a diverse lunch menu, while at night, guests can enjoy an exciting à la carte selection. Emphasizing traditional ingredients from the Roros region and incorporating recipes from the head chef's Portuguese grandmother, this establishment showcases a fusion of flavors.
Very nice place in the middle of the city! We ordered calamari and two burgers. Everything was tasty and freshly made. Staff was helpful and friendly. Would come back if we'd be staying in Røros longer.
Justyna — Google review
I have eaten here previously but not on this trip. The food I have eaten has always seemed trendy, but sorely lacking in quality. I ordered a small beer, at an excessively touristic price. There was considerable garbage on the floor around the bar during my stay. The bartender's focus seemed to be on his hair, which he ran his fingers through incessantly,. He went into the kitchen area with dirty glasses and plates to be washed, thereafter to attend a mobile phone conversation, during which he passed his hand through his belt and coddled his private parts. He resumed his bar-room duties without washing his hands.

What a lovely experience!! Excellent service! Surprised vegan choices and sooo tasty!! Cauliflower starter just delicious 😋 Thank you for a memorable dinner!!!
Ina M — Google review
A poor and expensive excuse for fish 'n' chips. Deep-frying plaice (rödspätta) only results in tasteless fish mush inside the thick and coarse factory-prepared crust. Only haddock or cod are really suitable at this price level. The chips were also mushy inside and lacked for taste and salt. Also no vinegar available. Beer was good but really expensive too. The waitress was nice though 👍
August G — Google review
The place is right in the middle of the main road of Røros. It's obvious that it is popular both among the locals and the visitors. The reason is that it is the kind of place where you can go from something as small as only beer to something more "fancy" to explore the flavors of the region. I went with the later in mind. The food is good and tasty. The lamb was tender and with a thick and sauce full of flavor. The meat as also good but maybe not spectacular. The place is great to have nice talks in a relaxed manner. Prices are what one would expect from Norway. The service was slow, but since it was Sunday 10 pm, I think one cannot be too strict.
Pablo M — Google review
Visited this restaurant on a cold day in April with friends. The three of us had fish & chips and a mix of the smaller dishes. The atmosphere was nice and warm. The food was nicely presented and tasty. Been here once before. Can not recall what I ate back then, but for now I think fish & chips is a good choice.

Nestled in the charming town of Roros, Restaurant 1897 invites you to embark on a culinary journey that beautifully blends traditional Norwegian flavors with contemporary flair. The cozy ambiance sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience, where dishes like succulent reindeer entrecote and expertly prepared cod take center stage. Guests rave about the delightful selection of cheeses and fine wines served at just the right temperature, all at reasonable prices.
Great burger with local beef, a good marinara pizza, and the crème brûlée came with a delicious berry ice cream, fresh berries and crushed meringue. The service is friendly and efficient, the decor is really interesting - lots of old antique implements, machines, wooden posts and black and white pictures of older Røros. Nice quiet hubbub after 6:30. Most people in Norway have an early dinner.

I had the pleasure of having both a delicious dinner and an excellent breakfast at this restaurant. The dinner was absolutely exceptional – the reindeer was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, and beautifully presented. The breakfast didn’t disappoint either – fresh ingredients, a great selection, and fantastic taste. The entire experience was enhanced by the amazing service, especially from our waiter Bartosz, who was not only helpful and professional but also incredibly kind and friendly. Thanks to him, the atmosphere was even more enjoyable. Highly recommended – a top-notch place with great food and service!

Nestled in a charming corner, Lysstråle As is a delightful little café that feels like a warm embrace from grandma. Run by an incredibly attentive lady, this spot is perfect for those hot summer days when you crave something sweet—like their delicious ice cream served with that extra touch of care. Friendly staff, but not a cozy cafe at all and the pastry I ordered was heated up in the microwave, making it soggy.

(Translated by Google) The sun peeked out and the temperature became so good that it was tempting to have an outdoor lunch when Lysstråle appeared. The place didn't seem to be open, but luckily we checked the door. Inside there was a good selection of cakes and on the menu there were many temptations for lunch food of the desired type; ciabatta, rolls etc. and at very nice prices. We each went for our ciabatta with egg and smoked salmon. When we were about to order lunch dessert, the owner told us that she had apple cake in the oven and that it would be ready in a few minutes - delicious. All the food was homemade and there was plenty of toppings on the ciabatta. The warm apple cake was very good and with soft ice cream the icing on the cake. Lysstråle was a place where you felt very welcome. Free refill of coffee and a pleasant passiar with the owner.

(Translated by Google) Plastic Fantastic? A little praise for Rørosmeieriet regarding the use of plastic. On 9/2 this year I contacted Rørosmeieriet via email: First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your recovery. And not least that you stand by your principles. I have been using your products for a long time now. Much because I am concerned about organic food, but I am also concerned that "small" players should also be able to reach people's tables. The market you are in is far too dominated by other large players. That said, I would like to challenge you a little about the use of plastic on your milk cartons. Because are these plastic caps that came out a long time ago really necessary? I am old enough to remember cartons without them. And you know what? It went really well. There will be a few thousand (modest numbers) this year too. And since we are in a time where there is a great focus on cutting the use of plastic: (here it was just a link to a page about "the big bag cut") And this is what I got back in response: Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX, Thank you for your email and for getting involved! We appreciate that. We have no plans at the moment to drop cork completely for various reasons. The old milk cartons with bend and fold-opening were thicker than today's cardboard with cork. The cartons we use now have one layer less than other cartons that are white and then we also consume fewer trees. Many customers want cork because they find it practical to be able to put the milk carton in the refrigerator or take an open milk carton out on a trip. It is more appropriate to use cork on the types of milk that need to be shaken, such as Syrna Blå and our flavored milks. But maybe this will come sometime in the future. We will take your input further. Greetings Marte. It is probably not the best answer I have received. I sent a reply twice. But it has not been answered. We are drowning in plastic, and God forbid if we have to make a little effort. Like, for example, leaving the carton standing, not lying down. And possibly spilling a little when you shake it. It is a strange attitude. Then they were not as concerned about the environment as they claim anyway. Because when it comes down to it, it is convenience considerations that rule, and a "green jacket" they put on when it suits them. But maybe, maybe sometime in the future. No, honestly, this logic here will get you "going further out into the countryside" given.... (Original) Plastic Fantastic? Sendte et tilsvar to ganger.

(Translated by Google) We can only recommend this place. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, when most of the tables were occupied, and we still didn't have to wait long (about 10 minutes) for a hot meal. It was delicious, and the selection of drinks and desserts/pastries was also impressive.

(Translated by Google) Extremely overpriced for what you get plus a LONG wait. I ordered a salad and waited 45 minutes. When I asked about the status of what I had ordered I got a very sour answer from the kitchen that they hadn't started it and that there were other orders ahead of me. I regret not just canceling it then and there because when the salad finally arrived it was just in the middle of the tree. Not worth waiting for in other words. Go somewhere else! (Original) Ekstremt overprisa for kva ein får pluss LANG ventetid.

(Translated by Google) Three empty tables. Two tables had guests. The rest of the tables were not cleared. No kidding! All the remaining tables had dirty cups, glasses and plates. Both outside and inside. Smiling and cheerful employees, who instead of standing in the kitchen or behind the cash register chatting, should be clearing tables and refilling ice cubes. The bacon and chicken salad was so spicy that I almost returned it to the kitchen. I have eaten this at other jorbærpike places. Never like this. The creamy pasta was just okay. The gluten-free burger with bacon was good. (Original) Tre ledige bord. To bord hadde gjester.

(Translated by Google) Waited fifty minutes for "dinner". Very small and lukewarm nachos. Didn't they get it warmer in the microwave during all that time? About fifteen tiny sticky pieces of meat? and ten or twelve beans stuck with dry cheese for a handful of tasteless taco chips. The other person in the group ate a small burger with dry cold sweet potato chips. Bottled sparkling water was cold as hell. But whether it was all worth 562 kroner is more than doubtful. In short, I'm done with "The Strawberry Shortcakes" (Original) Ventet femti minutter på «middag».

(Translated by Google) Was there on a Sunday, which meant there were minimal customers. The food came after 15 minutes and was quite good (ordered Chicken & Bacon salad). The service was adequate, with some summer help who probably took their day off because it was Sunday.

(Translated by Google) It's too bad to order food for two adults and one child and, with little traffic, you won't be able to start eating for more than 45 minutes. (Translated by Google) Very long wait for food, despite very few guests. Ordered pasta with meatballs. Must be the worst thing I've ever been served anywhere. And the food was cold.
